1Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach

Beach
Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach is a unique destination in Iceland that showcases the country's innovative use of geothermal resources. This popular beach features a lagoon with warmed water, golden sand, and hot tubs, providing visitors with a one-of-a-kind experience. Despite Iceland's cool climate, the geothermally heated ocean pool allows for year-round enjoyment of warm waters and traditional Icelandic sea bathing.
This was the best thing I have ever done! Jumping in the ocean was so rad! There's a killer steam room, geothermal pool... the place is incredible, and the people working there are awesome! As far as the photos: there are other warm pools, but I'm not going to rudely take photos of the people who were chilling there. I'm so bummed that after finally getting the huevos to check it out by myself, it's my last day here 😂🤦‍♂️. Soon enough, I will be back. Soon enough...

Great little beach. Pretty and not too busy. You can see the steam rising from the water and close to the hot tub area the sea water is warm
Kelly R — Google review
Totally worth visiting! For not much money, you can stay there indefinitely. Way more affordable than other famous spa places like Blue Lagoon. The outdoor heated pool is great and they also have a very hot steam room. You can alternate between the outdoor pool and the cold lagoon, or even try to swim in the sea nearby
Álvaro M — Google review
A beautiful little hidden beach. The geothermal pool is only open certain days during the winter and isnt very big or deep.. Free parking is nearby. You can walk around the bottom of the runway from the beach. It's normally very quiet and secluded. Definitely a beautiful tranquil place to visit.
R J — Google review
Amazing place, public, free, opens 10am-7pm in the summer! GREAT PLACE
Pámela B — Google review
After a short swim in the open water sea, which is indeed cold of course, you can warm yourself up in the hot pool, have a shower, while your stuff is waiting in the changing room. Definitely worth it!
Levente K — Google review
Amazing local spot, great warm pool and easy access to the sea! Even saw a few seals in the bay. Would recommend!
Tom L — Google review
My son and I went around midday on a Wednesday in March and there were only a handful of locals in the hot springs. It was a delightful, no frills spot that I would highly recommend. The locals would alternate between dipping in the ocean and coming into the hot pool. I just alternated between the hot pool and the sauna and had a wonderfully relaxing time. Side note - you can rent towels from the kiosk.

Restaurant
Nauthóll is a popular spot for visitors to enjoy a variety of delicious food options after spending the day at the nearby geothermal beach. The area offers two restaurants, Bragginn Bar and Nautholl, as well as a snack bar at the service center. Bragginn Bar, located in a renovated 1940s military barracks, serves drinks, hamburgers, tacos, and chicken wings. Visitors have praised their Deluxe hamburger and excellent fries.
We visited this restaurant with our family (16 people in total) and the experience was wonderful. The service was excellent—fast and very friendly, which truly impressed us considering the size of our group. The food was spectacular: we tried fish, beef, lamb, and burgers for the kids. Every dish was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and with generous portions. Everyone left completely satisfied. The atmosphere is very pleasant, perfect for sharing with family or friends. Without a doubt, this is a place we will return to and highly recommend.
Betzabe M — Google review
We sat outside when we visited as the weather was nice, and they have plenty of outdoor seating. The food was very tasty and the coffee was good. The view from the outside sitting area is decent and the place is clean. The negatives are noise from the nearby airport, and the smoking area not separated from non-smoking so we got cigarette smoke with our lunch. They forgot our order which is disappointing for a place this expensive.
Gudmundur J — Google review
I had an absolutely magical dinner there with extended family and my landlady. The view is wonderful and it's not downtown so it's quiet and peaceful. The food was fantastic. Some of our party had diabetes but the wait staff and cooks kept that in mind while preparing the dishes. The portion sizes are excellent too. Tea was surprisingly good, there are six blends. Would definitely go back for more celebrations!
Rohit G — Google review
Location of restaurant is great. Right next to the Geothermal Beach, and the University. If the weather is nice, you can sit at the outdoor patio. I had the Red Snapper (Fish of the day) with carrot puree. Fish was cooked ok but the dish surprisingly lacks seasoning. My wife had the seafood soup. The soup was tasty but there are only tiny pieces of shrimps and fishes.
Teddy C — Google review
That was a great brunch!! Nice atmosphere, helpful staff. Great location, might need to take a walk after in the beautiful area to digest the food and enjoy the views.
Maria B — Google review
We were dumped at a hotel after our flight was cancelled and we walked about 15min to this cafe. They welcomed us without a reservation. The service was excellent. The food was delicious and cooked, served, garnished and presented perfectly. Totally worth walking. They saved our day! Yum
Kathy J — Google review
I wanna start by saying that the food was nice, definitely not worth the big price they put up on it but there was nothing to complain regarding that. Service on the other hand is way below average, there was less than minimal attention paid to us as customers and the knowledge of food and drinks was abysmal. First we order a dish, we wait for it for quite some time and then we’re left with disappointing news that it’s not available at that hour, THIS HAPPENED WITH BREAKFAST, LUNCH, BRUNCH AND DINNER MENUS. Kids working should not hear the bad things that are said about them, this is purely management and their training issue. By this rate your restaurant will most likely flop🫡

