Mountains
Mt. Omuro, a 580-meter extinct volcano in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is known for its distinctive bowl-shaped silhouette and as a symbol of the city. The mountain hosts the traditional Yamayaki festival on the second Sunday of February to preserve its natural beauty and has become a popular springtime tradition attracting many tourists. Designated as a national natural monument, Mt.
It was beautiful even though we visited at the beginning of summer on a windy day. The chair lift costs 1,000 yen round trip, be sure to check the official website beforehand in case it’s not operating due to wind or other conditions. If you’re taking the bus, keep in mind that the last one doesn’t run late, so plan accordingly.

I came at 11 a.m. on August 15, 2025. I had to wait in line for about 1.5 hours for the chairlift, and it was incredibly hot with strong sun. Be sure to prepare for the long wait by bringing a hat, water, and a UV protection umbrella. Once you're up there, the weather is clear, and the mountain is beautiful. The walk around the mountains takes about 20 to 30 minutes
Ka C — Google review
This is a beautiful mountain(that is pretty small) where, on the top of the mountain, Mt.Fuji is clearly visible. There is a shooting range(bow and arrow) in the crater(with a lot of greenery) and a climbing chairlift from which you can reach the top of the mountain from the bottom. There is also an ice cream shop on the top of the mountain with a small seating area. I do not think it is possible to hike this mountain as it is very steep.

Today was mountain climbing day! And what better mountain to traverse than the mountain that was featured in the anime 'Your Name" Mount Omuro is a very large and fun Mountain filled with lots of great views and places to walk. A full 1 hour walk around and see as far as the sky will allow you. It was a very enjoyable hike which was started and capped with a fun ride on the Rope way. A very popular destination as when leaving, the line had tripled in size! I recommend going early just as the Mount opens to avoid the 1hr wait time some have observed before.

Mt. Omuro (大室山) is a spectacular, extinct volcano in Shizuoka with panoramic views, a crater you can walk around, and fun attractions like archery, gift shops, and tasty snacks. Chairlifts provide access to the summit—just check wind conditions before visiting! At only ¥1000 for the ride, this is one of the best-value scenic spots in Japan. (5/5) Full Review Mt. Omuro: A Volcanic Gem with Views, Value, and a Bit of Wildlife Drama Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Few attractions strike the perfect balance between value, beauty, and unique experience quite like Mt. Omuro (大室山) in the Izu Peninsula. This extinct volcano, with its near-perfect symmetry and grass-covered slopes, isn’t just a geological wonder—it's a fully packaged experience, offering unbeatable vistas, delightful snacks, and a slice of adventure with just the right dash of whimsy. Let’s start with a practical note: weather matters. We had to visit twice—on our first attempt, strong winds meant the scenic chairlifts (gondola-style lifts) were grounded. Disappointing, sure, but entirely understandable given the exposed nature of the summit. So here’s my advice: check the wind forecast, and shoot for a clear-skied day to boost your chances of spotting the elusive Mount Fuji on the horizon. When we finally made it up on day two, the experience was well worth the wait. For only ¥1000 per person, the chairlift glides you gently to the top, revealing sweeping views of Ito City, the Pacific Ocean, and rolling hills in every direction. The crater itself is walkable—a 360-degree rim trail that's flat, easy, and endlessly photogenic. And inside the bowl-like crater? A surprising twist: an archery range. Yes, you can channel your inner samurai while literally standing in a volcano. At the base of Mt. Omuro, there’s even a zoo (Izu Shaboten Zoo) and additional attractions to round out your day trip. But the summit is where the real magic happens. I was pleasantly surprised by the gift shops and cafes, which didn’t fall into the usual overpriced tourist trap formula. In fact, Mt. Omuro was running a Yuru Camp collaboration while we were there—a brilliant marketing crossover that gets bonus points in my book. As for the food, it was shockingly good for a mountaintop rest stop. Highlights included: Hokkaido milk ice cream: ultra-creamy, with a beautifully crisp cone. Miso-dipped mochi dango: savory, warm, and satisfyingly chewy. Fluffy meat bun: solid comfort food. Yakisoba: a classic Japanese staple, well-executed. Churrito (mini churro): sweet, crunchy, and worth every yen—until a hawk tried to steal it. Yes, you read that right. A hawk or falcon, clearly a local of the area, launched a bold attempt to snatch my snack. I managed to defend my churrito (barely), but another guest nearby wasn’t as lucky. While the bird doesn’t seem to pose any direct threat to people, it’s laser-focused on open food. It's a minor inconvenience that honestly added a bit of National Geographic excitement to the day. Nature finds a way… to swipe your sweets. In conclusion, Mt. Omuro is a hidden treasure—a destination that blends nature, culture, and lighthearted fun into an affordable, worthwhile visit. Between the panoramic views, quirky attractions, and delicious eats, this is an experience I would happily recommend to tourists and locals alike. Just watch your snacks.

Summer day where Mt Fuji is also visible on Mt. Omuro summit 19/7/2025. Rice Cake with either matcha or red bean paste is a must try (350 yen each)

The view from the top is simply amazing. Went in February, still winter and it was absolutely freezing! But worth the views and the walk. You can see Mt Fuji from the top, but unfortunately she was hidden by thick clouds on the day that I went. The only way to get up there is by chair lift. There's a direct bus from Ito Station.

Park
Izu Shaboten Zoo is a unique combination of botanical garden and zoo, featuring 1,500 different types of cactus and succulent plants from around the world. Visitors can learn about cactus cultivation and even take part in a cactus caring course. The zoo area is home to approximately 140 species of animals, including spider monkeys, parrots, and capybaras that roam freely and can be fed and petted by visitors.
Great zoo size that we covered in about 4 hours with a 4 and 6 year old. Nice cactus greenhouses with an impressive collection of 100+ year old specimens. Animal enclosures didn't many intrusive barriers which allowed us to get nice and close. There were plenty of food stations to buy feed for practically all the animals too. This type of experience would be really expensive back in Australia. General admission was also reasonable too. Definitely recommended for a family outing if you're in the area 👌
Simon B — Google review
Mixed feelings. Let the bigger animals have a bigger home‼️The park itself was better than expected, whole park took 2-3 hours. The staff was friendly & the small animals look reasonably well kept. I would give it 5 stars for the smaller animals but for the larger animals it was depressing!!There was a bear/cat animal that was in one of the indoors enclosure and it was 5 steps for the entire home. Totally messed up. Some of the apes looked depressed. It rained but they provided umbrellas at the entrance & it was totally fine in the rain. I hope more people can speak out about the small enclosures.

I visited Izu Shaboten Zoo by bike on Friday, and it was lively with many tourists and local schoolchildren. In the nocturnal animals’ area, I saw bats for the first time in my life, which was a memorable experience. The zoo has a spacious layout where animals move around freely, and of course the capybaras were a highlight. The best part was the cactus-picking activity, where you choose your own cactus and pot to create a unique arrangement to take home. Although the entrance fee felt a bit high, the experience and atmosphere made it worth it.

If you’ve just ridden the Mt. Omuro cable car (the tram that takes you to the top of the grassy volcano), turn around and walk literally across the road — that’s where you’ll find Izu Shaboten Zoo. It’s the perfect laid-back half-day activity after the view from the summit. This isn’t one of those massive, exhausting zoos. It’s compact, shady, and genuinely cozy. On the weekday I visited, it felt almost private — hardly any crowds, just the sound of gravel underfoot and the occasional peacock screech. Of course, the undisputed stars are the capybaras. They have a huge outdoor area with a hot-spring bath (yes, the capybaras actually soak in an onsen in winter — adorable doesn’t even begin to cover it). Even in summer they’re ridiculously chill, lounging in the water or munching grass while visitors watch in quiet awe. Other highlights: • Free-roaming peacocks that follow you around like they own the place (one decided to walk with me for a solid ten minutes — best escort ever). • A fantastic walk-through bird zone where flamingos, sacred ibis, ducks, geese, and spoonbills wander right past your feet. No cages, just a big netted area — you really feel like you’ve stepped into their world. • Classic zoo lineup done well: cheeky otters, wallabies, antelopes, donkeys, turkeys, parrots, even a few lazy sloths hanging in the greenhouse section. My only tiny disappointment was that the shoebill wasn’t on display the day I went (apparently he sometimes takes “days off” inside). Next time! Everything feels lovingly maintained, the paths are easy, there are plenty of benches in the shade, and the whole vibe is relaxed and happy. Combine it with the cable car and the cactus greenhouse (the “shaboten” part of the name) next door, and you’ve got yourself a perfect easygoing afternoon on the Izu Plateau.

Mixed feelings about this zoo. Coming from Canada where most Zoo's have way more space than this, some of the enclosures felt pretty sad. We were originally going to go to the top of Mount Omoro but it was closed due to weather so we went to the zoo instead. Half of the zoo enclosures were absolutely tiny, and others were fairly large. For example the one with the penguins looked very small and dirty, and same with most of the indoor ones. The gorilla exhibit was also very sad and small. You could see some of the animals pacing around very fast in the small enclosures which is a sign of stress. The owls were also chained to the ground which felt very sad to see, at first I thought they were statues. You could also feed most animals, sometimes through tubes and you could see the animals just essentially begging for the food, although they looked well fed for the most part. Some cleaning and larger enclosures would make this way nicer. However we did absolutely love the capybara parts and being able to feed them. They are so funny! The bird exhibit was also quite cool.
Mitchell A — Google review
Very special place, lots of animals to see. Cool interactive feeding opportunities. Capybara and Giraffe feeding was super cool. Be careful though Giraffe bit my hand - my mistake though haha
Shane M — Google review
Good experience there. We bought our tickets on klook before we go. They are famous because of the cactus and their capibara(u can take close up picture with them). Tried their cactus ice cream too. There's quite few of activities u can do too
Tien H — Google review
One of the best zoos! You can see the animals up close and it’s so rare to have the chance to feed so many animals. You can buy the food around the park that correspond to the different animals. The new giraffe enclosure is amazing, you can see the giraffes from their height! But the capybaras are always the highlight, no matter how many times we visit ! Try a capybara burger in the restaurant!

