Mountains
Mount Yufu, also known as Oita's Mt. Fuji, is a prominent stratovolcano and a local landmark for hiking. It is an extinct volcano with an interesting tale from ancient times when the area was once a lake. The goddess of Mount Yufu ordered the creation of a rift in the surrounding mountains to drain the area, leaving behind Lake Kinrin.
One of the most beautiful mountains we have seen in Japan. The lower portion of the trailhead is wonderful for photos, easy and perfect for a short hike for families with very young kids.
Stuart C — Google review
A good, but challenging walk up to the summit. You arrive just below the two peaks , East or West which are are shorter but much harder final ascent. Views are beautiful below.
Vincent O — Google review
Finished this hike today started at the South main trail head, managed to hit both west and east peak as well and got to the bottom in 4.5hours. the view was incredible and the hike was a fun little challenge. We did it without gear and proper hiking shoes. The only risky part of the hike is the west peak chain section. Highly recommend for any avid hikers
Timothy T — Google review
Cool place. for hiking, relaxation. Hiking to the mountain, little one takes around 2hrs roundway. The large one takes 4-6 hrs roundway. there are special routes you can take. Inside the large one, you can see deers inside.
Boburkhon K — Google review
Wrinting review so late. Sorry, we climbed it on last February. The weather didn’t support us. Though, the road was quite slippery. You need some gear to climb it properly.

Came here as part of a tour package, has very nice views of the Mount Yufu. Beautiful and spectacular.
SL W — Google review
Amazing hike. A bit challenging depending on physical activity. We took a way trough the forest the day down, can be done, it’s more challenging and indication is by ribbon but definite can be done. The view is incredible, for the more physically fit, both summits are reachable.
Davide C — Google review
Nice & quiet Saturday summer hike. Relaxed climb up to the 'Y-junction' in between the two mountains with a fair bit of rock scrambling with metal chains nearing summit. Amazing view once the clouds cleared.

Cake shop
Donut shop
B-speak, located at the Beppu Bay Service Station in Japan, is a popular spot known for its legendary Swiss roll. The store uses only four ingredients to make their butter and offers a not-too-sweet cream. Visitors rave about the unbelievably soft sponge and delicious whipped cream that melts in your mouth. It's recommended to arrive early or even call ahead to reserve as they tend to sell out quickly.
Definitely worth the hype. Apart from the croquettes that are a must-eat when visiting here in Yufuin, this is surely the other must-eat item! A swiss roll like no other! Super yummy - it's soft, taste is just right, not overly sweet, and most importantly, not the least bit too rich at all! It tends to finish early so be sure to be fairly early to catch it in the first half of the day. If driving and coming by for takeaways, parking is across the street down a narrow, almost hidden lane. But signs are there ro direct.
Garett L — Google review
Everyone recommended the swiss roll cake from this shop, but they only sell it as a whole and not sliced. Too bad - probably next time.
Otto L — Google review
Went at 3pm and they had a whole role available. Ate it at 8pm in our room and the three of us INHALED it, it was the best roll cake of our lives. So soft and fluffy and not very sweet. We will be thinking of this cake for a long time…
G C — Google review
Came back after almost 10 years still want to try the roll again. As expected, original flavor roll is soft and bouncy. Cream in between is the central theme. They can maintain the quality in all these years. However, as customers bought these ‘not cheapo’ confectionery, giving complimentary one set of fork and knife is basic, however, they have to charge them extra. This makes experience looks incomplete. See if they reconsider giving complimentary fork and knives on demand.
Sunny S — Google review
They are known for the B-speak soft and fluffy roll which is supposed to be soft and has a rich taste, the fresh cream filling. It's almost too beautiful to eat, especially with the packaging. They also offer cheesecake. In the same shop they sells Theomurata chocolates in various flavors, and the tea room offering of fruit and chocolate ice cream looks so good in the poster photo. It's not cheap but so elegant even the shop setting and decor.
Saifu A — Google review
You will hit B-speak on your way into the main shopping street. When we got there before the first Mori train arrived, stocks were aplenty. When we returned around 4pm, the plain rolls were sold out by then. Yes, they only sell by the roll but you can get the smaller slices onboard Mori and while stocks last.
Alvin L — Google review
Amazing egg roll. Must-try in my opinion. The cream was creamy yet light, while the cake was fluffy, soft, and eggy. Balance between cake and cream was also perfect. We got the original flavour. Ordering strategy is to get there early and then order first. Then pickup from the store when you are done exploring the area. We got to the store at around 1130am. You might be able to call and reserve a day before, but not sure. Will sell out if you go to the store too late. Would come and buy again for sure.
Ryan C — Google review
the BIG hype of the B-speak soft and fluffy P-roll, let's try ! YES, the rich taste (chocolate roll), the softness, and the fresh cream are all excellent quality (arguably, the best). the ice pack is handy and allows us to roam around with the roll for few hours before we return to the resort. we ate the first half on the same day, which was very good; then we finished the second half the next day, which was still good+ ! wish they have more outlets and we could get the roll as easy !

