Japanese restaurant
Restaurant
Haiku by Hatsune is a Japanese restaurant in Shanghai that has been gaining popularity among food enthusiasts. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience by blending traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. Chef Hatsune, with over twenty years of culinary expertise in Japan, is the mastermind behind this establishment. Known for its California-Japanese fusion, Haiku features cream cheese on its menu and is particularly popular among expats.
Great Japanese restaurant at excellent location. Rolls and seasoned sashimi are all great.
Ben L — Google review
The Foie Gras Rossini Steak used to be less expensive than what it is now but I guess times are changing. But it's good that Haiku is still here although it's name has changed to Hana.
Jeff M — Google review
New name: Hana by Hatsune. I went there for a late lunch on Friday. I ordered a bowl of miso soup, smaller sashimi plate and a bowl of rice (one needs to order them separately). I think my total was RMB 293 (about USD 43.50). When compared to prices I pay in Berkeley, CA, USA this is not cheap, but I wanted to try. The cuts of fish were very fresh with great presentation. What won me over were two small dishes made out of cross-cuts of a cucumber filled what I think was salmon roe (visible at left/right ends of the sashimi plate in my photo). Good choice for a special meal.
Marek J — Google review
By far my favorite Japanese restaurant in shanghai. Go for the rolls. If you are into sashimi this place is good but if you are into rolls there is no better place.

The pedestrian street that even has a train to travel through it is a succession of shopping centers, each one large and illuminated. The avenue that goes towards the boardwalk is impressive because of the number of people who get off on one sidewalk and go up on the other. There are guards on the road to prevent people from getting off. Sichuan Citizen is a popular dining destination in Shanghai, located near Nanjing West Road and Jiujiang Road. The area is known for its diverse culinary scene, offering everything from Shanghai's famous xiaolongbao to fiery Szechuan dishes. Sichuan Citizen stands out for its authentic Sichuan cuisine, featuring spicy and flavorful dishes like gongbao jiding (kungpao chicken) and mapo tofu.
Such a lovely Sichuan restaurant in a hidden place, food is delicious though is not spicy enough. Was told by friend their spicy is 'lao wai spicy' which is spicy for foreigners not local. But the food is still super delicious, love the vibes, the staffs are so friendly. Definitely recommend it and will come back soon.
Vivian T — Google review
Nice area - wukang road, Ferguson land. Classy but reasonable price. Cocktail was good. Food was very tame. Slightly disappointing. Maybe it’s for foreigners. Service was amazing. Attentive. Speaks both mandarin and English.
Jerone T — Google review
Nice family restaurant and the Basil Drop was of course excellent. Entrance on the right of the building, take elevator to 2nd floor. Fried corn was a hit with the kids.
Audun S — Google review
Great cocktails… their basil drop is very good, not so sure about the spicy one (with chili pepper); nice settings and atmosphere; the food could use some more spice
N G — Google review
Fine Sichuan Cuisine in a beautiful setting. GoogleMaps adress is the old location and misleading. They moved to Ferguson Lane, 2/F No 378, Wu Kang Lu, Shanghai 200031 (7 years ago). AppleMaps got it right.

We tried the Basil Drop Cocktail! It was fabulous! Strongly recommend this place for dinner!
Sam — Google review
Good food and drinks, here, you're probably going to need a reservation. We came without one and the maitre'd was able to squeeze us in if we ate quickly. We did, because the food was excellent. We got a beef dish, chicken cashew dish, spicy green beans, and dumplings. The beef was probably the best, but all of it was excellent. The chicken cashew was surprisingly spicy. We also enjoyed the drinks. One of us got the basil drop martini, which is thicker and foamier than you might expect, but once you get past that, if you like basil you will really like this. They tend to go heavy on the alcohol too, so just be ready for that.
Alex D — Google review
While I am not a fan of chilli my partner certainly is. We came 17km away from our hotel at the suggestion of a friend who was local. The atmosphere is similar to a 20's speakeasy with many modern touches. The staff are friendly and welcoming and remember you by name. The signature drinks are delicious, especially their Basil Drop. My favourite was Love It though. The food was absolutely delicious. While very spicy, it was lovely to enjoy Sichuan food which is known for its spice. I will definitely recommend this place to fellow travellers.

