Icelandic restaurant
Restaurant
Icelandic Street Food is a cozy local cafe that serves up a variety of hearty Icelandic comfort dishes in a cheerful atmosphere. One must-try dish is the Plokkfiskur, a fish stew with boiled potatoes and bechamel, best enjoyed with buttered rugbraudh (dark rye bread). The menu also includes shellfish soup, traditional lamb soup, rhubarb-oatmeal crumble pie called hjonabandssaela, and pancakes.
We tried lamb soup and spicy tomato soup, both were good. You can refill bread bowl for free. Fish stew was good too. Also free waffles with jam, they are amazing. The cafe has very interesting concept, you can leave a coin from your country and take one that you like from the box.
Alexandra D — Google review
Free refills, free waffles, cozy and warm place, super friendly staff, what more can you ask for. I recommend the lamb and shellfish soup. Prefer the bowl only as the bread bowl absorbs all the delicious soup!
Wan C — Google review
I came here just after arriving in town, a little jet lagged and very hungry. I got the soup in a bread bowl and had three servings - tomato, lamb and seafood. I liked them all, but I preferred them in the order listed. Next time I would probably get a regular bowl with bread on the side, because with each serving the structural integrity of the bread bowl deteriorated. The free waffles were a nice touch!
Amy J — Google review
If you are on a budget in Iceland, then this place is a good spot to come for a meal - though I would probably only come once. They offer three types of soup: lamb, tomato and seafood, and a few other items. Soup appears to be what most people order, and you can get unlimited free refills of any of them so you can try all three if you want. They are pretty watery so don't expect a stew-like consistency. Personally I didn't like the seafood one - there weren't any "pieces" of seafood in it, it was only broth. The lamb was the heartiest with chunks of lamb, carrots and potatoes. The tomato was much what you would expect from tomato soup. The atmosphere is cool - the servers are nice enough and the place is bright and comfortable. You don't feel any pressure to move on in a hurry. Free waffles with chocolate sauce and free water are a bonus. Now that I've been and know what to expect, I won't come again but it's worth at least one visit for a reasonably-priced meal in Reykjavik which are few and far between!
Ana M — Google review
Excellent soup. I had the lamb soup several times, it never disappointed. You also got free refills. You always walked out satisfied and full. Added bonus....FREE WAFFLES with blueberry jam.
Danny B — Google review
The food was great. We ordered a sheep soup and a shellfish soup, both served in bread bowls. Each was around 3,000 ISK, and you can refill as many times as you want. Both soups tasted amazing and were perfect for the cold weather. The only small downside was that the bread was a bit cold, so the first round of soup cooled down quite fast. But on the second round, when everything was nice and hot, it was really comforting and delicious.
John L — Google review
This restaurant provides refillable soup for guests with only one-time payment. The shell fish and lamb are amazing. Staff are very warm and kind, a good place for someone who visits Iceland with limited budget.
Sz-Hsien W — Google review
Free soup refills when you get a soup bowl. If your bread bowl breaks it can be replaced by a bowl. A great place to eat on a budget. Very nice and relaxed place altogether Wouldn't recommend any of the other soups except lamb. As other reviews suggest they are lacking

Icelandic restaurant
Restaurant
Café Loki is a charming Icelandic restaurant located in downtown Reykjavik, just opposite the famous Hallgrimskirkja church. It offers traditional Icelandic fare such as fish soup, meat stew, and freshly baked rye bread. The café provides a cozy and relaxed atmosphere with a wonderful view of the cathedral. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views during sunset while trying the traditional Icelandic rye bread ice-cream known as Rugbraudh ice-cream.
At Café Loki in Reykjavík, I had the best dessert of my life rye bread ice cream with skyr cake. The rye bread ice cream has a rich, caramel flavor from toasted rye bread, topped with whipped cream and rhubarb syrup, making it a unique Icelandic treat. The skyr cake, light and tangy, complemented it perfectly. The café is located across from Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík’s iconic church. Designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, construction began in 1945 and was completed in 1986. The church’s striking architecture, inspired by Iceland’s natural landscapes, makes it a must-see landmark.

Thank you for letting us very late on Sunday evening and served us food even the kitchen was about to close. All of the food was amazing, staff was super friendly, talked us through all the menu. For me Staff always define the venue, all the dishes we try was delicious plus the views outside, perfect combination. Highly recommend!
Igor R — Google review
Amazingly well placed cafe with great coffee, super nice staff and awesome Icelandic breakfast, lunch and dinner options. I really could not fault it as it exceeded our expectations. And right in front of the beautiful Hallgrimskirkja. Full marks.

