1The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte hotel

Hotel
The Balmoral Hotel, a stunning Victorian building with a central clock tower located at the corner of Princess Street and the North Bridge, is one of Edinburgh's renowned railway hotels. This luxurious spa hotel offers a perfect blend of classic French cuisine and Scottish produce at Brasserie Prince, along with an impressive SCOTCH bar and award-winning afternoon tea served in the elegant Palm Court tea room.
Our son booked us a 2 night stay in the Balmoral for our 30th wedding anniversary and oh my what a fabulous stay we had. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the staff couldn't do enough for us. From the door porter to the all the reception crew, the way we were treated we honestly felt like we were the most important people in the hotel and we were even given a free upgrade to an executive room which was lovely. After giving us an extremely early check in (around 10:30 am) we were taken to our room by one of the porters who insisted on taking our bags for us which was nice. The room was absolutely luxurious, extremely spacious with a huge bed. The huge bathroom was also immaculate. The hotel itself is so luxurious, from the reception area to the bar/restaurant and the amazing Palm Court tea room. Unfortunately we didn't have time to experience the Palm Court as we had other plans but will definitely use it when we return. We used the Bar Prince on a couple of occasions and once again all the staff we encountered were so professional, friendly, polite and immaculately turned out. Over the years years me and my wife have stopped at some lovely hotels around the world but we can honestly say that our experience at the Balmoral was the best we've ever had. We we're so sad when we had to check out but we will definitely be returning to this wonderful hotel in the beautiful city. A huge thank you to Andrew McPherson and his team for making our stay so memorable.

Overall not a bad hotel, however, if staying in the high season I do not see the value for the price. There are plenty of other hotels in the city that are better value. Pros The hotel location is central. The front desk staff and the restaurant team were great. Good check in experience and first night at the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and clean. Cons Noise level extreme, if there are events being held in the hotel with loud music. There was a wedding going on and we could hear music past 12:00 a.m., in our room more than 3 floors up -disappointing given how much you are paying. Likewise, the first room we were in had an adjoining room door in it with extremely noisy when other guests moved into the room beside us - again at the price you are paying this is disappointing. ( I will give credit to the front desk team as I called and they moved us to a different room pretty quickly). Some staff were really great, however customer service was mixed and not consistent. Garbage was left by the elevator for 2 days without being cleaned and a robe in the room had dark brown residue on it. Recommendation If you would like to stay here, perhaps stay during the week and in down season, for a quieter experience.

Lovely hotel centrally located in Edinburgh. Spotless. Elegant. Staff was exceptionally courteous and efficient. Had to leave early due to incoming storm threatening our exit flight. Gave six hours notice but had to pay for the last day per their cancellation policy. Would’ve appreciated the courtesy of forgiving the last day considering the circumstances. Nonetheless, would stay there again on our next trip to Edinburgh

Popped in for a quick lunch between train journeys. Greeted with a lovely concierge service that took care of our cases. Headed to the brassiere for the set menu lunch which was good value for money and really tasty. Wish we could have stayed longer. Amazing staff and service. Thank you.

The best hotel I have ever experienced. They balance luxury and friendly in a wonderful way. Staff are helpful and always seem in good mood. Location is perfect. Tasting menu in Number One restaurant is great. Would definitely revisit again.

Can’t beat the location. Close to the mall, royal mile, and trams. Rooms were immaculate The service was impeccable. Came back to my room and they folded the clothes that was on the ground. Tidied up our cords and provided cord wraps for us. In the evening they provided turn down service, refilled waters/ whatever we needed. The teatime was wonderful, delicious and staff was kind and warm.

Our server Mark during dinner was terrific. Very kind and caring and made sure to do everything possible to make us happy. People like him are what pushes a great dinner to be one to long remembered for years to come.

A truly unforgettable stay at The Balmoral and the best massage of my life! From the moment I arrived at The Balmoral in Edinburgh, I felt like I was in gracious hands. The hotel’s historic grandeur and impeccable location are just the start of what makes it special. Spa & wellness highlight
One of the highlights of my stay was the spa. I’ve had massages around the world, but the treatment I received at The Balmoral was easily one of the most restorative and skillful I’ve ever experienced. (Rare to say that!) Jet lag, tea & kindness
I arrived battling jet lag, and one evening I found myself lingering in the lobby with a bit of fatigue and disorientation. That’s when Ionel and Phillip from the night crew took over—and what an absolute blessing. They brought me a soothing cup of tea, checked in on me, and made me feel seen and welcomed. Their kindness turned a groggy moment into a highlight of my trip. Service, comfort & character
Every inch of The Balmoral whispers luxury and attention to detail. The rooms are elegant, well curated, and comfortable, and throughout my stay the staff offered service that felt truly heartfelt. The only thing I would change is I could hear the other room through a connecting door in the room, so sounds can travel through those adjoining room doors. Food Number one was amazing and the raspberry soufflé was perfect! The breakfast buffet was awesome! Overall
If you want to stay somewhere that feels like a destination in itself, The Balmoral delivers. Between the spa, the unexpected kindness, and the historic beauty, this is one of those stays I’ll remember for years. Highly recommended.

Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel is a classic Georgian building offering refined rooms, chic dining, a full-service spa, and a pool. The hotel exudes an old-world charm with its attention to detail in the decor, featuring prints, maps, and memorabilia that pay homage to the golden age of travel. The well-upholstered Edwardian style rooms are adorned with succulents, letterpress-style illustrations, and even record players for a touch of nostalgia.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our stay at the Kimpton Charlotte Square was nothing short of magical! From the moment we arrived, the team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. Special thanks to Maciek, whose leadership truly shines—he made our experience feel like Magic! Miguel and the rest of the staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and accommodating, creating a lasting impression of true hospitality. The hotel itself is beautiful—elegant décor with a modern twist, comfortable rooms with thoughtful touches, and a relaxing atmosphere throughout. The spa is a real highlight, perfect for unwinding after exploring the city. Dining at BABA was fantastic, with bold flavors and great service, and the breakfast in The Garden was equally impressive. The location couldn’t be better—right on Charlotte Square in the heart of Edinburgh, just steps from Princes Street, shops, and historic attractions. Despite being so central, the hotel feels like a peaceful retreat. Every detail, from the stunning design to the impeccable service, makes Kimpton Charlotte Square stand out as a top-rated hotel. We can’t recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning! Maybe next time with our dog in tow.

Wonderful stay and amazing service! We had an amazing experience at the hotel — everything was perfect from start to finish. The place is beautiful, clean, and very comfortable, but what really made our stay unforgettable was April. She was incredibly kind, helpful, and always went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Thanks to her, our stay was smooth and truly enjoyable. We absolutely loved our time here and would definitely come back. Thank you, April, for making our stay so special!

We had a great 3-day stay at Kimpton! The hotel is so conveniently located that any negatives I had could be easily overridden by its location. We booked it through Amex FHR with IHG platinum status. Highly recommend doing that if you have that option available. The good: - Restaurant “Baba” is actually a good value and not highly overpriced (like most hotel-owned restaurants); - breakfast is fine; if you had it included as part of the Amex FHR offer - then it’s great. But if we had to pay for it - I think you may find a better value elsewhere. Coffee was barista-made and actually pretty good for all-you-can-eat breakfast. - the gym is great; it’s actually quite big for such hotel; variety of equipment was also surprising! But if you like to workout later in the day - you are out of luck - it closes at 9pm… Could be better: - Room views: besides staying through FHR and with Platinum status we don’t get any view upgrades. Not even speaking of room upgrades. So we were looking at a wall (pretty much). The window was also small… maybe we just value a good view too much. But I was really hoping to at least have a street view of any sort. Also the window itself was very small.

I absolutely loved this hotel. Hotel is beautiful, room was well decorated. The spa is divine. Steam room, sauna, incredible gym. Breakfast was amazing. Staff was great, except the older gentleman who checked me in didn’t give me a tour (bummer) but that was quickly corrected by a female bartender when I told her I didn’t know where to find anything. There was a wedding the first night, it was a little loud and the hotel sent me a bottle of wine to apologize for any noise. It was a nice surprise. But it quickly got quiet around midnight. Will definitely return. Only cons: Needs better bathroom lighting Mandatory tours when checking in guest
Taylor H — Google review
Absolutely perfect! The location is ideal. The rooms are impeccable. The staff, wow where to start? From the moment you walk in the staff is extremely welcoming kind and warm. The personnel at the bar is so friendly and fun, Leon & Lauren are the best, what a treat this stay was. I recommend 100%. Can’t wait to go back.
Carolina C — Google review
Amazing hotel even more amazing staff! I injured my back while on a trip to Edinburgh and had to switch from an Airbnb to a hotel. I was in a tremendous amount of pain and the entire staff went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable for over a week. Specifically, I would like to thank Remi, Stephen, and Cameron. The hotel itself is well located, rooms are comfortable, and the spa/gym in the basement are an amazing add on. I’d recommend this hotel and will stay again. Thanks again to the entire staff for showing great care and kindness to an injured solo traveler.
Dan B — Google review
Where can I even start. Everyone on the staff is so friendly and welcoming. From the front concierges/service desk employees to room service. From the minute we walked in to check out was an experience. Our room was perfect. Every single day our room was freshen up by staff. Such a perfect location close to all things, but still in a quiet corner. Next time we’re in town, the Kimpton Charlotte Square will be our first choice!
Joshua F — Google review
We had some issues with the breakfast time, which is different on weekends and weekdays (no one informed us of this). However, Steve from the front desk was extremely helpful after we missed breakfast. He is the kind of guy you expect at a five star hotel. Thank you Steve for making our stay extra special!

The Bonham Hotel is an upscale and art-filled accommodation located in Edinburgh's West End. The hotel offers chic rooms and suites, exuding a stylish and relaxed ambiance. The on-site restaurant and bar provide a historical experience with opulent dining spaces inspired by the art deco period. Guests can enjoy creative cocktails and whisky selections in this glamorous setting.
We stayed here the night before we returned home and it was a lovely way to end two weeks in Scotland. The hotel is gorgeous and very comfortable. Every staff member was attentive and super helpful. The value of the room was also fantastic considering it is a luxury hotel. While we LOVED spending our first few days staying in the Old Town, staying in the New Town was a nice, alternative. We would happily stay here again!
Nina M — Google review
For the Edinburgh leg of our Scotland tour, my husband and I are staying at the Bonham. The hotel is beautiful and our room is very comfortable.Be aware there is no air conditioning, but they do provide Dyson fan that worked perfectly to keep our room a comfortable temperature. There is something I can't put my finger on that feels a little off about the staff both in the hotel and the restaurant - like good service is forced - however, the service we received is definitely acceptable. I would definitely stay here again when (noticed I said when and not if) I come back to this beautiful country!
Sharon C — Google review
Perfection! The most adorable boutique hotel a little off the beaten path so you are away from the hustle and bustle. Absolutely amazing customer service. My daughter left her phone in a taxi and the hotel worked with the taxi service and actually got it back. Nice breakfast. Beautiful bar area.
Andra L — Google review
Outstanding hotel! We had a beautiful room on the third floor with a nice view of the quiet city neighborhood and little park across the street. Great location close to the center of town, but still a very quiet residential neighborhood. Service was excellent.
George T — Google review
We had the most amazing stay here, the service was unbelievable and everyone was so incredibly nice. It was the best dinner we had the entire time we were in Scotland. Beautiful breakfast as well! Highly recommend this hotel.
Kerrie D — Google review
We absolutely loved our stay! The location could not have been more ideal — a quiet, charming street just steps away from great coffee shops, restaurants, and all the must-see spots like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. The atmosphere of the hotel is simply stunning. We were traveling with our one-year-old son, and it truly could not have been a more perfect setup for us. Our room was beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable. One of our favorite parts of the trip was spending cozy evenings in the hotel’s library by the fire with a drink in hand — such a special touch that made the stay unforgettable. We would 100,000% come back and can’t recommend it highly enough!

We stayed in room 100 from July 22-25, 2025. On the day of check-out we found a slip of paper on the floor with handwritten notes calculating our cash. We ignored it at the time, but after returning home we discovered that $1,000 was missing from our backpack. During our stay we never opened that cash. The in-room safe was broken — after five attempts it only showed an error — so we had to keep all valuables in our luggage. We reported the theft and asked for an investigation. The hotel replied that only housekeeping staff and the head housekeeper had accessed our room. To me it is obvious that the theft was committed by hotel staff. This is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel of this level. Even worse, management refused to investigate properly. We will never return. This hotel damages the reputation of the country in which it operates.

The staff in this hotel are thieves! We stayed in room 100. On the day of check-out, we found a small slip of paper on the floor with handwritten notes calculating our cash. We didn’t think much of it at the time and simply threw it away. Only after returning home did we discover that $1,000 was missing from our backpack, even though we had never opened that cash during our stay. The in-room safe was not working. Even after five attempts it showed only an error, so we had no choice but to keep all our valuables in our personal belongings. We reported the theft to the hotel and asked for an investigation. However, the hotel responded that apart from their own staff — a room attendant and the head housekeeper — nobody had entered our room. To me, it is obvious that the housekeepers were responsible for the theft. I find such behavior from staff absolutely unacceptable for a hotel of this level. Even worse, I find it unacceptable that the management did not consider it necessary to properly investigate the situation. We will never stay in this hotel again. This hotel damages the reputation of the country in which it operates.

Eden Locke, George Street is a trendy aparthotel housed in a Georgian townhouse. The hotel offers stylish and vibrant apartment-style accommodations with bright pastel decor, Smeg cookers, and guides to nearby grocers. The ground-floor cafe Hyde & Son serves as the reception area and transforms into a bar with soul and funk tunes in the evening.
Very good hotel! The location is superb - it's just one street away from Princes St. I didn't have to take bus / tram at all during my time in Edinburgh as everywhere was walkable The room is of a great size. But note that: 1) There's no air-conditioning: I came in mid-Sept so it was cool even after closing all the windows, but not sure how it would be in summer 🤔 closing the windows also help with the noise from downstairs - the neighbours can be a bit noisy at night 2) The housekeeping is only done once a week: however, you can ask for fresh towels, toilet rolls, etc if needed. The hotel staff are super responsive and friendly 💯

I booked this hotel on Expedia for my family visiting Edunburgh from overseas. They absolutely loved it and specifically asked me to leave the hotel raving reviews! The location is excellent with everything a walking distance. The rooms are apart-hotel rooms which are very convenient and include a kitchen, pots and pans, washer/dryer, microwave, oven, kettle and toaster . There is a cafe downstairs at the lobby which is great to buy coffee/tea/breakfast on the go.
Bhavana H — Google review
This was my first visit to Edinburgh, and I chose this hotel carefully because of its many positive reviews. I can see why some guests enjoyed their stay — the location is excellent, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the café on the ground floor offers tasty food, even if the menu is small. However, my personal experience was quite different from what I expected. • The room’s layout was quite awkward: the bed was placed directly by the entrance, facing an open storage area for clothes and luggage, which created the feeling of sleeping in a hallway. In addition, the bed was enclosed between two walls, one of which bordered the main corridor, making restful sleep difficult. • There was no air conditioning, and when we opened the windows for ventilation, they faced a narrow stone courtyard that amplified all the sounds from below (the short video attached was taken at night, while we were unsuccessfully trying to fall asleep). • The view was very poor, which was disappointing considering the hotel’s 4-star positioning and price. • The room lighting was dim, creating a gloomy atmosphere. • The bathroom had no ventilation, which was unpleasant for obvious reasons and left towels damp and the mirror constantly fogged. • There was also no socket near the mirror for a hairdryer; the one in the room was too far from the mirror to be practical. • During our three-night stay, housekeeping never came — not even to change towels! Overall, while I appreciate the friendly service and convenient location, the comfort level did not meet my expectations for a 4-star hotel. I’m glad others had a better experience, but unfortunately, I would not stay here again.

Pricey but worth it for the amazing location. I stayed in a suite on the ground floor. Loved the chic decor. It was also awesome having a small kitchen space and living room - perfect for evenings where you want to stay in and drink hot chocolate, watch movies, or read a book. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend!

I stayed at one of the Locke hotels in Berlin earlier in the year and was so excited to stay at the Edinburgh one, however I was so disappointed. I booked the studio, and even though the room was okay (pretty large), I was given dirty towels? They were literally covered in what seemed to be make up. After this I was icked out about staying there, just imagining whether the sheets were even changed. The overall property looks so old and worn, and does not even match the vibe of the Berlin one. I’m pretty sure this isn’t an old chain of hotels either. In addition, although I had a corner room, it’s SO loud. I got woken up so many times at 6am. Lastly, similar to Berlin one, there is a cafe on site. The issue is you have to walk through it to get to your room and 4 times that I was coming back up to my room I got approached by the staff of the cafe asking me if I wanted to sit in or takeaway. Like no, I just want to go to the room I paid for? Overall I was really disappointed. I don’t think I’ll be staying at a Locke property again. Save your coins, it’s not worth it. Only good thing is the location, but there are plenty of other (better) hotels around that area.

After having stayed in Whitworth Locke before in Manchester and having such a good experience, we decided to book this hotel in Edinburgh for my birthday trip! And we’re so glad we did! The rooms are beautiful as they always are in Locke hotels, the cafe downstairs was great. And staff were lovely and friendly! The lady that checked us in was particularly incredible! After having a sleepless night we arrived to the hotel a lot earlier than check in time and we were dreading having to stay out all day running on empty. We asked if there was any chance early check in was available and she allowed us to check in a lot earlier as our room was ready! We were really grateful for this and really appreciate hotels that offer little extras for guests! Thank you :)

This is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a bit more space! We loved the layout of our room and the staff was excellent. Great location, just tucked away enough to be away from the main city streets but close enough to get to everything you need. We did find that the room was a bit hot but opening the windows during the day helped a lot. Our room did back into the shared quad where one of the bars was, you could hear people chatting a bit but if you hand the window closed it was fine! The one issue we had was the noisy-ness of the bed. It was super creaky. Overall a great stay.

A secret gem in the middle of everything. The staff of the reception was helpful and professional, reception desk with coffee store give a charm and efficient atmosphere. The room was new, clean and tidy. Definitely a place to stay for your visit to beautiful Edinburgh.

Fingal is a luxurious hotel ship located in Leith, Edinburgh. This reclaimed ocean vessel offers elegant dining options, a cocktail bar, and a ballroom for overnight guests and diners. The glamorous surroundings evoke the golden age of ocean travel, with art deco dining rooms and outdoor deck seating. The Lighthouse restaurant celebrates maritime heritage with shimmery hammered copper ceilings and exclusive leather booth seating.
Stayed at The Fingal in luxury duplex room…….upon arrival we were greeted by a meticulously attired crew who went out of their way to be helpful…… The room and facility’s were exceptional…. The evening meal, and breakfast were excellent and once again the service was excellent…….. the way that the ship is structured with viewing gantry of the old engine room etc is SO well done…… for a stay with a difference this experience is A MUST…. The level of service of the staff should be used as a measuring stick to other establishments ……. Well Done……. A very impressed Aussie family thank you!!

Our stay at Fingal was absolutely exceptional. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The food at The Lighthouse Restaurant was the best we had in Edinburgh – truly unforgettable. The hotel itself is quiet, quaint, and beautifully restored, offering such a unique experience on this historic boat. We loved the thoughtful touches – a champagne bottle waiting in our room upon arrival and nightly turndown service with chocolates. Everything felt special and carefully curated. This hotel is a must-stay in Edinburgh. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing stay. Cabin was gorgeous, immaculately clean, with hugely stocked fridge. The staff were all perfect, customer service is 10/10, we couldn’t have been treated better. Breakfast was beautiful, compliments to the chef. Loved being able to go out onto the deck from our cabin. Highly recommend. So easy to get into Edinburgh centre, with tram stop 2 minutes away & trams coming along every 5 minutes. Xx

A Truly Exceptional Anniversary Stay at the Fingal I had the pleasure of staying at the Fingal for my anniversary, and the entire experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, offered an early check-in, and shown to a stunning room. The handwritten note and chocolates were a thoughtful personal touch that set the tone for a memorable stay. The attention to detail in the rooms is outstanding – from the luxury toiletries to the evening turndown chocolates and the beautifully curated tea tray. Breakfast was equally impressive, with staff more than happy to tailor the menu to suit personal preferences. As a travel agent, I can confidently recommend the Fingal to clients seeking a romantic escape, a luxury getaway, or a truly unique hotel experience. The ship’s Engine Room is a fascinating preservation of history, and the included admission to the Royal Yacht Britannia is an absolute highlight – not to be missed. The ballroom is also decorated beautifully for functions/weddings. This hotel delivers five-star service, a distinctive setting, and staff who go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels special. I look forward to returning and will be enthusiastically recommending the Fingal to my clients.

First. Class. From start to finish. A warm welcome at reception. Rooms are highly finished. Staff are what makes this place stand out for me. From Karis and Jeannette in the restaurant to Matt the head barman. Everyone was outstanding and a credit to the ship. Food - incredible. Red deer - outstanding. Whiskies - excellent. Porridge brûlée - insane. Brilliant.

