If you are looking for a place to post on social media, this is perfect for you but if you want a real food/cafe there are bunch of them around way better than this tourist trap

Before paying they’ll parade a basket full of sweets and chocolate in the hope they’ll get you to buy more stuff And when you’re finally about to step out, you’ll be asked for 60r$ for a printed photograph..yeah, that trick they pull off at the beginning once you got past the queue. I don’t know what makes them think this is what makes clients enjoy their time in this place.

A Glorious Stop in Rio Visiting Confeitaria Colombo was an absolute highlight of our trip to Rio. The architecture is stunning—stepping inside feels like entering a glamorous time capsule. We treated ourselves to coffee, pastries, and some very necessary photo ops under the grand mirrors and stained glass ceiling. Everything was delicious, and the service was kind and attentive. Whether you’re into history, sweets, or just soaking up beauty, this spot is 100% worth it.

But don't forget to go inside and spend some time to see the delicacies and maybe buy something to bring back home.

We had a delecious breakfast here yesterday. Both Alex and Lawanda are top-notch servers. They are pleasant and were quick to bring our food. We really like the vibe here as it is great for people watching. This is the 3rd summer (it is winter for Rio) in a row that we have stayed in Leblon, and we always always dine here, shop for fresh meats, cheeses, and other last-minute groceries. I wanted to go to a nice cafe in São Paulo and here I found :) Their pao de quejio & pulled pork sandwich was so delicious! I love the ambient of this cafe very much, spacious, high ceiling and lots of greens. I’d def come back next time I visit São Paulo!

Amazing bakery. We went here multiple times while in Rio and every time it was great. All the dishes we tried were amazing and their bread and pastries were great. This is by far the best bakery in Rio and a level above the rest. Their croissants are good, the BLT was really nice with thick cut bacon and the coffee is great. Ordered Eggs Benedict (served on great brioche), Croque Madame (decent, not the absolute best I’ve had), PBJ served on sourdough and toasted (probably the best) and a cold brew, and Vietnamese coffee (too sweet, coffee not bitter enough). Service was efficient, staff spoke enough English to communicate. Prices are reasonable by US standards ($30 for everything, about 200 reals) Would recommend for brunch!

Found this place while walking around the Lagoa area and we loved the sandwiches here! They have gotten several awards and certifications for their food and it definitely lived up to expectations. It was packed around 2pm tho and our table arrangement for 4 people was a bit weird.

I liked it so much I ended up coming here every morning for breakfast during my stay in Rio. Their café lattes were consistently excellent, and their pizzas are definitely worth trying too. It’s a cozy, casual place with quality food and a great local feel. A solid choice if you’re staying in Copacabana!

Found this gem during a 10-minute walk from the JW Marriott on Copacabana. The Bakers has a dual concept - a bakery section up front and a sit-down pizzeria area where we decided to have lunch. A "must" for coffee lovers! Unfortunately it is one of the few places of this kind from Rio. The guys were very friendly, giving relevant information about the products. A great approach. There is the possibility to have several types of coffee that they sell in the form of espresso or latte. Tasting of different types of coffee is also possible. You can even brew your own coffee. You can pay for the coffee as much as you think it is worth it. Pay by yourself using card. A truely unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

The owner of the place and the personnel was so friendly that we visited this cafe two times in our stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had the opportunity to have a chat and felt like we already knew each other. Leo helps you try preparing your own coffee if you like, it was quite an experience. We got some freshly grounded coffee and they were so kind to prepare them elaborately in separate packages. These were gifts for our friends. We had some coffee for ourselves too and enjoyed every sip of it when we were at 10thousand kilometers away!

We went for a brunch. The place was very cosy both inside and outside. However, my girlfriend and I were truly disappointed with the service attitude. My girlfriend wanted to order a breakfast menu which included a natural juice. She asked if she could mix two fruits for the juice and said that she would even pay the price difference. Ten service however was extremely inflexible and ruled out such possibility. Zero customer-centric! Moreover, service brought a fried egg instead of a scrambled one. The fried eggs were initially too soft (a significant part of the eggwhite was still liquid). Also as I was about to finish with one of my plates the waitress asked if she could remove the plate; yet, before having answered that I wasn’t done yet she removed it. Food-wise it was good. The waffles were excellent, so were the juices. The avocado toasts were extremely difficult to eat and overall a bit bland in terms of flavour. The coffee was good.

