Japanese sweets restaurant
Japanese confectionery shop
Fukusaya is a renowned confectionery in Nagasaki, known for its delicious castella cake. The recipe for this sponge cake was introduced to the city by a Portuguese merchant, and it has since become a local specialty. The historical influence of European merchants in Nagasaki ensured that ingredients like flour and sugar were more readily available here than in other parts of Japan, contributing to the development of unique culinary delights.
Tasty castella カステラ from 1624. Nice to try a piece of history. Crunchy sugar at the bottom. So good!
David T — Google review
¥324 for two pieces of golden brick. It is yummy. Not sweet and very light. Just amazing to pair with bitter coffee or strong tea, please enjoy while watching your weight.
KeoneEwe Y — Google review
Got the classic Castella as it’s a Nagasaki specialty, ate it on the Shinkansen. Thought it was nice but nothing special. It’s basically a sponge cake. It goes well with coffee.
Eda K — Google review
Not bad, but nothing special. Sweet and not too dry.
Tan T — Google review
Great service , the staff here also put on a plastic cover during raining days to keep your cake away from the rain. Very thoughtful.
David C — Google review
Supposedly one of the better castella cake brands amongst the many others in this region
Colin T — Google review
(Translated by Google) Nagasaki has a wide variety of castella shops. They are called the three major Fukusaya, Bunmeido, and Shooken. If you're wondering what to eat, just go to the Amu side of Nagasaki Station or Kamedo Market, and you'll find a lot of them, so it's a good idea to buy a small piece and try it out! Fukusaya is soft and moist. It tastes sweeter Bunmeido's bread is less sweet thanks to the sugar particles at the bottom, and only the bottom pieces are moist. It's delicious. There's no question of what's best, but unlike Korea, it's individually wrapped so it's easy to eat one by one without drying out, and it's moist and doesn't clog your throat, making it a really good bread to eat haha. They say Nagasaki is famous for its castella, so everyone should try it!!

Chinese restaurant
Kozanro Chukagaishinkan is a Chinese restaurant located in Shinchi Chinatown of Nagasaki city. It's known for its famous bowl of champon, similar to ramen but with noodles boiled in the soup. The dish typically includes fried pork and seafood, with the squid being particularly tender. The restaurant is popular for lunch, often with a queue on the ground floor before being called up by the reception staff. While reservations aren't usually necessary, it can get busy.
Champon - Japanese style, Chinese version of Japanese ramen. All hot soup noodles hit the spot in winter and definitely worth a try if you’re in Nagasaki!
Alexander F — Google review
This is another ridiculous long line for either a bowl of noodle or a plate of fried noodle covered with cabbage and assorted seafood and meat. Service is almost none. 东坡肉or台湾刈包is also popular. Tried to dine at 2pm lunch shorter line before kitchen closed. For ordinary noodle dish, I consider it’s expensive.
Yun — Google review
I heard this is the best Champon restaurant in Nagasaki, so I went there for lunch. There was a queue of a dozen on the ground floor. According to some websites the price ranges from 1000 - 1500 yen. As this was my last meal in Nagasaki, I thought that much was justified. My turn came and I was guided to go upstairs. There was a large dining area, which can hold 100 people. A waitress broght the menu, which was different to the one I saw online. There was the only one option for soup champon and its price was 2750 yen. This price almost doubles the regular one. Yes, it's on a public holiday, but this is a rip-off. Go to another reasonable restaurant. Not worth 2750 yen.
Masanao M — Google review
Very very very bad service. We are a group of 9 pax (6 adults and 3 children). The staff separated us into two tables and then they forced us to order 8 main dishes in total even though we already ordered 5 dishes and 1 dimsum. We tried to negotiate, citing that there are 3 children, how could we finish the food. The staff said the ultimatum was to order 7 dishes. We left. The staff didn't could even explain the rationale of asking children to eat main dishes.
Kevin L — Google review
Chinese restaurant without genuine Chinese food and menu. Starred dish sweet and sour pork recommended was full of fat, hardly any meat. Most people there consumed noodles soup.
Dislike P — Google review
We arrived around 5:00 on a weekday. Four groups were waiting ahead of us and we waited for around 15 minutes. We got the champon, spring rolls, black fried rice, shumai, mapo tofu, and Dongpo pork. The food is cheap and decent.
John C — Google review
One of the most popular Champon ramen restaurants in Nagasaki China town. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Tbh, I was thinking it would be another overhyped restaurant, but it actually tasted good. Its Champion soup is pork-based but has a strong seafood broth. The noodles are thick and soft. It has a lot of vegetables and fish cake on top. However not sure it justifies the long wait. I suggest you to wait in line 15 minutes before it opens. It will not accept new customers after the waiting list is filled up. I went there at 11am and they closed the list at 11:40am😲
Yusuke C — Google review
The seafood champon here is a must. The portion is quite large. Also the braised pork in gravy with bun was amazing! The bun was so soft and the pork was full of flavour and will almost melt in your mouth. The queue was about 20 minutes when I went there so this place is quite popular.

Izakaya restaurant
Hikari is a popular spot in Nagasaki known for its American-style Sasebo burgers. The handmade patties are made with the freshest ingredients and are meticulously prepared, resulting in generous portions. The city's rich gastronomic legacy also includes sweet Portuguese-inspired castella cake at Fukusaya. Additionally, Nagasaki offers delicious meat dishes, such as the melty pork feet using Jigemon pork and the cheese pork roll at Hikari.
(Translated by Google) When I visited before, I only got photos without a review, but I will share my impressions on my return visit. I visited here for the first time in almost a year, and the seasoning hasn't changed, and it's basically a dark taste that's nice for sake drinkers. Alcohol was served at just the right time, neither too early nor too late. Being able to smoke while drinking inside the store is really valuable. It's an izakaya that you'll want to come back to again.

