Visit the Fabric Market in Shanghai for a vibrant shopping experience. The market offers a wide range of fabrics, from silk to cashmere, as well as electronics and home goods. You can explore stalls like the Milano Tailor Shop and discover unique items like old AllSaints smocks and designer scarves.
I’ve been a loyal customer of Suits by Susan (No. 269 & 271) since 2019, and after so many years and countless visits, I can confidently say this is hands-down the best place in Shanghai to buy suits and shirts — and likely one of the finest tailoring experiences you’ll find anywhere. From the very first time I stepped into their shop, I was impressed by the professionalism, attention to detail, and the genuine care Susan and her team put into every piece they create. Whether it’s a classic business suit, a tailored shirt, or something more unique, the craftsmanship is always impeccable. Over the years, I’ve had many suits and shirts made here, and the quality has been consistently top-notch. What truly sets Suits by Susan apart is their dedication to customer satisfaction. On the rare occasion that something wasn’t quite right — a fit that needed adjusting or a detail I wanted changed — the team never hesitated to make it right. They listen carefully, offer thoughtful suggestions, and go the extra mile to ensure you walk out happy and confident in what you’re wearing. The fabrics they offer are high-quality and varied, with options for every taste and budget. The styling advice is spot on — modern yet timeless — and you always feel like you’re in the hands of someone who understands not just fashion, but how to make you look and feel your best. In short: If you’re in Shanghai and looking for high-quality, perfectly tailored clothing with outstanding customer service, Suits by Susan should be your first (and probably last) stop.

I had an outstanding experience!! Kelly was absolutely amazing — the suit was made incredibly fast, with impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. The service was truly exceptional: warm, professional, and attentive throughout the entire process. We made 2 entire suits and it took only one day! The fact that Kelly speaks perfect English made communication so easy and comfortable. If I ever need another suit, I will definitely come back here. Highly recommended! Located on the ground floor, shop number 167.

From escalator, walk straight and you'll see Joyce & Rita . Stall 129 for suits . Stall 159 opposite for dresses, gowns, qipaos . Do go early in your trip to allow time for adjustments if needed (They will adjust till you're satisfied. I didn't have to adjust as it was perfect the first time!) and more time to make more pieces after you appreciate the high level of service and quality from them. Bespoke, custom-made, tailor-made to your measurements. Choose everything to the finest details (type of collar, buttons, etc). They have wide range of fabrics so you'll definitely find something that suits your budget and needs. Can also get advice from them as to what suits your body shape, what is the current fashion trends, etc.. Overall a very satisfying experience. My go-to place whenever I'm in Shanghai. Highly recommended!

Suits by Susan!!!! My friend Andy works here and I have been buying suits from him for years — he’s amazing! He used to be in a shop at AP Plaza but he moved over here after the pandemic and continues to do great work at Suits by Susan. I got two new suits, a sports coat, and two shirts. As always, they are incredible quality and they were able to get them made within 48 hours to meet my limited time in town!
Boilermaker D — Google review
I'm extremely happy with Suits by Susan! The tailor is highly professional, has a great eye for detail, and always takes the time to listen to my requests. I've bought several pieces here, and every single one turned out perfectly - whether it was a suit, shirt, or alterations. The quality and fit are outstanding, and you can really tell that everything is made with passion. Absolutely recommend!

I had a great experience in the Suits by Susan buying two custom tailored trousers and two shirts for 2000 yen. The clothes are perfectly tailored with the supreme quality materials. The service is super nice and helpful. I definitely recommend as part of Shanghai experience and best possible souvenir from here. Big thank you for everybody at Suits By Susan.
Marcin P — Google review
Amazing experience at Suits By Susan. For the initial fitting, they took their time with all of our requests. Second fitting went super smooth (just two days later) and nothing needed adjustments! No wonder famous NBA players (like Dirk Nowitzki) come here! Highly recommend to come and get your perfect suit for a great price!
Filip S — Google review
We definitely recommend Suits by Susan on the 2nd floor! We've got a great service in English, with very patient and professional stuff. Of course we're very happy with the final result - the clothes have great fabric and of course suit very good the measurements. Also prices are very nice and affordable. Big recommendation!

Xintiandi is a vibrant area in Shanghai that offers a blend of traditional and modern experiences. It's conveniently located near popular attractions like The Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and Nanjing Road. This district is known for its Shanghainese Shikumen architecture, which combines Chinese tradition with Western influences. Visitors can explore the area's unique buildings housing bars, cafes, and shops.
Best place in town to visit if you want to eat and chill and shop until you drop. It looks like a mixture of European culture and traditional Chinese style. The air is so cool and modernized. There are many high quality shops in the area along with 5 stars restaurants.
Ngoc T — Google review
They called it the french quarter but didn't see much french influence. Some parts of the architecture reminded me of the french quarter in New Orleans. I really appreciated the old architecture styles. I was also expecting Chinese street food, but most of the establishments here are catered for Westerners. Lost of pubs and cafes.
Elle Y — Google review
Xintiandi is a must-visit destination in Shanghai, offering a unique blend of traditional Shikumen architecture and modern luxury. This upscale neighborhood is filled with trendy boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants serving a range of cuisines, from traditional Shanghainese to international fine dining. The area's historic charm is beautifully preserved, with narrow alleys and traditional stone gates, while the modern amenities and stylish decor give it a sleek, cosmopolitan feel. Whether you're looking to shop, dine, or simply soak up the atmosphere, Xintiandi has something for everyone. It's a great place to experience the best of Shanghai's past and present. Visit in the evening when the area is beautifully lit up. Try some of the local street food or desserts. Explore the smaller alleys and side streets for unique boutiques. Enjoy Shanghai!
Harby N — Google review
This trendy spot is packed with bars and cafes — perfect for chilling and unwinding with a beer after a long day of shopping. Great vibes, lively atmosphere, and plenty of places to just sit back and people-watch. Definitely a cool hangout destination!

This was a popular posh shopping area with luxury brands, restos, cafes. The old style structures were maintained and it looked so pretty.
Astrow T — Google review
A must-see place in Shanghai. You must come and walk around, take photos and experience the atmosphere of a European market.
CHALERMKIAT P — Google review
Love how this place mixes old-school charm with fancy shops—no need to buy anything, just walk and enjoy the vibe! Insta-worthy every corner.
00Y — Google review
It is a small Europe where you can see pretty European-style buildings, restaurants, and shops. European restaurants and dessert cafes on the main street are also good, but I recommend hidden gem, Chinese restaurants in the back alley. I happen to visit Loonfung house and cuisines there were more than expected. Wonderful place!

