Cafe St Pierre, located at 41 St Peter's St in Canterbury, offers a delightful French experience. Run by a Frenchman, this charming cafe exudes an authentic Parisian vibe. Indulge in their delectable baguettes and irresistible cakes while sipping on thick hot chocolates that actually taste like real chocolate. The quaint environment and the option to order in French add to the unique experience.
A Little Taste of France in Canterbury 🇫🇷☕ Café Saint-Pierre is a quaint shop that truly transports you to the streets of France. From the decor to the staff and overall vibe, it felt like a charming French escape. The menu was largely in French—something that might be tricky for some, but we enjoyed the authenticity. We got to pick from a lovely selection of pastries. The ham and cheese croissant was incredibly cheesy with just the right amount of ham—easily one of the better ones I’ve had. 🥐✨ The chocolate croissant was beautifully flaky, buttery, and generously filled. We also tried the German sausage, which was okay—not the highlight, but the sauce was nice. The coffees were good, though I’d recommend adding sugar, as most people seemed to do. A popular choice was the Petit Déjeuner à la Française, a mini breakfast with a piece of bread, a pastry, and coffee for around £7—seemed like a great option for a light start to the day. Overall, a lovely café and a great quick pit stop before exploring the beautiful historic town of Canterbury. Would definitely recommend! 🇫🇷☕

We stumbled upon this lovely café and were so glad we did! They have a beautiful garden area — peaceful, cozy, and perfect for relaxing. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We had an iced coffee and a cappuccino — both delicious. The food was amazing as well! We tried their famous honey cake, which reminded us a bit of Napoleon cake, but honestly, it was even better. So rich, light, and flavorful — absolutely loved it. We also had croissants, and they were unlike any we’ve tried before. They were sliced open and stuffed generously — mine was filled with ham and cheese, and my girlfriend had one with mushrooms. Super tasty and really unique! Everything was fresh and full of flavor, but what stood out the most was the warm atmosphere and kind staff. Highly recommended!

A lovely little oasis in St Peter's Street. It is very pleasant to sit in the garden away from the hustle & bustle of the city. There is a varied menu including filled baguettes, croissants and delicious pastries. The croque monsieur & the petit dejeuner are favourites with us. The staff are always friendly and efficient.

Dog friendly! Made us and our dog very welcome. Cute patio. Excellent staff. Delicious pastries and baguettes. French touches everywhere, down to the soap :) Thank you!

Great little gem. Really cozy inside. I've lived in Paris and the quality of the pastries are as good as in France. Flaky and soft croissants, excellent quiches and great coffee. A must stop for a great breakfast or brunch if you are hanging around Canterbury.

Nice little coffee & pastry shop. Bacon quiche was really nice. My partner ordered german sausage baguette - bread was really good but sausage & filling can be better. Fruit pie was fresh. Coffee & hot choc were standard. Staffs were friendly and place is cozy.

Nice little cafe for a leisure stop. We were looking for a proper coffee and found this cafe. Friendly staff. Have indoor and outdoor seatings.
Jessy T — Google review
Genuinely, one of the best cafes I have ever been in the UK. Nice service. The staff was very nice and friendly. The pastries and sweet were delicious and not too sweet. We really love the apple tart and custard cake. The atmosphere was lovely. I'd would definitely come back if I got a chance to visit Canterbury again.

Can't fault this delightful restaurant. Ordered drinks and food which was ready pretty quickly despite being busy. Food was great quality with a service to match with happy and conscientious staff. Really enjoyable

Food was good, bacon was a bit salty. Baked beans were good, not too sweet or salty, with lovely tomato sauce. Vibe is the reason we were there. Service was nice, care and made sure you were well served.

It was a good start to the day to have brunch at Refectory Kitchen. I enjoyed my pancakes and hot chocolate, largely because of the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. They greeted me warmly with no wait time despite having a busy morning. Then patiently recommended food choices. Throughout the meal, they checked on me twice to make sure eveything was fine. To the pretty and efficient-working staff, thank you for your hard work!

We’ve been at the Reflectory Kitchen on a Sunday morning in August 2025 and had a tasty English breakfast. Opens at 8:00 h! Recommendation!
Jörg W — Google review
We went this on Sunday evening. It was a little bit crowded, we have to wait for 20 minutes. But it was worth. I ordered smoked salmon and avocado. There are boiled eggs, salmon, cucumbers and a lot of avocados on a toast. The taste of vinegar was excellent.

