They have Community activities and education programs and some exercise classes such as Pilates. It used to be a school. Upstairs Hall is absolutely freezing, even on a warm day. Lots of stairs. I don't think there is a lift. Edited... There is a lift.. just wasnt told about it! Had an appointment to see someone. Was told she was "ipstairs".. didn't tell me where upstairs! There are three floors!! Another one who sits behind a desk all day. Should be more helpful!

Historic Sites
St. Machar's Cathedral, located in Old Aberdeen, Scotland, is a historic 12th-century church with significant ties to the Scottish Reformation. Despite its name, it has not been the seat of a bishop since 1690. The cathedral features stained glass windows, a heraldic ceiling listing medieval bishops from 1131 to 1560 and a memorial for John Barbour. Built on the site of an ancient chapel established by St.
Interesting historic site with a stunning wooden ceiling Visited St. Machar’s Cathedral and really enjoyed the experience. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect—it’s not a huge cathedral by any means, more like a very large church—but it definitely has charm and historical significance. I learned that what technically makes it a cathedral is the presence of a bishop, and it’s debatable whether that’s still the case today. Still, it holds the title and it’s worth a visit. Inside, the wooden ceiling is a highlight—beautifully crafted with decorative plaques that are genuinely impressive. You can also go upstairs for a great view and to admire the stained glass windows up close. Outside, the graveyard is packed with tombstones dating back to the 1700s, which adds even more atmosphere to the visit. A peaceful, thought-provoking stop with lots of character and history.
Leonard P — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral. Maintained beautifully and very well lit. The windows are particularly impressive. The gentleman in charge was very nice and allowed us to enter with our dog. The chur yard is also quite impressive. A small donation of £5 is requested if if you wish to donate by card. Parking is easy but paying can be a pain as you need to download an app and there is virtually no signal. That said, it's still worth a visit.
Lachlan M — Google review
Lovely Cathedral. The building and grounds were well looked after. There is a balcony with a good view. The staff were very friendly too,and I enjoyed a good chat with them. The ceiling was superb, and the touch screen explained all the various crests.
William M — Google review
Very unusual wooden ceiling, with shields of many countries. Visits are free and they give you a free leaflet, explaining the cathedral’s features, including information on all the shields. There is a shop. The day I visited was a family day, with refreshments and medieval costumes for children.

Specialty Museums
The Aberdeen Maritime Museum, situated in the historic Shiprow district, offers an immersive experience into the city's maritime heritage and its significant role in the North Sea oil and gas industry. Housed in the intriguing 16th-century Provost Ross's House, this museum showcases a diverse collection of models, photographs, and paintings that chronicle the evolution of the Dee estuary's port and depict the challenging lives of whale-hunters, herring fishermen, and North Sea traders.
Visited the Aberdeen Maritime Museum on a quiet Monday afternoon and had a truly enjoyable experience. The receptionist was incredibly warm and welcoming, setting a positive tone for the visit. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, blending the city’s rich maritime heritage with fascinating displays that appeal to all ages. It’s a gem tucked in the heart of Aberdeen and a perfect way to spend a few reflective hours. Entry is free which is amazing for what you get, but I do encourage visitors to donate 💰 if they can to support the continued care and presentation of this beautiful museum. You may have to wait a tiny little queue if it’s a busy day, staff are always ready to help on each floor with a smile. They have pamphlets for non-English speakers, so no excuse for you not to go. It is accessible for all abilities as long as there is an assigned carer to assist throughout your visit. This is one of the places you want to bring children and young adults to see what history and beauty this place holds and preserves. Highly recommend! ✨✨ Titi ❤️

I really enjoyed my visit to the museum. It was a great way to learn about not only maritime facts such as oil rigs and ships but also Aberdeen history. All the displays were done with great care and the exhibitions were very informative. The view to the port was also splendid and the gift shop selection was nice.
Kitti S — Google review
An excellent experience. An easy walk from the Railway Station. This museum is free, but you can donate by card or cash. Very friendly staff and an amazing space over five floors and three buildings. The museum features the maritime history of the area as well as the oil and gas industry. It also features exhibits on occasion. A reasonably priced gift shop featuring local souvenirs. I would visit here if you have an interest in maritime history, but is interesting for those who aren't.

A visit worth taking while in Aberdeen (or if residing here). Deployed in 4 floors, illustrates the history of Aberdeen shipbuilding and UK offshore drilling off Scotland coast. The abundance of wood all around creates a really cozy environment. Allow >1 hour to tour as it’s really interesting.

