Hiking area
Yume no Tsuribashi, also known as Dream Bridge, is a 90-meter-long suspension bridge that spans the Sumata Gorge in Shizuoka. The bridge hangs 8 meters above the striking emerald-colored Oma Dam Lake, which gets its vivid hues from the Tyndall Effect. Visitors are captivated by the unexpected beauty of this lesser-known gem and can experience thrills while walking across it.
It was beautiful. It's not for the faint of heart. If you are scared of heights, I don't recommend going there. But if you want to challenge yourself, it is worth experiencing the pure beauty the area has to offer. There are rules to walking on the bridge, so please follow the rules. Safety first. The walkway to the Bridge is a little ify since it's built into a mountain and all, but you just have to be mindful of where you walk. Went there on a Tuesday in the afternoon on a partly sunny day, so there was no wind and not a lot of people walking on the bridge.
Jermaine L — Google review
A very nice looking bridge. Be careful if you want to go in the evening. The last entrance for the bridge is much earlier than 5 pm we went there at 4 pm and it was already too late. So we are able to go around to the other metal bridge. The entrance fee is 500 Yen.
Ryusei H — Google review
A place with great scenery in summer. The suspension bridge spans a turquoise lake in the middle of a green forest. Up to 10 people can go on the bridge at a time. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the entrance. The fee is 500 yen, which is not much, but the attitude of the toll collectors is not good. There are many people who go through it without paying the fee, perhaps only foreigners pay the fee.
Potato.Coconut — Google review
Absolutely stunning view, the drive to reach the place is very challenging and you have to show your driving skills as the road (curves)in mountains are very narrow and sometimes only one vehicle can pass at a time ,DRIVE ONLY IF YOU ARE A GOOD DRIVER , the place and the suspension bridge looked more beautiful as it is seen in photos ,some hard climbing after crossing it but one can sacrifice for this beautiful view . Definitely worth on a good sunny day ,
Deepaxx07 — Google review
Imagine a beautiful lake; depending on the day, the color turns blue or emerald green. Crossing the bridge is for the brave, but the reward of enjoying the view from right above the river is incredible. To get to the bridge, you'll have to walk quite a bit, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes. In town, you'll find small establishments where you can grab a snack and a coffee or juice. There are also some places with hot springs. If you're lucky, you might see some deer walking along the riverbank—a beautiful sight. I recommend bringing a bottle of water, especially in the summer, when the heat can be exhausting.
Claudia M — Google review
The view was stunning. Walking on the bridge was a fun experience. It took quite some time to get to the area. I took all types of public transportation to the Sumatakyo Onsen area.

😭😭 amazing views!!!! It’s not easy to get there, but it’s definitely worth it! The turquoise water under the bridge, green mountains and the blue sky made a picturesque scene which you will never forget! I can say the views were breathtaking!

Mount Fuji, the iconic snow-capped peak and volcano, is the highest in Japan and the 7th highest island peak on earth. Yamanashi Prefecture, home to Mount Fuji, offers a serene escape from Tokyo's hustle and bustle. Visitors can explore the picturesque Fuji Five Lakes, Kiyosato highland resort, historical temples like Erinji and Kuonji, rejuvenating hot springs, and renowned wineries.
Definitely recommend hiking fuji. The sunrise is amazing and though a challenge it’s worth the rewards. And you get to stand on top of Japan at 3776m Quite crowded during August and not too easy to book the mountain huts but you can always join a tour
Kevin K — Google review
A Journey Above the Clouds Climbing Mount Fuji (3,776m) is more than a hike — it’s a test of will and wonder. From the 5th Station, the trail starts easy with cool air and ramen stops, but soon turns into a battle of endurance as the air thins and the slopes steepen. The night climb was magical — stars overhead, headlamps snaking up the mountain. Reaching the summit at 4:30 a.m. to witness Goraikō, Japan’s sacred sunrise, was pure awe. The descent? Slippery and tough, but the sense of achievement made every step worth it. 🌅Unforgettable. Humbling. Beautiful. My trip is started end of August , start at night for sunrise, layer up, and pace yourself.

