Coffee shop
Sandholt is a historic family-run bakery in Reykjavik, known for its wide variety of freshly baked goods, including sourdough bread, pastries, and cakes. The cozy eatery offers breakfast staples, sandwiches, and pastries alongside coffee and organic wines. The French-style pastries and bread are highly praised for their close resemblance to the original concept. Visitors can enjoy items from the breakfast menu such as shakshuka and pancakes topped with Icelandic strawberries.
Don’t let the queue to eat in scare you! It moves quite fast and the experience is well worth it. My friends and I enjoyed a variety of dishes and the pastries. The kleina was a standout! Probably one of the best we’ve had in Iceland. Surprisingly the yogurt with lemon curd was my favorite dish. The thick, creamy yogurt paired with the lemon curd was incredibly decadent. The interiors are warm and cozy. Despite the busyness, they are able to maintain a relaxing atmosphere. My friends and I were delighted that we got to sit in a booth filled with pillows. We felt right at home ☺️

Wednesday at 10:00 am and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Friendly hostess and waiter. Our order wasn’t put in and after everyone around us received their drinks and food the waiter realized his error. We weren’t in a hurry and things happen. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend any of the pastry selection! We stopped back after walking around the city for a loaf of sourdough bread too.

The best bakery and lunch spot in Reykjavik! We have been here several days and noticed the line always out the door here and there’s a good reason! The line moves fast, waited about 10 minutes. Food, atmosphere, and service were 10/10. We had the pasta of the day, chicken salad, and tried several desserts. Everything was fresh and delicious. We will be back before we return home!

We came twice and had very different experiences. The first time, we came early and were sat at a table without much issues. Our server may have been new but was not familiar with the pastries and asked us to point at them on our phone (pictures). Otherwise it was a pleasant breakfast and the pastries (poppyseed bun, cinnamon danish, pan au chocolat, croissant, and a honey bun) were very good. Coffee and tea were well made. 5/5 experience. On our second trip the server was more knowledgeable but seemed to not care at all. She rushed us to order and offered no pleasantries (which would have been fine if not for the other issues). We ordered a poppyseed bun, pistachio danish, doughnut, waffle with bacon, lemon poppyseed bread and a salted pretzel. When the food came, we learned that she hadn’t heard us correctly when we ordered the pretzel and punched in an extra waffle instead. We pointed this out and the server acted like we had changed our order, giving us an attitude. Most of the laminated dough pastries were delicious, however the lemon poppyseed bread was dry and mealy. We finally got the pretzel after the other food had been finished (no rush at all for a cold pretzel they grabbed from the display) and they had brought one with no salt. At this point we just ate it and then paid (where we learned she had punched in 3 waffles from the cashier). Overall: Ambiance 4/5 Service 1/5 Laminated Pastries 5/5 Waffle 5/5 Soft Breads 4/5 Cake Breads 1/5 Pretzel 3/5 Coffee/Teas 4/5

This is one of the most popular bakeries in Reykjavik, and for good reason! We loved their pastries and couldn’t help but go back for a second time right before we had to fly back home. Get there early if you can! The crowd seems to pick up after 9:00A. In addition to serving up a variety of baked goods and chocolates, Sandholt is also a restaurant that serves actual breakfast and lunch dishes. When we went in at 9:30A one day, the entryway was packed with people waiting in line for pastries and others waiting for a table to dine in. + POPPY SEED BUN: This twisted golden bun was soft and bready, sprinkled evenly with poppy seeds and drizzled with a light sugary glaze. The bun itself didn’t have a strong flavor, but it goes well with a cup of coffee and was a great way to start the day. + PISTACHIO DANISH: This flaky pastry had a slight crispiness and was swirled with crushed pistachios. The layers were buttery and thin and I liked how this wasn’t too sweet. + BROWN SUGAR BUN: A must! Similar to a cinnamon roll, this bun was delightfully soft with a brown sugar cinnamon spread inside. Small pipings of frosting came on top, finished with crunchy chocolate pearls. Some of the brown sugar was caramelized on the bottom of the bun, giving it a little extra chew. It was such an indulgent treat. Pricing is not too bad considering the great quality of each pastry. If you only visit one bakery in Reykjavik, make sure it’s Sandholt!

Location: Laugavegur 36, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland — right on a main street in downtown. • Type of place: Bakery / café / brunch spot. A long-standing family bakery with a mix of traditional and more modern items. • History: Operating since 1920, and still under family oversight. They maintain a blend of old recipes & baking traditions, but also innovate somewhat. ⸻ Vibe & Atmosphere • Cozy, warm, pleasant interior; marble counters, nice presentation. • A spot many locals & tourists like for relaxing, meeting friends, enjoying pastries & coffee. • Often busy, especially mornings; queues are common, both for sit-in and takeaway

My boyfriend and I went here twice on our trip to Iceland! Both times the food and drinks were amazing! Super cozy restaurant with fresh made everything! The first time we went we got the Swiss mocha, orange juice, shashuka with pork and the salmon avocado toast! We also got a brown sugar bun that was a little too sweet for both of us but still really good. The second time we came here we got two Swiss mochas, the shashuka with bacon, the salmon avocado toast, the skyr with fruit and lemon curd, and we also got a chocolate cinnamon bun and a slice of marble cake to go. Everything was super delicious! My boyfriend ended up liking the shashuka with pork better but still said both options are great! We went on Saturdays both times around 12pm/1pm and the wait was only about 10mins or so just depends on your group size but they’re very efficient and friendly!

Sandholt is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy Reykjavík life for a while. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. There’s a big variety of pastries, sandwiches, and hot dishes - everything looked delicious. We tried some pastries and coffee, and it was honestly one of the best bakery experiences we’ve had in Iceland. Prices are very fair for the quality you get. The location is great, right in the heart of the city, and it’s also a lovely place to sit down for lunch or brunch. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place with great food, warm vibes, and a true Icelandic touch. 💛☕

Cafe
Reykjavik Roasters is a renowned coffee spot in Reykjavik, celebrated for its exceptional brews and skilled baristas who have won awards worldwide. With two locations, one near Hallgrimskirkja church and the other close to Hlemmur Square, it's a popular choice for locals and tourists alike. The original location on Karastigur boasts a modern interior but limited seating, while the second location offers a hipster vibe with unique decor and fine coffee options.
Cute simple stop for coffee and a light bite. We got cappuccinos with oat milk, porridge & the toast with red pesto. Staff was really nice. Found seating pretty quickly. Overall very good.

A proper coffee shop; no decaf, no syrups. Coffee and pastry were nice, over £12, however the service I received was not appreciated. I only noticed something was not right after standing there and drinks arriving to those who came way after me. This happened because of a shift change I believe. When I thought it was my drink as she said flat white, I asked if it was oat. She stated no, it's normal and I said that I was waiting a while and other drinks were being served. She said, without looking at me, it's not your fault, it's not my fault, nobody told me. Fair enough but you can see I'm the only one standing there for a while. Luckily kids were waiting patiently, the vibe inside is chill. And then kids played outside in the open play area while I had my coffee and they shared their hazelnut chocolate croissant.

Reykjavik Roasters is a good local coffee shop. The atmosphere feels bright and surprisingly colorful. The staff did not put off the same vibe. They were on task and executed the orders with a robotic like precision. The coffee itself was pleasant but didn’t give me that first “wow” sip in the morning boost that I get at my favorite coffee shop. I still recommend it if you’re in the city and craving your caffeine fix.
Grish240 — Google review
Best cup of coffee on Reykjavík - well done and an adorable shop…roast is light and smooth. Service was wonderful and you can sit and stay or they did do take away…which we were meeting friends so grabbed it Togo.
Amy H — Google review
The bakery welcomes you to take photos, it has the best cinnamon rolls. We bought 3 different pastries but the cinnamon roll was the first one to be finished. There was a line to get service but it moved very fast.
Keqi G — Google review
The location is perfect, set up in a small house on the intersection between main roads leading into town and roads leading up to the cathedral. It’s cute and full of coffee paraphernalia. As a bigger man, it feels a bit cramped, but the coffee is high quality, which makes up for a lack of space during peak time, and the staff are kind and friendly, so it’s worthwhile. Sadly, prices have gone up a lot! But the last time I visited was well over ten years ago…

Great coffee in this little coffee shop! Loved the vibe and the quality—definitely a cozy spot worth stopping by.

