This is the historic Old Court at Domplatz in the historic city centre of Bamberg. The Old Court was originally a palace made by the order of Emperor Henry II for the Bishop of Bamberg at the beginning of the 11th-century. The row of half-timbered buildings in the rear date back to 1475 while the Renaissance style Ratsstubenbau building and main entrance gate date back to around 1568. This is where you find the City of Bamberg History Museum occupying much of the Alte Hofhaltung. Opening hours 10am to 5pm daily (closed on Mondays). If you don't have time to visit the museum, you can also pass through the entry gate, taking a look at the old half-timber buildings and other structures within inner courtyard before moving on to other intended sightseeing like Neue Residenz or Bamberg Cathedral.

Old Court was built in 1007 on the site of a fort used by Henry II as a residence. By 16th century it was replaced by current Renaissance building under Bishop of Wurtzburg. Courtyard is open to the public from 9am to sunset. Nice example of half-timbered houses architecture. There are free restrooms in the courtyard.

Lovely medieval architecture. It is a few steps away from Bamberg Cathedral and next to New Residence. The historical museum is housed here and visitors can see it by buying a ticket at the entrance.

Another classical medieval era building. Worth a visit if you love old historic buildings and architecture. Built in 16th century, still carries the fragments of history with a cobblestone courtyard and a large half-timbered building decorated with big baskets of blooming flowered. Standing there will definitely make you feel going back in time. A part of the movie Three Musketeers was filmed here in this courtyard. Located next to Bamberg cathedral and New residence so, you cannot miss this place.

Heard the smoked beer was awesome, so I dropped by Bamberg during my holiday. Grabbed dinner with friends too. The pork shoulder was really good—highly recommend! Snagged a 3-pack of beer to go ;) The place was packed, though—tons of people at the door, which threw this tourist off a bit

The smoked beer was great, very unique. Taste like smoked sausage. Definitely a must try when in Bamberg. There were many people just chilling outside the restaurant chatting, while drinking. If you want to do the same, how it works is that you will need to pay a deposit “pfand” when ordering your beer, if not mistaken its €2, then they hand you the mug of beer. When you’re done, just head back to the counter, return the mug and get back your deposit. Enjoy!

Famous for their Rauchbier I now got to try their food. They got the typical local dishes. We had the Krustenbraten and Tafelspitz. Both dishes were well prepared. They are quite busy in summer, but they made space for our large group. Great hospitality. But for some reasons they do not entertain bachelor parties.

An authentic Bamberg brewery and restaurant. Because it’s ranked at the top of almost every tourist guide, it does get very crowded with visitors – many of whom just wander through or have a quick beer while standing. But if you take the time to sit down, order and enjoy the excellent beer, it’s well worth it. The food is hearty and tasty, service is fast, and while the staff aren’t overly friendly (a bit of an assembly-line feel), they are attentive. The only real downside to dining outdoors is the sheer number of flies – you’ll be busy fighting them off for your meal.

We visited this place for lunch and sample Franconian kitchen and the legendary smoked beer. We were greeted by a very pleasant man in glasses who told us many interesting things. Overall, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We didn't have to wait for a table; we were seated right away. The atmosphere is very authentic, in the old German style. We ordered sausages with cabbage and beef brisket with potato ball in a creamy cranberry-horseradish sauce. Everything was delicious, I highly recommend it!

Good food, great beer. I would definitely make a reservation, we were lucky and stood by until a table opened up. Friendly service especially considering we had two children and the place was packed. Best place to get a rauchbeir in Bamberg!

Food was yummy, but we wanted to try the bamberg food which was option 2 in menu 17euro, the waitress brought us option 3,23 euro.. we did not notice it and at the end when we noticed we told them,,, instead if apologizing or getting 17 euro they made us pat for the wrong...

It’s kind of okay place but too touristy and I wasn’t impressed by food or beer. It wasn’t bad but doesn’t make you to have it again.

I came here twice during a trip to Bamberg and I ate on both occasions. The food and the beer were excellent and so I can highly recommend Mahr's Brau.

A bit of a drive from the Altstadt and only walkable for the most dedicated. Plenty of parking, though be careful because I got a parking ticket just as I was leaving! In a quiet part of Bamberg next to a nice old church. Since it's outside of the old city, it's a larger facility, with a proper biergarten and a large indoor seating area with some nice bathrooms. Busy bar window with some of their best offerings on draft. Friendly, young folks working the garden. Food was traditional and the sausages with sauerkraut and mustard were delicious.

Perfect outdoor beer garden and excellent beer. Can't wait until come back!

Mahrs is noted in the beer world but it's just far enough from the Bamberg city center to ensure it's not full of tourists. Certainly some make it out here, especially those in search of beer. The food can be exceptional, especially the goose breast. Low wooden beamed ceilings and barman in vests make for an atmospheric time.

