Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse is a renowned food market in Lyon, known for its association with the legendary chef Paul Bocuse. The market offers a wide variety of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and other gourmet products. It's a popular destination for food enthusiasts and tourists looking to experience authentic Lyonnaise cuisine.
Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse is more than just a market; it's a vibrant, sensory feast and an absolute must-visit for any food lover in Lyon. This indoor market is a true testament to Lyon's reputation as the gastronomic capital of France. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in the sights, sounds, and aromas of exceptional produce. Stalls groan under the weight of incredible cheeses, charcuterie, freshly baked breads, exquisite pastries, and an impressive array of seafood. You'll find everything from regional specialties to international delicacies, all of the highest quality. What truly sets Les Halles apart is the opportunity to not only shop but also to dine. Numerous small restaurants and counters offer immediate gratification, serving up fresh oysters, Lyonnaise specialties, and gourmet treats right there in the market. It's a fantastic place to sample local flavors, enjoy a leisurely lunch, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere.

The food market in Lyon is truly a food lover’s paradise. Its offering everything from fresh produce and artisanal cheeses to cured meats and pastries. The variety and quality are showcasing the best of French gastronomy.

Such an amazing experience in Lyon. A great representation of the gastronomic history and life of Lyon. Loved all the stories and information about the great chefs and seeing and trying local specialities. I highly recommend doing a private tour. We went with On City Lyon. The guide was knowledgeable and spoke good English. The tastings were fantastic and we had a great time. The markets were busy with rugby fans but our tour meant we had seats and were able to get in and try a number of different local specialities. One of our favourite tours and visits as a couple.
Rosalie B — Google review
Came on a Sunday afternoon at about 1pm and some shops were already beginning to close. Some items can be pricey so we didn't buy much, though it was nice to see the variety of goods being sold. Would be worth coming if you arrive earlier, where you can spend more time exploring the area.
Jonathan C — Google review
How I wish I’d enjoyed this better. There was so little that was gluten free and the vendors weren’t interested in my questions so I never felt anyone understood enough to feel safe eating there. We were starving! Took some ham and cheese & went to the gf bakery and got done bread but by then I was hangry. Tried the risotto which was delightful but I reacted and I don’t have a clue why? It wouldn’t have wheat in it? Loved Dijon market much better.
Cassie G — Google review
The store offers a good selection of different type of food. Saucisson de Lyon Brioché is one of my favourites. We arrived a bit late and thought the stores won’t close until 4pm but most stores closed before 3pm. So we didn’t get chance to explore more and rushed to pick a few items and left. The few items we picked turned out to be a bit pricey comparing to hotel’s buffet breakfast. There is a lot of paid parking available and the parking fee is quite reasonable. Will I come back again next time in Lyon? Maybe.
Joyce L — Google review
Fantastic market with many providers of fine French food. We had a petit dejeuner at La Fer and it was very nice. Pastry came later. Not too crowded early, but the vibe much better later in the day.
Ross — Google review
It’s designed mostly for tourists. Working hours: by 1pm a lot of places were closed. I personally would recommend getting oysters (I also loved their Bullot) at Maison Pupier (Oyster bar) with better prices (you can even order 1 of each oyster kind) and service compared to Chez Antonin (where I got a rude waitress with super expensive oysters that don’t even taste good). Another recommendation is to get lyonnaise delicacy - red praliné tart at Seve (yes it’s expensive).

Brasserie Georges, also known as BG or Le Georges, is a historic landmark in Lyon that has been serving traditional Lyonnaise cuisine and brewing its own beer since 1836. Founded by Alsatian Georges Hoffherr, it has become the largest brasserie in the city and a local institution. The restaurant's vast art deco dining room has hosted literary greats such as Paul Verlaine, Jules Verne, and Emile Zola.
If you're looking for a truly local experience in Lyon, with delicious food that offers great value for money, then Brasserie Georges is the place to go! This is a wonderful institution in Lyon that you absolutely must experience. The atmosphere is fantastic, making for dining experience. The service was also top-notch, attentive and friendly. But the real star of the show is the tasty food! Every dish we tried was prepared very well, bursting with rich and delicious flavours. And be warned – the portion sizes are very generous, so come hungry! The toilets are separate and very clean. Also toilet for disabilities people is available! Highly recommended!

A classic Lyon experience — with great food and warm service! We were greeted with a friendly reception, and the service throughout was excellent professional yet welcoming. We arrived just after 1:30 PM, which turned out to be a smart move, as the restaurant wasn’t crowded and we avoided the usual queue. The food was really good overall. The beef tartare was especially delicious, though quite rich and filling easily enough for two people. We ended the meal with a dessert that looked like a baked Alaska and it was absolutely yummy! A great place to enjoy traditional dishes in a beautiful, historic setting.

The hotel is right next to one of the oldest restaurants in Lyon still operating – Brasserie George Lyon, established in 1836. A MUST-VISIT, always among the top spots. People are constantly coming and going, the place is packed, and just watching how well it sells is amazing. QUENELLE – €18.75 (~560k VND) Tastes like a fluffy fish cake, but the sauce is similar to the crab pasta sauce at Pizza 4P’s – absolutely delicious. In fact, this dish is made from fish, eggs, flour, and cream. RAUERS DE PORC – €18.5 (~550k VND) The flavor, along with the tender pork pieces with a bit of fat, tastes almost 90% like Vietnamese thịt kho tàu (braised pork). The difference is the thickened sauce – very tasty.
Wenny H — Google review
I thought it would be some tourist place. No waaaaay. Brasserie, that works from 1863! We took 2 menus (we are tourists, cmm’n:) All plates were really tasty. Black sausage is 🔥, butternut soup and Ille flottante for desert - all Reilly delicious. Recommending you to stop here for a lunch o dinner with no rush.

A traditional Brasserie and a great experience to go there. Food is absolutely delicious. Service is good. It’s just very noisy, but this comes with the concept. Lots of birthday songs were played loud and there even was a band playing. So it’s kind of a party atmosphere, but nice and entertaining. You should defenately book a table in advance. We reserved a table, but had to wait like 20 minutes at the bar.
Niklas S — Google review
Service was really really terrible. Sat around and waited a very long time to order. Water didn't come out till after the appetizer. Tried to ask someone else for some and they just forgot? Seems like they were really short staffed. My poor waiter was running around like crazy. It was fun trying lyonnaise cuisine! I got the escargot and the pork and pistachio sausage. It's also a cool dining room. The setup is interesting! There's fun art and the birthday song with the little crank organ is cute. So many people celebrating birthdays lmao
Collin — Google review
Amazing place, it is run like a well-oiled machine. Don't go before 15h or you will spend 2 hours in a lineup. We made that rookie mistake but it was ok, we toughed it out. We each ordered onion soup à gratin, and it was exactly what we wanted. I would forego the egg in port that the waiter poured in our soup, it tasted a touch too wine-y for my taste, but I appreciated the flair. All in all a fun experience, a good memory.
Maria C — Google review
Brasserie with a long history, and where famous people like Hemingway, had dined. The size and the design of the place is impressive. I liked how they prepared the Tartar (they ask beforehand if you want it spicy) - they mix in front of you. Their bread is delicious. The only disappointment was the main dish - pork rack. It was too dry and not hot. You can also come for late lunch to avoid the crowds - good thing they don’t close between 2 and 7.

Daniel et Denise Créqui - Bouchon Lyonnais offers a quintessentially French dining experience, whether you choose to dine on the bustling outdoor terrace or inside the charming beamed interior. The bistro's red-and-white checked tablecloths set the stage for a five-course tasting menu featuring classic dishes like foie gras and sweetbread pate in pastry crust, and Lyonnais pike-perch quenelles in crayfish sauce, paired with regional wines.
I have absolutely no words for this... We went there a few months ago and waiting for about 30ish minutes even with a reservation. The wait was absolutely worth it! We were 2 people and had been eating our way around Lyon. We opted to just have a main course that already comes with an incredible Mac and Cheese like dish as well as some incredibly crispy roasted potatoes. I saw someone having the lamb and instantly knew that that's what I wanted. It's meant to feed 2 people, but between that and the side dishes, it could honestly have fed 3 people... The lamb fell apart. It was tender, flavourful, succulent and just mind-blowing in my opinion... One the the owners walked in and asked if we were having a good time. I froze, looked her dead in the eyes and said: "I think I could cry right now". She gave me a pat on the shoulder and we laughed about how food can make people feel. I genuinely recommend you give it a try if you're in town.

5-star experience in Lyon! The atmosphere is welcoming, service attentive, and the food outstanding. The poultry with morels is simply unforgettable — rich, flavorful, and a true must-try dish. Highly recommend this place if you’re in Lyon.
Georgii S — Google review
The Le Pâté en croûte is amazing! In the La Cervelle de veau, I think the flavor is nice but the steel container gives a iron-blood smell, which is not appealing to me. La tête de veau cuite au court bouillon is very nice with different texture of meat and full of meat flavour. I personally think it might be even better with some extra spicy leaves or herbs. Because then, there is some impactful feeling in addition to the long while modest meat flavour.
Zhihan J — Google review
We were late to the reservation, and was in a hurry to the train. However , everyone in the restaurant was extremely nice and friendly, providing high quality food. It’s really been a pleasure dining at Daniel et Denise!

Michelin star rated restaurant. The food was very delicacy, and high quality. The location was in the center of the old town. The staff are very attentive and friendly.
โตโต้ พ — Google review
Myself & my work colleague ended up here after failing to get into a few other restaurants in the area. Although we didn't have a reservation, they managed to find us a table immediately. The service was absolutely impeccable, with waiting staff who spoke really good English and explained each of the dishes to us, in addition to recommending appropriate wines. And the food - my goodness. The tournedos rotaille (chicken with morels) was a thing of absolute beauty - I could easily have eaten it again if I'd had space for it; it really was THAT good. Unfortunately I'm unlikely to be back in Lyon again for work, but if I ever visit as a tourist, I'll definitely be coming back to this restaurant.
Darren A — Google review
The food was like a feast. For entree we chose pate en croute and lyonnaise salad. Pate en croute was really nice and the oignon sauce was on point. For the main courses, we ate the most tender and balanced meats. And all the dishes come with a crispy potato and gratin with duck fat, they were a nice touch of a side. For the dessert, the creme brule was really light and nicely presented. I tried la Baba, and if you like alcoholic desserts, you should try it. The cream was fresh and the cake was full of cognac, really nice. The waiter was so nice and polite, she helped me with my broken french. And the timing of the dishes was on point also. Full of local people also so you should try this experience in Lyon with superb food.
Eda G — Google review
The service staff is extremely accommodating even though we came late as walk-ins. The food is amazing and they even recommended the wine pairing for our appetizer and mains. The Holstein beef fillet in cognac sauce is particularly spectacular. Definitely a must try if you’re visiting Lyon.

Café Comptoir Abel is a historic establishment in Lyon, boasting vintage decor and a rich culinary tradition. The restaurant, which has been around for about 400 years, is renowned for its classic dishes such as oven-cooked pike quenelle and salade lyonnaise. The charming ambiance features simple wooden tables, wood-panel dining rooms adorned with quirky art, and an array of carefully curated details.
Yummy chicken with morels, needed some salt which was no problem but the rich, creamy flavours were spot on. The rice was my favourite though! Buttery and cooked to perfection. Cool, old ambiance as well!

Possibly had a bad night. Arrived for our reservation and the restaurant was nearly empty. They walked us to the back room and into a drafty corner with a wobbly sloped table despite other tables being available. Our server was not good and it wasn’t the language barrier. The food runners were wonderful, taking time to talk to us, check on us. But I had to go into the middle kitchen section to ask for refills of rice and bread. Our server checked on other tables multiple times but not once with us. Only when our table was fully cleared did we manage to get more water. It really sucked because the food was really good but for the price it was not a pleasant experience. We just wanted to eat and leave. Had the beef with morels and the chicken with supreme sauce. Both were good and filling. The rice was delicious. Food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. Restaurant was 40% full around 8:45 on a Friday when we left.

Perfect place to have your lunch. The food is incredible. We ordered two menu sets and everything was delicious. The service is excellent. We love also the atmosphere - typical old building with its own charm. Brings you in the old times Overall, highly recommended!

I can’t think of a worse fate than to be a restaurant recommended by Anthony Bourdain. Every one I’ve been to has been of good quality but overwhelmed. (This will be my last.) My meal tonight was correct but the waiter was covering too many tables. She did her best but my experience was frustrating. So, feel free to eat here. The food is good, but be forewarned.

Here you can find authentic french household cuisine. One of the waitress was not very nice hance the 3 stars. As for atmosphere it has lots of vintage decorations.

Great place for typical fare. Keep in mind the main courses are quite large. Andouillette, pate en croute, and lentils were good choices to sample local dishes. Service was surprisingly good. Not a tourist trap - would recommend to a friend

A standout meal of our trip. The NICEST server and was so kind to us even though we only knew English. All of the food was outstanding and the wine list was great! 10/10 would eat here again. The foie gras was JUST right.
Nick D — Google review
Oldest bouchon in Lyon, with great classic food that feels like it was made in the 1800s. IMPORTANT, they stopped serving tap beer, and they only have bottles, which is super dissapointing and our server didn't know if there was salad with the Tartar. Otherwise a great experience and worth trying if you are on vacation.

