Izu Panorama Park is a picturesque mountain park that offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji from its cable car, viewing terrace, and restaurant. In addition to this, the area boasts various attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage site Nirayama Reverbatory Furnaces, Mishima Skywalk - Japan's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, and the beautiful Kawazuzakura cherry trees.
Great experience. We went around 3pm and it wasn't crowded at all. We had the cable car to ourselves and get to enjoy the amazing view. The view of Mt Fuji at the top was amazing. There's few restaurants at the top which you can sit and enjoy the view. Comes with a small garden for you to walk along and a free foot spa with an amazing view! Parking was free. The shop sells a lot of cute souvenirs and Japan snacks!

I took the guests on a gondola ride and we walked around the summit area. Although I personally wished I could have relaxed at the terrace café while enjoying the mountain view, the guests took their time and seemed to enjoy themselves. They appeared very pleased with the spectacular view.

The view at the top is breathtaking!! The tranquility and beauty of Mt.Fuji gave me the chills because it is purely beautiful to see and admire. You can choose to hike up the mountain. Because we're travelling with two kids under 4yo -- we opt for the cable car. It is clean, roomy, and very well maintained. Not scary at all~ There are many facilities at the top. There are cafes, some eateries, souvenir shops, a small shrine area, kids playground, a food onsen and plenty photo spots with Mt Fuji as backdrop. My kids went straight to the kids area first (of coz) - climbing ropes, flying foxes, slides, etc. There isn't any soft paddings on the ground.....most are dirt and rocks....so would suggest supervising the younger kids when they are playing. Go make time and get a drink or small snack at the cafe, so that you can enjoy the seating they have near the infinity "pool". There are massive day bed sofas available outside too....which i believe you can rent hourly. The food are delicious and reasonably priced!! Definitely worth visiting when in the area :D Visited back in Oct 2022.

The Izu Panorama Park Ropeway Station is the starting point of a scenic 1.8-kilometer ropeway ride up Mt. Katsuragi in Izunokuni, Shizuoka. The base station itself is well-equipped with a souvenir shop and an Italian restaurant, making it a pleasant stop even before you board the gondola. Each ropeway cabin is spacious, fitting up to six adults comfortably. The 7-minute journey offers breathtaking views of the Izu Peninsula, Suruga Bay, and even Mt. Fuji on clear days. The ride is smooth, relaxing, and perfect for travelers of all ages. At the summit, you’ll arrive at the Ao Terrace, a modern observation deck with cafes, walking trails, and footbaths. It’s a beautifully designed area where visitors can enjoy refreshments while soaking in the panoramic landscape. The ropeway operates year-round, with round-trip fares at ¥2,500 for adults and ¥1,400 for children. The station is wheelchair accessible, and there’s free parking for visitors. The station is also easily reachable by bus from Izu-Nagaoka Station. Whether you’re here for a quick visit or a full day of exploring, the ropeway station sets the tone for a relaxing, scenic experience that highlights the natural beauty of the region.

Very nice here. The ropeway ride is thrilling, especially with steep climbs. On cloudy days like mine, Mt. Fuji might be hidden, but the view is still stunning. The footbath is relaxing (bring your own towel or buy one). Plenty of snacks around—the black beef curry with wasabi is incredible and highly recommended. You can stroll the whole area in under an hour, including a small quiet shrine. Not too crowded. Definitely worth visiting.
Piggly W — Google review
An expensive entry fee, but a well maintained boardwalk, and beautiful views of the area.. we were lucky to see Mt Fuji the day we went.
T T — Google review
Perfect tourist trap around here becuase you get a wondering view of Mt. Fuji and Shizouka oceans and mountains. One round trip is ¥3500 and it is worth it, there is actually a lot of stuff you can do up there. Cafe and snacks are yummy and the Matcha ice cream is the bomb. The glass noodles are awesome becuase you get to cut it yourself. The Dango is also something to try! There is a nice foot bath for your feet! Please do it and there is towels to use for a small donation. A shrine for a quick prayer. The picture spot at the top of the area. Then they just extended the walk area for more views! Beautiful~ Highly recommended! The gift shop is also awesome as well. Lots of wonderful products and not just weird stuff everything is good quality gifts and snakcs.

