1Ventura Botanical Gardens

Botanical garden
Ventura Botanical Gardens, a project initiated by passionate Ventura residents in 2012, is nestled in Grant Park's steep foothills. The 107-acre green space offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the ocean, city of Ventura, coastline, Channel Islands, and surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore the Demonstration Trail, a mile-long path with hand-made stone walls and decomposed granite surface.
We visited Ventura Botanical Gardens on a March afternoon and spent about 3 hours hiking the trail up the mountain and back. It's sectioned by plant type, so you can walk through areas of plants native to a particular area of the world. Allow enough time to enjoy the views and gardens and not be too rushed. I would say 2 hours, at least. Admission is $7 per adult non-member. Members, children 18 and under and EBT cardholders enter free of charge. Fridays are free as well. I advise sunscreen and a hat if it'll be sunny. There is very little shade along the trail.
Ned G — Google review
I absolutely LOVE the botanical gardens, it is such a gorgeous walk with increasingly beautiful views of the ocean as you ascend the trail. The plants are magnificent, with different regions showcasing Chilean, Californian, Mediterranean, and South African plant varieties. Fridays are free entry and Wednesday and Friday dogs are allowed. I visit every time I have friends visiting and it’s wonderful to see how the plants look in all the different seasons! Could not recommend more.
Madison P — Google review
Great place for the Ventura ocean view. Not interested in the plants there to be hornest, as some were bone dry. Also great to get your steps in and hick up a hill.
Albert B — Google review
Gardens were beautiful. My only complaint was that we got locked out and had to walk all the way around. I think it would be common courtesy to let us know when we bought tickets at 3:30, they would have warned us that we would be locked out if not back by 5:00.
Kevin W — Google review
Started the morning at Ventura Botanical Gardens, which has 160+ plant species and spectacular views of the California coastline. It has nearly 3.5 miles of walkways and over 100,000 plants from Five Mediterranean climates throughout the world."
Robert S — Google review
Even though this was a bit off-season and a lot of the flowers had turned, it was a beautiful walk. The people were so nice, a great way to get some exercise.
Shannon F — Google review
Friendly staff at the entrance. Clean and clear path with a staircase to cut through the path if desired. Great views and peaceful.
Liliana X — Google review
We walked the trial, and it was magnificent! I recommend bringing snacks or having a picnic. Many areas to rest and enjoy the beauty of nature. Staff is welcoming and dedicated.

Historical landmark
Mission Basilica San Buenaventura 1782, located on Main Street in Ventura, California, is a historic Spanish mission with a church dating back to the 1700s. The site also features gardens and a small museum displaying local artifacts. Founded by priest Junipero Serra in 1749, the mission has faced various challenges throughout its history but still stands as a symbol of Catholic and Spanish culture.
Beautiful mission, relaxing, serene. Very informative. The short video is a must watch. The grounds are will maintained
Valerie M — Google review
Amazing history. Cost is $8.00 to self tour the grounds. Well worth it if you love historical places
Charles R — Google review
This is a beautiful mission. The priests really care about the parishioners and people in general. The gift shop is my favorite with very friendly staff. There is a chapel which has a Michael Angelo authorized replica of the Virgen and Jesus and many amazing relics from saints such as St. Jude! Their entry fee as a museum is very low, and I support it because it is a beautiful historical site that must be preserved for our children. I love their small garden. It is very serene. The bathrooms are located behind the gift shop through the garden and other bathrooms are located on the outside behind the church. I love this place!!!
Gold S — Google review
The Mission Basilica is beautifully preserved, showcasing rich history and stunning architecture. The church and its peaceful yard offer a lovely place to reflect and explore. There’s a small museum at the entrance that gives great insight into the site’s past. Plan to spend about an hour here—it’s the perfect quick cultural stop. Tickets are available at the door.
Emile A — Google review
Mission San Buenaventura is a nice small Mission. Has lots of history and interesting artifacts. Well maintained and clean. The garden is nice and the church and alter are beautiful. The gift shop is nice. We paid $8 per adult at the gift shop. The self guided tours begin in the gift shop and they provide you with a map that is easy to follow. Overall it was a great experience and I do recommend.
Eric L — Google review
We stumbled upon Mission Basilica San Buenaventura by chance and didn’t even realize it was right in downtown Ventura! Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to see the whole place, but we did get to step inside the church, and it was absolutely beautiful — peaceful, historic, and full of charm. We’re definitely planning to come back to tour the entire mission next time. A lovely hidden gem in the heart of Ventura!
Neen C — Google review
Incredibly beautiful and well maintained church and gardens with museum quality presentation. While they make you go through the gift shop to pay the entrance fee, the modest price ($8 for seniors) was well worth it. The highlights are the church (don’t miss the altarpiece and the Pieta and reliquary) and the immaculately maintained gardens with Queen Palms waving over the myriad flowering plants and bushes. The museum was good, but we didn’t have time to peruse it fully as we were headed out to Santa Ynez.
The S — Google review
Beautiful courtyard, an unforgettable original rivers-of-life main entrance double doors, and a real nice stained glass rendition of Calvary (the site of Jesus’ crucifixion).