Went to The Refectory Kitchen for breakfast — staff were really welcoming and friendly. Got there early so plenty of tables, but it filled up fast! Great menu with lots of choice. I had the English breakfast (delicious) and my wife had the pancakes, which looked and tasted amazing. Very popular spot — we’ll definitely be going back! Parking is about five minutes away next to the train station. It’s in the old part of the city, so wheelchair access is limited with stairs at the entrance, though staff would likely help. There’s also an outdoor seating area for warmer days.

The food was delicious. Loved that the full English included veges. The garlic mushrooms and tofu were particularly tasty. Recommend getting a juice or smoothie and your coffee elsewhere. Milk steamed to very high temp which curdles some plant milks such as soy 😅 We came back a second time for the food. Tasty cakes to take away as well 🍰

Recommended by our tour guide and indeed it is healthy and delicious. Four stars list though for the attitude of the Indian (?) cashier with glasses. Before cutoff for all other food and she BLUNTLY said she could only do one dish and rang it up right away without asking if wanted anything else - I could have gone for a pastry but I guess no thank you… rude enough that I wouldn’t myself come back

It's in a very central location, near the cathedral, under beautiful arches. Very beautiful spot. One girl at the counter was very helpful, some other a bit less. Food was ok, not the worst, not the best. I got my order slightly wrong, but it wasn't the end of the world, I ate it anyway. The soup of the day in my opinion was a bit acidic.. even if I only had 4-5 spoons, I felt it coming back up few hours later. Maybe was just not a lucky one!
Laura — Google review
It is a family run enterprise. Great friendly staff and proud owner. Food was out of the world. Tomato soup tasted divine. Mediterranean platter was scrumptious. Recommend to vegan and veggie lovers.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a minute. Gorgeous food bonus that it’s all so healthy and flavoursome ! Can’t believe I had to go all the way to Canterbury to find out there is a branch in London also :)
S A — Google review
It is such a shame; this used to be one of my favourite cafes in Canterbury. Whilst the food is still tasty, the portion sizes for the price are stupidly small. I paid £11.60 this weekend for a buddha bowl to take away and was given about half of a standard portion that didn’t even cover the bottom of the container, and went less than half the way up the sides. The quantity was probably worth about £5. The staff were absolutely run off their feet and the service was incredibly slow. Really disappointing. Unfortunately, I cannot continue to recommend this spot.
Eva H — Google review
The Veg Box is one of the first places we ate at as a family of three since our son was born, and though I was a little apprehensive given his minute attention span, we couldn't have enjoyed out lunch there more. The staff were so kind and accommodating, the food was absolutely delicious (the pancakes were insanely good, and the salad buffet was phenomenal - a big word to use about salad, but even my partner who is definitely not a natural herbivore really loved them!) and the general vibe of the place is super relaxed, so even when our son was testing out his lungs nobody made us feel awkward. Fantastic selection of food and drink, great portion sizes and really quick service, we really couldn't have asked for more - maybe more pancakes because I could have eaten them forever - but really we couldn't recommend enough. And even though they were clearly very busy, the staff were all doing an amazing job of still smiling and being super friendly, which I think is never easy when under pressure, so big props (and many thanks) to them!

I had the Sri Lankan curry with rice and fermented veg. It was so delicious and had a great depth of flavour. The place is very nice and the service is lovely. Will definitely eat here again if passing by Canterbury again.

The menu offers filling and affordable dishes made from fresh ingredients. Visitors can enjoy a hearty breakfast or a satisfying lunch in a friendly environment with polite service. The café's retro interior exudes charm, and the cappuccino is particularly noteworthy for its perfect froth and chocolate powder topping.
Me and my friends stopped by this lovely restaurant for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. The guy who served was so polite and the environment was so friendly. Cute interior giving out retro vibes. The food was in hearty portions and the cappuccino was out of my expectation! The froth was perfect and airy with the chocolate powder dusted evenly on top. I highly recommend this place if you want something simple but delicious.

I'd been pestered for weeks by my son to take him here so I took my daughter this morning. I'd had an ECG at the doctor's earlier, so the timing felt apposite. We opted for the Solo Special which was quite excellent. Properly cooked black pudding rather than the cremated blood patty I've been given elsewhere in Canterbury. The eggs, bacon and mushroom were all cooked to perfection. The table was spotless and the staff were courteous and polite. Parking available too! A great experience, as was the ECG test earlier on.

