The tempura chicken and spicy mapo tofu are soooo good. Get a large size rice to go with the mapo, We used 2 mediums to finish the mapo. Walked in on Tuesday evening and no wait. Service was quick, and food was good!

A tourist-friendly place with staff who speak English fluently. However, the toriten was disappointing, not crispy and the batter lacked flavor. The dumpling soup tasted like instant packet soup, and the dumpling dough was mushy. On the brighter side, the tenshin han and stir-fried pork were delicious and well-prepared.

Somehow i feel the toriten taste in grill mitsuba is better but in here there many variety of chinesse food so made the variation is merrier

The yuzu tempura chicken is really good! The batter was light and chicken is tender and flavourful. Mapo tofu and fried rice were also good 👍🏻. Would recommend heading there slightly before 11am. Tip for walk in: ignore the queue/crowd outside and head inside to write your name on the list.

My aunt recommended here because she heard this restaurant’s Toriten is so good. We went to there without booking around 20:00 and there was a loooong line. Maybe waited about 40-50 minutes. We ordered 1800 yen Toriten ,Mapo tofu set with desert and it was nice and seems very reasonable price for it, too. However I was not that hungry so could not finish everything and asked them to put them into the container for take away. One of the staff boy seems like got used with with busy store situation and not friendly at all and even seems like any short conversation with customers are not welcomed. I understand the restaurant is busy so they sell food but don’t sell smiles. They also sell the “ kabosu vinegar “ which tastes very good I wanted to buy it but it was little bit over sized and gave up. My friends were very happy in here and one of them are from local so pretty sure she will come back to here again :)

It was ok chinese food. I think its a bit overrated. I didn’t really feel it to be that special. I would recommend the yuzu toriten compared to the normal one. The fried rice was ok, kinda like a home cooked fried rice style. Shouu based fukuhiro soup (well dont think its real sharks fin) is abit saltier than expected but was good. Dim sum is ok nothing amazing but good for the price. Overall I think the toriten would have been better with a crispier batter. I wouldn’t line up 40 mins again for this.

What I like the most is the friendliness of the server to cater tourist like me. Fried Chicken are nice, same goes to their Tamago Soup(must order dish, if you're egg person. Mapo Tofu also not bad when you have it at Japanese Restaurant. Come maybe later than 8pm, will avoid the queue. Plenty of carpark lot outside the restaurant. Last order at 9pm.

Awesome unique experience. Glad i was there with few people, so when i arrived i was able.to order immediately. To my rush, i ordered a meal for 2 :( Steamed foods are fresh and taste good. My only critique is that eventhough i don't order meal with shrimp. It tasted and smells like shrimp. But overall i had fun experience here

Food was ok but the waiting time was long. First, you get a queue number. Then you order you food on the ticket machine. And you wait for you queue to be called. While purchasing the food, you need to purchase the mandatory basket for steaming 🤔. When your number is called, you present your food tickets and collect your food. Then proceed to the steam counters to have your food steam for 15 mins. Limited parking lots available and there isn't any paid parking nearby. For the novelty of steaming your own food, ok la. Otherwise, there's better food options around the area. 😉

Came on Sunday and parking was difficult. We made many turns and finally saw some people leaving the parking. We had to take a number which is 90mins wait. With that, we can order our meals and wait for our turn to collect food for steaming. I find the food alright. Prawns seemed over cooked.

Enjoyed this place where you can steam your own food with the geothermal steam from the hot spring. Just purchase the meal coupons (I ordered set 2 and 17) and a ¥40 steaming fee coupon from the vending machine and get a number from the reception. When your number is called, pass your meal coupons to the counter and they will prepare the ingredients for you. It’s free-seating so after securing your seat, you bring your tray of ingredients to the steaming area according to the number on the timer provided. There, the staff will guide you through the process of wearing thick gloves and steaming your food for about 15 mins. They provide salt and ponzu as complimentary condiments but if you prefer other condiments like sesame sauce, you’ll need to add additional ¥200 per sauce.

Love the steamed food here despite expecting the place to be gimmicky & mid, experience is definitely fun & interesting for visitors. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to try their cheese fondue (16)!

It’s still makes for a relatively good meal, esp. for newcomers. But as someone who had lived in the city a long time ago, I personally felt that the quality had gone down a bit. Prices remain competitive and so it welcomes quite a few people - families and foreigners, especially.

What a lovely place for lunch! And it’s near the seaside so you can have a scroll after a nice meal. Their sashimi rice is amazing and very reasonably priced. Plenty of parking spaces too making it easily accessible.

Tokujo tendon tokumori (3pcs) is really delicious. The tendon is fried to perfection and the ebi is fresh too. The batter has a nice unique taste to it, just can’t figure out what it is.

Fresh as it can get for sashmi, especially otoro (fatty tuna). The tendon was well portioned and tasty. Highly recommend adding a few extra pieces of ebi, can eat that for days.

