Restaurant
Confeitaria Colombo is a historic café-restaurant located in downtown Rio, offering a glimpse into the city's 'golden age.' The elegant setting features ornate chandeliers and jacaranda wood mirrors, creating an opulent atmosphere for breakfasts, brunches, and afternoon teas. This century-old establishment was once the center of social gatherings and political intrigue during Rio's belle epoque era.
Enjoyed a nice break on a rainy day. Waited 20 minutes to get in. Shared a ham and cheese sandwich so that we could order dessert!! Too full to finish desserts. Beautiful place!
Randy E — Google review
Given the location, it is undoubtedly amazing but the service was disappointing. I understand that maybe because it was a Sunday afternoon, probably a long day however you can tell the unwillingness to work —The food, small portion and nothing special. If you are looking for a place to post on social media, this is perfect for you but if you want a real food/cafe there are bunch of them around way better than this tourist trap
Paolo B — Google review
Very beautiful place, it reeks history, but very full and loud, it doesn't let you enjoy the meal! I recommend you to order only the pastry if not you will wait a lot! The food is 7/10 and desserts 10/10 (the flan is really creamy and delicious)
Juan G — Google review
We chose the restaurant thanks to recommendations, but it was an extremely bad experience for us. Terrible attitude of the staff, catastrophic conditions of seating comfort, broken chairs, a lot of noise, a mess on the floor. Despite repeated requests to clean the table, we had to clean it ourselves. We spent almost an hour of our vacation here waiting for a table. Despite the name order of the guests, the staff let other guests who had passed us in, the staff told us curtly that they had a reservation. We did not see any information about reservations on the tables. They all passed us in several times, despite the fact that we had a reservation card. Very worried, we got up and left, preferring not to ruin our vacation. We do not recommend a visit, it has nothing to do with a gastronomic, relaxing and relaxing experience. Disappointing waste of time.
Peter B — Google review
Overhyped. Looking deeper into what it offers beyond the appearances, it’s nothing worth visiting again in my opinion. Yes, waiters wearing a tie, and the long queue might make you think it will be a special experience for the prices you’ll be charged. Unfortunately not, food is just average, waiters don’t speak much else other than Portuguese, with no awareness of when to serve what’s being ordered. They will deliver the food as soon as it’s ready. So we got the coffee and eclair served before the main dishes. I don’t who eats in this way but that’s what happens if you order everything at the same time in this place. The worst part is that the food is not even freshly prepared. For example, the beirut pita sandwich with fillet mignon, eggs and salad is reheated. The result is a bland and soggy sandwich…disappointing. The eclair was not fresh either. The only things we found to be good were the carpaccio and the coffee. Before paying they’ll parade a basket full of sweets and chocolate in the hope they’ll get you to buy more stuff And when you’re finally about to step out, you’ll be asked for 60r$ for a printed photograph..yeah, that trick they pull off at the beginning once you got past the queue. I don’t know what makes them think this is what makes clients enjoy their time in this place.
Alexandru I — Google review
Highly overrated, but worth it if you intend to go for the atmosphere. The food was not good. Looking around, my guess is that it’s best to just get a coffee and shake or a dessert.

A Glorious Stop in Rio Visiting Confeitaria Colombo was an absolute highlight of our trip to Rio. The architecture is stunning—stepping inside feels like entering a glamorous time capsule. We treated ourselves to coffee, pastries, and some very necessary photo ops under the grand mirrors and stained glass ceiling. Everything was delicious, and the service was kind and attentive. Whether you’re into history, sweets, or just soaking up beauty, this spot is 100% worth it.

Talho Capixaba in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, is a charming bakery and deli with a rich Portuguese heritage. Originally a butcher shop, it has transformed into a celebrated delicatessen. The venue offers a cozy setting for breakfast or brunch, featuring artisanal breads, homemade pastries, and an array of imported French products such as pate and sweet jams. Guests can also indulge in a variety of cheeses and mouthwatering cakes made with natural ingredients.
Usually pretty busy. Have to keep an eye out for a table. Only outdoor seating is available. Great melted cheese and ham sandwich on a croissant and fresh orange juice.
Julia S — Google review
The food was great, the bread and pastries are amazingly baked. The fruit salad was not that good, most of the fruits were not ripe enough. The coffee was delicious. The ambience was super busy and there was loud live music as well so don’t expect being able to hold a conversation while sitting outside.
Dániel P — Google review
After a coffee craving, we fell upon this lovely place. More than just coffee they have great desserts and pastry. We tried the pastel de nata and a chicken and cheese pastry. All three delicious accompaniments to our double espressos.
S S — Google review
A beautiful bakery-cafe and a delicacy store where you can find great Brazilian delicacies. You can have a nice brunch here on the vibrant and tree lined Av Ataulfo de Paiva in the heart of the upscale area of Rio, Leblon. The food is tasty and well presented . Sit at a table outside on the pavement to get one with the energy of the heart of Leblon. But don't forget to go inside and spend some time to see the delicacies and maybe buy something to bring back home.
Marios T — Google review
We had a delecious breakfast here yesterday. Both Alex and Lawanda are top-notch servers. They are pleasant and were quick to bring our food. We really like the vibe here as it is great for people watching. This is the 3rd summer (it is winter for Rio) in a row that we have stayed in Leblon, and we always always dine here, shop for fresh meats, cheeses, and other last-minute groceries. Thank you, Talho Capixaba!
Nora B — Google review
Average regular bakery with a good variety of bread, but subpar quality overall. It’s outside seating is a mess and poorly managed. If you’re looking for “café da manhã” experience just go next door for a good old style padaria.

Trendy bakery with a good selection of savory and sweet plates, charcuterie and more.