Le Café Des Fédérations is a classic Lyonnaise restaurant located on Rue Major Martin, near the Museum of Fine Art. It offers fixed-price menu options and house wine in a lively, wood-paneled space. Known for its traditional meals, it was once famous for its rude waiters but has since gained renown for its authentic cuisine. The restaurant is among the most well-established and authentic bouchons in Lyon, preserving popular cuisine while accommodating modern tastes.
BEST experience of authentic Lyonnaise food. Our food tour guide recommend it so we knew it would be good but we thought it was excellent. They serve you so much good food-- see pics! The atmosphere is cozy and you feel transported back in time in a way, very old World vibes. Service was terrific. Each course well timed but not rushed. It's a preset menu but you make an entree and dessert choice from a selection. My husband and I spent a week in Lyon and this was one of our favorite meals. Definitely recommend, especially if you're from outside of France. Bouchons are unique to Lyon and this is a perfect place to taste the unique cuisine.
Ann-Marie — Google review
It didn’t work out for us for several reasons. We had high hopes for the places as it came highly recommended and made reservations for our first dinner in Lyon. The places did look extremely busy on a Saturday night, and patronized by both tourists and locals. We are by no means familiar with Lyon cuisine but every single dish was underwhelming and lacking in both flavor, dept and execution, as if operating on autopilot once they decided to sleep on their laurel. The course menu with option for entree and appetizer was limited ,and I would call it lazy. Many dished felt respective as in offering the same flavor profile, using the very same sauce with just a few tweaks. Looking from other reviewers pictures, seems like they've been serving the very same, albeit traditional local cuisine, dishes for ages.
Random G — Google review
A place that has a great traditional vibe and good food. A couple tables available for lunch for single or couple. Bigger groups need to reserve. Here's what I had: Smoked herring: Truly delish and great smoky flavour. The potato is so good... what species is this ? Yummy. Veal's head: Prepared traditionally and presented beautifully (without brain). I felt despite the great texture, it is rather bland. I think an enriched broth, more salty and with stronger herby flavour would improve the dish although it will depart from the traditional style. The sauce, which was very good sort of carry the dish.
Lance C — Google review
Very vintage restaurant with authentic Lyon style dishes. Very great place as its value for money, the proportion of the food they offer can definitely satisfy you without doubt. Reminder to make a reservation!

Nice, hearty food that was perfect after a long day of travel. The quenelle (the first I've ever had) was delicious, and the decor in the restaurant was adorable. My only issue is that the service was a bit rushed (uncharacteristic for meals I've previously had in France) and they forgot to serve us the cheese course that we paid for (we actually didn't realize until we had paid and left that we were supposed to get that with our meal). But overall, it was a satisfying and welcome first meal in Lyon.
Cheryl — Google review
Great bouchon with friendly service and wonderful food. Middle of the road amongst the bouchons as far as price goes, but I found the food to be above average, the service wonderful, and the ambiance was very fun. I was impressed by how well they handled a large group of 20 something seated next to me without lowering the quality of service for everyone else.
Dylan L — Google review
We ate lunch here and thought this place was wonderful. I see other reviews nitpicking minutiae and missing the big picture. If you want authentic local cuisine in an authentic local restaurant come here to eat. They have been serving food here for over a hundred years. The menu is local Lyonnaise. It is a small restaurant with a ton of atmosphere. If you want haute cuisine then go somewhere else. I loved this place.
Eric S — Google review
The positive first: Nice atmosphere, we were a big group of more than 30 prople and got the extra room which was cosy and gave us some privacy. The waitress was lovely and was always smily, even if she had difficult job with so many people. Some dishes were tasty, like the fish, even if nothing was great. Good price (34 euro plus drinks) considering we had 6 courses. The negative: mainly the food. Like i said above, nothing was really bad but most of the dishes lacked depth. Some people got saucage in more than one course. All in all a decent choice if you are a group, not many places can accomodate big groups in such a professional way. However, i would not choose this restaurant if we were just two people wanting to try a good level of Lyonaise cuisine. A tip: ditch a course or two and do small imporovements on quality of the rest.

Le Bouchon des Cordeliers is a vibrant and traditional restaurant in Lyon, offering locally sourced French cuisine and wine. Situated near Comptoir Brunet, it presents a modern twist on classic dishes while maintaining the charm of old-school Bouchons. The restaurant's interior combines modern elements with traditional touches, reflecting its innovative take on local culinary traditions.
Fabulous food. L’ouef en meurette was sensational. The quennelle with the bisque was very good and the Rhum Baba was excellent. Special mention to the Praline Tart; second best we’ve had in Lyon and comfortably better than 3rd place!

A nice restaurant serving local fare. About €20 per main with the option to have a set at €32 which includes an additional starter and dessert – essentially you're getting a dessert for free with the set, since the starters average about €12. Fantastic food that was bursting with flavour, and we ordered a variety to share. An easy first place would be the pork tenderloin, which was tasty and multi-layered in flavour. The food can take quite a while to arrive however, which may also just be a norm based on local culture.

Update: I went back to this restaurant two weeks after my first visit and I am completely blown away. The food, the service, the drinks...seriously, everything was on point. I had only eaten there once before but the staff remembered me. They even brought a bowl of water for my dog and offered her her own plate of rosette. For sure this restaurant is going into my rotation of places to eat on a regular basis. How are you supposed to rate the service at a restaurant ? Is it based on how quickly and correctly your order is brought to the table? Is it how you're treated by the servers? Is it how well you're taken care of by the staff? I was unsure how many stars to give this restaurant. While the food was amazing, the staff delivered our appetizers to the wrong table. And although they fixed their error for that table, they neglected the imact it had on our orders. When I told our server that we hadn't yet received our appetizers (one hour after we were seated), the mistake was acknowledged and we were offered a glass of complimentary champagne for the trouble. Making mistakes is human; nobody is perfect. I really appreciated the staff's efforts even though our meal ran a little longer than anticipated because of the error with the appetizers. But I appreciate the staff owning up to the error and addressing it in the best manner they could. Hopefully my next visit to this restaurant will go much more smoothly.

It's best to make a reservation. I'm so glad I discovered this restaurant. The staff are so wonderful and the food is very delicious. It's a sophisticated bouchon. I'd love to return someday. Thank you so much for all the staff.

Overall very delicious food and very good service! I had the snails, the bone marrow and clafouti (desert). The desert wasn’t anything special but everything else was very good. It’s a lot of food for one person tho, it’s better to have someone to share with

The food was nice. However, the staff were a bit sarcastic and we were scared to ask a question. Our food also arrived really late, which we thought they almost forgot about us.

We had a very enjoyable lunch today at Le Bouchon des Cordeliers. Our server Alain was very helpful. He seated us quickly and explained the menu as well as providing us with excellent menu recommendations. The atmosphere created by Alain and the staff made us most comfortable. My wife and enjoyed our meal immensely. I had the Quenelle and my wife had the Vegetable plate. Both were excellently prepared especially the sauce with the Quenelle. We would highly recommend this Bouchon for a traditional Lyonaise meal perfectly done.

Located in the Villa Florentine hotel, Les Terrasses de Lyon offers a fine dining experience with its glass roof and stunning city views. The restaurant's atmosphere is described as simple yet elegant, providing a welcoming ambiance that guests will cherish. Nestled on the heights of Fourviere hill, it combines tranquility and luxury with breathtaking views of the Saint-Jean Cathedral.
A wonderful cuisine for a wonderful view, in a wonderful setting. Exceptional food (asparagus and Rouget.) Very interesting choice of wines, with great advice. Be sure to book early to secure the seats near the veranda. Service is welcoming and friendly.

We went on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full. The ambience was a little bit too formal for me, kind of old money style. Al the waiting staff wearing suits and ties… Also you could not see the view of Lyon as the glass windows reflected the lights from the restaurant. That was disappointing for me Maybe it would be better to go during daylight. The food was amazing and the quantity was pretty decent too. We got the 130€ menu and the 70€ one. Overall it’s a good restaurant to go for the food and not the views.
Ed B — Google review
Great view, decent food (nothing mind-blowing though for the price), great wines. However service was VERY slow. We had a 6 course menu and it took 3.5 hours (!) from the moment we arrived till we could leave.
Benedikt G — Google review
The restaurant was terribly understaffed, the atmosphere was loud and chaotic. The staff was inattentive (beyond what one comes to expect in a France). There They often left food lying around on furniture and partitions for long periods of time before serving off temperature. There was no set wine pairing. For three to dine on the 4 course menu we were there for 4 hours with large gaps between courses. The wait staff tended to gather in the entry way conspicuously spending a large amount of time jesting and interacting with the POS system on their phones. We were not offered digestif. Would not recommend. Cannot understand how this place obtained a Michelin star. Very disappointed to have been lead astray.

The service was super slow. Had to ask several times for our drink order. No olives for a martini. You need a great set of teeth to eat the meat! Atmosphere was very nice.

Nice place! Terrific view over the city. Nicely decorated dining room with ample space between the tables for privacy. Smooth and efficient service, food of course excellent at a good price point. Great location!

There are actually 3 restaurants: terrasse, restaurant, bistro Terrasse is on the roof, open to the wind, and has a great view. Good food, good cocktails. Entrance is through the bistro, then take elevator up. Restaurant is one floor below but indoor with glass windows. 1 Michelin star. Entrance is uphill. Bistro is bottom floor. No view. Entrance is downhill. Management should really make all this more clear on their website and better signs.

we had a really lovely evening ordering the tasting menu and a bottle of bubbles at the somm’s recommendation. all of the dishes were thoughtful, creative, and well executed (the onion foam and the quenelle were standouts). the service was friendly, very team oriented. the dining room has a quiet, soft lit ambience, with enough energy to be exciting but subdued enough to feel private.

Le Garet, located at 7 rue du Garet near Lyon City Hall, offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere in its cozy and cluttered space. It's popular with locals for its rustic food and helpful staff, so booking a reservation in advance is recommended. The menu features traditional Lyonnais classics like calfs head, chitterlings, tripe, and dumplings.
This is about as much Frenchness as you can shake a stick at. You’re in the heart of Lyon’s French Resistance movement of WW2, the venue frequented by Jean Moulin, and you have on offer truly traditional French cuisine deliciously cooked, generous portions and served by the warmly welcoming but very busy staff.

Traditional Lyon cuisine that is hard to find and very comforting if you’re open to it. I tried the veal head which was succulent and tender, cooked to perfection. Portions are a good size so save room for deserts. Chef was friendly and helpful throughout the experience. Atmosphere is homely. We ate quite a lot there and you probably can’t go wrong with their specials and standard menu. Recommended to make a reservation. Places like this need to be treasured while they are still around.

A bouchon is a traditional Lyonnais restaurant known for serving hearty local dishes in a convivial atmosphere. The term “bouchon” originates from 16th-century inns frequented by silk workers, where a bundle of straw (bouchon) hung outside signified a place to eat and drink. Salade de cochonnailles is a rustic Lyonnais dish built around the region’s deep tradition of pork butchery. The word cochonnaille refers to assorted cold pork products—saucisson, jambon persillé, pâté, rillettes—all sliced and served over a bed of greens. Here they serve the salade de cochonnailles in large communal bowls, and you’re simply invited to help yourself—no limits.

Great food, great service! We noticed a few parties waiting before the restaurant opened, but we went in and asked for a table for two. The lady who welcomed us (possibly the owner) was so kind and accommodating. We were seated right away without a reservation. We ordered the grilled steak and beef cheek, and both were incredibly flavorful and juicy. We enjoyed every bite! It was a wonderful meal overall, and we highly recommend it if you are in the area!

Just had another visit here tonight, the last one being 5 years ago. Still amazing. Not your cliche bouchon… the staff are convivial and helpful despite being busy. The food is amazing - absolutely authentic and uncompromising. Not an escargot in sight (and that’s a wonderful thing). We had a fun bottle of regional wine made by the chef: ask for it. Make a reservation and don’t mind where they seat you. Thats not the point.

This eco-conscious restaurant showcases seasonal and local ingredients, creating tasting menus that are as delightful to the palate as they are visually stunning. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The food was truly exceptional. The open kitchen design is unique and makes you feel entertained as they craft and plate each course. As our first Michelin star restaurant we were stunned with how exceptional each course was. The wine pairing is also truly unique experience. It utilises truly unique wines and flavours to make incredible pairings. It is well worth including. They asked us for a cocktail aperitif which wasn’t included. And the wine pairing started after the appetisers.

Terrific dining experience. We did the 6-course tasting with wine pairings and were blown away. Note that the 6 courses didn’t include 3 amuse-bouches that start every meal, meaning we were absolutely stuffed after practically 9 courses of food. Highlights for us were the 36 hour tomato and stuffed courgette flower, especially with the wine pairings. The wine complimented or contrasted the dishes in perfect ways, either balancing sweeter courses or tempering more acidic courses. For a fine dining restaurant in Lyon, it offered very good value for money, especially with the wine pairings. Note a couple of the photos were taken after we had tampered with the plating (or the goat cheese ice cream had started to melt); everything came out pristine.
Kevin M — Google review
Fantastic service from the waiters, with detailed descriptions of each dish. The sommelier selected wines with real expertise, sometimes making atypical choices that paired beautifully with the food. The food was delicious, well thought out, and visually mesmerising, representing the very best the region has to offer. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, complemented by a calming, minimal design.

I had a mostly wonderful experience at the restaurant — the atmosphere was elegant, the service impeccable, and the quality of most dishes truly outstanding. However, I was disappointed by one particular dish: the meat served with mushrooms contained visible worms (I found at least three), which made it impossible to finish. This unfortunate incident significantly affected an otherwise excellent meal.

On a scale of 1 to ten, just about everything was an 11. Even by French standards, we didn't realize that food could taste this good. This restaurant has an open kitchen, and it was a pleasure to watch the team work together to create each course. We selected the wine pairing menu, which was fascinating each wine, some of which were unusual, enhanced each course.

It was amazing. A highlight of my trip to Lyon. The food was varied, artistic and tasted amazing. All in all we had 13 unique dishes that each felt like a one of a kind experience. Each dish came with in depth explanations and we had a wine pairing which in depth described the wine and how it related to the dish. Everything felt like it had so much intention and thought behind it. With the kitchen in the middle of restaurant you are able to see the care behind how they operate and the energy the chefs bring to the experience. It felt like more than a meal and every person who you interact with takes great care regarding your experience. A nice touch I felt was the hand made stoneware from local female artists which are used for all of their plates, bowls, mugs and more.