Dessert shop
Pastry shop
Milch is a cozy bakery and dessert shop in Yufuin known for its German-style mini-cheesecakes made with local dairy products. The shop is located near Trick 3D art Yufuin along Yunotsubokaido street, and it has an open kitchen where visitors can watch the chefs at work using milk from local farms.
Knew this place from online recommendation, and its not dissaponting at all. Plus : hot cheese cake is SUPERB! Fluffy, soft and hot. Love it. Chocolate pudding and pistachio cream cheese are also good. Minus : the queue is long
Angelia T — Google review
I ordered this cheesecake and pistachio cheese cup. Both were delicious!! But the pistachio one was too good that I had to come back and bought another 2 cups!! It’s not too sweet. The creamy part was very soft and yummy!!
C K — Google review
A popular cheesecake store. It comes in a cup and served warm if you’re eating immediately. If you want it cold, you have to get the takeaway boxes which comes in a set. Very creamy, bottom layer comprises of the sweet biscuits and cake mix. Interesting texture but slightly sweet, happy I got 1 instead of the whole set which was tempting!
C — Google review
Must try!!! A cheese cake cup that melts in your mouth. Very soft and creamy texture, rich in aroma, and not to sweet. The kase pudding was also delicious with many texture, but I prefer the cup cheese cake more. 🥰
Pimchanok P — Google review
Milch will probably be the first stall that commands a queue when you arrived. Not to be confused with the Milch nearer to the station. The queue is for their baked cheesecake, a ramekin sized semi formed soft cake that sits on a warmer after exiting the oven. Patrons can eat in (around the shop) or takeout. They have other seasonal flavours such as matcha, chocolate and pistachio when I was there.
Alvin L — Google review
Milch in Yufuin is known for its delicious, creamy cheesecake that’s rich and slightly runny, making it a real treat. However, the wait can be quite long—expect around 20 to 30 minutes for a takeaway order. There isn’t a designated place to sit and enjoy it, so you’ll have to eat it on the street, which can be a bit of a hassle. Despite the wait, the cheesecake is definitely worth it if you’re craving a sweet treat, just be prepared for the queue! If you happen to visit during a quieter time, you’ll have an even better experience.
J C — Google review
Very famous dessert shop in Yufuin, I waited for near half hour for the queue. I tasted 2 Lava Cheese Cakes & Milk Pudding & Lava Matcha Cake, they were delicious😋~ So it’s worth to spend some time for waiting.
Issac T — Google review
Pudding is creamy and delicious. The caramel sauce isn’t too sweet not bitter. Yummy.

Beppu Park is a serene and expansive public green space in the heart of the city, offering a peaceful escape amidst nature. The park features traditional Japanese garden elements such as ponds, bridges, and beautifully manicured landscapes, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant displays of cherry blossoms and plum blossoms during their respective blooming seasons.
Beppu Park is a large park located in the heart of the city. Citizens or tourists can enter for free. Let me tell you, anyone who likes nature and tranquility or escapes the hustle and bustle. You can come for a relaxing walk. Or come have a picnic and enjoy the natural atmosphere here. There are many other species of trees in this park. Including cherry trees, bamboo forests, and even a pond in the middle of the park. It is famous for its beauty during cherry blossom season. And if you go during the autumn leaves changing colors, it will be beautiful in a different way.
Kritanan S — Google review
This park is one of the best places I’ve been during my time at Beppu. It is early April and there are still a lot of beautiful Sakura trees and flowers in the park. The pictures I took are amazing and you guys are welcome to use them if you like. Please comment or like if you like my photos😊😊
Alisolo — Google review
Beautiful park in the center of Beppu. The bamboo grove is magnificent during the spring and early summer. So peaceful, worth a nice walk around. Very well taken care of and there are public restrooms too.
ItzMe — Google review
Good sized park with plenty of fun winding trails with different landscapes that evolve with the seasons. Good place for walkers and runners that have both steady and alternating slopes depending on the trail you take. One of my favorite sections is the mini bamboo forest. It is nice and tall and is thoughtfully landscaped with intentional maple trees placed in between. Well worth a visit if you're in Beppu!
Richard N — Google review
I went last Saturday, it was farmers market too on that day. Tbh it was crowded but the place is nice. You can hangout, do picnics. Or do exercise too ig. A interesting fact is there was military base, but it's impossible to say it now that it used to be a military base. This place is hella pretty on Sakura.
Umme T — Google review
Beautiful park, lots of ppl here for a walk/jog. Many bring their dogs along as well. Would be more beautiful during spring or autumn.
Jo J — Google review
Wonderful park with stunning vegetation and hot springs in various colors. Get there early for the best lighting for your photos.
John C — Google review
Peace and tranquility in the middle of the city. The park was far better than what I had anticipated. There were many walking trails throughout the park including a restroom. Despite a hot sunny humid day, it actually felt pretty cool walking in the park due to all the shade. The backdrop of the mountains was just beautiful as well. There were many vistas such as the bamboo forest and pine trees. Definitely worth a visit while in Beppu.