Tianzifang, located in the former French Concession area of Shanghai, is a charming destination filled with narrow alleys and quaint shops, cafes, and bars. This arts and crafts hub has retained the old European district's character through its preserved architecture and layout. Visitors can explore numerous small galleries and craft shops while enjoying traditional cuisine at the many restaurants or relaxing in the numerous cafes. At night, Tianzifang comes alive with music joints, artists' studios, and workshops.
A village within the city. A place to wander and relax. A time neutral zone away from the stress of life. We lost something in the modernity of modern shopping malls.. Rejuvenation has worked well for this calm oasis of small boutiques, coffee shops and artisan craft workshops.
Kevin P — Google review
Too many people (China Public holiday cum Weekends). There souvenirs, pubs and food here. Prices is rasonable too except clothing :) Its gonna be hot, so wear appropriately
Deadpool — Google review
Small lanes with retail and cafes lining the area. We went in the afternoon and it was cool as it was cloudy today. There is a large mall with plenty of restaurants to pick from also. There are public toilets in the area and if you cant find it, ask the vendors for directions or spot the lime green signage
Wilfred S — Google review
Came here in Nove 2024 and the weather was good... despite quite a lot of people, this place was several entrance and exit points. Whichever you enter or exit, it is a cool place to visit, buy some souvenir which I did and if you have difficulties paying using your e-wallet, don't get panic, they offer you WiFi for better connectivity especially when you're using roaming. The sellers are really nice and they comprised of small stores of all variety of items you could and couldn't think of. If you have chance, dropby any tea house and they will offer you a cup of tea. After that, you will be captivated with their tea and you will buy.. 😆 frankly the items are really affordable and not overly priced.
MK L — Google review
This is one of the most vibrating part of ShangHai. It is a Maze of small streets full of design clothing or fancy souvenirs plus some bohemian pubs. Nice place to chill for a while
Alfonso A — Google review
This is considered the super artsy street but it's very touristy (and not artsy in my opinion). I was imagining more local artists and murals and such. Lots of branded stuff but definitely more local than a mall. I saw maybe 3 tour groups when here by myself. Overpriced area but nice to walk. Can't say that I'd come again. People do live in the neighborhood so please be respectful of noise and such!
Allison L — Google review
Nice place for leisure walk. The alleys are narrow but full of character. Souvenir shops and restaurants can be found here.
John P — Google review
Things are very much for the tourists and many duplicates. Example, few shops selling the same rabbit candies. Mouldy smell in small alley. Overall, for experience or photo takings. The place is not that big but walking along the road you may reach more heritage places. So it might just be a part of the itinerary but not the main highlight. If this is the first stop. Then take line 9. Besides there is a huge shopping mall.

Shanghai A.P. Xinyang Fashion & Gifts Market, formerly known as Huatinglu Fashion Market, is a popular shopping destination in Shanghai, China. It features numerous private shops offering trendy clothing and small accessories, attracting both local youth and international visitors. If you're planning a 3 to 5-day shopping itinerary in Shanghai, consider including this market along with other popular spots like Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, South Bund Fabric Market, and more for a diverse shopping experience.
It's easy to find just get off the green Metro line at the Science and Technology Museum stop. There are so many "genuine copy" goods on sale here it's amazing. You need to back it really hard and be polite but Ferb and stay friendly and have a laugh about it all. There are definitely some fantastic bargains to be had if you're savvy about it. If you need glasses made up, go and see Sandy at Hellen optical and she will really look after you - very high quality.
Lachlan B — Google review
The fake market in Shanghai is a wild and fun experience if you go in with the right mindset. Easy to find, literally just outside the metro station "Shanghai Science & Technology Museum", underground. First tip: don’t buy from the first shop you see—take a walk around and get a feel for what things are going for. Prices are way inflated at first, so whatever they ask, aim to go at least 60–70% lower and start negotiating from there. It’s all part of the game, and honestly, the shop owners are pros at it. Don’t take it personally—it’s like a sport, and they respect you more if you play along. Be friendly, have fun with it, and you can walk away with some great deals.
Alvaro L — Google review
I would highly recommend Wei Wei Clothing (A3-59) from the pictures below. They have a variety of genuinely high quality football jerseys, including special editions and vintage, for around 180-200 yuan. The lady working there is super sweet and was really helpful :) However in the mall be careful of less pleasant vendors following and harassing you…
Eric Y — Google review
Pros: - Super easy to reach — it’s right inside the Metro building. - Tons of options for souvenirs and gift items. Cons: - Most items are pretty cheap in quality. - Prices are crazy high to start with (they’ll often ask 3 to 10 times what the item is actually worth!). - You’ll need to bargain hard at almost every shop. Overall: If you just want souvenirs or small gifts, you’re honestly better off ordering from AliExpress or Temu. For clothes, bags, and similar stuff, check out the market at Shanghai Railway Square (near McDonald’s). The quality is much better, prices are fair, and while you’ll still need to negotiate a bit, it’s nowhere near as extreme.
Gayantha S — Google review
A hidden gem for budget shoppers—A.P. Plaza offers everything from clothes to souvenirs at prices way cheaper than the main streets. Unlike other markets, it’s not too crowded, you can browse without the usual chaos. Bargaining is expected (start low!), and quality varies, but it’s a fun place to hunt for deals without the hassle. Great for souvenirs or random finds.
ChrisTina — Google review
It's a unique experience shopping here. You can find a wide range of stuff here but the true value or thrill is in the bargaining process. The idea is to typically quote 1/10th of what their first quote is and then basis the reaction you can figure it out. The sellers are respectful and competitive. Most shops accept international cards as well so that makes it simpler for the foreign nationals.
Soummo B — Google review
Not good. Too much western tourists and HIGH prices. Every store has similar products. Not even worth haggling because they are so used to getting high prices from customers.

Store
Tianshan Tea City is a multilevel marketplace in Shanghai that's a haven for tea enthusiasts. With over 150 stalls offering an extensive range of tea leaves and teaware, it's a paradise for tea lovers. The faux-traditional building houses numerous vendors who are eager to provide samples and share their expertise on different types of tea and brewing methods.
My go to place to get tea pots, cups, sets & accessories @ 2nd level. My favourite store has the contemporary glass ware & traditional tea sampling sets that cost 1/3 of what you see at the malls or outside shops. 1st level covers all the teas, from individual tea bags, loose teas and tea cakes of 10 years & above white tea, red teas & black teas. There are two blocks of building, the lower building on the left (fm main gate), is where the best shops are. I discovered a shop on this visit & decided to take a break sampling the teas offered. The lady boss was very knowledgable & efficiently brewing the teas as we chatted. The 14-yr white tea was light & developed slowly to sweet by the third cup, a variety you can drink everyday, the whole day! We had the matured pu-er and the young pu-er, which was an interesting contrast with different properties, one more beneficial to seniors on a daily consumption. The oolong was much better than I had else where, it was strong, robust & will go very well with meaty dishes. All in, my extra time spent here was much more enjoyable & educational.

