British restaurant
Whiski Bar & Restaurant, located on Edinburgh's historic Royal Mile, is a renowned establishment offering an extensive selection of over 270 whiskies. The bar also features live Scottish music and a diverse menu that focuses on Scottish classics made with the best local seasonal produce. The shabby chic decor and mood lighting create a unique ambiance for patrons to enjoy a wee dram or indulge in hearty Scottish fare.
Delightful surprise on High street in the old town section of Dublin. Best of all it was a true Scottish public experience. We enjoyed dinner as a group of six that included three people using wheelchairs and the staff at Whiski Bar was absolutely delightful. The food was delicious, authentic, beef pie was wonderful, as were our other entrees, and our server Kat was top-notch. Special shout out to Leon tending bar who was a true fan of single malt whiskeys. Highly recommend a visit!

We didn’t have a reservation and walked into this pub. We were very happy with the atmosphere , service and the food! Beef pie and the Skink soup we had, both were excellent. We finished with caramel bread pudding and it was delicious. I wish we had more room in our stomach as the fish and chips in the table next to us looked delicious as well.

Very nice location, nice decoration and vibes spot on. We've been served by Jack (I believe it's the name, sorry if not) and the nice lady with red hair. The food was lovely, I got the salmon and my partner got the chicken dish, the haggis roll spring were amazing and the plum sauce was to die for, so was the whiskey flight 6 experience. 100% recommended for a Scottish experience.
Alessia C — Google review
Absolutely brilliant spot! The food was fantastic – the Scottish breakfast was top-notch, and the Eggs Benedict with haggis was just pure heaven. The cocktails were spot on, perfectly made and full of flavour. The atmosphere’s warm, lively and full of Scottish charm – exactly what you’d hope for in the heart of Edinburgh. Everything was just perfect – we’ll definitely be back!
Zsanett K — Google review
Welcoming, quick service, clean and great atmosphere. Nicest cocktails I had in Edinburgh and the steak pie was delicious. It would be good to have the choice of mash as an alternative to chips. They have live bands each evening but we came to eat early evening.
Kellie V — Google review
The staff is very friendly and the food was nice. I personally would prefer some more veggies, but the taste was on point. The live music was very entertaining and excellent service for serving the right whiskey.
Kc — Google review
Fantastic service and atmosphere. We stopped in at Whiski Bar on Friday afternoon after leaving another nearby spot that really wasn’t what we expected and I’m so glad we did! From the moment we walked through the door, the staff were warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Even without a booking, they found us a lovely table right away and made us feel completely looked after. The service was brilliant. attentive without being over the top and there was just a really nice buzz about the place. Everything felt relaxed but still professional, and it reminded us what good hospitality should feel like. The drinks were great, the food smelled amazing and the whole experience just had that effortless charm that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Huge thanks to the team for turning our afternoon around. It’s rare these days to find somewhere that gets both service and atmosphere so right. We’ll definitely be coming back soon.

Great Sticky Bread Pudding!!! Popped in for dessert; they were pretty busy, but the staff hooked us with a table and very welcoming! The Sticky Bread Pudding did not disappoint!

Restaurant
Arcade Bar Haggis & Whisky House, located on Cockburn Street, offers a relaxed atmosphere with a focus on whisky and haggis. The menu features traditional Scottish dishes, with a variety of haggis options including Haggis Neeps and Tatties, Haggis Burger, stuffed Chicken Breast, and even Vegan Haggis. The establishment also houses the Secret Polish Vodka Bar upstairs.
I had the chance to try haggis while in Scotland, and it was such a memorable experience! The dish itself was full of flavor and wonderfully prepared, truly giving me a taste of authentic Scottish tradition. What made the visit even better was the staff — they were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made me feel right at home. The atmosphere of the place was also fantastic, warm and inviting, perfect for enjoying a traditional meal. Overall, it was an excellent experience that I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Scotland.
Mahsa B — Google review
First time trying Haggis and absolutely love it! We ordered both versions, the classic one and the princess Diana one, wich was my favorite, excellent spot to try it, good drinks and very nice and cozy atmosphere at the restaurant.
Laura P — Google review
If you want to try haggis and whisky, this is the place to go! The haggis was incredible - a generous portion, packed with flavour, and perfectly cooked. I added the whisky sauce which was definitely the right call, well-seasoned and served at just the right temperature. I also tried the cranachan, a traditional Scottish dessert made with oats, whipped cream, raspberries and whisky. It had a really unique and interesting flavour profile though the whisky can come through quite strong if you don't mix it well! Service was excellent, quick, attentive and genuinely friendly. They have a wide selection of whiskies from different regions, and the staff are super knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations. Will definitely be back!
K — Google review
The Princess Diana haggis was really delicious. Smoked Scottish Salmon Bites and Scotch Eggs did not disappoint. Prompt and friendly service. Good whisky range.
Yokim Y — Google review
I was hoping for arcade games as the name suggested that but that's not the case. However they have great variety of scotch whiskey to choose from. The server Amy was so very helpful in recommending me to a delicious tasting scotch. Friendly, informative and attentive is how I'd describe the service. Keep up the good work. (Side not get an arcade game or two.) Lol!
Stewart S — Google review
A cosy spot just off the Royal Mile, Arcade Bar Haggis & Whisky House is perfect for a proper Scottish bite. Had Robert Burn’s famous haggis and the haggis-stuffed chicken — both hearty, flavourful, and done right. Warm pub atmosphere, friendly staff, and the kind of place you’ll want to linger after exploring Edinburgh’s old town. Ideal for tasting some of the best haggis in the city.
RithuTheExplorer V — Google review
Best haggis in Edinburgh! We also tried the salmon/haddock fishcakes, also very nice. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Dieter V — Google review
Went here for another try of haggis, did not disappoint. The portion was large and the presentation was lovely. The haggis itself had a great flavor but was a bit sticky. The atmosphere was great in the restaurant. Biig comfy chairs and space in-between tables. The service was very good. Enjoyed our meal here.

Restaurant
The Haggis Box is a cheerful cafe that offers both meat and veggie Scottish haggis, neeps, and tatties. Customers can enjoy the delicious gluten-free haggis with whisky sauce and friendly service. For those seeking a street food experience, The Haggis Box offers a steaming hot box of Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties with various sauce options at select locations.
Haggis is the national dish of Scotland. It is a savory pudding made from the heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep, mixed with onions, oats, beef tallow, and spices, stuffed into a sheep's stomach and cooked. [2][3] It has a firm, chewy texture and a salty, nutty flavor. It is usually served with neeps and mashed potatoes, which is very traditional.
Wai L — Google review
My first time trying Haggis and i was pleasantly surprised. Being Dutch i know my mashes but the haggis and especially whisky-mustardsauce made it a whole different experience. Highly recommend!
SephiMasamune — Google review
A wonderful little café/eatery with a very laid-back vibe. I had Haggis and Tatties which was great, but the scotch egg was incredible. Staff are very friendly. If you're in Edinburgh and want to try Haggis or other Scottish cuisine this is the place for you!
Corey L — Google review
The national dish of Scotland was quite tasty. We were worried about the strong odor of the offal (which is the main component of haggis btw) but that was not the case at all. They successfully eliminated the odor with spices, and the whisky mustard sauce made everything come together nicely. I particularly enjoyed this original sauce as the mustard was not too strong and enhanced the haggis flavor, so it’s worth to pay 1.5 pounds extra. Overall, a nice introduction to Scottish specialty.
Khai D — Google review
From what I’d seen, there were a lot of recommendations to try the haggis here — and of course, I’m no expert, but this one was my least favorite. The mash lacked salt, the sauce had too much mustard, and overall it just didn’t feel balanced. We definitely had tastier ones afterward! But I still think it’s worth trying, just to see how differently the same dish can be made.
Knyslius K — Google review
I am not sure where can I find "authentic" haggis. How do you know what is cooked fresh or straight of the can? And so whilst I cannot judge at the level on this place, I can however say for sure that they serve one of the best haggis I have tasted during my trip in Scotland. And we have tried few places. In addition, we tried their scotch egg and quiche and I can say portions were decent, prices were affordable and the food was really good. Worth the visit.
Hari S — Google review
Food was great. Very simple: haggis, neeps, and tatties. Some other food items are available, but the menu is quite simple. I got the traditional haggis. It was awesome 👌 the atmosphere is a bit odd as it seems to share the same space with like a cultural museum. You'll see if you go.
Steven R — Google review
My first time trying haggis and I loved it! I personally didn’t add any sauce to it and it was delicious, although my husband still enjoyed the whisky sauce. I can’t wait to be back!

Video arcade
NQ64 Edinburgh is a vibrant bar and arcade adorned with colorful neon lights, offering an array of cocktails, craft beers, and retro games. Conveniently located not far from Princes Street, this venue boasts a diverse selection of well-maintained arcade machines. While some games may require more tokens than indicated, the overall pricing for drinks is reasonable. The themed cocktails are a highlight, complementing the extensive collection of favorite arcade cabinets.
Really and different fun night out! I loved the arcade bar, I wish I had the chance to play more games, but it was really crowded (we went on a Saturday night). The cocktail I had (the peach one) was really good and so easy to drink! I also particularly loved the photo booth in the venue. The service was really good and we were served really quickly.
Perla B — Google review
Really nice bar located in the city centre, lots of classic games to play and a selection of classic arcade games and two pinball machines to play on! Tokens are pricy but good value if you’re staying for a couple of hours with a drink, overall a really nice atmosphere and they also do song requests when they can. A really good time, especially if you bring your friends!
Lewis M — Google review
We had a fantastic night out at NQ64 Edinburgh. The staff was ready for our group. We all enjoyed the organised drink tokens and arcade tokens. Part of the group was not drinking and part of the group was not gaming but we mixed and matched and everybody had a great night out. Cocktails were fun, tasty and professionally created by the bar staff. Games occasionally malfunctioned but staff quickly resolved it and refunded tokens. Make sure to ask! Thank you, thank you to the staff.
David K — Google review
had a really nice evening at NQ64. was actually more for my partner to visit this as we don't have this in Belgium. and as he'a game collector this is nice to see/do. but must say i enjoyed it as well. games from our childhood to be able to play them again was fun. definitely an amusing evening when you would go there.
Katrien M — Google review
Took my partner here, and we had a fun time! Played loads of games, and the atmosphere was really good. Service was great as well. The only thing I didn't like was that people were hogging the consoles, so we didn't get around to playing Super Mario Racing and other games. I think that needs to be managed better to make it fair on others. Highly recommend for something a bit different on a night out!
Ross C — Google review
Went here just last night with my mates, absolutely loved it. I'm an avid fan of old-school/retro arcade cabinets and it was awesome to play on them so freely with some nice drinks and a really good atmosphere (Big fan of the low light level, helps my eyes haha). Staff are really friendly too, had an issue with silent scope eating my tokens and had my issue solved in seconds (The staff member escapes me at the moment unfortunately) Will be coming back for sure :)
Aiden S — Google review
An amazing arcade bar like no other I’ve been to. The service was sooo good and the drinks and cocktails were superb! The music was good and the selection of play consoles and arcades was good. I highly recommend this place. I’m definitely going back on my next visit to Scotland. Love from🇳🇴