Yakiniku restaurant
Barbecue restaurant
Wasak is a highly recommended yakiniku restaurant in Yufuin known for its friendly and helpful service. The staff, many of whom speak fluent English, provide great suggestions on the menu. The premium wagyu meat platter and the high-quality Oita beef are particularly popular choices. Diners also praise the refreshing radish salad with plum dressing and the local beer served at Wasak. The restaurant offers yakiniku tables where guests can grill their own food, adding to the overall experience.
We made a reservation at the Wasaku. We where very lucky that we got a table. So we ordered a set and some other meat because we wanted to try also other meat. The quality of the meat was great. And also that you can barbecue it by yourself. The services was excellent and all of the staff can speak really good English. So we had a great time here. Make a reservation and enjoy a greater evening.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere was great, and the staff were so nice. They even helped me remove a bbq stain off my white T-shirt! We really recommend this place!
Synnøve K — Google review
Visited for dinner and was impressed by the variety on the menu. The shrimp , shell were fresh, and the BBQ was delicious. The restaurant has a cozy ambiance perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. Staff was professional and accommodating. Will definitely be back to try more dishes

My third time to visit Wasaku❤️ thanks for the boss and let me walk-in to make reservations 😖 Beef is still remaining high quality , especially beef tongue 👅 Foreign visitor menu super recommend !! I definitely will be back again
米米吃喝玩樂 — Google review
Afraid that maybe hard to find a restaurant for dinner during the cherry blossom season, I made a reservation at least a month before. Appreciate for the excellent service, they would keep checking if the customers ask for any assistance. The food is tasty and price reasonable for this tourist spot. I spent around JPY11000 to order two beef sets for two persons.
VC C — Google review
The beef and sauces here were absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the Boss Set and 2 different individual serves of beef. The premium wagyu had an unbelievable marble. The tenderness and flavour were amazing.
Rochelle W — Google review
The food was delicious and the people were very friendly! Most of the staff spoke fluent English and the owner was extremely helpful. The beef was melt in your mouth delicious and super high quality. The local beer was also really good. We will be back!
Skye S — Google review
Friendly helpful service with great suggestions. We went for the premium wagyu meat platter (with 3 types - 3 pieces each) and took the recommendation from the waitor and got a plate of the premium beef (cant remember what its called but it was the second most expensive one). The radish salad with plum dressing was very refreshing. Highly recommend this place. Bonus: There was a friendly cat at the car park who sent us off