Breathtaking and unforgettable experience! Seeing Mt. Fuji in person is truly magical. The view is stunning from every angle, especially on a clear day or during sunrise and sunset. Whether you visit the 5th Station, Lake Kawaguchi, or view it from afar, the scenery is peaceful and awe-inspiring. It’s a must-see landmark that captures the beauty of Japan’s nature and spirit. A perfect spot for photos, hiking, and unforgettable memories!
J _ — Google review
A reminder that Mt. Fuji represents strength, resilience, and enduring character, similar to the steadfastness of the mountain itself. A spiritual symbol of spiritual growth and enlightenment, a national symbol of Japan's strength, and a source of artistic inspiration.
Hua M — Google review
Don't underestimate this place, some may so it's a walk in the park but it's not. If you're not fit, you will suffer, especially if you plan on ascending and descending on the same day which is what I had done. I do a lot of walk and hike but this was the first proper mountain I had ever climbed. It wasn't so much of my fitness that was an issue, but rather, the altitude sickness. And yes, altitude sickness is real! About ⅔ into the climb, I started feeling the affects of it. For every few steps I went up in elavation, I kept stopping because I felt like hurling. Eventually, I threw up three times, at three different stages of the latter part of the climb. My companion on the other hand, who had never done this let alone walking or hiking, didn't suffer a bit. So it does differ in affects, from person to person. But having said that, do stay overnight and acclimatise for God's sake, as it will make the climb more pleasurable.
Tajul I — Google review
The gorgeous Mount Fuji! Blessed to witness this volcano peak on a clear day. One can never be tired watching this view the whole day.
Pranjit D — Google review
It was an amazing experience! View at the top will take your breath away and is totally worth the eight hour hike. We took the Subashiri Trail and stayed at Tomoekan. Enjoyed the nature, plenty of blue sky and the feeling of walking on cloud, literally. Highly recommend of you are considering this. To optimize your experience , highly recommend you work out and prep yourself physically well enough before the climb.

Visiting Mt. Fuji is a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. Seeing this majestic peak in person feels truly magical — its beauty shines from every angle, especially at sunrise or sunset. Whether you’re admiring it from the 5th Station, the shores of Lake Kawaguchi, or from afar, the scenery is serene and awe-inspiring. A true symbol of Japan’s natural beauty and spirit — perfect for photos, hikes, and lifelong memories.

Oma Dam, located in Shizuoka, is a gravity concrete dam built on the Sumata River as part of the Oigawa River system for electricity generation. The dam stands at 46.1 meters high with a crest length of 107 meters. Visitors can explore the area by taking the Sumatakyo Gorge Promenade Course, which features the impressive Dream Suspension Bridge spanning 90 meters over the cobalt blue Oma Dam Lake.
(Translated by Google) Oma Dam can be seen on the way to Yume no Suspension Bridge. It's hard to see because it's surrounded by trees, but If you look closely, you can see it! The letters on the signboard saying ``Oma Dam'' are scratched. It also gives you a sense of the length of time it has been operating as a dam. (Translated by Google) Dam Tour: Shizuoka-Oma Dam. (202403E) It is a gravity concrete dam with a height of 46.1 meters and a crest length of 107 meters. A dam built on the Sumata River in the Oigawa River system for the purpose of generating electricity. Unfortunately, access to the top of the dam is only possible on special occasions. You can also see the entire view from a distant bridge. This place is located in the middle of a hiking course that includes the ``Dream Suspension Bridge'' over Sumata Gorge, so we recommend that you include that in your visit. Walking through the uniquely colored river and surrounding scenery is very pleasant. However, during the season of fresh green leaves and autumn leaves, it is very crowded, and you may have to wait in line for nearly two hours just to cross the suspension bridge. Park your car at the parking lot at the entrance of Sumata Gorge Onsen, and walk to the dam and suspension bridge in about 30 minutes. Please note that the course is one-way, and you cannot return from the suspension bridge. Escape the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and venture to Mishima, Shizuoka for a breathtaking experience at Mishima Sky Walk. This renowned pedestrian suspension bridge offers stunning views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding natural beauty. Recently, new attractions like Forest Adventure and Long Zip Slide have made it a hit among families. Located conveniently near Hakone, Mishima, and Numazu, this is a must-visit stop while exploring the area.
Amazing spot! The longest suspension bridge in Japan with awesome views of Mt. Fuji and the bay (if the weather’s clear). The walk is fun and there are cool activities like ziplining too. Great place to chill with family or friends. Just plan your trip well because getting there takes some time. Definitely worth a visit!
S V — Google review
Really entertaining. There was more to do than just the skywalk but I ran out of time! The bridge itself is really sturdy and gives such good views. Mount Fuji was just hiding in the clouds most of the time so no iconic shot for me. Zip wires looked fun

