Milch is a cozy bakery and dessert shop in Yufuin known for its German-style mini-cheesecakes made with local dairy products. The shop is located near Trick 3D art Yufuin along Yunotsubokaido street, and it has an open kitchen where visitors can watch the chefs at work using milk from local farms.
Knew this place from online recommendation, and its not dissaponting at all. Plus : hot cheese cake is SUPERB! Fluffy, soft and hot. Love it. Chocolate pudding and pistachio cream cheese are also good. Minus : the queue is long
Angelia T — Google review
I ordered this cheesecake and pistachio cheese cup. Both were delicious!! But the pistachio one was too good that I had to come back and bought another 2 cups!! It’s not too sweet. The creamy part was very soft and yummy!!
C K — Google review
A popular cheesecake store. It comes in a cup and served warm if you’re eating immediately. If you want it cold, you have to get the takeaway boxes which comes in a set. Very creamy, bottom layer comprises of the sweet biscuits and cake mix. Interesting texture but slightly sweet, happy I got 1 instead of the whole set which was tempting!
C — Google review
Must try!!! A cheese cake cup that melts in your mouth. Very soft and creamy texture, rich in aroma, and not to sweet. The kase pudding was also delicious with many texture, but I prefer the cup cheese cake more. 🥰
Pimchanok P — Google review
Milch will probably be the first stall that commands a queue when you arrived. Not to be confused with the Milch nearer to the station. The queue is for their baked cheesecake, a ramekin sized semi formed soft cake that sits on a warmer after exiting the oven. Patrons can eat in (around the shop) or takeout. They have other seasonal flavours such as matcha, chocolate and pistachio when I was there.
Alvin L — Google review
Milch in Yufuin is known for its delicious, creamy cheesecake that’s rich and slightly runny, making it a real treat. However, the wait can be quite long—expect around 20 to 30 minutes for a takeaway order. There isn’t a designated place to sit and enjoy it, so you’ll have to eat it on the street, which can be a bit of a hassle. Despite the wait, the cheesecake is definitely worth it if you’re craving a sweet treat, just be prepared for the queue! If you happen to visit during a quieter time, you’ll have an even better experience.
J C — Google review
Very famous dessert shop in Yufuin, I waited for near half hour for the queue. I tasted 2 Lava Cheese Cakes & Milk Pudding & Lava Matcha Cake, they were delicious😋~ So it’s worth to spend some time for waiting.

Pudding is creamy and delicious. The caramel sauce isn’t too sweet not bitter. Yummy.

Bakery
Cafe La Ruche is a stylish bakery and cafe with stunning views of Kinrin Lake. It offers a variety of delicious breads, light fare, and substantial dishes like their renowned burger and cinnamon toasts. While some visitors found the food to be underwhelming, others appreciated the decent coffee and tasty baked goods. The highlight of this place is its picturesque setting by the lake, providing a peaceful ambiance for enjoying breakfast or coffee.
Although the main catch seem to be the view, we found the food quite appetising. The mushroom bacon sandwich was lovely. The plain croissant and almond croissant were perfectly done. The only pity was I only found the toaster for “re-bake” after we have finished half of them. The sausage sandwich didn’t look very promising but the combination of that ?sourdough baguette and strange sausage went surprisingly well. The cheese cake was so yummy that our little boy begged for the second helping. Coffee was so so.
Liwei C — Google review
Enjoyed our lunch with a superb view of the lakw. All the food including the cheese cake, the soup and the sandwiches were delicious.
Susan K — Google review
Sensing my mum's exhaustion and hunger after finally making our way to Kinrin Lake, we decided to rest here and fuel up. Got some food and then have her rest while I circle the lake for photos. The mushroom tartine has a nice sourdough base and bits of bacon and loads of mushroom on it. Loved the bread so much I bought the bread sticks by the cashier for snacking.
Alvin L — Google review
I dropped by here to have a coffee while enjoying the view. The location of this cafe is good, overlooking Kinrin Lake. Their coffee was not the best but still good on a cold winter's day. Not sure if this was the only toilet stop in the area, but lots of people were queueing for the washrooms, and it was quite dirty after being used by so many tourists. I would recommend coming here in the morning instead, which will not be so crowded.
狐鸣 — Google review
It was a rainy Friday morning so there were barely any people in the café. The views were amazing but we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. All the bread seemed freshly baked and the drinks were amazing. Would recommend!
Michelle M — Google review
Cafe with a beautiful unblock view of Lake Kinrin. Ordered Cafe latte & ice cafe mocha. Great break after walk around lake.
Pauline N — Google review
Honestly I think the food here was a little bit of a let down for us. We weren’t too thrilled with the things that we ordered - have had better elsewhere. The coffee was decent though and the baked goods were alright. What makes this place outstanding is the view and the atmosphere. The restaurant is tidy and clean - and the lake is just always a beautiful site. Seating is usually no problem as well, we managed to find seating for 5 and a place for a stroller quite easily. Even though you may not be here for the food - grab a drink and sit by the lake, it’s worth a visit in itself.

