Caverns & Caves
Bat Cave Phnom Sampov is a must-see destination in Battambang. Locals have set up tables and chairs for visitors to enjoy the spectacular view of bats flying out of the cave between 5:30 to 6 pm, while sipping on refreshing drinks. Nearby, there's a temple and killing cave that are worth visiting before witnessing the bat flight.
Very cool to see all the bats flying out. Unfortunately for us the videos and photos don’t do it justice as the bats didn’t arrive until 15 minutes after sunset at about 18:40. Would be better if it was still daylight/dusk. Don’t let that put you off though it’s still very cool to see this event. People start gathering around 17:30 waiting to see the bats

An unforgettable experience at Phnom Sampov’s Bat Cave! Visiting the Bat Cave near Battambang was one of the most magical and unexpected highlights of my trip to Cambodia. Just before sunset, I arrived at the base of Phnom Sampov and was greeted by friendly locals offering snacks and drinks while pointing me toward the best viewing spots. As the sun dipped behind the horizon, millions of bats began streaming out of the cave in a mesmerizing ribbon across the sky. It felt like watching nature’s own choreography—fluid, endless, and strangely peaceful. The spectacle lasted for nearly half an hour, and I was amazed by how organized the flow of bats seemed. The sound, the movement, and the sheer volume were breathtaking. What made it even more special was the backdrop: golden rice fields, limestone cliffs, and the silhouette of the mountaintop pagoda. I also recommend climbing Phnom Sampov earlier in the day to explore the Killing Caves and the temple at the summit. The history is sobering, but the views are worth the effort. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or just curious traveler, this place is a must-see. Bring a camera, wear comfortable shoes, and prepare to be awed.

Bat cave was a great experience… the bats were never ending! However, what I loved was climbing the mountain and seeing the beautiful view of BB from the top 🌅🌾 LOTS of people, we couldn’t get a PassApp back to our hotel as there were no drivers nearby.
Lily-Jane — Google review
Come in the evening for bats before the sunset. Has some places to drink and eat + night market. Not far from the Phnom Sampov temple and killing caves.
Kyrylo S — Google review
I didn’t stay until evening to see the bats, but the daytime visit was already beautiful! The Buddhist carvings and the giant Buddha statue on the mountain are really impressive and peaceful. The place feels calm with amazing natural scenery. It’s a nice spot to learn about local culture, take photos, and enjoy the view. I’ll come back again next time to see the bats flying out at sunset! 🌄

Saturday 11the October: Nice experience to sit and watch millions of bat's exit the cave at dusk It does get busy around the seats in front of the caves with tourists and locals Still plenty of space to enjoy nature at it's finest, well worth the visit.
Alan H — Google review
If you want to see the bat cave in Battambang, here you go! Thousands of bat flying out at the evening! You can also take a car riding to the mountain just around 2.5$-3$ per person! Local food selling around that too..
Ratha R — Google review
Great to see all the bats flying out of the caves - there’s a few bars around that you can sit at and watch them come out (get there earlier to get a seat). You don’t need to book in advance, we just paid entrance on the door. It does get very busy from 5:15/5:30pm so get there a bit before to get a good spot and not to be rushed around as the bats come out any time from 5:45-6pm

Huge restaurant with 2 levels. They have patio seating on the second level. The place was packed with a several big groups, but we didn’t wait long for our food. There was a mix of foreigners and locals dining at the restaurant. Well-portioned, and good prices. Everything tasted delicious! They also have a lot of mixed fruit shakes to choose from. Card payments are accepted!

Stunning food for a vegan- also worth mentioning the lovely and lively young people working here 😊 Nicely decorated upstairs restaurant where art deco meeets fun folded napins in all colours. I enjoyed the view from the rooftop, observing the streetlife below. It is a relief that this restaurant doesn't play music. Had a freshly pressed orange juice and a vegetarian curry with cashews and many vegetables. It was very well cooked, cut and seasoned. Highly recommended!

I ordered the pineapple cashew chicken. It was amazing. 100% would eat it again.

I have 3 time there's for the dinner with my colleagues, I love the foods. White Rose Restaurant is located at Street 2, Battambang City, Battambang Province. The restaurant is famous for its variety of Khmer and Chinese dishes, as well as some foreign dishes. Some of the popular dishes include rice cha mara prao, rice cha ka pi, grilled beef, and grilled shrimp. The restaurant has a nice, clean atmosphere and is spread over two floors. The second floor has patio seating for outdoor dining in the fresh air. The food prices are reasonable.
Seng P — Google review
Satisfied by all our food. It's very homey, it tastes authentic (I'm Khmer by the way). We're only ordered Khmer food, so I cannot speak for more western dishes (like the spaghetti? Which shouldn't even be on the menu imo). I'd also recommand their fruit shake! I loved mango/coconut, although they all taste fresh (we tried soursop, pineapple, coconut, mango, mango+coconut). The staff is very polite, caring and nice. It's a little bit on the pricey side for the locals, but still very affordable for foreigners. We've been multiple times when visiting Battambang!
Vee S — Google review
The restaurant offered a relaxed atmosphere, and the food was consistently tasty. I tried a few local dishes and was impressed with the flavors and presentation. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience more enjoyable. Even though it was busy, service was efficient, and I left feeling satisfied and happy with the meal overall.