If you want to experience the thrill of a very long zipline, this is the perfect place! 🪂💨 Not only can you enjoy the breathtaking ride, but there are also many other fun activities waiting for you. 🎉 And of course, if you want to catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Fuji 🗻, make sure to visit on a clear sunny day without clouds — otherwise, the view will be hidden. ☀️🌤️ 🌸🍁 I recommend going in spring or autumn, when the weather is just right — not too hot and not too cold. In summer, the heat can be intense 🔥, and in winter, it may be freezing ❄️. So plan wisely and enjoy the best views with the perfect weather! 🌈✨

Breathtaking views and thrilling experience! Mishima Skywalk is Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, offering stunning panoramic views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the surrounding nature. Walking across the bridge is exhilarating, and the scenery is absolutely worth it. There are also souvenir shops, cafes, and walking trails nearby to make the visit even more enjoyable. Perfect for adventure lovers, photographers, and anyone wanting a memorable experience in Shizuoka!
J _ — Google review
I visited Mishima Skywalk during Golden Week 2024, and it turned out to be an amazing surprise on our Shizuoka beachside trip. Most of the visitors were Japanese, which made the atmosphere feel very local and special. We tried biking across the area, and it was an unforgettable experience. The Skywalk itself, along with ropeway-style attractions and other activities, made the visit so much fun. The place feels exciting and a little bit thrilling, but everything is handled with excellent safety. Staff members provided helmets, shoes, and full guidance, making us feel secure the whole time. We also got our photos captured by the staff, which made the memories even more special. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in Shizuoka, with fun, thrill, and beautiful views all together. I’m so happy I went, and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable experience.

Stopped here after staying in Hakone. It was a day with clear skies and nice weather. The view was amazing and you could also see Fuji-san in the distance! There are zipline activities and a delicious sora (sky) ice cream.
Tiago T — Google review
Visit! The Sky Walk has beautiful views of the coast and of Fujisan. It’s not too long but is very impressive and also very stable with minimal movement even in wind. The souvenirs are a little expensive, but what else would you expect! Their ice cream is unpasteurised which might appeal to MAGAs… There is a good, long cable slide which goes from the other side of the walk and returns to the same place (two slides with a little climbing). There is a charge for gloves which you keep but the other equipment is free to borrow, and you can hire extra clothing from the unimpressed lady in the photo. There is a great place for children to play and also a pen where dogs can play. There is a smoking area right next to the toilets, which although keeps the smells all in one place, rather dampens the appetite when queueing for ice cream when the kiosk is located downwind! We took a day trip from Kawaguchiko by bus which took us to the station. The bus from the station to the Sky Walk goes from the south side of the station rather than the north where we were dropped off, and the bus back to Kawaguchiko goes from the south side too. We could have benefited from that info! The bus from the station takes half an hour and are every half hour. If you are a six footer, pray at a shrine for the modern bus that has room. My knees went into a coma in the older version.

(Translated by Google) I visited in December 2024. In stark contrast to the empty Kanaya Station (sorry...), this station is packed with the charm of the Oigawa Railway. Plaza Loco is located in front of the station building, and this is where you can purchase your steam locomotive ticket. The facility houses a Thomas shop and a steam locomotive exhibition, and unlike Kanaya Station, you won't have enough time to see it all. There is also the famous turntable, but it is located within the Thomas Fair venue, and a separate admission fee (400 yen for adults) is required to view it. As for me, I decided to pass on the train this time in order to photograph Thomas passing the Oigawa Railway New National Highway Crossing (the crossing of Prefectural Route 381 (Shimada Okabe Line)) at around 9:31am.

Kanaya Station serves as the starting point for the Oigawa Railway, offering passengers a scenic journey through the picturesque landscapes of Shimada and along the Oi River. The train route also passes by the Sugimoto headquarters, providing glimpses of the Sugimoto building. Travelers have praised the station staff for their friendliness and helpfulness, even using translators to assist visitors with directions.
Kanaya station is Gateway to Oigawa line. If you are going towards Ieyama or Senzu From here you have to deboard at Ieyama station because the further track is broken now. After this you have to board the bus. All the timings have been mentioned in the time table (latest as per June 2025). I have uploaded time table which we got from Kanaya Station from where we get tickets for Oigawa line. Remember to strictly follow the schedule because they are very limited in a day.