Can’t believe this amazing place is free! 😍 I love museums...they always take us back in time and make us feel part of history. The displays, ship models, and harbour views here were just beautiful. 🌊⚓️ The Aberdeen Maritime Museum, located on Shiprow overlooking the harbour, is one of the city’s most fascinating free attractions. It’s housed in a blend of historic and modern buildings, including Provost Ross’s House, which dates back to 1593. The museum beautifully showcases Aberdeen’s deep connection with the sea — from shipbuilding and fishing to the modern North Sea oil and gas industry. One of its main highlights is the impressive 9-metre model of the Murchison oil platform, along with intricate ship models, artefacts, and interactive displays spread across four floors. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the harbour from the upper galleries, making it a perfect mix of history, culture, and coastal charm. 🌊⚓️

Cool place especially for those who are more interested in plants and stuff. The kind of 'did you know' plates were fun! The only thing i can have a little but is that not all of the plants are taken care of the way they should be

A must visit place if you like conservatories and flora fauna varieties. Very well kept and maintained place with great number of plant species. I was amazed to see the quality of the plants in a cold climate like Scotland has. Beautiful flowers and some really oddball plants and trees. Someone has seriously put aome good thought into it and the staff seems to maintain it well too. No entry fee, but it’s run on donations. Takes about an hour to get through it. Will surely visit again!

Aberdeen Art Gallery, housed in a stunning granite building, showcases an extensive collection of art spanning over 700 years. The gallery features 22 galleries and exhibits, including paintings, designs, and contemporary artworks. It also includes the Cowdray Hall concert venue and the city's Remembrance Hall. Renowned for its Victorian architecture by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, it is the largest public art gallery in northern Scotland.
Lovely place to visit and fit donation only Enjoyed the variety of art and the encouragement to do my own drawing. Photos of my favourite pieces which are mainly contemporary but a lot of classical pieces too. Gallery is light and bright with sun light through sun column in middle. Do visit the top floor to be able to go outside and see Aberdeen with height..Great coffee too

Spent a couple of hours exploring this gallery and was most impressed. While the collection is naturally focused on Aberdeen and Scottish art, it does have a diversity of art, including sculptures, paintings, modern, eclectic, and also works by the French Impressionists (Renoir, Monet). The galleries are well laid out, and the artwork is well presented in a family-friendly way. This is a definite gem in Aberdeen’s cultural and heritage portfolio. Well worth visiting when in Aberdeen. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gallery with so many incredible features. The building itself is gorgeous, along with all the fascinating artwork 🖼️ exhibitions and the roof terrace is an added bonus. The gallery is full of interesting exhibitions, some interactive - from Aberdeen history to suffragette movements. It is absolutely worth a visit, it’s free and I definitely recommend the stunning views from the roof terrace too. Fo not miss this place. Thanks to all the tinder staff for galleries like this ❤️

I make it a point to visit an art gallery in every city I go to. These days many galleries focus on modern art which is not really my thing so it was great to see Aberdeen Art Gallery still showcasing traditional styles that clearly remain valued by the public. There are some incredible pieces here and I even discovered a few new favourites. Special shout out to Joseph Farquharson and Ken Currie in my opinion two of the most amazing artists with paintings on display. The staff are very welcoming and do not pressure you into donations which is appreciated since the gallery like many others is free to explore. It is on the smaller side which is a bit of a downside but for its size it packs in a great variety of work. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Aberdeen.

Huge art gallery with interesting interactive display in the ground floor explaining the history. Good mix of styles and eras. Highlights: Fascinating room on McBey Interesting comparison of English/ French styles in impressionists. The Aberdeen/ Doric room Shocked to come across my young doppelganger, painted by Dorothy Johnstone. Nice shop Helpful staff. A jewel for the region and well beyond P.S. What happened to the bodies under Gallery 4?

Enjoyable, friendly and easily accessible visit. Just a shame about the disabled parking outside. The number of people without badges sitting, waiting in their cars is a real slight on the city. Hopefully the gallery is doing what they can to get this changed so their visitors can actually get close to the place.

Nestled in the heart of Aberdeen, The Marcliffe Hotel and Spa offers an elegant stay in a country manor setting. Guests can indulge in luxurious spa treatments, savor local cuisine at the Conservatory Restaurant, and enjoy a fine selection of wines from the cellar. With its proximity to attractions like Duthie Park Winter Gardens and His Majesty's Theatre, this luxury hotel provides a perfect base for exploring the city. Additionally, it is renowned for its delightful afternoon tea experience.
Staying at the Marcliffe Hotel was an absolute dream from start to finish. It was truly a 10/10 experience in every way. The service was warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. Every staff member we encountered made us feel genuinely welcome, without ever being overbearing. The rooms were beautifully appointed. They were spacious, comfortable, and full of thoughtful touches that made it feel like a real luxury retreat. The views from the property are stunning, especially with the surrounding greenery and peaceful atmosphere that gives you a proper sense of escape. The food was another highlight — every meal was delicious, fresh, and elegantly presented (esp. the Seafood!). Whether it was breakfast or dinner, the quality and care that went into the food was clear. It’s rare to find a place that gets absolutely everything right, but the Marcliffe truly does. We left feeling completely relaxed and well cared for, and we are already planning our return. Highly recommend without hesitation.

