La Tana del Polpo is a cozy, local restaurant located in the heart of Baris Old Town, near Auditorium Diocesano Vallisa. This family-run establishment prides itself on serving daily fresh fish and pasta dishes made with undeniably fresh ingredients. The menu features homemade local staples including seafood plates and pasta, all prepared with authentic simplicity. The restaurant's extensive selection of fresh-caught seafood ensures that every dish is bursting with flavor.
We had an unforgettable dining experience during our week-long vacation in Puglia, so much so that we returned for a second visit despite having many other options on our list. The seafood was the freshest we’ve tasted in Italy, with the squid, calamari, and octopus standing out as the best we’ve ever had. The dishes were simple yet scrumptious, prepared with exceptional skill that truly highlighted the quality of the ingredients. What made the experience even more special was the impeccable, attentive service. The staff treated us like family, clearly passionate about their work and life in Bari, adding a warm and genuine touch to our visit. Our entire family was smiling and equally impressed, a testament to the restaurant’s ability to delight every palate. This restaurant is a true reflection of the people of Italy and the Puglia region—authentic, welcoming, and passionate about their craft. We loved it so much that we drove back through Bari just to enjoy it again. We only wish there were more uniquely delicious places like this. We highly recommend this gem and cannot wait to return on our next trip. It perfectly captures the heart and soul of Bari’s seafood cuisine.

Overall we liked the place. We ordered fresh fish (catch of the day wild catch not farmed, grilled octopus and seafare). All was fresh and tasty. How italians say simple but good. We were kind of surprised that we had order certain amount of dishes. For three of us we had to buy two appetizers and three main dishes. Service was fast and easygoing.
Dmytro R — Google review
I had a fantastic experience here. The owner was kind and helpful and helped me find what I needed. It was very busy and very popular but the line moved quickly. It’s a little bit pricey but once you taste it, you will know why. Quality is unmatched and this is a definite must see for anyone looking for a quick bite in Bari.
Karley C — Google review
The place is overall average. It’s always full of people, which could suggest that the seafood (shrimps, squid, octopus) might be fresh — though honestly, I suspect it’s refrigerated before frying rather than truly fresh. My real disappointment, though, is with the dish itself. The plate is divided into two: one half is squid only, while the other half is a mix of shrimp and octopus together. Why are the proportions not balanced? Why do squid (the cheapest ingredient) make up half the plate, while shrimp and octopus are lumped together in the other half? To me, this feels a bit dishonest. On top of that, there were no toilet facilities, and while we were eating, the vendor’s father was cleaning the tables behind us with a chemical product — not exactly pleasant during a meal. Overall, not terrible, but not a place I’d go back to.
Helen L — Google review
I absolutely loved this restaurant! The food was excellent fresh, delicious, and perfectly cooked. The staff were very welcoming and made me feel at home. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, and the location in the heart of Bari makes it even more special. A wonderful place to enjoy amazing seafood and experience true Southern Italian hospitality. Highly recommended!
Moataz S — Google review
Amazing food and atmosphere. Staff are friendly and food is super delicious. You just need to be aware about the restaurant condition of the obligation for each person to order at least two courses to be allowed to be seated . They do, however communicate that clearly before so it is your choice to accept or not. Worth trying 😍
Adwaa A — Google review
The food was excellent fresh (fish of the day was awesome) , delicious, and perfect. The staff were very welcoming and with awesome humor. The location in the heart of Bari. A wonderful place to enjoy amazing seafood!!!

We love fresh Octopus, and have had excellent dishes served in Crete, Croatia, and Allonisos. Whilst researching the food scene of Puglia, we were pleased to discover that Bari was famed for Polpo. On our day walking around the old town, we navigated the narrow streets to find 'La Tana del Polpo' based on the strength of the reviews. What can we say....totally deserved. We opted for the takeaway, and were able to eat in the lovely air-conditioned eating room. The menu was beautifully displayed, and unlike a number of ubiquitous fast food outlets which shall not be named, photos do justice and reflect fairly what lands on the plate. Simple, delicious, very good value, and delightful staff behind the counter.

Located in the heart of the Murattiano district, Ai 2 Ghiottoni is a historic restaurant that has been welcoming loyal customers and passing tourists for 40 years. The chef, Saverio Diana, focuses on using high-quality ingredients to create traditional dishes and the best of local cuisine. With elegant rooms featuring large arches, paintings, and exposed brick walls, this restaurant offers a menu dominated by Mediterranean seafood specialties.
Everything is perfect about this restaurant. From food to service and a bathroom. We are nicely surprised in Bari and amazed with this restaurant. Food quality is excellent and we took different dishes from our pasta, seafood and t-bone. Highly recommended.

We got a last-minute table at this busy, buzzing spot. Service was super fast but not particularly friendly. I wanted octopus, but they said it was unavailable—yet it kept showing up at other tables. That said, the fish I had was fresh and well-cooked, and my friend enjoyed her risotto. Desserts were just okay. Good food, but the experience felt a bit impersonal.
Laura V — Google review
A truly excellent restaurant. All of our dishes from appetizers to desert were beautifully prepared and served by a very experienced staff who treated us wonderfully. One of the things we find comforting is that unlike most restaurant staff in the U.S., Italians and other Europeans are professionally trained. Any time we're in Bari this place is a must.
Paul G — Google review
Nice food but slightly strange and very rushed service. We had a reservation but the waiters couldn't seem to clear our plates quick enough, even leaning over my partner before he'd finished eating to clear my plate and separating out a section of the fish platter just to take away the stand and other dish. Almost like they didn't have enough plates! There are a lot of waiters which also made it feel a bit claustrophobic since they were pretty much bumping into each other.

