Hot dog restaurant
Restaurant
Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, which means "the best hot dog in town," is a legendary food stand located in central Reykjavik. Established in 1937, this humble stand has achieved cult status and is a must-visit for locals and tourists alike. The Icelandic version of the American hot dog served here features a unique blend of organic lamb, pork, and beef.
Pleasantly surprised. I was sure i wasn't going to like it. I'm not much of a hot dog person but had to try this famous hot dog with everything. Delicious! The crispy onions is such a good topping. Line was a bit long but it went quick. There are several table tops to get a quick bite and drink.
Vanessa R — Google review
Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur is probably the most famous hot dog stand in Iceland, and it’s become a bit of a tourist attraction in its own right. The location in central Reykjavík makes it easy to stop by, but be prepared for long lines, especially around lunchtime or in the evenings when tour groups and locals alike crowd in. The hot dogs themselves are tasty and hit the spot if you’re after a quick snack, but they don’t necessarily live up to the massive hype. Many visitors, and even locals, will tell you that you can find hot dogs at gas stations across Iceland that are just as good or even better. What really makes Bæjarins Beztu stand out are the sauces and toppings, especially if you order one “with everything” — crispy onions, raw onions, mustard, ketchup, and remoulade. The service is fast and straightforward, but don’t expect anything fancy; this is a simple hot dog stand with limited seating nearby. Prices are reasonable for Reykjavík, though like everything in Iceland, not exactly cheap compared to elsewhere. If you want to try it for the experience and say you’ve been, it’s worth doing once, especially if you happen to be in the area outside of peak hours. But if the line is long and you’re pressed for time, you’re not really missing out on anything life-changing. The real charm is the history and reputation, not necessarily the food itself. Overall, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur is fun for the novelty and a quick bite, but manage your expectations. It’s a hot dog with good toppings, not a culinary revelation, and you can find equally satisfying versions in many other spots around Iceland.
R — Google review
The best hot dogs I've ever had. Consistently amazing. If you come to Iceland then you have to get at least one hot dog and if you do you should get it from here. I would absolutely recgomend anyone to get a hot dog with everything, but if you just like a standard hot dog then ask for one with ketchup and yellow mustard. I could easily eat five of these in one go. Its not as cheap as it used to be but please go here, you wont regret it!
Bill B — Google review
As tourists, we read that trying the hot dogs from Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur is a must. We were expecting a long line since many people mentioned it. Luckily, there was no line at all when we arrived. For the experience, I’d definitely recommend it, even though the flavor isn’t mind-blowing, it’s really good and tasty. Make sure to order it “with everything” to get the full experience! The mix of crispy onions, raw onions, and sweet mustard is a unique and delicious combination that’s definitely worth trying if you’re exploring the full Icelandic experience.
Liz A — Google review
This tiny hotdog stand has become extremely popular but the quality is amazing. Had to have two. An Icelandic hot dog is made with a blend of lamb, pork, and beef, and served on a steamed bun with toppings including ketchup, raw white onions, crispy fried onions, sweet brown mustard, and a creamy remoulade sauce. The wait isn't long though as each hot dog is assembled in about 3 seconds. The small footprint is efficient with little movement needed between order/pay, hotdog, and beverage. There are tables that can hold your hotdog but watch out for hungry birds as they will take it if you aren't careful! Highly recommend regardless of weather as long as it is open!
Dylan S — Google review
No harm to try, it tastes good but don’t expect any special, 880isk/hotdog. The only difference from other hotdog is the crispy onion in it. (Yet I tried hotdog in other restaurant in Ireland also taste similar with that crispy onion) Cos of the cold weather, I bought a hot chocolate milk too, and as a result it was a carton box of chocolate milk in 390sk 😂 not in my expectation. BTW, no line when I bought around noon time on weekday in November 2025.
Suki L — Google review
People saying that they are get sick after eating it. So i was eating from here straight for a 5 days and I didn’t feel anything bad, just tasty hotdog. I can tell you that the sausage by itself is overall good but the thing makes it perfect is the fresh cut onions with it’s tasty sauce! A perfect combo for hotdog.
Berly H — Google review
I was told that Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur translates to the Best Hot Dogs in Town/City and it's on point! These are infact to my knowledge, the best of the best hot dog's I've EVER had! Note: you can buy all the ingredients, hot dogs and buns from a local supermarket and make them yourself and that's a great pro-tip for camping, camper vans, etc. But, boy there is nothing better than having it served to you from Baejarins with a delicious, ice cold Egils Appelsín to scarf all down or eat it while walking the streets of Reykjavik taking in the sites and shopping! Enjoy!

Icelandic restaurant
Dill Restaurant in Reykjavik is a trailblazer as the first Icelandic restaurant to receive a Michelin star. The establishment, led by chef Gunnar Karl Gislason and sommelier Olafur Orn Olafsson, offers New Nordic Cuisine that reimagines classic dishes with innovative twists. The menu features items like arctic char, pork belly, and lamb shanks paired with wholesome ingredients such as barley, berries, and kale.
Dill exceeded all expectations with an incredible dining experience from start to finish. Every single dish was amazing—beautifully presented and packed with rich, balanced flavors. Service was warm and attentive, making the evening even more enjoyable. A special thanks to the sommelier for the perfect wine pairings, which elevated the meal to another level. If you’re in Reykjavik, Dill is an absolute must-visit. A truly memorable experience!
M G — Google review
Dill is genuinely one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had - and I don’t say that lightly. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you’re greeted with delicious food and impeccable attention to detail. Everything about the space creates a calm, inspiring atmosphere - true to the menu’s concept. Every single dish was a delight, and it still felt completely unpretentious and relatable. All the team members are super attentive and you can tell they enjoy being there - so important! The wine list is insanely good with many gems made in harmony with nature. I cannot wait to go back and highly recommend the experience!! Thank you very much to the Dill team for a memorable night!

Dill gave us an awesome introduction to the Icelandic cuisine. The dinner consisted of 16 courses and each one was a perfect segue to the next dish. We had a lot of fun chatting with the various staff who would stop by and explain what we were eating, the significance of certain dishes to the Icelandic cuisine. We spent around $315 USD per person and didn’t get the alcohol pairing. If I had to pick a favourite dish, it would be the Onion Cake with juniper and carrots as well as the Cod Gellur which translates to fish throat. Couldn’t tell it was fish, very memorable. Highly recommend for your trip to Iceland. The attention to detail from the staff was A++.

This place was absolutely amazing. The vibe and chefs counter was incredible. The food was also fantastic. The staff was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable and was cool to chat with. I will definitely return next time I’m in town. The price was also worth it. Definitely the most memorable meal of my trip!
Jeremy B — Google review
Incredible experience! The ambience is soft and relaxing, the service was excellent and the different courses were so delicious. We sat at the counter and watching the chefs, interacting with them, discussing the dishes is something I'd absolutely recommend. They even gave us an extra apple tart when they heard how much we loved it. Overall the food was very delicious, varied, well thought out and perfectly cooked (or perfectly raw). I think maybe some of the flavors were a little subtle for me but that may be that I'm inexperienced in Icelandic cuisine. It was a wonderful introduction. Would absolutely recommend.
Ali — Google review
The unique setting created by chef Gunnar Karl Gíslasson and team. The Icelandic Michelin experience with focus on local produce and flavours. Do not miss it, should you want on of the best selection of Icelandic bites in Reykjavík. Attentive staff dedicated to tell the stories and the ideas behind the dishes and the creative processes.
Peter S — Google review
We had an amazing dining experience at Dill. The quality, taste, and artistic presentation of the food were impeccable throughout our entire meal. What really stands out is the unique three-stage dining journey: initial welcome bites upon entry, then a relaxing stop in the lounge, culminating in the main dining room. This flow made the evening feel incredibly special. Extra nice to have a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and being able to chat to the chefs about the dishes. The wine list is extraordinary and you couldn't be in better hands than with Ben. The entire staff was incredible, big thanks for a special evening and we can't wait to return next time we're in Reykjavik!
Jean-Philippe P — Google review
Had the tasting menu at Dill and it was honestly next-level. Every dish told a story - wild, local ingredients like smoked lamb, arctic char, dried fish, and goose with blueberries, even in dessert (yes, dill and liquorice). The vibe is relaxed but still sharp. You can tell the team knows their stuff, but they're not trying to impress you with fluff. The wine pairing were great. It's the kind of place that just makes you slow down and enjoy the ride. If you're into food that feels connected to a place - go.

Grillmarkaðurinn, also known as the Grill Market, is a renowned culinary destination in Iceland that prides itself on using fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and suppliers. The restaurant's interior seamlessly blends contemporary style with natural elements like moss and basalt, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Founded by acclaimed chefs Hrefna Ros Saetran and Gudhlaugur P.
We had such a great dining experience here! The food was great, we ordered a tasting menu and every course was delicious. Our server Vicky was super attentive and lovely. Loved this! Plus it was my mother’s birthday and we got a great plate for the birthday with some deserts.
Oleksandra P — Google review
An unforgettable dinner at Grillmarkaðurinn! We went for the 8-course tasting menu and every dish was a masterpiece – beautifully presented, bursting with flavour, and Michelin-quality. For my husband’s birthday, we got complimentary champagne and a dessert with a light fountain – such a lovely touch! Special thanks to our amazing waitress, Raquel, who went above and beyond and made the evening even more special. A true credit to the restaurant. Yes, it’s pricey, but this is Iceland – and the quality, creativity, and service make it worth every krona.
Wiola A — Google review
This is rated as the best restaurant in Reykjavík and no doubt it’s the most upscale restaurant in town. I had vegan steak which was unbelievably good. The service was amazing. She made us feel like home. I came here to celebrate my birthday. She surprised me with champagne and sweets. Just wonderful. Also the ambience is so romantic. This is a place where you definitely want to try at least one time especially if you come here for any celebration or… maybe… proposal. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again.

The best meal I've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful with highly attentive staff who explain the best way to eat your chosen dishes and what best accompanies them. The food was absolutely exquisite and the portions were much bigger than I thought they'd be. Can honestly say this is the best food I've ever eaten.
Romy — Google review
Upscale restaurant with beautiful decoration. Excellent menu with plenty of unique selection. Food overall was good. Expect to paid a higher price from this premium location.
Kenny M — Google review
On our final day in Iceland, we went to this place. We were fortunate to get a table for two, but I’d suggest making a reservation. We tried the 6-course tasting menu, which was a fantastic way to sample a variety of Icelandic dishes. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and the restaurant’s interior was truly a masterpiece—it had such an aesthetic vibe.
Bazz P — Google review
23-10-25 Amazing restaurant, the manager Paul was very professional. Gave us drinks on the house, due to the wait for our table. They were fantastic. Love the food here! I had the salmon. A bit pricey for the little condiments. I attended the location again the 24, and the portion sizes of the salmon, presentation, drinks were diffident from the day previous day. Staff also didn't know what was available as for bread, and Tabasco... he had to ask a fellow waitress. When we received the bread it was dry and the waiter said that was all available, but miraculously they "found" more. I all, I would return to this location.
Aalure C — Google review
Visited on our honeymoon and had one of the best meals of our life. Goran made sure we were absolutely taken care of and we will never forget it. Compliments to the chef, the whale, lamb and reindeer were all five stars. Would gladly recommend to friends and family and would be honored to come back!

Restaurant
Café Loki is a charming Icelandic restaurant located in downtown Reykjavik, just opposite the famous Hallgrimskirkja church. It offers traditional Icelandic fare such as fish soup, meat stew, and freshly baked rye bread. The café provides a cozy and relaxed atmosphere with a wonderful view of the cathedral. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views during sunset while trying the traditional Icelandic rye bread ice-cream known as Rugbraudh ice-cream.
At Café Loki in Reykjavík, I had the best dessert of my life rye bread ice cream with skyr cake. The rye bread ice cream has a rich, caramel flavor from toasted rye bread, topped with whipped cream and rhubarb syrup, making it a unique Icelandic treat. The skyr cake, light and tangy, complemented it perfectly. The café is located across from Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík’s iconic church. Designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, construction began in 1945 and was completed in 1986. The church’s striking architecture, inspired by Iceland’s natural landscapes, makes it a must-see landmark.

Thank you for letting us very late on Sunday evening and served us food even the kitchen was about to close. All of the food was amazing, staff was super friendly, talked us through all the menu. For me Staff always define the venue, all the dishes we try was delicious plus the views outside, perfect combination. Highly recommend!
Igor R — Google review
Amazingly well placed cafe with great coffee, super nice staff and awesome Icelandic breakfast, lunch and dinner options. I really could not fault it as it exceeded our expectations. And right in front of the beautiful Hallgrimskirkja. Full marks.
Walter W — Google review
We had the priest coffee which was strong! I personally have never tried Brennivín and kind of regretted it since it was early in the day. We also tried the lamb soup and the Viking platter! The lamb soup was hearty and homemade vibes. The Viking platter honestly tastes just like it looks! Nothing amazing, just dried fish, rye bread, and the well-known fermented shark. The ammonia really hits you hard and an added double whammy with the Brennivín shot. Probably wouldn’t recommend this if you have stomach sensitivities! Haha, but a good experience nonetheless. My absolute favorite was the rye bread ice cream! I would totally recommend. I think hands-down best thing I tasted in Iceland.
Dasom — Google review
For context, we only ordered the fermented shark and rye bread ice cream. The fermented shark is actually quite good! You have to chew it for a bit and there’s an ammonia flavor at the end, but it is actually a quite mild flavor. The rye bread ice cream is very tasty. There’s a lot of rye bread mixed in (maybe 1:1 ice cream to bread ratio lol). There’s a caramel sauce over whipped cream on top. All in all, a tasty snack! Note that the portions are small!! There’s just four tiny pieces of shark (IMO that’s enough for 4 people!) and the ice cream is one small scoops worth. Total for the two was just under 3000 ISK.
Jeannie — Google review
It was my first time eating traditional Icelandic food so I was really excited. The lamb soup was huge, and comforting. The meat was tender and the soup felt like home cooking (in a good way) I read Independent People earlier this year so it really did make me feel like an Icelandic Farmer in the winter. The malt tasted like a cross between Supermalt and Dr Pepper which I enjoyed but the standout by far for me was the Rye bread. It was my first time trying it but it was amazing. Have been thinking about it ever since. The staff were super friendly too and you can see Hallsgrimska from the entrance.
XAR — Google review
Great food. We say upstairs (reccomended) for the view of the church and cool mural with loki history. Great food and dessert and wonderful service. I had lamb and cod and carrots cake was just divine. Great traditional food in great location. Truly a unique little spot worth the price will go again
Brent Z — Google review
A nice small restaurant. This was the only place where we ate out during our stay in Iceland and we were happy with it. The lamb soup is really good and I recommend it. If possible, sit further away from the front door, otherwise you will have to endure cold air whenever someone is coming or leaving.

Fiskmarkaðurinn, also known as Fish Market, is a top restaurant in Reykjavik that offers a stylish two-floor interior adorned with red Asian-style lanterns and wooden floors. The menu features Japanese-inspired dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, including sashimi, maki, lobster soup, rock shrimp tempura, and robata-grilled minke whale. The restaurant also offers delectable desserts and vegetarian options.
Phenomenal food and service. Amazing fresh seafood. We ordered the “Premium Tasting Menu” set. It was a lovely 7-course meal served one dish at a time. This was definitely a must-visit restaurant in Reykjavik. It’s Michelin worthy! Our server, Angela, was very friendly, attentive and checked on us often to be sure we enjoyed every dish and time there. All the other staff who served us were knowledgeable and friendly too! Thank you! Reservations are highly recommended.

Fish market is a great place to have a very good meal. I've been here few times over the past years. Always good. I think with a 5 or 7 course meal the portions could be little smaller. But thats just details. Recommended for a dinner anyway. Will go again.
Mark H — Google review
The food here is wonderful. The scallop appetizer (served in the shell, with smoked cod roe and champagne vinaigrette) was the best scallops I've ever had. Arctic char tartare was delicious (especially the (ash-blackened?) rice cracker!). Cod was perfectly cooked and the whipped mashed potatoes, celery/cherry salad, and cherry demi-glace made ideal accompaniments. (The cod serving was enormous and could easily have served two people.) Excellent "Marburg" gin & tonic (with cardamom and some other yumminess I don't remember), and a very nice Spanish rose, rounded out the meal. The tasting menu looks fantastic (both of my neighbors had ordered it) but they can't serve it to single diners, more's the pity! All very expensive, but more or less on par for a fine restaurant in Reykjavik.

Before leaving for Iceland, I googled food in Iceland and I was terrified about it. Let me tell you, the experience i am having is far from reality. This is absolutely delicious, everything from appetizers to the lava cake, the passion fruit, the sashimi. Everything is of a fresh never experienced before, all the flavors are on steroids here, there is no other way to explain it. We did the premium food experience, absolutely fantastic.

Magdalena was simply wonderful! We did the testing menu and she did an excellent job explaining all of the food and answering our questions! The food was delicious and the scallop with champagne/pickles/wasabi is a can’t miss dish!

We just walked in and we were lucky to have table available. The food was great, tarter and cod were very tasteful. Snorri served us very well! He is the best waiter we’ve met so far here in Reykjavik. Very good place to have dinner, decent and tasteful!
Lin W — Google review
We ordered their premium tasting menu for three people. Most of the food was great. The yellow tail tartar was the best out of all that we ate. Beef tataki was super savory. Plenty of dessert at the end. The miso black cod was a bit of a let down. Could not taste the freshness of the fish, the sweet flavor was too overpowering. The coconut rice and the rice on the nigiri and the rolls were not cooked properly as well, they were a bit hard. The sharing concept was a good idea but the portions for three people were too little to share especially on the mains. For the price, the total food quality and portion was a bit disappointing. My expectations were high for this place and they came up a bit short. On the plus side, the staff were attentive and service was great.

