Kokura Castle, a reconstructed 17th-century castle located in Kitakyushu, Japan, is a historical gem with its distinctive architectural features and rich cultural offerings. The castle's keep showcases the unique karazukuri style and the traditional nozura-zumi stone wall. Visitors can explore the eight separate gates and enjoy the beautiful gardens surrounding the castle. Inside, there are various exhibits including a folk museum and the Matsumoto Seicho museum.
I first saw this place while out on my morning run (a short distance from Royal Rihga Hotel). It's in a beautiful urban area next to the river and is contrasted by modern architecture, shopping areas and restaurants. Inside the castle is educational, with many displays. There is a cafe on the top, 5th floor. The highlight for me in the castle were the massive tiger paintings.
Daniel D — Google review
Quite a small castle but fun to visit. Especially for kids. Some interaction games are good for learning which won’t make you bored. Excellent view of the Kokura city from the top floor. Well maintained and arranged inside out.
Huang S — Google review
Kokura Castle is a genuinely lovely stop in Kitakyushu, offering a great mix of historical charm and engaging modern exhibits. While the current main keep is a 1959 reconstruction (the original burned down), the builders did a beautiful job. The castle exterior, surrounded by the moat and the peaceful Katsuyama Park grounds, is very photogenic—especially during cherry blossom season! Inside the castle, you'll find a well-designed, interactive museum. Unlike some older castles, the displays here are fun, with hands-on elements that bring the Edo period and the castle's history (including its famous residents like Miyamoto Musashi) to life. It’s definitely engaging for both adults and kids. The view from the top floor provides a nice panorama of the city, showing the blend of history right next to the modern Riverwalk Kitakyushu complex. Pro-Tip: Make sure to grab the combo ticket that includes the main keep and the adjacent Kokura Castle Garden for a great value and a peaceful break. Overall, it's a very pleasant, worthwhile, and affordable way to spend a few hours in the city.
M D — Google review
So beautiful and the story of the castle and shogunate. I really like the place and the history. Everything is near. And there is a festival too. First time we visited here. Kokura Castle is also known as Cherry blossom castle🌸🏯
Rochelle O — Google review
A small but charming castle with a huge parking lot just across the street. You can take the paid elevator up to the castle. There aren’t many interactive activities, but the view from the top floor is lovely and relaxing. The souvenir selection isn’t particularly exciting, yet the overall visit feels easy and pleasant — a nice, laid-back castle experience.
Vien C — Google review
A historic castle. It's very beautiful and you can go inside. It has been burned down and rebuilt many times. It has the history of Japan written inside. It was very moving! You should definitely go!🏯
RENA玲 — Google review
A nice town worth visiting, once you arrive at the Kokura station, use the south exit and walk along the way by using your google maps, nice walk no worries. A lovely garden nearby. Just buy the ticket upfront.

Mojiko Retro is a charming destination in Kita Kyushu, known for its historic architecture along the harbor. Visitors can explore shops, eateries, and enjoy various events in this area. The Mojiko Retro Tourist Center is a one-stop shop offering a variety of items including sweets and signature crafts like Japanese wooden dolls. Additionally, Mojiko Kaikyo Plaza features shops selling traditional music boxes and other trinkets.
It's a port where you can overlook to honshu lsland from kyushu island, to of the 5 islands in Japan. The scenary and fantastic with good sunlight. A place to relax, but not much happening. Just some beautiful old style buildings there and a bridge connecting 2 islands
Willie L — Google review
Visited Mojiko Retro District on September 12, 2025. Even in mid-September it was still hot and humid, but the retro-style buildings, old port atmosphere, and relaxed vibe made it a very enjoyable stroll. That day there were several pop-up shops selling dog goods and many visitors with their pets—possibly a special “Dog Day”—which gave the town a cheerful and lively feel. We also enjoyed the shopping area, where visitors can eat local dishes, relax in cafés, and shop for souvenirs. The retro setting makes it a pleasant place to wander and take breaks. In the early evening, we went up to the 31st-floor Observation Room near the waterfront. For just ¥300, we got a stunning 270° panoramic view of the port, the Kanmon Strait, and Shimonoseki across the water. Seeing the scenery shift from daylight to dusk, as the town lights began to glow, was unforgettable. I recommend visiting in the afternoon through the evening so you can enjoy both the daytime stroll and the magical night view from above. Mojiko Retro is compact, walkable, and offers the perfect mix of history, culture, food, and scenery.
Benz H — Google review
A lovely port town with beautiful, European-style buildings and a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for taking leisurely strolls and capturing scenic view.
Pattaraporn K — Google review
Not recommend if you do not have free time. Nothing to do much. The view is amazing and beautiful but that's it. The banana soft cream is wonderful. However, overall is so so.
Nattapob P — Google review
If you want to see one of the greatest examples of how western influence made its way in Japan, visit Mojiko Retro. It’s a beautiful dock with many European buildings and tons of dining options, shops, museums, view points and water features. The train station itself is already a great attraction.
Hank R — Google review
Assuming this is the geotag of the wharf area, this is the most lively location where tourists and local partake in souvenir buying and eating, if not for the yaki curry to the east of the station. Made in Japan products and handicrafts line the bay area and many take shelter from the rain indoors. Since you are here, just get the banana products like cakes and tarts. I managed to buy a stack of Tirolian for my students back home. Feedback was that it was delicious, as is all snacks.
Alvin L — Google review
Mojiko Retro (in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka) is a historic port area famous for Western-style buildings, sea views, and its signature yaki curry. It’s one of the best places in Kitakyushu for a relaxed photo walk.

it's a wide open space park. There were flea market when we visited. There are some old buildings made by nostalgic red bricks and the bridge separated and opened letting some boats go in and out.

Mountain peak
Mount Sarakura, standing at 2,040 feet tall and part of the Hobashira mountain range in Kitakyushu Quasi-National Park, offers a breathtaking experience for visitors. A cable car takes you to the summit 622 meters above sea level where an observation area provides panoramic views of Kitakyushu City. The night view from the top is particularly stunning and has been recognized as one of Japan's top three night viewing experiences.
We can see Kitakyushu city from the top of the mountain. And we can also experience riding the cable car and slope car.
Arie S — Google review
Nice view, not a lot to do at the top though. You first have to take a cable car to the middle of the mountain before taking another cable car that goes up the side of the mountain to the top.
Bob N — Google review
The view was breathtaking! I will definitely be back. It was freezing though so pack a sweater when you visit. I want to go back at sunset :)
Alicia A — Google review
The cable car only open in certain days have to check before you go but the view there is certainly a must go place if you are in kita Kyushu
Bob D — Google review
To go up, you can use cable car and then climb for a while (i had not breakfast yet but it's still okay). Once you reach the peak, you can see the whole Kitakyushu city. I was going there in afternoon and it's very good, but some people recommend to go there during evening-night. Make sure you have a good camera.

