Pub
Little Angel is a traditional pub located in a fairly central area, known for its three bars, hearty food, and live music. It has a reputation for being goth-friendly and offers a lively atmosphere with large sports screens. The pub also serves fresh stone-baked pizzas and hosts a busy events calendar. The friendly hosts and bar staff ensure that visitors receive a warm welcome and enjoy their time at the establishment.
We stayed across the road from this pub so thought we’d try it. We weren’t disappointed. The lady that served us was lovely and welcoming. The drinks were reasonably priced and they even sell tubs of dog treats which was a bonus for our little Benji.

Situated nr the top of the hill on the whale bone side of Whitby. Very busy pub, got lots of real ale to choose from. Old fashioned interior, lots of seating inside as well as a outside beer garden.
Jan R — Google review
A hidden gem. Classic styled pub with a fantastic line up of cask. Nice sun trap in the garden, and a covered outdoor area in case of the typical rainfall during the British Summer. Well priced and friendly staff. I'll be back 👍
Matt C — Google review
The Little Angel in Whitby is a traditional pub known for its warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Based on various reviews, it seems to be a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Live Music & Atmosphere: * Live music is a key feature, with performances by local entertainers on a regular basis, often on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. * The pub is also popular during Whitby's Goth and Folk Festival weeks, where musicians sometimes play live al fresco sets on their beer terrace. * The atmosphere is described as upbeat and lively, with people singing and cheering. * While it can get full and there might not be a lot of room, people seem to enjoy the energy and the overall experience. Other Notable Features: * The pub offers a wide selection of drinks, including cask ales (with a discount for CAMRA members), lagers, ciders, wines, and a range of spirits. * It also has a beer terrace, which is noted as the only outdoor drinking area in the upper part of town. * The pub is child- and dog-friendly. * They show live sports on widescreen TVs and host other events like karaoke and quiz nights. * Some reviews mention that the pub also has accommodation available in a suite above the premises, which is praised for being clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. However, guests staying in the accommodation should be aware that it can be noisy on nights with live music or other events.

Went today for a drink, didn’t end up buying one as the lass had the worst customer service ever, never acknowledged us walking in, and then once all seated I went to the bar and if looks and atmosphere could kill I’d be dead, I walked away and left. Would go there again

Lovely little pub with a small outdoor area, and another under cover outdoor area. Staff were friendly and it had a nice vibe

Abbey Wharf is a popular bi-level eatery located in Whitby, offering a versatile dining and entertainment experience for all occasions. The restaurant boasts a relaxed and welcoming ambiance with a diverse crowd, including families, friends, couples, and even pets. Established in 2015, Abbey Wharf has become one of the most favored harbourside restaurants in Whitby. The menu features an array of dishes such as fresh salads, steak, vegetarian options, seafood, and fish dishes.
We read some mixed reviews about this place before I booked, but we had a good meal and experience. I had the mussels and my husband had the calamari. They had a good amount of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Both our meals were decent. Nice music playing, chilled vibes, the cocktail menu was HUGE and went down a treat. If you’re looking for 5 star Michelin dining, this isn’t the place for you. If you want a nice, chilled eatery by the bay, you’ll enjoy this place. It was one of our favourite meals of our visit.
Grace M — Google review
Great location with a terrace overlooking the harbour. Large and spacious with tables spread out - very comfy. Food was good especially the whitebait which was amazing. My husbands white fish was a little overdone but otherwise would definitely return here.
Maria 6 — Google review
Abbey Wharf is a wonderfully welcoming spot with incredibly friendly staff who make the visit feel special from the moment you arrive. The views are absolutely stunning—worth the trip alone—and it’s great to see access for all, including wheelchair users. We tried the new Craven cod, and it was awesome—plentiful, satisfying, and beautifully cooked. We also had the salmon, which was epic, and the burgers, which the boys loved. I wouldn’t go so far as to claim it’s the very best fish and chip shop in Whitby, but it’s definitely up there. Highly recommended, especially for that amazing view and thoughtful accessibility.
Richard B — Google review
A great place for seafood in Whitby. Lots of seats and dog friendly too. Really enjoyed the white bait, haddock fishcake and mussels. Highly recommended!