I went here in June 2025, the food was amazing and very consistent, I got a Toyostune Gozen which is a very big meal set with some interesting side dishes. There was a queue so I waited 15-20mins.

Arrived at 13:00 on a Tuesday and only had to wait for about 5 minutes before being seated. You are told when you are seated you can only make 1 order so it seems that the focus is a quick turnover which doesn't feel that welcoming. The food is high quality. We tried the cold noodles, hot noodles and spare ribs. The cold noodles had great bite and were really springy. The broth for the noodles is deep but clear and has a clear taste of sesame oil as well which lifts it. The spare ribs easily fall off the bone and have been cooked so long that you can bit through the bone. Although it looks burnt the charred texture and the sweetness of the ribs is a good match, especially when you dunk it in the soup. Well worth a visit.

Had a pork rib soba ramen. Not sure if the broth and a pork burnt ends over rice with sauce. Both were so good, rich, complex flavors. I would eat here 1-2x per week if it was local.

Excellent bowl of cold noodles cooked to Beppu style. I had this after a visit to a public bath and the feeling was great. I ordered the barbecued spare ribs which was cooked so well that the bone can be pulled off cleanly from the meat.

Staying in Beppu for the week end we really wanted to try the famous local Cold Noodles (Reimen) and Rokusei was recommended on some blog. We read there is usually waiting time but we came at 7pm on a rainy Friday and we had no wait, there were multiple times open. We both took the Kikurage Reimen and some spare ribs. The ribs were very tasty! The noodles were very good, some chewiness to it which adds some nice texture to the dish. The ingredients were very good but thought the broth itself lacked some depth - tasted not much more exciting than a boxed-broth unfortunately. I still recommend it though.

Personal favorite ramen place in Beppu! The ramen typically uses a miso base and the チャシュウラメン is always great. They even have one with a spare rib side!

If you could use a break from the Japanese washoku meals at the ryokans in the area, the Korean-style reimen here won't be a bad option. It's a really small, hole-in-the-wall shop, but these cold, al dente textured noodles of their's is refreshing in the summer.

Had lunch at this cozy, family-run restaurant, and it was such a warm experience. Everything was prepared fresh and served promptly—definitely one of the must-try spots in Beppu! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, generously cut, and beautifully plated. The toriten was also excellent—one of the best I’ve had in Beppu. While the portions are slightly on the smaller side and the prices a bit high, the quality makes it very worth it. The service was friendly, patient, and attentive. They gave helpful recommendations and didn’t rush us at all while we ordered. Highly recommended!

A small family run traditional Japanese restaurant with good quality of food overall. We ordered the sushi set (chef special) and a sushi platter. The sashimi is fresh and yummy. Service is good too they have English speaking waitress. Highly recommended.

Very cute restaurant, but the toriten was the only good dish. We ordered the 3900yen course that had a bit of everything. The shrimp was overcooked, the sashimi was mediocre. But the toriten was SO good. And the chefs are very nice and friendly. Atmosphere was great.

Very nice restaurant and excellent meat quality. I went with my wife who has lots of allergies and the english speaking waitress was super helpful and understanding. The portion is too small. Niku was cut into very thin pieces. One star for the chief’s knife skill for the meat sheet.

We got our hotel reception to assist us with reservations on the day itself for 7pm. When we reached, there were groups outside but were turned away as the establishment was fully booked for the day (weekday). Service level very high - fast, polite, patient, good with English. Meat was really really good. Ordered more as we went along because we couldn't get enough. Price is more than fair. Seats were comfortable, grill temperature set was perfect, no need to adjust. This is a must-visit yakiniku. Better than the stuff in Fukuoka which is more expensive.

Be prepared to wait as the restaurant only has 6 tables. They do accept reservations. We ordered the wagyu beef assortment. The beef is not expensive and taste great. Must order the beef fat fried rice. We ordered 1 and it was gone in no time, so we ordered a 2nd serving. It’s that good! The Smokey smell was controlled well. I didn’t come out of the restaurant smelling of bbq.

The yakiniku not as good as the few we have in Japan recently. We order platter and ala carte, all didn't give wow experience. I will say just normal but still good quality compare to overseas waygu. We ordered pork belly as well, tough.

Wow ! What a restaurant ! The waitress was a trainee and she was absolutely perfect. She was extremely careful, kind and smiling. She made the whole experience fantastic. The meat was tender and tasty. The vegetables were absolutely delicious. It allowed my husband to eat his meat and me, as a vegan to eat veggie and rice which were really well prepared. Be sure to book in advance though as there are only 6 tables.

Came here late after arriving to Beppu. Not much English is spoken, but they do have an English menu. I'm giving this 5 stars because the meal was about ¥5000 pp with drinks and we left full. Meat was good quality. Not top shelf, but cost performance this gets 5 ⭐

The kids (15 & 13) had so much fun in the park. Quite a variety of rides with a few ones that were pretty wild. They convinced me to go on the wooden roller coaster called Jupiter and it was crazy fast with so many twists and turns I think I need a chiropractor after that. They loved it, I just couldn’t wait for it to be over. Only downside is that it’s a bit expensive. We went to the hells of Beppu in the morning so only had part of the afternoon there and it was $5,500 per person. No discount for later arrival.