Makars Mash Bar is a laid-back eatery that takes mashed potatoes to new heights with a variety of meat and vegetarian toppings. This unassuming spot has quietly gained popularity for its unique dining concept, offering comfort food at great value. The menu features Scottish dishes like haggis, neeps, and tatties alongside roasted crispy potato skins and cheddar and chives Scottish mash.
From the moment we were greeted at the door, with no reservation, and found a table we knew we had found a special place. The staff really cared and clearly loved their job. Good surroundings and beer was lovely. Great eco credentials and vegan, vegetarian options. The food was amazing quality, like homemade but if your mum was a world class chef. The mushroom tour and home grown mushrooms was a particular USP that I haven't seen before. Every time we are back in Edinburgh we will book a table here.
Neil M — Google review
We came across Makars Mash Bar online after reading rave reviews. We didn’t have a booking so we had to wait on our table. The text service was great as it allowed us to go away and get a notification when a table was available. Every single member of staff we came into contact with were so lovely, they are a real credit and should be commended for their customer service skills. The setting is super cosy and I loved the Scottish themed wall decals - it was very unique and charming and gave us something to look at/read whilst waiting on our food. The menu had lots of choice and the food arrived quickly. We chose the scotch egg and mushroom starters and the beef shoulder for our mains. The food was amazing - the beef was so tender and we loved the novelty of choosing our mash. I had the applewood smoked cheese mash and it was delicious! Portions are big, the gravy was lovely and the sides were incredible. Our only complaint is that we wanted to sleep afterwards as we felt so full! The food is total comfort food and made us feel like we were having a nice home cooked Sunday dinner. Being here felt like a warm hug - we didn’t want to leave and we felt so comfortable and at home. We can’t wait til’ the next time and we’ve already recommended this place to so many people.
Kristina H — Google review
Every single dish we ordered was spectacular, Here's a breakdown of what we tried: Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank: This was pure perfection. The meat was incredibly tender and fall-off-the-bone, so flavorful and aromatic. It was served with buttery mashed potatoes and a rich homemade gravy that complemented the lamb beautifully. A truly classic and satisfying dish. Slow-Cooked Beef Shoulder: Similarly, the beef was braised to utter tenderness and was so addictive! The deep, savory flavor had us taking big, happy bites without stopping. The bacon mashed potatoes on the side were incredibly fragrant and the perfect comfort food pairing. Scotch Egg:This was a revelation! It had three distinct layers: a crispy outer shell, a flavorful minced pork middle, and a perfectly runny soft-boiled egg at its heart. The textures and flavors were incredible on their own, but when paired with the homemade garlic aioli, it was so good that we immediately ordered a second portion! Mini Haggis: A delightful and delicious dish! The sweetness of the pumpkin puree harmonized perfectly with the savory, fragrant Haggis and the creamy mashed potatoes. A wonderful combination of flavors and textures. Given the exceptional quality of the food, the very reasonable prices, and the friendly service, it's no surprise at all that this place has a constant queue during dining hours. It is absolutely worth the wait! We cannot wait to return and try the rest of the menu. Highly, recommended!
Amanda L — Google review
Makars is my favourite place to eat when we visit Edinburgh! The food is top notch. We didn’t reserve, just showed up. The wait was circa 30 mins but they take your details and text when the table is available. The restaurant feels cosy with seating over two floors. The food is quality ingredients cooked to the highest standard. The haggis is made fresh onsite and you can taste it. The price reflects fairness and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. If you are not eating haggis, neeps and tatties with an iron bru in Edinburgh then what you doing!
Alex C — Google review
Busy place! We came without a reservation around 6 p.m. and waited about an hour to be seated. The service is attentive. The menu features mostly meat options, with a couple of vegetarian alternatives. The food arrived quite quickly. Portions are big, so we had no room left for dessert. The tomato soup is tasty, the mushrooms were a treat, and the special lamb was very delicious. A nice touch is that you can choose your preferred type of mash to accompany the meat. The salad, however, was a surprise — the grilled buckwheat on top felt a bit weird on the teeth. It’s a touristy place, so there’s no special ambiance.
Dariana D — Google review
They are very, very busy — it was quite hard to book a table online, but luckily we managed to get one as a walk-in. When we arrived, there was already a huge queue outside, and we were told it might take up to an hour to get a table. We left our details and came back an hour later, which was great because we didn’t have to wait in line in front of the restaurant. I had the lamb shank with gravy — and wow, it was absolutely amazing! The meat was tender, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were all very polite and friendly. The dessert was one of the best puddings I’ve ever had — definitely a highlight! Prices were reasonable, and the portions were quite generous. I’ll definitely come back to try more from their menu.
Stef — Google review
Awesome food! Absolutely loved it here. Great quality food, great service and reasonable prices for the city centre location. Really good value! There are 2 restaurants. If you haven't booked a table you can turn up to the one on the corner. I'd recommend booking in advanced, which I think is for the second restaurant further down the hill. We had no wait today despite there being a long queue when we arrived. Our table was ready immediately.
Steve M — Google review
A bit of a wait to get in because it's so popular, but is easy to ignore because you can just put your name in and wander around the Royal Mile window shopping or grabbing a drink elsewhere until they text you that your table is ready. The food is remarkably fantastic. There are many choices and the staff are very helpful in suggestions of both food and drinks. We shared the salad with scotch egg and then my husband had the lamb shank and I had the beef shoulder. They were both very tender and delicious. The Thistly Cross cider was bright, refreshing, and paired well.

Wow! We did the 8 course wee tour of Scotland and it was hands down the best food we’ve ever had. Several things on the menu I would have never ordered otherwise, so I’m delighted to have tried so many new foods cooked to perfection. In addition to the amazing food, our servers were incredibly attentive, very friendly, and would chat about the different foods we were tasting. Amazing experience and restaurant. We will make it a point to return anytime we’re in Edinburgh.

Great experience, pricey but in the economic side being a Michelin star restaurant. Excellent menu, incredible preparations and great service. If you're in Edinburgh and having these 7 course menus is your thing. You should visit the Wedgwood.

Nice fine dining with Scottish flavours - The 7 courses tasting menu with flavours of Scotland was incredible tasty. Really recommend. - it isn’t crazily pricey considering that it is a fine dining restaurant . £80 for the 7 courses tasting menu - suitable for a date and special occasions. - booking required. It is quite small and gets really busy - toilet available and only street parking

Blown away by the service. My wife indicated that our daughters had food allergies when we booked and they created a a modified menu of all the things safe for them to eat. Friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the food, sourcing, and wine and whiskey. We would come back here often if we lived in Edinburgh. Food was amazing - I enjoyed the chef’s tasting menu thoroughly. Not a miss on the entire list. What an experience. The owner Lisa could not have been more accommodating and welcoming.

Amazing food. Amazing service. We were grateful they were able to fit us in for a late seating (I think we were just very lucky with timing, and reservations are required). Very imaginative menu highlighting some of the best quality ingredients you can find in Scotland. Lobster thermidor creme brulee and oyster snack were not only unique, but absolutely delicious. Scallop special with pickled strawberries was perfectly cooked and balanced. Chicken breast was also cooked perfectly, and the Highland ribeye was also delicious (cooked a bit past medium, but still tender, so I can't really complain at all). Sticky toffee pudding was excellent, especially with a glass of Pedro Ximinez sherry. Wine list is also excellent with high quality selections at various price points. Real standout was the Michelin level service through the entire meal. Top of our list for our next visit to Edinburgh.

The food is so good! I had the scallop strawberry kelp dish and the lobster creme brûlée. I should have taken pics it was so good. Their homemade bread was amazing too!

Hidden gem! We saw this restaurant in a french coverage on Scottish food in which the chef shows where he sources his products... We were simply amazed by a menu that offers classics (e.g. haggis, ginger bread) with taste and little twist, at a very reasonable price for such high quality - Michelin label very well deserved!! They are also lovely. Highly recommend and would come back :)

Lovely table for the first diner here in Scotland. I enjoyed the Beetroot for a starter and the aubergine as main course. I wish I was enough hungry to try the desert. Laurence

Restaurant
The World's End is a charming local pub located on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, housed in a 16th-century listed building that was once part of the Flodden Walls. This historic tavern offers a friendly atmosphere and serves up cask ales along with an extensive menu featuring specialty burgers and classic pub dishes like fish and chips made with crispy Atlantic haddock.
When visiting the John Knox Home Museum, the woman helping us suggested this place. It's a rainy Wednesday early evening and although it was busy in this small restaurant, we were seated within 10 minutes without a reservation. We were intrigued by the story, but impressed with the food for its creativity, freshness, and robust flavors. We started with the Pulled Beef Rib Croquettes and Aspargus & Feta Salad with peas & mint. Both starters were fantastic and bursting with flavor. For dinner we chose a Pulled Mushroom Chilli with black beans, parsley Bismanti Rice, and guacamole and a small salad. Also we shared Salmon Fishcakes & Vintage Cheddar with a side salad with lots of delicious veggies and three times cooked fries. For desert we shared a Blackberry Elderberry Eton Mess. It was not too sweet, but full of flavor with meringue slivers for a crunch.

Nice pub with authentic feel. Took a bit of time to get seated but once that was done service was good. Food was just OK, was hoping to eat the slow cooked pork belly but apparently it's no longer in the menu. Had wild boar sausages instead which tasted disappointingly tame, though the sauce was great.

Superb food and service! They were absolutely lovely and took great care of me as a solo dinner. I had a fantastic traditional dinner of steak and ale pie with an absolutely incredible grilled cabbage wedge and mash. The real star, however, was the haggis patties as a starter. I love haggis and these were some of the best I’ve ever had. And I could have bathed in the gravy. It was wayyy too much food for me but I somehow managed to eat most of it since I’d walked all day! Also bought a t-shirt for my son as a fun souvenir. Thank you to the wonderful staff at The World’s End for a great experience!

We loved “The World’s End”. It is a very homey pub, with a great draught beer selection and a really good food menu. The two bartenders we had were outstanding. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual; great for couples or gatherings of friends.

Lovely people from England sat next to us with their baby frenchie!! The food was great. The servers didn't pay much attention to us but we still had a great time.

We ordered the day's special menu (starter - fried pork / main - shellfish dishes), both of which were so nice. The waiter was quick and kind (especially, explanation of the dishes). On the whole, we were satisfied with the service, dishes and the genuine atmosphere there.

I love this little pub. Great service, good food, right on the Royal Mile. I recommend a reservation if you’re wanting to sit down and eat, but you can always go up to the bar and find open seating if you’re just wanting a drink. They accommodated me when a party didn’t make their reservation.

The White Hart Inn, established in 1516, is one of the oldest and most historical pubs in Edinburgh. It has a reputation for being haunted and claims to be the city's oldest pub. The pub has hosted famous historical figures such as Robert Burns, William Wordsworth, and even murderers Burke and Hare. Visitors can enjoy live music nights, real ales, Scottish food, and gluten-free beer from Bellfield Brewery located nearby.
✨️Possibly the most haunted 👻 pub in Edinburgh. Just the city or as a whole, not sure ! We are both from Exeter in the very South of England so we have a gair few haunted pubs ourselves ! It's interior certainly gives you spooky vibes ! As soon as you walk in, even though it's filled with patrons from all over, you certainly get a feeling of the history of the place. We only stopped for drinks, again a very busy place so make sure you go early ? Or late?! Bar lady with blonde hair who served us was really lovely and made sure we got our drinks when it was super busy ! It's definitely worth a visit if you're in to your history.

We had a great time at The White Hart Inn, the most ancient tavern in Edinburgh! The energy was fantastic—perfect for a couples drink. My wife enjoyed a lovely glass of Merlot, while I sampled a few different ales, all of which were delicious. The rich history of the place adds to the charm, and we can’t wait to come back to try the whisky

Zero rating on food as we only enjoyed drinks. That being said , after many many steps we were in need of refreshments and decided the White Hart was the spot. Its a cracking little pub , full of character and large outdoor seating area in the square. I chose the Belhaven Belter lager , cool & crisp. Great location for people watching and enjoying some afternoon sun. Will definitely return on our next visit to Edinburgh

I had the best haggis I've ever tasted here! I can still vividly recall the flavor every time I think about this pub. The potato and carrot mash were incredibly creamy, and the Haggis just melted in my mouth. The schnitzel with chips was also delicious, crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. They have an excellent selection of beers and ciders, and the atmosphere in the pub was fantastic. I can’t wait to come back!

Made a reservation in advance, got the worst table in the pub, that was very poorly cleaned right before us. Beer is okay.. the prices aren’t displayed on the menu. The whole staff has a very “this is just my job” attitude, zero friendliness or a single smile. As for the food… please do NOT order the food, it’s so mediocre. I make better mac and cheese at home, the side salad had old salad leaves in it… the haggis was bland and tasteless.. since we had something to do afterwards we didn’t complain and ate what we could. Maybe it’s our mistake, that we can’t tell a tourist trap from a normal pub. The toilets are a disaster, water (we hope) all over the mens bathroom floor. Also don’t feel the best stomach wise after eating:). Many better places in Edinburgh, don’t waste your money here.

Found this place late at night while out bar hopping. Had an excellent musician playing, kept the crowd entertained. Good drink selection, cool atmosphere.

Had a lovely meal here. Alex, a wonderful blonde lady, was fabulous at helping my friend and I pick out what to eat and drink. At the end of the night, we were joking we wish Alex would ditch her shift to hang out with us. She was great, if you have her while there, ask for her recommendations. The pea soup and the veggie haggis were delicious. The sticky toffee was also a delight. Alex recommended to have that with custard and wouldn't you know, she was right again. I would go back.

Fantastic experience! The food and service were both excellent. I tried haggis for the first time and absolutely loved it — full of flavor and surprisingly delicious. The steak was also cooked perfectly. We went for the lunch courses, and it was great value for the quality and portion size. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Scottish food and friendly service!

We had a lovely meal at Howie's on our recent trip to Edinburgh. The 2-course special was an excellent value with your choice of either a starter and a main, or a main and a dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the chicken supreme, but the Scottish Salmon was incredible. Our party also raved over the venison & beet root casserole. The venison was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender! An outstanding meal and excellent service. We world definitely return on our next excursion to Edinburgh.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Howies Scottish Restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, beautifully presented, and full of authentic Scottish flavor. My nephew wishes to try the traditional Scottish food in his first time visit to Edinburgh. This restaurant is so popular that we almost lost the hope in getting a table 24hrs before. Thanks to the reception lady we are finally here. We tried the Haggis, Cullen skink, Venison casserole, beef cheeks, and the Toffee cake. He loves the food especially the haggis🤣. The restaurant is welcoming and crowded. Thanks to the happy staff that gave us a good dining experience.

Mature couple Lunch at 1pm. We have luched at the other Howies so we’re keen to give this a go. Welcome was a bit lack luster. Charming waitress took our drinks order. Wine and a bottle of larger whilst we browsed the menu. I ordered the haggis as a starter. OH had a bread side. OH and I were not keen on the bread. The haggis starter was disappointing. Its soggy. Presentation was poor with the haggis partly plopped on top of the swede. If your used to a traditional haggis meal then this is not for you. Also its served with gravy, not sure about that, real odd. For the mains OH had the venison. It was a really poor version of what was served at the last Howies Victoria Street 2 years ago. It was way over cooked and mushly like it had been siting in a pot for a while so much so most of the gravy was gone. OH struggled to finish this. I wanted to send it back. Have posted up the picure of the last venison two years ago and the one today. Three lady diners at a table to my left also had the venison. They didn’t finish. IMHO this shouldn’t have left the kitchen. I had the marinated chicken..it was a bit dry. It was grilled but I wouldn’t have said it was marinated. OH ordered a cappuccino. Took ages to come. Id say the service was a bit poor. I am somewhere between a 2 and 3 on Howies. it was OK. At a cost of £71.35 I have way better in the centre of Edinburgh for lunch and drinks for 2 . Another thing a noticed was that a £1 donation to a charity was added..wasn’t informed about that. It doesnt say thats discretionary. I didn’t pay for the service charge. Place needs a shake up, especially the kitchen.