If you’re looking for an authentic Chinese tea ceremony with a warm atmosphere and perfect English communication, I can’t recommend Eternitea enough! 🌿✨ Located on the ground floor, this little tea shop is absolutely charming. The presentation of the teas was not only beautiful but also very educational – we learned so much while enjoying different flavors. The host is incredibly kind, welcoming, and speaks excellent English, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Truly one of the highlights of our visit – thank you for the hospitality and unforgettable tea journey! 🍵💚
Ajda I — Google review
Tea shopping at Tianshan Tea City, 2nd floor, Box 2105, with Mr. Chen Zhifeng. A very friendly welcome and immediate invitation to drink tea and try different teas. At the same time, Mr. Chen explains the secrets of brewing each tea individually, so you leave with a genuine understanding. Prices are based on the quality of the tea – fair and transparent. Communication is partly in English, partly via an app, allowing for flexible shopping. Anyone who values quality and knowledge and doesn't like frills should come here. We learned a lot from him and wish him continued success.
Al Y — Google review
There's several floors of tea shops and it's a great place to get your fill of tea and stock up on tea, pots, cups and whatever you need. Be prepared to spend several hours here enjoying and chatting. It's not as busy as expected and I was told that this is more common recently. Still lots of stalls open on a Sunday so I recommend coming here rather than a standalone shop.
Allison L — Google review
I had amazing experience in shop no 3138. The owner speaks English and is a tea farmer himself. He was extremely nice and shared a lot of interesting facts about teas, farming and preparation. He prepared many different teas to taste. An absolute must is Oriental Charm Tea coming from his farm. Highly recommend!

A must-visit hidden gem in Shanghai for the most authentic tea experience. Make sure to find the shops of Ye Yuanqing - the sisters welcomed me to try their tea and we ended up spending almost two hours tasting, chatting and learning about Chinese tea. 💛

Store 2105 in Tianshan Cha Cheng. Store owner is very nice to us. He patiently explained the sources of the tea leaves and generously let us try the different sort of teas. He is also very knowledgeable in tea and explain the way to make it in detail, and the various grades of tea. He is friendly and chat with us too, highly recommended ! 😍

Highly recommend Susie's Shop. Enjoyable experience with tea ceremony and got to experience the different types of tea. Was not pressured to buy, so only bought the ones that I enjoyed. Enter " 古树寮茶 " in ride hailing app should get you to the Northeast Gate. After entering, walk the lane on the right. You should see the shop on the right with a red sign.

Shopping
IFC Mall, also known as the Shanghai International Financial Centre Shopping Mall, is a luxurious and upscale shopping destination located in the Lujiazui Financial Area. The mall is home to an array of international luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Prada, Dior, Chanel, and Coach. Additionally, visitors can find the first Apple Store Flagship here. The mall also features high-end restaurants and a gourmet supermarket offering global delicacies.
A very youthful mall with lots of sporty brands, instagrammable spots, and value eats. Be sure to mall hop from here using the connected overhead bridge to experience the shopping in Shanghai. Of course don't forget to shop with a drink in hand like a local- bubble tea perhaps?
Lucas T — Google review
Amazing mall for the rich and famous and dreamers. All popular pricey brands. Great selection of shops, clean and high end mall. Great restaurants too. Not for the frugal.
Colin L — Google review
If malls had a VIP lounge in heaven, Shanghai IFC Mall would probably be on the guest list. Opened in 2010, right in the beating heart of Lujiazui’s glittering financial district, it’s the kind of place where skyscrapers flex and wallets get nervous. You’ve got the famous Apple Store here - the one with the glass cylinder entrance that feels like stepping into a Bond villain’s lair, except instead of world domination, you just walk out with a new iPhone and a lighter bank account). Inside, it’s a wonderland of luxury brands—Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton—all waiting to test your willpower. Even the escalators feel like they’ve been polished with Versace perfume. And yet, in the middle of all this glam, you can still do something as wonderfully practical as… buy your groceries. Tucked away is City’Super, the poshest supermarket where you’ll find imported cheeses that could probably tell better stories than your travel blog. It’s the kind of mall where you come for a window-shopping “adventure” but end up mysteriously holding shopping bags. A place where you say, “I’m just here for coffee,” and walk out wearing sunglasses that cost as much as a plane ticket. Perfect for: people-watching, brand-spotting, and occasionally pretending you’re in a music video while walking past the marble floors.
The T — Google review
An iconic piece of architecture filled with high-end brands. I highly recommend visiting not just to admire the design, but also to take the opportunity to shop. It’s a great place to get everything you want while in Seoul, rather than waiting to buy it back home. A must-stop for both shopping and sightseeing.

All the shops (Included food and beverages) in IFC Mall are well-known chain brands, so you can enjoy great food without having to go all the way into the city. Just keep in mind that it gets very crowded during lunchtime because of nearby offices, so it’s best to avoid that time.

Shanghai Kaitai Glasses Wholesale Market is a haven for eyewear enthusiasts, offering a wide array of glasses in various brands, colors, and styles at remarkably affordable prices. Located on Muling Road, this market provides an extensive space for leisurely browsing and selecting the perfect pair. With the option to negotiate prices and even have custom glasses made within 15 minutes, it's a great spot to find quality eyewear without breaking the bank.
Great place to find glasses and have them made in 15 minutes - good prices to be negotiated

If you’re a tourist, be prepared to be ripped off. They’ll quote sky high prices and hope you’ll negotiate for less than 50% discount. They could tell I wasn’t local even though I’m Chinese and speak Chinese, and they tried to rip me off. Managed to negotiate for 80% discount at one shop on the ground floor. Those nearer to the entrance won’t budge.