We had the priest coffee which was strong! I personally have never tried Brennivín and kind of regretted it since it was early in the day. We also tried the lamb soup and the Viking platter! The lamb soup was hearty and homemade vibes. The Viking platter honestly tastes just like it looks! Nothing amazing, just dried fish, rye bread, and the well-known fermented shark. The ammonia really hits you hard and an added double whammy with the Brennivín shot. Probably wouldn’t recommend this if you have stomach sensitivities! Haha, but a good experience nonetheless. My absolute favorite was the rye bread ice cream! I would totally recommend. I think hands-down best thing I tasted in Iceland.
Dasom — Google review
For context, we only ordered the fermented shark and rye bread ice cream. The fermented shark is actually quite good! You have to chew it for a bit and there’s an ammonia flavor at the end, but it is actually a quite mild flavor. The rye bread ice cream is very tasty. There’s a lot of rye bread mixed in (maybe 1:1 ice cream to bread ratio lol). There’s a caramel sauce over whipped cream on top. All in all, a tasty snack! Note that the portions are small!! There’s just four tiny pieces of shark (IMO that’s enough for 4 people!) and the ice cream is one small scoops worth. Total for the two was just under 3000 ISK.
Jeannie — Google review
It was my first time eating traditional Icelandic food so I was really excited. The lamb soup was huge, and comforting. The meat was tender and the soup felt like home cooking (in a good way) I read Independent People earlier this year so it really did make me feel like an Icelandic Farmer in the winter. The malt tasted like a cross between Supermalt and Dr Pepper which I enjoyed but the standout by far for me was the Rye bread. It was my first time trying it but it was amazing. Have been thinking about it ever since. The staff were super friendly too and you can see Hallsgrimska from the entrance.

Great food. We say upstairs (reccomended) for the view of the church and cool mural with loki history. Great food and dessert and wonderful service. I had lamb and cod and carrots cake was just divine. Great traditional food in great location. Truly a unique little spot worth the price will go again
Brent Z — Google review
A nice small restaurant. This was the only place where we ate out during our stay in Iceland and we were happy with it. The lamb soup is really good and I recommend it. If possible, sit further away from the front door, otherwise you will have to endure cold air whenever someone is coming or leaving.

Icelandic restaurant
Restaurant
Grillmarkaðurinn, also known as the Grill Market, is a renowned culinary destination in Iceland that prides itself on using fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and suppliers. The restaurant's interior seamlessly blends contemporary style with natural elements like moss and basalt, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Founded by acclaimed chefs Hrefna Ros Saetran and Gudhlaugur P.
We had such a great dining experience here! The food was great, we ordered a tasting menu and every course was delicious. Our server Vicky was super attentive and lovely. Loved this! Plus it was my mother’s birthday and we got a great plate for the birthday with some deserts.
Oleksandra P — Google review
An unforgettable dinner at Grillmarkaðurinn! We went for the 8-course tasting menu and every dish was a masterpiece – beautifully presented, bursting with flavour, and Michelin-quality. For my husband’s birthday, we got complimentary champagne and a dessert with a light fountain – such a lovely touch! Special thanks to our amazing waitress, Raquel, who went above and beyond and made the evening even more special. A true credit to the restaurant. Yes, it’s pricey, but this is Iceland – and the quality, creativity, and service make it worth every krona.
Wiola A — Google review
This is rated as the best restaurant in Reykjavík and no doubt it’s the most upscale restaurant in town. I had vegan steak which was unbelievably good. The service was amazing. She made us feel like home. I came here to celebrate my birthday. She surprised me with champagne and sweets. Just wonderful. Also the ambience is so romantic. This is a place where you definitely want to try at least one time especially if you come here for any celebration or… maybe… proposal. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again.

The best meal I've ever had. The restaurant is beautiful with highly attentive staff who explain the best way to eat your chosen dishes and what best accompanies them. The food was absolutely exquisite and the portions were much bigger than I thought they'd be. Can honestly say this is the best food I've ever eaten.

Upscale restaurant with beautiful decoration. Excellent menu with plenty of unique selection. Food overall was good. Expect to paid a higher price from this premium location.