Best Restaurant in Bari downtown. Long time back seniority, reliability, kindness and great food. Service top notch, with some local touch. All good. Do not miss it.

First time in Bari, the restaurant highly recommended by local friends is an evergreen Top quality food, specially sea food To try “spaghetti alla assassina “ crispy tomato spaghetti

From my gluten-free/Celiac perspective, this place had many options plus seemed very aware of keeping things safe for me. They even brought some packages GF bread to the table. I had a scrumptious scampi in cream risotto and grilled veggies. The wine list was extensive, but the service at the start of our visit seemed a bit pushy to decide on a bottle until they realized we were good with doing slow food. After that service was fantastic. I would definitely revisit this place if I was to go back to Bari.
Jeff T — Google review
Really wanted to like this place after seeing it rated highly by several Italian travel bloggers. It has a nice atmosphere, had lots of Italians and was pretty busy when we arrived. Unfortunately, my orrechiete cime di rapa was salty to the point of being inedible (another reviewer also mentions this). It tasted almost entirely of salty fishy seawater. Overall, food very average. Service also a little awkward as staff were obviously bickering with each other. On a positive note, you get a lot for the €3 per person cover charge, and the dessert options looked great.

Bakery
In the heart of Bari Vecchia, just behind the cathedral, lies the historic Panificio Fiore. This family-run bakery has been serving up traditional baked goods since 1930. The interior is simple yet impeccably clean, with a display of artisanal biscuits, various flavored taralli, homemade breads and pastries including the famous orecchiette, and panzerottini.
Very patient, kind servers and best Focaccia in Bari! I tried the classic one with tomatoes and olives and the one with onions. Very tasty, I never really liked the idea of eating ‘bread’ but this is much more. The dough is crisp and tasty, and soft at the same time; and it’s always fresh. The prices are only 2.5 euros. Must try
Sude — Google review
There are a few excellent bakeries in Bari specializing in focaccia and baked sandwiches/pies. This is probably the most historic.
JK A — Google review
ABSOLUTELY delicious focaccia! Super fresh, warm, and thicccccccccccccccc! Every bite was just pure happiness, it’s all I can think about when I’m typing this review. Tried a few other places afterwards in Bari and this HAS to be my favourite shop. Highly recommend! It is a bit more pricier, but worth every penny.
Didi — Google review
BEST deal in Bari for a great lunch snack - 3 pieces of delicious focaccia bread with tomato & cheese and waters for €5! The reviews are spot on, best focaccia bread in town made fresh. Line wasn’t too long, 5-10 minutes max. Worth the stop o while walking through Bari.
Marc G — Google review
the focaccia is worth the hype, definitely go grab a bite. we also tried one with eggplant which wasn't as fresh but it was still good.
Kristína R — Google review
Super delicious Focaccia’s! I am obsessed with it, I went there twice. First time we went there they gave us a bit overcooked ones, but it was still delicious. There is always a que there.. but worth to wait.
Ayşe U — Google review
It was an amazing experience! The queue is quite fast and the focaccia itself was worth all the waiting! It is really oily, so prepare yourself to be a little mess afterwards))
Софья К — Google review
Such a great and authentic bakery, they excel in baking various types of bakeries and focaccia breads, using Bari’s ingredients and recipes. We enjoyed every bite and it’s highly recommended, especially for early morning bites. Our many thanks to the bakery attendant and the working team for sustaining such a key business in its best traditional form. See you later!

Antica gelateria Gentile has been dedicated to the art of making gelato since 1880. The family's creativity seems boundless, as they continuously introduce new flavors. Their recent passion for spices has led to creations like the vibrant "Rosso Ardente," a berry gelato with beetroot juice and a spicy kick from dried chili.
I can't believe how good this place is. I mean I have tried many gelato places even in Italy but this is by far one of the best that I think would be my top best ones I have ever had. Located in Bari, Italy this store is small and when I was here there was people already all seated outside and people as well in the store. Overall the taste of my pistachio was just spectacular! I also had hazelnut which was also amazing!
Francine L — Google review
Antica Gelateria Gentile is undeniably a hotspot in Bari. You can't miss the constant stream of people spilling out onto the street, a testament to its reputation as the place for gelato. During our visit, we eagerly joined the throng, ready to sample their much-lauded offerings. We dove straight into their famous Prequeche, a treat that many seem to rave about. However, for us, it unfortunately didn't live up to the hype. While we appreciate a signature item, it only garnered a maximum of a 2 out of 5 in our books. Perhaps it's an acquired taste, or maybe it just wasn't our preference, but it certainly didn't wow us. On the other hand, the ice cream itself was a solid 4 out of 5. It was good – creamy, flavorful, and refreshing on a warm Bari day. However, and this is key, it wasn't anything particularly special. It was a perfectly acceptable gelato, the kind you can find at many decent gelaterias, but it lacked that unique edge or standout flavor that would make it truly memorable. The atmosphere was certainly lively, almost chaotic due to the sheer number of people. While this buzz contributes to the overall experience of being in a popular spot, it also meant a bit of a wait and a less relaxed atmosphere.
Zlatko M — Google review
Gelateria Gentile is pure gelato magic! 🍨 The pistachio and crema antica were heavenly...soft, creamy, bursting with authentic flavor. Even the pastries shine! The queue speaks volumes: excellence worth every minute. Best gelato in Italy! 🇮🇹✨
Gerardumg — Google review
Totally worth the hype! The place is very well organized — you order your ice cream at the counter, get a ticket with a number, and wait for it to appear on the screen. Then you choose your flavors. The ice cream is absolutely amazing — the best I’ve had in Italy! It’s creamy, rich, and every flavor tastes authentic, not artificial. Highly recommend, 10/10! Even though it’s busy, I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes in line.
Stefania P — Google review
Absolutely scrumptious! As someone who has a sweet tooth, this went down a real treat. This was the ‘bombette’ My good friend kindly let me taste some of their ‘peanut butter’ ice cream and I can confirm that was divine 😌 Truly recommend if you want to try some food quality desserts in Bari!
Natalia — Google review
Fortunately this was the best gelato I’ve ever tasted! Unfortunately this was the best gelato I’ve ever tasted… I still dream of this place! Excellent selection of flavors that changes daily. Not the best experience when seated as service is a bit hectic but it’s great for takeaway. The ordering system is a bit confusing at start mainly because of the massive queue in the evenings. Come in the afternoon for a more relaxed experience. The fruit sorbets are incredibly silky, almost mind blowing how they can achieve that texture without milky elements. 1000% recommended visit when in Bari
Florina V — Google review
A truly magical place right at the entrance to Bari's Old Town, facing the Castello! The breakfast was absolutely great and the staff were highly professional and incredibly welcoming, wow!!
Tom 8 — Google review
They try to keep it as organized as possible, but it gets pretty crazy on the summer days especially if a cruise ship comes into port. The staff update the menu board when a flavor runs out. We only saw simple flavors available like chocolate, dark chocolate, nocciola and pistacchio. Only fruit flavor available was limone. We got a granita fragola, gelato crepe, and a cone of pistacchio. I shouldn’t have ordered a crepe when it was busy, but it was my only time to try it. It was really good! But for the sake of less hassle, just grab cones and go.