Booked a night for my mum and dads 40th wedding anniversary and my mums 60th birthday and they had the most wonderful experience. From start to end they had a 5 star experience, the service, food, room, everything, was first class. I cannot thank you enough for providing them with such an exceptional experience.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at The Marcliffe Hotel for one night from Sunday, August 10 to Monday, August 11, 2025, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. This five-star hotel truly lives up to its reputation, thanks to its outstanding staff and impeccable service. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Carly at reception. As a party of four, we initially faced an issue with the hotel’s policy of allowing only two people per room. Carly went above and beyond to understand our situation and promptly secured a second room for us, ensuring our stay was comfortable and stress-free. Her professionalism and kindness made a lasting impression—thank you, Carly!🙏 The dinner at the hotel’s restaurant was a highlight of our stay. The meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and showcased the culinary expertise of the kitchen team. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day. The next morning, we had an early flight to catch, and the staff’s thoughtfulness truly shone through. Tony, who was in charge of the front area, was incredibly accommodating and arranged for special sandwiches to be packed for our journey. These were expertly prepared by Chef Dave and Fraser in the kitchen, and we could taste the care and pride they put into their work. The sandwiches were a lifesaver and made our travel day so much more pleasant.👍👌 The Marcliffe’s staff are truly its greatest asset—everyone we encountered was kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay memorable. The hotel itself is elegant and comfortable, but it’s the exceptional service that sets it apart. We can’t recommend The Marcliffe enough and will definitely return on our next visit to Aberdeen. Thank you to Carly, Tony, Chef Dave, Fraser, and the entire team for making our short stay so special!

The room we had was very comfortable and all the staff were very friendly and had great service. I wish the hotel was closer to Aberdeen, but we were on a golf trip so we just ate at the hotel and the food and service was excellent. It really good the building is set away from the road, it makes the hotel nice and quiet. A great place to in Aberdeen.

Have visited here numerous times, bad sadly, the dining experience gets worse every time. Visited here for Sunday lunch, now l don't mind paying for quality and a satisfying meal, but what they now charge is ridiculous for what you actually get. The soup yesterday was nice enough, definitely nothing special and the little shaving of smoked fish was difficult to find in the soup Two of my family ordered a Roast Beef main, they both said it was tasty and a nice big plate of food, sadly l can't say the same about the Chicken Main, a small piece of chicken with a tiny amount of potato & some purée sauce, to be honest it looked like a half portion, then at the end you get hit with a 12.5% gratuity fee (optional) To be honest, the prices have been hiked up for less value for your money Personally l won't be returning

We just lucked into our stay here when visiting nearby Dunnottar Castle. We couldn’t believe it. Beautiful place, excellent staff, big well appointed rooms (we were in Blair), great restaurant, and the price was the best bargain of all the places we stayed in Scotland. Can’t recommend it enough!

Tried several times to contact the hotel to book 6 rooms for a business but nobody answered, after hours of waiting I gave up. The rooms were specific so had to be booked over the phone. Obviously not enough staff to cover requests. I’m sure it’s wonderful but not easy to book.

Had a nice visit at the weekend, late on the afternoon. Ordered a cortado and cheese scone and sat at the window people watching. Service was quick but I was left thinking they had forgotten my scone when my coffee arrived, turns out it was being warmed up and arrived a few moments later. Staff were polite and friendly, making sure everyone was looked after.

It’s not our first visit to Books and Beans Café, and it certainly won’t be our last! This charming spot in the city centre has become our favorite place to enjoy breakfast. We love sitting on the second floor, where the cozy corner is filled with children's books and a long family-style table, perfect for gatherings. We always recommend booking early to secure our spot, especially if you plan to visit between 11:30 and 12:30—the ideal time to explore both breakfast and lunch menus! The staff is incredibly friendly and always eager to help with menu choices. Every dish we ordered was a delight! While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the experience is truly worth it. From the warm atmosphere to the delectable food, Books and Beans Café is a gem we’re excited to return to again and again! Highly recommended!

Coffee was good (bonus they don’t charge extra for oat milk) and service was quick. Nice decor and it didn’t feel too busy or crowded! The scone was hot and freshly made - but would’ve been better to have clotted cream rather than butter.

Two things I love in life: second hand books and coffee, so being at Books and Beans was like heaven. It was hard to leave - but they closed, so I had no choice 🤭. At least I was able to take some books with me home to Canada!