Dog friendly place for really good food and drinks inn heart of Whitby. We had mussels, huge portions well cooked and with lovely chips and bread for sauce dipping 👌 cod and chips very good, calamari and chips again very good, friendly service great location lots of space, live Music on a Saturday night. If you are in Whitby I would definitely recommend a visit
Simon S — Google review
A great place to dine by the harbour with a lively atmosphere. The food is delicious – the fish pie is especially good and highly recommended. It’s dog-friendly too, which makes it an even better spot to relax and enjoy a meal while taking in the views of Whitby.
Belle D — Google review
* Beautiful Balcony: The venue features an extensive balcony that wraps around the building, offering stunning panoramic views of the Whitby harbour, including the East and West Piers. This seems to be a major highlight for many visitors, who enjoy watching the boats and the general hustle and bustle of the town from this vantage point. Some reviews specifically mention being able to sit on the balcony with a drink or meal and soak in the atmosphere. * Very Spacious: Abbey Wharf is frequently described as a very spacious venue. It has a large restaurant area that can seat over 250 guests, a mezzanine level for larger parties and reservations, and a separate takeaway area. The generous space creates a relaxed atmosphere, accommodating different elements of food, drink, and live music without feeling cramped. The building itself is a Grade II listed building, formerly a covered market and then a factory, which likely contributes to its large, open layout. In addition to the balcony and spaciousness, other positive points from reviews include: * Food: A menu with a strong focus on seafood, as well as meat dishes and vegetarian/gluten-free options. The fish is sourced from local suppliers and the steaks are from a local butcher. * Drinks: A well-stocked bar with over 20 gins, its own beer brewed by Whitby Brewery, and a variety of other drinks. * Atmosphere: A relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere during the day, which becomes livelier in the evenings with live music events. It's also dog-friendly in certain areas. * Views: Beyond the balcony, the restaurant and mezzanine levels also offer great views of the harbour through panoramic windows.
Marc S — Google review
Lively atmosphere, great views. Does the basics on food well. Dog friendly. Staff seem a little over it. Expensive on the drinks and extras. Felt a touch exploited by the cost of drinks really. bar staff had lost the will to live a little… you decide on value, receipt in photo. It’s a reliable and friendly place overall - always busy.

Pub
The Endeavour is a charming and cozy pub located in Whitby, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for visitors and their furry companions. With picturesque views of the River Esk, this dog-friendly haunt provides a great selection of cask and craft ales as well as an impressive gin list with over 25 varieties to choose from.
Dropped in for a pint after wandering around town, great pub with nice variety of beers and spirits. Saw the seafood platter on the menu which the landlord then order in for us fresh for the next day. Absolutely delicious food. Really friendly staff. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

We have just stayed in the endeavor for three days. The people are lovely. Chris and Tom the bar men and the girl are brilliant very friendly people. Adam and the manageress were very friendly and helpful with where to go for breakfast. The atmosphere was brilliant in the pub all thr time. People were singing and dancing as soon as we walked in. Rooms were lovely with a nice view. Would definitely stay again

Gorgeous pub inside and out. Greeted by extremely friendly bar staff , the Aspalls cider was excellent .We ordered the cheese board and a pork pie and both were stunning, huge portions of cheese and a mountain of crackers. We polished them off though. Loved the music playlist too. Fantastic place, great atmosphere. Second day in here, fantastic they allow you to bring your own fish n chips in. Seems most of Chesterfield was in today 😁 Thank you, see you again soon.

We had a brilliant stay here in August 2025 and upon arrival were made to feel really welcome by the gent who checked us in. Our room had a great sea view and was immaculate. There was tea/coffee/kettle and we loved the fact that if we needed any more of the items provided, there was the ability to help yourself to more from the extra items placed in the corridors. We came back from a day of exploring to find live music playing and the atmosphere was fantastic, it was a great way to end our day! We will definitely be booking here again, great all round! Thanks very much!!