Ventura Harbor Village is a vibrant waterfront complex featuring an array of specialty boutiques, art galleries, and delightful waterfront restaurants with stunning sunset and ocean views. This family-friendly destination offers a diverse range of activities including boat rentals, beach volleyball courts, and whale-watching expeditions. Visitors can explore the charming promenade for leisurely strolls or enjoy live music events and pop-up markets.
Had a great time here! 🐶🏖️ We took our dogs and enjoyed the beach for a few hours. Met a lovely couple and their eight-year-old daughter – the kids had a blast playing together! Definitely planning on coming back soon! 🥰 #BeachDay #FamilyFun #DogFriendly #Vacation #Memories

This is a fantastic spot to relax with family or friends. We especially enjoyed Coastal Cone Ice Cream, with their unique Taiyaki fish-shaped waffle cones filled with ice cream—it was a highlight! Margarita Villa Mexican restaurant was decent, though not particularly memorable. There’s plenty of parking, and the beach is just a short walk away. Unfortunately, the boat rental was closed on Sunday, so we missed the chance to ride the swan boats, which would have been a great family activity.
Baljinder S — Google review
I think we hit every shop in this place looking for trinkets to take home to my family I found a few and of course after finding the little things I was wanting the very last shop would have been the best to purchase at. Don't remember the name of the shop but they had some great deals. Bottom line the shops in the harbor that are left there or nice to shop through and the people were great.
Ed W — Google review
Always a pleasure to be here! Not so crowded, can always find a parking spot even on the weekend, love to walk around, have some seafood or ice cream, fun doing the boating, life is better with the cooler weather here.
Yan Z — Google review
We love to take the boats out. We usually pay to rent them for an hour or so. It's a fun activity. My kids love it!!
Angela T — Google review
There is a lot to see just walking around. Little shops to go into. Food. Drink. You GOT to rent a paddle boat or kayak for at least an hour. Its safe and interesting and beautiful. I saw seals, fish, and birds close enough for a thrill but far enough to be safe. Some of the paddle boats are in the shape of big swans! There are also electric boats with sun shade that carry a small group.
Michele W — Google review
The scenery is beautiful. The beach wasn't crowded at all,but it was a little chilly that day.

Hit the new BOBQ by The SEA shop for some Thai Ice Tea -- met the owners, couple of very friendly, helpful guys. Shop is in the Soft Opening phase, but is already comfortable, clean and inviting. They have plenty of seating, inside and out on the patio. Their selection of card games gives it a homey feel. Their Thai Ice Tea was really good -- Daughter and I have been trying different Boba spots lately and we both agree: Boba by the Sea is the BEST we've had yet! Wish we lived closer?! If you're in the Ventura Harbor area and need some good Milk/Boba Tea made by a couple down to Eaetg guys that KNOW what they're doing? STOP IN AND GIVE EM A SHOT!

Park
Nature & Parks
Surfers Point at Seaside Park is a small beach destination popular among surfers and windsurfers. Situated at the beginning of the Ventura River, it is adjacent to Seaside Park and features a lagoon teeming with indigenous birds, making it a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts. The south-facing beach creates ideal surfing conditions, attracting surfers from all around. Backed by a boardwalk and palm trees, this spot offers picturesque views perfect for photography.
Surfers Point in Ventura is a revered, yet challenging, surf spot that delivers exhilarating rides for experienced surfers. Its reputation as a haven for intermediate to advanced locals is well-earned, offering powerful waves and dynamic conditions. However, this dynamism is a double-edged sword. The surf here is notoriously fickle, shifting dramatically throughout the day, demanding adaptability and local knowledge. The wave quality can be exceptional when conditions align, but consistency is a rarity. Swells vary wildly, and the point's exposure means it's susceptible to rapid changes in wind and tide. Crowds are equally unpredictable, ranging from sparse sessions to densely packed lineups. Localism is a significant factor at Surfers Point. Respect for the established hierarchy is paramount. Beginners and those unfamiliar with the etiquette are strongly advised to steer clear. The atmosphere can be intense, and a lack of awareness can lead to unpleasant encounters. This is a spot for those who possess both skill and a deep understanding of surf culture. In essence, Surfers Point offers thrilling surf for those who know how to navigate its complexities. It’s a place of fluctuating fortunes, where local knowledge and respect are as essential as surfing ability.
Jonathan D — Google review
Surfers Point Park is that perfect Ventura blend of laid‑back and lively. There's energy without chaos, nature with amenities, and community presence with plenty of room to find your own spot. Whether you’re riding waves, enjoying a scenic walk, or simply reflecting by the sea, it's a place that feels both alive and serene. I left with sandy shoes, salty hair, and a genuine sense of calm. Great spot to catch sunset as well!!
Chris W — Google review
This beachside memorial exudes a profound sense of peace and reflection, standing as a gentle reminder of both the beauty and fragility of life. Nestled between palm trees and overlooking the vast ocean, the tribute is simple yet deeply touching. The surfboard, adorned with “Rest in Peace,” and the surrounding stones painted with heartfelt messages and mementos speak of a community’s love and remembrance for a lost friend. The tranquil setting complements the solemnity of the memorial. The rhythmic crashing of waves, the soft rustling of palm fronds, and the warmth of the sun create a harmonious backdrop. It’s not just a place to remember, but also a space to find solace and healing by the sea. It serves as a meeting point for memories and emotions—a sanctuary for all who wish to pause, reflect, and honor. Beyond the memorial, the beach itself offers a serene escape, with its golden sands, inviting walkways lined with towering palms, and the distant pier stretching into the horizon. It’s a quintessential Californian scene, blending the laid-back atmosphere with a deep sense of connection and community spirit. Visiting this place feels like stepping into a quiet, sacred space on the edge of the world—a beautiful fusion of nature, remembrance, and peace.
Ramin H — Google review
Beautiful spot to people watch, walk your dog, skip stones into the ocean, or build sandcastles with your kids. Parking isn’t free.
KDG — Google review
It is a surfer's paradise, with good waves and sandy beaches. With good parking, restrooms, and changing area. And best of all are the beautiful ocean view and good waves for surfing.
Kuma H — Google review
Great beach for walking on the path and rockhounding! Very dog friendly too.
Sarah L — Google review
Beautiful sunsets, surfers, fresh seabreeze, quiet place to walk, think, and enjoy.
Victor T — Google review
We loved it, the beach with large rocks and boulders. Sunsets are gorgeous 😍. Free parking after 5pm, but not recommended to stay if you have small kids. We lost/dropped something very valuable when we realized we turned around went back around 2 min had gone by and it was no where we know it was there because of its use. so I wouldn't bring anything valuable if you are going. But gorgeous recommended for sure for sunsets. Thank you for reading please check out the other locations we have visited.