The TOTO Museum in Kitakyushu is a modern and environmentally friendly museum that showcases the history and evolution of toilets and tableware manufactured by the long-standing company, Toto. Founded in 1917 as Toyo Toki, meaning Oriental Ceramics, TOTO Toilets has become renowned for its water-related products such as toilets and unit bathrooms.
Kudos to the TOTO group to spend the money to celebrate its history and preserve its legacy with this unique look at the bathroom essentials. It was certainly unique and an eye opener to see how TOTO came about about 100 years ago. Free entrance and the staff were super courteous to take good care of their guests. Can recommend to visit if you have an hour to spare. Just awesome washlets!!!
DANNY L — Google review
I’ll admit—I found the Toto Museum far more fascinating than I expected. It might seem counterintuitive to spend time at a museum dedicated to the world’s leading toilet manufacturer, but it turned out to be both educational and surprisingly engaging. Interactive exhibits and detailed cutaways answer that age-old question we’ve all wondered: “How does a toilet actually work?” The museum also offers convenient coin lockers for visitors, and on the lower floor, you’ll find the Toto showroom, where you can admire the latest in high-tech toilets and sleek bathtubs. Believe it or not, this is a must-see stop when visiting Kitakyushu—quirky, informative, and unexpectedly memorable.
Darrell H — Google review
Excellent exhibit, a history of Toto. The building has two levels second level for the museum and history of Toto. The first level is a showroom and sales floor. Interesting to anybody, but specially for people working in construction trades or design would benefit the most. (I’m pretty sure they would not sell products intended for Japan for export, Toto product sold in the United States are different)
Freeman B — Google review
Toto museum is definitely an interesting experience. You get to see the evolution of Japanese toilets from the ancient era to what you see today. High tech, comfortable and easy to use.
Randy N — Google review
Japan's bathroom technologies are many miles ahead of other countries, so it's amazing to visit a museum dedicated to their history. I'm absolutely obsessed with TOTO products and really wish they sold wider varieties of their products in the UK. I hope they expand the museum even more to showcase other excellent bathroom features such as autobath and temperature control. If you love Japanese bathrooms, then this is a pilgrimage you need to take to celebrate the technology in all its glory. Plus, Kokura is a nice city to visit. Worth the day trip imo, just make sure it's not Monday since they're closed.
G C — Google review
Initially I thought this would be a quirky museum that would be a quick walk thru. Upon entering I was extremely surprised at how robust it actually was. The interactive displays were a nice touch as well. If you are in Kathmandu, definitely worth a visit

The Kyushu Railway History Museum in Moji, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan is a must-visit for train enthusiasts and history buffs alike. It showcases a fascinating collection of steam engines, sleeping carriages, and an early electric train designed in 1942. Visitors can explore retired vehicles and even take a tour inside some of the old carriages. The museum also features a functioning miniature train track, driving simulation, and informative displays that cater to Japan's avid train following.
A must visit place when you're in mojiko, here you'll learn the history of kyushu trains then and now. As a JR pass user I always wonder why there are old trains and newer trains and all these are explained here. Some interesting exhibits are old tickets, old trains that re removed, tracks types
Willie L — Google review
Good for children. Paid for ticket. The outdoor train simulator requires ¥300 for 2 people. The indoor train simulator is free but takes a long time for waiting, STRONGLY suggests reserving the indoor train simulator first.
鎧atHK — Google review
Kyushu railway history museum is a nice museum to understand more about trains, although not a very big one. You can try the train simulator and play with the model train for ¥100. You can even take the mini train ride to become a train captain for ¥300 but could be close due to bad weather.
Randy N — Google review
What amazed me is how much they can fit inside of the tiny park area. With the ¥300 yen ticket per adult you can check out historic trains from the last century parked in a row, a mini outdoor railway park, a diorama room showcasing all the N-gauge Shinkansen and other iconic express trains in Kyushu, a train simulator room, a library of real, ancient relics on train history in Kyushu and so on.
Hank R — Google review
Great museum. Tons of artifacts. Great layout. Just wish things were translated into other languages for non-Japanese speakers. If they were, I would give this five stars.
Nicholas M — Google review
my sons love trains so when they know there is a train museum in kyushu, they keep nagging to go here. quite nice, not too big like the one we went on another city but they still like it. there are several old trains on the train garage with each of their history. we can also go inside the museum which shows many old things related to trains. kids also can play train simulator by paying 100 yen only, but you need to get ticket reservation because most children would like to play this.
Lenny L — Google review
Boring, nothing to see here but a few trains that you cannot enter. Bunch of Japanese kids running around and shouting. Perhaps this is what hell looks like. Everything that seems fun is paywar. Save the 300 yen for a menchi katsu instead
Ting H — Google review
As a train fan this is the place I’ve been owing to go while in Kitakyushu. Adjacent to Mojiko Station there are old train carriages outdoors on display with three of them you can enter inside, as the interior is well preserved. The main building hosts a small 1900 carriage and an exhibition room upstairs with railway artifacts, station and destination signs and old photos. Though not as big as the one near Omiya it is great that there is one.

Mojiko Station, located in the city of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka prefecture, is a historic Neo-Renaissance train station that was originally built in 1891 and later updated in 1914. It stands on a square with a fountain and is one of the few remaining wooden stations in Japan. The station reflects Western influence with its Neo-Renaissance style appearance and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property.
Mojiko Station is a station on the JR Kyushu Kagoshima Main Line in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu. The current station building is a wooden station building that was completed in 1914. It is a Neo-Renaissance style, symmetrical design, and is the first railway station building in Japan to be designated as an important cultural property, and is a representative tourist attraction in Mojiko.
Christian C — Google review
Mojiko Station is beautiful—it really feels like stepping back in time. I actually visited twice in a row. The first time was during the Kanmon Festival, so it was extremely crowded. The second visit was the next day, and it was much quieter, which allowed me to enjoy the station more. I stopped by the information center (the staff there were very welcoming), and also visited the lost and found office next to the tracks—though that older building wasn’t as charming. Overall, I’m glad I came. It was a wonderful experience.
Kevin W — Google review
Mojiko is our first destination using the JR North Kyushu Pass this trip. Located in Kitakyushu, one can overlook Honshu from the port area. It's not a big place and it's not as crowded compared to Yufuin and the urban areas. We come here for the banana cuisines (beverages, snacks and incredibly banana baked curry) and the sea breeze. Many restaurants serving baked curry line up the streets along Mojiko Station. Head to the nearby observation tower for an unobstructed view. Before you reach, you will pass by a souvenir store for more banana goodies. The banana auction site, located a few metres out of the station was where bananas from Taiwan was auctioned off in the early 90s. There is another shopping arcade that encircled the port area, that's where most of the action is. Most of the attractions are located south of the station, making this an easy itinerary for a day trip.
Alvin L — Google review
A nostalgic journey back in time. Mojiko Station is a beautiful and historic place, perfect for exploring the charming streets and enjoying delicious local cuisine.
Andrea O — Google review
Mojiko station is a small train station that has a lot of history. The fountains for example are relects from 1914 and are still working. The buildings around it also look like they were built a long time ago. There is a fountain in front of the station. Across the street is the Moji Port. We took a ferry to go to the Karato Fish Market and visit tbe attractions nearby. We used the same route going back to Hakata.
Travel T — Google review
This station faces the Kyushu Railway Museum and is a historical station. (The station building was completed in 1914.) The history of the station dates back to 1891. There were no bridges or tunnels in the Kanmon Strait when it first opened, and this station served as the gateway to the railways of Kyushu. The station building is an important cultural property and is popular among Japanese railway enthusiasts.
T M — Google review
Very well kept station. None of the credit card readers actually work so bring yen if you feel bad about not paying. The staff here is chill. The fountains are sometimes turned on in the front. The station is clean and they have some cute plants by the rails.

