Nature & Wildlife Areas
Nestled a few miles east of the luxurious resorts in Kapalua, Honolua Bay is a hidden gem that captivates both locals and visitors alike. This pristine bay, flanked by dramatic jade cliffs, offers an idyllic escape into nature. Known for its exceptional snorkeling during the summer months and challenging surf breaks in winter (ideal for advanced surfers), Honolua Bay is designated as a Marine Life Conservation District.
No passes, tours, or reservations needed. Stop at the overlook to get a great view and check the conditions. There are no amenities aside from porta-potties in the parking area. We parked roadside and walked through the forest path with lush tropical foliage and roaming chickens. The water is clear and beautiful. Note that the beach is made of large slippery rocks and a dilapidated boat ramp, so it takes some balance and coordination just to get into the water safely. Once you get into the water it is not a difficult swim. The water was calm on the August day we visited. Bring your own snorkel gear and swim to the right of the bay from the beach, until you find the large reefs. We saw an amazing assortment of fish of all colors and sizes, colorful coral, and sea urchins (don't touch or step on them). We met a sea turtle near the reef. Use sun protection. Best snorkeling spot we've found in Maui so far!
Cody C — Google review
Wonderful snorkeling with gorgeous fish, eels, sea turtles, and Spinner dolphins! Great views from several overlooks and highway 30 hugging the western shore of Maui.
Jason R — Google review
Beautiful bay - but mainly only used to snorkel and see the fish! You need to park along the highway (there are some sections to park) and walk down a path. There are two paths that lead you to the same place. It said that it was closed off, but I think it was more meant for vehicles; you can walk past the gate. Also, note that there is no sand - it's all rocks and a little hard to walk on, and the rocks in the water is slimy, so be careful. But, overall, it's a wonderful place to snorkel. There's a lot of fish and no waves. We just went by ourselves (no tour) and snorkeled with regular swimming goggles!
David N — Google review
Rocky beach, but amazing snorkeling place. Clear and calm water, chicken running around in the background. we snorkeled for 2 hours. Saw a lot of colorful fishes, tons of reefs, even an octopus!!
JW — Google review
Wonderful place to snorkel. There is no cost to park or snorkel. A varity of fish are present on the northside. A short walk through a beautiful jungle-like forest is an added bonus. The beach is larger rocks with no sand areas. Be careful when entering and exiting the bay. The rocks, as mentioned in other reviews, are slippery. No lifeguard on duty. Porta-potties are available but not very clean or maintained.
S. S — Google review
Very nice place for snorkelling, but be careful, not easy access to get in the water and strong currents. Nice walk to the beach! Toilets are not great but are available.
Sarah R — Google review
Gorgeous. Come early if you need to park, and it's a really cool walk through the "Enchanted Forest" getting down to the shore. In fact, you'll wonder if you're headed in the right direction after a while, but keep going. I'd hesitate to call it a beach as you're going to be hanging out on stones that would make the beaches of Nice jealous. But you came for the snorkeling, right? Get out there - you won't be disappointed. Say hey to "Uncle Jimmy" (and contribute $$). Also, don't leave any food out or your camp will be attacked by dinosaur descendants.
Michael P — Google review
This is one of the best Snorkel spots on Maui. It's a bit of the main resort areas but worth the drive. Street parking us limited and you'll have to do a short hike though lush tropical vegetation that feels like it is straight out of Jurassic Park. The beach is rocky and the best part of the reef is out about 500 feet and to the right once you are in the water. If you are up to putting in the effort you might be rewarded with hundreds of fish of every variety,, a half dozen turtles, a colorful reel, eel, octopus and the occasional barracuda or shark. Also nice if you just want to go for a short hike!

Molokini is a crescent-shaped islet off the coast of Maui, formed by a partially submerged volcanic crater. It's renowned as one of the best snorkeling spots in Hawaii, especially during summer swells. The unique geography and orientation of the crater create a natural shelter from strong currents and swells, providing a calm environment for snorkelers. Accessible by boat tours, Molokini offers exceptional visibility exceeding 180 feet and diverse marine life.
The water is very clear so you can see a long way. Lots of reef fish to see while snorkeling. Molokini is a mist visit location for snorkelers to go when they are on Maui.

Best experience for snorkelling. Out of the world. Nature’s beauty for visual treat.
Avudai I — Google review
As an inexperienced swimmer, I was nervous about snorkeling at Molokini Crater, but it turned out to be an amazing experience! The crew was friendly and professional, providing detailed instructions and all necessary gear. The water was crystal clear, and I quickly felt comfortable thanks to the supportive guides. The marine life was stunning. I saw colorful fish, coral reefs, and even sea turtles. The crew ensured our safety and shared interesting facts about the marine life. The tour was relaxed, allowing plenty of time to explore at my own pace. It’s a fun, memorable adventure with breathtaking underwater views!
Fer V — Google review
Awesome snorkeling. First time as your typical middle age office worker. We went on January, the water was cool but it wasn't too cool. We adjusted to it fine. You need to physically be able to lift yourself up to a stair step just barely in the water to get back onto the boat. I'm north of 220 pounds, and while challenging it was doable. I highly recommend it. We were able to hear what sounded like 1,000s of distant whales in our go-pro videos. Super clear water, so many species of fish. Even saw a seal!
Daniel H — Google review
After coming here for snorkeling, we did not find any places around. The only thing I wish for is if there were some restaurants close by or something, because we got really hungry after the trip. I'd definitely suggest to bring some snacks or even pack a big lunch to each on the trip.

Kapalua Bay Beach is a serene and picturesque spot located on the northwest side of Maui. The crescent-shaped cove is known for its tranquil waters, making it an ideal location for snorkeling and scuba diving. Visitors can expect to encounter a variety of marine life, including sea turtles, parrotfish, and moray eels. The beach's golden sands, swaying palm trees, and coral reefs add to its natural beauty.
This was by far the nicest beach for us. It was beyond beautiful. The snorkeling was safe and rewarding. Lots of sea life like eels, turtles, and a variety of fish. The water was warm and turquoise blue. Plenty of sand to call home for the day. Close bathrooms, showers. There are some paid parking spots available close by. There is also paid parking across the street @ $10 for 3 hours or $15/day. You pay with your smartphone.
DcDalton — Google review
A pristine beach with breathtaking views! There are day use rentals & great shore snorkeling with a variety of fish, coral and several large sea turtles. Parking ranges from $18-$20 if there’s no free street parking-it’s a paved five minute path to the beach with nice permanent restrooms with outdoor running water to clean your Sandals etc Definitely check it out!
April — Google review
Great beach! Seemed like parking could be tight but never had a problem because we got there in the morning. I swam a couple of times out here with my 8 y/o son and the waves never got very big compared to other beaches we went to. Saw a lot of fish especially along the one side of the bay where there was a lot of coral that hadn't been trampled on
Ryan F — Google review
Very nice beach with excellent snorkeling. Decent amount of parking, but it can fill up toward the middle of the day so I’d recommend coming earlier rather than later. Street parking is free if you can find a spot, and the parking lot is pretty expensive at $33 for a day pass (the only option). The Kapalua Coastal Trail starts here as well and is an extremely nice out-and-back trail that follows the pacific coast. Very nice bathroom that is well-maintained and clean. This is a must-visit spot if you are in the area.
Casey L — Google review
Beautiful little beach, easy access, expensive parking. You have to pay for a day pass, with tax is over $30. We hung out for several hours and had a great time, felt like it was worth it. I snorkeled the whole bay, saw several turtles, a ton of fish, an eel, and supposedly someone saw an octopus. My kids played in the sand and the waves. Plenty of nice beach for them without coral or lava rock too close to tear them up. Just out from the beach there is lots of coral for exploring. Really cool spot. It was pretty crowded when we go there, but it cleared out when it rained (I didn’t even know it was raining because I was snorkeling lol). We will probably go back here if in the area.
Aaron D — Google review
This was an interesting beach. We were staying in Kihei, but drove to this side of Maui to check out the vibe but only bothered once. We preferred the beaches and options in Kihei and Wailea. We could not sit on the beach here because every so often a wave came up the whole of the beach and swept a lot of stuff. We parked on the grass for a few hours. Was still nice. Check tides maybe?
Andrew C — Google review
Further north along the coast of Maui sits Kapalua Bay, a beautiful bay with a nice but small beach and decent snorkeling options. The journey to the beach was a bit long as parking is a bit of a walk out and even more so if you choose not to pay for parking (we are cheap so we didn’t). The walk itself is pretty and the path is nice with a wash off area included at the entrance point where there are bathrooms as well. The beach itself is on the smaller side than others so finding a spot may take an early arrival or patience as a whole. The water is clear although when we went further out the visibility was not as good as it was the days prior at Black Rock Beach. As for snorkeling specifically, the fish variety was alright and the lower visibility, although not terrible, certainly didn’t grant as much fun as we had hoped. Unfortunately as mentioned before, if the snorkeling isn’t good then there isn’t much else going for the beach as it is a bit smaller and crowded. If we had to label it as something we would call it more of a lounging beach, a relaxing place to enjoy the view and waves. We could have just had bad luck with snorkeling that day so that’s something to note as others may have had a different experience. Nevertheless, it’s a beach. Go out and enjoy the waves!
Amber L — Google review
One of the most beautiful experiences. I saw about 10 turtles today. 🐢 It was amazing!