The Museum of Ventura County, established in 1913, is a cultural treasure trove showcasing the rich history and art of Ventura County. Founded by Dr. Cephas Bard, the museum boasts a diverse collection ranging from priceless Chumash and Mexican-American artifacts to prints of the first-ever Ventura newspaper. Originally a private collection, it has since expanded to cover 15,000 square feet and includes an Agricultural Museum on its premises.
We happened open the museum on the first Sunday of May and the admission was free. What a bonus! There were 3 installations and all 3 were superbly curated. Though small, all of the exhibits were thoughtful and filled with such wonderfully talented artists. Though admission was free, I would have paid a $20 entrance fee and left more than satisfied with the experience. (we were happy to donate)
Daniel G — Google review
Interesting museum. Loved the support of local culture and artists. Definitely a fun place to take your kids.
Leon P — Google review
We enjoyed our time here, Dracula doll exhibit was impressive and so entertaining, I had fun reading story and walking through with my family. Kids enjoyed outdoor space and all the hands on activities. Enjoyed learning some of Ventura’s history through photography. Kids free, military 50% discount. Would recommend and will come back in the future :)
I W — Google review
The staff were great here and I would have most likely rated the museum as a 4 but the day I visited, the main gallery was closed for setup of a new exhibition. At least I was able to visit their native American and Catholic doll exhibitions. Have to admit the dolls were very interesting but some were a little scary.
Bill F — Google review
Infull disclosure, I am a docent there. But this is a hidden jewel in Ventura. George Stuart's figures alone make this a go to. Right now there are also two exhibits, one featuring photographs of Ventura county and another that features landscapes of Ventura, encouraging people to linger with a circular bench in the space.
Monica S — Google review
Couldn't really explore because they were having some kind of poem reading so kids had to be extremely quiet which is impossible. Just hung out at the garden for a bit. But it's free so cant complain. Garden has very nice murals.
Vero L — Google review
Great place to spend the afternoon with the family. There is a childrens garden as well. Every first Sunday of the month is free admission, otherwise the cost is 5, which is fair considering they have staff to support.

Excellent park to start your run/jog or walk down the shoreline. Huge parking lot and you can pay at the booth $10 for the whole day, or download the Yodel App and pay by the hour. There is a large grassy area with plenty of picnic tables as well as restrooms. This park also offers RV parking. Easy access to the beach and the bike trail that goes all the to the Ventura Creek trail.

It's a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering various family-friendly amenities such as playgrounds, volleyball courts, picnic areas with tables and barbecue spots. The park features walking paths and a spacious grassy area perfect for beachfront picnics while enjoying views of the harbor.
Thumbs up all around from the toddlers to mom and dad. We stopped in on our way south to Disneyland to give the kids time to stretch their legs and burn some energy and couldn’t have been happier. This 10.5 beachfront park opened in 2015. Some of it’s offerings include: Nautical-Themed Playground: Features a large lighthouse with a red tunnel slide, a “spiderweb” rope climber, and play equipment suitable for toddlers and older children. The playground is adjacent to a sandy, wave-free bayfront beach ideal for kids. The Marina Park Community and Sailing Center provides sailing classes, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard rentals. Lighthouse Bayview Café is a restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with harbor views, located under a fake lighthouse. Basketball courts, an outdoor fitness circuit, picnic tables, a large grassy lawn. 177 parking spaces at $2.10/hr. ParkMobile app friendly.

It's a whole vibe. I recommend yoga with friends. Also, the beach is great, the access to the harbor (and ocean) is also great, and the parking is fantastic. What a gem.

I love Marina Park, specifically on a hot day. Jumping into the water to cool off is wonderful. This park does have a lot of traction since its at the beach like most beaches in the summer. But with that said the city keeps it very clean. If been coming here for decades and I enjoy it every single time.
Rogelio J — Google review
Love this park. Plenty of grass to chill on with the kiddos, a nice park for the kids, a massive ship that has zip line and right on the beach. The waves can be a bit rough but still a nice spot.
Sandandsea18 — Google review
Marina Park is a beautiful and relaxing place to spend time with family and friends. The park is clean, well-maintained, and has plenty of open space to enjoy fresh air and nature. It’s right by the water, which makes the atmosphere peaceful and refreshing. The playground is perfect for children, with safe and fun equipment to keep them entertained. Restrooms are available and well-kept, which is very convenient for visitors. The park is also dog-friendly, so it’s a great place to bring pets for a walk or playtime.