Spent the whole day with my 8 year old and 10 year old, and still haven't had enough. Suitable for kids from elementary school and onwards: laser maze, VR rides, horror house, various types of roller coasters, pirate ship, pendulum rides, ferris wheel, carousel, drop towers, indoor obstacle course... full day pass highly recommended!

An almost abandoned fun land that still feels welcoming and charming. Feels very local but has an international appeal, as it is home to one of the largest wooden coasters in the world. It’s a family place and well worth the visit for an authentic Japan experience.

Worth to spend your day here : I went on a Thursday and it was empty. The rides are equivalent standards to the more populated ones like Disney or Universal Studios but without the crowd. No queue for all the rides we wanted to do- we did 20 rides altogether in the 5 hrs we were there versus ~5 if lucky if at the crowded ones at Tokyo or Osaka . Cost only 1/3 ~1/2 the cost . Time and money well spend

would be better if they were opened earlier at 9am, however i like that they start ride even though there may only be 1-2 pax. most rides have friendly staff! (except a few) went on 23sep and there were barely any autumn foliage yet

This park is not that bad in general, lots of the activities there are really enjoyable. Theres not much people there if its not in the weekends too. Most of the staff looks happy doing there jobs, but not all of them. So heres my advice: 1. Buy the activity pass. This pass allows you to ride and play most of the activities. (Not all but most of the activities.) You can repeat most of the activities too, so its rlly nice in general. 2. Repeat lots of the activities you like. This park doesnt have lots of variety of activities, so maybe try as much as activities first and repeat the activities you liked the most. 3. Jupiter (the tree roller coaster) This really hurt my back and my neck, and i expected more from this. The seating of this roller coaster is horrible. The shaking is unfortunately really bad, and i thought i was going to pass out. Overall a horrible experience.

Experience is never-ending, this place is foreign-tourist friendly (based on my experience), some staff able to explain how to play in english. Heartwarming, good food, affordable free pass. If I have any chance I would like to go again. The most memorable ride was the wooden rollercoaster jupiter and the newton drop 🎢

This restaurant was our 2nd option, but we were glad we came here instead of our 1st choice. The dango soup with chicken tempura set was really delicious. I don't fancy chicken breast, but their chicken breast tempura was moist and fragrant. The duck porridge burst in flavours, such look very unassuming indeed. Please do not leave this place without eating the dessert! Mind blowing good!

I was recommended by my hostel host to go here and it did not disappoint! I was very hungry so managed to try some of their specialties including the pudding. Too bad the chocolate pudding ran out 😭 Thoroughly enjoyed eating my meals here and the staff was very helpful giving me advice even though we both had language barriers. A satisfying meal all round! The dango soup felt homely on a rainy day. And the tempura chicken was not too heavy. Surprisingly, the standout dish for me was the red bean soup. The sweetness of the red bean was balanced out by the bitterness of the grilled mochi and the sourness of the plums.

Super cute shop. The in-house curry is amazing. Dango soup is great as well.. But the Manju…. OMG THE MANJUUUU IF YOU DON’T EAT ANYTHING ELSE, EAT THE MANJU! Many parking spot for cars. We tried dangojiru with chicken tenjin set. It was so delicious! It’s a busy traditional restaurant but we got our meal quite fast. Staff was nice as well.

It is OK food at a higher than average price. There are too many Chinese and Korean tourists, there was a long wait and they are very loud. Many items are sold out or are lunch only so before you order make sure you have a backup item so it is not awkward when staff take your order. The staff are fairly understanding if you don't speak Japanese, likely because of the amount of foreigners eating there. The sashimi was good but there is more decorations than food. The roast beef was very mediocre, ordered on a whim because the main dish I wanted was out of stock. The tempura has a nice char but felt overcooked. Still good though. It is neither super tasty or disgusting. Just good OK level food. The water cup they give you is tiny, maybe three sips. Feels like fancy restaurant. Beware they close between 2 and 5, we tried to come in at 3 for a late lunch and they were closed. Their supposed most famous items are the shrimp tempura bowl and the chicken tempura. The chicken tempura was so dry, it was very hard to eat. They used the breast meat which has no moisture.

I love anago and was quite disappointed. The eel meat should be naturally sweet, coming through a mild tempura batter, with a deep savory dipping sauce. Whilst the tempura batter was mild so was the eel and so was the sauce, leading to a very middle of the road anago tempura. We also ordered the tempura set and the chicken fried rice, all of which was also very mild and safe. Perhaps Beppu flavourful a milder due to all the steam cooking? But for me the meal lacked complexity.