Howies Restaurant offers a relaxed and convivial dining experience with locally sourced, seasonal dishes. The Waterloo Place location is housed in a beautiful Georgian building flooded with natural light from its tall windows. The restaurant serves traditional Scottish dishes like haggis and pigeon, prepared by friendly and accommodating staff. While the service is fast-paced, the limited seating time may be a consideration for some diners. Overall, it's a good choice for experiencing Scottish cuisine in Edinburgh, especially for a one-time visit.
Great Scottish food, excellent service, good vibe. Haggis, pigeon, soup of the day were all great. House lager was good too. Our only regret is that we were not hungry enough to have the full meal with main courses. We did order desert though, the Banofee pie totally lived up to it's reputation.

Fantastic introduction to Edinburgh and local Scottish cuisine. This was our first meal in town. Haggis was delicious, highly recommended with the scotch pairing. I do not say this often, especially about salads, but the heritage tomato salad was absolutely to die for. Incredible taste profile, super fresh and the lemon dressing a perfect contrast to the velvety smooth whipped feta. Would come here again just for that salad. Mains were solid: the spinach risotto with crispy basil was great. The ribeye was good but not great - this can be forgiven, considering how good everything else was. (We are from Texas the bar is pretty high on steak.) Classy but not stuffy ambience, attentive service (thanks Alex!), and of course you're dining on one of the most photogenic streets in the world. The early dining 2-course pricing is quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. We will be back!

First meal in Scotland and it did not disappoint! Great shop for lunch, went right when it opened. Had the Cullen Skink, the Haggis and both were delicious. The Pesto Salmon risotto was wonderful as well. Great place!

Such a cozy Scottish restaurant with a really warm atmosphere. The staff were lovely and welcoming. They patiently explained the menu and gave us great recommendations. I really enjoyed the haggis; it was a delicious taste of traditional Scottish flavour. The grass-fed Scottish beef ribeye (35-day matured) was grilled perfectly to medium rare, just as we ordered, tender and full of flavour. The banoffee pie was also amazing, with just the right amount of sweetness, and everything balanced beautifully. The dessert wine paired so well it might have even outshone the dessert itself! Definitely a place worth coming back to.

We went to this restaurant and I am glad we did! We got the 2 courses offer for 20£ which is a fair deal. We order for starters the traditional haggis which was amazingly good and the chicken pate which I didn't like. The main courses were the venison casserole and the chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli, both delicious. The staff was kind and attentive. A reservation is required if you want to find a table!

Outstanding food and service! What a very luxurious meal this was. The staff made us feel special when we walked in. We had reservations for dinner and had a nice table, great ambiance. My husband and friend ordered the seasonal cocktails the elderflower and cucumber spirits. We were served complimentary bread and dips, so good. We started with the heritage tomato salad which had this delicious whipped vegan feta cheese, radishes and onions. My friend and I had the catch of the day which was Scottish salmon that was pan seared, a potato and some beans. We also had vegan haggis as a starter, very tasty. Husband enjoyed the artisan hot chocolate. A very flavorful, decadent meal.

We visited Edinburgh for a theatre trip and booked online. The staff are accommodating and professional. We ordered main and dessert. The staff explained as we had not ordered starters there may be a 25 minute wait as all meals are cooked freshly. The food arrived within time and was delicious. They offer a soup of the day and a fresh catch of the day which varies on the menu. Staff also happy to discuss popular dishes on the menu and recommendations of favourites of theirs. Low lighting is used in the restaurant for a cosy atmosphere but unlike most restaurants who use this lighting you can actually see and it brings a peaceful feel to the meal.

The restaurant boasts an extensive cocktail list, wine, craft beer, and an impressive selection of over 300 malts to sample. In addition to its dining area, Whiski Rooms features a bar and shop where visitors can enjoy special whisky tasting experiences.
Get there early if you can, like 6PM or earlier, at least on the weekend. We walked in just after 5:45 and it was a bit empty but shortly later, people were being turned away or wait was 20/30 mins. Call and make a reservation if you can. Food was amazing. We had the haggis spring rolls, hubby had the steak and I had the scotch Steak Pie. Toffee pudding and toffee ice cream. All delicious. The vibe is really nice. Service was good. Kitchen got backed up a bit for dessert time but still had a great time.

We stopped off here at the whiski bar and had a lovely meal for 2. We had the salmon fillet and the house burger. The salmon was a very nice treat, and the burger was top tier, the chips were very nice. I will say however the pepper sauce was £4 extra, which was a lot considering we already ordered a lot of food. Also I think some of the staff could have been a bit nicer and welcoming, as I sometimes found they didn’t even want to help us, and if they are including a service charge for a party if 2, you should at least make the customers feel like it’s deserved. Overall would recommend however

I had an awesome meal at Whiski Rooms in Edinburgh and would totally recommend it. I went for the lamb, and it was cooked perfectly — super tender, full of flavour, and honestly one of the best I’ve had in a while. For dessert I tried the cranachan, and wow… it was amazing. Sweet, creamy, and packed with that fresh berry flavour. The place has a great atmosphere too — cosy, lively, and very “Edinburgh.” Staff were friendly and made everything easy. If you’re looking for a tasty Scottish meal in the city centre, Whiski Rooms is definitely worth a visit!

We visited on Sat 08th Nov 2025 as I had a Cheese & Whisky tasting voucher as a birthday present and we decided to make more out of it by having lunch before the tasting. I confess to having been slightly apprehensive that given the location it would turn out to be a complete “tourist trap venue”, the very opposite was the case, an excellent welcome, service, food and experience from start to finish with reasonable prices given the very central location. The staff are very efficient with greetings and welcoming as you enter, no hanging around looking for tables etc. The ambience is superb with stunningly tasteful décor on a whisky theme of old advertising posters etc.our table was good for people watching and gave a good view over Princes St and the Xmas set up. For lunch we both had the Chicken & Avocado sandwich, this was truly excellent a good sized, very light and fluffy Ciabatta with plenty of nicely warm juicy grilled Chicken, Avocado slices and mayonnaise and a generous portion of fresh green leaves on the side. Our side of chips was freshly made, crisp on the outside and fluffy indoors – definitely moreish! We rounded this of with decaff coffees, nicely sized, lovely flavoursome coffee which is not true of many fresh decaffs. Drinks – we restrained ourselves to fresh orange and lemonade with a whisky/wine tasting to look forward to. The portions and settings we saw heading for other diners looked generous and very well presented. The tasting itself was an exquisite example of hospitality, professionalism and attention to detail. We really appreciated the alternative of arranging to provide wines for my wife who doesn’t do whisky, these complimented the cheeses beautifully, full marks to the chap who made the selections. We did call in beforehand and discuss if this could be done. This was an experience to remember and savour and that goes for the cheeses as well, the portions of which were not mean. The four cheeses, all sourced from IJ Mellis consisted of Cheddar, Isle of Mull Cheddar, Connage and Strathearn Blue, these were beautifully fresh, served at spot on room temperature and were good sized portions. They were paired, in order, with Glencadam (very light), my favourite Tomatin (rich sherry notes), Glenallachie (Robust!), and the Kilchoman which being islay was fairly Iodine on the nose but only very slightly on tasting and just on my tolerance. They did a superb job on the wines, a Hungarian? Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot and lastly a Hungarian Tokai dessert wine which we are definitely going to try and track down, again these worked perfectly with the cheeses subtle and robust in turn and beautifully balanced for flavour. Eleven out of ten to Becky, three days into the job and on her first tasting who did an excellent job of describing the cheeses and whiskies and is an absolute walking encyclopaedia of history and knowledge on the distilleries the whiskies are from, the stills and the production and science of whisky, all presented in a friendly, informative and informal way. Thoroughly recommended as a venue just for food or for a tasting – we now have an excellent additional venue to go to with visitors.

We came to the restaurant as soon as we finished the Scotch Whiskey Experience - we desperately needed food to absorb the 5 small whiskies we tried. Staff was really friendly and it wasn’t busy. We ordered soup for the day (potato and leak) with bread and Confit duck and pork terrine with whiskey prune relish - this was very flavourful. For main we ordered chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon with mash, and beef casserole with mushroom and vegetables!- again very delicious.

This charming and comfortable restaurant inside the Scotch Whisky Experience is a wonderful place. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and service throughout our dinner was exceptional. Both my husband and I got a 2-course meal. We started with the sea trout, which was very fresh and perfectly cooked. It was served with a potato cake, and fresh peas with fennel and a lovely white sauce. The dish was beautifully composed and presented. My husband had a 15-year-old whiskey, while I had lovely craft whiskey cocktail. For dessert, I had the chocolate whiskey tart and my husband had the sticky toffee pudding. Both were excellent. A perfect dining experience.

This was the best dinner we had in our Scotland tour. Since it's very well known, I feared it would be some tourist trap. Far from it, we loved the decor and the service. We booked this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend, the honorary president of the Seville Academy of Gastronomy and Tourism. Located beneath a whisky museum with hundreds of references, Amber offers a well-structured menu. For the main course, we went traditional with haggis, neeps and tatties. As a starter, we chose a dish with a nod to our home — they serve Scottish tapas, which was a pleasant surprise. We finished with a classic sticky toffee pudding, just as tradition demands. A well-rounded and flavourful experience in the heart of Edinburgh.

Amber Restaurant, Edinburgh – A Dream You’ll Want to Stay In Have you ever had a dream you wished you’d never wake from? Or woken only to realize you were still dreaming? Or stepped into a museum that swept you into the past, as though you were living a life beyond your own? It may sound like fantasy, but for whisky lovers, Amber is where dreams manifest. You might need a few pinches to believe it: one of Edinburgh’s finest whisky experiences sits modestly tucked beneath the whisky shop façade of Amber Restaurant. To the casual passerby, it’s just a storefront. But descend into the basement, and you’ll uncover a treasure trove—a library of liquid gold telling Scotland’s stories one dram at a time. With over 500 expressions laid out to tempt the curious and the connoisseur alike, Amber’s collection feels infinite. The digital catalogue is a whisky-lover’s delight, letting you search by label, region, tasting notes—whatever suits your inquiry. It's brilliantly accessible, whether you’re new to the dram or deep into your journey. And whisky is only the beginning. The culinary offerings are every bit as phantasmagorical as the libations they accompany. I highly recommend the Taste of Scotland menu—a worry-free, expertly paired exploration that caters to both the curious and the open-minded. There’s also an à la carte menu that allows you to shape your own experience and craft a truly memorable meal. What elevates Amber beyond its exceptional food and drink is its people. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to share their passion and stories. We arrived 30 minutes early and were welcomed without hesitation. Every interaction felt personal, and the ambiance they created—through kindness and knowledge—was something I hadn’t felt anywhere else in Edinburgh. Whether it’s your first visit to the city or your final evening on the town, I wholeheartedly encourage you to surrender to the enchantment of Amber. Teuchters Landing is a charming pub located in the popular shore area of Leith. It's housed in an attractive stone building that was once a ferry terminal, adding to its historical charm. The pub offers a wide selection of whiskies and beers, making it a great spot for enthusiasts.
First time in Edinburgh and first time eating at Teuchters Landing. Reservations cannot be made, you just walk up to see if they have space, which they did in our case. We were a party of 8. You order and pay all your food and drinks through an app. It’s also possible to order and pay at the bar. Food was brought out pretty quickly and the service was friendly. All in all a very good experience.

Our first meal in Edinburgh and it’s so incredibly delicious. Possibly the best beef stew I’ve ever had. The seafood was really well handled as well. First time trying a Cullen skink, so good! There’s also a great variety of drinks to choose from. Additionally, the location was really lovely, the staffs were friendly and the food was served pretty fast.

As an independent estate and letting agent, I love to support the businesses in the local area I work. Teuchters Landing is an excellent example of a local business that attracts locals, those working nearby and tourists too ... and for good reason. The food and drinks are excellent, the service is great and the general atmosphere is welcoming to all. Highly recommended and one venue I regularly recommend to people moving into the area.

Absolutely fantastic local venue. The food, drinks and atmosphere are fantastic every time, the staff are super accommodating for a walk in venue and have always managed to find us a table. They are also super dog friendly which is a huge bonus. The outdoor seating under the fair lights is wonderful and they have heaters and blankets for the winter. The spicy margs are also amazing!

Very good local pub with friendly staff. The food is great, tasty with huge portions, and served really quick. Lots of different rooms and big outdoor space.

Leith area does not offer much to see but some good venues to visit. We were lucky to find this restaurant&bar just before their kitchen closed. The waitress pushed us to be hurry but we choose two of the best foods from their menu which were calamari and fish&chips. They don't offer various beer options so we choosed 2 different IPAs which were good enough. Atmosphere is really nice to spend time with your friends. Prices are similar to most of the Edinburgh bars.
Hüseyin E — Google review
We sat at the bridge, with a nice view of the river. The food and drinks are ordered via app, which did not work at first. After the ordering worked the food got served really quick. Even quicker than the drinks. I would suggest you dress warmer when you have to sit outside as it was quite windy.
Lukas S — Google review
Hip dockside pub with elevated pub food and a very decent beer selection. Their QR code ordering system has its quirks (we were delivered the wrong beer) but otherwise the people are call and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. Like the tourists we are, we even had a whisky flight in the main bar after dinner - great fun.

Historical landmark
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Edinburgh on Candlemaker Row, Greyfriars Bobby's Bar is a charming establishment steeped in history. This traditional pub, housed within a Georgian building since 1893, offers an inviting atmosphere where visitors can enjoy cask ales and delicious pub fare. The bar pays homage to the legendary Skye Terrier, Bobby, who famously kept vigil at his owner's grave for 14 years until his own passing in 1872.
Delicious food; an amazing steak and ale pie baked in a flaky crust accented by mashed potatoes and fresh roasted carrots! The seafood pie was also a winner. Outstanding service and a very friendly and engaging staff.