Absolutely Amazing. From the moment we stepped onto the red carpet we were greeted and treated like Royalty. Our 40th wedding anniversary couldn't have been any better. Everything was to the finest standards and nothing was to much, From getting into our room and seeing feeling and smelling the quality of everything. The food was excellent, with quality wines and whiskeys, Relaxing on deck away from any hustle and noise was simply stunning. I can't recommend the Fingal highly enough, Absolutely 5☆

We booked the bridge room for our mum's 90th birthday and it was absolutely fantastic. Food was stunning and they even offered a child menu for my fussy grandson who was delighted with the food. Staff couldn't do enough and so informative about the food and the ship. My mum is still talking about it. Thank you for an amazing night to remember, beautiful setting for pictures also.

The Gleneagles Townhouse, a luxurious spa resort in Perthshire, has been recognized for its ESPA Life Spa by Luxury Hotels of the World. The spa offers a wide range of traditional treatments like wraps and massages as well as holistic services such as ayurvedic inspired therapies.
A lovely dinner in Edinburgh Took a visiting friend out for dinner and stumbled upon a gem of a restaurant. The dining experience was wonderful from start to finish. The space is grand—with soaring ceilings and elegant artwork all around (regret not snapping a few interior photos!). I walked in slightly nervous about the dress code (I was in jeans and trainers—hadn’t checked the website!), but there was no issue at all. We were warmly welcomed. The food? Absolutely delicious. I had the market fish of the day, and it was beautifully prepared. Portions were just right—satisfying without being too much. The desserts were a highlight too: flavourful, not overly sweet, and just the right size to indulge without guilt. Highly recommended if you’re in Edinburgh and looking for a quiet, refined spot for a relaxed evening out.

Absolutely amazing hotel! Located right in the heart of Edinburgh, at a walking distance of all major attractions in the city. We were staying at The Gleneagles Hotel before coming to the Gleneagles Townhouse, so we knew the hotel will have to be as grand and beautiful as its parent hotel, and we were absolutely right. We checked in, though they didn’t have bellboy trollies/carts, the staff was readily available to help with the luggage and golf clubs. Check-in was smooth, super friendly staff. Our room wasn’t ready, so they stored the luggage for us and found it in our room when we walked into it. Our room was very beautiful, though a bit small, but it was as expected in any big city. The room comes with luxury amenities, it has everything you could possible need. I loved the bathroom! It has heated floors and just beautifully designed. The bathrobes and slippers were divine! They have a wonderful rooftop that is only available for guests or members, which I love that exclusivity part of it. Gorgeous views from the rooftop, perfect for an afternoon cocktail as you get the afternoon sun. The hotel has many beautiful corners and public rooms available for guests, beautifully decorated. The staff was incredibly helpful, I loved the fact they sourced a private meeting room for my boyfriend as he had to take a virtual work meeting and our room wasn’t ready, thankfully our room ended up being ready just before his call started. If you will be driving, just noted they do not have parking in the premises, I am sure they will suggest where to park, this was not an issue for us as we have private transportation arranged.

As someone who’s grown up going to Gleneagles (the main one not townhouse), I thought I’d book this one for a change, for my birthday celebrations. I have travelled to the main Gleneagles and taken my cat who stays in many luxury hotels across the UK without issue. I do always let the hotel know prior out of courtesy and this was the case when attempting to book Gleneagles Townhouse. The lady on the reservation line was helpful and communicated with a manager at the Townhouse who simply refused to let me stay with my cat who always remains in the room.. so what’s the issue? The manager refused to give a reason or explanation, despite this being a pet friendly hotel. Even the reservation line lady felt embarrassed and agreed that I should feed it back. I emailed the GM who was quick to reach out but when I told him what my issue was, he ignored me for over a month and only followed up when I said I’d be cancelling other trips, and leaving a review. Again he chose to ignore when I asked for an explanation. This is not the level of service I expect or am used to from Gleneagles and it’s discriminatory and disappointing. If we are guests have to put with the smell and hair and barking of dogs in areas of the hotel, why would a cat who is simply staying in the bedroom I have paid for, be an issue? They don’t offer an explanation as they have none as it’s discrimination. The fact that the main gleneagles have let me stay with my cat is even more embarrassing for the brand. I think they need to reevaluate how the Edinburgh one behaves and offers service as it’s shocking and I simply wouldn’t recommend when you have other amazing hotels close by such as the balmoral and witchery.. both of which know how to offer amazing service

We stayed one night at Gleneagles Townhouse at the end of a long trip, and it was the perfect finale. The property has a stellar reputation, and in this case, it truly lived up to it. From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional. Richard welcomed us warmly at the door and immediately set the tone — gracious, attentive, and genuinely kind. Patrick at the front desk was equally wonderful the next morning, ensuring every detail of our stay felt effortless. The staff throughout the hotel were not only professional but personable in a way that made the whole atmosphere feel both luxurious and human. The building itself is beautiful, with the elegant charm you’d expect from Gleneagles but in a more intimate, city setting. It’s an interesting mix — part boutique hotel, part members’ club, part co-working space — yet it all works seamlessly. You feel like you’re part of something special the moment you walk in. Dinner at The Spence were both excellent (shout-out Jay), and the space itself is stunning. Every corner of the property seems to have been designed with care and taste, down to the smallest details. I was traveling with my father-in-law, who doesn’t often visit places like this, and even he was completely won over by the warmth of the team and the comfort of the experience. All in all, Gleneagles Townhouse exceeded expectations on every level. I couldn’t recommend it more highly to anyone visiting Edinburgh — whether for a special occasion, a stopover, or simply to treat yourself.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Wonderful Experience at Gleneagles Townhouse I recently became a member at the Gleneagles Townhouse and have absolutely loved it so far. The gym is fantastic, the workspaces are beautiful and comfortable, and I’ve enjoyed a few relaxing drinks up at Lamplighters — it’s such a great spot. I also had the pleasure of staying in one of the rooms recently, and it was just gorgeous — elegant, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. Every staff member I’ve met has been so welcoming and helpful, which really makes the experience special. I especially want to mention Eva from the turndown service, who was incredibly kind and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed, from extra waters to tea bags and coffee. Her warmth and attentiveness truly stood out and made my stay even more enjoyable. Overall, I couldn’t recommend Gleneagles Townhouse more — it’s a beautiful place with a wonderful atmosphere and an exceptional team

We were so looking forward to our lunch at the restaurant. Expecting a 5 star service an excellent food. We were disappointed on both counts. My starter was blank and my main course was OK. At a lunch cost of £72.50 each for 2.5 courses. I don’t have a desert. My friend had a single scoop of ice cream. No fruit or wafer not the standard you would expect for this type of restaurant. We were not asked if we enjoyed our meal until we were paying the bill. We were advised the menu changes all the time - I’m sure it does but we will not be back to experience it. Also have to say the service was poor. No member of staff engaged with us. We were glad that we tried the restaurant but given the number of restaurants in Edinburgh that offer excellent food and service we most definitely will not return.

An amazing place for a getaway — whether as a couple or with family. The rooms are absolutely stunning, with refined design. There’s a jacuzzi, a sauna, a view of the lake, and a fireplace. It’s impossible to list everything that adds to the comfort and the truly heartfelt service. The food is delicious — dinner was simply outstanding, incomparable, worthy of many stars. The hosts are truly passionate about their place — they put not only their money into it, but also their heart and soul. I would definitely go back. I was there with my husband, and I would love to return with my children for a few days to enjoy it all again.

Unless you’re eating in the “Spence” you’ll be offered a daft perch of a seat ie the sort that one finds in a Venice espresso bar ( a quick slurp and you’re off) Two glasses of champagne and a mediocre chocolate pud and we left. Incessant disco beat and clothes smelt of fat from the oh so fashionable open kitchen….5 star , they’ve no idea!

Guests can unwind at the fashionable bar, The Huxley, or enjoy gourmet dining at the on-site steak restaurant, Kyloe.
Beautiful small hotel. Only a handful of rooms which makes it feel more friendly and included. Really nice rooms and would recommend the castle view rooms as it has a stunning view. The breakfast is lovely at the Huxley as well. All round amazing hotel. Would definitely visit again!

Such a great spot in the city centre of Edinburgh! It is at the same time, fancy, posh and handy, and also well renovated, especially for the wide and luminous flats next door the main building. Good balance between price and quality, helpful and welcoming services and personnel ! I strongly recommend ! The restaurants the Huxley and Kyloe are the cherry on the cake for this hotel🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We stayed at Rutland Hotel earlier this year. While the hotel itself was nice, the service left us very disappointed. When we arrived, the staff refused to honour our online booking, saying they no longer use that platform. We had to argue our case just to be accommodated, which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. Things got worse after checkout. The staff confirmed there were no extra charges, but a few days later £160 was taken from my account without warning, supposedly for some shampoo bottles. It was an honest misunderstanding, and we even posted the bottles at our own expense, with confirmation they were received after a few days. Despite this, no refund has ever been issued. To make matters worse, the hotel later made a false accusation that we “stole” a painting, which is an outrageous and baseless claim that could easily be disproven by CCTV. Six months on, our emails and refund requests are still being ignored. Overall, what could have been a great stay turned into a stressful and frustrating experience. Very unprofessional service.

Patrick B — Google review
I had been saving up all year for our first anniversary, I started looking at hotels with a budget of £500-600 for 3 nights. When I found The Rutland on booking.com I was thrilled, an advertised big bath and castle views shown in the photos, I decided to stretch out my budget to an eye watering £900 for 3 nights in order to surprise my wife. When we got there we had to fight through a barrage of drunk people on the stoop and stand around for 20 minutes because their card machine was having issues. It was 11 at night, we could have resolved this in the morning. To be clear, I had actually called earlier in the week and said it was our first anniversary and asked if they could do something special for us, I’ll admit I didn’t ask for anything particular like the bath or castle views but nor did I think I had to with the amount we had paid! When we got upstairs we had a small room, one that definitely was not advertised, no castle views and no bath. I was absolutely gutted, I felt embarrassed as I had promised my wife I had went all out. On top of that when I complained about the false advertising they gave us 2 complimentary drink vouchers which they didn’t tell us were promotional items for a certain gin and tonic. Thankfully the staff at the restaurant accommodated and apologised, they have decent customer service. We also complained on the first night and was promised they would look into changing our rooms. Nothing was done, we had to follow up. When you pay this amount you’re used to staff going above and beyond. Quite frankly the room was not anywhere worth the price and the whole experience made me feel entirely ripped off, forgotten and discarded. We will not be returning, I would have appreciated a refund as this was quite frankly false advertising.

Really enjoyed our stay here, was nice to be in our own apartment but still have it serviced every day! Well stocked kitchen and mini bar with lots of choice, daily free waiter and milk for teas and coffees Beds and pillows were very comfortable and nil outside noise during night. We were on top floor and although only two flights of stairs it might be hard going if you have knee/back problems. All staff we encountered were lovely and approachable

The Royal Mile is a bustling street that connects Edinburgh Castle with Holyrood Palace, offering a mix of charming eateries, shops, and historic landmarks. This iconic thoroughfare in the UNESCO-listed Old Town provides a sensory journey through Edinburgh's rich history and modern-day allure. Visitors can explore hidden alleyways, traditional pubs, and intriguing museums while enjoying street performances and storytelling sessions. The area appeals to history enthusiasts, shopaholics, food lovers, and families with children.
My Visit to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh – A Walk Through History Walking along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh was one of the most fascinating experiences of my trip. Stretching from the Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, this historic street perfectly captures the soul of the city — full of charm, culture, and centuries of history in every step. The cobblestone streets, old stone buildings, and lively street performers create a wonderful atmosphere. Every corner has something interesting — from souvenir shops, whisky tasting rooms, and cozy cafés to hidden closes and historic landmarks. I especially enjoyed browsing the small local stores selling Scottish tartans, shortbread, and handmade crafts. You can easily spend hours here exploring side alleys, visiting St. Giles’ Cathedral, and listening to bagpipers playing traditional tunes. The views of the city from the upper end near the castle are breathtaking, especially around sunset. Visitor Tips: • 🕰️ Visit early morning to enjoy quiet streets or late afternoon for a lively, festive vibe. • 📸 Don’t miss photo stops near St. Giles’ Cathedral, John Knox House, and the Castle Esplanade. • 🛍️ Try local shops for authentic souvenirs instead of the tourist stalls. • ☕ Enjoy a coffee or whisky at one of the historic pubs or cafés along the way. • 👣 Wear comfortable shoes — it’s a long, sloping walk with uneven cobblestones. The Royal Mile isn’t just a street; it’s an open-air museum where every building and stone tells a story. It’s the heartbeat of Edinburgh and a must-visit for anyone who wants to feel the true spirit of Scotland.

Walking along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip, because it felt like the very heart and soul of the city. Stretching from Edinburgh Castle at the top to the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom, this historic street is packed with history, character, and energy at every step. The cobblestone streets, the narrow closes, and the centuries-old architecture give you the feeling that you are walking through living history, yet at the same time the street feels vibrant and modern with shops, restaurants, and street performers bringing it to life

Everything in the city is walking distance. Absolutely worth a visit plenty to see. The surgeons and national museum are so large 2 and 3 hours respectively. The castle is beautiful and the weather was decent for November

Edinburgh is such a lovely place. I’m back here for the second time, and it truly feels like my peaceful city — my lovely city. I don’t even have the words to describe how much I love it. It feels like home, like family. Every time I’m here, I feel comfortable and warm. The people are all so friendly. Oh my God, what a beautiful city! ❤️

Wonderful experience to see the town. A long walkway with lots of sights. Souvenirs shops everywhere for you to pick up some cashmere, or woolly scarf. Lots of restaurants along the route which can get busy at times so might need to pre-book for dinner. Entertainers scattered along the path playing bagpipes or dressed up for photos. Great experience and you should definitely see it at least once.

Walking along the Royal Mile was an amazing experience that felt like stepping back in time. The cobbled streets, historic buildings, and lively atmosphere created a perfect blend of culture and charm. I enjoyed exploring the many shops, cafés, and traditional pubs that lined the street, each adding its own character. I also loved discovering landmarks along the way, from St. Giles’ Cathedral to the various closes and courtyards that revealed hidden gems of Edinburgh’s past. The Royal Mile was vibrant, full of life, and rich in history, making it one of the highlights of my visit.
Mohsin R — Google review
The Royal Mile is arguably the most talked-about destination in Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful stretch of street that connects to Edinburgh Castle. Depending on the season, the area can get quite crowded. From cobblestone streets to historic buildings, it feels like you’re walking back in time. There are also many street performers and souvenir shops that could easily fill a whole day. While it’s beautiful, it’s definitely not for those who hate crowds. Compared to some heavily touristy destinations, it’s still manageable. Overall, I highly recommend adding the Royal Mile to your bucket list. You should also visit some of the other places within the mile, such as Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, and Tron Kirk.

I booked a dinner to celebrate my birthday with my family and chose to dine in the restaurant area. It was an early Monday evening, and the venue was quiet, providing a calm and comfortable atmosphere. To begin, we enjoyed a glass of champagne and a non-alcoholic drink, accompanied by BBQ-style chicken wings and prawns served in a buttery sauce. While the prawns were fresh, they were regrettably bland and lacked any distinctive seasoning or depth of flavour. For the main course, we ordered one chicken pie and two portions of grilled lamb. Unfortunately, the lamb was underwhelming — it contained very little meat and an excessive amount of fat, making it unappetising and overly oily. Although I am not a vegetarian, the dish was simply too greasy to enjoy. This was particularly disappointing given that my previous two visits to the restaurant had been pleasant experiences. We also ordered three glasses of red wine, and the total bill came to £145.81. Considering the quality of the meal, this felt overpriced. Sadly, based on this experience, I would not recommend the restaurant for future dining.

Market Street hotel is a stylish accommodation option in Edinburgh, conveniently located near Waverley train station. The hotel boasts a modern design that combines Scandinavian and Scottish influences. Guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property. One of the highlights is the rooftop champagne bar, offering stunning views of Balmorals clock tower and the New Town. As part of the Carlton Hotel group and a member of Design Hotels, Market Street hotel upholds high aesthetic standards.
We stayed here for 3 nights and had an absolute blast! The room was very tidy and clean and included bath slippers and robes. The hotel service was perfect, especially at the restaurant! We had to leave early on our last day so we could not enjoy the breakfast buffet (which is an amazing buffet!), so they prepared a breakfast box for each of us to take with us on our way back. We had some complications with food allergies, but they handled this perfectly. Location was perfect for walking to most sight seeing spots in Edinburgh. The hotel is very central, but still very quiet, which was for us the perfect combination. We would definitely recommend staying here!!

We arrived by train and walked out the station and our hotel was literally across the street, we walked down two businesses and up the steps to be right on the Royal Mile and Victoria Street is also within walking distance. The staff were amazing, start your day with a wonderful selection of breakfast from meats, chesses, sourdough bread, fish, fruit, yogurt or even cereal but the menu boasts the best Scottish porridge and many other options. Enjoy your champagne you're on holiday! The staff had wonderful suggestions for local finds. We loved this place and the beds were very comfortable!

Wonderful hotel with a very helpful concierge and excellent location very close to the Royal Mile. The rooms are a bit cozy, but well appointed with narrow but very cool views. Breakfast is pricey but good and surrounded by great views of Edinburgh from just about every seat. If it's in your budget, Market Street Hotel is a great option. It's also directly across the street from the Waverly train station, which is very convenient.

Rooms are small, most around 400sq feet or less, but cozy. Location is great, close to the city center. The walk back to the hotel is easy because it's downhill from most places. Rooms are clean and modern, the beds are comfortable, and it is one of the few hotel rooms with enough lights in the to see what you are doing. Everything worked well, but the shower stall leaked water and flooded the bathroom floor while showering. Nice place overall.

Great location across the street from Waverly Station and close to attractions in the old town. The room lacked a desk, which I think is essential furniture. I had a beautiful view of two dumpsters on the street. The room was pointlessly high tech with a key card reader just to turn on the lights and too many light switches. The free drinks in the fridge were nice, though, and the room was quiet.

Market Street is a fabulously modern boutique hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh. The staff are exceptionally helpful, and the hotel offers wonderful views overlooking the city. The location couldn’t be better — close to everything, yet peaceful and quiet. The beds are comfortable, the atmosphere is relaxed, and overall it’s a fantastic place to stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff was super accommodating when we arrived early to check in and when we wanted to reschedule our breakfast reservation multiple times. Room was comfortable with a great view of the city. Breakfast was delicious and the bar was really nice with great views of the city as well. Also located close to all the shops and restaurants.

Walking distance to all the major landmarks and right across from Waverly station. . Lovely room with complimentary mini bar, stocked with local favorites. I appreciated the glass of prosecco at check-in, a lovely welcome after traveling. The only off-putting aspect was the pervasive smell of burnt toast throughout, which woke me up thinking something was on fire.

House of Gods Hotel in Edinburgh is a luxurious boutique hotel with cozy and dramatic rooms, as well as an opulent suite. The hotel boasts distinctive interior design inspired by the elegance of the Orient Express and the Chateau de Versailles, featuring classic oak paneling and deep red furnishings. The rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as flatscreen TVs, marble-clad bathrooms, Nespresso machines, and cocktail bars.
My husband and I stayed here for one night and immediately wished we had booked a longer stay. The rooms are absolutely stunning, and the customer service is top-notch—so quick, helpful, and genuinely kind. If you book directly through the hotel, you’re greeted with complimentary champagne at check-in, plus a tray of milk and cookies in the evening and a breakfast basket in the morning. So many thoughtful perks at a very reasonable price. The only downside was the size of the room. We had large luggage, and the space did feel a bit cramped. If you’re traveling light, it wouldn’t be an issue, but if you have a lot of bags, I’d recommend upgrading to one of the larger rooms. Also, the windows aren’t real windows—they’re a light panel that mimics the outdoor lighting. I was a little worried that it might feel claustrophobic, but it didn’t at all. I highly recommend staying here. My husband and I will absolutely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Can't recommend enough! Great location in Old Town, service was superb! We booked the Mimosa Morning booking, the butler delivered milk & cookies at night along with the breakfast hamper in the morning were delicious. Thank you for having us xx

We only visited the bar. I really liked the atmosphere and design it’s stylish, unique, and a relaxing place to spend time. The drinks menu is great, with a large selection of non-alcoholic options too, which I really appreciated. The only downside was the staff, who felt a bit not that welcoming and could have been more friendly and engaging. Overall though, it’s a lovely spot and worth visiting for drinks.

Lovely wee comfortable room just off the Royal Mile, staff were super helpful and friendly, and welcome drink was greatly appreciated. We partook in the evening cookies and milk offer and the breakfast basket was very generous and delish. Parking is a bit of a walk, recommend dropping bags at reception before heading to the Holyrood NCP parking lot.