緑茶の駅! Green tea land railway station! This is also the starting point for the famous Kanaya Tea Festival held every two years in the beginning of April! Next one is due in 2018! For the railway buffs: Kanaya Station was opened on May 16, 1890, a year after when the section of the Tōkaidō Main Line connecting Shizuoka with Hamamatsu was completed. The Ōigawa Railway service began on June 10, 1927. Regularly scheduled freight service was discontinued in 1971. JR Kanaya Station has a two opposing side platforms serving Track 1 and Track 2 which are on headshunts, allowing for tracks for express trains to pass in between. The platforms are connected to the station building by an underpass. The station building has automated ticket machines, TOICA automated turnstiles and a manned “Green Window” service counter. The adjacent Ōigawa Kanaya Station has a single side platform. The platform is equipped with Selective Door Operation, as trains longer than four cars in length are too long for the platform. The station originally was built with a terminal headshunt, which is no longer in existence.

Senzu Station is a charming spot that serves as the starting point for the Oigawa tourist local train, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery. Visitors can enjoy a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine and may even catch a glimpse of Bertie the Bus along the way. The station is also home to steam engines, including Hiro, Master of the Railway.
This is the station where the Oigawa tourist local train starts on its trip up the valley. It’s also where the Thomas the Tank Steam engines live which go up and down the other part of the line. Currently the line is not running due to the recent typhoon, but some of the engines are still at the station. They use a manual train turntable for them, which is the oldest one in Japan and was sent over from Britain in 1897. The station is well appointed with toilets, vending machine, coin storage lockers, seats and a ticket window. There’s a free carpark there if you need it. Opposite the station is the tourist information centre and above it is a really awesome cafe, Folk Knot Cafe STIR

My special thanks to the bus driver and the staff at the Senzu Station who helped me when I was lost on September 22, 2025. I got on the wrong bus. Came here for Day Out with Thomas event. We rode Thomas to get there and occasionally you will spot Bertie the Bus along the ride. The scenery along the ride was breathtaking. Had a spectacular time here. The novelty of course is Hiro, Master of the Railway! There's lots of activities for kids there. We came on a Friday in November, the week of Shichi-Go-San. It was surprisingly quiet. There was almost zero wait in most attractions. The longest we waited in line was for riding Winston (45 minutes wait). In retrospect, we should have waited till Thomas depart the Senzu station back to Shin Kanaya before we ride that. That's when the crowd really dies down. Also got to see Thomas and the steam locomotive being turned at the turntable using manpower. Pretty neat. The indoor Thomas play area is not open outside of summer though. Staff were very friendly. The oden at the stall in the fair area, hmmm, I still dream of it in my sleep. The Thomas bento was mehhhh. Also in retrospect should have spent some time exploring the nearby town, but couldn't get kids to leave Thomas fair area. Would be back next time for the onsen in this area! Tip #1: to maximize your time in Senzu, take the Thomas train out and come back on the steam locomotive. That would buy you 3 hours, just about the right amount of time to spend in the little town/village. Tip #2: Thomas train tickets were hard to get. Loppi machine in Lawson did not work as expected. Had to call to reserve tickets on the phone, but they only speak Japanese. I had to get help calling them for reservation.

Shizuoka Station is a major transportation hub in Shizuoka Prefecture, offering convenient access to various attractions including the iconic Mount Fuji. The station is served by the JR Tokaido Shinkansen, with the fastest option taking just one hour from Tokyo. Visitors can explore the clean and well-maintained station with its array of shops while waiting for their trains. The functional train platforms provide glimpses of high-speed Shinkansen passing through.
The train hums through green tea country; the scent of leaves rides the wind. Shizuoka glows soft and industrious — a city content with quiet craft and mountain light. Tourist Tip: Stop here for Mt. Fuji’s southern flank and tea fields. Visit Sumpu Castle Park and Nihondaira viewpoint. Try fresh wasabi or green-tea ice cream.

Really nice and clean train station - as expected in Japan. There are plenty of shops to walk around and have a look but we were really here to take the Shinkansen. After buying the tickets, we went upstairs to the tracks. The train platforms are not very modern, but functional and complete with lots of vending machines. While we were waiting for our Shinkansen, one flew by on the middle track and it gave us all a mightly scare. It was incredible the speed these beautiful machines can get up to. While we were riding the Shinkansen, we noticed how smooth the ride was. It was so smooth you forget you are in a train, running on tracks. Just plain amazing.