Crowded and SUPER rude staff, no smile, not friendly, cashier basically rolled her eyes at me and couldn’t wish we get out there faster. Maybe it’s an Icelandic thing? It’s our first day in Iceland, very disappointing, was gonna buy beans from them, very glad we didn’t

Mokka Kaffi holds a significant place in Reykjavik's history as the city's first coffee house, introducing Icelanders to espresso for the first time in 1958. Initially met with skepticism, it soon became a popular spot for locals to gather over a cup of coffee.
Great spot for freshly made coffee and waffles. With the muted colors and carpeted floor, you’ll feel like you’re in a ski chalet after enjoying a day on the slopes! Their delicious waffles are their specialty…don’t forget the thick whipped cream.

Old, Cozy, Classic with art. Beside rainbow road and tourist. It could be calm or very busy place. Good coffee !!! Waffles is recommend.
Vala — Google review
Got a cappuccino and the coconut roll. They were both solid, the coconut roll was very unique—like a paste covered in marzipan, very very sweet. You can only have a couple of bites and need to eat it with a coffee. What stands out the most is the atmosphere; it is extremely cozy and serene. Maybe the quietest cafe I’ve been in with patrons. Probably an amazing spot for reading when it’s cold out. Great for trying to experience a spot the locals love.
Jeannie — Google review
My husband and I will go on record to say this cafe has the BEST Hot Chocolate we've ever had, in any country, ever! I am gluten free and there were many food options to enjoy as well - the almond pastry and gf bread with butter, ham and cheese were fantastic. My husband really enjoys the waffles. Already have another trip to Iceland planned and this stop is one of the first on the list!

Very cute little cafe serving tasty sandwiches, waffles, and very good coffee. Comfortable seating, friendly barista, and nice art on the alls

Cute little spot right on Rainbow Road with amazing waffles. Painted red with the door propped open, we felt welcome. We walked in early afternoon and grabbed a booth. You order at the counter and they make fresh your delicious waffle. You have a choice of 4 toppings, we went with the most popular Whipped Cream and Jam. The whipped cream not sweet, so mixing it with the strawberry jam is perfect. The 2 large sweet waffles and a bottle of Coke came to 2.635,00 ISK. Sounds like a lot of money, but it was worth the price of $20.62.

I had hummus and sun dried tomatoes on toast and had my breakfast world CHANGED. A delicious bit of Iceland that will come home with me! Flat white and Americano pictured!

Is it too early to say this is my favourite Reykjavík cafe after only having been here for one day and visiting two cafes? I came here for a quick grilled sandwich lunch before heading to the harbour area and – after spending 3 hours out on the cold sea – came right back for waffles and a good hot chocolate. Very cozy, great location. Perfect place for a quick lunch or to warm up after spending hours in the cold. Great selection of toasts and sweets (and less crowded than Sandholt).

The Laundromat Cafe in Reykjavik is a must-visit spot, especially for breakfast and brunch enthusiasts. The cafe offers a diverse menu featuring eggs prepared in various ways, pancakes, and beverages like coffee or Bloody Mary. With its unique laundromat theme, the restaurant provides a comfortable and sociable environment. It's well-known for its cozy ambiance, vibrant decor, and an array of meal options including burgers, salads, sandwiches, nachos, and vegetarian dishes.
After a long morning or exploring Reykjavik, the Laundromat was a chill spot to sit, rest, and enjoy a beer and some great food. We stumbled past the storefront while walking on a food tour or Reykjavik (something you MUST try), and the exterior was so inviting that we made a note that we needed to return. The inside is fun and vibrant. The ROYGBIV bookshelf bar counter is pleasing to the eyes, and the jet red chairs and chairs and lamp shades give a vibe of a cozy yet trendy coffee shop. The food was incredible and was affordable. You should definitely try one of the local beers. I'm not lying when I say, Iceland Beer is some of the best beer I have ever had, and I'm bummed you can't find it in the states. Viking beer was my absolute favorite. This location was very welcoming and the staff extremely hospitable. It's also located in the heart of Reykjavik. It's a must try place if you find yourself in the land of Fire & Ice! Cheers!!

Seems like a popular place for Sat breakfast. Interesting vibrant eclectic decor. Self order via QR code at table. Nice venue & location. Not very good croissants/ham/cheese, ok pancakes, decent coffee but cup handle too small. They pre-poured too much syrup on pancake.
D D — Google review
A beautiful place that has quickly become our new favorite spot for breakfast and brunch. ❤️‍🔥🥯The avo toast could have been seasoned a bit better, but everything else was excellent. We had a really great meal. The place is clean and has an interesting atmosphere, and the coffee especially with Baileys 😛 was absolutely delicious. it’s also a nice spot for kids 👧🏼
Gabrielka J — Google review
Cute place with warm and inviting decor. We came for an early supper the day we arrived. It must have been the end of their day as service was inattentive. You order online at your table (which I dislike anyway). All the waiter does is bring you the food. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich (ho hum) and fish and chips with coleslaw (which was awful) and chips. The fish was soft not crispy and greasy. A big disappointment since I thought it would be fabulous given the locale. The chips were great—the best thing they served. Very average meal especially for the price. We should have come for brunch as the pastries looked fresh and brunch menu more enticing. They also have a coffee machine offering espresso drinks.
Laura R — Google review
Gluten Free bread available by request! Great decor, fast service (September visit), hearty portions of delicious fresh food. There is even a little laundromat in the basement. We would definitively dine here again.
Janice E — Google review
Food was mediocre, you order from a qr code and everything came at once. The had to put our dinner under the heat lamp while we finished our app on the tiny table. Cute atmosphere though!
Sabrina B — Google review
Came here right after we arrived to Reykjavik. Very popular spot! We waited about 10-15 minutes for a table. Cute atmosphere inside and downstairs there’s bathrooms and an actual laundromat that’s in use. Once we were seated there’s a QR code on the table where you order and pay all at once. Food came out decently quick considering how busy. My pancakes were excellent and my friend enjoyed her eggs. Very pricy but to be expected in Iceland. Right in the center of town and close to lots of things!

Café Babalú is a charming and cozy spot located on a favorite street in Reykjavik. The café's bright and unusual decor, spread over two levels, creates a warm and uplifting vibe that can brighten even the gloomiest of days. With its quirky and eclectic furnishings, including mismatched furniture and pop culture memorabilia, Café Babalú offers a playful and homely atmosphere.
This is a totally cool café! While we only had coffee (excellent cappuccino) there is also savoury food and cakes! The bathroom is an experience in itself - make sure you don’t miss it!

Went there twice during our trip. We ordered toast, tomato soup, and cauliflower soup — all amazing. The staff we met were polite, and the restaurant's decoration was quite original, definitely worth seeing. The best thing about this place is that it's pretty affordable for Iceland. We had a great time!
Alma M — Google review
The first impression when entering was nice but the guy that served us looked like a rehabilitated addict that never worked in a café before. When trying to place the chocolate cake on the plate he touched it with his finger and licked it after and wash it only with water and no soap. We were in shock when witnessing that. He tried to hide the mess with whipped cream but I haven’t asked for it on the chocolate cake. The apple crumble with the syrup looks like someone just threw up on the plate. The place is cute.
Andrea G — Google review
We enjoyed sotting outside this little cafe. The coffee selection was very good. I enjoyed a chai latte and my companion a regular coffee. The food was good, and we appreciated the side salad. I had a breakfast grilled ham and cheese. The bread was seedy and delicious.