Spanish restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Shanghai, The Commune Social is a delightful modern tapas restaurant crafted by the talented chef Jason Atherton. This eatery redefines fine dining by making it both accessible and enjoyable, all while maintaining an inviting atmosphere. With its charming open-air patio that offers just the right amount of shade from surrounding buildings, guests can easily lose track of time as they savor their meals.
I’ve eating a few times in this amazing Spanish style restaurant. I’ve tried both brunch. And dinner. The brunch is best when the patio is open and you can eat outdoor. The patio decorations are amazing and the greens make it more enjoyable. The indoor is darker and perfect setting for dinner with friends or date night. Food is great. Prices are a bit higher but worth every penny. Staffs are very friendly and polite. Overall, it’s an amazing place to eat.
Armita Z — Google review
This restaurant gives a very trendy, relaxed upscale vibe. It has simple but nice set up. I went in the evening before it closed, so it wasn’t as crowded. The staff was friendly and spoke both English and Chinese. They recommended some dishes. The food was tasty and they had a different array of foods and mixes of things. The portion size isn’t too big, so if you are hungry and a eater prepare to order multiple platters. The price was alittle more expensive compared to other places. Was it worth it? I believe so if you want to try different more exquisite type of Spanish themed dishes. They had light music playing in background but wasn’t overbearing. Overall I give this place a 4/4.5 but it was a good time.
Mike M — Google review
This restaurant is just way too cool, amazing vibes. Food are just insanely great, went with my new friends in Shanghai with not much expectations. However when the food was serve I was so intrigued with it, every single dish looks like a piece of art and taste insanely yummy. Desserts are the best, very impressed. Both chefs used to work in Gordon Ramsay restaurant and dessert chef used to work in Savoy Hotel too. Make sure you visit this place when you are in Shanghai.
Vivian T — Google review
This is one of my favorite western food restaurants in Shanghai. The concept is small plates/tapas style with some of the mains are bigger portions. Pricing is a bit on the high side given the portion size but this is consistent with most tapas places are My rating is based on the following: Food: 5 stars Atmosphere: 4.5 stars Service: 4 stars Value: 4 stars All the food I was good with some dishes exceptional. Suckling pig is probably my favorite protein. What I look for is crispy skin and juicy, tender meat. The suckling pig here hits those criteria. The apple sauce was also a nice touch giving the dish a hint of sweetness. The other dish that I found exceptional was the beet salad. The dish was plated beautifully and the flavors were also on point. The sweetness of the beets was paired nicely with the umami flavor and richness of the cheese. The brunch here is also very good. Menu items are similar to dinner but served as a set lunch. If you haven’t been here it is well worth a visit.
Vincent Q — Google review
I went to this restaurant cause I was craving for Spanish dishes, I have been a lot of times in Spain so I know how it should be. Unfortunately I did not find anything I wanted on the menu, no tapas, no tacos, no Spanish ham, nothing to remind me Spain.. I just had..... Burger, mini burger, and my wife lambs chops.... After this I just went to Taco Bell's cause I was still hungry. Sorry to review like that but please, if you call yourself Spanish restaurant, make real food from Spain, it was good, in starter we took Spanish breakfast and that was great, but I was expecting more local Spanish dishes.

Dragon Phoenix is a top spot in Shanghai to savor high-quality Shanghai cuisine while taking in stunning views of the Huangpu River and the international buildings that line its banks. Located at 8F, 20 Nanjing East Road, HuangPu District, this restaurant offers Peking Duck and Crispy Skin Duck that are highly recommended. The roasted pork is also a must-try before it sells out.
Great food and amazing service here. Views were terrific - we had lunch here and spent about $140 USD for 3 of us - worth the splurge for such a nice place.

Wow,is the experience . Wow as in what a location. Wow as in the duck skin melts in your mouth. Wow as in where is the rest of it ,a small bowl of maybe 20 fried duck pieces arrived and that was it . Wow as in what a rip off 1000 rmb for 2. for dinner to eat duck skin ,I could have got that at kfc.
Travelling S — Google review
The star of the evening was undoubtedly the Pekin Duck. Crispy skin, and a perfect balance of seasoning elevated this dish to culinary perfection. It's safe to say it's the best Pekin Duck I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. However, while the food left an indelible mark, the service left much to be desired. Our waitress seemed less than thrilled to assist us, displaying impatience when we inquired about various menu options. Her subtle eye rolls and impatient attitude detracted from the overall dining experience. Make sure to reserve your Pekin duck a day in advance!

