Princes St is a renowned shopping destination in Edinburgh, Scotland, featuring a variety of fashion brands, technology shops, hotels, and historic landmarks. The street is home to an array of dining options such as Amber Restaurant, Harvey Nichols Forth Floor Restaurant, and The Salisbury Arms. Visitors can also explore the Cathedral Church of St. Mary the Virgin designed by George Gilbert Scott on the western side of the city center.
The main road of Edinburgh. Impressive gardens, views, shops and hotels. At least the 80% of the buses stops there and the main train station.
Daniel H — Google review
Great place, lots of shops. Just lack of public outdoor bins - had to take my rubbish on the bus as I wouldn't have been able to get to a bin and back on time
Carrie — Google review
Great for views of castle and other buildings, a bit of a tatty street, full of shops, but a bit rough, go one street up f9r a quieter experience, different views, less hectic.
Philippa S — Google review
A day trip! Amazing city with plenty to do. Nice people, nice coffee and food.
Mirela D — Google review
You have a decent range of shops, cafes, park, museums & good views of the castle all accessible from this one street. Great vibe.

So many lovely shops and restaurants. How a busy street.

It’s a beautiful square, a touch of green between the buildings. There’s plenty of space to sit, catching some sun. There’s algo a statue of Paddington.

This is the centre of Edinburgh In every direction ,you will find history and adventure This is what most people would call a super high street. There is everything a modern day holiday maker would want to explore. From all sorts of clothing shops to hobby shopping. Of course there is top notch jewellery supplies. There is loads of street performers and shows in the summer mainly, but all year round. Most are Scotland proud and orientated. There is City hustle that is always present... This is a busy street There are restaurants in all directions. Everyone can find the right food for their pallet There is a park that runs along side the street. In the park is art work free to look at. All forms of transport come through here. All year round bands , singers and performers join together to play here Every year during the summer this is the centre of the biggest art festival in the world ' the Fringe. Wich begins in August. Edinburgh is also known to be the prettiest city to live in . Gorgeous views in any direction. There are statues and picturesque beauties all around. Photos become postcards to a place of unparalleled history. Every year Christmas and New Year are celebrated on this iconic street. Lighting and enchanting gardens are ready receive wondering souls .Holiday Spirits capture the imagination here, with hope and joy touching every heart

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Royal Mile is a bustling street that connects Edinburgh Castle with Holyrood Palace, offering a mix of charming eateries, shops, and historic landmarks. This iconic thoroughfare in the UNESCO-listed Old Town provides a sensory journey through Edinburgh's rich history and modern-day allure. Visitors can explore hidden alleyways, traditional pubs, and intriguing museums while enjoying street performances and storytelling sessions. The area appeals to history enthusiasts, shopaholics, food lovers, and families with children.
My Visit to the Royal Mile, Edinburgh – A Walk Through History Walking along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh was one of the most fascinating experiences of my trip. Stretching from the Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, this historic street perfectly captures the soul of the city — full of charm, culture, and centuries of history in every step. The cobblestone streets, old stone buildings, and lively street performers create a wonderful atmosphere. Every corner has something interesting — from souvenir shops, whisky tasting rooms, and cozy cafés to hidden closes and historic landmarks. I especially enjoyed browsing the small local stores selling Scottish tartans, shortbread, and handmade crafts. You can easily spend hours here exploring side alleys, visiting St. Giles’ Cathedral, and listening to bagpipers playing traditional tunes. The views of the city from the upper end near the castle are breathtaking, especially around sunset. Visitor Tips: • 🕰️ Visit early morning to enjoy quiet streets or late afternoon for a lively, festive vibe. • 📸 Don’t miss photo stops near St. Giles’ Cathedral, John Knox House, and the Castle Esplanade. • 🛍️ Try local shops for authentic souvenirs instead of the tourist stalls. • ☕ Enjoy a coffee or whisky at one of the historic pubs or cafés along the way. • 👣 Wear comfortable shoes — it’s a long, sloping walk with uneven cobblestones. The Royal Mile isn’t just a street; it’s an open-air museum where every building and stone tells a story. It’s the heartbeat of Edinburgh and a must-visit for anyone who wants to feel the true spirit of Scotland.

Absolutely loved Edinburgh! So much to see & do within a short distance. Stayed very centrally with fab views - sea to the left & castle to the right. Bus tours are great way of seeing the city & staff very friendly. Definitely visit again as many things go didn't get a chance to do.
Fiona B — Google review
Walking along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip, because it felt like the very heart and soul of the city. Stretching from Edinburgh Castle at the top to the Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom, this historic street is packed with history, character, and energy at every step. The cobblestone streets, the narrow closes, and the centuries-old architecture give you the feeling that you are walking through living history, yet at the same time the street feels vibrant and modern with shops, restaurants, and street performers bringing it to life
Nick H — Google review
Everything in the city is walking distance. Absolutely worth a visit plenty to see. The surgeons and national museum are so large 2 and 3 hours respectively. The castle is beautiful and the weather was decent for November

Edinburgh is such a lovely place. I’m back here for the second time, and it truly feels like my peaceful city — my lovely city. I don’t even have the words to describe how much I love it. It feels like home, like family. Every time I’m here, I feel comfortable and warm. The people are all so friendly. Oh my God, what a beautiful city! ❤️
Akriche A — Google review
Wonderful experience to see the town. A long walkway with lots of sights. Souvenirs shops everywhere for you to pick up some cashmere, or woolly scarf. Lots of restaurants along the route which can get busy at times so might need to pre-book for dinner. Entertainers scattered along the path playing bagpipes or dressed up for photos. Great experience and you should definitely see it at least once.
Casting S — Google review
Walking along the Royal Mile was an amazing experience that felt like stepping back in time. The cobbled streets, historic buildings, and lively atmosphere created a perfect blend of culture and charm. I enjoyed exploring the many shops, cafés, and traditional pubs that lined the street, each adding its own character. I also loved discovering landmarks along the way, from St. Giles’ Cathedral to the various closes and courtyards that revealed hidden gems of Edinburgh’s past. The Royal Mile was vibrant, full of life, and rich in history, making it one of the highlights of my visit.
Mohsin R — Google review
The Royal Mile is arguably the most talked-about destination in Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful stretch of street that connects to Edinburgh Castle. Depending on the season, the area can get quite crowded. From cobblestone streets to historic buildings, it feels like you’re walking back in time. There are also many street performers and souvenir shops that could easily fill a whole day. While it’s beautiful, it’s definitely not for those who hate crowds. Compared to some heavily touristy destinations, it’s still manageable. Overall, I highly recommend adding the Royal Mile to your bucket list. You should also visit some of the other places within the mile, such as Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, and Tron Kirk.

Grassmarket, a historic area in Edinburgh's Old Town, was once a bustling livestock market in the 15th century. Today, it is a vibrant hub filled with charming pubs, boutiques, and restaurants. The area offers stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and is home to the oldest pub in the city, the White Hart Inn. However, its history also includes darker events such as public executions from 1660 to 1784.

Great Food and a Wonderful Walk Grassmarket is a lively and charming area, full of character and history. We enjoyed a delicious meal at an American pizza restaurant, and then took a walk through the surrounding streets. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the views up to Edinburgh Castle were stunning. It’s a place where good food and great scenery come together — perfect for a relaxed afternoon in Edinburgh.

Ocean Terminal is a contemporary and airy waterfront mall located in the scenic area of Leith, Edinburgh. It offers a unique shopping experience with over 50 stores, bars, restaurants, and boutiques catering to various tastes and budgets. The mall also features modern dining options, a 12-screen cinema, and a soft play area for children. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Firth of Forth while exploring the retail complex designed by Sir Terence Conran.
Fabulous shopping centre with free parking and plenty of places to eat. The Leith Collective was my favourite shop but the highlight was the Wee Museum of Memories.
Susan S — Google review
Several years since last visit, looking a bit down at heel. Few views of Royal yacht. Could use an upgrade and facelift. A strangely unattractive place crammed with too many eateries. Goodness knows how they all make a profit. Good transport links to Princes st.by bus or the overly expensive Tram.🙄 The Vue cinema there may be an evening attraction
Dennis S — Google review
There is nothing really in it, a handful of shops. Used to have a roller disco and skate park inside it, which the kids loved, but they took that away. We only ever go there now for the cinema apart from that it's not good. Views are nice from the rear of the carpart, tho.
Stevie B — Google review
Very sad to see this place so quiet with many shops closed. I was looking forward to visiting here again after many years but unfortunately it has nothing going for it as a shopping centre. Still probably nice for the locals to have this in their area. Good points: the view.
Grace D — Google review
A bit disappointing to be honest, hardly any shops, a couple of places to eat, most places catering for children's activities and at least 3 museums. Bingo and a cinema there too, not sure if the cinema was open though. It really does need more shops to bring in the crowds. At least the parking was free to allow you to explore the surrounding area.
Berglas71 — Google review
This shopping and leisure centre is a hidden gem on the Leith waterfront. The architecture is modern and airy, and you get lovely water views that elevate the experience beyond your typical mall. The mix of retail, dining and entertainment is spot-on — we headed there for a film at the cinema, grabbed a coffee overlooking the harbour and even popped into a few stores. It's easy to get to by tram or bus, and parking was straightforward too. What I particularly appreciated was the relaxed atmosphere — it wasn’t packed, which made it feel comfortable and stress-free. Staff in various outlets we visited were friendly and helpful. The on-site 12-screen cinema stands out (they now offer premium recliner seats too). Overall a great destination for a day out — whether you’re shopping, eating, watching a movie or simply enjoying the views. I’ll definitely be back when i visit Edinburgh again.
Bob K — Google review
Great Views and Dining Options Ocean Terminal is a lovely place to enjoy a meal with a view. Sitting by the window and looking out over the North Sea is a wonderful experience. There are several dining options — we tried Nando’s and loved it (especially the unlimited ice cream! 😂). Zizzi is also a great choice if you want Italian food. It’s a relaxed spot for shopping, eating, and enjoying the waterfront atmosphere.
Mubin D — Google review
Very unique little mall with many local stores, totally worth exploring to find some handmade goodies. Definitely tour the Royal Yacht Brittania while you're there.