Nice waterfall right next to a parking lot. You need to walk a little bit and there are a bunch of steps to take. At the bottom of the falls theres a Wasabi farm which is cool to see. You can also rent angling gear and try to catch some fish.
Matthijs — Google review
One of the most beautiful waterfall sites anywhere on the world. Surrounded by wasabi fields. Plenty of of parking space. Short hike. Interesting shops selling wasabi and rainbow trouts. Very accessible for those travelling with kids. Not packed with people so you can still get a serene atmosphere at the waterfall. Great drive to the location is a plus
Rizal P — Google review
Wow this place is a total GEM and must visit. Not only for the waterfall but to see how Wasabi is made! Try the wasabi ice cream at the end (glad I tried but wouldn't again). This place was a highlight for me fromt he view and all. Go and visit!
Min P — Google review
Beautiful, but too touristy. Can't access the river unless you pay for fishing, which is disappointing. Would have been amazing to sit down on a rock and dip feet in the stream. For those who excuse fencing off the falls by claiming protection of environment from tourists - there are hundreds more waterfalls all over Japan that are open but just as clean, so no made up excuses are necessary.

Go to Izu_Hanto but not stopping by Joren Falls then it is not completely yet. Story of famous Izu dancers by Kawabata, it is here, this location is within the story, the young student with a young girl encounter through out their trips. Parking is large free, right by the way down to Jorell falls is status of the beautiful two famous innocent, light hearts romance standing. The water falls down by 200 more steps but in well maintained and well cared for every one. Down to the falls you will feel the strong of water running and clean air fresh air. Small shop for wasabi, ice cream and sign up if you want to go fishing there. It is one of the main stops in Izu peninsula if you are interested in the beautiful izu Hanto. Going up after visiting the falls then coffee shop Idoriko's coffee shop. Name from the old train used to run at this side. Gifts shops is also carrying many products, fresh wasabi 's available to purchase if you like. This place is good stop and easy to all. We loved to be here. Thank you
Y. Y — Google review
The photos don't do it justice, it was more spectacular than I thought, especially in the rain. The surprising bonus was the small wasabi farm also in the gorge, so you can see the waterfall and get your wasabi hit (including buying fresh wasabi) in the same place. There are about 200 steps and no wheelchair accessibility. No toilets in the gorge either.
Douglas A — Google review
Nice, cold, easy to reach. Try the wasabi cashews sold down at the waterfall!

In addition to this, the area boasts various attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage site Nirayama Reverbatory Furnaces, Mishima Skywalk - Japan's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, and the beautiful Kawazuzakura cherry trees.
Great experience. We went around 3pm and it wasn't crowded at all. We had the cable car to ourselves and get to enjoy the amazing view. The view of Mt Fuji at the top was amazing. There's few restaurants at the top which you can sit and enjoy the view. Comes with a small garden for you to walk along and a free foot spa with an amazing view! Parking was free. The shop sells a lot of cute souvenirs and Japan snacks!

I took the guests on a gondola ride and we walked around the summit area. Although I personally wished I could have relaxed at the terrace café while enjoying the mountain view, the guests took their time and seemed to enjoy themselves. They appeared very pleased with the spectacular view.
ITokyoTravel-iTokyoDrive T — Google review
The view at the top is breathtaking!! The tranquility and beauty of Mt.Fuji gave me the chills because it is purely beautiful to see and admire. You can choose to hike up the mountain. Because we're travelling with two kids under 4yo -- we opt for the cable car. It is clean, roomy, and very well maintained. Not scary at all~ There are many facilities at the top. There are cafes, some eateries, souvenir shops, a small shrine area, kids playground, a food onsen and plenty photo spots with Mt Fuji as backdrop. My kids went straight to the kids area first (of coz) - climbing ropes, flying foxes, slides, etc. There isn't any soft paddings on the ground.....most are dirt and rocks....so would suggest supervising the younger kids when they are playing. Go make time and get a drink or small snack at the cafe, so that you can enjoy the seating they have near the infinity "pool". There are massive day bed sofas available outside too....which i believe you can rent hourly. The food are delicious and reasonably priced!! Definitely worth visiting when in the area :D Visited back in Oct 2022.

The Izu Panorama Park Ropeway Station is the starting point of a scenic 1.8-kilometer ropeway ride up Mt. Katsuragi in Izunokuni, Shizuoka. The base station itself is well-equipped with a souvenir shop and an Italian restaurant, making it a pleasant stop even before you board the gondola. Each ropeway cabin is spacious, fitting up to six adults comfortably. The 7-minute journey offers breathtaking views of the Izu Peninsula, Suruga Bay, and even Mt. Fuji on clear days. The ride is smooth, relaxing, and perfect for travelers of all ages. At the summit, you’ll arrive at the Ao Terrace, a modern observation deck with cafes, walking trails, and footbaths. It’s a beautifully designed area where visitors can enjoy refreshments while soaking in the panoramic landscape. The ropeway operates year-round, with round-trip fares at ¥2,500 for adults and ¥1,400 for children. The station is wheelchair accessible, and there’s free parking for visitors. The station is also easily reachable by bus from Izu-Nagaoka Station. Whether you’re here for a quick visit or a full day of exploring, the ropeway station sets the tone for a relaxing, scenic experience that highlights the natural beauty of the region.

Very nice here. The ropeway ride is thrilling, especially with steep climbs. On cloudy days like mine, Mt. Fuji might be hidden, but the view is still stunning. The footbath is relaxing (bring your own towel or buy one). Plenty of snacks around—the black beef curry with wasabi is incredible and highly recommended. You can stroll the whole area in under an hour, including a small quiet shrine. Not too crowded. Definitely worth visiting.

An expensive entry fee, but a well maintained boardwalk, and beautiful views of the area.. we were lucky to see Mt Fuji the day we went.

Perfect tourist trap around here becuase you get a wondering view of Mt. Fuji and Shizouka oceans and mountains. One round trip is ¥3500 and it is worth it, there is actually a lot of stuff you can do up there. Cafe and snacks are yummy and the Matcha ice cream is the bomb. The glass noodles are awesome becuase you get to cut it yourself. The Dango is also something to try! There is a nice foot bath for your feet! Please do it and there is towels to use for a small donation. A shrine for a quick prayer. The picture spot at the top of the area. Then they just extended the walk area for more views! Beautiful~ Highly recommended! The gift shop is also awesome as well. Lots of wonderful products and not just weird stuff everything is good quality gifts and snakcs.

Izu Panorama Park truly stands out as one of the best places to view Mount Fuji. My visit was in winter, under a cloudless blue sky, which made the experience even more spectacular. From the mountain top, you get an unparalleled view of the majestic Mount Fuji, but that's not all. The panorama includes Suruga Bay, the rolling hills of the Izu Peninsula, sprawling farmlands, quaint houses, and winding roads, all coming together to paint a breathtaking picture. The clarity of the day was ideal for photography, with Fuji-san standing out against the horizon. However, be prepared for the wind, as it was quite strong during my visit, which is something to consider if you're planning to spend a lot of time soaking in the views. Despite the chilly gusts, the beauty of the landscape made it all worthwhile. The park itself is well-maintained, offering various vantage points to capture the perfect shot or simply to enjoy the natural beauty. Overall, if you're in the area, Izu Panorama Park is a must-visit for anyone looking to see one of Japan's most iconic sights from a unique and beautiful perspective. Just remember to bring a jacket to fend off the wind! Scenery Rating:5.0 Ease of arrival score:4.0

Lover’s Cape, also known as Koibito Misaki, is a romantic spot in Japan that overlooks the Sea of Japan. It's a popular destination for couples who come to enjoy the breathtaking views and make wishes at the heart-shaped shrine. The cape features a wooden walkway leading to a clifftop observation deck with sculptures, offering stunning views of Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji on clear days.
Views at the tip of the cape are extremely beautiful but be prepared to walk up and down slopes and climb stairs to the observation deck. Overall perfect place to soak into the seaside view! Unfortunately, I was not able to see a clear of mt Fuji again.

Absolutely phenomenal view of mount fuji via the sea, and views of the coast all around you. However, check the weather as its not a good idea to come when its cloudy or rainy due to limited visibility. Be prepared to walk 10 minutes on quite steep concrete. Nice walk however.

It was the perfect destination to take a couple. Although the place is called “Lover’s Cape,” it’s a wonderful spot for anyone to enjoy. A short 10-minute walk through lush greenery from the parking area leads to a high vantage point overlooking the sea. The area is rich in nature, with the constant song of bush warblers, and the ocean was beautiful.

It’s much more than the description on the website, before I came here, I thought the things I can do there are ringing the bell and drinking a cup of coffee. The truth is there is a big garden and a small mountain, you can enjoy the natural views and do some exercise by climbing the mountain. Moreover, the cats there are actually very cute and popular, many souvenirs are based on them! Kawaii

The 'Bamboo Forest Path' in Shuzenji Onsen town is a picturesque 300-meter-long walkway that meanders through a serene bamboo grove, often referred to as 'Izu's Little Kyoto.' This charming pathway offers traditional Japanese elegance and tranquility, with a round bamboo bench at its center where visitors can relax amidst the soothing rustling of the bamboo.
The Bamboo Forest Path in Shuzenji at night is stunning. The illuminated bamboo creates a magical and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for an evening stroll. A must-visit for anyone in the area!

Shunzenji onsen is a beautiful Onsen town. Quiet and charming. However the bamboo forest is overrated. Probably more beautiful and night or in autumn.