Their beer is top notch and about the beat around. They service can be hit and miss. There's indoor and outdoor seating available. Prices are a touch higher than some other breweries nearby.

This restaurant is definitely not on the tourist attraction side of things. It's as local and authentic as it gets! Its small and very cozy. The lighting is dim and the seating is close which makes for a intimate setting....The staff knows English and they are very nice and accommodating. The beer is made there and the food is authentic Bavarian and very good! If you get an opportunity to get off the beaten path(tourist path) and go here for a drink take it and you will not be disappointed.

Very cute and nice coffee shop. They got a great variety of coffee beverages and very delicious assortment of cakes. It is centrally located in the heart of Bamberg. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Zuckerstück is definitely my favorite place in Bamberg. This Café is unique, the variety of drinks is impressive (I can't recommand enough anything with peamilk), and the cakes look as good as they taste. The quality of what they offer is simply delightful. But most of all, the staff is SO nice. Always a true smile on their faces. Always ready to listen and advice. This place feels like home. I have already brought so many friends and family. All of them fell in love too.

The Galão was good but Pastéis de Nata not so much. Actually one of the worst I ever tried so can’t recommend. I hope their other pastries are better

Plenty choices of cakes, coffee, tea and other drinks. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Although to be honest, it‘s not my cup of tea. It is still worth trying, maybe you will find a cake you like. After all the price is affordable. 2 cakes and a cup of latte cost less than 12€.

I tried several cafes in Bamberg and finally found the best one. 1. Atmosphere This place is amazing. The vintage kinds of stuff are greeting me when I arrived. The cozy, warm interior is well organized in this cafe. 2. Cake I tried Mohn Schmand, and Pastéis de Nata, and both tasted wonderful. So I ordered Applestrudel later and (obviously) that was also great 🤣. 3. Staff All staffs are super kind. I kept asking about drinks, the ingredients of the cake, and the taste, and they always answered kindly.

Second time in Bamberg, second time at Zuckerstück and the experience was the same. Good drinks and the desserts are truly homemade. The staff is very friendly with everyone and the prices are below the quality.

I do not often write negative reviews, but I did not like the food quality in comparison with the very high prices. It may be my personal opinion, so I will report few facts. I took the “Perlhuhn” (guinea fowl), the price for this main dish is 29€, the meat was served with the skin of the fowl and with a sauce on it (picture). In my opinion the skin should be removed before serving it. Regardless of the skin, I find such a simple dish with minimal vegetables and apple sauce not to be worth the price. My fiancé was satisfied with the spring rolls. Additionally we ordered the cheeses plate as dessert, the quantity was minimal for 17€ dessert, i.e. three cheese pieces. The service was very good. I am gluten-intolerant and they have gluten-free options. Overall I do not recommend.

Bravi! A rare restaurant with a good balance between, food, atmosphere and price. Plates are well arranged with an armonic and well balanced taste. Great the mix of taste, Forelle with banane cream excellent. On top, price is more than reasonable for this kind of plates.

I went there with my best friend to have some great sushi 🍣 we really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere was also lovely! The interior was really well decorated. Would highly recommend it for good sushi, if you love sushi and are in Bamberg this is the place to go.

The best Restaurant for any Asian dish I've ever been to. The food is incredibly tasty and freshly Hand-made. The Chicken fell apart just by picking it up and the service is extremely friendly.

One of the best sushi places I've been to. Food is always great and the waiters are friendly. Here you can actually see that every dish was handcrafted in the kitchen.

I've been to this restaurant for 4 times now. The food is delicious, no matter if steak or fish. I highly recommend to eat inside since the atmosphere outside isn't that nice. Also the service seems to "care" less with the years. Overall probably the best place to have a steak in Bamberg.

The location is great, the food was good - but it took a totally unacceptable nearly 2h to get our meal and the "you can see we're busy tonight" as sole explanation from the waitress didn't make it any better. Bummer, but despite good food I don't think we'll come back here after this debacle.

Far a way from what we expected. Asian woak with duck meat , somehow Was a tasteless dish . Waiter was somehow rude , we just asked her very politely, is the dish coming with the rice ? Sorry guys. It was well done instead of medium. Sweet fries were overcooked, too much friesh I would say. And the biggest disappointment goes to the bun. It was too crunchy and it broke in my hands. Bun should be more malleable or elastic. For paid price you will get only 3 stars. Too get more stars you have to cut your prices at least at half or to improve your burgers.

Best burgers in town! They have the classics - which taste delicious - and, what I value even more, they get creative with their burgers. I've been there multiple times and was never disappointed. And self-made Sauces are quite good, too and go great with sweet potato fries. You should reserve a table between one and three weeks in advance. Personal Favorite: An open face burger with beetroot and sweet potato fries, for desert cheesecake!