Came here for my 30th as I have had my eye on it for a while. Positives Friendly staff and nice drinks, the bed is comfortable and you can watch Netflix, Prime, etc. You can contact staff on WhatsApp and they are very fast and responsive. Unfortunately, that is all that was good about it. The rooms are ridiculously small. We had to take turns getting ready to go out; one of us would sit on the bed while the other got ready. There is no wardrobe, only a small drawer under the bed. They fill your room with balloons, for which there is no space. It is so dark, making it hard to get ready and find your things. God forbid you go shopping and bring things back with you, as there is nowhere to put them. The room gets very cluttered very quickly. The bathroom again is tiny and after using the shower, a disgusting cat pee smell came up from the drains. I told the staff about this, to which they said they would drain our bathroom when we were out and that they "knew exactly what it was." There is no window for fresh air; the whole hotel in general is stuffy. The air conditioning, however, did work fine. The beds have regular pillows and also big, fancy cushions and a thick throw over the top. I would be interested to know how often those get cleaned and replaced. Another slightly annoying thing was that I found out I was pregnant after booking (the booking was nonrefundable). So, we let them know prior to coming if it was okay to switch out my drinks to mocktails, to which they were absolutely fine with. However, when we got there, every drink they brought as part of the package was alcoholic and had to be switched out. Not a major deal, but we did tell them so it was a little annoying. So unfortunately, I would not recommend. I really wished we had stayed somewhere else as it did taint the trip. For the price my partner paid, it is 100% not luxury and I’m gutted he spent that much. As friendly as the staff are, you are not treated the way a real luxury hotel would treat you.
Megan G — Google review
Very disappointed to say the least. If the room was any smaller there wouldn’t have been room for a bed, we had the treat me like I’m famous package and it is not worth a single penny. The bathroom is that small when having a shower the whole floor is soaking. Also make sure to take ur night vision goggles for when you leave the room.
Bradley W — Google review
Location excellent. Beds very comfortable. Rooms are very nicely decorated. A unique experience. But the rooms are very very small, with no windows. Okay for a 1 night stay. Breakfast hamper was surprisingly filling.

I am here to review the cocktail bar as didn't stay but would like to in the future. We had a really warm welcome and the atmosphere was lovely. The cocktails we had from the menu were amazing and the lovely staff member Africa went out of her way to make something off menu. Her white russian was the best my partner has ever had and she customised my old fashioned to my preference. Thanks for the olives!

InterContinental Edinburgh the George, an IHG Hotel, is a historic establishment dating back to 1881. Housed in five Georgian townhouses from the 18th century, it offers modern and stylish accommodations with free Wi-Fi. The decor of the rooms draws inspiration from 19th-century Scottish landscape paintings, featuring a cool palette and leather accents.
Did a lot of research before booking to find a good hotel near the things we wanted to see and do. The hotel is great, and the staff phenomenal. Our room was elegant, clean and comfortable. It had all the amenities you would expect. The service was impeccable, we had a very minor issue with the bathroom fan, we mentioned it to the front desk and it was fixed immediately. All the main places to see were within walking distances and it was very close to the hop on hope off busses which is convenient. I highly recommend choosing this hotel for you stay in Edinburgh.

The George is a wonderful as well as iconic Edinburgh hotel. I've had the pleasure of staying there repeatedly over the last 15 years. The warmest, welcoming staff, and a glorious restaurant serving up a really-gets-the-day-going breakfast. The lunch and dinner menu is diverse and very tempting, with the freshest, seasonal produce and an excellent wine list. There's a quiet, exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed business lounge, if you're in Edinburgh for business. A very special shout-out to Trevor, David and Monika who help me feel special, make every stay a pleasure, and treat me like an old friend.
Elizabeth V — Google review
I was expecting a five-star experience. Disappointing. This is a four-star hotel at best, maybe on star broken. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lounge is pleasant but not hugely inviting. The corridors are worn and a bit tired. Rooms are small but well-maintained. Breakfast room is okay but not outstanding. I paid a lot to stay here, I thought. I was really excited to arrive, expecting a luxury experience. Location is terrific within easy walking distance of the Scottish National and not too far from the Royal Mile etc. We loved our time in Edinburgh but this hotel was sadly a rather low point.
Steve W — Google review
One of the best InterContinentals I've stayed at in the world as a Diamond Elite Ambassord. Only removing one star because the water does not get hot if you are in certain rooms. I was told this was because certain parts of the building are over 250 years old. Not an excuse - insulate the water lines or install tankless boilers in each room that is impacted. One would expect to always have hot water for a shower at an IHG but here is not the case. Aside from the water issue everything else in the hotel is fantastic and the staff are great.

This is a beautiful historic hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. The location is perfect for exploring New Town and Old Town, and only a block from the train station. The staff was lovely helpful and particularly a shout out to Adam behind the bar. He was witty, attentive and a constant source of interesting stories about the city. Because of him we ended most evenings with a nightcap in the bar. The included breakfast was a easy way to start the day before heading out to explore. We hope to return at a time when the Fringe is done and life is a little quieter but the energy was great.
Joel M — Google review
Great location and a wonderful building. The outstanding aspect of this hotel is the wonderful, helpful and friendly staff. During our visit we didn’t come across anyone who was grumpy or unfriendly. A few more amenities would be nice but suspect there isn’t much the hotel can do with the constraints of the current building. Guests can head across to the Kimpton to use the spa, pool and gym. I was somewhat surprised that our room had a shower and not a tub but that isn’t a reason not to stay.
VJ — Google review
We stayed in the George for 2 nights mid week. It wasn't what we expected at all. The staff in the hotel are extremely friendly and courteous, a credit to.the hotel. Unfortunately, that was all that impressed us on.our stay. We were in a twin room with breakfast included, cost us £825 for the 2 night stay. Expensive I thought but it must be good for that price. Not the case. Our room clean but was disappointingly small. The shower screen leaked, the bathroom had no window and the extractor fan was broken. We had breakfast on 2 mornings, the first morning we waited at least 40 mins to be served our omelette. This is a nice hotel but far removed from.the image that is portrayed on the Internet. I do not think it is value for money and will not be returning to the George
Mark W — Google review
The location of this hotel is excellent and the staff were very attentive and professional. However, our sleep was disrupted daily. The first room we had was on the second floor at the back, without any view. We were woken up every morning at 6:45am by a massive delivery lorry with constant noise for about 30 minutes. We complained to reception and they moved us to another room on the sixth floor facing another direction, which they said would be quiet. The view from the room was blocked by a huge structure (see photo) but, again, at around 6:45am, we were woken up by noise from a big vehicle, probably coming to empty the bins and, again, the activity lasted for about 30 minutes.

Prestonfield House Hotel is a luxurious and elegant five-star hotel located just five minutes from Edinburgh city center. Set in 20 acres of lush gardens near Arthurs Seat, the hotel offers a romantic and tranquil escape with peacocks roaming freely. The opulent rooms are adorned with rich colors, velvet cushions, and marble bathrooms, creating an extravagant boudoir ambiance.
One trip has put this spot at the top of our permanent vacation spot. This hotel is absolutely above and beyond and well deserving of its 5 stars. From the moment you pull on the grounds you’re greeted with the most incredible service that pair right along with the breathtaking grounds and estate. Everyone on staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful day and night. We felt catered to in every way. The hotel itself is literally beyond description and something you cannot come to Scotland without experiencing. We even canceled plans after arriving just to have more time to enjoy all it had to offer. There’s nothing and no one here not absolutely deserving of its Michelin status. We cannot wait to come back again.

From the moment I arrived, I felt completely pampered and cared for. This property embodies the essence of a luxurious country estate — elegant, serene, and impeccably maintained. Every detail, from the lush surroundings to the refined interiors, exudes sophistication and comfort. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was the outstanding service from every member of the team. Ramoe kindly greeted us and took care of our bags the moment we arrived, setting the tone for the rest of our stay. Emma graciously showed us to our room, ensuring every detail was perfect and that we had everything we needed. And on our departure day, Joaquin went above and beyond — preparing fresh coffee at 4 a.m. and even giving us a brief tour of the quiet estate while we waited for our cab to the airport. Each interaction felt genuine and thoughtful, making us feel not just welcomed but truly cared for. This wasn’t just a stay — it was an experience that captured the essence of luxury and hospitality. We left feeling completely pampered and already dreaming of our return.

I am genuinely lost for words to describe how wonderful our stay at Prestonfield House was. The staff were outstanding – attentive, knowledgeable, and responsive to every need. The food, as expected, was truly exceptional: ambitious in its creativity, sourced from the finest ingredients, and presented with perfection. The house and gardens were maintained to the highest standard, showcasing the owner’s bold and imaginative interior design talent, which made the entire experience even more memorable. We cannot recommend Prestonfield House more highly and very much look forward to making it a regular destination for us. A very special thanks to James for making our stay extraordinary.

A lovely and beautiful venue! We had a lovely experience last weekend for our wedding dinner. We felt incredibly looked after and received impeccable service from Katherine to help plan the dinner and Adelina who looked after us on the day. The Stuart Room and the Leather Room were beautifully decorated and the food was lovely! Thank you for making our day so special.

I would like to share my recent visit to Prestfield House. I had been there before with colleagues, and the atmosphere, curated by Christa, was truly amazing. However, my most recent visit completely changed my opinion. I had planned a quiet morning with my husband, hoping to enjoy tea and a peaceful escape while our son was at school. We were warmly welcomed by the lady at the front door, who kindly let us choose our seating. Initially, we were just going to have tea, but my husband suggested breakfast, and I agreed. I ordered an omelette, and my husband chose scrambled eggs with salmon. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. The lady attending us did not check back to see if we needed anything else or if we were satisfied with our food. At one point, we even felt like we were disturbing the staff. Now, the quality of the food: for a 5-star hotel, it was frankly unacceptable. My omelette was dry, poorly prepared, and missing cheese. My husband’s scrambled eggs were equally disappointing. The presentation was unappealing, and the overall quality did not meet the standard one would expect at a luxury hotel. For £35 per person, the breakfast we received—just an omelette and a shared tea, without juice, scones, or any other items—was not worth the price. When the bill arrived, it was £70 plus a service fee. I requested the service fee to be removed, as the service did not justify it, and the staff never offered to discuss it beforehand. In summary, the combination of poor food quality, lackluster service, and overpriced breakfast made this visit very disappointing. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day—it sets the tone, provides energy, and should be enjoyable. Prestfield House, unfortunately, fails to deliver this experience. If I could give advice, it would be: avoid breakfast here. Perhaps staying overnight could offer a better experience, but for a morning meal, there are far better options in town with excellent quality and service.

CoDE Pod – THE CoURT is a unique and trendy lodging located in a former 1690s courthouse in Edinburgh. The hostel offers modest quarters, including comfortable beds at an affordable price. Its central location on the Royal Mile provides easy access to Edinburgh Castle and other attractions. The common areas allow guests to socialize and share travel stories. The hostel's historic setting, being a former courthouse and jail, adds to its distinct charm.
First of all, the location is fantastic. It's right across from St. Giles Cathedral and is always crowded. As a woman, walking alone at night or early in the morning wasn't a problem. The rooms and restrooms are very clean. The bunk beds have curtains, like capsules, which is great for privacy. All the staff are very sweet and friendly. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very comfortable and safe. However, it's an expensive hostel. Not so budget-friendly. The cafe/restaurant part isn't exactly a common area, so you can't comfortably eat or drink what you buy from outside.
Beril C — Google review
Good, centrally located hostel! The highlight was the staff, everyone I spoke to was very nice, welcoming, and eager to help. Some the nicest staff I've had in an hostel! I booked in a shared pod with 6 others, which was adequate. The mattress was comfortable and the curtain provides enough privacy. There are lockers in each room with an electronic lock that can fit a carry-on suitcase and a jacket. The bathrooms were clean, I had no problems. Only issue was with noise from outside, which is to be expected because of the central (but amazing) location and the old building. My room was on the first floor, facing the courtyard and even with the window closed the noise bleed through at night was significant. There is a restaurant and bar on the first floor, which you have to walk through to access the rooms. I got a bit lost trying to check in since the restaurant was packed and I didn't see the sign to check in, which is next to the bar. But you receive 15% off of certain food and drink if you're a guest. But overall, I would recommend for anyone looking for a wonderfully located and historical hostel. The prison theming throughout was neat.
Elliot J — Google review
The location is hard to beat. Pretty much as central as you can get and everything is walking distance away. The sleeping pods are good and the locker you get is big enough to fit a decent sized suitcase. The service is great and whenever there was any issues the personal was quick with fixing it. Shout out to Rachel who was very helpful and service minded. For the price it's hard to beat.
Mikael L — Google review
I don't usually go for hostels but the photos provided made it seem like I was booking more of a capsule hotel where the screen is at the end of the bed. I find those pods have a lot more privacy and are quieter than your entire side being exposed but was disappoint to find it was the curtain on the side style. One of the people sleeping in the same room as me had let me in so I didn't find out my code didn't work due to some sort of glitch until I woke up ~5am to go to the washroom. The staff were helpful setting me up with a new code. I had a very restless night, there was a woman in the room that sounded very sick and I didn't want to be sick so I checked out after the first night before 11am. The staff member I interacted with didn't seem very helpful. I didn't think I would be able to get a refund but I feel bad for the guests exposed to the woman's germs. It can't be easy having a cold or the flu in a hostel either. The towel rental situation seemed unclear, I ended up not taking a shower and was kind of stinky. Hair dryers you also have to borrow from reception which is up a few flights of stairs from where the bathrooms are. As a heads up they don't use the British plug in the pods, you are stuck with USB-C and USB-A, in some ways this is more convenient but certain laptops require higher wattage. The beds are fine, seemed like a cheap IKEA mattress or equivalent but I would have loved a second pillow. The hostel offers a walking tour, whisky tasting and other activities that sounded fun but I would have rather the basics been focused on before trying to add on extras.
Liam W — Google review
Incredible location right in the centre of town. The staff were lovely and talked me through everything. The beds are comfortable and clean. The rooms are clean and the lockers are great especially as they already have locks. The bar is also great. There were multiple access control doors to go through making it feel really safe.
Millie H — Google review
Enjoyed my stay! The bed was comfy and it was quiet during sleeping hours. I was in a female only shared dormitory and I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. I recommend bringing lounge shoes to walk to bathrooms and your own towel if you don't want to pay £3 for one. All in all, lovely hostel and would stay here again!
Halley H — Google review
Given the choice I’d stay here over a hotel. Everything was PERFECT. I’ve never been in a hostel where the bathrooms were maintained so well. Each floor has a male and female communal bathroom, with toilet stalls, shower stalls with a dry area to get undressed/dressed, and sinks with counter space to get ready at. Additionally reception has revlon hairdryers available for free use. Towels are rented for £3, but after staying in hostels where I didn’t feel comfortable enough to shower I didn’t mind paying this at all.
Emma J — Google review
The bedding was very good, but the toilet was never clean, and unfortunately, there was a complete lack of cleaning in all the apartment's toilets. Whenever I entered, I would see traces of urine on the toilet seat. There should be regular cleaning of the toilets, especially since they are used so frequently, and no attention is paid to cleaning them. Personally, I will not stay in this type of accommodation again because of the poor toilet hygiene.🤮🤮🤮

What a phenomenal day! Martina is hands down one of the best people we've met during our wedding preparation. She was always an email away and replied instantly and thoroughly to all our questions and met all our wants so fantastically well. On the day, from morning preparations to the final send-off, our wedding was nothing short of magical at The Glasshouse. Every detail ran like clockwork—no hiccups, no stress, despite multiple variables including different guest requests - just pure celebration. The team anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, the spaces looked breathtaking at every turn, and the flow of the day felt effortless for us and our guests. We’ve lost count of how many friends and family have told us it was the most fun wedding they’ve ever attended. Thank you for giving us a flawless, joy-filled start to our forever! Special thanks to Martina and Megan, it has been an honour meeting such special human beings who spark joy and are so passionate about looking after their clients - we're extremely grateful for everything! My husband and I stayed at the Glasshouse for four nights a couple of weeks ago, during the final days of our honeymoon. During our first night, I stepped into a soaked patch of carpet in the bathroom. Not knowing what I had stepped in, I informed a front desk receptionist, who said someone would come by to fix it. The issue persisted, so the next day I asked the same receptionist if someone could clean the area. Later that day, someone came by and vacuumed the floor — but this did not resolve the issue, as the carpet remained wet. So, I went to the front desk to ask for help for a third time. That time, the person I spoke with said he was a manager and explained that the operations manager would contact me because the issue could not be fixed during our stay. He mentioned there was a loose pipe or something similar under the floor, and that the carpet would need to be removed. We checked out the following day, and I confirmed with the manager on duty that the operations manager would reach out to me. She assured me that they would. Last Wednesday, I called the Glasshouse again to ask when I could expect a response, and I was told the operations manager would be in touch soon. As of today, I have not received any communication. It has now been almost two weeks since we checked out. I am shocked that we were placed in a clearly defective room (as shown in the attached photos from the second and final nights of our stay), that no one offered a remedy during our visit, and that the operations manager has still not followed up with me. We are truly disappointed and wish we had chosen a hotel that valued its guests’ experience — especially during such an important occasion.

David, The Head Concierge, made our time in Scotland memorable! He toured us through the hotel, shared Edinburgh’s history, helped us purchase tickets and gave great advice on local pubs and restaurants to visit. Our waitress and front desk receptionist (in training), Nicole, was also very personable and helpful. The head bartender was very knowledgeable on a wide range of Whiskeys to try. I think his name was Collin. The hotel is just off the main street for the Royal Mile so it was easy to walk everywhere. Breakfast was very nice and included. We received a complimentary room upgrade with a balcony overlooking the city.

This hotel was a great location and nice - but the real value came from the concierge, David. His recommendations were phenomenal and guided our entire trip. THANK YOU, David! The only thing that I took a star off for was the noise from the movie theater next door. Our room would sometimes shake if an action movie was playing...! But overall, would definitely recommend to family or friends.

We had a great visit to this lovely hotel. After having a very tasty Charcuterie and a bottle of French wine, we had a good look around the hotel. It looks quite small from outside but its like a Tardis inside. We even found a roof top garden with great views of the city.
Steve A — Google review
Beautiful premises with a lovely crew. It's set just far enough back from the tourist center that you can visit if you like without needing transportation, but are also free of the crowds and noise. David and Isaac were instrumental in finding hidden gems to visit in the city, and were such fun to talk to. We will remember them both fondly. A note about booking: request a room away from the roof garden. There was a wild party being held in the event pavilion while we were there with a DJ and bumping music and it appeared that the hotel had signed a contract with said party to allow them to go until nearly midnight. We were mere meters from said party and so could hear every beat and word, and so also got to stay up until midnight as well! We would stay again, but would be very firm about not being placed in one of those rooms. Definitely check in on their events while you're in town. We attended a scotch tasting/pairing and enjoyed ourselves.

Room was fine and the bed was comfortable. The layout of the hotel is odd and the layout of our room was also strange. The garden area is pleasant enough if you like that sort of thing. Staff were pleasant enough, but I would not consider this a 5-star hotel.

Very disappointed for an Autograph. How does this qualify as 5*? The small details matter in luxury hotels and this hotel simply couldn’t deliver on even the basics. Frankly this hotel was depressing waste of money. The rooms are dated and the hotel has an awful smell. The patio was covered in bird poo. The only notable benefit is the location, although you can get better quality for less at the Motel One and Courtyard right next door. The service was also bad. Charged twice for breakfast. I booked through AmEx, so breakfast should be included. A complimentary mini bar was also listed. It wasn’t. I also tried arranging for a gift to be left in the room, which they delivered while my parents were in the room. Takes away the surprise element. More annoyingly, I also requested twice for them not to disclose any costs and they ignored those instructions on checkout. My parents also complained about poor service during breakfast - also citing inattentive staff. There are also no spa facilities or gym, and the bar area has no natural light. It’s no better than student accommodation, don’t bother staying here.

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is a sophisticated and newly opened hotel located in the unbeatable Old Town of Edinburgh. The hotel offers classy, zen-like bedrooms with smart and sassy bars and restaurants, as well as a 'Funny Library' for entertainment. The conversion of the grade 1 listed building to a hotel has been done brilliantly, retaining stunning features with a twist. Guests can enjoy high-quality fittings and amenities, along with welcoming staff providing excellent service.
We celebrated a family gathering at the Commons Club. We had afternoon tea with friends and it couldn't have been more perfect. We were at the Chef's Table and the space was ideal. Cosy and intimate, but spacious enough. The afternoon tea was absolute perfection. Staff were amazing. We liked it so much we moved to the bar after our time was up. Truly wonderful venue."

The location of this hotel cannot be beat. I booked the chamber room with King bed and castle view and it was plenty spacious for a European hotel. I was near the terrace and it was still quiet. The staff were always friendly and welcoming. Loved the mini bar which was pretty reasonable for pricing. Beds and pillows were comfy and housekeeping was done well. I’d love to stay again!

Simply perfect in every way! The Virgin Hotel Edinburgh is absolutely stunning — a true little gem in the heart of the city. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special. The Hungarian lady at the reception was exceptionally kind and helpful — we’re truly grateful for her assistance! 💖 The hotel itself is beautiful, elegant, and full of character. Our room was stylish and comfortable, with an incredibly cozy bed and luxuriously soft linens. Housekeeping was excellent — our sheets were changed daily, and every day we received little treats like chocolate, coffee, water, and tea. The toiletries are from the local brand Arran — they smell divine and feel amazing. The bar has a lovely atmosphere, the service is friendly, and the bartender is truly talented — his cocktails were excellent, and the cocktail menu is unbeatable! The whole hotel is spotless, refined, and filled with an incredibly pleasant scent that makes the atmosphere even more inviting. Everything was simply perfect. It was a wonderful, unforgettable experience — we couldn’t recommend it more highly! 💫

A wonderful hotel in a prime location with an unfortunate noise level at night. It was quite difficult to get a good nights sleep on Friday and Saturday night, the noise was unbearable.. with a heavy bass thumping through your closed windows. Apparently there was a nightclub right next to it. I would have hoped this was made a bit more clear before reserving my stay. As someone who appreciates a good nights rest when on holiday, this was unfortunate, and quite irritating. This did unfortunately *not* feel like a five star hotel. Cleaning service was not up to par with my expectations. Stains and spots were left after coming back from a tour of the city. The TV struggled with casting media content and the WiFi was mediocre at best. Upon checkout, I informed the staff of the noise issue, and was simply met with an apology before leaving. If you're into long nights and clubbing, this hotel is perfect for you, but I was not happy with my stay.