This restaurant is amazing. The staffs are all very attentive. They don't walk but run to you. When there is a wait, you are served with unending supply of snacks that includes fresh cucumber, cherry tomatoes, crackers. No problem if it is your first time or you don't know Chinese. They will ask someone who speaks English to guide and accompany you, recommend dishes and the various sauces. And they have lots of delicious sauces. Don't forget to order their specialty noodle where someone will perform the noodle pulling dance for you. They will attend to your drinks, hot towels. Really first rate. I will definitely come back or recommend others. One final note: I love that cute apron that they let you wear while dining.

Wandao is a Japanese restaurant offering all-you-can-eat options at a set price per person. The seafood sashimi is particularly noteworthy for its high quality, and while lobster servings are limited to one portion, other dishes can be ordered without restriction. The restaurant boasts ample seating in a spacious area and provides excellent dining environment and service. Due to its popularity, it's advisable to make reservations in advance, especially during peak dining hours.
My review is for the Wandao at 400 Changle Road located on a corner building on the second floor. It is a very nice Japanese restaurant, not coffee shop as noted on Google Maps. Excellent service, quick food to table, superb quality in sashimi, beautiful plate decor, lovely ambiance and for $380 RMB per person all you can eat on the menu ($54 usd), that is a steal!! I literally just finished my dinner here and uploading my review now...it was that good!

There was a Japanese staff member, so I didn't have any trouble speaking the language. They serve strange Japanese food at a reasonable price that makes you wonder if it's really made by Japanese people. It's at the level of a set meal restaurant, so I wouldn't recommend it. Shake Shack Xintiandi is a well-known burger joint in Shanghai that offers a veggie patty for non-meat eaters. The restaurant is located in the vibrant Xintiandi area, known for its flashy lights and beautiful decor. In addition to their delicious burgers, Shake Shack also hosts live music events featuring Shanghai's jazz, blues, and soul scenes late into the night. Other popular international chains like Starbucks and Taco Bell can also be found in this lively area.
Shake Shack in Shanghai is in a fantastic location, ideal for exploring the area—there’s even an occasional free concert nearby, which adds to the experience. The food was amazing, and as a first-time visitor to Shake Shack, I have to say it takes the top spot for fast-food burgers. I highly recommend ordering the cheese sauce to pour over the French fries—it’s a perfect addition. I tried the cheeseburger with bacon and avocado, and loved how the avocado balanced the richness of the bacon and burger.

The mulberry shake was yummy. The chips were crispy. The burger was moist and tasty. There's not much to complain about the food. Finding seating was hard though, on a weekend with so many tourists in the area.

I came here mid Nov 2024 and went in to shake shack for lunch. Frankly it would be hard if you haven't try this restaurant before because their staffs are not really into English.. thank God I had a mandarin speaking colleague, phew! So no sweat.. we had a mouthwatering meal ordered. I ordered something based on pictures for the first time.. lol.. okok, it was white truffle mayo in a beef burger.. and the fries is fantastic.. forget about McD... this is next level.. their chocolate milkshake is nice, compared the usual are pretty thick with lots of ice but this is light..if you get what I meant.. lots of people there, so not an east task to grab a table though. They do offer vegetarian dish too and my colleague said it was delicious too. So if you're in Xin Tian Di, and can't spend too much, this is the right place. 😉
MK L — Google review
It's literally your standard shake shack except the quality of beef is a slightly worse (as with most beef in China) and the quality of veggies are slightly better (as with all produce in China). What some other reviewers say about a language barrier does not apply, because there are kiosks with English menus.
David L — Google review
Good place, good food, good beer & good staff. If you miss western fast food or burger while you are in Shanghai, please come here. The burger & beer are much better than in Osaka, Japan
Peter F — Google review
It's always full of people, i think because the burger itself is really special. It's worth it. The taste is unique and delicious. Not only the burger, but you have to try the fries and also the smoothies. The waiters are friendly and helpful. Would love to come back again to enjoy the burger and xintiandi!