Mastro Ciccio is a casual dining spot that offers a variety of Puglian dishes such as classic focaccia Barese and sought-after octopus panini. The menu showcases the entire range of Puglian recipes, including the renowned panzerotto presented in four variations. This Bari fast-food joint, located in the city center, features a display counter overflowing with an assortment of panzerotti and sandwiches made with typical Puglian products like burrata and octopus.
Visited Mastro Ciccio in Bari and totally understand why it’s so famous! I got the Moooh menu with crunchy pulpo and my girlfriend had the orecchiette con le cozze — both dishes were bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. The place was packed, full of locals and tourists, but the staff handled it well. We paid around €31 for two menus including drinks, and honestly, worth every cent. The cute atmosphere and quality food make it a must-visit in Bari’s city center.

Great spot with a nice outdoor terrace and super friendly staff. We ordered a variety of dishes: a fresh octopus salad bowl with burrata and grilled vegetables, a panino with octopus, some orecchiette with tomato sauce, and a mix of fried bites. Everything was tasty, authentic, and served in very generous portions — easily enough to share between 2 or even 3 people. Perfect for a casual lunch with plenty of flavor and a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Ricardo F — Google review
In the heart of old Bari, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, lies MastroCiccio – a place less formal than a traditional restaurant, but full of personality and energy. The brand presents itself as a declaration of love for Puglia: “Mordi la Puglia” is their slogan, and every panino, fritto, or specialty served seems to tell a local story made from simple, carefully chosen ingredients. Nothing more original, nothing more authentic: Puglia in a panino – the MastroCiccio Bari experience. Bari has a special kind of energy – a mix of sea air, sunshine, and good vibes, where food is not just nourishment but a way of life. Here, among the old streets and the smell of freshly baked focaccia bread, we discovered MastroCiccio – the place where street food becomes art, and every panino tells a story about Puglia, flavor, and passion. The name MastroCiccio hides a story of resilience and determination. It all began as a childhood nickname, linked to the stature of Fabio Mastrandrea – the founder of the brand – but over time, it became a symbol of his personal journey and transformation into a mark of strength and professional success. Founded in 2002, MastroCiccio has grown steadily, and after more than two decades in the world of fast gastronomy, it has become a benchmark of quality and tradition in the heart of Bari. At MastroCiccio, the menu overflows with panini featuring octopus, burrata, panzerotti, seafood sandwiches, and other typical Puglian products – all displayed at the counter, ready to catch your eye before you even sit down. Memorable flavors between ambiance and crowds The star of the show is, of course, U Pulp! – the octopus panino. The octopus was tender and perfectly seasoned, while the bread was crisp on the outside and soft and juicy inside. At the same time, the panzerotto and burrata left their mark with creamy texture and Mediterranean flavor. Although the crowd almost made us give up, every bite proved that the wait was worth it – the intensity and freshness of the dishes make MastroCiccio a stop you simply can’t miss. Another dish that caught our eye was the Burrozza Biancorossa – a burrata reinterpreted in a spectacular way: lightly fried until the outside turns golden and crisp while the inside stays soft and velvety. Under the delicate cheese crust lies a flavorful filling of Modena IGP mortadella, basil pesto (without garlic), olive oil, and a touch of pepper. The result is a delicious contrast between creamy and crunchy, between the delicacy of burrata and the boldness of the filling – a true homage to Italian culinary refinement. An exotic Panzerotti also drew our attention, and we couldn’t resist trying it. The New Capagnore is a spectacular reinterpretation of Puglian tradition – an explosion of flavors that surprises from the first bite. The black dough, made from Altamura semolina and vegetable charcoal, hides a creamy, aromatic filling: slow-cooked octopus, silky burrata, melted mozzarella, and roasted tomatoes that add a sweet-tangy note. A parsley and anchovy pesto, completed with extra virgin olive oil and a touch of pepper, ties all the flavors together in perfect harmony. A dish that combines visual beauty with refined taste – intense, Mediterranean, and unforgettable. Raffo beer completed the feast perfectly – smooth, refreshing, and full of local character, making room for the octopus to dance freely. Tips to make the most of your MastroCiccio experience • Visit during off-peak hours (after lunch or in the early evening) to avoid long queues. • Definitely try the octopus specialties or those featuring local stars like burrata and seafood for the most authentic experience. • Eat your sandwich soon after receiving it – it’s best when fresh, and you can always take your photos first. • Bring some patience – popularity comes with crowds. • At lunchtime, due to the high customer flow, the indoor temperature can rise a bit (perhaps also because of limited air conditioning) and space can feel a little tight.