The Slow Bakery is a renowned artisanal bakery in Rio de Janeiro, offering a variety of sourdough breads, grilled cheese sandwiches, sweet treats, and cold brew coffee. The original location in Botafogo has expanded to include a new shop in Ipanema that focuses solely on selling natural-yeast bread. This expansion aligns with the bakery's commitment to the slow-food ethos.
Wonderful little bakery an easy and safe walk from the local train station. Firstly the inviting smell once inside and friendly service, including English friendly. I had the croque and it was sensational, is this the best I've had 🤔 I'd say a resounding yes! The sourness if the bread is spot on, the ham is the right kind without the strong flavour and paired with the right amount of cheese. The coffee is quite good as well, good standard flavour from Brazilian coffee.

I wanted to go to a nice cafe in São Paulo and here I found :) Their pao de quejio & pulled pork sandwich was so delicious! I love the ambient of this cafe very much, spacious, high ceiling and lots of greens. I’d def come back next time I visit São Paulo!
Y G — Google review
Amazing bakery. We went here multiple times while in Rio and every time it was great. All the dishes we tried were amazing and their bread and pastries were great. This is by far the best bakery in Rio and a level above the rest. Their croissants are good, the BLT was really nice with thick cut bacon and the coffee is great. This bakery would hold it’s own even in cities like London and Melbourne. I highly recommend
Sam A — Google review
Wide selection of yummy baked goods! Recommend Went in a Sunday for brunch. Immediately brought inside to a waiting area and then seated at a table for 3 in about 5 minutes. Ordered Eggs Benedict (served on great brioche), Croque Madame (decent, not the absolute best I’ve had), PBJ served on sourdough and toasted (probably the best) and a cold brew, and Vietnamese coffee (too sweet, coffee not bitter enough). Service was efficient, staff spoke enough English to communicate. Prices are reasonable by US standards ($30 for everything, about 200 reals) Would recommend for brunch!
Richard K — Google review
Even tho the quality of the bread is good, the pricing is ridiculous. We went to buy focaccia and they gave us a 2 (!) DAYS OLD piece for 28 reais, while in other places the fresh one is cheaper, or 50% for the yesterday batch. Very unexpected and disappointing
Daria — Google review
Definitely a must to try this when in Rio. This place is very passionate about what they do and you can not only taste it, but also feel it. My favorite was the french toast. Ate it too many times

Casa do Pão de Queijo is situated in the lobby of Santos Dumont Airport and offers excellent service. Visitors can enjoy delicious snacks, with the Minas Gerais hot cheese sandwich being a standout option. While some may find the cheese bread to be less remarkable, the overall experience at this establishment is highly praised.
(Translated by Google) I went to Casa do Pão de Queijo located in the lobby of Santos Dumont Airport. The service was very good. (Translated by Google) Terrible service. Rude cashier with no patience with customers. Azul pays a 25 reais fee to customers they harm in this Thursday coffee shop just to make us feel even more disrespected. The attendant gets upset if you choose anything on the menu that is not the exact price. It's hard to put it into the system and it's your fault. The manager doesn't exist, she avoids dealing with the customer... she says she'll get there but never does, hoping you'll miss your flight. Don't fall for this! Go to Starbucks! More options, better service and EMPATHY. The franchise will cry for keeping a store like this at the airport.

this experience at this place has by far been the WORST SERVICE I’ve ever experienced. My husband and i ordered food using an English menu list. We waited for a long time before I had to signal a waiter (a young man) to take our paper with our orders marked on it. In hindsight, maybe this would have been a warning sign already. We initially received one water bottle when I clearly wrote two on the order. And then… we waited for 45 minutes and there was still no sign of our order. And no one came to check??? I was staring at the waiters and waitresses at the 30min mark, but no one even bothered to come by. We noticed a few people coming and leaving after being notified something about the kitchen. Then my husband went to ask the staff and they told us we only ordered water. This is impossible: 1. How can they miss ALL of the other food items we ordered but just managed to see the drinks on the same piece of paper?! 2. If there are some items are not available to order, why did NO ONE notify us after we placed our order??! 3. 45 MINUTES. We waited for 45 minutes until we had to ask ourselves about our order because no one bothered to ask why we were sitting there with our drinks for so long. Super slow service. And after all of that, in order to placate us, they said our drinks were for free (two bottles of 300ml of water). Wow, what a big consolation that was. I have never even been so angry and upset at an experience and i consider myself a calm person. Ruined my whole day. Visit was on 3rd March 2025 at around 3pm. First and LAST visit. Will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Found this place while walking around the Lagoa area and we loved the sandwiches here! They have gotten several awards and certifications for their food and it definitely lived up to expectations. It was packed around 2pm tho and our table arrangement for 4 people was a bit weird.

Not recommended. One menu pice of paper for everyone is a horrible idea, the waitress and all service disorganized, poor and bad food presentation.
Josías L — Google review
Really enjoyed our brunch here. I think because we didn’t speak Portuguese, we didn’t get our full order and had to keep asking. Other than that, it was an overall good experience.

Amazing food options for everyone who eats meat to vegan. We ordered couvert and bruschetta was delicious with varied breads and the dippings. In the main course we ordered quiche with goat cheese and quinoa with cashews and pesto de salsa. The staff is very polite and quick in service. The cheese bread with gruyere cheese is to die for. Must visit place also they have received best breakfast awards for 2 years consecutively. Waiting to go there for breakfast.

Restaurant
Ceviche RJ is a Peruvian-run restaurant in Rio known for serving some of the best ceviche in the area. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, providing a relaxed dining experience. Guests have praised the simplicity of the menu, which focuses on classic ceviche and other authentic Peruvian dishes. Diners have enjoyed generous portions of ceviche, complemented by sides like sweet potatoes.