A truly unforgettable stay! Endeavour Whitney is a hidden gem that has completely captured our hearts. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the seamless blend of comfort, style, and hospitality. The location is absolutely perfect, offering a tranquil retreat with easy access to all the charm and excitement of the town. The accommodation itself is nothing short of exceptional. The rooms are immaculate, a testament to the meticulous care and attention to detail that is evident everywhere. We were struck by how well-equipped everything was, truly feeling like a home away from home. The beds are wonderfully comfortable, providing a perfect night's sleep after a day of exploring. And for those traveling with a furry friend, the dog-friendly policy is a huge bonus that makes the entire experience so much more enjoyable. The value for money here is incredible, offering a luxury experience without the hefty price tag. But what truly sets Endeavour Whitney apart is the genuine warmth of the staff. They are welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help, making us feel like valued guests from start to finish. In every sense, our time here was an endeavor worth making. We are already planning our return and cannot recommend this place highly enough. It's a perfect 10/10 and a must-visit for anyone looking for a truly special and memorable getaway.
Marc S — Google review
A classic family friendly pub located in a beautiful coastal town city, The Endeavour did not disappoint from the moment we walked in, polite and attentive bar staff greeted us with a smile (amazing pink hair by the way) gave us a run down thay while they had cheese boards and pub snacks on offer, they do allow you to bring in food from the local chippy, (which we did) the only provision is that you (understandably) take your rubbish with you. They even have cutlery and sauces on hand. The prices are more than reasonable, especially given busy the place gets. The pub itself holds a traditional pub/inn vibe with plenty of seating and beautifully decorated with a very local theme, that takes great pride in showing the history of the pub and it's place in Whitby! Upon our next visit to Whitby, we plan on booking a room at the Endeavour so we can experience the city and night life a little bit more! An absolute must visit!
Andrew R — Google review
Such friendly, welcoming staff. Lovely, clean room. Open fire, live music and welcoming to our elderly dog. Beverages and snacks in the room was so nice. And right in the heart if Whitby. Couldn't have asked for more. Will definitely be going back x

Brewery
Nestled in the shadow of Whitby Abbey and overlooking the North Sea, Whitby Brewery Ltd was established in 2013 by four passionate brewers. The brewery offers a selection of hand-pulled beers and operates a bottle shop. Situated next to the historic abbey, it has quickly gained local acclaim for its Yorkshire ales, which are served in various establishments around Whitby. Housed in a converted barn, the brewery's small bar serves cask beers and bottles produced on-site.
Great brewery with a tap. Popped Ina couple of times during my stay and was busy. Nice selection of on and off sales. Also do pizzas which are decent too. Close. To the abbey and a couple of handy van stops. Recommended 🍻 🍕🦇🧛‍♂️
G T — Google review
Wonderful place with really friendly staff but more importantly, fantastic beer. Would 100% recommend the Jet Black. Sampled a ‘few’ pints whilst on holiday last week and ordered a box for free delivery once I got home. A great spot overlooking the Abbey and exceptional location to view the sunset. And cheaper than most pubs in the town as well.
Mark W — Google review
Climb the stairs and reward yourself with a beer! We booked one of the tours and had a beer before we went in, nice chilled vibe. Was a warm day so outside seating was full. Tour was great, Devon made it informative and fun. £15 with 3 samples, always interesting to see behind the scenes. We went back the next day for more beer and pizza, which was so good, and is cooked really quickly! Good if you’re in a rush or just need to soak up the alcohol 😆 Everyone was really friendly, shoutout to the girl with the Beetlejuice tattoo, and the brewer and his family who we happened to share a table with 😃
Emma B — Google review
Great place to enjoy the local produce, great views, atmosphere and even a pizza! They also had some live music which was a big + to the evening, local beers were great and the views in the background could not be better! A must do in Whitby.
Enrique R — Google review
Visited the brewery tap on the most beautiful of days. The outdoor seating was the place to be, and there were lots of other guests with the same idea. The music was great and the beers were flowing. Can't think of a nicer place to be!
Tim M — Google review
Awesome venue. Was really busy when we visited even though Whitby was generally quieter than usual. Seems to get a lot of walkers. Friendly and helpful staff, great beer selection and a little shop with some merch... I got a baseball cap. Beautiful setting right opposite the Abbey, which also means there is a lot of parking just over the road.
Sean H — Google review
Make sure you come around 4-5pm, the pizzas tend to sell out by the time live music starts. You also want a nice little table where you can sit and enjoy :) we made friends and had a great time. The band on Saturday didn’t start until about an hour after 7pm. Had the Black Death stout and it was delicious! Great view of the Abbey!
Sheila T — Google review
At the back of the Abbey with an array of tasty beers and the best pizza around. Service was good and the Pizza’s arrived piping hot in good time in a beautiful location overlooking the Abbey.

