The Museum of Broken Relationships, located in a baroque palace, showcases personal items from past relationships along with brief synopses. It is a popular tourist attraction and features donated items with humorous descriptions available in multiple languages through QR codes and printed books. Visitors can also contribute their own relationship mementos to enrich the museum's collection. The museum has been recognized for its innovation by receiving the Kenneth Hudson Prize from the European Museum Forum.
An amazing museum. The stories really cut through. Some of them were funny but a lot of them were emotional and really touching. It certainly brings back memories and/or a way to feel things buried deep. Such a beautiful idea and the contributions were just superb. The staff were just lovely too! Well done all!!
Nick O — Google review
A must-go museum that displays an array of relics of lost and broken love. Reading various related stories was so interesting, and I had a very impressive time there. The clerks inside were so kind, and they had a decent souvenir shop and an inside café to chill myself after passing through a lot of heartbreaking stories. If I could, I would rate this place 6 out of 5 stars.
Garam L — Google review
A must see! A unique museum collection containing various items “of one’s affection” that at some point required dismissal for resolution. Donor’s also offer a vignette of the relationship behind the objects. Decide for yourself, if and where you fit into these stories , and have a cathartic experience for a few hours. There are 5-6 small rooms , lots of interesting readings that require 1-2 hours of your time. Clever idea to put together this collection. One that will keep growing as long as humanity is involved!
Linda P — Google review
Wonderful little museum filled with mementos and poignant stories about the people, things, events and places that we fall in love with and have to let go. If you enjoy stories about being human and want to experience a different kind of museum filled with humanity then you must go. I thoroughly enjoyed! Spent about 1-1.5 hours there. Nice, comfortable cafe attached. This is in historic old town or upper town
Maureen P — Google review
Based off the name of this museum, you’d expect it to be rather depressing… and it kinda is, but in a touching way. Genuine stories, genuine heartbreak, real people. It’s a Museum of Broken Relationships, as the name implies… but, of all kinds of broken relationships, some of which will give you a laugh. Some of which… don’t. I bought my tickets in advance, but when I got there it was rather empty (I went October 1), so it was very easy. I have heard it can get quite busy though, which is why I got tickets in advance. Don’t skip this.
Taylor B — Google review
What a fantastic idea for a museum! So glad our walking tour guide recommended this. It was sad, funny, emotional and heartbreaking as well as some heart warming stories. Definitely a must see in Zagreb.
Samantha W — Google review
I really liked it and I think it is a must see if you are in Zagreb! You have to do a lot of reading but it is worth it. The stories are as different as the objects and whats very cool - they are from around the world. Some you may like, some may bore you, some may leave something to think about. This is a bit different kind of museum as we are used to but thats another beauty of it🥰
Signe H — Google review
We came here as we'd heard of it as a must see and unique tourist attraction, as well as the fact that it was open quite late in the night when we had some free time. The entry fee was €7 per adult and overall, I was very disappointed. The museum is only made up of about 5 or so rooms with mementos from past relationships, each with a note detailing the backstory of the piece. None of the items themselves are really that interesting, and you'd have to do a lot of reading about each item to understand the meaning behind them. However, most of the stories are just average break up stories and I didn't feel emotionally engaged by any of them. The most interesting part for me was reading the guest book at the back with some pretty funny comments on there. If it was a free museum then I would say go there since it's a very unique concept so it could be interesting. But paying €7 to look at some objects from broken relationships, it's not really worth it.

The Cathedral of Zagreb is a grand Roman Catholic edifice that underwent restoration in the 1990s. It hosts concerts like The Organs of the Zagreb Cathedral and Evenings on Gric cycle. The cathedral is a significant part of Zagreb's iconic buildings, along with other landmarks such as Croatian National Theatre and St. Mark's Church.
It is a great piece of architecture just 100 meters from main square. Inside it is very beautiful. It has a small connection with Las Vegas. A Croatian owner of a casino in Las Vegas had gifted them 3 chandeliers which are prominently displayed though they look little out of place. The atmosphere inside was very calm and soothing. It is better to see with a guide who can explain the great historical background. Worth seeing !!
Balkrishna S — Google review
The cathedral has been under renovation for a few years now, but it still is a pleasant sight to see. Under renovation means no access to the inside as well; was gated off for the majority of the time. It is the second tallest building in Croatia and the most monumental sacral building of Gothic architecture southeast of the Alps.
Mat B — Google review
Looks interesting from the outside, but it's temporarily closed (due to further renovations?). There are some old Medieval-looking city walls and fortifiations right next to the cathedral, but those are also inaccessible (at least from the sides nearest the cathedral) due to the work being done.
Karyn — Google review
It's unfortunate that this cathedral is being renovated and temporarily closed barricaded with scaffolding. This renovation seems forever. At the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, gold sculpture is there to behold.
Jun H — Google review
It was closed for renovation during my visit, but the massive artistic structure looked very impressive from the outside.
Deepak P — Google review
Zagreb Cathedral is a prominent site dominating the city skyline with its twin Gothic towers. It's set in the very center on a small hill. However, it is still under renovation due to a recent earthquake which damaged it, so you cannot enter it
Dejan B — Google review
Unfortunately, the cathedral is currently under restoration. The upper part of the building is completely covered with scaffolding. However, we recommend visiting this place. There is a beautiful park with old trees, a seminary and other beautiful old buildings nearby. We expect the restoration to be completed and this beautiful cathedral to be opened in about a year
Fernanda C — Google review
Zagreb Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It’s the most iconic landmark in Zagreb, Croatia. Unfortunately the towers are currently under restoration, which is why you see the scaffolding and printed coverings depicting the original facade. This Gothic-style cathedral is not only a religious center but also a key symbol of the city.