Excellent breakfast place with a lovely view of Kinrin Lake! Breakfast was delicious especially their brioche bread with omelette! Latte coffee was good! A lovely place to come to! Go early as it gets busy!

Yufufu Yufuin Ekimae is a charming spot that I visited recently. The pudding and cake were delightful, and while some reviews had me a bit wary, I found the experience quite enjoyable. The unique selling point here is the owner's amusing attitude - not as extreme as other places where staff might be rude, but still adding an entertaining touch to the visit.
Went there a several months ago. It’s not all that bad actually, the pudding and cake were pretty good. Well I read the reviews before going so I know what I got my self into. To me his attitude was kind of the selling point. It’s not to the point like those other restaurant where they swear at you. He only subtly raise his voice xD.
Akkharit W — Google review
Disrespectful and rude service with mean stares. The food was overrated, and you can easily find better options nearby with friendlier staff. It's not worth the price to have your family treated poorly. I understand he might have had a bad day, but similar Google reviews make me wonder if the internet should hold him accountable. Some people may find it easy to dismiss, but his attitude reflects poorly on Japan, diminishing the hard work of the near-by friendly locals.
Allen H — Google review
The owner was very rude. We tried to order a pudding and he asked us how many, we said, he was upset already. Then trying to pay with coins, he was super impatient and keeps murmuring. Almost got all the coins, then he was mad and walked away. Said NO. What a terrible experience 😨?!
Cheryl H — Google review
Grandpa got attitude. His rudeness made me want to back out while ordering but decided to push through thinking he was just having a bad day. Comments here say otherwise 😂 pudding was ok, had better. I initially had plans to return the next day for the roll cake but scrapped it. Will happily try something else where instead.
Mikiko Y — Google review
The attitude of the male cashier staff is very rude. Not recommend to purchase the cake from this store. You may choose to walk a little bit to buy the cake from another store.
K L — Google review
It was such a mistake that I dropped by without looking through the Google reviews. The owner was very rude and unpleasant. The egg roll and pudding tasted not bad but not worth at all with that kind of attitude. It used to be a popular dessert but not anymore. Plenty of stocks left even later in the afternoon.
In-Sook K — Google review
The cakes are quite normal. The shop staff was very grumpy. Not recommended to come here. If you are looking for a cafe, then try somewhere else.
Jia C — Google review
Visited today and everything went fine! I initially ordered a pudding and a slice of the roll cake, and then decided to get another slice while Grandpa was preparing my order (orders for takeaway only). He did so without any attitude whatsoever. Cake and stuff were so yummy! I hope people would give Grandpa and his shop a chance...

Duo is a charming cafe with a unified, finished wood and white decor that creates a bright and cheery atmosphere. The cafe is renowned for its 3D latte art featuring animals and popular characters, created using perfected milk foam. Customers can also enjoy light meals such as open-faced sandwiches, croissant sandwiches, and an array of cakes including moist pound cake and souffle cheesecake. Visitors have the opportunity to interact with the owner's rescue cat Ku-chan while sipping their coffee.
I love everything about this place, the coffee and the matcha is good, kind staff, the latte art is so lovely and I like that you can also draw something into the latte art. Also I am absolutely stunned that it was easy to get a place usually it is so difficult in Japan to get into a cute coffee or popular restaurant and Yufuin is a crowded place so I wonder it I just was extremely lucky or it is still a secret spot. Anyways I absolutely love it ❤️
CookieColaCherry — Google review
Interesting cafe with artistic decoration of cats on each drink . Customers can touch up the cat decorations with a chocolate pen supplied by the cafe owner . Worth a visit when you are in Yufuin !
Steve C — Google review
We went to Japan for vacation and this was a highlight of my trip. My family wanted to go to a cat cafe and we found this cute cat inspired cafe. Sadly the cat wasn't there but the drinks were very nice. What I didn't know was that we got to draw eyes and other parts of the foam animals on the drink! The matcha milk was very fresh and tastes lovely. Would come again!
Pooh W — Google review
This was such a nice cafe. The owners were so sweet. They gave us ice in a bag because we were clearly hot after climbing Mount Yufu. We also got to pet and cuddle with their rescue cat Ku-chan. The latte art was amazing and you can decorate your art a little by yourself. The price is reasonable. Most coffee and lattes in the area cost the same without the cute art. The cafe has its own parking area.
Celeste B — Google review
Found this place on Google. Very IG social media vibes place. Apparently good for cat lovers. But the coffee is not good at all. Poorly extracted and I believe is brew with a super auto machine and not an espresso press. But the owner takes a lot of effort to decorate the latte art and gives very good service but this place is not suitable for a serious and picky coffee drinker like me. Cafe Anata near the coop supermarket is much better..the coffee there is really good.
Jeremy T — Google review
There is so cool stuff here. The latte are taste and delicious. The latte of bubble is so cute and very attractive. The cafe Duo is so nice. If you with family or couple will be good. So cute isn't it?? I really like it.The master of the latte.