This station serves as both a starting point and gathering place during special events featuring Thomas.
The kindness of the staffs here almost brought me to tears. I came here alone with my two boys, a toddler and a preschooler, to ride Thomas the Train to Day Out with Thomas at Senzu Station. Thanks to the staff, we were able to have a fantastic day despite my limited Japanese and the big fat stroller. We had a tight connection to make between Kanaya and Shin Kanaya station (where you get on Thomas) and the staff at Plaza Loco were kind enough to help me store some luggage so that I don't have to carry it with me to Senzu Station. When we got back, I almost forgot to pick up those luggage and had already boarded a train bound for Kanaya station. The station master was kind enough to make the train waited for me as I dashed back into Plaza Loco to retrieve my luggage and climb back on board. For a country where punctuality is in their DNA and trains can't even be late for a minute, I have no words to describe how touched and grateful I am for all that they did for me and my sons. We had a fantastic time and would definitely come back again! Thank you!

There was a mini steam locomotive available for a fee, as well as a free mini steam locomotive (which you can back up to), and the turntable Thomas was very popular. It seems there's parking nearby when you ride Thomas, which is convenient for families with small children. The concession stand had a wide selection of items, and the ekiben (boxed lunches) served on the train included local specialties, which was great. Limited edition Thomas merchandise was available for purchase on board, and PayPay was accepted. I got it. Ice cream is cash only. Horai-bashi Bridge, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is a remarkable wooden pedestrian bridge that spans 897 meters over the Oi River. Recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest wooden pedestrian bridge in the world, it offers stunning views of Mount Fuji and allows visitors to enjoy the river's flow and seasonal scenery while strolling across. The bridge provides a unique experience with its gentle wood underfoot and is especially captivating during winter when it offers magnificent views of Mt.
The longest wooden footbridge in the world, we paid the JPY100 fee but I think if you are not paying still no one will care. Luckily we get the view of Mount Fuji but I believe it's nearly impossible to take photos of the bridge and Mount Fuji together like those on the social media. Free parking space nearby and free toilet.

Beautiful bridge, 100 yen entry fee for adults but worth it considering the great view. Nice way to kill time and chill.

I was the only one here. But I wonder at Osaka's EXPO is that now the longest pedestrian wood bridge in the world???

We were tired and hungry as we had toured a lot on the day. However, we decided to see this Horai bridge that’s recorded in Guinness world records. It was fulfilling to finish our walk to the end. We felt like achievers when we finally completed our walk in and out of the bridge🤩 It is recommended to say a word of prayer when you get to the end of the bridge.🙏🏾

Hōrai Bridge is a long wooden bridge located in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It crosses the Ōi River and is famous for being one of the longest wooden pedestrian bridges in the world. The bridge is about 897 meters long and was built in 1879.

After the nth time of going here, finally able to crossed the bridge ❤️✨ This bridge is the 1997 Longest Wooden Walking Bridge in the world based on Guinness, and I am so happy to see and experience this in my life 🎌 Also there is a rumor that this bridge, is captured/used as a venue in an anime (not sure). Kudos, Japan on preserving this kind of structure. This is a must experience! ❤️💯

An amazing long wooden bridge. Build in 1879, 879m. Japan's largest wooden pedestrian bridge. Enjoy walking and you can also bring your bicycle. In the other side of the bridge there is souvenir shop, and other view. A friendly staff 😊

Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center is a must-visit for train enthusiasts. It showcases the future world’s fastest bullet train and features an exciting test track where visitors can witness the maglev in action, reaching speeds of up to 500 km/hr. The center offers informative exhibits on the cutting-edge technology behind this revolutionary mode of transportation, which aims to significantly reduce travel times between Kofu and Tokyo.
This is a cool museum for the new maglev trains that can goo 500 km/hour. They have some displays and a movie theatre with an 8 minute movie. The best part is you get to see the train pass by every 15 minutes or so. There are two building. The main exhibit and viewing platform are in the 2nd building but the view from the 1st building is actually nicer.

Even on a rainy day! Small entrance fee! Just be sure to check test-run schedules (not every day) Many families with small kids, lots of activities for them and a playroom for babies. Every time the train runs you’ll have an announcement to get ready at the next window. Small theater. Snacks and ice cream options. Spotless restrooms.