Delicious food and great value. The lok lak was great.

White Rose, one of Battambong's few long-time remaining restaurants. We've been dining here for nearly 3 decades, and unfortunately our last 2 visits were rather disappointing. They seem to have lost their Battambong's flavors. We ordered 3 dishes and all 3 were rather bland. The fried fish didn't have enough seasonings and weren't crispy. The sour soup lacks the sourness of fresh squeezed lime and kop lacks the essence of Khmer's kreung. We informed the staff of the bland food and all they did was shrugged their shoulder.

The Lonely Tree Café, situated in the heart of Battambang, is not just a charming café but also a social enterprise that supports the local community. The ground floor operates as a shop selling traditional Khmer handicrafts made by physically disabled individuals, many of whom are victims of landmine accidents and polio. Collaborating with the NGO S.A.U.C.E., this café contributes to education, healthcare, and disability services for rural Battambang residents.
Lovely quaint cafe with delicious food. I had the iced cappuccino and avo breakfast sandwich and they both tasted so good I ordered the same thing a second time. Service is great and the cafe has beautiful decor highlighting the wonderful Khmer culture. The cafe also supports young people with a disability to find work and income. Highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant on the first floor. There are stools overlooking the street and tables further in. We went for lunch and then returned in the evening. The gin and tonic I had on the lunch time was full of ice and didn't taste at all of gin even when I had a shot added. Stuck to wine in the evening. The garlic prawns and the mushroom dumplings were delicious. It was disappointing that "coated aubergine" was actually battered. The caesar salad dressing was nothing like authentic but I am in Cambodia! We also ate stir fry chicken and pork. Cards are accepted. Can be difficult to get attention.
Jane M — Google review
A lovely cafe restaurant above a gift shop. Beautiful food at a very affordable price. A great atmosphere and equally great service. The gift shop has many gift items made by people with disabilities. Highly recommended.

We came here twice for hot drinks and cakes. The cakes (chocolate fondant, apple tart and key lime pie) were amazing. The apple tart with a scoop of ice cream especially was delicious, and a real taste of home. They also have good wifi, so it's a good place to catch up on life admin. Very friendly staff. They didn't have black tea but were happy to give me hot water and milk so I could make one with my own tea bag ($0.50 for the milk).

We had an enchanting experience at the Lonely Tree Cafe, captivated by the charming shop filled with local treasures. Our journey took a delightful turn as we purchased a stunning bracelet, marking our travels. Ascending upstairs to the cafe, we were greeted by exquisite decor and two enchanting outdoor spaces. Sipping on refreshing iced coffees and indulging in delectable cheesecake, the experience was a treat for the senses. The staff's kindness, coupled with the superb interior, made it an exceptional visit. The cafe's commitment to social enterprise adds an admirable layer to its allure. Without a doubt, a must-visit gem.

Best cold beer in town. Lovely staff, great view from the 1st floor of a classic Asian Shop house. Good range of Handicrafts on the first floor. Supports handicapped Cambodians. Great

A beautifully decorated restaurant with plenty of seating on the second floor. The first floor is a shop with clothes, postcards, and other little treasures. Prices are on the higher end but you are paying towards an organization. We ate breakfast there and it was not anything spectacular but we were happy to be supporting a great cause. We came on a Wednesday afternoon, and the place was nearly empty. Note: Cards are accepted

Market
Battambang Central Market, also known as Psar Nat, is situated in the heart of the city and serves as the primary hub for a wide array of goods including food and household items. Visitors can immerse themselves in local culture by enjoying a traditional Cambodian breakfast at one of the market's small eateries. The town itself boasts a charming blend of French colonial architecture, lively cafes, art galleries, and boutique shops along the Sangkae River.
Large market with a huge selection of products Does get a bit crowded and warm, but its open on all sides for a quick escape to cool down
Alan H — Google review
There are many markets in Battambang but this is the biggest. There are different sections from clothes, jewellery, cosmetics, eatery to fresh produce. Eating here is pocket friendly but can get hot and stuffy. As you know, all markets are similar. If you need to buy, then you need to be there. This market is not really crowded.
Lee K — Google review
Battambang Central Market, also known as Phsar Nath (ផ្សារណាត់), is a major hub of local life in Battambang. More than just a place to shop, it's a vibrant and authentic cultural experience that reflects the city's history and daily rhythms. French Colonial Influence: The market building is a significant architectural landmark, built in the 1930s under French colonial administration. Its Art Deco style is similar to the famous Central Market in Phnom Penh, as it was designed by the same French architects. Food Stalls: The market is a fantastic place to sample local Cambodian cuisine. You'll find numerous food stalls serving affordable and authentic dishes like noodles, sticky rice cakes, and other traditional snacks.