From the outside this is pretty unassuming. We weren't even sure it was open. There were some other diners who looked equally unsure, until someone took the plunge and walked in, and the rest of us followed them. Once inside we were sat right next to the open kitchen, where it was a well-oiled machine of chefs quietly and meticulously getting on with things. The dishes were all amazing, looked great and well presented. 3 delicate amuses-bouche to start with. Then the meal itself; 3 vegetarian dishes (or at least the vegetable was the star of the show), one meat, one fish, and 3 desserts. Then petits-fours. All great.

The restaurant is part of a culinary empire that includes brasseries, a food market called Les Halles Paul Bocuse, and cooking schools. Visitors can also admire murals dedicated to the chef in Lyon. The restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with traditional French cuisine and has earned three Michelin stars.
This was honestly the best meal experience I’ve ever had! We went to L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges as an optional excursion on our river cruise with six fellow travelers, and it totally blew us away. The menu was a chef’s tasting (prix fixe), so every course was a surprise: foie gras, lobster and pikeperch, fillet of beef, a big cheese selection, and two amazing desserts. Everything tasted incredible, and the service was friendly and attentive without being over the top. We spent about three hours at the table, just enjoying the food, the company, and the atmosphere. The portions were generous-we actually didn’t eat anything again for 24 hours because we wanted to keep savoring the whole experience. If you love classic French cuisine and get the chance to eat here, don’t miss it. It absolutely lives up to its reputation!

An interesting experience from a review perspective. No doubt this was a five star experience. But there were errors. It feels slightly churlish to lead with the negative but let’s get them out of the way. The bread was burnt on the base, and even forgiving that, was not great and would have benefitted from being warmed through. The butter also was forgettable. The amuse bouches were good, not great. And the sommelier forgot to serve the glasses we ordered so the starters arrived before the wine. But these were small things. The food proper - we ordered from the a la carte menu - was mostly spectacular. The langoustine raviolo with sorrel sauce was wonderful. The lobster salad starter with caviar was good (the caviar v good) but the langoustine was better. The mains were where we really started doing the happy dance in our seats. We had the chicken and the bbq-d lobster. The lobster arrived sizzling on a hot stone, the aroma of charred lobster filling the dining room. It was theatrical, fun, and tasted of smoky heaven. The chicken came poached with an amazing sauce, dotted with beautifully cooked morelles. It’s one of their signature dishes and you can see why. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and supper. Desserts come presented at the table for you to choose from, which is a lovely experience. The staff were great - so friendly and welcoming. Happy to chat but discreet, striking a great balance. I don’t know if I mistakenly ticked a box saying it was one of our birthdays (it was a few weeks from our anniversary?), but they did a lovely rendition of happy birthday and the rest of the restaurant applauded generously while my wife and I tried to burrow into our chairs. And then we both tried to blow out the candle because we weren’t sure whose birthday it was meant to be. Anyway, this is all a bit rambling… most importantly we loved the experience, loved the food, thought the staff did a wonderful job and little touches like the birthday candle (even if it was unmerited!), sorting our cab seamlessly, and giving us a souvenir menu to take home all added up to a truly memorable and delightful evening which I don’t think we’ll forget. Thank you xx

An institution of French cuisine, this restaurant delivers an experience of remarkable generosity and charm. From the warm welcome to the unhurried pace of service, guests are encouraged to take their time and savor every detail. The dining room exudes tradition, and the team’s attentiveness ensures a refined yet approachable atmosphere. The food is elegant and deeply rooted in classic recipes, with flavors that are researched but remain clear and simple. A highlight is the series of trolleys, from cheese to desserts, offering an abundance of choice and allowing guests to indulge as much as they wish, a gesture that feels both luxurious and rare today. While a few details could be polished, such as clearer introductions to the menus when seated, the overall experience is memorable. This is a place for those who wish to enjoy French gastronomy at its most authentic. Congratulation and merci.

11/10 experience with severe food allergies. Incredible! All of the other reviews detailing the excellent service, quality food, and wonderful experience are accurate. This is quite possibly the best restaurant in the world. I want to make a special note about how accommodating the entire staff was regarding my very severe tree nut allergy. (Especially after experiencing a near death experience dining at another Michelin location in Italy two weeks prior.) We wrote about my allergy on the reservation. They sent a reservation confirmation email AND an email regarding my allergy. Great practice. This made me feel acknowledged and safe. Upon arrival, I didn't have to tell a single person about my allergy. The server told me he knew about my allergy and so did the kitchen. I could have cried from joy. This is a very small gesture but for people with severe allergies is incredibly kind and appreciated. They accomdated all dishes, explained to me which dishes were made without nuts so my partner could still try the dishes as is, and provided alternative dessert options. The last little cherry on top was that they brought me fruit candies as an alternative to the chocolate box at the end of the meal. Thank you 🙏 Also wanted to note that the wine list is HUGE and the pairing suggestions were truly excellent. Coravin options for international wines. 🫶

We had a lovely meal and were so excited to try the cuisine of the legend himself. However, we were caught by surprise when the waiter asked us for a tip. When I obliged, and he handed me the credit card machine that already had 2 amounts for tips to select - €25 and €40. As he was hovering over me, I had no choice but to choose between the 2 options. It was only upon hindsight and further research later on that I realised that this was not normal in French culture. It was disappointing that what was otherwise a fantastic meal and great experience was tarnished by the final act of a single waiter who took advantage of the fact that we were clearly tourists.

There were 10 of us celebrating a birthday and wanted a super special experience. So we went to Paul Bocuse. We selected Menu option 2 to facilitate as we were told we had to select in advance. Food was good and everyone was pleased. Foie Gras was particularly exceptional. Beef Wellington was just perfect. The SNOOTY Som ruined the evening for us as he was extremely arrogant and unbending on our choice of wine and the way it was to be served. The wine needed to be decanted to open up to drink. However, he poured the wine directly from the magnum bottle. It was not good and some of us objected to the quality of wine. The Som insisted it was just fine. He then left not to be seen again. We had to pour the rest of the wine ourselves- no issues if you are dining in a regular restaurant but not when you are paying $300 for a bottle of wine. The other issue was that we had about 12 different waiters that came and went with no consistency. Did I say the bread was cold and the butter had no salt?! This was the second time my wife and I dined at Paul Bocuse in the last 5 years. The quality of service is forgotten. I don’t think Paul would have been happy to see what is going on here!!!

We, as guests, may never be in the rightful position to assign a score from 1 to 5—for how could we truly grasp the immense challenges, the tireless dedication, and the quiet strength required to sustain the grace, excellence, and soul of this magnificent establishment in Lyon? Preserving the very essence of what Monsieur Paul envisioned—his unwavering devotion to flavor, precision, and beauty—is not something one can simply measure. And yet, with all humility and admiration, I offer the highest praise I can, as a gesture of heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to those who continue to carry this legacy forward with such passion and reverence.

What an experience! Get ready to share the food and the table with others, its like a big family eating together passing the food starters and desserts. You only ask for the main dish and they take care of the rest, (prepare to eat a lot). Reservation is needed, its a small place but in a cozy way.

We were surprised that 2 girls were asked to sit on the table right beside us. My husband assumed that the place had plenty reservations- we ended the meal and the place was still empty - Why then were we squeezed in together. It was awkward at first but we were glad that the ladies beside us were nice. I guess the feeling should be like a family sitting together and sharing a meal. If the place was packed, I would understand but we only had 3 tables with people . It was weird and awkward. It would have been a better feeling if the food was great to compensate but… The appetizers were interesting and some were actually good like the beet roots and potatoes. But the mains were very disappointing. I had the tongue - it was soft but the sauce was underwhelming. We also had the Pan fried Beef Tripe with breadcrumbs - also underwhelming. For dessert Steve’s apples in red wine. I opted out for dessert. For drinks, we were served currant wine for starters - that was good - and after, we had wine (not good).

Incredible dining experience, I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough! A must visit while in Lyon. The food was phenomenal but the atmosphere and the experience of the place made this one of the culinary highlights of our trip. La Mère Brazier is an elegant restaurant in Lyon, known for its regional haute cuisine and tasting menus. The restaurant holds a legendary status as it was once the space of Eugenie Brazier, a pioneer of nouvelle cuisine and the first woman to earn three Michelin stars in 1933. Today, the renowned chef Mathieu Viannay pays homage to Brazier by offering a menu that combines modern cuisine with reimagined versions of her classic recipes.
What a wonderful restaurant filled with charm and character, perfect to match the excellent food. Was in Lyon for one night and decided I would try my luck as a solo diner to get a Reso here which I was lucky to! When I arrived I was kindly greeted by the team and shown to my seat, which was tucked away in the main dining room. It did feel a little stark, not a ton of vibe I’d say with no music, perfectly pressed white table clothes, teacup chairs, but the details of the wallpaper, lights, and building itself lent me enough to appreciate. The food itself was outstanding. I did the classic Eugenie Brazier menu with wine pairing and left full, satisfied, and appreciative of the skill level displayed. The soft shell crab. Artichoke Foie gras. The scallops, oh.. MY GOD, maybe a top 3 dish I’ve ever had. The stuffed cabbage, never had anything like it. The grand marnier soufflé. Perfect! Beyond that, it was truly the kindness of the team and staff as a whole that made the experience so lovely. As a solo diner in a **two** Michelin resto, it’s easy to feel out of place, forgotten about, or left out. I felt like I received extra attention and care, and was treated with the utmost respect. Thanks so much to the whole team. I’ve eaten at amazing restos all over the world, and I’ve never written a review this long so that says a lot. GO HERE. Enjoy it!!

Extraordinary by any measure. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Every course was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat. Artistry and food held hands. The wine choices were surprising, yet flawless. The service was sophisticated and welcoming. There were many surprises throughout the meal. Hats off to the Chef for taking this Lyonnais institution to the next level.

I had a very pleasant lunch at Mere Brazier. The food was exquisite, from the spider crab caviar dish to the bread with the most incredible salted butter (something so simple yet few restaurants get it right), the smoked haddock mousse to the Quenelle. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Service was great too. My only complaint was the Grand Marnier soufflé sides. The ice cream genuinely tasted like soap 😏 please stick to plain vanilla, the ice cream was not nice

The food at La Mere Brazier was very good. The service was definitely not two star Michelin service and if they keep it up they’ll never get a third and in fact may lose their second ! My glass was empty more than it was full. My wife had to fill the water for both of us several times. I asked for a check by the end of night as I was nearly falling asleep 4 times. After waiting :20 I got up to pay it so we could leave … Great food (see photos) Awful service

Category: Fine Dining. Our wonderful concierge, Francois at the Villa Maia Hotel (see my separate review) recommended this Michelin 2 Star. We don’t usually hunt for stars but we trusted his judgment and he didn’t steer us wrong. The name means “Mother Brazier” after its founder, chef Eugenie Brazier, who went to the Eternal Kitchen in 1977 but is famous for being the first person awarded six Michelin stars, three each at two restaurants. Upon arrival, we were politely ushered into the original, elegant dining room, which now has only four tables, the service bar, and a trophy case for the restaurant’s many awards, including several Michelin Man statuettes. Although the menu offers a wine pairing option, we started by ordering a bottle of red wine from Provence (where we just spent a week) from the extensive wine list. Despite the high level of this restaurant, we were happy to see some economically priced bottles on the list (we don’t like to spend much much money on restaurant wine). We each ordered one of the two 5-course tasting menus, which allowed us to sample almost everything the kitchen produces. The menu probably changes with the seasons (or more frequently), so I’ll mention only highlights (see the photos for more details). The first was the generous amuse bouche of creamed corn, haddock, and crunchy corn bits. Delicious. And it could have counted as the sixth course. We were also blown away by the incredibly tasty spider crab 🦀 and sea crab emulsion with Ossetra caviar. It’s plating was also spectacular. Another highlight was the Artichoke and Foie Gras Tribute to Mere Brazier. I’ve enjoyed many foie gras pates on this trip and others; this was the best. Although usually paired with a sweet sauce or compote, this foie was paired with artichoke. Perfect. The line-caught pollack was also excellent, but I mention it also because the wine pairing paired it with Japanese sake, specifically, a Junmai Kimoto. Inspired. Sake pairs more easily with food than does wine. The restaurant’s take on the ubiquitous local dish, quenelle, was also a highlight. In this incarnation it was a small, rectangular, crispy-topped portion in a beautiful Nantua (crayfish and/or lobster) sauce. Finally, I must highlight the Grand Marnier Soufflé. With most sweet soufflés, the server punches a hole in the top, through which is poured a sauce. No sauce here, which I thought was strange, at first. But the reason, apparently, is that the soufflé was so unbelievably light and airy that a sauce would have ruined the effect. Beyond excellent. Among the many off-menu pre-desserts and post desserts to which we were treated, we also enjoyed a glass of apricot wine, which our concierge said was a must. We had a great evening in this great restaurant, on the eve of our 25th anniversary. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice

We attended for a lunch service which offered a smaller menu at a reasonable price of €98. However, overall we were left a bit disappointed for our first experience at a two star Michelin restaurant in the foodie capital of France. While the lunch menu price might have been reasonable, the cost of the champagnes provided as an aperitif was not - at €24 each. We were not provided with a wine menu to choose the aperitif and while I expect to pay that much for a glass of champagne at a Michelin restaurant - I probably would have liked to have been warned first? Perhaps this is customary in such types of restaurants but after four glasses it left a slightly bitter taste in our mouths. If we were not concerned about cost we would have opted for the full dinner menu at 185 or 285 € (a price much more common for restaurants of this calibre). The cherry and foie gras entrée was quite good. But didn’t blow me away. The stand out dish for sure was the entree of spider and sea crab with caviar. This was 10/10. I found the other dishes - the monkfish and the amuse bouches to be good but nothing special. My partner enjoyed the beef sirloin, which was flavoursome. I was again disappointed with the souffle but astounded by its size. Personally, I think if it had been smaller it would have had more flavour. I can’t fault the service (besides my gripe about the champagne - which is perhaps just my mistake). The atmosphere was also nice. Though nothing special. I think if I was to return I would have the spider crab with caviar again but order the pressed chicken for which Mere Brazier is famous. I was also jealous of the cheese trolley. All up the experience cost about €360 (around $700 AUD at time of writing for those playing at home) for what was really four courses (appetiser, entree, main, dessert + two amuse bouches) four glasses of champagne and one small glass of wine. Again - I understand this to be the price point for Michelin 2 starred restaurants but I have had better experiences at bib gourmand elsewhere for half the price. Not bad but not a stand-out of our three month trip around Europe that was focussed almost exclusively on food and wine.