I really like sitting outside at the round tables when the weather’s nice. It’s relaxed and casual, and great for hanging out. Inside is nice too if you want something quieter. They’ve got lots of juices! For soda lovers, being your own coca-cola: they don’t serve soda. Parking can be hit or miss depending on the time, so I usually just Uber there to keep it simple.

Expectations were kind of high of this one and not fullfilled unfortunately. Recommended to have great coffee and great ambient, I was expecting speciality level - what I found was a decent bakery with some coffee options. To be fair, the bread really was good and the bowls around us looked great, too. Minus one star due to quite basic coffee. Ambient is nice next to the gardens, especially with their Veranda. Service was great.

We sat at one of the tables outside and were offered a QR code to see the menu in English. This place didn’t just do baked goods, it also offered a wide range of breakfast items and sandwiches. We stuck to ordering some cakes. Unfortunately the one I really wanted to try which was Apple, Walnut and Cinnamon was only available as a large cake. I had to change to something else and chose Orange and Almond cake. Something got lost in translation as I ended up with an Almond Croissant. I just went with it and it was nice. My husband ordered an apple tart and crostine. The crostine was twisted delicate filo pastry integrated with little bursts of chocolate. It was a much lighter alternative to a pain au chocolate. The apple tart was simply delightful. The firm yet soft slices apple sat in a perfect sticky glacé on a bed of solid yet almost biscuity base. It teamed well with the coffee he had ordered. Along with this I chose a Pink Lemonade. This was like having a fruity mojito without the alcohol. There were full pieces of raspberry and blackberry in it.

The best Brazillian food I had during my trip to Rio. Walked in and this place was packed with locals. It had a good charm about it. We were seated and ordered the cod fish ball which was delicious and the brazillian lamb with broccoli rice and potatoes - this dish was the highlight meal of our entire 10 day trip. The lamb is baked for 8-10 hrs and then deep fried to give it the perfect texture and bring out all the flavors that are balanced by the broccoli rice and garlic potatoes. We also tried their Colorado beer and it paired very well with the meal. Service was quick and if I would return to Brazil, i would definitely stop by here again without a doubt. Highly recommend this gem of a place.

Came here for lunch after walking the Escandaria de Selaron and it was very good. We shared the Fillet Mignon for two people between four, a salad and the Italian sausage and it was more than enough. We also got a side of jamón that was delicious for 75 reals. And had the best Portuguese tart I’ve ever had! Although my first in Brazil so possibly bias. Definitely an overrated place. We wanted to eat something more local and classic in a place with tradition. Total disappointment. Our worst meal in Brazil. Dishes without any taste, overcooked vegetables and both fish tasteless. I like salmon and eat it often in various places around the world, but this was definitely the worst. It's a pity, because the service was really nice and we are sorry to write such a review.

Food was not tasty and not suitably prepared. I've got the pork rib, a standard dish in the restaurant and in Brazil. It came fried as well as the potatoes that were served as a side dish. This was absolutely the wrong way to cook a good rib and it wasn't even tasty at all. Cannot recommend despite its long history and presumed quality.

Absolutely fantastic place. We ordered the Argentina bbq and the beef with madeira sauce. The madeira sauce was incredible, the beef was tender without a single bit of fat and my friend doesn't eat too much and ate all the meat in the Argentina bbq. Highly reccomend this place. Lastly, we do not speak Portuguese, but the staff are so kind, respectful and make a huge effort. If you are in the area then you should visit here!

The interior is a little old and tired, but that adds to its charm. The waiters are in white suits, the portions are huge, it’s a real Brazilian restaurant with a history. Food: We went to this restaurant twice, and here are our favorites: the codfish croquettes - so crispy on the outside, with a thin crust and super tender and juicy on the inside. You could really taste the fish, the first time we had the croquettes they were seriously good. Then there was the grilled octopus with garlic – the best octopus I've ever had, and the best I've tried in Brazil. It was so soft and tender, with a crispy crust. Perfect balance of flavor and garlic. And their signature dish, the slow-cooked lamb roasted until crispy, with tender meat inside and a crispy crust, what could be better? Also, the rice with broccoli was phenomenal. Service: They have a menu in English, and some of the waiters speak English too, which made it super easy to navigate. The service was overall really good, the dishes came out quickly, and they cleared dirty plates right away. The waiters' uniforms were amazing. Overall: I highly recommend this restaurant. The decor might seem outdated, but it’s all part of the history. This restaurant has been serving guests for a long time. It was a real discovery for us.

