Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Zoo Zagreb, located within Maksimir Park, is a sprawling zoo that houses a diverse array of animals from around the world. Visitors can observe lions, lemurs, red pandas, capybaras, tapirs, wolves, wallabies, as well as an extensive variety of birds, fish, reptiles and insects. The zoo also features educational talks and feedings for an immersive experience. Additionally, there's a small petting zoo where children can interact with goats and sheep.
A very well-maintained Zoo, a green oasis with good spaces for the animals. Even during the warmer part of the day, the lush surroundings offer coolness and shade. The park is relatively large in terms of surface area, with canals and islands, and borders Park Maksimir. Among the interesting animals is the red panda, which is not so common to see. The price to visit the zoo is almost laughably low - 4 euros for an adult. Taking the tram here from the central parts of Zagreb is easy, there are stops outside the main entrance. The journey takes 10 minutes. Well-stocked souvenir shop, humane prices in the restaurant and well-maintained toilets. Recommend setting aside at least 2 hours, I stayed 3 hours before closing, and I will go back again tonight. The park is large, never felt crowded during my visit.
Johanna S — Google review
The entrance is just 4 euros and you spent easily 4 hours in the parc. There is nice array of animals present going from reptiles and birds to bisons, zebra's and so much more. There is a place where you can eat, it is self service. But throughout the parc are multiple benches where you can sit and have a picnic. The parc is also super clean.
Anna — Google review
Such a great zoo and at the same time it's inexpensive. The animals seem happy and from what I saw every animal was a pair, so it doesn't feel lonely. Every habitat seemed well maintained. I would've paid double or event triple the price without an issue.
Ediz M — Google review
One of the best zoos we have visited - amazing variety of animals, extremely well organised, spacious, clean and helpful descriptions of the areas and species. It is a steal at €3 per person!!! We had a very enjoyable morning/afternoon watching the animals.
Anne — Google review
There were quiet a few animals to see. It was definitely worth it Entrance is €4 per person There is no parking area. You have to park on the street We parked about 20min walk away
Denise M — Google review
Went here for a lovely date with my husband during the weekend. The zoo is full of amazing animals and they are very well taken care off. They have fresh food and clean homes. They all look healthy and happy it is very pleasant to watch them and enjoy nature. The zoo is huge soo much to do and nice coffee place with very clean big toilets nothing to complain. Nearby there is an amazing park to stroll around. Super experience
Ksymena C — Google review
We had a great time at the Maksimir Zoo. There are enough animals for a good time and a pleasant tour. The ticket price is symbolic, from 2 to 4€. If you sit for a coffee or ice cream, the stay can last 3-3.5 hours. It's not like the Budapest or Prague Zoo, but it's still beautiful. A sincere recommendation.
Danijela B — Google review
Zagreb Zoo is a fun and relaxing place to visit. The animals, like the lions and monkeys, are active and fun to watch. It’s clean, with lots of green space, but some enclosures feel small. The entry fee is €4, and it’s great for families. I enjoyed the peaceful vibe and learning about the animals.

Park Maksimir is a family-friendly destination located in Zagreb, Croatia. It is the city's largest and oldest public park, spanning 44 acres of vine-covered forests, artificial lakes, creeks, and meadows. The park offers shaded trails for peaceful strolls and is home to diverse wildlife. Visitors can explore the expansive natural surroundings and even venture into the forest.
Very pleasantly surprised to visit this huge green space near the city impressed by glorious historical background. We have good time strolling through the garden taking a leisurely walk. There is something for everyone here. We also like the lake and was happy to many ducks in there too

Beautiful park in Zagreb easily accessible with the tram from the city center. Visit the zoo, rent a boat, or enjoy one of the multiple coffee shops and restaurants located in the park. Discover both the city park and the forestry area near the back for a relaxing break from the city.

A green escape in Zagreb Although Zagreb as a city didn’t quite capture my heart, I have to admit its green areas are wonderful. I really enjoyed a morning run in Park Maksimir — peaceful, spacious, and full of fresh air. A perfect spot to recharge.
Francisco L — Google review
This park will reset your being. So much natural beauty to take in. Zoo was great and worth the price, also celebrating 100 years . Directly off public transportation and easy to navigate. I only have Balboa Park in San Diego and Discovery Park in Seattle to compare to and Park Maksimir blows them both out of the water. It was so refreshing to see families and people of all ages and walks of life enjoying such a magical place in the middle of a city.
Nicole O — Google review
Great news place for a walk in the shade on a hot day. An oasis near the city centre it’s possible to roam for hours exploring the paths and lakes. Great to see the wild terrapins sunbathing. Enough cafes around to keep refreshed

Park Maksimir is a peaceful escape from the city, surrounded by nature and perfect for long walks. It’s well connected to the city center and very popular with locals and families. The park has playgrounds, free toilets, and a calm, relaxing atmosphere—ideal for a day outdoors.