A recommended place to eat if you come to Bari in my opinion. It is kind of a fast food restarant, but not the typical one, that is a huge plus. For me the octopus sandwiches were the favourite food in Bari. My only negative comment that the cozz& pupozz we had in the menu, was very oily/greasy. All the other food was delicious.
Dávid F — Google review
A must-visit spot in Bari! They serve amazing octopus sandwiches — big, fresh, and incredibly tasty. The portions are generous and full of flavor. It’s a popular place, so you might have to wait a bit during busy hours, but it’s absolutely worth it. Definitely one of those local experiences you shouldn’t miss while in Bari!
Yasen — Google review
Went based on positive reviews. Octopus sandwiches looks better the actual taste… not much flavor. The combo sandwich meal is decent price to portion but be prepared to drink buckets of water after eating, stratospheric level of sodium in the foods. Also didn’t care for cashier kept upselling/pushing sales on Tshirt & other merchandise.
EH — Google review
We loved it! The food was amazing, they gave out free samples while you waited and we would absolutely come again. ONLY - we waited around 30 minutes and I couldn’t understand why, as when I got to the counter in a minute I had ordered and paid. A lot of people were before us and I do not know why we waited so long, as the process is fast. Imo you should put a second cashier and screens from which you can directly order, as maybe 20-30% of the people waiting went somewhere else after the 10th minute of waiting.

La Cecchina is a restaurant located in Bari Vecchia, offering a unique dining experience within an ancient palace. The ambiance is characterized by storied stone walls and barrel vaults, creating a charming and historic atmosphere. The menu features a blend of traditional Apulian dishes and innovative culinary creations, such as marinated mackerel with beets and mint, calamarata with braised octopus, and braised beef with Primitivo wine.
One of the best pasta dishes of my life. The orecchiette here is something you shouldn’t miss out on if you’re in Bari. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the flavour profile was outstanding and the texture was fantastic with the breadcrumbs. Additionally, the stracciatella was some of the best cheese I’ve ever had. I also ordered the baked figs with pork, rocket and fermented grape vinegarette. The flavours complimented each other beautifully. Not to mention the 10/10 sourdough bread that they serve, beautiful crumb, light and crisp.
Aston J — Google review
La Cecchina offers good-quality local cuisine. The food is enjoyable, as is the charming atmosphere. The service is attentive, though occasionally a bit absent-minded still friendly overall. Booking is recommended, as local families often visit, and it tends to get full, especially on weekends. One point for improvement: the air conditioning doesn’t always work properly, which can make it harder to fully relax and enjoy the space, particularly on hot days. A very good choice if you’re looking for well-prepared local dishes in a warm and welcoming setting.
Gabi M — Google review
Positive: The grilled octopus was amazing. Neutral/Negative: The pasta and fried seafood were pretty average. The lady who seems to either own the place or be the main person in charge looked super annoyed with everything and everyone while taking and bringing orders, giving a lot of attitude to different tables. Many guests also seemed annoyed and confused because of her behavior. Overall: Aside from the grilled octopus, there’s nothing particularly special here.

We had a wonderful evening and spent more than 3 hours at the outside area right by the little fountain. Highly recommend are the Orecchiette ragu, Sea Bream and the mixed fried fish platter which all tasted amazingand priced very reasonably. The cherry on top was not a dessert because we were too full but the excellent service by Monica who is such a lovely person and great host.

We had some appetizers polpi with crema di fave e tagliere with a spread of cheeses and cured meats — so delicious and nicely presented! Bottle of Primitivo di Manduria wine! We were told that it gets very busy so we had made reservations the night before. Excellent place, decor and food!

This restaurant was recommended to me by my Airbnb host. It was a lovely spot for dinner in the centre of the old town. I didn't have a booking so was seated inside which was fine as the restaurant was quite spacious and beautiful. I had a starter and main and the stand out for me was the starter which was octopus with fava beans. The orriechette was also very tasty but preferred the ragu option that I had at another restaurant. I also had a local white wine which was really nice too! Overall a pleasant meal for a reasonable price.

Against the backdrop of the tourist traps that are so easy to fall into in Bari Vecchia, La Cecchina doesn’t look bad at all. We went there twice, and the restaurant was full of local Italians, some of whom were clearly attending organized events, so I assume the place has a good reputation. The food is very good, and the service is decent, although it’s not a fireworks display of flavors like we experienced in other towns in Apulia. It’s a very solid, well-executed cuisine. We had orecchiette and paccheri with octopus the first time, and swordfish pasta and fritto misto the second. The food was good, but overall it wasn’t an outstanding food experience. I really appreciated the atmospheric and aesthetically pleasing interior of a traditional Italian trattoria. Prices are slightly higher than in the nearby spots, but the interior is much more pleasant—and there’s a beautiful view of Piazza Mercantile.