No fun at all. Some pretty fabrics, mostly made in Bangladesh- but it's downright racist the way they scam the very few tourists so cunningly and with glee. Imagine if you came to my country and because you have brown eyes - we try to make you pay 100% more than us and then laugh at you for reacting. Shame on you! I speak Khmer- I know what you called me and how you talked between yourself about me, especially the women selling fruit and those selling fabrics!
Åse I — Google review
Cool market with varied food. We went there to buy materials for our cooking lesson and it qas a lot of fun. Also, side note, but the insect food variety was the best I ever tasted.
Algwins — Google review
A nice , historical place. Undergoing streets renovation , pretty dusty those days. The buildings nice but old and in bad shape. A day is more all you need to visit the center. Maybe less.
Alexandru O — Google review
As the name might suggest, this is the most centrally located and largest market in Battambang. In my opinion, it is one of the better markets in Cambodia. It has a wide selection of typical market items, like fresh produce and meats, jewelry, clothes, religious items and beauty supplies. It avoids the extremes of either excessive touristy artificiality (like PP's Central Market with its high prices and Chinese-made "Cambodian" souvenirs) or dirtiness (like some of the other BTB markets). Pro Tip BTB Central is especially a great place to have breakfast or lunch at the food court in the centre of the market. But be forewarned that the market closes early, usually 6:00PM or so
Sinay's R — Google review

The restaurant has received positive reviews for its delicious meals and variety of coffee and original drinks. With a focus on healthy Cambodian food, it's known for providing an excellent dining experience.
I did a cooking class with Lily and his wife Savath, it was perfect! We went to the market to learn a little bit about their culture, then back to the restaurant to make all the dishes. Everything was explained super clear, with vegetarian and vegan substitutes. They also gave some Western substitute options in case we want to make the recipes at home. The atmosphere was super nice, I really enjoyed my time there, and everything turned out so delicious!! Highly recommend!

I went into this Khmer restaurant and I loved it. It’s a cute, clean, family-run spot, and the staff is super friendly. The food was amazing and everything was made fresh. I had a mango salad that was exactly how I like it—balanced perfectly without that overpowering vinegar you sometimes get. The fish amok was really tasty too; the fish was fresh and the gravy was creamy and full of flavor. I also enjoyed the freshly made fried banana rolls and a cup of black coffee. Another plus is that the lime juice is made fresh (not just a syrup), and I could order it unsweetened. And they have Wifi which is another plus, as I had to do some work. I didn’t attend, but I read that they offer cooking classes as well. Highly recommend checking it out when you are in Battambang.

I attended a cooking class with my family a few days ago. Both Lyly and his wife were really friendly, open and had a lot of knowledge which they shared with us. We had a great time going to the local market, cooking and chatting with the family. And the food was delicious! Also the team was open for our special vegan and vegetarian wishes, which made our experience perfect. Thank you!

Gorgeous food! A lovely family run business. Gutted we could only eat here for one night as we had great food. It was my first time trying tofu Lok Lak it was really tasty (a hint of bbq flavour). My friends really enjoyed their chicken Amok curry too. I’d defo recommend here if you’re in the area. They do a cooking class here for €19 p/p which we wish we had time to do as it looked so wholesome.

We have had an amazing experience. We went to the cooking class and after deciding which meals we wanted to cook, Lyly took us to the market and explained to us different things while offering us a snack for breakfast from the market. Then, Savath led us throughout the amazing cooking class while sharing with us information about traditions and culture in Cambodia. Then we ate what we had cooked: 3 meals and the dessert, provided with rice and as much bottled water as we needed. Both of them have been very kind and it has been such a nice and fun experience. We truly recommend it to everyone!!

The restaurant has received positive reviews and is recommended for those looking to experience authentic local food in the area. Additionally, Nary Kitchen also offers cooking classes, making it an ideal destination for food enthusiasts looking to learn about Cambodian culinary traditions.
Had a great time at the cooking class - had a group of 7, and it was lots of fun. Toot was very amusing and explained all of the ingredients and what we were doing, all while being silly and goofy. You of course eat what you make and it was a filling meal! The menu is set for each class and you can make anything vegetarian or vegan but you need to speak up, because the standard recipes are with shrimp paste and meat/fish.
William R — Google review
An absolute incredible night with Toot & his family in their family restaurant. Toot kindly invites guests into his kitchen to become chefs for the night in their cooking lessons. For only $15 it is absolutely incredible. First we was taken to the local market to pick up fresh ingredients for our meal & was given a lesson on local produce by his Son, Canon. He spoke amazing english, was engaging & very happy to ask questions. We then went back to the restaurant to start our cooking lessons. The quality of ingredients offered was unbelievable for the cost of the lesson. Beautiful fresh spices, meat, fish & even utensils were unmatched. This place is the cleanest kitchen I’ve seen throughout Asia. The family is truly proud of their restaurant & it shows. We was taken step by step each step for each course. Everything made by hand down to the littlest detail. I cannot recommend Toots restaurant & his cooking class enough. Absolutely amazing. You should be so proud of your restaurant❤️

Absolutely amazing food and service! The owner Toon and his family are so kind, friendly, and of course excellent cooks and teachers! I took the cooking class and absolutely loved it. I appreciated how they were able to accommodate me as a vegetarian. I liked how we went to the market to get the ingredients. The cooking class itself was just such a cool experience! I went for lunch a few days later and the owner’s son was so kind. Everything is made from scratch and their vegetarian options (especially their Khmer curry) is DELICIOUS! I 100% this place! To add, I don’t eat boiled rice, so they were able to substitute with rice noodles, which were so delicious!