I will start by saying the service was impeccable. Every staff member was amazing, polite, hospitable, and made us feel welcome. They were the stars of the place. Also, the food was fantastic. Such interesting dishes, and the quality was world class. However. It took us 4 hours to get through the smaller tasting menu, about 5 courses. It should not take 4 hours, and made the end of our time in Lyon a bit disappointing as we were at times just sitting around waiting for the next course. I know kitchens get backed up, but that is not something I expect to experience at a world class restaurant. If you don't have early plans the next day, or are not in a rush, I recommend this place. But if you plan to try and get a good night's sleep after eating here, I wouldn't recommend.
Harding R — Google review
No wrong doings for the service staff cuz you can see them trying to pull this off. My nays are to the food cuz they’re just absolutely horrendous and bizarre. I’ve travelled to dozens of countries and this is the first time I wish I didn’t walk into the door. The desserts are fine (not exceptional as you would expect from a 2-star), but I must say that every other dish I had made me think “what the hell am I eating?” And “how soon can I just get the check and leave this place” I hope the chef can seriously reconsider continuing a cooking career in such a renowned establishment bearing 2 stars cuz this high price and god-forsaken food is beyond rescue. I seldom write reviews online but tonight I feel compelled to warn others off this place especially you’re trying to have a good experience in France and Lyon. Seriously find a pizzeria or a local bouchon you’ll be fine but coming here will make you traumatized like I am right now.

Les Fines Gueules is a charming eatery located in Lyons Croix-Rousse neighborhood, offering a delightful combination of rustic French cuisine and fine wines. The restaurant's raw stone walls create an inviting atmosphere for savoring traditional Lyonnais dishes made with fresh regional ingredients. With enthusiastic sommeliers ready to provide wine pairing suggestions, guests can indulge in specialties like quenelles, oeufs en meurette, and hearty Lyonnais sausages.
We had a wonderful 3 course meal here. Great gluten free options. You could have as many courses as you liked. I had poached egg in a red wine sauce with bacon and shallots to start, sausage and potatoes for main and cheese for pudding. They were very aware of allergies as well as coeliac and I felt very safe throughout. The wine was also delicious

A Sublime Taste Journey Through Southern France at LES FINES GUEULES During our recent family trip to Lyon—a city where gastronomy is not just a tradition but a way of life—we had the immense pleasure of dining at LES FINES GUEULES, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of the city. This restaurant is not only centrally located, making it incredibly accessible for both locals and visitors, but it also serves as a proud standard-bearer of traditional southern French cuisine, with a distinct and spectacular flair from the Lyonnaise terroir. From the moment we stepped inside, we were embraced by the warmth of the ambiance and the equally warm welcome from the staff. The service was nothing short of exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Our waiter took the time to guide us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations, pairing each suggestion with a brief, engaging story about its origin or preparation. Now, on to the main act—the food. Every dish that graced our table was a symphony of southern france As part of the esteemed Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises, LES FINES GUEULES is not merely endorsed—it is celebrated. And deservedly so. It offers an experience that transcends the plate, combining authentic regional flavor, culinary artistry, and heartfelt hospitality in equal measure. To anyone seeking an unforgettable taste of southern France, steeped in the culinary heritage of Lyon, LES FINES GUEULES is not just a recommendation—it’s a must. A restaurant where tradition is honored, and every dish tells a story.

Pleasantly surprised by the topnotch cuisine. The fish of the day was perfectly poached, with a curry twist, eggplants and potatoes, the best meal of our gastronomy tour of Lyon. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star! The patio seating was a tad noisy but the wonderful service and impressive dishes more than made up for this. Kudos to the chef!

We went here because we wanted to have the experience of an authentic Bouchon in Lyon but weren't very satisfied with it. The location is good in the old town, the place/ restaurant is very cute, full of details and nicely designed. The waitress was very friendly and kind and even spoke English (which is very rare i must add) and helped with any questions we had, but the food was not great, we couldn't even eat it, and didn't like it.

Slightly gruff service, 30-40 minute food wait. Good food but not amazing, overpriced Wine served by dropping bottle on table, no glass provided without asking… maybe it was an off night?
Shawn H — Google review
The food was very good — it’s honestly the only thing worth recommending. The service staff were quite nice, but the man at the door, likely the owner, seated all English-speaking customers upstairs. Guests near us also noticed and whispered about what felt like a bias toward non-locals. Also worth noting: alcohol prices were higher than usual for a restaurant of this type, which took away from the overall value.

Les plats étaient délicieux! The snails and the Pike Soufflé were delicious! And the wine was excellent too! The waiter was super friendly and we had the most wonderful time having lunch here. A cute spot away from the busy restaurants a little further down the street! Merci beaucoup!

Takao Takano is a sophisticated dining spot that offers an ever-changing menu featuring innovative seasonal dishes with a Japanese influence. The restaurant, located in the 6th arrondissement, has gained significant acclaim, earning two Michelin stars for its imaginative cuisine. Chef Takao Takano's background includes working as a sous chef to Nicholas Le Bec, and he brings his own unique style to the forefront at this warm and minimalist establishment.
French cuisine with great touch of Japanese favorite. Love everything during the meal, except when the dining room is full(although it’s small, may fit maximum 24 people?) a bit noisy … Definitely will return if visit Lyon again.

Wine pairing was decent. Food was very good. Pricing for extras aside from the dinner (wine, cheese, etc) felt too high and I would have liked to see those somewhere ahead of time so I could make an imformed decision about buying them.

A highly memorable meal we experienced tonight—from the cuisine execution to the knowledgeable front of house staff. They all made us English speakers feel comfortable and educated on each dish at a French style 2 Michelin star restaurant. The dishes had subtleties of Japanese fare, which we appreciated being intertwined into French fine dining. Takano Takao is an absolute must visit to add to your gastronomy tour in Lyon!

Very surprised of the 2 star Michelin rating. Intimate, small place with 8 tables seating 16 people. Looks nice and was expecting to be mind blown by the details, but it was far from it. Fish was nothing impressive. A different dish had sandy abalone. Lamb was very plain and did not taste like it. Pigeon was good, even though we asked for it from the less expensive menu. Bread was good, but still.. Staff did not feel extremely knowledgeable..

Must visit in Lyon. Two Michelin stars is well deserved. Exceptional service from our waiter who told us about the wines and food, even though we couldn't speak French. Every dish built upon themselves and everything was executed perfectly. Great wine list from whites to reds. Cheese cart to die for. Still dreaming of the fish and pigeon. Plus we got a copy of the menu for souvenir!

A beautiful experience where fine dining is at its best. The minimalistic decor is set off nicely with the warm lighting. The staff welcome you with bright smiles & make you feel at ease - with easy banter and a friendly manner. The menu is well explained and we were informed of the day’s special dish of veal kidneys (which we did try as a additional dish to the basic degustation menu for an additional Euro 20 per person). The Japanese chef excels in how he has combined the fineries of French cuisine with the pureness of Japanese cooking. Every dish was a sight to behold & combinations were quite complicated yet one could taste individually the various components. Definitely the chef knows his craft well & has placed alot of thought in how to serve them. It is difficult to point out a particularly special dish as each one was superb. We were being adventurous in adding the kidneys but for the faint hearted, it may not be recommended. Although tender with nice texture, the offal taste was a little overpowering & the centre fatty portion of kidney was served intact (we are used to eating kidneys of smaller animals where only the outer portion is finely sliced & fried). The portion was large & it was a bit of a struggle to finish this dish - but we did our best! Overall - we had a very nice experience & highly recommend this restaurant when in Lyon. A nice gesture, as we were unable to finish our petit fours & madelines at the end, they made a little take away bag for this. The price point for a 2 Michelin starred restaurant is reasonable & reservations are essential as it seats at max 20 customers.

Culina Hortus, which means "Kitchen Garden" in Latin, is a refined restaurant offering high-end vegetarian cuisine and wine in a cozy yet elegant setting. It stands out in a city known for its meat-centric dishes. The restaurant sources its seasonal produce from top small producers across France, ensuring flavorful and fresh ingredients. The lunch menu changes weekly while the evening menus, consisting of four to seven courses, change monthly.
Tucked away in the heart of the city, Culina Hortus is a vegetarian gem that offers an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm, inviting ambiance and friendly staff eager to guide us through their diverse menu. Seriously delicious! I was so excited to try this spot while honeymooning. Honestly, my husband (non vegetarian) and I thought we would likely need more food afterward, but the courses were quite filling! They were also able to accommodate a food allergy I had and provide a totally unique option that wasn’t listed on the menu. The staff was nice and the entire experience was really lovely. 10/10 would dine there again. <3

The chef is talented and creative. What he creates with vegetables is simply remarkable and it is a truly original culinary experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is trendy and the service is friendly and efficient. My photos do not do justice to the actual beauty of the dishes !

Went here for a birthday lunch with my spouse in September and we were very very impressed. All seven courses were beautiful to look at and tasted incredible too. We didn't get cocktails but the mocktails we ordered were delicious. On the service side of things, they were very accommodating of my request for a low lactose meal and offered substitutions where needed. Each course was presented with a detailed explanation (optionally available in English if you ask) which made the experience even lovelier. The restaurant is beautiful as well but our focus was all on the food :)

A superb vegetarian restaurant. The food is incredibly creative. The flavours in each of the dishes are well-chosen and complementary - there are also combinations that seem unusual but work well. An excellent wine list. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable - we felt welcome from start to finish. This was more expensive than our usual meals but excellent value for money. We had a cocktail, wine and a spirit to finish. (No photos for this one as their website is much better than my phone!)

Let's just say it matched my expectations in all regards! The food was exceptional, the plating was beautiful and the service was differential. Our Indian family of vegetarians had never tried anything like this and it was a unique and memorable experience in multiple regards. We really enjoyed the food and how intricately things were prepared. The amount of care in the food really shines! We had requested no eggs as part of our allergy restriction and it was a bit disappointing that the server was impatient at explaining how the food was going to be served due to this change. Until the food came for all the courses, we weren't even sure if my parents who had egg restriction will get an alternative course. Overall the service became smoother, but it really felt like we were bothering them by making that intial request. I loved the food but with such incidents, it slightly sours your experience and makes it less enjoyable. We are not from Lyon so we didn't know if we were being treated differently for not understanding the cultural etiquettes or simply that's how things are.

Favorite restaurant in France! We spent three weeks traveling throughout France and visited many fabulous restaurants including a Michelin 3 star. We spent a week in Lyon and loved this restaurant so much we visited it twice! Everything we had was very good! We visited several other well done bouchons in Lyon and this one was our favorite. We especially loved the house speciality French toast dessert. The fish soufflé was my favorite meal I ate. Also very well done fish and vegetables, beef and sausage meals, escargot and lyonnaise salad. Good wine and drink recommendations. Top service. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Local cuisine and many locals eating at the restaurant. A must if you are in Lyon! You cannot go wrong

My family and I booked this restaurant on a whim and we were so glad that we did. Our server went above and beyond in explaining the menu to us and helping us order. Out of all the restaurants I have been to, this restaurant by far had the best service. My family and I were extremely appreciative of how much effort our server went into making out restaurant visit a memorable experience. The food was stellar too. For my appetizer, I ordered the Lyonnaise salad which was excellent. I also got to sample the terrine which is a great choice too. I ordered the onglet (hanger steak) and the meat was very tender with a nice shallot sauce. The potatoes were cooked perfectly with a good crisp and well-flavored. Portions were very generous. The restaurant space is small but this creates a very intimate setting with its open kitchen and nice decorations. It has very limited seating though so it is a wise idea to make a reservation ahead of time.

After reading much about the famed bouchons of Lyon, Le Tête de Lard, our first bouchon experience lived up to expectations. The three-course lunch, priced at 33 euros, started with the gracious chef explaining the menu in English, with admirable patience. The dishes we then ordered were nothing short of amazing. The quenelle, a very rich potato dumpling dish baked in rich seafood cream sauce with an eye-catching crawfish, was delicious. The ouef with Burgundy sauce was umami, thick, and satisfying. The calf liver, though a little thinly sliced, made up for it when accompanied unexpectedly by a generous side of potato gratin. The chocolate mousse dessert was hands-down the best ever tasted, though the Lyon pink tart was a bit too sweet to ennoy. Overall, a memorable and fulfilling bouchon experience we're grateful for.

Such a lovely and authentic place! We had an amazing dinner here. We tried the fish quenelle with crayfish sauce and the ravioles gratin with Saint-Marcellin cheese — both were super tasty and felt very local. We also had two Kirs to start, which were perfect. The whole place feels really cozy, like you’re at someone’s home. We brought our dog, and the staff were so sweet — they gave her water and even offered her a sausage! It was such a warm, friendly atmosphere. A place you really shouldn’t miss if you’re in Lyon.