An incredible experience. The food was delicious and had generous portions. The service was great and it was nice to not have to wait long to be seated. I would love to go again and try more of their menue
Addie O — Google review
We ordered the trio marino with fried fish, and it was good. We really enjoyed the laid-back vibe and the staff’s friendly attitude. Room for improvement: When we arrived, there was a mix of strong smells—trash (bins are right next to the tables), fish, cleaning chemicals, and smog (since the restaurant is right on a busy street). I’m sure the experience could improve significantly if at least some of these odors were minimized—even if the smog is out of their control.
Moshé S — Google review
Great food here. I and the classic ceviche and also the lomo salteado both were delicious.
Patrick D — Google review
Best Peruvian food in town! If you’re tired of tourist-trap restaurants at capacabana, you may want to take an Uber just a few bucks because the food and price are pretty fair. The service was fast and friendly. I definitely would go back.
Bong M — Google review
Fresh seafood based dishes! The ceviche and the octopus dish we had were excellent. Nice atmosphere on a lively street with good outdoor seating. The main waiter was a little nonchalant and you will not have much luck in communicating in anything but Portuguese. But the food and vibe are worth it!
Nathalie K — Google review
Very tasty and generous portion of ceviche! the sweetness from the sweet potatoes added a good balance to it. I’d come again for the ceviche. Also impressed with TACU TACU, the meat was cooked right (stir fried) and the rice in the form mixed with beans then lightly fried was something I never tasted before. Full of flavors. Small disappointment that the octopus wasn’t available.

Cultivar, located in the heart of Santa Teresa, is a hidden gem for those seeking organic and gluten-free options. The café offers a variety of wholemeal tarts, sandwiches, and cakes made with natural ingredients. Visitors can also purchase pastas, biscuits, and other goodies to take away from the mini-store. Cultivar is known for serving delicious Pao de Queijo made with organic ingredients.
This is a tiny cafe that feels quite authentic. They specialise in pao de queijo, açai and tapioca, and sell some other packaged products and drinks. The pao de queijo is really delicious and affordable (4 for 6 reals), and the açai can be unsweetened - something pretty hard to find.

We stopped by Cultivar for their handmade açaí and cheese bread, and everything was delicious. It’s a cozy local spot with a steady stream of regulars, which says a lot. Great flavors and a really welcoming vibe!

This place is a hidden gem just in the heart of the most beautiful area of Rio, Santa Teresa. Delicious and abundant açai, served with granola, and amazing pao de quejo. Ladies are very kind and prices very fair!

Nothing fancy, but the cheese bread is good. There are only few seats in the store, so dine-in option depends on luck.

I recently visited Cultivar Shop in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio and was absolutely delighted by the experience. The pie and açai bowl I had there were the best I've ever tasted – fresh, flavorful, and simply unforgettable. What sets this place apart is its commitment to organic produce, ensuring every bite is as wholesome as it is delicious. The staff at the shop were incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of what they offer. If you find yourself in Rio, especially in Santa Teresa, Cultivar Shop is a must-visit. You won't be disappointed!

Best pão de queijo (cheese bread), açaí and mate (Brazilian cold tea). I always stop her to get exactly these 3 items. They are the best in the region and totally inexpensive. Nice place to chill a little from all the Santa Teresa walking and eat these delicious Brazilian food. If you're in Rio, I'm a local guide here. Feel free to get in touch with me through any social media: @DEBOMZAI

Amazing fresh french bread every 30 minutes until 11am then every hour. Coffee was AMAZING. Apple 🍎 Carrot 🥕 cake was so delicious ❤️ Our server was good, but didn't care in explaing all the great items that this bakery has, and she said that we had to pay everything that we want from the front of the bakery in the cashier first then bring to the table, so that was a back and forth BUT we did like the service from Tatiane wich is not our server, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS WAITING FOR TO MAKE HER A SERVER??? She was patient and lovely, 5 Stars 🌟

Ignored on entrance. Ignored when I sat down. Looked at directly by waitress twice, continued to be Ignored. Lady sat down after me, given a menu straight away. I had to ask for a menu. When I was ready to order... Ignored again. Left. Very disappointing.

This is the perfect breakfast spot. Consistently the best coffee I've found in Rio (outside the handful of actual specialty places). My favourite pão de queijo. Delicious baguettes for a fair price. These amazing lemon tarts. And amazing, quick service - Thanks to Wander especially.

(Translated by Google) I can't describe the quality of the food and service. My boyfriend and I used to walk by it all the time but had never gone in because we thought it only sold cheese bread. One day, we decided to go in to see what it was like inside... and I'm so glad we did! The menu, until a few weeks ago, was something along the lines of a very simple brunch/breakfast menu, but of undeniable quality! The first thing we tried was a slice of pizza, and it was love at first sight! Then we went for breakfast with the grilled bread, egg, cheese, and juice... everything was so delicious! And they make everything themselves! The bread is made in-house, and you can really taste the difference, just like the 100% handmade pizza! Everything is simple and beautifully made with quality ingredients. Finally, about two weeks ago, there was a lasagna dish in the window. I asked about its availability throughout the week and went back today to try it with my boyfriend... we're wondering how we hadn't tried this before?? Thinking about how to shout about the cheese bread factory to the world, hahaha. Anyway, we tried the short rib lasagna and the four-cheese lasagna, both DIVINE! Last but not least, the service is always impeccable! Everyone is very attentive, knows how to talk about the products they sell, and speaks with great affection! I wish more people discovered the cheese bread factory!

The Bakers is a renowned New York-style deli located in Rio de Janeiro, known for its delectable pastries and event catering services. The establishment is famous for its assortment of pies, including the popular NY Cronut and donuts with various fillings and toppings. Run by the well-known Deichmann-Geller family, The Bakers offers a wide range of options from breakfast items like pao de queijo to more formal brunch dishes such as flavorful egg dishes and fresh fruit.
I had the supreme sandwich on ciabatta and it came with a salad. The sandwich was good, but it definitely needed the apricot spread or it would've been too dry. There's a bakery in the front of the restaurant with lots of yummy looking food, as well as prepacked items. The restaurant has a full menu, and you seat yourself.

The Baker is a charming neighborhood spot in the Copacabana area , just a short walk from most major hotels. It has this cool city café vibe, like a mix between an Italian bakery and a New York-style café, with great food to match. I liked it so much I ended up coming here every morning for breakfast during my stay in Rio. Their café lattes were consistently excellent, and their pizzas are definitely worth trying too. It’s a cozy, casual place with quality food and a great local feel. A solid choice if you’re staying in Copacabana!