Very cute albeit short bamboo path along the river in Shuzenji. Come back at night for the illuminations!
Sarah H — Google review
This bamboo "path" is exactly that, a short, beautiful man-made path about 150 feet long....and that's it. Don't expect a forest, don't even expect to break sweat stolling through this "path" but it is pretty and a good photo op. The tourist attractions in the immediate area are worth exploring as well.

This enchanting bamboo grove in Shuzenji carries centuries of history under its towering green canopy. Originally planted during the Edo period to supply material for local crafts, the path once served as a quiet retreat for samurai and monks from nearby temples. Today, it remains one of Izu's most atmospheric walks. The Experience: • Sunlight filtering through rustling bamboo creates ever-changing patterns • The wooden boardwalk preserves the natural terrain while providing easy access • Morning visits offer near-solitude and magical mist effects • Evening illuminations (seasonal) transform it into an otherworldly realm More than just pretty scenery, this forest represents Izu's artisanal heritage - nearby shops still sell bamboo goods made using traditional techniques. The gentle uphill path leads to Shuzenji Temple, completing a perfect cultural-nature combo. Rating: 4.7/5 - Kyoto's Arashiyama has nothing on this intimate, crowd-free alternative. Tip: The small shrine halfway along the path is perfect for quiet reflection. Visit after rainfall for intensified green hues and earthy petrichor scents. Historical Note: Local legend says the grove was expanded in the 1800s to shelter secret meetings between loyalists during turbulent political times. Perfect for: • Meditative walks • Photography at golden hour • Combining with temple visits • Experiencing traditional Japanese landscape aesthetics

I came here when it’s almost the sunset , therefore, I can only tell you my feelings of the path, I have to say with the lights, it looks so beautiful and peaceful! But most stores have closed before I arrived, so I can’t give any comments about the food or other details. By the way, there are many parking lots around the location, if you were driving to this place, you can easily find a parking lots.

Sweet walk along the river, bamboo and bridges add for a nice photo opportunity.

I absolutely loved this place. We were staying nearby at Hostel knot. We walked here at night and enjoyed this beautiful light up spot. It is small but I think it is charming. Nearby bridges make it an adventure to get to. You should totally go at night but daytime is also beautiful. Don’t forget to look up!

Parks
Nestled between the scenic routes of Shuzenji Onsen and Heda, Shuzenji Niji-no-Sato is a delightful flower-themed park that offers an enchanting blend of nature and nostalgia. Visitors can hop aboard vintage-style coaches pulled by charming miniature steam engines, making for a whimsical ride through the lush landscape. The park is particularly stunning in autumn when the foliage transforms into vibrant shades of gold and copper, beautifully illuminated at night for a magical experience.
Mysterious, shabby, atmospheric theme park filled with exciting buildings and gardens. It feels like it has seen better days, which gives it much of its charm, but there’s so much to see, including a toy museum, kaleidoscope museum, Canadian village, English village, magical gardens that are well planted and maintained, great vernacular/ traditional buildings, paper making workshop, mask Museum…. Highly recommend.

Very helpful that you can bring your cats and dogs with you and the establishment is quite big there are so many places where you could walk to and spend time and you could and also should bring your own food and spend here the whole day. We didn't even manage to see half of it. And then if there are no clouds you will be able to have wonderful views of Mount Fuji however even on a fully sunny day Mount Fuji will still find a bunch of clouds just around itself so that you can see it. If it is important to you make sure to check on the website for the Fuji visibility since it is quite accurate. They serve food but would not recommend Canada village because they didn't put the effort to join the travel coupon Grant and you cannot use your coupons there only at English village Costa coffee. Speaking of that the lady from the British double decker bus Costa coffee was so friendly and nice and understanding and helpful we liked her a lot and also the fact that we could use our travel points there and her pasta being half of expensive as the one in Canada village. There is also a Rose garden with standard basic Rose types, beautiful Japanese garden with pond and traditional arched bridge and there's a road to this park the rooms where Soseki a famous Japanese novelist used to stay and write his books and have a memorial of it where you can get inside and see how it was long ago. For every season they have the seasonal flowers blooming hydrangea wisteria Iris cherry blossom and the red Autumn leaves. In Winter they organize very extensive illuminations scattered in the park but they charge quite much for that entrance ticket and you cannot stay with your daytime ticket you have to get out and buy a new one which is very not practical crazy expensive. It's a small train riding around the park however you have to pay extra for that one too. Toilets are for free though 😂. They have thatched roof old type of buildings and American-Indian village and if Lucky Mount Fuji can be photographed in many places they have installations for your selfie taking operation and even have poles where you could insert your phone and use a self timer to take your selfies.

Speaking of the tourist destination of Shuzenji in Izu, it was "Niji no Sato". I was looking forward to paying the entrance fee and entering the park. The parking lot was also charged. There were very few customers. Are there few flowers blooming in June? The park is very large, but there are very few attractions. If you look forward to seeing the beautiful flowers, you will be disappointed. I simply go to enjoy nature, so if you have one, it would be a good place to take a walk. Several shops were closed, probably because there were few customers. That's too bad.

A very well designed and built UK theme park. I think it’s actually very well done. It may be a little old but I think it is still very aesthetically pleasing. It can be a little creepy because there are very few people around (maybe because of COVID-19). But I am sure when it is during its peak period, it could be more fun. This park is MASSIVE and you should allocated minimally 2-3 hours if you really want to explore the whole park. There is even a view point to see Mt Fuji. There are a lot of food stalls all over the park so you don’t have to worry about being hungry or thirsty. I would definitely go back again if I were to be at this area.

I really enjoyed my trip here. We went there the morning after a big typhoon and so there weren’t many people. If you don’t like bugs or being in nature I don’t recommend it. We started the day on the train and went to the Canadian village where we enjoyed the kaleidoscope museum and learning about their sister city. Next, we walked through the fairy and Japanese garden to go up to the craft village. We had so much fun making a name plate and wine holder. The lady there was so kind and encouraging. Unforgettable experience. It could be expensive, my name plate was around 2000 yen, but if you pick a smaller plate and do just your name I think you could make it for only around 1000 yen. The views were very nice from the village and I fell into the koi pond at the Japanese garden lol. We had so much fun at a restaurant in the Izu village! The British village definitely seemed the most worn out but I think it was fun. Price wise I guess it could be expensive for a place that not even everything is open and stuff. I didn’t think the walk around was that long at all as there were various things to see and do along the way. Walk through the garden to get from one side to another and not on the road. I think that many places need improvement and we’re not the cleanest but it is an old place. If you just namedrop a nearby ryokan like arai they will give you a 400 yen discount lol. For 800 yen I definitely think it was worth it but you have to consider; do you like walking around in nature? Do you mind older facilities? Do you mind dropping money on various things here and there? If you prepare your mind accordingly I think you can have a great time.

Go to see. shuzenji Garden Nishino Sato, a simulated theme park. English village Including the Nada village, a German village And there is also a museum Ancient steam trains and The museum of ancient children's toys as well. Including the back, walking down the stairs from him there is still a Japanese-style garden. There is a shady atmosphere, full of beautiful trees and a pond for ducks and carp. There are restaurants, cafes, shops in the same area. It is a very wide area because it is in the valley so you have to walk a long distance. But here there is a service to sit. The old steam train provided To go down to various points as well, including a vintage British car to sit with.

Nestled in the scenic Izu Peninsula, the Toi Gold Mine is a fascinating glimpse into Japan's rich mining history. This centuries-old site once thrived during the Edo and Meiji periods, producing over 40 tonnes of gold and an impressive amount of silver. Visitors can explore its extensive network of tunnels, which stretches approximately 100 km, and experience a unique panning activity for gold.
Last minute stop because I saw the road sign of it. It was not bad at all. Feel like it's more for children but you can enjoy a quick tour as an adult. The path into the mine is way longer than what I was expecting. So it was a good surprise
Asa M — Google review
The museum exhibit and the walk through the tunnel was average. Nothing impressive. We however had fun experiencing the gold panning.
Andy G — Google review
Interesting tour in the gold mine with explanations in English and a small museum at the end. About 30 min. There’s also gold panning additional activity.
Zohar E — Google review
A great place to take your children to explore historical gold mines and the history behind it. The mine itself has a really low ceiling so need to be real cautious. There is also an area to experience panning; also a great experience for kids as it’s almost guaranteed you can find some placer gold (it’s artificial). Adult tickets are about 1900 yen for the whole pack experience. Huge parking lot.
Poyopoyo — Google review
Such a cool experience. The majority of the experience is in an air conditioned mine where animatronic robots illustrate the rigors of daily mining life. There is a small museum indoors attached to a gift shop where the record breaking gold bar resides. There is also an indoor gold panning area where you can buy tickets for a timed panning session. People will find little flecks of gold as a nice souvenir.
Mar M — Google review
Interesting history. The mineral mines in this area really made this place prosperous. It was fun learning about the mine and panning for gold. The garden was also very beautiful and picturesque. They have gold foil ice cream. There’s no taste to the gold but the ice cream was delicious. Good place to stop if you’re in the area. Their restaurant is open from 11:00-15:00 with last order at 14:30. There are food trucks in the parking lot.
Danielle M — Google review
Creatively illustrated process of gold mining procedures that was carried out in the past here. Apart from the tunnel visit, you also get to experience the process of filtering gold from the ore. It's sort of a back bending activity, however worth trying.
Sridhar K — Google review
Interesting place to visit, one can understand the gold mining history of Japan from here. The tunnels created for gold mining is kept and maintained for the visitors to walk around and see. Through out the tunnel models are displayed explaining the life of miners. There is a nice museum near, highlights are 12kg and 250kg gold. Visitors can touch and lift it(if you are strong enough). Another attraction is the gold panning, at an extra cost we can try out luck in gold panning at the area provided near the gift shop. One can get some interesting Omiyage from the gift shop here. Overall a good experience worth the time for kids and adults.