Market Dolac is a bustling and vibrant market located in Zagreb, offering a wide variety of goods from fresh fruits and vegetables to local cheeses and meats. The market features both indoor and outdoor stalls, creating an authentic and lively atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque setting with iconic red umbrellas against the backdrop of the Cathedral of Zagreb and old town structures, making it a perfect spot for photography and people-watching.
Awesome market with wide variety of local and regional products. Very friendly sellers despite the language barrier offering free tasting for fruits especially. Cash only. The fish market is also bustling and has lots of offerings. Truly enjoyed the experience here.
Rabii K — Google review
One of the main attractions of Zagreb but it’s much smaller than I expected. Beautiful fresh and cut flowers and lavender being sold there, but apparently some flower vendors don’t allow photography of their flowers while some are very happy and proud when you take photos. I can definitely see that some of the flower vendors are an expert green thumb! Aside from this, one of the flower vendors suddenly moved in front of me strongly pushed down my phone mid-photograph and said something to me but I didn’t understand what she was saying. She also did that to other people in front of her stall. I wasn’t blocking her flower stall, just standing at the side to take a photo of her roses. She was not selling creative flower arrangements but cut roses in buckets like everyone else so I had presumed that photography was okay. Perhaps it would be better for the these vendors to put a small sign up saying that photography was not allowed since they are not comfortable with it; at least tourists would be aware of this. This interaction left a bad mark on the whole flower market experience. Besides this, I bought colourful wool socks from a lovely lady vendor who proceeded to give me a proper printed receipt for this…I’m not sure if receipts are the norm in this market since she was the only one who gave me a printed receipt. She also sold baskets and toys and woollen shoes which were all very pretty. A lot of vendors selling berries here: the blackberries, raspberries and cranberries were all very fresh and affordable.

Great local food market starts from early morning till early afternoon (06:30-14:00). You can get fruit and veg by the kilo for just 2–3 euros. If you enjoy a good bargain, arrive around 13:30, you might find large quantities of produce for just €1 each. Everything is very fresh and high quality. There are also some great local restaurants nearby.
KloudManc — Google review
Great markets. From flowers to honey fruits of the day. Also check out the meat and cheese sections that are below ground. Some cool souvenir shops as well. Stop have a coffee and take it all in. Great place for tourists
Banksie — Google review
A local market where you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, flowers, and more. Prices are reasonable, and the vendors are friendly. Shops start gradually opening around 7 AM. We bought fruit at a great price and enjoyed it throughout the trip :)
Daya K — Google review
It's fun to walk around, of course if you want things there's a lot of vegetables, fruits, flowers and souvenirs. A few cafes line the market which are great for coffee or drinks. Many walkable streets in the vicinity.
Robert Q — Google review
Very fresh fruit and amazing vibrant colors. Had an amazing lunch there. Stopping at different booths to try some local delectables.
George B — Google review
It's a local bazaar, but small and not that great or inviting like other bazaars. There are mostly food vendors like meat buttlers, fruits and vegetables, bakeries, florists, and other shops. It's not worth visiting for tourists.

Cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Mirogoj cemetery, located on a hillside north of downtown Zagreb, is a renowned burial ground designed by architect Hermann Bolle. Opened in 1872, it boasts an impressive entrance with a long brick wall topped by green cupolas. The parklike cemetery features paths lined with horse chestnut trees and black marble graves, serving as the final resting place for individuals of various faiths including Roman Catholic, Serbian Orthodox, Jewish, and Muslim.
walked for an hour from central Zagreb. It’s full of stories & memories for Croatians for 3 Centuries. Unfortunately many parts are under renovation & closed. It is still grand & solemn. there are grand graves for rich families for 5-6 generations. But also neglected small unknown graves. God bless their souls.
Connie W — Google review
We were surprised when our guide Ante told us that he is taking us to a cemetery to see it. When we reached there then we realised it is much more than a cemetery. The entrance was beautiful and so was the inside with excellent arcades, sculptures and garden, It had a lot of history behind it which was explained to us. It was built by famous architect Hermann Bolle The people of different religions like Christians, Muslims and Jews were buried there. The local people come here just to use beautiful garden. We were surprised when told that rich people buy their grave place here well in advance and it is expensive.
Balkrishna S — Google review
Visiting Mirogoj Cemetery felt more like a stroll through a serene sculpture park than a traditional burial ground. The arcades designed by Hermann Bollé are simply breathtaking—graceful arches, ivy-covered facades, and dignified mausoleums that reflect both sorrow and beauty. Despite some areas still showing damage from past earthquakes, the atmosphere remains profoundly tranquil. This place isn’t just architecturally stunning; it’s a cultural treasure trove, housing the graves of some of Croatia’s most notable figures. Paths lined with horse chestnut trees add a poetic charm, making it a contemplative escape from the bustle of downtown Zagreb. Tip: Don't attempt to walk from the Old Town—it’s a pretty steep hike! Public transport, especially buses 106 or 226, make the trip much easier. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture lover, or just someone seeking quiet reflection, Mirogoj is a must-see.
Laurence H — Google review
Beautiful cemetery, great place for a peaceful walk. Very calm and quiet for a longer visit in Zagreb.
See Z — Google review
Mirogoj Cemetery is a huge and beautiful place, even from the outside. The green domes and ivy-covered walls look amazing, despite repair barriers. It feels peaceful with lots of trees and history. You can’t enter the arcades due to earthquake damage, but it’s still worth seeing. A short bus ride from the city makes it easy to visit.
Ramdas P — Google review
The Monumental Cemetery Mirogoj is a cemetery park that is considered to be among the more noteworthy landmarks in the City of Zagreb. It is a Member of ASCE and part of European Cemeteries Route. Mirogoj is considered a very significant cemetery for landscape, as an art gallery and as a book of Croatian history. An easy tram hop from the city centre, the beautiful tree-lined cemetery of Mirogoj is a rarely visited attraction. Founded in 1876 and designed by Hermann Bollé, few visitors reach Mirogoj, but those who do discover an expansive space filled with excellent sculptures and tiled arcades. The grounds of Mirogoj provide a peaceful retreat from the city center. The sheer size of the place means you rarely bump into another person; the only sounds you hear are bird song and the wind rustling the trees. Considered one of the best landmarks of the city and, some claim, one of the most magnificent cemeteries in Europe where over 300,000 souls are buried.
C C — Google review
I walked here from the city centre. It is not as impressive as some Italian cemeteries (like Bologna or Verona) but still very nice. I was dissapointed that the arcades were not accessible due to constructions works (hapenning all over the city by that time).
Robert H — Google review
It really is just a cemetery. The gorgeous view is only the gates (?) enclosing the cemetery. No entrances fee, and nice for a quick visit.

A green escape in Zagreb Although Zagreb as a city didn’t quite capture my heart, I have to admit its green areas are wonderful. I really enjoyed a morning run in Park Maksimir — peaceful, spacious, and full of fresh air. A perfect spot to recharge.

This park will reset your being. So much natural beauty to take in. Zoo was great and worth the price, also celebrating 100 years . Directly off public transportation and easy to navigate. I only have Balboa Park in San Diego and Discovery Park in Seattle to compare to and Park Maksimir blows them both out of the water. It was so refreshing to see families and people of all ages and walks of life enjoying such a magical place in the middle of a city.

The Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb is a serene oasis in the city, originally established in 1890 as a research area for the Faculty of Botany. Spanning five hectares as part of Zagreb's Green Horseshoe, it offers a diverse collection of roughly 10,000 plant species including annuals, perennials, trees, and aquatic plants in two ponds.
Very beautiful well maintained place, so much air and lovely flowers fragrance. I loved the relaxing vibes. So many trees and birds and butterflies. Feels like paradise. I would only clean the pond where the frogs and turtles sit as it seems like there is some kind of oily material that needs to be cleaned. And it seems like there are lost cute frogs in the (not working) kind of fountain next to the small closed humid greenhouse, and i feel like they dont need to be there and instead be taken to the big pond. They dont have where to hide or what to eat in there :/