My daughter and I had a lovely dinner, the ambience was very nice, service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The crispy duck salad, smoked artichoke char and salmon were delicious. I wish I could remember the name of the young woman who served us- she was absolutely delightful.
Kelley M — Google review
On our final day in Iceland, we went to this place. We were fortunate to get a table for two, but I’d suggest making a reservation. We tried the 6-course tasting menu, which was a fantastic way to sample a variety of Icelandic dishes. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and the restaurant’s interior was truly a masterpiece—it had such an aesthetic vibe.
Bazz P — Google review
23-10-25 Amazing restaurant, the manager Paul was very professional. Gave us drinks on the house, due to the wait for our table. They were fantastic. Love the food here! I had the salmon. A bit pricey for the little condiments. I attended the location again the 24, and the portion sizes of the salmon, presentation, drinks were diffident from the day previous day. Staff also didn't know what was available as for bread, and Tabasco... he had to ask a fellow waitress. When we received the bread it was dry and the waiter said that was all available, but miraculously they "found" more. I all, I would return to this location.

101 Reykjavik Street Food is a cozy eatery located in the heart of Reykjavik, offering a small but delightful menu featuring meat, veggie, and seafood soups along with fried fish. The highlight of their menu is the delicious and rich lobster soup that has won over many visitors. Additionally, this street food market operates seasonally on Saturdays from July to August at Fogetagardhur Square, where tourists can savor various foods like pulled pork and burgers.
We had our first dinner here and we were absolutely impressed. It may not look like much but give it a shot. Located right on rainbow road this place has the BEST fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life. We sat upstairs and quickly knew we wanted fish and chips. They came out fast. Sauces are on a table upstairs you can use and you share with others and free water on the table too you can help yourself to. The fish was cooked perfectly and not fishy at all. The best Cod ever. So fresh, crispy, but not too battered or fried. The fries were tasty and well seasoned. I’d come back again if I was here longer!
Steph S — Google review
The prices are very reasonable, but the food was disappointing. The beef noodle soup was far too salty, and the fish stew tasted more like a sour tuna salad than what I expected from an Icelandic fish stew. The Icelandic traditional lamb soup was the only dish that felt authentic and tasted fine. Overall, most dishes were simply too salty.
Andrea — Google review
It's a cute place to grab a bite while sight seeing in Reykjavik. It was right in between two places I needed to be and I had not yet had my monthly fish I am allowed to have. The fish and chips were good. The fish was flaky and juicy while the batter was nice and crispy. The price is average for Reykjavik but high for people from the US! The atmosphere was okay, nothing special, but the employees were friendly and gave decent service.
Fit G — Google review
This place worked out pretty great for our group of 14. The staff was very helpful in getting the tables and everything set up for us and we didn’t have to wait long at all. As far as the food goes, the fish and chips were great… the batter had a slight curry taste, which was different, but delicious! We wanted the beef noodle soup, but unfortunately they were out, so we got the chicken noodle soup instead. I would not recommend the soup. Overall, I would revisit here.
Kaela S — Google review
This bright yellow restaurant is located on Reykjavík’s famous Rainbow Street, one of the city’s popular tourist spots. After finishing a day of sightseeing, I visited the restaurant for an early dinner around 6 p.m. It’s basically a table-service restaurant, but water and cutlery are self-serve. We ordered the lobster soup and the fish & chips. The lobster soup was served in a deep bowl, but at first glance, it was hard to tell if there was any lobster in it. When I scooped it up with a spoon, I found only a few small pieces of shellfish—so small that it was difficult to tell whether they were lobster or shrimp—and the appearance was quite different from the photos. Unfortunately, the flavor also lacked any real hint of lobster. I couldn’t help but think that a regular seafood soup might have been more satisfying. The fish & chips were also served in a bowl. The fried fish had a light, crispy batter with tender, juicy white fish inside. The fries were crispy and perfectly cooked—very satisfying overall. However, serving them in a bowl made cutting the fish rather difficult; a plate might have been more practical (though of course I respect the restaurant’s serving style). It’s a casual spot, so it could be a good choice for a relaxed, easygoing meal.
HiDe86 — Google review
We got some fish and chips here and both were really good. The fish especially is incredibally tasty and fresh. The fries are also great (not chip shop chips like in the UK). We got them to take away as we were staying near by, the seating was up stairs so you would get a nice view of the rainbow street. The food was very pricey but it is Reykjavik!
Bill B — Google review
Terrific street food here at 101 Reykjavik. Order the local soup stew fare or some noodle soups and it'll heat your cold selves. Amazing staff, some of whom are Filipinos, too. Super friendly staff! It has a simple interior, but ample space in the 2nd floor, and it works with the concept. One of my happiest meals in Iceland during my trip October 2024. Sorry this is quite late a review but better late than never! Salamat po, mga Pinoy staff. Excellent service as ever.
Abe C — Google review
I enjoyed my fish and chips. The cod was soft & tasty and the batter nice & crispy full of flavour. It was served with diced lettuce & a slice of lemon. The spicy mayonnaise sauce to go with the fish was good too. I don't agree with serving the dish in a small bowl. It makes it alot more tricky to eat and it affects the overall flavour as the chips & lettuce were the bed for the cod fillets. We sat upstairs which was great as it was spacious & quiet.