(Translated by Google) Alcohol is generally cheap. I don't recommend it if you want to eat yakitori. The toppings are small and dry. It's not worth the price. The shrimp mayo has a strange taste and it's different from what I expected. Other than that, it's just a normal izakaya menu. The atmosphere is dark overall, so if you like it. Recommended. It took a while for the food to arrive because there were only a few part-time jobs. The Turkish rice is hearty and worth eating. No repeat orders. (Translated by Google) Not only fish dishes are delicious in Nagasaki, but meat is also delicious. ◎Food: The lineup using Jigemon pork from Nagasaki is extremely destructive. The highlight is the melty pork feet. The ones here are rare grilled pork feet, and they are crunchy and melty. A gem that could be used for 2 or 3 pieces. Also, the cheese pork roll has a melty cheese, and the chive pork roll has a delicious chive flavor. ◎Alcohol: Yokoyama's lineup of local sake is devastating. There is a special sake set for Yokoyama, and although the amount is a choko, it is delicious and enjoyable. Personally, I recommend the Junmai Daiginjo Yokoyama Black. ◎Payment: PayPay can be used, convenient (Original)

Everything was crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. A set meal with a drink and three dishes was a great deal at 900 yen. They have a wide selection of whale dishes, and the prices are reasonable. It's close to Nagasaki Station, so I highly recommend it. Nagasaki Dejima Wharf, established in 1663 during Japan's period of isolation, holds a rich history as the dwelling for Portuguese Christians and later as a Dutch trading post. It was the sole location where foreigners were permitted to set foot in Japan, serving as the country's exclusive connection to the outside world. The site showcases a captivating blend of Edo-period wooden structures reflecting traditional Japanese architecture and European-style buildings.

Visited in October. The Nagasaki Dejima Wharf area has a number of eateries located near the water. Nice views of the harbor and mountain in the backdrop. There seemed to be a lot of western-style restaurants located here.
Penny S — Google review
Visited Dejima Wharf on a late summer afternoon. Of August 30, 2025. The harbor was a bit hazy, but still beautiful in its own calm way. It was a hot day, so not many people were strolling along the wharf — most were relaxing inside the nearby restaurants. There’s also a park close to the wharf where many locals were picnicking, walking their dogs, or meeting friends. It was such a lovely and peaceful scene to witness.
Benz H — Google review
Nagasaki Dejima Wharf is a fantastic place to take photos, with its picturesque waterfront and scenic views. The area is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and beautiful sunsets, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals. In addition to its photographic appeal, Dejima Wharf offers a variety of dining options. While the food here can be a bit more expensive compared to other places, the quality and variety make it worth it. From fresh seafood to international cuisine, there’s something to satisfy every palate.

A nice place for evening walk from dejima wharf to nagasaki park. Good place for watching the sunset and all kind of seafood dining. Restaurants here at the wharf are known for live seafood serving; you can literally see the fish, crab moving in your plate as they serve. So you can see how fresh the seafood are being served here. All major hotels, restaurants can be found nearby. People are very courteous and well behaved. Ample space available in seaside park for play, meditation.

Tonkatsu restaurant
Tsuruchan, the oldest known cafe on Kyushu island, has been serving up unique and delicious dishes since 1925. One of its must-try specialties is the Turkish Rice, a combination of spaghetti, rice pilaf, and pork tonkatsu with curry sauce. Despite its name's origins being a mystery even to locals, this dish is a tasty conglomeration worth trying for its novelty.
10 Jan 2021 Very cozy cafe with pictures of celebrities and their autographs hung over the wall. The Turkish rice tastes like Hong Kong baked pork chop lolol. Very flavorful . I also tried their specialty dessert which was like a shaved ice milk shake. Will definitely be back if I’m in Nagasaki

Apparently toruko rice is a famed dish in Nagasaki, so we came to experience it. It is simply 3 separate dishes put into 1. There is a lot of history with this cafe/restaurant. The ambience and environment is cosy and nice. Suggest to come here for experience and not fantastic food.
G — Google review
My teenage daughter and I visited this place for lunch after hearing that it is a famous place. We each had the most popular toruko rice and my daughter also had the milkshake. This place has the old school charm and ambience, but the food is nothing to get excited over. Nevertheless, it is worth trying for its popularity that has tested time over the years. .
Song-il A — Google review
When you think of Nagasaki, besides castella (カステラ), Turkish rice (トルコライス / Toruko rice) is also famous! I heard that “Tsuru-chan” is the place for Turkish rice, so I went there. The restaurant was founded in 1925, and it has two floors. Inside, it had a very strong retro vibe. Aside from Turkish rice, their milkshake is also famous, so I ordered that too. All the dishes were generally tasty and satisfying.
Jun — Google review
Turkish rice works pretty well together. The spaghetti kinda just tastes like ketchup but it does give a different flavor to have after eating the curry. The milkshake was a bit disappointing tbh. Was not bad but it is very icy so it's like a watered down vanilla. Also a bit pricy for it. The cafe itself I did not get to see too much, it has lots of autographs so that was cool.
Geoffrey C — Google review
Pretty famous locally as Turkish rice (no relation) and it has spaghetti, rice, curry pork cutlet and cabbage. The flavors are there but the pork was very dry and it’s interesting to get rice, spaghetti and curry on the same plate but it wasn’t really for me. They also sell Nagasaki milkshakes which I’m not sure what the difference is but a lot of locals seemed to get it here
Wilson T — Google review
Unique and unexpected food in Nagasaki called Turkish rice. With pilaf rice (very fragrant and buttery), spagetthi (unlike typical japanese spagetthi, and very tomato-ey) with a big chunck of pork katsu. I'd recommend to try the jipangu (ジパング - i am not sure myself what this is) but it certainly taste unique compared to the recommended menu (which is good, but taste similar to curry)
Eat F — Google review
Nice western style restaurant with lots of historic events. Looks like this is a popular spot, celebrities around the world have visited and left their marks. The signature dish with mixture of pasta flavor is a good call, or you may try the ladies lunch for a taste of everything. Good for tourists too.