Bobby’s Bar was a great spot to end our trip to Scotland. The food was fantastic. I had the Fish n Chip with fried Shrimp. The tartar sauce had a great pickle base to it. My wife had the Steak Pale Ale pie and thought it was amazing. The pie crust was light and airy and the steak was perfect cooked. 10⭐️’s all around!!!

We only wanted a sandwich but they didn’t have a snack menu. So we had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Lovely busy little pub. Interesting watching the people go by and queue up to have their photos taken with the little Bobby statue. Service was good, friendly staff and reasonably priced.

Maisey and all the girls are amazing. Adam the manager was also fantastic. I came like 4 times in my two week stay and every experience was 10/10. I miss you guys and the food was amazing. Best pub by far in the city centre. Haggis neeps and tatties was better than my grans. (Sorry Gran! RIP!) and the fish and chips were unreal. I’m from Toronto Canada and we have some of the best food and beverage service workers in the world. I was very impressed with all the staff, some of the best in the city . Thanks for everything guys. Adam I’m coming to work for you in May 2026! Pay me in food, no worries lol hopefully see you all before then!!!!! The Canadian Brad Pitt :)

The attraction features a barrel ride showcasing the history of whisky making in Scotland and offers various tour options with nosings and tastings based on individual preferences.
It was a very great experience and a very informative and a wonderful one.🙏 The information on how Whisky is produced , condensed and the process involved in making is just marvellous and beautiful. Our Whisky Experience guide narrated the whole process of Whisky making very much in depth of informative. The video narrative and whole experience was just very amazing and beautifully presented. I would like to applaud and give all the credits to our guide who presented everything beautifully🙏 The art of drinking Whisky also was very well presented 🙏👏 Everything was beautifully shown and presented. 👏🙏👌 I would recommend this as a must visit place for everyone who visits Edinburgh 😊

A very enjoyable and well-done experience for anyone interested in learning about Scotch whisky. The tour was interactive, informative, and thoughtfully designed—it moved at a great pace and kept things interesting throughout. Our presenter was friendly, funny, and engaging, which really added to the whole experience. The shop at the end is also worth a visit, with a great selection of whiskies to choose from. Definitely a recommended stop if you’re in Edinburgh and want to learn more about Scotch whisky in a fun and memorable way.

What a fantastic experience! From the very beginning being greeted in a warm and welcoming way by our brilliant host Archie, we were taken through the history of whisky making in an informative and entertaining way by Archie. Then we were given the opportunity to taste 5 very different whisky styles from across the 5 regions. After that, we saw the Worlds largest unopened whisky bottle collection which was simply stunning! And to finish, we enjoyed a Scottish food tasting experience in the delightful Amber restaurant. The evening was a truly 5* experience! 👍👍

Awesome tour. I like the immersive element and the storytelling of both our guide and then voice over. Also the fact you move to different rooms was appreciated - rather than just standing in one place for an hour. Darcy was brilliant. Great knowledge, led the tour well and created a great space to share. We also did the 3 course dinner after which was also amazing. Highly recommend doing that too.
Jason P — Google review
Although none of us drinks whisky, I still wanted to do the guided tour of the Scottish Whisky Experience because Scotland is known for its whisky, and I enjoy learning about different things. We did the beginner’s Silver Tour, and it was engaging and interactive from start to finish. At the end, you can choose one whisky flavor to sample but you don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to! Be warned though. It’s strong stuff (around 70% alcohol!). Overall, a fun and educational experience, even for non-drinkers.
Hanna J — Google review
Great location near to edinburgh castle. The guide was sooo good and humorous. The processes of making the whisky are explained beautifully . You are also get to see a wonderful collection of whiskys and at the end you can taste a whisky of your choice ( from the regions). Such great fun and informative.
Marcus B — Google review
A highly refined and entertaining show. Much more high tech than I expected. I went in knowing basically nothing about it and left feeling like I have some knowledge about whiskey making and different parts of Scotland that give you different flavors. That was actually pretty true. Also the alcohol offerings at the end are pretty reasonable and they have a really nice selection. The collection was also super impressive.
Robert C — Google review
Well worth an obligatory visit whilst in Edinburgh, as a novice to whiskey I opted for the Silver tour just to tour and try the 1. Also visited the very nice Amber Bar downstairs that's worth a visit after if not too busy. The barman is excellent and will find you one to your taste.

The Last Drop is a charming pub located in Grassmarket, near the haunted Greyfriars Kirkyard. It offers a variety of real ales and Scottish dishes, making it an ideal spot for a drink day or night. The pub's name is derived from its proximity to the old execution site rather than from any drinking-related story. The establishment is known for providing unlimited tea or coffee with every brunch or main menu dish, making it an affordable dining option.
Had a good meal here! Of course had the haggis and got the loaded chips. Got the appetizer size of both and it was definitely enough food. Both were very good. Staff was great, gave me tasters of beer before I ordered one. It's a busy place but we got a table straight away and food comes out quickly. Great place for good traditional Scottish food.

It’s a pub so not going crazy with this review. The service is mediocre. The loaded crispy chips are fantastic. The Asian sticky chicken thighs were really good as well. Beers on tap were solid. Interesting theme to say the least. Haha

Visited July 2025 Had the starter Haggis Neep Tatties to see what Scottish food is about (not my kind of food sorry) Bacon and cheese burger though was excellent. The Piper Fish Supper (fish and chips) were excellent. Crispy flakey haddock and the chips were soft on the inside and crunch on the outside. The Steak Pie was savory and flaky. Mash was traditional and very good as well. The gravy finished the dish well. Portions were very filling. Service was great. Atmosphere was great. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

A restaurant and a pub serving great selection of whiskies, beers, wines and cocktails. The food selection is also abundant but unfortunately we came too late for their Sunday special Sunday roast (sold out). We had piper feast appetizer (variety of appetizers) and a bread bowl of Cullen skink. The food was better than average and the “pub” atmosphere adds to our fun dinner experience.

We had to wait 30 minutes for a table to open up but it was absolutely worth it!! We had the mince & tatties ( incredible!), steak pie (very good & tasty flaky crust), haggis appetizer (Americans so had to try it and it was surprisingly delicious and presented beautifully), cauliflower & broccoli pie (also delicious). We also ordered two desserts - fried mars bar and sticky toffee pudding (both were perfect!) Our service with James P was excellent. Highly recommend even if you have to wait to be seated.

The 30’ waiting time was worth it! The food was so fresh and delicious, we had the “Cullen skink”(creamy soup in a toasted bread with an incredible smoked fish), salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes (perfectly cooked), steak pie with grilled vegetables and fries. Besides the incredible food they have a great variety of beers and drinks. The atmosphere was amazing as well as the service.

The wait was surprisingly short, as walk-ins were able to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink while waiting for a table. Our table was ready quickly, and I appreciated how attentive the staff was in making sure guests were seated in the order they arrived. The food was excellent overall—although they had run out of the salmon that evening, the steak pie more than made up for it. Absolutely delicious!

Very casual place for a burger and a pint. Burger was ok, nothing special. I got the classic. I was expecting more flavor from the patty but it was a bit dry. The fries were delcious and crunchy. Otherwise, still had a good meal. Staff was very friendly, welcoming, and kind of enough to provide hot sauce.

This was our first restaurant experience while visiting Edinburgh. It was a weekend night. The place is kinda small. They were expecting a group of people so they stuck us in a corner. We ordered our food and drinks. Once we got them, we never saw a waitress again. We got up to pay at the bar. Food was good. Service was ok.

When on a Sunday once. Food was fine but awful service from the one staff that was there. Since it was quite early, myself and a friend were the only ones there but this member of staff clearly did not want to be there. When asked about beers on tap, they were impatient and we caught them rolling their eye at us when we chatted to each other which felt quite bad. Food was good but I would definitely not go back.

Great food, excellent selection of craft beers and warm, friendly staff. The only slight hiccup was that their phone isn’t working, so I couldn’t get through to amend our booking when we were late. However, the staff were very apologetic and we were seated immediately. Will happily visit again next time we’re in Edinburgh!

Genuinely one of the best gastropubs I’ve been to. We went on a quiet Monday night, our first evening in Edinburgh. Sam and Freya were so friendly and made us feel right at home with good banter and fantastic suggestions. The meal itself was great. We ordered two burgers which came with a generous serving of salad and fries. Surprisingly good price too. The burger was amazing; juicy, absolutely full of food and cooked to perfection. Halfway House is a compact local pub in Edinburgh that offers a rotating selection of cask ales and craft beers along with bar meals. Tucked away at the base of Fleshmarket Close, it's considered to be the city's original tiny pub. The cozy and characterful bar is adorned with railway memorabilia and boasts just 14 seats, making it one of the smallest pubs in Edinburgh.
I found this place while wandering Edinburgh and made a note to stop in one night. On my last night in the city, I made true to my word and stopped by for a couple glasses of scotch. The pub is small, quiet, and very cozy which makes it the perfect place to sit and enjoy a couple of drinks by yourself or with a couple of mates. The service was top-notch and I enjoyed sitting at the bar chatting with a Canadian couple who were visiting as well as having a long conversation with the barman about scotch whiskies. Overall, this was a fabulous place that I would highly recommend popping into while in Edinburgh.

Great little "hidden" pub. People don't generally tend to stop here and if they do, there isn't much room. But if you get a seat or a table, the staff are great and very friendly. The beers on tap are decent and at a good price too, considering it's in the middle of town. Great quirky little pub halfway up the close!

We stopped here for lunch, and it was a great stop! The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The venue was packed, so there weren’t any free tables to sit and eat, but we managed to grab a spot at the bar tables, which worked out just fine. What really stood out was the vibrant ambiance, there was live music playing, which added so much to the overall vibe. It was a hot day in Edinburgh, we were just passing by and popped in for a drink. Even though we weren’t ordering anything but drinks we’ve been brought some snacks. 😯 The prices are very high (5£ for a glass of juice), but the service is at par. 👍 Very caring staff; also my husband said he’s got the best aperol spritz he’d ever tried. “Even better than the one he makes himself” - and that’s the best compliment I’ve ever heard from him 😊 So I believe it was very good 👍

Went here for lunch today, and it was such a wonderful experience from start to finish! Firstly, the staff are incredibly friendly, smiley and accommodating and you could tell they were genuinely happy to be there. The service was seamless, I enjoyed every second of my visit. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and they were more than able to accommodate my needs as a coeliac diner. I honestly could not fault it and I will recommend to anyone and everyone to visit here when in Edinburgh! Also the building and decor is gorgeous, it was such a special dining experience that I will remember for a very long time. I even had my first oyster! Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much Brasserie Prince and the wonderful staff!! P.S our server was right, the creme brûlée is absolutely to die for!!

A truly exquisite experience , I visited on my birthday and I received a beautiful birthday dessert with personal touches. Made me feel special. Staff are very highly trained on services, nothing was too much for them. I highly highly recommend the French onion soup. I don’t like French onion soup, but wow this was out of this world. I went back 2 weeks later for more of the soup as I craved it after tasting it. Food is absolutely divine, full of flavour. I also recommend the haggis neeps and tatties, especially if you want to taste the Scottish cuisine. My favourite restaurant for both the soup and haggis.

I never write bad reviews because I know everyone is trying their best but this was truly a disappointing experience. We are visiting from Canada for an anniversary) something we noted when we booked but never acknowledged but that was the least of the issues. From the start it was a service disaster. She took our bread plates without offering bread. Forgot we ordered cocktails before our wine and brought and poured the wine and then remembered our cocktails. Didn’t offer to have us taste the wine. Brought our soup (which was cold) still before brining our cocktails. When she finally brought the cocktails she brought the wrong mix not once But twice. Finally when we got all that sorted and hoped for the best our mains (steak) and they were cold and un seasoned. Finally when it was all thankfully done we sat and waited 20 mins for anyone to get us a bill. I’ve never had such a let down experience and was very much looking forward to dinner tonight.

Great spot on a map. Brilliant service, incredible one! I have ordered few stuff. In general all good. Greens in my sea bass dish were not amusing. I would say pretty bad. Can’t say enough good things about my meal here. I finally got to have gluten free beer 11 days into my trip to the UK and was so thrilled. There are so many gluten free food options on the menu as well. The hostess let me pick where I wanted to sit which I loved (I did come in at 8 pm on a Tuesday but still), and then to boot, shared a list of the gluten free beers they have as well as recommendations for other gluten free friendly restaurants in Edinburgh which meant the world to me. I would also recommend the chef’s risotto and I enjoyed each of the drinks I ordered (Campervan Leith Juice, classic hot toddy, and Moscatel de Setubal). As a bonus, where I was sitting gave me the opportunity to listen as the kitchen staff worked and hearing the way the chef talked to and takes care of the staff at Hot Toddy was absolutely amazing. Truly a top notch experience that I can’t thank them enough for!

They prepared cheese boards for 60 people and these went down a treat with everyone! The venue itself is very well decorated, warm and comfortable.

This place is an absolute gem! Our meals were delicious. Generous portions. Excellent quality. Service was fantastic, staff very friendly. Nice atmosphere. We ordered the bread and dips to start, followed by the rib eye, scotch egg and 2 glasses of wine. Best to make a booking. Highly recommend!!

Sea bass and venison were excellent. Stuffed peppers were a fantastic vegetarian option. We finished the meal with a scotch flight tasting. Each whisky was well-explained and we had a good time comparing tasting notes. Prices were quite reasonable for being just off the Royal Mile.

This place is truly beautiful and so green as the plants are everywhere, including the bathroom. The waitresses were attentive, kind, and happy to help. I enjoyed flat white with friends with an alternative oat and coconut milk. All off was great, but the best was whiskey tasting with Max 😋 We absolutely loved our 2 hours experience with lovely decorated tables.