Icelandic restaurant
Old Iceland is a family-run restaurant located on Laugavegur in Reykjavik, offering traditional Icelandic dishes made from locally sourced produce. Established in 2014 by three brothers, the eatery has gained a reputation for its dedication to highlighting Icelandic ingredients such as wild mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, and fresh seafood. The menu features dishes that showcase the culinary history of Iceland and are beautifully presented.
I recently visited this family owned restaurant and was incredibly impressed with the experience. It's located on one of the main streets in Reykjavik. The ambiance was cozy, casual, and chic, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The food was delicious, from the bread and cod cheek appetizer to the lamb ribeye and filet of cod for the main course. I particularly enjoyed their signature cocktail with Brevinnim, where the caraway was not overpowering; I also noted a subtle caraway flavor in the filet of cod. Additionally, the staff were very friendly.

Walked past this restaurant & saw it was busy but we took a chance and got seated right away for us three. We ordered the lamb, artic fish, salmon tartar and rhubarb cake for dessert and everything was..DELICIOUS! We finished every bite. It felt like a genuine taste of traditional Icelandic food but with a modern and chic taste. Restaurant was lively and although service was between two people, they kept up with the busy atmosphere. Lucky that we stumbled across this place but it was the best dish of the trip!
Vida R — Google review
Phenomenal dishes served by this lovely restaurant. The Creamy Shellfish Soup is perhaps their best dish. It was very rich, full of flavour, and the ingredients were fresh. We wish they gave us more! The Pan Fried Arctic Char was equally amazing. The skin was crispy, but the fish retained its moisture. The sauce that accompanied it was very creative. It was a peanut butter based, and was very viscous. Together with the crushed peanuts and the accompanying vegetables, we thought it was a very well thought out dish. The Fillet of Ling was also delicious. The fish itself was incredibly well cooked and the white wine and tindur cheese sauce was very well paired. Definitely an incredible restaurant, and reservations are recommended as it was perpetually full the whole time we were there.
Nahshon — Google review
This restaurant is extremely popular—always full and often with a line out the door during peak hours. Around 6 p.m., we went without a reservation, expecting to wait, but luckily we were seated right away. We ordered the creamy shellfish soup, pan-fried Arctic char, and fillet of cod. The shellfish soup was rich and packed with the deep flavor of seafood, perfectly warming us on a chilly evening. The Arctic char was beautifully cooked—juicy on the inside with crispy skin that added a delightful contrast in texture. The cod was also tender and fluffy, paired wonderfully with a rich, flavorful sauce. The service was quick and attentive, making for a truly pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Icelandic cuisine.

Friends recommend Old Iceland and we go to try in our Iceland trip. Foods are delicious, especially the lamb, juicy and soft. We ordered the fish soup which tastes good, not too salty, compared with the restaurants we have eaten. Most restaurants cooked the soup too salty. Price! please don’t compare with the other countries 😓.