Discover the fascinating world of natural and human history at the Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History. This diverse museum offers a wide range of exhibits, including dinosaurs, archeology, local culture, and a beautiful garden. The museum was formed in 2002 by combining three separate museums into one expansive space with 65,000 square feet of display area.
Big museum with many exhibits. You can purchase tickets easily on the spot. Do take note it takes a while to get through everything so plan your time accordingly

One of the best natural history museums I've visited. As you enter you're met with a big collection of stag beetles. The dinosaur skeletons and mammoth skeletons were amazing . There was an awesome exhibit of nautilus fossils, a good collection of minerals and crystals - I'm a huge fan. A very well curated artefacts on the history of Japan, with lots of information on the different samurai clans. Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hrs visit.
陳老师Anisah — Google review
This has been the most mindblowing museum we have ever been to. The amount of information and the interactive exhibitions are truly exceptional! If you are ever in Fukuoka this is just one stop in the bullet train back in the direction of hiroshima. So you can be there in about 20 minutes. The dinosaurs are in the main hall and there are so many and so big that it's almost impossible to fit them in a proper photo. The only thing we regret was not going earlier as we didn't have time to buy anything in the gift shop because it was closing already. There were lots of things that were worth buying.
Kelly B — Google review
The Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History is a great museum that covers both ecology and history of Kitakyushu. The museum has a large area talking about how the earth was formed and how creatures evolved until now. For this part, they are doing well like other museums. After this section, then they focus more on both ecology and history of Kitakyushu. Overall, it is a very good museum and you will properly spend 1-2 hours there. During my last visit, the building was renovating outside but they have provided arrow signs to guide visitors to the entrance.
Javin Y — Google review
Wonderful museum... A must visit..
Pulkit C — Google review
The museum is a sprawling (6,100 sqm) place, the largest nature museum on Western Japan. It has an impressive display of dinosaur skeletons that are conveniently and strategically positioned at the ground level of the museum. Themed "Journey in Life" the museum has a time travelling room and a natural history zone that has 4,500 exhibits including the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras
Maya B — Google review
Great experience of visit, especially if you are really into Geography and history I’m sure you will gain a lot of knowledge. Not only serves merely information about the past, prehistoric period, it has the live attraction movie-like except it has the robot that similar the real dinosaurs about how dinosaurs live in the past, although the explanation given in japanese i was astonished by how they managed to make the visitors get the insights.
Vimeleonora — Google review
It is a museum that displays not only skeletal specimens, but also stuffed specimens, models, and dioramas in a variety of ways. The museum is very large, and it would take about two hours just to tour it in a normal way. The explanations are simple but to the point, and the tour is well-paced. In the latter half of the museum, there is an introduction to old Japanese culture, which is very interesting. There are many exhibits that can be touched as well as seen, so children can have fun.

Kitakyushu itself, established in 1963, sits on the north coast of Kyushu and is known for its industrial significance within Fukuoka Prefecture as well as various sightseeing spots.

Hands down my favorite airport. Well maintained and clean. Easy immigration and security process. The view from the viewing platform is amazing. You can get there by a shuttle bus from kitakyushu train station. It takes about an hour to get there and costs around 1k yen. 10/10 airport

I feel like this is the most underrated airport. There are a few direct flights from Haneda Airport which I appreciated. This airport is very clean and have small but good souvenirs stores. and more importantly, I cannot say enough about how amazing the JAL staff are! Due to my health condition, I have to request wheelchair support and they have been the most thoughtful and kind staff I have ever come across with. They have coordinated with the bus company to make sure I can get on the bus seamlessly. I even received a thoughtful card from a staff. On Friday, October 25, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, I was scheduled to board flight LJ350 from Kitakyushu, Japan, to Seoul Incheon. Around 8:00 AM, I entered the airport security checkpoint, prepared with my mobile QR code as I had completed web check-in and did not require a printed boarding pass. Upon request, I turned on my phone to show the QR code. Shockingly, without a word or any explanation, the security staff member abruptly seized my phone from my hand and placed it in the security tray. Up until that moment, I had not spoken to the staff or even made eye contact, as I was simply conversing with my companion. My phone screen was still on, raising privacy concerns, and I instinctively reached out to turn it off. The security agent's expression immediately hardened, and he attempted to snatch the phone from me with increased force. When I resisted, he used even more strength to wrest it from my hand and put it back in the tray. His colleagues, all of whom witnessed this exchange, did nothing to intervene; one even offered an apologetic smile, yet none stepped in to stop this employee’s forceful and inappropriate behavior. This individual appeared to be a male in his 40s. What authority permits you to manhandle personal belongings without consent? What right do you have to treat a traveler’s possessions with aggression and such an intimidating attitude? Frankly, the behavior was reminiscent of a Yakuza rather than an airport security officer. After 15 years of traveling to over 30 countries on more than 300 business and personal trips, this is, without a doubt, one of the most egregious incidents I have encountered. I consider this a serious act of racial discrimination, and I will not return to Kitakyushu. I attempted to send you an email regarding this matter but couldn’t find a contact address. Have you removed your email because you receive complaints like this every day? I fully consent to the public release of the footage. If there is any suspicion that I am exaggerating or misrepresenting events, feel free to review and publish the footage immediately. The small, artificial island of Kitakyushu Airport seemed like it would be a beautiful and serene place. My first impression was exactly that. But this positive sentiment was ruined by one employee’s foolish, racially discriminatory conduct, which left a negative mark on the overall impression of your country. Was the friendliness I experienced in places like Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, or even nearby Fukuoka simply a facade to welcome tourists? Do your other staff harbor the same prejudices as this individual? It is disappointing to witness such an unprofessional display from your staff and disheartening to realize that the training standards at your airport are this low.

Small but a very nice airport. Many bus routes to and from the airport, not so distant from city areas. If your destination in Kyushu are located in east side of the island, this is a good place to land.

This airport is by far great in my opinion. Even though it might not be the biggest, there is a observation deck for you to see. Not too far from Kitakyushu, easy access. I would give this airport a 5 star. There are direct flights to places in Japan such as Haneda, so do not worry.

Kokura Castle Garden is a picturesque Japanese-style garden located near a reconstructed feudal fortress. The castle grounds, known as Katsuyama Park, are popular for cherry blossom viewing in early April. The modern interior of the castle keep features five floors and offers insights into Kokura's history. While the garden is relatively small compared to others, it houses a museum showcasing Kokura's history and traditional textile production.
Well-kept traditional Japanese garden. While not a major attraction, we found a short walk around the gardens and along the tea rooms to be calming and enjoyable.
Timothy B — Google review
If it was cooler weather this garden would be a nice place to relax. It's small but still has a relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this if you wanted to take a spot to sit down but wouldn't go out of my way to visit specifically
David C — Google review
Um~~ Not a must-visit. I purchased a combined admission ticket for Kokura Castle for a little over 500 yen, but I don't think there's a need to go there. I like pretty, well-maintained Japanese gardens, but this one isn't well-maintained and there's little to see. The water in the pond was so murky that it didn't look good. I don't think it's a place you'd pay money to go to.

The silence, scenenarly garden. You can mind set. View of castle from this garden is beautiful. You can experience tea ceremony, as well.

Kokura Castle Garden is a traditional Japanese garden. While the garden is decent, it is a bit small compared to other Japanese gardens. However, it has a small museum explaining the history of Kokura and the famous Kokura-ori which is a kind of traditional textile made by traditional loom. Overall, it is an interesting place and you will be able to spend around 30 minutes here. Please note that they sell combo tickets with discount for you to enter this garden, Kokura Castle and Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum.