Halles de la Martinière, established in 2017, is a multifunctional space that has garnered attention for its diverse offerings. Visitors can explore Les Fromagivores, a popular spot for cheese enthusiasts located on rue Romarin. The venue also features a restaurant with notable dishes like the Quenelle de Brochet, although some have found certain items to be underwhelming.
Excellent. Tasty beer and food, everything organic, not junkfood. If you don't like pubs where 99% of guests wear suits and 1% tracksuits more expensive than suits - best choice ;)

Great place to shop organic food, especially the bulk items (dry foods, home cleaning and hygiene products). Staff very friendly, I have been shopping there every so often for 2 years now. Also they have the local Go Nuts peanut butter in bulk 🥰🥜

Very unfriendly and dare I say overtly pretentious. Would be a lovely place to shop, unfortunately the basic expectations of going in a shop and looking at what they sell is met with suspicion, then being chased asking if you are looking for something followed by accusations of theft and demands to go through your bags. Other places to shop means this can be safely forgotten… period!

(Translated by Google) Much too expensive for the quality of the products. Scallops farmed in Canada at almost €90/kg and the quality of the products is not up to par. After cooking, a weight divided by 3 and an abnormal release of water during cooking (see photos below) which suggests that the products were pricked with saline water to increase the weight of the products. At least 2 draining stages necessary to maintain control over the cooking of the products because the quantity of water released was so large. 1st and last experience with this fish store. (Translated by Google) I'm not going to talk about the merchandise and the merchant that I respect, but about the behavior of a driver on board a delivery van bearing the name of the brand. We were stopping at a traffic light when a delivery vehicle moved into the left lane to turn. At Avenue Franklin Roosevelt and the Human Rights Boulevard in Vaulx in vellum at 10:23 a.m. At the green light I start and I notice that the van which has already gone up the line is accelerating at full speed to overtake me. We stay at the same height and he doesn't see me at all. If I hadn't braked despite flashing the headlights and honking, we would have had an accident. It ends with a magnificent fish tail. Funny for a fish delivery man :). At the next light, despite his speed beyond the limits, I get out of my car to tell him what I think of his behavior. But instead of apologizing like any well-educated person would do, this gentleman insults and threatens me. I'd rather leave than do something else wrong despite the petty names he throws at me. In any case, this behavior, observed by numerous witnesses, is harmful to your business. Is this how the customer is treated by your brand? And on the road, what does it matter to others, do you have to pass by committing crimes? I have too much respect for your company that I know to often go to Les Halles to file a complaint. But I find this behavior unacceptable and inexcusable.

Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic ambience! This was recommended by my hotel as a great place to go for dinner in Lyon. It did not disappoint. Had escargot appetizer. It was so delicious. I’ve had the chance to visit Le Grand Café des Négociants twice—once for a coffee break and another time for breakfast. My breakfast experience was wonderful. The morning ambiance was peaceful, not crowded, and everything I ordered was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the orange juice, which I found overly bitter. Aside from that, everything was incredible, from the flavors to the quality of the dishes. As for the coffee break, while the coffee itself was enjoyable, I was a bit disappointed with the selection of sweets included in the Café Gourmand. Considering how elegant and refined this place is, I expected something more special. The restaurant’s charm lies in its décor and presentation—it feels like stepping into a piece of history. Overall, it’s a lovely spot, especially for breakfast.

The history of this restaurant is more than a hundred years old. The ambiance of those times is felt in every element of the interior. Dishes are exquisite, wines are excellent, prices are high. An interesting fact about staff - the waitress for about 40 years basically did not speak English, but when she received a 20% tip she immediately remembered the entire vocabulary of English words 😂

The food here is absolutely incredible!!! The porn star martini here changed my life. I ordered the cheese assortment for an appetizer and enjoyed each sample! More incredible than the food, was the service. I had the pleasure of being served by Maelle, whose English was great and her knowledge of the menu items was above and beyond. I went with her recommendations and have no regrets. As a solo traveler, having these type of interactions really makes the trips and experience for me. 10/10 would go again!

La Mère Jean is a charming bistro in Lyon, known for its classic Lyonnaise dishes like quenelle and andouilette. The restaurant has a traditional wooden interior and is a local favorite, offering famous Lyonnais specialties such as andouillette, quenelle de brochet Lyonnaise, and cervelle de Canut. It's located just off Place Bellecour, making it a delightful stop for those who appreciate good cuisine.
Excellent typical “bouchon lyonnais” it means very friendly and family atmosphere with excellent food. All that with tasty fresh food coupled with excellent quality price and service. Please note they are two services it means you can come from 19:00 to 21:00 or 21:00 to 23:00 but it is perfect as the meals are quickly served. Always hot and well cooked. Not a big restaurant, limited avails so it is better to book upfront otherwise it is very unlikely you’ll be able to be accepted. I recommend !

The staff are nice and friendly and they speak English which is kinda a miracle in such a nationalist country. The place is pretty small actually but they have indoor & outdoor tables. The food was good actually and the menu prices are very reasonable.

We got a table on the street luckily, cause inside it’s a bit tight and there’s not much ventilation. For summer, unfortunately it’s life changer. The first waitress didn’t speak English however she promptly brought someone else to take our orders and explained the menu to us. Very nice and polite guy. Unfortunately for my taste, the well done steak was absolutely rare, but I forgot for a minute that in France, it’s different. However the potatoes were very tasty, so was the house wine.

It is known for its artfully presented traditional beef dishes and exquisite seafood offerings, providing a unique culinary journey for diners. The venue has garnered praise for its well-curated courses and fine wine selection, with exceptional service that makes guests feel truly valued.
Tucked away in Lyon’s old town, this charming, family-owned restaurant is a true culinary treasure. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with genuine warmth by a family who clearly takes great pride in their food, service, and the experience they create for every guest. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, blending rustic charm with elegant touches that make you feel both at home and somewhere special. The passion of the owners shines through in every detail—from the attentive, friendly service to the beautifully crafted dishes that arrive at your table. Each plate is a work of art, thoughtfully presented and bursting with flavor. The kitchen masterfully combines textures and tastes in a way that feels both fresh and exciting, yet deeply comforting. This restaurant, offering a tasting menus (€60, 90, 120 and 200), presents itself as fine dining. I tried the €120 menu. Overall, it felt like I had already eaten most of these dishes elsewhere — in mid-range restaurants. The flavors were flat, lacking depth or creativity. The absence of any original taste combinations is the only lasting impression I took away from the evening. The presentation of the dishes lacked character. Three different courses were served on identical black plates, which felt uninspired. The bread was terrible — if you press it with a knife or your finger, it just sticks together. You could use it instead of clay. The dining room tries to look designer, but the tables are made of plastic designed to imitate black marble, and the ceiling is painted with a shiny, reflective paint that feels out of place. The cloth towels in the restroom smelled musty and not fresh. I do not recommend dining at this restaurant.

Exceptional! Our son was here in June and had such a memorable evening that when we mentioned we would be visiting this month in Lyon, it was his first thought that we dine here. This was the highlight meal of our visit to Lyon. We got the "Grand Voyage" tasting menu and 3 paired glasses of wine. Everything was good but the standouts for me were the quail with raspberry and chocolate, the barbecued octopus (normally I don't eat octopus), and the foie gras which was served garnished with (I think?) dried pineapple. (I got foie gras at three different places in Lyon, and this was the best). The signature beef dish was certainly delicious but I actually think the meal would have been fine without it, as it wasn't as special as our favorite other items. I wish I'd taken notes on the wine, the first course white was a big win. The service was great. The decor was fine but nothing special. But I don't go out for meals like this to look at the walls.

We had a terrific tasting menu with wine pairing. The place was quiet and as a result they sat everyone with at least one table in between. Very thoughtful. They have several tasting menus - we had Grand Voyage. Delicious blend of haute cuisine with Italian influences (as Chef is Italian). The wine pairing choices were excellent and the somm was very eager to substitute if one was not to our taste. Overall the feeling was of quiet elegance (no need for jackets) with elevated food and wine and excellent service. The chef came out to chat and it was lovely to understand her vision. A place not to miss in Lyon. We would have returned had we been there long enough. Do not miss it.

Did a walk-in dinner here tonight and it was surprisingly excellent. Not surprisingly in that. I didn't expect the food to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this good. I had the roasted pork with green pepper sauce and it was amazing. My wife had the mushroom ravioli and a cream sauce. Equally amazing. We can started the dinner with the foie gras which was delightful and the bread is incredible. Service is outstanding. Booked here well in advance of our trip to assure accommodation during our time in Lyon. We were well-pleased that our hotel staff highly recommended Le Poelon d’Or for a traditional Lyonnaise meal. Le Bouchon des Filles is a cozy eatery in Lyon, offering a modern twist on traditional Lyonnaise dishes. The restaurant is owned and run by Isabelle and Laura, who have created a charming and satisfying dining experience. Unlike other bouchons, the portions here are lighter, with dishes like homemade red mullet quenelles, crispy blood sausage with apples, and beef Bobun.
Another great dining experience in France and incredibly good food. I was lucky I got a good seat where I was able to watch the two chefs at work who were calm composed and delivered some of the finest food I have ever enjoyed in France. The food was very generously proportion, and it was very fine and sophisticated, much more than other food I have had in Buchons in lyon. Very good value too for the quality of the food and the service. And once I told the staff I was vegetarian, they offered dishes to suit my taste and wow what incredible food I had. I simply don't have the words to do to find how good it was, tasty and top-quality. When I eat far more expensive in Sydney, I'm usually bombarded with salt very often, mediocre quality ingredients, even at very expensive restaurants. It is such a privilege to eat so well and for such good prices.
Nicki B — Google review
Finally! We were ready to give up on eating in Bouchon because the last 2 we had was not to our liking and we tried this restaurant. YES! The place was packed but we still had spaces in between to have some delineation and privacy. That I appreciated. Like any Bouchon, you are served with appetizers they prepare for the day, you order a main, you have cheese for the day, then you choose a dessert. For appetizers, we had lentils, beetroots with mackerel, pork cheeks with salad. They were all good! For mains: we ordered the hanger steak with shallot sauce and mashed potatoes - all very good. Steak cooked right, sauce was flavorful and mashed potatoes creamy just the way I like it. We also ordered the Grilled Andouillette- a pork sausage with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes. It was also very good. We were served a glass of creamy cauliflower ( a surprisingly good refreshing palate cleanser). Then came the cheese - both good and ending with chocolate fondant and Praline. We ordered red wine which went well with all the dishes! The place was packed but the 2 servers were patient when explaining the menu and describing each dish when they serve it on your table. They were attentive and knew when you were ready for the next dish. Compliments to the Chef and Servers! A must try Bouchon when in Lyon

My wife and I had dinner at Le Bouchon des Filles last evening and the entire experience was beyond expectations. The place is cozy and extremely charming and very French with a beautiful wood beam ceiling. The food was off-the-charts delicious and very generous portions. The 2 young lady servers were even more gorgeous than the food and charming as well. The wine de maison was affordable and delicious, and paired well with the cuisine. Overall, superb food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Fantastic "Bouchon" Experience! Everything, the food, service, value, atmosphere hits at this place. Absolutely need reservations in advance (2 weeks out for us), but well worth the visit.

A very homely, cosy atmosphere where you are tucked in close to fellow diners, which is exactly the charm of a true bouchon. Surrounded by Lyonnaise locals, we felt immediately welcome. The food was excellent: the fresh starter salads set the tone, I thoroughly enjoyed the red mullet, and although my partner wasn’t a fan of the beef kidneys (a matter of personal taste), the dish looked perfectly prepared. We finished with a cheese course, where the waiter explained each option wonderfully - the Brillat-Savarin we chose was rich, buttery, and beautifully paired with fresh bread. Desserts were equally delicious, and the wine list offered a lovely selection. We chose a crisp, mineral Mâcon-Savigny that complemented the meal perfectly. A thoroughly authentic and satisfying experience.

Modern French restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Lyon's Old Town, L'Atelier des Augustins is a culinary gem that beautifully marries modern design with innovative gastronomy. Under the expert guidance of renowned chef Nicolas Guilloton, this restaurant showcases an imaginative menu crafted from fresh, local ingredients sourced within a 200-kilometer radius. Diners can expect to savor seasonal delights like fish from Lake Geneva and game meats that elevate autumn dining experiences.
A pleasantly refreshing summer menu full of unexpected, vibrant flavors. I was especially impressed by their thoughtful use of local ingredients and foraged edible flowers, which added both beauty and a touch of wild charm to each dish. The creative interplay of raw and cooked elements showcased real culinary finesse. The space itself is warm and inviting, bathed in natural light that makes you want to linger a little longer. And to top it off, the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a refined experience. Excited to come back on my next trip!

I have very mixed feelings about this Michelin-star experience. Every dish was a total surprise — creative, unexpected, even shocking in a way — but the flavors just didn’t work for me. I can tell the chef put a lot of thought into crafting something unique, so I don’t blame the restaurant at all. Taste is subjective, and I actually enjoyed the adventure of trying things I’ve never imagined could exist on a fine-dining menu. From the amuse-bouche to dessert, it completely satisfied my curiosity for the unusual. The soup tasted like a bowl of traditional Chinese herbal medicine — impressively authentic! One bite reminded me of Thai Tom Yum, another had wasabi and whipped cheese. The spread that came with the bread looked stunning, but the taste instantly brought me back to Bali McDonald’s ketchup packets 😂 The beef tartare appetizer was topped with “crab shell” foam (not crab roe!), and a brown oyster-flavored gel made from fish — fascinating, even if I wouldn’t say delicious. The BBQ duck main course was cooked rare and tender, almost like Beijing roast duck meets tomato-braised beef stew, with a black sauce that tasted like XO sauce mixed with Chinese pickled vegetables. The side salad? Pure Shanxi aged vinegar vibe. Dessert continued the theme of “beautifully made, questionably tasty” — mushroom chips, bitter mushroom purée, coffee foam, and ice cream. For once, I actually wished dessert could just be sweet! Overall, it’s an unforgettable experience — not because it’s delicious, but because it’s so creative, bold, and unlike anything else I’ve ever tasted. If you enjoy culinary surprises and a bit of mystery in every bite, you’ll probably love it. If you’re looking for comforting flavors, maybe not so much.