We had an amazing day here even with no test runs scheduled. Spent 3 hours. Staff was so friendly and a lot of interesting things to read and see - the demo of magnetic levitation was mind boggling. There is no cafe on site so eat lunch before or bring your own food.

We visited several train museums, but seeing a real 500 km/h Maglev live from the terrace is something else ! Don’t miss the scientific demonstrations of how the train works, really impressive. It’s a 10 minute taxi ride from the station in case you have a stopover on your way to Mount Fuji, but in this case make sure you ask for the taxi to wait for you (40-45 min visit).
Quentin G — Google review
A little out of the way, but the scenery of the area makes the travel there worth it. An informative place... the diorama is well done.. unfortunately then maglev not running when we went, still an enjoyable experience... (for me anyway) and the boy liked it. Is it worth another visit when the boy is older? Yeah I'd go again.

You can learn about what makes maglev work here, and if you’re lucky you can see the train do return test runs. The sense of speed is unbelievable! Tickets are only available in person and the museum may get busy during school hours.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Saruhashi Bridge is a stunning wooden structure that captivates visitors with its unique design and breathtaking views. Spanning 30.9 meters across the Katsura River gorge, this remarkable bridge stands 31 meters high and is supported by an intricate arrangement of wooden struts from both banks. Known as the 'monkey bridge,' it boasts a rich history dating back to the 7th century and showcases an architectural style inspired by folklore about monkeys forming a bridge.
A nice bridge with a very deep valley. Free parking is around 8 minutes from this place.

Beautiful place. Very scenic place and well constructed wooden bridge. If you go down the stairs, the path takes you to the museum, park and spot near the water body.
Mugdha G — Google review
It’s historically important wood bridge, Saruhashi. It’s so beautiful. With a length of 30.9m, a width of 3.3m, and a height of 31m, it is a special one that does not use piers at all, and is supported by four layers of ”Hanegi” that overhang from both banks that rise sharply.
KIICHIRO K — Google review
The Saruhashi Bridge (猿橋) is also known as the 'monkey bridge'. Spanning the gorge of the Katsura River, it is a prime example of the hanebashi design. The bridge is supported by a series of cantilever beams set in the opposing cliff faces. Built mid-18th century, the Saruhashi was along the Koshu Kaido (main highway of the Edo period). We briefly stopped to enjoy the elegant design of the bridge and the scenic beauty of the gorge filled with ginkgo and maple trees. The name 'monkey bridge' is associated with a local legend in which monkeys bridged the chasm with their bodies so that a couple could cross during the Nara period. A later story tells that the original rickety plank structure was so precarious that "only an agile monkey could cross it".

Okuōikojō Station is an unstaffed train station located on a peninsula at the edge of a dam lake. It appears to be suspended in the sky when viewed from a distance, as it sits in the middle of the Oku-oi Rainbow Bridge. Visitors can reach the station by train or by parking at the nearby lot and following signs to cross the bridge on foot. The train operates once per hour with five runs daily, so it's essential to check schedules.
One of the hidden gems of Shizuoka prefecture, Kawane-Hon town. This is the place famous for it's scenic beauty with a train station on a cliff. Highly recommended place!
Dheeraj N — Google review
Most visitors reach Okuoi-Kojo Station by train, but since I traveled with my dog, we drove to the nearby Okuoi-Koji Station Parking Lot. From the parking lot, we followed the signs and trail uphill and then descended on the other side. We crossed the Okuoi Rainbow Railway Bridge using the pedestrian walkway alongside the tracks. If you plan to access the station by train, it's important to note that the train runs only once an hour, with a total of five runs per day. Having arrived early in the morning by car, my dog and I explored the station on foot, taking our time to savor the lush, verdant forests, the breathtaking view of the lake from the bridge, and the serene movement of low-lying clouds and mountain mist. The defining characteristic of Okuoi-Kojo Station lies in its enduring simplicity. The station has remained largely unchanged for the past 33 years, offering visitors a nostalgic journey back in time, away from the glitz and glamor of Tokyo's modern train stations. Perched on a bluff behind the station, you'll find the Kojo Station Cafe (湖上駅カフェ; lit. “station-above-the-lake cafe”). This cafe offers ample seating providing weary travelers with a chance to relax and enjoy a variety of drinks and sweet snacks. For additional Google Maps links and a wealth of helpful references to enhance your understanding of this location, I encourage you to explore the Pix4Japan blog.