It's not on the menu but you can ask for it. This branch is much quieter than the main branch. But avoid lunch hour(s) if you don't like to wait.

Among all the dishes we ordered I would highly recommend to have the Shrimp Tempura Set as well as the creamy clams. The sashimi is also very fresh and well seasoned as an appetizer. The steak, however, was quite chewy and I did not quite enjoy the texture. Overall this restaurant surprisingly offers a diversed menu; when compared to other restaurants which normally only offer 1 or 2 famous dishes.

Quite worth it tempura don they give quite a lot for a good price to fill you up. The tempura is crispy but the ones stacked at the bottom were not crispy but soggy due to sauce. The anago I find it a bit more bland so it needs sauce The wagyu beef hotplate was so good! The beef melts in your mouth and it’s so tender. The crust is good too and using the beef juice you can make your onions more flavourful 🥩 Aside from that the sashimi was really fresh the octopus had a nice chew. Highly recommend this place for an affordable and delicious tempura bowl.

Down a ting side alley - we arrived at 5.20pm & there was a queue. The lady came out & asked us, how many - after that they had sold out - so lucky we just got in. They've been making gyoza since 1947 !! Small, neat parcels - super tasty, with a crispy base. Lovely lady that served us. Definitely recommend - but get here early to avoid being turned away.

It is good as always. Gyoza skin is super crispy and goes well with beef. The restaurant has very homey and local ambience. There are only 6 seats so you may have to wait outside of the store. The meal was 1200 yen in total (600 for the gyoza and 600 for the beer)

Is a very small shop with a maximum of 6 pax at a time. We are very lucky to get a seat without any waiting. When we leaving could see a queue outside the shop. The Gyoza is small, and each of us could easily eat more than 15 pcs. The price is also very reasonable, 600¥ for 15 pcs. The seasoning is very good and the meat is very soft. Could taste some kind of Chinese wine, and the skin used is also equally soft & thin. Strongly recommend trying.

Gyoza restaurant in an alley. Only 7 seats I think? The gyoza is the best I ever had. The line will take a while and they can run out. When u order you most likely will not be able to order more, so when you order make sure you order what you want.

On a cold afternoon in Beppu, we decided to have some pasta for lunch. This particular restaurant looks nice from the outside and feels comfortable too when you enter. Get a table number from the machine at the entrance and proceed to order at your table. We had the black squid ink and the Dori fish. Both were marvellous. Squid ink was tasty and full of flavour. Better than a lot I've tried. The fish was also delicious. Hot Soup was on the house. Can have it as much as you want. Service was great too. Waitress brought you food quickly and efficiently. Ordering, payment, service, waiting, etc were all easy n smooth. Ambience here was appropriate. Located in the upper 2nd level, this restaurant had a slight carnival feel to it. Bright and clean. Prices were slightly on the high side as compared to Saizaryia. As for parking, we rode our bicycles here, so it was fairly easy. I would surely visit again in future if given a chance. The menu still had lots of stuff to explore for me.

The salad 604 is a failure. Seems healthy. The salad smells something weird. Like if it had been washed with some bleached water. The overall is way too salty. The vinaigrette is unbalanced toward the vinegar. Pasta 700... pastas are clearly not fresh. It is made from hard pasta. The sauce is a desaster. Too salty. It tastes artificial and fishy. I would eaten better in a 7e

Waiting times and service are catastrophic. The waitresses don't come to see you unless you like to be called out. We waited over an hour for two pizzas that never arrived, which weren't even tossed. A pizza that's supposed to take less than five minutes to cook is a total disgrace. Run away from this establishment.

Definitely a pizza and pasta family restaurant, with the usual suspects on the menu. Drinks bar option (non alcoholic all you can drink) for your 350 Yen. Average quality food, kitschy decor, not cheap, but overall, a defendable option here in Japan for a quick goto nothing fancy quasi Italian option.

Food was reasonable ( 100yen for some of the sushi) and affordable. Service was good since most of the staff cant speak english but they had tried best to help us to order. Good place to visit.

I don’t know why this place has such bad reviews. The sushi was delicious, the steamed egg and desserts were also superb. The place was super well-staffed and service was blazing fast. There was no queue and many seats available on a Sunday afternoon. You can get sushi from the conveyor belt or order on the tablet, which is available in multiple languages. Best of all we had 20 plates of sushi for just over ¥4000!

We went here as the sushi restaurant we intended to go was closed. Despite the shop was friendly , inexpensive , the quality is really not satisfactory. But if you just want easy neighborhood sushi then you may still give it a try

Terrible Service – Rude and Unhelpful Staff I had a very disappointing experience here. The front desk staff didn’t greet me at all. Since I don’t speak Japanese, I asked in English if I needed to wait for a table. The staff just looked confused, tilted her head, and said “hmm?” without trying to communicate or find someone to help. Later, what seemed like a manager arrived, but both of them just whispered to each other without assisting me. I even used Google Translate to ask my question, but they still just stared at me without answering. I felt ignored and disrespected. Even if they don’t speak English, basic customer service should be expected. Would not recommend.