The Tolbooth Museum in Aberdeen is a well-preserved 17th-century jail that has been transformed into a museum showcasing historical relics and information. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city and offers a glimpse into the harsh conditions faced by prisoners, including waxwork figures in original cells, iron manacles, a scolds bridle, and the original guillotine used for executions.
Spent Christmas with Mum here this 2019. Such a quiet and peaceful place. Although it all looks greyish, it’s still beautiful. I love the uniformity of granite buildings. Lovely Scotts as well. :)

Lovely cute museum and good for like half an hour of you're just looking but about a hour if you're stopping to read everything. What a very interesting little museum. Great dark history of Aberdeen. The only draw back is the stairs. Very narrow and steep. Make use of the rope to aid you on them.

Worth a visit. It’s free and there’s lots of medieval history here to learn. The stairs are very steep and tight hence it’s not safe for everyone.

A good preservation of city's history. Presented a good representation of the conditions convicted murderers, debtors, alleged witches and others faced during the 17th and 18th centuries.

A very interesting museum, entrance is free. Any ladies who visit it would be a good idea to wear a pair of flat shoes, as the stairs are steep narrow and winding to say the least. Be sure to give a donation on your way out, to help keep this fantastic museum open.

Went to the Chester with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. The location and visual appeal of the Chester is fantastic. I have to say that I can't fault the food it was lovely I had the Cheese Souffle to stat and the Hake Kiev for main, dessert was a gingerbread crème brulee and I expected it to be more than just a crème brulee with a gingerbread biscuit. It was still delicious. Overall service was fine although inexperience of waiting staff may have contributed to the slightly erratic service which is why I couldn't give 5 stars. Overall I would return as this may just have been an off night.

I had a booking for 4 nights in 'The House' - a 4-bedroom property within the grounds of The Chester Hotel and had pre-paid £1888 when I made the booking, as requested by the hotel. Unfortunately, due to Storm Floris, my flight from England was cancelled and I was advised that there was a 'danger of death' to travel to Aberdeen. I emailed the hotel the day before I was due to arrive at 11:08am - nearly 28 hours before the check-in time (3pm) of my booking to inform them. The hotel informed me that I was not entitled to any refund. I suggested even a 50% refund would be acceptable but again they refused. The hotel's Terms & Conditions on their website clearly state: > Cancellation Policy - Please note, if a booking is cancelled after 2pm the day before check in, then The Chester Hotel will charge 100% cancellation fee of the total amount due. I had emailed at 11:08am the day before, two hours and fifty-two minutes before their '100% cancellation fee' should apply. The hotel said that 'as a gesture of goodwill', they could either change the name of the booking to someone else, or I could reschedule a new booking within '3 months'. I am an international businessman and my schedule is planned more than 6 months in advance. I asked if I could reschedule in 2026 as I planned to come to Aberdeen then, but the hotel refused. All my friends and associates are based in England and they would have faced the same issue as me travelling to Aberdeen given Storm Floris. As it looked like I was going to completely lose the £1888 I had spent, I offered the 4-bedroom, 4-night stay - a total of 16 room-nights, to homeless charities in Aberdeen but the hotel said that wasn't allowed due to 'safeguarding' reasons. Clearly, they felt that performing such a charitable act would lower the tone of their establishment. I thought it could have been a good PR opportunity for them and even notified the local press. This is an unkind, uncompassionate and greedy hotel that does not care about its guests. Looking at their publicly available accounts at Companies House, they made substantial losses in 2023 and 2024 and have accumulated losses of of over £16m in their P&L. The latest accounts show they owe creditors a staggering £27.6m pounds. I am a firm believer in karma, so time will tell whether running an operation in this manner will lead to success or failure. I think I already know the answer. As far as I am concerned, this is one to avoid. Let's hope the big bad wolf, Storm Floris, doesn't blow their house down. > Thank you for your reply. At no point was I "aggressive and threatening". I was polite and courteous at all times. I do not like leaving negative reviews and stated that I would rather give you an opportunity to resolve the matter. Only as a last resort did I state that I would be leaving a review due to your lack empathy. Even though I paid in advance, it was not made clear to me that it would be entirely non-refundable. I have attached a screenshot of the hotel's Terms & Conditions from their website in which it clearly implies that a refund would be due if the cancellation is made more than 24 hours in advance. I offered the hotel an opportunity to provide a 50% refund but they refused. I was not asking to reschedule the booking "years in advance" but for the first quarter of 2026 - less than 6 months away. I have found the hotel to be very defensive and they communicate with their customers like a defence barrister rather than a kind and caring organisation. They have received many other negative reviews, yet the only negative review they have ever responded to is this one which is most surprising.