Tanga Market, also known as Kitakyushu's Kitchen, is a historic covered market with over 100 vendors offering fresh seafood, produce, meat, and prepared foods. Established around 1913 along the Kantakegawa River bank by sardine fishermen, this bustling market has been serving the people of Kitakyushu for over a century.
Great local market with affordable breakfast and lunch options. Ate at a tuna restaurant and the chicken katsudon place. Also had a coffee at Benny's. Wanted to try the oden but long lines for it. If you're a tourist, some vendors don't like you taking pictures. The one who yelled at me was an older fruit vendor. So, be aware that photography may not always be welcome.
Ian G — Google review
Although the official opening hours are 10-17, many shops were closing or had only a few items for sale when I visited the market at around 15:30. There are many shops selling fresh sashimi, as well as some shops selling fresh vegetables, fruits and wagyu. It would be a nice place to visit with friends and family. I did not see any seating space for people to enjoy the food, but it is not far from the park around Kokura Castle so a possible way may be to bring the food from the market to the park instead.

The Tanga Market is a traditional market that was formed during the Taisho period from 1912 to 1926. There are about 120 stores selling ingredients along both sides of the market, so it is also called the "Kokura Kitchen." Many tourists visit here to feel the local atmosphere while looking at fresh seafood, meat, fruits, and vegetables. It is also famous for its traditional food that has been passed down from the Edo period. There are stores selling "nukamiso-daki," fish seasoned with Japanese miso, and "nukazuke," rice bran pickles, and there are also restaurants that offer a variety of menus such as fish cakes, udon, and seafood dishes, so it is a good place to have a meal while browsing the market.

The Old Moji Mitsui Club, established in 1921 as a lodging facility for Mitsui Bussan, is now an important cultural property and a popular tourist spot in the Mojiko retro area. The building boasts traditional European wooden architecture known as the Half-Timber style. Visitors can explore the Einstein Memorial Room, where physicist Albert Einstein once stayed during a lecture trip to Japan.
The Old Moji Mitsui Club is located on the right side of Mojiko Station across the street. Mojiko is lined with old-fashioned Western-style buildings centered around the first pier, and one of the closest ones to the station is the Old Moji Mitsui Club. It is even more famous because it is said that Einstein and his wife stayed here. The first floor is a restaurant, and the second floor exhibits 200 items related to Hayashi Fumiko, a writer from Mojiko.

I came all the way to Japan, planned the trip to go to Kitakyushu, purposely booked a day tour that make a stop here so I can visit this historic place and try the baked curry– all that to be turned down upon entry with no explanation??? The day I visited, the nice host lady greeted me and my friend, asked if we’re here for lunch or the tour. We wanted to eat lunch first (it was around 14.00) and go upstairs to tour the place and check the Einstein room. Suddenly came this younger male staff, rudely keep saying “no lunch no lunch” while crossing his arms and keep pointing the exit to us. The lady staff look confused as well because she was ready to show us to our table. About a minute later, came this group of influencers with loads of cameras, equipments and all. They were very loud and don’t even care that other people are still in the premises (there are 2-3 people inside the restaurant). They just roam around like they own the place, leaving their equipments around the premises too. We understand that this group probably already booked and pay in advance for the event, but what about the other tourists like us that paid travel all the way here to visit, to be just rudely turned down WITH NO EXPLANATION? Will you compensate us for our time and the tour we paid? No right? I visited Japan so many times and this is my first time being so disappointed and feel disrespected in Japan. Luckily there’s this small restaurant nearby called “Curry Honpo Mojiko Retro” with high ratings and we can still try the baked curry there. Although I’m still upset that I cannot tour the Einstein room.

This is a guest house as the original purpose at 1921. Einstein stayed her at 1922. very good place to eat the famous fugu 🐠. #Einstein spend around 5 days in this place and he wrote magnificent letter describing the visit to Japan. The service of the place is extremely good, kind waitresses, and delicious Fugue. It is near train station and surrounded by secret love icons for couples to challenge their love and search for it.

You can pay ¥150 to visit the second story where you can see the room where Albert Einstein and his wife stayed as well as a large exhibit on the author Hayashi Fumiko. English translations are available for the exhibits on Einstein, but is very sparse for the rooms dedicated to Hayashi Fumiko. Her exhibit is very detailed and I was wishing I was more familiar with her work.
Nat F — Google review
Before coming here, I didn't have any idea that Albert Einstein has been to Japan. Although Mojiko is visited by many Korean people, there is no Korean translations for visitors in this buildings or others. I was lucky to read Japanese and English. But you shouldn't ignore people from other nationalities who often visit the area. You have to take off your shoes if you want to see the second floor. That's why it would be better to have a bag.

Good location for travellers. There are a variety of shops and restaurants, so it was a good place to spend an hour or two on a hot summer day. It's right next to Kokura Castle, so it would be a good idea to park here and look around. Parking is quite expensive in Japan. I haven't read it exactly, but according to the explanation, parking is free if you have a purchase receipt after parking. It seemed to be divided into 1 hour and 3 hour sessions depending on the amount. There are also Ropia, Daiso, and Starbucks, so it won't be difficult to get a receipt. The Kitakyushu Municipal Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum is a literary museum located in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu, that exhibits works related to the life and achievements of the author Matsumoto Seicho. After Seicho's death, it was decided to build a memorial museum in his hometown of Kokurakita-ku, with the aim of honoring his achievements and passing them on to future generations. It opened on August 4, 1998 (Heisei 10) in a corner of the southwestern edge of the Kokura Castle ruins. Inside the museum, Seicho's achievements as a writer are introduced through videos and exhibits. One of the highlights is the exhibition room that faithfully recreates the exterior of his home in Takaido, Suginami-ku, Tokyo, as well as his study, library, and reception room, donated by his surviving family, to the way they were when he died.

Yasaka Shrine is a branch of the famous Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, located near Kokura Castle in Kitakyushu. The shrine is situated close to the Riverwalk and features a massive main gate and beautiful buildings typical of Japanese shrines. The path leading to the shrine is adorned with Hydrangeas, creating a picturesque walkway. Visitors can enjoy the well-maintained grounds and soak in the quiet atmosphere, making it a worthwhile stop when exploring Kokura Castle.
Yasaka Shrine, Kokura, is located beside Kokura Castle and its garden, and it is not uncommon for the local residents and visitors simply to visit or worship at Yasaka Shrine. The Shrine in Kokura is rather different from other shrines in Japan which are also named Yasaka Shrines, because Yasaka Shrine in Kokura has a mix tradition of Shinto beliefs and Buddhism. It is believed that the current Shrine was re-built in 1617, although it might be built much earlier. The Shrine is also unique because it has stone-concrete and wood torii gates as its entrance gates, while most of Shinto shrines only have one entrance torii gate for their shrines. Shrine is free for entrance, and, nowadays, the Shrine seems to provide funeral worship and storage service for the deceased families.

We arrived around 9 AM on a Thursday, and the crowd was quite light—not many people, so it was easy to take photos with just a short wait. The flowers were in beautiful bloom, and there was a gentle floral scent in the air, which I found really pleasant—something like jasmine or Calendula officinalis. When we arrived by car, there were staff members helping with parking directions. There are restrooms available—fairly clean. The women’s restroom had four stalls, while the men’s had three, though one of them seemed to be temporarily out of order. The walking path is marked as one-way, but there didn’t seem to be any strict enforcement. We saw a couple in wedding attire—hopefully they got some lovely photos. There were also a few small items available for sale near the entrance, but not many.