A nice cozy cafe. The coffee crumb cake and skyr ostakaka (Icelandic cheese cake with berry jelly) were delicious! I really like the atmosphere, it’s quirky and eclectic with lots of vintage art and nick-nacks. Check out the 2nd floor, it has a Flintstones mural with old vintage Flinstones memorabilia.

A nice place and unique in feel with all currency notes hanging across the interiors. The food and the coffee was good. The crepes were also good. The soup was ok. Overall a good pitstop, Seating was a bit tight

The 2 stars i am giving are for location and decór. The food is simply unacceptable. I had a toast that was dry and tasteless and when i asked for some mayonnaise for the chips (chips out of a bag), it was brought to me unwillingly. The chocolate chip cookie was truly ineadible. My friend's chocolate crépe was not that great either. Pitty.

Cozy place with nice options for breakfast/brunch. There are only a few seats so you might need to wait. Personally I didn't like the coffee but my wife did. Not the cheapest place but okay for Iceland. Worth trying (Cuban sandwich was very good).

Cute little café with an americanized menu and nice decór. Good breakfast options. The place has very few tables, so you might have to wait. I would not say it's cheap, however one has to consider that Iceland is expensive.

Small place, not worth waiting 20min outside and 1 hour for simple breakfast. I wasn't in the rush, but still didn't plan to spend 2 hours to have 2 fried egg and cup of coffee. Coffee was good when its arrived after 15min. Waiters was nice but looked very tired, when you have such a busy place, why not to employ one more person. Plus prices is like Iceland - unique. Small breakfast £30 without Coffee. Give 4 only for hard working staff.

We've only been here for 3 days and this is our 3rd time in. We enjoy the espresso so much, we went ahead and got a stamp card, since we'll be here another week. The menu is small, the food is simple, and you can't go wrong. If you only stop in once, make sure you get pancakes! And if you're really hungry (or sharing) go for the infamous The Truck. A lovely little hole-in-the wall to fuel up in for a big day.

👍Overall 10/10. ⚠️The place is quite popular so once the tables are full, you have to wait outside on the bench. However, inside is super cute and the food is very good. Typical Iceland prices where I paid $55 for a breakfast that would’ve been $24 in the states but I learned to just close my eyes for the bill on this island and enjoy the trip 🫣😅

Good little breakfast spot Great hot chocolate. Fresh squeezed oj is a bit sour. Pancake flavor was not as good as I hoped and they are super thick and dense. Portions are huge so plan to share… fairly small and guessing maybe seating for 30 people ish. Was a line when they opened for us but only a few tables deep. Order at the counter after they admit you to choose a seat.

Celiacs beware! Other reviews say there are gluten free options, by this they mean you can modify the meal by removing any bread. However, there is not a substitute gluten free bread or pancake. So only come here if you simply want eggs and potatoes. I ordered a gluten free order of Eggs & Bacon. To make it gluten free they removed the toast and gave me an extra egg. Except- when the order came out there were huge pieces of bread on the plate touching every food item. It seems the cook is the one that brought it out and when I asked if it was gluten free she was confused and asked me if I had ordered gluten free to which I said yes. Then she took the plate in the back, a few minutes later- not nearly as long as it took for the food to come out the first time, she came back with a plate that looked exactly the same except the bread had been removed. The food was what you would expect. The eggs tasted like eggs. The potatoes had a nice crispy shell. And the bacon was very good but some may think it salty. The homemade hot sauce was good, not too spicy and slightly sweet- might not be to everyone’s taste. The service is fine, you have to go up to the counter to order and pay. Wait staff does not come to the table except to drop off food. That said I was very impressed by the staff, there was one person managing seating people, taking orders, processing payment, making beverages (barista), and all with a kindly manner. The space is VERY cozy, sort of an underground bookstore cafe with warm/dark mood lighting. Lots of red and mustard yellow aesthetic. Clientele was causal, familial, and mixed. Kitchen is Soy (Soya) free.

Great place to spend a few hours learning more about this fabulous country!!! The exhibits are very nice. The lava and glacier exhibits are fun! The restaurant has delicious food and the dining area rotates slowly! The views from the observation deck are breathtakingly beautiful. Love from Kentucky! Get tickets early!!!

Very pleasantly surprised! We spent there three hours without even knowing. Volcano show (both) as well as aurora show are incredible. Lots of other interactive stuff. And oh yes, the ice cave. We also enjoyed good cup of coffee in the cafe.

A very impressive and modern museum! There’s a lot of interesting information about Iceland’s volcanoes, glaciers, icebergs, and natural wonders, all presented in an interactive and engaging way. Some of the immersive videos are truly stunning. One of the highlights is the simulation ride where you stand on a platform surrounded by screens and experience what it’s like to travel through a volcano and witness an eruption — very exciting and well done. Another must-see is the ice cave made of real ice and snow, which gives a unique sense of what it’s like inside a glacier. Overall, a great mix of education and entertainment, perfect for both adults and children. Definitely worth a visit while in Reykjavík!

Great visit. Lots of staff to help you on arrival and as you go through the museum. Gave us good suggestions to make our day flow. We loved the Volcano show and the Aurora show - really well put together. The ice cave was fun too. The exhibits were interesting and interactive. The views from the observation deck were very good. We really enjoyed the day and would recommend a visit.

A must visit! If you want to know the history of this amazing country, its volcanic activity and northern lights them worth a visit. The ice tunnels and northern lights planetarium are a must do. Great outdoor platform to view the whole city and on the top floor lovely cafe with great cake selection. Highly recommended

Worth a visit, with some highlights and some meh sections, with underwhelming indications/navigation. The videos/shows are actually quite impressive and elaborate, and not that long. The ice cave is a super nice touch, but it’s a bit of a pity you don’t hear about it sufficiently before entering the museum (otherwise we would have brought extra jackets for the -15degrees inside…).

One of the best museums we’ve visited anywhere, and an absolute must if you’re visiting Reykjavik. A great mix of information and experiences which could keep people of all ages entertained for hours, including the Aurora film, volcano experience and replica ice cave. There’s free parking at the door, a restaurant upstairs, and a decent gift shop. Guides were brilliant, and English was spoken and understood everywhere. An unexpected highlight of our short stay in Iceland.

Located in the heart of Reykjavik, Kaffibrennslan is a cozy and inviting cafe that transforms into a lively spot at night. During the day, it offers an array of sandwiches, soups, and coffee drinks. The second floor provides a charming loft area with window seating overlooking the bustling street below. In addition to their excellent coffees and pastries, they also serve beers, wines, and soft drinks.
The cafe is cozy and has many options in its menu. There’s many spots where you can have a seat and enjoy your coffee. Something nice and interesting is that you can find free postcards by the door. And lastly there’s happy hour as well.

Not to busy today when we visited. Nice cosy atmosphere and appeared very clean and staff courteous and friendly. Nice selection of pastries and nice nibbles. The flat white coffees were piping hot and tasty. The toilets were upstairs and 13 steps to overcome the obstacle. Couldn't find any Disabled toilets so beware if you are a wheelchair operator. Also to gain entry to this cafe there are 2 or 3 steps front or back and you would have to collapse your wheelchair as there are no ramps. This was the reason for only 4 stars rating, but if you can walk in it's well worth it. Outside on the pavement is a glass greenhouse with little tables for inclement weather but not sure regards access to wheelchair based customers.

Visited this location in October 2025. Cozy place with quite a few options for food and seating. Seating: inside and stairs, inside on main floor, outside in covered area. Food: nice amount of options, I got the Griskt jogurt that was very tasty. My wife got a croissant that was pleasant. Drinks: Good tea options, and the hot chocolate was delicious. Service team was kind and helpful. Would/will visit this location again. Thank you!