Bakery
Brauð & Co, located in Reykjavik, is a bakery known for its exceptional bread and pastries. The shop, housed in a small building adorned with colorful graffiti, offers a variety of freshly baked goods including stone-ground sourdough, blueberry and liquorice bread, rye bread, croissants, pretzels and buns. The cozy dining area can accommodate only a few people at a time.
Walked toward to visit Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík, Iceland. Saw this bakery shop on the way. Smells amazing and lots of locals inside. It was a good sight! I wasn't hesitant to pop in! The twist buns and croissants etc looked amazing and smells really nice! I don't like the cinnamon so they recommended the vanilla or toffee flavour. That was the best bun I've tasted. The flavour and the texture. It was soft and warm. Yum!! We went back there to buy 4 more. Must try! One bun cost £4.95

It’s a cute little spot that serves a variety of pastries. We tried the famous Icelandic cinnamon roll and a square shaped pastry (not sure about the name, hahaaa) both were very cinnamon-y and quite sweet. It’s a great place to sample local sweets, though the only downside is that there’s no seating area, so everything is to-go. Other than that, it’s a perfect little nook! :)
Max L — Google review
honestly the best pastry I’ve had in a long time! I tried the caramel & müsti - absolutely incredible! A bit pricey, but totally worth it. There are only two seats by the window (otherwise it’s mostly to-go), and we were lucky enough to grab one - super cozy spot and 100% recommend! 🥐☕

Simply amazing. I love a proper bakery and these guys are legit. So much to choose from. I grabbed a couple of traditional Icelandic treats and both were very good. One was a chilli cheese twist bread and the other a flaky vanilla and cinnamon pastry. So so good.

The first place we visited after arriving in Iceland on October 11 was this bakery, and we absolutely loved it. The staff were as friendly as before, and one of the male staff members was especially kind to us. We were in a hurry to catch a whale watching tour, but his warm attitude really brightened our day. Thank you for your kindness and for making our visit so pleasant! The bread here is amazing, and your friendliness made it even more memorable. 💛

We visited 2 different locations 1 week ago and I must say the hype is real! Best cinnamon roll I’ve had hands down. Also if you’re a cardamom lover the cardamom pastry was delicious as well! I wish I could have these pastries everyday! I was so excited I took a bite before I snapped the pic.
Ria S — Google review
The reviews are true, hands down the best cinnamon roll I have ever had! I wasn’t expecting it to be that good. Even coming in at 3:15pm, thinking they possibly would be a little old from the morning - wrong! YOU MUST GET THE CINNAMON ROLL!..,no matter the time of the day 🤣
Sabrina A — Google review
More than hype. Legit good. I wondered if I would like this place, as from photos it’s hard to tell if their famous cinnamon buns are moist or dry. I can attest they are very moist, especially when warm still fresh from the oven, full of butter, perfect balance of cinnamon and sugar including a bit of crispness in the outer rings from outer sugar crystallizing during the bake. Other pastries were also great. This place is legit good!

Skál is a renowned restaurant located in Hlemmur Matholl, a food hall situated in Reykjavik's Hlemmur neighborhood. Recently awarded a Michelin star, the restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring both large and small dishes designed for sharing. Notable items include gratinated goat cheese with fennel crackers, rhubarb jam, birch syrup, and Loveballs - caramelized whey cheese served in cardamom sugar sauce.
Very good food. Pretty expensive but we had the aged steak. Lot of flavor in the sauce they gave with it. The potatoes were a sort of salty vinegar flavor with a crunch, really good. The bread basket had a great garlic butter flavor. The cod cheek was good. Had a very crunchy texture and great sauce on top.

Fantastic! 2 course meal was great value. Today it was shrimp and cod. The lamb was fantastic and grilled rare and with some kind of wrap (seaweed? Not sure) - best lamb I ever had, it did taste like lamb. Highly recommend.
Jennifer Y — Google review
We had the tasting menu and honestly it was one of the worst we have had in Iceland. The first 3 dishes were nice and had promise (especially the scallop) but then it just went downhill. The hotdog I understand is maybe some sort of tourist gimmick but it was really not good. The fish had far too many bones still left in it, and there was no warning about them. It was also overcooked and rubbery. The lamb, which is king of Iceland, had a very horrible flavour, very gamey- more like mutton. I've lived here 9 years and my partner is native and we both thought it was the worst icelandic lamb we had ever had. The waiter forgot our cutlery at first and joked we could cut it with a spoon but it was actually nearly impossible to cut with the knife when it appeared. Very tough, stringy and chewy. The dessert had nice flavours but the green granita was too strong and herby and clashed everything. Waiters were very attentive and the atmosphere was nice overall - except at the end when we were basically rushed to pay and told the table was taken for the next booking. The high tables are also not great for dining and uncomfortable.

Skál! - you are absolutely spectacular! Hands down the best raw scallops I’ve tasted: dressed with red currant granita, horseradish cream and dill oil. Reykjavik’s food scene has always been fantastic and Skál! firmly holds to its top marks with their great food and service. Thanks, and no doubt we shall see you again.

What a great experience! I had the fish dish, it was one of the best I had ever: the sauce was perfect and combined brilliantly with nuts, apples and sun-choke slices. Delicious ! My friends had the lamb, this was really soft and had a thinnest coiled layer on the outside- they loved it.

Amazing place! We tried the 8 servings Skál experience, and everything was so good. Great ingredients combination, with the dessert that left us speechless. 😍🔥 We liked that we had pauses between servers so we had time to rest and to enjoy food even more. Nice vibe and music. Would highly recommend
Bysia — Google review
This place can’t quite decide what it wants to be: the beer selection is surprisingly limited for something that calls itself a gastropub (only a handful of draughts, nothing particularly exciting). It feels more like a wine-focused restaurant with high tables than a proper pub. That said, the sharing set menu is genuinely strong. Generous portions — easily enough for two (we left stuffed) Mostly creative, well-executed dishes Stand-outs: perfectly cooked lamb and excellent scallops Everything else ranged from good to very good Come for the food (the set menu is great value and tasty), but don’t come expecting a proper pub beer experience. If you like wine or cocktails or just want a relaxed sharing dinner, it works really well. Recommended with that small caveat.

ÓX is a highly exclusive and intimate dining experience located in Iceland. With only 17 seats available, securing a spot at this Michelin-starred restaurant is a coveted opportunity for discerning gourmands. Chef Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson offers an extraordinary culinary journey with intense flavors and exquisitely crafted dishes, making the high price worth paying.
Fantastic experience from beginning to end. The hidden speakeasy entrance was a fun touch. The decor was fantastic-quirky and eclectic. Wine pairing was top notch. Service was professional, yet friendly and warm. Not an easy feat for a Michelin restaurant. The menu explored the full breadth of Icelandic cuisine, from land to ocean. If you find yourself in Reykjavik, this is a MUST. You do not want to skip it!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Ox easily made it to my top 5, this restaurant is everything I am looking for in a fine dining experience - farm to table, best of the local produce, with amazing traditional cooking techniques (that geothermal cooked bread!) and delicious dishes. The vibe of the place is grandma's, but elevated, and it feels warm and welcoming. It's not cheap, and they make you choose a drink pairing menu, but their non-alcoholic menu is very unique and most drinks are made in-house. The menu is robust, even for a Michelin starred kitchen, with 20-22 dishes per meal. So overall it was well worth the price. Beautiful experience, don't miss when in Iceland!
May H — Google review
It was easily the best dinner I had in Iceland. You enter through an unmarked door behind another restaurant and start off in what looks like a cozy living room, totally unexpected, but instantly welcoming. Then you're led into this private kitchen space with just a handful of seats. It felt more like being invited to someone's home than going out to dinner. The tasting menu was incredible - everything made with super local ingredients, but prepared in ways that totally surprised me. Think hot-spring baked rye bread, lamb tartar, scallops with berries each dish felt thoughtful and grounded, without trying too hard. What really made it special was the interaction. The chefs were right there with us cooking, sharing stories, making the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. Wine pairings were on point, but honestly, it's the vibe that ties it all together: intimate, creative and completely memorable. Yes, it's not cheap, but 100% worth it if you're into food that feels both bold and deeply rooted in place.

Dining at OX in Iceland feels like stepping into someone’s home. The space is designed like a cozy kitchen and living room, almost as if you’re visiting the chef’s grandmother’s house. The 60s and 70s décor adds charm and makes the whole experience feel warm and personal. The food celebrates authentic Icelandic traditions, with dishes that are both comforting and creative. Every plate felt thoughtful and true to the country’s flavors. Did you know OX only seats a handful of guests at a time? That intimacy makes the evening feel more like a gathering among friends than a typical restaurant visit. OX is truly a special place for anyone wanting to experience Icelandic cuisine in a unique and personal way.

Ox was easily one of our best dining experiences, not just in Iceland, but anywhere. Every course had me literally shaking my head in amazement, and the wine pairings were SO well done too; some of the best wines I've had! The atmosphere was incredibly warm and welcoming, and the staff's rapport was pure entertainment. Their enthusiastic and lively descriptions of each course's ingredients, and preparations took the whole experience to another level. While it was pricey, we felt it was absolutely worth every cent, and definitely something we would want to do again if we return to Reykjavík. 100% recommend it!
Nicole M — Google review
Our 22-course ÓX experience exceeded expectations. From the moment you enter service is outstanding and the restaurant team are all friendly and engaging. The menu is creative and honors Icelandic cuisine, and such a fun way to be introduced to some of the ingredients that make Iceland so unique. I was unable to partake in the alcoholic pairings and was initially really bummed about that. The non-alcoholic pairings blew me away, and I wanted to ensure to note this as it was the most unique beverage pairing experience I've had. Very thoughtfully curated and I was so excited by the pairing that I did not miss the alcohol in the slightest. This experience was a favorite from our vacation and is one of a kind, you won't regret making the reservation.

Incredibly special, immersive experience in the theater of chef Þráinn Freyr Vigfússon’s family home. Hard to imagine that this ritual takes place nightly, as our experience felt so singular. A handful of us stayed past the 3.5 hour dinner to keep talking & have a couple nightcaps back in the lounge. Course highlights were rich starters, tomato leather, rutabaga gnocci, rye bread with butter, quail with feykir & vermouth, and Icelandic wasabi.
Erica R — Google review
I went to Óx while they were hosting a visiting team from Etoile restaurant in Sweden. This meal was the most intimate fine dining experience I’ve attended - all members of the staff (including the head chefs for each restaurant) were chatting with the attendees as if it was almost a dinner party with some of the best food I’ve ever had. Not one dish was less than excellent in my opinion and the barbecued lobster was one of my top three dishes I’ve ever eaten. There were some incredibly creative dishes like a creme brûlée fish dish that were (shockingly) quite delicious. And finally, the price was high but staggeringly reasonable for a 20 course menu with 10 pairings included. This restaurant is a MUST visit if you are a fine dining fan and are able to get reservations

Íslenski Barinn is a cozy and down-to-earth restaurant in Iceland that offers a unique dining experience with its impressive selection of seafood and meat dishes, including shark, reindeer, and whale. The low-lit atmosphere creates a welcoming environment for travelers to connect with each other while enjoying the delicious food. The interior is richly decorated with an old-timey vibe, making guests feel right at home.
Delicious meal. We went around dinner time with no reservation and only had to wait 15 mins. It was really fun to try the puffin. I was expecting it to taste like chicken or turkey but it tasted like a meat and was good. The lamb soup was also tasty (tender and flavorful). Fish and chips were interesting. I've never had curry seasoned batter but I liked it. Super cozy inside and the staff really friendly / nice. We are from the US and so of course went to leave a tip and our waiter was so sweet he explained to us it is not custom to tip in Iceland, he really wouldn’t let us 😂it was so different to not leave a tip but he was so kind to explain to us the culture there.

This place has delicious Icelandic foods in a warm, relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed trying the lamb, shank and reindeer burger. We also tried a small portion of whale just to say we did, it was not too bad, but wouldn’t be my first choice either. They do offer the fermented shark here, but we weren’t feeling quite brave enough to try that. We enjoyed the atmosphere in this place, it did not have the loud music you might expect at a place like this at home, rather the only music came from a real piano that some folks were playing.

Was ours first time trying island food, so we went directly for shark, whale and dry fish… We ordered Skonsa með langreyði and Hákarl (6 bitar) & harðfiskur með smjöri - you need to know that shark could smell very strong- and both dishes were really good!! Whale meat is soft and tasty and dry fish is salty and tasty too. Place is nice and is located a few blocks from the main church. Prices, like all Iceland, high… but really worth it

Small restaurant in the center of town with lots of atmosphere and a really good menu. Even if you don't feel adventurous and try the fermented shark or whale meat, you will find a bunch of great options. We had the fish pie (delicious!), a burger (fantastic!) and some of the dogs, which were also great. My personal favourite was the Popped cod skin. Staff was friendly and very quick. Great beer selection, too. Absolute recommendation!

We have decided to go for some traditional islandic food and this place didn’t disappoint. However, it didn’t give the very Wow factor either. My favorite is actually the platter. 4 different types of delicacies - the whale, the smoked salmon (my absolute favorite)… it came with some tuna salad and the different cheese to pair with. Lamb shank is good but not wow. The dried fish of the day dish is also good but just kind the same as fish fish you get everywhere else in Europe. The reindeer burger was good, I love the Smokey flavored of it. Beer was good!

Small restaurant in the heart of Reykjavik with a fantastic menu and great atmosphere. My wife and I tried dried fish skin, fermented shark, and Brennivin. Our waiter was super helpful explaining to us how to eat the fish skin by dipping it in butter, how many times to chew the shark to release the flavor, and sharing some stories of how his mother would make the same dishes for him growing up. We also tried the lobster dog, essentially lobster loaded into a hotdog bun! Everything was delicious, although I was a much bigger fan of the shark than Kellie! Next time we're in Iceland this is at the top of our list to try again!

For a famous bar, this place was pleasantly surprising. The servers were really nice, attentive and would explain details. I had the fermented shark, dried fish, puffin and the whale meat. I also had delicious popped cod skin (which was like a pork crackling). All of them were top class. I was really surprised by fermented shark, it was like fat with a chewy bit. The whale was like beef

Food well coocked, Meat soup and Fish soup really tasty and well prepared with good amount of fish/meat inside. Nestled in a charming area near the water, Matur og Drykkur is a highly recommended restaurant known for its casual yet eclectic design and delicious food. Housed in an old salt cod factory, the restaurant takes traditional Icelandic recipes and gives them a modern twist. The menu features dishes like Icelandic lamb with parsnip puree and blueberry sauce, as well as unique desserts such as chocolate Skyr with fermented orange sorbet.
We really enjoyed our dishes with flavors we’ve never tasted before! We tried several things for the first time including horse and sheep. I loved how often they included Angelic as we saw it all over the island during our trip. Certainly a splurge but we left satisfied and feeling it was worthwhile.

We expected more from a Michelin guide restaurant. Even though the food was really good, the portions are borderline rude and offensively small. We paid 300€ for just dinner, because we honestly thought the wine pairing was too expensive, and left the restaurant still hungry. Staff was nice, and dishes are definitely presented very pretty. For reference, everything we ate is in the pictures. The capelin roe (first picture) is the size of my pinky, and the following 3 pictures which are the first three courses are bite size as well, for reference.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Matur og Drykkur in Reykjavik. The 10-course tasting menu was simply outstanding – every dish was perfectly balanced, with components that came together to create an incredible flavor journey in every bite. The wine pairing was equally impressive, with every single glass hitting the mark. For the non-alcoholic option, the sparkling teas were a brilliant alternative and just as enjoyable. Most importantly, the service was exceptional. Every single member of the team made us feel truly welcome and taken care of, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere throughout the evening. The vibe was wonderful, and we left after about two and a half hours feeling fully satisfied, extremely happy, and with memories of a night we won’t forget anytime soon. A must-visit in Reykjavik – highly recommended!

What an amazing experience; tasting each menu was like reading a keen essay of every ingredients that Icelandic season has to offer. My husband and I almost had to miss this experience due to scheduling conflicts, but what a mistake that would have been. It was a perfect summary of the end of our trip to Iceland. I love to take notes and learning about the new flavors, and the staff was so accommodating and eager to teach me! Service/Staff: Hania was my absolute favorite and a gem to the restaurant's entire vibe. She taught me of so many new herbs (chervil, angelica, lovage, etc.), and let me try them along with delightful stories for each; she even told me that she often picks chervil on her way to work, which was very cool to me. I highly recommend her Chervil Gimlet! She was so considerate and made us her specialty drink that was off the menu to celebrate our anniversary- based on her first drink recipe "Pink Panther." I highly recommend asking her for it if you are fortunate to spot her during your visit. I've been to some of the finest restaurants around the world, but the service I got from Hania was the absolute pinnacle of restaurant hospitality :) She was so personable, funny, knowledgeable, and passionate! She was the one who told us that we would've made such a mistake had we cancelled our reservation, and she was absolutely right. One of our servers, Sam, was amazing and memorable as well. When I asked about the black lime, she kindly brought out a jar of lime that was dried slowly to give it a black color and rich flavors. I highly recommend asking the servers or staff on any foreign ingredients you see on the menu. They are so knowledgeable and passionate about what goes into the tasting menu. Hania told me that the staff often forage together to find the natural herbs and ingredients, so they are integral authors to the beautiful story and intent told in every bite. I would come back to Iceland for vacation or for a layover just to come back to this restaurant and to laugh and learn about new things with Hania and the rest of the staff while eating the best food I've had in Iceland. Food: Each season, the restaurant features a 10-course tasting menu. Autumn 2025 menu's appetizers featured (1) Ricotta, dulse (seaweed), and capelin roe; (2) cured halibut and angelica - this menu was amazing because it featured all the parts of the Angelica herb: seeds, pickled stems, leaves; (3) horse fillet, sea truffle, roast pumpkin seeds, and black currents; and (4) rutabaga and cheese. What was the most amazing about this selection of food was its wine pairing. It must have been so hard to curate a single glass of wine that marries all of the diverse flavors/textures together, and the selection was perfect. Entrees were filled with flavors that I hadn't tried before. The black lime with the cured egg yolk and scallops was one of my husband's favorites. The cod dish with carrots was divine; I didn't know that carrot had this diverse of texture and flavor, and the presentation of the carrot slices to mimic the fish scale was genius. Lovage/goat was a new discovery for me as well, but its pairing with the selected white wine was absolutely my favorite. Sheep/liver/pine jelly showed interesting combination with the clear pine jelly (also something I've never tried). If you visit, I absolutely recommend getting the wine pairing. They compliment and enhance the flavors so well, with some of the pairings being mind-blowing and unexpected.