The Duke of York in Whitby is a charming pub and inn with a traditional maritime decor and stunning views of the harbor and Whitby Abbey. This historic establishment offers simple yet modern rooms with free Wi-Fi, making it a comfortable choice for visitors. The pub serves classic hot meals, salads, and daily specials alongside a selection of real ales, craft beers, and fine wines.
Great pub, lovely area & atmosphere a must stop here if you go to whitby. Stopped both nights after a long walk upto the Abbey and after coastal path..lovely place. Small upstairs but area outside in the daytime and bar.
Shanneen P — Google review
The food is not the best thing about The Duke of York. It is in probably the best location in Whitby. Don’t get me wrong the food is not bad, the breakfast is especially good, but the location and the staff are even better We stayed one night and dropping off your cases took some planning as it is at the end of a pedestrianised zone. Don’t even try to drive to it when it is busy but it is worth the effort. Lots of pubs and restaurants nearby and great for a walkabout. The room was small but perfectly formed and had breathtaking views over the harbour entrance. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We will certainly try to come back
Adrian G — Google review
Recommended to have our dinner here. Lovely pub and stunning view if you have a window seat. Great service. Food we both had fish and chips, (very nice indeed) apart from the coldish mushy peas that we had. Also £2 for bread and butter, I was expecting bread and butter for a chip sandwich, but as u can see x1 chip only on 1 slice. So that x1 slice of bread and butter cost me £1. Sorry but never again. £4 for x2 slices of bread🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
H18-PDW P — Google review
Really delicious food (the minted peas are so good) and a really cosy venue with nice atmosphere. If you can get the window seat you have a gorgeous view of the seafront. Only issue is as it’s so small it’s tricky to get a table sometimes!
Emily M — Google review
We stayed here for one night and had a wonderful experience. The room was spotless, with a beautiful view and a very comfortable bed. We also enjoyed a delicious meal in the bar – the food was of a high standard and full of flavour. The staff were professional, attentive, and friendly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed for one night on a Friday, arrived and lovely welcome at the bar. When we got in to our room, the room was gorgeous and we had a beautiful view as well over the harbour. Would highly recommend and would stay here again.
Charlotte P — Google review
Stayed here for 1 night. Room was spotlessy clean and the view was beautiful. Spent a few hours in the pub Saturday night to listen to the live music. Was a great atmosphere im there. Had breakfast the Sunday morning was lovely and hot...2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 hash browns, 2 eggs, mushroom and a tomato. There was a selection of cereals, yoghurt too. Juices to choose from and toast. We were told there could be some noise in the rooms from the pub downstairs but this didnt apply to us as we were in the pub ourselves. Would definitely stay here again
Deborah C — Google review
Popped in for lunch, didn't book. Luckily, we got a table with a view of the harbour, seated next to the bar. Happy to see that they sold Neck Oil beer, bonus. We had Hand Battered Fish Ciabatta and Steak and Caramelised Onion Ciabatta with sweet potato fries, see photos. They were great. I enjoyed the steak and sweet potato fries and my wife enjoyed her fish. High chairs were a pain to get in and out of, but worth it for the view. Recommended and easy to find at the foot of the famous steps up to Whitby Abbey.