Maluaka Beach, also known as Turtle Town, is a popular destination in south Maui. It's famous for its Hawaiian green sea turtles and abundant marine life. The beach offers soft sand, calm blue waters perfect for snorkeling, and restrooms for visitors' convenience. The shallow reefs with small sea caves are the favorite resting spots for turtles, making it a great place to spot them.
Loved the ease of access to a nice and quiet beach. Came here on a Tuesday morning and snorkeled with sea turtles and colorful fish. The trees provided a nice balance of shade and sun for those looking for both options for the different folks in your group. We got lucky and snagged a great street parking spot near the drop off loop which made it easy to carry our beach gear to the beach.
Paul H — Google review
Beautiful almost private beach. There are 2 entrances to the beach. North side has limited street parking and drop off point. South side has parking and walkway to the beach. Also Restroom and Showers located on the south side. North and south side are connected via walkway of the hotel. Great place to watch sunset. Soft white sand all throughout. Snorkeling reefs on the north side.
Naman P — Google review
Very cool little beach. Not nearly as crowded as other beaches nearby. Offers great snorkeling, sunbathing and some shade is also available. Only 4 parking spots at drop off point. However there is public parking a block up the hill across from the church with public restrooms. Its a very short 1 min walk to beach. Its best to drop your stuff at the drip spot, park car and walk down. Sandy beach is 50 yards from drop spot. Aloha!
Shaun D — Google review
Some great snorkeling! There has never been a trip that I have gone or I have not seen a turtle at Maluaka. The swimming is just awesome! The beach is wonderful and the surrounding area is just beautiful! Love it here and will always come back to it! ♥️♥️
Brian G — Google review
Beautiful beach where you can see the turtles and easy parking spots. You can sit on the lawn in the shadow, so perfect for the beach lovers and the ones who love to sit in the shade!
Royal M — Google review
Great beach for snorkeling. There's always a big chance of seeing a bunch of turtles 🐢🐢 A Hawaiian monk seal was resting on the shore! Also, nice view to the west side of Maui, Molokini crater and Lanai island.
Tiago S — Google review
Late August and not too busy. Sandy bottom ocean with easy access swimming. Some shade trees, grassy areas, and bathrooms nearby.
Charles S — Google review
Beautiful public beach with bathrooms and changing rooms at the start of the path to the beach. It's about a 5 minute walk to the beach itself. Expect soft powder sand and some waves. I didn't get to see turtles which is why I visited this beach. Maybe next time.

Napili Bay is a stunning sandy beach in Maui, known for its soft and expansive stretch of sand that's perfect for families. The bay offers fair snorkeling opportunities, especially beyond the waves where shallow coral sections reveal numerous sea creatures. Visitors can also spot sea turtles in the area. Additionally, nearby The Gazebo restaurant is recommended for its delicious macadamia nut pancakes and coconut syrup with breathtaking ocean views.
Its a longer beach, and we loved swimming in the bay body surfing. Pretty sure we glanced at a sea turtle in the waves while we were out there. Just be safe! Stopped right into The Sea House, wet and sand from the beach without any issues. Sat at the bar there for Happy Hour and it was perfect!
Lindsey F — Google review
Amazing small cove beach. Stunning views, calm waters and great snorkeling with a beautiful reef close to the shore. We saw a lot of different fish and also turtles! The beach is a bit hidden and make sure to enter via the public access path and not through the private properties that are on the beachfront. No restrooms or lifeguards but there was a small snack shop nearby. There is a Boss Frogs location about a mile away if you need snorkel gear.
Shreyas S — Google review
Went there for paddle boarding at an early hour, with hopes of calm waters. It was only ok. Not worth the venture. The water was calm enough but only within the bay, it was a lot of going in circles to stay on my board. This review is for paddling only.
Stephanie D — Google review
This was our first beach in Maui and it did not disappoint. Super calm waters and lots of reef to explore so the snorkeling was phenomenal (we saw turtles). We did get here early at 8AM but at around 11AM it got pretty full so I recommend getting first thing in the morning.
Diego C — Google review
We had a great time. My son loves snorkeing and there were many large green turtles, eels, the state fish with a funny name and other colorful fish. It was not overcrowded when we went later in the day and the water was delightful. The more you float and don't splash around the more you see.
Nessie — Google review
Beautiful Beautiful beach. Street parking is there for the finding and a short walk. Lots of resorts that have food for purchase. You'll have to use a resort wash station for clean up. Water just has that Hawaiian Tropic oil sheen gleaming on the water which is not my kind of beach but maybe for others.
Joel R — Google review
Beautiful beach for swimming and snorkeling! Parking can be difficult to find if not staying in the nearby hotels, but there is free street parking if you can find a spot.
Joel H — Google review
We got to do snorkeling 🤿 in this bay! Twas a bit of cloudy weather but the despite of it we enjoyed seeing all kinds of beautiful sea creatures like fishes and a sea turtle 🐢! Twas a definitely beautiful and highlight of our trip in Maui! Love to do snorkeling when the weather is beautiful as well!

Ulua Beach, located on the south shore, is a family-friendly destination with lush forests, soft sand, and gentle waves perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The beach features a winding boardwalk lined with palm trees that offers picturesque views for all visitors. Additionally, it provides easy access to nearby lodging and other attractions such as Makena Beach State Park and Oneuli Beach.
This may be our favourite beach in Maui. Sometime there is awesome boogie boarding and huge waves, but when calm there is some decent snorkelling along the far right reef. There is even some shade if you like! Bathrooms and showers are available also. No lifeguard here. Not a lot of parking though and it fills up early
Scott A — Google review
This was our first visit to Ulua Beach ,but definitely not our last. It has a good amount of parking spaces. Public restrooms, outdoor shower, and everything is very clean. On the north end take a short climb through some trees and you can go into another Beach. Snorkeling was fun with a fair amount of fish to see. We didn't see any turtles today but I'm sure they're out there. Family friendly, small waves. Nice sandy beach.

Great beach for snorkeling! Make sure you arrive there early ! Best time for snorkeling is 7-9 am ! We had no experience with snorkeling and didn’t know about it . Got there around 11 am ! But we still got a glimpse of the reef there despite the choppy water ! Ps they all recommend this beach for snorkeling ! From my observation there is a small beach nearby that is great for snorkeling too. It has no name but it is near boat launch! Water is very calm and it has lots of pencil urchin visible from the shore!
Shellie S — Google review
It was a 30-minute Uber ride from the cruise Port. This was the beach introduced by the local Uber driver. The result was even more satisfactory than we imagined. There were trees for shade, and rocks was next to the beach . You could see a lot of beautiful fish right away, this beach is my favorite.
任玫遨遊Mei — Google review
Soft sandy beach and a great place to catch the sunset. Good snorkeling and several sea turtles in the area. The coral reefs are worth exploring, underwater visibility picks up the further you are from the sands shores.
Albert R — Google review
Our favorite beach for snorkling with our child. The north end of the beach has an easy entrance to the reef compared to other beaches in South shore Maui. On a good day we got to see almost all the fish on the "fish card", and also a sea turtle! Just be sure to keep your distance and don't disturb them!
Jonatan W — Google review
Good for snorkeling. I can spot Turtle here, Make sure to pick the day that is not too strong wind. Have a public restroom and shower area. There is a lot of parking.

We arrived here following local recommendation and we discovered excellent beach. The beach is so beautiful with an option for shady spots. There is a promenade along the beach along the luxury hotels. The beach is a great place to snorkel. We saw a sea turtle and lots of corals under the water. Highly recommended.

La Perouse Bay, located at the southern tip of Maui, is a stunning destination that showcases the island's volcanic history and breathtaking oceanfront scenery. This picturesque bay is home to the last lava flow on Maui from 1790, offering visitors a glimpse into its geological wonders. The surrounding area features unique lava formations and rocky shorelines perfect for exploration. While it may not be your typical sandy beach experience, La Perouse Bay compensates with mesmerizing views and opportunities for adventure.
Beautiful place to visit! There is a hiking trail but you need to have close toe shoes b/c vocanic rocks path. Can get to the next beach. The path has no cover so bring plentybof water & sunscreen so you don't get burned.
Patricia C — Google review
Beautiful place to spend a few hours exploring the coast of Maui. The drive there is an debenture in itself. We were glad we had a Jeep. The road is rough! You can hike for hours or just visit the bay. The sign says spinner dolphins are active in the mornings. We were there about 11 and didn’t see any. We saw turtles. Great spot for pictures. The black lava rock against the white coral and sand beaches is amazing. And the water sprays from the waves through the lava tubes is mesmerizing!! Bring water and sunscreen. There are shaded parts of the hike (especially in the wooded areas with the goats), but much of it is open in the sun! Wear tennis shoes, the lava rock is rough and sharp. It was a great day trip! Only 20 minutes from Wailea village. You will loose all cel service but once you’re on the road, you can’t miss the destination. Parking was easy and not full.