I cannot think of enough or the right words to describe how good this meal was. The dishes the Chef is producing in this kitchen are 😋!! I am now obsessed with lovage. Her ability to take something that is new to me and turn it into a dish I will dream about, applause 👏 🙌. The servers were perfect. Attentive but leaving me to enjoy each course with no interruptions. Knowledgeable but also willing to ask the Chef when I had a question about my new obsession. This is a meal I will think about for a long time after my visit is over.

Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Iceland. With a special shout out to Sam, who's service was outstanding - they really made a great meal become outstanding with professional but also friendly service

I’m sorry, but this restaurant sucks on multiple levels. Food: The “10 courses” are actually 7. The portions are insultingly small. The flavors are unbalanced. Not a single dish stood out. It all falls flat. I left slightly hungry and very unsatisfied. Service: The timing between courses is inconsistent. Plates are served backhanded. Utensils aren’t placed, cleared, and replaced correctly. Tables aren’t wiped between courses. Water isn’t refilled. Servers don’t know the menu and really added nothing to the experience. Price: ~$200/person is outlandish for what you get (qualitatively and quantitatively). It’d be overpriced at half that, even in Iceland.

Messinn is a popular restaurant in Reykjavik known for its generous portions and family-style service. The cozy eatery specializes in pan-fried fish dishes served directly in skillets, offering a hearty and satisfying meal with delicious sides of potatoes and fresh salad.
Tried the Arctic Char pan-fish, the portion was generous and it tasted amazing. Highly recommend! The staff were friendly, and the setting was lovely. Reservations are usually needed. My husband, who isn’t a fan of fish, ordered a coffee and enjoyed it too.

Absolutely loved up to the hype. Everything we ordered was well executed and packed with flavor. We got the soup, their lobster appetizer and split their famous Artic Char skillet. The skillets are 100% big enough to split between two people and we left full and happy. It gets busy and we watched them have to turn tables away because they were fully booked for the night, so if you want to go make sure to make a reservation.

This was the absolute best fish dinner we’ve ever had— and we eat and cook fish a LOT! This was our first dinner in Iceland & it set the bar high from the amazing host/manager who was attentive and fun to talk to, to our kind and happy servers and the food was perfect. We had appetizers, fish dinners, beer, dessert and coffee and honestly I’d go back again. Also the atmosphere is cozy and not loud.

Messin was one of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. They have exquisite fish options and wonderful, friendly staff. I ate the Plokkfiskur and Arctic Char, and they really were something special. The Plokkfiskur was some of the best fish I’ve ever had. The texture was brilliantly flakey, with crispy skin. There was a creaminess to the fish due to a velvety cream cheese sauce. The lemon and tomatoes provided great balance. A behemoth of delicious flavours. The arctic char was charred, smokey, sweet and fresh. The honey and almonds were a great combination and elevated the core flavours of the dish. If you are in Iceland in general, you must try Messinn. They are truly onto something spectacular. You won’t regret it, otherwise you’ll be ‘messinn-out’.

Absolutely amazing! The fish and shrimps were incredibly fresh, with a tender and bouncy texture. Every dish had its own unique flavor, and all of them were delicious. The filet of cod was especially good. I believe anyone who enjoys Southeast Asian flavors will love it!

The restaurant is beautiful. It’s highly recommended from the food tour so we came back for a full dinner. We had attic char and salmon and it wasn’t that impressive. Too much olive oil and there was nothing to write home about. The female waitress ( short hair/tattoo) took our order then never came back to check on us. We had to ask another waiter for our bill. We didn’t feel very welcomed there. Overall, not sure why this place has such a hype. Maybe they are good at PR in Instagram and YouTube ?

Do not leave iceland without coming here. The seven course iceland inspired menu is superb. The food is gorgeous presented and the flavors well balanced and unexpected. Very creative . The staff was super attentive and nice . As a plus they close late to enjoy an Icelandic midnight sun dinner. The atmosphere is very nice . 10/10 .

The place was pretty dark inside making it hard to see and read the menu. A few other guests were using their phone's flashlight to read the menu. The food was decent but not the best I had while in Reykjavik. The service was decent.

Kol Restaurant is an upscale two-floor destination run by experienced chefs Saevar Larusson and Arnor Haukur Diego. The warm and stylish interior features Tom Dixon furnishings, an open kitchen, and a dapper bar, creating a relaxed ambiance for guests to enjoy. The menu changes daily but includes staples like the fruits de mer platter and sauteed filet of cod.
Wonderful dining experience at Kol. The cocktails had hilarious names and were delicious (albeit on the strong side). The reindeer fillet, beef, and salmon were all cooked perfectly, and the tacos were superbly seasoned. Service was attentive and friendly. Cozy atmosphere accentuated the overall experience.

Very nice experience with the nova offer. I visited for a special occasion. Got the three course set menu. Really enjoyed the saffron lobster soup and the tiramisu. Service is prompt and friendly. Portion sizes were great. I was not a huge fan of the fish dish we got this time but I'm sure it'll be better next time. Would visit again and recommend. Very nice wall paintings too.

We really enjoyed our experience here. The food was amazing - we had the Chef’s tasting menu (highly recommended)- the service was top notch and the atmosphere was lively and energetic. We loved Kol and highly recommend it.

Excellent dining experience. Very busy but staff was friendly and responsive. Seated so I had a great view of the prep line which I enjoyed. Ordered Reindeer per the recommendations of a fellow patron seated next to me. Glad I did. The reindeer was expertly prepared and delicious. The kitchen sent out a small brioche toast with cheese and tomatoes witch was amazing. Didn't save room for dessert although they did look delicious also.

The lamb fillet 🍖 was so tender and flavorful. The grilled grapes, carrots, and potato on the side was perfect as well. The service is amazing and the staff are very kind. The wait is long if you want a table so recommended to reserve beforehand.

Delicious and interesting dining experience. Kol serves food that’s both traditional and innovative, with spectacular flavour combinations like miso rainforest with kataifi, smoked arctic char with nut praline. All works perfectly together. Service is just as impeccable as the food.

Ended up having beef sticks at the hotel after a $330 dinner. Disappointing at best. Langostine soup was ok, more like creamy mini 3 shrimp soup. For the main dish, they didn’t ask the temperature of the reindeer so we assumed it was a well done dish. Turned out it was way too undercooked for me, told the waiter but she didn’t do anything about it. Also needed more seasoning, I wish there was some salt on the table. I ate around the sides and my husband had the middle part of. Small medallion meat. Dessert also sucked. There was no coffee flavor in the tiramisu. For the chocolate mousse, we couldn’t tell if there is any mousse in there. There was 1 scoop of cinnamon ice cream in a whip cream circle. Needless to say I was still hungry after this dinner. Not a great value for the money. Palette is not there.

Sümac Grill + Drinks is a downtown restaurant known for its great ambiance, celebrity sightings, and delicious Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-infused Icelandic cuisine. Chefs Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson and Tomas Johannssont create mouthwatering dishes like grilled lamb and pistachio baklava that have earned praise from Gordon Ramsay and the Michelin guide.
We had an amazing dining experience at Sumac! From start to finish, everything was outstanding. The atmosphere is warm and stylish, with a vibe that feels both relaxed and sophisticated. The food was absolutely delicious — we tried the mushrooms, cod, cauliflower, and lamb ribs, and every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Each bite felt thoughtfully prepared, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The lamb ribs, in particular, were incredibly tender and flavorful. To top it all off, the desserts were fantastic — rich, well-balanced, and the perfect end to an already memorable meal. Highly recommend Sumac for anyone visiting Reykjavík. It’s a must-try spot for food lovers looking for something special. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

The flavors were what we really liked. The flavors were nicely subtle. The cod was excellent . Maybe as good as I have had in Iceland. The lamb shanks and shrimp were also excellent. Service was v good. There are some errors in the billing, but nothing major. Atmosphere was ' happening ' so we really enjoyed the evening. The flat bread was also excellent. So overall, an evening of note. Would recommend.

Hands down, some of the best food we’ve ever had. We did the taste menu, seven courses: three starters, three entrees, and dessert. The bread and hummus were amazing right off the bat! Tender shrimp perfectly cooked, melt in the mouth ribeye, zucchini to die for. The dessert was a date syrup chocolate cake with sesame seeds and a rich coffee ice cream. I couldn’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking for a nice place to spend an evening. My only regret is that we live 5,000km away and I’ll be comparing every restaurant to this one for years to come. Well, at least until next time we’re here.

Four of us ate here the other night at the end of our Iceland trip, and it was fantastic! Also pricey, but incredible. We were all craving some different fare after eating fish and chips the whole week. Four of us, we got the 7 course chiefs meal, we ended up dropping about 500 for all of us (that’s 500 (US dollars) (NO drinks/alcohol). Their hummus was probably my favorite although the lamb was also top notch, but every course was solid. So if you are up for a splurge, I would definitely recommend Sumac. Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix pointed us here, glad it did. Reservations probably best, but we just lined up as soon as they opened and got in, thankfully.

Ordered the 7-course meal for my friend's birthday. We had flatbread with baba ganoush and hummus for starters. Also the halloumi and oyster mushrooms- which was incredibly tasty especially the sauce. Main dishes were the shrimps, chicken thighs, cauliflower and lastly an ice cream for dessert. Wasnt really a fan of cauliflower but the tahina sauce and almonds complemented it perfectly.
Melanie ( — Google review
The food was crazy good, honestly the best chicken kebab I have ever eaten. The bread with the hummus on the side as a starter was like a chefs kiss! Sitting at the bar having a view over the kitchen and be able to do some talking with the chefs, fantastic atmosphere. A new favourite restaurant in Reykjavík! A must if you are in Reykjavík!

Sumac just became one our favourite restaurants! Everything was packed with exciting flavours and cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and not at all pretentious. There was a real attention to detail in both the food and the interior design. Only minus is that the meals arrived even too quickly - we would have enjoyed to have a bit more time to sit, talk and enjoy.
Linnea F — Google review
Lovely meal. Most dishes were good, some were EXTRAORDINARY. Notably, the almond-pepper spread, the warm pita with za'atar, and the chicken wings (unexpected!) were phenomenal, 5-star bites! We also had octopus, cod, the halloumi, and the mushrooms, and all were good. I wish we'd had more of the main plates cause they looked fantastic going by. The servers and chefs at the bar were a delight and joy, and I highly recommend eating at the bar for the full immersive experience. They were also kind enough to give us 3 pieces of pita even though the order usually only comes with 2 since there were 3 of us. Very kind!

Le KocK is a modern eatery in Iceland run by three talented chefs, including Icelandic/American Chef Markus. The restaurant offers a diverse menu with dishes like smoked salmon on pretzel bagel sandwiches, smash burgers with truffle ketchup, and homemade doughnuts that evoke childhood memories. Many guests find it convenient to dine at Le KocK as it's attached to a hotel and offers daily breakfasts.
This place was awesome! Love the atmosphere and most importantly the food. We stopped in for dinner, based on Phil's recommendation. It is a unique dinning experience you place and pay for your order, then they bring you the food after you. We tried a couple of their burgers, Cheeseburger and Dirty Harry. These burgers were fantastic! They were so juicy and tasty. The buns were very unique. We also got a side of the Parmesan Garlic Potatoes - excellent! If you are in the area and looking for a great burger. This is the spot!

Yummy burger at this restaurant and actually everything we ordered. We had falafel too and it came with very delicious sauce under it gave it different taste. The burger was loaded with the flavors, especially the crispy onion. The potato were good too but I wish they gave me the option to not add the sauce they used. The atmosphere was fun but with a bit loud music from the bar. The staff are very friendly.

Absolutely amazing! The burgers were incredibly tasty - juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The potatoes were just as good, super crispy and served with delicious sauces. Everything was top-notch! The ordering system is really cool: you order at the counter, get a number, and the food is brought to your table - so you can take your time deciding and order whenever you’re ready. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the whole vibe of the place is fun and relaxed. Highly recommend if you’re craving a great burger experience in Reykjavík - definitely one of the best we’ve had in Iceland! 🍔🍟

Iceland October 2025 A Meal Fit for a Queen (and Her Amusing Plus-One) The Queen and I just popped into Le Kock in Reykjavík for a spot of supper, and let me tell you, it was an absolute royal treat. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was no ordinary establishment; the place was absolutely Kock-a-block with personality. The decor is a delightful assault on the senses. There’s so much to look at, from the quirky art to the witty stickers plastered everywhere. It’s clear they have no qualms about letting their Kock hang out for all to see. The staff were wonderfully friendly, helping us navigate the menu and find a seat before we could even muster a "God save the Queen." They really know how to handle a crowd without getting their Knickers in a twist. The ordering system is simple: you visit the counter, place your order, and are given a number. It’s a testament to their efficiency that one never feels like just a number… though I did have to remind Her Majesty that, for the evening, she was "Number 46." She took it rather well. Now, let's talk about the main event—the food. The menu is a thing of beauty, divided into sections that celebrate the potato, the burger, the chicken wing, and a dizzying array of shakes. It’s a veritable Kock-tail of culinary delights! We decided to share the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was a masterpiece of hot honey and other tasty accoutrements. It was so good, it left us in a state of pure, unadulterated Kock-a-doodle-bliss. Accompanying this majestic bird was a basket of fried potatoes with a creamy aïoli. They were perfectly crisp, perfectly seasoned, and frankly, a right proper bunch of Kocky little spuds. In the end, the combination of the brilliantly witty atmosphere, the incredibly friendly staff, and the downright delicious food makes Le Kock a true winner. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stand up and announce, "My Kock is fantastic!" But, as the Queen wisely pointed out, one must maintain a certain decorum in public. Five out of five crowns. We’ll definitely be back. After all, a girl can’t live on scones and jam forever. Long live Le Kock!

Visited this location as part of a food tour in October 2025. Doughnuts, bagels, interesting breads?! Count me in! We got to try two different breads (rye with falafel, sourdough with cheese and pickle), and a Cream Brûlée doughnut. All three were very pleasant! Well baked, nice amount of toppings. Shoutout to the cream brûlée doughnut for not being full of sugar (as delicious as it is). Great flavors there. Didn’t get to try their bagels, but would definitely visit this location again in the future when around.

The food is odd. We got wings & the tomato soup. The pork in the grilled cheese is bright red, almost concerningly red. The buffalo wings are also super red. It’s super strange. The tomato soup was also sweet. I’m not sure if they’re going for American food and taking it a bit too far, but it’s quite odd. Maybe their burgers are better, but what we ordered wasn’t great. The service was fantastic though!

Landed in Reykjavík at 6pm, straight to Le Kock for our first meal. Hands down the best burger we’ve had in a long time. Cool atmosphere, live band was amazing, staff were lovely and the food was delish. The combo for burger, potatoes and drink was a great offer. They also have gluten free buns. We’re staying in Reykjavik for end caps of our visit, and saw this place had great reviews and were very intrigued by the menu. What an amazing meal! Our waiter, Ayrton, was a real gem. The food was 10/10. We split the burrata, the baked cheese Wellington, and the teriyaki artic char. All were literally amazing with wonderful flavors, the flavoring highlighted the meal and everything was so well done. We also enjoyed the music playing and the general ambiance. Would 100% dine in again, highly recommend.

Had I not been in Iceland I would have thought I was going to be in an episode of Bar Rescue. Service was horrible. We had to flag down a server for every request from placing our order to water to the check. We had a reservation and it was not busy. I’m not sure how this restaurant rates so well. The food was average, presentation was nicely done.

Forrettabarinn Restaurant & Bar, also known as the Starters Bar, is a charming spot near Reykjavik's old harbor that offers a delightful selection of tapas-style dishes inspired by local ingredients and Icelandic recipes. The restaurant boasts a stylish exterior adorned with a wave-like mural, reflecting its coastal location. Inside, the ambiance seamlessly blends rustic wood with contemporary elements such as minimalist white walls and elegant lighting.
This was probably our favourite meal in iceland and was (for iceland) very sharply priced. By Australian standards this would be fine. The bread with olive teppanade is so delicious you may want another. The seafood soup was bursting with flavour and had some nice seafood bites to it. The salmon entree had a lot of good textures i hadn't had with salmon before, and I loved how it wasnt overly salty or fishy. The edamame quaesidilla were bit what i expected, but in a good way. I love how it was so playful and had so much more crunchy then a regular quaesidilla.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Forréttabarinn. Every small plate was a hit, but the standout for us was the horse, unbelievably tender, perfectly cooked, and elevated even further by a rich red wine reduction that was out of this world. The risotto and fish dishes were also exceptional, each with incredible flavor and beautiful presentation. And the desserts? The perfect sweet finish to an already perfect meal. Cozy atmosphere, great service, and a creative menu that delivers on every bite. Highly recommend!

During our recent visit to Reykjavik, we stumbled upon this delightful restaurant that truly exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, and made the entire experience feel personal and relaxed. The ambiance is rustic and cozy, with wooden beams, soft lighting, and a charming decor. The menu offers a well-curated selection of dishes, with something to please every palate. From fresh fish to hearty lamb and vegetarian options, everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The drink list was equally impressive, featuring local craft beers, wines, and creative cocktails. Considering Reykjavik’s reputation for high prices, the value here was surprisingly good. Quality was top-notch, and the overall experience felt worth every krona. If you're looking for a place that combines authentic atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food at a fair price, I can highly recomment this restaurant.

My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant as our nice dinner out on our trip, and we couldn’t be more happy with our decision. I loved the atmosphere of the establishment, the service was nice and kind. In terms of courses you have the option to do their courses they prepared for you or pick your own small plates, we did the latter. We enjoyed every single dish and drink we got. Would suggest this restaurant to anyone.

We both got the 4 courses meal. I had the meat rib one and my friend had the fish one. We spent less than 2 hours here, service was quick. Every dish was delicious. Staff was very kind and it is priced very reasonably for iceland!