We went for something to breakfast and we tried croissant du chocolat and a cake with jam (don’t remember the name), we added one expresso double and one flat white, all was good enough, but the skyr (yogurt) definitely were THE best!! Kattakaffihúsið, Reykjavik's pioneering cat cafe, offers a unique twist to the traditional Icelandic coffee scene. Originating from Japan, the concept of a cat cafe may seem unconventional in Iceland, but Kattakaffihúsið has carved out its niche by providing a cozy cafe experience along with opportunities for cat adoption.
Let’s be real, we all came here for the cats. The cafe is super cute and set up in a perfect way to be a safe, fun, relaxing place for cats and a cute cafe! I was only concerned with seeing cats, but the drink I ordered ended up being fantastic too! I had a chai latte and it was amazing. Must stop for cat lovers 😻

Came here for the cats and also saw there was good food - turns out NOT. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and had only one thin slice of cheese so basically it was just bread. And the lime muffin had like zero taste. So, come here for the cats, they are lovely 😻but not expect much about the food.

This place was too cute! I had a light breakfast here and enjoyed seeing and petting the cats. They definitely own this place! The food choice was amazing! So many different pastries to choose from, it's hard to pick which one you want! Along with the drinks. I got a slice of carrot cake with green tea and sat on the fancy couch and watched the cats do their thing. It's so great to see the customers interact with the cats too. They are so chill and will come to you if they want. If you like food and you like cats and want the best of both, come here!

We were curious to see what the cat cafe was all about so we headed over to it. It’s a block or two away from the main tourist streets. The exterior pink paint looks like it could use a refresh. The coffee drinks and vegan sandwich we ordered were ok. The staff was not particularly pleasant or nice. The cats were cute…

The cozy interior with rustic elements like wooden beams and brick walls creates a welcoming atmosphere for visitors to enjoy classic Icelandic comfort food while listening to live music.
Everything about this place is so cozy, I love it! I asked if they had an iced latte and they said no but they could put ice in the latte, I ordered it and let me tell you IT'S BETTER THAN THE LATTE I HAVE AT MY LOCAL CAFE AT HOME!!

Jan25 Café Rosenberg has a cozy atmosphere with a charming English-style interior. We enjoyed a hot chocolate and a soft drink in peace, as we were the only ones there. However, the service was confusing—after waiting 10 minutes, we realized it was self-service. Later, staff informed us we needed to pay first before drinks were served. While the setting is lovely, the communication could be improved.

An atmospheric cafe in the old part in the center of Reykjavik, where we can drink not only coffee, but also eat a good cake or drink beer. Characteristic interior design with lots of wood. Comfortable couches where you can relax. At the tables you can play chess, for example. Very good location, but no parking. Staff without a smile, which leaves much to be desired.

This might be my favorite coffee place anywhere. Great coffee. Quiet mood with moody strange music or old pop songs..folks sit and dream. I’ve had a chocolate muffin and an apple pie. Great whipped crème. Girls behind the counter are young mostly smiling and alittle..off beat. Some Unmatched tables and chairs and some velvet antiques. Nice display of pies and cakes.

Very cute cafe. Its the perfect place to meet with friends and catch up over a cup of coffee. On my last visit to this place it was packed as usual and it was nice to watch people play chess and listen in on conversations. Great location. I really enjoy the food here but I wish there was more attention at labeling what's in the food. My partner is vegetarian and was surprised to find meat on the mozzarella sandwich because it wasn't listed on the menu.

Apotek Restaurant, located in Reykjavik, Iceland, is housed in a historic pharmacy building and offers a unique dining experience. The restaurant serves delicious small plates and main courses such as sea trout on a Himalayan salt block and char-grilled beef tenderloin. Additionally, the cozy lounge at Apotek is known for serving some of the best cocktails in Reykjavik, including creative concoctions like the Dillagin and Rodaberg.
It was extremely delicious. We order set of 3 pieces. And it was tasty and very nice looking. The portions were big, so we even haven’t managed to finish our main course. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the restaurant gifted us with two glasses of Champaign which was very nice. We were there at Friday evening and it was full, atmosphere was very nice as well

Ambience: Very well design venue. Dim lighting, dark brown furniture , very elegant and sophisticated. The seats were extremely comfortable . Loved how romantic the ambience was. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Food: Very flavorful. The food was extremely delicious and the combination of flavors and ingredients were very creative. The plates were artistically designed and well presented. It was truly a fine dining experience in terms of taste and quality. It appeared to me that there was a lot of inspiration from other cuisines mixed with the local cuisine which made the food even more interesting. There was a touch of Mediterranean cuisine infused with every dish which not only did not affect the authenticity of the dish itself but added another complexity and color to it which I found very amusing. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Service: Excellent. There were plenty of staff on the floor attending the guests. Unlike what we have experienced with other restaurants in Iceland, where there weren’t enough team members attending the guests, this place had the right ratio and the staff were all very warm and were fully focused on the guest experience which was great to see. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ Overall: Highly recommend it!

One of the city’s more stylish dining spots, set in a historic building that used to house a pharmacy. The interior blends a modern, upscale feel with touches of old-world charm, making it an inviting choice for a nice evening out. It’s centrally located, so it’s easy to include as part of a day exploring downtown. The menu is Icelandic with a creative twist, featuring local ingredients like lamb, fresh seafood, and Arctic char, often prepared with a contemporary or international influence. Presentation is elegant, and the dishes are crafted with attention to detail. Portion sizes aren’t huge, but the quality is consistently high, and the flavors are balanced. The cocktail menu is also a highlight, with inventive drinks that reflect the restaurant’s pharmacy heritage. Service is generally polished and attentive, though it can feel a bit brisk when the restaurant is busy. Prices are on the higher side, but in line with other fine dining spots in Reykjavík. Reservations are strongly recommended, as Apotek is popular with both locals and visitors, especially in the evenings and on weekends. The atmosphere manages to strike a balance between classy and relaxed, making it suitable for both a special occasion and a memorable night out during your trip. If you want to experience Reykjavík dining at its more refined, this is one of the best places to do it. Overall, Apotek Restaurant delivers on presentation, flavors, and atmosphere. While it’s not the most budget-friendly option, it’s a strong choice if you’re looking for a stylish dining experience that highlights Icelandic ingredients with creativity.

Took the 3 course set dinner. Portions are huge and delicious so make sure you come hungry. Cocktails are great too! The arctic char and cod were a bit salty but still delicious. The stars of the evening were the lamb tartare and lamb rump steak! Excellent service and great ambiance. Will definitely go back.

We visited Apotek Restaurant in Reykjavík and chose the 7-course tasting menu. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I truly appreciate good food — we’ve dined at Michelin-starred restaurants and many outstanding places around the world — but this restaurant absolutely amazed me. The service was flawless: we asked to change a few courses in the tasting menu, and our waitress carefully discussed everything with the chef. Each dish was perfectly thought out and beautifully executed. From the different kinds of fish to the lamb and even a vegetable steak — it was a true culinary journey. The evening ended with the most delightful dessert — local yogurt. Even though I was already full, this sweet course was so light and delicious that I couldn’t resist finishing it. Huge thanks to the chef, the entire team, and the professional staff for creating such an unforgettable evening. An absolute highlight of our trip!

We went there at 17:30 and there was no queue. By the time we finished, there was a line! So make sure to go early if you didn't book a table. I was longing for a lobster dish in Iceland and found this! The lobster is good though it doesn't look like the picture from instagram 😆 We also ordered the beef tenderloin, lamb rump steak, and a tiger prawn salad. Added crispy new potatoes as a side. Everything is amazingly delicious. It worth the price! ❤️ Best dinner in Iceland!