We stayed at the Virgin Hotel Edinburgh while celebrating our wedding, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. The room was stunning, the atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxing, and every detail was thought of. It truly made our wedding celebrations even more memorable. Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so wonderful, we can’t wait to come back! Special shout out to Jo, who helped organise our special day! Thank you for everything you did for us to help made the day so perfect. Thank you

We LOVED our stay at the Virgin Edinburgh! This hotel is the perfect combination of Scottish charm and modern luxury. There are so many details with the accommodations that make it clear that the hotel was designed with guests top of mind. The staff was extremely attentive and the rooms were very clean and comfortable with a thoughtful layout. The bar makes delicious cocktails. The location is perfect: you walk out directly onto Victoria Street, which is an adorable cobblestone street with shops and cafes. The other 5-star hotels that we considered were all in the New Town area, and after seeing their locations we were especially glad we chose Virgin. I’m sure the other hotels are nice as well, but they are in a chaotic part of town next to the train/bus stations. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Edinburgh!

Fun hotel with a lot of personality centrally located in Victoria Street walking distance to the castle and the Royal Mile. Well appointed and comfortable rooms. There is an outdoor terrace on the seventh floor. Spacious will equip gym. Two restaurants and bars in the hotel, which are fun to visit and serve excellent food. Highly recommend it, and I will gladly stay again.

The Roseate Edinburgh is an elegant boutique hotel located in the affluent Murrayfield area of Edinburgh. Housed in two Victorian townhouses, it offers a sophisticated yet family-friendly atmosphere. The rooms and suites are adorned with luxurious furnishings, including peacock-patterned wallpaper, Persian rugs, and velvet sofas. The hotel's Orkney heritage is celebrated through its decor and extensive selection of Scottish single malts in the bar's whisky cabinet.
This was a fantastic hotel in a very great central location to the west end and the main highways. The service was exceptional from all staff, particularly Alexander, who made our visit special. The food, two breakfasts and a dinner, were amazing and the bar was quaint. The room amenities were above board, including drinks, snacks, cleanliness and service. We will definitely stay here again when we return. Five star all the way.

A ways from the Royal Mile, but this hotel cannot be beat for service and amenities. The front staff was friendly and accommodating. No request was too small or too large. My wife and I felt welcome and appreciated from the get go. Our hosts had a wealth of information on local opportunities and options. The room was spacious and incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend this top notch hotel. It was the best of our 12 day stay in Scotland.
J. C — Google review
Just enjoyed a 2 night, excellent stay, at the Roseate. We were greeted on arrival by Alexander, which just kicked off the 5 star treatment we received throughout our stay from all staff. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them and they couldn't do enough for us, some going above and beyond. The room, in the main building, was comfortable and clean with all you could need, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities, minibar, safe. There was plenty of hanging space for clothes, plenty of plug sockets and even charging points for phones. We had breakfast both days at the hotel, experiencing both the cooked and continental breakfasts.... both were delicious. The hotel itself is perfectly situated, with a bus stop right outside, where you can catch a number 26/31 straight into the city which takes no longer than 10 minutes. In the other direction, you can find Murrayfield Rugby stadium, home of Scotland and Edinburgh team, just a 10 minute walk. Definitely recommend staying here and we will most certainly be back. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

Had a fantastic stay here. Very hospitable staff and an outstanding welcome from Alexander. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Beautiful bar space with a good selection of drinks. Cocktails were well made. My new go to hotel when I stay in Edinburgh.

One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen. I work in France as a manager in a 5-star hotel and I'm very, very demanding. The Roseate was a hotel I'd wanted to try for a long time, and the result was INCREDIBLE! The service was impeccable, the cleanliness impeccable. I recommend this intimate hotel where perfection rhymes with conviviality.

I can’t say enough good things about The Roseate and our stay there. We had just eloped in Glencoe and headed back to Edinburgh for our last few days in Scotland and chose the Roseate as our last accommodation. Upon arrival, we were greeted and treated like old friends. When we told them we were just married, they gave us some complimentary and celebratory glasses of prosecco from the bar as we waited for our room. They also put some nice little nibbles for us in our room which were delicious! We stayed here three nights and took full advantage of the restaurant inside — full Scottish breakfasts, a tea, and a dinner. Every staff member was personable and by the end of our stay, we felt like it was a home away from home. The amenities are perfect with heated bathroom floors, a great soaking bath, and fantastic interiors. There is also a bus stop right outside to connect you to the rest of Edinburgh so it’s a very great location. We cannot wait to stay here again on future anniversary trips!
Julia W — Google review
We booked the Roseate Edinburgh as the base for our wedding weekend, and it was absolutely perfect. From the very start, the team took on board every detail we requested, and by the time the big weekend arrived, everything felt seamless. We hosted three events at the hotel—a cocktail party, family dinner, and BBQ—and the service was outstanding throughout. Every one of our 60+ guests commented on how friendly and attentive the staff were, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Special thanks to Alexander, Edward, Zoltan, and Olivia, who went above and beyond for us. Chef Borah created a fantastic meal for our family dinner on Friday, and General Manager Parvez kept everything running smoothly while making sure my new husband(!) and I were always looked after. The icing on the cake was returning to our room after the wedding to find flowers, gifts, and a signed card from the Roseate team—such a thoughtful and personal touch. The experience, service, and atmosphere made it worth every penny. We’d love to come back, perhaps for our anniversary!
Rhiannon P — Google review
I was so excited to stay at the Roaseate as the way it was described and the photos put up, showed a 5 star luxury hotel. But when we got there it was completely different. We were taken to the building across the hotel and given a room in the basement. We had no closet so lived out of our suitcases for our stay. We asked for an iron as we did not have one in our room , but didn’t get one so after waiting for over an hour for it rang up the front desk to tell them to leave the iron as we had a reservation and had to go, no apologie whatsoever. Will definitely not be staying there again.

So happy we have chosen this hotel. Location is perfect, new town, many shops and restaurants, lively crowd. Beautifully decorated, colorful flowers everywhere. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Coffee , teas and cookies complementary and a fully stocked bar. Huge bathroom with walk-in shower. We had extensive hot breakfast included in our rate, much more on the savory side but still plenty of choices even for sweet tooth. Breakfast staff very attentive. Noteworthy the remarkable help of David the Manager as a/c stopped working in our room. He did his best to make us feel comfortable by bringing a portable a/c unit to the room. We appreciate it very much. All in all we highly recommend Tigerlily. Lovely.

Surprise 40th birthday for my son. My first time in this venue. Table was booked for 5:30. I arrived early with my partner. Went to the bar just inside the door for a drink whilst waiting for the Table and the rest of the family. Mocktail was perfect. First impressions..perfect location, perfect atmosphere and perfect decor. We were shown to our table. The interior is massive and beautiful designed. Intimate, buzzing and warm. Private rooms very busy as well. Service was outstanding, food well presented and delicious. Great place for a 40th birthday.

Stayed here for 1 night and had afternoon tea. Absolutely beautiful building especially having been decorated for Christmas. Was greeted at the front bar very a very pleasant lady (sorry can't remember her name but is an Australian ). Afternoon tea was good (I'm a bloke and felt out of my comfort zone, but really enjoyed the experience). Then checked into the room by another extremely pleasant lady who gave us complimentary cocktail vouchers. The room itself was huge, with Absolutely everything you needed for a pleasant stay, the bathroom was massive too, with good pressure and hot shower. We will definitely be returning next year. Many thanks for making our stay great

The hotel was situated in the perfect place to explore the city. We chose the Mini suite and the room was perfect, large and clean with everything we needed. The bathroom was gigantic. The restaurant was beautiful and the breakfast was a little different than we are used to but they let us choose exactly what we wanted every morning! Overall very comfortable stay.

If I could give this place ZERO stars, I absolutely would. It was a total shambles from start to finish. We booked for what was supposed to be a great night—a birthday celebration for 14 people—but everything turned into a disappointment. If they were too busy, they should never have accepted the booking rather than ruining a special occasion. First, the drinks were wrong. We had to go back to the bar to fix orders that they got incorrect. Then dinner took almost 2 hours to be served, and they still managed to miss one order entirely. One person had to eat long after everyone else had already finished. As for dessert, we had pre-ordered a cake and other desserts so the celebrants could blow out their candles. We kept being told “another 10 minutes,” but after an hour of waiting, we eventually had to cancel it. No cake, no desserts , nothing. We left with no talk from the manager or probably not aware of.

If I could give ZERO stars, I absolutely would. They completely ruined the birthday celebration we booked for our whole family 14 in total .We made the reservation well in advance, and while I understand they may get busy, they should not accept bookings they clearly can’t handle. First, our drinks were wrong — we had to ask them to remake them. Then the meals came out very late, and one order was completely missed, leaving one person in our group eating after everyone else had already finished. As for dessert, we ended up cancelling it after waiting for another whole hour. We were repeatedly told “10 more minutes,” which turned into 60 minutes of waiting. What should have been a special family night turned into a huge disappointment. The service was the worst we’ve ever experienced, and the entire visit was absolutely not worth the money.

Grassmarket, a historic area in Edinburgh's Old Town, was once a bustling livestock market in the 15th century. Today, it is a vibrant hub filled with charming pubs, boutiques, and restaurants. The area offers stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and is home to the oldest pub in the city, the White Hart Inn. However, its history also includes darker events such as public executions from 1660 to 1784.

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, the ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge - Royal Mile is a modern haven that combines comfort with convenience. Guests can enjoy warm, minimalist rooms equipped with essential amenities like tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel features a casual restaurant and bar/lounge, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Its prime location means you're just a short stroll from iconic attractions such as Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket, and St Giles' Cathedral.
This hotel was just off the a Royal Mile and close to excellent cafes. Just up the hill from New Town and the train and bus stations. The bed was so comfortable and the room had everything you'd need. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast having everything hot and cold available(we didn't use it at other times so can't comment). Would definitely recommend. There is a shop just across the street for storing luggage cheaply in case you go on a tour and can't take all your things.

Our experience at this hotel last week was extremely disappointing. We had mentioned our allergy condition in the Booking reservation note, but were still given a room on the 8th floor that smelled awful. It was not just the room, the entire hallway on that floor had a terrible odor. Our room was later changed, and while the new one was slightly better, none of the rooms actually match the photos online. The furniture and products are old and unclean. The beds are uncomfortable. This is definitely not a good value-for-money hotel. The night receptionist seemed very unhappy. When we said good night, he did not even respond. On the other hand, Lu, who welcomed us when we first arrived, was very kind and helpful. We truly appreciated her support. The only good thing about the hotel is its location. Since it is in Old Town, we were able to walk to most places easily.

Excellent location, central. Staff is cool. The rooms is good size, well equipped with coffee/tea and adaptors. The bed is comfortable and the pillow is amazing (I'd like to know where I can purchase one like this). The bathroom is super new, clean and quality shampoo and body soap. Thr breakfast is worth the price of 13 pounds, with special mention to the bacon, delicious.

Great location close to Waverley Station and The Festival Theatre. Hotel staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. Room was pretty basic but clean and comfortable with a good mattress. All the facilities in the bathroom 'pod' worked well and the shower was very good. We enjoyed a reasonably priced cocktail in the bar and I was really impressed by the breakfast buffet. My only complaint was the outside noise from a nearby bar or club with a loud sound system which we could hear in our third floor room until 03:00 AM, next time I'll request a room on a higher floor. Apart from that no complaints.

Was a good place to stay for our trip into Edinburgh. Staff was always super friendly no matter who was on shift. Bathroom in the rooms were a little interesting as they seem to be what you would find to be inserted into an RV. Location is super close to the Royal Mile and all things tourists. Sidewalks getting to our hotel were a bit crowded for that reason and there are multiple bus stops. This could be a great place for you to stay if that’s what you’re looking for, we didn’t like that aspect so much.
Mikaela B — Google review
The room had a window, but it was locked, no mechanical ventilation, not even in the bathroom. Very spartan accomodation, no closet, no drawers, just a place to hang your coat, so there's no possibility to unpack. Since Brexit any foreign visitor must have a passport, therefore i find imperative a safe (not present) in the room. The breakfast was good, plenty of choice for this category. Personnel was not very experienced but kind. I think this place is probably aimed at single travellers on a short business trip.
Max W — Google review
The hotel is perfectly central for any time of the year but especially for the Edinburgh Fringe. The rooms are clean, slightly dated, but good for a couple of nights. I was quite high up and also at the end of a corridor so it was all very quiet. The mattress though REALLY needs upgrades as it was lumpy and uncomfortable. The staff is helpful and polite, they have storage space for luggage, and a bar and restaurant (I didn't use it this time).
Somaya K — Google review
The bathroom was stinky. No toiletries were provided. The amount you are charging compared to what is being provided is not fair. The hygiene was fair. Not satisfied with the bathroom cleanliness. The pictures on the website do not correlate to the rooms. I booked a premium room and it seemed like I was provided with a standard room after they added a coffee tray and somehow converted it to a premium room. And the front desk staff started challenging me on this, being extremely rude

The Witchery by the Castle is a renowned and opulent landmark restaurant and hotel in Edinburgh, offering lavish suites, an oak-panelled dining room, and a seasonal terrace. Its unique setting next to the Castle at the top of the Royal Mile features a high-gothic interior that enchants diners.
We celebrated my other half's birthday here and it was magical. We were seated in the Secret Garden room, softly lit by candles, creating a beautifully intimate atmosphere that made the evening feel very special. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and made us feel cared for throughout the night. We were also chuffed that the staff remembered it was my partner’s birthday and surprised him with a little treat at dessert. The food and wine were excellent. Overall, it was an unforgettable evening. I would return in a heartbeat.
Bethan T — Google review
The restaurant presents a menu with strong visual impact, featuring carefully crafted descriptions and offerings that draw on both Scottish tradition and international influences. However, behind the impressive presentation, the culinary substance leaves much to be desired. The overall experience is certainly worth a visit for the setting: the Gothic-style dining room is simply magnificent, and the historic atmosphere surrounding the venue makes the context truly unique. The staff stand out for their kindness and attentiveness, always ready to assist guests with care. From a gastronomic perspective, however, the experience did not live up to expectations or to the prices charged. The meats, compared to those found in more understated establishments that literally melt in the mouth, here proved less refined in both texture and quality. The oysters with champagne, while correctly presented, offered nothing memorable and remained rather average. The handling of the wine list also conveyed more apprehension than expertise: wine should not be chosen in haste, but in relation to the menu and with the necessary time. In summary, a restaurant with a spectacular setting and attentive service, but from a strictly culinary standpoint the experience is disappointing. The price-to-quality ratio is not justified, particularly when considering a service charge of around £30. A place that enchants for its atmosphere, more than for its gastronomic value. One star for the experience, one star for the Spanish guy 🖤
Chiara M — Google review
I've never visited the hotel but I've dfined at the restaraunt twice, first in 2024 and then again in 2025. The building, location and interior is genuinely breathtaking. It truly feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is tranquil and the guests have always seemed to respect the ambience as well. The dark lights goes well with the gothic feel of the room, but I'd also like to add that as a nepsy girlie it truly helps in creating a peaceful experience. My experience of the service is also first class. They have always made me feel welcome (even when dining alone, which is not always a given) and made the experience feel grand. I am not a foodie so my thoughts on the food should be considered as such. The menu is very seasonal so I can only speak of the menus in the fall of 2024 and 2025. In 2024 I had a heavenly risotto that I still think about from time to time. In 2025 I had a vegetarian dish of some sort and it didn't meet my expectations of what the restaurant is (that's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. The dessert was heavenly on both times and the house lemonade (or was it ice tea?) is really good.
Joanna T — Google review
Honestly you can 100% miss this restaurant in Edinburgh. Over priced for mediocre food. Do you want to pay £5 for tap water and £5 for bread for the table, sure that's fine, a £12 bottle of wine is £40 sure that's fine, it's a nice location and recommended restaurant that so many people love. The mash, bland and cold, no flavour at all, you would think maybe abit buttery with garlic? Anything? No. Meat and gravy decent at best. At best this is a subpar restaurant disguised as fine dining. You can spend less on Michelin star restaurant everywhere else in the world. I could care less about cost if the food was good, good food makes you forget about the bill and keeps you coming back.... but if the food is subpar you start to wonder what your spending money on. The staff was amazing which is why I made this two stars. Seriously the food is okay at best, after you eat here you will come back read this review and ask yourself why you spent your money here

Great location! Central to everything and walkable from most spots. Beautiful atmosphere, cosy, intimate and a very gothic ambience. The food was tasty, the haggis and potato roti starter was a stand out, however the steak tartare was quite average, it was nice enough but wouldn’t order again. The staff were attentive, friendly and very professional. Been desperate to visit for a few years and it did not disappoint. The autumnal vibes were evident with pumpkins, winter flower arrangements and long wick candles. A really nice spot to enjoy some magical vibes!

I brought my parents here for dinner to celebrate their 58th anniversary. The original booking was for four people but one dropped out last minute. The staff accomadated this with no fuss and rearranged our table accordingly. The venue is gorgeous with a magical ambience. We asked to have the set menu for two to be altered for three and again this was no problem. The food tasted great and the recommended wine pairing was excellent. A formal yet unpretentious and friendly service. Highly recommended.

Our special occasion dinner at The Witchery was absolutely outstanding! We started with the beef carpaccio topped with caviar and the seared scallops — both beautifully presented and full of flavor. For mains, the lobster thermidor and lamb Wellington were larger than life — rich, comforting, and full of classic Scottish flair. We ended with the apple tarte tatin, which was delicious but quite a large portion — we would have appreciated a heads-up from our server since our starters and mains were already so hearty. The service overall was good, though not quite as exceptional as the food. The atmosphere is second to none: candlelit, romantic, and steeped in Edinburgh’s history. Despite the small note on service, the experience was incredible. I’d highly recommend The Witchery to anyone visiting Edinburgh — and I’ll definitely be back on my next trip!
Alex G — Google review
We chose The Witchery mainly for its beautiful, theatrical, and historically fitting atmosphere — and in that regard, it truly delivered. We were warmly welcomed, the setting is unique and elegant, and the overall ambience as well as the service were consistently pleasant and attentive. However, from a culinary perspective, the experience did not meet our expectations, especially considering the premium pricing. The burrata was surprisingly bland and lacked depth of flavor, feeling like something that could have easily been prepared at home. The greatest disappointment, though, was the lobster dish we were genuinely excited about. We both ordered the “Grilled Scottish Lobster Thermidor”, but the dish served did not appear to be grilled at all. Visually, there were no signs of grilling, and it instead resembled a steamed preparation. The texture was overly soft and almost mushy, to the point where it became difficult to distinguish between the sauce and the lobster itself — quite unexpected, given that Scottish lobster is known for its firm and meaty consistency. While the ambience and service created a positive overall atmosphere, those seeking a refined culinary experience may find it falls short of expectations. In our view, the price–quality ratio was unfortunately not aligned with what was served.

Black Ivy is a Victorian hotel with a modern twist, offering 21 contemporary rooms that blend minimalism with vibrant pops of color and texture. Located just five minutes from the city center, guests can enjoy luxurious amenities such as Egyptian Cotton sheets and White Company toiletries. The hotel's restaurant serves classic dishes with a unique spin, while the sun-dappled conservatory and elegant dining room provide picturesque settings for dining.
We had a lovely lunch at the Black Ivy on Monday. It was a lovely sunny day so the outside area was really busy, for a city bar / restaurant it is set off the road with a grassy park out front so it is a nice relaxing area to be in. We are inside and the bar was very comfortable. The service was excellent, efficient without being rushed. The food was also very tasty, they run midweek offers and this worked out very reasonable. The burger was very nice with lovely dry and crispy chips. The chicken Milanese was also one of the tastiest we have had for a long time. The location is outside the main city center in a nice part of the city. The walk from the city is a nice one through the old town and then the meadows / Brunsfield links park. Great for a stroll if it's a nice day but also many bus routes available if the weather is more traditionally Edinburgh. We will definitely be back.

A truly refined hotel offering exceptional service. My sincere gratitude to Tara, Corin, Aimee, and both Emmas for creating such a memorable evening. Their impeccable attention to detail, creativity, and thoughtful spontaneity elevated the entire experience. I have no doubt these qualities will draw my wife and me back to this remarkable establishment.

Room was lovely and clean. A few wee things could be improved on to make it perfect. The shower holder didn't stay up at a height, tv had a terrible signal and the lamp didn't work. Very minor things really. About 20 mins walk to all attractions so placed perfectly, great pricing and the bar/restaurant below was lovely.

Travelling alone: Room was spacious and very clean, well appointed. Bathroom was perfect. Staff impeccable and very helpful. Point to note: TV had a couple of hundred channels listed but, barely 20 were accessible. Think it may require re-tuning!

My stay at The Black Ivy Hotel in Edinburgh was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth and genuine kindness. The staff made me feel completely at home. My room was beautiful and cozy, making it the perfect space to unwind after exploring the city, and it overlooked the most stunning park view. Waking up to that sight every morning felt magical. The food was outstanding, every meal felt crafted with care and flavor, and the ambience in the restaurant and bar was just as inviting. Every single person I encountered went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. I can honestly say there wasn’t a single thing I would change. My time at Black Ivy was an experience I’ll always remember fondly, and I’ll absolutely be returning the next time I’m in Edinburgh. Highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.