Izu Panorama Park truly stands out as one of the best places to view Mount Fuji. My visit was in winter, under a cloudless blue sky, which made the experience even more spectacular. From the mountain top, you get an unparalleled view of the majestic Mount Fuji, but that's not all. The panorama includes Suruga Bay, the rolling hills of the Izu Peninsula, sprawling farmlands, quaint houses, and winding roads, all coming together to paint a breathtaking picture. The clarity of the day was ideal for photography, with Fuji-san standing out against the horizon. However, be prepared for the wind, as it was quite strong during my visit, which is something to consider if you're planning to spend a lot of time soaking in the views. Despite the chilly gusts, the beauty of the landscape made it all worthwhile. The park itself is well-maintained, offering various vantage points to capture the perfect shot or simply to enjoy the natural beauty. Overall, if you're in the area, Izu Panorama Park is a must-visit for anyone looking to see one of Japan's most iconic sights from a unique and beautiful perspective. Just remember to bring a jacket to fend off the wind! Scenery Rating:5.0 Ease of arrival score:4.0

The Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces, a historic iron-smelting facility from the Edo period, feature impressive 15.7-meter brick and steel chimneys. These furnaces are not only a significant part of Japan's military history but also hold UNESCO World Heritage status as the only remaining reverberatory furnaces in the country. The domed roof of the furnace was designed to reflect and concentrate heat for casting high-quality metal used in making cannons.
Nice place to spend a short time. We didn't actually go in but I wanted to see the towers.
Matthijs — Google review
Well, for a recognized and designated world heritage structure, it didn't really exude any of the "wow" factor. And to be honest it was a lot smaller than I expected, details and information around the furnace were quite lacking for visitors The tourist center did put up some decent exhibits (all in Japanese though) and information in regards to the history of the industrial revolution in Japan and how the furnace was a symbol of Japan's initial attempts at kick-starting the steel/metal industry. The surrounding area is surprisingly nice. With a tea plantation terrace nearby, and nestled in a quiet, quaint neighborhood.
TJ L — Google review
Great history of Japan and craftsmanship. It is a small historical museum where they made cannons and insightful how it was made. The time it took to make the cannon and also to bore hole in the cannon made it time consuming. Good historical site.

World Heritage sight. Worth to visit with thinking how people in Edo era protect Japan from external countries.
Junji ( — Google review
Since becoming a world heritage site, there have been lots of upgrades and it's now a lovely tourist attraction which won't suck your wallet dry overwhelm even the oldest member of your party.
Lloyd W — Google review
I was treated very kindly when I came I to the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces Historical site. I do not speak any Japanese and the employees were so helpful by giving me an English brochure to learn more about this very important site to mark the beginning of the Japanese industrial revolution. The video was in Japanese but I understood the iron smelting process. Fascinating! I like history.

A bit disappointing From a customer’s point of view, the admission fee should be reduced while it’s being restored. I could not see anything.

Shinto shrine

Mishima Taisha is a stunning Shinto temple with well-maintained grounds and a small museum displaying historical artifacts. Its origins date back over 1,300 years, making it an integral part of ancient Japanese history. As the Ichinomiya of Izu, the shrine holds great significance as the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed for the revival of the Genji clan.
The Shrine at Mishima is beautiful and quintessential Japanese. It is free, so you can make a generous offering to the ancestors. If, like me (an uncultured British barbarian) you make an offering and bow deeply but forget to clap to wake the spirits, someone might be stood behind you to clap for you. Arigato gozaimashita to them. The gardens are a wonderful delight, and there is a deer enclosure and pools filled with carp (that’s C-A-R-P). A great place to put into practice all of the good manners you may have picked up on your travels.

When I went here, by recommendation of someone I know, kind of visited it during an event of hanami, where sakura was in full bloom and food stalls were stationed😉. The cherry blossoms was beautiful and recommend visiting the omiyage shop and buy the tea set🤭. Lastly, one star deduction for non-foreigner friendly area? Haha. Because everything was written in japanese, I couldn't do the praying😅.

This temple is truly charming and peaceful, filled with old traditions that make it special. It’s a popular spot loved by both locals and visitors. The atmosphere becomes even more magical at night, especially during the matsuri festival, when the lights and celebrations bring the temple to life. 🙏🏼🇯🇵🏯🎎 🌸 Wishes People Commonly Pray for at Mishima Taisha 1. Beautiful and historic shrine! Mishima Taisha Shrine is a peaceful and culturally rich destination. The traditional architecture, serene gardens, and sacred atmosphere make it perfect for reflection and photography. Walking around the grounds, you can feel the deep history and spiritual significance of the place. Ideal for families, couples, or anyone interested in Japanese culture and Shinto traditions. A must-visit when in Mishima!

I visited on a Saturday just after the new year. There were many food stalls set up for the huge crowd visiting the shrine. There was a huge number of people waiting to go inside the main shrine. Most likely it is not this crowded on other days.

Beautiful and peaceful shrine, there is a lovely Goshuin here as well as a 1,200 year old tree and deer that can be fed with crackers. I imagine in a few weeks the sakura will make this an incredibly beautiful place.