Great food excellent service. The menu was excellent with many options. Service was great. The wine selection is very broad. The cocktail was very nice as was dessert. Highly recommend the waguy appetizer.
Alexandra W — Google review
Apótek in Reykjavík was such a fun stop on our Iceland food journey. The building itself used to be the city’s main pharmacy, and you can still feel that history in the design. I even felt a little bit of mystery in the atmosphere, almost like the walls were holding on to old stories. We came here to try two Icelandic dishes: puffin and minke whale. The puffin was unlike anything I’ve ever had very fishy, like the ocean itself, since their diet is mostly fish. The minke whale surprised me with how tender and mild it was, almost like beef with a hint of the sea. Did you know this building was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, Iceland’s state architect who also created Hallgrímskirkja? That touch of history makes the dining experience even more unique. Just keep in mind this two dishes are enough for everyone. The flavors are very strong, but I like to say I try it once.

Decent food and service, but not quite what the commercials make it out to be. On the plane, we saw a commercial for this place, so we made sure we tried it out. It very much reminded me of restaurants in France. It's pretty small, pretty tight, pretty small tables. But, the food portions were pretty big. I had a burger. The service was OK. The atmosphere was OK, but it was a bit crowded and buzzy. Many customers, I imagine a mix of both locals and travelers, seemed a bit pretentious. That's the impression that I got. Nothing special here. Just like most of Iceland. I didn't get this vibe from about eight other restaurants we experienced. Get ready, Iceland. Because I'm about to drop some other reviews and this is about as good as it gets. I was pretty disappointed with Iceland. We did get to see some Northern Lights right outside as we exited that evening. #iceland #review #travel #foodie

Love the place aesthetically and good service but the fish of the day is bad. Everything boiled from fish to potatoes which were soggy. Carrots undercooked. I hope it improves as I’d be willing to one day try again as I like the location.

Unfortunately, the restaurant staff could use some hospitality training. I sat down around 1 pm with my laptop and a small pastry I’d bought elsewhere, planning to order a coffee. Even though the restaurant was completely empty, I was immediately asked to leave. In the end, I decided not to stay or order anything — that’s not the kind of attitude guests expect in a hotel restaurant. If people were actually dining, I’d understand, but when it’s empty, this kind of behavior just feels unwelcoming.
Alex E — Google review
The staff at Slippbarinn are so friendly and accommodating. I had an early bus (not enough time to do the whole buffet), so I asked for something to go and the host explained that since it was buffet only, I could just grab a pastry on the house. Not to mention the pastry was delicious! It’s a great atmosphere and I would definitely recommend Slippbarinn and the Reykjavík Marina hotel.

Not sure if my cousin’s wife asked for a private room or staged a polite coup in Icelandic. Either way, we got one — and honestly, it felt like VIP treatment. The staff rolled with it like pros and set us up with a beautiful spread of breads, cheeses, and meats that looked like it belonged in a magazine. Service was spot on — friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Five stars, no hesitation.

We had a pretty good experience at this cocktail bar and restaurant. We called in a reservation which is always good. We were greeted right away, but just from observing you could see they were having issues with service. Many tables looking to order or for tabs. We stayed. The host was a champ, stepping up getting things started. Craft cocktails were creative, tasty and eye-catching. We had the fresh fish in a pan and steak sandwich, both great selections. The fish did was fresh and exceptional. Our guests had burgers. They were good but had had spicier sauce on them not noted on the menu. It worked out. Overall a good experience but no real great connection to the place or staff. This place is located down by the water in Reykjavik downtown.

We love the fish of the day in pan which is the cod that day, and the seafood soup with shrimp scallops. Cosmopolitan is quite ok, the dessert chocolate cake is even better than expectation as normally it would be so sweet but not for this one. Not 5 stars just because of the price, and the waiter didn’t remind that the hotel guest can have 10% off.

Wonderful atmosphere and service. The coffee and food were excellent. The place was a bit busy, which was not surprising for a Saturday noon. It is rather pricey, like everything else in Iceland. They didn't have enough personnel to clean the tables, so I had to move a few used cups to the edge of my table to make room for my order. Nevertheless, I would definitely visit that place again.

Great way to warm up on a chilly Icelandic day! We thought the shop was super cozy and the food/drinks were wonderful. My husband went across the street to do a little shopping while I finished my latte and snapped this pic.

I stopped by this Icelandic coffee chain to grab a Flat White to go with a pastry that I picked up from a nearby bakery. It was robust, bold, smooth and comforting to sip on while walking back to our hotel. This shop initially looks small with just a couple seats up front near the counter, however, the space opens up into a comfortable dining area with several tables in the back. In addition to coffee and sweet baked goods, their menu also featured Croque Monsieur, bagels and toast options. All I needed was a coffee to go, but if I had more time that morning, this would be a nice cozy spot for a simple breakfast.

Dark roast for the coffee. The sourdough bread is not the best we had around town but the bagel is great.

Located in the Vesturbaer district of Reykjavik, Kaffihús Vesturbæjar is a charming café housed in a former pharmacy, retaining its beautiful shelves and marble counter. Frequented by Iceland's top actors and artists, this all-day cafe was founded by well-known personalities. Situated across from the popular Vesturbaejarsundlaug Swimming Pool, it's an ideal stop for locals and visitors alike.
I visited for dinner, and chose the fish of the day. This was really tasty and well cooked, the whole dish was balanced and satiating. The beer was nice and the atmosphere was lovely.

My boyfriend and I came here on one of our days in Reykjavik! Definitely a spot with lots of locals! Staff were super friendly and helpful with converting their menu to English for us! We unfortunately missed breakfast but we got the Salmon lox bread which I really enjoyed, it had lots of good flavor to it and my boyfriend got a bleu cheese potato omelette which was okay but if given the opportunity he would get something else.

A great place for brunch and or coffee. We came here for a holiday and our place were close by and so we had our bunch here. Lovely staff and food. For Iceland’s women’s day, they also gave a free mimosa! Solid 4.

Now I know why Pedro Pascal chose this place to visit. I heard stories from other people about this place. I finally came on a gloomy rainy day and OMG that was spectacular. I'm a sucker for eggs benedict and these were the best I ever had. And even though I'm a fan of Braud-style cinammon rolls, the soft buns with frosting here were a dream. Yassss! Will come again.

Lost a customer today .. shame ! I have been a patron for years: not anymore! Extremely rude Spaniard employee at the counter, gave me a “dress down” for taking in a gluten free muffin bought next door to have with “their” pricy cappuccino, after her colleague shortly earlier advised me to do so, being their kitchen closed ( by 2 min only , I’d like to add) and could not “ possibly “ accommodate any food requests to serve that I could eat . A bit of emotional intelligence, empathy , common sense and good manners go a long way in business , dear Kaffihús Vesturbæjar owner. Just a thought! Regards .

Delicious food and friendly staff make this restaurant a great choice. The onion soup is rich and flavorful, and the fish is perfectly cooked. Highly recommended for a satisfying meal.

Nice neighborhood café for breakfast. Good espresso drinks, and you can pick up pastries from Brauð & Co right next door. The granola with skyr and berries was fresh and tasty (the blueberries here are surprisingly big). The place has a unique style and seems mostly local outside of the more touristy areas of the city. A good spot to sit, read, or grab a bite if you’re nearby.

Kaffi Vest is located in a building that used to house a pharmacy. They have kept some cabinets and other items from that time which help lend the place a relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly staff. The coffee is good, even great as they claim themselves, and beer and wine are available if you’re in the mood for that. In addition to bread and pastries which are served all day they have lunch and dinner menus consisting mostly of sandwiches, burgers and soup.

They are way better places just a few minutes drive away or a 15min walk away. So, Unless you are nearby here for something else… just go elsewhere. Standard fare at average prices. We had the fish and chips; really nothing special… chips were missing the extra paprika which most Icelandic shops will sprinkle on… they only had a dash… Soup was ok… a lil pricy for the portion IMO
Edwin T — Google review
Fish and chips from Frysthúsid was delicious. Batter was crisp and light, fish was well cooked and moist. Fries were also good, but the fish was the star of the show. Best fish and chips I've had in a while.
Nik C — Google review
While in Reykjavík, the best fish & chips we had. It’s ISK3,100 for a very decent meal that can cover both lunch and dinner, so full. They fish were so fresh and chips sprinkled with paprika was great.
Thomas T — Google review
Since these were pan-fried chips, I was expecting them to be crispy, but they were badly burnt and had a tough texture. If this wasn’t a cooking mistake, then it seems like there may be an issue with the recipe itself. Saying ‘this is how it’s supposed to be’ is hard to accept.