A peaceful green escape in Zagreb! Park Maksimir is beautifully maintained with lakes, walking paths, and plenty of shade, perfect for a relaxing stroll or a quiet picnic. A true oasis inside the city.

Great place to take kids, walk with dogs, go for a run or just explore nature. It can be busy on the weekends, especially near main entrance and paved walking path but provides more secluded places if you walk further or come at a rainy day.

Sights & Landmarks
Cathedral
Architectural Buildings
Churches & Cathedrals
The Cathedral of Zagreb is a grand Roman Catholic edifice that underwent restoration in the 1990s. It hosts concerts like The Organs of the Zagreb Cathedral and Evenings on Gric cycle. The cathedral is a significant part of Zagreb's iconic buildings, along with other landmarks such as Croatian National Theatre and St. Mark's Church.
It is a great piece of architecture just 100 meters from main square. Inside it is very beautiful. It has a small connection with Las Vegas. A Croatian owner of a casino in Las Vegas had gifted them 3 chandeliers which are prominently displayed though they look little out of place. The atmosphere inside was very calm and soothing. It is better to see with a guide who can explain the great historical background. Worth seeing !!
Balkrishna S — Google review
The cathedral has been under renovation for a few years now, but it still is a pleasant sight to see. Under renovation means no access to the inside as well; was gated off for the majority of the time. It is the second tallest building in Croatia and the most monumental sacral building of Gothic architecture southeast of the Alps.
Mat B — Google review
Looks interesting from the outside, but it's temporarily closed (due to further renovations?). There are some old Medieval-looking city walls and fortifiations right next to the cathedral, but those are also inaccessible (at least from the sides nearest the cathedral) due to the work being done.
Karyn — Google review
It's unfortunate that this cathedral is being renovated and temporarily closed barricaded with scaffolding. This renovation seems forever. At the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, gold sculpture is there to behold.
Jun H — Google review
It was closed for renovation during my visit, but the massive artistic structure looked very impressive from the outside.
Deepak P — Google review
Zagreb Cathedral is a prominent site dominating the city skyline with its twin Gothic towers. It's set in the very center on a small hill. However, it is still under renovation due to a recent earthquake which damaged it, so you cannot enter it
Dejan B — Google review
Unfortunately, the cathedral is currently under restoration. The upper part of the building is completely covered with scaffolding. However, we recommend visiting this place. There is a beautiful park with old trees, a seminary and other beautiful old buildings nearby. We expect the restoration to be completed and this beautiful cathedral to be opened in about a year
Fernanda C — Google review
Zagreb Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It’s the most iconic landmark in Zagreb, Croatia. Unfortunately the towers are currently under restoration, which is why you see the scaffolding and printed coverings depicting the original facade. This Gothic-style cathedral is not only a religious center but also a key symbol of the city.

Shopping mall
Shopping
If you're looking for a shopping haven in Zagreb, City Center One East is an absolute must-visit. This expansive mall boasts a stellar reputation as one of the premier shopping destinations in the city. Here, you can explore a wide array of clothing and shoe stores, ensuring that fashion enthusiasts will find something to love. Plus, there's a supermarket on-site for all your grocery needs. But that's not all!
The biggest shopping center in this part of town. It's usually very busy, especially when it's discount season (or Yellow Tuesday). On every floor there is a bathroom for adults, kids, and disabled persons. The elevator and halls are very clean and tidy. The parking on the ground and underground -1 floor are covered, which is useful during rainy days. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic it's not permitted to eat in the center, and they have also removed all the benches for taking a break.
Ivan M — Google review
City Center One East... the place where my wallet and credit cards meet their fate. I always find what I need, and often what I didn't know I needed! Maybe they should put a 'Warning: Wallet melts faster than ice cream in the sun' sign at the entrance, but hey, at least it's warm and cozy shopping! 😉
Denis S — Google review
Solid shopping centre that has all you need really. My fashion conscious kids are happy with the range on offer there and I myself often find good deals on quality sportswear, picked up some great products yesterday and prices were reasonable. They recently got a JD Sports which is a very vice store, worth checking out. Snipes is also a favorite store for us, amongst others. Food court is good and there’s a large cinema. Parking areas are huge so no problem there. Opposite it you have Decathlon also.
Stephen L — Google review
Very convenient shopping open on some Sundays with a large selection of stores and restaurants

City centar One East is perfect for shopping, meatings or other stuff. I really reccomend to go in. Have fun.