Even though it delayed our Zagreb sightseeing tour about an hour, because my mother's a real botanic enthusiast, it was even an interesting place to visit for me and my father - even though we do not understand quite a lot around plants. The 2€ were definitely worth it!
TheGeorg278 — Google review
Absolutely beautiful garden even in nearly fall. I had an absolutely wonderful time walking around the garden looking at everything. It was early September, so I'm sure it's much more magnificent in Spring/ Summer. I also really liked looking at the art exhibit housed in the read building, hard to believe it was all done by high schoolers.
Danielle K — Google review
If you feel the need to escape from the tourist crowds in Old Town or the disappointment of finding yet another museum closed for 'maintenance' then head to the Botanical Garden nearby Zagreb's main station. A couple of hours here of 'forest bathing' refreshed my spirit and I learnt more about the flora of our world, marveling at the giant Sequoia Redwoods, Ginkgo trees, exotic and carnivorous plants of South America and many more beautiful flowers. It's an easy place to get to by tram and the entry price is a mere €2.00 !
Phil M — Google review
If you love plants and flowers, this botanical garden is a must visit place when you're in Zagreb. Lush with greenery and yet still in the city area. I was visiting on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. We entered the place for free as we handed out the money. The lady in the ticket booth confirmed that that day was a free entrance.
Pepy J — Google review
Its ok. Not very well maintained but pleasant enough to walk around or sit on a bench. Lots of rules which are mostly ok, but no glass of wine, no picnic on the weed patches? Children are allowed but they arent allowed to do much (no running, no balls, no climbing rocks) .. the plants look a bit sickly like they dont get the correct nutrients or sufficient sun. Its a bit dodgy for wheelchair uses because large watering holes are occasionally across the path. Its possible to avoid though. 2 euro entry.
Kim S — Google review
quite a simple but beautiful and well-kept garden. the entrance tickets are very cheap and there are a lot of good information tables about the plants themselves. There are also many benches to rest on and the scenery is nice

St. Mark's Church dates back to 13 cent and is located on top of the upper town on the same name square housing the Croatian parliament next door. Most distinctive and eye catching feature are the Croatian and Zagreb coat of arms on its roof. Unfortunately the Church is closed currently for renovations.
Dejan B — Google review
Saint Mark’s Church in Zagreb’s Upper Town is a stunning sight, even from the outside. Its colorful tiled roof with Croatia’s and Zagreb’s coats of arms is unique and eye-catching. The Gothic portal looks impressive, but you can’t get too close due to barriers. It’s a bit disappointing it’s closed for repairs, but still worth seeing. The square around it feels historic and lively despite the restrictions.
Ramdas P — Google review
Unfortunately it’s close at the moment so you can only see it from outside or the best view of the roof you can take it from the Lotrscak Tower. If you go during the weekend in the summer from 5 to 8pm you can see few people dressed with the old time fashion.

1 | St. Mark’s Church in Zagreb dates back to the 13th century, making it one of the city’s oldest architectural monuments. It is easily recognized by its vividly tiled roof, which displays the coats of arms of the medieval Triune Kingdom of Croatia‑Slavonia‑Dalmatia and the City of Zagreb. 2 | The church roof is very photogenic, and the site is worth a visit. During our stay in Zagreb in July 2025, the church was under renovation, and construction container towers were set up in front of it. The interior couldn't be visited, and it was nearly impossible to take a decent photo of the church.
Petr N — Google review
St. Mark’s Church, located in Zagreb’s historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad), is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, largely due to its striking tiled roof. This colorful roof features two coats of arms made from glazed ceramic tiles. On the left side is the emblem of the former Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia, and Dalmatia, representing the union of these historical regions. It combines a red-and-white checkerboard for Croatia, three lion heads for Dalmatia, and a marten running across a field with a star above for Slavonia. On the right side of the roof is the coat of arms of the city of Zagreb. It shows a white, three-towered city gate on a blue background, symbolizing openness and protection, with a golden six-pointed star and crescent moon above it. The roof was added during a major restoration in the late 19th century, reflecting both national pride and the Gothic revival style of the time. Today, it serves not only as a beautiful architectural feature but also as a meaningful symbol of Croatia’s history and Zagreb’s civic identity. The church is currently closed. Croatia's main political activities (Parliament) is also located on St Mark's Square.

Clean, quiet, colourful roof stands out beautifully against the autumn blue sky. Go around to view it from the back also.
Bren K — Google review
Saint Mark’s Church uniquely colourful tiled roof makes it a Zagreb icon! Also, it is one of the oldest buildings in the city dating from the 13th century. Depending on the time or day, this section of the main square is bordered off by security due to government meetings so you may not get to see inside the church!

The Museum of Illusions is an engaging attraction that offers a blend of optical illusion exhibits and a 'smart playroom' filled with games and puzzles. Visitors can expect to embark on an intriguing visual, sensory, and educational journey suitable for all ages. The museum's interactive displays provide insight into the mind, perception, human brain, and science while challenging visitors to comprehend why the eyes perceive things differently than the brain comprehends.
Feeling sick after the first interactive illusion….. absolutely brilliant though and well worth spending a couple of hours visiting. Easy to find and very interesting. Lots to keep all ages interested and very enjoyable.