One word for this place - amazing! From the moment you walk in, you feel like part of the family here. The owner and his staff are extremely welcoming and keen to ensure you have a wonderful dining experience! We had the octopus, caprese salad and salmon to share as starters and all of them were amazing! For main, we had the famous Puglian spaghetti all’assasina (even better… with gluten free pasta)! As a symptomatic coeliac I felt very safe eating here and all of the staff were very knowledgeable about cross contamination! After travelling throughout Puglia, I can say that you will not find a better spaghetti all’assasina anywhere else!

Ordered a hamburger, received well done beef patty and a bunch of potatoes... I haven't heard of a burger without a bun... Bottled water was served although we didn't order one and was included in the bill.

We had a dinner party for my dad's birthday last week here and the quality of the food was beyond spectacular! Fresh, tasty and very well presented! You can tell they do their job with passion and attention to details! Being a vegan blogger myself I was very pleasantly impressed about their knowledge about dietary requirements, intolerances and cross-contamination. I'm definitely going back when in Bari! You must try their "assassina". It's their signature dish and the best one I've had!

This is a lovely restaurant! The staff were so kind and the food was just incredible. Seriously, me and my brother agreed that the “Pulp Fiction” was the best octopus we’ve ever had and not to mention it was presented so beautifully!! The pastas were also amazing with freshly made sauce and you could just taste that it was made properly. I recommend coming here especially to try the octopus.

My partner and I came here on our last day before flying home, because we really wanted to have Spaghetti all‘assassina, as it is s recipe that is actually from Bari! Because we came a little early in the day the kitchen did not open officially for one more hour, but they were so kind to fulfill our wish and prepare a pan for us anyways! And we have to say, it was quite tasty! So thank you to the wonderful staff for allowing us to experience your tasty dish and the chef for his great cooking! We will definitely come again.

Bakery
In the heart of Bari Vecchia, amidst narrow alleys and hanging laundry, Bakery Santa Rita allures with the aroma of its thin and crispy focaccia topped with sweet cherry tomatoes. The bakery, established in 1921 and now managed by brothers Peppino and Massimo Bolumetto, is easily identifiable by the long queue that fortunately moves swiftly. Their slightly smaller focaccia delights patrons with its perfect cooking and filling.
Let’s be honest—this place is on everyone’s to-do list when visiting Bari. It’s legendary, iconic, and, let’s face it, impossible to miss if you’ve spent more than five minutes Googling “best focaccia in Bari.” So naturally, I had to see what all the fuss was about. When I arrived, there was already a long queue outside, but I decided to wait it out. What I didn’t expect was that there are actually two lines—one for the locals, who seem to get served right away, and another for tourists who, like me, came specifically for the famous focaccia. As my turn approached, I realized the wait wasn’t really due to the crowd, but more because of how things were being managed. The owner was running the counter all on his own, while the wife was around but mostly chatting😂. I guess that’s part of the slower, more relaxed rhythm you find in southern Italy😴😴😴. When I finally got my turn, I ordered the classic tomato focaccia🍕 and honestly, I couldn’t help but start eating it immediately. It was warm, simple, and delicious. So, what’s the verdict? It’s definitely worth trying. It might not be the absolute best focaccia I’ve had, but it’s easily in my top 3, a must-visit! Not just for the food, but for the full experience, the chaos, the charm, and that crispy, pillowy masterpiece they serve up hot from the oven.
Gino H — Google review
This focaccia place was on our list as a must-go to grab sth in the middle of the day. We arrived just at the closing time around 14.00, but there was no rush, everyone got food! This and the very unique energy and attitude of Rino at the entrance adds on the value of the focaccia that was as expected and even better - amazing! Full of taste, crispy bottom and juicy top. Just the best! Sure worth waiting for it even just for the experience
Lydia P — Google review
This place was always on the touristic recommendations and I have to say I was a bit skeptical but GUYS. This is not even close to any focaccia I had before in my life. The bottom is crunchy and the top is moist and soft, it was fresh outta the oven, the tomatoes were melting… Don’t leave Bari without trying this. 🤤
Giulia C — Google review
Totally worth the wait! We showed up around noon and waited about 30 minutes in line, but it flew by. The focaccia was hands-down the best I’ve ever had—crispy, fluffy, packed with flavor. A full one is just 5 euros, which is an absolute bargain. We also tried a few other pieces and every single one was amazing. The staff were super friendly and quick, even with the crowd. You can tell they love what they do. If you're anywhere nearby, don't miss this place. I’d line up again in a second for that focaccia.
Milda — Google review
The best focaccia we found in the city! The restaurant opens at 10:00 (according to Google), and we arrived around 10:15 but still had to wait in line for about 30 minutes. Totally worth it though, the focaccia was amazing!
Uraiwan S — Google review
Right in the heart of Bari, this is the place where they bake focaccia barese — the traditional Bari-style focaccia made with potato dough. Juicy, with a crispy crust, olive oil, tomatoes, and oregano. The true taste of Apulia. And all that for just €5 — a perfect snack! There’s a queue here from morning till night. During the three days I was in Bari, they never once opened on time. Sometimes 30 minutes late, sometimes more. Nobody leaves. Everyone waits patiently. On the wall, in true Bari fashion, there’s an icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker watching over the place. Everyone knows — for focaccia like this, and for the local vibe, it’s worth the wait. A real, no-frills spot.
Nick_P — Google review
Very interesting place. I highly recommend visiting this place. It was not the best focaccia I ever ate. But it was the second one. (Yeah my mother does better) But the bottom of the focaccia was so crunchy and tasty.. very good. I hope I will return one day. But one thing.. the price. Like a very good price for a very good meal. 4 focaccia pieces for just 6 euro
Vladimír U — Google review
I did not think it would be this good, it was amazing. I could not believe how cheap it is. 4 pcs of focaccia was only 6 euros. Try many different kind. It turn out to be artichoke one was the best for me unexpectedly ❤️

We have spent 7 days in Bari and that was the restaurant would have liked to check thanks to the TikTok proposal. Normally I am well known about my long descriptions but now I do not think it is needed: THE BEST DINNER DURING OUR SUMMER HOLIDAY!!! This is the restaurant you cannot miss if you visit Bari but be on time if you would like to get a table in 20 min otherwise you need to wait or plan your dinner on the next day😉✌️We were there with our 3 daughters and just can strongly recommend, JUST PERFECT❤️!