This restaurant was located right next door to our accommodation in Battambang. We visited here on multiple occasions as the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Toot the owner was also super friendly and stopped to talk about his restaurant and Battambang. We decided to take part in his cooking class- costing $15 per person. This was a wonderful experience starting with a trip to the local market to see the ingredients we would be using and have it all explained to us as some of the ingredients are very different to what we get in the UK. Then we cooked spring rolls, Amok, Lok Lak and a banana dessert. Toot took the time to explain each of the ingredients and explain the importance in Khmer cuisine. His level of English was exceptional and he was clearly very passionate about cooking. Overall I would recommend here for a good wholesome Khmer meal and definitely for the cooking class.

What a fantastic experience, cooking with Nary. A brilliant and informative visit to the market followed by an ace cooking lesson with Nary. The techniques were easy and fun but the food was so delicious. Brilliant value for money. Id definitely recommend this, if you're in town.

I discovered this hidden gem by accident and loved it so much that I extended my stay. They offer rustic, wooden cabins that have everything you need, right in the middle of nature and alongside the river. You can use the kayaks freely and paddle the loop around Paradise Island. A quiet little spot out of town that has a delightful restaurant and bar that overlooks the river. Nary Garden is a family business and the staff are so welcoming and friendly, attending to your every need. I can’t wait to return!

This is an ABSOLUTE must when in Battambang. The phare “campus” is packed with great energy and the show just keeps delivering. Get into the tent around 18:45-18:50 and get some education on phare and why and how it all started, and why there’s a giant Guinness sign in the campus. And please leave a donation at the end. Tips: Drinks from the cafe can be brought into the show, and since it will be warm it is nice to hydrate a little. Many hotels sell tickets/vouchers, saves you from cash payments and just add to the hotel bill They sell shirts, drawing, paintings and lots more that help support the cause Tips = donation And to all volunteers, thank you!

Great performance by the students of Phare circus. Even though their moves/stunts are not always perfect but their effort and determination are admirable. You can also book for a school tour in the day and come see the show in the evening at 7pm. It’s a great way to support these kids so that they can have good education and learn a skills which they can make a living.

Watched both siem reap circus(by professional graduates) and batambong circus(by undergraduate). Batambang Circus; performers make mistakes on stage, but the audience love the entertainment. Performers will make the show comical and very candid about it. Love it! The instruments are made of pipes, Slippers, pot and pans. So creative! If you want a PERFECT performance, don't go. Bare in mind performers are taught with limited resources and from difficult situations. Support the circus school which provide Free education and a livelihood skills to the community.

Indulge in their popular chicken tikka tandoori or the rich butter chicken for a taste sensation that will linger long after your meal.
The Flavours of India certainly was, very authentic, all delicious and cooked to perfection, the fish tikka was so tasty. complimentary papads and pickles. big spacious restaurant with friendly staff. would highly recommend.

The food at this restaurant was absolutely delicious, with rich flavors and authentic Indian taste. I truly enjoyed the meal! However, the service could use some improvement. While the staff was very friendly, it took more than half an hour for my tomato soup to arrive, even though the restaurant wasn’t too busy. It would be great to see a bit more efficiency in serving food so that guests can fully enjoy the experience without long waits. That said, the quality of the food makes this place worth visiting, and with a little improvement in service speed, it could be an exceptional dining spot. Looking forward to coming back and seeing how they grow!

Some of the best Indian food we have had in cambodia. Chicken Tikka masala had great flavor. Juicy chicken. Butter chicken was great. Creamy and lots of flavor. Mutton saag was really good too. Butter and garlic naan both good but Butter taste better. Tandoori chicken was Juicy too. Really impressed. The draft beer was a bit flat but the staff are super friendly and nice. Would go again. Check it out if you are in the area.

One of my go-to places in town. I especially love the fish tikka - sea bass. Beautifully spiced and chunky. They usually bring nibbles to snack on while I'm waiting for the meal though as I usually go in they day the service is fast anyway. They made me a salt lassi, a fave of mine, though it's not on the menu.

Fancied something different whilst been traveling for quite a few weeks. I’ve not had an Indian in ages so thought I would give this one a go after reading the reviews. I had the chicken vindaloo, Jeera rice and a minced chicken naan with 3 beers. Came to an amazing total of $11.50. Hours he price one one furry back home. I wasn’t expecting its to be as good as It was, the vindaloo was not as hot as I am usually used too but it was a cross between a madras and spicy tikka. But for a curry over here I was impressed. The rice portion was tasty and huge and the naan was lovely too

Only Indian / Nepalese restaurant in Battambang. Food is okay, but could not expect the consistency! That’s bit weird! 😔 Tired various dishes, and could only recommend chicken briyani and few other chicken dishes! Beers and few other alcohols there, though draft beer is recommended. Parking is just in front of the shop, could accommodate about 2 vehicles, may need to park other side of the road if the slots are available. Be clear with your order queries, you may ended up with surprises otherwise 😉 Enjoy!

I’m gutted to leave this review because I loved the taste of the food - but I’m pretty sure that’s where I got food poisoning. I ate here twice and I was fine the first time so there’s a chance it was a one time thing. The food tasted great though so I guess you can make up your own mind.