Qipu Road Clothing and Accessories Commercial Pedestrian Street is a bustling market in Shanghai that offers a wide range of products for both domestic and international markets. From clothing, apparel, children's clothes, underwear, skirts, shoes to jeans, T-shirts, bags and more. It is known for providing the latest fashion at incredibly low prices. This century-old market is famous for its wholesale high-street fashion brands and provides an authentic old Shanghai experience with its vibrant atmosphere.
Loved shopping here because most stores have prices displayed, less haggling (which I really don’t enjoy) Also there are many locals shopping here so you know the place must be good.
Jennifer U — Google review
This is a fantastic place to shop for whatever you need in clothing, but keep in mind that negotiation is key here! The listed prices are often just the starting point, and you should begin your bargaining at around one-tenth of the mentioned price. The final price is entirely up to your negotiation skills, so don’t shy away from haggling. The more effort you put into negotiating, the better deal you’ll get. It’s a unique shopping experience where the value of goods is determined by how well you bargain. Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy the art of negotiation!
Ali A — Google review
Good quality, but not as cheap as I think for a no brand stuffs. Bought a no brand bag start from 250RMB. A lot of broker will offer you their hidden collection of replica bags. If you ignore it they will offer you better quality of replica bags. I don't have any intentions to see or buy a replica bags so I don't know about the quality. Bought a leather bag with a good quality. There's a food court inside with wide variety of foods.
Felita G — Google review
Locals recommended going to this market to buy local cheap clothing, but it wasn’t what I expected. First, as soon we got out of the cab, one guy started following us and told us he will take us to better market. He will get commission if we buy something from the shops of his choice. They do t care what you want, they will really push you to go to the shops they have connection with the owners. Cloths are expensive, compared to US. Even the first copy is more expensive than original. Just double check prices, I bet those things are way more cheaper on Amazon. Very overrated place.
Hanspal K — Google review
Highly Recommended for Bargain Shoppers! If you're on the hunt for affordable fashion in Shanghai, don’t miss Qipu Road (七浦路). This bustling shopping spot is a goldmine for cheap clothes—many of the same styles you’ll find in malls are sold here at a fraction of the price. It’s like Shanghai’s version of Bangkok’s Pratunam Mall: a wholesale fashion haven, but with way fewer crowds. From trendy streetwear and everyday basics to winter coats and accessories, Qipu has it all. Even locals shop here, which says a lot! Just be ready to dig a little and maybe do some light bargaining. A must-visit for budget-conscious fashion lovers!
ChrisTina — Google review
Touts are deployed at the subway exit that is connected directly to this shopping centre. As a foreigner, the moment you exit the station, these pest will bother you, about cheap branded items available, even after telling them numerous times that I do not want their recommendations. They are so persistent that once you ignore them, they will start to raise their voice as if to get you to follow them. So to throw them off, I just walked briskly in circles a few times, as he kept pestering my wife and I, until the he relented. This seems to happen at certain parts of the shopping centre. Once you make your way to certain areas, these pests do not encroach into that areas. It's like a code that they are supposed to uphold and you are 'free' to shop in peace. Price wise, it's stated on the merchandise for some shops. Those that don't, you will be 'fleeced' so just offer half of the quoted amount and then haggle your way till a reasonable price is agreed. If you are unable to do so, just offer a thank you and walked away.
Bernard J — Google review
This market is ok type place for clothings. They say clothes are cheaper price. Though it’s not that cheap. Place is 5 floors. Most of the clothes are for winter. Place is very untidy. If you compare cheap clothing market with. Bangkok..does come even closer. Even Jakarta(Indonesia have better shopping places for cheaper price). You can go and visit and decide by your self if it’s worth visiting.

Great place to buy pearls. No shops were pushy and they have a lot of different options. You’ll pay 25%-33% of typical US prices. Most Pearl shops are on the 2nd floor and are named after people. Julie’s and Anna‘s were very friendly and after shopping a bit I got good quality at a great price.

Fun little market with all the knock off brand names. A lot of the shops have a hidden back room for "friend" prices and brands. Also please note the color of your bag, depending on your bargaining skills they may change the color of your bag.

A must stop if you’re staying near by. I’ve stayed at the Hilton (very close) multiple times. From the hotel, it’s an easy walk. Bridge across the street, passing plenty of places to eat on your way back. Highly recommend Dannie & Blake!! They’ve been there 14 years! They have “friend prices” and better deals in “away spots” than what they show at the store front. Cash is king here!...better deals when using RMB.

Great place for a bit of fake and clothing shopping, without the stress of the science museum market. Prices are a tad higher, but haggling is less extreme and the quality generally better. Dannie & Blake particularly recommended!

This is probably one of the most famous streets in the city. It's a huge, pedestrian-only promenade, known for its neon signs and mix of old and modern architecture. Honestly, despite the hype, we felt it's just a big main street full of shops. It's the main shopping district, with all the major international brands and shopping malls. If your goal is shopping, this is the right place.
Luana B — Google review
If Shanghai had a beating heart, it would be strutting proudly down Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. Born in the 19th century as a trading hub for expats, this street has evolved into the ultimate catwalk of lights, shopping bags, and mouth-watering Shanghai treats. Where else can you snack your way through history? I stumbled onto the infamous Big White Rabbit candy store (the one that turned everyone’s childhood teeth into sugar crystals), then somehow wandered into a Chocolate Museum—because calories don’t count on holiday. 🍫 Around the corner, the silver store guarded by an imperial dragon stopped me in my tracks… those intricate silver masterpieces look like they belong in a palace treasury. Hungry? Step into the indoor food street packed with steaming buns, sizzling skewers, and snacks that make you question your luggage allowance. This busy street will carry you towards the Peace Hotel and Swatch peace hotel, which carries a class of its own. The end will bring you towards the bund with a splendid view of Huangpu river where the skyline is filled with Shanghai’s finest buildings and skyscrapers. Tips: • Come at night—the neon glow feels like you’re inside a Shanghai screensaver.
The T — Google review
Busy, bright, and full of energy—it’s a shopping street that feels more like a show. There’s something happening everywhere, from street performers to colorful lights and massive stores. Even if you’re not shopping, it’s fun to just walk through and take it all in. Best seen at night when everything comes alive.
Chinzorig C — Google review
Beautiful spot for sightseeing and shopping. Teemall shopping centre has plenty of international and local brands for shopping. Beautiful temple in pedestrian street and further down is Metro mall with local shops and boutiques at very affordable prices. Food options everywhere you look, from street food to local restaurants. You can also find higher end restaurants and western food options in Teemall. If you are catching a taxi/Didi, there are allocated pickup/drop off points and the easiest one being at the entrance of Teemall. There is a good umbrella and suitcase shop just opposite the mall as well.
Tinto R — Google review
Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is Shanghai’s neon runway where capitalism and cardio collide. Stretching nearly 5.5 km, it’s been the city’s shopping artery since the 19th century, once hailed as “China’s No. 1 Commercial Street.” Back then, it was rickshaws and tailor shops, today it’s global brands, glowing billboards, and a human traffic jam disguised as retail therapy. The street is split into two personalities. Nanjing Road East (南京东路) runs from the Bund to People’s Square and is all about big brands, neon lights, and crowds dense enough to qualify as a new species of organism. It’s here you’ll find the 大白兔 (White Rabbit) flagship shop, selling childhood nostalgia as candy and merch, the Choc Choco Museum, which manages to make chocolate both educational and addictive, and the 上海银文化馆 (Shanghai Silver Museum), where centuries of silver craft try to outshine the LED billboards outside. Then there’s Nanjing Road West (南京西路), where the vibe shifts from candy-coated chaos to high-end luxury. Think Gucci, Prada, and malls so shiny they reflect your financial insecurities. It’s quieter here, less about sugar highs and more about credit card lows. Walking the whole stretch is like playing a marathon-length video game. You dodge selfie sticks, weave through tour groups, and realize three blocks of effort only move you from Zara to Uniqlo. By night, the East glows like a high-voltage carnival, while the West smolders with expensive restraint. Yes, it’s crowded, yes, it’s commercial, and yes, you’ll leave poorer but somehow satisfied. Nanjing Road is history wrapped in neon, where East and West compete to see who can empty your wallet faster. Highly recommended if you enjoy cardio, consumerism, and cultural whiplash.
The G — Google review
Nanjing Road is Shanghai’s commercial heart—a true sensory overload! I walk past grand, historic department stores straight into modern global flagships, showing the incredible blend of old money and new ambition, with global brands highlighting the city's shine. The lifestyle here is vibrant but prepare for the crowds! I recommend visiting at night when the dazzling neon signs create a spectacular show. Took the small ‘Dangdang’ tram to appreciate the grand architecture without getting caught in the rush. A must for first-time visitors!