Nothing special. The interior is unattractive and food court is just average. Too many small stores with poor assortment. Only good thing are "Super/Yellow Wednesdays" - 30% off on everything.
Stjepan _ — Google review
Nice shopping mall with solid food court and playroom for kids
Ivan — Google review
Quite a good shopping center. Clothing and shoe stores, several cafes are mainly represented. It is fashionable to find things for every taste and wallet. There is a children's room, often holding various interactive activities for children. It can be quite crowded, especially in bad weather.

Restaurant
Pizzeria & Spaghetteria Capuciner is a classic and convenient spot located diagonally opposite Zagreb Cathedral. Despite having shifted from domestic cuisine to pizzas and pastas, it remains fairly priced with most dishes in the 40kn range. The restaurant offers a variety of options including big salads, house pizzas with interesting toppings, pastas, gnocchi, and veal dishes. It also provides a covered side terrace for visitors to relax after sightseeing.
Great place for lunch or dinner while sightseeing in Zagreb. Affordable prices, good food and fantastic atmosphere.

The coffee is the cheapest in Zagreb. 1.60 euros for all coffees. Lovely outdoor area on the street opposite the Cathedral. Great people watching. Inside pleasant too. Nice service. Didn't eat here. Repeat customers.

Great food at a great price! Lasagna was great and a very large portion for how much you pay. Garlic and olive oil pizza bread was a great addition to the burrata starters. Fast service and staff was very attentive.

The food is excellent, portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable considering the central location. The service is friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quality meal in the city center!

The service is good. Attentive and efficient. The food is ok, the pasta was a little undercooked, but it’s good value.

Found this place after a recommendation from Tolkiens House. Service is a bit slow but good value and tasty food. It was lunch so we shared an Al Tonno pizza which was very good. Nice pint of IPA too.

Never been disappointed by this place and ive gone multiple times. Delish food that arrives quickly in the centre of zagreb. They have a lenghty menu with different dishes, so I imagine everyone finds something they like to eat here. I always go for either fried calamari with fries, some sort of gnocchi, and then top it off with a tiramisu.

Italian restaurant
Carpaccio is a renowned restaurant located in the center of Zagreb, offering a variety of classic Italian dishes. The menu features several types of carpaccio, along with appetizers like bruschetta, Vitello tonnato, and burrata with tomatoes. For main courses, guests can choose from a selection of pasta, risotto, meat, and fish dishes. The restaurant's stylish interior is adorned with Art Nouveau decor and offers a sophisticated dining experience.
What a gem of a place. The food was mouthwatering. The stuffed fiore di zucca were just like my grandmother made. Not something you would usually find on a menu. Goes to show the level of authenticity in the cooking. The service was spot on. We felt like we had our own private waiter. Couldn't fault anything. Highly recommend if you are looking for good quality authentic Italian food with great service.
Elizabeth — Google review
Italian food, with Croatian attitude. Sadly, the only raw thing about Carpaccio is the attitude of the wait staff. Apathetic, annoyed, and not something to be expected in the center of the city. I was given dirty silverware, the spoon had some crust caked onto it. Our waiter was generally frustrated and disinterested. Also, we were charged 3 euros per person for some breadsticks and slices of bread. When I asked about, they claimed this is an international standard... Funny, since I come from a family of waiters, and have also traveled a lot, and have never seen such a charge before in my life. Don't serve something to my table, without my asking, and then charge me for it. But this is typical Croatia. The only professional aspect of the staff was their attire...
Gato R — Google review
One of most famous restaurants in Zagreb Center with great terrace (spring/summer). This is rather expesive place but worth every cent. Professional service and great Croatian / Italian food. Ask for daily offer with daily fresh local vegetables or maybe hand-picked porcini mushrooms.

We enjoyed a late lunch after exploring the city. We sat under the canopy outside. The servings were extremely generous and tasty. We were so well fed we skipped dinner! The staff was attentive and the selection was good.

We had a great time, the food was amazing, and the service was great. Very professional Italian restaurant. We arrived without a reservation but I think you would need one in the evening. We had firsts, main course pastas and tried 3 desserts…. All great.

Had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was inviting, and the staff was genuinely friendly. The highlight was the delicious food, especially the tomato soup – a must-try! Overall, a great restaurant that I would highly recommend for a delightful meal.

As I was walking down a street of restaurants I passed this one, the menu located outside looked enticing so I decided to enter. Upon entering I was greeted and was sat at a table right away. They have very good selection of wines from Croatia and Italy, lots to choose from. My order didn’t take long to prepare I order the rigatoni and steak. Both dishes took me by surprise in taste, they were flavorful. Our waiter was friendly and paid attention to detail for anything we needed, especially wine and water refills. Note that the bread is given as you sit, but it is not complimentary.