Kappo Yu is a renowned restaurant in Shanghai, China, known for its authentic kaiseki and sushi that rivals those found in Japan. The establishment has garnered praise from individuals familiar with both the Shanghai and Tokyo dining scenes. While it may be on the pricier side, many consider the experience well worth it due to the delicious offerings and intriguing culinary presentations.
A very nice experience. Food was delicious, with everything cooked or cut flawlessly. From the entrance to the dining room, the restaurant is decorated tastefully and thoughtfully. I also like the projection behind the chefs, which added color to the evening in just the right way. Great date place. I think this is the most authentically Japanese dining experience I have had in China. Even the bathroom was decorated as it would in Japan. And most importantly, the food was excellent.

OOEDO Japanese Restaurant, also known as "da jiang hu ri ben liao li," is a top choice for Japanese cuisine in Shanghai. The restaurant is praised for its welcoming atmosphere and attentive service, making diners feel right at home. Guests have the option to order à la carte or enjoy the buffet, ensuring a satisfying dining experience for all preferences.
Sashimi was average, and expensive (typical of Japanese restaurants ). I spent about 250 RMB for the buffet dinner and a couple of sake drinks. Went solo and was rushed (more than once) by the waitress as I worked on my second sake. Part of the dining experience is to be able to take your time and enjoy the meal. I had a singles table as far back in the place as was possible, but the waitress still felt it was necessary to pressure me to hurry. If not for that, I would have given it a 3 star rating for the food.

Located on the 91st floor of one of the world's tallest buildings, 100 Century Avenue offers breathtaking views of Shanghai. The restaurant features a show kitchen and an extensive wine selection. Its diverse menu includes Western steakhouse options, Chinese wok dishes, and Japanese sushi and sashimi. With well-marbled beef cuts and a variety of culinary delights, this three-floor venue provides a unique dining experience complemented by stunning panoramic city vistas.
What a fantastic place to see the whole city along the river at night. Very romantic location, and the food and service is excellent, can highly recommend this place. I would recommend to make a booking by the window.
Perry P — Google review
Sun, the manager in charge, gave us the most memorable experience❣️ Needless to say, the food was excellent. The view from the 91st floor is absolutely stunning. Ask for private seating to enjoy a little more atmosphere along with the view. Naturally, a place like this—located in the Park Hyatt Shanghai, offering top-quality ingredients with unbelievable freshness—comes at a price.
Thomas K — Google review
This place is split into 2 sides - Cantonese Cuisine side and the steakhouse side. The steakhouse side looks towards the bund. Service is great. Food is great too. Definitely a decent place for celebrations.
C C — Google review
This place is located at 90sth floor on at the Hyatt. The ambient is like any other roof top bar restaurant. I would come here for a beautiful night view to celebrate birthdays etc. Food here taste normal let's face it your here for the view not the food. Drinks are nice though. The price to value for here you pay what you get for, a premium price for the nice view. Overall I would rate this place with the following: Location: 8/10 Ambient: 8/10 Taste: 6/10 Service: 10/10 Price: 6/10
Mike — Google review
Meh overall. 5-star views and an extensive western wine list. Food and service are solidly average, but the price of the food, at 800 RMB for the set menu, is absurdly high given the average quality. The ambiance is also rather weird, with loud pop-esque music playing throughout the restaurant, and cold drafts everywhere; definitely not what'd you expect for something at this price point. If you do go, be prepared for overpriced dinner but with stunning views of the city. Call ahead and make a reservation for a window table -- the experience is definitely not worth it if you're not sitting at a window. Also, avoid the Chinese wine... seemed like a fun thing to try being in China, but there's a reason there are only 2-3 Chinese wines on the list. Definitely not worth the ~600RMB bottle.
Zach M — Google review
The food and service are average, but the view is definitely worth the price of admission. The overall ambiance is somewhat casual however but the space is still really nice after years.
Adamo S — Google review
Really good food with incredible views. This was one of the highlights of our visit to Shanghai, and I would say it's a must if the weather is clear. Take your photos of the city early as a lot of the lights were turned off around 10pm when we visited in the spring of 2016.
Luke W — Google review
Let me be out with it: the view is amazing and hard to beat (perhaps the new Shanghai Tower can best it). But, in addition to that, you'll find a great mix of Chinese and American fare. Prices are probably a bit high for the service but memories of that will melt away because the experience is out of this world.