Nature & Parks
Izu Mito Sea Paradise is a renowned aquarium featuring penguins, walruses, and a variety of marine life from Suruga Bay. The facility boasts a large pool that can hold 80 tons of natural seawater, providing an ideal habitat for nearly 90 species of sea creatures. Visitors can witness captivating performances by marine animals and observe emperor penguins and ornamental fish in the aquarium area.
One of the best place to enjoy your time with family! The dolphin and sea lion shows are mind blowing!! There was a show where they feed a 640kg sea lion and that was sooo fun to watch! You can enjoy many deep sea fish and creatures! Also there is a snack stand that has many food options and the price is reasonable. Try the jellyfish ice cream. It has real jellyfish inside. Really tasty! There is a gift shop also that has many beautiful things you'll like! Prices are reasonable compared to other gift shops. Ticket price: 2200 yen (if bought there). If you buy from website or Line coupon, then it'll be 2000 yen. For those above 64 years old, ticket price is 1800 yen. I'd say, the ticket price sounds expensive but the experience is totally worth it!! Plan for 5 hours and you'll enjoy many many things!
Rubel ( — Google review
Our family (4 month old to grandparents) all really enjoyed this aquarium! It was perfect for our little one to enjoy sea creatures and close ups with dolphins and sea lions you don’t usually get to have at larger aquariums. Highly recommend if you’re staying in the area!
Maitri S — Google review
A beautiful place. The shows are fun, the animals are super cute, and the staff are really kind. Affordable entrance, yummy food, cool activities. I will surely return one day.
Victor C — Google review
A very beautiful aquarium to visit. Here you can see animals like seals, sea lions, and dolphins up close. It has several incredible shows. Parking is large and easy to find.
Claudia M — Google review
Relatively small Aquarium located at a quaint location. Was a bit held back at the entrance fees at the beginning, but the experience at the aquarium really made the money worth it. The walrus, seals and dolphin shows were really good and I highly recommend them to watch them :) Really love how bonded the keepers and animals are. Seeing their interactions really made my day.
Mervyn L — Google review
The animals are depressed. Way too expensive for what you get. Small enclosures. No updates since the 90s. UPDATE YOUR ENCLOSURES! Please please please don’t spend your money here. One of the worst aquariums I’ve ever been to. It’s animal abuse!
Rex H — Google review
A nice and pretty place. A holy ground for love livers must come here if you love the anime. The entrance fee is around 3k yen The inside is a beatifull place filled with sea animal you can see pinguin walrus dolphin etc. When i come its in winter so not really much people come here the cafe also closed. I come here in 2020 january just before covid hits hard. Hope i can come here again.
Rio V — Google review
The price is rather steep for the scale of the aquarium but it's quite understandable given it's located in a small town. There wasn't much to do here rather than aquariums and performance show, if you wanted to catch the show at least you have to time your visit right because they run on a schedule. It was quite packed when I visit so I'm not sure if they still run performance if there's only few people on board. Something to note, after the entrance they asks you for an involuntary photoshoot then at the exit they will ask you to buy off the print from them for a certain fee (about 2000 yen iirc). This might catch you off guard so you can either politely say no or if you are a fan of LL! Sunshine, you can buy your photo attached to an acrylic keychain of your favorite member for 1500 yen. I would recommend visiting this place at least once if you are in Numazu area.

Observation deck
At the top of the mountain, Ao Terrace offers a stunning observation deck with three water basins designed to reflect the blue hues of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the sky. The vibrant blue color of the water enhances the breathtaking panoramic views from this vantage point. On clear days, one basin even reflects an upside-down image of Mt. Fuji's peak. Visitors can savor these vistas while feeling a gentle breeze and enjoying private spaces for tea or relaxation.
An unexpected good time! We visited the Izu Panorama Park bc of a YouTuber I follow. I was expecting the cafe at the top but there was so much more than just the cafe!! Kids playground, walking trail, hammocks, shrine, look out spot and very 360 cool views. Fuji was hiding from us but we still had a great time! Give yourself 1-2hrs to just hangout and enjoy.
Tanya R — Google review
We thought it was expensive. But the view was really nice and it was so clean. Worth it. ✨️ There's a spot where you can put your feet in the water, so take a small handkerchief to wipe the water off :)

A stunning location with breathtaking views! You can take a scenic cable car ride up and down the mountain, which adds to the experience. At the base, there’s a souvenir shop with lots of local gifts, and at the top, you’ll find a cozy café where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The reflections on the water surface make it an ideal spot for photography — every shot looks like a postcard. Peaceful, beautiful, and definitely worth a visit for both the view and the atmosphere.