From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped in warmth and hospitality that made us feel like cherished family members. The intimate atmosphere strikes the perfect balance—cozy and inviting like your own dining room, yet elevated with impeccable professionalism. Our server, Mauricio, delivered what can only be described as flawless service. Attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and genuinely invested in making our experience memorable—he exemplified what outstanding hospitality looks like. His service alone would warrant five stars! The entire wait staff was amazing with smiles and great service. And then there’s the food—absolutely phenomenal! Every dish was a masterclass in flavor, with each bite revealing layers of rich, carefully balanced taste. The portions were remarkably generous—we’re talking enough for a satisfying second meal the next day. Perhaps most impressive? The prices were incredibly reasonable. We would have gladly paid double at comparable establishments for food of this caliber. This is the kind of restaurant that spoils you for anywhere else. Outstanding in every conceivable way. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

You must try the basic salad. I don’t know what kind of balsamic they use but it tastes super good. And I have tried many spaghetti in my life but I can say it was the best. Perfect seasoning, not salty not bland. The atmosphere was pretty local. I didn‘t understand their conversation but it was fun to observe they are working passionately. Heard the name Mario and mamma mia few times. Wish all the best to Mario.

The food was wonderful. Authentic and the best carbonara! Mario and Anna were amazing they were literally running to look after everyone. We had a 20 min wait for a table but didn’t mind. Also we have been in Sicily and Puglia for 3 months and this was the first time we were given the complimentary limoncello after dinner. Which we really appreciated. Thanks a lot

We came around noon and were sat immediately, but waited about an hour for food but they brought out complimentary bruschetta! The line to get seated after we got drinks got very long. At least an hour-hour 30 minutes wait time. It was absolutely worth the wait - fantastic pasta! Very good portion sizes and amazing flavors. Really nice atmosphere outside with mix of tourists and locals.

We waited for an hour but the food was really worth it! Big portions, very good pastas, wide selection of food for everyone. Tiramisu is great! "Orecchiete con cine di rapa" was not that bitter as they say, great vegetarian option! Couples get table easier ;) but big families, groups can sit too (They had a problem with plumbing that caused a little inconvinience, but besides that we spent nice time there!)

Came here straight from the airport as it is near my accommodation. It was a bit late, fairly close to closing time but Mario welcomed me anyway and his service was great - just like the food! I got two pastas (pesto gnocchi and bolognese Orecchiette) that were so delicious and fixed my comfort food cravings 🙌🏻 Very reasonable prices for the quality and portion sizes.

We had an amazing time dining at this lovely restaurant in Bari. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly and smiling staff. A special thank you goes to Ana, who greeted us as she knows as for years — her kindness truly made our day unforgettable and trip to Bari unique. The prices are very reasonable, and the balance between cost, quality, and portion size is outstanding. Every dish we tried was delicious and generously served. It’s clear that great care goes into both the food and the service. There might be a wait to get a table, but trust me — it’s absolutely worth it. The atmosphere, the food, and the people make it more than just a meal — it’s an experience. If you’re in Bari and looking for a place with excellent food, a cozy atmosphere, and top-notch service, don’t miss this gem. Highly recommended and would definitely visit when in Bari next time!

La Locanda dell'Elfo is a charming and authentic Italian restaurant located in the heart of Barivecchia. When you visit, don't expect to find a menu as it's not offered; instead, you'll need to ask for the day's offerings. The dining experience feels like being welcomed into a classic Italian family home for dinner, with no menus to worry about and cash being the only accepted form of payment.
Truly special dinner in Bari We had a lovely dinner at La Locanda dell’Elfo. They kindly found us a table outside in a beautiful square with live jazz — magical setting. The service was outstanding: we were served by the cook’s grandson, who made custom changes so we could try the orecchiette with pesto. Dishes were delicious, generous, and beautifully made. He even brought us a small appetizer as a gift. Warm, authentic, and highly recommended.

The place was very peaceful. We sat down for dinner around 6 PM. The atmosphere was lovely — right in front of the restaurant there's a large cathedral, and while we were there, a few wedding parties came out. It was truly beautiful to witness. We had grilled octopus, Caprese salad, and a fried seafood mix. Everything was delicious. I definitely recommend this spot. The menu isn’t very extensive, but if you’re in the mood for octopus, it was absolutely worth it!