Beautiful place to visit and so vastly different in environment to other parts of Maui. It is amazing to see the cinder cones and the lava flow. Well worth the drive and on the way back stop at the beautiful Makena Bay beach. Make sure to wear shoes, lava rocks are sharp!!

Kahekili Beach Park, also known as Airport Beach, is a less crowded alternative to Kaanapali Beach in the northernmost part of the Kaanapali resort area. It offers good snorkeling opportunities and a long, soft sand beach ideal for swimming on calm days. The park features picnic facilities, barbecue grills, showers, restrooms, and ample parking. The reef just offshore is easily accessible from the beach and is perfect for families and beginner snorkelers.
this beach was on of my favorite beaches in this area. there was SO MUCH to see when snorkeling — schools of fish, coral reefs, and turtles! it was gorgeous. the only complaint was the drop off being so drastic and deep.

Low effort, high reward spot for snorkeling! We went a few times throughout our trip and it was gorgeous each time. Easy parking. A very popular spot but once we were in the water, it didn't matter much to us. Our favorite time was around 7:30am-9am when we saw a turtles and lots of fish. As you walk towards the beach from the parking lot, turn right and NOT left for the reefs to snorkel around. You can get in the water close to the right of the parking lot, no need to walk too far down the sand to get great reef views.

Great place to snorkel and get some sun. I like that they have a restroom and descent amount of parking.

Beautiful beach with reefs. Very good spot for snorkeling. Most action is in front of the hotel, lots of tropical fishes. There is a shower and toilets for public use.

Great public beach, has a shaded area with tables, multiple benches, restrooms with a dedicated changing room, and quick beach access. Great location for snorkeling. Within 1 hour I spotted not just the plethora of tropical fish but: an octopus, moray eel chilling in the coral, mommy turtle with a little turtle.

Kaanapali Beach is a popular destination in Maui, known for its beautiful shoreline and a variety of activities. Visitors can enjoy the beachwalk, swimming, and snorkeling while taking in the scenic views. The area is also home to resorts, eateries, and shopping options. One of the accommodations available at Kaanapali Beach is the Hyatt Vacation Club, offering beachfront access and amenities such as outdoor swimming pools and a 24-hour fitness center.
It is a nice beach with good facilities for food, drinks, and ice cream. However, the sea bottom is full of coral and stones, so you can easily injure your legs. Be very careful. You can rent equipment and even book a tour here.

It’s like small city with beautiful greenery 1. Maui crafts and gifts fair happening. 2. There is huge golf course. 3. A very small parking in-front of actual beach entry like 10 slots in front of it (go straight, you will find more parking). There will be lots of other beach entrances. 4. Huge resorts and great place to chill and enjoy beach for. 5. Went during weekdays and less crowd than what I expected.

Kaanapali is a piece of heaven on the earth. Beautiful beaches, lovely mountains and perfect sky. Here is now one of my most favorite places I've ever stayed.
Hanieh E — Google review
It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Maui. We saw a few turtles and some beautiful fish while swimming so snorkeling is great there. Tons of space and clear water. There are rocky cliffs on the right side of the beach for some cliff diving but be careful because it’s quite slippery.
Elzbieta M — Google review
We went to visit for 2 weeks last month and the beach so beautiful, breathtaking and so clear. The water was not quite calm and too much waves but still did not stop my hubby to be in the water. We stayed at Marriott Ocean Lahaina so the resort right by the ocean. We observed a sleeping sea lion at one time. There’s so many upscale resorts along the beach and nice restaurants as well as its walking distance to Whalers Village. We enjoyed riding the Maui Bus. Will definitely be back, it was a quite memorable first time visit to Maui but we been to Hawaii 4 times already. Love Hawai’i so peaceful…

Gorgeous beach lined with resorts so it does get busy. You've got a decent chance to see turtles here at the end by the black rock cliffs.
Kyle K — Google review
Kāʻanapali Beach is nice to look at, but honestly not a must-see when visiting Maui. The surf was pretty rough and the entry into the water was rocky and not great for swimming. It felt overly hyped up compared to other beaches on the island. We did get to see a Hawaiian Mono Seal which is incredibly rare. My photo of the beach is also extremely edited. If you’re in the area, I’d recommend heading just a little further north to Black Rock Beach — it has much better snorkeling, clearer water, and even some fun cliff jumping. Definitely a more memorable spot than Kāʻanapali.

Parking is treacherous. Water is nice, not to crowded at all on a Sunday. There is nothing to see if you’re snorkeling. Perhaps there would have been more to see by the rocks where people are diving.

Beach
Black Rock Beach, also known as Puu Kekaa in Hawaiian, is a popular sandy beach located in the resort town of Kaanapali on Maui's west coast. The beach features a landmark lava promontory that is perfect for cliff diving and offers some of the best snorkeling spots on the island. However, visitors are advised to be cautious of rip currents when venturing further from the shore.
The best beach we went to in Maui. The sand is soft and the beach is very clean. There’s a good amount of space on the beach itself so you’ll have choices on where you want to lay, but beware it is popular so it will get busier later in the day. Great choice for snorkeling, the water is clear and there’s a good amount of coral and fish to go around. We saw a small group of sea turtles resting when we went a bit further out into the water so that was a huge plus. All around a great beach and we recommend it to those visiting and staying in West Maui.

Best snorkeling spot during our trip! Visited in early August and enjoyed it a lot! Parking was easy (after we realized there were no free open parking). We parked at the Sheraton. You will need to scan and pay online which is super easy, it all connected to your car tag, and time starts and ends when you cross entrance/exit. By the time we parked and were leaving the car we already owe $2.99 haha so move fast people! Joking! It's $2.99 for first 20 minutes and then $2 for every 15 minutes, but if you get something from the bar or shaved ice place by the pool, you will get $16 off (2 free hours). Shaved ice is pretty good there by the way! Beach area is not big and because everyone is snorkeling by the rocks, it was pretty crowded. There were 2 sea turtles despite crowdedness, swimming on and off and around people. Really good place for snorkeling, even on a day that was 6 out of 10 for snorkeling conditions per local report.
Ana S — Google review
There is a nice walking path from the main hotels. Lovely walk. Then arriving to this place is rewarding. This is a public beach with plenty of area to sit. Not shades at the area unless you sit very close to the rock. Snorkeling here is easy and you just need the basic equipment. You can see Turtles and a great variety of fish. Just respect their areas. Don't touch them. Don't stand on the rocks in the water. It is their home. Totally recommended. The sunset is spectacular!
Carlos O — Google review
Black Rock is one of Maui’s most iconic beaches, and it’s easy to see why. The beach itself is beautiful, with clear waters, soft sand, and plenty of room—even when it’s crowded. It’s an excellent spot for snorkeling, offering the chance to see colorful fish and other marine life up close. Parking can be tricky and expensive, which can be frustrating if you’re not prepared. Here’s a little insider tip: if you pay for parking, head to one of the Sheraton bars and ask for the QR code that gives you a $16 rebate. You may need to order a drink to get it, but it’s a small price to save on parking and worth the effort. Of course, the star attraction is the Black Rock itself. Climb up, take in the stunning views, and if you’re feeling brave, jump into the ocean below. It’s a very popular activity, so expect a crowd, but the thrill and the scenery make it well worth it. Between snorkeling, beach relaxation, and the jump, Black Rock is a full-day experience you won’t want to miss.
Daniel C — Google review
Awesome little spot at the north end of Kaanapali beach. You will be able to cliff jump and snorkel here. It was my lucky day to see not one but three sea turtles that hung out and swam with us for hours. Shallow water that lets you snorkel close to shore. Be careful of the current and strong waves or you can get thrown into the sharp rocks. Respect the wildlife and never touch anything. Take what you brought with you. Never leave trash. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent from several vendors along the beach. A umbrella is 40-50 and they bring and set it all up for you. It was my first time being able to swim among turtles and it was a ln amazing experience that I will remember and cherish. I would highly recommend this area because it’s close to lots of food and shops at the whalers village.

Black Rock Beach was amazing! The snorkeling here was some of the best we’ve done — tons of colorful fish and several sea turtles swimming right around us. The water was clear, calm, and easy to get in and out of. Watching people cliff jump off the rock added to the fun atmosphere without feeling too crowded. Definitely a must-visit spot in Maui — 5/5, highly recommend for snorkeling and relaxing!