Hidden in an alleyway with a dark entrance, it was difficult for my mum (a senior) to climb up the stairs due to the low visibility. This museum is quite quaint and small, and staff are friendly. However I probably wouldn't visit again given we saw the entire museum and interacted with the exhibits in under an hour.
G Z — Google review
Very nice and friendly staff today. The museum itself which was 12euro per person was too limited in comparison with other museum of illusions or teamlabs, therefore I think a ticket of 5 euro would have been a better and suitable price for what you get. Many stuff are also worn out or dirty looking . I’m sure in time they can get better and expand maybe to a better location with more room and maybe a renovation. Thanks
Parisa D — Google review
It was good. We went there with small kids (4-6 years old).. That was not a good idea. The museum was interesting, but my kids were misbehaving, so I couldn’t even read the instructions. Parking was difficult. We are from Hungary, and we had to find an application download on the phone, then register with bankcard then deposit, then pay 1 hour. Since we left early we didn’t need more. The cash part of the parking automat wasn’t working. 1€ deposit and 1,6€/hour for parking. You can’t buy more than 2 hours because 1st zone. But I think you don’t need more. The receptionist lady was kind in the museum. Museum is 12€/ person for adults. Kids were free. So all in all it’s good but not with small kids, and parking was difficult.

Very fun hands on museum with a variety of different exhibits showcasing many illusions. I especially liked that each exhibit had an explanation on how the illusion worked. Great museum to explore!
Satori . — Google review
Interesting exhibits and fun illusions, but the space is quite small and it was very crowded during our visit. The staff was attentive and quick to clean and maintain everything. However, the €12 entrance fee feels overpriced — a fair price would be around €5–7. Overall, worth a quick visit, but manage your expectations.
Victor K — Google review
It's a fun place to visit (especially with kids) when you have some time to spare. They have a small shop where you can buy a few brain teasers and some puzzles. You can also play a few games to tingle your thinking ;) It is however overpriced. 12€ is too much for what you get.
Joanna M — Google review
This place in Zagreb is worth a visit with family/ friends to experience sone quirky visuals as you put yourself in some setups and come out laughing about whether it was really you. While there are instructions for all the setups, you may need to take help of the museum staff to understand them better

Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls, find peaceful spots to read or simply take in the tranquil ambiance. Zrinjevac is particularly enchanting during summer events and the festive Christmas market during winter.
Beautiful park located in the center of Zagreb. It stretches across several streets. A lot of interesting plants, well-kept grass. In addition, the buildings make a big impression. It is worth walking through this park and admiring its beauty. I recommend it!

As part of the Lenuci’s Horseshoe, this park is officially named Trg Nikole Šubića Zrinskog (Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square). Established in 1892, the area was originally used for agriculture and livestock markets but was transformed into a public park as part of an urban beautification project. The park features a music pavilion, a meteorological column, fountains, and busts of notable historical figures. During Advent in Zagreb, the park is beautifully decorated with lights and festive ornaments, becoming a lively venue for concerts, performances, and holiday markets.

This park is gorgeous! It's like a live action painting. Beautiful fountains, people picnicking on the grass, couples strolling under the white trees, elderly woman sitting on the bench, kids skipping about, colorful flower gardens, lovers taking pictures in the gazebo, and me...with my jaw dropped like an idiot. Wonderful place to see.

Zagreb’s city center has truly transformed into a lovely place to stroll and unwind, with beautifully renovated buildings and monuments all around. One of the highlights is the spacious and peaceful Zrinjevac Park—definitely one of the most relaxing spots in town. I wish I had taken more photos, especially of the magnificent old trees that give the park its charm. Zrinjevac, officially known as Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square, was established in the late 19th century as part of Zagreb’s famous Green Horseshoe—a series of interconnected parks and squares. It has since remained a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Well worth a visit.

Excellent weekend day getaway for couples and families. Beautiful nature scenery but not many other activities, for better or worse. I never get tired of going to Jarun. This is an awesome demonstration of what can be done in a city with a good planning and the purpose of making the city friendlier to its inhabitants. Lakes are very extense, with at least three large artificial beaches that are frequently visited in summer time. Cafes and restaurants are very well distributed around all lakes. Wonderful place for jogging, walking or riding with a bicycle. Different kinds of courts are available for sports like volleyball, basketball, skating, etc. There are also many regatta clubs in the lake. Small open cabins or huts to go on sundays with grill facilities nearby. Toilet services are available all around the park and showers are also available near beaches. Many swans dwell in the lakes and are a spectacle to visitors. One of the wonderful places of Zagreb, a must-see in particular if you are in the city in spring, summer or fall time.
Reinaldo G — Google review
It was fantastic for a hot summer day (37 C) to visit the lake. A particular highlight would be the smaller lake, with the "island of love" in the middle. It looks less man-made and has a lot of green sights when you're swimming. In good days you can see fish swimming alongside you and touch water lilies within the greater depths. One warning I would add is that doing a full round trip hike through the lake gets you to the nudist beach without much forewarning. Sensitive people beware (lol) If you're wondering whether Bundek or Jarun is the right choice - definitely skip Bundek and go to Jarun.