Food, service, ambiance… everything was wonderful. The menu was created in a very creative way. It was wonderful that the meals were a ceremony, with each detail adding a different layer of flavor. My star of the menu was the dessert; the taste combination was the work of a genius ✨. An unforgettable experience in Lyon ✨

Modern cuisine served in a contemporary venue. We had the six courses surprise dinner menu for EUR119 each and whilst most courses were amazing, I've given 4/5 for food since a couple of courses were underwhelming (chicken breast for one of the mains) for a Michelin star restaurant at this price. World-class service from the friendly staff (5/5) and enjoyable atmosphere for the evening (5/5).
Shane O — Google review
Excellent and delicious dishes, can not say the name of the dishes since you can tell they are seasonal and surprise. You can see that there is a lot of effort, dedication and delicacy by just looking at your plate and face the kitchen. It is an unrushed dinner service, therefore all guests have the chance to enjoy their meal and share sometime with someone else. Very nice atmosphere, decor and very attentive wait staff. I asked for the wine pairing, as I started with some bubbles. All the wines selected were amazingly good but I have to say that I was probably expecting something from the Rhone Valley. Nevertheless, this did not affect the experience in a negative way, in the contrary, I had the opportunity to taste new wines and of course regions I knew not. It was a great experience, when I come back I will give myself the pleasure to enjoy the cheeses. Thank you!!

I would like to thank all the team for such an amazing experience. The set menu was so accurately crafted, all the dishes had great balance of flavors. Sour, sweet, savory, just a crazy explosion your mouth. I think it was one of the best set I ever tried!!! A MUST VISIT!!!

Wonderful experience, with impeccable service all along. All products are fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced, which allows the Chef and his team to focus on taste and oh how tasteful everything is : you can literally feel every product at each bite, and the clever mixes arranged by the kitchen. Strongly recommend, this proper, modern, Michelin star experience at affordable price.

The main and desserts were really good, and I greatly appreciate how sustainable the restaurant is by sourcing from local producers <200km from the restaurant. However, I do wish I felt a bit more relaxed. Besides that, the herb butter served with the bread also left much to be desired, I couldn’t taste the herb nor the usual aroma of butter. But I can tell the restaurant really cares about what they’re serving. It’s one of those no frills dining experience with great emphasis on highlighting seasonal produce.

Le Neuvième Art is a modern French restaurant in Lyon, known for its inventive and artfully plated tasting menus. Helmed by the acclaimed chef Christophe Roure, who has earned two Michelin stars, the restaurant offers dishes of exquisite refinement with attention to even the smallest details.
Le Neuvième Art was one of the best dinners of my life. A couple Americans with no Michelin dining experience, we did not know what to expect. We dressed nicely but not super formal. We felt welcomed and invited from the start, but not pretentiously examined. The food was delicious. Every course was unique and popping with flavor. As I look at the images I am posting, I can distinctly remember the flavor and my mouth waters again. I cannot say that about most meals. Our wine was wonderful, and 3 hours flew by in a blink. For our first true fine dining experience, we were blown away. Wonderful!

We've had a really great time, the food and wine were amazing for the most of it (we've had 1 dish that we didn't really like, the asparagus, and some wines didn't match well and we're not up to par compared to the dishes). All in all great experience, but a tad too pricey for my opinion.
Peleg E — Google review
Service was attentive and caring. The dining room was a little too busy, frenetic. The food was a mixed bag of exellent and not at the expected level (their snails dish was lacking).
Gavin P — Google review
This was absolutely INSANE. I've been to 1, 2 and 3 star Michelin and I cannot believe this is still 2 star. One of, if not the best meals I've ever had. From start to finish.
Jai K — Google review
It felt like a mash-up of cuisines from around the world—but not in a good way. I’ve been to plenty of Michelin-starred restaurants, and I still can’t figure out how this one ended up with two stars. One fish course was unpleasantly fishy, while the other was inexplicably tough. There’s a world of difference between “firm” and “hard,” and this one stomped right over that line without a second thought. The grand finale? A liqueur-infused sweet so heavily perfumed it was like eating a bottle of cologne. It looked cute, but I almost passed out.

My family and I had a very special dinner at Le Neuvième Art earlier this month. The food and wine pairings were delicious and the chef and his wife were incredibly kind. They even allowed us to visit the kitchen! A very memorable experience. While the waiting staff is professional, they sometimes came off as a bit cold. Perhaps it was mainly due to the language barrier with English vs French, but having a warmer staff would have been nice to see. Overall, an excellent dinner experience and I thank the whole staff.

This Michelin restaurant in Lyon is worth every dollar spent. From amuse bouche to petite fours, I thorough enjoyed myself, the taste of every course is on point. Bonus to cooking the char in beeswax in front of us. The service is also very good, not too much, you can sense the awareness of the service staff. Ambience wise is simple and elegant, nothing too over -the-top. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions, you will walk out happy and very full!

Everything sampled was uniformly excellent, with original, creative, and playful dishes supported by a professional staff. Go in the evening to get one of Galvan's multi-course set dinners.
Fantastic service and delicious food! I stopped by for lunch on a weekday after walking by and admiring the interior and was able to get a seat without a reservation. I loved the flavors of the ceviche as well as the celery root “sausage” brioche. I might have a new favorite vegetable!

Unfortunately, Contre-Champ is not what it used to be. The chef has changed, and the experience is nothing like what you’ll see on Google or in older reviews. The food was disappointing, far below expectations, and the overall quality has dropped dramatically. To make matters worse, the poor waiter had to manage 11 tables completely on his own — service was understandably slow and chaotic, and it was painful to watch him struggle. What used to be a great place has become a real letdown. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal.

Slow service, they were out of Hollandaise and didn't tell me, but substituted instead. 25 euros for a piece of bread that took 45 minutes to present. Table of American men beside me couldn't stop talking about bladder cancer and invasive prostate surgeries.

Exceptional experience. We came for lunch as a group of four and had the seven course menu for 89 euro pp. The restaurant also does a 35 euro lunch menu. Reservations will need to be made early for dinner or the weekend - we were luckily able to get a table that weekend for the Tuesday lunch. We didn't read the menu beforehand and just sat back and enjoyed the experience. The meal started with an amuse-bouche of the four elements and ended with some sweets with coffee. I can't fault the courses - I enjoyed them all. My favourite was the 'egg' dessert. I'll think about this one for many years to come. The cost was about 450 euro for people with champagne, wine and coffee. Thoroughly recommended for a special dining experience in Lyon.

What a disaster. You aim for the top of the mountain but don’t even reach the first stop. I don’t think I’ve ever been this disappointed in a restaurant experience. A small menu that focuses on well-executed products sounds great but if you’re out of order on one of the three starters and One mains course for sometime, it might be time to update your menu. Then we’re told by the waiter a glowing story about how fantastic the first restaurant is but we here to experience Contre-Champ. At that point, you’ve already lost us. Maybe save the hype for after guests have had finalise the own experience in the restaurant we seat in, especially if this one doesn’t live up to it. I was extremely interested to try it before but definitely not after that results of that place. The waiter was doing his best, but he was alone, and in a place that’s supposed to represent both restaurants, since they mentioned it a lot that’s just not acceptable. It leaves a very bad impression. The only real highlight was the peas starter served in different forms with a fantastic combination of flavors. Beautifully done. That’s the level of creativity and quality we expected in every dish. The other positive: the atmosphere. Great playlist, and the waiter kindly gave us a bigger table since it wasn’t too busy. One last note: If you're transitioning from gastronomic to bistronomic, it might be time to update the imagery and expectations keeping old gourmet photos creates a mismatch and sets the wrong tone. Hope this help

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the experience and not in a good way. Over the top presentation and frankly subpar food. I can't even remember what anything taste like. Au Petit Bouchon Chez Georges is a traditional bistro located in Lyon's 1st arrondissement, offering classic Lyonnais dishes in a cozy setting. Established in 1960, this bouchon exudes an authentic atmosphere with its rustic decor and warm hospitality. The menu features local specialties such as liver, kidney, and sausage andouillettes. The restaurant also offers a special weekday menu for opera-goers at an affordable price.
Started with Oeuf Cocotte with Morel mushrooms. Beautifully executed. Loved it. Small intimate place. Very large portion for the Ris de Veau (sweetbread). The Rhum Baba and the Creme Caramal were also generously portioned. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Very nice traditional "Bouchon Lyonnais", atmosphere it's nice and the staff super friendly. My steak was perfect and the morels sauce was so tasty. The eggs (appetizer and in the salad) were all overcook, too bad, that's why I give only 4 on food.

We think this might have been the best food we ever had. The communal atmosphere at the share table was great even though we were skeptical in the begining about sharing a table with 8 others. We had at least three dishes that we had never had before....I'm not sure what they were made of but were scrumptious. And there was the rum....and the rum sorbet..and the cherry rum. Truly amazing. Thank you boss.

We had a short visit in Lyon and this was the only traditional lyonnaise Bouchon we were able to go to, so I don't have much to compare it to. To Quenelle was our favorite, creamy and rich at the same time. The sausage in red wine sauce was quite good. I didn't like the tripe at all but maybe I just don't like tripe. Escargot in cream sauce was splendid as was the baba rum cake. Didn't love the herring and potato salad, it was rather bland. Loved the atmosphere. It was tiny and cozy.

This was my first dining experience at this restaurant. A friend I met earlier in Paris recommended it. I made a reservation for one person without any expectations. Upon arrival, the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, promptly seating me. I opted for the three-course milk menu, concluding with dessert. The first two courses were exquisite, but I experienced a considerable delay awaiting the dessert menu. It seemed the staff had overlooked me, although the restaurant was bustling. While understandable, I acknowledge that mistakes can occur. Upon reviewing my check, I noticed an additional item, which was promptly removed upon verification. Overall, I would return for the cuisine, but I hope the staff will be more attentive to patrons in the future, regularly checking in on them. Otherwise, everything was great, and I will definitely return again.P.S the ice cream desert wasn’t my liking. Skip that if you’re not into alcohol on ice cream.

The second time I have been there within the last 2 years. Every time a pleasure. The food is very good and you get authentic french dishes. The prices are not cheap but standard in a quality restaurant and not more expensive like in other restaurants in very frequented areas in big cities. I deducted one star for Ambiente because there is only one very tiny toilet available and in worst case there are a few other people waiting to pee in line even though you are already in "trouble" 😄😄 ... can be painful 🤣🤣😆😉 Beautiful small and typical Lyonaise restaurant. Always appreciate a visit. Highly recommended.

Great location and atmosphere. The staff was lovely. It was our first bouchon during our trip. The Quenelle was great. I ordered the Lyonese salad and unfortunately several of the pork pieces had chunks of fat that couldn't be chewed. But that is the only criticism. Definitely worth a visit for the other dishes and great beer.

The food is tastier and bigger than in other bouchons located in Vieux Lyon and you get authentic french dishes. The prices are not cheap but standard in a quality restaurant and not more expensive. The Lyonesse salad was bigger and tastier than in other bouchons. The waiter mixed up the orders! Ambiance: the space inside at first floor is quite small and they crowd lot of tables. We shared the space with a very noisy group of 8 party men ready to drink a lot. There is only one very tiny toilet available like in all bouchons from Vieux Lyon! Oh...we've booked the table and we have to wait about 5 minutes after the booking time. Typical Lyonaise restaurant deserves a visit in order to taste some traditional food.

We had a lovely dinner with a charming, French-style atmosphere. The Lyonnaise salad was nice. I had fish dumplings with mushrooms and risotto—beautifully presented, though I expected a stronger fish flavor and texture. My sister had the duck, which was perfectly cooked and tender, with a visually stunning plate, though the garnish could have been more generous. For dessert, we shared the chestnut soufflé (served cold, as noted), but I was hoping for more chestnut flavor and less ice cream. The chef visited tables at the end of the night, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a delightful experience with wonderful flavors. Thank you!

Traditional and elegant cuisine of Lyon. You can tell our waiter was part of the essence of this restaurant, he explained everything with such passion and inspiration :) We took the dinner menu at 39€ (starter, main, dessert). For the starter we took the soup, it was very good, creamy and I love the truffle in it, the soup was missing salt but otherwise, delicious. For main dish I got the meat (beef cheek), it was soft and tender - the sauce was sooo good. The veggies around were a bit uncooked for us. Overall a nice experience, located in downtown lyon - if you come by car you can park at Parking Gailleton. If you come by Metro take the pink line to Ampere Victor Hugo.

We had dinner at Cinq Mains and it was fantastic! We took the 3-course menu and a bottle of red wine. They change their menu according to the season. Exactly what we were looking for! We were tired of the overly-touristed locations in old Lyon and the same Bouchon menus. The food was exciting, delicious, beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. They lived up to the Michelin sign in the window. Staff were generous and accommodating of our broken French and we sat outside in the sun and reveled in every mouthful. Nonetheless, the premise of the "5 hands" restaurant is really inspiring and regardless it was a lovely cosy spot where I enjoyed this three course meal among colleagues (fellow foodies) as part of a work trip.

Le Desjeuneur is a popular hilltop restaurant in Lyon, attracting a trendy crowd with its homemade brunch offerings and industrial-chic interior. The no-reservations policy leads to long queues, especially on weekends. Owned by Marion Bohe, who has culinary experience from London and Shanghai, the restaurant serves all-day breakfasts and brunches with diverse flavors.
We walked all the way from the train station and it was 100% worth the climb. If these sandwiches were ‘n children I would have adopted them both and took them home and raised them as my own. The food, service and atmosphere is phenomenal. Great view of Lyon if you’re sitting outside. Prices are also better compared to most of the city. Got potatoes with my sandwich? What a bonus!

I visited this café a few times and was never disappointed. Everything is really tasty, but the croque truffe is just outstanding for me - definitely a must-try! Great atmosphere and friendly service as well. Highly recommend!