Our favorite meal of our trip. Everything from soup to dessert was outstanding. You definitely get what you pay for, the quality is noticeable. Staff was super friendly and gave great suggestions. The mushroom soup was AMAZING. All of the entrees were memorable and had great flavor profiles. Go here!!
Lilly M — Google review
Basket of bread with butter: butter was good but bread was cold!! Why ..?? Entrees: Mussel salad - vegie was amazingly/suprosingly fresh and the vinegret a good match. Mussel not bad with nice spicy, peppery fresh mouth watering over layer. Smoked lamb tartar is a must try with a really smoky but also sauer background while the onion gave it spiciness. Mains: Cod with sauerkraut..excellent!! The deep fried onions were not good. Arctic char with skin on a sauce that i liked. Cauliflower on side and under the Char a good choice. Not sure if they were pickled or fresh n baked. Lamb was tender, tasted well though a bit salty. I did not like the tomato/ketchup sauce. Wine card is adequate and matches greatly to the menu. I missed an alcohol free wine though. Glasses were not in good condition. Staff was stressed and a third waiter would make everything better for everyone.
Harabuhji — Google review
The seafood chowder was excellent, my wife and I had the lamb and it was very tasty, the side vegetables were also excellent. Had the rhubarb cake for desert and it was refreshingly different a definite recommend. Also all the drinks were top notch The staff was super efficient and at the same time never did we feel rushed Went back the next night to get the rhubarb cake for desert….to quote my wife “I have been dreaming of it all day!!!!” Excellent desert

Fish Company is by far my favorite restaurant in Reykjavik. We tried the Gourmet Feast, a 5-course journey full of flavors – from grilled ling and reindeer carpaccio to beef tenderloin and a fantastic piña colada crème caramel dessert. Every dish was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. My girlfriend had the sushi platter, which was just as impressive. Highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a real food experience in Iceland.

Definitely worth visiting for the food as both taste and presentation were on point. This was the perfect first dinner here in Iceland! We got: - Mango Madness (mocktail) - Iceland LOVAGE (appetizer) - Iceland FISH (main) - Netherlands CHIVE (main) - Denmark PISTACHIO (dessert) Personally, the Iceland FISH main course was the highlight as there are three different fishes cooked three different ways. There was thoughtful preparation (in both pairing and sizing) to all the dishes. The choice of ingredients held true to the regional themes as well.

Absolute perfection! The best restaurant in Reykjavik, by far. The lobster soup is divine. Didn’t eat anything closer as good as this one in my life. The fish is perfect, the dessert crazy! Perfect served, ambiance was more than you think, 6 out of 5 stars!
Calin R — Google review
We ordered the Iceland Fish, Italy Garlic, and a 14-piece sushi set to share among three of us. The portions were generous, and every dish was delicious. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was lovely. That said, the prices were rather steep, but overall, it was still an enjoyable dining experience.

I am a seafood lover, and the dinner I had here was one of the best meals I’ve had all year. Absolutely incredible flavors, super fresh and high quality ingredients. We had the cod starter we had was perfectly prepared and the flavor bomb of pickled apples and cabbage surprised us. The scallop and slate dish was creative and very well balanced. Then we had the fish of the day trio, each fish had a clean taste clearly showcasing how very fresh the food was. They also gave us amuse bouche, house made bread with cultured butter and granola. It was actually less expensive than many not so great meals we had in Iceland. The service was on point, professional and thoughtful. I would recommend fish company to anyone going to Reykjavik.
Alyssa Y — Google review
It was late, which one may not realize until it is too late because it stays daylight for so long. Hard to find a decent restaurant that would still be open, have space and provide a quality meal. The Fish Company – we almost did not find it as the map seemed to suggest the entry on the other side – was a wonderful jewel: Very personable staff, great menu choices and super-delicious food, beautifully presented and on point.
Andreas K — Google review
An unforgettable dining experience! I had dinner at The Fish Company(Fiskfélagið), and it was absolutely amazing! The dishes are creative and full of delightful surprises, with ingredients and flavors from different parts of the world that blend beautifully together. My favourite dish was definitely the reindeer carpaccio. The combination of hazelnuts, Parmigiano, and blueberry compote was just extraordinary, each bite was an explosion of flavor! The main course, pan-fried lamb rib eye with pressed side lamb, was also fabulous, though the starter truly stole the show. A special shout-out to Eva, one of the waitresses, who made our evening even better. She was so sweet, attentive, and full of energy, always checking in on every table, clearing dishes promptly, and refilling our bottles without us needing to ask. She even surprised us with some cute little duckies and told us they were only for her favorite guests, such a lovely touch! We had a wonderful time at The Fish Company and will definitely come back the next time we visit Iceland. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

I ate at this place before and always loved the food. The set Around Iceland was not as good as others. The starters were amazing but the main dish and desert disappointing. Service is good and the atmosphere pleasant. On Friday night, almost all tables were busy.