I ordered their tea set, which only cost 650 yen. It comes with roasted green tea and a mochi dessert. Taste very good! I like both the tea and mochi. The ambiance is very nice too, open air under the tree with shade, can feel the wind blowing and enjoy people passing by. It's a good place for a break after the long walk...

The matcha warabi mochi was soft and delicious! A good place for a short break from the busy Yufuin streets.

Stopped over for a late afternoon tea break. The mochi and shaved ice are tasty, and there are plenty of seast available. Definitely a resting spot for the legs and not having to be with the crowds on the main street.

The warabimochi was really nice and despite the accidental wrong drink order, it was nice too. The service was friendly and they were very quick with preparing the food and drink.
Phil L — Google review
It was 10°C when came for coffee in the afternoon. We had come from the lake. We decided to have coffee. The coffee was good. Warabimochi was good. Matcha dango was good. Hanayori is a good place after exploring Yufuin.
Anony M — Google review
Quaint little place that has decent dango. Their green tea is very good too. Gets slightly crowded after lunchtime but people don’t stay for long.
Teck B — Google review
This review is only for their warabimochi drinks We got hojicha and milk tea The milk tea is just bottled milk tea from supermarket poured into the cup. The hojicha however tasted really good. Big let down is warabimochi. It was hard, tasted cheap, not soft and gooey like authentic warabimochi.
Kh A — Google review
Meh. It’s really just okay. Ice cream is a little too sweet, azuki is a little too sweet. I would have preferred the mochi texture to be a little lighter. Good for a quick bite but this isn’t an artisan type of place.

Nestled just a short stroll from Yufuin Station, telato is a beloved matcha gelato shop that has been delighting visitors since 1976. This charming spot specializes in premium matcha sourced from Hoshino Village in Fukuoka, offering an impressive range of flavor intensities from 1 to 5. Each cup promises a delightful experience with its rich aroma and velvety texture, perfect for any matcha enthusiast!
Stopped by Telato in Yufuin and went all out with their matcha gelato—tried four flavors because we couldn’t resist: different intensities of matcha, plus Gyokuro and Yame Matcha. Shared them among us, and honestly, every single one was soooooo good. Creamy, rich, and packed with flavor. The most expensive one (highest intensity) was super bold—my friend, a matcha lover, tried it and said it was overkill, even for her. The 5x and 4x intense ones hit the sweet spot perfectly, no need to go higher. Short queue, quick service, and totally worth it if you’re into matcha.
C H — Google review
We really enjoyed the matcha gelato that was offered here. In the past, we have gone to a similar place and opted for the strongest flavour but once having done that, I can say that the recommended level of 3 actually really hit the spot. Strong enough flavour to appreciate the quality of the matcha but not overpowering. The texture is also really nice so I would recommend in general. May consider trying their other non matcha flavours too.
Phil L — Google review
Still a bit too sweet for my liking, I hope it can be a bit more bitter and more mocha..y.
Otto L — Google review
If you’re a matcha amateur but don’t mind the bitterness, the 4x flavour is the way to go. It’s the perfect balance between sweetness and the intnesity of matcha. It’s also the one that seems to sell out the fastest. The shop is a bit of a walk from the rest of the action in Yufuin, and there seems to have been a bit of a price hike lately, but the quality of the ice cream definitely makes it worth it. So no matter whether you’re a matcha lover, or just looking to try some authentic matcha ice cream, it’s definitely worth paying this place a visit.
Himson N — Google review
Staff is so polite and friendly This matcha gelato sets the new benchmark of matcha dessert , for me. I get to bring home the cup!!

Stunning choices of the matcha ice cream. You can chose among 5 types and one extra premium (x5 cost wise). The ice cream is delicious

If you like green tea, you will definitely love it!!! There are 6 intensity levels of matcha flavours to choose from.
Vicky L — Google review
Amazing gelato that’s just a few minutes’ walk from the train and bus station. Different levels of intensity of green tea flavor and there is even a premium one at ¥3,000 yen for a scoop. Otherwise the normal flavors are at a very decent ¥500 and it’s one of the smoothest and well made matcha gelato I’ve had.