Sessokyō-Onsen Station, formerly known as Kawane-Nagashima Station until 1990, is a unique stop on the Ikawa Line in Shizuoka. Surrounded by trees and exuding a nostalgic charm, this station is home to the stationmaster who also manages Sessokyō Onsen and Forest Open-air Baths. The area underwent relocation due to the construction of Nagashima Dam, resulting in the station's name change.
This is one of the stations that has a station office and ticket window, though it is not always manned. There are toilets and a vending machine. Also a jaunty looking tanuki.

(Translated by Google) It is a hidden station. When I got on the train, my grandfather's station attendant opened the door manually, and when I got off, I unlocked the door myself. The retro feel is really nice. An old man working at the station helped me buy tickets, but it took about 10 minutes. If this were a city, some people would probably yell at you for being too slow, but here, perhaps because time moves so slowly, you feel relieved and feel like you could have taken more time. It's a truly unexplored station in an unexplored region, and it looks exactly like the scene you see in old black-and-white photographs. I got off at the next station, Okuoikojo Station, and the ride was short, about 7 minutes, but I enjoyed it enough even if I wasn't a train buff. Tickets will not be collected and you can take them home as a souvenir. It was a very good memory. If you are ever in the area, please give it a try. You can have the valuable experience of being able to step inside a monochrome photo. (Translated by Google) It is one of the main stations on the Oigawa Railway Igawa Line. Igawa Station is the last stop on the Igawa Line, but there are also trains that start and end here at Chisekyo Onsen Station, so as a result, there are more trains than at Igawa Station. As the name of the station suggests, this is a place where you can enjoy hot springs. There is a wonderful hot spring inn where you can take a day trip bath just 0 minutes walk from the station. It's a small bathtub that's not big at all, but it has an open-air bath and an indoor bath. The quality of the spring water is so-called beauty hot water with a slippery feel. The water is very smooth. Moreover, the temperature is different between the outdoor bath, which is lower, and the indoor bath, which is higher, so if you soak in them alternately, you will have a wonderfully comfortable bath. Shampoo and body soap provided. We apologize for the inconvenience that we offer free bathing towel rental as a bonus. You can enjoy the hot water without any worries. In addition, if you cross the red bridge that can be seen from the station platform, you will find the Setsukyo Onsen Kaikan. This place is also within walking distance from the station. A lovely, simple hot spring inn. There is only one small indoor bathtub. Although it is extremely simple, the quality of the spring water is similar to the one mentioned above, making it a beauty hot spring with a slippery feel. In addition to day trip bathing, you can also use the dining room here, so it is especially recommended for those who want to enjoy bathing and eating in one place. In any case, Sekkeikyo Onsen is wonderful, so if possible, I would like you to stop by both hot spring inns. Although it has a rustic atmosphere that has nothing to do with the fun and flashiness of famous hot spring towns, it is relatively empty and you can enjoy a relaxing bath. Please come and visit us. (Translated by Google) Visited in December 2024. It is one of the terminal stations of the Ikawa Line (the other is Ikawa Station) Although it is called a ``hot spring'', it is not as prosperous as a hot spring town like Sumatakyo Onsen, and it even gives the impression of being lonely. There is only one tourist spot called ``Yatsuhashi Komichi Love Romance Road''. As for the ``Yatsuhashi Komichi Love Romance Road'', it is quite far (about 15 minutes walk) to the first bridge, the ``Minami Alps Suspension Bridge'', and the seventh bridge (the first one was closed to the public) will give you a good workout on your tired legs on the uphill climb to the station. The only restaurant nearby was a soba restaurant, and I didn't have time to stop by if I was traveling by train. I would like the Ikawa Line to change its schedule to be more considerate of tourists who use the train... On a different note, I met the conductor I had ridden with at Senzu Station the day before, and the same person who was driving an Abt electric locomotive at Abt Ichishiro Station that day. I was reminded that it was a small route. Finally, the marks on the map are misaligned. This location is a warehouse, and the actual station building is a little further north. Even when I submitted a modification request, it was rejected easily, so I gave up. Follow the signs from the road, go up the hill a little, cross the railroad crossing, and you will arrive at the station. You can go there by car, but the road is narrow and there is no parking lot, so it's a dead end, so I think it's best to park at a parking lot a little further away and walk. I liked that it was an unmanned station in the mountains, so I could hear the sounds of nature and it had a calm atmosphere even though I didn't have to take the