Great food hall! Fish and chips were some of the best I’ve ever had. Light and crispy. Basic setting with big shared tables. Clean and well kept. Many options for food.

Was just walking by and in the “business” district on the water , saw this non descriptive door for a food court. Walked in friendly locals eating there, nice environment. Ordered from the fish vendor and never had such lightly fried fish and shrimp. Quick, tasty and real plates! Stop by after the lava show or fly over Iceland ! Worth it and not that bad of a price !

Icelandic restaurant
Old Iceland is a family-run restaurant located on Laugavegur in Reykjavik, offering traditional Icelandic dishes made from locally sourced produce. Established in 2014 by three brothers, the eatery has gained a reputation for its dedication to highlighting Icelandic ingredients such as wild mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, and fresh seafood. The menu features dishes that showcase the culinary history of Iceland and are beautifully presented.
I recently visited this family owned restaurant and was incredibly impressed with the experience. It's located on one of the main streets in Reykjavik. The ambiance was cozy, casual, and chic, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The food was delicious, from the bread and cod cheek appetizer to the lamb ribeye and filet of cod for the main course. I particularly enjoyed their signature cocktail with Brevinnim, where the caraway was not overpowering; I also noted a subtle caraway flavor in the filet of cod. Additionally, the staff were very friendly.

Walked past this restaurant & saw it was busy but we took a chance and got seated right away for us three. We ordered the lamb, artic fish, salmon tartar and rhubarb cake for dessert and everything was..DELICIOUS! We finished every bite. It felt like a genuine taste of traditional Icelandic food but with a modern and chic taste. Restaurant was lively and although service was between two people, they kept up with the busy atmosphere. Lucky that we stumbled across this place but it was the best dish of the trip!

My friend and I had an exceptional dining experience at Old Iceland restaurant in Reykjavik! The lamb dishes we both ordered were beautifully prepared, tender, and bursting with authentic Icelandic flavors—truly a highlight of our trip. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere perfectly complemented the meal, creating a warm and memorable evening. The staff was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall charm of the place. Old Iceland is a must-visit for anyone looking to savor delicious, high-quality cuisine in a delightful setting. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is extremely popular—always full and often with a line out the door during peak hours. Around 6 p.m., we went without a reservation, expecting to wait, but luckily we were seated right away. We ordered the creamy shellfish soup, pan-fried Arctic char, and fillet of cod. The shellfish soup was rich and packed with the deep flavor of seafood, perfectly warming us on a chilly evening. The Arctic char was beautifully cooked—juicy on the inside with crispy skin that added a delightful contrast in texture. The cod was also tender and fluffy, paired wonderfully with a rich, flavorful sauce. The service was quick and attentive, making for a truly pleasant dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Icelandic cuisine.

Friends recommend Old Iceland and we go to try in our Iceland trip. Foods are delicious, especially the lamb, juicy and soft. We ordered the fish soup which tastes good, not too salty, compared with the restaurants we have eaten. Most restaurants cooked the soup too salty. Price! please don’t compare with the other countries 😓.

Lamb and fish were awesome and really fresh. The smoked lamb is interesting worth trying. Pair it with Icelandic beer and gin. No regrets for sure.
Chris K — Google review
Basket of bread with butter: butter was good but bread was cold!! Why ..?? Entrees: Mussel salad - vegie was amazingly/suprosingly fresh and the vinegret a good match. Mussel not bad with nice spicy, peppery fresh mouth watering over layer. Smoked lamb tartar is a must try with a really smoky but also sauer background while the onion gave it spiciness. Mains: Cod with sauerkraut..excellent!! The deep fried onions were not good. Arctic char with skin on a sauce that i liked. Cauliflower on side and under the Char a good choice. Not sure if they were pickled or fresh n baked. Lamb was tender, tasted well though a bit salty. I did not like the tomato/ketchup sauce. Wine card is adequate and matches greatly to the menu. I missed an alcohol free wine though. Glasses were not in good condition. Staff was stressed and a third waiter would make everything better for everyone.

ABSOLUTELY EAT HERE! It was that amazing we are here twice! The staff were very friendly and went above and beyond! Nothing was too much trouble! The first night we went for a beef steak and then the next night we went for a variety of beef steaks, burgers along with whale and horse steaks! All the food was AMAZING and the best steak that I have ever had! I also have a gluten allergy and the staff were knowledgeable around what could be eaten and there were loads of options! We also celebrated my mums birthday here and the staff definitely added to the celebrations to make special memories.

Simply the best restaurant in Iceland. Not just a Steakhouse. This place tops every single restaurant in Iceland. There's nowhere on this island you'll get a better or higher quality meal. Their steaks are immaculate from their tenderloin to the Icelandic dry aged rib eye aged in house. Their burger is the absolute best in whole of Iceland. Made with offcuts of their steaks. Excellent selection of wines along with incredibly knowledgeable staff. The atmosphere is unmatched and you'll leave like your standard of what a good steak is has been vastly elevated. This restaurant is frequented by locals and is fully booked most nights. I personally visit multiple times a month.

Made a reservation 3 weeks before. We had the mojito and whisky sour which were delicious. We got the scallop appetizer and then I got the lobster tail and my husband got the whale and horse. He loved the whale. My lobster was super delicious, fresh and the salad was also delicious. Would recommend again.

The best lamb I’ve ever had in Europe — and honestly, the best meal of my trip! The lamb was so tender and flavorful that it didn’t even need any sauce. You can really taste the pure, fresh flavor of the meat. The butter corn was also super tasty. This was my first meal in Reykjavik, and I highly recommend it to everyone! It’s a bit pricey, but everything else was perfect. Oh, and the tiramisu was just okay — but the lamb is a must-try!

One of the best restaurants located right near the water. Quiet and cozy atmosphere, with pleasant background music. The waiter is attentive and friendly, and service is fast. The steak was heavenly, very tender, the fries (or chips) were crispy and well-salted, and the dessert was equally delicious. Everything is homemade and freshly prepared. Overall, it is highly recommended and worth visiting again and again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fantastic culinary experience in Reykjavík! The Steakhouse is an absolute must-visit if you're looking for high-quality Icelandic cuisine with a great atmosphere. The highlight for me was trying the whale meat, which was cooked perfectly and full of unique flavor a rare experience you won’t find in many places. The restaurant also offers local Icelandic shots, which were a fun and authentic addition to the meal and made the evening even more memorable. The service was friendly and attentive, and the presentation of every dish was excellent. Prices are fair for the quality, and the whole experience feels both local and special. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Reykjavík who wants to taste something truly Icelandic in a stylish and welcoming setting! 🇮🇸🥩🍷

This lovely little cafe is opposite the bottom of the famous rainbow street. Had a delicious raspberry and marshmallow ice-cream from here. Prices start from £5 per scoop. Many flavours available. You can sit inside and order crepes which unfortunately I didn't have time to taste. But definitely return to try their other flavours on my next trip to Iceland.

An ice cream shop with an interesting atmosphere. Inside, the colorful walls blend well with the sweets sold. Not a lot of space and not much room to sit. The ice cream is big and tasty, but the prices are cosmic. No parking due to the strict center.

It was our first night in Reykjavik, getting late and there wasn’t very much open. The shop smelled amazing and the variety was really nice. They accommodated my daughter’s allergy. The ice cream that came with the crepe was yummy. The crepe however didn’t have as much flavour or filling as I would have expected, given the price. I was disappointed. 2 crepes ended up being over $60 Cdn. Not worth it in my opinion.