Better to reserved as early as you can, so you'll not going to wait for a long time. When we visited last January 2 at 6pm the place was fully occupied so we waited after 11 guest reserved before Us, it was luckily that we stayed in Nishitetsu hotel just outside the Yakiniku place. And we waited in our place to receive a message from the staff. And as we had our seat we waited again for about 10 mins Before the meat serve in our table Due to demand the service was a bit slow. 😅

This BBQ restaurant was so awesome! The staff struggled a bit with English and explaining how it worked but we got there in the end. That's not their fault - we also don't speak Japanese very well! We got "all you can eat" and then you simply order the dishes and drinks you want from the tablet (which can be switched to English) before the time runs out. It was more expensive than many of our meals have been but boy did we get our money's worth! The menu includes meat, vegetables, dessert and drinks. We were delighted to see the robot waiter doing the rounds, and had heaps of fun BBQing our own food. While we had a short wait to get in, there is a playground for the kids so it was no hassle to wait.

I went for a lunchtime meal once and then dinner recently. The service is a bit slow. I recommend the bungo beef plate. It was about 2,000yen. I tried their new menu item of kalbi ribs but I was underwhelmed. Now that the December campaign is over, you're better off investing in the beef dish! I like Sagagyu, but Bungogyu is nice too. My friend enjoyed the bibimbap and oxtail soup. The oxtail was really tender but the broth was too simple for my tastes.

The seafood pancake cost 900 yen, but it looks not good. I was very disappointed. Hope this doesn't happen again.

Stopped by this cosy cafe on the way back from the hells. Heated tablecloths so it’s all warm during the colder months. Self service tea available, and you have to remove your shoes upon entering. There’s also a small section for souvenirs. We ordered a lunch set and a dessert set, as the owner (who can’t really speak english) said we have to order minimum 1 set each. Lunch was delicious with the creamy stew and steamed fish so tender, however we did not finish it as we already had lunch- we initially only wanted teas and cakes as our afternoon tea. Desserts were good, not exceptionally sweet. Tofu was really good as well. Basically everything was perfect, except the wait time. We were the only customers waiting for food in the afternoon but waited 50mins for the food to arrive. We weren’t in a rush, so we didn’t bother the staffs but that’s something to consider when you decide to dine in at this place. Also, tax on top of the price. Oh they don’t have a menu as well, so whatever the staff tells you, you have to get it.

Wholesome homemade food 🍲 the place is very cozy and seems popular since had multiple reservations so we were lucky to get in! They have a set menu which was amazing and they even helped create a unique vegan set menu! Excellent service all around 👌

Absolutely delightful little lunch café with a unique aesthetic that is very cozy and comfortable. The tables have heated blankets that make you want to sit for hours on a rainy afternoon. The owners are very kind and they make an amazing set lunch. It's just one set meal each day consisting of 1 or 2 main dishes and a couple of side dishes. Everything I had when I was there tasted super fresh, healthy, and delicious. There's also various teas and coffees to help yourself to as you like. It was a lovely and wholesome experience that I definitely recommend if you're in the area.

My family and I had a lovely time at Kokochi Cafe Musubino. We had just gone to an onsen and were looking for a warm drink and cake afterwards. As soon as we walked into the cafe, we knew we had found a wonderful place. The ambience is delightful and they had gentle jazz playing that went perfectly with the space to set just the right atmosphere. The two people who run the cafe are so kind and friendly. The drinks and cake were yummy as well. I would definitely like to return to try their lunch food, which smelled delicious. I would also like to return to spend time reading or working there just to soak up the great atmosphere. I definitely recommend Kokochi Cafe Musubino cafe!

Absolutely amazing little japanese restaurant. The unique set menu was wonderful, home made and tasty, probably worth much more than what they are charging currently. They even have some craft beer (not local ones unfortunately). A hidden gem close to all the “hells of Beppu”. + amazing home made cakes (took a photo this time!)

Really authentic soba restaurant served by a cute uncle and auntie. The hot duck soba was delicious and hearty, loved the citrus peel that made it so fragrant. The Sakura ebi tempura was special and extra crispy and tasty. Incredibly delicious handmade soba noodles! Definitely must visit early because there are only 8-10 seats inside!

A rustic soba shop. Their soba is not the typical soba which is brownish but it here it was more white. But the taste was still good. Although they only have Japanese menu they have a booklet with pictures.

This restaurant made me feel like a premium guest. This is a restaurant with the best service. The manager of this restaurant, the guy with specs is a very friendly person, he welcomed every guests with warmth. The atmosphere of this restaurant is really classy, food is nice as well. The steak is very nice. Juicy meat with Japanese sauce. He gave me a free chocolate drink and made me a bear shaped balloon in the end. Came here for the second time, the omelette rice and caramel nuts brulee is superb. I noticed some kids received a free toy as well. This restaurant is perfect. I had a good memory here. Thanks to the manager, cook and waiters.