Unryutei is a cozy restaurant in Nagasaki known for serving some of the best gyoza dumplings in the city. Yes the famous dumpling itself was really delicious! Super locally and enjoyable foods. But the inside is not so clean. It looks like local working dining. It's more like a neighborhood Chinese restaurant for a quick drink. I ordered one gyoza, some nira-doji, and a bottle of beer. The gyoza had a firm skin and filling, yet was delicious enough to munch on like a snack. I actually wanted to order three, but I had an appointment later, so I only had one. The nira-doji is thinly grilled chives and egg topped with sauce. Both pairs perfectly with the bottle of beer. When the restaurant was full and I made room for the next customer, a waiting customer thanked me in Nagasaki dialect (?), which warmed my heart. The bill came to a whopping 1,500 yen!? Great value for money. Thank you for the meal! This restaurant is loved by everyone, from office workers after work, solo regulars, mothers and children drinking together, and tourists. Izakaya restaurant
Udon noodle restaurant
Kaniya is a cozy restaurant that offers a delightful Izakaya experience. The menu features traditional dishes such as salted mackerel rice balls, akadashi miso soup, onigiri, ochazuke, yakitori, and udon. Visitors appreciate the reasonable prices and relaxed atmosphere where they can observe locals enjoying multiple onigiri servings. The establishment provides multilingual menus but some translations may be amusingly inaccurate.
This was our best Izakaya experience so far. Loved their onigiri, ochazuke, yakitori. Udon was simple and clean. I loved watching other locals eat onigiri, like 3 per person! I’ve never seen such variety of onigiri. Price is reasonable too. I also liked no pressure vibe, we saw others eat just onigiri and miso soup and leave. They have menu in English, Chinese, and Korean, although some translation for English and Korean is hilariously off.

Chinese restaurant
Restaurant
Shikairou Chinese Restaurant is a lively and airy establishment that offers classic Chinese cuisine and noodle dishes with views of the harbor. Located just below Hotel Monterey Nagasaki, this iconic restaurant has been serving up Nagasaki champon since 1899. Champon is a regional dish that originated from China, featuring assorted noodles in a flavorful broth topped with squid, shrimps, fish cakes, pork, tamago slices, mushrooms, and lettuce.
This is the place where Nagasaki champon started (or so people say). The line starts underneath the staircase, where the elevator is located. We didn't see this and despite arriving early, ended up waiting in line for close to an hour. However, the wait was worth it as the champon was definitely the best I've ever had! The surprisingly light broth and medium size noodles topped with plenty of veggies and seafood was fantastic! Crowd Size: Very High (60min wait) Payment Method: Credit Card

I heard about this restaurant being the first restaurant where Nagasaki Champon started. My teenage daughter and I visited this place while sightseeing in Nagasaki. We went in at 5 pm when the restaurant opens for dinner and were seated at a window table on the 5th floor overlooking the port. The restaurant is huge (it even has a souvenir shop). We had gyoza and draft beer for me as a starter and Champon + Sara udon as the main meal. It was delicious but I have had better in Korea. All in all, it was good and it is something to try in Nagasaki.

It's said that this is where champon was invented – a unique noodle dish with a seafood-based broth, an iconic local dish in Nagasaki. It's a great place, a must-visit for fans of Japanese cuisine and its history, which is full of Chinese influences in Kyushu, and this is the best proof of that. The food is excellent (I also recommend ordering the gyoza dumplings 🥟). The staff is very friendly and copes very well with the huge number of guests! Getting a table by the window is a bonus, as the building offers a stunning view of the water. It's definitely worth queuing for a meal!

At Shikairou Chinese Restaurant in Nagasaki, I tried their renowned Champon noodles (¥1320) after a 1.5-hour wait, drawn by the specialty and stunning port views. Champon, inspired by the Fujian dish "Tang Rou Si Noodles," was innovated by Shikairou’s founder into a rich, hearty Japanese-style soup. The thick, chewy noodles paired perfectly with the savoury chicken and pork bone broth, enhanced by a smoky wok hei from high-heat cooking. The portion was generous, making it a satisfying meal. For dessert, I enjoyed the Almond Jelly (¥660), a traditional, soft, and silky almond pudding, which was a refreshing and delightful end to the meal. Despite the wait, the combination of delicious food and scenic views made it a worthwhile experience.

After an extensive search for a restaurant in Nagasaki we decided to go Shikairou. Restaurant is on the 5th floor. We had a short wait for a table and got a table by the window. The sun was setting so the blinds were down to keep out the sun. It was a extremely hot day. Food was excellent. Service was also good. So many waiters and waitresses running around like ants. But overall a very pleasant experience.

Chanpon and saraudon are like brothers separated from birth. If you look at these dishes, the ingredients used are exactly the same. Except one is cooked in some seafood broth and another in pork bone soup. This restaurant is spacious and clean. The utensils are clean as well. The staff are courteous and friendly to us foreigners. There is a nice view of the Nagasaki port. I’ll highly recommend the crab omelette (not many crab meat, but very delicious), the sesame dumpling and the saraudon. After this meal I am convinced to buy a pack of instant saraudon as souvenir.

Nagasaki was a port that was opened to foreign trade during Sengoku period and naturally many foreign influence were presence here including the very first Chinese immigrants. Shikairou, also better known in Chinese as 四海楼 was one of the very first establishment of Chinese restaurants here and serving Japanese-Chinese style cuisine. Though I didn't have high expectation here, I still decided to try how different it could taste. We ordered champon noodle, which taste like sweet version of loh mee with a lot of vegetable, then sarauodon which🍲 is like the Japanese version of fried egg noodles served with thick sauce, similar to Cantonese fried or yinyong, or 滑蛋生面. I also ordered a steam chicken for fun to see how different it is and it is really...meh. The noodles were ok but not really Chinese style. There are other usual Chinese dishes like stir fried or cooked food. There were a lot of tourists, both local and foreign and having a name taking queue system with a waiting room. Service was ok, with Chinese style table serving, overlooking the Nagasaki port. Overall a good eye opener to see how Chinese food evolved outside China, taste wise I would probably just rate a 3.5. A once in a lifetime but no next time experience.

In the 16th century, the Portuguse reached southern Japan and soon started trade and missionary work. Nagasaki was then the only Japanese port open for foreign commerce. The Portuguese introduced many then-unusual things, such as guns, tobacco, pumkins and  the castella  cake. In the Edo period in part due to the cost of sugar, castella was an expensive dessert to make despite the ingredients sold by the Portuguese. When the Emperor of Japan`s envoy  envoy was invited, the Tokugawa Shotgunate  was presented the Castella.. Over the years, its taste changed to suit Japanese palates. To day, Castella cakes are sold in Nagasaki supermarkets, gifts and souvenir shops. There are so many varieties of Castella cakes. Try it when you are in Nagasaki. It is very YUMMY.