The Bakers is one of my favorite spots in Rio when I’m craving something sweet. Their pastries and cakes are always fresh, beautifully made, and absolutely delicious. Whether you want just a slice or a whole cake to take home, they have plenty of tempting options. They also offer a nice selection of sandwiches if you’re in the mood for something savory. The atmosphere is lively, bright, and welcoming, with décor that feels both elegant and cheerful. It’s the perfect place to stop for a treat, relax with a coffee, or pick up something special to bring home. A lovely eatery with consistently great quality. Highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Found this gem during a 10-minute walk from the JW Marriott on Copacabana. The Bakers has a dual concept - a bakery section up front and a sit-down pizzeria area where we decided to have lunch. Surprisingly, we all opted for filet steaks instead of pizza. I ordered mine with a fruit sauce and risotto, which was the day's special - absolutely delicious! The boys got fries and steaks as well, though they were a bit disappointed with the hot chocolate, which turned out to be actual melted chocolate rather than the powdered mix with milk they were expecting. Despite our complete lack of Portuguese (we basically just said "obrigado" constantly - the magic word!), the service was decent. The interior was cozy though a bit warm inside, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. The pricing was excellent for the quality, making this a real value find. If you're staying in Copacabana and feel like stretching your legs for a short walk away from the beachfront, this is a wonderful spot to pop in for either a quick pastry or a full meal. Just don't expect American-style hot chocolate if that's what you're craving!

A "must" for coffee lovers! Unfortunately it is one of the few places of this kind from Rio. The guys were very friendly, giving relevant information about the products. A great approach. There is the possibility to have several types of coffee that they sell in the form of espresso or latte. Tasting of different types of coffee is also possible. You can even brew your own coffee. You can pay for the coffee as much as you think it is worth it. Pay by yourself using card. A truely unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

The owner of the place and the personnel was so friendly that we visited this cafe two times in our stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had the opportunity to have a chat and felt like we already knew each other. Leo helps you try preparing your own coffee if you like, it was quite an experience. Nestled in the serene Botanical Garden neighborhood, La Bicyclette is a delightful French bakery and bistro that transports you straight to Paris. This charming spot, founded by Henri Forcellino and his Brazilian wife Ana Paula Gentil, began as a humble home-based venture delivering freshly baked goods by bicycle. Today, it has blossomed into two locations where visitors can indulge in artisanal breads, flaky croissants, and delectable pastries like pain au chocolat.
Always tasty meals, fresh breads, and good pour-over coffee. The pastries as exceptional! I love the lassi drink with mango and mint & the pain au chocolate. Highly recommend having a sandwich on a baguette, or salad (good size), or the croissant stuffed with strawberries and nutella. Since 2017 this has been my favorite cafe in Rio. I always feel welcome and peaceful at La Bicyclette. 🚲🥖🥐☕ Enjoy your visit too!

We went for a brunch. The place was very cosy both inside and outside. However, my girlfriend and I were truly disappointed with the service attitude. My girlfriend wanted to order a breakfast menu which included a natural juice. She asked if she could mix two fruits for the juice and said that she would even pay the price difference. Ten service however was extremely inflexible and ruled out such possibility. Zero customer-centric! Moreover, service brought a fried egg instead of a scrambled one. The fried eggs were initially too soft (a significant part of the eggwhite was still liquid). Also as I was about to finish with one of my plates the waitress asked if she could remove the plate; yet, before having answered that I wasn’t done yet she removed it. Food-wise it was good. The waffles were excellent, so were the juices. The avocado toasts were extremely difficult to eat and overall a bit bland in terms of flavour. The coffee was good.

It’s one of my go-to spots! The food is super tasty, always feels fresh, and I love that there are tons of vegetarian and vegan options. The staff is really friendly, which adds to the chill vibe. Service is usually quick, especially after the breakfast rush. It can get a little slow in the morning just because it gets packed. I really like sitting outside at the round tables when the weather’s nice. It’s relaxed and casual, and great for hanging out. Inside is nice too if you want something quieter. They’ve got lots of juices! For soda lovers, being your own coca-cola: they don’t serve soda. Parking can be hit or miss depending on the time, so I usually just Uber there to keep it simple.

Expectations were kind of high of this one and not fullfilled unfortunately. Recommended to have great coffee and great ambient, I was expecting speciality level - what I found was a decent bakery with some coffee options. To be fair, the bread really was good and the bowls around us looked great, too. Minus one star due to quite basic coffee. Ambient is nice next to the gardens, especially with their Veranda. Service was great.
Daniel W — Google review
They had a varied range of pastries and cakes, which looked scrumptious. After a quick browse we knew that we had to try some of these. We sat at one of the tables outside and were offered a QR code to see the menu in English. This place didn’t just do baked goods, it also offered a wide range of breakfast items and sandwiches. We stuck to ordering some cakes. Unfortunately the one I really wanted to try which was Apple, Walnut and Cinnamon was only available as a large cake. I had to change to something else and chose Orange and Almond cake. Something got lost in translation as I ended up with an Almond Croissant. I just went with it and it was nice. My husband ordered an apple tart and crostine. The crostine was twisted delicate filo pastry integrated with little bursts of chocolate. It was a much lighter alternative to a pain au chocolate. The apple tart was simply delightful. The firm yet soft slices apple sat in a perfect sticky glacé on a bed of solid yet almost biscuity base. It teamed well with the coffee he had ordered. Along with this I chose a Pink Lemonade. This was like having a fruity mojito without the alcohol. There were full pieces of raspberry and blackberry in it.