Pivnica Budweiser is a beloved spot for enjoying traditional Croatian dishes and beer. The portions are generous, and the food is exceptional, with particular praise for the 'cevapi u kajmaku' dish. While lacking parking and a kids' playground, the friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere make up for it. The extensive menu offers various meals, and the service is quick and accommodating. It's advisable to make a reservation due to its popularity.
I took my family for lunch, on a recommendation. I would advise for anyone. The food is amazing, the portions are big and the prices are more than reasonable. Definitely will visit again.

when I ate here six months ago it was the best carbonara ever(the picture where carbonara actually looks like carbonara) and today I got this. What is this??? Onion pieces are huge and it seems as no one wanted to put an effort into chopping them. Its dark therefore it doesn't even look like a carbonara, it doesn't even taste like one. You can't feel cheese or egg or anything that would even remind you of the carbonara taste. If you want to eat real carbonara, you should avoid this place. I don't know what happened, but if I knew you would send me something like this I wouldn't waste 12.5 euros on you, I ate better carbonaras for 7 euros.

One of the best grill places in this part of town. The menu is huge and there are a lot of meals, apart from the daily offer of brunches. The service is very quick and friendly, altough I got the feeling that the deliveries (which they had a lot of them!) have advantage over the guests. Usually very busy, so it's better to make a reservation.

Food and service is excellent! There is plenty to choose from the daily menu or a la carte. Mostly meat dishes but there is a sea food option or vegetarian. Prices are quite normal. On Friday, when we usually visit this place you can choose from the daily menu options like tuna steak, veal, suckling pig or squid and you will pay between 10 and 15 euros for a decent amount of food.

Well food and service were exceptional. Attentive and knowledgeable and rather humorous waiter Kristian helped steer the direction of the dinner and his recommendations were excellent. RougeMarin is an unusual, high-quality bistro in the heart of Zagreb. The chefs prepare extraordinarily delicious food, and the service is professional and friendly. You'll have a unique culinary experience here that you won't find at any other restaurant in Zagreb.
Rougemarin is one of the best restaurant in Zagreb. Despite it’s creative and tasty food, they change their menu twice a year, in summer and winter, which gives this restaurant a fresh taste. Everything is very tasty, the staff is very polite.

Really interesting menu with tasty food and fun and friendly staff. I had their crispy calamari and bucatini with pistachio sauce. Music was excellent. The staff is multilingual and attentive - they spoke Croatian, English, and Spanish. Good wifi and location, very close to the main trg. Would come back and try more of their interesting dishes. I would say for Zagreb, it's about 10-15% higher than local prices used to be, but the art on the walls and 80s music is really a whole vibe.

Amazing surroundings. Quick and welcoming staff! Lovely food as always! Great for families with kids or just couples and friends.
Ella D — Google review
Rougemarin has a reputation of a high end restaurant, and maybe they were, but now they are just using past glories to sell you food at very expensive prices. Food is good. Ingredients are good, it's nicely made and tasty. But not THAT good. Portions are VERY small. If you have a good appetite you'll definitely be left hungry. Staff is ok. Capable, but in these kind of restaurant, with these prices, not professional enough. 💲💲And prices are high. If you take an appetizer, main meal and a dessert, you're looking at 50€ price. Which is too much when you take everything into account. They have their parking lot, which you have to pay per hour! ➡️ Visit if you must.

Shopping
Avenue Mall is a vibrant shopping complex located in the heart of urban Zagreb, just steps away from the Museum of Contemporary Art. Spanning 27,000 square meters, it offers an array of brand-name department stores and boutiques, as well as eateries and a cinema with nine halls. The mall also features playrooms for children and ample parking space. Visitors can explore various parts filled with clothing and shoe stores, along with a supermarket for daily needs.
Huge and modern mall which has a lot of stores and restaurants on the top floor. There is even a movie theatre where you can watch the newest movies. Everything is clean and well-maintained. Garage is usually packed on the weekends so it’s not easy to find a parking spot. At least it has the lights which indicate whether the spot is empty or occupied, but there are no displays which say how many spots are available per section. More EV chargers can be installed and solar panels to be added on the roof which would lower energy costs and reduce greenhouse emissions.

This one is quite large by Zagreb's standards and has a good range of retail outlets with plenty of Brand stores like H&M, Zara etc Entertainment and eateries on the top floor. From the outside balcony of McDonald's you get a view up towards the mountain peak.