Restaurant
Angels with Bagpipes is a stylish Scottish fine dining restaurant located in a 16th-century building at the heart of Old Town on the Royal Mile. The lush decor and decidedly Scottish cuisine, made with fresh local ingredients, create an intimate atmosphere for diners. The restaurant offers two separate dining rooms, each providing a distinct experience. Additionally, outdoor seating allows guests to enjoy people-watching while savoring dishes like 12-hour braised beef with potatoes.
Located in a touristy area, but don’t be discouraged. The food here is excellent. The servers worked as a team and were awesome. We had numerous small plates and a dessert. I also supposed multiple scotches which were well priced for that area. Will be going here again during this trip.

Walked in without a reservation and was able to get a table. As a solo diner I found it to be a great atmosphere and vibe! Staff was super friendly and helpful. The food was truly delicious! Would not hesitate to come again! Great place to share a bunch of small plates with friends!

Really friendly staff and outstanding service from the minute we walked in. Was warmly greeted and taken to our table straight away. We had prebooked which I would recommend if you are fancy where you sit. Food was of a very high standard and not too expensive but also not cheap. Good selection of small tapas like plates.

First visit into the city and was taken to angels with bagpipes and it didn’t disappoint. We tried a few small plates including the haggis bonbons, which I’ve never had before, plus steak and chips. All the food was lovely and good service. Sat outside as it was busy so would recommend booking in advance but was a lovely evening sitting outside and eating. Highly recommend visiting if you would like a special meal out.

Came here for lunch with my wife before heading to Murrayfield on my 60th birthday. We had 5 of the small dishes between us and honestly i couldn’t fault any of them. However I would say the one dish you must order is the Haggis bon bons they are heavenly, even if you think you don’t like haggis these are fantastic. The staff are really friendly and efficient. Great experience really enjoyed the food will be back next time we’re in Edinburgh. Well done Angels with Bagpipes

The restaurant is nice but the waitress (the one standing by the door) - her attitude was horrible. The foods took really long time. Taste ok.

Incredible scottish food.. Staff so wonderful and welcoming. Food was sublime. Haggis is a mustr try and the chicken breast, never saw it plated better anywhere else. Must try place when in Edinburgh!

We were hunting for a restaurant that served some good vegetables and we're so lucky to find this with some seating. In fact, we got the last bar seats available during Fringe Fest — otherwise it was fully booked up with reservations for the rest of the night! Not only that, but the food was excellent. Veggies cooked to perfection, the most tender fried chicken I've tasted. I actually gasped when I took my first bite. Just excellent. And they were very willing to accommodate preferences, e.g. they made my dishes without hot sauce. Would fo again.

Steak house
Seafood restaurant
Wildfire is a small family-run steak restaurant located in Edinburgh New Town, offering locally-sourced beef and seafood in an intimate setting with wood and bare stone decor. The menu features juicy cuts of prime Aberdeen Angus beef from Scottish border herds, including ribeye, sirloin, and fillet options at reasonable prices.
The fire is wild, yet here it bows to mastery. Each dish is a testament to precision and passion. The ribeye—grilled to a perfect medium—was tender beyond expectation, its flavor deep, rich, and beautifully balanced. A true masterpiece on a plate. The supporting cast was no less extraordinary: • The prawns — succulent, perfectly seasoned, unforgettable. • The scallops — seared to golden perfection, delicate and divine. • The cheesecake — light, creamy, and sinfully good. There are few words left, other than a heartfelt thank you. You didn’t just serve a meal — you made my day. I’ll be back, without question.

Fabulous! My husband and his friend had steak, which they said was cooked to perfection. The Shetland mussels (in cider and shallot cream) were absolutely beautiful. Good wine selection too. Quaint, cozy little place, booking is advisable therefore. Excellent service. Highly recommend!!

Highly recommended! We had a wonderful dinner at Wildfire — the skewer was delicious, the sea bream perfectly cooked, and the local beer really tasty. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, and the service extremely friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

We had such a great dinner at Wildfire. My husband had the rib-eye steak and said it was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I had the prawn main, which was super fresh and tasted amazing, and the rocket salad on the side was a perfect match. For dessert, I had the best baked cheesecake I’ve ever had, and my husband enjoyed his sticky toffee pudding. Service was genuinely friendly from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Such a wonderful surprise! The steak was really good and the mussels/shrimp were delicious. Service was outstanding (thanks to Bea) and the vibe was just what we wanted. The desserts were fantastic but I recommend the sticky toffee pudding. Will be back!!!!

A steak restaurant in a cozy setting serving Scottish beef and seafood. I arrived without reservation but was able to be seated. I had the Cullen skink to start, which is a traditional smoked haddock chowder style fish stew and was delighted by how good it was with the smoked fish flavour really coming through. For my main I had the 12oz Ribeye which is also served with a side salad. When it first arrived I was a little underwhelmed by appearance alone but that opinion would soon change. It was seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare and had an appropriate amount of fat and marbling. I have eaten my fair share of higher end steaks - usually dry-aged ribeye - and I have to admit that this was one of the best tasting steaks I've ever had. The dressing on the side salad was good as well, tasting like it was a raspberry and mustard cider vinaigrette. The service was polite, attentive but not overbearing. My expectations were not that high given that the restaurant is located on a strip that is a bit touristy and the pubs and restaurants presumably cater to visitors staying at nearby hotels, but my expectations were exceeded. I found both the food and the service to be excellent.

Nice and cozy restaurant. Gotta say my mum had the mussels and stated that it was the best plate of mussels she ever had. My dad and I enjoyed the filet which was delicious. I can highly recommend this place and will certainly be back 😃

Woah ! This restaurant is a wonderful experience. All was good ! The starter was a mushroom infusion and it was an explosion of flavour ! Then we took the plate and we aren’t on it, all was perfectly cooked ! To end this experience we took some dessert and again WOAH ! The home made ice cream is just crazy. So to resume if you want to have a good moment and eat very well you’re on the right place ! PS : I want to mention that the waitress was excellent, they are really kind and they know exactly what they served.

I really enjoyed it here. The staff were attentive and friendly, and I was offered a beautiful gazpacho on-the-house whilst I perused the menu. I had a beautiful salad with big wedges of nicely seasoned, smoked tofu, poached strawberries and lightly toasted walnuts with a lovely, light chamomile dressing. I also tried the spiced pear punch but I wasn't super keen. I'd love to go back and try some of the other dishes. This was on the more expensive side. I only had a main and a drink which was £23. Most mains were around the £20 mark so I imagine it could quickly rack up.

I had a fantastic meal with my wife on Saturday 8th November. My wife is vegetarian, it was lovely for her to know she could eat anything on the menu. I had the veggie stew with dauphinois and cheese filled dumpling, it was the best vegetarian meal I’ve eaten.

Definitely felt like the food was overpriced for what they served. The quality of ingredients was fresh and good but the flavors weren’t great. I was expecting a lot more and was disappointed with the blend of dishes - there’s potential for more. Between six appetizers and entrees we ordered, the risotto was the one decent dish. The desserts were phenomenal and highly recommend those. Plating for all dishes were amazing and so was the service/ambience.

Super nice employees, cozy place and the food was very good. We ordered the three course meal scared we would still be hungry after just one serving. The portions were a good size and we ended up almost not finishing the dessert because we were so full. Would absolutely come again!

The Royal Mile Tavern is a traditional Scottish pub located in the bustling area where Newington meets The Royal Mile. Despite being busy, it offers a cozy atmosphere with oak-panelled interiors and live local musicians every night. The pub serves iconic Scottish dishes like haggis and offers a British menu along with craft ales. Additionally, it's known for its Scottish breakfast and stays open until 9:00 pm for kitchen service followed by nightly live music from 10:00 pm.
Wry nice tavern, awesome decoration and super friendly staff. The ambiance itself is already worth a visit, the selection of whiskey was great and they had a handful of really tasty ales on tap. We also had a fried mars bars which was spot on. Can’t say much about the regular menu as we were there for the drinks. Despite Fringe happening and booming the town the tavern folks were in great spirits and extremely welcoming and friendly.

We loved it here. The staff was so accommodating to our requests to switch from bar to dining seating. We ended up ordering 2 fabulous glasses of wine. My husband had the BBQ messy pig beef burger. I had the Cullen skink. Both were delicious. The live music was AMAZING. Loved this pub while visiting Scotland.

We were visiting Edinburgh for a day and wanted a traditional Scottish pub for dinner. This was located in the Royal mile and had lots history associated with it. It was also well rated. We are a family of 8 and initially, the hostess said that the kitchen was closing soon & they couldn’t provide dinners. It was also very busy and we lucked out that there was a table that freed up. We were able to order our dinners and they were delicious. I was searching for scotch eggs and they offered it on their menu. Our server was very nice. We enjoyed the ambiance.

One of the good spots in Edinburgh that you will enjoy several types of beers, whiskeys and bites from the traditional Scottish cuisine. While you’re exploring the city, it’s really worth to stop by and enjoy your drinks and bites! Great atmosphere with the options sitting indoor or outdoor.

I was looking for a traditional Scottish meal. This place had everything I was looking for. Started with Cullen Skink. Which was very good and served with two pieces of bread. On the plates were served with a little extra done to present properly.

Whether you are looking for a great spot for a pint or wanting some local food, don’t skip out on the Royal Mile Tavern.

I absolutely loved the food and the overall vibe of the place—it was a great experience! That said, the service was noticeably slow; I waited nearly 30 minutes just to pay, which felt longer than usual. Still, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and the friendly attitude of the staff made up for it. I’d definitely come back.

Definitely a higher end meal. We went for Sunday roast and while delicious the portions were quite small and the price was considerable. This is the place to go for a more luxurious experience. The atmosphere is posh and proper, dignified and elegant. The food matches the atmosphere. Selecting a unique cocktail was a noteworthy highlight of the visit. Absolutely consider Monteiths if you’re in need of a romantic date night idea or celebrating a milestone.

We were visiting from the US and were determined to find a great place for drinks and haggis. Never in my life would I have imagined I’d love their haggis so much that I wanted to go back the very next day! The blood pudding with scallops was also absurdly good and the smoked salmon was such a treat! Great cocktail selection and incredibly friendly and helpful staff ❤️

Absolutely loved this place. Excellent atmosphere, tremendously friendly staff. Food was excellent - we had the scallops, smoked salmon and roast salmon. Slightly slow service but otherwise perfect.
Alex M — Google review
Overall great experience for a good (if not great) price. Atmosphere was dark and moody, almost like a Scottish version of a Guillermo del Toro film. Really inventive pairings of flavours (beetroot and pork belly? Scallop and pea with black pudding?) that all worked really well. Pork belly was incredible (beet had a nice sweet pairing to the almost-BBQ like sauce, textural contrast from crackling and a sweet acidic highlight from an orange jelly) but the scallop starter was my favourite (two small but very tender scallops seared lightly on beautiful black pudding with notes of cloves and nutmeg, peas with herbs as a base). It was light but very complex and a wonderful unexpected pairing of flavours. My wife’s lamb was fantastic in flavour but the temperature was a bit high for our liking, would have been better 20 degrees less cooked. Lemon posset was a great finale with a raspberry sorbet and textural element from oats. Very kind and funny waitstaff, would definitely come back next time we’re in Scotland.

Couldn't have been better if we'd tried! What an absolute gem of a restaurant. The food. The foooooooood! It was *chef's kiss*. Literally. The serving staff were delightfully charming, and the atmosphere is simply perfect. I could see myself hiding down there on a cold winter's night. Do yourself a favour and get the haggis starter. You won't find better haggis anywhere, I can promise you that. It was just perfection. Slightly peppery, topped with a sauce of happiness. You can't go wrong. And the filet was divine. It comes with the best fried potato I've ever had. Full stop. Just get in here and enjoy. Oh and get the paloma. It's decadent but light and refreshing all at the same time.

Fantastic and decadent place for breakfast. They have gluten free options which was wonderful and the coffees were great. The place is spacious and bright thanks to the wall to wall windows, considerate decor, and clean! Service was considerate and quick and the food just seemed so lavish! Loudons is the kind of breakfast spot that makes you want to linger a little longer than planned. The atmosphere is modern and airy, with big windows that make even a rainy Edinburgh morning feel bright. Service was friendly and attentive, and the menu had a great balance of hearty classic options. I went for their full vegetarian breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. Everything on the plate tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Prices are fair for the generous portions and high-quality ingredients. This might be a strange note but I appreciated how big and spacious their bathrooms are. You don’t usually find this in other restaurants in Edinburgh. Whether you’re after a relaxed weekend brunch or a solid breakfast before exploring the city, this is a great choice.

Jutamas T — Google review
As a local resident and long time customer of Loudons, it pains me to post a negative review, however over the last few years this place has become massively overpriced and implemented some pretty dodgy practices. It's clearly aiming for the tourist market where people are either unaware that they are being fleeced or otherwise won't be return customers anyway. The food is generally very good with quality, fresh ingredients however there is a distinct lack of transparency in their pricing and staff that seem to manipulate customers into spending as much as possible. I have held off posting this review after feeling similarly on multiple occasions, due to a love of the food and nostalgia of good memories here, however today was simply the straw that broke the camels back. The below describes today's experience but is pretty representative of a typical visit. Before we were even seated, we were asked if we would like to "start with a coffee" (sometimes it's orange juice). Presuming this would be approximately in line with local prices, my friend and I said yes. We then sat down, received our coffees, ordered a full breakfast each and were asked how we would like our eggs and toast. After enjoying just a breakfast and a coffee each, the bill came and amounted to £44.40 in total. It appears that we were not only charged £5 extra for the toast (total) but £9.40 for two coffees! It would appear that we were given the guest bean coffee without asking and charged 50p for oat milk (which was mentioned on the menu - which we didn't get to see until after we actually had the opportunity to sit down). Enticing customers to order food without first having the opportunity to peruse the menu and not being clear when certain foods are optional extras feels predatory, manipulative and takes advantage of previously loyal customers. Finally, despite massively overpaying for breakfast, the staff had the audacity to provide me a card terminal with various (substantial) options for tips and proceed to stand over me, watching whilst I was making a selection (0%). I'm sorry to say I'll not be returning to Loudons after today's experience. Edinburgh is a great city for eating out and I would encourage anyone else reading this to strongly consider the many great food places nearby before being misled (or outright scammed) by the shady operation that Loudons has become.
Sam G — Google review
Booked a table for brunch on a rugby match day and glad I did as it was super busy with people of the same idea. Service was fast and polite. The coffee was great, I ordered a dirty chai which is risky in places that I’ve never tried before as it is hit or miss but I was satisfied with it. My sister had the veggie breakfast and felt like it was a good portion for her and good tasting alternatives to meat. I had the tiramisu french toast and it was absolutely unbelievable. The best french toast I’ve ever had, lovely texture of crunchy on the outside soft in the middle and did not get soggy over the course of eating it. The sweet ricotta and cream was paired beautifully.