Nestled in the heart of the city's vibrant nightlife, Nova Capela Restaurant & Bar transports diners to a nostalgic Portuguese family home with its charming decor adorned with vintage photographs and images of saints. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for those seeking hearty portions of traditional cuisine. Guests rave about the broccoli rice topped with crispy fried garlic, which pairs beautifully with a variety of proteins like wild boar, young goat, cod, or octopus.
A friend from Rio took me out to this restaurant on my last night and it definitely didn't disappoint. Great ambience (although the one next table was very very noisy) and the air conditioning was for sure a plus. The service was quick and very friendly. We ordered the Oswaldo Aranha steak which came with rice and potatoes. It was really perfect and tasted so good. The quality of the meat was top. However, the portion was huge and would have easily filled 1-2 more people. The value for money was also right. I can heartily recommend the restaurant. I couldn't have imagined a better last dinner in Rio :-)

The best Brazillian food I had during my trip to Rio. Walked in and this place was packed with locals. It had a good charm about it. We were seated and ordered the cod fish ball which was delicious and the brazillian lamb with broccoli rice and potatoes - this dish was the highlight meal of our entire 10 day trip. The lamb is baked for 8-10 hrs and then deep fried to give it the perfect texture and bring out all the flavors that are balanced by the broccoli rice and garlic potatoes. We also tried their Colorado beer and it paired very well with the meal. Service was quick and if I would return to Brazil, i would definitely stop by here again without a doubt. Highly recommend this gem of a place.

Came here for lunch after walking the Escandaria de Selaron and it was very good. We shared the Fillet Mignon for two people between four, a salad and the Italian sausage and it was more than enough. We also got a side of jamón that was delicious for 75 reals. And had the best Portuguese tart I’ve ever had! Although my first in Brazil so possibly bias. We came around 12, it was just a couple tables occupied and when we left an hour later it was full

Definitely an overrated place. We wanted to eat something more local and classic in a place with tradition. Total disappointment. Our worst meal in Brazil. Dishes without any taste, overcooked vegetables and both fish tasteless. I like salmon and eat it often in various places around the world, but this was definitely the worst. It's a pity, because the service was really nice and we are sorry to write such a review.
Aleksander P — Google review
Food was not tasty and not suitably prepared. I've got the pork rib, a standard dish in the restaurant and in Brazil. It came fried as well as the potatoes that were served as a side dish. This was absolutely the wrong way to cook a good rib and it wasn't even tasty at all. Cannot recommend despite its long history and presumed quality.

Absolutely fantastic place. We ordered the Argentina bbq and the beef with madeira sauce. The madeira sauce was incredible, the beef was tender without a single bit of fat and my friend doesn't eat too much and ate all the meat in the Argentina bbq. Highly reccomend this place. Lastly, we do not speak Portuguese, but the staff are so kind, respectful and make a huge effort. If you are in the area then you should visit here!

Visited in June 2024. Brazil. Rio de Janeiro. Our tour guide on our food tour showed us this place and it was a total gem! It felt like a real local spot, not touristy at all. The interior is a little old and tired, but that adds to its charm. The waiters are in white suits, the portions are huge, it’s a real Brazilian restaurant with a history. Food: We went to this restaurant twice, and here are our favorites: the codfish croquettes - so crispy on the outside, with a thin crust and super tender and juicy on the inside. You could really taste the fish, the first time we had the croquettes they were seriously good. Then there was the grilled octopus with garlic – the best octopus I've ever had, and the best I've tried in Brazil. It was so soft and tender, with a crispy crust. Perfect balance of flavor and garlic. And their signature dish, the slow-cooked lamb roasted until crispy, with tender meat inside and a crispy crust, what could be better? Also, the rice with broccoli was phenomenal. Service: They have a menu in English, and some of the waiters speak English too, which made it super easy to navigate. The service was overall really good, the dishes came out quickly, and they cleared dirty plates right away. The waiters' uniforms were amazing. Overall: I highly recommend this restaurant. The decor might seem outdated, but it’s all part of the history. This restaurant has been serving guests for a long time. It was a real discovery for us.

Eat them with hot sauce - yum! My husband had the breakfast set with biscuits, cheesy omelette and homemade turkey sausage - also delicious! The food is like what you find in a diner in small town America. Feels nostalgic of the time I spent in Amherst, Massachusetts. I would definitely come again and perhaps try the pancakes 🥞!

Gringo Café is hands down one of the best breakfast spots in Rio! We visited twice, and both experiences were fantastic. On our first visit, I had the Farmhouse Breakfast, which was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We also tried the spicy buffalo chicken strips, which had just the right kick, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his grilled chicken club sandwich. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value. On our second visit, I opted for the sausage, egg, and cheese scramble, and once again, the quality and taste were top-notch. Whether you’re a local or visiting, Gringo Café is an absolute must-try. The food, atmosphere, and experience make it well worth any wait!

Best food, we’ve tried other spots and nothing tastes like home compared to this place. Lou is the best server of all time. They have incredible english and are honestly so kind we came here for breakfast 4 days out of the 5 in rio. Nothing better than here

This place is the best! The breakfast food is so good, my friends and I loved going here during our weeklong stay in Rio. Plenty of options and the drinks are very fresh and delicious as well. This is a better spot than some places in the United States! It’s super casual and a little limited on seating but during the times we went, it was not crowded and naturally we were into other Americans that were in town.

This place is a fantastic option for breakfast after a night out as they have bacon eggs, and french fries. This is a great place. You have never seen a place like this before so nice so American. Great people delicious food.

Great American style breakfast. The Texas Toast French Toast and special Ginger Iced Coffee they make for me are awesone!! I eat here a few times each week. Tchauzhino! 🇺🇲🇧🇷🤙🏽

The Brazilians try to recreate American 🇺🇸 food 🥘 dishes. Come early the place is small and always has a line. 15 minutes is normal wait time for a table. I was very pleased 😀 today. Breakfast all day people..,🤗

This cafe is great if you're looking for simple breakfasts that feel home cooked and are natural. I ordered the waffle, a strawberry blueberry smoothie and the body builder breakfast (egg whites, cured salmon, and fruit). It came out to $30USD so demerit recommend cooking at home if you can, but still if not, you can pay a bit more and have them prepare that feel good home cooked meal for you. Also the service is very nice, wifi, and small TV for games.