We visited Flavours of India on 10th May, and I must say—the food was absolutely top-notch! Just as we were about to leave, our vehicle encountered a problem. To our surprise and relief, the restaurant staff went above and beyond to assist us, even at 11 PM—something our accommodation couldn’t manage due to the late hour. A heartfelt thank you to the manager and the kind lady on duty that night for their exceptional support. Your help truly meant a lot!

WoodHouse Restaurant and Bar in Battambang Province is a great spot for both Western and Cambodian cuisine. The restaurant offers ice-cold beers, good French wine, coffee, and tea. The manager, who speaks English and a bit of French, ensures a pleasant dining experience with clean facilities and free WiFi. While the steak is typically served quite rare unless specified otherwise, the food is made fresh. However, some guests have encountered issues with smoking on the premises.
We really enjoyed the food. So delicious and the staff were really nice. We’re looking forward to come back 🤩

Having looked for places with good reviews we decided on this place. With a menu of both Western and Khmer dishes, there was a lot of choice. We tried the fried eggplant with pork and rice and, on the recommendation of a gentleman at the bar, also ordered the lasagna. We were glad we did because it was excellent. Very flavourful with quality ingredients and nicely cooked pasta sheets. The fried eggplant was delicious too. Prices were reasonable, staff were friendly, and all round satisfying experience and we may well return. NB: We did return and had the pasta aglio e olio and the beef chopsteak and fries. The pasta was absolutely delicious, cooked al dente and so flavourful for such a simple dish. The chopsteak was similar to the hamburger steak you get in Japan. Essentially two bunless burgers, with a sauce served on top. It was also good. I've been so impressed with the Italian dishes here in particular.

Was walking by and saw them open so I stopped for dinner. Food was great! But what really brought me to the reviews was my experience. This restaurant has a beautifully selected menu with a full bar. While sitting at the bar top eating, the owner, also seated at the bar, started a conversation that would last hours. That's my experience -- color traveler who had such an enjoyable mealtime and conversation. He was so delightful and kind and fun to talk to. I ended up staying until closing just chatting. He and his staff have a place that brought in both tourists and locals alike. Definitely a place I recommend if you're in the area!!

Good restaurant serving both Cambodian and Western food. Ice cold beers and good French wine available by the glass. Coffee and tea also. Manger is Cambodian but speaks good English and a little French. I’ve been here a few times over a number of years when I visit Battambang. Nice atmosphere, background music and very clean tables and toilet facilities. Good free WiFi. Breakfast, lunch or dinner the food is made fresh which is what I enjoy. Single people like me, couples or large groups all seem to go there, but i guess best to warn them before if you have a very large group.

This is an awesome place for Western food. It took them about half an hour to take our order, cook the food and bring it out. Their steak was average by US standards, but very good by local standards. The only problem I had with them was, they cook their steak very rare by default. It did not occur to me to ask them to make it at least medium until I already had the steak in front of me. Keep that in mind off you e eat there. If you don't specify how you want it, they automatically make it quite rare.

Kinyei Cafe is a popular dining spot in Battambang, Cambodia, offering great breakfast and brunch options. Located just outside the town center, it provides a picturesque setting surrounded by rice fields and local farmers near an ancient village and bamboo houses. The cafe is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with happy hour starting at 3 p.m. In addition to serving delicious meals, Kinyei Cafe also functions as an art gallery.
Thank you! We came here twice in one day we enjoyed the food & atmosphere so much. I would recommend the passion fruit cake! The cafe alone is worth visiting, but especially as Kinyei sources responsibly grown coffee in SE Asia & is a social enterprise.

Kinyei Café is an excellent choice for breakfast, especially if you’re craving Western dishes. They offer a delicious selection, including bacon, eggs, and other classic morning favorites. Plus, their coffee is top-notch, making it the perfect spot to start your day with a great meal and a quality brew.

Great cafe, had breakfast there twice in a row. Eggs benedict and Pancakes were both very good. Best flat white ive had in Cambodia too. Highly recommend. Nice to support a social enterprise and the staff are very friendly too.

First cafe I tried in battambang and I’m sure it’s one of the best in town! Delicious food and drinks! I love their Kinyei style omellete with salad! Serving is super big for one and I thought I wouldn’t finish but it’s so damn good that I wanna come back for breakfast everyday! I’m sure other food are great too! Hot chocolate is a lil bit sweet but it is so rich and I would love to reorder but much less sugar! Ambiance is so nice, rusty and traditional look upstairs, just no AC if you are looking for one. So best time to go there early in the morning or from the evening!

Lovely atmosphere and good western breakfast and lunch food. Prices are what you would expect for western food but I was very happy with the salmon bagel that I got. The coffee is good too, and staff are friendly. Calm and pretty place to work for a bit as well.

Loved this little spot hidden away in the corner of street 1.5. The staff was brilliant, all students who partly work there to practise their English so we had some lovely conversations with them. The breakfast burrito was probably the largest burrito I've ever seen and delicious. Coffee was really good too, some of the best we've had in Cambodia. Highly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch.