Discover the wonders of science at Aberdeen Science Centre, a hub of interactive exhibits, experiments, and live shows that will ignite your curiosity and engage visitors of all ages. Located on Beach Boulevard at 179 Constitution Street, this center offers hands-on workshops and dynamic displays covering topics such as energy, space, and life sciences. It's the perfect place to introduce children to the most fascinating aspects of science through engaging exhibitions that explore everything from electricity to the solar system.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Dragged the Kids, Stayed for the Fun I’ll be honest—I had to drag my kids to the Aberdeen Science Centre. They protested as if I’d suggested a full day of algebra lessons. But, like any determined parent armed with the promise (threat?) of educational fun, I persevered. And you know what? It was actually brilliant. We spent a solid four hours immersed in hands-on experiments, interactive exhibits, and enough flashing lights to make me wonder if I’d accidentally walked into an ‘80s disco. The kids went from “Why are we here?” to “Mum/Dad, look at this!” in record time. Science magic. Now, the café… well, let’s just say it was an experience. Understaffed? Absolutely. Top-tier cuisine? Not exactly. But as the old saying goes, “Hunger is the best sauce,” and after all that learning, we’d have eaten anything. The food was, shall we say, serviceable. It filled a hole. It made a turd. Job done. Would I return? Absolutely. Would I eat beforehand? Probably. But if you’re looking for a great way to entertain the kids and trick them into learning, this is the place.

A wonderful place where not only the youngest children, but also their older siblings will have fun. Educational experiments will teach children to understand the world around them. What an amazing place! You will definitely not get bored here. A big plus deserves the cafe there with tasty food and drink. So good panini I haven't tasted for a long time. Thank you.

Deployed over 2 floors, it’s interesting especially for school-age children. Not all devices work perfectly, yet its overall maintenance level is good. If you are with children, you could easily spend 2-3 hours here; If not, 45 min could be enough.

My kids really love to come here, we spent over 4 hours and they still wanted to stay longer. It's a great centre for kids big and small, mine are 10 and 13 and really enjoyed exploring and using all the interactive activities.

As a Secondary Science Teacher, I’ve been to many Science centres/museums across the country and was very impressed with this one. Having changed the way we teach/language we use about Energy, I’ve been unimpressed with a number of them recently when they’re still using the wrong language that could confuse pupils - but not here!!! Very impressed. When I first walked in, I wondered if there would be enough for us to do. But Oh yes! We got there at 11 and left at closing at 4:30. My kids (10 and 15 and also having been to lots of Science centres) spent lots of time on lots of the different areas (and I even got a bit addicted to one of the games they had set up - downloaded and now playing at home!) and had a wonderful time. I could see that if it was really busy you might not get to go on lots of the bits and so find it not as good. They got to take part in an Engineering Hands On Workshop and a VR Headset session. We liked the ‘scienced up’ cafe and the food was good. We ended up getting three sets of coffee while we were there.. Overall, very impressed. The kids and I both said - shame there’s not one like this closer to home, as we’d be there all the time!

As a member of Aberdeen Youth Movement and MSYP for Aberdeen Central with whom I volunteer, I often find myself in the halls of Marschial College in one meeting or another but I was most recently present when I along with my Sea Cadet Unit attended a memorial ceremony in remembrance of VE-DAY 80 years. It was a landmark moment in my and so many lives especially for those who’ve taken part. The buildings were lit up beautifully and the beacon itself made it that much more transcendent in its appearance. Thank you to all those who turned out for this event and I look forward to returning to this important Aberdeen landmark soon.

Of all buildings made with granite in the world, this is the second largest. The design is very impressive, I must say. This is a phenomenal structure, and it is punctuated with eye-catching and intricate details. It is also a very important building to the city of Aberdeen - housing the city council, and serving many other public purposes. Public transport to and from here is quite straightforward and it is a very picturesque location for photographers and tourists.

Great experience, what a wonderful way to celebrate the great citizens of Aberdeen and the locality. I found their stories, their artifacts and the building fascinating. I wasn't sure the Hall of Heroes at the start works at all, so skip through that and the rest is worthwhile. Probably an hour to go round but could spend more time engaging and reading everything.
Chris R — Google review
According to the staff inside, this used to be a 'dressed' house with furniture and fittings to suit the history of the place. Now it hosts a modern exhibition showcasing the achievements of famous people from Aberdeen over time. The information and supporting exhibits is interesting stuff, with interactive elements for the younger audience. There is a fantastic painted ceiling in one room. I think the size of the place could accommodate some old (which I think people would be expecting) and the new, as there is too much to take in in one visit. A beautiful building with an excellent museum - which was free to enter. Lots of interactive elements which makes all aspects of the museum brilliant for children and families. There are lots of floors with really interesting information. Make sure to check out the room with the beautiful catholic paintings - a definite highlight for us! Staff were friendly and helpful.