All my wife wanted on this trip was to see a turtle and this place delivered! Even on a windy and slightly drizzling day, the water was still clear and we saw two turtles and lots of fish! The menu features delicious eggs Benedicts, perfectly cooked bacon, and great biscuits at a reasonable price. It's a great addition to Kihei and definitely worth trying out for its friendly service and enjoyable vibe.
Great spot for Vegan pizza! Other vegan options included Cauliflower Wings and Breadsticks made with olive oil instead of using butter. We hit this spot twice on our vacation! On another note, the pizza and the sauce tastes very similar to Pizza Hut’s recipe.

Wife and I visited on our honeymoon to Maui November 2024. Craving some pizza we stopped in and I still cannot stop thinking about the Hoi Boi. Easily the best pizza I have ever had in my life… I just don’t see another pizza topping it until we come back. Fresh pineapple, incredible sauce and ham. Pizza in paradise. Service was great, atmosphere fantastic even for being on South Kihei Rd, Keep it up. Much love.

This is a nice casual spot with some really good pizza options. We tried the veggie pizza and loved how fresh and flavorful the toppings were. The crust was just right too — crisp on the edges and soft inside. The only downside was the long wait; it felt like they were a bit understaffed when we visited. Still, the staff was friendly and the laid-back vibe made it a decent dine-in experience overall.
Siddhant K — Google review
Slow service. A couple seated after us has ordered, eaten, and just left. We are still waiting for our food. No kidding, 60 minutes later. I hope it's good. Update: The general manager did finally notice that we had not received our food and came over and apologized and offered us half off of our order and assured us she would double check on it and get it right out. Then when the server had to once again ask us what we ordered she came out and apologized once again, said this should have never happened and told us that she was comping our entire meal. 2 hours for 1 large pepperoni pizza, a personal pan pizza and 2 salads. Kudos to her for trying to make it right. The marinara sauce for the breadsticks was delicous and the salads were pretty amazing. I dont know about the pizza as I didn't have a piece but it looked good. Everyone in my group of 6 said they would eat there again but would do carryout as dining in time was a bit excessive. Thank you gm for trying to make it right.
Linda W — Google review
The kids were asking for pepperoni pizza all week and we were excited to try Black Rock. I ordered online, bread sticks and a pepperoni pizza adding pineapple to 1 half and sausage to the other half. When picking up the order the cashier opened the box and double checked the order. I guess I should have done the same. When I got back to the condo I realized they didn't even put any pepperoni on the pizza! It was just pineapple on 1/3, sausage on 1/3 and just cheese on the outer 2 inches. I get it was a human cooking (there is a white board showing the name of who it was) and they make mistakes, not the end of the world. However, when trying to call to correct the mistake you get an AI AUTO ATTENDANT. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO SPEAK TO A HUMAN. I emailed back the order confirmation email and no response. I texted back the confirmation text number and no response. The AI robot did place an order for me for a 16" pepperoni but I wasn't driving back to the restaurant at that point. During the whole week on Maui this AI clown show was the only disappointment. Obviously we'll go elsewhere next time and I'd like my $3 refunded.
Andy — Google review
We ate here twice during our week stay in Kīhei because we enjoyed it so much. The first time we did dine in, the second time we did take out. The pepperoni rolls were SO delicious, as well as the Maui Waui pizza. For the moment it’s BYOB (bring your own beer) and they will provide cold glasses for the beer you bring in with you.

Such a great beach. Wasn’t too crowded. Soft sand in and out of the water. Little lava fields at both ends that attract fish and turtles for snorkeling. The waves are flat and great for swimming, not so good for anything else. Very calming and relaxing and peaceful. No shade so bring your own.

If you’re visiting Maui, make sure to stop by Polo Beach, - Wailea Beach located right next to the Fairmont Kea Lani. It’s a beautiful, calm spot perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply soaking in the island serenity. The soft golden sand, gentle waves, and laid-back atmosphere make it a true Maui gem. And remember — all beaches in Hawaii are open to the public, so everyone can enjoy this little piece of paradise. During our visit, we even saw whales passing by in the distance — an unforgettable sight! Stay for the sunset, and you’ll understand why Polo Beach is one of Wailea’s best-kept secrets.

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. This was our favorite part of our stay. My son played in the waves for hours. We had to pull him away each time. The waves can really get wild, so be careful and keep an eye on little ones, no lifeguard here. We went in August and it was quite hot, hitting 90s each day and the sun is intense. Be prepared with preferably some shade to take a break and sunscreen, of course.

Black Rock, also known as Puu Kekaa, holds great cultural and spiritual significance in Hawaiian history. Legend has it that King Kahekili proved his spiritual strength by leaping from this rock in the 1700s. It is believed that jumping from Black Rock transports the soul of the deceased to the spiritual world. Today, a sunset ceremony takes place at this spot where a diver beautifully jumps into the waters below.
Awesome cliff to deep water solo all whilst people are jumping over your head. This is an awesome place to go for cliff jumping as well. Just be aware the rock is really sharp so you’ll want some shoes. You can go to the other side of the cove that is behind this cliff if you want a bigger cliff. Just don’t jump on the turtles. Parking also sucks. So good luck. There are free spots all along the resort beach front in the parking lots but they are few and far away before you find an empty one.
Keaton M — Google review
Great snorkeling! Easy walk-in entry. Gorgeous colorful fish come right up into the very shallow water, even as shallow as 8 inches deep. You barely even have to get wet to see beautiful turtles and fish swimming there. There are beautiful fish all along the rocks. Closer to the point, there is also living coral! Beautiful! The water is calm. Stay close to shore. Don’t go all the way to the point or around the point. There, there is a very strong undertow.
Margot S — Google review
Amazing beach, we got to swim with 3 turtles beside the cliff and the cliff jumping was fun. If you go in the evening for sunset some performers are cliff diving and singing from the resort. Parking is hard to find though!!

We are staying at the Sheraton here at Black Rock. The snorkeling is awesome! It right off the beach. I’ve seen lots of fish, many turtles feeding along the rocks and stingrays off the beach too. I’ve gone 2 days and probably again tomorrow if the snorkel report is good
Kelli P — Google review
This is a stunning spot for snorkeling and watching turtles. You can also climb the rock and leap into the ocean for an exhilarating experience. However, it's crucial to wear slippers while climbing the rocks—meaning you'll need to hold onto them and jump with them. While it may seem simple, be sure to jump far enough away from the rocks for safety. I also wish there were someone to guide and direct jumpers, as what starts as fun can quickly turn dangerous.

Awesome beach for snorkeling, body surfing, and just lounging on the sand. Pretty limited parking, which keeps the beach from getting too crowded. The beach features soft white sand perfect for lounging and strolling, while the calm ocean is great for swimming and snorkeling, especially at the southern end where sea turtles can be spotted. It's a hidden gem with fewer resorts nearby, making it popular among locals.
Keawakapu Beach is a gem with soft sand, clear waters, and fewer crowds than other Maui beaches. It’s great for swimming, snorkeling near the rocky outcrops, and long walks along the shore. Sunsets here are stunning, and morning visits offer calm waters. Limited parking means arriving early is best. There are showers but no public restrooms. It’s a peaceful, scenic spot perfect for a relaxed beach day.

Smooth sand (virtually no rocks). Grassy area next to the sand for even more comfortable seating. Beautiful water, great temperature. Waves were pleasant. Free parking/access. This beach was "just right" for us.

This beach was recommended by several staff from our hotel. The beach is beautiful with its very smooth sand. It’s a little tricky navigating from the parking lot while carrying beach chairs and umbrellas. The place was crowded when we visited, I can see why there why the place is popular with swimmers.

Favorite beach on ALL of Maui. Great beach for swimming, snorkeling, walking and tide pools. Great place to go when the wind kicks up… you can head up into the grass in front of the Mana Kai and the building will block the wind. Love this beach!

Always a great beach to swim at, with interesting formations for snorkeling. Nice showers and well maintained restrooms for a comfortable day at one of Maui's most scenic beaches.

Olowalu Beach, also known as Turtle Reef, is a brown-sand beach with an extensive coral reef that is home to a diverse range of marine life, including sea turtles. It is a fantastic spot for snorkeling, offering optimal conditions year-round and easy access from the narrow sandy beach. The calm waters and shallow entry make it an ideal location for beginner snorkelers to explore the vibrant underwater world.
Lovely low tide beach with beginner friendly snorkeling. It was our favorite beach in Maui!
Alyssa G — Google review
Narrow stretch of beach. No designated parking but plenty available just along the road, so you can park right in front of your beach spot for a much shorter gear haul than at many beaches. A fair number of trees for shade. We went for the snorkeling but were disappointed. Very easy entry because of stretches of sand between the rocks and coral. The visibility was good but just not many fish. We tried several stretches but maybe we just didn't find the right place? No sand showers or porta-potties--I guess they'd rather have people peeing in the ocean.
Bethany M — Google review
We’re afraid to get out of our car… the sign clearly says security cameras & no overnight parking, however, this car looks like it’s been here for a while.