Apetite Café is a charming spot that captures the hearts of both locals and travelers with its inviting ambiance and scrumptious offerings. Renowned for its freshly baked goods, particularly the croissants, this café also serves an impressive breakfast spread that includes a delightful assortment of items like eggs, ham, cheese, and fresh fruit. The European-inspired vibe combined with cozy outdoor seating creates an ideal setting for leisurely meals.
WOWWWWW I will dream about this meal forever & always. We showed up for a late breakfast and had to wait a bit for a table for 4 (like 20 min). It was so worth it! The complete breakfast was more than complete - it had a bread basket, fresh papaya, eggs, ham, cheese, and jam, along with coffee. We splurged and got some cake, too. Highly recommend. Wish I had gotten a chocolate croissant because they looked SO good but I was so full after eating that I couldn’t even look at any food for a few hours. It’s got a cute set-up tucked into a neighborhood and yet still super close to the beaches. Beautiful plants all over the street make it a delicious tropical oasis in the middle of the city. Seriously, 5 stars!!!

Very good place for breakfast! Their breakfast for two people actually serves up to four if you add extra juices/coffee. Keep in mind that it gets very busy, specially on weekends so try to arrive early, service can be a bit slow if it’s too crowded but it’s worth the wait!

Good portion sized omelettes, fresh fruit and lots of filling pastries to choose from! It’s not an incredibly fancy place to grab breakfast, but it gets the job done and the prices are affordable. Staff was kind and there’s not of space to sit outside and observe the sights and sounds of Rio while you munch!

Over the course of 2 weeks we went to Apetite Cafe 10 times. It’s great for breakfast or lunch. Everything is good and fresh and the ambiance feels very European! We don’t speak Portuguese and none of their staff spoke English but some Google translate and pointing at the menu did the trick. For a family of 5 this was an affordable option that did not disappoint. The baked goods and coffee are amazing! Best croissant ever.

If you want to have a decent breakfast experience in a local cafe, I defiantly don’t recommend this place. I ordered tapioca filled with eggs and I received almost empty tapioca, having just one lonely egg in the center. When I complained, waiter told me that on menu it shows “eggs” on singular, so of course it is just one. In a good café you expect a good experience without paying attention on those details. Waiter should have told me this. Instead of it she was very rude.

Good cappuccino for an affordable price. I was happy to get a real coffee and not some sweet flavoured powder as in other coffee shops in Brazil

I go here every time I’m in Rio for the best breakfast. High quality food at good value. Went yesterday, not been for 5 years, and the waitress remembered me! No, I don’t have two heads. Well worth a visit. 10/10 Here again, a year later! Everything exactly the same- delicious as always. Back in Rio. First morning and breakfast had to be at Apetite. Fresh hot croissant, coffee and tapioca com queijo. Delicious. Aline (waitress) recognised us and gave us a hug- just like old friends. You cant get better service anywhere. If in Copacabana area you must go here for breakfast.

Farro, a popular spot that opened its doors in 2019, has quickly become a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. The lunch buffet offers an array of options including salads, meats, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Known for serving the best sourdough bread in town and an assortment of delectable pastries such as brigadeiros and pistachio cakes, Farro is a great choice for brunch without the long wait.
It's ok if I don't have words!? What's this, people!!? We were so confused about which one choose; there's so many options and after thinking a lot about it, we've choose, I believe: The best ones!! The attention is amazing, the environment is really cozy and about the desserts; really, no words. You definitely should come and try by yourself tho. Prepare your stomach and heart for this 👏🏽🙂‍↔️❤️‍🔥

I’ve breakfast spot great juices and coffee, poached egg and avocado on croissant. Dry nice, egg Benedict a bit heavy on the vinegar. But very good overall

If you’re Black, I wouldn’t recommend going there. The staff and customers were extremely rude and made me feel very uncomfortable with the way they stared. They even told me the buffet was closing while I was still serving myself — the same thing happened to my friends. Overall, terrible customer service. I’m a foreigner and this is my first time experiencing this in Brazil , the pastries looked great but I didn’t even want to order due to the uncomfortable situation, give your money where you are appreciated.

Crowded and popular place with plenty of indoor/Air conditioned seats. Have plant coconut milk for your latte, and it taste weird. No coffee taste, but taste like warm coconut water. (Translated by Google) I love the chicken wings with provolone cheese at Gato. It's also the only place where I eat okra. (Translated by Google) I've been to Bar Gato de Botas on several occasions and the experience has always been very good. The place is always full and there aren't many waiters, but I've never had to wait too long for service. The boneless chicken wings with gorgonzola are wonderful. I also tried this year's bar food, the escondidinho de pernil, and it was very good. Today I had the shrimp bobó for lunch: the portion for one person is generous and very tasty. The pina colada cocktail was great. Oh, and the beer is usually always cold. I recommend it! A batida pina colada estava ótima. Ah, e a cerveja do local costuma estar sempre gelada. Recomendo!

The food is tasty, well seasoned and well served for a good price. Two biggest issues there are the waiters and the chairs. When I arrived for some unbelievable reason the waiter assumed I was a foreigner and didn't try to understand what I said, even though I'm Brazilian and was speaking clearly. I asked two simple questions, he wasn't able to understand. I asked how much for the torrada Petrópolis combo and the plain coffee. He insisted on assuming I was asking to change the juice for the coffee. Later on, I was feeling bad and needed to take a medicine. I asked for tap water and he frowned on me. Took a long time to handle it to me. And the chairs there are completely awful if you weight more than 80kg. All said, it's a good affordable place to eat, just ignore the horrible service.
Adonay C — Google review
It is good, not great. The atmosphere and the ambience and the cakes inside are definitely the wow factor of this spot. Pro: - great cakes - great decor and atmosphere - decent price - decent service Con: - average food (easily make it all at home) - coffee is ok If I wasn't expecting more, I probably wouldn't have been this disapointed. It gave off a French vibe, so I was expecting a little more quality in the food and coffee options. Not bad at all, just not what I was expecting.