Nestled in the picturesque town of Yufuin, Yufuin Floral Village is a delightful theme park that transports visitors to the charming countryside of England's Cotswolds. This enchanting destination features quaint shops and cafes, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls and unique shopping experiences.
The shop sells a variety of Studio Ghibli and popular cartoon merchandise, which is quite common in many Asian cities and not particularly unique. However, the Owl Exhibition Hall (ticket: 900 yen) was one of the most memorable highlights of my trip. Inside, there are more than a dozen real owls that you can touch and take photos with—an exciting and rare experience. It’s probably the most unusual animal encounter I’ve ever had. I highly recommend visiting the Owl Hall.
Ethan E — Google review
I really liked the view and overall vibe of Yufuin. The scenery is beautiful, especially around Mount Yufu and Kinrin Lake — it feels calm and relaxing, perfect for a slow walk or a morning coffee. But honestly, the main street is mostly for shopping, with a lot of souvenir stores and cute cafés. It’s nice to look around for a bit, but since I’m not really into shopping, I didn’t find much else to do. Still, the atmosphere and landscape make the trip worth it, especially if you go early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Nattapob P — Google review
Tucked away in the scenic hot spring town of Yufuin, the Yufuin Floral Village feels like you’ve stepped directly into the pages of a fairy tale. From the moment you walk through the entrance, the storybook vibe is undeniable. Cobblestone pathways wind between half-timbered cottages draped in vibrant flowers, with babbling streams and quaint bridges completing the picture-perfect scene. It’s an Instagrammer's dream, but more than that, it’s a truly enchanting experience. The village is a delightful area for shopping and dining. The numerous small shops are a treasure trove of unique souvenirs, from local crafts and whimsical trinkets you won’t find anywhere else. For pop culture fans, the themed shops are a major highlight. You can browse a charming Harry Potter-themed shop for a touch of wizardry and then step into the beloved world of Studio Ghibli at the Totoro shop, which is always a crowd-pleaser. The magic is especially potent for little ones. My kids were utterly captivated by the Snoopy Cafe, with its adorable Peanuts-themed treats and decor, and the Miffy Bakery, where everything is almost too cute to eat. While it’s not a large theme park, the density of charm is impressive. I found that spending 2 to 3 hours here is perfect. This gives you ample time to leisurely explore every nook and cranny, pop into the shops that catch your eye, enjoy a snack or a meal, and simply soak in the delightful atmosphere without feeling rushed.
Sorlo S — Google review
Yes, it's a hotel with an entrance inside the Earth Market. Try your best to hit this spot before the main tourist group descends or preparing to get used to manoeuvring the crowded alleyways. The village has a cute atmosphere, with mini farms, animal cafes and numerous shops selling Ghibli products. Everyone is taking photos every few steps. It is not a very big place. Unless you are entering and looking into every shop, you can cover this in less than an hour.
Alvin L — Google review
Yufuin Floral Village is a charming, storybook-like destination that feels like stepping into a European fairy tale right in Japan! The quaint cobblestone paths, colorful flowers, and cottage-style shops create a magical atmosphere perfect for strolling and taking photos. Each little shop is uniquely themed—selling souvenirs, sweets, and crafts—and there are even spots inspired by famous characters like Peter Rabbit and Studio Ghibli. While small in size, the village is beautifully detailed and full of charm. It’s a wonderful stop when visiting Yufuin, especially for families, couples, or anyone who loves a whimsical experience. A delightful hidden gem!
Kath — Google review
Visited the floral village to have a look at the Ghibli items and it did not disappoint! The little huts were classified by the different Ghibli movies and there was a wide selection available. Granted, the prices for some of the items were rather high (especially the paper theatres), but there are still smaller items that were more affordable. We bought a Totoro towel for ¥660 which wasn't too bad. Even if you aren't looking to buy anything, it's still worth a visit to admire the lovely place.
Jonathan C — Google review
Really nice and interesting place to visit, even that it is a shopping g street. You can find lots of options of Japanese food and condiments, as well as walk for a moment and enjoy the view. For the manga lovers, there are several options that are so great to buy, as souvenirs and something to take away and remember your visit.
Jonatan V — Google review
Crammed, fake, touristy… basically any adjectives you can come up with about Ghibli films - but the exact opposite of them. Each shop looks just about alright from the outside, and the second you decided to go inside it turns into Temu, selling you low-grade Ghibli merch. Next to these shops are some chained goats. These poor things are destined to be stuck in the extremely confined space, forced to be watched by the tourists who are like a feet away from it. This is the kind of Ghibli children get during the Great Depression. The biggest surprise I get from this place? An even bigger merch shop… that sells a man-sized, fake purple crystal🙏 . Yea I’d love to carry that thing and walk all the way through Yunotsubo street. Or just parcel it to my home, I don’t know, cuz I’m a moron.

When exploring Yufuin, a charming town renowned for its soothing hot springs, don’t miss out on the delightful local snacks that are as beautiful as they are tasty. These adorable Japanese sweets often incorporate elements of the hot springs and make for perfect gifts or unique souvenirs to take home. (Translated by Google) After purchasing retort meals and diapers for the children while sightseeing, we parked the car and went sightseeing nearby. I wasn't told anything about parking ticket discounts, so I went back and left the parking lot without knowing anything, and it cost me 4,000 yen in 2 hours💦 Even though I had purchased over 3,000 yen, I was surprised to find that the parking fee was higher than the cost of the items I bought. Locals may know that it's expensive, but those who come as tourists will never know! ️ I think they should put a sign at the entrance to give you more information. I thought I would never go there again. I can understand why they charge a fee because it's a tourist spot and there are cases of unauthorized parking, but the way they do it is disgusting. If you are going to take this much money, you should definitely ask at the cash register!!