It’s a nice place to visit if you are around kokura. Please buy tickets online and show the QR code to the staff at entrance. The flower tunnels are enchanting, and there are many benches for people to sit and appreciate the ambience. You may find different types of flora collection along the way too. This place is well managed with many staff to direct the traffic and parking. Parking is free. There are also some mobile toilet stands outside near the car park area.
Jessie O — Google review
We almost skipped this park because the ticket-buying process is a real headache: confusing website (at least during golden week there is no other way to get a ticket, not even on side) and there were even different prices depending on how “pretty” it currently is (felt a bit like a scam). Once inside, though, it was well worth it. Even during Golden Week it never felt overcrowded and everything was beautifully arranged which made this a worthy stop on our trip. If they could simplify the admission steps and ditch the beauty-based pricing, this would be a top-tier destination. As it stands, the flower park is fantastic, but the experience starts on a sour note.
Ercan C — Google review
We arrived at around 3 pm and was told we need to reserve a slot but I was having issues signing up online so the lady allowed me to pay with credit card. The flowers were already in bloom and it was a beautiful sight but there were too many people to be able to take a nice shot. Overall experience was great. And worth the travel. Very pleased with what I have seen and experienced.

Already almost full-bloom in late April 2025 (24th). Not too crowded on weekday. Beautiful wisteria tunnel, spherical cave filled with wisteria. Beautiful and nice place to go for sight-seeing. Have 3 tones of colors; white, pink and purple wisteria Recommended for flower lovers and photogenic persons.

If you don’t have car you need to get a taxi from yahata station even from mt sarakura too . Return around 3000 yen x2 . Now it’s 80% blooming, very pretty well look after wisteria flowers garden. * easier get tickets from 7-11 or Lawson for 500yen but when you go to the garden you will need to pay 1000-1500yen depending on the day of the flowers conditions.

A Hidden Gem Worth Visiting This stunning and affordable destination is open to the public twice a year, drawing a large number of visitors. Due to its limited opening periods, it's crucial to purchase tickets online in advance to secure your entry. While there are no restrooms within the premises, visitors can access clean and well-maintained facilities at the entrance. The venue's size is smaller than anticipated, allowing for a quick and enjoyable exploration.

The site offers free admission and provides insights into the history of Moji Customs and the port. Inside, there are detailed examples of smuggling techniques on display, offering a unique perspective on the region's history. Additionally, visitors can enjoy harbor views from the terrace while relaxing at the onsite cafe.

(Translated by Google) This station is located in Yahata Higashi Ward, Kitakyushu City, on the Kagoshima Main Line. The station name, Space World, refers to a space-themed amusement park that once stood here. At the time, the area was a vast vacant lot owned by Nippon Steel Corporation (the predecessor of Nippon Steel Corporation), and Kitakyushu City and the former Nippon Steel Corporation opened Space World in a section of it (1990). Following this, the Mojiko Retro Grand Opening (1995) brought a new level of tourism to Kitakyushu City, which had previously been unpopular with tourists. However, Space World sadly closed in 2017. The station name remains unchanged, even now, many years after its closure, a testament to Space World's former presence here. Today, the area around the station is home to numerous commercial and recreational facilities, including The Outlet Kitakyushu, AEON Mall Yahata Higashi, and the Journey of Life Museum, making it a great place to spend the day. From the station, you can also see Mount Sarakura, the symbol of Kitakyushu City. It is also the birthplace of the Yawata Steel Works, which was the driving force behind the development of Kitakyushu City, and is an area where you can experience the old and new Kitakyushu City. Mekari Shrine is an ancient Shinto shrine situated at the water's edge of the Kanmon Strait, near the modern Kanmon Bridge. This unique location offers a captivating juxtaposition of ancient and modern elements, with the skyline of Shimonoseki city in the background and ocean vessels passing by. Located on the edge of Kyushu Island, it is adjacent to the Kanmon Straits Bridge connecting Yamaguchi and Fukuoka Prefectures.
While searching historical materials of Mekari Shrine and looking into the history of funerals, they found information that in the very old days, corpses were put on small boats and floated out to sea. They decided to apply this to develop a service called "Sea Funeral" (a ceremony to scatter remains into the sea). They posted an announcement about the sea funeral service on their website in July 2014 and received their first request three months later. Since then, their annual income has exceeded 10 million yen for the first time.

A wonderful little shrine located by the sea. It is small by the view it offers makes it one of the best shrines I’ve been to in a Japan. The bridge, the sea, and the white torii combined is not something that you can commonly see. And the fact that it is secluded from the more touristy area makes you feel calm once you are there.

The Ogai Mori Former Residence in Kokura is a traditional Japanese house with six rooms, including an 8-mat room and a smaller 4.5-mat room that the literary great Mori Ogai is believed to have mainly used. Visitors can take off their shoes and relax on the tatami while enjoying the view of the charming garden. Despite its unassuming location, it's a lovely place for a peaceful break. Plus, admission is free!

Visitors can explore large-scale murals and delve into a comic book library housing an extensive collection dating back to the 1940s.
Amazing museum that shows the history of manga and how the process of manga creation works. At the end of the museum is the biggest library of manga I have ever seen, free for you to read since you already paid for admission! 🙂

I think calling this a museum is a slight exaggeration. Whilst it does have some early manga content it is not particularly extensive. The main draw is the extensive manga library you can browse and read at your leisure. IF you cant read Japanese, don't bother coming, as the display content is not in English and you won't make use of the library. IF you can read Japanese, I'd say give it a go. I'm sure it is beloved by locals, I'd go regularly if I lived nearby. Don't bother going all the way to Kitakyushu just for this though.

Very unique must-try experience! You get to walk in the underground cave that is over 900m long. Some tips: 1) First half can be done with regular shoes, but the second half would require sandals as you will be walking in water. The water level can come up to your knee and can be quite cold. 2) They let you borrow sandals for free, but if you don't like sharing public footwear, then bring your own!! 3) There is hand and feet washing area and they provide free towels, but it is shared with others so bring your own towels if you don't like that. 4) Bathroom is really clean and are the western kind. They do ask for 10 YEN donation per use to help with the maintenance cost. It's written in Japanese so don't miss it! 5) Parking is massive and free. 6) It is an in-and-out route so be prepared to share the narrow pathway with others.

Lovely experience. The water walking path is really fun. The water us very cold it will freeze your feet and legs. The adrenaline from the painful of frostbite make this trip more special. The experience was quite memorable, offering a unique and enjoyable adventure. The water walking path presented an exciting challenge for those seeking a novel activity. However, the water's temperature was strikingly low, requiring careful consideration. The sensation of the cold water on the feet and legs was definitely intense, potentially causing a chilling effect. This unexpected aspect added an element of thrill to the overall experience.

Fantastic experience, a highlight of our Japan trip. The cave has a flat track to walk inside. It can get slippery on some sections near the water. It's true you get used to the cold water, so keep going. Recommended swimwear, head lamp, waterproof camera. There are coin lockers, shoe racks, toilets, change rooms, nice cafe for a small lunch afterwards. We walked from the minibus drop off point for 1/2 hour. The approach down to the cave has many stairs. Note the minibus is small and easily filled up. Be early to get on it, take money for a taxi in case you can't get on. See attached photo of bus timetable. Note Google maps train times were not accurate, the train came early.

I visited this cave on end of March (5°C outside) which water still very cold but I felt so numb after walking for a while :). An admission fee is JPY900/person which they provide many sizes of sandals for free. I really super enjoyed this cave and spent time round-trip approx.1 hour+. By the way the way down to cave quite steep but it's worth to visit.

It is a perfect place for an adventure. Deep in the mountains of hiraodai, this place is really something. The cave has it's unique shapes and design. The cold running water inside the cave makes it very difficult to walk. But because of that it creates a white marvelous white surface, which is really beautiful. It is one of the place in kitakyushu which I recommend to visit.