Delicious brunch! BLT and ham and cheese sandwich were both delicious. Order a side of fried eggs to make it perfect!! The staff is very friendly! We shared the 2 sandwiches so the picture is of the 2 different 1/2 sandwiches. Potatoes were delicious too!

Café du Jura - Bouchon Lyonnais is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Lyon's second arrondissement. The warm, 19th-century interior provides the perfect setting to enjoy traditional Lyonnaise cuisine and French wines. The small, cozy dining room has remained unchanged since its opening in 1867, offering an authentic experience. Owner-chef Brigitte Josserand has faithfully recreated signature dishes of Lyonnaise cuisine for over three decades.
This Bouchon has been around for a very long time, and for good reason! Lovely atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming staff, delicious food (also for those of us who might shy away from the more, umm, hard-core offal-y classics :)
Arnout G — Google review
I really wanted to like this place considering all of the positive reviews. The atmosphere is great although in a modern shopping area and service was also very good in spite of a few extra items added to our bill which was corrected. The food unfortunately fell short of what you can expect in a traditional bouchon. The quality and flavor was lacking compared to other bouchon visited over several days in the city. If I had friends or family visiting, I would not recommend this place or consider returning myself. I’m sure there are worse places, but definitely better options if you have a reservation. If you are stuck with no reservation…well, this spot will be acceptable.

Excellent simple food. Perfect service. What more could you ask for? (Ask for the traditional Lyonnaise sausage) P.S if you look at our photo, there were 4 portions served, we ate one then realised how good they were and left this review.

We reserved a table at this old bouchon to sample true Lyonnaise cuisine The wait staff were just fantastic. Very friendly and explained the menu for us. We had the set menu of 3 courses and the food was delicious and traditional. The a la carte menu looked extensive as well. Busy but not loud. Lovely interior but not too big. An absolute pleasure. Happened to be staying next to this spot and gave it a go without doing any research. The food was well prepared affordable and our server was extremely friendly and helpful. Recommended!

Did some research and this restaurant had good reviews. And we agree - this is a good find. It was a wonderful sunny cool day and tablea were set up outside with colorful placemats. We decided to sit inside - a quieter area. The food was really good. The Chef played with the dishes but stayed true to its original flavors. The plating was always beautiful and each bit was fresh and delightful We had the filet mignon with anchovy sauce for appetizer. For mains, we had the pulled pork and the Steak Tartin. Dessert was a good choice - the apple crispy had the right sweetness, tartness and crunch from the pastry. A must try while in Lyon

Fabulous food and great, friendly service by two young women at lunch rush hour. They & chef even adjusted a dish for me, removing meat.Delicious food and incredible good value. Not sure there is a non-meat option available every day but if I'm ever in Lyon again I'm definitely going back.

There are hundreds of good restaurants in Lyon. This isn't one if them. We started by ordering two ginette drinks for 10€ apiece. They tasted like fruit punch, with no hint of gin. When it came to order dinner, tapas weren't offered on the Wednesday evening we were there. Why?No explanation was given by the waiter. He seemed like he didn't care. It's too bad because the tapas photos on their website looked so appealing. It'd be like Starbucks not having coffee or a pizza place not having pizza. So we ordered ravioli to share, and the waiter came back and said they didn't have it. That was it. We paid our 20€ for watered down, expensive drinks and left. You'd be best to avoid this restaurant and choose one that offers the food they advertise.
Barry C — Google review
Loved the restaurant! Great food, funny staff and overall a great experience! We had the tartar, the ravioli, the mexican seasoned legumes and the frites. The wine was also really good and the whole place provided us with a great first impression of the lyonnaise food.

Great little tapas place, friendly service, food prepared with love, we come here every time we visit Lyon. Ordered the Tourine de Lapin which is outstanding. Best is to order the meat & cheese platter to start and then order the warm tapas. The chefs menu changes daily. If you are not sure let them choose for you, you won’t be dissatisfied.

Overall pleasant experience but not as great as our expectation. Or maybe we have raised our expectations too much due to all the hype we heard about this place. The food is decent, service is kind and fast. They have a booster chair for toddlers. Overall ok but no wow factor.
Öyküm G — Google review
Great service but the quenelle was quite bitter. I have had it before several times and that was the worst I had. The gratin appeared to be with penne, not with potatoes. And we also found it too expensive for a regular bouchon menu.
Ksenia B — Google review
I'm really between a 3/4 stars. I wanted to love it more than I did. Let's start with the good, the server was awesome and spoke really good English. He joked with me and was very friendly. The wine selection is pretty good, maybe a little pricey but good non the less. The 40 euro menu is great value and the portions are huge, so you will be full. I really liked the macaroni and cheese with the hint of nutmeg in it. The overall taste of the food was excellent. Okay so the needs improvement. I think the biggest miss for me was the pork. Parts of it were really good, especially the pieces that were more rare near the fat. However, where it had been seared was incredibly dry. Like it had been cooked and preseared and reheated and just very dry. The texture in the sear was not good. I loved the vegetables accompanying the pork, however they were not warmed through and had cold centres. I was 1 of 2 tables in at the time so I am not sure what happening.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a small bistro that left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly and helpful waitresses who made me feel right at home. Their warm and welcoming demeanor set the stage for a delightful dining experience. The food at this bistro was truly a work of art. The chef's creativity was evident in every dish, and I was continually amazed by the unique flavor combinations and presentation. Each plate was carefully crafted with attention to detail, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. It was clear that the chef had a deep understanding of ingredients and how to bring out their best qualities. What impressed me the most about this bistro was the reasonable set lunch price. At around Euro 30, I found it to be an incredible value for the quality and creativity of the food. It's not often that you come across a restaurant that offers such an exceptional dining experience at such an affordable price point. Overall, I can't recommend this small bistro enough. The combination of friendly and helpful waitresses, creative and balanced flavors, and reasonable set lunch price make it a standout in the dining scene. Whether you're a foodie looking for a memorable culinary experience or simply someone who appreciates delicious food, this bistro is definitely worth a visit.

The chocolate dessert was outstanding, harmonious blend of textures, and the mousse was simply heavenly. Although not visible in the picture, the ice cream and cake layer added a delightful surprise. We discovered a fantastic Chardonnay from Jura. Very friendly staff. Visiting on January 1st may not reflect the usual atmosphere, and it appeared the place is undergoing renovations, promising an even better experience in the future.

Solid food, but what’s noteworthy is the dessert! Nice, attentive staff that speak English. They even had an English menu. Definitely book reservations because this place gets busy. I got trout with vegetables as my main dish, and it didn’t knock my socks off (actually thought the veggies were a bit undercooked) but there was nothing wrong and it was overall a fine meal. I really, really loved their “chocolate of different textures” dessert. It fulfilled the assignment and had excellent chocolate-y flavor, not overly sweet.

Amazing rapport qualité / prix 🥇 The fare is refined but reasonably priced. Not open for dinner so plan for a brunch or lunch. I’ve been living in the area for years and think Le Kitchen really makes the quartier feel “Parisian class”. They recently did a remodel giving it an Art Deco flare I love. If weather is nice outdoor seating is preferable, inside it’s a bit too cozy but if you can sit at the bar, I think that’s the best spot 👍

Boulangerie Du Palais is a bustling bakery in the Old Town, offering a variety of pastries, cakes, tarts, loaves, pizza, and sandwiches. It is known for its signature brioches aux pralines and savory sandwiches. Locals and tourists flock to this spot for lunch and sweet treats. The bakery is famous for its praline rose sweets. Customers praise the fresh bread with natural flavors but note that the coffee can be expensive.
We had a praline roulade, a croissant, a latte, and an americano. The praline roulade might be too sweet for some, but I enjoyed it, and the croissant was excellent. The coffees were better than expected. There was only one lady serving, which made it challenging for her to manage everything—having someone else handle the drinks would help. Overall, I recommend the place.

This place was fine. As other have mentioned there are some wasps but from what I have seen it is pretty common (and maybe a good sign?). The coffee was from a machine. Skip it. Le Sully is a classic Lyonnais restaurant located on avenue Foch, which opened in October 2014. The menu features traditional dishes such as chicken liver cake, herrings with apples, free-range chicken in vinegar, and quenelle with Nantua sauce. Additionally, they offer the rare vol-au-vent dish.
It's pretty hard to find a good meal on Monday in Lyon we discovered. Happily Le Sully was recommended to us by a local shop keeper and we were lucky enough to score a table for dinner. This is not a traditional bouchon. More upscale, it offers a short menu of well cooked dishes. I wish we'd ordered the mushroom puff pastry as a starter as it looked delicious . I was very happy however with my chicken with morel sauce and my wife enjoyed her fish. The creme brule was outstanding and one serving was certainly big enough to split. There is a good selection of wines and the service is as it should be in a nice French restaurant.

Experience the Lyonnaise bistro with the fresh ingredients of the summer season, the campagne sourdough and a few glasses of beaujolais. The appetizers were fantastic, the mains including the lamb and skate wing were great, both on the heavier side. I wish I had a bigger stomach to wipe my plate with the bread. Great atmosphere and hospitality. Eat, drink and laugh = the Lyon spirit. Thank you for the great evening.

Cozy place with great food and a wide selection of wine. You could taste food was homemade mainly for the main dish. In my opinion worth the money.
Michal K — Google review
The food here is great, and they have an excellent wine list. It's too bad our waiter seemed to have enjoyed both a little too much himself. If you've ever wanted to see a giggling, hiccuping Frenchman try to serve your table, this is the place for you. Just be prepared to pour your own wine and hope your order makes it to the kitchen.

A pleasant spot serving local specialties. The lyonnaise salad was excellent as was the quenelle. The veal roast was sadly very chewy. Our wine was delicious and the staff did a great job keeping all the tables happy. Definitely worth a visit.

A nice Lyonnaise experience in the heart of Lyon. Overall good experience and nice tasting food. Bread was disappointing, probably a day old and being recycled. Service was ok but nothing too special.
Frank F — Google review
Efficient and friendly waiter, sat outside then moved inside when it started to rain. Recommend vol au vent but eat the puff pastry before it gets too soggy from the sauce. Overall delicious meal
Russell C — Google review
You will not regret reserving for this interpretation of traditional Lyonnais cuisine. The staff are efficient and knowledgeable. The food options do not stray too far out of the typical Bouchon experience at an affordable price point. They feature creative ways to enhance the ingredients and presentations while staying true to the essence of the meal. The Vitello Tonnato, copeaux de Parmesan, toast, câprons, mayonnaise au thon, câpres et cornichons blew my mind. The Salad Lyonnaise was very generous and more meaty than what you would normally get elsewhere. Great wine selection and a very quiet, cozy atmosphere. Worth every Michelin star.

Huge market, you can find almost anything here. Local friends say it’s more expensive than the Croix Rousse market. But I guess it’s because it’s central. A tip from a local friend: to buy directly from the farmers, not resellers, look for those who have “rough” hands that clearly do manual labour, and whose fruit and veg don’t look perfectly clean.
Jane N — Google review
Great market and surprised that is open almost daily. Prices appear reasonable (coming from California /San Francisco also skews my perception). I got a watermelon radish - a whole one for $0.60. This is normally $4.99 or more per pound in the states so I'd pay probably over $2. A lot of vendors and great variety. It's fun to check it out and buy some local stuff to eat in while you are in town.

Chef Marcel Ravin offers a contemporary bistronomique cuisine that combines traditional Lyonnais dishes with inventive twists.
Very good food, the salmon melts in your mouth, and the service was great. The price for fine dining is not too steep. I wish the portion size was more, but this seems to be a common theme in France

We went to Le Grand Réfectoire to celebrate our friend. The setting is beautiful and the place has a nice ambiance, but overall the experience was pretty average. The food was decent, nothing extraordinary, and service could have been a bit more attentive. It was fine for a special occasion, but not sure we’d rush back
Mabelle M — Google review
Despite the beautiful setting this was a terrible experience. Though some of the staff - the service ladies - where kind and caring, most were indifferent. My starter - white asparagus - was quite delicious, despite containing roughly 3cm of asparagus. Our main courses - chicken with crab sauce - were uninspired and poorly executed; sous vide cooked, covered up with sauce- highly efficient in such a large restaurant but lacking love and flavor. Coming from the restaurant industry I rarely ever leave a review - let alone a negative one - but here I couldn’t refrain. The cigarette buts in the plant pots, dirty menus, less than spotless toilets… hopefully sometime soon (new?) management steps up their game, show some love and then they have all the ingredients for a great night out. Appreciate the delicious Chartreuse we were offered by a kind young lady!
Joop T — Google review
We had very high expectations on our visit and they lady at the reception gave us a warm welcome. But that was it with the hospitality for this evening. We didn’t feel welcome by any of the service staff which never smiled or gave us the feeling of them liking their job. The floor supervisors were walking around, gave us eye contact but didn’t greet, smile or at least say hello. For the first course we got big cutlery, for the main course they set the table with small cutlery which they changed after we asked them to. Food was mediocre, well prepared but the service experience ruined it for us. The 2 tables were wobbly and annoying to eat from. When the supervisor brought the bill while our table was still full with dirty dishes from the dessert, this was just the cherry on the top. We expected more from our visit! Definitely wont come here again or recommend.

Fair price for nice food and great services (they're professional but a bit cool). Rather kid friendly as for a hotel restaurant.