Mount Amagi, located in Izu, Japan, is a stunning mountain peak offering a variety of hiking trails and breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji. It is the highest vantage point in the area and consists of several peaks including Mt. Banjiro and Mt. Banzaburo. Visitors can also explore the beautiful Joren-no-Taki waterfall, wasabi fields, trout fishing spots, and relax at the Shuzenji Onsen.
(Translated by Google) I climbed Mt. Amagi, one of the 100 famous mountains, a stoic mountain with few rewards such as scenery. The free parking lot also has toilets and facilities to wash your hiking shoes. The Amagi Rhododendron Course took about 6 and a half hours, but the path was quite difficult to understand, especially between the Karasawa Junction and Yotsutsuji, and I got nervous after climbing up some strange scree for about 30 minutes. There were a lot of warning signs posted in the parking lot, indicating that there were people who were lost, but I ended up getting lost due to my carelessness. Fortunately, I had a map on my phone, so I was able to notice it right away, but I recommend being fully prepared for the climb. It was great to be able to see Mt. Fuji from the horse's back. (Translated by Google) Mt. Amagi (Amagisan) is the collective name for the mountain range also known as Mt. Manjiro and Mt. Manzaburo (highest peak 1406m), and is the highest peak on the Izu Peninsula. There is a folk tale and legend about three Tengu brothers in the Izu region, and there is a theory that the names of these three brothers were borrowed from them. Incidentally, the eldest son is named after Mount Daruma, a mountain in Toda, Numazu City (although unlike the two brothers mentioned above, it is not a proper noun, but a common noun). There are also various theories about the origin of the mountain's name, including one that says it comes from the fact that it is one of the rainiest mountain ranges in Japan, and that it was named "Amagi" because the mountain is covered with trees so thick that it covers the sky.

It was very nice weather, but the yellow sand made it a little lush, but I think it was an interesting hike. The view wasn't great from the summit, but the contrast between the mountains and the sea along the way was amazing. However, there were places where the ladders and footholds were crumbling and it was difficult to walk (the steps were high), so be careful. Itō Orange Beach is a serene coastal stretch located just a short 3-minute walk from Itō Station. During the summer, it offers an array of activities such as jet-skiing and sunbathing, attracting both thrill-seekers and locals seeking relaxation. As the crowds disperse in the off-peak seasons, the beach becomes a tranquil retreat with open sands for contemplative walks.
Nice and quiet place. Good to enjoy with kids with cheaper paid parking space.

Orange Beach was a terrific sandy beach ⛱ I live the palm trees. 🌴🌴There weren't many people when I visited in early April even though it was a hot sunshiny🌞 day. Easy access from the Ito train station 🚉

Just before the beginning of the official summer season (mid July to End of August) there are no amenities, but there are also no crowds. The sand is almost black but very soft, almost like sands in Hawaii. Not gravely at all. The water is crystal clear as well and no waves as it is enclosed in a bay. It is also quite warm and not cold. Only 4 stars as you can find pieces of glass periodically that have not worn down and small pieces of pottery with sharp edges in the sand. Maybe with the clean up before the summer season this is taken care of. Also a McDonalds nearby (10 min walk in the direction of marine town) if that is of interest to you

Ito Orange Beach is the best beach we visited in Izu! At high tide it is deep enough to dive under the water, but it’s very calm thanks to the breakwater. The sand is soft and black, though if your feet are sensitive to small pebbles you may want to bring water shoes. If you want to see fish, I recommend coming in the morning and at high tide if possible. I met many kinds of colourful and curious fish near the breakwater, including a small school of cute squid! I did not see any jellyfish. There are free showers that are well-designed, all functioning as a full shower or as a footwash, and draining sand through a grate onto the beach below. There are toilets and trash cans as well. There are restaurants on the beach with seating, though you can also buy food at the nearby Food Shop Aoki. For a fee, you can rent floaties, access the floating slides, or try a banana boat. There is not much shade, however.

(Translated by Google) [Report before the beach opens on Saturday, June 28, 2025] - Location of the free showers Free showers are installed outside the building of the "public toilets" between Atagawakan and Hotel Setas Royal. There are two in total, one on the men's side and one on the women's side. The beach is about 300m long, so no matter where you sit, the distance to the showers is close and there is no problem. - About the parking lot at the beach The guide at the T-junction of Hotel Setas Royal states "Public parking lot 260m", but as far as I walked around the area, there was no place clearly marked as "public parking lot", so I was not sure. Does it refer to the area near the "Takaiso public toilet" at the northernmost part of the beach and the parking space along the coast south of the Atagawa coastal embankment? The other parking spaces along the beach have colored contact lenses with the hotel name in front of them, so it seemed like general cars could not be parked. It seems that there will be a shortage of parking spaces when the beach opens. - Distance from the station and surrounding hotels About a 5-minute walk from Izu Atagawa Station. The way there is easy as it is downhill, but the way back is a steep uphill climb and a bit tough if you have heavy luggage. I walked from the beach to the only convenience store in Atagawa, Family Mart along National Route 135 (the route goes from Atagawa Ocean Resort to Banana Crocodile Park without using stairs) for about 15 minutes, but I was sweating even with empty hands. It is possible to walk to hotels along the national route (Atagawa Prince or Itoen, etc.), but it is difficult to walk back after playing in the sea. ・About the foot bath (Atagawa Hot Park) It is located along the river in front of Hotel Shinayoshi. There is a foot washing area, and there is a notice to wash off the sand before entering. There is no shade, so I guess almost no one enters in the summer. I think it is useful when you want to wash your feet when returning to the hotel from the beach. There's not much trash on the beach, maybe because it's beach opening day. The good thing about this place is that there aren't many people, but there are many lifeguards, so it feels very safe. There are also free showers and toilets. There is only one beach hut, and no changing rooms or lockers. There was also one shop that felt more like a food stall. The menu isn't very extensive. They do have rental life jackets for around 1,000 yen. It cost 300 yen to inflate the life jackets. Rather than having a lively party, I think it's best to just bring a lunch bucket and a picnic blanket and relax.

(Translated by Google) There are few sandy beaches in East Izu, with Ito, Kawana, Atagawa, and Imaihama being the only ones. Others are more famous, and this is a hidden gem, as it was originally an artificial beach made of gravel. The water is cleaner than Ito or Kawana. It's within walking distance from the station, and there's a parking lot along the beach. In season, there are parking spaces for hotel guests, beach huts, and headquarters, so there are fewer spaces, but you can still park for free. The toilets are clean, and it's nice that there's another shower (with cold water) on either side. Facing the sea, there's also a footbath at the back left, so use it if you get cold. Nestled in the heart of Izu, Lake Ippeki is a serene and picturesque destination that beckons nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The lake is surrounded by a scenic forest path perfect for leisurely strolls or delightful picnics with family and friends. Beyond its tranquil waters, visitors can explore an array of fascinating museums nearby, including the Izu Lake Ippeki Museum showcasing exquisite art pieces, as well as unique collections like antique perfume bottles and Victorian jewelry.
Outstanding walk in late autumn. Overcast day is best to enjoy the colours. Rin Rin highly recommends

Lake Ippeki (一碧湖) is a calm and scenic spot best suited for locals or slow-paced travelers with time to spare. While peaceful and photogenic in its own right, it lacks standout features to justify a detour for most tourists. (2/5) Full Review Lake Ippeki: A Quiet Pause, But Not a Destination Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Not every attraction in Japan needs to dazzle or overwhelm. Some, like Lake Ippeki (一碧湖), offer a softer appeal—a whisper rather than a shout. Tucked away in the Izu Peninsula, this lake exudes a quiet serenity that locals no doubt treasure. For travelers who enjoy wandering through lesser-known corners of Japan, this location might serve as a pleasant interlude. But for most tourists, especially those navigating a tight itinerary, this may not be a worthwhile stop. There are a few charming touches: the ability to take a small boat onto the lake to reach a tiny island, for instance, does offer a touch of novelty. The forest trail that rings the lake provides a shaded, tranquil setting for a contemplative walk or picnic. In the right season—perhaps a crisp autumn afternoon or early spring morning—it could very well feel like a peaceful escape from the crowds. But the key word here is could. For the average tourist, especially those looking to maximize their time and experience, Lake Ippeki simply doesn’t stand out. The views, while pretty, lack the grandeur of more dramatic lake destinations like Kawaguchiko or Ashi. The facilities are minimal, the signage isn’t particularly tourist-friendly, and unless you’re armed with a car and a leisurely attitude, getting here can feel more like a detour than a discovery. That said, I don’t mean to diminish its worth entirely. For residents of the Izu area or frequent travelers to Japan looking for something quiet, off the beaten path, this could be a delightful spot to recharge. Sometimes, a place doesn’t need to be thrilling—it just needs to be still. Lake Ippeki offers stillness in spades. But for those weighing opportunity costs—the time, transport, effort—it’s difficult to recommend this site above other regional highlights. It’s a place that asks for time, and gives you calm in return. If that’s your travel style, you might find value here. Otherwise, I’d suggest allocating your hours elsewhere. Verdict: Lake Ippeki is a local gem, not a tourist must-see. Peaceful and lightly photogenic, it works well for those with time to spare—but may leave others wondering what else they could’ve done instead.

Beautiful lake surrounded by forests. Pleasnatly quiet and great for a stroll. There's a small parking spot nearby, however you can also drop off at a nearby local bus stop. You can also rent a small paddle boat.

A small crater lake, 6km south of Ito city. The circumference is only 4 km, but this is the largest lake in Izu Peninsula where there are very few lakes and ponds. There are twelve islands, and the beautiful scene reflecting the Amagi Mountains on the lake is known as the ”the eye of Izu”. There are 250 cherry trees planted along the lake, with campsites. The lake is stocked with carp, black bass and bluegill, and is popular for fishers as well as people riding boats.