As part of Lenuci’s Horseshoe, this square is also known as Tomislavac. It was originally named after Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I, but in 1927, it was renamed to honor King Tomislav, the first king of Croatia. At the southern end of the square stands a bronze equestrian statue of King Tomislav, created by Robert Frangeš-Mihanović in 1938 and installed in 1947. On the northern side is the Art Pavilion, built in 1898, which now serves as one of Zagreb’s key art exhibition spaces. Tortureum - Museum of Torture is a haunting yet fascinating destination in Zagreb that delves into the darker chapters of human history. This compact museum showcases an extensive collection of over 70 instruments used for torture and execution, including chilling artifacts like a full-scale guillotine and the infamous Iron Maiden. Visitors are equipped with multimedia guides available in multiple languages, enhancing their understanding of each gruesome exhibit.
Definitely recommended - especially for history lovers or else those who perhaps are interested to get to know a bit about the dark side of mankind. They gave us tablets which explained each piece thoroughly - which definitely made our experience much better. Also, this was available in 5 or 6 languages. Tickets are fairly cheap at around €6 each (there are good deals for families and groups) - so definitely recommend giving it a go if you're anywhere around Zagreb's upper town 😀

We had such a good experience at the museum. It was really interesting to see all the collection, and thanks to the interactive tablets provided - we could understand better how, when and why each piece was used. It's a vivid reminder of the dark history of mankind - the sad but true (ongoing) history. Definitely recommend visiting whilst in Zagreb!

I loved this odd place. It is very small and is too dark. I understand the need for darkness to affect the mood required, but it's too dark to see what you're looking at adequately and to see where you're going EXACTLY. There is a short, silent video at the end. I recognized many images from the "Faces of Death" videos of my youth. It's nothing gruesome but conveys the terror we as humans are capable of inflicting on others (and filming it). I left with tears in my eyes. Bravo to the creators for coming up with this idea that hits you right in the gut IF you watch the video. Most people pass it by. Don't.

Sights & Landmarks
Manduševac Fountain, located in Zagreb's main square, Ban Jelačić Square, is a historic landmark with a special lore. Legend has it that throwing a coin into the charming small fountain can make your wish come true. The fountain is made of white stone and features an ornate circular basin with a central column topped by a statue of a young woman holding a jug, symbolizing the city's life-giving water source.
Very nice city center, I like Zagreb 😍. Here different photos from different places 😍
Younes H — Google review
This fountain is one of Zagreb’s most recognizable symbols and is tied to a local legend about the origin of the city's name. Historically, there was a natural spring at this spot, serving as an important source of drinking water for the residents. According to legend, a weary warrior returning from battle stopped at the spring and asked a girl for water, saying: "Mando, dušo, zagrabi vode"—which means "Manda, dear, scoop up some water." The girl's name was Manda, and the word "zagrabiti" means "to scoop". From this phrase, the city’s name Zagreb is said to have been formed. While this is not linguistically accurate, it remains a beloved folktale. The fountain was covered during square renovations in 1898 but was restored in 1986 to its current form. Today, it’s not only a popular meeting place but also a spot where people make wishes.
Seokjin H — Google review
No one knows where the name #Zagreb came from. Several theories and legends attempt to explain its origin, but none have been definitively proven. One of the most popular folk tales involves a thirsty soldier who asked a local girl to "zagrabi" (meaning "scoop" or "draw") water from a well, giving rise to the name Zagreb. This is the location of the well 😯

However I think it is very important for Croatians because there are candles here every now and then. Dunno why but there must absolutely be a reason

We are big fans of Bundek City Park. Both my kid and I. Since he took his first steps, Bundek offers multiple playgrounds for kids from toddler to teenager age. Toddlers appropriate playground is situated across the big lake, while this one on the pictures, is situated next to the parking lot, and across Center Bundek.

Lake Bundek is divided into Big Lake and Small Lake. It is located along the river Sava. Budek Beach has been arranged on Bih lake. The small lake was left as a natural habitat for numerous plant and animal species. The area around the lake is arranged as an entertainment and recreational park. Barbecues, concrete barbecues with garden benches and tables have been installed. There are a lot of bicycle paths as well as roller rinks. Playground for volleyball and handball. I noticed a lot of different trees and it is regularly maintained, cherries are planted.