A very pleasant Bistro/restaurant that is situated in the Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach area ... with both indoor & outdoor seating. 👍😊 I really like their shellfish soup and the Bruschettas are great ... as well as the warm Camambert cheese & the Beet salad. 😋😋 The servings are generous and perfect for sharing... with a beverage of choice. For dessert I recommend the chocolate truffles with rhe strawberries. Yum! 😍 The service is friendly but a bit slow. Prices are competitive. 😊

Restaurant
Bragginn Bar is a newly renovated restaurant located in a refurbished 1940s military barracks near Nautholsvik. The place offers a variety of food and drinks, including hamburgers, tacos, chicken wings, and more. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior is cozy and welcoming with friendly staff. Visitors have praised the generous portion sizes and reasonable prices for both adults and children's meals.
Our first day in Reykjavik found us at the Geothermal Beach and in need of some lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by this unassuming little place. We were 3 adults and 1 child. The "child size" chicken and fries was massive, an adult portion and only like 1100kr. The adults got 2 orders of 3 tacos (2 tacos each, but more economical to order this way). They were also large (6" tacos, not the mini 4" ones), delicious and, quite affordable per Iceland standards, especially considering their monopoly on food in the area. Would recommend. Maybe stay away from the wings based on other reviews.
Jennifer M — Google review
the worst wings, even though the photo may say otherwise. i don’t know what went wrong but tasted really weird & inedible. no flavour, just breading & even that tasted bad. really regret this as it wasn’t cheap either.
R — Google review
Looks like an army base mess hall as there used to be sea planes in the bay outside in WWII. It was a surprise find as it's not obvious this exists from the outside, but it was very cosy inside and a welcome break from the rainy weather. The staff were very friendly. The atmosphere is quiet for a Friday afternoon.
Simon O — Google review
Mixed feelings about this place. Staff was helpful and my chicken burger was awesome with great freedom fries, but the people I dined with were served burned burgers, overcharged 100 kr on an overpriced mediocre apple pie, and were less enthuasiastic about the self service aspects of the place. Overall good to go here when the weather is nice and you are in an agreeable frame of mind.
Yoav T — Google review
Nice burgers for lunch, nice stop on a walk along the bay. Not that there’s much choice 😂

Wonderful chicken pop corn🐔🍿, the panorama is also fantastic. The personal is very kind.

This place is out of the way but looks better inside than any photos online. The entrance is on the north side of the building and is not very well marked. The crispy chicken tacos were great!

Bus stop
Reykjavik BSI Bus Terminal serves as a transfer point for travelers staying outside the downtown area. It provides easy access to the city center, making it convenient for visitors to explore nearby attractions like the church on foot. The terminal is known for its helpful staff who go above and beyond to assist passengers, even in unexpected situations. Additionally, it offers shuttle services to Keflavik International Airport and features clean and spacious facilities, including shops and restaurants.
BSI bus terminal for shuttle flybus to Keflavik international airport. There are also shop and restaurant. The space is clean and roomy.
Fengmin C — Google review
There's an ATM and a cafe/restaurant for buying snacks. They sell pizza slices too. I took Reykjavik Excursions bus to Landmannalaugar at 7:00 and the cafe was already open before that. Quite pricey but convenient. The bus terminal is small, you won't get lost here.
Paula L — Google review
Unfortunately, there is no honesty inside the bus station. One of the employees inside the station sold me a ticket for 1200 ISK, and when I got on the yellow bus, I found the price was 650 ISK. Also, when I asked the employee where to wait and where to go, there was no answer or any help.
Faisal S — Google review
They have a policy about not telling people where the public bus stop is, claiming they don't know and that you have to look up the homepage of the public bus company, therefore they have read printed papers. It's ridiculous for me that the staff is not allowed to say "this exit to the left is the bus stop" and instead want the tourist to consult a general bus schedule homepage. It's just rude and they have that policy already minimum for over a year.
Jennifer G — Google review
I’ve just been at the reception at the central bus station BSI and i’ve bought 2 tickets by using the 2 for 1 offer on Nova. I had a very unpleasant service from a redhair receptionist (ukranian or polish i assume by the accent). She gave the receipt but not the yellow ticket that i usually receive so i can also take the bus in my way back, i’ve asked her for the tickets and she said that they are not giving them anymore. So i went to the bus with the receipt and obviously the lady on the bus sent me back because the receipt was saying only “2 adults” . So i had to go back in and ask the redhair lady for the yellow ticket, i didn’t like her attitude, she was pissed and disturbed by me asking for what i’ve paid for 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’m willing to take her job if she doesn’t like it, I believe i could give a better service for sure.
Andrea G — Google review
It's a short distance from the city by taxi and have to pay for the restroom though the staff are helpful and has plenty of seating and taxi's outside!
Percy S — Google review
pretty chaotic. we aren’t colourblind but somehow the color paper displayed on the mini bus windscreen not matching what the driver is holding, causing confusion among some commuters, could be better organised
Victor L — Google review
There is only one food option here, and the layout isn’t the best. The automatic sliding doors open frequently on both sides of the small building so it stays pretty chilly. The bathrooms also cost money (not a lot), and when I went there was no soap or paper towels. I’d recommend not staying here long! We used the luggage lockers here while we waited for our airbnb to open up. There were some scooters outside the terminal that we rented to ride into town (only about a 5min ride), so that was convenient. There are almost always taxis waiting outside, which we recommend using as they are less expensive than trying to use the Iceland-approved taxi app (which doesn’t work well at all, either).