Amazing food, the staff are so friendly and their is also a parking space for customers and a lovely garden to sit in. I would really recommend coming here everything was 10/10

We were just on our way home from Dover to Blue Bell Hill and decided to turn of at the Canterbury off the A2 and found the Cafe Solo 😃 we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff 👍 who served us up some delicious food 🍱 in a very clean and welcoming setting 😃 we had the Sunday roast which was very tasty 👍 the place is spotlessly clean 👍 and as a bonus there is parking for customers as well 😃 we will be back and would definitely recommend 😎

If Google could do more than 5 stars this place would get it. Upon arriving I got welcomed at the front door and seated. I think it’s a family run business because they take pride in everything they do. Food was wonderful Staff polite Cafe very clean There’s only two cafe’s I would take my wife too and this is one of them.

I was really impressed with cafe solo. We went there for breakfast and I really couldn't fault the food - I wanted a good fry up and that's exactly what I got. The milkshake here is also some of the best I've had around Canterbury, actually made using ice cream with a dollop of cream on top. The only reason I haven't put 5 stars for the food is because it didn't wow me like my other 5 star reviews, but it was still very decent. The staff were super friendly but gave us the space we wanted to eat together, the space was clean, and we were even surprised with complimentary Turkish delight. Overall, would recommend. They have a small carpark, but there are supermarkets nearby.

Ticks all the boxes. Super lemon cheesecake and coffee. Great place to visit informal but polite. Great service and food. Definitely coming back her for brunch! Just around the corner from the Cathedral, along a quiet side street.

Review: This café in Canterbury is clearly a local favorite, and it’s easy to see why! We visited during the early lunch hour, and it was buzzing with people, but there were plenty of tables available, including a cozy outdoor area with a covering. The service was excellent despite the busy atmosphere, and we had the best chai we’ve ever tasted—rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced. Although we didn’t get a chance to try the food, the dishes we saw being served looked absolutely delicious. Definitely worth a visit for a great drink and lively ambiance!
Sara M — Google review
Exceptional value for money, they could charge more! High quality of cooked food and coffee. This is the place to come for breakfast in Canterbury! Friendly staff who are attentive - lovely seating options, nice decor, a hidden gem just off the high street.
Simon B — Google review
Lovely cafe in the heart of Canterbury. The space inside is not a lot but there is a large covered terrace where it’s very pleasant to enjoy a meal or a drink. The food we ordered was nice, but the waiting time was quite long I would say (half an hour for some eggs). Nice cakes and teas too. I would stop again in a less busy day. Dog friendly.

Had an amazing experience at Lazix cafe! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a stylish and cozy interior that makes you feel instantly comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The coffee deserves a special mention as well, it was rich, smooth, and easily one of the best I’ve had. What I loved most was the combination of excellent service, high-quality food, and a relaxed ambiance. It’s the kind of place you want to come back to again and again, whether for a quick coffee, a meal with friends, or just to enjoy the vibe. Highly recommend Lazix cafe to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

The restaurant boasts a colorful interior adorned with modern artworks, creating a lively atmosphere for diners. In addition to its diverse menu featuring Mexican fare and exotic beverages, the café also houses a complete bar serving an array of Mexican wines, beers, and cocktails.
The food at Cafe des Amis is absolutely delicious. we had a lot of different dishes and each one was cooked to perfection. the cocktail menu is also great with loads of different options and types of alcoholic variety. Sophia was our waitress and she made the experience even more enjoyable, she was kind and friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. i would highly recommend Cafe des Amis!

They serve fusion food Mexican/Mediterranean. The Antojitos for two - mixed starter was good but some combinations didn’t really work well. The ceviche was not great. The paella was good. The huevos rancheros were nice. It is good in general but pricey for what you get. We had left overs and they packed them in paper foil that broke easily. For the price paid, one would expect something better to take the food away. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The place was a bit noisy. The toilets were dirty.

Really enjoyed pour experience at this restaurant. The host did an excellent job with us and all the diners. Atmosphere was lively and upbeat. Food was great. Only slight negative was that some dishes were salty. Overall very good and generous portions.
Susanne P — Google review
Every time I eat here I’m always full to the rim, the food is too good and it’s so addictive, the cocktails are nice and strong too and it tastes even better during happy hour (frozen drinks only)!! I got the duck in the mole sauce and it’s so juicy and tender and just goes so well with the salsa and mash! The calamari is crispy and comes with this shrimp paste and carrot noodles and it’s got a nice sweet and tangy taste to it! If you love alcohol I suggest ordering a caipirinha, it’s got the best combo of sweetness and sour you can ask for and they are generous with the alcohol!!