Jing'an Temple is a historic Buddhist complex located in the bustling center of Shanghai. The temple, which comprises three main halls and houses a large sitting jade Buddha, offers visitors a unique experience against the backdrop of busy shopping malls and skyscrapers. The aroma of incense fills the air as you wander through the halls, where you can light incense bundles and make offerings at various shrines and statues.
Jing'an Temple has a quiet, spiritual and ancient look in the central of Shanghai, the architecture brings me a slow down in the middle of the bustling city. The temple consists of 3 towers with attractive golden roof tiles, very clean and well maintained facility. Many majestic Buddha statues with meticulous and sophisticated sculptures. In the middle of the temple yard, there is a tall tower where you can make wishes and throw coins into (to make the wish come true). Entrance fee: 50 yuan/person.

It's truly a spectacular piece of architecture—the sheer scale of the gold roof against the blue sky is breathtaking and incredibly photogenic. What amazed me was the sense of contrast. You step off the incredibly busy Nanjing West Road, and suddenly, you're in this pocket of peace and quiet. The incense, the chanting, and the stunning halls create a wonderfully calm and spiritual atmosphere right in the middle of a major CBD. It's a gorgeous escape. It’s easy to get to, being near the Metro station and you are hosted by the friendly volunteers. You need a ticket to get into the temple. Highly recommend this for anyone visiting the city—it’s an unforgettable cultural experience!

A beautiful and vibrant temple that provides a wonderful cultural counterpoint to the ultra-modern Jing'an district. The 50 RMB entry fee for foreigners is very reasonable (and you can pay via WeChat/Alipay). A great tip: head to the buildings at the back and the stairs for lower crowds and much better photo opportunities than the main courtyard. A must-do when in the area. Really recommended to visit!

Jing'an Temple is an amazing and vibrant temple right in the heart of Shanghai's modern business district. It's a striking contrast of ancient gold architecture against a backdrop of skyscrapers, making for some truly awesome photos. While it's a bustling and active temple, which is cool to see, the crowds can sometimes detract from the peaceful, spiritual vibe. Still, it's a fantastic historical spot to visit, and definitely a unique Shanghai experience.

Wonderful architecture! The temple is really full of people, but still feeling calm and relax. The gate fee is 50 RMB which is easily paid by both cash and alipay, and this is super worthy. I and my friend just followed local people to respect the holy gods. There are connecting bridges to walk around the temple. The incense smoke is all around the area, that made the temple more sacred. Highly recommend!!!

Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a modern institution that offers an array of educational programs, multimedia exhibits, and theaters. It's a top museum in the city, perfect for spending an entertaining afternoon. Families will find developmental games for children, making it a great destination for all ages. The museum features 12 exhibition areas spread across three floors, covering topics such as Rainforests of Yunnan, Earth's Crust Exploration, World of Robots, Space Navigation Area and more.
We can not enter the museum due to maintenance and construction things. They said the construction takes about next year

Looking forward to the reopening of the museum. We lived in Shanghai for three years and my son just couldn’t get enough of the place - we went there almost every weekend. So much to explore and there were new exhibitions and activities from time to time. Back to the US we haven’t found anything at the similar level in the east coast. The one in Boston maybe.
Xiaoqin S — Google review
The Shanghai Science & Technology Museum was grand in ambition, with its vast halls and futuristic façade, but the experience inside was uneven. Exhibits ranged widely—from biology and space to robotics and ecosystems. Yet many displays felt dated, overly didactic, or designed more for spectacle than insight. Some interactive zones worked well for children, but for adults seeking depth, the engagement was thin. The abundance of exhibits often diluted their impact. More is not necessarily better. Resources had clearly been poured into building and populating the museum, but without continuous renewal and sharper curation, much of it felt like a warehouse of science rather than a living laboratory. Crowds added to the sense of fatigue—dense, noisy, and often more distracting than enriching. The architecture and sheer scale of the complex were impressive, projecting the image of a city invested in science and education. But inside, navigation felt cluttered, and the pacing lacked rhythm. Unlike smaller, focused museums, the Shanghai S&T Museum was a study in diffusion: too many exhibits, not enough coherence. The Shanghai Science & Technology Museum was a place of promise that delivered only partially. Worth seeing once for its scope, but ultimately less engaging than it could have been.

Unfortunately the Science museum is closed for renovation. I am not sure when it is opening but I am sure it will be amazing when it does open. Google please change the status to temporary closed

To learn the past, current and future of Shanghai. The city which is poised as the gateway of China to the world with the state of the art systems designed by the people and for the people. The city reinvents itself through innovation and challenge and at the same time conserving the the people's rich culture. The city is self healing and self sustaining. A true masterpiece of architecture and life. The city has big plans for its future and incorporates plans for the Young and old.

Outside of museum is with ample space, can book tickets online also. Direct exit from subway station. Close to the museum, there's a big shopping area. Prices are bit higher than normal, but always need to bargain. It's fun to shopping there...but do not buy unless you accept the price is right.

Underground, good place to buy, make sure you bargain, a silk scarf they start at 460 rmb, ended up getting it for 80 rmb which was still a little too much

This place is absolutely great. Definitely a landmark to visit on a school field trip. It is very educational and provides many resources for those that want to learn about science and technology. So many convenient things as well. Not to mention the portable charging stations all around. Come and check it out. It will not disappoint.