Love that it's both a park and beach 🙏🏽 love to bbq here! Such a fun place to go 🥰😻

Quiet park on the beach. Picnic tables, grass, playground, watch sailboats, clean restrooms, dog friendly, very relaxing 😌 😎
Cathy H — Google review
A clean and fun park with many amenities. There is a decent sized free parking lot as well as some street parking. The large grass area is great for picnics and family gatherings, flying kites, or playing with friends. There is a large play pirate ship at the sand for the kiddos. We saw many people bring their dogs here. There are also dog bag stations throughout the park. A meandering sidewalk leads you to the beach, dunes, or out along the peninsula. There are areas for fishing harbor side and ocean side. There are also plenty of benches throughout the park and along the sidewalk path. Great for relaxing and watching the sunset. The city does a great job of keeping up the park.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Serra Cross, located in Serra Cross Park within Grant Park in Ventura, California, is a historic wooden cross with a rich past. It was once used as a navigational landmark by mariners and offers panoramic views of the city of Ventura and the Pacific Ocean. The park spans over 100 acres and is closely related to the San Buenavista Venture Mission. Visitors can enjoy nearby hiking trails and stunning sunset views from this hilltop location.
Perched high above the city, the park offers breathtaking panoramic views of Ventura, the coastline, and the Channel Islands on a clear day. Sunset is pure magic up here! The park is small and simple & parking can be a little tight, especially at sunset, so be prepared to park further down and walk up the hill. But honestly, the short hike is worth every step. I’d definitely recommend bringing a light jacket since it can get breezy, even on warm days
Chris W — Google review
Totally worth a stop here - gives a view of the entire Ventura area. Also a peaceful vibe here. There are a few benches around and the grass was perfect for a couple that brought their own chairs and another that was sitting on a picnic blanket.

Serra Cross Park is a must-visit in Ventura! The views of the city, ocean, and Channel Islands are stunning — perfect for photos or a peaceful stroll. The park is clean, quiet, and easy to access with parking at the top. Great spot for a quick stop or to catch a sunset!

Emma Wood State Beach, situated about two miles west of Ventura, is a popular oceanside destination offering activities like swimming, surfing, fishing, and camping. The beach is known for its rich marine life including perch, cabezon, bass, and corbina due to the Ventura River Estuary at the southeast end. Visitors can also spot dolphins swimming offshore and enjoy sightings of wildlife such as raccoons and great blue herons. Additionally, the park provides fire pits for a cozy beach experience.
Stopped by here to support state parks and enjoy the west coast beach. I arrived near the end of the day and the friendly ranger let me know to use the parking app for an hourly pay option, rather than the entire day use fee, so that was quite nice. I enjoyed my time, stayed about 2 hours. It was a clean beach, not very populated, and I was able to hop up on some riprap and just enjoy the beach for a while.

Easily accessed from Hwy 101 and, course, the PCH. Laid back spot, perfect for an impromptu stop or an all-day family outing. Whether you're a single person, a couple, a group of friends, or a whole family..... You won't be disappointed by the natural wonders of this large beach. I was there several days in a row (day use only) and never felt crowded. No services or hookups, just parking, the beach, the squirrels and seagulls, and of course the Pacific Ocean.

Nice place to park by the ocean and walk on the beach. There is a bike trail next to it also.

This place is an amazing place to camp when they open these camping spots under the bridge in about a year after restoration of the area according to public works

My favorite place in Ventura to take a walk on the beach minus all the crowds. Perfect for catching the sunset..
Naomi H — Google review
Great spot to camp right on the ocean. I have driven by this place for several years and always wanted to stay we got site #77 and it backs right up to the sand and rocks. There are these great stone fire pits people have built and there's plenty of driftwood to use for kindling. The campground is very simple as you have to bring everything you need with you. Only RVs, trailers and self-contained vans are allowed. There is a train that runs close by the campground, but I usually slept through it. The highway is further up the hill, so the road noise wasn't bad. I loved falling asleep to the sound of waves. As people have noted, there are no services here like restrooms or showers. Great spot to watch the waves. It does get windy in the afternoon. There are plenty of great restaurants close by in Ventura to eat. The beach in front of the campground is Rocky, but you can walk just north or south to find some sand.
Robert P — Google review
temporalily only a small section is open for daytime visits.Road is somewhat rough, but still worth a visit for easy access for surfing or picnic. Now, you won't be able to drive in anymore, further more there will be a 2 year construction to replace the bridge there.

Classic community theatre venue where every seat offers a great view. Wide range of plays and shows. A really special venue for Ventura that is worthy of your support!

Always a great experience at this venue. Just saw the Million Dollar Quartet and it was super fun and memorable. Excellent performances.
Brad H — Google review
Their auditorium is a very small one but the staff turns that to their advantage making best use of the space to stage a show with an intimate atmosphere. I felt like I was right up on stage with the actors. I could tell that the entire cast and crew had such a passion for their show. It's really nice to see a live performance and feel the energy between the actors and the audience. You owe it to yourself to find the time to attend a live show! Also worth pointing out that the theater is just a few blocks from downtown puting it in easy walking distance of lots of great restaurants and bars where you can enjoy the nightlife after the show.