Wonderful experience navigating an underwater cave! About an hour back and forth if you want to truly enjoy the exploration slowly. Halfway through you start wading through knee high water. At the end theres a part that's not lit. I didn't get to do that as I was with kids but if you have a torch it would probably make for a nice little adventure. Worth the visit!

super awesome place!! Ive been in a few caves in Japan but nothing exciting like this one!! It's a total of 40 - 45 mins return walk. People with tall heights might have to chrunch down the whole way; that's how low the cellings are!!! I was lucky to have a height of 150cm which made me through the cave with only few chrunching downs. Surprise#1) they advise you to change shoes into slippers which are provided there for free. Surprise#2) Once you go up the stairs, you'll see the little "god house" which indicates that the local people from ages who found this place has been looking after this place like a spirtial thing. Surprise#3) They cave is touchable!! Most caves are guarded with poles and gates but this cave, you can actually touch the walls and cellings; their cellings here are veeeeeery low!!! Surprise#4) half way through the cave you'll see the natural water running through the cave. NOW!! This is the part where it gets exciting!!!! The only way you can get to the end of this cave is to WALK INTO THE WATER!! OMG it's soooooooooo cold!!! Surprise#5) the was gets deeper and deeper!! Surprise#6) there will bea place that has beautiful lighting on the wall. GREAT place to take pictures. Surprise#6) you will see a path with no lights ahead. That's the dead end. That is as far as you can go. Need to head back where you came from but watch out!! The paths are made for only one person. Need to make a way for the coming people!! Overall, the visit is worth it!! I do think that for few people with heights and maybe width may struggle a bit going through the paths but worth trying!!!!

Hiraodai Countryside Park is a vast plateau area featuring stunning karst rock formations and a lookout point offering panoramic views of the Hiraodai landscape. The park offers various activities such as soba noodle-making, ceramics, woodworking, and flower art workshops. It also boasts a concert space, restaurant, playground, and access to hiking trails. Families can enjoy picnics on the spacious green lawns or take a ride on a small train within the park.
Such a beautiful place and lots of good facilities. It's free to enter and then there is big open green spaces to have a picnic, restaurant, shop, park to enjoy. The toilets are nice and clean. The views are so good. There's a small train you can ride from the main part to the park for the kids. If you go by foot it takes about 15 minutes. My kids love this place.

Kawauchi Fujien, also known as Kawachi Wisteria Garden, is a picturesque park and hilltop viewpoint located in Kitakyushu, Japan. The garden is famous for its stunning tunnels adorned with wisteria flowers and a dome covered with these beautiful blooms during the spring season. It is considered one of the best places in Japan to admire wisteria flowers in full bloom, typically from late April to early May.
The flowering season comes only once a year usually around early may, tickets go on sale in April online. Book you time slot for ¥500pp, when you arrive depending on the flowering quality you will need to top up to ¥1500pp like we did (full bloom) Ample parking, well coordinated and overall an amazing experience. Highly recommended. After ticket inspection, take the far right path. It's much easier to walk up. Please NOTE - this is NOT a place to have a picnic, you're not supposed to bring in any food or drinks. Don't be those people, ignorance is not an excuse.
Benjamin Z — Google review
李京軒 — Google review
We arrived at around 3 pm and was told we need to reserve a slot but I was having issues signing up online so the lady allowed me to pay with credit card. The flowers were already in bloom and it was a beautiful sight but there were too many people to be able to take a nice shot. Overall experience was great. And worth the travel. Very pleased with what I have seen and experienced.
Cynthia T — Google review
If you don’t have car you need to get a taxi from yahata station even from mt sarakura too . Return around 3000 yen x2 . Now it’s 80% blooming, very pretty well look after wisteria flowers garden. * easier get tickets from 7-11 or Lawson for 500yen but when you go to the garden you will need to pay 1000-1500yen depending on the day of the flowers conditions.
Eliza B — Google review
Already almost full-bloom in late April 2025 (24th). Not too crowded on weekday. Beautiful wisteria tunnel, spherical cave filled with wisteria. Beautiful and nice place to go for sight-seeing. Have 3 tones of colors; white, pink and purple wisteria Recommended for flower lovers and photogenic persons.

Sights & Landmarks
The Blue Wing Moji Bridge is a pedestrian drawbridge that spans the Kanmon Strait, offering stunning views and a touch of romance for lovers who cross it. This signature tourist attraction raises and lowers several times each day to allow boats to pass through. The slow, deliberate opening and closing movements make it an exciting spectacle for both kids and adults. Visitors can easily catch the bridge in action by following its daily schedule, which includes multiple openings between 10:00 and 16:00.
Blue Wing Moji is a pedestrian bridge built in 1993. It was built as a special drawbridge to allow ships to pass. When the bridge opens for about 20 minutes every hour, six times a day from 10 AM to 4 PM, pedestrians are restricted and ships pass between the two bridges. When the bridge is fully opened, the bridge rises until it reaches almost 60 degrees, which is another spectacular sight. Blue Wing Moji is especially popular with couples, as there is a popular saying that if you hold hands and cross the bridge when it closes, you will be together for the rest of your life. As a result, it has become a well-known mecca for lovers, and tourists also visit this place as a tourist attraction.
Christian C — Google review
It is a small bridge in the Mojiko area, which can be opened to allow boats to pass through. As I had seen the opening process of the much large London Tower Bridge, I just skipped and did not wait until the opening process. However, visitors who wish to watch the opening process can conveniently find out the time of opening and closing easily as there is an information board about the time next to the bridge.
Siu L — Google review
Blue Wing Moji is a pedestrian swing bridge that operates a few times a day by allowing boats to pass. However, we didn't see any boats passing during its operation on both occasions. An non-obedient tourist will likely be cut off from the group if they did not heed the instructions of their tour guide. We saw a few groups of China and Taiwan tourists, judging from their mono colour umbrellas and accent taking photos and videos of the bridge and then running across the bridge dangerously. We used the bridge to get to the observation deck and then when returning, we explored the wharf area. Note: You don't need to access the bridge to traverse the retro area.

The bridge was inactive (due to New Yesr holidays?) and not many tourists during the day. However, the scene was very nice & quiet during the holidays.

Observing how the movable bridge operates to allow boats to pass beneath it was interesting. Literally, it was as if the bridge's wings were spread out into the clear blue sky. If you're ever in Kitakyushu City, I highly recommend visiting "Mojiko Retro." It's a beautiful place to explore.

The Old Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. Building is a historic landmark in Moji Port, dating back to 1917. Its distinctive orange tiles and octagonal tower make it a rare sight in the area, resembling Western architecture. While I didn't have the opportunity to explore its interior, the building exudes an impressive charm from the outside. The vintage elements evoke a sense of romance and nostalgia, reminiscent of Western and Italian aesthetics.
The Old Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. Building is a restored Osaka Shosen Moji Branch building built in 1917, and is constructed using orange and white bricks as tiles. Itôzu no mori Park is a unique zoo that offers interactive experiences, kids' rides, a restaurant, and a gift shop. Unlike traditional zoos, the animals here are not confined to one cage or compound. For example, goats can freely move between two compounds and red pandas can travel between outdoor and indoor areas. The use of glass barriers allows visitors to observe the animals up close while ensuring their safety.
What an unexpected gem of a zoo! Although it isn’t the largest, it was clearly renovated recently; almost every enclosure is spacious and well designed, and the animals are some of the healthiest and happiest-looking I’ve seen! A short bus ride from Kokura Station.