When we arrived the place was quite full, we had to wait a bit which I took as a good sign after all the good reviews. However, we were three people, eating three dishes (fried rice, sara udon with starchy sauce and sesame ramen) and each dish tasted horrible to us, we left a good part of the food. I will readily admit that this might be a matter of taste, other people around us seemed to enjoy similar dishes a lot more - but we have been to Japan a few times and we never experienced anything like it. THe was another couple we had a chat with in the waiting lobby which we then happened to meet later on Mount Inasa - they also did not like the food at all and in fact had returned the first version of what they ordered. I wouldn't go again.

Great place to have lunch if you’re in the area. It seemed like a tourist trap initially, but then turned out to be a surprisingly legit Chinese restaurant. If you’re looking for something lighter than Champon and less oily than Sara Udon, try their stir-fried noodles. It’s like a stir-fried version of Champon minus the soup. Delicious!

Came in at around 1330 on a Friday in mid November. There is free parking available. You put your name down in the guest book at the entrance and they call your name when your table is ready. Ordered the Champon, Sara udon and the fried udon. Personally I like the Sara udon. With a dash of vinegar it hits the spot for me. The chili prawns are also nice. Enjoyable lunch in Nagasaki .

For my fellow Gen Zers this was BUSSIN. I had to wait a bit to be seated as I came at a busy time but honestly it was so worth it. The braised pork buns were literally melt in your mouth delicious, the shrimp dumplings were heaven and the dessert was crispy, sweet and just overall goodness in a ball. I did ball out a bit so this meal (braised pork, shrimp dumplings, small rice, 2 x sesame balls and a beer) was 4200 yen, but honestly, as a treat it was so worth it. The staff were also amazing; I had two waiters serve me, both super friendly and both knowing English to guide me through the process. The interior decor is also super beautiful. Great spot for a special occasion or fine dining lunch/dinner. If I didn’t live in Australia I would definitely come back.

Kyokaen is an unassuming restaurant in Chinatown that offers traditional Chinese delicacies and features an event space. The food is served quickly and lives up to its appearance on the menu, following Japanese customs. Visitors can enjoy delicious dishes such as eggplant, spring rolls, gyoza, and sweet-sour pork at reasonable prices. It's a must-visit dining spot for those looking to savor authentic Chinese cuisine in a casual setting.
This was my first time trying champon and it didn’t disappoint. The noodles were firm and chewy and the toppings generous. Bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage, shallots and tree fungus along with pork, kamaboko and baby squid made for a filling meal. But best of all was the soup: made of chicken and pork bone broth, it was rich and mellow with just the right amount of saltiness. All in all, as perfect a bowl of noodles as I’ve ever had. The service was prompt and attentive. If you’re going to initiate yourself to champon, this is definitely the place to start.

The thing you need to remember about Chinatown in Nagasaki is that they don't stay open very late. It was a bit late in the day and we wanted to try dining here since it was close to our hotel. Many of the restaurants were already full (and weren't taking any more parties) So we were kinda lucky that this restaurant let us wait for an open table. Last call was 7:30pm and they close at 8:30pm. Chinese Restaurant Kyokaen 京華園 is fairly large and reminds me a bit of how Chinese restaurants were like in Vancouver back in the 70s. We ordered a bunch of dishes. They are on the small size but most dishes were only about 1000-1500yen. We ordered the corn soup, braised Chinese vegetables (which were tiny), sautéed shredded pork with green pepper, and Sara udon special with thin noodles (it was sweeter and with more varied ingredients than the Sara udon we had previously at champon358 but i think I preferred the one we had at champon358 because it had more crispy noodles). We also had the sautéed shrimp and iced almond bean curd dessert (which I haven't seen in Chinese restaurants for years). Overall, the food was pretty good although somewhat touristy. Dinner came out to about 7600 yen (for 4 people).

First of all the service was compared to every other place in Japan very bad. I didn't fehlt welcome at all. Besides that the chinese food was not good. No flavor or spice at all. I can't recommend this Restaurant
Jo T — Google review
Located in the right side of China town gate, this place is always filled with people. They provided Chinese dishes including Nagasaki special champion noodles and crispy thin dry noodles. Also, they modified champion noodles a little bit and it taste good! All the dishes we have are delicious except the recommended shumai skin is terrible :( The atmosphere of restaurant is pretty good. You don’t have to worry about the smell leaving in your cloths. Nice one with fair price for all the dishes we have but some dishes inside are pretty expensive.

This a great place to eat at. The food was quick and delicious. As is custom in Japan, the food served looks exactly like it does on the menu so you know just what you're ordering. A must try when you're in Chinatown.

If you want Chinese food, it’s okay. If you love Chinese food, it might be be not okay. Your decision.

Great meal, eggplant dish was amazing, loved the spring rolls. Good gyoza and sweet -sour pork, which was more traditional and less American -style. Good prices, three people stuffed ourselves for less than 5000 yen.

Waiters are efficient and friendly. That's as far as my good experience went at this place. If you're tempted about eating here, think again and go elsewhere. I'd like to go into details, but just remembering the food gives me post traumatic stress symptoms in my bowel region

Ramen restaurant

Mandarin restaurant
Noodle shop
Menya Always is a top ramen shop in Nagasaki, conveniently located near Shianbashi station. Their pork-based ramen and tsukemen are highly popular, featuring a secret spicy miso. For something unique, try their lemon tonkotsu ramen or the lighter pork soba. Despite its small size, the shop offers some of the best ramen and tsukemen in the area.
This was my first time in Japan, but my husband was stationed here in the Navy, so it wasn’t his first. We really wanted authentic ramen, and we found this place...OMG, what a great find! The ramen is delicious, and the atmosphere was so nice. There was a bit of a wait, but that’s understandable. We definitely recommend it!
Netta S — Google review
Wow!!! This place serves DELICIOUS food. I arrived right at opening time, so did not have to wait in a line. By the time I left, there was a line of a few people but nothing major. The ordering kiosk didn’t have English translation (at least none that I could find). I erroneously ordered a bowl of the lemon ramen although I was attempting to order a bowl of the lemon tsukumen. When my bowl came out, I was not upset at all. The taste of the ramen was exquisite. I have never tasted anything like it before. I quickly finished it and given how good it was I decided I still had some room left to try the tsukumen. I asked one of the staff and he allowed me to add onto my order but I had to pay with cash. When I got my tsukumen, I was so glad I ordered it! The noodles were soaked in kombu water, which gave them a very nice taste and texture even on their own. They also came with sea salt and wasabi which I was instructed to try the noodles with on their own, both delicious. Then came the broth. Although I was pretty full at this point, I pushed through to eat most of it just because it was that tasty! I cannot recommend this ramen spot enough. Please just go.