The Elsinore is a small, traditional pub on Flowergate in Whitby known for its vibrant and lively atmosphere. It's a pub that successfully caters to both locals and visitors, making it a great place to soak up the town's character. What really sets The Elsinore apart is its reputation for fantastic live music. The pub regularly hosts musicians, and the intimate setting makes for a truly engaging experience. A nice enough pub on the main street heading up the hill on the opposite side from the Abbey. It was very full when we called in around 6pm on a Thursday evening, we got some of the last seats. A modern bright interior.

Had a hilarious fun evening on Sunday. The singer/guitarist was fantastic, Ill upload his duelling banjos...Mandy and the team were so friendly and up for fun. The bouncer was the best ever.. Would love to come back when next in Whitby...

As a couple we holiday to Whitby 2/3 times a year, The Elsinore was our go to pub for entertainment and quality drinks and service. WHAT has happened , the toilets oh my god they are filthy Ladies and Gents , the whole pub looks dirty and un loved . Walking up Flowergate with the sun shinning on the windows ,they are filthy ! My hubby likes hand pulled beer , and commented that it was not to its usual standard, glass appeared stained or dirty . This may seem a damming review but I would like to to tell people it a great boozer , maybe there are reasons its nose dived ? If the owner reads this please take it in the spirit it is meant , it’s a honest review and I believe it can get back to being a good pub .

Great old pub with original features, has a character of its own, think the landlord was Phil who's got a daft sense of humour. Dogs and children not allowed after 8pm.
Pete K — Google review
Its as cosy as you could make it within the current guidelines. The staff are as friendly and attentive as you could wish for. The beer whilst a little pricey is top quality (of which i am happy to pay a premium for a properly looked after and pulled pint). No need to book just turn up and see if there is a space available. We will certainly return for a pint the next time we are in Whitby.

Middle Earth Tavern, located in Whitby, offers a warm welcome to visitors and their furry friends. The pub boasts a stunning harborside location, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the views during the summer months or cozy up by the crackling fire in winter. With a wide selection of drinks and complimentary nibbles, this traditional tavern is popular among locals and provides a beautiful space for patrons to relax.
It's a friendly pub, spacious, clean and comfortable. There's a good selection of fine ales and lagers..and food is available, but I haven't eaten there yet. There is a living coal fire, lit in the winter, giving that old world ambience. It's dog friendly too.
Jim E — Google review
Went here hoping for a hobbit style interior or at least something wizard-y or enchanting. Literally nothing to do with Tolkien or Middle Earth at all, apart from the Gollum sign outside. The jarring disappointment made the interior feel even more bland and charmless than it already was. Broken TV playing pop music to boot. Told to sit down and our orders will be taken from the table. No menu or wine list appeared so we asked for a cocktail from the sign above the bar, just an Aperol Spritz - "no, we don't do those." I see a Coke Zero sign above the window so ask for one. "No sorry, we've got diet Coke?" I settled for soda water. Positives - clean, efficient.
Wesley M — Google review
This is what we call a proper pub. It's got character and charm, a good selection of drinks, and the best name. Dogs are welcome, and given the appropriate attention. The staff and landlord were incredibly friendly, even the locals welcomed us with open arms. If we lived nearby this would be our local favourite. We'll be back very soon and couldn't recommend it enough if you're in the area.
Andy — Google review
Many similar reviews on here, but I think this pub really needs to change it's name. It's a nice pub, clean, good service and good drinks. But it has absolutely nothing to do with Lord of the Rings despite what its name, sign and posters throughout Whitby suggest. Not a single item inside that connects to the franchise or even a specialist drink or beer. Definitely feels like they are trying to pull people in with a 'hook' but then once you get there it's nothing related at all. Either lean into the theme or change it!