I like the concept of the zoo. The animal does not confine to one cage or compound only. Example, the goat can go and back between two compounds and the red panda can travel between outdoor and indoor compounds. The glass separated the visitors and animals also allow the visitors to have a chance to see them at a very close distance. Also, i am not sure if all zoo in japan has the red panda but i am very lucky to see them in this zoo...and yes, they are so cute! Although the zoo is not very big, yet it is good enough to see all the animals and i found them very fat and healthy here.

Mojiko has long been an international trading port, and at the time there was an international shipping route between it and Dalian, China, and the building was used as a waiting room for that route. Perhaps due to this connection, Kitakyushu City and Dalian still have a friendship city relationship (in the case of Chinese cities, the term "sister city" is not used as a general rule). Inside the museum, models of ships that sailed there at the time and information on the history of Mojiko are on display, making for a very interesting display. It has a great local, lively energy. If you're looking to do some economical shopping and want a break from big-box stores, this is highly recommended. A great spot to stroll, soak up the atmosphere, and find some deals!

The Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji is a small yet captivating art museum housed in a contemporary brick building. Despite its limited space, the museum carefully curates displays from the Idemitsu Museum of Art in Marunouchi. Visitors can explore paintings, ceramics, and historical exhibits about Idemitsu's history. The museum also features a 30-minute mini theater and prohibits indoor photography.
Photography of the exhibits is prohibited. I see a lot of people choose to ignore that. Either way, this place on about a monthly cadence will update its exhibits. They do accept card + tap-to-pay and it's three floors of exhibits. The place is well kept and they have a rack when you first enter to hang your umbrellas. There's wheelchairs as well so you can cart grandma along. They're well-staffed and admission ranges from 600-800 yen. The former for general, the latter for the youngins and the like.

The building, a former Idemitsu Kosan materials storage facility built during the Taisho period, was renovated and expanded, creating a unique museum with a retro atmosphere. This time, I visited the museum because of the special exhibition "The Lineage of the Rinpa School." The atmosphere was calm, and the exhibition rooms were small, allowing me to take my time to appreciate each piece. Also on the first floor, there is an exhibition room dedicated to the founding of Idemitsu Sazo, the founder of Idemitsu, where you can learn about the journey of the man known as the pirate. The exhibits are carefully organized in a tranquil space, and naturally convey not only the appeal of the works themselves, but also Sazo's thoughts, lifestyle, and aesthetic sense. His challenges as a business owner, his passion for culture, and his unique philosophy of valuing people. Learning about these backgrounds made the exhibits seem even more three-dimensional. It's extremely valuable not just as a place to view artworks, but also as a place to experience the founder's spirit. This museum offers a quiet, quality experience. (Translated by Google) The delicate sense of distance between Tetsuro and Maetel makes composition of the photo difficult. Like Captain Harlock, his expression changes depending on the time of day. During the day, the bronze statue is black, so it is difficult to take a photo, and Tetsuro's facial expression will be distorted. On the other hand, night photos allow you to immerse yourself in the world of Galaxy Express 999. By lighting up, Tetsuro's expression becomes clearer. Since these two statues are installed on benches, people sometimes occupy the benches for long periods of time in the cool evening and night hours, and there are many cases where you cannot get a good photo opportunity. Kichijôji is a serene Buddhist temple and praying space that welcomes visitors to admire its natural beauty throughout the seasons. From the breathtaking Sakura, Wisteria, and Hydrangea flowers to the vibrant hues of maple leaves, there's always something stunning to behold. The temple hosts an enchanting wisteria festival during Golden Week, showcasing this beautiful flower in all its glory. Nearby, a park beckons with a sightseeing tower and open spaces for leisurely strolls.
Breathtaking temple with beautiful wisteria flowers. It gets very crowded on the weekends when the wisterias are in bloom so I HIGHLY SUGGEST you go early in the morning during a weekday. The Buddha statues they have on the temple grounds had very beautiful faces that I couldn't take my eyes off of. The senbei(Japanese crakers)they sell are also very tasty and would recommend as a omiyage (they tasted like giant fortune cookies 🤤). The wisteria flavored soft serve ice cream was very popular as well. The family who runs the temple were also very nice. It has been a while since I have felt such kindness in Kyushu. You can tell they take good care of their temple.

This is a temple and praying space for Buddhist. People are free to enter but please respect the holy area. Nice area for enjoying nature according to the seasons: from Sakura, Wisteria, and Hydrangea flowers to the changing color of maple leaves. They usually have wisteria festival since wisteria during the Golden Week. Wisteria is probably the most known flowers here. There is a park nearby, offers a sightseeing tower and an open space. The park is worth to visit. Public toilet is available in the temple area. Plenty of parking area, however note that during the peak season it won't be available. Public transports are available, within around 5 minutes walk using bus from Kurosaki or Orio station cost around 400 jpy, or by taxi which cost higher around 3000 jpy.

There is a toilet. However, there is no toilet paper, so either bring flushable type or purchase it at the store for 20 yen. The grounds are large and located on a hilly area, including the adjacent Kichijoji Park (with an observation deck), so there are mainly stepped promenades and stone steps. If you want to take your time and admire the wisteria trellis in front of the main hall, be sure to prepare your feet properly. Birthplace Mountain Kichijoji (Tanjosan Kichijoji, commonly known as Kichijoji). The birthplace of Chinzei Shonin, the second founder of the Jodo sect. The principal image is a wooden seated statue of Amida Nyorai. It is famous as ``Mida of the Belly Belt,'' and the votive tablets used to pray for safe childbirth are prominent. The only time you can directly worship the Gohonzon is during the Gokaicho memorial service, and it is usually kept hidden. On the grounds, there are statues of Nio, Kissho Kannon, Raigo Mida Sanzonbutsu (Kannon Bodhisattva, Amida Nyorai, Seishi Bodhisattva), and statues of Enma. Nagging, a must-see. The bluish rocks from Shikoku are also amazing. In front of the main hall and in front of the Enma-do hall, a pulley device called ``Dainenju'' is hung. When I slowly pull the prayer beads down while reciting Namu Amida Butsu, the wooden beads collide and snap! Crackling! Quite a sound. Ah, this is what I heard earlier. I want to get rid of my earthly desires and try to get along in a bright and honest manner. It's a temple where you can enjoy the beauty of flowers and trees throughout the four seasons, but when you think of Kichijoji, it's definitely the wisteria flowers! The best time to see Noda Fuji, which is said to be over 160 to 170 years old, is from mid-April to late April. Several types of wisteria have been planted, and their blooming times are slightly different. I hear many people say that they thought they missed the best time to see the flowers this year, but they were relieved that the late-blooming varieties were blooming. The Wisteria Festival is held from April 27th to 29th every year, which is the peak season. Stalls are lined up and Kichijo Taiko is performed. Admission is free, but wisteria requires time and money to prune and maintain. I would like to pay more than 100 yen out of gratitude. It's also a good idea to buy Buddha lottery tickets, lucky charms, and sweets. This is the season when the famous 400 yen soft serve ice cream flavored with wisteria flowers becomes delicious. Take a slightly sweet wisteria rice cracker (sold separately for 110 yen per bag of 2 pieces, also available in boxes) as a souvenir. Please note that the parking lot is not available during the Kichijoji Wisteria Festival. There will be no temporary parking lots near the venue, so please use public transportation. This is a free to enter museum hosted by NTT in an old exchange building. It covers the history of telecoms in Japan, with phones from all eras, working exchange equipment demonstrations, and lots more information. Google Translate did a good job helping me read the signage! If you reserve in advance you can also see the exchange gear on the 2nd floor - the electromechanical crosspoint switches were a highlight for an old telecom geek like me! Recommended.