Free entry, two-for-one exhibit: historic home AND lots of information about the people of Aberdeen who have significantly impacted the world. Some exhibits are interactive. Stairs between floors. Each room contains a different exhibit. In the “painted gallery” use the provided magnifying mirrors to view the paintings better. There are seats to make this easier/ safer. Also provided: map of descriptions of the paintings. Some exhibits have activities suitable for children (& enjoyable for adults)
Lisbeth S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. I would definitely recommend everyone visits for the "painted gallery" alone. The staff were absolutely lovely, the exhibits were really interesting, and I left feeling like I'd had a really fulfilling day! It's free to enter, and it kept my occupied for about 2/3 hours, so it would be a nice day out alone or with friends to learn more about Aberdeens history. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous to look at too! The spiral stairs are a bit scary, and it doesn't have disabled access, but there is a little bit where you can sit and look through all the exhibits on a screen, so although it's not ideal, considering it's an old building and they can't install a lift, I think they did a nice job of being inclusive.

Seaton Park is a spacious riverside park with gardens, mature trees, and open green areas. It features a playground and facilities like toilets for visitors' convenience. The park offers a picturesque route starting from Grandholm Drive, passing through Grandholm Gardens to admire the 'Mother Earth' sculpture by Andy Scott. As you continue through Grandholm and Diamond bridges, you'll enter Seaton Park where St Machar Cathedral's towers stand amidst lush green spaces and walled gardens.
Lovely park very next to Aberdeen Cathedral spreading on a big area. Best area for a walk and dog friendly too. Many people were out with their dogs for a walk even it was freezing cold. There are benches and bins around and many pathways to take for a stroll. They manage this park well. It must be best place for a picnic in summer. There’s river flowing next to it which is also very picturesque. The trails are out of dirt so if you go on the rainy day they will be muddy. There is a playground for children making it a family place. Nice big woods area which is very beautiful. Worth a walk which cost nothing.

Beautiful, spacious park in Old Aberdeen with riverside walks, colourful gardens, and a great play area featuring the old Mr Therm engine. Ideal for families, walkers, and nature lovers. Lots of wildlife around the River Don. Free parking available. Peaceful, well-kept, and perfect for a relaxing day out.

I adore this park, it has lots to offer, it has lovely paths which I think are pushchair/wheel chair friendly. Lots of grassy areas for dog walkers and large area to kick a ball around. There is a fantastic play park which any children who love trains will be amazed at. I think there are toilets but I'm unsure. There is a lovely garden area too. On a sunny day this park is the place to be. Oh and there is parking if you decide to travel by car.

Seaton Park in Aberdeen is a beautiful 27-hectare green space located in the Old Aberdeen neighborhood. This popular park offers a variety of activities and attractions for visitors of all ages.
Janny L — Google review
The park itself is one of my favourites in Aberdeen, even though you can sometimes find shady characters, and unhinged youngsters messing about, but again, that's not the park's fault. River Don flows on top side, and there are some gorgeous gardens inside. Playground for children, big enough to jog for a few minutes, can enjoy a bit of the wildlife (geese, ducks, many other birds), and St. Machar cathedral, and other picturesque points worth seeing. Parking is not a problem, but drive slow, since the access is narrow, and you can find bikes, children, dogs along the way.

Childhood park, so many different spaces within to see. Currently I stay at the play park because of the kids but its a fabulous place for parties picnics and more. Very family friendly. We also love the walkway where you can go berry hunting, exploring and finding swans

Beautiful park, and it's huge! So nice to see kids playing on the equipment, adults playing Frisbee, and all the people walking their dogs. Had a very peaceful and picturesque walk next to the river in search of otters, but only managed to find a lovely swan couple. Stopped in the cathedral on the way home. Absolutely stunning. Great day and well worth the visit if the weather permits and you're in the area.

Union Terrace Gardens, located in the heart of Aberdeen, is a sunken Victorian garden that has recently undergone extensive refurbishment. The gardens now feature improved accessibility, lighting, interactive play areas, artwork, and additional seating. Despite the current lack of greenery due to recent renovations, it is expected to become a beautiful destination once the plants and grass have grown. Visitors can enjoy historic arches, Victorian toilets, statues, and three new pavilions with a coffee shop.

Nestled in the heart of Aberdeen, the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting stands as a testament to the city's rich history, nearly as old as Aberdeen itself. Often referred to as Mither Kirkyard or Mother Churchard, this stunning church is an architectural gem that captivates visitors with its impressive design and historical significance.
On doors open day you can explore the archeological dig site, but normally you can visit the church and marvel at its beauty. They have a large folder inside with a catalogue of photos from the archeological dig. Inside the church is beyond beautiful with Marcellus stained glass windows, definitely somewhere you should visit if you’re in the city centre. The old kirkyard has so many beautiful, exquisitely decorated old graves and infoboards explaining who’s who, with a lot of historically important peoples graves within the grounds and old graves that are hundreds of years old. The kirkyard is a beautiful wee walk, somewhere that’s beautiful at all times of year.