Super experience from start to finish. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great location for city centre. Food is great too. Many thanks to the whole team. Highly recommend and we will be returning.

My 2 night stay at Black Ivy was incredible. Everything from the hotel, the rooms, the bar, food and service was brilliant. I booked at the last minute so was a bit pricey but definitely worth it. I loved the room, so spacious and luxurious. Nice view to the park too. The bar is excellent and a great spot for breakfast.
Himesh B — Google review
The hotel has a lovely location overlooking the park, offering a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and the staff were very helpful, quickly fixing a cleaning issue we had. However, the room and facilities did not feel like a 4-star standard: the bed was smaller than expected, there were no plug converters, and the bathroom was basic with only shampoo, shower gel, soap, and hand lotion. The shower had stains, and there was no toilet brush, which we found unusual. The interiors are stylish with carpets throughout, but for someone with allergies like me, it was challenging. The mattress protector was also stained, which was disappointing. The restaurant looked beautiful, though we didn’t have time to try it. Overall, while the location and calm atmosphere were great, the hotel did not fully meet 4-star expectations.

Motel One Edinburgh Princes is a budget-friendly hotel located in the heart of the city. The rooms are warmly decorated and offer basic but comfortable accommodation with a boutique vibe. Guests can enjoy the 24/7 lobby bar and spacious modern bathrooms. The hotel's location at the beginning of Princes Street, next to Waverley station and the National Gallery, makes it an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh.
I was remotely booked this hotel through Scottish Tours. I was very pleased. The hotel is across from the train station, the rooms clean and spacious with tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and toiletries. I was upgraded the minute I checked in early to Reception. Reception staff were friendly and could not be more welcoming. It was definitely a hub I could relax in after a day's excursions. Breakfast was continental and mainly cold but did have boiled eggs and some lovely bread and there was a vast array to choose from. A lovely dining area too.... extremely happy and would recommend.

Hmmm, excellent location, standard rooms, when i went there was building works, luckily they'd finishes on the 2nd night and the bar area was reopened. Very quiet, I think due to its new opening, as in the bar, depressing room, no view, fake window, as in I opened up the curtains and one depressing window lookout onto a courtyard of cement, the other curtain opened to revela a wall. Small but clean and comfortable, just im a person who needs light, it was dark and depressing. But other rooms may not be. Great location though.

Although this was only a short overnight stay after return from a tour and out to fly home the next morning, the room was adequate, the bed comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. Simple but sufficient continental breakfast was helpful for my quick start morning. Can’t beat this amazing location. I would choose again just for location. This Edinburgh area is pricey to stay so this is a good more budget option! Would definitely stay again!

Excellent location right across the street from Waverly train station and stops for the Airlink bus to the airport. Very walkable to all main attractions. The room itself and bathroom were very clean. It is a fairly small suite and I could not imagine more than one person staying there but it was great for a solo stay. I also paid extra for a room with a view which was okay.

This would be my 3rd Motel-One location I've stayed at and it has (sorry, Manchester) surpassed Manchester Piccadilly as my favorite! Not only is it newly decorated, using simple, elegant Scottish touches throughout, the lounge is large, vibrant and welcoming. Now for the best part. Tonight's my last evening and I decide to have a drink or two at the lounge and met Murphy and Haley, two of the nicest women I've met along my travels throughout the UK and Scotland. They both were extremely polite, very helpful with drink selections/popular places to visit in the Grass Market/best place for Hagis & Scotch Eggs. Murphy went above & beyond with create a new Gin cocktail that I found online and Haley surpassed the service by being the unofficial tour guide. As for the rooms, these rooms are small, yes, but that's the minimalist style that this German-based hotel is. For most reviewers saying they're small, I wish they would do a Google search and view images or learn about the properties before leaving the review. The bed? The pillows? I sleep like a baby. Love this Hotel and is definitely my place to stay when I come back in March!

We loved the location with easy walks to everything we wanted to see as well as many restaurants. While the room was quiet with the windows closed, we found we needed to keep the windows open almost the entire time as the room became quite stuffy and warm, even while visiting in October - at least for us. The room was very clean. The bed was quite firm. We had some challenges with getting the key card to work to open the door. But all in all, it was an enjoyable stay given we weren’t in our room often anyways. The staff was very friendly and graciously checked us into our room early after our red eye flight.
Allyse H — Google review
Stayed for one night on a business trip, chose for location being literally a stones throw away from the train station. Staff are friendly, check-in was pleasant, room quite small and basic but clean, comfortable bed and a lovely power shower. For me the only let down was breakfast, just a small continental breakfast but to be fair, I didn’t read what the breakfast options were when booking so perhaps that’s my fault for overlooking.
Tony T — Google review
Location is great, but this is ruined by the lack of amenities and basic things like functioning air conditioning or a window that opens fully in the room. It's late October and 8°C outside, but somehow at least 25°C in our room, but feels more like 30 when you're trying to sleep, with zero possiblity to cool off. It was an extremely rough 3 nights of sleep, which cost no less than €600! For this reason alone I can only give one star because being able to sleep is the absolute bare minimum to ask for of a hotel. On top of that, there's only instant coffee and tea in the room (but sometimes no cups to drink with lol), no fridge, no closet (only shelves like 2 meters high on the wall), no phone to make calls to reception, no conditioner or lotion... I can't for the life of my understand the high ratings or the price point.

Nestled at the end of North Bridge, The Scotsman Hotel is a stunning example of Edwardian architecture that once served as the headquarters for Scotland's national daily newspaper. This posh hotel features individually designed rooms that blend classic elegance with modern comforts, including floor-to-ceiling windows and luxurious marble bathrooms. Guests can enjoy delightful dining experiences in the Grand Cafe, housed in what was once the advertising hall, showcasing seasonal menus inspired by local Scottish producers.
I had a great stay at the Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh. The location is amazing—right in the heart of the city with easy access to everything. The room was very nice, clean, and comfortable. I also really enjoyed the Grand Café; it’s a lovely spot for meals or just relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The only downside was that the Market Street elevator was under maintenance during my visit, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, though, a great experience and I’d definitely stay again!

Centrally located near Royal Mile and many Fringe locations in August. Very nice restaurant located in front of hotel and surrounded by pubs and bars on lower level. Nice updated room and bathroom with plenty of storage. The staff were friendly and super accommodating. Hope construction on near by bridge finally gets completed. Lovely park close by that leads right to The National Scottish Gallery.

My now husband and I stayed here for one of the first nights of our honeymoon/elopement trip to Scotland. The staff were so sweet and personable and really made us feel special. The rooms were clean with a lot of character. We had dinner at their restaurant and the food was amazing with great service, then we ordered a full Scottish breakfast in bed the next morning before we headed out, which was also some of the best breakfast we had on our entire trip. We definitely plan on staying here (or at the very least, dining here) again next time we have the pleasure of staying in Edinburgh.

Really beautiful hotel. Great rooms but some better than others due to the layout of the old building. Extremely friendly staff. Fantastic location. Right at the heart of the shopping streets and literally on the doorstep of the christmas markets. 10min walk to Tram to and from airport. I was considering deducting 1 star for cold breakfasts that we returned in the grand cafe but maybe would have been unfair. Next time we will go downstairs to the buffet breakfast which bother family members said was excellent.

We stayed at the Scotsman for two nights after our wedding. The room was beautiful and very large, wonderful shower and comfortable bed. Unfortunately the windows wouldn't stay open properly which was uncomfortable given the heat wave. We resorted to propping them open with pillows and blankets. Room service meal late at night was tasty but stale bread and small portions for the price. Breakfast was delicious, but very small portions given the price. They had no record of our evening meal booking but were able to make another. We waited half an hour to be seated. The food was delicious, but service rapidly declined halfway during the meal. We waited 20 minutes for a drink order. It was not busy during this time. They did not charge us for food only drinks due to these delays. We did not think to ask for help to take our many pieces of luggage downstairs on check out. Various hotel staff passed us and did not offer to help despite us clearly struggling. Call ahead if you want help! The lift is very small and you will be waiting a long time to get downstairs otherwise.

Malmaison Edinburgh is a chic waterfront hotel located in the vibrant Port of Leith, offering contemporary rooms and stylish suites. The Malmaison Brasserie serves delectable meals made with local produce, while the Mal Bar offers an array of cocktails and wines.
Fantastic location in an up-and-coming neighborhood full of little bars, coffee shops and restaurants, easy way to get to the old town on a tram. Chic hotel. The room didn't not have a thermostat/ AC in case that is important to you. We did not need it and just opened the window for ventilation, though, I found it surprising since other Malmaison Hotels had it.

The hotel is in a nice building, in a peaceful area of Edinburgh and close to a tram stop. The staff are attentive, polite and friendly. The rooms are a bit of a let down - my room had a constant noise coming from the extractor fan in the bathroom and was a bit cold: there isn’t central climate, rather you’re provided with a fan for when you’re cold, and an old style radiator that you have to turn on. The gym was a huge disappointment as per the photos. It’s tiny, with only 1 bench, and an incomplete set of dumbbells (missing the bottom row, weights from 8kg upwards), so practically unusable.

Stayed overnight on 4th October 2025, and overall it's a lovely hotel. But we felt that for the price of the room, it was slightly expensive and didn't really offer good value for money. However, the rooms and lovely, clean and the bed was very comfortable! The staff were pleasant and knowledgeable.

First time here. I like that its a bit out of town away from the crowds. Just a 10min drive gets you right back into it. The restaurants, coffee shops, & views out here are great. Room was lovely. The shower was hot & I took a long one with no issue. That's always my fave. Bed was comfy & staff made it every day since we opted out of the discount to skip service. If you like you can & thru give you a drinks credit. But we dont really drink. Also who doesn't love a nice made room after a long day walking around. Would recommend to others who want to visit Edinburgh. There is scaffolding on the building right now. Bit ugly but upkeep happens. Free parking right behind hotel was nice to have.

Malmaison Edinburgh is situated along the Leith riverside with an array of foodie establishments right on your doorstep. You definitely will be spoilt for choice on where to eat. Just around the corner from the Tram line the city centre is easily accessed making this an ideal location for those that want quieter evenings but still able to explore all that Edinburgh has to offer. The hotel is overall well presented and the service is exceptional. We did however find the room, whilst spacious, had a few niggles, like no electric sockets near the beds, and the carpet appeared slightly rucked. Despite that we would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it for it's location and proximity to so many great restaurants.

We came to Edinburgh for an eating and drinking experience and the staff here started our day on a a huge high! We were extremely thankful to be allowed to check in to our room early and decided to start our day with a cocktail and light bite in the hotel bar. Although we spent the day sampling cocktails and food from all the best places in Edinburgh, our cocktail at Malmaison, made by Hannah was the absolute best we had. Hannah made our experience so much lovelier, with her exceptional customer service and genuine, friendly manner. Thank you to Hannah and all the other staff for a day trip we will remember forever.

Amazing hotel and location , rooms nice , massively let done by waiting staff . Managed to get the order wrong, bring the wrong dishes after being corrected and then mess up the timing of the meals with each other. Breakfast was another disaster, no water or cutlery on the table , no clean glasses or plates by the self sever area and staff saying they are really tired . Letting the rest of the team down who on reception were excellent

The West End Hostel, located in Edinburgh's cultural center, offers private and dorm-style rooms with free Wi-Fi, a bar, and bistro. Situated near the Old Town and New Town, it provides easy access to the city's arts venues such as Royal Lyceum Theatre and Usher Hall concert venue. Despite being slightly away from the city center, it offers home-cooked food and a comfortable stay. The neighboring area is filled with exciting places to explore.
My partner and I stayed at the West End Hotel for 3 nights and the staff, especially the manager Lucas, was very accommodating to our situation. We have just moved to Edinburgh internationally and were waiting for our flat in the city to be finalized. Because we were moving, we had a lot of luggage and Lucas helped us find space to store it safely. The rooms were very clean. My partner and I were able to sleep together in a double bed - even though booking.com didn't allow us to specify that. Lucas really helped us out and was so understanding of our circumstances, which was much appreciated during the stressful international move.

The West End Hotel in Edinburgh feels more like a hostel than a traditional hotel. Rooms are reasonably priced, clean, quiet, and come with bunk beds, which is fine for budget travelers. There’s a small lobby with a bar downstairs, giving it a social atmosphere. However, there are a few drawbacks: no cabinets or lockers in the rooms to store belongings, and towels/amenities come at an extra charge. Overall, a good option if you’re looking for affordable, simple, and quiet accommodation rather than full hotel comforts. Additional point Iam adding if they provide curtains in all the bunkers bed people will have a own privacy. Service is best in this place.

Decent 2 nights stay. Rooms with 6 people are good. But they do have other rooms with 9 people and with single toilet. Those are not advisable. Staff are really helpful except the manager. Avoid weekends if you want a peaceful stay as Edinburgh stays gets expensive and cramped. Amenities are fine. Would recommend for short budget friendly stays.

I’ll start with the good. The staff was very kind, helpful and available. The location was as good as you’re gonna get for the price. The walk downtown is 20-25 full minutes (no less). It was super convenient to get to and from the airport. Affordable breakfast and laundry. Also, the beds were comfy, had chargers in them (mixed gender dorms). I slept extremely well. There was absolutely nowhere to put anything in the room (such as wall hooks, shelves, tables), so everyone was piling their things up on chairs (not enough chairs for the number of people). Secondly, since there was no mat in the bathroom, it was extremely wet after 6 people showered in there. Again, there was no where to place an item on a shelf while you brushed your teeth. There were vanity rooms in the hostel, but the one on our floor was out of service. The bathrooms were a little gross. I know it’s the fringe and lots is going on. I’m sure the staff is doing their best. Also, the luggage “storage” was a pile in the corner of the bar. We needed some kind of locker situation to store things.
Rebecca F — Google review
Liked the location, close to Haymarket, where you can take the tram or bus to city center or Airport. Quiet spot. Will definitely come back. Due to refurbishment not everything was tidy, but will come back to see what they have done with the place once it's finished. Prices are brilliant for the location.
Sandra M — Google review
is super clean, cozy and really well taken care of – everything looks nice and fresh. What made it even better was Łukasz, who runs the hostel. He’s such a cool, friendly and easy-going guy, always ready to help and have a chat. You can really feel he puts his heart into this place. Honestly, one of the best hostel experiences I’ve had – highly recommended! 🙌 Especially the value for money. 🫡
Szymon K — Google review
The hostel is in a good location. But... The service is awful! We were in a six-bed room where more than 3 people cannot even turn around. The bunk beds have a low clearance. We asked if it was possible to be alone for one night, as we were leaving early for the airport in the morning. They said there was no problem, but they still put someone else in the room with us. The rooms ARE NOT LIKE THE PICTURES! EVERYTHING IS DIRTY! HYGIENE IS 0!!!!!"
Tamara J — Google review
We arrived at 11 p.m. and our bed wasn't ready. The whole place is being refurbed and there was no indication when we booked that we'd be staying in a construction site. Room lacked basic facilities: no lockers or secure storage, or storage of any kind. No mirror anywhere in the bathroom or the room itself, and exposed wires hanging out of holes in the wall. Only a single towel hook in the bathroom for a room with 4 double beds. No shelves or tables in the rooms, so everyone's stuff is just dumped everywhere on the floor. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything coming from the attached bathroom. No bath mat for the (filthy) floor in the (tiny) bathroom, so water from the shower leaked everywhere. Mattress is way too soft. Guy at reception in the morning is rude. The 10 a.m. checkout time is ridiculous. Worst sleep of my life. Avoid this place at all costs.

Absolutely fantastic hotel for seeing the sights in Edinburgh. Loved our weekend stay and we actually got married here! The rooms were lovely, we had a complimentary upgrade to a suite as we had our ceremony here too. From the moment we arrived to check out the staff were fantastic; short notice pressing of my wedding dress was arranged without a problem by the front of house manager. Really appreciated all the little touches. Great place for getting about too; short walk to the castle, art gallery, Old Town, Christmas markets etc etc. Loved it :-)

Total eyesore that ruins George IV and the old town. Also, basically zero transparency or information available as to why it’s been under construction for so long. The beige block is under 20 years old, crazy that it needs such extensive maintenance. At least the 1960s Lothian Council Offices that preceded it were cool

Terrible experience — poor service, dirty rooms, and badly designed spaces We stayed as a family of four (two adults, two kids), and our experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, no help was provided for our luggage despite a steep entrance. The receptionist claimed to be “alone,” which was false — we saw other staff but none of them bothered to assist. We were left struggling with heavy luggage and kids after a long journey. The breakfast area was extremely cramped. It was so small we were constantly bumping into other guests just walking to our table. It felt chaotic and unpleasant, definitely not what you expect when paying for a relaxing holiday. We booked the Royal Mile Suite, which was large but poorly designed — the layout made no sense and the space felt dark and gloomy. Worst of all, the cleanliness was unacceptable. The suite was dirty everywhere, and honestly, it looked like they barely bothered to clean. We regretted booking this hotel and would absolutely not recommend it to families or anyone expecting even basic comfort or service. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

We came to Edinburgh for three nights and after looking at a lot of hotels decided on the Radisson Collection. We went for the premier collection on the top floor with a castle view. Lovely view, fridge did not work and was told by reception that it’s not really a fridge?? The bed was big and very comfy, no where to hang your coats in such a spacious room. Parking was great and very reasonable for a city. Breakfast was nice with a good choice although the bacon was terrible and under cooked and fatty. On our last day there was a big group of about 70 and they ran out if everything and when I asked a waiter for some items that had ran out he replied he was busy sorting out the juice. Would have thought he would have been better replenishing the food instead of cleaning the juice area and been more helpful. We enjoyed our stay, when we checked out I was not asked how our stay was? Friendly staff but for a 5 star a few minor issues.

LOVE THIS HOTEL! You walk inside and in but a moment you've entered this beautiful, modern oasis...your new home away from home...in one of the world's most extraordinary cities!! The reception desk staff are some of the most gracious and patient people I've had the pleasure to meet and interact with... They set the mood beautifully. My room was on the front side of the hotel and from my modern room the ancient building across the way was a perfect "opposites attract" kind of moment! Everything about my room was quirky, fun, hip, and most comfortable and quiet!! The giant shower was equally decadent and soothing all at the same time! My giant bed was sooooo equally comfortable and soothing after long days of walking all over Edinburgh.... Just saying! The breakfast buffet in the very nice dining room was quite delicious and full of choices that should appeal to even picky eaters. The staff aim to make everyone happy and I think they succeed beautifully! The neighborhood is quirky and the hotel is just around the corner and a short walk from Edinburgh Castle! I highly recommend this well-appointed modern hotel and the great team of personnel who all make it tick with great ease and excellence! Bravo!!

Really fantastic hotel, great views from most of the rooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we especially liked our surprise card and dessert for our anniversary that was left in our room. The hotel restaurant serves breakfast every day and it's cheaper to pay for it in advance than on the day. They have a continental buffet breakfast and a cooked breakfast option. Both were very tasty and good value for money. We also visited the restaurant in the evening one night and the food was delicious but the portion size (for the price) wasn't good value for money. There are so many good restaurants around the hotel that you can get better value for money and equally as good food in a few minutes walk. I would definitely recommend the hotel though and would be happy to go back. The rooms were very clean and tidy, the beds were very comfortable, if a little hard for our liking. The shower in the bathroom was great and the chairs in the room were comfortable too.

Superb hotel. Very clean and spacious rooms. Polite and attentive staff. Breakfast was ideal with a large selection both hot and cold foods. Wonderful bar area. The hotel is a perfect location for many shops and bars. Not too far to walk from main tram station of Waverley. A note of advice: Take a slightly longer stroll up the winding roads to get to the hotel if suitcases re heavy as the shorter routes are lots of steps. Old town is so much nicer to view with better architecture than the new town side of the city. I am so pleased I stayed on this old town side this time. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Good choice and friendly staff. Great restaurant, bar and spa. You can not get a better location than this hotel. It is right at the royal mile and diagonal alley. Be aware that the collection room might not be what is on the picture with the floor to ceiling windows and the view might be the backyard. Also, there was some of noice from the cleaners early morning. Happy with our stay, might just return here next visit to Edinburgh.

Excellent location in the heart of Edinburgh. Very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are well kept and modern, as well as comfortable. Our rooms had a great view of Dean's Village. Breakfast was simply the best! We had the best omelettes we've ever had, in all honesty. Excellent food, with many options to choose from. We highly recommend you stay here when visiting Edinburgh!

We loved this wonderful boutique hotel right near Dean's Village and not too far from Old Town, The Royal Mile, Castle and the tourist areas. The hotel was quaint & charming, the staff were very friendly & helpful, the breakfast had a nice variety of choices, including options for a freshly cooked meal served by their wonderful kitchen staff. Our room had a beautiful view of the cathedral and castle; I pre-ordered (fake) rose petals, chocolate and wine that were all displayed nicely in our room when we arrived. Also, the sheets were amazingly soft & comfortable! A side note: if you have mobility issues, the lift was very small (could only fit one person & their luggage at most), so we opted to take the stairs to and from our room. However, this was not a problem for us. Thank you for a welcoming stay for our first few nights in Scotland.

Very nice B+B in a location close enough to everything you want see or do while in Edinburgh. The service was awesome and everyone one was very nice and respectful. The only negative is the bedroom pillow where rather firm, would have been nice to have some feather pillows.