Bundek City Park, nestled in the Novi Zagreb area, is a beautiful and versatile public space that offers an array of activities and experiences for visitors of all ages. Historical Background Bundek Park has an interesting history. Initially, it was a gravel pit, excavated in 1955 for the construction of the Zagreb Fair pavilions and transportation surfaces. The extraction continued until 1960 for the construction of the Freedom Bridge. As the pit was excavated below the groundwater level, it eventually filled with water, transforming into a lake. Over time, the area evolved from a gravel pit into a popular recreational site for the citizens of Zagreb. However, in the early 1980s, the park faced challenges due to unsanitary conditions, leading to a ban on swimming in the lake. This resulted in Bundek becoming somewhat neglected until its renovation and transformation into the modern park it is today . Present-Day Features Today, Bundek City Park is a beloved location for relaxation and recreation. It spans approximately 550,000 square meters, offering a beautiful landscape with various activities. Visitors can enjoy walking around the lake, biking, running, and picnicking. The park also has a boat service for those who wish to experience the lake from the water. Besides its natural beauty, Bundek is frequently the site for events and festivals, including the famous Bundekfest music festival and Christmas markets . Accessibility and Facilities Access to Bundek City Park is straightforward, with public transportation options available from different parts of the city. The park is well-equipped with numerous parking spaces, and its location near the eastern parking lot of the Zagreb Fair makes it easily accessible for visitors. The park is also equipped with bars and cafes around the lake, offering refreshments and meals . Suggested Itinerary in Zagreb Starting from Bundek City Park 1. Start at Bundek City Park: Begin your day with a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoying the serene environment and lush greenery. 2. Explore Gornji Grad: Head to Gornji Grad, the historic upper town of Zagreb, known for its picturesque streets and squares rich in history and cultural heritage. 3. Visit St. Mark’s Church: Don’t miss the iconic St. Mark’s Church, famous for its colorful tiled roof. 4. Tower of Lotrščak and the Zagreb Cathedral: Climb the Tower of Lotrščak for panoramic city views and visit the Zagreb Cathedral, a stunning example of Gothic architecture. 5. Relax at Zrinjevac Park: End your day at Zrinjevac Park, close to the main square, perfect for unwinding amidst charming fountains and lush greenery. Overall Impression Bundek City Park in Zagreb is not just a recreational area but a symbol of the city’s transformation and commitment to providing green spaces for its residents and visitors. It offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and modern amenities, making it an essential stop for anyone visiting Zagreb.

Bundek City Park is a beautiful oasis located in the heart of Zagreb, Croatia. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a wide range of outdoor activities and entertainment options. The park is well-maintained, with plenty of green space and walking paths. There are several playgrounds for children, as well as sports facilities for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. The lake in the center of the park is a highlight, offering a peaceful place to relax and take in the scenery. One thing to note, however, is that the park's restroom facilities are often in disarray. Despite efforts to keep them clean, they can become quite messy and unpleasant to use. This is the one negative aspect of an otherwise wonderful park. Overall, Bundek City Park is a must-visit destination in Zagreb. Its beautiful setting and variety of activities make it a great place to spend a day with family or friends. Just be prepared to bring your own hand sanitizer and tissues, as the restroom facilities can be less than ideal.
Nikola P — Google review
I walked the full length of the park from east to west. The west side is the more interesting with two lakes, food stalls, bar and children's play area together with some formal cultivated flowers. The east side is more wild/natural with grassland and meadow flowers, but with plenty of shade from the many trees and lots of benches for sitting.
Miles M — Google review
Underrated place in Zagreb. Relaxing, dog and family friendly. Good cafes and bars in the area. Worth checking out if you just wanna chill and get of the city
Vieran H — Google review
Really nice place for a walk or a barbique if you are around. Good park for children as well. The (main) lake is small and cute, and it is allowed to swim there. There is another lake part where there are more birds but no groupel around, looks more natural and not for swimming. Overall, nicely kept midsize park. However, all the bars are closed, guess due to Covid. There is one place offering coffee to go,but no tables nor anything.