Food, service, ambience, everything was AMAZING. We came down to try the Tsukemen only to find out that it was sold out, however we decided to try the other ramen options as they look good too. We ordered the Lemon Ramen (new on menu!), Back Fat Ramen, MAX ramen & Kurume Ramen. The ramen did not disappoint!! That was not all, the chef asked us if we came down specially for the Tsukemen, and we said yes. To our surprise, he prepared a set of Tsukemen noodles for us 🥺🫶🏻 AND IT WAS SO GOOD?!! *chef kiss* Thank you chef!! Highly recommended to drop by this restaurant if you are visiting Nagasaki, I’ll come back again for sure!! 🤤💯

Delicious and spicy ramen, the noodles were perfectly cooked, the pork was tender and the broth was the best part, tender and well seasoned. The only bad thing is the amount of bean sprouts they serve you, I like bean sprouts, but there was more of those than noodles. Other than that, great place to eat a ramen

Coming from Tokyo, Menya Always was a complete surprise for me. I recognised nothing on the menu, and had trouble choosing because everything looked amazing. I went for their claim to fame, the lemon ramen, which was definitely a good decision. The sour lightness of the lemon contrasted nicely with the thin noodles and the broiled pork. The staff was friendly and joyful, while the music matched their vibe and the prices were very fair. A highlight of our trip to Nagasaki!

Really good Tsukemen Noodles! Friendly and cool staff. The service was impeccable, fast too. You can choose how salty you want your broth. Don't forget to ask afterwards: soup wari kudasai, so you get hot water to drink the rest of your soup (or take it home in a flask it is that good!) My husband ate the lemon tonkotsu ramen and he loved his too. Very fresh and delicious. A must try.

Vegetarian restaurant
Veggie Cafe Bar Nobister is a cozy spot in Nagasaki that takes pride in serving up hearty and delicious vegetarian meals. Their produce comes from a pesticide-free family farm, and they source their salt locally. In addition to their savory dishes, they offer delectable animal-free baked breads. Visitors have raved about the Vegan Combo Set C for dinner and the vegan sandwich lunch set.
I went for dinner and was able to choose from 4 sets on the menu (¥2,200 each)! I got the set with seasonal produce and everything tasted delicious. The woman working behind the bar and preparing the food was very friendly! There is a corner by the entrance where they sell things like bread and donuts (all vegan). I bought the curry bread (カレーパン) and it was so delicious that I came back the next day to buy another one! If you are vegan or vegetarian, it’s definitely worth visiting for lunch or dinner, or even a small snack to go ☺️

This is my first visit to Nagasaki and Japan. After a long 23 hr journey getting here I couldn’t wait to have a good meal and Nobister did not disappoint. My meal was amazing and sitting at the bar I was able to watch the meticulous and beautiful preparation thereof. I had the Vegan meal set with rice balls and had the amazing Signature vegetable soup. Every item was unique and fabulous. I will definitely return during my brief stay here.

Had the most delicious vegan curry with seasonal veggies which tasted amazing and it was a huge portion too! I was thrilled to find this place as vegan options are sparse in Nagasaki. The little shop also sells vegan (curry and normal/European style) bread, donuts and muffins. The narrow bar seats 8 people and there is one table for two in the back, so quite small. Would definitely recommend!

Goninbyakusyou is a charming Izakaya that offers delicious and reasonably priced food. The menu includes fresh fish and the highly recommended Genkiga Deru Salad. While the English menu is available, it may have limited options. The friendly atmosphere adds to the overall dining experience, making it a great place to enjoy tasty dishes.
Absolutely fantastic izakaya that doesn't care about tourists! We came early and the place filled up pretty quickly. There is no English menu and Google Translate won't help you either because the letters are not written in a standard way. We had a great evening and it was funny to see tourists looking through the window but no one had the courage to enter the shop. The menu included some Nagasaki specialties and unfortunately also horse meat. The food is of good quality and I had a Japanese feeling that I haven't had in a long time.

Me and my girlfriend asked the staff at the entrance wheter there are any seats left for us to eat dinner and one of the younger ones just crossed her arms and said no. We looke around and saw that there are many seats still available. Thinking they could be reserved for other people we asked someone else from the staff if there is any possibility to have dinner there and he quickly showed us to our seat. The food was very good and the atmosphere as well but the staff didn't really meet those standards. Quite rude I'd say. Nevertheless we enjoyed the nice food and atmosphere!

I tried to go at 9pm on a Saturday. There were plenty of places but they rejected me giving me the 🙅 sign while I was about to open the door. From their manners I got the feeling it was rejected just because I'm a gaijin.
Ghael — Google review
Me and my boyfriend wanted to go eat at the restaurant. When we entered one of the staff just gave us the 🙅🏻‍♀️ sign. We still waited as there were plenty of seats left and after a while another staff showed us to a seat. First question, why does one staff say it‘s full and the next finds you a seat without a problem? We ordered quite a lot as we were super hungry. Everything was good but I would say average compared to other izakayas i experienced. When we wanted to order the bill with the iPad, nothing showed up. So we tried to call the staff around six times with the button on the iPad and twice through hand signs, but no one came. After many attempts my boyfriend stood up and approached one staff asking nicely if we could pay. She just passed by and gave a yes sign with her head. It never came. So we stood up again and walked to the cashier as a last resort as we wanted to leave and calling and approaching them obviously didnt work. The guy who showed us to our seats in the beginning finally let us pay. It seemed like he was the only one who cares. So sad that the rude behaviour of the staff influences the ambiente in such a bad way. Actually not acceptable to be treated that way…

Hamakatsu offers a unique dining experience with its shippoku-ryori, a Nagasaki-style kaiseki that is both satisfying and affordable. The menu is diverse, offering options for Japanese or Western-style seating. Guests can conveniently order and refill using a tablet. Despite the possibility of tough meat due to early serving, the cheese-filled pork cutlet stands out as a delicious choice. However, it's suggested that the restaurant pays more attention to cleaning during operating hours.
We came on a Sunday night and our meal was stupendous. It was our first time to make our own sauce with a mortar and pestle. Interesting! It’s quite a popular place until closing time 😃
Calej — Google review
Food was flavorless. I order the meal set of assorted cuts (pork filled with cheese, chicken and shrimp) and it was just normal. The price is expensive for what the meal actually is. You can get better food (same plate) but cheaper at other places. Service was very good but to be honest I wouldn’t come back here.
Duvan F — Google review
Ordering with tablets was really convenient but also staff was helpful explaining how to customize the sauce etc - we enjoyed our meal!
Michael C — Google review
I wouldn't recommend trying this restaurant if you have other options. Didn't get to take a photo as I was hungry to eat. But even if I was hungry, I was disappointed with the tonkatsu. The dish felt like it lacked any flavor and the breading for the pork loin was hard (not crispy, more hard). The sauce didn't really help in saving the dish either.