Íslenski Barinn is a cozy and down-to-earth restaurant in Iceland that offers a unique dining experience with its impressive selection of seafood and meat dishes, including shark, reindeer, and whale. The low-lit atmosphere creates a welcoming environment for travelers to connect with each other while enjoying the delicious food. The interior is richly decorated with an old-timey vibe, making guests feel right at home.
Delicious meal. We went around dinner time with no reservation and only had to wait 15 mins. It was really fun to try the puffin. I was expecting it to taste like chicken or turkey but it tasted like a meat and was good. The lamb soup was also tasty (tender and flavorful). Fish and chips were interesting. I've never had curry seasoned batter but I liked it. Super cozy inside and the staff really friendly / nice. We are from the US and so of course went to leave a tip and our waiter was so sweet he explained to us it is not custom to tip in Iceland, he really wouldn’t let us 😂it was so different to not leave a tip but he was so kind to explain to us the culture there.

This place has delicious Icelandic foods in a warm, relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed trying the lamb, shank and reindeer burger. We also tried a small portion of whale just to say we did, it was not too bad, but wouldn’t be my first choice either. They do offer the fermented shark here, but we weren’t feeling quite brave enough to try that. We enjoyed the atmosphere in this place, it did not have the loud music you might expect at a place like this at home, rather the only music came from a real piano that some folks were playing.
Kevin H — Google review
Was ours first time trying island food, so we went directly for shark, whale and dry fish… We ordered Skonsa með langreyði and Hákarl (6 bitar) & harðfiskur með smjöri - you need to know that shark could smell very strong- and both dishes were really good!! Whale meat is soft and tasty and dry fish is salty and tasty too. Place is nice and is located a few blocks from the main church. Prices, like all Iceland, high… but really worth it
Erick P — Google review
Small restaurant in the center of town with lots of atmosphere and a really good menu. Even if you don't feel adventurous and try the fermented shark or whale meat, you will find a bunch of great options. We had the fish pie (delicious!), a burger (fantastic!) and some of the dogs, which were also great. My personal favourite was the Popped cod skin. Staff was friendly and very quick. Great beer selection, too. Absolute recommendation!

We love this place. Been here few times now and The service is always good and food is excellent. Lamb shank is so delicious. Also the reindeer burger was very good. And they do also have svid the sheep’s head, which was surprisingly so good also! One of our favorites was the creamy seafood soup. It Was very filling. On our first trip to Iceland we tried the shark and Brennivin here. Definitely a must try.
Wai'oli B — Google review
We have decided to go for some traditional islandic food and this place didn’t disappoint. However, it didn’t give the very Wow factor either. My favorite is actually the platter. 4 different types of delicacies - the whale, the smoked salmon (my absolute favorite)… it came with some tuna salad and the different cheese to pair with. Lamb shank is good but not wow. The dried fish of the day dish is also good but just kind the same as fish fish you get everywhere else in Europe. The reindeer burger was good, I love the Smokey flavored of it. Beer was good!
Annie A — Google review
Very nice authentic restaurant in Reykjavik. The fish & chips are the best I had in the city and if you want to try the whale this is the place to go. They also serve puffin on a crumpet but there are so many toppings on it that you cannot really taste the meat. I would definitely recommend this place.
Astrid B — Google review
For a famous bar, this place was pleasantly surprising. The servers were really nice, attentive and would explain details. I had the fermented shark, dried fish, puffin and the whale meat. I also had delicious popped cod skin (which was like a pork crackling). All of them were top class. I was really surprised by fermented shark, it was like fat with a chewy bit. The whale was like beef

Cafe
Café Babalú is a charming and cozy spot located on a favorite street in Reykjavik. The café's bright and unusual decor, spread over two levels, creates a warm and uplifting vibe that can brighten even the gloomiest of days. With its quirky and eclectic furnishings, including mismatched furniture and pop culture memorabilia, Café Babalú offers a playful and homely atmosphere.
This is a totally cool café! While we only had coffee (excellent cappuccino) there is also savoury food and cakes! The bathroom is an experience in itself - make sure you don’t miss it!