Amazing pasta experience! I tried the pasta alla assassina and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked with a rich flavor. The octopus was tender and very well prepared. A great place to enjoy authentic Apulian cuisine! :)
Cosmina G — Google review
The place and the little square looked quite ambient. Unfortunately, the service and the food didn‘t match the vibes. The service craft was inexperienced, rushed and came across quite unfriendly. The food was subpar, although we didn‘t expect high culinary experience, the food still felt like warmed up meals. The toilet was also quite dirty. At the end we had the most expensive dinner of our weekly trip, for the wordt quality. Overall, for a drink I can recommend. For full dinner? Not really. EDIT: Looking at other reviews here, let’s me wonder their credibility. The staff was rushed and not at all pleasant, food really not as good.
Zsófia C — Google review
The spaghetti all'assassina is a MUST to order! It may sound simple, just spaghetti and tomato sauce, but it tasted incredible! We went when they just opened in the afternoon so there was no queue. The drinks were really good too! Perfect ratio, they were definitely not stingy on the alcohol.

Worst restaurant experience in Bari during our 7-day stay. I ordered carbonara and received pasta with scrambled eggs instead of a creamy carbonara sauce. When I reported it, the waiter agreed it shouldn’t look like that and called the manager. The manager (in a white shirt) was extremely dismissive and told me this is their recipe and there was no problem at all. There was no compensation or solution offered. When I went to pay, I told the manager it was sad to pay for something that was not carbonara, and he said I was the only customer who didn’t like it today. I told him the taste was fine, but this was nowhere near authentic carbonara, which is supposed to be creamy – not scrambled eggs. At the end of the conversation, he told me to “pay and get out of here” using extremely offensive language which google won’t allow me to post. I have never experienced such treatment in any restaurant before. It was a deeply disappointing way to end our stay in Bari. Tourist trap restaurant. To prove I’m not lying, I have attached photos of the pasta and the receipt. €56 for pasta with scrambled eggs (carbonara), another fine pasta dish, wine, and limoncello.

We were in Bari a few days ago enjoying some pizza when a staff member (Samuel) recommended Locanda dell’Elfo—and we’re so glad he did. This cozy little spot had a warm, family feel from the moment we walked in. I had the gnocchi and my wife ordered the cavatelli with seafood—both were absolutely fantastic. The food was fresh, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the wine. It’s a small place, but that just adds to the charm. Not sure if the staff are actually family, but it certainly felt that way in the best possible sense. Highly recommend.

Stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant completely by chance, and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. They have a lovely outdoor seating area, where the atmospheric lighting creates a fantastic setting for an evening meal. We also loved the visible kitchen concept. The service was genuinely charming. - Do not order salty food - The worst thing overall was the service. Waiting is ok, but waiting not knowing how long/ when or if we can get a menu and getting ignored by the waitress is not. At least let us know smth, but here, no communication at all. And when we finally get a table, the waitress comes back 10’ later asking what we wanted when we actually never got the menu. Salty food was horrible. Sweet food was ok.

Boccia Pasticceria is an elegant old coffee house in Bari, just a short walk from the lungomare. The staff takes great care in serving balanced and strong coffee, and they are friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. The pastries are highly recommended, especially the orange ricotta pie/tart. Customers also praise the "pistacchio cactus" pastry.
Outstanding Experience and Quality! The moment I entered, I was greeted warmly by the staffs, who immediately jumped to assist me. They thoughtfully asked what language I spoke and were incredibly helpful and enthusiastic throughout. I purchased four Cartellate and a small Panettone, served by a kind and beautiful woman who made the process delightful. Everything I bought was absolutely delicious! To top it off, the gentleman at the cashier, whom I assumed to be the owner, was not only strikingly handsome but also extremely pleasant and welcoming. We chose to have breakfast here this Sunday and we’re extremely pleased with the food and the service and cordiality of the people that we encountered at this bakery. I can’t say enough and highly recommend their place.

Among the very best pastry shops in Bari, two minutes walk from the lungomare. Pastries were top notch, cappuccino was okay. I recommend the "pistacchio cactus", it was delicious!

La Gouterie is a charming gluten-free bakery in Bari, offering a variety of pastries, cakes, and cookies suitable for those with gluten sensitivities. It was the first completely gluten-free pastry shop in the area. The cozy and clean interior provides an inviting space to enjoy their daily selection of treats either at the tables or for takeout.
Amazing gluten free bakery where I was able to try so many new sweet and savoury pastries that I’d never had before!! Would definitely recommend this place, lovely service and amazing food, good time all round. Really adorable as well.