The perfect spot to relax or work in the morning. Everyone is very nice, and the breakfast with toast and scrambled eggs is just perfect (2.75$) I am adamant to review the coffee as I found it too strong for my taste, too dark roasted and hard to finish, but it has been a consistent experience in Cambodia (2.15$)

Cambodian restaurant
Battambang Corner Restaurant offers extended operating hours, delectable cuisine, and affordable prices (with most dishes priced below $3.50, which is particularly noteworthy for the area). The establishment boasts ample seating to accommodate its customers. A favorite among patrons is the beef stew served with bread, featuring generous portions of vegetables and meat. The fruit smoothies are not to be missed as they are truly outstanding. Although the service could be more pleasant, it is understandable given their long working hours.
Such a great restaurant. The place is big with lots of seating. The menu is extensive, with over 100 items to choose from (mostly Asian dishes) and any combination of fruit shakes you can think of. Big portions, inexpensive prices, and the food was served quickly. There were only 2 workers when we were there and they were both very nice. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious meal! Only downside is that they don’t have AC, but plenty of fans and only accepts cash.

I ate here for dinner two nights in a row. The food is reasonably priced for backpackers, fried rice is $3 with meat, curry and beef stew are $2.5 with meat. The smoothies are amazing, and only $1.25 - recommend the mango, pineapple & banana smoothie.

Great restaurant with reasonable prices. I think the breakfast menu was definitely over priced. I however came for lunch and dinner instead. The smoothies were delicious. Food was decent also. It’s an ok restaurant for backpackers on a budget to visit. Good selection on the menu.

It is a ok restaurant. Menu is not easy to identify ruck of explanation. Sometimes it good, some times is just eatable. But at least we went there almost every day while staying in Battanban 2week.

Open long hours, good food, good prices (most dishes are under $3.50 which is great for the area), lots of seating available. The beef stew with bread was a favourite of mine. Portions are large, full of veg and meat. Can't skip on the fruit smoothies - they're amazing. Service was quick. Sure, they could be nicer but they work super long hours so I don't blame them. No issue for me personally. Chinese fried noodles with veg and chicken pictured.

Bamboo Train Battambang

Railway services
When visiting Battambang, one of the must-try experiences is the Bamboo Train. This unique attraction offers a fun and inexpensive way to explore the countryside while enjoying the breeze on your face. The open bamboo platform rides along an old track, providing a glimpse of rural life. It's important to note that there are multiple bamboo train locations in the area, so be sure to visit the original one near the city. The ride typically lasts around 30 minutes and costs 10 USD per person.
I had low expectations for the bamboo train due to all the negative reviews. But I had a free day to explore and figured might as well try it. My girlfriend and I absolutely loved it. We had the whole train to ourselves. Not another tourist in sight. We were here during low tourist season. Yes, it can get really loud, but it didn't bother us. I can see why it would, though, if you have sensitive ears. It doesn't feel like the safest thing in the world. In fact, when we took off the first time and accelerated to max speed, I was sure we were going to fly off the tracks. But that's all part of the experience. A lot of people talk about being exposed to the sun the entire time, and yeah, I can see how that wouldn't be much fun. Fortunately, for us, it was overcast during the first 90 percent of the ride. The final 10 percent it rained like crazy on us. We got drenched, but it was such a fun experience. No one asked for a tip, but in retrospect, I wish I had given one. Our driver was super friendly. The end happened so fast. They were quickly breaking the train down and running to cover while we were simultaneously running to a tuk tuk. By the time I thought about tipping, we were already on the road heading home. A lot of people talk about being pressured to tip. I don't think that's okay, but I do think a tip is definitely warranted. The locals totally deserve it. I still feel really bad that I didn't tip myself. 😢
Zak — Google review
Not at all what I would imagine a ‘bamboo train’ to look like. Powered by a motor, so it’s incredibly loud and not relaxing. It doesn’t take you anywhere particularly interesting. For $5 there are much more fun things to do in the area. This was a massive waste of time for me.
Jamie N — Google review
During my weekend in Battambang, this was my favorite thing. The ingenuity of the Khmer people to use the train tracks for their personal use with just a flat frame, some wheels and a motor is awesome. I loved the the ride and I love the out of the box thinking they people did.
Brian P — Google review
Such a fun way to see Cambodia. We came in late September, nearing the end of rainy season, so it was especially green and beautiful!! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen or bring a hat ☀️🌾🛤️🇰🇭

The Bamboo Train is definitely a novelty visit. Expected something a little more than seeing the back of properties though. Still made a nice break from travelling from sire to site. Very clever use of what they have
Alan H — Google review
Such a fun activity in Battambang - take a ride on the bamboo trains. It lasts around 30 mins and you get to see some lovely views across rice fields and local villages. It costs $5 per person to ride - they do encourage you tip the driver at the end so be prepared for this as some groups were caught off guard with this. Bring a hat / sunnies / sun cream - it is out in the open and no shade. Lots of fun though and worth doing when visiting Battambang
Eloise C — Google review
The ride takes about 30 minutes and runs on an active train track, which adds a bit of excitement. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. It’s overpriced, poorly organised, and constantly interrupted—you have to stop mid-ride, get off, while thet physically remove your cart to let others pass. Worst of all, at the end they demand a tip, and when someone in our group gave one, they said it wasn’t enough and asked for more. You’re better off grabbing a coffee at the train café and watching the carts and trains go by from the bridge (see video)
Connor M — Google review
Such a cool experience riding the bamboo train! I thought it would be slow, but it’s actually not at all and it’s completely safe. The 30-minute ride is so much fun! It costs $2.50 for Khmer and $5 for foreigners, or you can get a private bamboo train for just $10. Don’t forget to leave a tip, they always appreciated. Definitely don’t miss this place!