Taiwanese restaurant
Chinese restaurant
Lao Lee is a Taiwanese restaurant located in Nagasaki Chinatown, offering traditional specialties in a cozy and warm atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its Mapo Tofu served in a mini hot pot with Sichuan chili pepper that induces a tingling numbness in the mouth. Despite some mediocre dishes, the Sara Udon, champon, mabou tofu, and tobiko fried rice are highly recommended by patrons.
As soon as you walk in there’s a multitude of signatures from celebrities who have visited this restaurant, and you soon learn why it’s so popular. Had the Mapo Tofu which arrived sizzling to my table and was outrageously good. Don’t miss out on this place if you’re in the area.
Hildur J — Google review
Please come here with no expectation of good food or service. Despite being a Taiwanese restaurant, most of the dishes resemble Japanese food. As you can see the food looked really good. To be frank, champon was very salty and the spicy noodle was just oily. They are mid. I have expected better from a restaurant of this price point. On top of this, the waitress was giving a bad attitude. We had to wait for the table when the restaurant was empty and was given no water when we ate. We had to ask for it and she gave us a despised look.
Pk — Google review
Unfortunately just okay. The food is not that stand out. Maybe for Chinese/Tawainese in Japan it bangs. For example the top of the xiaolong bao had gone hard before serving (made a long time ago). The street vendors xiaolong bao was much more tasty!! The medicinal ribs were the best though and quite tasty. The rest unfortunately not so great, especially considering the price.
Nathan — Google review
To be honest, they don’t really serve legit and authentic Chinese or Taiwanese food even though it is said to be so. Feels like a fusion of things coming together or just chefs trying to be creative. Despite this cognitive dissonance, the food was still decent. The Mapo tofu and XLB were tasty. The sara-udon was tasty but just tasted like a wet version of okonomiyaki. Encourage those who wants to try to come with an open mind and have no expectations.
G — Google review
GET THE MAPO TOFU. The other dishes at Lao Lee are quite mediocre tbh. Plus the restaurant doesn’t feel clean e.g. the floor is sticky, the table has stain, and the place looks old with the aged furnishings. We arrived at 12pm and the restaurant was pretty empty. By the time we left at around 1pm, the line got really long with locals and tourists. *Mapo Tofu 麻婆豆腐🌟 Lao Lee serves up Mapo Tofu in a mini hot pot. They use Sichuan chili pepper (赤麻椒) so the dish induces a tingling numbness in the mouth. It is on the spicer end compared to typical Japanese food, but still tolerable. The mapo tofu is a straight up 5/5 to me. *Pork Egg Fried Rice 老李焼豚炒飯 Very mid. Not enough smoky aroma. The rice wasn’t grainy enough — they probably didn’t use overnight rice for this. * Pork Belly Bun 角煮万十 It looks like Taiwanese Gua Bao (刈包) but without cilantro and ground peanut. It tasted bland without any seasonings or sauce. * Steamed Pork Dumpling 肉汁水餃 The portion was shockingly small lol. They looked sad on the tiny plate.
Ruby C — Google review
Amazing food. Had the sara udon, champon, mabou tofu and fried rice. The taste was well-balanced and surprisingly complex. Wow. Really glad to have patronized this place.

Lao Lee Main shop at Nagasaki Chinatown. Authentic Taiwanese food located on 2nd floor of the building. Good food and good service. My favorite dish was the tobiko fried rice.
Sivaporn S — Google review
Came here for dinner based on the recommendation of a local working at the front desk of our hotel. The entrance steps are lined with signatures of I’m guessing famous people who have eaten there. We were the only guests and seated and ordered quickly. No English menus but everything had photos. Food came out hot but very tiny portions. The food was tasty but a little too salty for me. The champon was good but not for the price of ¥1000 to me. The veggies plate was the size of my fist for ¥800– very expensive. The could have written gram amounts next to the food for better expectation of food you get for the price. My wallet hurt for the amount of food afterwards.

Specializing in Tuscan cuisine, the eatery focuses on incorporating beans and vegetables into their dishes. While they do offer meat options, there are also plenty of choices for vegetarians, such as the hearty ribollita vegetable stew. One of their standout dishes is the gorgonzola and pine nut risotto, known for its extraordinary taste.

Disappointing. We arrived at a little after 6pm, the only diners. We ordered a risotto and pasta starters, a wine and beer. The risotto arrived quickly. The pasta 15-20 minutes later, I think they forgot. Both dishes were mediocre.

A very satisfying Tuscan meal experience in Nagasaki. The chef's personal sojourn in Italy shines through in the well thought out menu which embraces the warm cuisine of this region. There are several items on the menu that are not found at other Italian eateries in Japan which is a welcome surprise indeed. Instead of lamb chops, the offering here is a perfectly grilled skewer of delicately seasoned lamb cubes. Pasta dishes were rich and flavorful showcasing the care with which the chef handles each course. Wine selection is limited but again shows that great care was taken in the bottles chosen to match the menu items. One exceptional bottle was the Valdobbiadene Prosecco from the Veneto region. The friendly husband and wife team will welcome you into their Tuscan home with a warm embrace.