We were late and one of the last few to go up the ropeway. Because it was sakura season, we saw cherry blossoms on the way up. At the top, the view was breathtaking. The sunset and cherry blossoms set a nice landscape to the whole place. Fuji-san was initially hiding behind the clouds but eventually peeked out after 30-45mins. My travel companions said we were very lucky as Fuji-san doesnt appear all the time. It is true, bcos he was hiding behind fog when we went to Lake Kawaguichiko the next day. We sat at the chairs along the open terrance with hot coffee in hand. It was very calming. We didnt walk around bcos we were there late but I will make it a point to do the walkabouts when i go again. I see from other reviews there is a lot more to see.

Absolutely worth a visit on a clear day. Price to get up is not cheap but they made it really nice. Few people so our visit felt quite special. Gift shop on the bottom is an experience in itself
Markus H — Google review
Ao Terrace, located at the summit of Mt. Katsuragi and accessible via the Izu Panorama Park Ropeway, is a peaceful, beautifully designed spot offering stunning panoramic views of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay. The terrace features wide open spaces, relaxing seating, and tranquil water features that reflect the sky and surrounding mountains—perfect for unwinding and soaking in the natural beauty. There are several amenities at the top: Katsuragi Coffee serves drinks and light bites, and Katsuragi Saryo offers local specialties and desserts in a modern Japanese-style café. For those seeking a quieter, more private experience, small gazebos are available for rent. Visitors can also enjoy the Fujimi-no-Ashiyu, a footbath overlooking the mountains, or stroll along the boardwalk to Saezuri-no-Oka Observatory for more peaceful views and the sounds of nature. The area is pet-friendly, clean, and well-maintained, making it ideal for couples, families, or solo travelers. Whether you’re here for the views, the food, or just to relax, Ao Terrace is a must-visit destination that perfectly blends scenic beauty with comfort. Best enjoyed on clear days for maximum visibility of Mt. Fuji.

世界遺産の駅! World Heritage station! This is the station from where you walk to Hansharo which also includes a micro brewery of the same name! For the railway buffs: Izu-Nagaoka Station was opened on May 20, 1898 as Nanjō Station (南条駅 Nanjō -eki) as the terminal station for the first phase of construction of the Sunzu Line. The line was extended onwards to Ōhito on July 17, 1899. The station was given its present name on May 25, 1919. The station building was rebuilt in 1986. Izu-Nagaoka Station has one side platform and one island platform connected to the station building by an overpass. However, only the island platform serving tracks 2 and 3 is in normal use for passenger traffic and is used for bidirectional traffic for both normal and express services. The station building is manned and has automatic ticket machines, a manned service counter and shops.

The tomato omelet rice had fluffy eggs and went perfectly with the tomato soup. They also had a demi-glace version, but I'm glad I chose the tomato version. I also had iced coffee. It was refreshing and perfect after a meal. On my way back, I had some mikan squash and hot spring manju. It's a bit pricey, but you can get a hot spring manju set for just 50 yen more than your drink. The hot spring manju had a short shelf life, so I gave up on buying it as a souvenir, but I'd love to have it again. The mikan squash had something like mikan jam in it, and it was very rich and satisfying. I'd like to try a different menu item the next time I use the station. Katsuragi Shrine is a must-visit, offering stunning views of Mt. Fuji from its heights. The 7-minute ropeway ride from the ground provides a unique perspective of the surroundings as you ascend. Visitors are amused by the gondola's quirky start and arrival after decades of not using one. Additionally, the shrine boasts clean restroom facilities both at the top and bottom, ensuring a comfortable visit for all.
(Translated by Google) It's something that doesn't come easily even if you're nearby. A friend recommended me to go there at least once, and I came here because I wanted to see Mt. Fuji from this height. It took 7 minutes to ride the ropeway from the ground. It was different from how the ropeway looks from a distance to the top, and how the ropes are stretched on the way. The trail is gentle at first, like the wave of a gourd, but after passing a mandarin orange field at the halfway point, it quickly climbs to the top at a 60 degree slope, and after 50 meters of walking, you will come across a torii gate. Although it was relocated, it is a fine shrine building. Shrine on the top of Mt Katsuragi in the Sky Garden of Izunokuni Panoramic Park. Accessible by the seven minute long rope-way ride. Lots of other things to see in the park on top of the mountain, including great views of Mt Fuji on a fine day. There is a lovely little arched bridge over to the shrine which makes it picturesque from a certain angle. There are a few cherry blossoms around, but the mountain top is most resplendent when the azalea are in bloom in late spring.

The Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium is a unique attraction that showcases deep-sea creatures, including luminescent fish, octopuses, and the rare coelacanth. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring frozen coelacanths, considered living fossils, and get up-close views of massive deep-sea isopods. The aquarium covers the depths of Suruga Bay and other deep-sea locations worldwide, displaying about 1,500 creatures from approximately 60 species.
Been to a number of aquariums and this has to be a really unique one with creatures not seen in some of the big aquariums. Many specimens of deep sea fish (naturally so, as they thrive in very different environments hard to replicate in the aquarium setting). Good place to learn about deep sea fishes and hopefully more written explanation in English would be helpful. For the price it is worth the visit. There are also some fun entertainment rides relating to the aquarium around it.

This aquarium has a reasonable ticket price and is worth a visit, especially if you haven’t been before. The space inside is quite large and well-organized, making it easy to walk around without feeling crowded. While there aren’t many rare species on display, it’s still a fun and educational experience for all ages. There are restaurants and a parking lot conveniently located nearby, making it a great spot to spend a few hours with family or friends. Overall, a pleasant visit!

We went on a Monday at 12pm. Even though it was a midday in the weekday, there was still a few people inside. Very unique selection of animals because it depends on what is caught. We went when it was off-season, so there was no flapjack octopus. In addition to the deep sea animals, there are comprehensive explanations of how they catch the animals, how they maintain the aquarium etc. Overall a bit of a small aquarium, but definitely worth a visit especially for its price!

A very beautiful aquarium to visit, with a good and wide variety of fish. It's also located in a cozy town surrounded by typical regional foods and culture. Parking is large and easy to find.

Very interesting museum! It also has an aquarium floor with many different deep sea creatures. There are also English explanations on most objects. We saw real japanese spider crabs and they have (as the only museum in the world) frozen specimens of coelacanth. Very impressive. We had a great time and learned a lot!

If you are in the area, might as well. It's not too big but you will see lots of species you would rarely see otherwise. Might make you hungry for the fish market outside lol. The gift shop has some good stuff. The isopods give me the creeps in real form and plush form.
Andrew L — Google review
Even amongst the many aquariums in Japan, this is a unique one, though not that huge. Focused solely on deep sea creatures, it has many fascinating live specimens and it even display non deep sea affiliate of the deep sea specimens just so we can observe the difference. Of course the main highly is the frozen specimen at -20 degrees Celsius and incredibly has been frozen since the 80s as the only one in the world that is 100% original (not taxidermy).
Rtexal T — Google review
It is a very interesting museum. Rather small, but focusing on the deep sea which you dont have in other aquariums. We learned new things which was very fun. It is not a must see, but if you are in Mushimi or Numazu then your options on activities in the summer heat are limited and you will most probably enjoy it like we did 😀

This historical Buddhist temple, belonging to the Tenshu-Kimiyama Koyasan Shingon sect, houses several remarkable wooden statues. Among them is a national treasure Buddha statue created by the renowned artist Unkei. The temple also displays other exquisite wooden statues of Amida Nyorai, Fudo Myoo, and Bishamonten.

It was worth the visit just to be able to see the five Buddhist statues by Unkei, designated as national treasures. Due to the damage caused by war (the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate and Hideyoshi's Siege of Odawara), the building no longer contains anything from its original form, but the collection still contains many treasures. Above all, there are five National Treasure Buddhist statues made by Unkei. While there are many works that are said to be by Unkei, these five are one of the few that have been confirmed as "by Unkei." Each statue is impressive and well worth seeing. Hojoji Temple, a poignant site steeped in history, was established by Yoshitoki Hojo as a tribute to his young son Achiyo. This serene temple grounds also hold the graves of Yoshitoki and his wife on Mt. Koshiro, adding to its historical significance. Visitors can explore the main hall featuring a Kamakura period Buddhist statue and an exquisite embroidery cloth believed to have been donated by Masako Hojo.

After becoming regent, Hojo Yoshitoki banished the three retired emperors Gotoba, Juntoku, and Tsuchimikado in 1221 during the Jokyu Incident. He passed away at the age of 62 in the first year of Gennin. There is a grave of Mr. and Mrs. Yoshitoki Hojo on a hill called Mt. Koshiro in the temple grounds. Hojoji is a Zen Buddhist temple of the Rinzai sect, associated with the Kencho-ji school. It's steeped in the history of the Hojo clan, who played a crucial role in the Kamakura period as regents (rising from servants to leaders). The temple serves not only as a place of worship but also as a historical marker, reminding visitors of the era when the Hojo family wielded significant power in Japan.