My stay was excellent, as it has always been for over 7 years. A big thank you to the breakfast staff, who are so attentive and adorable, and a special mention to my lovely Caitlin, who was a ray of sunshine during my short trip. Her kindness and smile were a delight. Thank you so much, Caitlin, for your kindness. You have a wonderful heart, and the hotel deserves to have you on staff.

Just returned (April 2025) from a stay at B & B Edinburgh, our last stay was in November 2023 and even back then standards had slipped, but we thought it might have been a one off. Sadly after our most recent experience it appears that standards have indeed plummeted. Room 7, 3rd floor at a huge & unsightly stain right down the middle of the blinds in our room. Our bed sheets were badly stained-not by us!! The breakfast was laughable, it used to be great but the ‘Big breakfast’ now consists of tiny portions and economy/budget ingredients. I saw the ‘Big breakfast’ arrive on other guests table, which caused much amusement, so I politely asked could I try the local Scottish ‘square’ sausage, potato scone and black pudding. I was told there was no square sausage or black pudding, I received a deep fried potato scone which was like leather and a tea spoon of haggis that resembled lead shot! It gets worse, our jug of milk was off, it curdled when we put it in our tea. There was no toast to be had, unless you ordered something like scrambled egg on toast! The other residents laughed at the micro size croissants be pastries, yet there was a huge chocolate fudge cake on offer. My wife and I have to be seriously pushed before giving polite, constructive feedback, but this was one occasion where we felt our money had been wasted so decided to. Whilst still at the breakfast table, we caught the attention of a waiter and showed him our cottage cheese flavour tea, he didn’t even take it away and offer fresh, he just said he would let the kitchen know. We also raised how poor the breakfast was, again, we got told I’ll let the kitchen know. In the end we left the breakfast room and checked out. We brought our room and food issues to the duty manager at reception and there was no offer of even giving a refund so we could buy breakfast elsewhere, which is exactly what we did. Sorry to say, terrible service, totally inadequate and a waste of money.

Hotel in a beautiful Victorian house. Close proximity to the downtown area. Inhouse Bar. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. Rooms are gorgeous, spacious and super comfortable. We were very satisfied!

Beautiful Georgian townhouse located in a peaceful and verdant residential area. The B+B offers a cosy bar and stunning library to rest and unwind after a daywalk. The bedroom was comfortable and spacious with a recently renovated bathroom. The latter would benefit from some layout adjustments, such as more hooks to hang the bath towels or clothes and a mirror shelf to store and/or display personal beauty care products throughout the stay. A heartfelt thanks to Caitlin for her professionalism, her help and friendly smile!

The Edinburgh B & B provided my husband with a great Edinburgh. The staff couldn't be nicer, the breakfast room overlooks a Unesco site and the the major sites are walkable. ( as a New Yorker) The neighborhood offers an arra of restaurants and services.

Nira Caledonia is a stylish and elegant boutique hotel located in Edinburgh, close to the picturesque Dean Village and the Water of Leith attraction. Housed in a period Georgian townhouse in Stockbridge, this hotel offers modern rooms with designer furniture, inviting baths, and plenty of space. The former home of 19th-century writer Christopher North exudes grandeur with its muted color palettes and in-room hot tubs.
Staff are great, especially want to mention Kyle and Stefan. We stayed twice at this hotel, at the beginning and end of a multi day tour. Each room is somewhat different, and the entire hotel is very charming. The hotel is a set of older houses that have been converted into a small, upscale luxury hotel. The hotel is walking distance to the central area of Edinburgh. At our second stay, we were in one of the basement rooms, which has a small garden shared with the room next door. In the evening we sat on the patio with some friends, great place for conversation and some quiet time. The restaurant at the hotel is very good, our stay included breakfast. We did not try everything offered, but everything we tried was excellent. WiFi was excellent and high performance. No elevator, stairs are narrow and winding due to the age and nature of the building. Staff were very helpful in moving our suitcases up/down

A grand building in the Georgian New Town district. They've managed to keep all of the charm of the original features of the stunning buildings. Our room was stunning with a small but modern bathroom. The place was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated and furnished (though a light on the desk would be nice). The dining room was warm and inviting and the breakfast was generous and DELICIOUS -- well worth the money. If you like a good, traditional, full Scottish breakfast, you're in for a treat! The real stand out, though, was the staff; they were truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived Kyle and the rest made us feel right at home; not like a hotel at all!

Absolutely loved our stay here. Thee staff were top notch. They really went the extra mile (Scottish Mile 😉) to make our stay special. From the exceptional breakfasts to start our day, to making a packed lunch special for us on a long tour day. The vibe was great. Totally walkable to shops and a wide variety of eateries and pubs on Rose Street nearby, to the special sites about town. Would we stay there again? The answer is aye!

This is a lovely hotel in a perfect Edinburgh location near water of Leith and Stockbridge. The rule of the day is steps ! The hotel has lots , our petite town house double was on the top floor of the second house but gave stunning views and a a quiet location . Only 15 mins from princes st but next to the trendy Stockbridge area with the excellent Scran and Scallie restaurant and independent stores, there is also a really good farmers market on a Sunday . The hotel is friendly and the staff are excellent . We ate there one night and the food was beautifully prepared and for Edinburgh reasonably priced . Hotels in the city are not cheap and this one is no different but overall excellent value for money . Our room had a bath , fridge kettle and espresso machine . Rooms were very clean and well serviced each day .

The experience was beyond perfect! I mentioned it was my birthday and got an upgrade to a beautiful room with lovely treats and a sweet card! I felt so special and delighted! The two reception staff were extremely polite, kind, and friendly, as was the lady who served us at breakfast. The room was spotless, the décor is amazing, and the location is in one of the most beautiful and charming neighborhoods in Edinburgh. I loved absolutely everything. Thank you for making my special moment even more memorable!

My stay at Nira Caledonia was truly unforgettable — a charming boutique hotel that felt like a hidden gem in the heart of Edinburgh. From the very beginning, the manager reached out before my arrival to make sure everything was perfectly arranged, which instantly made me feel cared for. Upon arrival, the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, making every interaction feel personal and sincere. My room was beautifully decorated with classic Scottish charm — every detail was elegant and thoughtfully chosen. I was deeply touched by the lovely birthday card and the delicious box of chocolates they surprised me with; such gestures made my vacation feel incredibly special and memorable. The hotel’s location in Stockbridge was wonderful — a stunning, authentic area just an 11-minute walk from New Town. It’s surrounded by everything you could need: a Sainsbury’s supermarket, cozy cafés, great restaurants, and even artisan cheese shops. I truly appreciated their attention to detail — from the high-quality Nespresso coffee to the luxurious L’Occitane toiletries, both among my favorite brands. These thoughtful touches made my stay extra comfortable and relaxing. Although it’s a boutique hotel, it was impressively peaceful, and the rooms were perfectly sound-insulated for a restful night’s sleep. The only point to note is that there are no elevators, which might be challenging for elderly guests or those with mobility needs. However, the team ensures everyone feels comfortable and well taken care of, offering accessible rooms and exceptional service. Nira Caledonia made my vacation so special and memorable — I would return in a heartbeat. A perfect blend of historic charm, modern comfort, and heartfelt hospitality. I left with the warmest memories and can’t wait to come back!

It' s a really nice, little hotel. The stuff is really nice and helpful and they serve a very good breakfast. The Old Town and places to shop aren't far away, making it easy to walk if you don't have a car. II'd definitely book a room again, if i return to Edinburgh one day.

Nira Calededonia is a lovely boutique hotel. The restaurant is very nice and the location is superb. It's in the quiet neighborhood of Stockbridge, not far from the Water of Leith Walkway which is lovely, and nice cafes and shops. Also walkable to the Royal Mile and the Mound in about 20 minutes. Or by bus. While we mostly enjoyed our stay, we were disappointed with our room. It was one flight down from reception, on a lower level. It was in a hallway that is also used for service by the restaurant, close to the restaurant bathroom and storage, so there are lots of comings and goings of guests or employees, and deliveries outside our window starting early morning. The outer service entrance door would slam shut and it would shutter our room door, sounding as if someone was trying to get inside our space. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom was modern, clean and nice with an enjoyable shower/bath supplied with nice products and lotions (L'Occitane). But the carpets leading to and inside the room were stained and dirty from traffic. Not what you'd expect from a 4 star place. There was also a tiny portal like window in our room, a cute feature in the day, but would allow the security light outside our room to shine on our faces in bed at night (without an easy way to cover it up). All in all, we felt we were given a second rate room in a service hall, as the upper floors and other areas were lighter and seemingly fresher looking. Otherwise, could have been a 5 star experience for us. The positives were the excellent housekeeping, and a staff that was curteous and helpful.

Cheval The Edinburgh Grand offers elegant apartments within a luxurious hotel, featuring a formal restaurant and sophisticated bar. Situated in a prime city location surrounded by upscale shops and dining options, the hotel boasts an American Art Deco lobby with exquisite architectural details. The Register Club exudes exclusivity with its traditional club ambiance. The hotel reopened after a lavish reinvention, now housing 50 family-friendly apartments of various sizes, including a spacious penthouse suite.
We had a great four night stay at the Edinburgh Grand in a 2 BR Deluxe apartment. The flat was well laid out and exactly as the pictures showed. Laundry and dishwasher worked well and the beds were super comfortable. Also appreciated that the kitchen was well stocked had nice wine glasses not the cheap thick ones. I wouldn’t consider the hotel a typical five star with staff everywhere but what small staff they had was super friendly and efficient with great suggestions on sights and dining (being able to chat with them via app was a great touch). Even with the small staff we were never lacking for service or any requests. We had a couple very minor maintenance issues and they promptly fixed them. Very much enjoyed our stay and really appreciated the large comfortable apartment.

We loved this staff and location. We traveled here from America for our honeymoon and they made us feel like celebrities. The food upstairs was great, our room was lovely. The location couldn’t be any better right next to Waverly and the buses. We will always remember our stay here, and the staff. Joe was the best, and she deserves more than money could buy. She’s one of the main reasons we loved our stay so much. Thanks Joe!!! Much love to this place and we hope to come back someday.

After an emergency flight home upon the death of our son Aaron (42 years old) I send this note to the Edinburgh Grand staff: To Jo; Tuesday morning 7:27am, We are home safely. We arrived on time yesterday afternoon and went directly from the airport to see Aaron's wife and children. We were spent when we pulled into our drive at 7:30pm. Jo, we cannot thank you enough for all your assistance to us during our brief stay at the Grand. We were at a loss on how to proceed, and you were there! Harvey was also always there to help us with any needs we had. Your whole staff, from the moment we stepped into your lobby, were gracious and attentive, and became more so after word spread of our devastating news from home. Regarding that revelation, I am especially thankful that one of your wait-staff during breakfast asked us if she'd see us the next day (Monday) for breakfast and we felt comfortable enough with her to share our dilemma. She obviously shared what she learned with the management because you showed up at our room shortly after. As we continue making our funeral plans through the week we will be thinking of you and the staff at the Grand. Please know that you have all made a difference to our family and you have a special place in our hearts. Kevin & Carrie Brooks

My daughter got married in this superb hotel last Friday. It is situated in a central location, easily accessible and within 10 minutes walk from the train station. The ceremony room was exquisite and large enough for 40 of us. The director suite for the newlyweds was stunning . We had also hired the penthouse for the reception afterwards for 50 people, where we had great time and the most amazing views over the city of Edinburgh. The immediate family slept in the penthouse. The rooms were very clean and beautifully decorated. All the staff were attentive and helpful, and they worked very hard to please us. Obviously, they couldn't please everybody, but they tried their very best!! Thank you so much! We have greatly appreciated your effort and hard work.

I haven’t stayed in this hotel but this was more of a review if you were looking to book your wedding at this venue. I am really disappointed after my partner and her mum took a trip down to the hotel to have a look at the space for weddings, she loved it and we were really keen to book this hotel for our wedding day. However, the events team are terrible at replying to emails, after trying to book the venue for our wedding day we have sent them a couple of emails chasing up if we could put a deposit down to save our date with no reply whatsoever. If your looking to have your special day here I hope your patient and would avoid if you want to get your wedding day booked.

EDIT: I changed my review from 2 stars to 3 because they gave us another room since the maintenance people probably wouldn't be coming to fix the bathroom fan until Monday (today is Saturday). Room had a poor / very inconvenient layout and very little privacy. Our bathroom fan didn't work so the entire bathroom was soaking wet after one shower and the shower head refused to stay put. Additionally, we were under the impression (judging by the pictures and 3-D interactive layout of our room that we'd have an alcove and "master bedroom" that had a much better layout, but no, it was a LOFT room listed as an alcove, meaning you had to go up a flight of stairs and climb into the bed area to get to the bed which had a weird step that went up to about knee-height. Also, there was very little space for luggage anywhere in the room and in the loft area, there's a bit of a split level of about an inch so you can't uses the metal rack things they provided for storage either. I could go on and on about how bad this room was, but I think I'd run out of words. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and I know it wasn't their fault, but for a luxury hotel? Do better.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel at the end of our trip. Although the room was already paid for via Costco, we were charged again on the card that we put down for incidentals. I have called the hotel about this twice. The first time, the overcharge was acknowledged and I was told our card would be credited. It did not happen. The second time, the guest services rep. said it would be looked into and we would be called back. This also didn’t happen. I will now dispute the charge with the credit card company. This should not be happening with a luxury hotel.

The Albyn Townhouse is a charming B&B located in a Victorian townhouse that was formerly the St Oswald Church Manse. It offers a blend of contemporary and vintage decor, along with complimentary Wi-Fi. Situated at the end of a peaceful tree-lined cul-de-sac in the popular Bruntsfield area, it provides easy access to Edinburgh's Old Town and main attractions.
Lovely stay. We felt welcome and accommodated. The room was extremely comfortable and spacious and we had everything we needed. The bed was a dream and the internet fast and I had a lovely seat by the window to work. Not as close to the centre but near and accessible by multiple modes of transport. Would definitely stay again! Only wish would be that the check out wasn’t at 10am as we would have loved to enjoy the room a little longer!

I stayed in this lovely home for two nights, and it was everything I needed. I was traveling by car, so I needed a place to park, and Albyn offers parking at a more than fair price. The house is about a 20-minute walk from the Old Town—an enjoyable walk that eventually runs alongside the Meadows, which I highly recommend getting lost in on your way to the center. The property is charming, clean, and tastefully decorated; the room was comfortable and spacious. Lydie, the host, is a wonderful person to chat with—kind, helpful, and she makes the experience even more enjoyable. Thank you for everything, we’ll definitely be back. Ciao!

We enjoyed this slightly off the beaten track B&B. It was in an excellent part of Edinburgh in an older history laden building. Owner is very informative and helpful to guide guest to local food and venue options. Pros: good location, accessible transit, plenty of good eateries in the area, quiet, clean property. Cons: some worn edges to the property (carpet) but generally well maintained & clean so is only a nit comment Overall: I would absolutely recommend this property & would give it a 4.75 rating

My husband and I loved our stay at Albyn Townhouse! From the moment we stepped through the front door, Lydie made us feel so welcome and cared for. She provided us with a map and detailed directions of the best way to get to the Royal Mile, offered recommendations for what to do, and was so kind in asking us about our trip so far and offering tips for exploring the city. Her warmth and enthusiasm were truly an asset that set our stay apart! On top of that, the room was exceptionally comfortable and well-kept. Also, highly recommend ordering the breakfast-in-bed at least one morning of your stay. It was absolutely delicious and so luxurious to enjoy the full spread in the comfort of our room! One thing to keep in mind is that Albyn Townhouse is outside the main tourist part of the city. It wasn't a problem for my husband and I, as we enjoyed the 20-30 minute walk through a lovely park each morning. But if you're looking for super quick access to the Royal Mile and other tourist attractions, Albyn Townhouse may be a bit far from the hub.

Nestled along the Water of Leith, Dean Village in Edinburgh offers a peaceful retreat with its well-preserved 19th-century buildings, lush gardens, and a museum. This tranquil oasis provides a glimpse into the city's industrial past as a milling hub. Ideal for photography enthusiasts and those seeking off-the-beaten-path exploration, it's also perfect for families looking to enjoy leisurely riverside strolls and scenic picnics.
A truly lovely village with barely any noise in the area with relaxed and chill vibes. One of the best place to visit here in Edinburgh for any first time tourists in Europe. As you walk around the village, you can really feel the village’s old history and you really feel like you’re there. This place is the best for many generations to come.

Such a beautiful village you just can’t stop yourself from taking photos of everything. We walked from Princes Street and it took us roughly only 15 minutes! If you are able to walk I would recommend it as it will save you money from buses and trams. We went on a Sunday in October and it wasn’t too busy and it didn’t take us long to walk around the village either. On our way back we walked along the river on Miller Row and under the Dean bridge which was such a calm, scenic, beautiful walk. I highly recommend visiting Dean Village if you are in Edinburgh and taking yourself along the river walk !

It's an absolute must visit. It's only a 15-20 min walk away from the old town. I recommend visiting early in the morning when it's a lot less crowded. It's a small village but the views are extraordinarily stunning. My only issue with this place was that there were no benches alongside the Water of Leith Walkway to enjoy the scenery.

Dean Village in Edinburgh was a delightful experience for us on a sunny afternoon in September 2024. My wife and I were captivated by the charming, historic architecture that gives the village a timeless feel. The highlight was definitely the peaceful walk along the water, which offered stunning views and a sense of tranquility in the heart of the city. We took plenty of photos to capture the beauty of the day, and it truly felt like a perfect escape. Highly recommend Dean Village for anyone visiting Edinburgh who appreciates history, nature, and picturesque settings!

Truly lovely place to quietly walk through. Easy walk down hill from Prince's Street - although be ready to walk back up again! As we learned on a tour there, please be courteous as you wander the streets. People live there and have to deal with tourists each and every day. Kindly be quiet and don't go onto people's private property for you pics. It's about the place, not you.

The Hilton Edinburgh Carlton is a Victorian hotel located in a prime shopping area of Edinburgh. It offers modern rooms, a gym, and a restaurant with city views. The hotel features 211 rooms with city views and is conveniently situated near popular attractions such as the historic fortress 'Edinburgh Castle' and the Leith Princes Street. Guests can also enjoy amenities like a beauty salon, Jacuzzi, and solarium on-site.
We stayed for four nights in a hotel housed within a 600+ year old building, and while renovations are understandably necessary, we never once heard any construction noise. It was incredibly quiet—we didn’t hear our neighbors or even hallway traffic. The room itself was beautiful: luxurious, comfortable, and very well-appointed. Yes, there’s some street noise, but that’s to be expected in a lively, tourist-heavy area. If you’re sensitive to sound, bring a white noise machine. The front desk staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, even offering great suggestions for things to do with our kids. We felt safe throughout our stay. While it’s true you don’t need a key card for the elevator, you do pass directly by the front desk on the way—so it never felt like a security concern. The location is unbeatable—everything was within walking distance, with fantastic restaurants, great coffee (Gordon’s Coffee is a must), and lots to see and do. Our street-facing room had a lovely view and big bay windows—perfect for some fun people-watching. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and we’d definitely return next time we’re in Edinburgh.

Breakfast offered a great variety, with both hot and cold options, and everything was fresh and well-presented. I also appreciated the elegant design of the hotel and the blend of modern comfort with historic charm. Overall, a very enjoyable stay. I would happily return and recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Perfect location in Edinburgh. Lovely spacious and comfortable rooms. Expensive, but it is central Edinburgh. The lounge and bar wasn't good, kind of feels like a train station waiting area. Beautiful Hotel & Outstanding Service! The Hilton Edinburgh Carlton is absolutely beautiful! The breakfast was really good, and the location couldn’t be better — right in the center of everything, so you can easily walk anywhere. We didn’t get the chance to experience the Executive Lounge since we spent most of our time out exploring the city, but every single employee we encountered was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. You could tell they genuinely cared about the guests — their smiles were sincere, and it was clear they truly love what they do. A special thank you to Edwin from Concierge, who was amazing! He helped us with our bags and gave us clear, patient instructions on how to get to the train station after checkout. He even drew us a map to make sure we wouldn’t get lost — such a thoughtful touch! You can really see how much he enjoys helping people. Also, kudos to Awa, who was so kind, helpful, and always had a genuine smile while answering all of our questions. Overall, our stay was wonderful. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Thank you to the entire team for such a pleasant stay — keep up the amazing work!

Location is perfect - you couldn't get closer to both the station and old town. It is a bit noisy if you have a room facing onto the main street, but the location is ideal. The bar area and rooms are beautifully designed. At the time we stayed - November 2025 - there was scaffolding all over the front of the building which was our view, but obviously necessary work. Also the windows couldn't be opened in our room which may put some people off but there is decent AC and the room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was amazing - something for every taste. Many thanks to Edwin the concierge, Alana on reception, Hannah on breakfast, Immaculate on the Exec lounge, and Roman on the bar for their hospitality - they went out of their way to help us. Every member of staff we encountered was wonderful but couldn't catch all their names - such a great team of staff. Will definitely stay here again.

Rooms and hotel's location was perfect. Staff was very nice. Executive lounge's food variety was weak. Elevators were not meeting the capacity of the hotel. They were no slippers in our room and I asked for it 4 times during day and they finally delivered it. As a diamond member guest, they especially prepare our needs beforehand while we stay at Hilton Group Hotels, yet even basic needs in our room was not there during our visit.

