As a Chinese, I don’t really understand why this place says it’s Chinese. The beef was really dry and the veggie almost tasteless. And I can’t believe a bowl of rice was charged for 5£ and it wasn’t even the Asian rice nor cooked in a proper way. Totally overly charging for what was offered (don’t forget they also charge 12.5% service fee on the top). I get it that they try to offer a nice service, thus 2 stars instead of 1, but why does there have to be someone staring at the hallway to see if anyone needs service while there were only 3 occupied tables?

This is my first visit to this Malay restaurant but sufficed to say it deserves another visit. That Rendang Beef was better than I had imagined but was certainly good enough to recommend it to anyone. Nasi Goreng could have been better. Waitress was helpful and cheerful.

The nasi goreng was ok. Great presentation of ingredients, the combination of the crackers, peanuts, salted fish and cucumber added to the unique texture and flavour. However, the fried rice seemed to lack the 鑊氣 I was looking for (translation: it refers to a taste that only comes with proper stir-frying the rice). Maybe this is how authentic Malaysian cuisine is prepared - I am not 100% familiar with it to begin with - but I had really high hopes when I discovered this Malaysian restaurant. Every time I visit Oxford, I make sure to dine at Man Kee. The staff are always warm and welcoming, and the dishes are full of flavour. Their signature curry pepper crab is an absolute must-try! Their Cantonese Duck (on the bone) is the most delicious Duck I have eaten. See photo.
Our king prawn with cashews and yellow bean sauce was so generous we couldn't finish the cashews. That's a first for us! The wine was very good for the price.
The real winner for this restaurant is the outstanding atmosphere. It feels as if you are taken to another time and place when you walk in. The staff are very warm and friendly too and we had some good laughs.
Highly recommended and can't wait to return.

The service and food were overall good. I specifically come here for the Szechuan dishes, and have enjoyed their gungbao jiding / Kung Pao Chicken in the past. Unfortunately, they must have taken down our order wrongly because what they brought was sweet and sour chicken instead. We really enjoyed the food and visited two days in a row. There was plenty of choice, and it’s good value for the money spent. Drinks are a bit expensive, but free parking is available (just make sure to register your vehicle). We also appreciated the 10% NHS discount.
We had a great time overall, but one downside was being charged £11 for my 24-month-old baby, who only had a few bites of pizza. It’s a Chinese buffet. That has its own problems of keeping the food hot. Yet, even accepting that it is hard, the food was generally like warm at best, which is not acceptable.
The Teppenyaki bar was very good. Fresh and hot.
Otherwise the buffet dishes:

Can’t argue with a £10 all you can eat lunch buffet! Drinks are a bit expensive but tap water is available. The food was alright quality and there’s plenty of it. Me and my family went there yesterday 6th May 2024 for my birthday meal.
We spent nearly £200 between us majority of my family traveled from London and Bournemouth to come here.
The waiters was putting hot food on top of the stale cold food that’s been sat there for a while.
The food was dripping in grease and you couldn’t eat it at all. Some of the food was burnt and when I tapped it on the table it broke to pieces.
All night we have all been sick and had stomachache night sweats.

It might be easy to miss Paddyfields as it looks a bit inconspicuous on the outside and is not as widely lauded as some of the other Chinese restaurants in Oxford but if you are looking for an economical yet filling meal that will leave you thinking about it for days this restaurant is a must -try!
Their menu can be a bit disorienting as there are so many options but the staff are very helpful and will give you recommendations and answer any questions. If you are going as a group it’s a good idea if everyone orders what they find appealing and you then share as then everyone will get a chance to try out more menu items.
We went as a group of four and ordered a shredded crispy duck, pork belly hot pot, a beef in oyster sauce sizzle, black bean beef noodles, mixed meat dumplings, glutinous rice and a spicy sour soup. There was literally not a single dish that we disliked from the ones we ordered, everything was astonishingly delicious, it was prepared super quickly and the staff served it with a lot of care and attention to detail.
The price in the end was £24 per person but considering we definitely ordered more than we could eat, I’d say you can get an amazing meal here for about £20 a head.
Again I would like to emphasise that the staff was really kind and quick with the service and even patiently waited for us to finish our meal even as they were starting to close the restaurant.

I've been to Xi'an a few times with my partner and it's one of my favourite restaurants in Oxford. The atmosphere is perfectly pitched: usually lightly buzzing but not at all noisy, with tables well spaced, and a subdued, relaxing decor. Amazing gluten free Chinese food!! For the first time in my life as a coeliac, I managed to get gluten free Chinese takeaway and it was soo delicious! The takeaway menu has a star next to all the dishes that could be made gluten free and there was a huge selection! When we were given the order in the takeaway boxes, we were shown that all the gluten free dishes had a little gluten free sticker to distinguish them from the standard versions which I really appreciated. It's been a while since I last ate their food as they don't deliver so I had to drive there (parking can be tricky). Their garlic and pepper chicken wings are excellent as ever (think these are my favourite of all the Oxford takeaways, they even cut the corner of the box to keep takeaways crisp on the journey home). Seems like a family run place but they need to find a more friendly person for the front desk. Good food with decent portions, the front desk lady seems quite unhappy at her job and had a dour personality which can be a big turnoff. I got the Tofu vegetable with fried rice. You can’t really screw up tofu with vegetables. Fried rice was nothing to write home about - just fried. No eggs, green peas or carrots that you see in typical Chinese fried rice.. i would give this place a 4 star but I was shocked to find no fork or paper napkin in my bag even after I had asked the front page for a paper plate (which should have clued the lady in) so had to beg the nearby peri-peri burger place for a fork. By the way they accept **Cash Only** they turned away people who had no cash when I was there. For the money, there are better Chinese restaurants nearby but that Asian Mama Chinese place seemed MUCH better but has MSG in their food and unfortunately cannot do without.

Amounts of food are great, they do care about taste being right. Even simply starters are created with perfection. Everything is always hot, nicely cooked, perfectly ready for eating. Delivery driver is always positive, smiling - can easily find your place.

I recently visited Lucky Chopsticks Takeaway for the first time at around 5pm. I ordered their house special rice, egg fried rice, sweet chilli and garlic chicken balls, chips, and a chicken chow main. The food was perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. I shared my black pepper chicken here, kindly made without mushrooms as they’re not my fave. The portion on the plate is only about half of the portion (the rest is in the tub) and half of the rice I ordered, which is lovely and means I get to have the rest for lunch. The mini spring rolls are delightful and crunchy even when delivered, and my partner likes the crispy won tons. Delivery sometimes takes a bit and I think we may have had a night with a different chef where our usual orders tasted a little different, but when your food is made fresh by real people, every once in a while that’ll happen. If you come in in person, there’s a little bench to sit and wait for your order to be ready. Never takes long. To those being unkind and impatient in your reviews, quit it. It’s not necessarily the restaurant’s fault your order took a while to get to you. The steamed Char Siu buns were the best out of the collection. The filling had taste at least. The chicken satay tasted lacklustre and stale. Good luck tasting any trace of peanuts with that one. The real let down was the thai chicken curry. We didnt expect great things and our expectations were met. The hit of lemongrass was like gargling with lemon washing up liquid and then the burn masked any other flavour if any was present to find. This meal wasn't cheap. If you are going to spend that much money there are much better options.

I love it the wife can’t get enough and even the kids can find food they like. I’d almost started to think good Chinese food in UK was a thing of the past but Tim’s is really excellent. Black bean sauce is perfectly balanced not too salty. Lovely smokey chow mein noodles.