Food very good, the venue is very attractive and impressive in a historic building. Lovely cocktails on super terrace. However the state of the lavatories did let it down, could have been a little cleaner and there was no toilet paper in the ladies. A total contrast to the venue itself.
Sandra D — Google review
From the entrance, to the interiors, the service & the food presentation, everything was top! They allow dogs inside like most French restaurant. We brought his own food and water bowl and ask them for water and they were accommodating. I only remove one star because the food for the children could be better. But I do understand that I am in France where the children eat everything. The curry soup was too "spicy" for my son which doesn't mean heat... it just means too many exotic spices for his palate. Thankfully he ate the pasta & was in heaven with the ice cream. I need to specially mention how good the bread was. We had to ask for butter and no surprise it was so delicious! French butter is the best in the world. My husband and I took the specially Menu for the Festival of Lights weekend which came with starters, main, dessert for only 32 Euros. Not bad for a Michelin listed restaurant with a 2 star chef. STARTERS My husband and I don't particularly like pate & similarly textured food, but we were surprised to enjoy the Chicken Terrine & Tuna tartine. MAIN I was so happy with my salmon with crispy skin on top with black rice, pak choi & Mandja sauce. My husband enjoyed his Pork Pluma with sweet potato puree & cane syrup sauce. DESSERT We got the Citrus millefeuille with spiced orange caramel and candied grapefruit which was good. But the star was the Chocolate finger with passion fruit & chocolate whipped cream. Enjoyed my food with a glass of Le Grand Refectoires white wine. Being Asian I like the Asian touches to the modern French cuisine. I would return to this restaurant again and again.

Great address. Prices seemed high at first, but totally justified by the quality of the dishes, the stylish setting and professionalism of the staff. They even had a delicate attention for my mom's birthday, cherry on the cake.

La Meuniere.Bouchon Lyonnais is a charming and rustic restaurant located on rue Neuve, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where tourists and regulars come together. The menu features classic Lyonnais dishes such as brioche sausage, snails with parsley butter, black pudding with mustard sauce, deer steak with wild mushrooms, sauteed wild boar with tagliatelle, pate en croute, tete de veau and roast duck.
In the heart of Lyon, this is one of the most famous bouchon. Here for decades, the decor is authentic and the place cute. The menu changes often, with choices of set menu or a la carte. A la carte products are quite expensive and the set menu, with traditionnal Lyon food is more affordable. Service is kind and more than willing to help and explain. Delicious oeuf meurette, with red wine sauce and lardons. Quenelle was also delicious with amazing sauce. The rice was not necessary. After one menu, I was so super full. Highly recommended.
Andreas K — Google review
We enjoyed the place and everything was good. Food is a bit atypical, but everything was tasty and huge portions. I wish we had ordered less as we couldn’t finish the mains and we didn’t get to try the cheeses or desserts. Nice authentic experience!
Silvia B — Google review
I'm grateful to encounter this restaurant. It's a historic bouchon, but it's not just the atmosphere that's great. The food is simply amazing. I don't want to tell anyone, but if you want to experience the true essence of Lyon cuisine, this is the place to go. The ingredients are very fresh and carefully prepared, creating a taste that can only be achieved through homemade cooking. In addition, the chef is personable, the madam is lovely, and the waiter is also fantastic. I hope this restaurant continues to exist. If I ever return to Lyon, I'll definitely go there again.

The restaurant is very centric, and nicely decorated. It is recommended to book it before. The menu is very fullfilling, and tasty. We were quite impressed with The quenelle ☺️

Whenever I’m in Lyon I head straight to this rustic 100-year-old bouchon for chef Olivier Canal’s generous serves of classics including andouillette, salade Lyonnaise, and quenelle de brochet. Food is unadorned, wine is in simple carafes and the atmosphere is pure Lyon. So good I’ve eaten here twice on a three day visit!
Roberta M — Google review
In the south of France for six days and this was a stand out restaurant. Our party of five all enjoyed the local menu and fine wines. Highly recommend the andouillette in the mustard sauce!

Excellent Bouchon near Cordeles. So typically French. You must book and can do so easily on line. Pot of Morgon red wine ws much better than Previous night. Waiter ws very helpful and where she was concerned about our understanding she brought an example from the kitchen for us to see. e. g. size of Cote de Veau (700g) - huge! Good bread and appetiser was in England "Pork Scratchings" Decaffeinated espresso to finish.

Les Fromagivores is a restaurant in Paris that offers an amazing variety of wine and cheese. The atmosphere is perfect for enjoying a relaxing dinner with friends. The service is outstanding, and the host is very knowledgeable about the menu items. He goes out of his way to make sure you enjoy your meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique dining experience.
Our first time trying raclette, and we were very happy with the greeting, our server, the decor and the portions (for 2)! As well, they were happy to accommodate my vegetarian wife. Prices are not out of line with some other cheese restaurants; some may say the wine price is a bit high but I don't let that stop me from enjoying the evening with my wife. We plan on going again!

Although I came hoping for aligot and did not find it, I did not leave unhappy. I got the croque monsieur and some cheese for dessert. The owner was very warm and welcoming. Although he was the only person there, he was attentive to all of the customers in his restaurant. The restaurant itself is delightful and cozy. The menu has thoughtfully labeled any potential allergens or sensitivities, including dairy. I'm very glad I came here.
Ali P — Google review
My first time having raclette and it was an amazing experience! Ordered 2 bottles of white wine and raclette for two. The cheeses were delicious! It was definitely enough for two for the price. We ate past closing so thank you to the staff for your patience:)
Allison N — Google review
What a lovely meal! We enjoyed great, attentive service and loved the food that included the charcuterie, ravioli and goat cheese with bread. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice as well. If you’re in the mood for all things cheese, you will not be disappointed here!
Michael O — Google review
Absolutely recommended! It was our last night in Lyon and we treated ourselves with a delicious raclette. The portion is meant to be for two people, but really it is enough for 3 people. We were so full! :) Special mention to the kindness of the waiter (or owner?). My boyfriend wasn't sure if he liked the two cheeses in the raclette, so we asked if it was possible to try a little piece before actually ordering the dish, and the waiter brought two grilled pieces for him to try! He also let us try the wine before ordering a bottle. Thank you so much, we had a lovely evening!
Marta R — Google review
Awesome! Huge selection of cheese (we had 10!) from all the families of cheese and a charcuterie board. Small but very good wine list (it’s a cheese bar after all!) service was great and accommodating to our ‘average’ grasp of French.
Sam — Google review
What a place. Impeccable service and gorgeous cheese and wine. We went for the discovery selection and it was amazing. So many different cheeses to enjoy. Had a lovely red which was recommended by our waiter. A definite highlight of our time in Lyon.

The service was good, the cheese was excellent and the charcuterie was delicious ! They have very creative dishes made of cheese and it makes it the perfect place for dinner with friends or family for a reasonable price. I definitely recommend !

Chez Hugon, located at 12 rue Pizay, is a charming family-run bouchon that has been under the care of the Hugon family since 1985. The cozy 29-seat restaurant features a traditional wood-paneled bar and rows of tables, with Madame Arlette Hugon overseeing everything from chatting with guests to tending the bar and ensuring that each dish is prepared according to treasured family recipes.
The absolute best bouchon in town. Come early since it fills up within 15 minutes of opening. Feels cozy and local, everything is in French but they are friendly and will chat with you in English if needed. Portions are massive and you feel like you’re in your grandmother’s house while you are eating here. All the other bouchons will disappoint after eating here!

A taxi driver told us we had to experience authentic Lyon cuisine at a type of restaurant classified as “Bouchon Lyonnaise,” because Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France. We found Hogan by walking past it and as we tried to decipher the French menu we were discouraged at the effort. The woman inside was not eager at first to help, but when we circled back to try again with Google translate, she invited us in! I asked about the “brain” dish and she assured me it’s not brain but a fresh cheese from the region’s silk workers. With relief, we sat down in the tiny dining room to one of the best meals and culinary adventures we’ve had in all our travels! It was all familiar but completely unique and delectable! Highly recommend, and I plan to learn how to make the Salade Lyonnause at home…
Rose R — Google review
I didn't expect such a small restaurant to hide such great dishes. Everything was excellent. I took the rillettes de boeuf as appetizers, The quenelles de brochet as a main dish (and the sauce was just sublime) And the cervelle de canut as dessert. (A wonderful cheese spread) I highly recommend
Shiraishi — Google review
This is a typical Place of a “Bouchon” in Lyon. Very authentic, you will find the finest specialties of Lyon, served in a “family like” way. You have 30 seatings max and the team is doing a great job to take care of everyone despite the fact that she was alone for the service. It is a restaurant that I’ve been Visiting for the last 20 years and the quality and service remain steady.
Family G — Google review
One of the best bouchons I have tried. Except you leave this place and you smell like food... I tried the salade Lyonnaise, very good. Poulet au vinaigre, big portion, tates good. The vinegar is barely noticeable. Crème caramel, simply yummy. In general, the portions of the main course are very big.
Christelle S — Google review
I’m Italian, trust me, the food is at low level, the entres are all on the base of vinegar, so if you don’t like it it’s a problem. The plats are sufficients and the desserts are ok. It is mandatory order the menu for 32 € each..We were seated outside next to a corner, the smell of urine was gross. The bathroom is so small that you can’t seat. Trust me, search for another restaurant, in Lyone there are a lots better and cheaper.
Alessandro P — Google review
Chez Hugon is the quintessential Lyonnaise bouchon in which to find France's soul served on a plate, day after day since 1937. The economical three course menu priced at 28 euros offers a diverse range of classic fare such as jambon persille, lentilles saucisson chaud, tablier de sapeur and quenelle de brochet prepared perfectly. We started our meal with exquisite rillette of geese, ham and parsley terrine, warm cervelas sausage served on lentils and the most perfect salade Lyonnaise imaginable. For main courses, we had chicken with crayfish, tete de veau with sauce gribiche, veal sweetbreads meuniere and an epic quelles of pike in a crayfish sauce. One month later and I am still haunted by how feathery light and tasty the quenelle was. We drank several pots of delicious Beaujolais wine. For dessert we had tarte tatin, tarte au praline, chocolate mousse and oeufs a la neige. We ate at Paul Bocuse a few days later and I am not sure that experience, though on the complete other side of the spectrum of dining, was any better. Go to Chez Hugon and taste the glory of France!

Les Apothicaires is a charming restaurant run by the talented chefs Tabata and Ludovic Mey. The cozy dining room offers a stylish yet casual atmosphere where guests can enjoy an innovative menu that combines textures, temperatures, and flavor pairings. Inspired by their origins, travels, and encounters, the menu reflects a fusion of French and Brazilian influences.
Highly recommend this place for their lunch prix fixe menu - you'll leave happy and well fed for sure. Service is outstanding in both French and English, and the vibe is very cozy and welcoming. The food itself is superb, with fresh ingredients that lend themselves to very creative experiences. Just be aware that their mushroom brioche looks...less than appetizing 😂 but the rest of the dishes were pleasing to the eye and the palate. Would definitely come back again!

Wonderful experience in this very tiny dining room, the semi open kitchen gives a few tables a kitchen table experience. The vibe from the staff & music was the perfect level of “chill & enjoy your meal“ The slightly rushed wine service is probably do to lack of space to work/eat in. The mid sized wine list is full of gems all decently priced. The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish showing very fresh and pure flavors
Robert A — Google review
The tomato appetizer and crepe ball’s appetizer was really great. Those appetizers were amazing. I also enjoyed the main courses. The wine selection wasn’t extensive. The service was excellent. The ambiance was great. The restaurant is small and it was booked. I recommend getting a reservation. The lunch menu was very affordable. Only $55 euros for a 5 course meal. A excellent value. I would recommend coming here. It was a enjoyable experience.
Chris R — Google review
I'm really glad that I found this place and booked a table for lunch. My husband and Mother in law got the 3-course menu while I went for the Discovery menu which came with 5 courses. Every dish was beautiful and you could taste quite a few different flavors and ingredients in one bite. Each dish was very much prepared with care. The services were wonderful, too. We actually ran into one of the servers at the train station and she was so nice and asked whether we needed help even though you could tell she just got off of work. Overall, the overall food quality and service is deserving of a Michelin rating ( compare to many of the 1 - 2 stars Michelin places I've tried) with an amazing value. Highly recommend it and would come back!!!

This airy yet intimate eatery serves up dishes with a creative twist, which reviewers say is excellent. The high-ceilinged dining room conjures the spirit of a bistro, while the affordable price makes it a great value. The only downside is the spicy soup - it's worth checking out everything else on the menu!
Absolutely delightful! A beautifully inspired fusion of French and Asian cuisine, just like the charming couple who run the place. Perfect for an intimate dinner, a cozy lunch, or a gathering with friends and family. Highly recommended!

If you have had enough Bouchons and want something new and inventive and light. Check out this restaurant. We had the soup - tasted very light and the coconut milk made it taste very Asian. The asparagus was amazing. For the mains, we had the pigeon - we did not know what to expect but it was cooked like a duck - it was a wonderful tasty dish. We ended the meal with a dessert of soup with chocolate ice cream and rice pudding. All dishes were wonderful and amazing! A must try in Lyon! Something different and inventive. Addendum: we enjoyed the food so much we decided to go back for another meal. We appreciate the fact that Chef goes out of his way to make your dish special - when we decided to share the pigeon - he made sure he plated it beautifully and today he went off menu and offered us Ox Tail and he saw my eyes light up. It was heavenly. It was so tender and the sauce was heavenly. Our appetizers tonight was escargot and Foie Gras - both presented nicely and tasted very good. Dessert was different tonight - crème brûlée with Grand Marnier making it taste different and from the usual brûlée’s and the rice pudding with coconut was very refreshing. Did not disappoint us. Thank you Chef for another wonderful meal

I actually meant to go to two other restaurants on a busy, warm Saturday night in Lyon, and stumbled across this inconspicuous restaurant by sheer luck as the others were fully booked. I am exceptionally glad I did. This was the best meal I ate while traveling across France. Started with a smoked white fish salad, then a tuna steak with saffron risotto, and then the highlight--a lovely strawberry and black pepper ice cream with marinated rhubarb and fresh strawberries. The wine was wonderful as well, and service was impeccable. Don't let the modest decor and location fool you--this restaurant was the highlight of the trip.