Because each production is an individual and would be according to the taste of the individual watching it I will talk about the facility. A theater is very nice and cozy, the seating is very comfortable, the sound quality is quite good. There are not really any seats that are particularly far away from the stage. The Productions are always good and the cast is always very professional. I've never seen a show there that I did not enjoy. I'm sure you will feel the same. Enjoy

Live music venue
Nestled in the heart of downtown Ventura, The Majestic Ventura Theater stands as a stunning testament to 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. With its striking Churrigueresque facade and eye-catching marquee, this retro venue exudes charm and elegance. Originally opened as a movie house in 1928, it has transformed into one of the region's premier concert halls, hosting an impressive lineup of artists from various genres.
This is an older venue but it has been kept and has a great olt time feel. I sat in the balcony for Samantha Fish and the acoustics were very good. They have a full bar and the prices are reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Fabulous and historic venue. Quite intimate. Acoustics seemed good, too (I saw a music event there). The beautiful but musty 1920s vibe is wonderful. I loved it, and we'll be back. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, there was no A/C, so it was really hot in there. I had surgery on my ankle and had to use a knee scooter. I could not walk on that leg at all. I had purchased my non-refundable tickets to see Matt Fraser a month prior, so I had no idea I was going to have an injury. I was surprised to find that this theater is not accessible. I asked the employee who was putting on our wristband how I would get to the pit. That's what my tickets were for. The employee had no idea how to get me there. He asked if I could walk at all, and I said no. He was very nice, I have to add. He called another employee, and he was also stumped. He said there was a very steep ramp he could take me through, and that was the only way. He was right. It was very steep! He was a very tall, strong man, and I was thankful for that. He held on to the front of the scooter and helped me down slowly, and my sister walked along the side of me. To leave, he pulled me up, and another employee walked behind me just in case. I was very thankful for all the assistance I received. Every employee was so kind and happy to help. I just want people to know ahead of time if you can't walk at all. This might not be the place to go.

Some great shows in a small venue. Getting to/from the location is a bit awkward but it’s right next to downtown and there is a parking structure nearby so arrive early, enjoy dinner downtown, and then catch the show. We saw The Offspring and it was an incredible time.

When visiting Ventura, a trip to The Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center at Channel Islands National Park is a must for any tourist. This center serves as an essential guide for exploring the city and offers a variety of souvenirs. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing each island, browse through a bookstore, and observe aquatic life displays. The auditorium presents the entertaining film 'A Treasure in the Sea.'

We always enjoy visiting the National Parks. This one did not disappoint. From watching the very informative short video to the helpful staff. We also took the boat trip out to the Channel Islands. On the way, we got to see Dolphins and Whales. The islands and their history were just amazing.

Had booked a roundtrip with Island Packers for a Friday in September. Got there around 8am because I needed to check-in 45 minutes in advance for the 9am ferry to Scorpion Cove. The visitor center opened at 8:30am, so took a quick walk over to buy some souvenirs and postcards. Liked the setup inside, and the items were easy to find. Checkout with the staff was quick, and I was able to get back to my car, drop off the items, and walk over to Island Packers before they started boarding.

This is a wonderful National Park Headquarters for the Channel Islands NP. There is a movie about the islands, narrated by Kevin Cosnter, a botanical garden with plants and trees, a diorama with animals, and an aquarium with fish, all from the Channel Islands. Lots of books and gifts to buy for adults and children available. The docents are knowledgeable and very helpful. They can help plan a trip to the Channel Islands which is s must!

A neat visitor center for those visiting CINP. Get your Natl Park passport booklets stamped here as well as t-shirts, caps, trinkets and books! Their book selection on the marine ecology & environment of CINP outstanding btw! FYI - just remember that for those taking the ferry boat road from the harbor rides nearby, the boats typically leave shortly after the visitor center opens, and if you catch the last ferry back, the visitor center will already be closed or closing. CINP is a wonderful place, but remember that MORE THAN HALF of CINP is the Federally Protected marine sanctuary underneath the surface! Imagine seeing the largest pod of dolphins just minutes from CINP - we did! The boat captain said it had to be 5000+ dolphins! And a pod of Orca whales teaching their young how to hunt seals, with an actual seal carcass! ONLY IN THE MARINE SANCTUARY OF CINP! MAKE SURE THE GOVT KEEPS THIS PROTECTED!
Michael R — Google review
As far as visitor centers go its pretty neat! The rangers at the desk were kind and helpful. The center itself was pretty interesting and informative. Displays outside include a small nature walk with pamphlets about the indigenous plants and topographical maps of each of the islands and information about each one of them. Inside the center is a small aquarium with local wildlife, some displays of other locals marine life and facts about the local indigenous peoples, the Chumash. If you have the energy there is a tower you can climb up to the 3rd floor that has information on the different level of the ocean and a great view once you reach the top. We finished our trip by picking up souvenirs in the gift shop. We were there for about an hour. If you looking to kill some time definitely stop by and check it out.

A nicely laid out visitor centre on the mainland facing the Channel Islands. The gallery and interactive displays were enjoyed by all the kids. The stairwell paintings are very nicely done. Olivas Adobe Historic Park is a park featuring an adobe house and courtyard, constructed in the Monterey style during the 19th century. The museum offers visitors a casual experience of early California history. Docents are friendly and knowledgeable, providing historical information about the origin of the family and their home. The courtyard contains facilities for cooking and tallow making as well as kitchen gardens and flower gardens that appear to be neglected.
Knowledgeable docents capture life at the Olivas Adobe over many owners and many decades.