train. Daimon Korean Restaurant, owned by a Korean individual, may initially come across as unfriendly due to the lack of expression and blunt speech. However, upon further interaction, it becomes evident that the owner is kind and caring. The authenticity of their dishes is highly commendable, offering a taste that truly represents Korean cuisine. Two types of bibimbap were offered: signature gochujang (mellow taste) made directly at the store and Korean gochujang. The signature gochujang seems to be a consideration by the president for customers who are sensitive to spicy foods. It's moderately spicy and has a taste that everyone can enjoy. The pancake with plenty of seafood was also really delicious. It was too much for two people to eat, so Jijimi got 1/2 takeout. (Translated by Google) The Oigawa River is a first-class river that flows through Shizuoka Prefecture, with a total length of 168 km. The water source is Mt. Aino (3,189 meters above sea level) and flows into Suruga Bay. It has a long history and has had a great influence on local culture and industry. Oigawa River was an important strategic base during the Sengoku period. In particular, famous military commanders such as Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu were active in this area, and the river was considered important as a key point for water transportation and defense. During the Sengoku period, many castles and forts were built along the Oigawa River, which functioned as a line of defense for the region. During the Edo period, no bridges were built over the Oigawa River, and ferryboats were prohibited. This was done because the rapid flow of the river and the large amount of water made it technically difficult to construct a bridge, and to protect the vested interests of the people known as Kawagoe Jinto. Kawagoe Jintoshi transported travelers on shoulder carts or lotus platforms, and the fare was determined by the depth of the river. In recent years, the Oigawa River has experienced frequent droughts, which have had a major impact on local agriculture and water supplies. Causes of drought include climate change, dam construction upstream, and increased water use. Local water management agencies and municipalities are taking steps to address this, but more efforts are needed to ensure sustainable water use. Oigawa ecosystem The Oi River's ecosystem is diverse, and as it passes through a variety of environments from upstream to downstream, it is home to many plants and animals. The upper reaches are valleys where clear streams flow, and cold-water fish such as cherry salmon and char inhabit them. Wild animals such as serows and Asiatic black bears can also be seen in the mountain forests. In the midstream area, agricultural land spreads and there are rice paddies. Fish such as loaches and catfish can be seen here, and many birds such as gray herons and kingfishers also inhabit this area. The downstream area is close to the river mouth and is an area of tidal flats and wetlands. Many crustaceans such as icefish, sweetfish, crabs and shrimp can be seen, and birds such as swallows and plovers are also frequently seen. Fishing in the Oigawa River is one of the region's important industries. Fisheries such as sweetfish, amago, and eel are particularly popular. It is managed by the Oigawa Fisheries Association, and you can enjoy fishing by purchasing a recreational fishing permit. sweetfish fishing The Oigawa River is known as the ``sacred place for sweetfish,'' and fishing for sweetfish is popular. Especially in autumn, many anglers visit. Amago fishing Amago is a specialty of the Oigawa River, and the fishing season is set from spring to early summer. Eel fishing Eel is also abundant here, and many fishermen fish there, especially in winter. Fisheries cooperative efforts The Oigawa Fisheries Cooperative is implementing various initiatives to increase the sustainability of the fishing industry. Examples include stocking activities, management of fishing grounds, and education for fishermen. Oigawa River has a great influence on local life and industry even in modern times, as well as its historical background. Drought issues and ecosystem protection are important issues for future sustainable development. Communities as a whole are required to address these issues. (Translated by Google) The bridge was completed in 1923, so it will be 100 years old this year (2023). It is a registered tangible cultural property of the country and a designated civil engineering heritage site. Prefectural Route 208 Fujieda Shizuoka Line runs through it. I think it's a really beautiful railway bridge. (Original) 1923年竣工、なので今年(2023年)で百歳になる橋。 国の登録有形文化財で選奨土木遺産です。 県道208号藤枝静岡線を通しています。 実に見事な鉄橋だと思います。

(Translated by Google) I went to the Abe River Fireworks Festival. I went last year as well, but this year the place I saw last year was off-limits, so I parked my car near the prefectural office and took a shuttle bus to the venue, but I was dropped off quite in front of the bridge and had to walk quite a distance. I think 500 yen round trip is too expensive for that distance. On the way home, I had a harder time getting on the bus than I had imagined. Those who have been there will know that it is terrible. Complaint level. Everyone was complaining quite a lot.