Cannonball Restaurant & Bar in Edinburgh is a must-visit dining spot that offers stunning views of the city's famous castle. Housed in a former keeper's lodge, the restaurant prides itself on sourcing all its ingredients from Scottish suppliers, including produce from their own kitchen garden. The menu features signature dishes like haggis cannonballs and red mullet, showcasing the best of Scotland's natural larder.
Came to Edinburgh for the day and visited this wonderful restaurant. The staff were polite and attentive however the real winner was the food. I had the haggis starter then beef, my partner the smoked trout then risotto. Would very highly recommend the smoked trout and the beef. We were sat by the window with lovely views of the castle. Thank you for rounding off a lovely trip

Located in Old Town on the Royal Mile, Cannonball Restaurant and Bar is one of my favourite restaurants in all of Edinburgh. This historical landmark was originally built in the 17th century and has unique views of the castle with an old meets new interior. The restaurant is clean and offers a relaxed atmosphere which offers comfort food meets fine dining experience, and plenty of seating options on three different levels – bar, restaurant and private dining area. We happened to stop in after a visit to Edinburgh Castle and I am so glad we did - this place is a gem! We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. The customer service was 5-star with friendly and attentive staff. The price was very reasonable for what we got: the portion sizes good, the presentation amazing, and the food was fresh and prepared to perfection. They offer a comprehensive menu with different dining options and were able to accommodate a reduced salt diet. Everything on the menu that we had was incredible delicious including: fresh homemade bread and whipped butter, creamy potato soup, smoked trout with creme fraiche, battered haddock with hand cut fries, pan seared cod with spinach and Beurre Blanc, Chocolate Cannonball and crème brulée. They also had an extensive bar and selection of wines to choose from. Two unique features of this restaurant are the cannonball lodged in the wall, the namesake of the restaurant, and an old school desk and ode to its history as a schoolhouse and the resident ghost they call “Alice”. It is also wheelchair accessible with entrance from the courtyard, a lift that accesses all levels including the bathrooms, and plenty of seating options that can easily accommodate a wheelchair. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the food, service and experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and will return to it time and again!

Restaurant is located in a picturesque corner of the Edinburgh Castle entrance. We had one of the best seats in the house with a beautiful view of the castle in the evening. Three different menu options in terms of portions and settings, all of our dinner choices were excellent, and nicely prepared, and nicely presented. The restaurant was not terribly crowded in January, but the staff is very pleasant and it was an enjoyable experience. Being so close to a major tourist attraction one would’ve expected a hurried in and hurried out atmosphere, this was just the opposite. Lovely fine dining experience.

The hop on hop off bus driver recommended this place to us. We said we wanted to go to an authentic Scottish pub. It was the perfect day out, so I was hoping to sit outside, but all the tables were full, so we sat inside upstairs. The service was excellent, very attentive server. I thought the menu was rather limited, but I decided to order the scottish pie. It was decent and comforting, but I felt it was a bit lacking a nd bland. It's not a bad spot, but for reference, I would probably choose somewhere else next time.

We were there between meals, like 3 pm, it was not busy. We had their Cold Town lagger, light. We tasted their Haggis Bonbons, which tasted good, but believe me I could not tell what they were made of, there was a lamb flavor in them. The Auld Hundred steak pie was very good, the steak was tender and flavorful. The fish chips were nicely cooked, the batter was crispy and the fish was fresh. The services were great.

I went on my own and was really impressed by both the food and the service. The wait staff were really contientious about taking care of me, and dinner really was excellent! This is a smaller restaurant above a bar, and I saw them turn away customers because it was so busy and they were booked out (Aug- Fringe and Tattoo in Edinburgh everything books out). Popular place! I would go back

We hadn't booked for dinner, and they said it would be an hour or so, so we sat downstairs at the bar enjoying a few pints while waiting. At the restaurant I had rhe haggis neeps and tatties, which is always a favourite of mine. And here it was amazing. Paired with a few dark good 80 shillings ale. One of the few 80/- Ive found Ive found in rhe city. Also had a whisky. But they were 25cl and felt pricey Will definitely be back!

Felt like you are going into a small pub joint but it is big in the inside with a lot of sitting in their (I think) three story building. We got Auld Hundred steak pie and Traditional scampi supper. They taste great and the portion is just about the right size for a hungry patron.

An average Sunday roast… Came here for Sunday roast but was quite disappointed with the standard of food. The vegetables were bland, the gravy was watery, veggie haggis looked like it had been eaten and excreted before it was put on my plate (see photo for proof). The staff were really nice and at the end of the day I was quite hungry so ate it anyway and it was meh.

The Missus and I along with the boys and GF had our first lovely traditional Sunday roast dinner at The Auld Hundred. The upstairs dining area was not overly roomy but had a tight cozy ambience. Despite being busy, the service was very prompt and efficient. Everyone enjoyed their roast chicken or beef entrees, apple crumble and sticky toffee desserts along with local beers. Will have to visit The Auld Hundred again on our next Edinburgh trip.

Civerinos Hunter Square (the original) is a casual Italian restaurant located near the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. It offers traditional Italian street food with a modern twist, featuring classic family recipes and fresh ingredients. The restaurant is known for its delicious made-to-order sourdough pizzas topped with high-quality ingredients like buffalo mozzarella and spicy Italian sausage. Despite being a relative newcomer to the Edinburgh food scene, Civerinos has garnered rave reviews from both customers and critics.
Really lovely little pizza place. I just went on my own and the staff were very friendly and helpful. 😁 The atmosphere was great, it was comfortably quiet with music in the background which was just loud enough to create a really nice vibe. The food was excellent and served quickly. I took my second half home in a takeaway box and the staff were more than happy to accommodate that.

A great selection of very reasonably priced pizzas at this restaurant. They have specials which sound delicious - definitely ask for these on the day. A wide selection of both meat and vegetarian options. They can add toppings as long as they are already on the menu. Great selection of sides and drinks too. Wonderful service and only a step off the royal mile / high street.

No audio needed for this post! Listen to that pizza base crunch! 🍕🤤 So we tried @civerinos_official yesterday in Edinburgh after dropping my mum off at the airport. We picked the perfect day to sit outside and enjoy our 🍕 And it did not disappoint! We grabbed the civerinos pizza truffle tries with a side of ranch and chipotle mayo 🍕 Pizza rating 9.2/10 high rating for a brilliant pizza. 🍕 it was a great portion and the base of the pizza was beautiful. Everything about the pizza is great! I just wish I had more 😆🤣! The truffle fries went really well together with the pizza. I must admit we used the sauces for the fries alone because the pizza didn't even need a sauce it was that good! 😊 Just heard off a friend that their is one local to me in finnieston so I'll need to check the west end again because their is a few pizza spots I'd love to try 😍 🍕 Shoutout to the team working in the Edinburgh spot! Had multiple deliveries and still had our order quickly and fresh! You guys are amazing 🤩 Have you tried civerinos? Hit yes on the poll in this post if you have!!

We tried Civerinos for a late lunch and were very pleased. We particularly enjoyed the Caesar salad and delicious pizza. Next time we’d probably add more cheese and toppings to our pizza but that’s only because we love toppings. Crust was tender and sauce was not too acidic. We did try the giant mozzarella stick but felt it paled in comparison to the pizza as far as flavors go.
Comede E — Google review
We stopped by to get some pizza at this place and it was absolutely incredible. The crust was very thin, but the flavors were very strong. The cheese just melted in your mouth. I wish they had gluten free options!

A great little find that I would highly recommend. After a day out and before heading off to get our train we popped in for a bite. Everything was perfect. We just had the fries, meatballs and caesar salad but it was all better than expected and the coffee. Oh and the doughnuts were great. Very nice to have nothing to moan about. Eve (our waitress) said can you leave a review? - so here I am! Will be back again!

Wow. Visited Civerino’s last night and can’t recommend it enough. The food was delicious, eye roll whilst chewing kind of yum. We had the meatballs and XL Mozerella sick to start and the pizza lasagne and Chicago pizza for main and all was 10/10 and so filling. Emilie-Jayne was a server and she was fantastic, so lovely and attentive! Would absolutely recommend, thanks Civerino’s for a lovely evening 🤩

I’ve had pizza in New York, Las Vegas, California, in multiple places in Italy and various places in London, and Japan. Literally all over the world. I was surprised to see this was time outs top 20 pizza places in the world. I’ve had all sorts of pizza. This place doesn’t even make my top 10. So firstly they didn’t have seats available. So I ordered my pizza for takeaway that was my first mistake. I spent about a good 30 Minutes to get my pizza and in that time I could’ve sat in the restaurant but they decided to seat other walks-in’s. The Parmesan crust on the pizza was the only thing that was good. The center part fell apart super easily. I’ve had better $2.00 pizza in New York. My hotel was a 2 minute walk from the place. By the time I ate it it was already cold and not good at all. But yeah, this pizza was super mid…and I definitely won’t be coming back here again. It just fell apart. Was super disappointed cause I saw a tik tok video. There’s other places nearby that are way better.

Awesome location, very friendly staff. They stored our bags as we arrived from the airport a few hours before check-in and we began our walk in the city. When we returned our luggage was in our room. Great service and extremely friendly staff!! Would stay again.

I loved this hotel, despite the AC ( there was a heat wave when we visited). Windows were able to be open for a nice breeze though! We loved the location, but next time I would stay more central Edinburgh so we could be close to shopping. The castle was about a 20 minute walk away, all uphill so please take note if you are not able to do so. The breakfast and coffee were fantastic in the hotel. We did not try the food for dinner, but the menu looked amazing. The room was a typical European room and is small, but we made it work. I loved the bed and found it extremely soft that I sunk into it, but my husband could not sleep since it was so soft. I would recommend this hotel.
Maddy S — Google review
The hotel is a nice one in a fantastic location within easy walking distance of most of the neighborhoods and attractions you'd want to see. The staff was friendly, there's an elevator to easily get your bags up to the higher floors, and it was very convenient to have a restaurant on-site for easy breakfasts and/or quick dinners. The food was good, too. My one-bed room wasn't expansive, but it was enough space for my needs. There wasn't AC ... It was cool enough when I was there that I didn't really need it, but there was a Dyson fan in the room to help cool it if needed, and the window opened. The room and bathroom were clean, the bed was comfortable, good pressure in the shower, all that stuff. It was also pretty neat that every room was named after a notable Scottish person. I wasn't bothered by any noise at night when I was trying to sleep, even though the restaurant/bar did seem fairly busy and had live music on the weekends.

Our room was tiny, hard to get around the end of the enormous bed! Enormous bed was very comfortable and could have accommodated 4 of people easily! Very noisy outside at night. Sadly, on arrival staff were obviously and vocally disgruntled with other staff members. Excellent location.

Lovely quiet street in city , great locationwith beautiful bar area. Rooms are small and awkward and quite hot at times , bad smell of sewerage we could smell through the building at times. Staff friendly , food average. Advertised rooms pics are not true to the size of rooms. Altho we had a comfy fluffy bed and pillows so that was fab !!

Nestled on the picturesque Victoria Terrace, Scotts Kitchen is a delightful destination for those seeking to indulge in seasonal Scottish cuisine. This charming eatery boasts a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere, complete with an inviting outdoor terrace that basks in sunlight—perfect for enjoying a meal while soaking up the vibrant surroundings. With menus that highlight locally sourced ingredients from across Scotland, diners can savor fresh mussels from the Shetland Isles and succulent lobster from East Lothian.
I would very much recommend this place. Good food and they have terrace view as well. You should def try their fruit scones, the jam was absolutely delicious and the cream not two sweet, overall a perfect balance. The fries were also perfect, crispy on the outside, soft inside, but not too oily. It was slightly on the salty side through. Happy eating :)

This was an incredible surprise. You would think that a restaurant this close to big attractions that would be a tourist trap but its amazing. The food is incredible good and the staff is very friendly. A special shout out to Mel which was our server and very lovely and kind! (Hopefully we can meet again in Portugal 😊)

It's a very atmospheric restaurant. We came here on a sunny day. The sunlight streamed into the restaurant, making it extremely beautiful. My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. I highly recommend it to everyone. The food is generally very delicious. However, for me personally, one of the lamb dishes I ordered was a bit too heavy. It would be even better if it were paired with some refreshing vegetables. Overall, it was a very good dining experience!
Berries W — Google review
Me and my friend wanted to try some traditional Scottish food, so after looking at their outdoor menu, we were kindly seated at a nice window table. The best part about this experience was the staff, they were all attentive and kind people, they were quick to replace cutlery and serve the food. Another plus is the stunning location and the decorations. I also enjoyed their coffee, and my friend the tomato juice. The food was average at best. I ordered the traditional haggis, which was unfortunately very bland, so I had to go with salt and pepper twice to give it some more depth. My friend had the venison and beetroot casserole, and she said it was alright. I was expecting more from the food, I don’t know if I would try something else from their menu apart from coffee, but we had a lovely time there nonetheless.