(Translated by Google) After leaving Chotoku-ji Temple, it's about a 10-minute bike ride to Hojo-ji Temple. You enter from the street, but there are signs, so as long as you don't miss them, you'll get there easily. The nearest station is Nirayama Station. The guide says it's a 25-minute walk, but you'll want to allow an additional 5 minutes to cross the bridge. There is a bus from the station (get off at Ema bus stop), but it is infrequent (and only runs on weekdays), and the sightseeing bus has been discontinued. If you're walking, I recommend checking the timetable and taking the bus either on the way there or back. It's best to avoid it in the summer. This temple was built by Hojo Yoshitoki for his eldest son, who died at a young age. Hojo Yoshitoki was a member of a non-main branch of the Hojo family, and the remains of his residence are said to be around nearby Ema Park. (The regent position was in effect to exile the first regent, Tokimasa, so although Yoshitoki is listed as the second regent, it's fair to say that he was actually the first.) Izu's great river? Ema is on the west bank of the Kano River, and the main family residence is on the opposite bank. The main family temple and prayer hall are also located on the east bank of the river. For a while after the taiga drama aired, it seemed possible to pay an admission fee and view the temple treasures inside the main hall, but it's been two years since then, I think? Now, you can't enter the main hall and you have to worship from the outside. However, it seems to be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (no written notices allowed), so be careful if you're collecting goshuin stamps. The prefabricated hut to the left of the mountain gate serves as a gift shop (where amulets and other items are distributed) and has a call bell, but when you enter the temple grounds, a temple official came out and was waiting at the gift shop. There is also the grave of Yoshitoki and his wife, but since we had to pass through the cemetery, we informed the temple staff that we would be visiting before going to the grave. (Translated by Google) Arrive at Shiroike Shinsui Park in about 20 minutes on foot from Nirayama Station. If you are driving, you can park at the Egawa residence or the parking lot on the north side of Shinsui Park, and the entrance to the castle that leads to Sannomaru is right there. However, if you want to see the remains of Horikiri and other structures, we recommend walking from the station. To go to the castle ruins and water park on foot, just follow the information board. As you walk up the slope beside the junior high school, you will come to a cut-off that is closed to vehicles. Actually, this is Horikiri. After passing through Horikiri, you will arrive at Shiroike Shinsui Park. Furthermore, if you turn left according to the information board, you will soon see Horikiri on your left. If you go up the stairs further ahead, you will come across a Horikiri with a sign that says "Horikiri 3". If you go north along the mountainside, you will come to the Sannomaru castle entrance and the parking lot, so if you head directly from the parking lot, you will not be able to see these ruins. Additionally, there are ruins of a moat surrounding the east side of Sannomaru in the parking lot, but there are no information boards, so be careful not to overlook it. The slope leading from the castle entrance to Sannomaru bends to the right, making it look like a ``slope square''. Sannomaru is a tennis court. The top of the earthwork on the right after climbing the slope may be a turret platform. If you follow the information board, you will arrive at Gongen Kuruwa, where Kumano Shrine is located, at the end of the earthwork opening (toraguchi). You can also head here directly from the water park. It is surrounded by earthworks, and there is a shrine on the platform on the water park side. There may have been some kind of castle facility, as it has a large area. There is also a Horikiri between Gongen Kuruwa and Ninomaru. If you follow the road, you will reach Ninomaru. It is a large area surrounded by earthworks, so major facilities may have been located here. The earthworks on the north and south sides are widely leveled, and could they have been used as turrets? Between the Ninomaru and the Honmaru there is a trench and a buried earthen bridge. Climb the stairs at the end of the trench to reach the main enclosure, the highest point. It's a small place, but the view is good. It is said that you can also see Mt. Fuji from here. Nirayama High School at the foot of the mountain is the remains of a residence. The main entrance is near the main gate of the high school. The current castle ruins are small, but in the past it was a magnificent castle surrounded by double and triple moats. There are also forts built nearby, making it a wide-area group of forts centered around the main castle, and it's fun to imagine what it might have looked like in days gone by. In general, the earthworks and trenches are well preserved, but the signs and explanation boards are not very well maintained, so unless you have some prior knowledge, you won't be able to figure it out. It's a shame because I would have enjoyed it more if it had information about the excavation results and characteristics. One of the sacred places for Hojo fans. I hope they can improve it a little more.