This is an amazing little pub a short walk from the busy hub bub of Whitby. Exceptionally friendly staff and publican. Very clean and smart with a very friendly atmosphere and seats outside with a view of the harbour and one of the heritage statues. Would thoroughly recommend this little gem.
J E — Google review
Wow what an amazing pub. Love the fact they come to serve your drinks at the table. All staff very attentive to when you need the next one bringing. Great selection of beers. Very clean inside
Dawn P — Google review
Other than the name this pub has no connection to Tolkien at all. Very disappointing. The interior feels like a working men's club from the 1970s; dismal and bleak. We tried to make the best of our visit by ordering some of the cocktails advertised behind the bar, but despite clearly having all the ingredients the staff refused to make them. We ended up with a beer (good), a wine (cheap and nasty) and a flavoured gin (cheap and bland). You can have a better experience almost anywhere else in Whitby. Best avoided.
H I — Google review
Honestly one of the worst pubs I've ever been in. You have to order from your table, and the staff force you away from the bar, so you can't see what beer is on offer. I then ordered a 2nd pint and it never came. Gutted as I love LOTR

Pub
The Granby is a popular and cozy pub in Whitby that welcomes both kids and dogs. It's a favorite among locals and tourists, offering generous portions of classic pub dishes in a laid-back setting. Situated conveniently close to the seafront and town, it's an ideal spot for families, couples, and solo travelers to enjoy good food and ale throughout the day. While it can get busy in the evenings, there are plenty of other nearby pubs to explore as well.
First time visit yesterday. Popped in for food. Staff were really friendly, food was excellent and also very reasonable. Decent beer available. Nice clean and tidy hotel and bar. Can't fault the place. Will be out go to for lunch next time we visit Whitby.
Sean H — Google review
We tried here for lunch for the first time on 15th April and the food was fantastic. We had the lasagna (homemade, cheesy, loads of flavour and a decent portion) and the mixed grill. Both dishes were top quality and very good value for money. The kids menu was also very good quality and fair value. Would definitely try again if we go to Whitby.
Ryan R — Google review
Called in on the off chance. Great friendly and welcoming pub. Good selection of main courses all very reasonably priced. We had the fish and chips and cottage pie. Could not fault either. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Donna P — Google review
We alternated between the roast pork ,roast lamb and fish and chips.. the fish when was Massive and the taste was out of this world. The roast dinners were fantastic value and was probably the best dinners ever had eating out. Nice clean and friendly atmosphere drinks were reasonably priced and in this day and age the glasses were clean.

Been coming to Whitby once a year for about 10 years & our accomodation is just up the road from The Granby, it's a lovely pub with good beers at alright prices. They do really good food, been for the breakfast a couple of times & it always hits the spot & not badly priced either. Some of the other customers that go in there are not the politest of people & their choice of conversation leaves a lot to be desired, but that's the pubs fault. We've been there on a late night as well & it's just as good on an evening as it is during the day.
Steven M — Google review
A wonderful busy pub with what appeared to be a good mix of locals and tourists. The menu is not large but has a good choice and I am guessing it helps makes service really quick and the food was great. Good selection of drinks available and a nice chatty noise and background music. Suggest booking a table like we did!
Diccon P — Google review
Good value Sunday Roast, plentiful tender meat with delicious Yorkshire pudding and meaty gravy. Roasted carrots were tasty alongside red cabbage, yet too many peas (perhaps white cabbage or broccoli could be incorporated maybe?). Mash potatoes and roast potatoes served. Traditional English pub setting - a profound difference to Wetherspoons and similar - the classic character is maintained, enhancing the experience. Drinks prices on a par with competition (£4.60-£4.90 a pint of ale/lager). Sensed a feeling we were being rushed despite only being there for 1hr10min, souring the final moments of our visit, hence the dropped star.