Visited this gravy yard last week. The bench are full of people drinking alcohol, and seems to be a meeting place of people with problems. They shut the gates at just gone 5pm. The graveyard needs some work done to did, and is starting to look a bit run down. Worth a viewing... but did not feel safe at all. Would not recommend and would not revisit.

Very peaceful and beautiful church building and exemplary kept cemetery. Amazing history in this area of Union Street. I was simply walking by and the sight of the seagulls on top of the memorisl stones was too good an opportunity to miss. They appeared to be keeping an eye on the graves....... perhaps warning off evil spirits?

Went specifically to Aberdeen to visit the church because it features in our family history. V disappointed to find it closed, even though it states online that it's open Wed n Thurs 10-1. From the outside it looks neglected, n the drinkers congregated in the graveyard didn't help the image either, so not even sure if it is even open anymore?

What a gem! A really interesting upper storey never found in English churches. Downstairs lots of history of The Mither Kirk and fantastic modern sculptures and bespoke furniture by Tim Stead. Wonderful stained glass window by Shona Mcinnes. Lovely lady guided us then told us about the amazing installation at Migvie old Kirk....which is another story. You do not need to have a "churchy" background to appreciate this great treasure......but keep any visiting children quiet please.

When to Donmouth Local Nature Reserve in the afternoon on Friday 05 Sep 2025, it was during a hight tide so no any wildlife appear on the river. With its proximity to RGU's Garthdee campus, it's a popular choice for students, while its family-friendly environment also appeals to young families.

The Bridge of Dee, in Ruthrieston (Aberdeen) is an beautiful 1527 road structure. It is still in use today. The bridge has a very narrow path for pedestian (so be careful), but has a few out bumps, so you can let someone pass by and continue on. The best view of the bridge is from the lower river side park (on the northern embankment) or Bridge of Dee Park on the southern side. The River Dee passes beneath.

Nice attentive waiter (the first one we had) cleaned the table etc for us, but for our next round of drinks got delivered by a different waiter who didn’t bring the sugar for the tea and our peanuts for the beer. After a year, I returned to Aberdeen again and chose this apartment after considering the location and price. The location is excellent, the room is spacious and the lighting is good. But, but! Since I started the lease in the form of a short-term lease plus one-year renewal, and the apartment will only be cleaned before the start of the lease every year, so the room I checked in has not been cleaned, which means that I will face the mess left by the previous tenant: the smelly refrigerator, the oily microwave oven, full of debris and hair on the mattress, the ubiquitous bending hair! I'm pretty sure that curly form won't be hair! The most heinous thing is that when I try to flush the shower room with hot water, the shower room exposed to hot water emits an extremely disgusting smell: the smell of human semen! I hope the apartment can penalise the previous tenant, which has caused serious damage to my spirit.

The spacious rooms are perfect for university life and the community is welcoming. There are events organized by Unite that make it easy to meet new people. Additionally, there's a free gym and good WiFi available.
I have stayed at Causeway View for 3 years and absolutely loved every moment of it! I came to Aberdeen in 2021, a year full of uncertainty and strict Covid-19 restrictions, but the amazing team at Causeway led by Gary McLennan made me feel at home! The Causeway View team is experienced, welcoming and always happy to assist with any matter: maintenance, summer storage, deliveries, security and general queries! The rooms are Causeway are modern though still bearing a well-kept granite facade - stunning inside and out! This also includes the kitchen and toilets! The furniture is changed every few years, which is evident of importance of comfort at Causeway View. Causeway has also lovely facilities: a gym, study rooms, laundry rooms and a rooftop terrace. Causeway View is also situated ideally in Aberdeen, 25 minutes to/from the airport by bus. It is also walking distance to the University of Aberdeen, 30 minutes to the Foresterhill Health Campus, 20 minutes to the city centre, with many close supermarkets like Morrisons, Lidl and Matthews Food Chinese Supermarket next door. Also, on a nice sunny day, there's a small terrace garden where one can go and enjoy the sun. Overall, it's been a satisfying experience staying here for the last two years!

I wasn’t meant to stay at Causeway initially however it was a blessing. The building speaks for itself really, and the staff are excellent. Maryn ( who works at the main desk) helped me get settled into a nice room which was spacious and perfect for uni. The community is also really nice and if you'll find it fairly easy to meet a nice group of people, especially with some of the events Unite puts on for us. Plus there’s a free gym and good WiFi, what else do you need... Also if you’re clumsy and lose your key there’s onsite staff 24/7 to let you back in your room so you don’t end up sleeping outside spending hours retracing your steps. All in all, it’s worth more than the price you pay. Elijah

It's nice, you can log maintenance requests for free and people will sort it. It is roomy for student accommodation, the ensuites are very small & the kitchen should probably have more drawers considering I'm in a flat of 10 people though. Also it's extremely expensive. Unless it's REALLY worth it for the computer room and gym for you I would recommend somewhere cheaper where you can get the same room.