Old Amagi Tunnel North Side is a popular spot known for its connection to the novel Dancer of Izu. Visitors are drawn to the small light at the end of the dark tunnel, creating an irresistible allure. The road leading to the tunnel from the north is in poor condition, but still accessible by car. Despite rough terrain and potential bear disturbances, many hikers frequent this area on weekends.
So cool! But be aware the road is bumpy to get out there.

One of the coolest places. Feels like a real lost place. You'll walk up a street that has a little incline for quite some time and end up in front of the old tunnel. The tunnel itself has light inside but there's nobody around and, as far as I could see, no cars pass through it. Quite a spooky experience.

The Mount Omuro Climbing Chairlifts offer a scenic and convenient way to reach the 580-meter-high summit of an extinct volcano in just six minutes. From the top, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Izu Oshima, the Seven Islands of Izu, Mt. Fuji, Hakone, the Amagi Mountain Range, and the beautiful sea on clear days. The chairlift ride provides a pleasant breeze and a stunning 360-degree panorama of Sagami Bay and surrounding mountains.
make sure to come early! i came at 10am and still had to queue 45 minutes to buy tickets and reach the chair lift. there were mostly chinese tourists when i went. you also take a picture at the top of the lift and i was shocked that the staff immediately showed me the photo when i got off 5 seconds later. i bought it for 1200 yen and it makes a good souvenir! there’s also a stamp in the souvenir shop at the top if you collect stamps. the view at the top is windy but so memorable! totally recommend for an unforgettable experience

Where else can you ride up a volcano and take in views that feel like they’re straight out of a cartoon? The scenery is stunning, the experience is unique, and the whole place has a surreal, almost storybook quality. Absolutely worth it.

What a cool place! Take the bus from the Izu Train Station and you will be there I. Approx 45 mins. An adult return ticket will cost you 1000 Yen. Board the chair lift and enjoy the fun and the stunning views of the coast line, Mt Fuji and walk around the tip of an ancient volcano. Be early as there wait in line will be a long one.

100% worth doing!! One of the more unique sights I’ve seen, it was easy, well equipped, clean & well staffed. There’s dango for purchase at the top and walking the whole loop took 30ish minutes~ Came on a rainy day, super windy & the cable car would be scary for someone who is scared of heights.

Worth the wait! We waited about two hours, but the view from the top is absolutely spectacular and made every minute worthwhile. Once you're up there, plan for about 30 minutes to take it all in. Highly recommend!

The area transforms with the seasons; plum flowers bloom in spring while Japanese maples paint the landscape in fiery hues during autumn.
Very nice temple in a cute little town. You can spend a few hours here (temple and streets around it). There's a small museum in the temple that cost 300 yen to enter. It had some nice old masks so I think it was worth it.

The Shuzenji Temple is just a stone throw away from the footpath and the historical outdoor onsen. Unfortunately, when we visited the temple there was a group of Chinese tourists talking inadequately loud, yelling and screaming and not behaving at all in a way that other people could enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. So I tried to get away from there without having had the chance to discover the beauty of this place. Very sad.

The Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces, a historic iron-smelting facility from the Edo period, feature impressive 15.7-meter brick and steel chimneys. These furnaces are not only a significant part of Japan's military history but also hold UNESCO World Heritage status as the only remaining reverberatory furnaces in the country. The domed roof of the furnace was designed to reflect and concentrate heat for casting high-quality metal used in making cannons.
Nice place to spend a short time. We didn't actually go in but I wanted to see the towers.
Matthijs — Google review
Well, for a recognized and designated world heritage structure, it didn't really exude any of the "wow" factor. And to be honest it was a lot smaller than I expected, details and information around the furnace were quite lacking for visitors The tourist center did put up some decent exhibits (all in Japanese though) and information in regards to the history of the industrial revolution in Japan and how the furnace was a symbol of Japan's initial attempts at kick-starting the steel/metal industry. The surrounding area is surprisingly nice. With a tea plantation terrace nearby, and nestled in a quiet, quaint neighborhood.
TJ L — Google review
Great history of Japan and craftsmanship. It is a small historical museum where they made cannons and insightful how it was made. The time it took to make the cannon and also to bore hole in the cannon made it time consuming. Good historical site.

Waterfalls
Nestled in the mountains above Kawazu Town in southeastern Izu, the Kawazu Seven Waterfalls (Kawazu Nanadaru) offer a delightful forest walking trail spanning approximately 1 kilometer. The trail takes about an hour and a half to complete and leads visitors past seven waterfalls ranging from 2 meters to 30 meters tall.
The hike around the waterfalls was wonderful. It’s well kept and you can take the route from either end. We took a bus to the top of the trail and did it backwards. The falls are various sizes with a couple of them busting very tall and majestic. They had a couple rock throwing challenges along the hike that were fun. You’d pay 100円 to an honesty box and then take three tries to toss the rock into a basket a ways out.
Julian L — Google review
Wonderful walk along the river, gorgeous waterfalls. Mostly easy walking but some areas with lots (lots) of stairs. Can dip feet to cool down, one fall has a spring to help cool down. If you enjoy yourself at a leisurely pace, will take several hours. Or can be done quickly in probably just over an hour. If you find the hidden restaurant, go have barracuda or snapper!
Who O — Google review
A nice walk in the woods past 7 waterfalls. Most of the waterfalls are fairly small, and river access is prohibited in most areas. Not wheelchair friendly, but not a strenuous hike either. It was a nice enough stop, but wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it either.
C Z — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely breathtaking! Kawazu Seven Waterfalls is one of the most beautiful and peaceful spots in Izu. The trail is easy to walk and perfectly maintained, winding through lush forest and crystal-clear streams. Each of the seven waterfalls has its own charm — from small cascades hidden among mossy rocks to the majestic final fall that feels straight out of a movie. The sound of rushing water, birds singing, and the fresh mountain air make it such a relaxing experience. Along the way, there are lovely cafés and small onsen inns where you can stop and enjoy a break with coffee or soft-serve ice cream. It’s also a great place to visit year-round — vibrant green in summer, fiery red leaves in autumn, and tranquil beauty in winter. If you’re in Izu, this is a must-see destination. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to unwind in Japan’s natural beauty. 🌿💧
Moe F — Google review
Its very beautiful and serene but its quite a treck. Lovely views overall and quite a nice shift from the busy citylife. The village where the waterfalls are is also quite cozy with a very friendly shop and an amazing udon/soba restaurant serving cheap and amazingly delicious food. If you have physical limitations or similar it could be dificult to treck through but its very beautiful for those who apreciate nature.
Oliver T — Google review
A wonderful series of waterfalls that are very easy to access. The trail is very well kept mostly concrete and very easy for almost any one to complete. There are a few areas with some steep steps and a wooden bridge. The falls and river are beautiful and make this well worth a visit. You can complete it easily in under an hour even if you linger a while. There is a cool area where you can attempt to land some small stones on a rock out in the river for your wish to come true. Each fall has an associated diety a story and a stamp so be sure to bring a notebook to collect the stamps! You cannot get in the water though while we were there a tour group walking the river and going over some of the falls was going by. If you are in Shimoda or any nearby town this would make an excellent trip.
Trey T — Google review
It was nice to walk through the path visiting the 7 waterfalls and the volcanic rocks. I visited the walk from uphill to down starting from north toward south. It seems easier than the reverse.
Luke L — Google review
I read reviews that recommended taking the bus to the top fall and walking the trail backwards/down. This is good advice for most people. The tourist office guide in Kawazu at the bus stop saw my cane. I am 76 and have knee and hip replacements. She told me to get off at the first stop, see falls 1 to 3, backtrack and see falls 4 and 5. I did NOT follow her advice and went to the top fall to walk down. I was wrong: she was correct. The upper trail starts out nice but then there are a million steps down. I spent all my concentration on not tripping or falling. It interfered with my ability to enjoy nature. My wife and i made it. But if you are elderly with mobility issues do what the Kawazu tourist lady tried so hard to communicate to me. You are old and impaired. Accept it and enjoy what you can. Multiply picture by at least 30 times.

The Teddy Bear Museum is a must-visit spot if you're a fan of teddy bears and stuffed animals. The museum has a wide variety of bears, including some from as early as 1904, and exhibits on how these toys are made. It's usually not too crowded, making it an ideal place to spend some time alone or with friends.
Cutest museum ever! The place was super cute and cozy, the teddy bears were surprisingly very interesting and the Totoro exposition was perfect, they had a workshop where you can make your own teddy bear but you have to check the times before! I missed the workshop by 5 min 😭, but either way the expo was super fun to look at!
Daniela C — Google review
The museum is so cute, it has a good mix of actual history on teddy bears and then unique/cute ones. Some amazing displays as well and a build a bear style workshop. There is also a really good selection of Ghibli items and scenes. Plenty of photo opportunities and they have a great bakery with some really cool cookies and sweets. Unfortunately I didn’t get to their tea room in enough time to try anything but the menu looks good.

If you love teddy bears or plushies in general this is a great museum! There are many vintage and rare bears and the displays on the first floor are very detailed, interesting and cute! The top floor has a Totoro exhibition when I visited and there is also a workshop where you can make your own teddy bear. The highlight for me was seeing the vintage bears and also the garden cafe was very cute. You can have tea with a teddy and there’s also a small couch for a plushie you brought or bought to sit with you while you enjoy the cafe too!
Lana J — Google review
This was a delight, plenty of Toto for Ghibli fans, cute cafe where a teddy is sat waiting for you, pudding was delicious, brownie tiny but quite dark chocolate. Lots of photo oops too. If you want to build a Totoro check timings for the workshops, think there was 3 a day. There's two gifts shops, the first upstairs then down to the next one. Really good quality gifts, reasonably priced. Very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on Izu, especially on a rainy day. Three teenagers all enjoyed it.

a must go if you are into cute toys. it is cute that many people love teddy bears enough to make a museum for it. you get to see teddy bear exhibitions + a whole section for totoro. entry is 200yen cheaper if you present your mount omuro chairlift ticket to the cashier. there’s also a teddy bear making workshop but unfortunately i didn’t participate. there’s also a souvenir shop with various cartoon characters and a baked goods shop. i spent around 30-45 minutes here in total. a small museum but still very interesting and cute!