Cemetery Memorial Park is an excellent location for dog owners to allow their pets to roam freely without the restrictions commonly found in other parks. It is important, however, to remain cautious and mindful of those who may not share the same level of concern for their dogs' behavior. For individuals with large dogs like mine, weighing nearly 1,000lbs in total, it is crucial that they are properly trained and well-behaved.
We love coming here. Great view. I can throw the ball as far as I can for my dog to chase, she loves it! We walk around and I get my steps. Great views of the ocean and islands. Go for sunset hours as well! Also a great spot to read a book and chill! Enjoy!

Beautifully maintained. There is no playground or picnic tables, and only one of the benches gets some shade. If you don't like dogs randomly running up to you while you sit and picnic (or whatever), then I recommend another park. It has become an unofficial dog park.

One of the most beautiful places for a picnic in town, perfect spot to watch the sunset. Lots of dogs, so only major downside is when people don't clean up after their pups or the dogs are rowdy. And it is an actual cemetery, so just know that there are headstones here and there. Absolutely gorgeous place.

Families can enjoy the nature center and two playgrounds, including the city's first all-inclusive play area for children.
I love this park. There's tons of green space and trees and birds. You can bring your dog for off leash play in the mornings on weekdays. There's a couple great parks for kids and babies and there's a good amount of trails in the mountains to hike, some easy and some more challenging. You can see out to the channel islands on a clear day.

Nestled next to the historic Mission San Buenaventura, the Albinger Archaeological Museum is a treasure trove of local history that spans an impressive 3,500 years. This captivating museum showcases a diverse array of artifacts from various cultures, including the Chumash Indians and Chinese immigrants. Visitors can explore fascinating displays featuring remnants from Spanish and Mexican eras as well as early American settlers.
This museum displays archological evidence of hundreds of years of civilization in the Ventura County area. Visitors can enjoy indoor and open air displays of historic artifacts along with interpretive information.

Call the Museum of Ventura County, across the street, to verify it will be open. Free Admission. An entire museum dedicated to what was uncovered from the excavation of the city block. From prehistoric, Chumash, Spanish, Mexican, European, to present. Endless display cases of the finds.
Gary S — Google review
I've been meaning to visit this museum for years, but I just never seemed to be there while it was open... so when looking for something to do on a summer's day with the kids... this spawned a day trip to Ventura! With easy parking just across the street, we parked (where one would normally park for the Museum of Ventura across the street... another fabulous museum if doing things with kids) and happily ventured towards the "open" sign of the museum. Truth be told, I wasn't sure exactly what this museum was, and we walked in and discovered a relatively small room with various artifacts from several eras... But the SUPER cool thing about this museum is that everything in was estivated by archeologists at this location in a pit (that you can still see) back in 1971! Apparently, after an auto mechanic went out of business and they started getting ready for what came next, they started discovering artifacts... and it kept going and going! What's so cool is that they uncovered artifacts from several different eras and cultures the further down they went! As far as I-forget-the-year BC! But then later the Chumas, the Spanish, the Mexican's, the early American's, then the Chinese! It's super cool to see all these different artifacts from different cultures all discovered in one place! It years makes you think about what lives beneath our feet. Hedge expectations... it's small, but it's also FREE and as a general rule, I always give free museums five stars! Depending on how much you want to read, it's not going to take you too long to get through the museum... there is that one small room, and then you can go out back, see the pit and some various other spots they're set up... all in all it'll take less than an hour... but I love stuff like this! Apparently there are more museums in the US than Starbucks... so I really appreciate small museums. It's RIGHT in downtown Ventura, so it's easy to make a day of it. There are tons of restaurants, shops, the museum across the street and even a new arcade! The museum gave us a map of historic Ventura buildings and we did a bit of our own walking tour, but we actually (I don't know if I'd recommend this all in one day) walked all the way to the botanical gardens and did that after! That's a bit of a walk, and while I absolutely recommend visiting there... that might want to be its own day where you park in the lot. Definitely check it out!
Michael T — Google review

Nestled in the heart of Ventura, California, Golf N' Stuff is a delightful family-friendly amusement park that has been captivating visitors for over 45 years. This vibrant entertainment hub offers an array of attractions suitable for all ages, including two exciting 18-hole miniature golf courses that boast unique and creative designs. Thrill-seekers can hop on go-karts or enjoy the splashy fun of bumper boats and bumper cars.
This place was really great - the putt-putt course was doable for the kids and clearly marked. Most of the holes had tables to write on and benches to sit on and the landscaping was so nice. Also, the 80s music playing fit the vibe perfectly. Our kids love hitting up putt-putt whenever we travel (harder to find these places as time goes by) and I think this is one of the best we’ve ever visited. Young adults working the go-karts, bumper rides and cashier station were all so nice. The putt-putt course does have stairs throughout. Also, at the start of the putt-putt course it says to limit your group to 4 or less people - both of which did not affect our group but feels worth noting.