Bar
U'Kor - Cucina coreana in Puglia is a delightful fusion restaurant located in the vibrant heart of Bari, where Korean and Apulian cultures beautifully intertwine. Founded by Haneul Lee, affectionately known as Hannetta, this unique establishment offers an inviting atmosphere adorned with colorful Korean decor. Here, guests can savor traditional Korean beverages like soju and rice beer alongside expertly crafted cocktails that enhance the dining experience.
We had dinner at U'Kor twice during our stay in Bari and we had the best experience! I can really recommend the Korean Assassina pasta, the ravioli, the kimchi pancake (all vegetarian). They also have tasty cocktails and a good wine selection (we tried sci sci wine, which was great with the food). If you're in the mood for something other than Italian food while staying in Bari, you should definitely go here!
Jumee P — Google review
Fantastic experience! The Korean-Barese fusion dishes are out of this world, and even the original Korean recipes are among the best I have tried. A true gem in Bari.
Daniel — Google review
The first AUTHENTIC Korean restaurant in Bari. It's small but you have everything you need. As a Korean, they have all the basics, offer interesting and yummy twists and the cocktails are amazing. I would recommend the gambap, which are made right after you order, the tteokbokki, ramen and mandu. And the cocktails! The owner is a professional moxer and she knows her stuff. I would recommend the basil one and Seoul Mule, inspired by Moscow Mule.
Rachel H — Google review
Great execution of fusing Korean and Apulian dishes. The balance of flavors, the complexity of the sauces... We are so happy to have this be our first dinner in Bari. We started with the kimchi foccacia. It had a perfect crumb and chew on the foccacia, with just a hint of the kimchi. Next we had a trio of Mandu (vegetable, beef, and shrimp) with a soy sauce enhanced with mushrooms, leeks, seaweed & ???. Excellent again. My favorite was the beef. This was followed by Assassina Coreana, my favorite dish of the night. It was just a bit spicy with a perfect chew on the noodles. We had two beef dishes: spicy Korean Bombettes, and Kimchi jjim & Brasciola. The first had an amazingly complex sauce, accompanied with lightly battered enoki mushrooms and leeks, and a slice of pumpkin. The accompaniments made for a refreshing counterpoint to the rich sauce and bombettes. The brasciola was finished tableside. The meat was so tender! It had huge flavors, with a nice brightness provided by the kimchi. The personal attention given to us was above and beyond amazing. Hanneta helped us choose our menu and brought drinks to match each course based on a conversation at the beginning of the meal. We took a Korean tiramisu back to our apartment and she made sure everything needed to enjoy it was in the bag. All in all, an excellent evening!
Deborah C — Google review
A nice change from eating Italian food everyday. The gimbap was worth the wait as it is made to order. Also enjoyed their fusion dessert of Korean tiramisu: injeolmi and red bean folded amongst mascarpone. 감사합니다
Carolyn N — Google review
Me and my wife really enjoyed the food here. Both of us are Koreans and we thought this restaurant would do very well even in Korea. I could see lots of thought and efforts put onto this restaurant. Gimbab and Ddeokbokki have traditional taste where bibimbab had slight touch of Italian, all of them very delicious. Recommended!
Tom C — Google review
We had an excellent experience at this Korean restaurant. The food was delicious, the team very kind, and the decoration was beautiful with great attention to detail. We felt very welcome and will definitely come back to try more dishes from the menu!

(Translated by Google) A very wide choice of products... fresh and non-fresh pasta... as well as cafeteria service. Just one note: at the time of payment, the cashier in charge at that moment didn't even look at us in the face, neither greeting us at the beginning nor at the end, and continued to talk to another person. And this turns the p**** around quite a bit. But what they sell is amazing and the staff at the counter are very polite. Un unico Appunto: al momento del pagamento il cassiere preposto in quel momento non ci ha guardato neanche in faccia né salutandoci all'inizio né alla fine e continuando a parlare con un'altra persona .E questo fa girare abbastanza le p****. Enzo e Ciro is a renowned pizzeria in Bari, known for serving the best pizza in town alongside a variety of other delicious dishes. Despite its slightly outdated interior, the restaurant has gained immense popularity in recent years, making it essential to book a table in advance due to its constant bustling atmosphere. Visitors praise the flavorful pizzas such as Pizza Ortolana with zucchini, radicchio, eggplant, mushrooms, and tomatoes and Pizza Fume with scamorza and ham.
A cozy pizzeria in Bari with excellent food and great service. Our grilled smoked cheese appetizer set the tone for nice dining, and the following pizzas didn't disappoint. The pizza menu is massive, with standard mozzarella pizzas, pizzas with mozzarella di bufala, and stracciatella pizzas as a base, with all kinds of selected Italian ingredients on top, from bresaola to eggplant and from truffles to prosciutto. Very decent bottled wine options at 18€, or you can choose from several Italian beers. The tiramisu dessert was heavenly. A highly recommended visit!

Authentic artichoke appetizer. Tartufo (truffle) oil available to add on any pizza! This place is the real deal.

The most important part: This was the best pizza I had in Bari and one of the best pizzas I’ve had ever. It was like a crispier Neapolitan style such that the crust could stand on its own with almost no flop and was just truly delicious. This is not really a touristy place, we may have been the only tourists there, but the servers were still very friendly to us… no idea what some of these other reviews were talking about. Respect the fact that you’re in Italy, try to speak a little Italian, and it will go a long way. One of the cheaper meals we had in Bari and they were very friendly towards my infant daughter as well.

Great restaurant, but the diner was a bit too loud. Will recommend this to my friends.

Probably the best pizza I’ve ever had.. First off, we would have never found this place if it was not recommended by us to visit in Bari! It’s so anti tourist trap, it does not need publicity to exist , simply because it’s well known by the locals. They hardly speak English, but oh my, the pizzas are excellent! I recommend 100% and more🐷

Down to earth great service. Special mention for Aljon ! Pizza wonderful - great selection - other dishes also good and watch out - large helpings. Great value all around. Congratulations and Graziella

If you are looking for real, traditional Italian cuisine, I highly recommend it. The place was recommended to me by a local as the best pizza in Bari. The prices are not high. Wide selection of pizza, friendly service and pleasant atmosphere. 🍕

We had dinner at this restaurant at ard 8pm on a Saturday night and was able to get a table on the spot. When we left at 9pm+ there was a queue - so go early if you do not want to wait! The mini sized pizza was considered huge for us (just slightly smaller than the plate). We were asked to leave when the queue started building up so expect a relatively quick meal during the busy hours.

As you stroll through the charming streets of Bari and its surrounding towns, the delightful aroma of focaccia barese wafts through the air, beckoning you to indulge in this iconic Puglian treat. Focaccia is a beloved staple throughout Italy, but here in Puglia, it takes on a unique character with its thick base made from reground semolina and flour.
Great place, definitely not a tourist trap. You can see locals buying there. Also I was surprised with very normal prices and I bought a lot of fresh tasty food for just 8 euros. All was fresh, filled with amazing ingredients. Definitely a place to visit.