Weak recognition as an HHonors elite… needed to be prodded to get the free breakfast. Most European hiltons also offer an in room amenity to their elites … not this one. There is construction going on and we specifically asked for a quiet room, had to walk over long distances and carry luggage over stairs to reach the room after a 14 h journey with no bell hop assistance. The breakfast buffet was meh, way below other hiltons in Europe. Only positive was the hotel packed a to go bag for us when we requested one when he had an early morning tour The remodeled bathroom was a stupid design with a half glass door instead of a full one for the shower stall and did nothing to contain the water as a result the floor was always wet and slippery. Ordered a margarita pizza from room service - was no better than one taken out from a low end frozen pizza brand and warmed up. Location was excellent for walking distance to most of top Edinburgh attractions but the above shortcomings do not warrant a repeat stay.

Popped into the new bar Herbie Morrs for a cocktail. Probably the best Espresso Martini I've ever had. Do not leave Edinburgh without trying one. It was made even more special by the 1st class service from Sophie, who made our visit to the bar even more memorable.

The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh is a sleek and modern property that offers free Wi-Fi, a top-notch spa, and a vibrant restaurant. Situated in Festival Square with stunning views of Edinburgh Castle, this large corporate hotel is centrally located near the Royal Mile and New Town. The hotel's renowned One Spa features an array of luxurious amenities including a rooftop hydra pool, infinity pool, sun terrace, and various treatments. Guests can enjoy personalized wellness experiences tailored to their individual needs.
We cannot say enough great things about our stay at the Sheraton. The moment we walked in we were greeted and made to feel at home. Excellent view of the castle from our room, amazing staff, great food, very clean facilities, and relaxing ambiance. We were treated with courtesy and respect, and made to feel like we were family. We had such a great stay that we didn’t want to leave. Sheraton thank you for all you did to make our stay memorable.

Stayed at this hotel a number of times and I have to say this was the worst expensive experience yet. One Spa - the thermal pool was missing the thermal. There had been a storm the day before. Why offer this service at full rate and not say before we paid a fortune to use the spa? Breakfast - total car crash with the staff running around like headless chickens overwhelmed and really not providing a 5star experience apart from excuses they were short staffed. Not my problem that I had to wait nearly 30 minutes for a coffee, things not replaced as they ran out and only replacing things when guests asked for it. Very poor service. Bring back the buffet breakfast where you could help yourself. The room - we booked and extra day..housekeeping didn't make up room as they thought we were leaving. Poor communication within hotel. The toilet broke too. The shower in the room was worse than a travel lodge shower...come on its 5 star....expect a overhead rainfall shower at least. Overall the hotel is in need of putting their staff through hospitality training. The hotel is tired. I've been coming here over 10 years and it hasn't changed much in that time....disappointing.

Probably more of a 4.5 star. We got the club level castle view, which was great all except the rooms got very warm and the AC would not keep in either room. Very comfortable beds, but the rooms were a bit tight, and the lights throughout room were weird to operate. Club was very good, and the food was well prepared and enough, with a nice happy hour offering. It seemed by midweek, there was a lot of business meetings and interviews in the club lounge, which made it hard to just unwind and relax - but maybe thats what it is there for? Warning at the beginning of October there was a cocktail event right beside the hotel that was super loud. Fortunately it was kicking off as we were leaving, so only had it for one night.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh. The rooms were spacious and beautifully appointed, with a stunning master bathroom. One of the highlights was the incredible view of Edinburgh Castle from our window, especially magical when lit up at night. We also made full use of the spa, and wow!!it exceeded expectations. From the outdoor jacuzzi overlooking the city skyline, to multiple steam rooms, saunas, and peaceful relaxation areas, it truly offered every amenity you could want for a luxurious wellness experience. The staff were warm, attentive, and extremely helpful, and the buffet breakfast was wonderful with plenty of delicious options. Overall, a fantastic stay!! we would highly recommend it for comfort, luxury, and an unforgettable Edinburgh experience.

This is easily one of the best hotels in the Edinburgh area. The location, staff, food, and pool are all top tier. First off one of the defining factors of a hotels quality is how staff handles things when there is an issue with a room. My initial room had an issue with the climate controls, and after repairs failed the desk staff quickly moved me to another room and gave me a small bonus for my “trouble”. That kind of ownership and action turns what would be a negative on a hotel into a positive experience. Well done. The stand out feature of this hotel is the pool, hands down. It’s just excellent and has good open hours too. There are two areas of the pool, the regular hotel pool and a spa hydro pool area. The hydro pool is not included in the hotel stay, and I believe it was $40 for three hours. If you like pools, it’s well worth it. A bunch of steam rooms and saunas also come with that. However even without that the base hotel pool is still awesome and you could happily spend time there instead. The room was clean and good sized. I found the bathroom to be a stand out feature as it was quite unique and had a nice tub. Beds were comfortable and linens excellent. For those wondering if the club level rooms (that get you access to the lounge) are “worth it”, I would say it depends on if you plan on spending time at the hotel or being out a lot. The food was solid for what it was, and the free drinks from 5-7 is a great way to pregame before heading out. The breakfast offering was good as well. The location of the hotel is perfect, lots of stuff in walking distance. It’s not a cheap hotel, but I actually consider it a good value for the quality. I will return for sure.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 9 nights. Checking in was a breeze, the staff at the lounge was attentive and professional, breakfast was great, our room was clean and comfortable, and the location is very convenient. We read the reviews before booking this hotel, and we were concerned about some of the issues people complained about, but we didn't experience any problems. We felt welcomed and would like to come back.

The room was certainly beautiful. But the "built-in" bathroom offers no privacy. The concept is stylish but this "glass box" doesn't isolate any noise nor odors. Additionaly, the shower stinks a lot due to poor ventilation.

Motel One Edinburgh Royal is a trendy yet affordable hotel that offers stylish rooms and a chic bar with complimentary Wi-Fi. Situated in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, this hotel provides easy access to various tourist attractions. The interior boasts botanical-themed decor alongside traditional tartan furnishings and artwork by photographer Thomas Effinger. Guests can savor local whisky at the bar or explore the neighborhood on foot.
Lovely location...very central to everything. A block from train station, a block down from the Royal Mile, a block from the park and 3 blocks to Prince St and George St. Everything in walking distance. Fabulous restaurants all around you. The hotel was lovely. The bar and lounge area are very relaxing after a day of touring. Friendly staff and lovely rooms!

Best location for a hotel in Edinburgh. As someone who use to live in the city - you cannot get more central. rooms are the size of a shoe box - so as long as your not claustrophobic you’ll enjoy your stay. it’s cheap - great spot - little breakfast bar in the morning downstairs.

We stayed at the Motel One Edinburgh Royal three times during our trip to Scotland and could not have picked a better hotel. The location was perfect- so close to the airport bus, the train station, the bus station, and the Royal Mile. The three rooms we stayed in did vary in size and layout with some much more favorable than others, but they were all sufficient for our needs. Finally, big shout out to the evening bartender Bo who provided great service every night.

We stayed at Motel One Edinburgh-Royal in The One with View room, and it was absolutely perfect. The view was breathtaking — exactly what I had hoped for when planning our trip. After arriving from London, stepping into that room instantly washed away the fatigue and made me smile. The location couldn’t have been more convenient: just steps from Waverley Station, close to the airport bus stop, and within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and other main attractions. Whether travelling by train, bus, or plane, this hotel is ideally situated — for us, having arrived by train and flying out later, it couldn’t have been more perfect. The hotel was stylish, peaceful, and comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, and check-in was effortless after a long journey. As a non-native speaker, I wish I could’ve expressed my gratitude to them more fully in person — they truly made our stay wonderful. I’d love to return to the same room on my next visit to Edinburgh.

This is a fantastic hotel! Steps away from the train station and busses to/from the airport. The rooms were really nice, I got one with a view and it was incredible. It was so easy to walk everywhere from the hotel! My biggest complaint is that I only spent one night there. I will definitely be back!

Stayed here for 4 nights in October. Location is really central and ideal to explore the city. The room had a good size, was clean and adequately equipped. There was even a "europe-style"-outlet as well as USB charging options. However, there were no outlets on the bathroom (so you had to dry your hair in the main room) and no glasses (which I had to get from the bar). Room was facing the road on the 3rd floor (which is only like 3m above road level due to the elevation). The windows were rather thin so noises from the road were easily audible, gladly there was not too much traffic. Connection to the TV was rather slow (long loading times) but we enjoyed the displayed "fireplace" that welcomed us every time we entered the room. The breakfast had a good quality, sadly there is no warm food (no bacon, beans, scrambled eggs or the like) except for boiled eggs and toast, also I was missing fruitsalad. However, the place where you have breakfast is really not that nice. You are sitting in the bar/lobby area, which means a) most of the tables are too low, b) there is a lot of people just passing through on their way out of or into the hotel, c) there is always cold air coming in through the front door whenever someone enters or leaves. This really spoils the overall breakfast experience adn there should be a separate room where you can sit down and eat the breakfast. Front desk and cleaning staff were friendly. Bar staff as well and also competent in their recommendations. Room prices are not cheap but OK for what you get when you consider the crazy price level in Edinburgh.

Stay was good, nice large rooms, excellent location, front desk are friendly and helpful I’m just struggling to understand why on earth one of the housekeepers would be knocking on my door at 9.45am?? Check out is at 12. What are you doing?? I think it’s the same one that is blasting music out of a tv in the room she’s cleaning, which you can hear down the corridor. Are they aware of paying customers which are sleeping??

Perfect location and lovely hotel. Have stayed here a couple times now. This time, we got quite a small pokey room with no view compared to last time. I still highly recommend this hotel as its reasonably priced and the location is so central for both new town and old town.

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, the Aparthotel Adagio Edinburgh Royal Mile offers a delightful blend of modern comfort and home-like independence. This stylish property features contemporary studios and one-bedroom apartments, complete with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a handy kitchenette for those who enjoy cooking. The vibrant interiors boast deep sea blue walls paired with burnt orange sofas that create an inviting atmosphere. Guests can unwind in the cozy lounge or find tranquility in the serene enclosed courtyard.
Located on the Royal Mile, the Adagio Apart hotel Edinburgh is within walking distance to many of the city attractions. A short walk up to Edinburgh Castle is good exercise for those who don't have a car in the city. A public car park is two streets over and conveniently offers a discount for guests. (Ask at the reception desk for details.) The room was large and has a small kitchen complete with a full-size refrigerator, a microwave, and a dishwasher. There is plenty of storage space for clothing and suitcases and a very lovely bathroom with a large shower. The aparthotel Adagio has a guest laundry in the basement where long stay guests have access to the facility 24-hours a day. There is a gym in the basement level for anyone wanting a workout in addition to walking around Edinburgh. Princess Street and the Waverly Train Station are in walking distance from the hotel. Although there is no loading area for drop off or pickup at the hotel you can store luggage before checking in. The reception is open 24-hours a day for any questions guests may have. You will need to have your room key handy to access the front doors after 11 PM and to call the lift/elevator. The rooms are clean and comfortable with maid service and fresh towels available upon request.

We stayed for three nights in a twin room with kitchen facilities. The apartment was very clean and comfortable and had all we needed. We were very centrally located for exploring many parts of the city by foot and although the apartment overlooked the Royal Mile, it was fairly quiet at night. Staff at check in and when we needed help with the air conditioning were friendly and helpful. Only issue was, arriving at 3pm, and tired from our journey, we had to wait a while to check in, but I appreciate this was probably a busy time of day. Overall, we'd definitely recommend this Aparthotel and we'd happily stay there again.

I stayed at Adagio Aparthotel for three nights and had a great experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful, both at check-in/check-out and whenever I had questions. The location is unbeatable – walking distance from the train station and from the airport bus stop, which made everything very convenient. The room was clean and comfortable, with a spotless bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen that made it easy to prepare meals. Everything felt organized and practical, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. If you’re looking for a place that combines comfort, convenience, and a welcoming team, this is an excellent choice.

We booked this apartment hotel for 2nights as these were at reasonable price for our family size(4adults) and within walking distance of most of the attractions. Its in Royal Mile which is the main street with most of the attractions in Edinburgh. The rooms are tight and basic, but no complaints as our primary purpose is site seeing. No parking, so have to use the public parking and the hotel has an discounted prize of 18GBP per day/24hrs, the parking facility is 5-10mins walk. Laundry is available would cost 3GBP for washing and 2GBP for drying. Small rooms with very little space to move around and single toilet/bathroom. Overall decent.

We loved our stay at the Adagio! We stayed for 5 nights. The location is in a quieter part of the Royal Mile area and close to lots of great restaurants and shops. It is also very close to Waverly Station. The room was clean and well appointed. We used the kitchenette to heat up leftovers from restaurants and to make coffee and tea. The staff was very accommodating. We would definitely stay again!

This hotel benefits from an unbeatable location, making it incredibly easy to explore all of Edinburgh's famous sites. The proximity to both the central train station and a car rental drop-off point was a major plus. The staff were polite and provided perfectly adequate service. A pleasant surprise was the compact yet fully-functional kitchenette, which allowed us to cook basic meals. That said, when taking into account the overall standard and size of the room, the rate felt somewhat inflated.
Amanda L — Google review
I’ve made a reservation for 4 people (2 elderly + 1 adult and 1 pre-schooler). When we arrived there the receptionist was unfriendly and she also told me that I had to make 2 beds (pull out the sofa bed, make up linens, etc). The room appeared cleaned but once my daughter took her shoes off to play on the floor her socks were completely dirty. As we had already set up the beds we decided to use wipes on the room floor and go for a walk. The room has no phone to talk with the reception. The shower was horrible, the hair dryer was faulty - you had to use it in only one position because of a faulty cable, the dishwasher didn’t work. They just “clean” the room once a week. The breakfast wasn’t good. The eggs were dry, the baked beans weren’t good quality, there was no nutella. The breakfast staff were rude and unfriendly. The only positive is the location. You’re able to do everything on foot. Accor should remove the 4* in their adds as it’s not a 4* hotel. It’s just a long stay accommodation. As we were just going to stay for 2 nights and had plenty to do in the city we stayed there. Definitely not worth the money you pay. Avoid!!
Fernanda A — Google review
I would expect a '4 star' apartment hotel to have some comfortable seating in the studio rooms, not just one basic wooden chair and two high stools. The bathroom door was distintegrating at the bottom, the air-con in our room had a permanent error (E01) and didn't work for much of the time, blowing cold air regardless of the setting. Unlike other ApartHotels in the chain there was no toaster, and we were told all the heated towel-rails had been disconnected for safety - so towels stayed damp. Not what I would expect for at the room rate we paid.

The Grassmarket Hotel offers quirky and contemporary rooms with unique features like comic-strip wallpaper and magnetic maps of the city. The hotel has a retro ambiance with traditional Scottish hospitality. It's a popular choice for families due to its affordable pricing and convenient location. Guests appreciate the small yet cozy rooms, friendly staff, and fantastic location in Edinburgh's lively area. The hotel is known for its fun and vintage decor, making it an ideal place to stay while exploring the city.
The hotel and staff were lovely. We enjoyed our stay. There is a lift but also some stairs to some rooms. Our room was big with 3 single beds. Windows where difficult but the room its self was lovely and the shower room was beautiful. Would return to here again

Absolutely fantastic location. Middle of everything. You can get to pretty much all the tourist attractions and the train station in a 10 minute walk. Friendly staff, decent rooms, good bathrooms, and ac in unit. I’ll only say that we were on the 3rd floor away from the pub. We could not hear it. But if you are on the first or even second toward the front of the building, you most likely will hear the pub… a lot. Our room was kind of odd to get to. Lift only went up one floor and then we had to take 2 flights of stairs and a couple of doors. Only other complaint is that the blinds on the window weren’t much, so make sure you have a sleep mask if coming in the summer months. But other than that. Had a great stay for two nights!

We had a great stay here for 2 nights. You can't beat the location and I was genuinely surprised how quiet our top-floor rooms were...must be the 2-foot thick walls. A/C was effective the few times we used it which was a surprising luxury to have, and our mattresses were comfy. Our room was clean if a bit tight, but that was to be expected of the whole structure of the hotel given how old it is. Breakfast was in the adjoining pub which was a bit dark and on small sticky tables but there was no denying the food was very tasty and the wait staff was friendly. If you want a nice base of operations for a royal mile visit and don't mind tight quarters, its a good one!

Fantastic Rooms, immaculate and feature rich. TV, integrated speaker system that connects to your phone, lovely decor and a brilliant shower. Staff were really friendly and happy to help, they really added to the experience in even only my brief interactions with them. This place also seems to attract very friendly guests. I got a free upgrade on arrival, to a room much bigger than I needed, and they held my bag until check in time at 3pm with a tag and ticket system so it doesnt get lost/mishandled. Location is absolutely perfect, everything in Edinburgh that you might want to see is in walking distance from here. Its also situated in a very beautiful part of Edinburgh. The only downside is the parking. On the website they recommend the Castle Terrace NCP car park. This is an absolute rip-off car park and definitely do not go there. If you have a small car and are a confident driver, prebook the apcoa Spittal Street parking, its about a 10 min walk (same as NCP) and is 12.50 per 24hrs as opposed to NCPs 36! For larger cars find the Princes Exchange car park, its 18.50 for 24hrs no pre-book required and a 15 min walk. A much more comfortable car park to get in/out of with less hassle. Food and Drink is provided by an attached pub, but is run independently. Decent food for breakfast with fair offerings for the price, and very friendly staff as well.

This hotel is horrible. First off, the lift drops you off a million miles from your room and you will surely get lost as you transverse the winding hallways and clamber over the tripping hazards that are the bags of towels and linens strewn along the corridors. When you finally arrive at your room, you’ll see that it’s tiny. The double beds touch three of the walls so one person will have to climb over the other to get in and out. It’s roasting. The aircon is abysmal and the room is boiling and humid. You’d think opening the window was a good option? You’d be wrong. If you’re lucky enough to get the window to stay open, you’ll probably be met with a bug, a spider, or worse, a rat in the night after it climbs in from the window box or grassy ledge outside. The walls in our room were filthy. There was some sort of brown liquid running down the wall next to the head of whichever unfortunate person got the inside of the bed. Attention to detail is clearly not the cleaners forte. The bathroom door may as well not exist. The frosted glass door doesn’t latch and there are huge gaps at its sides. Did I mention the room is tiny? Good luck having any privacy… Last, and certainly least, the STENCH. As soon as we opened the door to our room we were hit with the worst smell of SEWER GAS. We had to run the water to hopefully clear the pipes which did very little to solve the problem. Luckily though, the smell of sewer gas was often over powered by the smell of MOULD. This hotel kindly offers a spare blanket, in case you get cold in the boiling hot room, and a complimentary tote bag. You cannot begin to imagine the smell of mould that has latched on to these garments. I assume the tote bag is complementary because you could not sell such a biohazard. We were miserable in this hotel. We felt dirty every second we endured there and for €225 euro a night I would expect A LOT more. I almost took the tote bag to feel like I got something for money but I value my health too much. It’s only saving grace is the location but you can find better close by. I cannot stress enough that you NEED TO AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS! Save yourselves a miserable few days here!

Absolutely fantastic spot! The location was AMAZING! Right in the heart of everything! The team were so friendly and accomodating, we even had a bottle of Prosecco and a branded tote bag left as gifts for our arrival. Kick Ass Grassmarket is a modern hostel located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, just a short walk from the Royal Mile. The hostel offers basic dorm rooms as well as pod beds for added privacy, similar to those found in Tokyo capsule hotels. With its social vibe and in-house bar, it's an ideal choice for solo travelers looking to meet new people. The property also features private lockers, night lights, USB charging points, and power outlets for added convenience.
Ali was absolutely incredible — so helpful, full of great advice about the area, and just an all-around fun character who made the experience even better. I stayed in a pod room, which had great features and a surprisingly comfortable bed. I also loved meeting like-minded travelers in the room; it made for such a fun and social atmosphere. The location is superb, right in the heart of everything. The staff were all fun, professional, and welcoming. I can’t wait to come back to Scotland and stay here again! Highly recommend.

Good experience for a first time in a hostel. The location is excellent and staff friendly. I stayed in a pod room. The pod was ok, pretty comfortable and nice privacy. The ventilation is pretty bad tho, so at night you get sweaty if the curtain is closed. First night people were quite noisy at night, you hear every little thing so people coming back from bars at night is noticeable. Second night was a lot more calm, so depends on the people staying there with you. The corridor with the toilets does smell, but otherwise they were quite clean. Overall good value for money!

While the hostel’s facilities are good and the location is excellent, our experience was unfortunately ruined by the receptionist who was working on Tuesday 7th afternoon. When we arrived, we were informed that not only would we not be staying in the same room, but that we would both have to check out and check back in again in the middle of our stay. This meant packing all our things, leaving the room, and being "roomless" for around four hours — even though we were paying for three consecutive nights. Needless to say, this was very inconvenient since we had an early morning (7am) tour the next day. We found the situation quite unusual, so we asked if there might have been an error in the reservation system. The receptionist responded that this was “very common in hostels.” What followed escalated quickly and became a very unpleasant exchange. He called us inflexible, questioned whether we had ever stayed in a hostel before (I’ve been staying in hostels since I was 18 and I’m 36 now), and even asked personal questions like “what do you do for work?”, also he stated that "they assume we would use those 4 hours to explore the city, not sleep." He tried to have us go round the desk and "organize" the rooms ourselves. His tone throughout was arrogant and condescending, even after we had already accepted the situation, and said SEVERAL TIMES: "It's OK, just give us the rooms, because we need to leave in a few minutes" — it genuinely felt like he wanted to pick a fight. It wasn’t until we told him he was being rude that he finally stopped arguing. Because of this incident, we had to rush to accommodate in the rooms and ended up missing the first part of a tour we had already booked for the day. We were really excited about visiting Edinburgh, but this experience completely spoiled the beginning of our stay.

