I got a Banana Split cupcake and it was wonderful. Creamy frosting, delicious filling, excellent cake (banana bread, maybe, or at least it tasted like it) and a cherry on top. My friend got a slice of the Lemon Tart and a chocolate chip cookie. The young employee helping us was really nice, but I think she felt overwhelmed by the line of people started to form. Towards the end of putting our order together, another employee came to help. I also felt we were kinda rushed out of there. So much so, that after we were handed our food, out the door, and almost to the car-- an employee came running out with a box in her hand. She forgot to give us one of our slices. The berry scone was pretty good. It was dense, moist, and cooked perfectly. I was excited to try the rhubarb custard pie, but unfortunately it fell short for me. The rhubarb wasn't tart at all, giving it a real subtle taste. Possibly could have used too much sugar to cut the tartness. The custard and crust part wasn't bad. I could taste the nutmeg and cinnamon and a hint of vanilla. The blueberry cheesecake tart had great flavor. It wasn't too cheesy nor sugary. Preferably, I wished it had a bit more blueberry topping. The crust was interesting--it was good and I think it had nuts, oatmeal, and coconut mixed into it. My friend said his lemon tart was really good but that the winner was the chocolate chip cookie. He said it was on the softer side and filled with mini sweet chocolate chips that he really enjoyed. For now, I'll continue my quest in search of yummy pies in CDA and Spokane.

My only issue with this place is that it is INCREDIBLY busy all the time. Because it’s always busy, it takes quite a while to get your food and you have already stood in line for 20 or so minutes waiting to order. The servers were nice but seemed very overwhelmed. I would recommend getting here right when it opens, or toward the end of their day so you don’t have to wait so long and feel rushed. The atmosphere is fun and colorful. I’ve came in and ordered a few times. Each and everytime was a completely different experience. The “new” girl working the counter needs an exponential amount of more training, she’s clueless and I can tell she gets on her coworkers nerves. She needs more customer service training, more shop knowledge, and just a better attitude all together. She gives the impression of the owners daughter that can’t get fired. Lol The couple of times I went in and the girls “kind of” knew what they were doing were the best, my donuts and drinks came out how they are advertised. They are cooked and made to order; so it does take time that they don’t care to tell you about (about 10-30mins). I’ve order the same type of drink and it came out looking and tasted differently every visit. I’ve paid for various sizes and received the drink in the same cup. First time trying it and we were really impressed with everything. Our server Sean was wonderful and attentive. He made great recommendations and we loved everything that we tried. E salads were awesome and we also loved the rolls. They gave us little chocolates for our anniversary which was very appreciative and they were very tasty. The only negatives I have are the area is a little sketchy and we chose to walk there from our hotel. I would not recommend walking in the area. And the only negative I could find in the food was that my parmesan polenta was a little colder than the other items on my plate. This a very cute place on the inside that also is super casual and no frills despite the menu. The Saranac commons is an artistic, open-concept building that hosts Common Crumb Artisan Bakery, Mediterrano, Caffé Affogato and of course - Black Label Brewery, Head to the back of the building upon entering and on the left hand side you will find the bakery. The open air common-area space has no defining breaks between the business and that allows for a much more welcoming inviting area. The Brewery area primarily has the majority of seating but it's a general seating concept so all patrons may use any seating area space. The pastries and baked good had a great eye appealing look but I found the three varieties of pastries we selected to be right at the average mark. Again, do not let the rating misguide you as they have plenty of items and my wife and I only selected three. As stated they were good but did not rank as superb.

Received a 3 tier round cake, no glitter, image was on the side instead of the top and was thus rippled and not seemless. The cake itself tasted like a typical Walmart cake. Not moist or anything inviting. This was very frustrating as I spent $80 for the cake and tipped $20, so $100 in total. It was also my 14 year olds birthday cake. No one liked the cake taste wise, but my child was excited to see the image on the cake. Truly disappointed, cake was not cheap and I don't understand how the design of the cake changed so drastically from what was discussed and drawn on paper by the bakery owner. My child and I have gone to this bakery for 5 years, getting cupcakes and I was so excited to order them a special cake from our bakery place. I am truly disappointed. While they're cupcakes and macarons are fantastic, I would never order a cake here again though.