Had a delicious meal here, the highlight of which was a risotto with gorgonzola and pine nuts that was simply incredible. The pasta was perfectly cooked. Bishnu is an Indian restaurant with three locations in Nagasaki Prefecture, including one in Nagasaki City's Mezame-machi. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring both meat and vegetarian dishes, making it a great choice for dining with friends of different dietary preferences. Visitors can expect excellent food, particularly the flavorful and perfectly spiced curry as well as the light and buttery naan.
We made it to lunch and ordered the chicken/vegetable curry set, palak dal set, and a cheese naan. Cheese naan had a lot of cheese and felt quite heavy after just eating half the serving. Chicken and veggie curry was just right with flavor. The vegetables had a little char on them to mix things up a bit. Palak Dal had a very healthy earthy feel when eating. I enjoyed it a lot even without rice. Portions are pretty large. The servers were also very attentive. They noticed me calling from across the room with little effort

(Translated by Google) Traditional Japanese cuisine served in a 100-year-old building If I were ever to go to Nagasaki, I would have loved to try authentic Japanese cuisine, and my wish has finally come true. The place we visited was Sakamotoya, which protects a 100-year-old building. In addition to cooking, they also run an inn, and the room we were shown in was just like an inn room. A nostalgic black dial phone and a round table that gives you a sense of history. The atmosphere is outstanding. The history of Shokufuku Ryori is a menu that mixes "Japanese, Chinese, and Dutch" culture created among Nagasaki townspeople in a serving style that is considered to be a type of Shojin Ryori. There is certainly a bland Japanese dish like Shojin Ryori, but Dutch grilled shrimp with shrimp mayo? There are also dishes with strong flavors, such as Silk Road cuisine that removes national borders. Braised pork is always on the menu, and this is thick and tender. It is different from Okinawa's Rafute, and is not as thin as other Kakuni. It's called super luxurious braised pork, but maybe it's because it's Sakamotoya... Zoni is served first, followed by rice and shiruko, so you'll be quite full. The lunch was a lavish 20,000 yen, but the takubuku ryori, served in a historic house with a nostalgic feel, was nostalgic and delicious. The pork belly in particular was amber-colored and thick yet soft, and did not disappoint. ^_^ If you visit by car, there is a ticket service if you use the designated parking lot. I used it this spring, so I was busy and a little late in uploading. Chinese restaurant
Nestled near the foot of a bridge, Kyorakuen is a cozy eatery that specializes in beloved Chinese dishes like champon and sara udon. This charming restaurant often sees long lines during lunchtime, even on weekdays, thanks to its reputation for delicious food. The champon here is particularly noteworthy; it features a light broth that gradually reveals layers of umami and sweetness from fresh vegetables and tender pork as you savor each bite.
Highly recommended! 👍 Although menu is in Japanese, the friendly staff can help us with the order flawlessly and she even help recommend the MUST TRY dishes :) you should not miss the chance to have a meal from this lovely restaurant. Every dishes we had were delicious, we will definitely come back if we visit Nagasaki again.

I ordered Sara Udon (thin noodles). Among all the Sara Udon I’ve had, this one had the thickest sauce, which kept the crispy fried noodles from absorbing moisture, allowing me to enjoy their crunchiness until the very end. The portion was also large enough to make me feel full with just one plate, and I was very satisfied.

Unagi restaurant
Izumiya is a charming establishment that has been delighting visitors since 1860. Nestled in the heart of Nagasaki, it specializes in delectable castella sweets crafted by skilled artisans using premium eggs sourced from local farms. Among their offerings are the traditional Nagasaki castella, a unique chocolate-infused version called Shiyokoraatothat, and Kireka, which features a delightful two-layer combination with red beans.
Established in 1860, very cosy atmosphere with cobblestone flooring, u get to see your live dinner right after you enter the shop. Friendly owner and granny. Eel and rice separate means eel comes with the sauce in an orange pottery ware, rice you can take as much as you want. Eel donburi comes with eel on top of rice bowl, sauce is separate. Eel pieces are big, would recommend 5 slices as standard to start with.

In a little back street off the main shopping street in a very funky bit of town. It is all eel. Delicious delicious eel. There is a reason this restaurant has been open since 1860. There is a basic English menu. Great food interesting space cold beer.

Delicious eel rice set, from the aromatic eel, soft rice to the fragrant soup! The entrance and the shop is a bit rundown but the hospitality is really first class. The menu was in Japanese, but the aunty serving us did explain the options (with Japanese and sign language): 4-piece set 2,600 yen, 5-piece set 3,200 yen and also donburi options. We went with 4 pieces set for each of us and the quantity was just right. At 7pm on a week night and only another table besides our group at the shop. Overall it's charming, and the food is great, and we love the friendliness of the aunties!

I have always liked gyudon in Japan, Yoshinoya, Sukiya, Matsuya, for a quick and satisfying service. My teenage daughter and I found this place near our hotel (JR Kyushu Hotel Nagasaki in Nagasaki Station). We had a quick lunch after check-in before starting our tour of the city. As always, there was no disappointment. There is a tablet to order in front of each seat (mostly for solo diners). We had a good quick meal.

It has English menu & ordering is via a tablet, so there is no confusion. If you have e-money such as ICOCA, you may not even need to speak at all to dine here. The menu is healthy, the service is fast, & the price is reasonable. During lunch it seemed to always have discounted price on certain menu. I went to this shop on the first day of my trip to Japan, and it made Yoshinoya my number one goto place to eat for the rest of my trip. This shop also opens very early in the morning & it really helped me as I always start my day before 7:00.

Clean and bright Yoshinoya, a nationwide chain restaurant for beef bowl. Probably 24 hours open. An old (in his 50s or 60s?) male staff at night was super nice with great customer care attitude. I didn't know very well about their membership point system nor their coupons by smartphone, but he explained to me very clearly in very nice attitude. I was surprised very happily with his quick answer and his attitude because usually, in my image, old Japanese are very bad at IT things and old male staffs' attitudes are not friendly especially in small cities. Really he was different. From the day 1, I started loving this city!