The food was good, though portions seemed a bit small. The horse meat was interesting - a bit beefy but less tender. The barley risotto was good - also seems to be the only grain they grow locally. The market fish - a white fish was delicious. The scallops were small and not quite tender. (Perhaps this was intended to be an appetizer?) So wouldn’t order this again. As many people have said, the bread with olive tapenade is amazing, a great way to start off the meal.

Svarta Kaffið offers a unique dining experience inside a lava cave in Reykjavik, serving mouthwatering soups in edible bread bowls made from fresh local ingredients. This hidden gem is perfect for budget travelers and soup enthusiasts, with a great selection of local beers to complement the savory soups. Despite its narrow staircase entrance and occasional service hiccups, this cozy spot provides a warm and quick meal at reasonable prices.
We were told about this place by a friend and made a point of stopping when in town. We were greeted as soon as we entered the door by exceptionally friendly staff who explained the vegetarian and meat-based daily soup offerings served in home made soup bowls. We ordered one of each as a combo with beer and were delighted by both the hearty soups and crunchy-crusted bread bowls. An exceptional experience for all!

A must visit if you’re in Reykjavik! The bread soup bowls were delicious and so authentic and fresh. You cannot go wrong with the simplicity of this place - they simply ask you if you want meat or vegetarian. We went vegetarian and we were lucky to have an amazing cauliflower soup - I believe the options change everyday which makes it an exciting surprise. The place was also super cosy and the service was very quick. I recommend having one bowl per person for a filling, hearty dinner although I did see some people sharing. I cannot wait to go back one day!

Svarta Kaffið is a popular soup restaurant located on Laugavegur Street in downtown Reykjavík. Its specialty is the “bread bowl soup,” where hot soup is served inside a hollowed-out round loaf of bread. We ordered the beef and lamb soup and the vegetable soup separately (each priced at 3,100 ISK). Since soup is the only item on the menu, it took about ten seconds for our order to arrive — the fastest serving time I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant in my life. The soup was rich and flavorful, and breaking pieces of the bread to eat with it made for a unique experience. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere; when we visited around 7 p.m., it was almost full, but the turnover seemed quick, so even if you have to wait, you’ll likely get a table soon.

We had the golden combo soup served in bread, paired with their local beer. Absolutely delicious! 🍺🥣 The best part — The soup was refillable once
V V — Google review
It is said to have the best soup in Iceland, but I noticed that many restaurants here also claim to be the best in something. I have not tried other soup places, but this one did not feel particularly outstanding. The soup was good, but not something I would come back for. One nice thing is that you can get a refill, so you will definitely leave full. The price is also reasonable by Icelandic standards. Overall, nothing special, but still better than eating supermarket food.
D C — Google review
We came here for our first dinner in Reykjavik, and I liked it so much we came back a second time. They are supposed to have different soups every day with one vegetarian and one meat each day. They appear to usually be cream based. The bread bowl isn't unique to this place, but it's their specialty and they make sure you know what you're there for when you come in. This isn't really a restaurant with a menu, you come for the soup... And the bowl. We got the Golden Combo both times, I stuck with the vegtarian both times, and my husband got the meat. I tried his and both times they were good. A little similar in taste, but I was still happy to have gone with vegetarian. The Gull beer was good and went well with the soup. They don't advertise this (as far as I know) but you can get a refill on your soupl, just bring your board and bowl to the counter and ask. The trick is to not dig in too much to the bottom and sides your bowl on the first go. By the time you get a second helping of soup and it's time to eat the bowl... You're full. Another tip for eating the bowl, don't scrape everything out of it just the liquid, then squish the sides flat (push them flat towards the center) and eat like a sandwich. That way the bread you eat has some flavour and you're not just eating crust. I loved the hearty meal and it feels like a home cooked dinner. It's especially perfect after a long day of cold hikes and glacier climbing. Other restaurants have a bread bowl soup, but I'd wager that Svarta does it best.

Delicious soup. Really quick service and can refill. 40 pounds for two, might have to wait outside if it’s busy inside. 1 veggie option and 1 meat option. Not many tables for 4, so would have to wait longer if your a bigger group potentially. But overall a great experience, would recommend!

Sandholt is a historic family-run bakery in Reykjavik, known for its wide variety of freshly baked goods, including sourdough bread, pastries, and cakes. The cozy eatery offers breakfast staples, sandwiches, and pastries alongside coffee and organic wines. The French-style pastries and bread are highly praised for their close resemblance to the original concept. Visitors can enjoy items from the breakfast menu such as shakshuka and pancakes topped with Icelandic strawberries.
The best bakery and lunch spot in Reykjavik! We have been here several days and noticed the line always out the door here and there’s a good reason! The line moves fast, waited about 10 minutes. Food, atmosphere, and service were 10/10. We had the pasta of the day, chicken salad, and tried several desserts. Everything was fresh and delicious. We will be back before we return home!

We came twice and had very different experiences. The first time, we came early and were sat at a table without much issues. Our server may have been new but was not familiar with the pastries and asked us to point at them on our phone (pictures). Otherwise it was a pleasant breakfast and the pastries (poppyseed bun, cinnamon danish, pan au chocolat, croissant, and a honey bun) were very good. Coffee and tea were well made. 5/5 experience. On our second trip the server was more knowledgeable but seemed to not care at all. She rushed us to order and offered no pleasantries (which would have been fine if not for the other issues). We ordered a poppyseed bun, pistachio danish, doughnut, waffle with bacon, lemon poppyseed bread and a salted pretzel. When the food came, we learned that she hadn’t heard us correctly when we ordered the pretzel and punched in an extra waffle instead. We pointed this out and the server acted like we had changed our order, giving us an attitude. Most of the laminated dough pastries were delicious, however the lemon poppyseed bread was dry and mealy. We finally got the pretzel after the other food had been finished (no rush at all for a cold pretzel they grabbed from the display) and they had brought one with no salt. At this point we just ate it and then paid (where we learned she had punched in 3 waffles from the cashier). Overall: Ambiance 4/5 Service 1/5 Laminated Pastries 5/5 Waffle 5/5 Soft Breads 4/5 Cake Breads 1/5 Pretzel 3/5 Coffee/Teas 4/5

This is one of the most popular bakeries in Reykjavik, and for good reason! We loved their pastries and couldn’t help but go back for a second time right before we had to fly back home. Get there early if you can! The crowd seems to pick up after 9:00A. In addition to serving up a variety of baked goods and chocolates, Sandholt is also a restaurant that serves actual breakfast and lunch dishes. When we went in at 9:30A one day, the entryway was packed with people waiting in line for pastries and others waiting for a table to dine in. + POPPY SEED BUN: This twisted golden bun was soft and bready, sprinkled evenly with poppy seeds and drizzled with a light sugary glaze. The bun itself didn’t have a strong flavor, but it goes well with a cup of coffee and was a great way to start the day. + PISTACHIO DANISH: This flaky pastry had a slight crispiness and was swirled with crushed pistachios. The layers were buttery and thin and I liked how this wasn’t too sweet. + BROWN SUGAR BUN: A must! Similar to a cinnamon roll, this bun was delightfully soft with a brown sugar cinnamon spread inside. Small pipings of frosting came on top, finished with crunchy chocolate pearls. Some of the brown sugar was caramelized on the bottom of the bun, giving it a little extra chew. It was such an indulgent treat. Pricing is not too bad considering the great quality of each pastry. If you only visit one bakery in Reykjavik, make sure it’s Sandholt!

My boyfriend and I went here twice on our trip to Iceland! Both times the food and drinks were amazing! Super cozy restaurant with fresh made everything! The first time we went we got the Swiss mocha, orange juice, shashuka with pork and the salmon avocado toast! We also got a brown sugar bun that was a little too sweet for both of us but still really good. The second time we came here we got two Swiss mochas, the shashuka with bacon, the salmon avocado toast, the skyr with fruit and lemon curd, and we also got a chocolate cinnamon bun and a slice of marble cake to go. Everything was super delicious! My boyfriend ended up liking the shashuka with pork better but still said both options are great! We went on Saturdays both times around 12pm/1pm and the wait was only about 10mins or so just depends on your group size but they’re very efficient and friendly!

Sandholt is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy Reykjavík life for a while. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. There’s a big variety of pastries, sandwiches, and hot dishes - everything looked delicious. We tried some pastries and coffee, and it was honestly one of the best bakery experiences we’ve had in Iceland. Prices are very fair for the quality you get. The location is great, right in the heart of the city, and it’s also a lovely place to sit down for lunch or brunch. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place with great food, warm vibes, and a true Icelandic touch. 💛☕

So many desserts and pastries! This place was great. The vibe was amazing and great place to catch up with friends. Had the pasta of the day which was a creamy mushroom pasta. The sourdough bread was so good and served with a whipped butter. In addition the apple danish was beautifully presented and tasted even better.

I absolutely loved their coffee and breakfast! I was so impressed that I had to bring home their sourdough pumpkin seed bread, and I’m totally head over heels for it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy spot with amazing baked goods! ☕✨

A very nice cafe with reasonable prices. Unfortunately we didn't try the pastries but the coffee was nice. The atmosphere inside was fantastic however, as it felt energetic yet homely.

Nestled in the charming old harbor of Reykjavik, Kopar is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. With its cozy decor and stunning views of the docks, this restaurant invites you to indulge in a delightful seafood journey crafted by Chef Kobe, the youngest Belgian chef to earn a Michelin Star. The menu features an exquisite five-course meal that includes innovative dishes like lobster in miso cream and wasabi, alongside unique offerings such as balsamic horsemeat and blueberry cured beef tenderloin.
This was the perfect dinner to end our vacation! The menu is absolutely excellent! Lots of fresh fish and seafood. Highly recommend getting the catch of the day. We had a really great experience here, it was quiet and calm. Service was great and overall great vibes.

I visited for lunch, getting the fish of the day. It was superb, some of the best fish I've ever eaten. Well balanced and tasty. The bread and butter were great too. Lovely beer and lovely views. Nice tucked away in the harbour, a little more peaceful than in the town.

We loved it! Every single person in the staff was lovely, and the food was delicious! We had a smoked arctic char to start, then the salted cod and mushroom wellington. Both were delicious but we preferred the cod. The flavours were very gentle and went well together. For dessert we ordered the dessert delight, which included 3 different desserts (the orange brownie with an orange-carrot sorbet, the skyr mousse with a raspberry sorbet, and the lemon pie with a sour cream ice cream). Delicious!

We ordered their three course lunch menu. The food was great. The catch of the day tasted fresh. The rock crab soup was appetizing. Although, what stood out the most was the quality of service by one of their employees. Oliwia was phenomenal from beginning to end. She was very patient with our questions and very attentive and accommodating to our needs all throughout. Best service we had out of all the places we visited in Iceland. Thank you for having us!

I’ll start this off by saying I came in because of their menu and then actually walked out because they were doing a special popup Icelandic X Japanese cuisine set menu. After thinking about it for a moment I went back and I’m so glad I did. There’s a lot I could to say about this experience, especially personally because I have a special place in my heart for Japan and why Japan was the reason I was in Iceland at all. But this is about the food so let’s go… I opted for the full course set and one of the pairing Yuzu Beers - they had a full pairing selection available also. The course comes two at a time for around 9 or so total dishes. It’s plenty of food and each one is so very unique truly. It’s Japanese style Icelandic and it’s so hard to describe other than it was delicious. The chef - Baldur Freyr Hilmarsson - and I actually got to speak a bit and he told me he was worried some of the dishes wouldn’t be received well, but they were my favorites (the lamb skewers with wild blueberries and garlic and the creamy salmon dashi soup with salmon roe and wasabi oil). Honestly though everything was fantastic, and nothing was served that felt too out of place next to each other in terms of pairings. I’m very pleased with being able to have caught this popup and I’m looking forward to trying Kopar again in the future when I’m back in Iceland. Everyone on the staff was so nice - one even said ah you’ve decided to give us a try! - after I left and came back haha. Seriously though such nice folks and great service. The atmosphere was beautiful and overlooks the docks as well. Thank you so much Kopar for a fantastic final meal in Iceland!

Snaps Bistro is a charming French-style restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful conservatory. The bistro offers a mix of French cuisine, cocktails, and even vegan options. Its breezy interior features wooden floors, a stylish square bar, and large windows that create an inviting ambiance for all kinds of patrons - from hipsters to families to business people.
Snaps Bistro is simply exceptional! We had the Beef Bourguignon, and it was absolutely divine—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The lobster soup was equally phenomenal, rich, and comforting. To top it off, their cocktails were nothing short of legendary. The atmosphere was cozy and vibrant, making it a truly unforgettable experience. If you're in Reykjavik, this place is a must-visit!

I ordered the cod and absolutely recommend it! We also had a non-alcoholic passionfruit cocktail and an amazing alcohol-free sparkling Cava truly top-notch 👌 , one of the best we’ve had! Adam was so nice and brought such great energy to our experience. Would definitely come again! 💃🏻

Our entire experience at Snaps was amazing, we went for tea on our first night in Reykjavik the food was outstanding, one of the best meals I have ever had. We were staying at Hotel Odinsve next door to Snaps and had breakfast here which was also incredible, had everything you could possibly want for breakfast and more. We will definitely return when we come back to Reykjavik.

Thank you for your tasty food and beautiful service!

So the food was decent I’m just a little confused on the pricing situation. We ordered 3 beers 1 cocktail a Cesar salad (4.790) and an ice open face smoked salmon sandwhich (3.890). I can’t recall what the beers were per beer and what the cost of the cocktail was in Icelandic currency but I did use the converter while in the restaurant and the beers averaged about 14.5 a piece and the cocktail about $22 I was expecting to spend around $134.50 usd but when I checked my statements later I was charged $258.43 im very confused on where the extra $100 came from

Noodle shop
Fast food restaurant
Noodle Station in Reykjavik offers a cozy respite from the city's chilly winds with its hearty Thai-style noodle soups. The restaurant provides a straightforward and delicious experience, allowing patrons to choose from beef, chicken, or veggie options. It's a popular spot for both locals and visitors seeking to warm up with piping hot noodle soup on cold days.
This place is freaking awesome!! I’m of Asian decent and was not expecting to find such a unique soup in Iceland. I think it might just be the best soup I never had! Sometimes soups aren’t very filling, but this soup is so I highly recommend it. Absolutely no compromises as service as also very nice and quick.
Kevin K — Google review
I lived in China for 6 years and this is some of the best beef noodles I've ever had. Rich broth with a little sweetness. Beef was fall-apart tender. Noodles perfectly cooked. Chili oil was AWESOME. Actually spicy. Also, very reasonably priced compared to average restaurant in the city...bout $14 a bowl. Very surprised to find this in Iceland of all places!
Will W — Google review
Entered this place without any expectations but so good we had it twice during my stay. I tried vegetable noodle soup. It was a good serving. They put the soaked hot rice noodles first, then the soup, sprouts, crushed peanuts and if you feel daring, you can make it extra spicy. This is the best noodle soup I have ever tried. The soup is so beautifully made, there were loads of flavours, there was something about this soup that was making us feel so good and contempt. May be that's umami. Over all one of the best place to eat in Iceland. I loved it.
Amruth S — Google review
Service was fast and welcoming! If you want "A little bit of spice" ask for no spice-- the noodles have a nice amount of flavor without an additional kick. I had the chicken noodles which had a good amount of meat and veg, with more of a "curry soup" vibe. Absolutely yummy!
Mel H — Google review
No fuss noodle shop. The key to a delicious bowl of noodle is in the broth…and they nailed it. The menu has three options only…very straight forward and perfect for when you’re not in the mood to scan through a long list of options & ingredients. Rich and delicious noodles reasonably priced for Reykjavik.
Blog V — Google review
Delicious, lots of noodles and meat, and a really tasteful soup. The only negative is that they could have more different vegetables. Cheap and tasty. The cheapest place in Reykjavik if you want good and warm food. The restaurant is quite boring and its a cheap look. But if you dont care about that i can highly recommend this place. I saw three different noodlesoup on the menu, meat, chicken and vegetables. So you choose the topping you want. It's location is behind busstop no 10, perfect after a long day in the mountains.
Samuel — Google review
My bf and I came here looking for a hearty broth-y noodle soup to warm us up on a blustery Reykjavík night and Noodle Station did not disappoint. The menu is 3 things (which I usually take as a good sign. In my experience, the fewer the number of items on the menu, the better they’re cooked): they have beef, chicken, and veggie noodles. We wanted to share a beef and a chicken so we could sample everything they had to offer. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken when we ordered. No matter. We both got the beef noodles (spicy, of course!) and it was so delicious. The beef was incredibly tender, the broth was super tasty, the portions were huge, and the price was very affordable, esp by Reykjavík standards. Highly recommend ❤️🍜 And don’t forget to check your bowl when you finish!
Kristina — Google review
A place you need to visit if you are in Reykjavik. The noodles are super delicious and the portion is quite generous, and the price is the lowest i could find in the downtown. I'd say that if you are low on money and really hungry, a noodle soup on this place will make your day!

Gastropub
Sæta Svínið Gastropub, located in the heart of Reykjavik, is a lively and popular spot known for its diverse range of live events, from karaoke nights to bingo parties. The outdoor area is bustling on sunny days, reflecting the high quality of the food. With a classic British pub ambiance and modern twist indoors, this gastropub offers a casual and welcoming setting to enjoy curated Icelandic cuisine made with fresh local ingredients.
Great location, right next to a bustling square. If the sun is out, it’s nice to sit outside and soak it up. They also have blankets if it gets chilly. We ordered the main burger on the menu, the ribeye, and broccoli and avacado appetizers. The burger was amazing. Fries came with a to die for truffle sauce. 10/10 Steak was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The price was a bit intense for my American standards, but not off from Iceland pricing. SO WORTH IT. Came with veggies, two sauces, and fries. Really really really amazing. Broccoli and avocado appetizers were great. The portions were very good sizes. I liked the broccoli more because it was crunchier, but that’s the difference between avocado and broccoli. Great dinner!
Leah S — Google review
Visited Sæta Svínið Gastropub for dinner on July 14th, 2025, around 6pm, and had a fantastic experience. We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away, which was a nice surprise. We started with the olives as a snack, then ordered the grilled salmon and the Sæta Svínið burger (no bun). Everything was seasoned perfectly. The salmon was especially flavorful, with a great blend of sauce and veggies, and the burger—with its crispy fries—was just as satisfying. The vibe of the place was local and authentic, not overly upscale but welcoming and full of character. There was a beam in the center of the room covered in stapled dollar bills, and we enjoyed a view of townspeople relaxing outside while kids skateboarded nearby. It really felt like a slice of Icelandic everyday life. Service was warm and friendly throughout, and I honestly didn’t see any downsides. It’s more of a laid-back bar atmosphere than a fine dining spot—but that’s part of its charm. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to experience great Icelandic food and culture in a relaxed setting. Solid 4 out of 5 stars.