They offer Yufuin, Fukuoka or Kyushu limited souvenirs. You can also buy towels here for their own or other foot bath around the region.

(Translated by Google) After buying all the souvenirs, the store not only stores luggage very cheaply, but also has a footbath at the back for tourists who are tired from walking. Please note that if you don’t have a towel to dry off, don’t use it. There are relevant regulations posted next to it, so pay attention. (Original) 紀念品買滿買好,商店除了寄放行李很便宜之外,後方還有一處足湯,給走累的遊客休息歇腳,要注意如果沒有毛巾可以擦乾就不要使用,旁邊有貼相關規定要留意一下。

(Translated by Google) The store is large, with a wide selection of goods at reasonable prices, plenty of staff, and excellent service. I bought several cans of yuzu pepper here, and the staff carefully wrapped each can in bubble wrap. I accidentally bought enough to go beyond the duty-free threshold. 😅 Best of all, they offer free foot baths. No need to shop, just walk to the back with your towel. It's a real treat, especially for people with broken legs. The hot springs are incredibly hot and clean.

A very small area but with probably twenty or so owls, the majority of which you can stroke with the back of your hand. It's a terrific no-frills experience of interacting with owls. No cafe pretense, no obligatory cafe drink, just pay 900 yen and pet some owls. The owls look pleasant and well-taken care of. During this hot summer's day, there were fans for the ones who enjoyed it and water spray baths for those that like water. It was fun to watch.
Skyy S — Google review
The admission fee is 900 yen per person, and the space is small. The owls are chained and unable to move, and some are even locked in cages. I hope they can have more space to move around freely...

A small but interesting owl museum. It’s located in yufuin floral village. There are many types of owls, and the staff clearly explained the way to caress the owls and also what’s do and don’t. We managed to take great pictures and enjoyed ourselves very much.
Jessie O — Google review
Never been this close to owls and they are always kind of fierce looking creatures in some people’s minds. But these adorable furries are just waiting be petted on the head here. And we all thought the one at the reception wasn’t real and boy we were wrong!
Gtb5 — Google review
A small place housing various sorts of owls. For a price you get to see them all and you can also give them headpats. They are all very cute and docile.

A very cute little garden with many kinds of owls, feels like Harry Porter in there! (⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎) There’s some other animals too, especially this funny parrot acting crazy that day lol
Lam S — Google review
A charming sanctuary home to various owl species, including barn and snow owls. Visitors can gently interact with these owls under staff guidance. There are clear signs indicate which owls not to pet, ensuring a safe, respectful experience for both guests and the owls.

Saddest sight to see these majestic birds chained to a perch. They should be free in the wild living to their fullest potential. Please do not support this cruel place.

Nature & Parks
Kasen Park is a delightful riverside destination perfect for family outings, especially during the summer months. While the water can be quite chilly, even in warmer weather, it offers a refreshing escape from the heat. The park features both shallow and deep areas of the river—ideal for everyone from toddlers to adults—but caution is advised for young swimmers due to some deeper spots reaching up to 150 cm. Although there are no changing facilities on-site, visitors will find ample parking and restrooms nearby.
(Translated by Google) The water is extremely cold even in the summer, so please be careful not to catch a cold. I myself was photographing underwater in the middle of summer, and my body temperature dropped so low that I turned on the heating, and of course it was hot inside the car, but I closed the windows and when I got home, I wasn't sweating and was still cold. Also, the water level in the river pool is quite deep, so small children and those who are not used to swimming should be careful. I don't know of any other place in this area where the water is so clear, where you can find yamame trout swimming and where you can safely swim with them. Even underwater, you can see through the water and it looks blue. It might be good for those who like beautiful freshwater fish.

It might be more fun if you bring goggles. You can also get there by bus. There are vending machines, but you must bring your own food. Parking is free in front of the bridge, and 500 yen further back.

The shallow part is about from the ankle to the knee. The deep part is about 150cm, so everyone from children to adults can enjoy it. Surrounded by nature, it's cool and perfect for summer. There were very few insects and I didn't get bitten by any insects at all!