Mos Burger Nagasaki Hamanomachi offers a unique twist on traditional burgers, with patties that resemble a blend of beef and other ingredients, giving them the flavor of a teishoku restaurant's hamburg-steak dish. The fish burger is particularly noteworthy for its delicious, albeit slightly greasy, taste. Burgers were fine, but the patty was more like a mixture of beef and other ingredients (e.g., onion). Kind of reminded me more like a hamburg-steak dish you could get at a teishoku restaurant. (Translated by Google) I entered this long-established soba restaurant with high expectations. I ordered a large Zaru (1,080 yen) and a Soba-kasane (980 yen). The Zaru was disappointing, as you couldn't really taste the soba and it was expensive. They also served soba soup, but it was also bland. On the other hand, the Soba-kasane was an interesting combination of soba and rice bowl, which changed daily. The bowl was integrated into one bowl. The warm soba soup was sweet and had an unusual broth, making it delicious. Since I visited on a Sunday, I ordered a Tendon. Although it's called a bowl, the tendon ingredients are placed on thinly ground rice, so it's not very filling. Many people ordered this, so I thought I should have ordered it. Also, there were many unfamiliar soba dishes on the menu, but the lack of photos made it difficult to order. I wish there were photos. Personally, I wanted to try the Kamo Minami Soba, which is available on Fridays. The seating is not very spacious: two tatami rooms, three tables, and two counters that seat three people. I went there at 1pm on a Sunday, but people were coming in and out. It was great that I could use PayPay for payment.

Some people have said all sorts of things in reviews, but it makes me sad that they seem to think they can say whatever they want because they're paying. I respect their dedication despite their advanced age. 🫡 I'm sure the flavor and portions have changed, but I hope they continue to do well. The portion was very small for a large serving, and was the same volume as a regular serving at an ordinary soba restaurant. The taste was extremely ordinary and unremarkable. The bill came to 1,350 yen (an extra 500 yen for a large serving). The cost performance and service were in the worst class. I will never go again. The inside of the store is beautiful and there are mostly table seats, but there are also tatami rooms. Most of the customers were elderly. The daily soba stack is a great value set that includes a bowl of rice and warm soba or udon. I think it's a hit or miss depending on the day, but I'm glad it's also available on Saturdays and Sundays. I created a seasonal menu called ``Summer stacks''. The quantity is small. The soba noodles were soft. The sauce on the tempura bowl was sweet and delicious. "Soba no Wa" is a soba specialty store located in Wakaba-cho that offers Horokanai soba among other varieties. The restaurant also serves fluffy toriten and flavorful rice. Customers have noted the good aroma and generous portions of the soba, making it a cost-effective choice. The kakesoba with abundant ingredients and delicious soup has left patrons impressed, while the Tendon is highly recommended for a future visit.

The soba noodles were fragrant and had a good amount even in the normal size. Does it have any special characteristics? (Translated by Google) I received set B (drink, 5 gyoza, ramen) for 1,408 yen. Choose beer (600 yen each) and salt ramen (700 yen) It's so nostalgic to hear old B'z songs being played in the store. I don't like the soup because it smells like chicken. The saltiness is moderate and the oil will float a little. Medium-thick straight noodles contain more water and are more elastic. Even though the thin char siu has a strong flavor, it does have a bit of a smell (the meat is dark). The white onions were also wilted, unfortunately. The beer was a brand called Suntory's Fragrant Ale. It reminded me of a refreshing product called Next Style that was released by Sapporo a while ago. I found it aromatic and easy to drink, but some people may find it unpleasant. My favorite type of gyoza is that the skin is thin and soft, but the presence of chives is strong. Unfortunately, it was a bar that catered to the needs of drunken customers rather than focusing on ramen. You can hear the tram fern while sipping ramen! The horn has a very nostalgic and elegance (dangerous) Cars must not stop on the track bed. Around Shianbashi Station, it's hard to see oncoming cars when you try to enter the Doza direction. I have no choice but to live with my heart held high in this unstoppable world (Fern!) (Translated by Google) In conclusion, I will never go there again😢 The male clerk is seriously the worst! The only saving grace was that the elderly female clerk who brought me the ramen was pleasant. At the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, perhaps due to the influence of Masaharu Fukuyama and Riisa Naka, who were the guests on that day, many restaurants were temporarily closed, but only the ramen shops were open, and there were long lines at all the shops (see the back of the photo). There is also a queue at the store shown) This was the only store where there weren't many people, so I thought I'd be able to get in right away, but I was wrong 😩 (I was convinced after reading the reviews 💦) Anyway, the male waiter who came to take our order was busy and rushed, and when he overlooked the free toppings, he acted as if to tell us to decide quickly, which made us all very uncomfortable. We all ended up choosing the first egg we saw. The ramen was so lukewarm that even my cat-tongued self could eat it right away. I used soy sauce pork bones, but the taste was a little weird😞 The salt soup was much better. (I was not asked about the hardness of Chinamichi noodles) The char siu was also not good and I was glad I didn't have the char siu ramen. Boiled egg was delicious The side menu of gyoza is difficult to remove as it is served on a small plate for 3 people (see photo), the filling is not juicy and tasteless, and the mini fried rice is salty and makes you thirsty. The thing that made me feel the most was when my 2nd grade elementary school child went to the bathroom after dinner, he was immediately told to come out because there was someone waiting outside! The restaurant is small, and the entrance to the restroom is directly behind the table. There's no space to wait? Can you leave the child alone? (If you are an adult, you would be able to guess that if you were not there, you would be outside, so you would do that.) The four men sitting next to us had finished eating before us and were chatting, but instead of telling them, they told us, who were just women and children, which made me feel bad😡 It's probably more of a bar at night than a ramen shop.

Although I'm a local, I'm a Turkish rice geek, and I've tried quite a lot of them within walking distance of Nagasaki City, and they're pretty high on the list! In other words, the quality is amazing at this price. Personally, I would rank 2nd or 3rd. Each item is carefully made and delicious. It even comes with coffee after the meal. The customer service is also very warm and attentive. However, when it comes to work lunches on weekdays, it is popular, takes a long time to serve, and is extremely filling, so I went there twice and finished it both times, but my companion couldn't finish it in time. I'm sorry for leaving you behind. Will the atmosphere be different at night? While thinking that. I plan on using it next time. For those who have time, those who want to eat well, and those who love delicious food, customer service is one of the attractions of this restaurant! If any of these apply to you, please try our lunch service once. Recommended. When you enter the store, there are counter seats and several table seats. There were some people smoking, so it doesn't seem like they have separate smoking areas. The timed lunch seems to change daily and is written near the counter. There were three types on this day. I chose the ``Hamburger Lunch'', and I really like the simple handmade feel of this hamburger, as if it were made at home. The ``Turkish Rice'' was served in one plate, so it didn't seem like there was much to eat, but by the time I finished eating it, I was full.