This was our third visit and again we were not disappointed. It meets our expectations for a good gastro pub. It is a good place to sit out in the warmer months (our first visit was in April 22’) and nice and cozy in late November. We ordered the ling fish (cod relative) which my wife loved and I ordered the chef’s lamb stew which I wolfed down. Both were savory and served hot. They have a nice selection of beverages and libations to include holiday beers (Jola or “Yule”). We also ordered the deep fried cauliflower (perfect pub grub). The staff was attentive while the chef was well organized and on point (he kept the servers hoping!). The pub is warm and cozy (very hygge) and fully decorated for the holidays. The outside “Viking long house “ building is nicely lit. The location to old city center is an added benefit besides easy to get to while strolling the city. A final note on music many of the establishments have picked easy listening rock/pop (a lot of 70s/80s) and Svinid has followed this pattern. We of course would recommend a visit.

We had a great dinner here. We came on Saturday, around 5pm and place was not very crowded. My friend ordered a rib eye steak and I had a burger. Burger was amazing, brioche was soft and buttery. Meat was exceptional, medium rare just like I like it. It came with a side of kind of sweet pickles and lots of waffle fries. My friend’s steak was very delicious, also medium rare, meat inside was tender, soft and pink. On the outside if was perfectly grilled. I would definitely come back and highly recommend!

This place was really great - I did the whole “Icelandic Journey” tasting menu for lunch and had a blast. While expensive ($143 USD with two additional drinks), it was well worth it to try all the different stuff that you won’t find anywhere else. All the dishes were well presented, tasty, and the service was really excellent explaining what each thing was. I really enjoyed the brennivin, ling, cheesecake, and puffin. I would not do this tasting menu if you are just looking for a normal meal, but if you’re wanting to try something new this place does not disappoint, and I would go back for some of the individual dishes that I liked the most. Ambiance is pretty cool too, with comfortable bar and table seating inside, and a great outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. They also have a great beer selection and I would recommend the place for a quick drink as well!

Sushi Social is a trendy restaurant in Reykjavik that offers a unique fusion of Japanese sushi, South American grills, and Icelandic ingredients. Originally known as Sushi Samba, the restaurant rebranded after a high-profile scandal but has since become even better. The menu features melt-in-your-mouth fresh Icelandic fish and a wide array of selections including new style sushi and an amazing steak platter for two.
We tried the 5 course menu with smoked puffin and horse meat, and arctic char, along with salmon and lamb. It was immaculate service and every staff was beautiful to look at and the food was great. I ordered the veggie tempura and baby back ribs, and grilled chicken with a bed of yummy corn. The bathroom was spacious and there's a coat rack for jackets. Drinks was fun and interesting and dessert was strawberry sorbet. We were celebrating a bday and the candle was so fun!!!

Exceptional experience from this restaurant. All the waiters and the sushi bar staff were super kind, the sushi was out of this world, the main courses are delicious, and the atmosphere was amazing. Get their Lax, Firefly, and Surf n’ Turf sushi’s, since all of those were amazing. The grilled lamb was so, so good as a main entree dish. We loved the music playing around and seeing everyone having a great time. The cake with the fiery candle on it was a perfect dessert to end the night in Reykjavik. All in all, this was an INCREDIBLE sushi restaurant experience and I HIGHLY recommend this spot to anyone! We LOVED it!!!

This place is a gem. It’s in downtown Reykjavik area close to many other attractions/shops/restaurants/cafes. We made no reservation but the hostess allowed us an hour time slot to dine in. Once inside, the place offers a cozy, intimate, and upscale vibe. We ordered the spider sushi roll and the Icelandic roll which they serve on a platter in the geographical shape of Iceland! Both rolls were delicious and a hefty portion. We were satisfied with the service, taste, and overall experience. The items are on the pricier end but from the looks of it, this place delivers that high end quality/service.

We love going to Sushi Social and come atleast once a month. I would recommend the Surf and Turf Maki, Beef Tenderloin with truffle garden potatoes, and Caramel fudge. Kaffivagninn is a charming breakfast and lunch cafe located by the water, known for its delicious smoked salmon breakfast plate. The restaurant, which dates back to 1935, was originally a literal coffee wagon where people would gather to enjoy their coffee. Over the years, it has evolved into a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Had a delicious late lunch at Kaffivagninn - fresh fish & chips and 'cod tongues' in a garlic butter. Service from Anna was excellent. Restaurant is recently renovated - view over the harbour, lighting and music make it the perfect spot to enjoy a slightly wet afternoon!

We stopped in for dinner and can't recommend it enough! We had made reservations online, which I also recommend. They've only been reopened for a little over a week, but they were pretty full for dinner. The place is very cute and cozy, seated right on the water, and we got a window table with a nice view of all the boats. We ordered the fish soup, lamb tenderloin, and the "Joi Special". The food was amazing! Everything tasted fresh and had so much flavor. And we had the best waiter, Oskar. He made us feel like old friends over for dinner, and even brought out a beautiful dessert when he found out it was my birthday. Can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes!

If you're looking for a taste of Icelandic cuisine, ROK is the place to be. Situated near Reykjavik's iconic Hallgrimskirkja church, this relaxed eatery offers a diverse menu featuring both local and international dishes, with an emphasis on vegan and vegetarian options. The restaurant has gained popularity for its extensive plant-based menu, which was expanded by one of the owners, Magnus Scheving, known for creating the TV show Lazy Town.
The food was amazing! I went during lunch time so I was able to get the Lunch Special that includes 2 items on the menu for about $32. The fish stew with rye bread was so comforting, and the Icelandic Char with pickles and capers were so good. It was savory and simply delicious. The service was great as well. The staff are very kind and the restaurant's atmosphere is great for a small celebration lunch or dinner.

Best meal I had while in Iceland. I highly recommend the large tasting menu. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it! Just be careful when you order because the entire table has to get the tasting menu. Essentially I had an 8-course lunch and each plate that came out was absolutely delicious. The lemon-cured salmon with goat cheese is truly a gift from the gods. And the reindeer…OMG!! Never had it before and it was a buttery blast of greatness for your taste buds. Not gamey at all. Sorry kids, but Rudolph tasted amazing and I’m not the least bit sorry. The other standout was the brownie with fresh cream. So decadent but not overpowering. The staff was so helpful and delightful. And depending where you sit, you get a view of the church across the street. I would literally come back to Iceland just to eat at this place.

We had the large tasting menu the portion is generous and we were fully stuffed after. Service staff are really nice and accommodating of our needs. The food are all fresh and nicely seasoned that you can still taste the flavours of the protein.

This was a very busy place. We got lucky to be outside seated within a few minutes due to people leaving when we arrived. I recommend making a reservation if you need immediate seating at a specific time vs trying your luck. The portions of food for the plate was adequate. They recommend 2-4 items per person which was very accurate. The staff was very friendly even though they were slammed, so that was a plus. The cocktail drinks are a little pricey (summer bloom - 3290kr), but very good and worth it. Every dish was great but read the description and ask questions if you're unsure. Cured Reindeer - delicious! Packed with flavor and has a unique texture (was not a fan of texture but was good) Caesar Salad - great salad and the chicken was excellent Beef Tenderloin - cooked the way we liked and was delicious. Beef in a Pancake - everything about this dish was wonderful. If you do not like blue cheese, I would not recommend this. Definitely try to stop by and have a drink or eat some good food at ROK

Our friend group ordered pretty much every item on the menu. Food is delicious, 2 items are enough to feed one person. The ladies of the staff were super nice and helpful with our choices. Don’t miss out on the blood orange cheesecake!

Rok serves up small bites, which you can share around the table. The dishes are pretty decent, although there’s a chance you might find some of the flavours a bit heavy with no relief. The duck confit, for instance, is quite salty and unctuous. Reservations are recommended, as the restaurant was packed when we arrived. We were able to snag the last table upstairs, which was small and low—not the most ideal for accommodating multiple dishes.
Nicole C — Google review
Rok appeared to be very popular, but we secured a spot 2 days in advance. Fortunately, we were inside, some folks remained outsided despite temperatures turning low in the later evening. The staff was friendly but superslow. The food items were fairly small but everything was a delight. We focused on seafood-based items and found all of the very tasty.

Mokka Kaffi holds a significant place in Reykjavik's history as the city's first coffee house, introducing Icelanders to espresso for the first time in 1958. Initially met with skepticism, it soon became a popular spot for locals to gather over a cup of coffee.
Great spot for freshly made coffee and waffles. With the muted colors and carpeted floor, you’ll feel like you’re in a ski chalet after enjoying a day on the slopes! Their delicious waffles are their specialty…don’t forget the thick whipped cream.

Old, Cozy, Classic with art. Beside rainbow road and tourist. It could be calm or very busy place. Good coffee !!! Waffles is recommend.

Got a cappuccino and the coconut roll. They were both solid, the coconut roll was very unique—like a paste covered in marzipan, very very sweet. You can only have a couple of bites and need to eat it with a coffee. What stands out the most is the atmosphere; it is extremely cozy and serene. Maybe the quietest cafe I’ve been in with patrons. Probably an amazing spot for reading when it’s cold out. Great for trying to experience a spot the locals love.

My husband and I will go on record to say this cafe has the BEST Hot Chocolate we've ever had, in any country, ever! I am gluten free and there were many food options to enjoy as well - the almond pastry and gf bread with butter, ham and cheese were fantastic. My husband really enjoys the waffles. Already have another trip to Iceland planned and this stop is one of the first on the list!

Cute little spot right on Rainbow Road with amazing waffles. Painted red with the door propped open, we felt welcome. We walked in early afternoon and grabbed a booth. You order at the counter and they make fresh your delicious waffle. You have a choice of 4 toppings, we went with the most popular Whipped Cream and Jam. The whipped cream not sweet, so mixing it with the strawberry jam is perfect. The 2 large sweet waffles and a bottle of Coke came to 2.635,00 ISK. Sounds like a lot of money, but it was worth the price of $20.62.

Small café on the famous rainbow road - i has a hot chocolate and a waffle with whipped cream and nutella. Both were very delicious, serving was quick and staff was incredibly friendly. I felt very welcome, it was the perfect break from walking. Would definitely recommend stopping by!

La Primavera Ristorante is a North Italian restaurant with two locations in Reykjavik, one in the Harpa concert hall and the other in the historic Marshall House. Since its establishment in 1993, it has been dedicated to bringing authentic Italian flavors to Iceland. The menu features regional Italian dishes that incorporate fresh Icelandic produce, offering a unique twist on classic favorites.
We came here based on the recommendation from Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil. This restaurant had delicious seafood and everything was top notch and elegant. Our server was very knowledgeable about wine pairings and suggested the perfect bottle of white to go with our feast. Reservations recommended.

Great Italian restaurant off the beaten path. Fresh pasta which was delicious. Everything we ate was great. A bit more classy dress seemed to be preferred as we got some side eye in our winter gear.
#Hashtag S — Google review
Worst restaurant in Reykjavík Hi there, my name is Jökull, Im a local of Reykjavík and I’ve been to most of the restaurants in the city. I can unequivocally say La Primavera is the worst one. A sudden decision to go out on a friday, most of downtown is already booked, so I look for something near the docks. 4.5 stars, italian, what could possibly go wrong? The menu didn’t look like a menu for italian food, it was one of those menus where they list 3 of the ingredients as a course name. We ponder this conundrum a bit and I jokingly say: “there’s a kebab place close by you know…” Bread was boring, tasteless, no salt provided. Italy is known for a it’s warm fresh white bread, why am I being served cold coarse sourdough? Appetiser was a salad to share, not because we’re that kind of people but because that’s the only starter that sounded like food. It was the most chaotic and uninviting salad I have ever had, with peaches and whipped ricotta it was only one ingredient away from being a nice desert. The main courses: Carbonara and a shellfish pasta. Okay this is getting a bit ridiculous, two more bland and unappealing dishes, I make better carbonara at home and I’m not that good in the kitchen. Honestly the AI could do a better job, it’s carbonara, how complicated could it be? Im not sure what to say about the seafood pasta, it looked very bad, and neither tasted like seafood nor pasta. For reference it’s the black mess in a bowl in the accompanying photos. For these 3 courses and two drinks I paid 178 dollars. No discount even though we barely touched the food. The waiters knew we didn’t like the food, but the didn’t approach us and ask. We got up to pay and told them we were not happy and they said sorry, and charged the full amount. I wont tell you where to go to explore the culinary city of Reykjavík, there’s so many decent places. But please, go anywhere else than La Primavera. Reykjavík is expensive, and quality is generally really high. We had a kebab on the way home. Unfortunate foreshadowing.

Best dinner we had in Iceland. Came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We ordered the carbonara and the veal with spaghetti, both were excellent. The carbonara was the best I’ve ever had. Service was excellent and the ambience was great.

La Primavera was nothing short of spectacular. From the ambiance to the simple menu, the wine selection and service. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel special and welcomed. The location is away from the crowded downtown while being 5 minutes away from it and there's plenty of parking. Now to their food. Perfectly balanced dishes, best ingredients, freshly made pasta, perfect execution and plating. Once of the best restaurants in Europe without a doubt.
Grey T — Google review
This restaurant was elegant and the food was delicious with beautiful presentation. La Primavera was very accommodating of our large group and variety of dietary needs. I highly recommend the mozzarella di bufala with marinated tomatoes and nectarines. I also had a delicious vegetarian pasta dish. The tiramisu was absolutely decadent.
Cheri M — Google review
Out of our whole trip, I could say without a doubt that this was the worst restaurant in all of Reykjavík. It wasn’t busy and food still took over an hour to be served, which was missing items and was horrible. We got the seafood linguine and veal carbonara, which was hilariously bland, seriously a block of salt would’ve tasted better. Linguine was alright but after waiting for over an hour it still was missing the lobster - which came after we were done eating. Our server only checked in on us three times before the food arrived and never came back. One time for water, second for wine, third for bread and appetizer, then a whole hour until a food runner brought our meals. I mean that veal felt like it was stale, not seasoned, and old - it wasn’t even hot! Had to comment again it was pretty funny how bad it was. The other issue was that the restaurant was unbelievably hot, even in my thin sweater I was sweating which caused me and my wife to be very uncomfortable. They apologized for the long waits and could see how upset we were and still charged full price ($184). We even rushed home from our day trip to Kirkjufell to make our reservation, and like we said many times we should’ve just canceled.

Nestled within one of Reykjavik's historic buildings, BRÚT Restaurant offers a delightful seafood experience that showcases the unique flavors of Icelandic waters. This charming wine bar and bistro invites you to explore lesser-known delicacies like garlic butter sea snails and rock crab paired with refreshing cucumber and wasabi.
We had an amazing meal. Caviar was absolutely delicious and paired so well with the buttered baby potatoes and sour cream. The sea snails seem deceptively simple but was so well cooked and flavourful. The skate fish was exceptional - super fresh and perfectly cooked that the flesh just slid off the bones. Artic char was amazing as well and the use of nuts in fish dishes is unusual but definitely very clever. A place that I'd definitely return to.

What an amazing experience! The food was high quality and delicious with not much of a wait between dishes. The service was exceptional and very attentive. I highly recommend visiting and trying out their menu!

I really enjoyed the food! Unfortunately, they didn't have the vegan caviar, which I was eager to try. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, and while the prices are high, I guess it comes with their quality and Michelin recommendation. Ann, the sommelier, was excellent. I had the broccoli dish, and it was perfect, while my husband loved his seafood. I would definitely return if I ever go back to Iceland. 💕

Had a lovely dining experience at brùt, the food was I loved my Arctic char and My dining companion and I fought over the bread! She enjoyed her escargot and I thoroughly disliked the mushy crab appetizer thing. Pretty much every seat has a wonderful view looking out at the Great historic buildings outside.

We enjoyed dinner at BRÚT on a cold Sunday evening, and were delighted with our experience. Each dish was well considered, delicious and beautifully presented. We especially loved the carrots and the seafood soup. The cocktails were expertly mixed, with a unique flourish. Would absolutely recommend!

I dined here and really enjoyed the seafood forward menu. I wasn’t wowed by every dish I got, but I was pleased with every dish. What stood out to me was the fresh seafood and awesome service! Their wine list is extensive (but expensive). The cocktails are delicious!

Had higher expectations as this is in the Michelin guide. The lunch menu is quite limited in choices. We had the catch of the day and skate fish. Both were beautifully presented but the fishes and fries were too salty. This might explain the unfinished food at another table too. The restaurant was quiet during lunch and we were seated at a nice area next to the windows. We have tried other restaurants in Iceland that served food more suited to our palates. For those keen to visit, suggest to go during dinner time for a (hopefully) larger menu selection.