Located in the heart of New Zagreb, this mall is a popular shopping and social destination. It has excellent public transport connectivity. The mall has ample restaurant choices, CineStar cinema and major retail brands all under one roof. Car parking is free for 3 hours.

For many years now, the best shopping mall in Zagreb. The best selection of shops on every floor. It has a cinema, several places to eat (Dubravica, KFC, McDonalds, Wok), and to have coffee. The parking is free for 3 hours. In front of the mall there is a parking place for bycicles and many bus stops.

If you seek dosen different things (shoes, drugstore, cosmetics, clothes, pet food, human food and groceries, cinema, book and a cell phone, all this with a nice view of the Contemporary Art Museum of Zagreb - this would probably be it. You can also drink something at several caffes with indoor and outdoor seating; you can also grab something to eat (McDonald's included). All this in a mall that is not to big (I personally get lost in huge malls with too much choice) P.s.nicer view of the museum from the top floor...

Small mall with limited shopping and dining options, but modern, new and well connected.

We are big fans of Bundek City Park. Both my kid and I. Since he took his first steps, Bundek offers multiple playgrounds for kids from toddler to teenager age. Toddlers appropriate playground is situated across the big lake, while this one on the pictures, is situated next to the parking lot, and across Center Bundek.

Lake Bundek is divided into Big Lake and Small Lake. It is located along the river Sava. Budek Beach has been arranged on Bih lake. The small lake was left as a natural habitat for numerous plant and animal species. The area around the lake is arranged as an entertainment and recreational park. Barbecues, concrete barbecues with garden benches and tables have been installed. There are a lot of bicycle paths as well as roller rinks. Playground for volleyball and handball. I noticed a lot of different trees and it is regularly maintained, cherries are planted.

Bundek City Park, nestled in the Novi Zagreb area, is a beautiful and versatile public space that offers an array of activities and experiences for visitors of all ages. Historical Background Bundek Park has an interesting history. Initially, it was a gravel pit, excavated in 1955 for the construction of the Zagreb Fair pavilions and transportation surfaces. The extraction continued until 1960 for the construction of the Freedom Bridge. As the pit was excavated below the groundwater level, it eventually filled with water, transforming into a lake. Over time, the area evolved from a gravel pit into a popular recreational site for the citizens of Zagreb. However, in the early 1980s, the park faced challenges due to unsanitary conditions, leading to a ban on swimming in the lake. This resulted in Bundek becoming somewhat neglected until its renovation and transformation into the modern park it is today . Present-Day Features Today, Bundek City Park is a beloved location for relaxation and recreation. It spans approximately 550,000 square meters, offering a beautiful landscape with various activities. Visitors can enjoy walking around the lake, biking, running, and picnicking. The park also has a boat service for those who wish to experience the lake from the water. Besides its natural beauty, Bundek is frequently the site for events and festivals, including the famous Bundekfest music festival and Christmas markets . Accessibility and Facilities Access to Bundek City Park is straightforward, with public transportation options available from different parts of the city. The park is well-equipped with numerous parking spaces, and its location near the eastern parking lot of the Zagreb Fair makes it easily accessible for visitors. The park is also equipped with bars and cafes around the lake, offering refreshments and meals . Suggested Itinerary in Zagreb Starting from Bundek City Park 1. Start at Bundek City Park: Begin your day with a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoying the serene environment and lush greenery. 2. Explore Gornji Grad: Head to Gornji Grad, the historic upper town of Zagreb, known for its picturesque streets and squares rich in history and cultural heritage. 3. Visit St. Mark’s Church: Don’t miss the iconic St. Mark’s Church, famous for its colorful tiled roof. 4. Tower of Lotrščak and the Zagreb Cathedral: Climb the Tower of Lotrščak for panoramic city views and visit the Zagreb Cathedral, a stunning example of Gothic architecture. 5. Relax at Zrinjevac Park: End your day at Zrinjevac Park, close to the main square, perfect for unwinding amidst charming fountains and lush greenery. Overall Impression Bundek City Park in Zagreb is not just a recreational area but a symbol of the city’s transformation and commitment to providing green spaces for its residents and visitors. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and modern amenities, making it an essential stop for anyone visiting Zagreb.

Bundek City Park is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a wide range of outdoor activities and entertainment options. The park is well-maintained, with plenty of green space and walking paths. There are several playgrounds for children, as well as sports facilities for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. The lake in the center of the park is a highlight, offering a peaceful place to relax and take in the scenery. One thing to note, however, is that the park's restroom facilities are often in disarray. Despite efforts to keep them clean, they can become quite messy and unpleasant to use. This is the one negative aspect of an otherwise wonderful park. Overall, Bundek City Park is a must-visit destination in Zagreb. Its beautiful setting and variety of activities make it a great place to spend a day with family or friends. Just be prepared to bring your own hand sanitizer and tissues, as the restroom facilities can be less than ideal.