Fantastic little Muesum full of plushies much older than this little guy. Many of the Teddies have names and history which is quite fun to read. And the floor above is a fun little Ghibli plushie exhibit, great for fun photos. Lots of fun

We loved the gardens and the shop! You need to make a reservation to build your own Totoro, but that was a big highlight for our daughters. Well worth the price for a custom stuffed toy.
Amy T — Google review
The Izu Teddy Bear Museum is easily accessible, with no waiting time since you can buy tickets on-site for just 1,400 yen per adult. It’s an affordable and fun stop if you're in the area, featuring a variety of bears in sizes ranging from mini to large. There’s also a small bear shop and a cafeteria, though we only visited the museum and picked up some cards and a mini plush toy as souvenirs. Parking is free and access is simple. You can pay with MasterCard or Visa, but having cash on hand can be helpful. Google Translate is useful for purchasing tickets, and Google Maps can guide you to nearby attractions. Definitely worth a visit!

(Translated by Google) Visited on a Saturday in August. I stayed at an inn right across the street and was woken up early in the morning by the voices of the lifeguards practicing. Thank you for your hard work. It was a very large beach and the waves were calm. The water was a little murky due to the typhoon, but by the afternoon it was clear enough that you could see the fish swimming. The water was shallow and we were able to go quite far back. It seemed like the kids were enjoying the scenery while floating on their swim rings. There are free showers and changing rooms, as well as disabled toilets and beach huts, so families can enjoy themselves without any problems. There were many lifeguards and a well-maintained monitoring system, so we were able to enjoy swimming in the sea with peace of mind. I'll definitely go again next year. One of the best things about this beach is the Toi Onsen Maru, a converted boat that doubles as a hot spring bathhouse. Rinse-off in the hot spring after a swim—it was incredibly relaxing. The shallow waters are wide, so kids can play safely. The waves are calm, making it a perfect family destination. The nearby parking lot, which is free for two hours, was also a great help. It wasn't too crowded, so we enjoyed the stress-free experience. What impressed us most was the friendliness of the people, both locals and tourists. They greeted each other, were kind to our children, and the warm atmosphere was soothing. This beach is highly recommended for those looking for a relaxing time or a safe and enjoyable experience with their families.

The park also features a Wasabi museum where guests can taste real wasabi and explore various wasabi-flavored foods. Nice museum, interesting works of glass. Good variety of products in the souvenir store with great staff.

Extensive shop with a focus on glass and a cafe with a limited menu. The museum was a bit expensive and looked small so we didn't go in. Lots of parking.

Wasabi museum. If you ever wanted to taste real wasabi and learn more about this fascinating plant, here is your chance. Also lots of wasabi-flavored food available, which is really excellent. Taste the wasabi-spiced squid if you are adventurous, or the senbei (wasabi crackers) if you are cautious. And look at the wasabi graters - they have わさび (wasabi) in miniature letters as the grating plate. Very impressive!

Mihama Beach in Numazu offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji and is a popular spot for loggerhead turtles to breed. The nearby Numazu Summer Festival Kano River Fireworks adds to the charm of the area. The journey to Heda along Prefectural Highway 17 provides refreshing views of the Izu coastline, with little traffic even in summer. The beach itself is family-friendly, with designated squares for social distancing, free parking, and additional attractions like a tidal wall for fishing.
Fun little beach area for a chill family day. The beach is currently separated into squares for each family for social distancing. There was free parking and if you drive down a little further there’s even an tidal wall that’s great for fishing. On the beach itself there are bathrooms and a little boat/inner tube rental shop and food shop that wasn’t open when we went but maybe opens on the weekends. There’s also an amazing view of Mount Fuji from the tidal wall as well as a Tori gate with a walking trail from one side of the beach to the other.

If you're keen into fishing at night and enjoy swimming in a calm white sand beach, this is your place. Mihama beach is a bay while the other side it has rocky coastal area for fishing. You can also join the fishing boat trip from the nearby store.
M P — Google review
It's a good beach with almost clear water, no heavy waves and a lifeguard on standby. The entrance fee of ¥1500 for a kei car with 1 person was too expensive. Little or no shade so bring your tents and tarpaulins. Due to covid-19, they sectioned off spaces for social distancing. Only 2 restrooms available and only 2 shops with limited food choices.

Anti main stream spot. Really beautiful. Public transport a little bit incovenient but it’s worth it to visit. Kids friendly

I honestly wasn't sure what I would find here; it was more about the journey than the destination for me. The road I cycled to get to Heda (Prefectural Highway 17) offered a refreshing dearth of traffic, even in the middle of summer, and absolutely stunning views along the Izu coastline. Heda itself is a charming little fishing village. There's an aquarium and a shipbuilding museum there, both of which were closed when I went (on Wednesday).

The Wasabi fields of Ikadaba are a stunning sight, stretching some 800 meters into Suruga Bay and offering a picturesque coastal landscape. This location is popular among photographers for its breathtaking views of Mount Fuji in the distance. Recognized as an UNESCO Global Geopark, the area benefits from fresh spring water flowing from Mt. Amagi, creating the perfect conditions for growing wasabi using traditional methods such as the tatamiishi technique.
Stunning! First time seeing this. Drive up hill after the cover Wasabi field to the 2nd bridge, the view is much better plus the Wasabi are in the shadow of trees.
Romain B — Google review
Lovely, serene place to see, especially if you are interested in local production & wasabi. The roads leading there can be narrow lot of curves where one cannot see behind. There are parking places where you can leave your car for max 10 minutes. The opening hours published on Google maps are a bit misleading. The area is opened 24/7, there is no gate to close.
Alžběta B — Google review
Road is very narrow and uphill. There are woods fell down which may be stuck on the wheels
Mesut D — Google review
If you think this place is underwhelming you didnt go far enough!! The wasabi fields span up and down the entire mountain area. Take a walk around the corner!
ウルフJamie — Google review
Literally nothing to do or buy here, just some wasabi fields. Go Joren Falls instead, they have a shop selling wasabi products there and also some wasabi fields near the falls.
Kia T — Google review
Wasabi terrace field in Ikadaba, this portion of a long section of wasabi cultivation was breathtaking. Recognized as an UNESCO Global Geopark, the fresh spring water flowing from Mt. Amagi is the only optimal setting for growing wasabi. If you visit, take your time to enjoy the fresh air and beauty of the delicate wasabi. There is a little offshoot area to pull off your car to, but you can only park for 10 min. Be careful driving here as the roads are very narrow up and down the mountain.
Alex D — Google review
An interesting thing to see if you're really into Wasabi. Beware of some roads leading up to the area (I was going East) as they are narrow for two cars so there is a bit of that stress of having to figure things out every time a car comes from opposite direction.
Valerie S — Google review
Traditional wasabi cultivation in Shizuoka is a recognized Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. Here, wasabi is grown sustainably by the “tatamiishi” method that features a piles of rocks and pebbles within a terraced landscape to control water temperature and ensure the adequate flow of spring water down the entire field. The wasabi fields pictured here are relatively large—as you wind up and down the densely forested mountains, you can find smaller fields wherever there is a creek or stream. Unless you have a car or motorbike, this would be a very difficult place to visit. There is a place to park along the roadside for up to 10 minutes, but for most people, this is enough time to take in the views and appreciate the area.

Very foreigner friendly. The tasting wines were delicious. Tasting notes were available, however, you may need google translate to help you. Short walk to the tables, so no need for a tray. Staff are very friendly and speak English. Dog friendly.

Actually quite disappointed. For the price charged the food was only mediocre. The wasabi chicken missed all the salt and did not have much wasabi aroma. The miso pork loin was basically the same. Both dishes are quite pricey compared to the surrounding. The staff was accommodating and friendly. The restaurant menu for local wines is too small unless you want to buy bottles.
C N — Google review
Very unprofessional, don't bother coming. Staff did not label or mark tastings the way normal wineries do, and they were reluctant to give me paper to make my own notes. Also didn't want to give me a tray to carry my samples to a table. Wines were sour and poor quality. Cashier couldn't properly add up the cost of my tastings and tried to give me 1,000 Yen less change than was correct. Very pretty and nice view of Mt Fuji. Japanese language only, this place is not for tourists. Not very friendly or welcoming staff.

Darumayama is a mountain ridge with a trail and marker at its summit, offering breathtaking panoramas of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay. The area is known for its cherry blossoms, with different names such as Mamezakura in Izu, Komezaku in Hakone, and Fuji blossom near Mount Fuji. In spring, the fresh shoots of spring and pastel-colored cherry blossoms create a beautiful view near Darumayama.
For someone like me going by public transportation, you can take a bus to Heda pass, and it only takes one hour hike to Mt Daruma. The view was splendid, though it was quite windy (perhaps most of the time?) so you may want to be prepared.
CS T — Google review
The view is otherworldly.. Looks like mountains from Swiss. But only a few shade to rest from sunlight. The view will be prettier on sunny day as u can see the Mt Fuji from there. My advice is bring protection from sun and a lot of sunscreen.
ChoZin W — Google review
A great hiking course which you can choose to do 1 to 4 hrs depending on your energy level and available time. Easiest to go by car with some parking space in each entrance but you can also go by bus to a couple of entry point. This time we walked from Hetatouge, parked our car there, and walked about 2.5 hrs to Darumayama and returned to Hetatouge. Amazing view and cool breeze which is blowing below the hill. Can be quite windy and has up and down...so long sleeve t-shirt even in middle of summer, bottle of water and good shoes are highly recommend. No vending machine nor shop near by so make sure you bring your own supply. Love this place in all season bit especially in hot and humid Japanese summer.