I was at the establishment this morning and I was not taken care of. I was alone at a table, due to the delay I called an attendant who wrote down my request. After about 20 minutes, when all the requests next door arrived, I asked again about my request and nothing. On the third attempt, the attendant told me that I had not made the request, that she was responsible for the sector and asked me who I asked for. There was no proactivity in solving the problem, as if I were responsible for the lack of communication from the attendants. Simplesmente fui embora sem comer.

It's an OK place for a quick bite. Food is not plentiful or fantastic but will do the job. They have a good selection of pastries inside the store. I got a sandwich that had transparent bacon (basically, 90% fat and no meat). I was hungry so ate it anyway, but it could be better.

I love this place . 3 years back when we shifted to Barramares condo, My Portuguese had limited efficiency. I was worried for ordering my menu . But the staff in this Padaria was helpful . They do not understand English but they understand language of customers. Helpful, ever smiling people . I like their breads. Specially Rabanade. Wall nut bread . Fresh juices . Misto quenti. They have good variety in lunch .it is buffet . Not very cheap but then quality is excellent . Cleanliness has been maintained beside taste and hospitality . Home delivary sometimes comes late . Coffee comes in very small plastic cup in take out . That is my complaint . Cup has to be big . Fresh dairy products beside meat slices. This Padaria is one stop for basics to buffet. I had seen near by Grand Nobel hotel customers visit here for lunch . It says volume about the quality product and price . They have a great range of sobremesa. It is aromatic to roam around near this Padaria to have that heavenly fresh bake bread fragrance. Do visit. Thank you .

Had a great breakfast with my sister at Desjejum this morning! First of all, the service? Top 5. Super kind and attentive—really made the whole experience even better. There are so many vegan options, which is amazing, and everything tasted super fresh. You can tell they really care about the quality of what they serve. The food itself? Delicious. Like, “already planning my next visit” delicious. They’ve got a spacious outdoor seating area, so it’s perfect if you want to enjoy some sunshine with your coffee. The place is actually pretty big, lots of room to sit, and it has a full-on bakery section plus tons of warm dishes—so whether you’re in the mood for something light or hearty, they’ve got you covered. It definitely gives more of a breakfast-lunch vibe (so maybe not your go-to dinner spot), but for those earlier meals? Absolutely perfect. I haven’t been for lunch yet, but I’d bet it’s just as good. I went by Uber, so I can’t speak to the parking situation, but everything else? 10/10. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I came back there because had a great experience initially as the space is cozy. However went back last Sunday with my husband and we had the worst and rude customer service from the staff. I would suggest to the manager train their staff manners and also check the efficency of the team as there were so many customers waiting to be served, almost 5 people in the staff and they couldn't handle it. I had to leave the place because I just wanted to get a toast with butter for taking out and they said it was going to take 15 min. I understand sometimes work is heavy but they treated us so rude and with no interest in helping. This is a comon thing in Rio de Janeiro, customer service is horrible with everyone! So please if wanna keep living from tourism and people form overseas try at least to be kind and make people went back.
Jenny V — Google review
Staff taking too long to attend the tables. A family sit down, waited maybe 10-15min. Nobody came to get their order. They left. Orders taking too long to be fulfilled. My boyfriend and I ordered both fruit salad. Mine arrived first. His arrived only in the end, after asking twice for it. Also, I thought it would be a trendy bakery, with nice decoration and such since it's located in a colonial house. No, just basic painting and decoration. I give it 6 months it'll be gone out of business.
Otávio V — Google review
Food is good, it can take a while for a simple order to come though. Service make their best but need some training. In my experience, we ordered an omelet and avocado toast, nothing too fancy. It took some time (place wasn't that busy), toast was ready way before the omelet and came out and back in to the kitchen before finally being served (upon request, since they didn't even know where to take my order). So, yeah, definitely some training.

Pão de Açúcar is a supermarket located in the Urca neighborhood, near Praia Vermelha. It's known for its fresh fruits and vegetables, pharmacy, and reasonably priced restaurant. The bakery next to the restaurant offers delicious options like Ciabatta with buffalo mozzarella. While it has great opening hours and a wide variety of products, shopping late at night may result in long queues. Despite being considered expensive by some, it offers unique products that are hard to find elsewhere.
This is one of the best supermarkets I've ever been to. They have fresh fruits and vegetables, a pharmacy and a restaurant as well. The food at the restaurant is reasonably priced and if you don't feel like eating at it, there's a bakery right next to it. My favourite choice at the bakery is the Ciabatta with buffalo mozzarella! Stopped by for coffee & cake after shopping - lovely filtered V60 with Minas Gerais coffee & trying a different style of pasteis de nata (the base was not crunchy & interesting to taste with lime zest). A good coffee place, our waitress was nice & helpful but we don’t know about the food.

An institutional restaurant in the city centre. Good Brazikian food, be aware it may be jam-packed at lunchtime.

The worst service I think we’ve ever come across. We don’t speak fluent Spanish, but we get by. We asked for our entire order in reasonable, comprehensible Spanish. The waitress seemed to either be completely illiterate or downright rude. The food and beverages were average and overpriced. Would not recommend and I don’t know why this place is rated so highly 🤔

Ordered 2 salads for lunch, and we where served to bowls of leaves. The Italian salad literally had 2 baby tomatoes, a few pieces of cheese and just leaves. No dressing, very disappointing as it was one of the more pricey things on their menu.we also waited over an hour for food. Over priced and disappointing.

Bad bad service. After lunch, Ordered coffee, did not receive it. After 15 mins where the cafe seems to be empty and the workers idle, found the same waiter. Reminded him about the coffee. He went to the counter and brought back the bill...which had had the coffee billed! And for that we need to pay 10percent service.