Phenomenal evening at Harvey Nichols , The poached salmon pasta and beef bourguignon were fantastic. Not to mention the stunning deserts. We got a lovely table with a view of st. Andrews square. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely day at Harvey Nichols. Arrived 11.40 left 4pm. Was welcomed to the store by Neil in Chanel who was extremely helpful. Recommended various departments that we should visit. Spent plenty time perusing all the departments then went for lunch. Lunch was lovely food very nice. Service fair to middling would have had deserts and coffee but were totally ignored after plates were cleared despite having ordered a bottle of Bollinger with our lunch. Staff on third floor Eilidh and Ekansha were so helpful and lovely. Nothing was a bother made us feel very welcome. Packed our purchases beautifully. Then visited jewellery counter before visiting Neil at the Chanel counter again before leaving. Definitely enjoyed our Harvey Nichols shopping day thanks to named Staff members

We arrived at the bar for cocktails at around 18:40 on Sunday 27th July following an excellent meal at Fazenda. We were greeted by the lovely maitre d’ who showed us to our table in an unusually quiet restaurant. When we enquired about sitting out on the balcony, we were told that this area was closed for the evening, even although there was around another hour left of service and instead were sat in the bar at the window which is equally as nice, but not on a hot sunny day. We were shortly served by the waitress who reminded us at around 18:45 that they closed at 8pm as she took our drinks order. Our drinks arrived at around 18:55 and by 19:15 we were approached to say that last orders are being taken. We made another order for cocktails and we seemed frowned upon for making this choice even although the bar is open until 8pm. No sooner had the drinks been placed another waiter came over around 19:25 and placed our bill down and fetched the card machine for payment, we both felt rushed and more so as the staff started assembling behind us in their outside clothes and sighing loudly! We were really disappointed by this, as we are regular visitors to the bar and have never received service like this previously. There are other more friendlier bars nearby that I’m sure will be welcoming of our custom.
Stuart B — Google review
A lovely welcome to Harvey Nichols! Satchan was such a gentleman — he held the door open for my daughter, granddaughter, and me with a big smile and a kind greeting. It was such a small gesture, but it made us feel so welcome and set the tone for a wonderful visit. Thank you, Satchan, for your kindness and great customer service!
Helen M — Google review
Personal shopper was a huge disappointment .Having booked a personal shopper day to update my wardrobe I had filled in all the details, size, age, colour preferences etc. I arrived and was taken to a small sitting area with dreadfully unflattering lighting. I was offered champagne , tea or coffee. The rail of clothes selected for me was mainly brown ( the one colour I had stated that I would not wear ) the personal shopper then handed me a pair of very nice trousers to try …….aghhh pity they were a size 12 and I’m an 8 ! The experience continued in the same vein, the lady had not read the resume I had submitted …..a disaster ! I did buy a few items ( these were selected by my daughter ) however nothing will ever persuade me to enter that store again. On saying that the lunch on the 4th floor was excellent . I left Harvey Nichols feeling deflated , what should have been an uplifting experience was just a disorganised mess. My biggest tip, get Personal Shoppers who are interested in the customer and change your lighting in the personal shopper area. This experience was in the Edinburgh store.
Sheila G — Google review
The perfume section at Harvey Nichols lacks many exclusive and niche collections found elsewhere, and the staff knowledge about fragrances — especially men’s and unisex options — is rather limited. They also didn’t seem familiar with refill programs that many perfume brands now provide, where customers can refill their bottles at a lower cost. I would recommend that Harvey Nichols work on offering customers in-store refill options and providing assistance with the refill process when needed. The clothing section is also not particularly unique ,it features many luxury brands, but nothing that really stands out compared to stores like Selfridges. Overall, I expected a more distinctive and engaging shopping experience from such a well-known name
Tona H — Google review
It was very busy. There are a lot of designer outfits, fragrance, scented candles, makeup and beauty products in there. The fourth floor has a restaurant and bar. It is an amazing place to be. Would visit again and again

St James Quarter, a modern shopping destination that opened in 2021, is a must-visit when in Edinburgh. This vibrant district boasts 80 different retailers, 30 restaurants, and the impressive Bonnie & Wild food hall. The Galleria, with its bright canopy roof, houses cutting-edge brands including some making their Scottish debut like Stradivarius and Pull&Bear. Situated at the east end of Princes Street, this four-story center spans 1.
It’s just a mall but it is in beautiful shape with all of the stores you expect plus many high end brands nearby. This is a five for some free views of the area. Also clean and large free public restrooms
Kevin C — Google review
One of the top few malls in Edinburgh that one should visit! Generous common corridor space, located very near to Calton hill. Most of the shops’ fit-out carries a certain flavor and character. It carries both mid to high end shops, felt it would be great if there can be some Chinese and Korean dining restaurants!

St James Quarter is a modern shopping and leisure complex located in the heart of Edinburgh. We really enjoyed Salerno Pizza. We were worn out after a long day of sightseeing. We slumped over in our seats and the staff took it from there. The staff were great to us and were very attentive. We both recommend the Lemon Sorbet as a refreshing, quick pick-me-up.
Dave B — Google review
We had a walk through here whilst in Edinburgh for a weekend. It's a great shopping centre and was surprisingly quiet (which was nice) for a Saturday afternoon in September. Really good mix of shops, we went in Lego, Pandora, Molten Brown and Samsung Experience. Also used the loos which were very clean and efficient with the soap / water / dryer all in one place over the sink. The whole centre had a lovely clean feel and great views over to Leith. We entered from the Waterloo Place end and then exited at the Multrees Walk end, where there are further shops of the designer variety. Really nice area in a city that feels quite grey and in need of a facelift in many areas.
Sara W — Google review
Reminds me of Westfield London. With brands like Stradivarius, Bershka, Breaverbrooks etc. makes it perfect place for shopping in Edinburgh. Parking price is bit on the higher side. But it's city center after all.

Small shopping centre near Edinburgh Airport, not too busy which is good if you want to avoid crowds, large M&S, Boots also Morrisons Supermarket, I agree needs a few more brands as a lot of shops have closed. Enjoyed my visit.
Ben A — Google review
Modern looking out of town shopping centre. It has a large M&S at one end and a large Morrisons at the other. In between the usual shopping centre outlets. Lots of parking and good public transport connections. Beware the early closing of you want to eat there in the evening. The outside restaurant is still open though.
David S — Google review
Nice small shopping centre to pop by before you jet off to the airport. There's a selection of grocery stores and some bookshops and other clothing and accessories stores. There is a food court upstairs with a variety of foods. Although the shopping centre is a bit dated it is kept very tidy.

Great centre, easy access off the M8. Plenty of parking and a great Nando's

Quite a big looking place, but not much in way of shops in this shopping centre, but everything nice and clean and well layed out. Plenty of parking with Morrisons on one end of the shopping centre and Marks and Spencer’s on the other end. The food court only had 2 places open sadly.

The centre is small compared to many shopping centres nowadays but, in general, has a good range of stores with just a few vacant units. It's parking is free and always spaces available. There is tram station where you can get into the city quickly at a good price. There is also a train station opposite which is just a short walk.

A friendly, modern place, a metropolis of one of the shopping centers in Edinburgh. I remember how the center and the first store were built before the metropolis of shops was created.💪🤔🥂
Piotr S — Google review
This is a friendly and modern shopping destination, a real hub within one of Edinburgh’s major shopping areas. The center has a welcoming atmosphere, and it’s easy to navigate, making it a great spot for both locals and visitors. Walking through it, you can see that a lot of thought has gone into the layout and design, balancing the bustling energy of a busy shopping hub with spaces that feel open and enjoyable. What makes this place even more interesting is the history behind it. I remember when the center first opened, starting with just a single store, and how over time it expanded into the thriving metropolis of shops it is today. Watching it grow has been fascinating, as each new store and section adds something different while still keeping the overall flow and character of the center intact. There’s a mix of big-name retailers and smaller, unique shops, giving visitors plenty of options whether you’re after fashion, home goods, or just a quick coffee. It’s the kind of place where you can spend hours exploring, people-watching, and discovering new spots to enjoy. Even if you’re not planning a major shopping trip, it’s worth visiting just to soak in the atmosphere and see how the center has evolved over the years. It’s a testament to Edinburgh’s ability to blend modern convenience with a sense of history and community. Overall, a must-see for anyone in the area, whether you’re looking to shop, explore, or just enjoy the vibe.
Jennifer T — Google review
Fort Kinnaird is convenient and has a variety of stores and eateries, making it useful for a quick shopping trip. The parking is ample, and it’s easy to get around. However, the centre feels a bit dated compared to newer shopping destinations, and some shops are limited in selection. It can get crowded at peak times, which makes browsing a bit stressful. Good for essentials or casual shopping, but not a must-visit for a full day out.
Oliver J — Google review
Not really my scene but it's well done. A big American style shopping mall. There are a lot of parking spaces, but despite this, it can be tricky to find a convenient space at busy times. A selection of restaurants and a cinema too.