Check out my latest video 3-minute video on the Pix4Japan YouTube video which features photos and video taken on Kinkanzan and Darumayama--two scenic mountains located on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Darumayama (Mt. Daruma) stands at a height of 982 meters and is known for its winding trails among kuma bamboo grass. Darumayama offer visitors a chance to experience the natural beauty of the Izu Peninsula, views of the Suruga Bay Coastline, and on a clear day, a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji. The trailhead to Mt. Darumayama can be easily accessed from the Asebigahara Parking Lot located about 220 meters away on the Nishi-Izu Skyline toll road. On this photo shoot, my border collie and I hiked directly from Mt. Kinkan to Mt. Darumayama via Mt. Kodarumayama, which took me about 2 hours. Be forewarned that the trails for Mt. Kodarumayama and Mt. Darumayama include many wooden staircases going straight up the side of the mountain. No special hiking gear is required, but be sure to bring enough water with you since you will work up a sweat climbing all those stairs!

It's said to be for beginners, but the final section is steep, and my legs and hips were sore. Underestimating the 982m is a shame. 💦 Along the way, you can enjoy clear views of Toda Port, plants (thistles, gentians, etc.), and jojo-like trees (many of which are leaning to one side, perhaps due to strong winds). From the summit, you can see both Suruga Bay and Sagami Bay, but unfortunately, Mount Fuji was obscured by haze. The Buddhist temple Shigetsuden may not be visually impressive, but venturing into the surrounding forest reveals captivating sights. Nestled beside a charming campground, Banjō Falls is a stunning 20-meter waterfall that captivates visitors with its natural beauty and serene surroundings. The falls cascade powerfully from the basalt columnar formations, creating an impressive sight as they plunge into a deep, clear basin below. This picturesque location not only offers breathtaking views but also features a picnic area for those looking to relax amidst nature.

The Grave of Minamoto no Noriyori, a significant historical landmark, is conveniently situated approximately five minutes away from the Shuzenji Toda line on Prefectural Route 188. It can be reached by walking for about 15 minutes from Shuzenji hot spring town, or alternatively, there is a nearby paid parking lot called Oyama.
(Translated by Google) "The grave of Minamoto no Noriyori in Shuzenji, Izu" I had been to Shuzenji Onsen once before with someone, but this time I reviewed the history and visited the place that I had been curious about for a long time by myself ✨ I'm really glad I visited because I felt a sense of accomplishment ☺️ Next time, I would like to stay at Shuzenji Onsen and take a more leisurely stroll through the hot springs. In the hometown where I was born, there was a legend about a rare cherry tree called ``Kamazakura'' that was designated as a national natural monument and was related to Minamoto no Noriyori, so I had been curious about it for a long time, so I'm really glad I visited ☺️ There are legends and historical sites all over Japan related to the brothers Yoritomo, Noriyori, and Yoshitsune, and it's romantic to take a walk while imagining the history. However, I wanted the sibling fights and power struggles to be moderate 🍀 Shuzenji is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and relax in the hot springs. I can understand why it was loved by cultural figures🎵 (Original) 『伊豆修善寺源範頼公のお墓』 以前一度だけ人に連れられて修善寺温泉を訪れた事がありましたが、今回歴史をおさらいしてずっと気になっていたこちらを一人で訪れてみました✨ 何だか達成感を得られたので訪れて本当に良かったです☺️ 今度は湯治がてら修善寺温泉に宿泊してもっとゆっくり散策したいと思いました。

(Translated by Google) [Visited on Sunday, October 27, 2024] ``The grave of Minamoto no Noriyori'' includes ``Shuzenji'' → ``The grave of Minamoto no Noriie'' and the grave of 13 Yoriie vassals, ``The Thirteen Samurai (13 samurai)''. I visited this place after touring the grave of the deceased and the bamboo forest path. It is located on a hill a little far from Shuzenji Temple, but within walking distance 🚶 There are signs (display signs) along the way, so I think you can find it. Minamoto no Noriyori was the sixth son of Minamoto no Yoshitomo, and was called Gamanokaja. His mother was a prostitute in Ikeda-shuku, Totomi Province (present-day Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture), and he was born in Gamanomikuriya (present-day Hamamatsu City) near Ikeda, giving him the name Gama. It is said that he was raised by Fujiwara (Takakura) Suenori, a mid-ranking aristocrat in Kyoto, and that he acquired that character and took the name Noriyori. In 1180, when Yoshinaka and his older brother Yoritomo had a conflict, he and his younger brother Yoshitsune defeated Yoshinaka, and then defeated the Taira clan at the Battle of Ichinotani, becoming the governor of Mikawa (Mikawa no kami) by virtue of his efforts. I was appointed as Mikawa no Kami). After that, the relationship between Yoritomo and Yoshitsune deteriorated, and Yoritomo ordered Noriyori to subjugate Yoshitsune, but he refused, so Yoritomo became suspicious of him. During the Soga brothers' revenge in 1193, a false report of Yoritomo's death was reported, and a grieving Masako was told, ``As long as Noriyori is here, you can rest assured.'' '', Noriyori tried to make excuses, but in the end he was imprisoned in Shuzenji Temple. It is said that he was attacked by Kajiwara Kagetoki, and committed suicide at Shinko-in Temple under Hie Shrine. Noriyori, who together with Yoshitsune did his best for his older brother Yoritomo, was forced to commit suicide by Yoritomo in the end...I'm sure he must have regretted it😢 What a cruel time the Kamakura period was, when people had to doubt their parents, children, and even siblings. We visited around noon on a Sunday, and there was no one else there except for the two of us.

(Translated by Google) Minamoto no Yorinori's grave is located in Shuzenji, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Minamoto [Mikawa no kami] Yorinori was the younger brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the military commander. My younger brother played an active role in hunting down the Heike clan... When the relationship between Minamoto no Yoritomo and his other younger brother, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, deteriorated, Minamoto no Yoritomo ordered Minamoto no Yorinori to defeat Yoshitsune. However, Minamoto no Yorinori refused this life. This made Minamoto no Yoritomo suspicious. Afterwards, Yoritomo's safety was unknown due to an assassination attempt on Minamoto no Yoritomo during Makigari, and at that time, Yorinori said to Masako Hojo, ``As long as Yorinori is here, there is no need to worry,'' which led to Yorinori losing the position of Kamakura-dono. It was suspected that he was targeting her, and he was accused of conspiracy. I wonder if there's some slanderous comments from Yoritomo's retainers in the outfield... When his older brother, Minamoto no Yoritomo, safely survived the assassination attempt and returned to Kamakura, he imprisoned Minamoto no Yorinori in Shuzenji Temple. Yorinori may have had no intention of treason. However, misunderstandings lead to misunderstandings, and he is abandoned by his brother and imprisoned...and Yoritomo forces Kajiwara Kagetoki to succeed. That's pitiful. Minamoto no Yoritomo must have been tormented by doubts because he was at the top...the pressure of being chased from behind, the position where his life was threatened, and the possibility that his current position might be replaced. How sad that two of the most trusted brothers would kill each other... I guess the era I lived in made me that way. The cemetery is located on a hill that is very difficult to find. Main street of Shuzenji? From there, you enter through a very narrow road, but there is a small stone monument at the entrance that guides you to the cemetery. Don't miss it. We quietly joined hands and offered sake. Please feel free to stop by and bring something as an offering. I think Yorinori-sama will be happy too. By the way, there is a coin parking lot with the lowest price in the area diagonally across from the entrance to the Minamoto no Yorihan Tomb. It's a bit of a walk (about 700m?) to Shuzenji, but it's close enough that you can park your car and go for a tour. Just for reference. The waterfalls were quite impressive. They were much higher than I expected from the pictures I had seen. Maybe 100 m tall. It rained a couple of days ago, but there wasn’t a lot of water coming over the waterfall. The Ohira shrine may be a better destination for Google maps. I got in a dreaded Infiniti loop going round and round on narrow roads to go to point A that you can see in one of the photos. Point A is probably a few hundred yards from the actual waterfall but is the wrong place! to go to to see the waterfall we literally went in the same circle two or three times in different directions and I gave up and use some other maps system. A nice place to hang out and have a snack or picnic. There are toilets there and a sink with running water. We saw a tree frog and a big what I would call bullfrog the shrine is very nice.

Interesting spot, the Daruma temple sports one of the largest Daruma monk statues in Japan. Once you go through the temple and pray to various Daruma idols you go into the souvenir area where you can drink a wonderful herbal tea for free. Delicious! Expect to spend a bit of change at this temple.