Restaurant
Icelandic Street Food is a cozy local cafe that serves up a variety of hearty Icelandic comfort dishes in a cheerful atmosphere. One must-try dish is the Plokkfiskur, a fish stew with boiled potatoes and bechamel, best enjoyed with buttered rugbraudh (dark rye bread). The menu also includes shellfish soup, traditional lamb soup, rhubarb-oatmeal crumble pie called hjonabandssaela, and pancakes.
Free refills, free waffles, cozy and warm place, super friendly staff, what more can you ask for. I recommend the lamb and shellfish soup. Prefer the bowl only as the bread bowl absorbs all the delicious soup!
Wan C — Google review
I came here just after arriving in town, a little jet lagged and very hungry. I got the soup in a bread bowl and had three servings - tomato, lamb and seafood. I liked them all, but I preferred them in the order listed. Next time I would probably get a regular bowl with bread on the side, because with each serving the structural integrity of the bread bowl deteriorated. The free waffles were a nice touch!
Amy J — Google review
If you are on a budget in Iceland, then this place is a good spot to come for a meal - though I would probably only come once. They offer three types of soup: lamb, tomato and seafood, and a few other items. Soup appears to be what most people order, and you can get unlimited free refills of any of them so you can try all three if you want. They are pretty watery so don't expect a stew-like consistency. Personally I didn't like the seafood one - there weren't any "pieces" of seafood in it, it was only broth. The lamb was the heartiest with chunks of lamb, carrots and potatoes. The tomato was much what you would expect from tomato soup. The atmosphere is cool - the servers are nice enough and the place is bright and comfortable. You don't feel any pressure to move on in a hurry. Free waffles with chocolate sauce and free water are a bonus. Now that I've been and know what to expect, I won't come again but it's worth at least one visit for a reasonably-priced meal in Reykjavik which are few and far between!

Excellent soup. I had the lamb soup several times, it never disappointed. You also got free refills. You always walked out satisfied and full. Added bonus....FREE WAFFLES with blueberry jam.
Danny B — Google review
Icelandic Street Food offers a genuine taste of local cuisine, but my experience began on a slightly confusing note. When I arrived, I didn’t immediately feel welcomed — perhaps due to the restaurant being very crowded and the staff visibly overwhelmed. While understandable, this initial lack of clarity made the arrival feel a bit disorganized. Once seated, however, the experience improved considerably. We tried all three soups — tomato, fish, and lamb — and every one of them was excellent. The flavours were authentic, hearty, and comforting, and the price–quality ratio is truly outstanding. It’s clear that the soups are the highlight of the menu. The complimentary waffles are a nice gesture, but I feel this part of the service could benefit from a small upgrade. With only sugar or a single type of jam available, the topping options felt quite limited. Offering a slightly wider selection would elevate this detail and make the experience more in line with the generosity shown in the rest of the meal. Overall, despite a somewhat confusing start, Icelandic Street Food is a great place to get introduced to Icelandic gastronomy. The quality of the soups alone makes the visit worthwhile, and with a few adjustments in the reception and waffle offerings, the restaurant could deliver an even more welcoming and complete experience.
Rui P — Google review
The food was great. We ordered a sheep soup and a shellfish soup, both served in bread bowls. Each was around 3,000 ISK, and you can refill as many times as you want. Both soups tasted amazing and were perfect for the cold weather. The only small downside was that the bread was a bit cold, so the first round of soup cooled down quite fast. But on the second round, when everything was nice and hot, it was really comforting and delicious.

This restaurant provides refillable soup for guests with only one-time payment. The shell fish and lamb are amazing. Staff are very warm and kind, a good place for someone who visits Iceland with limited budget.

Apotek Restaurant, located in Reykjavik, Iceland, is housed in a historic pharmacy building and offers a unique dining experience. The restaurant serves delicious small plates and main courses such as sea trout on a Himalayan salt block and char-grilled beef tenderloin. Additionally, the cozy lounge at Apotek is known for serving some of the best cocktails in Reykjavik, including creative concoctions like the Dillagin and Rodaberg.
It was extremely delicious. We order set of 3 pieces. And it was tasty and very nice looking. The portions were big, so we even haven’t managed to finish our main course. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the restaurant gifted us with two glasses of Champaign which was very nice. We were there at Friday evening and it was full, atmosphere was very nice as well

Ambience: Very well design venue. Dim lighting, dark brown furniture , very elegant and sophisticated. The seats were extremely comfortable . Loved how romantic the ambience was. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Food: Very flavorful. The food was extremely delicious and the combination of flavors and ingredients were very creative. The plates were artistically designed and well presented. It was truly a fine dining experience in terms of taste and quality. It appeared to me that there was a lot of inspiration from other cuisines mixed with the local cuisine which made the food even more interesting. There was a touch of Mediterranean cuisine infused with every dish which not only did not affect the authenticity of the dish itself but added another complexity and color to it which I found very amusing. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Service: Excellent. There were plenty of staff on the floor attending the guests. Unlike what we have experienced with other restaurants in Iceland, where there weren’t enough team members attending the guests, this place had the right ratio and the staff were all very warm and were fully focused on the guest experience which was great to see. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Overall: Highly recommend it!

One of the city’s more stylish dining spots, set in a historic building that used to house a pharmacy. The interior blends a modern, upscale feel with touches of old-world charm, making it an inviting choice for a nice evening out. It’s centrally located, so it’s easy to include as part of a day exploring downtown. The menu is Icelandic with a creative twist, featuring local ingredients like lamb, fresh seafood, and Arctic char, often prepared with a contemporary or international influence. Presentation is elegant, and the dishes are crafted with attention to detail. Portion sizes aren’t huge, but the quality is consistently high, and the flavors are balanced. The cocktail menu is also a highlight, with inventive drinks that reflect the restaurant’s pharmacy heritage. Service is generally polished and attentive, though it can feel a bit brisk when the restaurant is busy. Prices are on the higher side, but in line with other fine dining spots in Reykjavík. Reservations are strongly recommended, as Apotek is popular with both locals and visitors, especially in the evenings and on weekends. The atmosphere manages to strike a balance between classy and relaxed, making it suitable for both a special occasion and a memorable night out during your trip. If you want to experience Reykjavík dining at its more refined, this is one of the best places to do it. Overall, Apotek Restaurant delivers on presentation, flavors, and atmosphere. While it’s not the most budget-friendly option, it’s a strong choice if you’re looking for a stylish dining experience that highlights Icelandic ingredients with creativity.

We visited Apotek Restaurant in Reykjavík and chose the 7-course tasting menu. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I truly appreciate good food — we’ve dined at Michelin-starred restaurants and many outstanding places around the world — but this restaurant absolutely amazed me. The service was flawless: we asked to change a few courses in the tasting menu, and our waitress carefully discussed everything with the chef. Each dish was perfectly thought out and beautifully executed. From the different kinds of fish to the lamb and even a vegetable steak — it was a true culinary journey. The evening ended with the most delightful dessert — local yogurt. Even though I was already full, this sweet course was so light and delicious that I couldn’t resist finishing it. Huge thanks to the chef, the entire team, and the professional staff for creating such an unforgettable evening. An absolute highlight of our trip!

We went there at 17:30 and there was no queue. By the time we finished, there was a line! So make sure to go early if you didn't book a table. I was longing for a lobster dish in Iceland and found this! We were there right at 5 p.m. when they opened. Many customers were already waiting for the door to open. We didn’t have reservations but were lucky to get a seat and order quickly. Free bread was served. The seafood pasta had almost more seafood than pasta—scallops, shrimp, and lobster. We both really liked it! The catch of the day was wolf fish, which was also tasty.

Iris was our server. She was wonderful with recommendations for the Lobster Tacos and the seafood pasta. Both items were wonderful, delicate complex flavors that were very very good. She was helpful answering a bunch of questions we had since this was our first evening in Reykjavik. I absolutely recommend putting this restaurant on you list of places to eat. The cocktails were enjoyable. On a funny note beware of the bread, there was a dark piece that was challenging to see in the restaurant lighting. There was butter on it so i thought it was bread. It was a decorative piece of lava rock.

Overall a very nice dinner, even if not outstanding across the board. Would recommend. Was pretty empty around 6 on a Friday night but started to fill up by 7 so a reservation would be wise. The ambiance is nice if a little too dark/dim in areas, making it hard to see the menu and the cleanliness of the place/plates. Our server was nice and super sweet although we didn’t get her name. Food-wise, the bread tasted fresh and was delicious, and the lamb sirloin was tender and not gamey, so was great for someone not a fan of lamb. However, the neck did taste gamey and I would personally have preferred a lighter sauce than hollandaise for the whole dish. Similarly, the shellfish pasta had a lot of fresh seafood and potential, but was sadly held back from reaching the heights of greatness by an exceedingly average sauce. The standout of the night was definitely the langoustine tacos, which I had been least excited and most skeptical about coming from SoCal, but turned out to be the bomb. The pairing of flavors, from the savory to slightly sweet plus the delicate crispy breading of the langoustine was just simply *chef’s kiss*. These are definitely worth the hype, if not necessarily the other dishes. The lunch menu is more limited but also cheaper (and does include the tacos!) so that might be a better option if you’re wanting to try this place and want to be a bit more budget-conscious.

We were looking for something close to home and found this lovely restaurant literally across the street. We started with soups — I had the seafood soup and my husband chose the lamb soup — both full of flavour and beautifully seasoned. For mains, I went with Arctic char while he had the lamb steak, and both dishes were cooked perfectly with great taste and presentation. The location is very convenient, right on the main street, and the atmosphere is cosy. Definitely recommend it, especially if you’re staying nearby. I recently dined at Reykjavik Kitchen and had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. I began with the creamy seafood soup, which was rich, comforting, and full of fresh flavor - perfectly complemented by a crisp glass of Sancerre from France. For the main course, I enjoyed the Icelandic lamb shank, served with a velvety potato purée enriched with butter and cream, vibrant red cabbage puree, tender broccolini and a luscious red wine and honey glaze. The Malbec from Argentina paired beautifully, enhancing the deep, savory flavors of the dish. To finish, I indulged in a Skyr cheesecake on a crispy kadaifi and pistachio cream base, topped with a delightful cherry sauce. A glass of Las Moras was the perfect companion - smooth, balanced and a wonderful end to an exceptional meal. The service was outstanding - warm, professional, and attentive. A special thank you to Magdalena, my server, for her excellent recommendations and kind hospitality and to chef Kasia for creating such beautifully prepared and flavorful dishes. Everything at Reykjavik Kitchen was simply exceptional - the food, the wine, and the service. A truly memorable dining experience in Reykjavík. Highly recommended!

cozy and relaxing ambient with delicious dishes. The Coffee cured salmon was a beautiful balance of sophistication and somplicity. It was just right firmness and delicaed enough to melt on the palate. The oven baked cod fish fillet topping sundry tomato salsa and lemon thyme polenta was perfectly cooked. The texture was tender and buttery. Fish ceviche was a refreshing burst of bright and clean flavors and the lamb shank was nothing short of exceptional. It was rich , savory and deeply aromatic. It also had that melt-in-your-mouth texture.

A great dining experience. I went for the discover Iceland menu. Each dish was lovely. Left me wanting more. Also the piano player was a good addition to accompany a lovely meal with some music. Truly wonderful experience.

A fine dining experience. The cod and the scallops were excellent. Great selection of wines. The service was very good as well which complemented the unique atmosphere. If you want a fine dinner in Reykjavik this is probably your place.

Wow, what a fantastic meal! We did the secret 6-course chef's menu and everything was phenomenal -- beef pepper steak and glazed lamb, beef carpaccio, tiger prawns, tuna tartare, slow-cooked cod, chocolate cake 🤤 Beautiful presentation, A+ service. We were totally stuffed by the end!

We tried the taste of Iceland menu. Not joking literally the best lamb of my life!!! The lamb spring roll is out of the world! Already missing the dish!!! The rhubarb dessert is delicious too!

Our first meal in Reykjavik did not disappoint! We got the tasting menu + lamb tartare and everything was good. Dishes came out fast and hot. The chocolate and raspberry dessert was to die for omg. Highly recommend this place!

My partner and I visited Iceland from Scotland at the start of the week and I booked here for his 30th birthday on Tuesday. We opted for the secret menu with the wine pairing and it was outstanding! Very attentive service and the most delicious food. Thank you for making it such a special evening. We will definitely be back the next time we’re visiting!

The food was fantastic. Each course was brought out one at a time and we were not rushed at all. The desert was to die for. Along with a burch beer all was good. The atmosphere was quiet so no loud conversations. Our waiter was so attentive so when we finished each course he cleaned off the table and then brought out clean utensils. We had the best dinner so far for our vacation. Where You have to try this place. One caution when ordering ordering meat was medium rare and they didn't get asked how we wanted our steak. The chef decides when it's ready to serve.

It was no doubt our best meal during our 10-day stay in Iceland. Service staff was extremely friendly and attentive to our need. The food was amazingly creative with excellent execution and presentation. I will definitely come back if I visit Iceland again.

Fjallkonan, located in the heart of Reykjavik near Ingolfstorg square, offers a delightful dining experience with a focus on wholesome vegetarian dishes. Their weekend brunch is particularly popular, featuring a variety of delicious options including their own twist on classic dishes like eggs Benedict. The restaurant also provides outdoor seating for casual dining during warmer weather and serves small plates such as slow-cooked lamb and lobster tempura.
Best lamb burger (less sauce) and fish dish. Lot of food, big dish. but quite high price. Super Atmosphere and service, friendly.

My dad and I shared the Icelandic lamb platter. All four lamb dishes were delicious and we loved the serving board. The whole table of four shared the coconut candy cake for dessert - it is HUGE! The table next to us was so impressed by the size they took a picture too. We ate the whole thing and were all uncomfortably full and happy. I selected this restaurant based on a short walking distance from our hotel. The entire experience exceeded my expectations.

Their deep fried oreos are to die for! They are like the ones from home with a much more elegant twist. The bread with the salt in the butter was also sooo good. We ate here multiple times and never got tired of the food.

This place is genuinely cute — the seating layout strikes a perfect balance: intimate enough for a date, yet spacious and welcoming for bigger groups. The homey décor adds real warmth; it feels like eating in a stylish friend’s living room.Service Friendly and attentive at the start, orders taken quickly, but there was a noticeable wait for the food to arrive.Food highlights Crispy cauliflower was the star — generous portion, perfectly crunchy thick breading, tender inside. Easily big enough to share as an appetizer. Lamb burger got a solid thumbs-up from my husband. Harissa fries were tasty but a let-down in the flavour department — barely any harissa kick detectable. Plenty of veggie/vegan options, which is always appreciated.Price Around $50 per person (one appetizer shared, one entrée each, two drinks). Fair for the quality and vibe, though the missing harissa flavour stung a little at that price. Lovely atmosphere and some really well-executed dishes make it a great choice for a relaxed meal with friends or a casual date. Come for the cosy feels and the cauliflower — just manage expectations on the “harissa” fries. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a very good lunch. It may have been a 4.5 stars but the w0nderful outdoor seating and quaint interiors make it a 5 star round off. The sweet potato fondant was very good. The chicken salad was very good. The chicken wings were ok. The beer selection is good.

Our hotel staff recommended this place, and it did not disappoint! We ordered the salmon and the lamb burger—both were excellent. The salmon portion was generous and the lamb burger definitely top-tier. Great recommendation and a fantastic dining experience overall!

I came here over the holidays so this is a late post but this place is adorable! It was one of the first places that caught my eye when I was walking around because of how cute it looked all lit up and decorated! I made reservations for brunch on a Sunday as soon as they opened. I got a hot mocha that was one of the best I had in Iceland and the chicken and waffles were sooo good! They were so flavorful and a great portion size. The service was great and I really loved the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. It’s super cozy!

Hlemmur Mathöll is a unique food hall located in the heart of Reykjavik, within the city's largest bus station. Despite its unconventional setting, it has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The food hall offers a diverse range of culinary experiences, catering to various tastes and preferences. From delectable pastries and aromatic coffee at Braudh & Co to organic local refreshments at the Tea & Coffee Cafe, there is something for everyone.
The fish and chips is incredible and also the pizza. Such a great atmosphere!! We will be back if we come back to Iceland.

Amazing food hall. If you don’t know what you want or everyone in your party wants something different, this is the place to go. Can feel slightly cramped when busy but everyone was so patient and friendly. Shared a table with an Indian family, happily discussed what everyone got. On the table was wolf fish cream dish, pizza, tacos, gelato, and a pork and rice Vietnamese dish. All amazing. Order and find a table, wait for food buzzer to go off.

I’ve always liked the food hall concept, this one didn’t disappoint! Some good choices for food here, I went with the fish and chips! Hot and fresh fish that was battered just right! Fries were awesome as well, crispy and not soft. The hot dog was very good and priced well. Hot dog and fries for about 2,000 krona.

I am on vacation in Reykjavik, Iceland and went to crab a bit to eat at Fjarhusid Hlemmur, and please note, THE SERVICE AND THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE!!! I ordered a burger, fries, and a small order of wings. When I went to the counter to pickup my order I asked the waiter if I could have my order to go because I received a call requiring me to immediately meet my wife. The waiter had an attitude with me requesting that my order be prepared for carry out; he stated I should have told them up front , and the next time to do so! I was polite and apologized. I then asked to have my burger cut in half. The cook again got an attitude as though I was asking for too much!! The lady at the register got a knife to cut the burger in half, however, the cook rudely told her “NO,” then snatched the knife from her hand!!!. I said “so you’re not cutting my sandwich in half” and he looked at me and said “NO”; he then and told the lady at the register to hand me my Order. Mind you I had already paid with my credit card so I just took my order and left. When I began to eat the burger the flavor was horrible, and to my surprise, significantly undercooked to the point of being literally raw in the middle as you can see in my attached photo!!! I did not want to walk back to complain because of how I was treated when I initially placed my order. Reykjavík Iceland is beautiful, however, the horrible service, and food at Fjarhusid Hlemmur has left a very bad impression!!! If anyone has plans to visit Reykjavík avoid Fjarhusia Hlemmur restaurant!!! There are many other restaurants in the area with far superior service and food than Fjarhusid Hlemmur!!

Mama Reykjavik is not just a restaurant; it's a wellness space focused on plant-based dining and overall well-being. Situated in central Reykjavik, this lively eatery blends fresh Icelandic ingredients with spices from various cultures such as Indian, Jamaican, and West African, offering a unique dining experience. It's perfect for those looking for a revitalizing meal to nourish both the body and mind.
The vegan food was amazingly tasty! The homemade juice was delicious, and the cacao drink SO yummy! The upstairs restaurant is very cozy, great vibe, healthy options that taste great and the wait staff are very kind and you know each dish is ordered with wellness in mind. A home run place to visit and eat, drink and be healthy!