Really fun, classic miniature golf. We like to go every few months. The earlier the better. It starts getting packed after 12 on weekends. Plenty of arcades, bumper boats, bumper carts, and indy cars.
350ZLuis — Google review
The course on the left needs ALL of its tees redrilled, the course on the right was ok. The plants were well cared for throughout but the course itself was falling into disrepair in many places, and the water features were all sad looking. The fort needs some serious love. Very limited snack menu availability, lots of things listed but very little actually available for purchase. 1 person was running arcade prizes, the snacks, AND golf sales at any one time. Meh? We killed 90min but not sure I'll go back. We've been to other locations which are nicer than this one.

Golf n Stuff is awesome. I’ve been coming here for years and have many fond memories of it. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a fun, chill place to mini golf 🥰
Krill M — Google review
Great spot! Visible from the highway and easy to get to. Golf is a ton of fun, and there's 36 holes across two courses. You can either pay by the course or get a 2 hour pass, and both are reasonably priced ($18 for the course, $22 for the pass). The arcade is fun, with a tiny but mighty assortment of different games. There's also go karts, bumper cars, and bumper boats onsite, too. Good for parties or just to drop in, but it can get busy on the weekend.
Tanner C — Google review
Had a good time here. Felt like the prices are a little high but still had fun. Courses are challenging and fun. Didn't check out the arcade although there are a lot of games to play.
James I — Google review
A really great adventure golf location. Great vibe, cool courses, good music. It only loses a star for me because the prices for kids are way too steep. I have an 11 and 9 year old and they had to pay the full adult rate because they are over 40 inches, which I find a little bit ridiculous. Other than that it was a really fun time 👍

Movie theater
Regency Buenaventura 6 is a charming retro theater that offers a mix of recent releases and classic films. It's a great place for families, with affordable admission prices and a variety of concessions, including hot dogs. The theater has been around for years and continues to provide a clean, comfortable, and friendly environment for moviegoers. Additionally, it offers special deals like Wednesday night date nights with discounted tickets and snacks.
Our Grandchildren wanted to see "Addams Family" and it was playing at this theatre. This is a great movie theatre to bring kids, because the parking lot is small and a short walk to the entrance. Admission is less than $5.00- what a bargain 👌. It's been around for a long time, and I used to bring my kids there when they were small. All staff are friendly too.
The P — Google review
My daughter celebrated her 7th birthday here with several friends, and we had a fantastic experience! A few days before, I went in to purchase tickets, and the staff—especially Ayanna—were incredibly friendly and helpful. On the big day, everything was ready, and the process was seamless. The theater itself is older, so the seats don’t recline, but they were still comfortable—and at just $7.00 per ticket, this is the best deal in town! More than anything, the welcoming feel of the staff made the experience exceptional. The kids had a blast watching Dog Man (on opening day!) and we enjoyed popcorn, sodas, and licorice. A great perk was that they offer small boxes for just 25 cents, making it easy to split the popcorn—perfect for a group of kids! The concession prices were reasonable, and everything was fresh. I can’t say enough good things about their team! If you’re looking for a well-run theater with great prices and a warm atmosphere, this is the place to go. We will definitely be back!
Rachel C — Google review
This place is the best kept secret. This is the most fun we have had at the movies in a long time. The staff greets the moment you come in and makes you feel like they are glad to have you. This feels the way movies should. A great escape from the chaos. Nice reclining seats, tidy theatres and No big lines. The prices are amazing and the parking is super easy. Definitely looking forward to a return visit. The staff hit it out of the park. Bravo!
Shannon M — Google review
This theatre is really doing something special that should be cherished and I'll try to explain why I feel that way. Pulling into the parking lot and walking in feels like being teleported back to the 90s. Everything about it has that feel and aesthetic and its fun. You're also paying what feels like 90s prices in the 2020s. I bought my ticket, a big bag of popcorn, and a massive soda for under 20 bucks, what a deal. They have an atmosphere they are going for here. The purple paint, neon sign, brightly colored snack bar, its fantastic. It doesn't have the mechanical seats or the cutting edge sound system (and not every movie needs that), but it has character. Remember when one day we woke up realizing going Blockbuster wasn't a thing anymore and mourned that experience? This is the move theatre version of still getting to go to Blockbuster, go enjoy it!
S . — Google review
I’ve been going to this theatre ever since I was a kid and am so sad to hear it is closing its doors. The creative Flashback series, unique candy selection, and even the Date Night deal were always so fun! The staff has always been lovely throughout the years and genuinely seemed like they were happy to be there. Thank you for the memories, Regency and team!
Savannah C — Google review
Just heard this theater was closing and I'm heartbroken to say the least. I've been coming here since I can remember (3-4 years old). It isn't anything special in the sense that it doesnt have heated seats or anything but it was carries the magic that all local cinemas have. Protect your local theaters at all cost before they close like this one!
Charlotte M — Google review
Love this theater, been coming for years. The reason for my review however is due to ❤️Hazel and Oscar's exceptional customer service, alway making me and my family feel welcomed 😊 Thank U guys!

So good this place has always been the best. Everybody’s always so nice there. Tickets prices are awesome and they always give you posters.