The National University Library in Zagreb, situated near the SPUNK bar, is a charming establishment frequented by students who enjoy live music and affordable drinks. Its distinctive decor features an array of film posters and vintage-style artwork adorning the walls. As evening falls, the venue transforms into a vibrant nightclub. The library itself boasts a stunning architectural design that is highly recommended for both educational and touristic purposes. With an extensive collection encompassing various genres, it offers accessible literature to all visitors.
lovely place if you need to go study somewhere the atmofsphere is great

10/10 air conditioning. Nice and warm in winter, and almost too cold on Zagrebs hot summer days
Ben — Google review
A lovely library that you’re not allowed to take pictures in without the express advance consent of the national library marketing department. Quite a unique take on marketing when the average under 25 person gets their information about new places from Instagram and TikTok - visual mediums. It’s almost like they’ve got a giant building full of books but they’re not actually smart enough to read any of them.
RR R — Google review
Friendly staff, possibility of education, borrowing and learning from rare books. Highly recommended.
Mirko B — Google review
Beautiful building with very nice atmosphere! And full of so amazing books, archive periodic, rare and old literature, ... Library staff is very attentive and knowledgeable! Absolutely recommendable not only for studying and professional purposes but also for sightseeing since this is one of the many Zagreb's architecture landmarks!
Shane C — Google review
I like the look of the building a lot. Free to go inside. It was interesting building. The library interior offers many spaces for readers and researchers. Also anyone who wants to access its extensive gallery of books and periodicals. However it was closed when I went.
Globetrekker S — Google review
Best library in town. WiFi is tricky but great if you manage to connect. There's books in every language imaginable. You'll find mostly university students. There's a gardarobe to leave your things safely (you're obliged to). There's also multiple stories and each one has a different feel to it-there's always the best one for you and what you want to focus on in the library.
Cherry S — Google review
Beautiful building, very big and with lots of space. Except there is no soap and toilet paper in whole building. Can become a little tricky...

Park
Park Ribnjak, located in Zagreb, Croatia's Upper Town area, is a serene green oasis with English-style 19th-century gardens. Originally fishponds owned by the Bishop of Zagreb, it now offers well-maintained walking paths and lush lawns. The park hosts summer concerts and is home to Art Park Zagreb and Kaptol Art Park, an open-gallery walkway overlooking the city.
Strolled through in the evening after dinner on a Sunday and there was a concert in the park. Great atmosphere- family friendly and very safe.
Anne — Google review
This is a nice and sizeable grassy area close to town. Lots of benches, bins and paths. Loved that there was a free toilet too!
Emily K — Google review
There is a lot of dog excrement on the grass, and during a visit to the park one was able to see a lady walking her two large dogs covering their poop with leaves from a tree. Near the playground there is a lot of human excrement in the bushes, better watch your children not to go there. Overall, the park looks neglected, there is a lot of rubbish and empty alcohol bottles. The only positive is the location in the city centre and the view of the cathedral.
Lubomir K — Google review
Nice green park with a lot of trees and paths. Located in the center of town. The only problems with this park are excessive littering and graffiti on benches and rubbish cans. It all needs to be solved by implementing park rangers and security guards who penalized who ever is caught littering or doing graffiti without permission. It’s vandalism what tells why it’s very illegal. People also don’t clean up after their dogs which is not good👎. It smells bad, looks gross and there is a risk of kids stepping in it, yuck🤮! Too many cigarette butts thrown on the ground not in the ashtray☹️. If smokers don’t start disposing the cigarettes in the ashtray, smoking will be banned in this park🚭, I swear to God. Since there are only some dogs kept on a leash, most of them are walking loose which I don’t like since it can pose a safety hazard and it really bothers me seeing it😫😫😫😫😫. I can’t believe that something like this is just seen in Croatia, not in other European countries😭😢🤦‍♂️. Balkan behavior needs to stop right away, no more! If it doesn’t get solved, encouragement banner will come up. All dog owners in Croatia need to change their habits and get use to the new rules. I’m sorry, but that’s how it is. Even in the United States a lot of pets are kept on a leash(except for designated areas where dogs can walk or run without a leash). One of these problems need to be solved by putting surveillance cameras and/or park rangers. If none of these problems get solved, I’m out of this country ❌. All these new rules don’t just apply to this park, but to all other parks in all of Croatia. The new rubbish cans should have separate compartments for paper, plastic and metal, glass and organic waste so that more waste could be recycled rather than disposed in a landfill.🙏🏼♻️👍❤️🤩
The E — Google review
It's a very pretty park located in the city center. It's perfect for a day trip and a relaxing moment. Occasionally, in the summer, they host some great events, as it has a cultural center within it.
Santiago A — Google review
A charming park. Very well-kept greenery, mowed grass, many interesting trees. Entering this park you can relax. Nearby is the famous cathedral. I recommend it!
Szymon W — Google review
A much-needed patch of green in the middle of the concrete hell outside. It needs to be taken care of though! Maintenance is clearly lacking in some places.
Guilherme C — Google review
A good size park with both open stretches of grass and shaded areas under the trees. Plenty of benches for sitting. The children's play area is currently closed. This park sits in the shadow of the Cathedral which is still undergoing reconstruction work following the 2020 earthquake. Some great "graffiti art" along the western wall of park.