It's an okay shopping centre with a range of essential shops. My main reason to give 3 stars is that it lacks restaurants. The building also looks very old on the outside. There are essential shops like a pharmacy, opticians etc with a massive Sainsbury's and Aldi. The big supermarkets are at the centre. Overall, it's a good place that has a lot of potential and if you need something, you'll most likely find it here.

Walker Slater Menswear is a classic and contemporary store located on picturesque Victoria Street in Edinburgh. The shop offers a range of smart tweed items, knitwear, formal shirts, belts, braces, hats, shoes, watch-chains and hip flasks. They cater to both bespoke tailoring and off-the-peg options for those looking for traditional or modern designs. Embracing Scotland's textile heritage, Walker Slater carries Borders, Shetland, and Harris tweeds in their collection.
Very nice shop, extremely kind and helpful staff with lots of great recommendations, it made the whole suit-buying experience very pleasant. We never felt rushed and tried a lot of options. Great quality suits with tailoring options to adjust.
C M — Google review
The service by the sales personnel ruined what could have been a phenomenal shopping experience. The quality of the clothing is great for the price point, but the staff was neither knowledgeable nor helpful in my case, with the exception of a lady (whose name escapes me) who came to help with the fit of a suit. I went into the store to purchase two suits and other items, but the whole time I was made to feel like a bother when I asked for a different size or for a different item. No explanation was offered of the different fits, requests to try other sizes were met with resistance and the whole process was slightly unpleasant. I did buy one suit, and I am looking forward to using it, but I gave up looking for a second one because shopping at a store like this should be a pleasure, not a chore.
Michele B — Google review
My husband is looking to buy a tweed suit. He had previously been in the Grass Market location to try on the tweed suit jacket he liked and had a friendly experience. Today we went into the shop so he could show me his preference. A very rude female shop assistant told him he couldn’t try on the jackets as he might damage them if he tried the wrong size. He knows his size and rather than help him, we felt quite insulted. We live in Edinburgh and this is an expensive shop and we were prepared to buy one however I’m afraid we will be taking our business elsewhere now.
Elizabeth B — Google review
The brand is excellent, customer service not so great unfortunately. I had been dreaming to come to this shop for years so when I finally was able to come to this beautiful store, I was so ready to spend money on my future new favourite pieces. My wife and I were barely greeted, but I didn’t really care at first as I was too excited to look at everything. The sales associates were standing there just staring at us up and down. I asked if I could try a jacket on. One said yes so I did. The store was going to close in 30min so I said to my wife, who was right next to the sales person, “ I really want to buy a full outfit so maybe we should come back tomorrow because I don’t want to make them late.” My wife told me I had time to try a sweater and a pair of pants on. So I asked the items in my size. Again she was just staring at us without a smile. Not sure what was going on with her…maybe a bad day. The pants I tried were too big and I found the cut not good for my body type so I folded them and gave them back. She was still staring…. I was hesitant to buy a jacket because I wanted to try more but wasn’t sure I had time. I kept expressing how much I loved everything. I tried a hat on too. I had a jacket and a sweater on. Half an outfit already I was in love with. I ended up not waiting and bought a jacket, a sweater and a hat. I was ready to spend double the amount. That’s too bad the customer service wasn’t better because with that price point you’d expect someone who helps you with finding your size and propose different items. I went to pay, that’s when SUDDENLY the sales person became all smile and “nice”… seriously 😂 And she waited AFTER I was done paying to let me know their return policy. It’s only then that I think the store manager (a lovely energetic blonde lady with a big smile on) arrived and talked to us about what we bought that I thought “oh great someone with a genuine smile!” I’m still super happy I went and bought beautiful things but would recommend training for the 2 sales persons who were there just standing doing nothing and just staring at clients head to toes. I understand days can be long and difficult in retail, but staring at someone that way isn’t justified in my opinion. It’s not a nice feeling.

We came for the first time back in 2017. At this time, we were looking for our wedding suits. We found two beautiful tweed suits and all accessories. The staff was delightful, helpful and they did their best for us to look at our best on the big day. The tailoring service is high quality as well and very efficient. We came back again in 2018. We bought two beautiful winter coats 🧥 that I love. Again fantastic service and a great moment with the staff. Our last visit yesterday was no disappointment. I can’t recommend enough this shop. If you are looking for quality mens clothes it’s no better place ... and with exquisite service.

Hawico Scotland, formerly known as The Hawick Cashmere Company, is a renowned destination for high-quality Scottish cashmere knits. Established in 1874, this traditional shop offers a wide range of classic cashmere staples such as cozy sweaters and men's wool jackets. With 49 shades to choose from, customers can also opt for the 'Create Your Own' special order service if they don't find their desired combination of color, size, and style in-store.
The BEST place in Edinburgh for true Scottish cashmere. The staff were so helpful, which was great because there were so many styles and colors to choose from. A bit more expensive, but the staff informed me that all of the sweaters are actually made in their factory in Scotland. I ended up buying a cute Halimedia cape in the store and doing a special order to get the v neck sweater I wanted in this pretty Hazel color. Am definitely looking forward to wearing these when the weather gets cooler.

Beautiful clothes of exceptional quality but I was especially impressed with the lovely young lady who helped me. She was very knowledgeable and kind. We stopped in here in our search for the perfect cashmere scarves. We were greeted by Matthew, and given an incredible lesson in the history of Kashmir and war in Scotland. He was incredible and helping us make the right choice, and I would highly recommend anyone visit the store. They’re amazing scars in both knitted and woven Kashmir, and Kashmir plans were some of the nicest we saw anywhere in Scotland. If you are trying to hunt down high quality scars and want to stay away from overseas knock off, this is an Incredibles store and you’ll be treated amazingly!
Jerry M — Google review
If you're looking for fine cashmere, you've found it. They have both a men and woman's store next to each other. The materials are simply the best cashmere you can find. While there are many items in the store, the store is designed as a showroom where you can then custom order the various items. They have a sampler of colors to select and various sizes for you to try on. Once you find the right size, you choose the style you want and color. Their factory will then custom make the item for you and ship it to you. While you can purchase something from the store shelves, there was something so very fun and exciting about having something custom created for you. You'll find sweaters, jackets, scarves, gloves and more and each and every one is soft and luxurious.

Great little farmers market to enjoy before your tour of the castle or city. There is a bus stop nearby making it easy to gather your items and hitch a ride. Fruit is not so easy to come by in Edinburgh but there was plenty here! I went to the produce stand and got blueberries and raspberries which were so delicious. Definitely a different flavor profile than the ones you buy in an U.S supermarket. I also stopped by the dairy market and got some delicious milk. It is pastureized unfortunately but had an amazing flavor to it as well. Lastly I stopped by the soap market and got some nettle soap which is great for eczema and other skin conditions. There were other amazing stands like fish, coffee, and handmade hats/scarves however I did not purchase any. Take a stroll through as you'll never know what you will find.

With its renowned collection featuring ammonites, trilobites, and dinosaur fossils, it attracts not only seasoned geologists but also curious shoppers eager to explore the fascinating world of natural history.
Offers a great variety of minerals, fossils and meteorites. The prices are I would say reasonable: you can buy some small amonites starting from 7 GBP and up to big bones and fossils costing several thousands. Overall, you can get an awesome souvenir here. Did not have any trouble carrying it accross border. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 UPDATE: I have framed the fossils and hanged them on a wall in a dining room! 🥰👍🏻 Great vibe!

The shop is a true treasure trove, filled with fascinating finds—from delicate ammonites and sea urchins to intricate fish imprints, dinosaur teeth, fragments of eggshell, shimmering crystals, and even meteorites. Each display felt like stepping back through millions of years of history. The gentleman working there was not only professional and helpful but his genuine passion for paleontology was infectious, making the visit even more memorable. I left with a handful of beautiful treasures, all of which traveled easily with me, and I can say without hesitation that I’ll be returning on my next trip to Edinburgh.

An excellent shop for fossils, minerals, meteorites and jewelry. They have a huge and interesting collection to choose from. During my 4 day stay at Edinburgh, I was there 3 times to get amazing fossils and a meteorite. You always would want to go back to buy some more. The specimens are reasonably priced. A must visit when in Edinburgh. Mr. Matt carefully packs your selected specimens and also adds a label to each of them. Definitely recommend this shop if you are looking for a variety of fossils.