Flea & Street Markets
A.P. Plaza Tailor-Made & Clothes Market, located underground next to the Science and Technology Museum in Pudong, Shanghai, was once known for its availability of knockoff Western-branded merchandise. However, efforts by authorities have reduced the prevalence of pirated goods. While it's still possible to find some "gray goods" there, government surveillance has minimized this. Visitors can still find affordable items worth purchasing and enjoy haggling for cheap gifts at this market.
Was a bit difficult to find, but we got there. Heaps of clothes, electronics, tech, bags, shoes, all for VERY VERY good prices - you MUST haggle. There a a few Chinese takeaways and restaurants there as well. A very large tailor made suit area if that’s what you need. Can get there via the Metro (underground) or taxi or DiDi.

Step out of the subway and you'll find it right away! The stop is Science and Tech Museum. I had to repair my iPhone screen there. The quality of the workmanship is truly top-notch. If you need electronics, the prices are excellent, not like in Shenzhen, but excellent for Shanghai. Also great for clothing and many other things including food. I've circled the number of places you can find there in red. Bargaining respectfully is always a pleasure and creates new friendships. Highly recommended for Shanghai.
Lorenzo V — Google review
Famous bargain market in Shanghai. You can buy electronic items, shoes, clothes, ornaments, phone accessories, eye glasses. Always make sure to bargain and sometimes we closes deals at 20% of the initially quoted price. Initial price is always exorbitant. Dont expect to buy originals here. But if you are smart you can buy good quality ones. Eventhough the items are mostly fake, there is quality gradebstarting from grade 1. There are food courts and coffee shops and prices are reasonable.
Suram M — Google review
Everyone wants to rip you off, they’ll charge 10x more, you can find nice things but also a lot of overpriced low quality crap, not recommended for sunnies and electronics as I couldn’t find any nice good quality one, it’s really tiring and not worth if you’re only for a few days in the city. There’s a few nice sellers but also a lot of rude ones. Only recommended if you have a lot of time and patience and remember, they’ll try to charge you 10x more so be ready to bargain a lot.
Chris — Google review
Nice all are copies of Brands ...But they Well tell you Very very high Price. But You have to good gut's for Bargaining. For Example they well tell you 1200 Chinese Currency and After Last they well agree for 200 .. But Don't forget for Bargaining.you Can get here Toys branded Copy Shirts and Households Items and Cloths.Sometimes They well Scams to you If You don't have: idea about Items price
Hafeez R — Google review
very high prices for average quality, sellers not willing to negotiate. felt like a tourist trap. on the positive side the market offers wide selection of goods.
Cc I — Google review
I'm not sure it's as cheap as it claims to be. It's really hot in there with little airflow. You will be continuously heckled by vendors, but it's their job and they are friendly enough. Upon entry, you'll be chased by people who will guide you to their prefered stores. Can be handy, but you'll miss a lot. Be careful. The place is a labyrinth, and you can get lost. I would allow a day to fully explore and chase the deals. Don't be afraid to walk away. There's many stores offering the same goods. Stick to your guns with pricing.
Marki M — Google review
After a long hiatus, due to the Pandemic, I was back in Shanghai to see old friends. I also wanted to buy several items that friends back home asked me for, and I knew that for that I had to go to the famous "Fake Mall". Having visited it in 2019 I expected big changes like many stores closed or less attractive merchandise. Nothing like that. Everything looks just like it did 5 years ago. I was tasked to buy some ornamental jewelry and also a pearl collar. After walking through I settled on 2 stores where I found some great selection and prices (after the customary haggling). For the first items it was Cathy Jewelry at B1-27 and for the pearls it was Lily Jewelry at F-6. Both ladies speak pretty good English and were more than helpful, really taking their time with me, even though other customers walked in. I guess when you treat people as people, with respect, and not just as sales persons, then you can expect to be treated the same way. They were so helpful even after the sale, one accompanying me all the way in that big mall to a shoe store that she recommended (they didn't have my size for the shoes where the shoe size is printed on them, like the picture) and the other lady walking me through the maze to a clean rest room. Both of them were so sweet. I told them I would come back on my next trip, even if it's just to have some tea with them.

The town offers a unique culinary experience with local specialties like spicy pork dishes and crickets.
Charming ancient town with a wide variety of Chinese street food to enjoy. Conveniently located near the metro station with no entrance fee. Make sure to visit the temple, it's a must-see. Qibao is known for its cricket fighting, but unfortunately, we arrived too late to catch it :(

For seniors and first-time visitors to China, it may be a place to visit in Shanghai. You can stroll around the neighborhood and enjoy a lot of street food. However, the buildings here are actually rebuilt after the original ancient buildings were demolished, so if you want to explore real historical cultural monuments, this may not be your first choice. PS Avoid coming on public holidays

The mall has a central location near Shaanxi Nan Lu Station and offers an impressive central atrium connecting its various floors. Visitors can enjoy exploring the diverse range of shops, including a great food court and supermarket in the basement level. Additionally, there's a cinema on the top floor for entertainment.
This mall offers a variety of stores that cater to everyone’s needs, providing a wide selection of products to suit different tastes and preferences.

One of my personal favourite malls in Shanghai. I like the mix of high end fashion, to more affordable versions. The mall is spacious, clean and user friendly. There is some great restaurants on several floors. You can find Din Tai Fung, TWG, Starbucks and many many more. Shops like COS, Marimekko, Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu etc, it’s a long list as the mall is enormous. Here is also a place for manicure, LEGO shop and so many different shops. You can enter the mall from the tubestation.

Despite all the buzz, it was much ado about nothing. The prices are quite high here. Yima located right next to it offers far better prices. And yes, most of the variety in the 2 malls was common. No doubts APM mall was literally empty, while YIMA was bustling with customers.

Shanghai No.1 Department Store, established around the founding of the People's Republic of China, is the largest and most renowned department store in Shanghai. It offers a wide range of medium to high-class goods and targets white-collar young people and families with high purchasing power. The store has undergone major renovations and is located near famous landmarks like the Fairmont Peace Hotel. It sells everything from cosmetics to fashion items and is extremely popular among locals.
Its a very good massage experience. As after having dinner and shopping, we came to level 7 to do tax refund. Accidentally found out this place! The massage is very good and professional! Personally i get the oriental massage, which is a chinese style massage. After a long day sightseeing, this is a release!
Justagirl D — Google review
I assume the name Shanghai No. 1 Department Store implies that it is the first department store to open in Shanghai. And why not, for the place gives off that vibe of being an old-school, refined, luxury boutique where the high-society people of old Shanghai might have walked and shopped here. The building’s facade is old school and the entrance areas on ground floor is lined up with international, luxury brands. But walk pass all of that (which you can find luxury international brands at any upscaled department store), and go to ANOTHER AREA IN THE BACK. That’s where all the local Chinese cosmetics, jewelries, and fashion brands are. It’s a great walk to see what local beauty standards, blings, and luxury items are. Then you can even walk out to the side where they have set up an area with mini stalls selling local snacks and drinks. It adds to that old-Shanghai vibe of shopping in department store’s luxury and walking around sampling local street food. Nice nostalgia trip.