Step into the past with a visit to Mrs. Bun Roeung’s Ancient House, one of the few heritage houses in Wat Kor village, Cambodia. This stilted wooden house, surrounded by lush orchards and palm trees, offers tours in English and French. The 100-year-old house is filled with family artifacts and vintage furniture, providing a glimpse into traditional Cambodian living. Visitors can explore the ancient kitchenware from the 1900s and learn about Khmer livelihood at that time.
Lots of history shared by the host during my visit. It was bittersweet knowing that so many people used this amazing house as the only source for water during Khymer Rouge reign of terror.

Phenomenal sad story of the background but a testament to the resilience of the modern day survivors. Good short history tour of background of styles of houses. Worth a visit.
Mick C — Google review
I was kindly shown around individually by the owner to save me waiting for 40 minutes for the next group to arrive. It cost $2 which I thought was reasonable. It took about 20 minutes to tell me about the place and then I was free to wander around on my own and take photos. I was not pressured into buying any souvenirs. The house is old and was built in 1920 so we would not call it ancient; something slightly amiss with the translation. It was interesting but do not make it a priority. Fit it in if you have nothing else to see.
Ian M — Google review
+ The house is extremely old, yet magnificent, and it's a real chance to be able to visit such a beautiful architecture, filled with ancient artefacts. - The unpleasant part was the way we were absolutely rushed through a mechanical 7 minutes top visit (with absolutely no other visitor around), and given a presentation uttered robot like, emotionless. We weren't authorised to take photos while the woman was talking, and ordered to do so after she would be done. I'm not sure we saw the whole house, as there are pics of an ancient bed in the previous reviews, that never appeared while visiting. I bought a small Khmer scarf in the shop section for my son, so maybe that's why we weren't asked the 2 dollars previous reviews mention as a "mandatory fee". Overall and even though the visit could be rushed, I would still recommend it for the sake of this well preserved traditional rich Khmer house. But how wonderful it would be to feel that the guide was actually pleased to share its History...
Gabrielle N — Google review
The owners are really nice and they describe briefly about the history of the house really well. The entrance is free, but you can buy some souvenirs or donate to support them. I am really interesting in their old furnitures.

It has the real life painting on the external walls and stucco carvings which are impressive and storytelling of Khmer ancient epic like Ramayana.

A century-old pagoda of this scale is so rare nowadays in Cambodia. The pagoda was stunningly quaint and colorful. When we visited, it was locked, but be sure to kindly ask the local monks or security in the area and they’ll gladly invite you in. This historic building was magnificent and the architecture is out of this world. The security man was charming and he’ll even tell you a bit more history of the place. Honestly, you really haven’t visited Battambang if you never been to this pagoda.

One of my favorite pagoda/temple complexes in Battambang. It is a quiet oasis near the centre of the city. It features a variety of unique statuary, some quite obvious in meaning, and others based on stories of which I am unaware. In the monks' housing area, there is a very nice drink shop and garden/cemetery area. The entrance of the Angkor Comfort Hotel side is especially impressive with a stupa built in almost lego-block style and a hidden area of statuary among jackfruit trees. The perfect temple complex for exploration and photo taking in the downtown area.

Ristorante Italiano is a small and cozy restaurant in Battambang that offers excellent homely prepared Italian cuisine. The friendly staff and clean, cozy ambiance make it a regular go-to place for many. The Christmas pizza, salads, and toasted bread with tomatoes in a spicy sauce are highly recommended dishes. Despite the simple presentation of the pizza, the taste is outstanding. The restaurant is known for serving the best pizza in Battambang and offers plenty of vegetarian options as well.
Wow what an incredible find. After reading the reviews they are all correct. Imagine authentic Italian food in of all places Battambang Cambodia. Quality fresh ingredients. Free soup and bread jugs of water too. We both had the special roast beef for him and the ultimate delicious 😋 smoked duck for me. With a glass of white wine. Sad we couldn't fit desserts in. Great local prices too. Want to go back for the pasta now.

This restaurant offers a unique menu that isn't found in other Italian establishments. The food is delicious, with generous portions at reasonable prices. However, during the rainy season, it's a good idea to bring insect repellent, as small flies may be present in the evening.

A wonderful environment the music and the food were wonderful and bohemian We had all the pasta sauce in the menú one better that the other The meat so tender . We were looking forward visiting and the experience keep up to out expectations 💕

On of my regular go-to places for good size servings of fresh, delicious food. Always well seasoned and authentic Italian flavours. Daily specials are varied, interesting and always a great deal. One of the few places I can get a steak when I'm craving :)

Ristorante Italiano is situated over the river from the Old quarter, off a side street opposite the river. A very varied menu, we had craved a bit of Western style food, and this restaurant did not disappoint! Upon arrival, we were served complimentary vegetable soup, which was very tasty. The specials board was shown to us, which changed between our two visits. The pizzas are great, and my partner enjoyed the beef, but undoubtedly, the star of the show is the pasta. Both of us loved the gorgonzola fettuccine. It was rich, creamy, and peppery. It was easily one of the best pasta dishes I have had outside of Italy. Very reasonably priced, and they even had lemon cello!