I was fond of the booth with the intricately decorated lamps and the booth with embroidery kits for beginners. Everyone was very welcoming and up for chatting!

Honestly just a little disappointing. It's small, not a wide enough selection of food of items to buy, though I must say that the few things you could choose from looked interesting enough. Ended up not buying anything though. There was a paella stall that looked interesting but they weren't finished cooking yet by the time I visited so I didn't get to try it.

Farmers market opens every Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. I went there for the food, but there were only few selections, its not that big like the ones in london. There are plenty of gluten free options. however, the food was not that tasty. I tried the paella 🥘 there was a long queue but unfortunately the taste disappointed me it is overrated. The churros were gluten free it was ok but the chocolate that came with it was not that good.

Visitors can find everything from homeware at Homebase to sportswear at the Nike outlet store which offers significant discounts.
A nice retail park in Edinburgh — with a wide range of stores, convenient parking, and a location residents appreciate. You can shop at popular chains, grab a bite to eat, and combine it with other errands in the area. For those who prefer parking convenience and a bit of calm compared to busy city centers, this is a great option.

Although I don't know why is there no planting outside Burger King. It is just weed proof membrane. It's not a good look. I wish that the car park had more greenery. Shops are great and you can get just about anything there

I took my disabled Mum shopping on 1st July. We had coffee in Marks & Spencer and then a wander round all the shops. We were there for 4 hours as she can’t walk fast. She has a disabled badge. Despite all this evidence being provided to Nexus the parking company I have still had to pay £21 fine. Reduced from £100. I am appalled that this is allowed. I certainly won’t be taking her there again!!

Found this retail park by accident en route to Western general. Was amazed how much was in there. From supermarkets to M&S, from boots chemist to coffee shops. They are all there. Plenty parking. Defo a little gem in that area.

Poor management. Turned up to get a coffee, place was shut at 10am with all staff inside. No sign on the door to say they were shut and when I knocked on the window to see if they were open I just got shoed away.

Craigleith Retail Park in Edinburgh is a great place to shop. The stores are well-organized and offer a wide selection of products at competitive prices. The parking is convenient and there is easy access to public transportation. Overall, Craigleith Retail Park is ok shopping destination in Edinburgh. It is a pity that it is not all under one roof, due to the weather.

Had a wonderful consultation with Lizzie on the Clinique counter in John Lewis Edinburgh. So knowledgable, friendly and talented! A much needed make over reminding me of importance of self care as a busy working mum. Can highly recommend. Looking forward to trying my new Clinique products!

NMAS — Google review
This is a great store. It has such a wide variety of products available. We did struggle a bit to find some assistance but this did not trouble us too much. Great selection in their kitchen department.
Dave P — Google review
When visiting John Lewis, I noticed that most of the brands available in-store already have their own shops in the same mall or within walking distance. As a customer, I’d really like to see more variety — especially good-quality brands that don’t have their own branches in Edinburgh. That would make the in-store experience more interesting and worthwhile, giving customers a chance to discover and try something new. John Lewis is generally one of the most diverse department stores, offering a wide range of products. However, they need to improve their in-store collection. Many items, especially perfumes, are often unavailable in-store and must be ordered online. The in-store selection feels quite limited, which makes it hard to try or compare products before purchasing. What’s also a bit puzzling is that they dedicate sections to brands that already have standalone stores just a short walk away — like Tommy Hilfiger or Barbour. It raises the question: why visit John Lewis for these brands when they’re easily accessible nearby? I’d recommend that John Lewis focus on bringing in high-quality, popular brands that don’t have nearby branches — for example, Cole Haan for shoes or Lacoste — to create a stronger competitive advantage. Overall, this feedback mainly reflects the in-store shopping experience

Not being very knowledgeable about technology, buying a television is quite difficult. The staff were wonderful, polite and knowledgeable. Above all else John Lewis is the first store that I have been in and has told me the truth about blue tooth headphones and their compatibility with televisions. Thank you John Lewis for your honest staff and because of this we bought the television. It's arriving next Wednesday.

I have been to the AV department several times recently and each time the staff seem more interested in speaking to each other than helping customers. When I have eventually managed to get someone they seem to know very little about the products beyond what is written on the labels. Thoroughly disappointed by this service.

Every Saturday, from 10 am to 5 pm, Leith Market transforms Dock Place into a vibrant hub of activity. This lively market is a treasure trove for food lovers and art enthusiasts alike, featuring an eclectic mix of stalls that offer everything from mouthwatering street food to unique crafts and artwork. With its inviting motto "eat, meet, greet or treat," there's truly something for everyone here.
Lovely little market with handcrafted items, soap, honey… and a few street food options with some tables. The area is quite lovely, away from the noisy touristic city center.

This is an open-air market located slightly outside the city center. They sell a wide variety of items such as croissants, homemade cakes and desserts, breads, handcrafted napkins, pillowcases, vintage records, cheeses, olives, various pickles, candles, fruits, and vegetables. There are also sections where meat and vegetable dishes are sold. We had our breakfast here by picking different types of croissants. I recommend visiting — it's a pleasant place with a local charm

This market is second to none. Great local produce and craft stalls. Also very friendly atmosphere and great food to be had. On every Saturday 💯
Paul D — Google review
Firstly it is offensive for this market to call itself a Leith Market. Leith was once a working class town . Now Leith is a suburb where gentrification has obscured the nudging out of locals. It is a market to celebrate so called gentrification . If you are looking for a market to get something Leith or Scottish I would avoid it. When I went down most of the products were from Europe there was a stall selling Italian food . The woman who was serving could not understand a basic Scottish accent. Most of the stall holders I encountered were either English or from the EU. Most of the produce was just cakes and treat items . The one veg store was over priced and a lot of the veg had been grown outside the Leith area . So if you want to do a luxury shop it might be the place for you. The fish was not caught in Leith and I get better value down my local fish monger. Despite the high prices one women was using offensive language . You will find many of the stalls you will find all over the UK . At such types of modern markets . Not like the markets used to be a place to get the weekly shop done not unless you have a high level of disposable income . Which I imagine many leithers don't .

Book store
Armchair Books is a charming, family-run bookstore located just off the Grassmarket. The cozy shop offers a vast selection of rare and secondhand titles, creating a quirky and intimate atmosphere. With towering bookshelves filled with literary gems, it's a haven for book lovers seeking unique finds. Tucked away in the bustling High Street of Bruntsfield, Edinburgh Bookshop caters to both adults and children.
This is one of my top 3 secondhand bookshops in the UK. Not only do they have amazingly well organized collections in many genres (I have bought sci-fi, philosophy, history and fantasy), but the books are truly affordable (I have never paid more than £5, and I have found many books for £2 or £3). Second hand bookshops in the UK are not always cheap as they focus on antique books, but not here. They even give you an additional discount as a student. The attendants are helpful and friendly. I live in Glasgow and go to Edinburgh just to go here, as it is a treasure trove for a book lover.

Armchair Books is an absolute treasure! This is not just a bookstore; it's an experience. The shop is a glorious labyrinth of books, stacked from floor to ceiling and overflowing into every nook and cranny. The wonderful, dusty scent of old paper and the cozy, cluttered atmosphere create a perfect haven for any bibliophile. You could easily lose hours in here, just wandering and discovering new titles or long-forgotten classics. The selection is incredibly diverse, and the charm of the place is only enhanced by the lovely, knowledgeable staff. Armchair Books embodies everything a great second-hand bookshop should be. A truly magical and unmissable spot in Edinburgh.

Came here after hearing about it in Patrick Grant's book. There's a wide variety of vintage items, and a nice mix of larger sizes! It's also just a beautiful shop with lots of interesting decor, which we were informed is part of the owners personal collection! The employees were lovely and friendly, and answered any questions we had. We had a lovely time, I bought 2 jumpers and a Norwegian cardigan, and they're doing if the contest clothes I have worn, as well as being beautiful! Totaled to ~£100, but they are incredibly good quality, beautiful items that'll last a long time. Definitely recommend coming here, your wallet may hate you for it though 😆

More than a shop...it's an Edinburgh institution, a museum to ancient clothes and uniforms. I went in to get ski gear and emerged with a jacket from the 80s and some glam rock motorbike gloves. Perfect for the slopes. The shop was packed and the atmosphere is exciting and mysterious. I love it

Where do i start.....this shop is amazing. I'm from Essex and was spending a week in Scotland, I would do anything to have this shop where I live! I spent over £100 in this shop today, not because the prices are bad but because I couldn't stop buying stuff (including these really cool trousers). I don’t know to whom to address that, however I am addressing it to everyone who releases the reviews. I am absolute Disgusted of humans. The area around the warehouse store(Iceland) is absolutely bin bag situation. Leave that bins are non stop overflowing and in the morning looks like end of the world but today I’ve witnessed a horrible act- a woman peeled off a banana and threw the peel through the window of her car. I stopped and ask her if what I’ve seen was right she even was not asha Of herself. In the car a child and another passenger woman? What example you give dirty human? Are you doing that in your own house?! I am disgusted of the laziness of people who leave the trolleys all over the car park let’s not comment the area with them on what looks like. These people has to be penalised of littering not couple of pounds but thousands! The whole place looks like a dumpster and this is because of people laziness!!! Disgusting, everyone who litter be ashamed of your own actions!