I walked the full length of the park from east to west. The west side is the more interesting with two lakes, food stalls, bar and children's play area together with some formal cultivated flowers. The east side is more wild/natural with grassland and meadow flowers, but with plenty of shade from the many trees and lots of benches for sitting.

Underrated place in Zagreb. Relaxing, dog and family friendly. Good cafes and bars in the area. Worth checking out if you just wanna chill and get of the city
Vieran H — Google review
Really nice place for a walk or a barbique if you are around. Good park for children as well. The (main) lake is small and cute, and it is allowed to swim there. There is another lake part where there are more birds but no groupel around, looks more natural and not for swimming. Overall, nicely kept midsize park. However, all the bars are closed, guess due to Covid. There is one place offering coffee to go,but no tables nor anything.

The Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb is a serene oasis in the city, originally established in 1890 as a research area for the Faculty of Botany. Spanning five hectares as part of Zagreb's Green Horseshoe, it offers a diverse collection of roughly 10,000 plant species including annuals, perennials, trees, and aquatic plants in two ponds.
Very beautiful well maintained place, so much air and lovely flowers fragrance. I loved the relaxing vibes. So many trees and birds and butterflies. Feels like paradise. I would only clean the pond where the frogs and turtles sit as it seems like there is some kind of oily material that needs to be cleaned. And it seems like there are lost cute frogs in the (not working) kind of fountain next to the small closed humid greenhouse, and i feel like they dont need to be there and instead be taken to the big pond. They dont have where to hide or what to eat in there :/

Even though it delayed our Zagreb sightseeing tour about an hour, because my mother's a real botanic enthusiast, it was even an interesting place to visit for me and my father - even though we do not understand quite a lot around plants. The 2€ were definitely worth it!

Absolutely beautiful garden even in nearly fall. I had an absolutely wonderful time walking around the garden looking at everything. It was early September, so I'm sure it's much more magnificent in Spring/ Summer. I also really liked looking at the art exhibit housed in the read building, hard to believe it was all done by high schoolers.

If you feel the need to escape from the tourist crowds in Old Town or the disappointment of finding yet another museum closed for 'maintenance' then head to the Botanical Garden nearby Zagreb's main station. A couple of hours here of 'forest bathing' refreshed my spirit and I learnt more about the flora of our world, marveling at the giant Sequoia Redwoods, Ginkgo trees, exotic and carnivorous plants of South America and many more beautiful flowers. It's an easy place to get to by tram and the entry price is a mere €2.00 !

If you love plants and flowers, this botanical garden is a must visit place when you're in Zagreb. Lush with greenery and yet still in the city area. I was visiting on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. We entered the place for free as we handed out the money. The lady in the ticket booth confirmed that that day was a free entrance.

Its ok. Not very well maintained but pleasant enough to walk around or sit on a bench. Lots of rules which are mostly ok, but no glass of wine, no picnic on the weed patches? Children are allowed but they arent allowed to do much (no running, no balls, no climbing rocks) .. the plants look a bit sickly like they dont get the correct nutrients or sufficient sun. Its a bit dodgy for wheelchair uses because large watering holes are occasionally across the path. Its possible to avoid though. 2 euro entry.

quite a simple but beautiful and well-kept garden. the entrance tickets are very cheap and there are a lot of good information tables about the plants themselves. There are also many benches to rest on and the scenery is nice

The Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb is housed in a grand neo-Baroque building dating back to 1895. Designed by the Viennese firm Hellmer and Fellner, it was opened by Emperor Franz Josef himself. The theater's stately interior can be admired during its impressive opera, ballet, and drama performances. Outside the theater stands Ivan Strovic's lifelike sculpture 'Fountain of Life,' depicting four couples around a small pool of water.
A beautiful building with exceptional architecture and beautiful halls. We had booked a tour during the day and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Zagreb. The tour was with a guide whose stories and knowledge about the theater and its history were simply fascinating. We had the opportunity to see rooms that are intended only for those who work there, We saw the dressing room, the rehearsal room, we walked along the corridors where only the ballet dancers go when they go to the stage, the equipment with which great effects are achieved during a performance. I could endlessly list the places we saw and the interesting facts about this theater that the tour guide told us. We were very lucky to touch what happens behind the curtains and the stage. I highly recommend this tour and I can say that it was the greatest experience of our visit to Zagreb.