I went to visit my daughter at Uni over the Easter weekend and if my late husband was alive, it would have been our 22 year wedding anniversary. So to celebrate and remember my late husband, we went out for a lovely lunchtime meal. My daughter has been here before and she said you have to book over the weekend. We had lovely mocktails. The starters were delicious and pulled lamb fajitas were amazing. She shared the churros for dessert. It was a lovely meal and the service was great, very friendly staff. My daughter was well fed when mummy went to visit her. 😄💕

Cafe des Amis has been a favourite for years. Mexican with a French twist. Food is always good. Great for a romantic meal, or dinner with family and friends. The quirky wall art, cantina-esque style is warm and inviting.

Came in for dinner with a friend and, as someone who has never been a particularly huge fan of Mexican food, was very happy with the taste and quality of the food. The seafood burrito was absolutely delicious and if you feel like sharing I would highly recommend the chocolate fundido. Combined with the excellent service by every waitress we spoke with Café des Amis comes highly recommended!

Amazing food and service! Had the pulled duck burger which was incredible - so yummy, would 100% recommend. The pizza for 2 is very sizeable and delicious. The servers were all smiley and happy to help. The tiramisu was a lovely extra and much appreciated! Thank you!!

We could not get a table at another nearby restaurant. They recommended to us Cafe Du Soleil. Their loss and Cafe du Soleil gain! What a great restaurant on the river. delectable food, generous portions, came for lunch menu inadvertently and had the beef carapaccio which had a lot of flavors like spicy, salty cheesy very delicious, and the the aubergine which is the eggplant also cheesy and warm and gooey and delicious, and had nudja Pizza was which a lot of flavor but overwhelming and not like the cross was delicious but like it was really salty but not in a terrible way. it's more like really, really strong and had the beef steak burger which was good but very heavy and the fries were okay and came with the tiramisu which had a deep roasty coffee flavor which was unique and came with a candle for wifey's birthday and overall super pleasant experience

Tiny Tim's Tearoom is a charming and traditional thirties-style tearoom located in Canterbury. It offers a quintessential English experience with its cozy ambiance, live piano music in the afternoons, and a delightful selection of freshly baked goodies for their traditional afternoon teas. The tearoom also serves breakfast and lunch options, including poached eggs on toast, toasted crumpets, and the traditional Kentish 'huffkin.'
Absolutely loved the place!! I had the £14 deal which included two scones and coffee/tea. It was so worth the price. The scones were such good size and they had so many varieties of coffee and teas available. The scones were absolutely delicious. The service was so quick as well. Will definitely be visiting back ❤️

A really quaint place right across from the Marlow Arcade Mall area. It was very busy on a Monday bank holiday weekend. Service as a result was a little slow but courteous staff. Extensive menu with a decent set of options for vegetarians and a really fresh selection of pastries/cakes.

Best afternoon tea we had during our honeymoon. After having a few in London, we kind of came to the conclusion that maybe we don't like afternoon tea very much... but glad we tried again at Tiny Tim's! Their scones are amazing. The teas offered here all tasted AMAZING! The best part? It was so much more affordable than any other place we went to for the experience. Seriously, some in London were like 80 pounds per person, but here it was like 25 pounds for a much better tasting one. It was quite busy when we went, so service was a bit spotty, but it was still fun. Worth a visit for sure!

Absolutely fabulous. Breakfast is superb and the place is very lovely. Great service too. The scones are delicious and served hot.

We went to Tiny Tim's Tearoom because it was recommended to us by friends. We could pick a nice place ourselves. My husband took the cake with lemon and I went for the Pilgrim Scone. Very nice! We liked the decoration in this tearoom: all about autumn and NOT about Halloween. Well done!

This place was a vibe and overall the best Tea experiencei had in England. Relatively affordable afternoon tea compared to prices in London. Scones were huge and the staff was great. No wait either which was important as we came on a tour bus and had limited time.

I’ve been wanting to visit since their famous “Pudding Club”. Popped in for lunch and was pleased to see it full and doing well. Ended up with a chicken huffkin each, tea, hot chocolate and a scone to share. Absolutely wonderful. Scones as big as your fist and the perfect balance of flavour. This will be the sort of place to bring an older relative for an upscale afternoon tea they will talk about for years to come. We will be back.

The café prides itself on serving delicious, fresh, homemade food made with natural, wholegrain, and seasonal ingredients. They offer a variety of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes that are free from refined sugars, flours, and processed foods.
So glad we stopped in here for a breakfast treat. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious! Lovely place to stop on a sunny Saturday morning in Canterbury! Coffee was perfect and a good set of seating out front should you just wish to have a drink and watch the world go by. Would recommend.