If you are interested in the history of of telecommunications (and analog era 8n particular), this is THE museum to visit. Some exhibited items were in working order and could be operated by visitors; more delicate machines could be demonstrated by staff, and I was REALLY lucky to witness a demo by the curator herself. Mikuni World Stadium Kitakyushu is a hot and humid place to watch a game, especially from the B seats without any roof. Visitors are advised to wear hats and bring towels for sun protection. It's recommended to bring cold drinks, snacks, hand fans, and sunglasses for added comfort during the match. Despite the challenging weather conditions, watching live games at this stadium is described as powerful and fun.

(Translated by Google) This football stadium, located just north of Kokura Station in Kitakyushu City, is suitable for both association football and rugby football matches. Because it's not a general athletics stadium, it doesn't have a track, and its distinctive feature is the proximity of the spectator seats to the court (pitch). It's conveniently located just a 5-10 minute walk from Kokura Station on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen line, and boasts an interesting view of the sea just behind the back stands, making it a great stadium. The open entrance also allows for smooth flow of people, which is a great feature. The stadium's facilities are not particularly large, making it unsuitable for matches with an audience of more than 15,000. Furthermore, the lack of a roof on the back stands means that spectators may be exposed to the scorching sun and direct sunlight depending on the season and time of day. I've used it several times for Japan's national rugby union matches, and I found it to be a very convenient and comfortable stadium. Wakamatsu Ebisu Shrine The origins of Wakamatsu Ebisu Shrine date back approximately 1800 years. When Emperor Chuai came to Chikushino Province with Empress Jingu, when they reached Kukinoumi (present-day Dokai Bay), they were greeted by the singing of the lord of Oka prefecture, the bear crocodile. *Speaking to superiors), the Emperor navigated the open sea and the Empress navigated the inland sea. When the Empress's ship sailed through Dokai Bay in the Inland Sea, the warlord Takeuchi no Sukune, who was accompanying her, sent a fisherman to investigate the ocean floor, whereupon they discovered a crystal clear and divinely shining boulder. When the Emperor presented it to him, he took it and was pleased, saying, ``This is a sign that the god of the sea will protect me on this voyage to Tsukushi.'' So Takeuchi Sukune pulled his boat to a nearby beach, landed, and enshrined this sacred stone, which is said to be the beginning of Wakamatsu Ebisu Shrine. This sacred stone is still enshrined deep within the main shrine as a sacred object. The main deity, Kotoshironushi-kami, is called ``Ebisu-sama,'' and Okuninushi-kami is called ``Daikoku-sama,'' and both are affectionate and revered as gods who bestow happiness, wealth, and longevity on people. You purchase a ticket at the reception desk, and if it's your first time, you watch a guidance video. After that, take the elevator to the 14th floor and start your tour. Basically, you can see the history of global maps, the history of Japanese maps, and important maps in that history. At the time, there was a special exhibition on the history of maps in Hokkaido. It was a weekday, but there were few customers, so I was able to take my time looking around. Photography of exhibits and videos is prohibited inside the museum. The fee is 1,500 yen. My impression is that the fee is a bit high. You can learn about the historical changes in old maps, but they change little by little, so you have to look closely to see the differences. There is a simple cafe on the 14th floor where you can take a break after your tour, and although the weather was unfortunately bad on this day, I think the view from the window would be beautiful if the weather was good. It is recorded in the Kojiki that during his eastern expedition, Emperor Jimmu visited Okada-no-miya Shrine, prayed to the eight deities of Tenjin and Jigi, and stayed there. This is a shrine with a long history and venerable history, appearing in the Kojiki, one of Japan's representative historical books. As you proceed from the main gate, there are three gates in a row, then climb the stairs to reach the main shrine. On this day, on the way to the main shrine, a heart shape was made out of ginkgo leaves, giving a sense of humor to the historic shrine. Facing the main shrine, there is a golden dragon on the left. This sacred bird is said to have blinded the enemy with its brilliance during Emperor Jinmu's eastern expedition, leading him to victory, and is said to bring blessings when you want to achieve victory. To the right of the main shrine is Yatagarasu. Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow. It is said to be a sacred bird that guided Emperor Jimmu during his eastward expedition and led him to victory, and is said to bring blessings when you find yourself at a crossroads in your life. Yatagarasu is also deeply believed as a god of guidance. It is also a symbol of leading to victory, and has been adopted as the emblem of the Japan Football Association, and is also written on the uniforms of the Japanese national team.

(Translated by Google) I was surprised by the number of goshuin stamps available. And they're all so colorful and cute. No matter how many times I visit, I can collect different ones. There are statues of the Yatagarasu, the Golden Kite, and the Eho Inu, and statues that are said to bring good fortune when petted. It's moon-viewing season, so they were holding an event where people wrote their wishes on strips of paper and prayed while wearing rabbit helmets. The shrine itself isn't large, but I think they do a great job of displaying it. I'd been feeling unwell for months, so I prayed here as a last resort, but I felt better the next day, so I think the prayers really paid off. It's amazing how strange things can happen. Thank you.

There are a variety of goshuin stamps, and it's a shrine that is pleasing to the eye as well, so I felt at ease. It's a shrine I would like to visit again. The road leading up to the parking lot is narrow. (Original) 最近、不運続きなので地元の神社を探して初めて訪問しました。 御朱印も様々な物が有り目でも楽しめる神社で癒されました。 又、行きたいと思える神社です。 駐車場に上がる道が狭いです。

My route was Route 200 → Turn right at Toguricho intersection → Along the road in front of the shrine → Turn right in front of Kurosaki police box → Shrine parking lot and Uchako route. Please be careful if Kurosaki Police Box is used as a landmark instead of the exterior of The Police Box⚠️ Parking is available via the paid coin parking lot behind the police box → there is a dedicated parking lot for the shrine. Even from a paid parking lot 🆗 Although it is located in a residential area along the road, the precincts were quiet and had a nice atmosphere. The wheelchair-only parking lot is located on a slope behind the shrine, and you can access the shrine grounds without leaving your vehicle 🉑 It would be even more reassuring if you have a companion with you. There are toilets and drink vending machines on the grounds. Otemizusha is sensor type and GOOD Kinku and Yatagarasu are also GOOD Above all, there are a wide variety of goshuin stamps! Hard collectors will probably find it a no-brainer. There are also paper-cut Goshuin stamps → Colored ones are also available! ! ! ! ! ! Even though it's located in a quiet residential area, it feels like it's trying to incorporate new values and trends, and I thought, ``It's the times.'' I personally thought it was good. I hope you will continue to do your best. The weather was good and I was very happy to be able to visit the shrine. I searched online for cosplay photoshoots in Kitakyushu and found Arikawa Photo Studio, located inside Okada Shrine! We took a few shots in the studio, and, being careful not to disturb the worshippers, we also took some photos with Okada Shrine in the background. I'm glad it's a memory that will last a lifetime. The chozuya (water purification fountain) is sensor-operated, and the grounds are well-kept and clean. There are plenty of goshuin (temple stamps) available, and the information boards are electronic, making them modern and easy to use. There is also a photo studio on the grounds. It's close to JR Kurosaki Station, the grounds are well-purified, the view is beautiful, and it was an uplifting space. I love Abe Chisato's Yatagarasu series, so I was delighted to see the magnificent Yatagarasu and Golden Kite statues.