Lots of good stores to choose from. There is plenty of parking, although it often feels like driving around the park is similar to fair ride dodgems. Near by you have IKEA and Costco. Within a stone's throw is an Asda Superstore and Aldi. Across the road there is a park and ride. Also, within the retail park there are places to buy food and toilets.

On Saturdays, visitors can enjoy the Grassmarket Weekly Market as an alternative to the early morning Edinburgh Farmers Market. The Saturday market at the Grassmarket is not the biggest one you‘ll find but it‘s a nice one nonetheless. It is only open on Saturdays so you should consider that in your plannings. There are quite a few food stands mixed with some „regular“ market stalls. It smelled amazing and everything we tried was really tasty. Between sweet and salty you can find all kinds of snacks/ finger foods from a few different cuisines.

Victoria Street Viewing Point is a charming and vibrant street located in Edinburgh's Old Town. This picturesque, winding street is lined with brightly colored buildings, quirky shops, and cafes that offer a unique and distinctive experience. It leads down to the lively Grassmarket area, known for its great pubs and restaurants. The street is said to have inspired J.K. Rowling for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, adding a magical allure to the place.
Beautiful colourful street. You can find it completely empty at very early in the morning. There are many cute shops including a Harry Potter shop that always has a queue. I suggest visiting it early since it gets extremely crowded as the day goes on.

I had a lovely time exploring Victoria Street in Edinburgh! The colorful buildings, unique little shops, and charming cafés made it feel like walking through a storybook. There’s so much character in every corner—from the cobbled streets to the local boutiques. It’s a perfect place to take photos, grab a coffee, and enjoy the historic charm of the city. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Edinburgh!

Really beautiful street. It's undoubtedly busy during the day but for good reason. A few solid pubs. Some really great and cute shops that have nicer and more local geared art and products versus the more touristy vibe of the Royal Mile where every shop sold the same things. We went in a bunch of places and had great service and conversation with the staff including the Red Door Gallery, Mellis Cheese, Cubitts, The Bow Bar and more. If you get here early, it's the best time for photos before the crowds roll in.
Josh B — Google review
The street was so cute. I loved the colorful buildings. It wasn't too crowded with people. Great place for Harry Potter fans being that it's the inspiration for Diagon Alley. The Harry Potter tour location is right there on Victoria Street too.

Victoria Street is one of those places that never gets old, no matter how many times you pass through. The colours, the curve of the cobbles, and the mix of old and new shops make it feel like pure Edinburgh magic. There are brilliant little independent stores, quirky spots for Harry Potter fans, and even a few small museums tucked away nearby. It can get a bit busy during the day, but that’s part of the charm — locals and tourists all enjoying the same beautiful street. Grab a coffee, wander down, and just take it all in.

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Old Town, Cadenhead's Whisky Shop stands as Scotland's oldest independent bottler, a true gem for whisky enthusiasts. This charming shop may appear unassuming from the outside, but it boasts an impressive selection of whiskies sourced directly from small distilleries. Visitors can indulge in tastings that showcase single malts straight from the cask and unique blends, including rums and cognacs.
We were looking for a whisky shop which is not in the centre of the tourist area and where we can buy something unique. I explained briefly what I was looking for and the very friendly guy from staff showed and introduced us three bottles, all of them with a very reasonable price. After having a taste we could choose a great bottle of single malt from the Highlands. A great shop with very friendly staff, we definietly gonna be back 🥃
Somogyi Á — Google review
Hands down one of the absolute most engaging and informative whisky tastings I’ve ever attended. The shop is modestly sized for what they do, and the caliber of quality and professionalism they bring to the table. These folks are bottlers. They are not distillers. Don’t confuse the two. The base of their operations is in Campbeltown. They own tons of barrels of whisky, primarily Scotch singles, but also grains, and other whiskies from around the world. This enables them to oversee the aging themselves. When they are ready to release a particular barrel, they bottle it. They have a phenomenal team of specialists watching over the barrels, because I swear many of their releases were better than what the distilleries are putting out there. What a treat.

Saw some negative reviews from Asians purporting racism. Headed to this shop twice, but never encountered anything of the like. Staff I've encountered were pleasant, enthusiastic, and super helpful. Was provided many generous samples to figure out which profiles I liked, and the staff were pretty knowledgeable on the distillery characteristics and cask details! Bought more bottles than I thought I would from the shop, with one snagged off the hidden shelf. Will definitely be back :)

This is the best whisky shop in Edinburgh. They have a wide range of small whisky bottles some of which you can write people’s names on, so the bottles make great souvenirs and presents. A perfect example of the importance of independent bricks and mortar retail. The whole shop is so lovingly and carefully curated, with a wonderful selection of international brands. The staff were very friendly and the shop smelled divine. A must visit if you’re in Edinburgh.

I’ve been shopping at Lifestory for years and it’s always a great experience. My latest order arrived really quickly, packaged beautifully, and as always there’s such a well-curated selection to choose from. It’s one of those places I know I can rely on, which is why I keep going back. Highly recommend.

Quite an expensive, but lovely shop. Everything handmade and charming. I would probably buy all the items or at least half of it, if it wouldn’t be so expensive. If you’re nearby and don’t know what to do with money, go and see! Beautiful cups and lovely smelling candles. I liked the take away cups too (see photo). All is suitable for a dishwasher!

A small, unique, and personal store in Edinburgh, filled with beautiful Scandi-style homeware and decorations. It’s one of my favourite places in town — always offering seasonal décor, lovely, unique, and useful gifts, and the friendliest, most approachable staff. The only “downside” is that it’s far too close to my house… making it dangerously tempting to shop there all the time! Amazing contribution to the Edinburgh retail scene for both locals and tourists.

I ordered online, the delivery was fast and incredibly well packed. My order was breakable and the post person dropped it right in front of me! It was so well packaged that nothing was broken. 100% shop here again!

Vintage clothing store
W. Armstrong & Son Vintage Clothing Emporium is a historic gem in Edinburgh, having been in operation since 1840. It's renowned as the largest vintage shop in the city, offering an extensive array of clothing and accessories from various eras. The store caters to diverse tastes, with items ranging from bathing costumes to wedding dresses for women and unique finds for men. Visitors praise its inclusive sizing, well-organized selection, and reasonable pricing.
Wonderful and colourful vintage shop. An amazing choice of irresistible item.
Folco G — Google review
I visited this shop (Cockburn Street) to look at a leather jacket and asked, politely, whether the price was negotiable. Instead of receiving a simple yes or no, I was questioned about why I was asking. Personally, I don’t think such a question needs explanation—price negotiation is common when buying second-hand items. The staff member I spoke with, a woman with a shaved head, didn’t seem open to the conversation. As a general piece of advice, the customer is the one with the money, and basic respect should be shown at all times in any business setting.

Great vintage shop with superb organization! The tops and skirts were organized by size. Prices are reasonable and the staff was pleasant and friendly.
Anyer T — Google review
This place is fantastic! Such an array of wonderful vintage garments. I was on the hunt for some tweed jackets for my husband and was so annoyed with all the copy-paste goods in the shops along the Royal Mile. Nothing had character or craftsmanship. I walked into Armstrong & sons and it was such a delightful reprieve. The shop is rather large for its location. Plenty of used/vintage garments at decent prices. We will be back!
Elizabeth S — Google review
When I was in the shop today I saw the owner screaming at a member of staff on the shop floor. It was quite distressing to witness and the guy (looked maybe in his 60s) was being really aggressive. It obviously frightened the shop assistant along with myself. Unfortunately it isn’t the first time I’ve seen an Armstrongs member of staff crying and it seems to me they don’t treat their staff well at all! I won’t be back and I hope everyone working there knows their worth and leaves as soon as they can. On top of that their clothes quality has been declining and everything is dirty and infested with moths. The gems are waaaay too few and far between now that I’d rather take my money to vinted or to any of the other amazing vintage shops in town. Would never recommend Armstrong’s to anyone ever again. For anyone that needs any other recommendations, take a wander up Bread Street, Candlemaker Row, or down Leith walk for some amazing treasures.

While we were on our way to look for Bobby’s statue, this colorful store caught our attention. There are plenty of vintage stuffs in there. from clothings, tv, phones to clocks & etc… some were recycled for different purposes which are amazing! Examples: old clothings being recycled as cover for fitting room & the old tv screen being recycled as sizes conversion chart! Be prepared that most of the items are not first hand or clean though but the vintage value is definitely there.

This vintage clothes shop is amazing! They have several locations with a great selection and very reasonable prices. As someone who loves vintage clothes, they have some very unique finds and an impressive range. We purchased a mens wool coat for under 60 pounds. I could spend hours in their shop in the Grassmarket!

Absolutely astonishing place. Even if you're not antique hounds (like we are), this is still worth seeking out, simply to experience walking through 50,000 square feet absolutely crammed to the gills with furniture, art, and other vintage. Rather like a museum where you can actually buy stuff. A must stop if you're in Leith.