Breakfast and lunch at Royal Host Beppukitahama (ロイヤルホスト別府北浜店) were both delicious and beautifully served. The food was fresh, tasty, and perfect for starting the day or enjoying a relaxed midday meal. The service was exceptionally kind and attentive – especially the gentleman who made amazing balloon creations for the kids, which absolutely made their day! Such a warm and welcoming place – highly recommended for families.

We had breakfast here! It’s a good place to have breakfast before starting your day in Beppu. 🍛 Best menu for us is the curry! The spiciness and overall taste is very good. The breakfast set is okay. 🚗The have free parking but need to ask for the coupon from the waitress when you check bill.

A few steps away from our hotel, we went there at 19:45 for our late supper. Ordered grilled chicken ¥1298 plus R Set including soup, rice & drink bar (refill) ¥946, hayashi omelette rice ¥1188 plus Mini Dessert Set of coffee jelly or mini cake ¥198. Happy with the qualities of food and services that they provided.

The food was amazing, and the nice view of the beach is wonderful. The real star of this restaurant is the staff and Mr. Inoue Kimio. He came over to our table and took a picture of us, and he was making balloons for the kids in the restaurant. A real star of the show!

Been here for several times and every time I visit, felt the same hospitality even though they are running with limited staff. Specially love the warm service of the Manager. The Mochigahama site tends to be busy because it's popular with the college students. It's a clean and convenient location. I recommend trying the current limited menu item, Spicy Double Cheeseburger, if you enjoy jalapenos!

I ordered the Reimen and toriten set. The noodles had a really nice chew to them, the meat at first looked a bit dry but it was flavourful and not dry. The soup had a mild and deep taste so that you could keep on drinking.. With the addition of yuzu kosho it really changed the taste of the soup to a bright and a bit spicy taste. And the toriten was hot crispy and very juicy. I want to order one more set but I was already full. I will definitely return

Restaurant was busy but diners ate and went very quickly. Staff was efficient and there was just 4 items on the menu, with and without toriten (chicken tempura). The normal reimen (cold noodles) had kimchi in it and the veggie reimen's soup was refreshing. You also get a kabosu kosho to add in your soup after trying the noodle on its own.

In my opinion this restaurant’s reimen stands out because of its yuzukosho, once putting it in the soup, the soup changes entirely. Highly recommend the yuzukosho with the soup. Toriten wasn’t that good though in my opinion.

The noodle had a very good texture but was dissatisfied with the kimchi as it overpowered the soup, beppu reimen should have fermented cabbage kimchi instead of napa cabbage.

The texture of the noodle was slightly too hard. The portio of the meat was small. Overall it is not value fir money. The Ramien Santan was much much better in value and taste.

This restaurant offers a meal specific to this region. It was very tasty and unique. The noodles had a unique texture, unlike those of ramen or soba, but all in there own. I really enjoyed them. If we had more time in Beppu I would have enjoyed trying this kind of dish again!

My friend and I had dinner at Yusha Halal Restaurant in Beppu, and it was an incredible experience! The food was absolutely delicious, rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The host was extremely polite, warm, and welcoming, making the atmosphere even more inviting, despite us coming in late 😋. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for halal food in Beppu. I highly recommend it and will definitely return whenever I’m in the area.

Had the chicken curry lunch special (1550¥). The curry was flavorful, the herbs on the naan made it quite fragrant (didn't really translate to any changes in taste imo), the salad dressing was good, and the mango lassi (first time) tasted like liquid mango pudding. Solid meal but wasn't very filling.

1st time: So tasty! Very friendly and attentive! We were there at lunch time. We will be back soon. Highly recommended! 2nd time: Visited Yusha again for dinner. This time we had palak paneer (an amazing vegetarian dish), butter chicken masala & cheese naan. Delicious!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Sushinoya. The food was exquisite! The chef was so friendly, as were the customers next to us. We speak no Japanese and were happy that the wait staff spoke enough for us to place our order! I saw a review that the miso soup took time to arrive, and the same happened with us, but I think it’s because they prepare it fresh each time it’s ordered. It was the best miso we’ve ever had and was worth the wait. Everything was top notch. The prices were great too. Anything of similar quality in the US would cost double or triple what we paid. It was the best money we spent on a meal in Beppu. I don’t even like sushi and I ate it happily last night!!

The sushi food was good but I think the manner to treat foreigners are so bad. The miso soup was delivered so late. It took 40 min after the sushi came out to us. They didn't say SORRY at all. So I asked that I would leave but they said the soup was ready to us but they charged to us also it was so late. I dunno about the taste of foods well but I felt so so so angry on their attitude to foreigners so I think they ignored us. I will not recommend this sushi thing to my friends. They made me feel bad on Beppu trip. Except this sushi, beppu trip was so nice. They explained only in Japanese. And they said never sorry to use. Even they knew what they did. It is very arrogant attitude to customers I think.