Embark on the Puffin Express Skulaskeidh for an enchanting encounter with the charming Atlantic puffins near Reykjavik Harbor. Witness thousands of these endearing black and white birds with vibrant beaks, expressive eyes, and orange webbed feet as they nest, float, and soar around Arukey island. Despite their awkward flight, puffins are exceptional swimmers capable of diving nearly 200 feet in search of food.
We visited this island, teeming with Puffins and other birds in July, via a tour by Whale Safari which we booked thru the Get Your Guide app. It was only an hour, but that was perfect for us! They provided a speed boat, all the necessary safety gear, and binoculars. Wonderful opportunity to see the wildlife up close and enjoy views of Reykjavik from the water.

Black Sand Studio is a haven for relaxation and exploration. The Fontana Geothermal Baths offer a range of amenities including pools, hot tubs, steam baths, and a sauna. Situated near a picturesque lake and black sand beach, it's the perfect retreat for travelers seeking tranquility. Additionally, visitors can embark on personalized tours with knowledgeable guides like Dani who provide safe transportation and insider knowledge of Iceland's hidden gems.
To be on tour with Dani is like travelling with a friend. I first met him last year (in 09/2022) on a tour through the highlands. He is very friendly, homorous, a very careful and safe driver and he knows so many wonderful places. He has the same passion for Iceland as I do and I decided to book a private customized tour with him to Mælifell for this year (in 08/2023). I had been very often in Iceland so far and this place was one of my dream destinations. It was an amazing tour, I saw landscape and places out of this world. I would definitely go again with Dani and highly recommend him.

Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach is a popular spot in Reykjavik, where locals and visitors alike enjoy leisurely strolls and even take a dip in the warm waters. The beach features a hot water pump that keeps the ocean water comfortably warm for swimming during certain times of the year. While it's a bit of a walk from downtown Reykjavik, the clean facilities and beautiful surroundings make it worth the trip.
Extremely nice beach with a nice hot tube. The open sea water very fresh with 4 degree Celsius, outside about 2 , but Lokals went swimming, not just short they did at least 15 minutes , we didn’t. 😳
Christian G — Google review
Unfortunately, there's no water in the pools. That's a real shame. People keep coming and leaving disappointed. Unfortunately, it doesn't say anywhere why it's closed.
Michael R — Google review
Lovely public geothermal baths, a short bus from the city centre. Much much cheaper than any of the proper lagoons (circa £6) but felt like the true Icelandic experience. Sitting in the hot pool overlooking the sea, and dipping down into the lagoon to cool off. Great way to chill out for the afternoon
Bea D — Google review
An ideal place to meet locals. Forty degree weather did not encourage me to wear a bathing suit, but I enjoyed photographing the relaxing location. Vhuntermassage LLC

This is an amazing spot for a dip in the ocean and a hot pot.
Eirika A — Google review
Great steam bath by the sea!!! Just a few minutes from the Reykjavik university. The locals go for a swim in the ocean and then soak up in the steam bath both during summer and winter. When asked if the sea water is not too cold, they say: “Cold, nahhh.. you must try, it’s Viking style!” 💪🏼
Playmo B — Google review
So...the vents may or may not be pumping hot geothermal water. It's a weird, industrial area, but definitely recommend the hike around the bay.
Courtney C — Google review
Beautiful beach overlooking the bay with a steam pool. Note that the pool is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