Disgraceful company! If I could give zero stars I would. This business refused to pay their invoice as well as publicly slandering and telling lies. They take no responsibility for their actions for selling damaged goods to their customers. They are time wasters and very deceiving when it comes to taking accountability. Avoid at all costs.

Hat shop
This shop specializes in hats, and offers a variety of styles, colors and fabrics to choose from. They also have a wide range of sizes to fit most heads, so you're guaranteed to find the perfect hat for you. The hats are all made in-house, so you can be sure of their quality and authenticity. Come and try on some different hats today!
Love, love this place. Yes, I could have spent a little, not much, less by buying from all the souvenir shops but I like to support smaller businesses. If you want a genuine tweed or wool hat, get it here. If you want a glorious fascinator, get it here. Slightly off the Victoria Street near Grassmarket, next too Greyfriar Graveyard. The shop manager/owner knows his stuff too. He simply looked at my husband and was like your head size is this row and it sure was.

We came to Edinburgh last year. We visited Fabhatrix, as my hubby needed a hat for our son’s wedding. The guy helped us to choose the right one, nothing was too much for him. We bought the hat and we carried it all the way back home to the Isle of Wight x
Angie B — Google review
My family and I came across this shop seven years ago while on holiday. The selection was marvelous and the staff were friendly and helpful, and I came away with a nice wool cap that served me well in the cold Colorado winters. Unfortunately, it was stolen a couple of months ago, but the staff at Fabhatrix came to the rescue via email. They were able to find the model and size of hat I had purchased and offer a replacement. I bought it through their website and they shipped it to me here in the US. I am pleased to have a stylish, warm hat again, and to write to recommend Fabhatrix and it's staff.

What a great shop! Good hats and hat makers are hard to find these days but Fabhatrix is excellent. I usually struggle to find the right size but walked in and within 10 minutes had my perfect hat. Thank you Fabhatrix! Also a great selection of women’s hats too. Highly recommended.

Lots of fab hats which piqued my interest. Felt like the shop proprietor was not very helpful, really. After trying on several hats, none of which suited me, he said "well, I think we've exhausted all the possibilities...." Very disappointing
Alan S — Google review
Great shop , if you are after a nice hat. They've got plenty, virtually any questions surrounding hats can be answered ,but you need to ask Because the staff is well aware that being in your face is not a winning sales strategy. Once you ask for help, you will almost certainly leave the shop with unleast a hat, smile and knowledge that you can't get from the fashion magazines.

Kilt shop and hire
21st Century Kilts is a designer boutique in Scotland that offers a unique twist on traditional kilts. They provide both off-the-peg and bespoke kilts made from a variety of materials, including tartan, Harris Tweed, leather, denim, and other contemporary textiles. The boutique aims to lead 21st-century tourism by prioritizing communities, people, visitors, businesses, and the environment.
No.4. Ordered in March, meant for June, delivered in December. Finding decent camo for a kilt proved challenging. But. But... Good things come to those who wait; 21ck take their time and get it right. Howie and his team have been making (and altering - always out. never in....) my kilts for over 10 years. No.3 was made in grey denim. Still identifiable as a kilt, but relaxed enough to wear to the pub. It's always good to traditional, but if your going to 21ck, have fun. Go for something different. My camo kilt is a dream finally realised. These are hand made, bespoke pieces of clothing. So not "cheap", but then Howie isn't trying to be. You pay for what you get. Make an appointment and go and get one. You know you want to!
Geoff M — Google review
Just ordered my first bespoke kilt from here and I have to say that the professionalism, attention to detail and customer service by everyone is second to none. Every detail of the order was discussed and agreed with expert advice guiding my decisions. It was such a pleasure to discuss what I was looking for and I am delighted with my order and cannot wait to get my kilt. This is the epitome of customer service in my mind. If you are looking to get yourself a kilt, contemporary or otherwise, these are the people to see. Do not be fooled by cheap inferior imitations. Go see the experts. First class!
Graeme M — Google review
Are you looking for a custom-made kilt, a jacket and everything you need for a perfect ensemble? Look no further, Howie Nicholsby and his team will make one for you. Outstanding quality, attentive and passionate service, you will not be disappointed. To recommend without hesitation!
Henri B — Google review
This is my first kilt from Howie Nicholsby and 21st Century Kilts, and I can truly say this kilt is the epitome of quality and style. At the time of this review, I’ve worn this kilt almost every day for about a month, and I can’t get enough of it. The fit is perfect, the attention to detail is top notch, and the style is unique but absolute class. I opted for all the pockets, and I now can carry at least twice as much as I could in jeans, and definitely more than I can carry in a sporran. The wait time was slightly longer than anticipated, but you can’t rush perfection, and perfection it is. I’m already planning on ordering another kilt from 21st Century Kilts in the near future. 10/10 would wholeheartedly recommend.
Darrin S — Google review
If you're ever in Edinburgh and fancy kilting yourself out in serious style, get yourself to 21st Century Kilts. No word of a lie – it’s an absolute belter. This isn’t some dusty old hire shop with faded tartan and bad chat – it’s modern, bespoke Scottish swagger with a pulse (and a lot of personality). Howie was recommended to me by my tailor in Derby – who knows a thing or two about a good fit – and I’m chuffed he did. Straight away, Howie and I hit it off. He properly gets it. My kilt is basically my ceilidh uniform, and after 12 glorious years of flinging folk around in the current one, it was time for an upgrade. A bit of tartan sass 2.0. We had a good old blether about what I wanted and why – with a few cheeky TFCK twists thrown in for good measure. What I’ve ended up with will be a kilt that breathes, moves, and make me feel like an absolute legend every time I step on the dancefloor. Big love to the team – totally inclusive, totally sound, and absolutely no tartan snobbery in sight. Just good folk, great gear, and top-tier patter. 🧵✨ Slàinte Mhath, Schuggie PS after Howie's recommendation, I headed off to Joseph Cheaney & Sons to buy a pair off new boots. Actually ended up buying 2 pairs and got the shock of my life. The image of Joseph Cheaney on the back wall of the store is the doppelganger of my very good and cool AF Wedding celebrant Andrew D Scott of andrewdscottcelebrant. This was some days worth of shopping in Edinburgh.

MANY THANKS Howie for your friendly welcoming into your shop and qualified advice to select our kilts. We are looking forward to receiving them and can only recommend your shop to anyone looking for one that indeed, fits into the 21st century no matter where on this planet.
L. P — Google review
Although we had planned to stop by so I could be measured for kilt, when we stepped into the shop to set an appointment Howie immediately knew my size and had all the available tartans on the table, we did not have an appointment but we were made to feel that they were waiting on us and were able to assist. Everyone we came in contact with (Howie, John, Fonzie 🐶) were so incredibly friendly and accommodating and Howie walked us though all of the options and everything that I would need. Being of Scottish decent, we felt how proud our father would have been, plus my sister already having a kilt from this shop so it was a must and a bucket list item that I was happy to check off. Howie could have had a thousand tasks to complete but you would not have known and he was more than accommodating talking about the design and options. There was no hard push to buy, no pressure to spend money on needless items, the experience was everything I has hoped it to be, enjoyable everyone and fun experience that we still talk about. Looking forward to receiving the finished kilt, and looking forward to visiting again sometime. Thank you Howie and everyone at 21st Century Kilts (even Fonzie the shops pooch) for making this day so special.
Rob C — Google review
I’ve been meaning to write this review for ages after receiving my amazing kilt from Howie at the start of the year. Amazing quality of production and a truly unique kilt that I am absolutely delighted with. Having bought other kilts on the high street, there’s simply nothing comparable to the level of personalised experience that you get from Howie at 21st Century. The whole interaction of choosing the fabrics and custom designing your own kilt, all with the expertise and guidance from Howie, makes it something to cherish. I’ve promised I’ll be back again. It’s just a matter of time. :)

Opened by Laura Clifford and Ian Staples in 2010, the shop offers an array of design-led products including stationery, prints, quirky homeware, retro handbags, and even provides a framing service. The store's Scandinavian aesthetic and focus on local creatives and illustrators ensure that it constantly evolves with new products from various makers and brands.
If you are a tourist obsessed with your holiday magnet ritual and are looking for the one memento you always bring home from a trip this shop must not be missed, as there are lots of artworks and souvenirs that would always remind you about Edinburgh, such a stately city. Magnetic memories indeed. I've bought a framed print of Rob Hain, an artist based in Scotland, well known for his evocative and nostalgic painting of cities and landscapes. This was my first time ordering from Curiouser + Curiouser (I'd passed by the shop on a trip to Edinburgh, but never been in), and I couldn't recommend it more highly. I had purchased a few gifts for my mother's birthday, and not only were they all beautifully wrapped in individual packages, they included a lovely postcard with a birthday message from me - and the bike courier delivering the package even wished her a happy birthday! She was delighted, and will certainly be shopping here when it reopens. The owners also immediately responded to me when I asked a question about delivery via Instagram. A real example of how thoughtful, kind customer service can make all the difference. Thank you so much!