Disappointed - Family group of 9, here for tea/dinner, 18.45 - we were sat outside on tiny tables (see pic) it was actually cold - plenty of nice, group tables inside, asked and told no, another in our group who pressed this point, told to "calm down" (seriously) Now, in the afternoon, for a quick lunch-time snack, outside, on the public terrace would be fine, but having an evening meal... we were being passed and overlooked by groups of passers by, truly not fun. Check any other reviews I make effort to leave, I endeavour to be truthful and this is my honest experience. I suspect others may have had better, more positive experiences. Food, was OK. It's an opinion anyway, take it or leave it

We ate here on both our first and last days in Edinburgh—because it was just that good! The haggis, soup, crispy sausage, and venison were all absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The location is ideal—just above Victoria Street—offering a quiet spot while still being close enough to enjoy the charm and views of the area. Highly recommend!
Shelah K — Google review
The mac & cheese was good — it just needed a bit more salt and more cream. The haggis, on the other hand, was absolutely amazing — the best we’ve had on the entire trip! Unfortunately, the burger was a total disaster. £18 for that disappointment is just sad. No sauce, completely dry — but that’s not even the worst part. For that price, not being able to make your own burger patty and using a frozen one instead is just shameful.

When I went there for lunch on a Monday afternoon, the place was positively booming! I highly recommend booking in advance because the place is clearly very popular! The staff there were very warm, friendly and helpful. Despite how busy the place clearly was, the lady who was serving me, Rachel N, was cool as anything and was chatting to me as if the lunch rush wasn't affecting her negatively at all! She was attentive and helped me to feel at ease and to enjoy my experience there. To drink, water was being given out from the waiters freely amongst the diners although if you wanted bottled water, that was an option too. I felt like I wanted to treat myself so I ordered a virgin mojito which was both fresh and zesty in equal measure! Perfect! I ordered the butternut squash soup with toasted pumpkin seeds and chilli oil that came with a slice of sourdough bread as my main, which was delicious. The chilli oil that was added was not overpowering at all which I personally liked because I'm not great with super spicy things anyway! For dessert I had a slice of apple tart, topped with a generous dollop of creme fraiche and a latte to accompany it. There was also a ridiculously cute little shortbread accompanying the coffee that was perfectly sized and melt in the mouth which was a nice bonus! I will admit I wasn't as enamoured with the apple tart as the rest of my meal. I'm kinda sensitive to some sensory things so the choice of the peels being left on the apples wasn't a pleasant tactile experience but that is just my personal preference and not at all indicative of the quality of the dish! All in all I would wholeheartedly recommend dining there and, if I go to Edinburgh again, would love to return :)
Beth D — Google review
Booked ahead for lunch for 3 adults and 3 children. Needed a £150 holding deposit which seemed excessive and very strict rules around when to arrive and warnings about arriving late. We dutifully arrived on time to find the table wasn't even ready and we had to wait. Staff were embarrassed but didn't handle it well - they all seemed too young and inexperienced. Pleasant place and food was ok but that was a bad start and £20 for a bowl of average soup is daylight robbery.

I had a wonderful late lunch here , I was able to sit outside and enjoy the glorious views while I enjoyed a delicious and filling buttery! The staff were so courteous and attentive … Rebecca and Elliot were not only knowledgeable about the menu and the locally sourced ingredients, they gave good advice about what to visit locally and in the gallery. I will definitely be visiting again before I leave for London!

Bonnie Burrito is a popular spot for those craving a quick and satisfying meal. The menu features a variety of burritos with vegan filling options like vegan haggis and plant-based chicken alternatives. While some find the prices a bit steep, the generously filled burritos make it worth the cost. Customers have enjoyed options like pulled pork and Irn-Bru pulled pork, paired with flavorful sauces such as mango and habanero.
Stopped in here as I was passing last night. Never really had a burrito before but it was delightful. Staff were friendly and helpful and had a good laugh wktb them. Really enjoyed the food seems good quality for a small business. I will be stopping again next time I pass thanks for the help and great service!

Be extra CAREFUL if you eat here! My fajita chicken bowl came with a dangerous surprise, a SHARP BONE with the size of the bottle cap! It’s infuriating to me how this thing was missed when cleaning and cooking the chicken! Scary to think what would happen if this thing was wrapped in a burrito, a trip to the ER would be guaranteed! Be extra cautious if you have no other options but have to eat here!
Sardor K — Google review
Really disappointed, used to come here regularly and the food was always super fresh and plentiful but it's completely different now as well as being charged for extras - £1 for a teaspoon of guacamole?! "Regular burrito" was what used to be classed as small and the burrito bowl was miniscule. We ordered chips that had been cooked to order but were in the fryer less time than it took to make the burrito and they were still rock solid and went straight in the bin! Such a shame as it used to be so good.
Miriam C — Google review
As many other reviewers have pointed out, this place used to be really good. The food was consistently good and the staff were not only friendly, but also took pride in their work -- they ensured that they served well-filled burritos and used to instruct newer staff members to stuff their burritos unlike a subway sandwich. Recently, prices have gone up drastically with most staff being part-timers. You now get considerable variation in the quality of the fillings too, depending on who has put it on the stove earlier in the day. Finally, vegan options may or may not be available. I even tried calling in advance to check that they have some left, but even then, I have been lied to. This is absurd, particularly because of the heavy premium levied on their vegan chicken (now vegan sausage) option. Quite disappointed as it used to be a great place that my friends and I go to once or twice a week. I doubt I'll be coming here that often anymore.
Girish V — Google review

Disappointed and not rated on food as didn't get any. Went to order takeaway for four but while first order was being made up the staff realised they hadn't prepared any filling. With the option of min 10 minute wait for replacement, decided best thing was to go elsewhere as wasn't sure where the incompetence could end

Order #33147279. Guy looked liked I'd ruined his night asking for vegan chicken. Ordered a large, and regular sized normal chicken burrito for my daughter (not spicy as she's a kid). Got home and opened the bag, didn't even get a burrito, was 2 bowls, both the same size even though I'd paid for a large, so that doesn't add up. And my daughters was spicy. The bowls themselves didn't taste good at all, had just been flung together (I mean look at the bottom one) and the vegan chicken was hard and crunchy. Just a terrible, terrible meal. Didn't have time to go back as we were in a rush. Will just make sure I never return.
Craig M — Google review
We've eaten from here a few times but last time we were in we ordered from the App and went to collect the Burritos instore on my way home. I got home to find half the fillings from my burrito was missing, no salsa, no guac, no cheese, no suace etc. I contacted support and they agreed it was unacceptable but then did nothing. Theyve refused to refund or respond any further. It's not a cheap option so I expect to get what I order.

Deacon Brodies Tavern is a historic establishment located on the Lawnmarket in Edinburgh, attracting a diverse crowd of locals and tourists. The tavern offers classic British dishes and cask ales, with an ornate thistle ceiling adding to its traditional charm. Named after William Brodie, a prominent figure in Edinburgh's history, the tavern spans two floors, featuring an upstairs restaurant.
Fun standing at the entrance end of the bar and seeing oodles of folks take photos of the exterior (as did I)! We just did beers and cider, and no food. Service was friendly and efficient, though the drink prices reflect the place's status as a tourist attraction. Very cool and well maintained. Exterior looks almost too new, and the gorgeous interior was super clear.

Lovely experience, the staff was helpful and you really enjoy the vibes. Downstairs is the bar area you can enjoy a drink and a good snack, upstairs is the dinning area which is great to take your meal and take a break from all the visiting. I loved the ambience, the music wasn't loud, just perfect to relax and enjoy their food.

We went to the restaurant upstairs and the food was excellent. We got the meat pies and the mash. If you haven't had a Carachan dessert yet, I highly recommend you save room to try it. We have been told that the dish is just as traditional as haggis, and we really enjoyed it. The establishment itself was pretty busy, so we had to wait for about 45-50 minutes before the three of us were seated. However, the wait didn't feel too long because we were able to hang out downstairs and have a couple beers.

We arrived without reservation and the local was almost full. We waited less than 5 minutes and they gave us a table. The attention was so good and the woman with the red hair was so gentle with us speaking spanish and helping us choosing! The food was amazing, the drinks too and I recommend the toffe pudding! It was delicious. I tried my first haggis here with the Balmoral chicken and was a good surprise!

The restaurant, Nichola's ale &gin establishments since 1873, is located upstairs in the famous Scottish pub, Deacon Brodie's Tavern. They offer an extensive range of Scottish whisky from the fruity to the smoky, enjoy premium scotch with a trodiontal meal e.g lamb haggis. The seafood is also quite fresh and taste at just average level.

Deacon Brodie’s Tavern is a must-visit if you’re exploring Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. This lovely, lovely pub offers a great atmosphere, amazing pub food, and exceptionally friendly service. We sat upstairs, where the ambiance was cozy and welcoming—perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. I had the Chunky Chips, and they were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked—crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, and seasoned just right. My wife’s meal escapes my memory, but I do recall her saying it hit the spot and satisfied her hunger completely. What makes this tavern truly special is its connection to one of Edinburgh’s most intriguing historical figures: William “Deacon” Brodie. By day, Brodie was a respected cabinet-maker and city councillor, even holding the title of Deacon of the Wrights and Masons. But by night, he led a double life as a burglar, using his locksmith skills to rob the very homes he serviced. His tale of duplicity and downfall—culminating in his execution in 1788—later inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The tavern itself dates back to the 19th century and proudly honors Brodie’s legacy, with decor and storytelling that bring his legend to life. It’s just steps from where Brodie was born and hanged, adding a layer of eerie charm to your pint or plate. Whether you're drawn by the history, the hearty food, or the cheerful staff, Deacon Brodie’s Tavern delivers a memorable experience. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a good story with their supper.

The Balmoral Hotel, a stunning Victorian building with a central clock tower located at the corner of Princess Street and the North Bridge, is one of Edinburgh's renowned railway hotels. This luxurious spa hotel offers a perfect blend of classic French cuisine and Scottish produce at Brasserie Prince, along with an impressive SCOTCH bar and award-winning afternoon tea served in the elegant Palm Court tea room.
Our son booked us a 2 night stay in the Balmoral for our 30th wedding anniversary and oh my what a fabulous stay we had. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the staff couldn't do enough for us. From the door porter to the all the reception crew, the way we were treated we honestly felt like we were the most important people in the hotel and we were even given a free upgrade to an executive room which was lovely. After giving us an extremely early check in (around 10:30 am) we were taken to our room by one of the porters who insisted on taking our bags for us which was nice. The room was absolutely luxurious, extremely spacious with a huge bed. The huge bathroom was also immaculate. The hotel itself is so luxurious, from the reception area to the bar/restaurant and the amazing Palm Court tea room. Unfortunately we didn't have time to experience the Palm Court as we had other plans but will definitely use it when we return. We used the Bar Prince on a couple of occasions and once again all the staff we encountered were so professional, friendly, polite and immaculately turned out. Over the years years me and my wife have stopped at some lovely hotels around the world but we can honestly say that our experience at the Balmoral was the best we've ever had. We we're so sad when we had to check out but we will definitely be returning to this wonderful hotel in the beautiful city. A huge thank you to Andrew McPherson and his team for making our stay so memorable.

Overall not a bad hotel, however, if staying in the high season I do not see the value for the price. There are plenty of other hotels in the city that are better value. Pros The hotel location is central. The front desk staff and the restaurant team were great. Good check in experience and first night at the hotel. The room was nicely decorated and clean. Cons Noise level extreme, if there are events being held in the hotel with loud music. There was a wedding going on and we could hear music past 12:00 a.m., in our room more than 3 floors up -disappointing given how much you are paying. Likewise, the first room we were in had an adjoining room door in it with extremely noisy when other guests moved into the room beside us - again at the price you are paying this is disappointing. ( I will give credit to the front desk team as I called and they moved us to a different room pretty quickly). Some staff were really great, however customer service was mixed and not consistent. Garbage was left by the elevator for 2 days without being cleaned and a robe in the room had dark brown residue on it. Recommendation If you would like to stay here, perhaps stay during the week and in down season, for a quieter experience.

Lovely hotel centrally located in Edinburgh. Spotless. Elegant. Staff was exceptionally courteous and efficient. Had to leave early due to incoming storm threatening our exit flight. Gave six hours notice but had to pay for the last day per their cancellation policy. Would’ve appreciated the courtesy of forgiving the last day considering the circumstances. Nonetheless, would stay there again on our next trip to Edinburgh

We had an excellent stay at The Balmoral. Top quality service for us start to finish. The connecting suite rooms were perfect for us and the children. The rooms were quiet and clean. I was truly shocked how quiet the rooms were. The restaurant is delicious and so is the room service. The location of this hotel is also superb, close to everything. Access to the train is amazing, and such a fun experience.

Popped in for a quick lunch between train journeys. Greeted with a lovely concierge service that took care of our cases. Headed to the brassiere for the set menu lunch which was good value for money and really tasty. Wish we could have stayed longer. Amazing staff and service. Thank you.