The attitude of the lady behind the counter was horrible. I went with my wife wanting to buy their ice cream. We requested to try the flavors and was was told that my sample quota is up on 2nd try.(First try: Pistachio, 2nd try: Rye bread). *Both flavors are horrible*. After asking, I was told that 1 person is only entitled to try 2 flavors. Even if you share the sample, you are also considered tried the sample. So end up, me and my wife only try 2 flavors and we ended up buying the chocolate flavor ones. We went there seeing so many videos on social media recommending it. But honestly, I will not recommend this store at all.

Kolaportið is a bustling indoor bazaar located near the Old Harbor in Reykjavik. It offers a wide array of items, including antiques, clothing, food, and toys. The market is open on weekends and provides a unique atmosphere inside an old industrial building. Visitors can browse through various goods while enjoying protection from the weather. Surrounding the area are tourist attractions such as art galleries, museums, and restaurants.
Sunday we wondered in this market and it was the cherry on top to our trip to Iceland. I recommend to have a good wonder around it. You can find clothes, gifts, jewellery, Handcrafted goods of all sorts, food, books, stamps, cards, candles, incense, soaps, vintage furniture and clothes basically anything you look for :) A big 10/10!

The stalls are all equally priced, so no need to try and find a. Bargain as they've levelled the saying field. A lot of stuff you can buy elsewhere. Another interesting place is the Kolaportið flea market, which is open on weekends. Its name, which means "The Coal Yard," comes from the building's original purpose. Leanne W — Google review
We stopped by Hlemmur Mathöll after seeing several online recommendations, but unfortunately, we left feeling unimpressed. The overall atmosphere felt a bit uninviting, and the space itself seemed somewhat dirty and less well maintained than other nearby food halls. In terms of variety, the options here were noticeably limited compared to other spots in Reykjavík. What also stood out was the poor customer service. Several of the employees came across as rude, and one interaction in particular stood out. A child dropped his fork, and when the mother asked for a new one, the employee was oddly argumentative and reluctant to help. If you are nearby and need a quick bite, it is passable. But with so many better food halls in the area, I would not go out of my way to return or recommend it to others.

I am on vacation in Reykjavik, Iceland and went to crab a bit to eat at Fjarhusid Hlemmur, and please note, THE SERVICE AND THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE!!! I ordered a burger, fries, and a small order of wings. When I went to the counter to pickup my order I asked the waiter if I could have my order to go because I received a call requiring me to immediately meet my wife. The waiter had an attitude with me requesting that my order be prepared for carry out; he stated I should have told them up front , and the next time to do so! I was polite and apologized. I then asked to have my burger cut in half. The cook again got an attitude as though I was asking for too much!! The lady at the register got a knife to cut the burger in half, however, the cook rudely told her “NO,” then snatched the knife from her hand!!!. I said “so you’re not cutting my sandwich in half” and he looked at me and said “NO”; he then and told the lady at the register to hand me my Order. Mind you I had already paid with my credit card so I just took my order and left. When I began to eat the burger the flavor was horrible, and to my surprise, significantly undercooked to the point of being literally raw in the middle as you can see in my attached photo!!! I did not want to walk back to complain because of how I was treated when I initially placed my order. Reykjavík Iceland is beautiful, however, the horrible service, and food at Fjarhusid Hlemmur has left a very bad impression!!! If anyone has plans to visit Reykjavík avoid Fjarhusia Hlemmur restaurant!!! There are many other restaurants in the area with far superior service and food than Fjarhusid Hlemmur!!

They have nice gift shop with a lot of souvenirs. You can easily spend there 2 hours just reading facts and walking around.

I realized how much more important this museum was when I decided to make it a tourist destination. I really appreciate it, and I learned a ton about the Phallological world! It’s definitely a must-see in Iceland! The food was amazing, and the wine was delicious too. .

SO MANY PEENS!!! Def an interesting and educational time. Love the detail in the branding of the museum specifically the table numbers and way-finding signs. They did not skip any details. Also the free lockers were super nice since it was raining when we went.

It was quirky, educational, and surprisingly fascinating. The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavík is unlike any other. With specimens from whales to mice, it offers a unique look at anatomy, evolution, and culture. The exhibits are tastefully presented, blending science, folklore, and a touch of humor. It's weird in the best way—fun, respectful, and definitely memorable. A must-see for the curious traveler!

A truly unique and fascinating museum! The Icelandic Phallological Museum offers an unusual yet educational experience. There is an entry fee, and to access the museum, café, and souvenir shop, you’ll need to walk down a flight of stairs. The collection is extensive and well-displayed, and the overall visit is both quirky and informative. Definitely a memorable stop if you're curious and open-minded!
Pooja A — Google review
Well, let's keep this one close to our vest. We had to see this one of kind museum. Truly educational across species from bats to elephants to whales. Nothing really sordid, but probably best over 18. A nice if expensive bar.
M H — Google review
Not what I expected. A very well created museum of all creatures great and small from shrew to whale and description of not only their privates but also of their diet, mating "rituals" and location. Also impressed by the drawings of each animal-- tastefully done and made the museum very cohesive. Most of the specimens are preserved and overall I was impressed by the overall look and feel of the place. Cute cafe as well.

Cute and cosy cafe attached to a bookstore. Ideal for a rest in-between sight seeing

We stopped here for a coffee which was very good (both espresso and americano). The atmosphere is very cosy, informal, and quiet. If you like being surrounded by books and coffee smell, this is a good place to visit!

Lovely coffee in a super cosy space. The service was excellent! I ordered a filter coffee, and since they were out and it would take 7-8 minutes for a new batch, I was offered a americano in the mean time (there is free refills on filter coffee).

Cute, saucy bookshop/cafe. Cappuccino was great, and just what we needed on a chilly day. We ordered a few bakery items as well. Very delicious. Good stop that doesn't feel nearly as commercial as the surrounding restaurants.

Iða Zimsen café in central Reykjavík seamlessly blend a library / contemporary café aesthetic brilliantly to give a truly unique café experience downtown. There is a very relaxed, cosy vibe here that is really welcome prior to much needed morning caffeination. Their croissants are deliciously flaky and light which went down well with a glorious cup of Americano. Iða Zimsen in Reykjavík is definitely one of my favourite cafés of all time!

Worker was very sweet and friendly and she answered all our questions and helped guide us in the right direction of what we wanted. The donuts are fantastic. Perfect size, nice and warm, not too doughy, just perfect. We got the Dubai chocolate with vanilla ice cream and it was heavenly. Very rich, but fantastic! Worth the hype!

When visiting Reykjavik, make sure to stop by Vöffluvagninn, a bright yellow waffle wagon located near the iconic Hallgrimskirkja church. Indulge in their delicious Belgian-style waffles topped with options like cream and strawberry jam or chocolate sauce. The friendly staff ensures a quick service, with freshly made waffles ready in just 5-10 minutes.
The waffle was great, and the marshmallows were put into all the holes of it. Great. Very good quantity of the toppings, customizable and a low price for Reykjavik standards. I highly recommend stopping by!

The waffles are amazing, they have a ton of options, and you can customize them too. The portions are huge and the price is cheap for Reykjavik. The staff is super friendly!

The girl working there ✨️ served ✨️ me a very sexy waffle (she had dark hair and brown eyes make sure to tip her) the waffle was crispy, the cream was creamy and the Nutella was nutting. Amazing experience 🥰
Sidra S — Google review
Had heard good things about the Waffles and checked the hours posted on Google maps prior to going. Got there around 1600 and there was sign “we open soon” posted in the window. Went to get a hotdog at the nearby truck (delicious, I might add) while we waited for 30 mins, no one showed up. Stopped by multiple times over the next two hours to find it still empty. Highly disappointing.

Waffle cart located right next to Hallgrimskirkja (the church). The waffle by itself is already amazing, but the cream and other toppings such as strawberry syrup/jam or chocolate syrup made it a lot better and sweeter! It’s run by a small staff that usually gets the waffles out in 5-10 minutes, so they are definitely worth the wait and the price!