I come from New York City, a place with a multitude of fantastic stores. However, my consistent complaint is that sales staff in NYC are useless. At many places, they'll barely look up from their phone or shelf when you walk in. Epitome has one of the best selections of brands I've seen anywhere. It's Ostensibly a women's boutique but the selection of brands and styles ensures there's something for everyone. More importantly, the staff is wondersfully friendly. From the very beginning being greeted in a warm and welcoming way by our brilliant host Archie, we were taken through the history of whisky making in an informative and entertaining way by Archie. Then we were given the opportunity to taste 5 very different whisky styles from across the 5 regions. After that, we saw the Worlds largest unopened whisky bottle collection which was simply stunning! And to finish, we enjoyed a Scottish food tasting experience in the delightful Amber restaurant. The evening was a truly 5* experience! 👍👍

Awesome tour. I like the immersive element and the storytelling of both our guide and then voice over. Also the fact you move to different rooms was appreciated - rather than just standing in one place for an hour. Darcy was brilliant. Great knowledge, led the tour well and created a great space to share. We also did the 3 course dinner after which was also amazing. Highly recommend doing that too.

A highly refined and entertaining show. Much more high tech than I expected. I went in knowing basically nothing about it and left feeling like I have some knowledge about whiskey making and different parts of Scotland that give you different flavors. That was actually pretty true. Also the alcohol offerings at the end are pretty reasonable and they have a really nice selection. The collection was also super impressive.

Well worth an obligatory visit whilst in Edinburgh, as a novice to whiskey I opted for the Silver tour just to tour and try the 1. Also visited the very nice Amber Bar downstairs that's worth a visit after if not too busy. The barman is excellent and will find you one to your taste.

This was a great experience. We did the gold tour. Our guide Jackson was very informative and funny. Would highly recommend this tour to visitors to get a better understanding of waht whiskey to buy as gifts or for personal taste

Princes Street Gardens is a renowned park in Edinburgh, situated along the main thoroughfare that separates the Old Town from the New Town. It holds historical significance as it was once part of the Nor Loch and features various public monuments and memorials. The gardens are a popular spot for picnics during summer, offering stunning views of famous landmarks like the Scott Monument, a Gothic spire dedicated to Sir Walter Scott.
A stunning, well maintained garden with the most amazing fountain. The whole thing just took my breath away, and the gardens ended up being my favourite part of our day trip to Edinburgh. I was in awe of the fountain, and the view of the castle is the cherry on top of the whole experience. I would definitely recommend a walk through the park if you're in Edinburgh. It's great whether you're just passing through and having a fifteen minute stroll, or spending hours in the sun with a good book!

Princes Street Gardens is such a peaceful spot right in the middle of Edinburgh. It’s the perfect place to take a break from walking around the city, with plenty of benches, greenery, and a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle above. The gardens are beautifully maintained, and it feels like a little oasis despite being in the heart of the city. A lovely place for a stroll, picnic, or just to relax and people-watch.
Sara S — Google review
This garden has lovely scenery, under the Edinburgh castle. Come here for an escape from the city. It is well maintained and perfect for walks, and picnics. Lots of benches to sit and relax. There is a very good playground for the kids and a beautiful fountain
Cdakingtamudo — Google review
I thought this was a lovely park. I don't know if they were open but it also had toilets. It was a bit steep pushing a pushchair up and down but manageable. It has a lovely view of the castle and plenty of benches.
Hannah P — Google review
A favourite place every time we are in the city. A lovely park, stunning views up to the castle and the royal mile. Has the national gallery next door and is a right next to the main shopping area. Nice to step into the calm of the park from the chaos of Princes st!! Photos attached are taken from Carlton Hill looking down on Princes street that the gardens run along side

A lovely park in the heart of Edinburgh, perfect for a quiet walk and beautiful views of the Castle. Along the way, you’ll find the statue of Wojtek the bear, a touching piece of history 🐻. A peaceful and charming stop worth visiting. ✨
El H — Google review
I loved the place. It's very spacious, great for walking and exercising, clean and tidy, and teeming with tourists. It has very ancient ruins. I didn't feel the time pass as I walked around and explored. What I liked most was the lake and its waters, and the weather was perfect for staying outside for a longer period.

Princes Street Gardens: Edinburgh’s Enchanted Escape Tucked in central Edinburgh, Scotland—sandwiched between Princes Street’s vibrant shops and the Old Town’s shadowy alleys—these gardens burst with free, emerald magic. Wander crisp paths lined with vivid blooms and a whimsical flower clock ticking in petals. On drizzly autumn days, fiery golden-red leaves dance in the breeze like fiery sprites, while the castle’s rugged silhouette looms from lush meadows, stealing your breath. Spot the Scott Monument in the East— a soaring Gothic tower to Sir Walter Scott, with a climbable platform unveiling jaw-dropping city vistas. Circle its base for that spine-tingling history buzz, trees whispering secrets, castle peeking through branches. Prime for lazy people-watching, golden-hour glows, or dodging the urban frenzy. Reviewers swoon over the serene splendor. 10/10 dreamy detour!

Mary's Milk Bar is a charming, retro ice cream parlour located on Grassmarket in Edinburgh. It has gained a reputation for its inventive flavor combinations, such as gorgonzola, pear and honey gelato and pickled bramble sorbet. The Holyroods Moo Pie, a small batch gelato with soft serve cookie sandwiches, has garnered a devoted following. The gelato is handmade every morning using fresh and ever-changing ingredients, resulting in exceptionally rich flavors.
The best ice cream! First trip to Scotland and this was the best thing I ate. My husband who does not like sweet said this was the best ice cream he’s ever had in his life. This place was so memorable with the flavors! The best flavor was the cherry and cream. We did try salted caramel and the goat cheese and fig honey and those were pretty great as well.
Meli B — Google review
Mary’s milk bar had a great menu with delicious offerings. It gets busy really quick and while we got there at the right time (just when it opened), when we walked by a few hours later they had a queue down the street and up the stairs around the corner. Definitely worth going - just be prepared that you may have to wait your turn!
Alyssa B — Google review
Phenomenal! Undoubtedly the best gelato I’ve had. It’s that good we went back. We had lavender and lemon curd, caramel fig and cardamom sorbet, salted caramel and spiced pumpkin and apple. Unique flavours that you won’t find elsewhere that are just delicious.
N M — Google review
Ice-cream are all freshly made and smooth and some of them have very unique flavors. It’s great that Mary makes all the gelato and chocolate every morning. The flavours change each day and each season - no day is the same. You can check their Instagram page for updates. Their bar and stools are made from 100% recycled milk bottles and their colourful tops.
Hoot H — Google review
Short wait but the ice cream was definitely worth it. Creamy without being too heavy and mildly sweet without being overpowering. Tried salted caramel, whisky oats and cherry flavors. All were good and grabbed seat in park opposite to enjoy while people (and pigeon) watching.
Rani P — Google review
Very cute shop from the outside, so I decided to checkout their offerings. I couldn’t decide what ice cream flavour to get, so the staff offered me to sample a couple of different options, which was very nice and helpful. I went with the seasonal apple walnut and I’m happy I did because it’s a very unique flavour!
Ștefania B — Google review
WORTH THE WAIT. The queue overall moves pretty quickly. The longest we waited was around 15 minutes. They have daily new flavors. We tried a couple of them. My personal favorite, the spaghetti sundae! You can pick your gelato flavor and they top it with milk ice spaghetti, cherry meatballs, grated white chocolate, pepper (yesss!!)and bread crumbs (and maybe even salt). The whole combination is an explosion in your mouth. The staff is friendly, helpful and patient. We took the ice creams outside, sitting on the grass enjoying the sun and people passing by, there are worse ways to pass your time.

This place is highly reviewed and the gelato did not disappoint. We enjoyed the dark chocolate as well as the salted caramel. Limited seating but the shop itself is lovely.

House of Fraser is a historic and posh department store founded in 1838, offering designer clothing, beauty items, and a food hall. The store features various departments including a toy section that allows testing out toys. It has a beautiful open 'courtyard' area, multiple cafes, and a restaurant. While the store may be slightly rundown in some areas, it retains its classic charm. Visitors can find shopping bargains and enjoy courteous service.
This department star is fun even if you just walk through. They have an overall good selection and the 2nd floor has a very nice restaurant and coffee shop with bakery. Wonderful place to pick up true Scottish made goods.

Beautiful old department store. I recommend entering through the back on Rose St to avoid the chaotic front cosmetic area. They have some wonderful brands from the UK, and a lovely restaurant and cafe. Great for gifts and souvenirs, however it is quite expensive. The Christmas decorations are amazing !
Penny E — Google review
Main restaurant on level 2 has great lunch choices, was very impressed with the pork roast not to mention the fantastic view of the Scot Monument. This is my review purely for their food - shopping wise this place is, what the Brits would call, 'pants'.
Carol Y — Google review
Classic Edinburgh department store with a beautiful open "courtyard" area, all the shopping departments you can think of, 3 cafes and a restaurant. The store is a bit rundown in places but retains its classic charm nonetheless. I always find some shopping bargains here whenever I visit. Service is courteous and friendly.