I usually like to support the independent outlet but the woman was very rude. I asked for coleslaw. She screamed at me saying no. I tried to explain that all I wanted were the ingredients that I saw in front of me... Onion, lettuce, cabbage and Mayo. No... She didn't have coleslaw and I should leave. When I reiterated for her to digest what I was saying in the kindest manner... She went crazy, said ok.... Then I asked for garlic Mayo on top and asked me to leave. Felt like I was in an awful comedy sketch. So no. I didn't order anything

Serviced accommodation
Kepplestone Manor, nestled in the charming West End of Aberdeen, offers a delightful blend of modern living and comfort. This stylish development features four main apartment blocks with open-plan layouts that create an inviting atmosphere for residents. While the apartments are well-appointed and exude cleanliness, some guests have noted challenges with noise insulation from the bustling streets outside. However, many appreciate the home-like feel it provides—minus the daily chores!
The best in Aberdeen!, very clean, everything looks new. Also Lucy Hames the manager was REALLY lovely and helpful Definitely will come again
Hmood K — Google review
Nice apartments, comfortable beds. Terrible noise insulation! Feels like the windows are opened and the street is very loud and busy. Hard to get optimal temperature in the apartment.

DO NOT BOOK HERE. We had booked this property 3 months in advance, for a 3 night stay. Had paid in full one month before. Requested more info on how to check in and our accomodation was cancelled 2 hours before check in with no explanation. Will not answer any telephone calls to explain.
Lydia B — Google review
We had booked an apartment couple of months before our arrival for a 5 nights, and was charged for the full amount. I didn’t receive the checkin details till few hours from our arrival and when I requested it I received a cancellation with no reason, when I phoned they told me the apartment has maintenance issue , but If this was true I didn’t get any notification up until I asked for the checkin details. I was left with no options for me and my family who we travelled from abroad. Will never try them again and would advise to not book this apartment.

Very comfortable. Slightly off putting no Reception staff or equivalent visible. But enjoyed our stay . Would use it again.

Very well located and clean. Its like a home away from home just without the cleaning and all the other day to day hassle you worry about running your own home

Aberdeen Beach is a stunning and unspoilt stretch of coastline in Scotland, offering beautiful golden sands that extend from the River Dee to the River Don. It's important to note the restrictions for dog access, but it's definitely worth doing some extra research to fully enjoy this picturesque area. The 2km boardwalk provides breathtaking views of landmarks and the sea, making it perfect for leisurely walks with plenty of places to eat nearby.
Aberdeen Beach is a spot I hold dear, and I find myself drawn to it every day. The coastline stretches gracefully from the River Dee to the River Don, offering a generous canvas for leisurely walks. Each day, I take my two spirited Border Collies along, and they revel in the vast expanse of clean, golden sand beneath their paws. What fascinates me is the beach's ever-changing character. Throughout the year, it offers a diverse array of discoveries, from washed-up driftwood to intriguing sea life temporarily making an appearance on the shore. The beach's length is another aspect I cherish. Walking almost seamlessly from the Dee to the Don, accompanied by the gentle rhythm of the waves, provides a welcome escape from the demands of everyday life. The sand is impeccably clean and finely grained, making each step a pleasure. For those who appreciate nature, have a fondness for dogs, or simply seek a tranquil retreat, Aberdeen Beach is a place that stands out. It's a locale where memories are crafted, unexpected finds are encountered, and life's simpler joys are deeply appreciated. Whether it's the joyful barks of my collies resonating with the waves or a stunning sunset gracing the horizon, Aberdeen Beach consistently leaves a lasting impression.

Aberdeen beach is a lovely place to just sit and watch the water. There’s plenty of free parking along the pier and it’s only a short walk to get on the beach. It’s safe and a great place to take dogs to play (as you see a lot of the locals do).

Windy but ok. Good place to running
Marek S — Google review
Lovely long beach, ideal for walking the dog or along the paved area higher up. Plenty to see out at see and landmarks on land. Parking outside cafes and amusements busy but further along not an issue.
Stevie A — Google review
Always amazes me that so many locals dont realise how lucky they are to have such a fantastic stretch of beach right on their doorstep , it stretches from the Don to the Dee and has a 2km boardwalk with views north towards Peterhead and south to Girdleness lighthouse, theres plenty of places to eat after enjoyong the walk alongside the sea