The Ultimate Escape Rooms in Ventura is a fantastic destination for those seeking an engaging and interactive adventure. This venue invites teams to immerse themselves in themed rooms where they must solve intricate puzzles within a one-hour timeframe to unlock the escape code. With family-friendly options like 'The Wizard's Lair,' 'Mermaid's Curse,' 'Are All Mad Here,' and 'The Attic,' there's something for everyone, making it perfect for groups of friends or families looking to bond over challenges.
My husband, son and I really enjoyed it. Lots of fun! We had never done one before and I didn’t think I’d love it like I did. The hour flew by and wish we would have asked for more clues to get us going faster. It being our first time and never done anything like this before having a better overall explanation of what was involved and story we were to create to help solve the problem would have been helpful. Look forward to doing another one!
Shelly C — Google review
What's not to love? Happy hour and sunset at the Ventura Harbor Village, then this. It was a fantastic, really fun experience, even more than expected. I was the one who really wanted to do it, and the three who accompanied were reticent but willing to humor me. Afterward, though, ALL agreed what a blast it was, and we're definitely coming back. Shout out to Brandon, who made our adventure even better, and to Annette, who was so helpful in its booking : )

On July 2, 2025 I took my two goddaughters to this Escape Room in Ventura CA. I wish I could remember the nice gentleman that help the girls. They went into the “The Wizard Lair” and these two girls were alone in trying to figure out the hints. The gentleman was very polite, accommodating to them when they got stuck. It took them an hour to escape from the room. My Goddaughters are 10 & 9 yrs old and were able to understand everything and did it alone. I’m so satisfied with the service and the girls wanted to do another escape room right after they were done. This activity is great for anyone however you’ll have to work as a team. This was definitely a great experience with abundance of laughter indeed.

We had a great time. It was fun and challenging and our host did a great job! We found ourselves talking about it and debating who figured out what that evening at home
Tim T — Google review
This was my first time trying an escape room and now I definitely want to go again! The staff was very accommodating for a group of novices and it made the entire experience go very smoothly. The room was impressively decorated with wonderful little custom puzzles to manipulate and play with. They integrated the "plot" into all the puzzles in a way that made you feel like you were playing out your own story. One tip. The "mood lighting" does an impressive job setting the stage but bring a pocket flashlight to help read the combination locks. Reservations are recommended.

It was our first time to an escape room and it was incredibly fun and enjoyable. The staff of the ultimate escape rooms were so warm, friendly and helpful! They made our experience one of a kind! Looking forward to returning.

We did it for my 12 year old daughter's birthday Didn't think it would be so hard for the adults. (12-77 years old). We all had a great time with the wizards. Great Staff great at making accommodations.
Suzanne T — Google review
Awesome service! They have an awesome staff that is really nice and very helpful along the way. The escape room itself is so nicely decorated and really detailed, there are so many things to put attention to but only a couple are actually meant to lead you to get out. The attention to small details and immersion is great, the design of the scape rooms seems genuinely creative A really chill and fun experience , would recommend for sure to support this small bussiness ✨

Hiking area
Harmon Canyon Preserve in Ventura is a beloved outdoor destination, spanning over 2100 acres and offering extensive hiking and mountain biking trails. The preserve provides a seamless immersion into nature, with open trails that offer panoramic views of Ventura. Visitors can explore various difficulty levels, from kid-friendly paths to more challenging routes. Springtime brings an abundance of wildflowers, birds, bees, and butterflies to the area. However, hikers should remain cautious as rattlesnakes are occasionally spotted on hot days.
Good, clean hiking trails. Courteous hikers. Some of the trails are shared with the bikers. Great views of the beach at the top of the trails. Wear sunscreens and bring plenty of water on hot days since there's not many shaded areas.
Amie K — Google review
First time at harmon canyon absolutely breathtaking hiking trails beautiful view of ventura from the top of the mountains
Ricardo C — Google review
The area is carved out along power lines, orchards, school, and residences. EVERYONE was friendly. The birding likely due to nearby orchards was diverse, along with a red tailed hawk nests nearby the entrance. A handful of trail options but lower trails nicely grated and wider than most. That's important because there are bikes, humans, snakes, coyotes, and you can pretty much "stay in your lane". I loved the beautiful Oak, Founder's Tree which is a good dedication to conservation.
Mary U — Google review
I came for a bird walk and talk. Saw about 20 species of birds. Great walk, run, and biking trails. Many paths. Can go about 2.25 miles in from the parking lot. You can do more challenging trails that go farther certain times of the year.
Joanne C — Google review
Wonderful hike. The purple lupins were shoulder height and the fragrance was otherworldly. There are lots of great trails. Mountain bikes and dogs are allowed. Everyone we encountered was very courteous and kind. The tail was well marked and maintained.
Joshua W — Google review
I've ridden mountain bikes in Harmon Canyon on multiple occasions and there are all sorts of fun options available. If you want to do a wicked climb, you can head right to the top of the adjacent mountain and ride it down. Or you can just keep going straight back and the trails split into some impressive climbs.
Scott — Google review
One of my go to hiking spots in Ventura. It has several trails at different difficulty levels. Trails for mountain biking, trails for kids, trails for someone looking for a decent challenge. Great views of Ventura. It is at its peak during the spring with lots of wildflowers, birds, bees and butterflies. I’ve come across the occasional rattle snake so just be aware when hiking on hot days. There isn’t a ton of shade so make sure to bring lots of water. Ther are a good handful of old oak trees down in the canyon that offer a cooler stroll.
Nicole R — Google review
Some of the best designed and maintained trails in Ventura County. There's a central main dirt road that gradually climbs up into the canyon, with a half dozen or so trails branching off from it. These are so well carved into the hillsides that climbing several hundred feet feels like a breeze.