The location was hands down 10/10. Right in the Grassmarket area, views of the castle, dozens of bars and restaurants within 2min of the front door, and walking distance to everywhere! Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were very hot in the dead of summer, and showers were cold, with a few out of service. The heat of the rooms made it a bit hard to sleep, but I would still stay the experience was positive!

If you are travelling on a budget and want a reasonable hostel to live in - Kick Ass Grassmarket should be your choice. This was my first time staying at a hostel and the stay was fairly decent. The management and staff were really kind and proactive. Internet (free WiFi) was really slow, though. Maybe that's something the management can work towards.

I'm writing this review as a happy returning customer. ☺️ I've visited Edinburgh twice now and stayed at Kick Ass Grassmarket on both times. The first time I had a capsule bed in a mixed dorm room and on the second time we booked a twin room. I really liked the idea of a capsule bed for its privacy yet decent price and I feel like it matched my needs; provided a comfortable personal space with electric outlets and a safe locker for all my stuff. The only issues with the capsule bed were a) climbing into it and b) lack of ventilation. The latter seemed to be manageable when sleeping towards the doorway of the bed when the window of the room is open (as well as the curtain on the doorway of the bed). However, my visit was during September so it might be harder to manage in summertime. With the double room I shared with a friend I had no issues with. The bed and duvet were SO comfortable we marveled them multiple times. On all my visits I've had a bathroom/shower next door to my room. There are also so many of them (a big bathroom with multiple private showers and in addition a whole bunch of one person mini bathroom/toilets) that I never had to wait for my turn. The showers are very simple and small, I suggest bringing the toiletry with you. There's also a bunch of stuff you can rent from the front desk if needed (towel, eg.) The hostel also has a laundry room (with an iron and a dryer as well), a well equipped kitchen and a few comfortable lounge spaces. The receptions drinks are quite cheap and I've yet to have an issue they can't help me with. The cleanlines off the hostel surprised me the first time I visited – it was the first time I stayed at a hostel overall! I'd say managing expectations is key here. There are so many people using many of the facilities at the same time that I don't find immaculate cleanliness realistic. There might be a fingerprint in the shower, a hair somewhere, or a clogged toilet here and there but everything gets fixed quick. Overall everything seemed very clean to me and I was happy to see the cleaners doing their rounds all the time multiple times a day (it seemed). Obviously the location is spectacular. The lounge room and some rooms have a beautiful view of the Edinburgh Castle. It's literally the first thing you see when you step outside the door. The grassmarket area has a lot of great cafes, bookstores and a few small markets for groceries, snacks and other small needs. A lot of the Pinterest-worthy locations (Victoria Street, Vennel Viewpoint, Greyfriars etc) are a only a few minute walk away. There's also a bus stop for all the major sightseeing buses across the street. A walk to the Royal Mile is around 5-10 minutes. Other things shortly: - Lockers before/after check out for a few bucks - Not noisy, at night the bathroom/room doors are an exception - A very minimal breakfast available for a few bucks - I recommend keeping the window open if possible - Be considerate of others when arriving at night (lights, noise) - The under pod locker fits a basic hand luggage - NO ELEVATOR! Prepare for 4 floors max. - Feels like home to me already <3

I thought this was the best of all the hostels in the old town. Walk outside and you are in the grassmarket square, directly underneath the imposing Edinburgh Castle. The shower and bathroom were good, with plenty of individual bathrooms. The bed was a type of pod with enough room to sleep, hang up my shirts and sweatshirt, blanket, pillow, and convenient shelf for my belongings and to write my postcards. USB and charging port. There is a regular light and also a cool color changing light for fun! There is a sliding gate or curtain that gives you privacy, however I woke up in a pool of sweat on a cool day, so I felt I needed to keep it open a smidge so I don't suffocate. There is a vent, but a small fan would have been "cool." Felt very safe, locker for belongings. The staff, AMAZING! while they joked that they were not well taken care of by management, they took great pride in their work, and made every effort to accommodate any and all requests as I saw it. Extremely helpful and friendly when I asked directions or had questions. Available at all hours. Thank you guys for a memorable time in Edinburgh!

Solid 4/5, very good for a short trip. I was staying 3 nights and met some very nice and friendly people during my stay. The stuff was also very helpful and positive. Thanks a lot to Darren for helping me with my bag when I was moving to another room! (It was how I booked it, so no mistake on hostel's side 😊) I was not facing any problems or issues with people or stuff. Everybody was respectful. I wish I could have a bit more time so I could actually participate in some hostel activities like board games or quizzes. Maybe I'll come back to this specific hostel again some day as I still haven't done all of my Scotland's planned activities

Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the city, just steps away from the Grassmarket, Edinburgh Castle, and many charming cafes, shops, and historic sites. It made exploring the city on foot incredibly easy and enjoyable. The service was impeccable. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and well-furnished with modern amenities. Overall, a comfortable and welcoming stay in a prime location with outstanding service. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel. The location couldn’t be better, right in the heart of the city, just steps away from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, yet still peaceful enough for a great night’s sleep. The staff were outstanding, warm, friendly, and always happy to help with recommendations or bookings. My room was spotless, modern, and incredibly comfortable, with thoughtful touches that made it feel special. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, and the shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with plenty of variety to suit every taste. I truly felt looked after from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. I will definitely be returning and recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Nice hotel down the back side of the Edinburgh Castle in Haymarket. Accommodations, common areas & breakfast were nice. Very good breakfast. Coffee is powdered only, although you can ring down for real milk which was delivered promptly. Filtered water station on each floor with carafes - instead of bottles 🙌 No air conditioning in the rooms. The windows were open & a rotating fan was on the desk. Lower rating because we had arrived on an international flight very exhausted. Our room wasn’t ready so the attendant took our number to call when one was ready. We left for over 3 hours. Finally, we return to the hotel lobby to wait for the call or 2pm…. After waiting about 20 minutes, then seeing several people given rooms, we went to ask & our rooms were ready. Turns out they “tried to call but it wouldn’t go through a while ago” - not ideal check in for overseas travelers in a tourist area.

The most important thing to know about this hotel is that its location is GOLD. Literally across the street from Victoria Street and a street filled with a dozen popular pubs, you could not pick a better location. It was wonderful to be able to easily walk back to our hotel for a quick nap or a clothing refresh. The staff was kind and efficient, the room basic but clean and functional, the beds comfy and the linens soft. The only complaint we had about it was that there is no option to watch Netflix or any other streaming service. We stayed at a few other remote hotels during our stay, and so it’s strange that this major hotel wouldn’t have at least one option for streaming or an HBO channel option. However, the rest of our experience was wonderful and the location simply grand.

This is a great hotel, close to all the touristy parts of Edinburgh. The rooms are lovely, modern, clean and big making a stay easy. I also really appreciated that they offer to bring you fresh milk for free to your room for your tea/coffee plus there is a water filter tap in the hallway.

We had a lovely stay at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel. The location couldn’t be better – right in the Grassmarket, with the Castle practically looking down on you. It makes exploring the city so easy, with the Royal Mile, Greyfriars and all the main sights just a short walk away. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable, with everything you need for a good stay. Staff were friendly and welcoming, always happy to help with directions or recommendations. Breakfast was spot on too, with plenty of choice to set you up for a day of sightseeing. What I really liked was how relaxed it felt – it’s central, but once you’re inside it’s quiet and peaceful, so you get the best of both worlds. All in all, a great base for exploring Edinburgh. We’d definitely stay again.

Fantastic stay from start to finish! The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. My room was spotless, beautifully decorated, with a comfortable bed and stunning view. I will definitely be coming back and recommending this hotel to friends and family.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The hotel is beautifully situated near the iconic Edinburgh Castle, providing not only stunning views but also convenient access to many of the city's top attractions. The location is perfect for both tourists and business travelers alike. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the friendly and professional staff, who made the check-in process smooth and efficient. The suite room we stayed in was lovely, spacious, and impeccably clean. It was equipped with all the amenities one could need, including a comfortable bed, a well-appointed bathroom, and a cosy seating area. The room was bright and included some inviting views of the castle on the hill. One of the standout features of our stay was the excellent service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that all our needs were met. In particular, the breakfast service was outstanding. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious and varied breakfast buffet that included a wide range of options, from fresh fruits and pastries to hot dishes and made-to-order items. The quality and presentation of the food were impressive, and it was a delightful way to start each day. Overall, I highly recommend the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel for anyone visiting Edinburgh. The combination of its prime location, comfortable and stylish accommodations, and outstanding service makes it a top choice. Whether you're in town for business or leisure, this hotel is sure to exceed your expectations.

The Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel is a stylish and modern 4-star accommodation in the heart of Edinburgh. The rooms are well-equipped with modern amenities such as Apple TVs, USB charging, and high-speed Wifi. Guests appreciate the spacious and soundproofed rooms, as well as the friendly staff. The hotel's central location provides easy access to key attractions like the EICC, Haymarket train station, and Princes Street. Visitors can unwind at the refined bar and restaurant on-site.
A very enjoyable hotel My partner and I stayed here in November for a few nights on a get away to the Edinburgh Christmas Market. The hotel was great, the room was very comfortable and clean; the layout reminded me of the rooms in a Marriott Courtyard hotel. The bed was comfortable and the air con/heating was good. The shower was also pleasant and clean. The reception staff were friendly and helpful with directions on how to get places too. I cannot comment on breakfast as we didn’t have it, but we did order a pizza and dessert from room service. It took a short while to come and was a bit pricey but it was delicious when it did come (even if it was clearly a Chicago Town frozen pizza 😉) - the desserts were lovely though too! Location is good, it’s walking distance to high street, castle and old town. It felt safe and there was a small Tesco just over the road for bits and bobs you may need. My only negative was that when I booked it through easyJet holidays, the agency easyJet used had booked a twin room with two separate beds instead of a double, which I didn’t realise until we arrived - this isn’t the issue of the hotel though, and was merely a small inconvenience, we just pushed the beds together so no big deal. I definitely recommend this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to return - in fact I am considering to return here for our next trip to Edinburgh - I will make sure to try the breakfast next time too!

Highly recommend!! The entire staff was professional, courteous and friendly. The rooms were very clean. Breakfast was diverse, plentiful, and delicious. They patiently and happily helped us with inquiries and local travel arrangements. Will definitely stay here when next in Edinburgh.

Pros: Beautiful and comfortable premium rooms. Very good and well-stocked breakfast. Cons: Heating doesn't work, or rather, it's managed by the hotel and not by you in your rooms. If you complain, they'll give you this option. It seems absurd, but that's what happened to me. Cold hotel lobby. Reception staff slow and slightly confused. All in all, I recommend this hotel; the only thing is, be careful with the heating.
Fiorenzo C — Google review
The only good thing is about this hotel is the location. For the price you pay, I honestly expected a lot better. One of the elevators was broken for 6 days out of the 10 days. The heating and AC broke everyday. The stairwells were extremely dirty. The restaurant service, timings, and offering wasn’t good. No amenity offerings within the rooms, although we didn’t need it, I expect hotels within this group to offer. Lastly, the rooms are far too small. We definitely won’t return and urge people to look for something elsewhere within the location.

A very last minute booking after a disastrous night in a horror Air B n B elsewhere. We were so relieved to be able to get 2 rooms here and the reception staff were accommodating, welcoming and very helpful. The room was just luxurious and I collapsed and had the deepest sleep ever. I only wish we had stayed here for the full duration of our stay. The hotel is a little out of the old town for me with limited mobility to walk but buses and taxis were easily accessible. Would 100% recommend this hotel.

Hotel was over subscribed so we had to wait to be placed in a room when we arrived. We booked a double and was then given a twin which was disappointing but the room was lovely and clean. We were offered a free breakfast for the inconvenience of the room so can't complain too hard.

Wonderful hotel top to bottom! Great location in the middle of Edinburgh. Very courteous front desk and bar staff. Room was very nice and well appointed. Awesome dining room with great offering of food and wine. The breakfast was fantastic. Loved the courtyard patio. Great job Hotel du Vin!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location in the city, but not too busy of a spot, so no loud noises waking you up. Rooms are very comfortable, bed was soft and cushioned but supportive, very comfortable. We had room service the first night since we got in kind of late. Food was pretty good. Would stay here again and highly recommend the hotel.

Loved this old & elegant hotel. Location perfect. Upgraded to a beautiful & spotless suite for a small fee. Staff wonderful. Bar nice. Did not use restaurant. Caution for those with mobility issues - there was a lift to the 4th floor but still stairs. Staff happy to take luggage up. Would stay here again!

My husband and I loved our stay at this hotel. It's an old historic building which looks rather understated from the outside, but when we entered into the courtyard it all opened up. We were warmly welcomed at reception, shown around and taken up to our room. The room was lovely, very comfortable and had everything we could want, including usb sockets, large bed and large bathroom. I had forgotten to mention my allergy to feathers, but I spoke to reception and they very quickly organised Housekeeping to change the pillows and quilt. We really enjoyed the quality and freshness of the food here, We had the best ever freshly made scones in the afternoon, then a delicious evening meal in the Bistro - with some really nice wine of course. Breakfast was so tasty - from the freshly squeezed orange juice to the freshly prepared and bacon and eggs. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, above and beyond. Special shout out to Khyatt, Ben and Jennifer.

It's a nice hotel in a good location. However, it's very expensive for what it is. The rooms are perfectly acceptable but not a wow factor. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. Had the full English breakfast with poached eggs. The two poached eggs were not runny and the sausage was a very small skinny thing with little or no flavour. When paying this sort of money I would expect perfect poached eggs and a really good quality fat sausage. I didn't bother with my breakfast on the second day and elected to have breakfast at BA Lounge at the airport. The breakfast there was much better. On a positive. All the staff were great and very helpful.

Excellent hotel in a great location. Easy walk to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and Princes Street. We arrived at the hotel very early, and they took care of our luggage and us, and got us a lovely cup of tea. Just the ticket after a long haul flight. The staff were so friendly, courteous, and efficient. The room was lovely, with excellent amenities, including an iron and ironing board. Also a nice kettle, Scottish breakfast tea, and lovely Scottish biscuits. As an excellent bonus, the restaurant is simply outstanding. Delicious food, excellent wine, and impeccable service. All at quite reasonable prices, considering what you get. Finally, a really classy bar with, of course, an amazing selection of single malt whisky, and some nice fairly private seating areas. Highly recommended.

I spent the week of my birthday in the Junior Suite. On arrival, there were beautiful complimentary desserts laid out along with a thoughtful card wishing me Happy birthday from the hotel team. That made my day! You don't have to be a drinker to stay here. The team are just as accommodating to those who don't with a range of fine coffee's available. I was so impressed with the Hotel du Vin, it's impressive management & professional team, that I made reservations for the Junior Suite again in February on the way home on the 'plane! Hotel du Vin is a prime example of how a hotel SHOULD be run. Very well done to the team. I would highly recommend at least one stay here to anyone of any age group.

Went for a bottle of wine after a Fringe show nearby. One of the worst experiences of service. Choose a bottle of wine for £40, had to approach the bar to order. Then got charged £45. Checked the menu again to make sure it wasn't a mistake (no, there's no mention of discretionary service charge on it either), so asked Matthew the barman about why the extra charge. Without an apology nor being embarrassed explained that every bill gets service charge. Not opened, no taste offered, no cooler/ice bucket provided and he thought it was fine. Then it just turned more ridiculous when asked for refund and told I will need to go get the receptionist to sort it out. Where is the servicing guys? If I could I gave 0 star. Thanks Matthew, hope you can rip off others who are embarrassed enough not to question a supposedly discretionary service charge. Won't be back

Brooks Hotel Edinburgh is a charming family-run boutique hotel located in the west end of the City Centre. The listed building features vintage touches and offers a variety of room types, including family rooms. The bedrooms are equipped with new beds, design furniture, and modern amenities such as pod dock stations and power showers. Guests can relax in the warm lounge with leather sofas, an honesty bar featuring Edinburgh Gin, and a cozy fireplace. The hotel's courtyard garden provides a peaceful retreat.
We had a lovely time in Edinburgh and the Brooks Hotel was great! The staff were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast options were plentiful and the food was good. The room (twin) was larger than expected and was very comfortable for me and my sister. The bathroom was spotless, a tad small (probably not for the UK though) and there was plenty of drawer and closet space for our luggage. The location was good and many interest points were accessible by walking. Over all, we really enjoyed our stay here.

Just terrible. We didn’t feel comfortable at all! Besides the friendliness of the two men at the reception, there’s no positive feedback we can give. The room was far too small for two people. Mould is to be found in the sleeping area as well as in the bathroom. The beds are highly uncomfortable and don’t seem to have a mattress. In the bathroom, there was broken glass in the floor and leftover from the previous guests in the shower. The rooms was extremely dusty and had a weird smell to it. We really regretted our decision to book the two breakfasts for 15£ per person. The whole dining area is organised in a chaotic way and the staff don’t seem to know what they are doing. The choice of food was limited and the quality of the meals below average. What is more, get ready to wait for your meal and don’t expect to get the right one. A small buffet would reduce the stress on the staff and make the whole breakfast more enjoyable for everyone. I’ve been in Edinburgh several times so far and this has been the biggest disappointment within all of my trips.

A MASTERCLASS OF DECEPTION AND INCOMPETENCE I stayed with two friends and booked a 3-person family room via Booking.com. Upon arrival, we were informed that the room we reserved was unavailable. The front desk insisted we had booked a double room for two people through Expedia, which was incorrect. We were told to wait an hour to speak with the manager, who was based in Bulgaria. When we finally spoke with him, he was unhelpful and unsympathetic, maintaining that their records were accurate, despite our confirmation showing otherwise. We requested a partial refund due to being placed in a smaller room, but were told the price we paid matched the downgraded room—suggesting the original listing was falsely advertised. When we asked for a cot for the third guest, staff repeatedly interrupted us in our room demanding proof of our booking. Even after showing documentation, they refused the request, citing their internal system. I later discovered that all of their listings on Booking.com advertise a free cot upon request. The entire experience was marked by poor communication, lack of accountability, and a disregard for basic hospitality. Given the price we paid, we expected a far more professional and competent service.

Don’t believe everything you read on the Brooks Hotel, Edinburgh, website. Stayed three nights in a standard room, which was very small, had badly stained carpet, just one bedside cupboard and one bedside light. Views of city? Yes if you can see through blocks of flats… asked every day for the bathroom sink to be unblocked and the bathroom fan repaired. Nothing happened. Bathroom very small, but shower was fine. Staff were polite and very good in dining area - it’s not a restaurant as such - but some reception staff have a very limited understanding of English. We asked for a bath mat as the tiles were slippery when wet, and were eventually given a small hand towel. Website says cotton Egyptian sheets and fluffy duvets - nothing like it! Duvet very thin and pillows hard. Our bedroom was badly in need of renovation. Internet very iffy and slow in the bedroom. Fortunately we did not spend a lot of time actually in the hotel. Don’t like writing a review like this but the hotel was the one big disappointment about our stay in Edinburgh, and it wasn’t as if it was a late booking. We booked early - based on the hotel website words and pictures - to see the Military Tattoo at the Castle,, which was excellent !

This hotel was adequate, at best. The bed was uncomfortable, I think the mattress was old. There was no side table on one side, so we used the only chair in the room for one of us. The pillows were awful. We could hear the toilets flushing from the upper floors. Breakfast was pretty good, though. And we found the lounge a comfortable place to sit. The staff were ok - not rude, but also not really paying attention.
Eleanor B — Google review
Do you want a hotel/room that has the below. - Bed bugs - Dirty in general - An office chair as a bedside table - A shower that had the door hanging on by the top rail only. - The worlds smallest TV - A 4am wake up call from the screaming Asian family next door. - To hear the washing machine cycle at am. - A very average mattress that is ok if you don't move. - Coffee that looks like mud. - Sticky dirty dining tables. - Un edible breakfast food. - No business receipt for drinks from the honesty bar. If you said yes to the above then this your hotel. If not then avoid like the plague. Pay more, stay somewhere better.

If i could give this place no stars we would. We booked in to attend a wedding. The room was tired not very well cleaned, no wardrobe or reasonable drawer space the bathroom was tired with kickboards hanging off, the toilet hard to flush and the worst the shower was a trickle. So we reported it early in the morning, don't worry if we can't fix it we will move you. We returned to find the shower not fixed and not a chance of being moved. No one would take responsibility it kept being passed back to the owner. The lack of customer service is shocking despite being advised repeatedly we were going to a wedding no one cared. As for breakfast the guy didn't have a clue what he was doing and to be truthful the food wasn't great either. Very disappointed and would NOT recommend.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! I had the most terrifying experience here. There was no power or heat in my room, and a man tried to get into my room at 6 o’clock in the morning. There was no latch or safety securities in the room so I put a chair in front of the door, and thankfully so. I immediately requested a refund for the night I didn’t stay, the hotel refused it. Such a scary experience!!!