Many branch castles and forts have been confirmed around Nirayama Castle, but due to time constraints, I was only able to visit Nirayama Castle. The area around Nirayama Castle appears to have once been a wetland. It seems that there was a water moat around that part. Nirayama Castle seems to have been a castle that combined the upper part of the mountain and the lower part of the castle, but now the water moat has been filled in and the lower part has become Nirayama High School. Some parts of the mountaintop area have been converted into tennis courts, etc., but the Honmaru, Ninomaru, Gongen Kuruwa, etc. retain their castle-like features. The main enclosure is not very large, but you can see Mt. Fuji up close. The earthworks of Ninomaru can be seen, and there is a moat and an earthen bridge between it and the main enclosure. To the south of the main enclosure, there is a small enclosure along the ridge, and the remains of a structure surrounded by a shoji moat-like earthwork called Shiozo can be seen. If Nirayama Castle were to be taken alone, only the mountaintop portion remains, and it is not very large. You might get a different impression if you tour it together with the surrounding branch castles. Nirayama Castle was developed as a base by Hojo Soun at the end of the 15th century. After Soun's death, the Hojo clan's headquarters moved to Odawara Castle, but Nirayama Castle was also an important base for the Hojo clan's control of Izu. Nirayama Castle is a famous castle that withstood Takeda Shingen's invasion of Suruga in 1570 without falling, and in 1590 when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Odawara, it was surrounded by 50,000 Toyotomi troops with 3,600 soldiers. After the war, it became a castle owned by Tokugawa Ieyasu, but was abandoned in 1601. It was the base of Hojo Soun (Ise Sozui), and after Ujitsuna, it became a castle on the border between the Imagawa, Takeda, and Tokugawa clans. When attacked by Toyotomi in 1590, it fought bravely for about three months, but was forced to surrender at the recommendation of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The castle's lord, Ujinori, was later pardoned. Ujinori, who was Ujinao's younger brother and Ujikuni's older brother, still tried to find a way to make peace, but in the end he decided to sequester himself in the castle. Ujinao was confined to Odawara Castle in Sagami, the main castle, Ujikuni to Hachigata Castle in Musashi, and Ujiki to Nirayama Castle in Izu, but the one who fought more bravely than anyone else was Ujiki, who was the most pacifist and sought a solution through diplomacy until the end. I knew about this background and had high expectations because the Hachigata Castle I had visited earlier was wonderful, but to be honest, it wasn't that great. First of all, it is not well preserved. From the medieval period to the early modern period, the Egawa family, which claimed to be descended from the Seiwa-Genji clan, had power in Nirayama. Following the Hojo clan and then the Tokugawa clan, they ruled an area of up to 100,000 koku as hereditary magistrates during the Edo period. In the Meiji era, the current Nirayama High School was established within the ruins of Nirayama Castle under the initiative of the Egawa family. The castle ruins were sold off and turned into public facilities and private homes. If you head towards Nirayama Castle from the nearest station, Nirayama Station, you will pass Nirayama High School and private houses, so you will need to go around to Shiroike Water Park on the other side. Most of the castle ruins are privately owned and are not open to the public.Although the area around the main enclosure that is open to the public retains its curved shape, there are no visible remnants of the strong fortress that lasted for three months despite the large army of the Toyotomi clan. However, there are plenty of attractions nearby, such as the Egawa Family Residence (Ruins of the Nirayama Magistrate's Office), a National Important Cultural Property, the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace Ruins, a Japanese Heritage Site, and Ganjoju-in Temple, which houses the National Treasure Unkei Buddha, making it a convenient place to stop by. Sannomiya Ohito Shrine, located near Ohito Station, offers a unique experience. As you approach the shrine, you'll notice a distinctive hand wash feature - a chozubizu adorned with a fish-shaped spout that dispenses water. This rare sight adds to the shrine's charm. After climbing the stairs and visiting the shrine office, one can explore the beautiful plum grove situated behind it.

For this reason, many ayu enthusiasts live in this area, some of whom have become professionals. The first Ayu professional turned out to be one of the parishioners of this shrine and a close friend of the chief priest. With that person's advice, we decided to turn this place into an ayu fishing shrine, and the water outlet of the watering hole was shaped like a sweetfish, and the amulets were adorned with sweetfish, making it a sacred place for ayu lovers. Afterwards, the company was enshrined with Hachiman Shrine, which was founded in 1640, and changed its name to its current name in 1909. It's a very busy shrine. The pork bowl seems to be the highlight, so be sure to try it. The service was also very attentive and friendly. Since this was my first time climbing the course, it took about an hour to climb up and 33 minutes and 58 seconds to descend. For reference, I will post the Apple Watch data from Shimoyama. The distance is about 2 km. There are many insects in the summer, so we recommend wearing a hat that covers your ears and the back of your neck. I thought I'd see people climbing, but I wonder if there's anyone doing it in the summer because it's dangerous when exposed to direct sunlight. I would like to visit you again when it gets colder. Thank you to everyone who maintains the mountain 🙏🙇‍♂️ I was happy to see crabs on the way 💕 (Original)

Nestled in the picturesque Izu highlands, Izunirayama Country Club offers a delightful golfing experience that combines stunning views and well-maintained facilities. On my recent visit, we were fortunate to enjoy sunny weather, which contrasted sharply with a previous foggy outing. Jofukuji, also known as Seifukuji Temple, is a historic Buddhist temple with strong ties to the Hojo family in Japan. It is believed to have been originally established by Taira Tokiie during the Heian period and later became the family temple of the Hojo clan. The temple's history is intertwined with prominent figures such as Hojo Masamune and Hojo Tokimune, who played significant roles in Japanese history.