Nice protected Cove where you can easily get into snorkel. It was low tide when I was there, so many of the corals were close to the surface. Be careful not to touch them and watch out for sea urchins on the bottom. There is a rocky Beach but also a sand covered entryway where you can walk into the water easily. If you're more experienced and swimming and snorkeling. This is a good place for a beginner. We went there and there were very few people there so this was not a crowded place to be. Parking was free, and there are porta potties to use if you need to use the restroom. There's a historic site there of an Old Sugar Factory as you enter the beach.

I'm not sure where some of the pictures in these reviews came from but I'm glad they didn't dissuade me from going to this beach. This is the perfect beach for young snorkelers of all ages. It has what looks like a natural boat ramp that can be used by babies and some small tide pools if that is too much. On top of that if you wander out a little further the water is shallow and clear with some rocks and small reefs to explore. We didn't see a lot of good fish here but the reefs were nice and there are plenty of small minnows to chase. This is definitely a hit for kids on their first snorkel adventure.
Rick C — Google review
Great place to snorkel! It’s one of the oldest reefs in the islands and it definitely shows it in size and fish variety. The water is calm even out in the reef and you can find turtles if you’re lucky :)

Pull off the side of the road, grab water shoes and snorkel. Done! It’s that easy. The second you put your face in the water, you immediately see sea life. Sea urchins are plentiful, corals, fish, crystal clear waters. Highly recommend bringing some food for a picnic

The waters here are perfect for snorkeling, with easy access to vibrant marine life, including friendly green sea turtles that often grace the area.
We had our wedding on the beach at sunset and this was the perfect place. It was close to our hotel and very quiet. There was plenty of free parking. There are some shaded areas. The sand was very soft and it was a beautiful place to unwind.

Ahihi Cove is a protected area in Maui, part of the Ahihi Kinau Natural Reserve. It offers two snorkeling spots and clear waters with manageable waves. Accessible from the road, visitors can follow a trail to reach the cove or head to a rocky beach nearby. Snorkelers should be mindful of coral preservation and are advised not to expect an abundance of marine life close to shore.
Beautiful! Snorkeling was next magical! A ton of fish, and a wide variety. We saw octopus, angel fish, puffer fish, and lots of large schools of Yellow Tang and other fish. In the parking lot, there was a free 'reef safe' sunscreen dispenser, and parking was only $5. Definitely check it out!
Tiffany R — Google review
Such a gorgeous spot. You walk on rocks so make sure you have proper footwear. There’s a parking lot that you pay $5 for before you get to the cove. The waves were too crazy so we didn’t get to snorkel but it was still beautiful regardless.
Tina C — Google review
Really good snorkelling here. A variety of fish here, very colourful. There’s a parking lot a little bit past the cove and you can walk down from there. It’s $5 a day (cash only) and there’s reef safe sunscreen provided. Lots of rocks and reefs so just be careful. Enter by the yellow fish sign.
Makena L — Google review
One of our favorite spots to snorkel! There is tons of parking in the public parking lot and a trail that leads here. Its an easy entrance with very little waves. The cove is shallow and filled with colorful fish. Great for kids and new snorkelers. We bring floats so we stay off the coral as it os very close. There's no beach here just pebbles.
Marie F — Google review
Absolutely one of the best snorkeling experiences I have ever had in Hawaii. It plan to return again and again.
Bob D — Google review
Snorkeling at Ahihi Cove was an unforgettable experience! The water was incredibly clear, making it easy to see the vibrant marine life. I was lucky enough to spot an octopus—watching it change colors and blend into the rocks was absolutely mesmerizing. There were also so many beautiful tropical fish swimming all around, creating a breathtaking underwater scene. The cove itself is peaceful and feels like a hidden paradise, perfect for snorkeling away from the crowds. I highly recommend this spot for anyone visiting Maui. Can’t wait to return!
Clean C — Google review
It's a preserve so please read the signs and respect the area. For example there are certain places to get in at the beach. Yet we watched many just walk over the reef to get in. Plenty of parking at the pay site and doesn't cost much and goes to a good cause. Street parking very limited. Great snorkeling in a protected cove.
AE — Google review
Top 5 location for Snorkeling on Maui without question!!! The best part about the cove is that it can handle all levels of snorkelers; advanced to the new beginner. Clear water and the sun rays shine through nicely; helping to illuminate any footage you want to capture under water. The cove shape allows for great protection from the wind when it is blowing, so the waves are very minimal. The unique shape of the cove allows you to swim to both sides very easily with a ton of stand alone coral section that protrude out of the water, thus creating a wonderful 360 degree viewing experience. You will see loads of unique fish around the coral; Yellow Tang, Bullethead Parrotfish, Convict Tang, Ringtail Surgeonfish, and so much more. It is easy to park in the parking lot to the South ($5 for non residents), including a sunscreen dispenser on site for free. Very small beach area to sit, but you can enter the cove from the Northeast side and leave your stuff on the rocks easily. It is a very remote area on the road, so your things are safe as tourists are either there to snorkel with you or continue on towards the lava fields.

Kaanapali Beach is simply stunning! Even though I haven't been there since the Lahaina fire, I can assure you that when I visited, it was one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Crystal-clear waters, pristine sand, and breathtaking views make it a must-visit destination.

We like the north part of this world famous beach which is just 100 feet south MK806. You can walk along the beach from Maui Kai or use the access through the park. There is over a mile of Kaanapali Beach north of Black Rock and about half a mile more beach in the hotel area. Literally miles of perfect sand, boardwalks and sunsets.

Maria B — Google review
Beautiful golden beach. We didn't do much exploring but the boardwalk looks to be a great way to see it. Our condo was on the very north end. The water was silty but could still see fish, sea turtles and a shark swam about 6 feet in front of me. It wasn't packed to the gills like Kapalua Bay. There are restaurants the whole way along the boardwalk and places to rent snorkel gear. Take an umbrella as there aren't many opportunities for shade.
Karen T — Google review
Very nice, quaint, quieter beach. Clear water, a fair amount of coral, plentiful fish and eel make it a good beach to enjoy the water, snorkel, and/or chill with some beverages in your tommy bahama. Was able to find some decent shade under trees overhanging the beach. Only issue was there are a fair amount of rocky areas that prove dangerous in wavy conditions. Just be aware of where you enter and you’ll be fine.
Alex S — Google review
This is a fine beach. Our biggest beef with it was that it's hard to find parking over in this area of Maui. You have to pay for parking or snag a rare public parking spot. We found the parking lot here and it actually ended up working out fine. The hardest thing is that the beach is lined with a bunch of hotels, so it can be challenging to figure out where you can access the beach. We sat here on the beach for a bit and also snorkeled. We even saw a couple turtles here.

Great beach to stand up paddle out from. Recommend going super early to avoid the wind. 7am is a good time. If you hug the rocks and have a seat on your board you’re bound to see some turtles. Water is so clear and shallow you can see the coral and all its details. Not a very crowded beach even on weekends. 10/10 recommend and very kid friendly

Sunsets are the best here. Has shower to wash off sand at the top before going down. Stairs are full of sand which is hot so be prepared for that to burn. Couple of picnic tables and small waves. Water is better than kam II. Across from a store that sells drinks and food and a mini shopping center. No shade or chairs. Being your own eveything. Will see a few turtles here and there.

There is a store you can pick up some food from RIGHT across the street and shaved ice. You can also get floating toys$5-10 and snorkeling gear for $15 at the store. There are bathrooms (no soap) and a outdoor shower to clean up on.

Great beach to catch the sunset. Though, keep in mind, that there is a decent crowd that has the same idea. The crowd builds up an hour before sunset, and leaves right after.
Amir L — Google review
Beautiful beach. My daughter had sea turtles swim right up to her every time we visited. If you get there before 11, there is shaded space on the left side of the beach.
Karen R — Google review
Kam I is my favorite beach park. Just a few hundred yards from the Kihei Worldmark Resort and provides plenty of beach and ocean play. It is a great place to float around in the waves just beyond the breakers and is sometimes clear enough to enjoy viewing the turtles as they make their way back and forth between Kam II and Kam III and Charley Young Beach. Boogie boards fit in well with the gentle breakers with an occasional crashing wave that rolls north to south down the beach. The water is great even in winter and sometimes even feels warmer than being out of the water. The tan sand is soft and fine and feels great between the toes and arches of your bare feet. Best place to walk and ground yourself to the earth. Many visitors and residents alike walk up and down the gentle sloping beach letting the water splash on their legs as they get their daily exercise. The Dolphin sailboat, beached nearby, patiently waits for her owner to dig it out of the sand and tow it back into the water where it used to be moored before the December 6th 2021 storm. For us it provided a wind and sun break during the day while laying in the warm sand catching a few rays. Definitely a relaxing place to visit while in Kihei Maui!