Authentic Italian food, from two Italian hosts who are extremely friendly and serve great food. The Oxtail was very delicious and I would definitely recommend it, aswell as all their pastas and pizzas.

My regular go to place here in Battambang. Excellent homely prepared Italian cuisines. Owners and the team are super friendly :) Clean and cosy ambience. Hands down, this restaurant serves the best pizza in Battambang. And a lot of vegetarian options too. Cheers 🥂

Best Italian restaurant in Cambodia and probably the whole of Southeast Asia, if you want to try real Italian cuisine at fair prices.

Nestled along the banks of the Sangker River in Battambang, The River is a charming open-air restaurant and bar that offers a diverse menu featuring both Western and Khmer cuisine at affordable prices. With comfortable seating under the stars, patrons can enjoy a selection of Cambodian snacks and meals as well as some Western options. While service may be inconsistent at times, the riverside setting provides a lovely spot to unwind with a drink while taking in the sunset.
Battambang is a world's renowned province for cleaness, gentle people and delicious foods

If you're looking for a spot with great views in Battambang, this riverside restaurant is worth checking out. The view of the river and bridge, especially at night, is really nice and makes for a relaxing atmosphere. As for the food, it’s okay—not bad, but nothing special either. It’s a good place to hang out if you want to enjoy the scenery and chill, but probably not the best choice if you’re after an amazing meal. I’d recommend going in the evening, ordering a drink, and just soaking in the view.
Fachri J — Google review
One of the few places in Battambang where you can enjoy a drink right on the riverbank. A nice place, and very reasonably priced. Service was a little patchy, but if you wave for long enough they'll look up from their phones and get to you in the end. Didn't try the food.

Great open air bar/restaurant by the river. Come at sunset for a cheap draught beer and a bite to eat.

A lovely setting on the river. Had a great tasty seafood salad and mixed veg in oyster sauce. Tasty and fresh. Very relaxing setting and friendly staff. English menu

A great open air restaurant next to the river. Staff nice, Food was very good and tasty, quite well priced, good variety. The main problem with open air restaurants in Cambodia 🇰🇭 is the bugs 🐜. Many ants and flies.

Battambang Resort is a refined hotel located just outside the center of Battambang Town, surrounded by picturesque rice fields and local farmers. The resort offers understated rooms, an outdoor saltwater pool, and a hot tub for relaxation. Guests can enjoy healthy Cambodian breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Despite the drop in tourist numbers due to COVID-19, Battambang remains an attractive destination known for its artistic hub and beautiful countryside.
What a wonderful little place. We stayed in November while it was above hot for the time of year. If you’re reading more reviews I’ll leave out all that everyone is saying how great this resort is. It really is fantastic. Great pool, spacious rooms, great ac, good food etc etc. I think the only downside to mention like others also did, the water pressure is sub par. But if that’s all there is to comment, you can count on people coming back for more. Lovely security cat too.

What a paradise hotel! Beautifully located, peaceful swimming pool, spatious rooms and very tasty food from the authentic Khmer cuisine as well as some western dishes. Also worth mentioning: excellent service and exceptionally friendly personnel, always ready to assist in anything you inquire. If you’re new to Battambang I recommend staying at least 2-3 nights to have enough time to visit the highlights (e.g. city centre, Killing Caves) but also to enjoy what the hotel has to offer.

What a beautiful hotel. It is a little haven. We were able to totally unwind and relax. The service is excellent and the food is delicious and affordable. The breakfast is the best we have had at any hotel. The rooms are beautiful. I would highly recommend a lake view room.

Very nice resort, peacefull, very good and friendly service, nice meal. Highly recomended to relax and visit the area. We only regret that we planned only 2 nights, for sure would be worth to stay longer to enjoy the place and visit the area.

We had a great stay at Battambang Resort—an excellent hotel with a peaceful setting just outside the town. The pool was clean and perfect for cooling off, and the rooms were spacious and well-maintained. We stayed in both garden and lakeview rooms, and would definitely recommend going for the lakeview if available—much nicer outlook and atmosphere. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was tasty. A small note: portions at lunch and dinner could be a little more generous. We also had a minor issue with electricity in one room, but it was fixed very quickly by the staff, which we appreciated. A lovely bonus for families was the mini golf course—our kids loved it, and we ended up playing three times! As for Battambang town itself, we weren’t hugely inspired by it, so wouldn’t recommend spending too long there. The resort, however, was a real highlight—calm, welcoming, and a great place to relax. Would definitely recommend for families or anyone wanting a quieter base with great service.

Can’t comment on the rooms as we only came for drinks and dinner, but the service and food was delicious! The generous options of yummy and reasonably priced Belgian beers was a plus. I highly recommend the fish amok.

Very comfortable stay. Lovely pool. Food was excellent. Bathroom was clean. Nice to get away. We would visit again!

I think I will not forget this resort so quick. Super friendly, kind and inviting couple own the resort. Me and my family felt super welcomed all the time. The sleeping apartments and the food at the restaurant was very good, I can highly recommend. You will enjoy this place for sure! I already miss this place and I have to say, especially the very sweet receptionist girl who kept me smiling. Kind regards from Germany! See you soon Kevin :)