Can’t beat the location. Close to the mall, royal mile, and trams. Rooms were immaculate The service was impeccable. Came back to my room and they folded the clothes that was on the ground. Tidied up our cords and provided cord wraps for us. In the evening they provided turn down service, refilled waters/ whatever we needed. The teatime was wonderful, delicious and staff was kind and warm.
Beto — Google review
My stay at The Balmoral was nothing short of unacceptable, especially considering the extremely high prices we paid (£2,233.64 for three nights). What should have been a premium, professional, and comfortable experience turned into one of the most poorly handled hotel stays I’ve ever had. On the night of 21 December, the hotel’s emergency alarm went off, forcing every guest into the cold with zero explanation. We stood outside for around 20 minutes, freezing and confused, without any staff member providing information or reassurance. Shockingly, I had to call reception myself to find out what was happening. Only then did anyone bother to inform us that we needed to evacuate. For a hotel claiming to be five-star, this complete lack of communication and guest care is unbelievable. But what makes this experience even worse is how the hotel handled everything afterwards. No explanation. No goodwill gesture. No compensation. Nothing. The entire incident was treated as though it didn’t matter, and the guests’ discomfort and stress were simply ignored. For the amount we paid, we expected professionalism, care, and basic hospitality. Instead, we were met with disorganisation, poor communication, and total indifference. The Balmoral did not live up to its reputation, its price point, or even the most basic standards of guest service. I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly advise others to consider alternative accommodations where guest wellbeing and communication are actually taken seriously.
Luan S — Google review
An real ode to elegance and a hint of mischief. The Balmoral stands like a gracious sentinel at the heart of Edinburgh, a place where time seems to slow its pace out of sheer respect for beauty. Its halls whisper of travel and repose of letters unwritten and champagne long remembered. Service is the kind that feels both invisible and omnipresent as though the building itself takes care of you. The rooms are a serenade to quiet splendour (high ceilings, soft light, and fabrics that seem to remember gentler centuries). Everything feels thoughtfully composed rather than merely designed; even the hush carries intention. The tea time at the Balmoral is also a sort of old gracions symphony. Silver gleaming, laughter soft, the scent of bergamot weaving through velvet air. And the gentle sound of the harp elevates the moment to something sublime. The Balmoral is not merely a hotel, but a gracious pause in time. A place where Edinburgh itself seems to exhale in élégance.

Copper Still is a traditional pub located in the heart of The Royal Mile, offering a classic Scottish breakfast and a cozy atmosphere with wooden furnishings. Visitors can savor the iconic fry-up or opt for the Scottish version featuring haggis, tattie scones, and black pudding. Guests have praised the prompt service from friendly bartenders and enjoyed dishes like truffle fries and bacon-avocado-chicken salad.
We’ve been here a few times now and we really like the atmosphere, location and the food and drink. It’s a little pricey and we’ve found the quality/presentation of food different each time we’ve visited which is a little frustrating. The menu has also been the same for the last few years so adding some specials in would be a great addition. That being said, the food is always tasty and the staff are nice and attentive. A highlight for us is the cocktail menu which is vast with quirky choices such as ‘The Royal Mile’, the location is fab as it’s right in the centre of the Royal Mile and the decor is gorgeous and cosy too. It’s definitely a trusty favourite for us.

We visited Copper Still, Edinburgh for dinner during our tour to Scotland. We were keen to taste their Scottish Salmon. The staff concerned seemed reluctant to show us in and we were told that it would take them 15 minutes to attend to us. We said that we would wait for the meal by enjoying a drink. We sat but no one came to ask our drinks. After waiting we called the person, she came took the order for drinks and Scottish Salmon and after 15 minutes came to tell us that one drink was not available. We changed the drink and both were served after considerable time. As the Salmon was still not served after more wait, we requested for Chips as a Starter. She was again reluctant to take the order. Finally we had to approach the Manager who was kind enough to expedite the dishes and also reduce the bill on his own. We felt embarrassed for the first time despite our numerous journeys for years.
V S — Google review
We had the Scottish Salmon and Haggis on a bed of mash and neeps which were both very tasty. These were accompanied by a lager and a cider, followed by Irish coffee. Unfortunately there were limited choices and much of what we initially chose were not available, resulting in the reduced rating.

I don’t usually make reviews BUT I felt I needed to for the restaurants sake in this case. Let me start with the good things: the vibes are nice, the decorations are pretty and it’s not too loud. The sticky toffee pudding wasn’t the BEST I’ve had, but it’s tasty. That’s it. Now the bad (needs severe improvement): First, I arrived into the restaurant at 8:30 and I left 9:45 PM. I know what I wanted to order from the beginning. I had ordered a MEDIUM ribeye steak £40 with the whisky sauce. It took 30 min for the ribeye to arrive. Fine, whatever, maybe they’re backed up and busy? I then cut upon into the rib eye and I find it well done as you can see in the picture. Each cut into the steak looked like this. This leads me to my next critique: I had no chance at all to voice my concern. I didn’t see my server at all nor did anyone come to check up on me until I hunted them down for the dessert and the check, and by that time I was done with my food and just wanted to leave. I didn’t feel like I was being attended to nor cared for. I had to call for the waiter to ask them for the dessert and the check. Again, maybe they’re backed up and busy right? The two people who came after me both received their food and left the restaurant Prior to me receiving my food and receiving the check. At the end of the night, the waitress charged me £53 for everything, asked me how was everything, I said “it was ok”, to which she responded, “I hope you enjoyed”…idk, I just felt that I was never cared for, nor attended to all the while the food being not what I had asked for. This has been added to my “never again list” and it’s a shame because it could have been so much better

Been to Edinburgh many times but this was my first time dining at the Copper Still. The Service was very good, the food excellent (recommend: Scottish Salmon) and the vibe was great. I was a sole dinner and felt at home here... sat in the small window seat, enjoying a meal and a drink. ...so good I went back the following day before leaving Edinburgh.

Good burger and chips. Great seats outside for people watching. After the sun went down it got too cold to enjoy because it got windy. Reservation highly recommended if you want to sit inside. Outside is first come first serve. They seemed like they could have used another server. Or that’s typical pub culture..no rush just chill.

Takeout Restaurant
Mexican restaurant
Los Cardos is a cozy Mexican takeaway spot in Edinburgh, offering a variety of classic and innovative dishes such as burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and fajitas. They have filled the gap for quality takeaway burritos in the area and now provide evening home deliveries and online orders for collection. The menu features options like haggis and steak tacos, as well as carb-conscious choices like a tortilla-less bean bowl.
Absolutely delicious. Personally one of my favourite take aways in the area. Staff is very professional, kind and helpful. All the food is always fresh, prepared for you, super tasty and how you want it. And on top of that everything is reasonably priced. You just can't go wrong wit Los Cardos.
Norbert G — Google review
In respect to the current global issue of highly pressured, low supply restaurants, I am ashamed to have expected more. Thank you for choosing to be open and offer food in this difficult time. I want to give 5 stars on that alone, but this is about food - as is. Given the area (Leith) and the attempt to offer Mexican (non-authentic), I rate my steak burrito and tacos below average. The accessibility, friendliness, and portion size makes up the rest. You definitely get a bang for your buck. Would not go back but it was filling. Suggest to focus on garlic, onion, and citrus flavors through marinades or infused rice.
Cori S — Google review
Order two burritos - one haggis and one vegetarian. I was answering questions about what was to go in them from two people as they made both, including at end when person was asking me about drinks etc and charging me for them. Unfortunately I didn't realise the person making the veggie one hadn't asked me about sour cream and cheese (and for some reason assumed I didn't want any???). So I came home to find it was a disgustingly bland one with only rice, beans and vegetables. It cost over £8 for it. Ridiculous! I've been here quite a few times before but I'll just make my own in the future.
Nina M — Google review
Pretty decent burritos :) Good place for takeaway burritos, tacos, quesadillas etc. There is a wide selection of main fillings from veg haggis to chicken to steak. The limitations and extra charges on some fillings are a little annoying, with the jalapenos and guacamole being a little extra to have. The burrito was pretty good, and the staff here were very friendly!
Amilah — Google review
I'm going to be as objective as possible as I don't usually leave 1 star reviews. I ordered from them in the past and they've had great burritos, however this time I decided to try out the steak version of one of them, and when I got it it the meat was extremely chewy and rubbery, not at all tender like I would have expected. Ended up throwing away half the order, to my disappointment. Also the salsa Verde was very odd and bad looking, it would have been great if they actually add some description to the various extras for burritos...

This was my first time trying out Los Cardos and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered some food today via deliveroo/ended up phoning them directly. The guy I spoke to on the phone was really friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and it was delivered so quickly. Thanks a lot to whoever I spoke to on the phone, I appreciated your generosity :D definitely recommend.

Los Cardos is THE place to go if you want Mexican food in Edinburgh. I was not able to find a better place so far. Huge burrito, filled with a lot of good quality meat. Prices are perfectly reasonable for the portion you get. Make sure you grab a stamp card as you'll be back.

Love this place ! The staff are great, always friendly and cheerful and it's spotless which is always good. I always go for a burrito and am never disappointed, I particularly like the carnitas very tasty and the meet is super tender. I love the veggie haggis too. Tha salsa is fresh and homemade and always really good. If you like Mexican and want a take away this is the place for you,,,,,,,,,,,,, DELISH.

FacePlant Foods is a cozy plant-based cafe located in the lively neighborhood of Leith, Edinburgh. They offer a variety of mouthwatering vegan sandwiches and salads, with their specialty being grilled sandwiches filled with options like jackfruit and kimchi, mac and two cheeze, and haggis melt with cheeze and caramelized onion chutney. In addition to their savory offerings, they also have an entire section dedicated to creamy mac'n'cheeze dishes.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Co-owner was also super nice. Haggis melt was delicious and the chicken Caesar salad was WELL AND ABOVE any others I've ever had. If you have any dietary restrictions, they've done a great job to label each dish on the menu. The bus stops almost directly in front of their spot, so it's literally a 10 step walk once you get dropped off.

One Edinburgh absolute vegan institutions. Delicious toasted sandwiches full of uncompromising vegan goodness. I must've tried everything on the menu by now and nothing disappoints. Vegan Mac & cheese is banging, Reuben sandwich always slaps, Kimcheeze is out of this world. 'Chicken' Caesar salad is always great and so is the wrap version. Every week there's an amazing special too! Must visit if you're in town
Patrycja J — Google review
I had an amazing experience at this vegan restaurant! The sandwiches were out of this world, especially the mac and cheese sandwich and the daily special lasagna sandwich. We also tried a veganized version of a traditional Scottish soup, and it was delicious! Highly recommend this place!

This place is honestly one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to! We’ve been twice and I’m stuck between wanting to order everything we’ve already had and yet wanting to try everything on their menu! The tuna melt is seriously in my dreams!

Literally best sandwich I've ever had! No joke, this morning was the first time I've actually bought anything from a vegan cafe and it's blown my mind. I only popped in here as I had just missed my bus and having not yet had breakfast thought I'd might get a quick bite from here. It was so chilled, just a couple, their dog and one other person in, some nice music...lovely. Had a look at their menu on the wall and The Haggis Melt instantly stood out for me. I did have my doubts if it was going to be anything like the real deal but having got it to take- away, I opened it up and was very surprised at the portions. 2 mega filled toasted sandwiches of haggis, cheese and caramelised onion... they looked perfect and they tasted out of this world. I can't describe it other than that. Best sandwich ever. Delighted to have stumbled into this place and though not a practising vegan (Sorry) I'll definitely be back here again to try a few more options because that haggis melt is going to be on my mind now for days! Thank you for a cracking breakfast.

No. Ten Restaurant & 10 Wine Bar offers a delightful dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. Guests have praised the friendly and attentive staff, who strike the perfect balance between being helpful and allowing diners to enjoy their meals in peace. The culinary offerings are exceptional, with standout dishes like their surprisingly delicious mac and cheese. For those looking for an elevated experience, the five-course taster menu paired with perfectly selected wines is highly recommended.
The service, food and wine in this restaurant was fantastic. We had the five course taster menu, and the wine pairings for each course were perfect. Highly recommended!

The staff members are very nice and welcoming. However, the options provided at the buffet breakfast are very limited. The food and drinks (i.e. tea and coffee) quality are average. I wish there are more options in terms of egg cooking. It costs £14 for hotel stayers and £17.50 for non-hotel stayers.
R T — Google review
This is a review of the food in the restaurant. We were on a 2 night stay and wanted vegetarian food. The only main course for dine in was a falafel burger. The first day we had pizza in the room. We asked if there were other vegetarian options they could do for us the next day, they said they will find out. We planned to dine in the next evening. We again asked if there were other veggie options (most restaurants are usually happy to whip up something) and were told no. So we had to order the burger which turned out to be a few falafels in a firm nan bread! Poorly seasoned and unappetising. We provided our feedback, a second staff member came over to explain and apologize. He then offered a discount and replace the dish, but it was too late as we were there for at least a couple of hours. The staff were polite but unhelpful and condescending. If you are looking for veggie/vegan food there are many places close by with delicious choices for a third of the price and with better ambience and experience.
R B — Google review
We had dinner here a couple of times and the experience was nice. Staff was friendly and attentive, but gave us space. Food was delicious, the best mac and cheese I've had, which I wasn't expecting. We tended to eat rather late in the evening, so the atmosphere was quiet, which we appreciated.
Brenna B — Google review
The food was good. The waitress was intrusive a lot and embarrassed us asked for a tip in cash while we had only cards and didn’t want to add it in the machine, also we shouldn’t be pushed to pay the tip, my friends and I will never come again.
FATMA — Google review
The food I had was good. Unfortunately there was no fish delivery so a lot of the menu wasn't available. This wasn't good for my other half who doesn't eat red meat and was stuck with a falafel burger, not something that you really would want to pick for a treat night out
Caley P — Google review
Not worth. Tomato soup as soup of the day with roasted bred (maybe the roaster was out of order) with a taste like baby food. Beef burger with triple fried potatoes. Meat was roasted dead, bun was try, tomato slice and ONE lettuce leaf plus tasteless cheese and fat called bacon. It took more than 90 minutes to serve the pre ordered menu. We quit before desert and got out. Service Personal stressed. Bar tender and waitress seems to be on part time training in service job. Recommended to choose from a wide range of restaurants in area.