The food was absolutely delicious, one of the best food places in all of Reykjavik. It's a little hidden away which, but I'm glad we found it. It's a little expensive, but it seems good for Reykjavik prices. highly recommended coming here for lunch or dinner. Yoda was a beautiful dog.

The only restaurant we chose to visit more than once on our five day Reykjavik trip. Food is just outstanding and is probably the best vegan faire we've tasted for some time. Staff are so welcoming and accommodating too, and the restaurant has such a calming vibe to it. Prices for Reykjavik are reasonable and portion sizes are huge. Such a lucky find 🍀

Love the Staff! Genuine! Love the food! Full of flavor! Chili Sin Carne 10/10 - (spice level 7/10) Dhal a la Mama, not my favorite, a bit sweet for me, does have a flavor. I won’t rate, as i have my biased against sweeter hot meals. Drink Kambucha was okay, i am not a drink expert. I will be trying other dishes and drinks and update my review. I am here 3rd day in a row 🙂 Atmosphere is amazing, glass roof windows make it a unique experience!

A Perfect Final Treat in Iceland We chose to dine here on our last day in Iceland, and it was the perfect way to end our two-week adventure. I had been looking forward to this meal the entire trip… and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We ordered the vegan dahl and curry, garlic naan, a smoothie, the orgasm cake, and a peanut bliss ball. Everything was bursting with flavor - the smoothie in particular was incredibly refreshing, and the desserts were just as memorable. I really appreciate their commitment to using natural, wholesome ingredients. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, exactly what you want after a long day. If you’re in Iceland, do yourself a favor and eat here.

My friends and I were looking for some hearty food that would warm us from the inside out, and we found it here! The dhal was our favorite dish here. It was warm and lightly spiced. It felt both healthy and hearty. Leaving our meal, we felt nourished. Heads up if you’re expecting an authentic South Asian meal, this isn’t it. However the dishes take inspiration from global flavors. The entrance is a bit hard to find. We had to go through a courtyard and then up stairs, but the short journey was well worth it because the interior was so cute and cozy! Even if you aren’t vegetarian/vegan, you will still enjoy this meal!

Stopped there on our first night in Reykjavik and it was a wonderful dinner place, we could see that this place was very local. Gluten-Free bread available by request. 10 Stars all around. Our server, Úlfurinn, was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and he provided us with excellent recommendations on plates, complimentary drinks and desserts. (GF marzipan dessert available). 1/2 servings allow for sampling of more than one dish if you are feeling adventurous or torn between plates. The food and service was so amazing that we ate dinner here twice on our 4 day stay. Best rustic GF bread I have ever had in my entire life. The Coocoo's Nest is a charming restaurant located in Reykjavik's Grandi old port district, founded by the husband and wife team Iris Ann and Lucas Keller. The menu reflects Chef Keller's Californian roots with dishes like green eggs and ham, breakfast burritos, and the ever-changing Vegan Surprise. The restaurant hosts themed food nights and Italian-themed Happy Hours with aperitivo-inspired cocktails.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Reykjavik ... lovely atmosphere, friendly service and tasty, well made food with simple yet very nice presentation. The brunch menu has some great choices and I really liked the poached egg/spinach dish that I shared with a friend earlier today ( 30th December, 2020) ... 1/2 serving seen in the photos I'm sharing today. 😋 👍💕👍😋

An outstanding brunch location! Takes a while to walk down to the harbour but it is absolutely worth it. The staff were incredibly friendly and let us chill inside before they opened as the weather was quite brutal. Reasonably priced with amazing food and drinks. They offer a single vegan option "the vegan surprise". We had this and the breakfast burrito both were amazing. The vegan dish was designed as a vegan dish rather then removing non vegan elements and was incredible. They have a great drinks selection and we tried their beetroot mimosa which if you like beetroot is highly recommended. The restaurant is very cosy with great interior and amazing bathrooms. Sounds weird but some of the best bathrooms I've seen in a restaurant.

Where hipster meets fine dining. Hipster atmosphere coupled with delicious fancy food. The place is small and cosy and is located in one of Reykjavik's hipest neighborhoods. Their brownie was super tasty and went quite well with the hot chocolate I ordered. Friendly English-speaking staff. They accept card payments.

Absolutely delicious! I had the eggs Florentine with a blue cheese sauce, perfect sour dough, and delicious greens. Reasonably priced drinks for Iceland. English spoken and English menus available. Very homey atmosphere. Can get quite crowded for brunch. Small but pretty wheelchair friendly—there’s a metal ledge to get in (an inch or two high) that would require some help and a giant wheelchair accessible bathroom.

The food was really good. Was it value for money? Probably. This was our most expensive meal in Iceland. It was a great meal on the whole. And the food was excellent. The plating was also very good. Everyone was satisfied. Except for the volcano white chocolate dessert which was actually not worthy of being on the menu. We left it uneaten. It was too sweet and rich to enjoy. The flavors were very good. The Atlantic crab could be skipped. Maybe Sumac on the whole was a better experience and our best in Iceland for food.

Wonderful experience at Tides restaurant, located on the first floor of the Reykjavik EDITION hotel. Alex A — Google review
I stayed at The Reykjavik Edition for a week and ate at Tides every day, which let me run through most of what the kitchen does. The style is modern Icelandic with very clean flavors, great seafood and lamb, and a clear focus on top local produce. Evenings run a tasting format while breakfast and lunch are simpler, which keeps the quality high across the day. Execution was consistently precise. Raw plates were bright and well seasoned, cooked plates showed good heat control, and seasoning stayed disciplined. One night a kitchen equipment issue meant the team pivoted to a tartare led service and it turned into a memorable, creative dinner rather than a compromise. Menu touches like 1,000-day aged Feykir cheese, careful use of the Josper grill, and well judged desserts fit the concept. For me this was the most complete hotel restaurant experience in Reykjavik, and easily worth planning into a stay.

I am in love with this place, elegant, beautiful atmosphere and the service was incredible since the hostess welcomed me to my server Nabila, she is super nice, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and hospitality. I decided to order the testing menu and a cocktail 10/10, she also recommended to me to order a red wine (Malbec) to pairs with the main course, it was lamb, she definitely wasn’t wrong with that advice, because elevated all the flavors. If you go to Iceland I highly recommend to get a special diner here.
Krishna P — Google review
This was our most memorable dinner of our 8-night stay throughout Iceland. Pricey, but SO worth it! The restaurant is simply stunning. The lighting, music and decor all combine to create the most incredible atmosphere. The service is beyond top notch. We had a special birthday for one of our family members, and the chefs went above and beyond to accommodate his dietary restrictions (vegan) in creating a delicious appetizer and over-the-top dessert. Highest compliments to the chefs! Filipe, the bartender, makes craft cocktails as good as they get (try the Mexican Old Fashioned). Our server, Victor, was so attentive and skilled. Just a 10/10 experience all the way around.
Nancy T — Google review
Four of us came here for dinner on a Saturday evening as the capstone to our 9 days in Iceland, expecting the Michelin-recommended experience to be a worthy finale to our amazing trip. Sadly, that was not the case. While the food was excellent, the service was genuinely quite bad, and I don't say that lightly. Basic slowness turned to outright rudeness by the end of the night, a comically antithetical twist on the Michelin recognition proudly displayed on the wall near our table. It took 30 minutes before we even received our starter popovers, and another 50 minutes after that before we were served the first course. Nearby us, other tables were being compensated with additional popovers for the restaurant-wide delay. For us, nothing, not even acknowledgement of the delay from our waitress except to say it was "being plated" when we finally, desperately, asked her when we could expect the food to arrive, about 10 minutes before it actually came. The only thing that came at a reasonable interval was dessert, a decadent slice of basque cheesecake with the smoothest mango sorbet and thinly sliced orange garnish. After our dessert, the waitress brought us our check, and I started to ask if she could split it for us for convenience, but she abruptly left after I'd gotten only a few words in, and went to the table next to ours to converse with them for several minutes. I don't mind that she was more attentive to other tables, but it highlighted the mediocrity of our own treatment, especially in light of the chronic delays. The rudeness to us at the end of an unacknowledged painfully slow meal was one final nail in the coffin. When we finally paid our bill and were ready to leave, they interrupted our exit to have us join them at the counter to resolve a 2000 ISK gap in their calculations, an awkward and hilarious gaffe at the end of our inglorious experience. At this price point and given their Michelin recommendation, we were disappointed at how lackluster our experience was. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Located in an old and charming building that used to be Reykjavik's main post office, Pósthús Food Hall & Bar is the newest addition to the city's food scene. Opening its doors in November 2022 after six years of preparation, this food hall currently houses nine restaurants with more on the way. It has quickly become a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, attracting actors, musicians, and other well-known Icelanders.
Super cool place to eat with tons of options! The variety of food was fantastic. And don’t make the mistake that I made by trying to find seating in the main area where most of the eateries are. There is plenty of additional seating on the outer rim of the restaurant and downstairs. I went with the fish and chips from Finsen and they were outstanding! Crispy on the outside and fresh fish on the inside. Great casual place to eat and is located near the center of town.

This food hall is a 5-minute walk from Reykjavik EDITION hotel, and it was recommended to us by the hotel concierge as a good casual place for a quick bite. During our trip, we visited four different food halls across Iceland, and Pósthús Food Hall & Bar in Reykjavik was by far the best. It was fairly busy when we stopped in for dinner, but despite the crowd, the customer service was excellent and we never experienced a long wait. The space itself was clean and welcoming, with a decent number of tables available. That said, adding more seating could be helpful during peak hours, especially for larger groups who might find it hard to sit together. What really stood out was the variety of food options available. We ordered the burrito and fish and chips, along with a side of chips with salsa and cheese dip. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish, and I would absolutely dine here again. Highly recommended if you're in Reykjavik and looking for a casual but high quality food spot.

This food hall was an absolute highlight of my trip! The variety was incredible – from fresh seafood and Icelandic classics to global cuisines. I had crispy fish and chips that were perfectly golden and flaky, and later tried some Indian food that was rich, flavorful, and surprisingly authentic. Every stall offered something unique, and everything I tasted was delicious. The atmosphere was lively but still comfortable, with plenty of seating and friendly staff. Excellent food and service. If you want a warm vegan meal close to everything, this is the place. The flavor combinations are exceptional. Great place to experiment and get ideas for your own cooking. The staff is so friendly or you just want to give them a big hug. I highly recommend.

Only some vegan options. Locals said they sold pizza but there was no pizza on the menu. Quite pricey. Sides to the main course tasted bland. Beautiful and warm interior ambiance. You take a menu, order at the register, take a seat, and the staff will bring the food to you. Water pitchers are free and can be taken to your table. Although the staff were quite pleasant, service was a bit slow, in my opinion, due to the high customer volume with only a few workers. It was a nice visit but I will not return.

I was excited to try one of Icelands all vegan restaurants. Its definitely worth a stop for vegans visiting Iceland. It is pretty expensive. I was not blown away by the food. I definitely felt the food was quality but could have been more tasty. The raw snickers was the best thing I tried. The lasagna was good and would order again. I would never get a wrap again, and the bowls were ok. Since they are vegan I have to recommend them but be ready to spend some cash.

Great place to come and chill. Relaxing vibes and great menu choices. Good vegan options which I am happy about and the food was very filling. Their hot chocolate can also be made vegan and it actually tastes like chocolate. Staff are friendly and the place seems very clean and new looking. Also hygiene is very good and staff wear disposable gloves when serving up food.

Gló is a delicious restaurant in Reykjavik that is vegetarian friendly , reasonably priced, has a good atmosphere, and very fresh high quality and healthy food. We had a great lunch there and would highly recommend it to anybody. The vegan lasagna was a highlight, and they also give free unlimited hummus , which is a huge plus. If you are in Reykjavik and want a healthy, hearty, tasty meal , go to Gló

Such delicious food. I was pretty stoked to find out about it. I’m vegan and can have problems finding food while traveling. Then I found this place and I had multiple options!!! You mean I have to decide between all the deliciousness? No way, I’ll just come back multiple days and try many things. I had the Mediterranean bowl one day and the Indian Dahl another. The Mediterranean was my favorite. Good portion sizes and decent price.

Relatively inexpensive in the context of Reykjavík prices. We tried the Mexican wrap, the veggie burger and the Mexican bowl (with oumph! made of beans) and all of them were top notch. The atmosphere is really chilled it was easy to find a table (except at peak time). Excellent food!
Lewis — Google review
I loved the freshness of the vegetables here, but the food felt less substantial than we'd hoped, especially for the price. The atmosphere is nice and the food does taste good, it's just not the greatest value in town (noting that Reykjavik is expensive as is). The bowls seem to be a better value than the burgers, so if you go, get a bowl!

Perlan, also known as the Pearl, is a futuristic glass-domed structure located on Oskjuhlidh Hill in Reykjavik, Iceland. Its primary function is to house towering geothermally-heated hot water tanks that provide warmth to the city's residents.
Great place to spend a few hours learning more about this fabulous country!!! The exhibits are very nice. The lava and glacier exhibits are fun! The restaurant has delicious food and the dining area rotates slowly! The views from the observation deck are breathtakingly beautiful. Love from Kentucky! Get tickets early!!!

Very pleasantly surprised! We spent there three hours without even knowing. Volcano show (both) as well as aurora show are incredible. Lots of other interactive stuff. And oh yes, the ice cave. We also enjoyed good cup of coffee in the cafe.
Tereza P — Google review
Perlan is a charming and educational place to learn about Iceland. While the building looks quite large from the outside, the exhibits inside feel more medium-sized, perfect for a visit that lasts a few hours to half a day. It's interactive, with engaging exhibitions and a great planetarium experience. There’s also a café and restaurant, and the rooftop offers beautiful panoramic views of Reykjavik. The only downside wasn’t the venue itself, but some visitors who disregarded the clearly stated rules, like not using phones or cameras in certain exhibits, even after staff reminders. That said, it’s definitely worth a visit, just remember to be respectful and follow the rules!

A very impressive and modern museum! There’s a lot of interesting information about Iceland’s volcanoes, glaciers, icebergs, and natural wonders, all presented in an interactive and engaging way. Some of the immersive videos are truly stunning. One of the highlights is the simulation ride where you stand on a platform surrounded by screens and experience what it’s like to travel through a volcano and witness an eruption — very exciting and well done. Another must-see is the ice cave made of real ice and snow, which gives a unique sense of what it’s like inside a glacier. Overall, a great mix of education and entertainment, perfect for both adults and children. Definitely worth a visit while in Reykjavík!

We received a free entry voucher with our welcome pack from our holiday operator so used it on the last evening on our recent trip to Iceland and we were glad we did. The museum offers various exhibitions all of which are very well presented by and informative. Loved the them all but especially the 'new' lava show that takes you on a journey in to the heart of a volcano and shoots you out with an eruption, not to be missed if you get the chance to visit

GREAT ! Fantastic museum with lava show and new interactive lava show so fun we did it twice. Watch the northern lights in the planetarium. Fantastic ice cave is good fun. Only down side quite hard to find when walking as not sign posted and it's still dark at 9.30 am in November. Definitely worth going x

We came here after a recommendation from our city walking tour guide. We’re so glad we did. This museum is really well thought out. It gives in depth information on the history of Iceland, volcanoes and glaciers. Took me back to my A level geography lessons! The exhibitions are great; inside the volcano, the ice cave and the northern lights planetarium. Highly recommend all of them. Views from the upper platform are so good with the snowy mountains in the distance. Staff are lovely. Parking is free and toilets were clean. Thanks for having us :)

If you go to Reykjavík make sure to include this on your itinerary! Wonderful views across the city from the revolving cafe, impressive immersive experiences - The Northern Lights and (the new) Into to the Volcano - really stood out. If you are lucky you might also see a rabbit or two who live in ‘centrally heated’ burrows in the surrounding forest.

Fish Company in Reykjavik is a seafood restaurant that offers an exceptional dining experience. Located in a charming cellar, the restaurant provides a warm and inviting atmosphere suitable for various occasions. The establishment prides itself on using the freshest Icelandic ingredients to create innovative dishes inspired by global cuisines. The walls are adorned with maps, reflecting the culinary journey patrons are about to embark upon.
Definitely worth visiting for the food as both taste and presentation were on point. This was the perfect first dinner here in Iceland! We got: - Mango Madness (mocktail) - Iceland LOVAGE (appetizer) - Iceland FISH (main) - Netherlands CHIVE (main) - Denmark PISTACHIO (dessert) Personally, the Iceland FISH main course was the highlight as there are three different fishes cooked three different ways. There was thoughtful preparation (in both pairing and sizing) to all the dishes. The choice of ingredients held true to the regional themes as well.

Absolute perfection! The best restaurant in Reykjavik, by far. The lobster soup is divine. Didn’t eat anything closer as good as this one in my life. The fish is perfect, the dessert crazy! Perfect served, ambiance was more than you think, 6 out of 5 stars!

We ordered the Iceland Fish, Italy Garlic, and a 14-piece sushi set to share among three of us. The portions were generous, and every dish was delicious. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was lovely. That said, the prices were rather steep, but overall, it was still an enjoyable dining experience.

I am a seafood lover, and the dinner I had here was one of the best meals I’ve had all year. Absolutely incredible flavors, super fresh and high quality ingredients. We had the cod starter we had was perfectly prepared and the flavor bomb of pickled apples and cabbage surprised us. The scallop and slate dish was creative and very well balanced. Then we had the fish of the day trio, each fish had a clean taste clearly showcasing how very fresh the food was. They also gave us amuse bouche, house made bread with cultured butter and granola. It was actually less expensive than many not so great meals we had in Iceland. The service was on point, professional and thoughtful. I would recommend fish company to anyone going to Reykjavik.

It was late, which one may not realize until it is too late because it stays daylight for so long. Hard to find a decent restaurant that would still be open, have space and provide a quality meal. The Fish Company – we almost did not find it as the map seemed to suggest the entry on the other side – was a wonderful jewel: Very personable staff, great menu choices and super-delicious food, beautifully presented and on point.