We had dinner here and was pleasantly surprised that the 2 younger waitresses could speak great conversational English. The 2 chefs were absolutely kind and tried their best to communicate with us. It was such a lovely experience, the food was very fresh and everything was delicious. I highly recommend this place. The pace is a little slower than normal but Beppu is a very relaxing town so it was nice to slow down and enjoy the food. I look forward to visiting again during my next trip to Beppu. Parking note: it’s inside a small alley so please park at parking lots closeby the shop.

We didn’t know what it was until we visited Kyushu and apparently, it’s a restaurant known only within Kyushu area . It’s a casual family-friendly restaurant (fami-res). We were travelling all over Kyushu for the holidays so we wanted to try it. It’s a decent restaurant very well priced with good portion servings, relatively large compared to the normal Japanese food serving. No English menu but its all photos which makes it easier but some things aren’t immediately apparent as to what they are (like what kind of meat it is) drink situation is somewhat confusing, there’s an area you go to and just select which drink you want so we selected what we thought was green tea, only to find out it’s actually seaweed broth =D. It was a good experience but the food is average.

I was in June 2025, I could order a pizza with a half of one type and the other half another type, which was nice. I got a large pizza (apparently for 2 people) and ate it alone so it wasn't that big. The pizza was very tasty and I appreciated that they provide a wide variety of sauces, both spicy and not that spicy (be careful with the very spicy ones).

Absolutely fabulous pizza- great base, toppings were well balanced. We got a large between the two of us and as we were hungry we finished out off. Limited choice of drinks but not a worry for us. Service was incredibly friendly. Well priced.

We didn’t have a reservation when we showed up just after their 6pm opening time, so it was the standing room only spot that we got which was just fine. We asked for an English menu which they had and it was nicely illustrated with photos of the dishes and provided a short description as well. We had ordered the special fish platter, fried burdock, bungo beef skewers, and grilled chicken neck to pair with 180ml of sake. The restaurant was quickly filling up with the guests that had reservations and we were soon joined at our standing room only table by another couple. Our food rolled in quickly and each dish was elegantly presented and tasted absolutely delicious. While the beef was awesome, the highlight for me was the chicken neck - I wasn’t aware that this meat could be harvested in this manner. The smokiness of the charcoal grill accentuated the flavour of the meat which paired nicely with the accompanying onion, grated daicon, and mildly spicy green sauce. Too bad we are only here for one evening, it would definitely be worth coming back to sample other dishes with a large group of friends.

I was really shocked by its difference from Izakaya pubs in Korea. I visited in weekend busy time so I began my stuffs on standing table but has moved in few minutes later by kind support by staff to sitting table. Staffs were very professional, very kind and good at speaking in English so I didn’t feel any inconvenience while staying there. Food served were superb Japanese dishes in light of its price. I was shocked again with its high quality and freshness. I will strongly recommend visiting here to all those around me who have a plan to visit Beppu city. It was our first trip with our 18-month-old baby, and we had a truly wonderful time. The staff were very friendly, and the variety of facilities kept us entertained throughout our stay. Enjoying delicious meals with a great view was also a healing experience for us as parents. We would love to come back again, this time with our parents.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with my 9 month old. We drove up to the Hoshikan building and the staff took our luggage while my husband parked the car. The car park is a 5 minute up hill walk from the hotel and free to park in. As the facilities and services are widespread, the hotel offers shuttles around to these areas. We didn’t utilise any as we were happy to walk. I found Suginoi hotel to be very family friendly. Our room was spacious and they could provide a crib for an extra charge. Upon request, we were provided a baby bathtub. A yukata and slippers were even prepared for our child. Breakfast offered spectacular views and staff were so kind and attentive. There was a large food spread with even a baby food section with a microwave to heat it up. The onsen was the nicest I've been to with lots of different baths. Towels were provided and the staff did a great job keeping the area tidy. There is also a gym, but you do need to wear indoor shoes while inside. These could also be rented for ¥550. Across the road is a 7 eleven and coin laundry which was very convenient. It was such a good experience I would highly recommend this hotel.

The 宙館hotel room is new and clean with modern design. The bed is comfortable. We are travelling as a family of 5 including one baby. When I booked the room, I mentioned it’s 3 adults, 1child and 1 infant. Just 3 bottles of water is given. There is only two adult and two children tooth brushes in the bathroom so one adult need to use the kid one. The onsen is good on the 13/F 宙館. The most disappointed part is the dinner part. When I checked in, I noticed there is nicer restaurant in 宙館, so I asked the front desk if I can pay more to go to the closer restaurant as I travel with a baby. The front desk said no. I explained that I couldn’t choose the nicer restaurant when I make the reservation. The front desk staff said we cannot change even I m willing to pay more. Anyway, we went to the ceada palace to have dinner. The place is really crowded, the air conditioning is not working well n feeling too hot inside, There is no napkin provided. The most important is the food quality is not good either. We don’t enjoy eating there at all. In a conclusion, we haven’t been visited the hotel 10years ago and our experience was really good so we come back again, but this time is so disappointed about paying 96,000 yen for one night in exchange not very fun experience. I won’t recommend my friend to come.