Went there twice during our trip. We ordered toast, tomato soup, and cauliflower soup — all amazing. The staff we met were polite, and the restaurant's decoration was quite original, definitely worth seeing. The best thing about this place is that it's pretty affordable for Iceland. We had a great time!
Alma M — Google review
The first impression when entering was nice but the guy that served us looked like a rehabilitated addict that never worked in a café before. When trying to place the chocolate cake on the plate he touched it with his finger and licked it after and wash it only with water and no soap. We were in shock when witnessing that. He tried to hide the mess with whipped cream but I haven’t asked for it on the chocolate cake. The apple crumble with the syrup looks like someone just threw up on the plate. The place is cute.
Andrea G — Google review
We enjoyed sotting outside this little cafe. The coffee selection was very good. I enjoyed a chai latte and my companion a regular coffee. The food was good, and we appreciated the side salad. I had a breakfast grilled ham and cheese. The bread was seedy and delicious.
Evangeline W — Google review
A nice cozy cafe. The coffee crumb cake and skyr ostakaka (Icelandic cheese cake with berry jelly) were delicious! I really like the atmosphere, it’s quirky and eclectic with lots of vintage art and nick-nacks. Check out the 2nd floor, it has a Flintstones mural with old vintage Flinstones memorabilia.

A nice place and unique in feel with all currency notes hanging across the interiors. The food and the coffee was good. The crepes were also good. The soup was ok. Overall a good pitstop, Seating was a bit tight
Ravi C — Google review
The 2 stars i am giving are for location and decór. The food is simply unacceptable. I had a toast that was dry and tasteless and when i asked for some mayonnaise for the chips (chips out of a bag), it was brought to me unwillingly. The chocolate chip cookie was truly ineadible. My friend's chocolate crépe was not that great either. Pitty.

Icelandic restaurant
Dill Restaurant in Reykjavik is a trailblazer as the first Icelandic restaurant to receive a Michelin star. The establishment, led by chef Gunnar Karl Gislason and sommelier Olafur Orn Olafsson, offers New Nordic Cuisine that reimagines classic dishes with innovative twists. The menu features items like arctic char, pork belly, and lamb shanks paired with wholesome ingredients such as barley, berries, and kale.
Dill exceeded all expectations with an incredible dining experience from start to finish. Every single dish was amazing—beautifully presented and packed with rich, balanced flavors. Service was warm and attentive, making the evening even more enjoyable. A special thanks to the sommelier for the perfect wine pairings, which elevated the meal to another level. If you’re in Reykjavik, Dill is an absolute must-visit. A truly memorable experience!

Dill is genuinely one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had - and I don’t say that lightly. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you’re greeted with delicious food and impeccable attention to detail. Everything about the space creates a calm, inspiring atmosphere - true to the menu’s concept. Every single dish was a delight, and it still felt completely unpretentious and relatable. All the team members are super attentive and you can tell they enjoy being there - so important! The wine list is insanely good with many gems made in harmony with nature. I cannot wait to go back and highly recommend the experience!! Thank you very much to the Dill team for a memorable night!

Dill gave us an awesome introduction to the Icelandic cuisine. The dinner consisted of 16 courses and each one was a perfect segue to the next dish. We had a lot of fun chatting with the various staff who would stop by and explain what we were eating, the significance of certain dishes to the Icelandic cuisine. We spent around $315 USD per person and didn’t get the alcohol pairing. If I had to pick a favourite dish, it would be the Onion Cake with juniper and carrots as well as the Cod Gellur which translates to fish throat. Couldn’t tell it was fish, very memorable. Highly recommend for your trip to Iceland. The attention to detail from the staff was A++.
Shiona D — Google review
This place was absolutely amazing. The vibe and chefs counter was incredible. The food was also fantastic. The staff was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable and was cool to chat with. I will definitely return next time I’m in town. The price was also worth it. Definitely the most memorable meal of my trip!

Incredible experience! The ambience is soft and relaxing, the service was excellent and the different courses were so delicious. We sat at the counter and watching the chefs, interacting with them, discussing the dishes is something I'd absolutely recommend. They even gave us an extra apple tart when they heard how much we loved it. Overall the food was very delicious, varied, well thought out and perfectly cooked (or perfectly raw). I think maybe some of the flavors were a little subtle for me but that may be that I'm inexperienced in Icelandic cuisine. It was a wonderful introduction. Would absolutely recommend.