(Translated by Google) This is a temple that caught my attention when I visited this area before. This time I decided to stop by and give it a try. When I entered the parking lot 🅿️, an old man said, ``Welcome.'' There were no cars in the parking lot 🅿️. As I followed the old man's instructions, I immediately came to the stairs, and there was an old woman and an old man cleaning the temple grounds. When I went up the stairs, an old lady explained to me in a way that I couldn't quite understand, speaking too fast, using a dialect, and having a bad tongue. Apparently there is an admission fee to enter the main hall and pray. For some reason they deducted 100 yen from the 500 yen price, so we paid 800 yen for the two of us. We were a little confused as we had expected to be able to pray easily, but since it was a temple, we thought it would be rude to refuse, so we entered the main hall. The old lady followed me the whole time and explained things to me. In the main hall, wishes from celebrities and singers are pasted under the daruma. When we paid the admission fee, we each received two sticks of incense sticks, and there was also a stick of incense sticks in the main hall with a sign saying ¥100. There's no place to walk around inside, just look at the daruma doll and you're done. The old lady said, ``Please feel free to take photos,'' and asked, ``Shall I take a photo?'' and took a picture of us. Immediately I reached the exit and opened the door to find that it was a shop that was twice as large as the main hall! ️A female clerk came and explained about the Daruma doll, and an old lady also explained it to us. At first, I was thinking of buying a Daruma doll and going home, but I got fed up with the businessmanship and ended up buying just a bell keychain that made a good sound. I had no idea that there was a temple that looked like a treasure house in the countryside. Of course I won't be visiting again. The hot springs that originated from Toi Onsen, which spring from within the Toi Gold Mine, are located within the Anraku-ji Temple grounds and are also known as "Mabuyu." The temple has experienced periods of prosperity and decline, but in 1534, Zen Master Daiyo Seiken, the eighth abbot of Saisho-in Temple (the third temple of the sacred site), renovated the temple buildings, converted the religion, and renamed it, and it has remained as it is today. The natural history museum in Georia is an incredibly impressive establishment that offers a comprehensive exploration of Japan's geological past, particularly the Mt Fuji region and the Izu Peninsula. Despite its compact size, this museum houses a wealth of knowledge and captivating exhibits that provide valuable insights into millions of years of history. The displays are both educational and engaging, with interactive elements that allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Absolutely incredible museum. Anyone keen to learn about the geological history of Japan, the Mt Fuji region and the Izu Peninsula should visit here. Not only does Shuzenji have a quaint town with lovely hot springs, but also a rich history formed over millions of years. The museum is a single large room, but don’t let that put you off as it is packed full of extremely informative and interesting displays and hands on exhibits. Information throughout is both in Japanese and English, even the introduction video which was excellent. Expect to spend a couple of hours here to take it all in, and an hour if you’re just browsing. Enjoy this wonderful place that is also free! It is a global UNESCO GeoPark.

(Translated by Google) This free-to-enter facility uses the latest projection mapping, videos, and explanatory panels to clearly explain the formation of the Izu Peninsula, which moved from the south on the movement of tectonic plates and collided with Honshu, leaving only land, as well as its mysterious topography and the history of volcanic activity. With some knowledge of geology, it was easy to understand for me, but I felt it might be a little difficult for others. It's well worth knowing that about 20 million years ago, the Izu Peninsula was located far south of Honshu, several hundred kilometers from the mainland, and was a group of volcanoes submerged on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. However, as the Philippine Sea Plate moved northward, it approached Honshu and collided with it about 1 million years ago, resulting in the peninsula's current shape. Additionally, visitors can benefit from free parking at this location.
Underated! Fantastic Beach in walk distance from Toi. Safe for swimming in perfect clean environment. As japanese people do not go to the beach, you can enjoy it for yourself. No showers or restaurants but a nice hiking trail from Toi for adventurous people. Otherwise easy to reach on the coast road.

You spent a lot of money to bring the sand, but you didn't spend a penny to make it nice and more developed..the ugly useless green fences should be removed and if you are worried that the sand flyes away then build a 1.5meter walking wall at the beginning of the beach basically just after the parking space and make the top in wood with lights so people can walk on it and get down to the sand. Also a Beach volley pitch, some game for kids and some palm trees on the beach would make it more esotic. Also it should be cleaned and put a big sign at the entrance with written Odoi Beach and eventually also from Toi an other sign with the directions to this beach. Also clean it and put some nice low volume music in summer instead of bothering people with the microphone message at each hour...

So, I was told that if I parked the car, I wouldn't be able to get out because the exit direction was fixed. I would like you to guide me from the beginning. The shower is cold with fresh water, and there is no enclosure, so you can't take off your swimsuit and wash it, so you can't get the sand off. We recommend the hot shower room at the nearby food stall village for 300 yen. You can also take a shower and change your clothes. There are only two showers and two changing rooms, so it gets crowded quickly. The waves were a little high and I enjoyed it, probably because of the weather, but if you were in shallow water, you would get pulled in quite a bit after the waves came. The water gets deep as soon as you enter the water, so children under elementary school age should be careful. There is a lifesaver, who smiles and kindly warns parents with children, giving the impression that they are in good hands. It's not crowded and you can enjoy swimming in the sea. (Translated by Google) *Resuming operations from April 2024* Although I had no experience in fishing, I visited the company in June after it reopened because I had participated in a crowdfunding campaign to revive the company. There is a fish tank mainly for horse mackerel and another fish tank mainly for larger fish, and when I asked the husband of the staff about the type of fish, he found that there were a lot of porgies swimming around that day. There were also schools of porgies swimming outside the float, attracted by the food sprinkled in the fish tank. The sea was highly transparent, so I could clearly see the fish swimming close to the surface, and as someone with no fishing experience, it was fun to see if they would bite or not. As soon as you hang your rod outside the small fish cage, a school of fish will come and attack your bait. Is this what you call eating? Although my husband carefully taught me how to attach the bait, I was still inexperienced, and although I caught a few fish a few times, most of them ended up with the bait taken away. There was more than I expected in one pack of frozen shrimp bait, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience fishing for just under three hours in the morning. The porgies outside the float didn't pay any attention to me, so I'd like to do some preparation and try again so I can get them to bite. This charming red bridge spanning the Katsura River in Shuzenji has been one of Izu's most photographed spots since the Edo period. Originally built in 1834 as part of the Tokaido highway network, the current structure faithfully replicates the traditional design after careful reconstruction. What makes it special: • Vibrant vermilion hue that pops against the surrounding greenery • Perfect arched reflection in the river's calm waters • Adjacent to Shuzenji Temple and bamboo forest for easy combining • Evening illuminations that create magical views The bridge's name ("Kokei" meaning "Scenic View") was bestowed by a passing scholar who declared it one of Japan's most beautiful crossings. Its raised center arch once accommodated boat traffic carrying tea and silk to nearby hot spring inns. More than just a crossing, it's a living postcard of old Japan. Tip: Visit at sunrise when morning mist swirls around the bridge's pillars. The small teahouse at its foot serves excellent matcha with bridge views. Historical Note: The original bridge was washed away in an 1870 flood. Local craftsmen rebuilt it using traditional techniques in 1875, maintaining the distinctive curvature that makes it so photogenic. Perfect for: • Photography enthusiasts • History buffs • Romantic strolls • Autumn color viewing (the surrounding maples are spectacular) Don't Miss: The nearby "Bridge of Love" where couples traditionally attach padlocks - a modern tradition contrasting beautifully with Kokei's ancient heritage.

A nice little park that hardly anyone goes to. I think the bridge near here is for lasting love. This famous author went there for he had a heart ailment and was dying. He noticed a red frog drowning in the river and related it to his own experience. Hence the park name red frog. It is a nice and quiet place that children can run around safely in with a little structure to keep you dry in the rain. You can see the river up close.

There is a biotope in the park along the Katsura River where fireflies live. From late May to mid-June, they hold an event called "Firefly Evening." Hotel guests can watch the fireflies in yukata robes. The park is lit up at night, so you can just drop by. I went there in mid-June, and blue lights were shining in the biotope. I was happy because it was my first time seeing Genji fireflies. I thought the color of their light was bluer than that of Heike fireflies. By the way, Heike fireflies emit a yellow-green light. And Heike fireflies are about half the size of Genji fireflies. The name Akakaeru Park comes from the location of the novel "Akakaeru" by the author Kensaku Shimagi. The parking lot was spacious, and they even had a tarpaulin rope and roller slide. (Original) 旅行中にドッグランを利用 お互い顔見知りの常連さんがいらっしゃいましたが、皆さんフレンドリー 駐車場も広く、ターサンロープやローラー滑り台などもあり

(Translated by Google) If I had come on a sunny day, the red of the autumn leaves would have stood out even more. You can also clearly see Mt. Fuji. There is also a dog run, which is nice for a light walk on the mountain path. (Original) 天気が良い日に来れば紅葉の赤がもっと映えたかな。また、富士山も、はっきり見えます。ドッグランもあり、軽い山道散歩には良い感じです。

(Translated by Google) There are play equipment for children and a dog run, and many people from surrounding cities come here on weekends to play. You can see Mt. Amagi, the backbone of the Izu Peninsula. The entrance is a little hard to find, but if you have a navigation system, it won't be a problem.

No parking lot. Difficult to reach out. Bears might appear. Road is not good for cars.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately it was raining, but we were able to see the beautiful water surface, known as Namezawa Blue. We walked along the river to Tarosugi, and it felt like a light hiking trail, so it was a pleasant walk. (Original) あいにくの雨でしたが、滑沢ブルーといわれるきれいな水面を見ることが出来ました。太郎杉まで川沿いを歩いて行きましたが、軽めにハイキングコースという感じで気持ちよく歩けました。

(Translated by Google) There were hardly any tourists, it was very cool and quiet, and the water was so clean that it was refreshing. (Original) 観光客が殆どおらず、とても涼しく静か。水もきれいで心が洗われました。

(Translated by Google) I went on a scorching hot day, but it was surprisingly cool, and the river water was very cold and refreshing. The road to the site was narrow, so an oncoming car would have been a problem. I managed to find a vacant space that wasn't really a parking lot. (Original) 酷暑の日に行きましたが嘘のように涼しくて川の水もとても冷たくて気持ちよかった 現地に行くまでの道が狭く対向車来たらアウト 駐車場とは言えない空いているスペースに何とか置けた

(Translated by Google) While the clear, emerald-blue pools tend to catch your eye, the real highlight is the andesite monolith at the riverbed. It's cracked like the scales of a giant snake, and looking at the riverbed, which is free of gravel deposits, it almost seems as if the waters of Namezawa Valley are flowing over a recumbent giant snake. There are legends of giant snakes all over Izu, including the Snake Stone at Hebiishi Pass and the Snake Waterfall at Kawazu Nanataki Falls, but Namezawa Valley is where you can feel the snake's presence the most. There is a footpath on the left bank of the river (on the left as you head downstream), and if you want to see the Taro Cedar tree, we recommend walking along the river.