It's so hard to find this place in google map. Finally found this place after getting lost, to try this viral shaokao in town. Find KFC and take the lift to 6th floor at the side. The queue was very long but the service was good. A must try if you love Chinese shaokao when you visit Shanghai.
Ridone K — Google review
There's a bawangchaji (霸王茶姬) in this mall on Nanjing Road. Enter from the adidas to find 霸王茶姬. I am dying to do a review for 霸王茶姬 because they have some of the best boba tea. I drank a cup everyday when I was in Shanghai. They premium Chinese tea, e.g., Longjing, Da hong pao, tieguanyin, pu'er, which when served with milk and a small amount of sugar, is an exceptional cup of milk tea. These are extremely premium Chinese teas that I would not have thought could be made into boba tea. 霸王茶姬 did it. The tea was smooth with milk added. The tea was still fragrant and I could still taste the tea. My preference is boba tea without boba, 50% sugar, cold with ice removed. I tried every tea type on their menu. Every one is unique. They're a big chain store that's all over China. If I return to Shanghai/China, I would drink this everyday.

This is one of the best places to get your share of Shanghainese snacks. This "department store" offers snacks of all preference, from sweet to savoury, sour to spicy and even caters for diabetics in the non-sugary sections. Simply grab a bowl, pick your items and they will be promptly weighed. Prices here are lower than what you would pay for food in the rest of Nanjing rd.

Shanghai Old Street, also known as Chenghuangmiao Old Street, is a bustling hub in the Huangpu District featuring ancient pagoda-style architecture and a variety of shops and attractions. It is easily accessible by metro or bus, making it a must-visit destination for experiencing the kingdom of snacks in Shanghai. Located near Yuyuan Garden, this area offers a glimpse into the city's past with its mix of authentic old buildings and reconstructed ones.
Shanghai Old Street is a charming glimpse into the city’s rich past, blending traditional Chinese architecture with modern shops and eateries. Walking through the narrow alleys, you’ll find historic buildings, red lanterns, and quaint tea houses that reflect old-world Shanghai. It’s a great place to try local snacks, buy souvenirs, or simply soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Despite being touristy, the street retains an authentic charm, especially early in the morning or at dusk. If you’re interested in culture, history, and street photography, Shanghai Old Street is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared for crowds during peak hours.

A place to visit to see all sorts of shops and get a taste of certain Chinese culture as well. There are interesting cafeterias and other places of interesting food too. This place is at walking distance from the Yu garden. So you can plan to visit both at the same time if you are pressed for time.
Vijay J — Google review
Shanghai Old Street is a must-visit spot if you want to experience the charm of old Shanghai blended with the city’s modern vibrance. Walking down the street feels like stepping back in time, with beautifully preserved traditional architecture, intricate wooden facades, curved rooflines, and vibrant red lanterns hanging above the narrow lanes. The atmosphere is lively yet not overwhelming, with a mix of souvenir shops, tea houses, snack stalls, and small restaurants offering both local and regional delicacies. Street food lovers will find plenty to try — from freshly made dumplings and steamed buns to candied fruits and savory pancakes. Many vendors are friendly and happy to explain what they are selling, even if there’s a slight language barrier. What I really enjoyed was the balance between tourist attractions and authentic local culture. While there are souvenir shops, you’ll also find local craftsmen making traditional items, calligraphy pieces, and beautiful silk products. Prices can vary — some are quite reasonable, but for higher-end souvenirs, be ready to bargain politely. The street is well-maintained and clean, with signs in both Chinese and English, making it easy for visitors to explore. It’s also a fantastic place for photography — the contrast of old-style buildings against the backdrop of modern Shanghai skyscrapers is truly striking. I recommend visiting in the late afternoon so you can enjoy the atmosphere during daylight and stay until evening when the lanterns light up, giving the street a magical glow. Overall, Shanghai Old Street offers a perfect combination of history, culture, shopping, and food. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a foodie, or just someone looking for a pleasant stroll in a charming setting, this place will not disappoint.

Old style street in Shanghai. Unfortunately a lot of buildings have been demolished, or evicted for renovations. The beautiful gates still remind of the past. Almost no old residents could be found on the streets, but a few old shops were still operating. I'm curious how the area will be developed!

A rare spot of calm in busy Shanghai...I purchased a beautiful piece of nankeen chrysanthemum white/indigo fabric here, weight a little lighter than denim but very sturdy. I made a skirt out of it, which constantly receives compliments, making it one of my very favorite garments to wear. The fabric has sentimental value for me, as well, since it reminds me of my Shanghai trip every time I look at it in my closet. It is easy to get cheap Chinese fabric, but this fabric is high-quality and handmade. I feel the presence of the maker every time I wear it.

Outlet mall near the airport. We stayed here for a few hours, had dinner at Xin Wang, then headed to the airport. Shops had discounts but a lot of models we were looking for were not available (shoes), and some discounts had conditions (min amount, etc). The mall itself was nice. Several restaurants and cafes, many benches too.

Great place for walk around and shop if you have many hours before your next flight. Extreme discounts! We chose one pair of shoes from a Nike store, they were around 800 yuan, and they suggested us to buy a bag also to get the discount. Bag price was at 250 yuan. We were expecting to pay around 1000 yuan. Final price was at 600 yuan! Not crowded and available smoking points next to benches.

Not a bad place to shop. Seriously was better and bigger than I expected. Spent the whole morning there before heading to the airport. Was able to get onto the free shuttle bus a stop before the Pudong airport. Lugged my luggage to the premium outlets and there was this customer service where you can deposit your luggage for free! The Nike and Adidas store here was really crazy and filled with people. The only thing I didn't do was to explore the upper floor as it looked rather empty. Also was in a bit of a rush to get to the airport didn't get a chance to try out the eateries here. The bus to and fro the metro station is pretty frequent probably max waiting time is about 10 minutes. Worth a detour before heading to the airport.