Very busy and nice atmosphere but very let down by service. Our order wasn’t placed to kitchen but it was only after I checked in with them that they confirmed this. Obviously a new waitress that was learning but it just made me sad that none of the more senior colleagues were checking in with the tables she was waiting to make sure it was okay. I witnessed a few people being offered ‘free drink’ coupons - possibly due to situations like ours, but some more constructive management could lead to better outcomes and experiences for customers, as we don’t feel like returning.

OVERVIEW Canterbury’s 5* gem, offering outstanding high-quality whole foods and impeccable service! PLUS + An extensive menu featuring a wide range of authentic brunch options. +The ‘Waffle Toasty’ was unanimously a 5* standout — inventive, filling and tasty. A distinctive signature dish, highly recommended! + A brunch main course was enough to fulfil and satisfy: consensus of two. + Exceptional service overall, with ‘Willow’ and ‘Victoria’ standing out for their genuine warmth, attentiveness, and readiness to accommodate meal changes. + The upstairs dining area was intimate yet spacious, with a bright ambience — ideal for a breakfast date or lively catch-up. MINUS - The restaurant could provide a QR code self-payment option at each table for quicker, hassle-free service. ORDER HISTORY Breakfast: * Waffle Toastie (AVOCADO/cheddar cheese & egg) * Red onion & Peppers Omelette (with extras) * Toast Dessert: * Blueberry and Lemon Cake Drinks: * Hot & Spicy Cacao * Flat White * Turmeric Latte

A perfect breakfast experience from the very first moment. The place has a cozy and thoughtfully designed atmosphere: beautiful decor, friendly service, and an ambiance that invites you to linger. I ordered coffee, an egg omelet, avocado on toast, and a banana and spinach smoothie and it was spectacular… balanced flavors, impeccable presentation, and generous portions without being excessive. Definitely a place I would return to a thousand times. Ideal for starting the day on the right foot, alone or with others. A 10/10 in every way! ☕🍳🥑

The Moat Tea Rooms is a charming tearoom located in a 500-year-old half-timbered building within Canterbury's city walls. It offers a delightful selection of black, green, and oolong tea blends along with delectable homemade baked goods. The historic setting exudes an old-world charm with exposed beams and wooden floors, providing the perfect backdrop for enjoying breakfast, lunch, or traditional afternoon tea.
What a great visit I had here during my solo trip. Delicious scone and an incredibly cute building which only makes the taste of the food even better. But what made my visit extra special were the heartwarming people working there. They do their job with all their heart and are accommodating to their customers. I really appreciated the conversations and I will remember this forever. Thank you very much for the lovely time! 🫖

Charming tearoom. The rickety appearance seems well cared for. The huge choice of premium teas was really nice. Scones were pretty good too. Cakes looked inviting.

Amazing!!!! Wish I could give them 6 stars! The service was lovely and the cream tea, cake, teas and coffee were all delicious. Definitely pop by if you're in Canterbury
Meghan — Google review
The Moat Tea Rooms is a wonderfully cozy spot, tucked away in a charming old crooked Tudor building that feels like stepping back in time. My visit here was a delightful experience. The quaint and intimate atmosphere, paired with the history radiating from the walls, makes it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a peaceful afternoon. We ordered Russian Caravan tea, which had a rich, smoky flavor that felt just right for the setting, alongside a smooth and comforting latte. Despite not being very hungry, we couldn’t resist sharing a slice of cherry and nut pie, which was a great choice. The pie was delicious, with the tartness of the cherries perfectly complemented by the crunch of the nuts. It was a small indulgence, more for the soul than the stomach, and it lifted our spirits on a quiet day. What stood out, besides the food and ambiance, was the warm and friendly staff. They were incredibly kind and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Their hospitality made us feel truly welcome, and it’s clear they take pride in creating a pleasant and relaxing environment for their guests. I highly recommend The Moat Tea Rooms for anyone looking to escape the bustle of daily life and soak in some historic charm. Whether you're there for a full meal or just a soothing cup of tea, it’s a lovely spot to unwind and treat yourself.