Additionally, within the grounds are the graves of his father Tokimune Hojo, his wife Kakuzanni, and Masamune. It was also the Buddhist temple of Tokimasa Hojo (father of the first regent Yoshitoki Hojo), and later became the family temple of the Hojo clan. Therefore, there is a memorial tower for the Hojo clan on the north side of the main hall. Seifukuji Temple was also part of the residence of the nearby Hojo residence, and Seifukuji is said to be the villa built by Tokimasa Hojo as a new residence for Minamoto no Yoritomo and Masako Hojo. In terms of location, if you go east from Seifuku-ji Temple, you will reach Hiruga Kojima, the place where the temple was located. If you go west, you will reach the site of the residence of Yoshitoki Hojo (Koshiro Ema). In Hirugajima Park, there is a bronze statue called ``The Couple of Hirugajima'' that depicts Minamoto no Yoritomo and Masako Hojo cuddling, and it feels strange to think that they actually lived here. Masako's younger brother Yoshitoki Hojo was also a neighbor. (Translated by Google) I visited Seifukuji Temple in Nirayama, Izunokuni. First, if we look into the history, Hojo Masamune, the third son of Hojo Tokimune, the eighth regent of the Kamakura shogunate, built Ichiu based on Hojo Tokimasa's Buddhist temple in Hojo Village, Izu, the birthplace of the Hojo clan. It is said that it became a temple. Also, since Masamune received teachings from Nyoshin Shonin, Seifuku-ji Temple seems to have remained a Jodo Shinshu temple to this day, maintaining the bloodline of the regent Hojo clan. Even under the rule of the Odawara Hojo clan, the bloodline of the regent Hojo clan was maintained, and this Jofukuji Temple, which is the family temple of the regent Hojo clan, was relocated to Shinshu temples in other areas. I felt that they were not able to take measures that would force them to convert or close down the temple. However, it seems that Seifuku-ji Temple was also influenced by the Odawara Hojo clan's ban on Christianity. As a temple with such a long history, it was an important temple that functioned as a contact point for the Odawara Hojo clan, along with Zenpukuji Temple in Azabu. I wanted to visit a temple related to the regent Hojo clan, so I told them that I would like to visit and visited on the day. On the day of the trip, take the Shinkansen to Mishima Station, and from Mishima Station, take the Izu Hakone Railway Sunzu Line, get off at Nirayama Station, and walk for about 15 minutes to reach the temple. There are no tall buildings around the temple, and the contrast between the temple that can be seen from the front gate and the white clouds waving in the clear sky is beautiful. The grounds are also well-maintained, and there are about 200 types of Seifukuji specialties. The beautiful lotus flowers are in full bloom at this time of year. The chief priest was waiting for us at the time we had announced in advance, and after greeting him, we went to the main hall and visited the principal image. (The chief priest was a very warm and kind person.) After that, he explained about the history of the temple and talked about many other things, especially the thoughts of remorse and regret that come up in my daily life, and explained them in an easy-to-understand manner by comparing them to the teachings of Shinshu Buddhism. I learned a lot. (I also felt like I was able to warn myself of my tendency to become complacent.) I was also given a fine red stamp with the Hojo family crest (three scales on an equilateral triangle), and I was grateful for the kindness shown to me since I had come from far away. I didn't reach the summit this time. (Original) 23.3.28訪問 桜が綺麗でした。駐車場も混んでいます。昔の桜のトンネルを知る者としては少し物足りないですが。 今回は登頂しませんでした。

The parking lot opens at 09:00 and closes at 17:00. I haven't seen Kuro-chan lately, but I've seen Shiro-chan instead. (Translated by Google) The observation deck at the top of the mountain feels like a hideout. My lower back wasn't feeling very well, so after staying at Nagaoka Onsen, I decided to try walking instead of Mt. Hatanjo, and it turned out to be a great decision. Moreover, it is reserved (Original) まさに山頂の展望台は隠れ家気分。腰の調子が今ひとつだったので長岡温泉泊後に発端丈山の代わりに歩こうとしたら大正解でした。しかも貸切