An unforgettable dining experience! I had dinner at The Fish Company(Fiskfélagið), and it was absolutely amazing! The dishes are creative and full of delightful surprises, with ingredients and flavors from different parts of the world that blend beautifully together. My favourite dish was definitely the reindeer carpaccio. The combination of hazelnuts, Parmigiano, and blueberry compote was just extraordinary, each bite was an explosion of flavor! The main course, pan-fried lamb rib eye with pressed side lamb, was also fabulous, though the starter truly stole the show. A special shout-out to Eva, one of the waitresses, who made our evening even better. She was so sweet, attentive, and full of energy, always checking in on every table, clearing dishes promptly, and refilling our bottles without us needing to ask. She even surprised us with some cute little duckies and told us they were only for her favorite guests, such a lovely touch! We had a wonderful time at The Fish Company and will definitely come back the next time we visit Iceland. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

Superb place for seafood lovers! The ingredients were so fresh and the food has been meticulously prepared. We loved all the dishes and thought they were packed full of flavour, yet had a nice balance. We ordered the Fish Festival 3-meal course, and had the Iceland Fish and Italy Garlic. They were so good that we devoured everything! The lobster soup was really delicious. It was very creamy, the broth was rich, and the wolffish was pan fried really well. One of the best soup I ever had! The Arctic Char was fascinating, and the slow-cooked nature was the first of its kind I ever tried in Iceland. Finally, the tiramisu was a perfect end to the 3-course meal. It was creamy, and the ladyfingers were well-soaked with espresso. The Lobster Salad (main) had a great mix of fresh vegetables and deep fried langoustine. The generous Parmigiano Reggiano really brought the dish together. Finally, the Fish Trio of the Day (Iceland Fish) had a nice serving of 3 fishes. The ling was very juicy and succulent and we loved it greatly. However, we found the smoked haddock too salty for our liking. There were also a few bones in the filet, though we understand that it is difficult to ensure the filet is free from bones. Overall, the experience here was wonderful. The staff were amazing and attentive, and we will definitely come again next time we are in Iceland.

Slippbarinn is a trendy drinking spot located within the Icelandair Marina hotel, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with a long wooden bar, designer barstools, and large windows overlooking the harbor. The bar is known for its high-quality drinks, including ever-changing cocktails made from fresh local ingredients and house-made syrups. In addition to five beers on tap, good wines, and a selection of gin and rum, the menu features steak burgers and catch of the day.
What a wonderful establishment! Not only was I greeted right when I walked in the door our food was timely supported as well as Aran the bartender was immaculate. She was knowledgeable, kind and so quick with her service definitely will be coming back and definitely five star.

Love the place aesthetically and good service but the fish of the day is bad. Everything boiled from fish to potatoes which were soggy. Carrots undercooked. I hope it improves as I’d be willing to one day try again as I like the location.
Nick W — Google review
Unfortunately, the restaurant staff could use some hospitality training. I sat down around 1 pm with my laptop and a small pastry I’d bought elsewhere, planning to order a coffee. Even though the restaurant was completely empty, I was immediately asked to leave. In the end, I decided not to stay or order anything — that’s not the kind of attitude guests expect in a hotel restaurant. If people were actually dining, I’d understand, but when it’s empty, this kind of behavior just feels unwelcoming.
Alex E — Google review
The staff at Slippbarinn are so friendly and accommodating. I had an early bus (not enough time to do the whole buffet), so I asked for something to go and the host explained that since it was buffet only, I could just grab a pastry on the house. Not to mention the pastry was delicious! It’s a great atmosphere and I would definitely recommend Slippbarinn and the Reykjavík Marina hotel.

Not sure if my cousin’s wife asked for a private room or staged a polite coup in Icelandic. Either way, we got one — and honestly, it felt like VIP treatment. The staff rolled with it like pros and set us up with a beautiful spread of breads, cheeses, and meats that looked like it belonged in a magazine. Service was spot on — friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Five stars, no hesitation.

We had a pretty good experience at this cocktail bar and restaurant. We called in a reservation which is always good. We were greeted right away, but just from observing you could see they were having issues with service. Many tables looking to order or for tabs. We stayed. The host was a champ, stepping up getting things started. Craft cocktails were creative, tasty and eye-catching. We had the fresh fish in a pan and steak sandwich, both great selections. The fish did was fresh and exceptional. Our guests had burgers. They were good but had had spicier sauce on them not noted on the menu. It worked out. Overall a good experience but no real great connection to the place or staff. This place is located down by the water in Reykjavik downtown.

We love the fish of the day in pan which is the cod that day, and the seafood soup with shrimp scallops. Cosmopolitan is quite ok, the dessert chocolate cake is even better than expectation as normally it would be so sweet but not for this one. Not 5 stars just because of the price, and the waiter didn’t remind that the hotel guest can have 10% off.

Ramen Momo, established in 2014 by Kunsang Tsering and Erna Petursdottir, is the sole ramen station in Iceland that produces organic fresh noodles. The restaurant sources most of its ingredients from local markets. It's a popular spot for lunch with a great offer and is conveniently located near the Old Reykjavik Harbour, making it an ideal choice before or after Whale Watching Tours.
Had a great dinner for two here. The staff was very friendly and food came out quickly. We had the two vegan miso ramens and the vegan dumplings. Everything was well cooked and tasted good. Note: if you’re coming from the USA, the flavor might be a little muted but overall the food tastes good.

The ramen was the best ramen I’ve ever had anywhere! I came back to have it again because it was so good. I had the tori, chashu, and gyoza during my visits there. Highly recommend! The staff is excellent and attentive as well.
Megan E — Google review
Decent ramen, but it had a very strong wheat taste. The broth was ok, it was much better with the “extra spicy” option to add flavor and depth. Good portion. Chicken was tender and good. Very small inside and can be hard to get a seat.
Korbin W — Google review
we were coming back to the city late after a long day, and this was the perfect little spot to eat at. it takes about 10 minutes to get your food, and you are seated either outside or inside at the bar (no alcohol). wide selection of ramen with lots of sides. the noodles and broth were very flavorful, staff were also really nice. the kitchen is small, they make the food right in front of you. even passing by the outside, it smells really good. limited seating, but it clears up relatively quickly. don’t miss the water station in the corner!
Bella C — Google review
If you’re craving an authentic ramen experience, this little spot is an absolute gem. The seating area is small and cozy, true to the style of traditional ramen shops—you really get that intimate, no-frills vibe which makes the whole experience feel genuine. Despite the modest space, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff were friendly, and attentive. Now, onto the star of the show—the food. The ramen here was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and flavorful, noodles are hand made, and toppings fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Every bite was satisfying. The gyoza was some of the best I had. Overall, definitely be coming back. Highly recommended.
Adairsau — Google review
Cool place, super small at this location, seating for 8 only making it more cozy and intimate. The ramen soup base was perfect, not too fatty and the noodles are hand made and perfectly cooked. The chashu pork was grilled on one side giving it a little tasty crunch.
Sonny W — Google review
This place was recommended in different online forums and highly rated but not even close to being worth it. It’s absurdly expensive for the amount of food you actually get. I don’t know if my partner and I got the tourist serving but the bowl was a normal size ramen bowl and only about a quarter of it was full. The ramen was just ok. No depth to the broth and noodles were fine. Do not get the “extra spicy” as there is zero spice even after adding the entire paste. I know Iceland is expensive, but $72 dollars for 2 bowls of ramen and 2 sodas is robbery. I would highly recommend going somewhere else this place is not worth it at all.

Cozy place with nice options for breakfast/brunch. There are only a few seats so you might need to wait. Personally I didn't like the coffee but my wife did. Not the cheapest place but okay for Iceland. Worth trying (Cuban sandwich was very good).

Cute little café with an americanized menu and nice decór. Good breakfast options. The place has very few tables, so you might have to wait. I would not say it's cheap, however one has to consider that Iceland is expensive.

Small place, not worth waiting 20min outside and 1 hour for simple breakfast. I wasn't in the rush, but still didn't plan to spend 2 hours to have 2 fried egg and cup of coffee. Coffee was good when its arrived after 15min. Waiters was nice but looked very tired, when you have such a busy place, why not to employ one more person. Plus prices is like Iceland - unique. Small breakfast £30 without Coffee. Give 4 only for hard working staff.

We've only been here for 3 days and this is our 3rd time in. We enjoy the espresso so much, we went ahead and got a stamp card, since we'll be here another week. The menu is small, the food is simple, and you can't go wrong. If you only stop in once, make sure you get pancakes! And if you're really hungry (or sharing) go for the infamous The Truck. A lovely little hole-in-the wall to fuel up in for a big day.
Daniel M — Google review
👍Overall 10/10. ⚠️The place is quite popular so once the tables are full, you have to wait outside on the bench. However, inside is super cute and the food is very good. Typical Iceland prices where I paid $55 for a breakfast that would’ve been $24 in the states but I learned to just close my eyes for the bill on this island and enjoy the trip 🫣😅

Good little breakfast spot Great hot chocolate. Fresh squeezed oj is a bit sour. Pancake flavor was not as good as I hoped and they are super thick and dense. Portions are huge so plan to share… fairly small and guessing maybe seating for 30 people ish. Was a line when they opened for us but only a few tables deep. Order at the counter after they admit you to choose a seat.
TravelR — Google review
Celiacs beware! Other reviews say there are gluten free options, by this they mean you can modify the meal by removing any bread. However, there is not a substitute gluten free bread or pancake. So only come here if you simply want eggs and potatoes. I ordered a gluten free order of Eggs & Bacon. To make it gluten free they removed the toast and gave me an extra egg. Except- when the order came out there were huge pieces of bread on the plate touching every food item. It seems the cook is the one that brought it out and when I asked if it was gluten free she was confused and asked me if I had ordered gluten free to which I said yes. Then she took the plate in the back, a few minutes later- not nearly as long as it took for the food to come out the first time, she came back with a plate that looked exactly the same except the bread had been removed. The food was what you would expect. The eggs tasted like eggs. The potatoes had a nice crispy shell. And the bacon was very good but some may think it salty. The homemade hot sauce was good, not too spicy and slightly sweet- might not be to everyone’s taste. The service is fine, you have to go up to the counter to order and pay. Wait staff does not come to the table except to drop off food. That said I was very impressed by the staff, there was one person managing seating people, taking orders, processing payment, making beverages (barista), and all with a kindly manner. The space is VERY cozy, sort of an underground bookstore cafe with warm/dark mood lighting. Lots of red and mustard yellow aesthetic. Clientele was causal, familial, and mixed. Kitchen is Soy (Soya) free.

Garðurinn is a popular vegetarian restaurant located in Reykjavik's city center, offering a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. It was the first establishment in the city to have a purely vegetarian menu. The cafe changes its specials daily, serving up delicious soups, curries, and tarts. There are always vegan and gluten-free options available. The staff members are known for meditating and studying the teachings of Sri Chimnoy.
This place is exactly what it advertises to be: A home-cooked meal enjoyed low-key and relaxed at a kitchenette table. Make sure to check online what dish and soup they have that day. That’s it. No other options (aside from beverages and some desserts). The food is cooked with love and care and is both flavorful and filling. I went here three times in one week and enjoyed what I had. Also, they just had their 24th anniversary!! Congratulations!! Here is to another 24 years ❤️🙏🏻.

Kex Hostel Reykjavik is a trendy accommodation option that offers laid-back dorms and private rooms. Located in the Old Harbour neighborhood, it provides a tranquil setting with design-forward interiors and friendly service. The hostel features a gastropub, communal kitchens, and a patio for guests to enjoy. Housed in a former biscuit factory, Kex is known for its popular bar where both international tourists and locals socialize over crafted cocktails and local lagers.
I spent a week in Iceland, all but one night at Kex, and this quirky and fun hostel was one of the highlights. The location is fantastic, walking distance to downtown pubs and restaurants. The building is old but this is part of its charm- sort of a cross between a Chicago speakeasy and a Berlin style nightclub and a Serbian dorm room. Breakfast is very filling and the beer selection is decent. The best though, is the live music events and the courtyard in the back. Great place where tourists and Icelanders can chat and mix during those events.
E. O — Google review
It's my second time staying at Kex. Rooms are clean, bedding is comfy and clean. Bathrooms and showers are a little dated and worn. It's a great location and construction work next door does not impact guests at all. In general, they've committed to that worn, vintage aesthetic instead of the usual hotel pristine look. Which is why I may take some of the cleanliness comments with a grain of salt. Shower was cleaned regularly during my stay and I always encountered housekeeping doing something. Breakfast is ok, but I wouldn't rave about it. Common areas depend a lot on other guests cleaning after themselves, and one fridge on my floor stoped working.
Gerardo M — Google review
The Location of the Hostel is really nice with a nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants nearby, supermarkets were just at 2 minutes walk, high street was also 2 min walk away with lot of shopping options, the promenade was right opposite the hostel with great views. All the Tour Operators pick up points were nearby so we did not have to pay anything extra for hotel pickup. Reception was operated 24*7 so there was someone available to get information or answer any questions. The vibe of the hostel was very lively with a nice bar on the 1st Floor with great views of the promenade and the lake. Every place that we wanted to explore in Reykjavík was at a walkable distance from the hostel.

I think this was the best hostel Ive ever been to. I dont think the property is the owner’s first project or even ownerS. The theme is very fun, they made the environment feel safe yet able to feel like I can interact with the other guests. Its at a great location. I would most definitely come back! Worth the money especially knowing Iceland but the only downside was that not being provided with a towel was a bit…unexpected. But either than that it was good.

Upgraded my room last minute. Very attentive via email. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were happy to help with bus organising and even helped us out by Keeping our medication in the fridge. Location is brilliant, in walking distance to bus stops, shops, restaurants.

It's a hostel which worked well for me. I opted for the 4 person room. Plenty of bathrooms and showers. Never personally had to wait, but I was there in November. Adequate kitchen which also worked well for me. Rooms/bathrooms cleaned daily. Seems like every major site / pickup spot (tours frequently leave from bus stops) was within 20 minutes walk, so I walked everywhere around town. Would definitely stay here again.
Steve H — Google review
Iceland is expensive, but KEX offers an alternative if you're looking for a deal and don't mind sharing a bathroom. I booked two private rooms for my group and thought we had private bathrooms, but I now think that all rooms share the communal bathrooms. There are a couple private shower rooms, if you're lucky to snag one (get up early). Towels are included with the private rooms, but not if you're in a dorm room. The breakfast has a wide variety and looks good, but we didn't eat here. The airport bus transfer stops close by, so it's easy to reach KEX. The front desk staff were very friendly and lovely to interact with.

Enjoyed our stay at Kex, which was in a private room with a private bathroom and a sofabed, sleeping up to 4 in total. Although it was on the second floor, and adjacent to an outdoor sitting area, it was quiet most of the time. The construction from next door barely made it through the windows when they were closed. The room, with the sofa opened to a bed, was a bit tight to get around, but we weren't in the room much, and of course the the sofa can be closed. The mattresses were excellent and the 1 duvet per person is a nice touch. The staff was very helpful, and parking was manageable. In total for 3 days, I believe the total was around $20. There is a lot of character to the building. It is a hostel, but we chose the private rooms - nevertheless we had access to the shared kitchen, which was fully stocked, and most helpful as eating out is generally overpriced. We shopped at Bonus, which had some reasonably priced staples. Overall, we'd highly recommend Kex to anyone looking for a good location downtown in Reykjavik.

Bergsson Mathús is a popular café near Tjornin Lake, founded by experienced chef Thorir Bergsson. The focus here is on serving hearty and healthy meals made with local and seasonal ingredients. The menu includes chia porridge, oatmeal muesli, smoothies for breakfast, as well as homemade breads, cakes, soups, oven-baked tandooris, Vietnamese pancakes, and lasagnas for lunch and dinner.
Listen, the bacon alone makes this place 5 star... Short of the bacon, which may or may not have been life changing, this place is an easy 4.5+. It is Iceland, so for a traveler the price is higher than comparable places elsewhere, however for the price the brunch and grilled sourdough we're priced very fairly, if not below market. The food was delicious and the coffee was as good as the 4 coffee houses within walking distance but slightly cheaper, though fewer options which probably helps with the cost/quality. The staff was helpful, spoke several languages, offered suggestions, and provided food and drinks in a very speedy manner for as crowded it is on this rainy day.

Quiet little place, came for breakfast. Bergsson Breakfast 2290. Yogurt with muesli and berry jam, very delicious. Perfect soft boiled egg. Help yourself to hummus, jam and peanut butter. Lovely plate of food. Really friendly.

This place saved us after a overnight flight into Reykjavík. One of the the only restaurants open early. The bonus—their food is great! You place your order at the counter, and sit where you like. There’s a coffee station, so once you’ve ordered you can go back for refills. The salmon is AMAZING! And there’s something for every budget. Staff is friendly and attentive. Thinking it’s a locals joint, as clientele seems to know each other.

We had a nice but very pricey breakfast here. Love the fresh sourdough bread and Chia pudding with berry compote. The decor is lovely!

Definitely a must go if I go back to Iceland. Cute little breakfast place with the best breakfast in Iceland. Plus it opens really early so if you arrive at 5am and need some breakfast, I would head over to Bergsson Mathus to eat and then walk over to Bonus supermarket afterwards to stock up on some Iceland snacks.

Amazing retreat that provides large portions of deeply nourishing meals. Sourdough bread is superb. Staff is very friendly, excellent quiet contemplative atmosphere.

Food was alright but not amazing as some reviews stated. We ordered the Bread Plate and Grilled Sour doughbread with avocado and smoked salmon. Food was simple but fresh. This place does seem overpriced; we never had to pay so much for breakfast. Conveniently located, bit hard to find parking and crowded for breakfast when we were there.

Had an open faced sandwich for breakfast and a latte (this is not Starbucks people, legit coffee). The sandwich cake with a crunchy and flavorful slaw and tomato salad. So glad we stopped as our first breakfast in Iceland. Can’t wait to return one day.