Pub
The Whitby Way is a traditional and lively dog-friendly pub in the heart of Whitby, offering a warm welcome to both humans and their furry friends. The cozy atmosphere, full bar area, and great selection of beers make it the perfect place to unwind after exploring the historic streets of Whitby. This long-established pub with great character also serves up delicious stone-baked pizzas and hosts live music events and open mic nights for entertainment.
Very clean pub service lass behind bar very pleasant Happy good selection of drinks loos very clean too could do with a bit of upgrade but this been said nice pub dj was getting set up good crowd in too
Angela B — Google review
Our visit to the Whitby Way was a good experience, the fish & chips were hot and delicious, the beer excellent, the surroundings clean and reasonably peaceful, but it is always a little busy around the area. The area is also interesting and busy with the fishing boats, the docks and often outside markets nearby, but it isn't too offensively noisy. All things considered, the area is interesting and busy, but also friendly and one can relax there.
Robin G — Google review
Could be a nice little pub however the main reasons it's awful is the rudeness of the female bar staff. It's a 50/50 chance if you get a welcoming what can I get you? or a hostile what do you want! Toilets are very unpleasant and technically outside so cold. Have been in 3 times now and terrible experience every time. Such a shame as it does have some great qualities. Try the Buck Inn or Little Angel for a far superior social.
Skidleyboo — Google review
I've been in the pub today, with a large group of friends, and all I can say is the service was amazing, Edward on the karaoke and Nathan behind the bar. The pub was busy and he still managed to change the barrells and makesure all the customers were happy and served, all in all a very pleasant experience and we will be sure to call in again!
Joanne L — Google review
Great pub for entertainment, reasonable priced drinks and friendly staff.
Vicki G — Google review
My husband visited the pub on Saturday 2nd August for a quick pint. He said the atmosphere was good but the big, blonde barmaid purposely ignored him ar the bar before serving numerous others when he was next in line to be served. We were here as visitors and the barmaid made sure that we knew that. 5* for atmosphere but 1* for the rude, miserable looking barmaid.

An unexpected weekend for us as all our plans were cancelled due to the weather. We came across this bar called in for one and liked the friendly atmosphere and they have live acts on as well as events in the ballroom We went back for the evening entertainment which was good and then for breakfast the following morning Good value for money and we had a great time here Looking forward to the 80s night in November 23

These picture do not do the beautiful Ballroom justice. But this was my gig there at christmas. Great room to book for parties throughout the year. It has its own Lounge which has several screen to watch sport. And fabulous entertainment in both Lounge and Ballroom. Great staff. Justin has worked and still works incredibly hard.

We called in on the off chance and what a night we had. We where entertained by a couple called Wet & Wild who appeared on The Voice, a young chap called Jamie Le and then Dean Michael (Black Lace). The place was full of locals who made us feel so welcome along with the staff. We then went back in the morning for a great full English breakfast. Would definitely recommend this place if you are in Whitby or near by.

Played a gig there last night. Had to drag my kids and partner along but Justin looked after us all so well and sorted amazing accommodation out for us. Had a great big fryup in the morning to set us up for our journey home. First time in Whitby but definitely not our last!

The Met bar is great. Located at the top end of Westcliff with amazing sea views the drink prices are reasonable and the food is great value for money. The staff are really friendly and you can bring your dog. Evening entertainment at weekends and sports on the BIG screens during the day.
Jay ( — Google review
It's a good sized space, but has a lot of wear & tear in places, especially the entrance doorway. Prices are reasonable. Evening events are best as there are plenty of atmospheric lighting hiding the sad bits. They now have some sound dampeners suspended from the ceiling. Still a good sized place & produced an adequate Funeral Tea, plenty to go round.

Whitby Pavilion is an entertainment complex with stunning views of the sea, offering a variety of arts activities and hosting private hire events. The theater, dating back to 1878, is rumored to be haunted by a mysterious ghost whose gender remains unknown. The venue also hosts the popular Whitby Goth Weekend festivals and features the interactive Dracula Experience attraction. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks with sea views and grab a coffee at the pavilion while taking in the sights of Whitby Harbour.
A fantastic music venue. This is a small theatre that provides an intimate setting with great sound and a great view. The theatre is really easy to get into and the staff are all friendly. Although the seats are not really built for anyone over six foot tall.

Good dancefloor main hall for Motown weekender. Main act on Friday Johnny Soul Boy VG. Sat poor artist and not as billed by Goldsoul. Not keen on flimsy plastic beakers, need to add another to stabilise. Also had to tell people no drinks on the dancefloor! Eventually, security stepped in to advise them....