Delicious tasting waffles. Not much more to say than other than I wish I had a knife to cut them up, but they were quite tasty. Don't forget the cream!

This is actually a food corner with different food vendors to choose from. A lot of locals with family are dining here. A kind of cool place. The dish I had past with shrimp was a Okey. The past is a little under cooked and the shrimps most like were frozen shrimps, and over all is a little too salty.
Felix G — Google review
We loved everything we got at this place. We went to three different vendors. I added images of each place as well as photos with the empty plates as proof. The chicken bread was my personal favorite from Hipstur. The falafel was the best Ive tasted. The pasta place as you walk in is a underrated gem. The atmostphere and customer service was great.

Very new and clean environment for an afternoon chill and hang out with friends. If you have no idea for meal, here they have different choices of cousins. I ordered pan fried fish with risotto, serving with salad and a bread. The taste was good but no surprise, besides the price is fair. However I like the sparkling raspberry drink, very refreshing~

We have eaten here a couple of times over our stay in Iceland. Tonight we tried “ALLES” and we were very pleased. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful in aiding us to make food choices (samples and all)! They are also very kind. The value is good for your money as well. Some recipes are family recipes and the food is hearty and tasty. I recommend the lamb soup! It was the perfect warm meal prior to our northern lights boat tour. The sous vide open faced steak sandwich is also cooked to perfection. Would recommend :) definitely not the kind of food you’d expect to find in a food hall, but we were pleasantly surprised. Thank you!!!

I tried svala bowls because they had a nice 1000kr for a bowl offer and I think that was a great deal. I will be back to try the acai bowl, but the prince charming was very very good. Nestled in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, Aleppo Cafe is a delightful gem that transports you straight to the Middle East. Founded by two talented bakers from Syria, this charming spot offers an array of mouthwatering sweet pastries, including their renowned freshly baked baklava—an Icelandic rarity! The aroma of their sourdough bread mingling with the rich scent of authentic Turkish coffee infused with cardamom creates an inviting atmosphere that's hard to resist.
A wonderful atmospheric coffee shop. There's plenty of space to sit. Decorated in a rather exotic but cute style. Very reasonable prices and amounts. Service is polite and very kind too. The perfect place to wait for car work (a lot of workshops are nearby). Will visit later. The aleppo coffee is especially good. Heard very good things about the pretzels too. The óstalof though wasn't good, basically only bread, no cheese.

We were very excited to try this. As a group, we loved the polar bear (toasted marshmallows) but not the other choices. Ice cream isn’t great (a bit bland, as are the toppings) but we purchased chocolate to bring home and are hoping it’s a bit more interesting.

If you want to try an Icelandic vanilla ice cream in Reykjavik, I suggest that you go there. The place is a bit on the outskirts of the city, but it's worth the visit. You can choose between various toppings and even try their hot chocolate. You also buy chocolate bars of many sorts there, and enjoy your ice cream either inside on a cushion, outside at one of their tables, or as a takeaway if you are on the go.

The best ice cream i've ever had. Simply cant say otherwise, the creaminess, the texture, the mix of tastes, just wonderful. The staff was also really nice, a generous young lady. They really know how to pull up the quality of an ice cream. Strong tastes, delicious and esthetic at the same time. However, we couldn't sit outside due to the smell of trash in the area that came from a nearby container. We had to sit in the car. But one cannot blame Omnom for that. I really recommend you trying their ice cream.

Great little coffee shop, with doughnuts and ham and cheese croissants( they will gladly heat up for you) and over tasty bake goods. Ask about their seasonal coffee and tea flavors which was really good! I have no idea why someone would give them 2 stars for not having more? It’s a great little joint with coffee and coffee house products! It’s serves coffee!?! :)) will go back tomorrow for my coffee!

Enough seats and a cozy environment mixing locals and tourists, unfortunately it disappointed me some how. The team was friendly tho. 1 star missing is because of the coffee. The cappuccino I got is lack of taste and not creamy. As a big brand, I was expecting something better.. Another one missing is that I found out a new roll of toilet paper was on the floor and dirty..

Walking through the streets of Reykjavik and need a quick cup of coffee or just want to warm up for a bit? This place will do. Nice and modern interior. Friendly and helpful staff, but looks like a tourist trap. There was some locals but the place ia a bit crowdy, full of tourist. However if you don't mind, you will get really good coffee, an awsome brownie and banana bread. Latte + cappuccino + brownie + banana bread = £20

Decently sure this is an Icelandic chain, but had good coffee. Crossaint and a latte was about $11 USD which I didn't think was too bad considering that's what I would pay for a Starbucks back home. The Phallic café - bistro is a unique establishment located in Reykjavik, Iceland, adjacent to the infamous Phallological Museum. The museum houses an extraordinary collection of male specimens from various mammalian species found in Iceland and around the world. Visitors can marvel at over 100 foreign species, including whales and even humans. After exploring the museum, guests can head to the cafe for a memorable dining experience.
I didn’t go into the museum but I toured the gift shop which was pretty fun, then I ate their famous waffles with a cup of coffee and it was pretty good. Loved the place. Will go back if I can ❤️
Megui C — Google review
Visited here after touring the museum. The cafe was comfortable, just by the gift shop and plenty of seating available the time we visited. Food wise, it was more average. Both dishes were tasty but very over priced. We expected this to be the case as its obviously a novelty cafe. That said the penis shaped waffles and penis themed drinks were good fun. Coffees again were average but they did have alternative dairy free milks which was great. I had an almond latte. Certainly worth visiting for the novelty aspect but only if your willing to pay the price. Jan 2025.

Two of us went. We each ordered waffles and a drink. Our total was nearly $85 USD. That seems incredibly absurd for breakfast. That said, the waffles were pretty good and the mixed drink was delicious. The hot chocolate was left unfinished, which says a lot for a $20 hot chocolate.

This is a cafe as the part of the museum. As far as the prices go, we paid one cup of drink almost the same price as the entrance ticket to the museum. So, I would say there arr better and cheaper places around to grab a coffee or snack after museum. Coffee was nothing special. Staff was talking in between themselves more than they were foucused on preparing drinks.

A little bit pricey but very tasty waffles. They also sold ginger beer (first place that I found in 4 days). The pumpkin spice latte wasn't great though - tasted more like chai. Edit: Google keeps refusing to post this because "it's a fake review" so I've added a photo of me in the museum (just before the cafe) to prove it's real? Idk.

I busted a nut eating the waffles here. I yearn for the day I can return and consume them again.

Cafe
Tiu dropar Café is a popular and bustling spot that may seem unassuming from the street, but it's a charming and cozy underground café with dim lighting and an intimate atmosphere. It's a hidden gem in the heart of Reykjavik, accessed through a side door and adorned with tea-themed decor. The friendly staff serves up delicious waffles, cakes, and coffee, making it a must-visit for those seeking a sweet treat or a glass of wine in the area.
This is a must-visit when in the area if you're looking for a glass of wine or a sweet dessert, or both. It's set down a level from the main street and you'll have to enter through a side door, but trust me, it's worth it. A cute shop with tea cups and other tea paraphernalia decor, friendly service and waffles that are out of this world.

Lovely cafe in the heart of Reykjavik - you wouldn't notice it if not for the little tea pots peeping up onto the street above - it sits in the basements of the shops above and feels like a real hidden gem when you walk in. The Icelandic teapots and hanging teapot-light are a lovely feature and the staff are very warm and friendly. If it's your first trip to Iceland, try the Applesin (which is actually orange-flavoured soda) or go for the gigantic hot chocolate with a traditional icelandic doughnut, Kleina. Of course at any time of day it's also appropriate to drink Gull, the local beer. We didn't eat but I saw some smashing looking breakfasts and lots of people came here to lounge away the morning, there's free wifi too for those looking to catch up with emails.