I explained that I had an appointment at 2 p.m. and would have to leave the house. At 1:40 p.m. I called the store and they told me that there was only one delivery person today. "He'll be leaving soon to deliver it," was what I heard. If there's any difficulty, then don't promise something that you won't keep!! After all, I was about to leave the establishment to go buy something at another bakery, but the manager approached me and made the promise that wasn't kept. I'll have to leave the house in 5 minutes, WITHOUT HAVING LUNCH. Thank you, Panificação Lagoa. I learned my lesson. Super trendy and as the name says, this place is a little hidden! It's such a cute place to come have coffee and eat something with a friend or alone ♥️ In love with this place Everything on their menu is super tasty but particularly the Tomato/Cheese toast... It's to die for! And their London fog (which I'm surprised to see on their menu) is also amazing! Regarding the price, I would say that it's more on the $$ side than the $ but it's definitely worth it!

It is pricey, can't and won't deny it. And that's mainly because it's a rare sight in Rio: a nice, pleasant, straightforward coffee shop! No capsules anywhere in sight! Vegan options, friendly staff, not that many food items but all of them are great, and of course, good, tasty, well done coffee. It's pretty cozy so don't bring more than two people at a time, but do bring everyone you know.

Nestled in a prime location in Rio, Hostel da Bruna Botafogo offers unassuming yet comfortable accommodations with a cozy bar, terrace, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Despite initial concerns about safety in the area, guests encountered no issues and found the hostel to be clean, sociable, and welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to assist guests when needed. While some negative reviews exist, it's important to remember that this is a hostel and not a luxury hotel.
The hostel is amazing, confortable and quiet, really nice looking, always clean, good kitchen, near from metro, it has a good location in general and the zone is quiet!! Really nice the people working there. The only thing is it has a lot of stairs!! If i have the opportunity i will go again!!

Hostel da Bruna is located in a perfect neighbourhood in Rio. We were nervous before arriving as to the safety of the area but we had absolutely no problems. The hostel itself is clean, social and comfortable with welcoming staff who even helped us out when our next booking fell through. There are some negative reviews which we didn't understand - this is a hostel and not a five star hotel. As far as hostels are concerned - this is one of the best!

I arrived and everything was dirty. I was in a hurry, so I booked the place, and the receptionist from the lady there was terrible. I checked in in the afternoon and by the end of the next day, I was desperate to get paid. The truth is, I left because of how dirty it was and because the lady at reception that night was also rude. I wanted to experience Brazil as a foreigner, but the customer service was terrible, and if you want a place to be at peace, this is the last option. For all North Americans who want an experience, look for another hostel.

(Translated by Google) When you arrive at the hostel, there are stairs, but this is nothing new since all the reviews mention it, but in the rain it gets extremely slippery and there is no place to support yourself on all the steps. I stayed in a room with 12 beds, it is a large room, but in the beds one person sleeps head to head (yes, facing a stranger!), and this could simply be solved with a curtain or a piece of wood (the same one used for the beds). Everyone I met in the room was great, except for a guy who used the towel I left on my bed before leaving and when I got back it was in the bathroom and all wet. When I told the reception staff about it, they were super helpful and offered to lend me a towel while they took mine to the laundry (which I thought was amazing). However, since nothing there works properly, due to their lack of communication, two days later when I went to get my towel they replied with "we thought this towel was ours" and "we didn't go to the laundry", and the day before I saw them saying they were going to the laundry and they had a bag full. It seems like there was a huge lack of communication between them to make things better. The bathroom is very small, but nothing you can't adapt to, however, with 12 people in the room, they cleaned the bathroom, and if the toilet paper roll was less than half full, they didn't replace it, and we were forced to go to the reception to ask for a roll every day, something that should be basic! Despite these bad situations, I met amazing people in the room (who made the stay better) and I became friends with everyone and the hostel is very well located.

I was informed that the request would be forwarded to the finance department and that the refund would be processed within 7 days. However, on October 13th, upon contacting them again, I was informed that the finance department had not yet authorized the refund, and that payment could only be made by the end of the week. I emphasize that the stated timeframe exceeds the legal limit for refunds in cases of buyer's remorse, especially considering that the payment was made via Pix, a method that allows for immediate reimbursement. Furthermore, no technical or operational justification was provided to explain the delay in processing the refund. This time we ordered a croque monsier, which was very good, and an iced frappe, which was good, but we thought the drink was too small in the cup, since half of it was whipped cream (pictured), about 4 or so of whipped cream. Usually the drink comes all the way to the top of the cup and the whipped cream is on top, like in the cafés I've been to here in RJ, it's bad because we paid for the drink and wanted it to be full. The menu doesn't say how many ml it is, but before ordering we asked the waiter, he said more than 300 ml, but unfortunately it didn't say it was more than 200 ml at most.

Dona Empada X is a must-visit spot for anyone craving the delightful taste of Brazilian empadas. These mini pies are filled with an array of delicious options, including shredded chicken, dried meat, prawns with Catupiry cheese, and even heart of palm. The pastry itself is baked to golden perfection and boasts a rich flavor that complements the generous fillings beautifully.
(Translated by Google) The empanadas are very well made, the shrimp is super clean. Honest little empanadas. I recommend it. Empadinhas honestas. Eu recomendo

Nice warm empanadas to indulge on after walking in the center. I think the empanadas could have been filled with more meat, and perhaps more seasoning. The dough was nice and crumbly. I also liked that they were served still hot in the inside.
JP F — Google review
(Translated by Google) They usually never have the flavors we want. If you are buying to take away, check that the quantities are correct before wrapping. The quality of all the products is terrible, I do not recommend it. Perhaps the worst store is on Rua Uruguaiana.

(Translated by Google) Good morning. I would like to suggest that you work with home deliveries, join iFood or something that allows deliveries that are not only within the vicinity of the store, since the stores that exist are in well-located points, which would make transportation and consequently sales easier. The empanadas are wonderful! (Original) Bom dia.

(Translated by Google) The pies are great. The price is a bit steep. But the service is terrible. The customer has to pick up and return the dish while the waitresses chat. They are incapable of leaving the counter to bring you a drink. You have to get up. (Original) As empadas são ótimas. O preço é meio salgado. Mas o atendimento é péssimo.