A wonderful ambient to spend a few hours from time to time. The building is after so many years inspiring but requires a thorough renovation. Low maintenance and the earthquake took its toll. Apart from the building the square surrounding it also requires action. There should be no discussion about the square, it should be released of all political burdens and simply given the name it can withhold for the future:Kazališni trg. This was and is and should be the pivot point of Croatian cultural heritage and future.

I love this theater and would like to rate it with five stars but the process of getting a ticket for a performance was just too cumbersome. I was visiting with my brother and a performance of Peer Gynt was there on the day we arrived. I tried to purchase tickets online but the website would allow me to do so as it requires a Croatian bankcard. I emailed the box office and they said they'd hold two tickets for me at the box office but three days prior I'd have to confirm that I wanted to attend. I did this and don't regret it. The performance was excellent and a great way of experiencing the culture of Croatia. The building is beautiful and of significant historical value. On the day I arrived I went to the box office at the time when the email from the box office said they'd be open. It was closed. I walked over and got lunch and came back when the sign said it would be open and there was no one in the office. I called out and someone came from the back and said the system was down and I'd need to come back in two hours. I told them I was there to pick up tickets for that nights performance and insisted on getting the tickets. All of a sudden the system was able to give me the tickets and accept my payment. The tickets they held for me were the worst in the house. To say the least I was very disappointed as I had contact the box office four months prior to my visit and they should that seats were available all over the theater. I even mentioned in the email the seats I was trying to reserve. But instead of saving those seats for me, they held the two worst seats in the house.

Okay place to walk and stop for a while. To drink or to catch your breath. Enjoy the scenery. Lots of bench. Easy to reach through tram. Also interesting building right in front of it, which I found very resemblant of central european style building. Nothing else to do or eat or see but yeah one of the tourist photo spot!

Ginger Sushi is a reliable option for high-quality Japanese cuisine in the heart of Zagreb. While it offers seating inside, it primarily serves as a take-away spot with an extensive menu covering various sushi options. The restaurant's simple concept focuses on delivering top-quality sushi with rich flavors and aromas, making it a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Its central location makes it easily accessible for visitors exploring the city.
Delicious and just what we wanted! Sushi was fresh and super tasty. We brought it back to our hotel for a late night sushi feast :)

The location is prime. You have a busy street, nearby is a touristic building and you have the chance to have ourside seating. But somehow the location that makes tasty Sushis is more a take away outlet rather than a Sushi restaurant. Honestly speaking it made me sad. This is a sleeping cash cow actually. It should be more than just a take away. It should be a spot with table service, great drinks and a real Japanese atmosphere. At least the staff was friendly and helpful. But I was a bit disappointed.

Walked into Ginger Sushi today, there were no customers in the store or sitting outside,we struggled to get the attention of any of the staff despite 3 of them being present behind the counter. My wife was told we could sit outside and they will come and take our order after she endeavoured to order inside (we knew what we wanted). We waited for over 10 minutes (no customers inside or out) and nobody came out to take our order so we left hungry and rather disappointed.

Really dissapointed and a shame for a restaurant with this price. The place looks hold and they could renovate a little bit. The understandable thing is, how you could have nice products and destroy them like this? Every one can do better at home. The octopus salad (around 30E) is just octopus with patatoes. The veal is over cooked and this is shame. Same for the turbot fish. They not care about the products. Service is good. Wine is nice with good references.
Dom D — Google review
We recently visited Le Bistro Esplanade, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The service left much to be desired — the staff were not particularly friendly or attentive. At the start of our meal, our plates were removed immediately after we had just added oil, without any acknowledgment or apology. Throughout the evening, no explanations about the dishes were provided when they were served, leaving us to guess what we were eating. When it came to dessert, no recommendations were offered, which felt impersonal and lacking in hospitality. The ambiance was acceptable but clearly dated and in need of a refresh. While the food itself was of good quality, it wasn’t particularly memorable — certainly not enough to justify the price. Overall, it felt like the restaurant relies too heavily on its reputation rather than delivering an experience that matches the cost.

A house classic, Gratinated onion soup was a nourishing experience second to none, and a venison ossobuco was a bliss melting in mouth, together with hand made gnocchi. This is an exemplary cooking in my book. Just the right intensity, flavors and textures. And all in a somehow cosy and friendly environment despite beeing the quite prestigious place.