Gringo Café is hands down one of the best breakfast spots in Rio! We visited twice, and both experiences were fantastic. On our first visit, I had the Farmhouse Breakfast, which was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We also tried the spicy buffalo chicken strips, which had just the right kick, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his grilled chicken club sandwich. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value. On our second visit, I opted for the sausage, egg, and cheese scramble, and once again, the quality and taste were top-notch. Whether you’re a local or visiting, Gringo Café is an absolute must-try. The food, atmosphere, and experience make it well worth any wait!

This place is the best! The breakfast food is so good, my friends and I loved going here during our weeklong stay in Rio. Plenty of options and the drinks are very fresh and delicious as well. This is a better spot than some places in the United States! It’s super casual and a little limited on seating but during the times we went, it was not crowded and naturally we were into other Americans that were in town.

This cafe is great if you're looking for simple breakfasts that feel home cooked and are natural. I ordered the waffle, a strawberry blueberry smoothie and the body builder breakfast (egg whites, cured salmon, and fruit). It came out to $30USD so demerit recommend cooking at home if you can, but still if not, you can pay a bit more and have them prepare that feel good home cooked meal for you. Also the service is very nice, wifi, and small TV for games.

Very good place for breakfast! Their breakfast for two people actually serves up to four if you add extra juices/coffee. Keep in mind that it gets very busy, specially on weekends so try to arrive early, service can be a bit slow if it’s too crowded but it’s worth the wait!

We don’t speak Portuguese and none of their staff spoke English but some Google translate and pointing at the menu did the trick. If you want to have a decent breakfast experience in a local cafe, I defiantly don’t recommend this place. I ordered tapioca filled with eggs and I received almost empty tapioca, having just one lonely egg in the center. When I complained, waiter told me that on menu it shows “eggs” on singular, so of course it is just one. In a good café you expect a good experience without paying attention on those details. Waiter should have told me this. Instead of it she was very rude.

Crowded and popular place with plenty of indoor/Air conditioned seats. Have plant coconut milk for your latte, and it taste weird. No coffee taste, but taste like warm coconut water. The food is tasty, well seasoned and well served for a good price. Two biggest issues there are the waiters and the chairs. When I arrived for some unbelievable reason the waiter assumed I was a foreigner and didn't try to understand what I said, even though I'm Brazilian and was speaking clearly. I asked two simple questions, he wasn't able to understand. I asked how much for the torrada Petrópolis combo and the plain coffee. He insisted on assuming I was asking to change the juice for the coffee. Later on, I was feeling bad and needed to take a medicine. I asked for tap water and he frowned on me. Took a long time to handle it to me. And the chairs there are completely awful if you weight more than 80kg. All said, it's a good affordable place to eat, just ignore the horrible service.

I had seen near by Grand Nobel hotel customers visit here for lunch . It says volume about the quality product and price . They have a great range of sobremesa. I came back there because had a great experience initially as the space is cozy. However went back last Sunday with my husband and we had the worst and rude customer service from the staff. I would suggest to the manager train their staff manners and also check the efficency of the team as there were so many customers waiting to be served, almost 5 people in the staff and they couldn't handle it. I had to leave the place because I just wanted to get a toast with butter for taking out and they said it was going to take 15 min. I understand sometimes work is heavy but they treated us so rude and with no interest in helping. This is a comon thing in Rio de Janeiro, customer service is horrible with everyone! Food is good, it can take a while for a simple order to come though. Service make their best but need some training. In my experience, we ordered an omelet and avocado toast, nothing too fancy. It took some time (place wasn't that busy), toast was ready way before the omelet and came out and back in to the kitchen before finally being served (upon request, since they didn't even know where to take my order). So, yeah, definitely some training.