Great beach for boogie boarding. Lifeguard was very attentive and keen on preventing accidents. The main beach has rocky areas on either side that the lifeguard warns about regularly. We were there in January and around 2 the wind gets quite intense. Overall a great beach. We went back for a second go! Other reviews say there is a playground, but it is just a swing set. Luckily, the swings are in the shade which makes a nice break!

Makena Beach, also known as Big Beach, is a stunning and spacious beach located in Makena State Park on Maui. It is a popular spot for swimming and snorkeling, offering soft white sand and bright turquoise waves. The beach's sheer size and dramatic scenery make it one of the most beautiful places on the island. Despite its powerful shorebreak, which makes it one of the most dangerous swimming beaches on Maui, many people still consider it their favorite year after year.
Makena Beach is a breathtaking spot with golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and powerful waves that demand respect. The beach is spacious, making it easy to find a quiet spot even when it's busy. Lifeguards are on duty, but the shore break can be intense, so swimming isn't ideal for beginners. Parking is paid, but there's some free street parking if you arrive early. Food trucks nearby offer quick bites, but bring water and shade since there's little natural cover. This is a must-visit for those who love dramatic coastal scenery, but caution is key if you're getting in the water.
Shane P — Google review
Beautiful and perfect if you are not a big ocean swimmer and prefer to just lay and watch the waves. Also beautiful for a sunset and/or evening beach photos. If you like to swim in the ocean but afraid of big, aggressive waves, then this may not be the spot for you. The orange flag was waving the day we visited. The lifeguard came over the intercom announcing to be cautious due to previous injuries that include spinal injuries.

As the name suggests, Big Beach is very spacious, around 0.5 miles long. The sand is soft and great for relaxing. Swimming can be done as well, but only in the right conditions. This beach is known for creating huge, unexpected waves, so only intermediate to strong swimmers should be swimming here.

Amazing beach! Super clear water, soft sand, some shade from the trees, pretty empty with only a few people around. The waves are big! No joke! So be careful going in & out of the water. Big Beach, also known as Oneloa Beach or Makena Beach, is a vast sandy beach located in Makena Beach State Park on southwest Maui. It offers clear waters and opportunities for snorkeling with the chance to spot turtles and various fish species. The beach features a lifeguard on duty, restrooms, food trucks near the parking area, and ample parking space. However, visitors should be cautious of strong waves that can pull and crash hard.
Plenty of space to spread out, but..... - The waves are abusive and the danger signs should be minded. This was by far, the roughest beach visit, every visit. - The wind is like sitting in a human sand blasting machine. Stay closer to the hedge line if you can, you be prepared to hunker down. - Not much in the way of snorkling, just open space and a very unique scenery to enjoy.

Absolutely spectacular Beach to walk on it enjoy laying by the ocean. The Ocean shore break is very strong. The current is also very strong here. Only very strong swimmers should be swimming here. Not crowded, absolutely stunning views. A beach you will always come back to.

Cost 5$ per person and 10$ per car to get in. Beautiful beach! Strong current, be careful when getting into the water.

Amazing quiet beach! Go early because parking is at a premium, also, every time I've been there are clouds in the afternoon. Great Little Beach just over the hill, although there's quite hike involved.

Beautiful beach, make sure you observe the waves before entering. Several years ago I broke my leg when a rouge wave pounded me to the surf. Went on line later to discover that many injuries have occurred on this beach. Please be careful...

The West Maui Mountains, also known as Maui Komohana and Mauna Kahalawai, are a picturesque natural area featuring volcanic peaks, waterfalls, and rare native plants and animals. The mountains offer stunning views that are best seen from a helicopter tour, which provides access to hidden gems like the Wall of Tears with its cascading waterfalls. Additionally, the northwest coast of Maui offers spectacular sights, beautiful beaches, and plenty of recreational activities such as hiking in the mountains or surfing.

The West Maui Mountains or West Maui Volcano as given by the native Hawaiian people is Mauna Kahalewai which means holding house of water. Kahalawai Volcano is a spiritual location known as the quietest location on earth. Considered by those who live in the area as a location that recharges the sole and body. On a clear moonless night the millions of stars that are above light the area to the point were you do not need a artificial light to see. Remember never remove lava rock from any part of the Hawaiian Islands because this is bad luck. No Joke.

Charley Young Beach is a small park and beach located at the northern tip of Kamaole Beach Park. It offers various activities such as swimming, sunbathing, fishing, snorkeling, and boogie boarding. The beach is known for its kid-friendly tide pools with turtle sightings. Visitors can enjoy crafting sandcastles on the soft sands or swimming in the shallow waters. Volleyball and paddleboarding are popular activities on the beach and in the water.
Nice beach with lifeguards, restroom and grocer store across the street. The water gets less clear closer to 11.00am. It’s a lot of turtles swimming near the rocks to the left.

Great beach for swimming. So many turtles on the right-hand side. (Don't touch them though) Current gets pretty strong later in the day, so I'd keep that in mind if you're not an experienced ocean swimmer/snorkeler. Sunsets here are unreal. One of my favorite beaches.

In June of 1966 I had the vacation of my life for a month in Kihei. My Aunt was friends with Betty and Charlie Young. I spent countless hours on this beach and at their house. I was thrown a surprise 14th birthday party by Betty, their Daughter, Diana Young Solomon, neighbors and friends ( the Freitas girls). My bucket list has what is now Charley Young Beach as a place I want to see again. I'm sure that changes and development will make my memories unrecognizable. It was heaven on Earth ♥ I now 73 yrs old 💕

Okay beach there is spoils of beaches on the island this one is bigger beach so more room and feels less crowded. Sometimes there homeless beach of the showers and bathrooms. The water is definitely not clear dirty sandy water. You won’t be able to see turtles like at the other beaches in the water swimming close to shore. I’d head south of here for clear water swimming and snorkeling. Maluaka beach is much less crowded and clear water with turtles swimming by every day I went there multiple spotting of them.

Amazing beach for families. Many kids are boogie boarding and we had lots of fun hanging out on the beach. Hard to find parking though, so the best way is to walk somewhere and walk here.

Good for swimming. Relaxed beach vibe. Outdoor showers to wash up before you leave. Perfect to sit and watch the sunset with a glass of wine too. Small rocky areas for kids to climb on.

Charley Young Beach in Maui offers a tranquil and intimate beach experience, ideal for those seeking a less crowded spot compared to other popular beaches. Located at the northern end of Kamaole I Beach in Kihei, this beach features golden sands and crystal-clear waters, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. The beach is known for its calm conditions, especially in the morning, and you might even spot Hawaiian green sea turtles while snorkeling. Parking is convenient, with a small lot available just off South Kihei Road. Amenities include portable toilets, showers, and a grassy area for picnics. While it lacks some of the facilities of larger beaches, its serene atmosphere and natural beauty make it a standout spot. Despite the occasional rocky areas, Charley Young Beach is perfect for bodyboarding and surfing when the conditions are right. Its location near residential neighborhoods provides a peaceful retreat, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. For the best experience, arrive early to secure parking and enjoy the serene morning waters. Overall, Charley Young Beach is a hidden gem in South Maui, offering a peaceful escape with stunning views and excellent opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with the Four Winds Molokini Maui Snorkel Tour, where you can witness the majestic migration of humpback whales from Alaska during a 3.5-hour excursion aboard the Four Winds II catamaran. Choose between morning and afternoon tours that promise either a serene or exhilarating experience, complete with a delicious BBQ meal.
This was the best boat experience my family and I ever had. The snorkeling was fantastic but the whale watching was a once in a lifetime. We were extremely lucky to have three whales put on a fantastic show for us but it was the staff that also made it unbelievable. The Captain knew exactly how to position the boat so everyone could see. The rest of the staff was radiating positive energy. It was hard to not be excited! Thank you Four Winds for a once in a lifetime experience!

We just had the best day on the Four Winds. The staff was awesome, and the food was amazing! All 6 of us were very impressed. The weather conditions were perfect and we got to spend a lot of time in the water snorkeling, or going down the slide off the back of the boat. Highly recommend this company!

5+ stars all the way!!! Our family of 4 (me, hubby, 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter) had the best time on the AM snorkel trip to Molokini on Aug 24th. The Four Winds III boat is immaculate. Spotless and plenty of space for all. My family loved the slide! The entire crew is amazing. We felt safe at all times. Ally the photographer was fantastic too! Paying extra for this tour is worth it! Note: to see more colorful fish, you have to swim close to the crater/reefs.
Kristine H — Google review
After much research and reading reviews we made a last minute decision to book with Four Winds. My wife does not like snorkeling however Four Winds offers a floating device with a window so she can she the reef and fish. This was a game changer for her. I snorkeled while she floated and watched the fish. She equated it to a personal aquarium. Jena and the crew were awesome. It was a beautiful day for an excursion to Molikini. Brian did an awesome job as the bartender and with lunch. Great opportunity to Snuba if you want to give it a try. Brian gave a snorkeling refresher class for those that needed it. On the way back Jena got word of a momma whale and calf, she headed that direction. Everyone was able to see both the mother and calf. The calf was very active. It was a fantastic trip, with only 25 people on board it seemed like a private excursion. I'd highly recommend booking with Four Winds!!!