This was our fourth time in this hotel, and Sorakan was the best. Our family had the great time from this stay. The food of buffet and the facilities of the hotel are very nice. We'd like to come again soon.

Not enough chairs for the room. Blind is used for the partition between the sink and the beds, it would wake you. Conclusion Beppu doesn’t offer much lodging to choose from. It is simply a countryside town. Please look carefully when you book.

The chicken tendon and curry on rice was really yummy and affordable! Food came promptly as well. There is cosy seating inside this cabin like diner. And also, do try the special pudding - which has a nice caramel charred taste!

Not as good as it is overrated. The pudding is very basic. 7eleven one much better and cheaper. Overall ok for a sightseeing with basic food. But not worth to come for food itself. Slightly expensive given the basic food which easily get it anywhere outside. Udon is a dry tyle which mix with soy sauce.

This is an institutional part of the Beppu tourist experience. Their pudding are cooked with natural hot spring steam - not that it changes anything in the taste, I don’t think so, but the view from the restaurant and outdoor sitting area is grand and relaxing. If you’re in this part of the city and mountain, it’s worth taking a pit stop for lunch or just pudding.

Karaage is nicely fried, meat is very tender and juicy too. Onsen egg rice is also delicious, very tasty. Pudding is very good with the slight bitterness that compliments the taste.

Although they open at 8:30, only some items are available at this time. The dishes I was most interested in are only available at 11am. There was this ‘Lunch Box’ that looks great but you have to make a reservation for it a day prior? That’s a lot to organize considering a lot of tourists are only stopping by for a few days.

We came here twice cos we love the ambience very much. It gives a village and relax atmosphere inside. If you are in this part of town it is worth visiting here. It just a nestle next to a hill and surrounding area has steam streaming up every where. You can have a snack and enjoy the view overlooking the town. Light meal like onsen steam egg, egg sandwiches, Japanese small rice bowl, cakes puddings etc.

Stop by for their famous pudding my grandma loves it super soft and melts in the mouth not too sweet have a little bit of bitter brown sugar that goes along with the pudding so well. Recommend trying. They have many options of foods for you to try as well.

Quiet place with an old-school vibe, great for a nostalgic dining experience. Many shops are closed, but you might still find some food options here. tried the cold Beppu soba.. kinda refreshing though.

The buckwheat noodles are pulled from an ancient contraption in front of the restaurant. Must order it cold as it keeps the noodles al dente throught your meal -- my companion had the hot version and the noodles get too soft. Probably the BEST soba noodles I've ever had, and I've tried a lot.

I have tried about half the dishes on the menu by now. Chashuramen is one I would recommend. Their yakimeshi is amazing too. The atmosphere has an old-warm charm and the seats disposition is original. Not sure how some fail so hard to understand the point of this place. Thinking they made a good point emphasizing the old vibe as if people were paying for that. The food is great, and you’re so full of yourself. The owner couple is very welcoming as well. And they will bring English menu to you without even having to ask for it. Underrated place as per the reviews!

I was walking around with my wife looking for ramen shop. Most stores and restaurants were closed…..not sure if it’s because Beppu was impacted so badly by Covid. We found this ramen shop was opened and ordered 2 ramen, Tinkotsu and Chan Pon. It’s really different from what we usually get. The soap is not so salty, thick but delicious with strong sweetness from vegetables. It’s not common in Japan as their soap is commonly cooked with a lot of different meat. We also have dumplings and it tasted as good as it looks. The noodle shop was opened in 1992, it really looks old but if you want to get a feel of Japanese cafeteria in 90’, here is where you should go

Cold Beppu Reimen on a hot humid evening, nutritious buckwheat Udon style noodle, spicy and delicious. Well priced cheap eating. No English spoken, so just point and try to pronounce. :)

One of the weaker ramens I had but still a good one nonetheless. The 2 hosts were very kind. And the price was good.

Food was delicious, however, staff wasn’t exactly friendly. Sign on door says English menu available, so I asked for one and was snapped at to check the display outside, take a picture, and come back in and order. Just know to do that and you should be fine.

Yoshinoya, truly FAST food. And pretty good food! Best place if you're hungry and have little time on your hands. From sitting, to ordering, and the food arriving, no more than 10 minutes in my experience. Known for Gyudon (meat bowl with rice). It's probably one of my go-to restaurants for gyudon. Clean restaurant, quick and 24/7. Staff are quick and attentive, no complaints from my experience. You might need a little bit of japanese speaking ability due to the lack of an English menu, but nothing impossible, though!

You should add the clam soup. Definitely worth to try!