Plane stopped over Zagreb a day, stopped at this elegant bistro for a long lazy lunch, a treat! Warm welcome, good service. great ambience! Local Chardonnay was burgundy style 🥂🥂 4 starters to sample, best onion soup I have ever tasted, beef tartar must have, fish carpaccio & foie gras also good, duck confit ok, veal cutlet average… pinot noir 🍷🍷 also local, nice.. Overall a very nice meal, must have in Zagred!
Andrew H — Google review
Didn't love it. The swordfish carpaccio was doused in hoisin sauce or oyster sauce so you couldn't taste the fish. The duck confit was very tough and didn't have a crispy skin at all. The struckli was interesting, but it was just too rich and ine-note for such a giant portion, it would be better as a sharing plate. Grasp does not equal reach.

I had stayed at this hotel previously but never eaten at the restaurants other than breakfast. So we booked this for the four of us as I wanted to eat somewhere special for the family. I have to say it wasn't what I had expected. The food tasted great, there was no issue and no issue with service. However, it was typically smaller portions that you get in some fine dining restaurants but what surprised me most, two of us had steak and I know some people may think well done is barbaric but I did not expect the steak to be in two pieces. I have never had steak in two pieces and my cousin’s steak was the same. The schnitzel another family member had looked rather plain. The desert was nice but probably the best thing we had. Staff were pleasant and accommodating as we had a table in full sun and the waiter quickly dressed another table for us which was very kind.

They must have changed their Chef and fish supplier, because they got better! I must admit, that I stopped visiting this restaurant a year ago since I became bored with their menu... Finally, they have added a few more dishes and all of those new dishes are fabulous. Now, I am looking forward to go for lunch or dinner again soon!

Excellent food. The staff is super courteous and very helpful. The food quality was really good and fresh. The taste was just amazing. The food in Zagreb is much better than the other cities as there is a lot of variety. The restaurant is very clean and not that expensive. It looks fancy but I believe it is value for money for the service and food it offers. I loved the Salmon, the meat was so tender and fresh. The flavours were just right. They accept cards as well. I hear the desserts are also excellent but I haven’t tried them personally. The gyoza was juicy. It also has veg options for vegetarians. Overall we had a great lunch.

A year ago, this locale was excellent. Last week, for a 115€ and a very generous tip, I expected better. Our waiter was good and prompt. The food has declined in quality. Cold starters - there is nothing more disappointing than lukewarm gyōza. How long had it been sitting? The yuzu cocktail is a pale imitation of what it was. Clearly, they lost replaced, or didn't feel like paying for, their excellent bartender and chef. It's a shame. ----- As far as food, drink, and service goes, it's simply the best Asian fusion I've had in Croatia so far. Our server was polished, polite, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Easily offered suggestions, and was clearly knowledgeable with all food related Japanese terminology. Cheers to the bartender, their excellent yuzu gimlet was a refreshing, creative delight. The gyoza, and I hesitate to use so bold a word, were perfect. I can still recall the crunch, followed by the perfect chew of steamed dough and filling. The spring roll, excellent. I enviously eyed a neighboring tables tempura shrimp and vegetables. Something to come back for. Each piece of sushi was excellent. Carefully crafted, beautifully presented, and a treat to savor. The tuna is of notable quality. Desert, a recent addition to the menu, was playfully delicious. To be fair, there were a few technical issues which weren't agregious, however should be mentioned. The cutlery needs a closer eye, as does the general table settings. I did notice the restaurant does allow babies, but to be fair, the tourists behind us were far louder. Technicalities aside, I found the food, drink, and service to be excellent.

Takenoko has been known for years as a great sushi restaurant in Zagreb. We spent our anniversary there and although the food was good I was not that impressed. The service was not on the level that I expected it to be, on the bill I saw that we got the wrong wine, and just the overall experience was not excellent. I think at this price point it should be better, especially the service.

Having read the reviews I hoped for more. The sushi rolls were average, wouldn't go back for them. There was a stain on the sake jar, menus were also stained. The interior is nice at first glance, but if you look closer, it's made quite cheaply. The waiter was nice and polite. The set of three rolls in the picture + a bottle of water + 0.18ml of sake costed 300 kunas (€40).

There is no plant-based milk option for coffee But they have 3 sorbets which are vegan. Staff not super friendly or helpful :(
Jennifer D — Google review
Nice place for coffee or sweets even though there is much more nicer pastries in the city. Quiet place with wide terrace, no traffic, suitable for kids as well. Ice cream is good, not fantastic. They also have wine list. Perfect choice if you are visiting fair near by or you are in Novi Zagreb.
Marjeta K — Google review
Vincek is a nice cafe, they have plenty of cakes, drinks and savoury with very afforfable price. Located in very comfortable area to spent and enjoy your holiday in Zagreb.
Cyclops G — Google review
Nice icecream. They have some seatings but you have to order at the counter. They have many options of sweets but I haven’t tried any. Service was good. There was even a queue for ice cream at front door.
