The IL side over in Venice is a speed trap coming in so heed the warning. The pedestrian path is a colossal mess with trash, broken glass, and other unsavory things everywhere. I would not recommend a bicycle unless you wanna risk a flat tire and would wear closed-toe shoes as well. It’s really not a safe area on either side of the river so walk/jog it at your own risk. I parked my car for 20 minutes and went over the bridge and back and when I returned there was a handprint on my driver’s side window where someone was looking to see if it was worth breaking into. We didn't pay extra for the roof experience and I'm glad we didn't because we couldn't even finish the entire inside in about 4 hours. Definitely plan a whole day here. We left the Gateway Arch and almost immediately the experience went from awesome to unsightly. It's obvious that the people in charge have abandoned the Greenway. We had to go up a couple of blocks around to get on it.. I thought a milenor two of unsightly views but 5-6 miles into it there we're still junk yards. It does not feel safe at all. Grass over grown, saw a couple of snakes crossing the path. Dreadful. GOLD NUGGET: The start (The Gateway Arch) and the very end (the mile-long historical Route 66 bridge) are the only gems on this ride. If you can deal with the miserable ride then the start & finish are truly gold nuggets. Whom ever is in charge should declare it closed or should clean it up & make it safe.

The trailhead is hard to find as it isn't connected to the trail that follows the riverfront in front of the Arch. I had to weave through what seemed like the back lot of Ashley Power to access the trailhead. Once I was on the trail, the floodwall blocked all river views. As I passed the homeless encampment, the air was filled with noxious fumes from their fires and the other industrial buildings around the area. On the plus side, it was nicely paved, there was a lot of interesting art and it passes under an architecturally interesting bridge. I only went a couple miles so maybe the trail gets better.