No real bargains to find here. Everything feels hiked! This is supposed to be an outlet I thought ?? You have to buy 3 things in most places to get at least 30% off. And that includes adidas puma Nike new balance.. wouldn’t waste your time :)

Xingguang Photographic Equipment City is a paradise for photography enthusiasts, featuring two multi-story buildings filled with an extensive array of cameras, lenses, and other photography gear. Whether you're in search of the latest DSLRs or vintage models like the original Seagulls from Shanghai, this market is likely to have what you need. Bargaining is essential here, as prices are negotiable and it's advisable to be familiar with local pricing.
it’s photographers and videographers heaven! you will find everything you can imagine under on roof from cameras, lights, accessories new and second hand and even fixing and services stores. 2 roofs basically because it’s 2 buildings not just one. but take care, it’s closes at 07 PM sharp! i have to add, very friendly people and staff.
Karim K — Google review
Must visit if you are looking for anything related to cameras and photography equipment. You'll get almost anything you need as a photographer, for studio equipment, photographic film or just batteries. Needs a short walk from the subway but can easily be found.
S S — Google review
A big shopping mall dedicated to photography with lots of small shops selling all kind of cameras and equipment. It suffered a little bit during the pandemic with some shops looking deserted. Be aware that you have to negotiate otherwise you will get ripped off. My recommendation is actually the top floor where you can get your pictures printed at large scale and framed for a fair price and very good quality! Even if you don’t buy anything it’s fun to visit and explore.
Mugi Y — Google review
I like this place. I visited many times and purchased nearly each time something. It has a wealth of offers in particular for vintage camera gear. The stores are of different quality and price class. Expect to pay the price, no great bargains to be made. But I also never got cheated.
Guido H — Google review
Best place to buy a camera in Shanghai. Not the cheapest place, but can find any camera or related products in this place. Many shops does not speak english.
Dimuth J — Google review
Good selection and prices are not too bad but you MUST know local pricing and be willing to negotiate heavily to get the best deal. Best to bargain in cash and be willing to walk away and try another store. Ask for fao-piao on lenses and gear you might have to warranty. Warranties are good in China only so be aware of that. For filters, bags, etc. this is the best bet in town. Used items on upper floors, each level has its own specialty, 1 floor for lighting and 1 for just accessories. The ground floor vendors know more English. There are ATMs at the facility, near the bathrooms. Best parking is next door at Centry Mart/DIY house wares store. Must be on the west bound lane to access parking and there is usually a traffic jam there. 7-10 min walk from Line 4 subway platform so easy access.
John L — Google review
Buyers beware! Been here a few times and twice subject to scam. The first time, I bought a "SanDisk" MIcroSD card at the ground floor shop right next to the entrance (left hand side when you enter). Foolishly didn't test the card in the shop and ended up with a 32 MEGABYTE (No joke!!) card inside a package which read 32 GB. The 2nd time, years later, I used my credit card to pay for 35mm film rolls in a shop a couple of floors up and like magic the 450 CNY charge (approx. 55 EUR) turned into a 270 EUR charge on my credit card. I'm more experienced these days and my general advice is when in China, you should never ever use your credit card (even big name hotel chains can be sketchy) and always assume everyone is trying to rip you off (sad as that may sound), always be on your guard.
Johnny M — Google review
Pretty cheap stuff if you are from the EU. To get the best price, you should look for real brand cameras and equipment. They are usually cheaper. But you MUST haggle and bargain and you must also be ready to walk away and look for another shop in the house.

Shanghai Yuyuan Market, also known as Yuyuan Bazaar, is a bustling bazaar located in the Old Street (Chenghuangmiao) area. With around 200,000 daily visitors, it's a popular spot for shopping and dining. The market offers a diverse range of products such as chopsticks, Chinese medicine, fans, silk umbrellas, bamboo furniture, pottery and more.
Absolutely stunning place! It's so beautiful, with nice little shops, places to eat street food and gold shops.
Dessi — Google review
Yuyuan Bazaar, also known as Yuyuan Shangcheng, is situated outside the Yu Garden (also a stone throw to Chenghuang Temple), in the heart of old Shanghai city. There are many traditional Chinese buildings, which nowadays are used as commercial and retailing stores to sell local souvenirs, foods, products, snacks, jewelry and antiques etc. In the bazaar, there are a great number of small lanes filled with stores. Yuyuan old street, in the north of Yuyuan Bazaae, mainly offers various commodities with traditional Chinese characteristics. These products include home supplies, handicrafts, and festive supplies. In addition, Yuyuan fashion street totally differs from the Old Street. Daily supplies, modern handicrafts, snack food and coffee beverages are mainly offered here. Moreover, the gold and jewelry industry is very prosperous in this area, so visitors can also buy golden earrings, necklaces or rings in many of the goldsmith shops. On the day of our visit, it was weekend and so you can bet the area was packed with visitors and moving around was quite a challenge. Although it's touristy, it was still a great eye-opening experience for us to have a feel of the local culture and lifestyle!

Extremely touristy but the whole area is a must visit if you're in Shanghai. Everything looks pretty much as you'd expect old Shanghai to look and so it's a fantastic area for exploring and taking photos. There's lots of little shops, market stalls, tea and coffee shops and souvenir stores here so no matter what you're looking for you're likely covered. There's even a robot that serves you ice cream! All in all it's definitely a fun visit for an hour or two.

One of the many densely packed shopping malls typical to all of China's major cities. A building filled with tiny treasures and small businesses of a few square meters each. Shanghai Confucian Temple (South Gate) is a serene escape from the bustling city, offering a peaceful retreat in its landscaped gardens. The temple hosts a popular second-hand book market every Sunday, where visitors can browse through an array of books ranging from traditional thread binding books to contemporary Kung Fu novels. Additionally, the temple features a charming tea house that offers an opportunity to sample various teas, including exclusive Confucian teas.
When I went there, some renovation was going on, so I could not go inside. But from outside what so ever I could see... this is one of the most beautiful temple... I missed it... will cover in my next visit...
Udayan C — Google review
Unlike northern counterparts, this temple's gray bricks absorb humidity, preventing mildew in Shanghai's damp climate. The ceremonial yueqin (moon guitar) in the music pavilion stays in tune despite temperature swings—its silk strings were woven with nanofiber coatings. Students still rub the stone kui statue's forehead before exams, polishing the granite to a mirror shine over centuries.
Arman K — Google review
A nice surprise in the middle of older neighborhood - hosts a used book market on Sundays. We went to see the used book market and ended up with two enjoyable parts in one visit. We took the metro and walked to the temple following the phone map app, which took us through the older surrounding neighborhood. Everyone was friendly and one lady helped point us around the corner to the southern gate entrance. I've added pics of the neighborhood. If you want the full access then pay 10RMB, otherwise you can just go to the book market inside the inner courtyard. 10RMB lets you go into the temple as well as the other courtyards. If you go early for the book market (0730-1500) then you pretty much have the other areas to yourself. Go towards the temple and the guards will ask for your tickets. Most people think they cannot go up, but that us what your ticket paid for. PROs - Well maintained and off the main tourist route yet still easy to get to. - Super cheap - Friendly helpful guards - beautiful artwork in back courtyards - Used book market on Sunday mornings until 3pm. Great finds and deals to be made. CONs - Can be a little intimidating with a guard standing before the steps into the temple, but he's just there to make sure the market crowd doesn't spread out. - Map apps can take you to other gates that are not open. Go to the southern gate on Wenmiao. Enjoy both the market and the temple as a slice of Chinese culture!