I was really looking forward to try the burgers, they were supposed to be the best around... Must say I was really disappointed. The meat was dry and bleak... Don't know about the rest but I definitely wouldn't recommend those. The place itself is good looking, great selection of beer... For a night out with friends a good spot.

If you're looking for delicious hamburgers made with quality meat, this is the place to be. The Caprese salad tasted good too. The room inside the pub is not wheelchair-accessible, but I made it up the 3 steps and inside nonetheless, with the help of the waiters. Highly recommended place. I'll come back for sure.

Very nice place, great service, pleasant atmosphere, delicious food, despite the fact that the menu is more on vegetarian area (you will find however also some meat dishes). The portions are big so if you enjoy also a starter or a soup (recommended), get the smaller size of the main dish! Good luck further in keeping the restaurant running in these special times!

Ordered crepes with ice cream & hot chocolates. Waitress stated ‘cash’ only and had to pay up front Euro 18.40 Handed her euro 20 and no offer to give change….she just kept it!!! Very rude. Had to ask 2 times for the cream and then she wanted extra for cream even though it was included on menu price. We said take it out of change you just kept?….she said that was a tip. A tip is given not just taken and definitely not deserving of a tip. Cream eventually came but crepe was cold by then. Hot chocolate was nice but my crepe was burnt, other crepe was ok

Cozy Café located in the middle of the city with very disappointing food and service! We were able to find a seat outside without a problem during the middle of the day on Saturday and enjoy the nice atmosphere of a street artists while sipping Aperol Spritz. That being said, service was simply not good - not very pleasant nor engaging, with no English speaking skills. What struck me was the fact there was no willingness to satisfy the customer. I wanted to order 2 dl of secco (only 1 dl option available in the menu) and I was told NO, that is not possible. The answer - that they have only small glasses that cannot contain that much liquid - didn't satisfy me. The menu was available only in German. The food was bad as well - my Greek salad was a parody of a salad - it was full of lettuce and soaked in Balsamic, barely edible. Drinks were good, normal. I am still in awe of places like this, located in the middle of a very touristic city, that does not offer payments by card. I would not come back here again, nor would I recommend it to someone else. Visited in July 2022.

Location and service are good. The waiter was very friendly. The food is unfortunately below mediocre. I had matcha latte and crepes. The crepe was like rubber, with little taste. Matcha was more like milk foam with barely a punch of matcha taste. I do not recommend it if you appreciate tasty food.

Had breakfast which was ok. It was quite busy which is good to see. Staff seemed friendly. There is a good amount of seating inside and when the weather is good there are quite a few tables outside. They were struggling to clear tables and I had to ask 3 people for the bill to pay, took ages. I had the scrambled eggs with ham which was nice. They offer soya milk as an alternative to normal milk for the cappuccino which was also ok. Was just the service that let it down.

Café Müller is your typical yet charming European Café. Come here and you will be surrounded by university professors and students alike, reading the newspaper and drinking wine. It feels like once of those places that has forever been tied to the history of the city. We came in for lunch, order a couple of Aperol Spritz for the hot summer afternoon. We ordered the pork chops with gnocchi in a heavy mushroom sauce. We also ordered spinach spaghetti with shrimp. Overall, the food got the job done, but unimpressive. I would definitely come back here, but it would not be my first choice in Bamberg

We visited on a busy Saturday night and had a sushi menu for two. The Sushi was excellent but that was about it. The service is inexperienced and slow. We waited 20 minutes to order and then at least half an hour to get our food. Afterwards we, as many other tables were ignored and not asked if we wanted anything else. So we took nothing else and had our drinks and dessert somewhere else :)

Authentic and delicious Asian cuisine in a variety of styles. We had a Chinese dim sum appetizer, Japanese Ramen and Sushi, and a Thai Chicken Curry. Japanese Mochi and a Coconut Panna Cotta for dessert. Extensive and interesting drink menu too, with everything from Mai-Tais to Alcohol-free Guava Refreshers. Everything was yummy, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Beautiful decor, plenty of people here on dates and celebrations. Glad we came here, and happy to recommend it. Right across the street from the Bamberg Hauptbahnhof.

Compared to the Wurzburg branch, the burgers were really bad. Plus, the waiter's tablet was broken so we had to wait 20 minutes on a hot day for the waiter to take our order. He ended up taking our order by hand and we can't understand why he didn't do it earlier. The tables were sticky and inside whole area was really hot.