Amazing! Even if you never buy anything hete it's lovely just to stroll around. They often have great deals on also so you might be able to treat yourself! The staff are helpful and friendly also. Everyone needs to visit at Christmas just to see the tree. It is breathtakingly beautiful. Great place to get into the Christmas spirit and also get away from the cold of the markets.
SIMPLY E — Google review
Typical House of Fraser store with a stunning balcony and architecture. There’s a restaurant on the 2nd floor which offers afternoon tea which comes with an amazing view. The scone and the cakes taste good. Shame that the service at the restaurant in not that great. There are dirty tables everywhere, you have to clear the table yourself as nobody is there to take away dirty plates and trays. The floor is dirty, looks more like a fast food restaurant than you would expect from HoF. The table with the cakes is not filled up, there are empty plates everywhere.

A good commercial centre in Edinborough.. They had a good quality and variety of products. It is not a new one, but it is refurbished with and old remminescence, but all the commodities and products of our times. There are a restaurant and bar, with good quality food products. Tron Kirk & Royal Mile Market is a tourist information center on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland. The center offers information about the church and the market, as well as selling souvenirs and handicrafts. It is a great place to visit if you are interested in shopping and meeting the creators of the things you purchase.
Beautiful little church that hosts a variety of Scottish artists and creators selling everything from genuine art pieces to coasters, jewelry, coasters, accessories and much more

A local craft market located in a historical church and landmark near the center of the Royal Mile on High Street. The church was originally built in the 17th century a was converted into a market which houses a variety of local vendors and talented artists selling Scottish made crafts and goods. Scottish history and culture are rich in the Tron Kirk Market. The church is beautiful in itself with original interior and beautiful stained-glass windows. The market offers a variety of unique handcrafted treasures, and the quality and selection of products is excellent and different from anything else you’ll pick up in the shops along the Royal Mile. Here you’ll find paintings, prints, jewelry, clothing, food and more. Prices might be a bit higher than some of your average souvenir shops but you’re paying for quality handcrafted goods. This is a must see if you’re looking for unique souvenirs and want to pick up that something special. It’s also fantastic for supporting local artists and vendors.
Luisa K — Google review
Love the atmosphere and collection of artists. I do wish they had more but then you can visit the Scottish Design Exchange. Prices are a good range and the building is gorgeous.
Sally C — Google review
Nice market set within a history structure which can be researched inside. Free to enter It's a very old site that has been restored over time and stood ground by changing its function. The market is mostly handcrafts, all locally made. Prices are high I felt but match the high quality. Expect to find trinkets, tote bags, artwork, jewelry, candles, notebooks, coasters, postcards and all other manner of things It's not a large area so your visit will be brief.
Tellus 1 — Google review
Probably the best location on the Royal Mile. Stalls with hand craftet jewellery, paintings and lots of other things. You can find something for everyone. And all this in a beautiful setting.

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh along the iconic Royal Mile, Royal Mile Whiskies is a compact haven for whisky enthusiasts. This charming store specializes in an impressive selection of single malt whiskies, alongside bourbons, blends, and Irish whiskeys. With its knowledgeable staff—some of whom have been part of the team for decades—visitors can expect personalized recommendations and engaging conversations about their favorite spirits.
Returning to Royal Mile Whiskies is always a highlight of my Edinburgh trips. This shop is perfectly located on the historic Royal Mile and offers a dizzying array of whiskies that cater to both novices and connoisseurs alike. What sets this place apart is the staff; they are not only deeply knowledgeable about their products but also genuinely attentive to what you are looking for, never pushing the priciest options but rather guiding you based on your taste and budget. The prices at Royal Mile Whiskies are very reasonable, making it a great spot to pick up both well-known labels and rare finds without breaking the bank. The selection is extensive and well-curated, ensuring that there is something for every whisky enthusiast. I highly recommend Royal Mile Whiskies for anyone looking to explore the world of whisky or to add to their collection. Their approachable expertise and the welcoming atmosphere make every visit a pleasure. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this shop is a treasure not to be missed on your Edinburgh itinerary.

We were just a of couple days in Edinburgh and as a beginner in the world of good whiskies I entered this little but charming store, with plenty of different whiskies and a really helpful staff, ready to help you choice the best option for you. It was Michael who assisted us (but all of them were really nice) explaining many types and flavours and finally I chose this two amazing whiskies. I’ve already tried Tomatin 12 years and all I can say is ‘Thank you Michael!!’. It’s really tasty and for a beginner like me, really easy to enjoy!

Went over this evening and had a wonderful experience - everything you would want: incredible selection, fairly priced and lovely and knowledgeable staff. Really helpful without ever being overbearing. When I did need some help, they were able to suggest some new whiskies and let me try them. Will definitely be back, and will also check out their online shop since I'm London-based.
Baydr Y — Google review
An excellent whisky place to shop for your next whisky. They have tastings too if you'd like to try one of more specific ones. Martin helped us out and he was very knowledgeable about the various kinds of Scottish whiskies, like their history, methods of preparation, how the American whiskies (Bourbons) differ from the Scottish ones. A definite must visit store on the royal mile.
Adithya A — Google review
Had a great experience with them. We found a very rare bottle of the best whiskey I've ever tasted (not telling until the world actually runs out) and worked out some complicated shipping arrangements that required them to stay a bit later than their official hours. I couldn’t be more satisfied with their selection or their service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for any kind of whiskey but especially to people looking for the stuff you usually can't find in ordinary shops.
박수정 — Google review
We saw recommendations from this store on Reddit and I can say that the recommendations were on point!! Amazing experience! The guy that helped was friendly, patient, had very nice suggestions on the price range specified and also made recommendations of distilleries tours and whiskey tastings outside the more “touristic” and common options. It is definitely the perfect location to take some nice whiskeys home.

Amazing delivery time. I live in Denmark, I ordered some bottles on a Wednesday. On Friday, just 2 days after (!) my bottles were delivered - and they had to pass through customs first, mind you. That's gonna be really, really tough to beat!

The Fudge House of Edinburgh, located on The Royal Mile since 1949, is a family-run business that still makes all their fudge by hand using their original secret family recipe. Visitors can take a leisurely walk from the Castle to experience the amazing variety of fudge on offer at the shop. With lots of options available, guests can choose from various delicious flavors and even take them home in beautifully crafted boxes.
The Fudge House of Edinburgh offers a great selection of rich and flavorful fudge. The orange had a nice citrusy zing, balancing sweetness with a refreshing tang. The mocha coffee was smooth with a deep coffee taste, perfect for caffeine lovers. The hazelnut chocolate was creamy, nutty, and indulgent, while the caramel was classic, buttery, and perfectly sweet. The texture was smooth and slightly crumbly, just as good fudge should be.
LaAm — Google review
You must try the fudge house sweet shop. Wide variety of delicious fudge. I bought 10 different fudge and all of them are delicious. I highly recommend to visit them and try their wide selection of fudge.

Scotland is well known for their fudge..available in most places. This place makes artisan fudge. The general misconception is that fudge is hard & sticky! Certainly not these! They simply melted in your mouth! Planned to pick a couple, bought 8! Flavours are: Dark chocolate Pistachio Lemon Meringue Butterscotch Rum & Raisin Pecan maple syrup Chocolate with Hazelnuts Rum & Raisin was well flavoured as the taste of rum was evident. However, it was too sweet. Tq Fudge House for making such great fudge which just melts in the mouth!
Kiran S — Google review
The Fudge House is a charming, historic shop on the Royal Mile, and their fudge is truly artisanal — made in small batches with care. The texture is rich and melts in your mouth, and they offer a wide variety of flavors from classic Highland Cream to exotic combos. That said, the fudge is very sweet — it leans heavily into the sugary side, so if you’re sensitive to sweetness, some pieces may feel overwhelming. You’ll definitely taste the sugar, not just the flavorings. Overall, I think it’s a great spot for a sweet treat or a gift, especially if you love traditional, sugary fudge — just be ready for that sugar hit.
Mariam — Google review
The Fudge House is a must-visit in Edinburgh! Their handmade fudge is rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious — with so many flavors to choose from. The staff are friendly and happy to offer samples. Perfect for a treat or a gift (if you can resist eating it all yourself!).
Ayat H — Google review
I bought fudge here two years ago, and my family and friends back home in South Africa said it was the best they’d ever tasted. I was in Edinburgh this weekend, and the number one thing on my bucket list was to come back and get more!
Zane E — Google review
Honestly, I wanted to like the fudge because it had such good reviews, with that said I was thoroughly unimpressed. It's fine. But, it's not creamy, it was more like candy corn in consistency. We got six flavors, chocolate peppermint, chocolate orange, chocolate hazelnut, chocolate coconut, chocolate peanut butter, and I think the last one was called highland cream. My favorite was probably the coconut flavor.
Ian M — Google review
I visited The Fudge House of Edinburgh on Canongate taking walk from the Castle which brings back some good memories down to experience the amazing different types of fudge on offer. There are lots of options and you can pick up an amazing box of various delicious flavours and take them home or eat them on the move. The fudge shop has seen three generations running the shop and the experience in make delicious fudge has made the shop one of the best places to visit when coming to Edinburgh. Watching the staff making the fudge and packing the fudge in front of you with the passion of making the customer enjoy the experience of testing real fudge. The customer service is friendly, considerate, and helpful in selecting the different types of fudge on offer. I would highly recommend paying a visit if you are in the area. Thankyou The Fudge House of Edinburgh for the delicious fudge I had.