Booked for the cinema. Downton Abbey - The Grand Finale was scheduled. As I had gathered the Pavilion was a multi use facility, I expected a small rustic establishment. How wrong was I? It is a splendid building with friendly professional staff to help newcomers find their way about. Clear instructions from these same staff members ensured we enjoyed both the film & our visit.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway, located in Whitby, England, is a well-maintained heritage railway and a popular tourist attraction. It runs between Staithes and Whitby, offering picturesque views along the way. The railway is known for being the busiest steam heritage line globally and carries a significant number of passengers. Visitors can enjoy traveling from Whitby to Pickering on this volunteer-run train throughout the year.
Very busy at Pickering station but well organised. Excellent service for people with mobility issues. Nice carriages and buffet car serving lovely coffee and some snacks. Other drinks available! Really enjoyed the journey to Whitby, lots of things to see including other steam trains, carriages, repair shop, stations on the way to Whitby of interest. When we arrived in Whitby we’ll supported getting off train and easy access to the town. On return journey again well looked after getting onto train. Able to leave mobility scooter in guard van which had easy access to carriages. Friendly staff/volunteers from car park to ticket office to train. Looking forward to our next trip.
Lynne M — Google review
Good place to visit , lots of picturesque views. Some stations didn’t get a lot of foot fall as there is bugger else around them (levisham, being one especially post the removal of the Germans from the war weekend). Goathland is normally packed as it is linked to Harry Potter and Heartbeat and there is a few nice walks and places to visit between trains.
Armholeeio — Google review
End of the line for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Only two platforms. There is a little bar here which looked quite pleasant.
Jonathan H — Google review
It's nice but a bit too expensive for what it is. Especially when the steam train is not even halfway. They swap to diesel after like 2 stops.
Tiago A — Google review
Fun day riding the steam train from Pickering to Whitby. Enjoyed the countryside. Whitby was crowded. The only downside was standing in line for an hour to make sure we had a seat on the 5:10 return train.
Patti B — Google review
Not all trains on the NYMR are steam locomotives, so it’s essential to check their website and schedule carefully before booking. They run a mix of steam and diesel trains, and only one or two steam trains may operate on any given day. Without careful planning, you might end up paying a steep price for a ride on a diesel locomotive, which can feel like a disappointment if you were expecting the charm of a steam engine. The ticket prices are quite high, especially considering the level of maintenance and facilities on the trains. Frankly, it feels like a bit of a money grab. Fortunately, we booked through a day trip operator, which offered a discounted fare. We were lucky enough to catch a steam locomotive, and the journey from Whitby to Goathland was nothing short of spectacular. The scenery is undeniably breathtaking and absolutely earns five stars—it’s a wonderful experience to glide through rolling hills, picturesque villages, and lush countryside. However, this review focuses on the NYMR railway company itself. The coaches leave much to be desired: seats and upholstery were dirty, with a noticeable odor, and the overall condition of the train was subpar for the premium price charged. The lack of maintenance is disappointing and detracts from what could otherwise be a perfect heritage railway experience. In summary, the scenery and the nostalgic charm of the steam locomotive are worth experiencing, especially if you can secure discounted tickets through a tour operator. But if you’re booking directly at full price, be prepared for underwhelming train conditions that don’t justify the cost. Five stars for the scenery, but only two stars for the overall value and upkeep of the trains.
Jay S — Google review
Would probably give zero stars but you can’t, booked over a week in advance to get the 20% discount which seemed worth doing , turns up for the 1000 service at Whitby only to find out it’s a diesel loco instead of steam, was told by the rather jumped up member of staff in the shop that we couldn’t exchange our tickets to a different day and these things can happen at short notice, the steam had been operating on days prior but the engine failed a safety test, to makes things worse the Diesel engine failed at goathland station on the way out so we all had to get off and wait making the train 50 mins late, instead of going to Pickering we had to get off at the station before and get another Diesel engine as far as grossmont then they managed to get a steam engine for the short remainder Of the journey back to Whitby, this is not cheap by any Means and really screams tourist trap rather than heritage railway, not run well at all and most of the staff have no clue what’s going on. The early discount is con because your tied in to that day whether steam runs or not. The £49.00 charge for paying on the day is extortion but If you don’t want the disappointment of no steam that’s the only choice. Could not recommend this at all. And the final bit was the jobsworth steward who wouldn’t let anyone film out of the windows. AVOID!!
C J — Google review
A great station being the start and finish of the delightful NYMR 😃