The unique setting created by chef Gunnar Karl Gíslasson and team. The Icelandic Michelin experience with focus on local produce and flavours. Do not miss it, should you want on of the best selection of Icelandic bites in Reykjavík. Attentive staff dedicated to tell the stories and the ideas behind the dishes and the creative processes.
Peter S — Google review
We had an amazing dining experience at Dill. The quality, taste, and artistic presentation of the food were impeccable throughout our entire meal. What really stands out is the unique three-stage dining journey: initial welcome bites upon entry, then a relaxing stop in the lounge, culminating in the main dining room. This flow made the evening feel incredibly special. Extra nice to have a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and being able to chat to the chefs about the dishes. The wine list is extraordinary and you couldn't be in better hands than with Ben. The entire staff was incredible, big thanks for a special evening and we can't wait to return next time we're in Reykjavik!
Jean-Philippe P — Google review
Had the tasting menu at Dill and it was honestly next-level. Every dish told a story - wild, local ingredients like smoked lamb, arctic char, dried fish, and goose with blueberries, even in dessert (yes, dill and liquorice). The vibe is relaxed but still sharp. You can tell the team knows their stuff, but they're not trying to impress you with fluff. The wine pairing were great. It's the kind of place that just makes you slow down and enjoy the ride. If you're into food that feels connected to a place - go.

SALT Kitchen & Bar is a cozy and warm restaurant located in Reykjavik's Old Harbour, known for its seafood offerings. The restaurant has an interesting history, once being used as a fish net storage and processing plant. Visitors are drawn to the inviting atmosphere with small wooden tables, chairs, and a fireplace. The menu offers delicious options such as scallops and lamb shank, accompanied by a selection of wines at reasonable prices.
The seafood here is absolutely amazing. I ordered the salmon and it was hands down the best salmon I’ve ever had in my life (I live in Florida). The scallops were very flavorful and not chewy at all. The place is very cozy and staff is friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommended! :)
Clarie B — Google review
Good restaurant. Nice flair/cozy, good service and nice extras like bread with butter and chocolate with the bill. Fish and chips was nice, but no citron. Great salad with it. Burger was great in the combination, but the meat a bit over cooked. French Fries just standard, e.g. stake-house fries would have been better. Good cocktails, and happy hour from 15-19 at 1500 isk. Over all a fair price for the food.
Vasco E — Google review
Everything was nice, had the salmon dinner. Husband had the fish and chips. Fish was fried great but the fries were less than average. Everything was a little on the oily side, but it was seasoned well. Staff was great and got us out in time for our boat tour.

Fresh and tasty food. One of the best seafood that we have tasted.
Chenghong T — Google review
From the outside it's not much to look at. A wooden hut divided into 3 units. Walking in it resembles a fisherman's hut that has been filled with tables and chairs. And that's where the resemblance to anything fisherman related ends. The welcome was pretty much instant. Shown to a table for two as I was with my wife and menus presented. The choice is small but to be honest it didn't need to be any bigger, maybe a half dozen main courses but never the less something for everyone and to suit all tastes. A range of starters and specials are also available accompanied by a decent selection of hot and cold drinks. Water and bread provided before the orders were taken and drinks arrived promptly. The food was excellent with the salad and vegetables prepared and cooked to perfection. If you like your vegetables to be melt in the mouth then this is not the place for you. We were there for close to 2 hours. It was almost full when we arrived and there was a constant flow of new customers as tables became available which says a lot in itself. A really good experience and one I would repeat if I was back in Reykjavik.
Nigel Q — Google review
On the slightly pricey side of Iceland. But the fish and chips were great. Some of the best we've had. Go during happy hour if you'd like to drink. My margarita was delicious.
Emma P — Google review
Really laid back atmosphere, yet the staff are perfectly attentive. The food was lovely, all of us opted for the fish and chips, which had beautifully light batter (unlike a lot of fish places where the batter is greasy and heavy). They were very accommodating for my fussy daughter, giving her a plate of vegetables as she requested.

Great atmosphere, great food! Got the lamb tenderloin which was super tender and juicy. Had a shrimp starter and a chocolate cake dessert. Worth every penny. Looking for a parking place, there is a lot by the brioche and brewery.

If you're visiting Iceland, make sure to try out The Skyr Factory, where you can indulge in the unique taste of high-protein whipped whey known as skyr. This Icelandic delicacy has a flavor reminiscent of plain yogurt, cream cheese, and soft-serve ice cream but is surprisingly nonfat. You'll find a variety of options such as blueberry, melon, pear, and vanilla at supermarkets and convenience stores.
Great beverages!!! The large boost is enough to replace a full meal. So healthy and tasty and I feel so energetic after my berry boost, we also ordered a peanut butter boost, both great!!! the server was lovely!! highly recommend