Very nice atmosphere, amazing staff, and good burger selection. The restaurant is a lot bigger inside than the storefront. I tried the New York Chilli Cheese and it was very tasty. The beef was a bit overcooked for my preference. Fries were good, and of course the beer was tasty. Definitely a good place for a burger if you’re in the area.

The best choice for hamburgers in Bamberg is here. Chic and modern, great drinks and incredible onion rings that you must try. Every time I travel to this city, I definitely do not forget the hamburger

There is tons of seating, and if the weather permits, I recommend sitting outside. There are awesome lunch specials that are super cheap if you are looking for a quick bite. I got the hibiscus lemonade, and it was very refreshing on this summer day. It is a German style lemonade, so it is carbonated. The matterhorn burger was delicious with a potato croquet in it, and the sweet potato fries were nice and crispy. I will be coming here for lunch often during the summer.

Nice relaxed beer garden. They got beer and wine. And of course the traditional Bavarian dishes. Unfortunately, the day we were there it was raining. Thankfully they have a patio area with a roof.

A favorite for the locals and a tourist stop too. Good hiking shoes if walking the steep little hill from downtown. Beautiful open space, flowers still in season in September. Easy self-service with all food options you expect from a biergarten. Bring cash, always the preferred or only method of payment.

Great place. Bit of a hill to climb to get to it, but it’s worth it. Only opens for restricted times, and at certain times of the year, so check before you make the pilgrimage. An undefined brewer supplies very good beer and although I didn’t eat here, the food being offered looked delicious. All selbsbedienung (self service) and well worth a visit!

Doesn’t have the views Spezial-Keller does but still a fun biergarten with great beers and a real local community vibe. Food looks good but we were surprised with a limited Sunday menu so we didn’t get anything as the items we wanted were not available. Counter service. A bunch of trees but not much cover so might not be best place to go when raining. Worth a visit 🙂

A really atmospheric Bierkeller up the hill in Bamberg with leafy trees and a nice old wooden fixtures. It's not a brewery but they have a few beers contract brewed for them, as well as a few city favorites. Food looks good and fairly priced. If you are going to the nearby Spezial Keller, you should check this one out, too.

The hike up the hill can be a bit steep, and it is decently far away from any other places for food or drinks. Though that doesnt mean it wont be crowded. So if you want something a little more out of the way and secluded. This is the spot. The beer was good. I personally enjoyed the Keller. The food was great and reasonably priced. Overall, it is a great spot.

A must visit for family/group picnics with the option to buy whatever food and drinks needed (self-service). The garden is spacious, beautiful and perfect during a hot day to find some cover under the large trees. The food (Schäuferla!) was great, but it was especially the open atmosphere that makes this Keller special.

Been here several times and the quality of service and food is always high. Friendly service and helpful. For the food you get your money's worth with tasty food and a lot of it. We had breakfast for two and we could not finish it but took the rest home,,😃 you don't want to leave good food behind, also they will happily give you a bag for it.

Nice place for lunch in downtown Bamberg. The waitresses didn't smile much but where attentive enough to keep it at 4 stars...the prices are fair and the food is good with the wrap being the best out of the 2 things we ordered.

Ok restaurant good and tasty Asian food with big portions. The negative side was outside tables were reserved and we were not allowed to sit wherever we want the girl waiter told os to move to another table. We observed no one was there when we were at the restaurant for over an hour. We saw customers who want to sit outside but wasn't allowed to do it so they just walked away. If the restaurant still use this practice we will not come back again.

Food was very tasty. Prices are fair. Sometimes it takes a long time for the waitress to notice you're trying to get her attention, even when she's not busy.

In this Asian cuisine, good service and polite staff, the dishes are normal, the portions are quite large, it is better to order several dishes to try, but one portion at a time.

Food was alright, in my opinion pretty average Asian restaurant. Can't really say much about the sushi as I only had the inari as a starter but based on that I was glad that I had chosen the pho bo noodle soup. The soup itself was ok but again nothing outstanding. Service was good. Would probably recommend to make a reservation in advance as it seems to be quite popular.

An incredible selection of Asian specialties. Duck, cow, chicken and many more meat options with vegetables and rice. Also many soup and noodle options available. Many sushi and nigiri options available aswell. Cocktails and normal drinks all available here aswell. The food was very yummy and came quick. Servers were all friendly and seemed to enjoy their work.

There is a fair indoor seating area, the restaurant seems rather popular, being full up when we visited for lunch midweek. They had to turn a few people down once tables were filled. Opening hours are 9am to 4pm daily (closed on Sundays). During our lunch we were served two very good Christmas Bowl and the vegan friendly Sweet Pot Bowl both beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients and dressing, large portion size and importantly, they tasted very good. Prices reasonable for what was served, service friendly and timely. Just a great healthy food option for those planning trip to Bamburg. Would gladly eat here again.