I wish I could give this charter 10 stars! I am absolutely blown away by both the crew and the boat. From the moment we stepped on board, the level of service was nothing short of phenomenal. Every single detail is handled with such care and professionalism, and their dedication to creating an unforgettable experience truly shines through. I’ve been on many charters throughout my life, and this one stands out as the best by far. The boat itself is stunning — impeccably maintained, beautifully designed, and equipped with everything you could possibly need for a perfect day on the water. But what really sets this experience apart is the crew. They are warm, attentive, incredibly knowledgeable, and go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and taken care of. And then there are the destinations. The places this charter takes you to are absolutely breathtaking, offering those rare, once-in-a-lifetime moments you’ll never forget. Whether it’s the crystal-clear water, the limitless amount of fish, or the unreal views, every part of the journey feels magical. I can’t recommend this charter highly enough — it’s truly an experience you’ll be talking about long after it’s over.

The fish and pork tacos were absolutely delicious! A unique way to stand out among other deli sandwich trips. We were lucky and saw a rare monk seal sighting! Also a few late season whales at the end of April way off in the distance. This is our second snorkeling trip and glad we picked this one for Maui! Always a highlight of the trip-- don't miss out on getting out on the water!
Alison — Google review
I had the best time on this beautiful new boat. Everything is top notch. The staff is attentive and friendly. You really do not need to bring your own snorkel gear. They have it all. You can even do snuba( if you don’t know what that is it is a system where the air tanks is on top of the water with a line that goes down, allowing you to have air below without a tank on your back) if you choose to pay a little extra it’s a pretty cool experience. If you’re ever, considering taking scuba diving lessons this is a great opportunity to see how you feel about being under the water. Everything was a great experience, and then you had a wonderful meal and drinks after your Snorkel. I highly recommend this snorkel tour.

So glad we chose Four Winds, we did so much research before our trip and we were overwhelmed with all the options. But, we decided on Four Winds and we totally made the right choice. The food was amazing, the crew was fantastic, and the overall experience was totally worth the price. You can tell the crew wants everyone to have a good time, and is so patient. It was a smaller crowd on the boat compared to a few other boats loading at the same time, so we loved not having an overcrowded experience. The underwater photographer is totally worth it if you want to spend a little extra.

Located just off Front Street in Lahaina, 3 miles south of Ka'anapali, Baby Beach is a long stretch of calm, reef-protected beach with darker sand and a view of other islands. It's lined with tall palm trees and offers street parking. While it can be narrow during high tide, it's perfect for small groups and morning sessions. There are no restrooms on site.
This place is great for first-time snorkeling. It is a pretty safe cove surrounded by rocks. Would've been great if there wasn't a jackhammer fishing there. Overall, people were letting their babies play in the water, i got bit by a Picasso trigger fish, wasn't to bad, I guess he was mad lol. Great experience!
David T — Google review
Visited Baby beach whilst we stayed in Lahaina with my partner in May 2023. We both loved it the conditions were perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Baby beach is perfect for kids and beginners for snorkeling, the variety of fish species that you can see is amazing. Saw Green sea turtles one swam past me whilst snorkeling just a couple meters away, a sight I will never forget. I wished I got it on camera but went into the sea a day or before and forgot my cell phone was in my pocket, It's fair to say my cell phone didn't like that. We walked along the beach which was lovely with views towards the island of Lanai which were beautiful. There isn't alot of parking but it's never usually that busy, but it's great for families for a day at the beach. You may even find some sea shells whilst your snorkeling. I would highly recommend a day at baby beach, but not sure if you can with the wild fires that devastated Lahaina 😓 I would chech first. I am super honoured to have been able to visit baby beach and Lahaina. Steve and Jacqui fae Fife.

I used to frequent this beach a lot as a child, mainly due to the always calm waters and soft sand. "Baby Beach" stretches from the Mala Wharf south towards Lahaina. The entire beach is super calm due to a protective reef. Parking is a pain because private homes line the beach, so it's all residential street parking. There are no restrooms or facilities of any kind, so you gotta rough it! There are awesome sunsets and a killer view of Lana'i. TIP: The north end of the beach near the houses unfortunately attracts tourist weddings. We were bombarded by no less than 3 on one afternoon. What a sunset ruiner!
Maui T — Google review
This is a really wonderful beach, but it is small. The waves are small and calm and the water is very shallow for quite a ways out. There is a reef so great for snorkeling and seeing fish. There is a small homeless camp that has a few unhoused persons who were respectful and were cleaning the beach when we were there. They were totally not an issue for me or my family. There are also quite a few chickens around which were fun to watch! Right next to it is a cemetery so if you park next to that, you’re in the right spot.

Awesome beach for calm water and snorkeling with the kids. Water is crystal clear and there are plenty of reefs to view fish close to the beach.

Both week days and weekends we were there. Free beach access. Calm waters for kids and older people. Sandy beach with light waves. Snorkeling resulted in fish of different colors but not many. Saw a few sea turtles from this location no far off shore. Dogs on beach living their beat life with the families. Friendly and safe. Took 2 chairs and a cooler. Beautiful beach to relax and het a tan. No restrooms. No life quard. Free Parking along street. No beach parking lot. Had no problem with parking. Visited about 7 times on our month vacation.

Children friendly and great views. Our family of 8 with 3 young children, all enjoyed this beach. Most everyone there were also families with young children. Parking was close to the beach, but there was limited parking, show up a little early yo get a good spot. Free parking though. You can see three other islands from this vantage point. There is also decent snorkeling, we even saw several sea turtles here. We came back a couple days later after trying others beaches, seemed to be the best fit for our family. Bring snacks & drinks because there is nothing available near by. Also bring an umbrella for shade, trees are limited. If you have young children, I highly recommend this beach.

Nice beach park with plenty of parking for day use when I visited in the late afternoon on a weekend. Great place to watch the sunset. Nice paved walking trails that you can go pretty far past a lot of nice hotels. Even watch a free luau.

Ulua Beach is an excellent place to snorkel on Maui. We've tried many of the different places over the years ( Black Rock, Ahihi, Turtle Town, Airport Beach, Po'olenalena, MM14, Charley Young Beach, Kam 1-3 and others); Ulua beach is our new favorite. As shown in the picture, there is a large reef ( red circle ) to snorkel along with a distinct edge / drop off where you can see tons of coral, fish, sea urchins ( black, red, zebra striped ) as well as turtles with some regularity. There is public parking ( blue and purple lines ), clean bathrooms, and a nice outdoor shower for rinsing off the salt water. If you are in the Kihei or Wailea area and want to snorkel, this is a great place to do it.

Ulua Beach Park in Maui is a tropical paradise that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. A lot of small fishes and baby sea urchins by the rock. If you are lucky, big sea turtle may dhow up too!
MEI W — Google review
Ulua beach is located in Wailea. It is one of the few beaches from the Maui’s west coast were you have a chance to find a parking place in the free parking area near the right side of the beach. I think that this beach is usually used by the tourists that live in the big condos complex nearby having their cars parked in front of the condos. The beach is long (300 meters) and large enough so it is not crowded. The right side is very good for snorkeling but when there are no waves. There is an extended reef about 100 m off the shore, but the water over the reef is shallow and snorkeling could be dangerous even were the waves do not appear to be too big. Also there is a traverse current pushing you to the right towards the emerged rocks that are limiting the right side of Ulua beach. In that day there were disturbing waves so we tried to snorkel only on the left side of the reef were the water was deep enough. We had two rounds of snorkeling (about 2.5 hours in total) but we struggled al the time against the lateral pushing current and it is not quite a peaceful snorkel time. Also the water was not very clear. Not so many fish but an interesting underwater landscape. On my snorkeling marking scale in that day the score for Ulua Beach were 4 from a maximum of 5 point. In good weather conditions it cut be a 4.5 snorkeling area.

Been one of my absolute favorite places since the little kid. It's my family Graves. Great for snorkeling great for fishing and for shelling order best of all even to catch a beautiful sunset.
Puaena P — Google review
Wouldn't snorkle here as you may damage coral getting in. Cool outlooks and pretty pools. Would be a good sunset spot. There are Graves at entrance you'll be able to see that has been built around which is odd, understandably upsetting as these are historic graves (circa 1800s). Parking across street off on side of road.
Jason F — Google review
The best snorkeling on Maui! Amazing coral and lava formations. Lots of fish. We saw about 25 turtles swimming around or sleeping under ledges. Definitely wear dive boots if you enter via the empty lot across from the parking. There are big rocks and lots of tiny sea urchins that will wreck your bare feet. If you're looking for an easier way to get to the water (besides a boat tour), go down the street to the beach. It will be a longer swim to the good snorkeling area, but easier to get in and out. There are long lava flows that go out from the rock points you see on land. They are covered with coral and also have some interesting ledge under them to explore if you're able to dive down 20 feet and hold your breath. As for the caves, maybe I missed them. I saw a few small swim throughs and deep ledges, but that's it. I plan on going back later with my scuba gear since the water does drop off to 40+ feet.
Nick N — Google review
This is a great spot to see sea turtles, if the waves are too high I would suggest not getting in the water but it's very beautiful and if the water isn't too rough it's very serene and clear for seeing sea life and snorkeling. Find you where we were there wasn't a lot of sandy beaches so keep in mind to wear shoes. :-)
T- M — Google review
We snorkelled here. Although the entry looked somewhat dangerous, with sharp lava rocks, it turned out to be easier than it looked. From there we snorkelled all around the point and saw an abundance of fish and coral as well as three sea turtles. Added bonus, there was almost no one else around (visited in November). Very cool spot and very doable for our novice group of snorkellers.

We took a snorkeling trip on the Calypso from Maaleaa Harbor to Molokini and "turtle town", which we really enjoyed. Great spot to snorkel. How often to do you get to say I snorkeled in the ramanent remains of a volcano? It's badass. The fish here are ugly as hell tho. All black and brown.. nothing special. But hey it's the steam hole of a historic volcano. So enjoy yourselves and live to tell the story another day For snorkeling, we used the Calypso ship. Triple Decker with two water slides with buffet style breakfast and lunch. Not bad. Crowded for sure and full of kids. If you want a more romantic experience go with a semi private chapter of smaller groups without the kids.

Great snorkeling spot. Book with Four Winds for the best excursion experience. The water is crystal clear! Numerous fishe and even a baby octopus. We saw a whale calf and mother on the way back.

Definitely recommend snorkeling at Molokini. Just one of those things you have to do. The reef isn’t as colorful as you would expect but it is a lot of hard coral. Also it is sad a lot of people don’t use reef safe sunscreen when out there and I think tour companies do a bad job at explaining why it matters that you do.

We docked at the Molokini Crater to rip a quick snorkeling trip. I've never been much of a snorkeler, as I have what is likely the worst case of thalassophobia that any human being has ever contracted. The ocean scares me more than I can put into words. However, if my Mom is going to go snorkeling, what would I look like backing out? We got our snorkel gear on, and I made my Dad jump in first to make sure there were no apex predators waiting to swoop the first thing that came off the boat. Once I saw him chilling there for about 30 seconds, I jumped in hella nonchalant. But when my 5'10.5 176 lb orangutan-like frame submerged in the water, I went straight into fight or flight. When you looked at the ocean floor below, you could see a submerged cliff that dropped straight down. All you could see was the vicious, unknown, and unforgiving deep blue. The most unsettling feeling I have ever had. What is down there? What is coming for me? I'm just floating here like a sitting duck? HELL NAH! I closed my eyes and made a beeline STRAIGHT for the shore about 40 yards away, where there were 30+ other tourists snorkeling peacefully. Once I made sure there were at least 5 other people a shark would take out first, my heart rate started to stabilize. I began to appreciate the bustling life in this crescent shaped volcanic crater that is a protected marine life conservation district. I saw 100s of fish that I didn't know existed. When the rest of my family and local Hawaiian tour guide, Bailey, caught up with us, I began PEPPERING him with questions. 'What fish is that? How about that one? Why is it named trigger fish? What's the coolest thing you've ever seen here? Does it get old doing the same tour over and over again?" Bro HAD to be so annoyed with me, but I just couldn't help it. He was so passionate, engaging, and knowledgeable. Shoutout to Bailey. My favorite fish I saw was this vibrant, multicolored fish that genuinely looked fake. It looked just like that Rainbow Fish from that book. I followed it around for 10 minutes, and asked Bailey what type of fish it was. "That's a Parrot Fish! It actually is one of the few fish that can change its gender as a part of its natural life cycle. They also eat algae off of rocks that smother and kill coral reefs, and then they poop fine sand which is a major reason for many tropical beaches." I asked if Parrot Fish tasted good and he said "OH YEAH... well they are a bit of an acquired taste, but I love them." Bro is an encyclopedia. I arrived at Molokini Island scared to death of the deep blue, and also left the same way, but with a good amount of knowledge on Parrot Fish. This is what life is all about... Really clear waters but to be honest a bit disappointing for snorkeling. We went with a big boat (about 70 of us) and it felt a bit crowded. It is supposedly one of the most biodiverse snorkels but I guess we were unlucky. Really didn’t see much. The snorkeling we did off a canoe near our hotel was a lot more interesting

Wow! Went there yesterday- water was warm and calm. Snorkeling was amazing- can see 100 feet down. ♥️

Wahikuli Wayside Park is a waterfront public park that provides BBQ grills, picnic pavilions, outdoor showers, and restrooms. Along with Laninpoko State Wayside Park, it offers lovely grassy picnic areas with barbecues and walking paths. While it may not have beaches, the park makes up for it with fantastic surfing spots.
Looking for a table with a view over the beach and restrooms,.easy parking (noon-ish on mid-week). Nice, nice rest stop for a lunch or just hanging out. Clean restrooms too.

As visitors from California, attended Calvary Chapel West Maui today for church. Can't think of a better way to attend church than on the beach. Pastor Steve was friendly and warm to talk with.

Beautiful park space to watch the sunset. It has restrooms, free parking, and a sandy beach (not very wide). There is a lifeguard.
DeWitt G — Google review
The park and beach were clean and nice. The parkings was adequate. The snorkeling at this spot is not great, and this may not be the best place to bring younger kids if they aren't strong swimmers since there can be sneaker waves and it gets over 6 feet deep only a few yards into the water.

Wahikuli Park is a pretty long and narrow stretch of beach along Highway 30 that fronts the Lahaina Post Office and goes north towards Kaanapali and a bit south towards Lahaina. There are restroom facilities, showers and charcoal grills. It's pretty good for body and boogie boarding though the area south is all rocks. The sea floor drops pretty quickly from shore so it's not recommended for little ones. Being so close to the highway, some parts can be super noisy with tons of cars whizzing by. You still get the killer sunsets though.

This was a great park with a nice walk by the ocean. It is a great place for a picnic. We enjoyed the small and calm beach. The best part was seeing all of the turtles swimming by the rocks.

We used this lovely and very accessible beach for a pre-wedding photoshoot at sunset. There was no sun, overcast and sprinkles of rain. No spectacular sunset, but quite spectacular images. (The bride is a fitness instructor and weight lifter.) A very good place.

Had a great time here today! They have lots of shade by the park, picnic tables, restrooms and showers. We saw a turtle basking in the warmth of the sand and sun, and another one while snorkeling. Gentle waves, great for the family.

Beach
Tucked away behind luxury vacation homes in Makena, Chang's Beach is a serene cove with a small stretch of golden sand perfect for uninterrupted sunbathing. Despite its hidden location and limited parking, this beach offers tranquility and great swimming and snorkeling opportunities. The area is known for its peaceful atmosphere compared to the more popular nearby beaches in Wailea and Kihei.
Overall a great experience. Clear water, lots of turtles, not so crowded, and showers are convenient. Parking is limited.
Wanyi S — Google review
A great wide and long beach. It’s very picturesque and was super quiet when we visited in early February. There were some waves when we were here so it wasn’t great for snorkeling but we still saw a turtle near the shore.
Iliana R — Google review
Best beach I visited in Maui. Good waves for body boards and body surfing. Turtles are right around the corner too. Just go around the southern rocks and reef to see them. They even come to the beach if you don’t want to snorkel.
John L — Google review
People are super friendly. They have a drum circle to the right, through the rocks. Then they have fire twirling at night to the left.
Mike Y — Google review
I love this beach! Snorkel in the wild with the turtles! Beautiful sandy beaches. Nude beach parties(hike to the right to find the nude beach) fire dancers, you never know what you might experience.
Debbie R — Google review
One of the beaches that I love to video call my friends and family from. There are beautiful lava rock formations along the beach, on the far north end of Changs Beach is a semi secluded paradise the locals call Secret Beach. Similar to Little Beach, there may be nude sunbathers soaking in the rays. Plenty of parking inside the gate and often people park outside the gate if they plan to stay after sunset as the gate gets locked by 8pm. There is one porto-poty inside the entrance. The parking lot is all gravel and quite unlevel. There are plenty of trees and greenery all over so you can find shade for all those fair skinned beauties. The sunsets are magnificent and unforgettable at this location. I believe that is what draws the newlyweds and their photographer here daily. Picture postcard perfect.

This beach is pretty quiet compared to the others. The waves are great for body surfing and boogies boarding. And snorkeling in the morning you can usually see lots of turtles!
Ben — Google review
If you're looking for turtles this is the only place I ever saw them while snorkeling--and I saw 20, maybe more... I went at 8 am. Start at the south end, go out a few hundred feet following the rock/coral boundary and you will see a million of them!