We heard some great things about this spot & decided to give it a try. The Moat Tea Room did not disappoint. We called ahead as I explained we would be popping along with our dog & would they accommodate us. I spoke with Kamal who kindly said that we could have the table by the door. We had such a lovely time here, such a great pit stop after exploring the cathedral. The cakes are delicious & the tea selection is excellent. We can highly recommend “The English Breakfast”. We had a lovely chat with Kamal who made us feel so welcome & we also made friends with other diners, such a welcoming place with great cakes! I’d highly recommend stopping here, love the old fashioned beams too! Great cakes & excellent service, a must visit when in Canterbury.

Super cute tea room with lovely welcoming staffs. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of scones but I finished these two scones by myself. This was the best scone in my life😍

Tasty homemade cakes and flavored tea. The half timbered building looks amazing from both inside and outside. It's a cozy place to relax and have yummy cakes with friends. Highlight of our day trip in Canterbury. I would definitely love to visit again. Their chocolate cake is definitely worth it. The price is quite reasonable. I loved their rose sencha green tea.
Afroza M — Google review
Quaintly atmospheric and cosy and very long standing in the city. Very weak 'Malabar' coffee that tasted stale, and cake that was certainly not today's. £13.50 without service charge for a speciality coffee, a latte and one slice of cake seems high average for the city. On the other hand the very young waiting were personable, and it was a Sunday afternoon.

Review: This cute coffee shop in Canterbury city centre is a gem! We ordered a flat white and a mocha, along with a blueberry croissant that was honestly the best we’ve ever had. The coffee was rich and perfectly balanced, and the pastry was flaky and bursting with flavor. We didn’t notice the rest of the food menu until after we sat down, but it all looked amazing—I’m sure it’s as delicious as what we tried. The decor is charming and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Canterbury!

A cozy cafe near the cathedral. Great coffee and a nice selection of sweet treats and toast/sandwiches. The staff are always lovely.

So happy to come across this pleasant little coffee shop in Canterbury. It is set in an ancient, characterful building close to the cathedral. Happily, the owners have resisted the urge to formulate a brightly lit tourist trap and have instead, taken the time to create a coffee shop with a beautiful ambiance, kind staff and quality ingredients. Prices are reasonable and the quality and colour of the cups and plates speaks of an attention to detail and care for their customers. Some nice views from the windows of the beautiful city of Canterbury. A well deserved 5 stars.

The Maypole blend is worth trying in itself - price is high but that reflects the quality of the coffee. The avocado toast is alright but there's not many food options (however that's no criticism, the main draw is the coffee). Lovely atmosphere as well and the staff are friendly. Would recommend a visit!

Such a lovely, cozy spot to enjoy a really good coffee. Everything here is top quality. I had a long black, a buttery croissant, and a delicious Jaffa cake—all fantastic. The staff were super kind too; I had a little issue with my wallet and they helped me connect to the Wi-Fi so I could sort it out. Plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Canterbury.

This little cafe is truly worthy of 5 stars. True student of the game. They do 1 thing and do it better than anyone else by a long way. I narrowed my coffee source down to three cafes in Canterbury based on types of bean and methods brewed. It turns out Garage coffee were the only one who truly understood the extraction process, preparation of milk and presentation. The result was a deliciously sweet cup of complexity. Bravo

It’s a cute coffee shop with such a comfortable vibe. I believe how small it is adds to the aesthetic. It even has an upstairs area (mini one). Came in for a couple of mochas with a friend and it was really chill. The mochas were made beautifully, and tasted great. Highly recommend, excited to try the pastries next.

Located at 43 Burgate in Canterbury, Burgate Coffee House is a popular spot known for its diverse range of coffee blends and customizable dishes. The cafe prides itself on catering to various dietary preferences including low-carb, vegan, and gluten-free options. Visitors can indulge in locally roasted fair-trade coffee beans paired with delectable homemade cakes, some of which are vegan and gluten-free.
Sat in a for a late lunch, ordered a gluten free pesto chicken sandwich and an iced oat chai latte. My friend got the grilled cheese with a flat white. Felt as though 15 quid was a bit expensive for my order - until the food was served! The sandwiches are massive and both my friend and I kept half for dinner. We both really enjoyed our meals! The staff were warm and welcoming, the cafe was relatively quiet for a Saturday at 12:45pm. There were a variety of cakes available as well, with a fair amount of gluten free and vegan options available. Staff clarified whether my gluten free sandwich order was due to an allergy or a preference. Overall, would recommend, especially for those with a gluten intolerance!

We were desperate for a good coffee and a local suggested this place. Located near the entrance to the cathedral (which was packed with students of all ages on excursions), we nestled into a table and ordered our long awaited our coffee. Looking at the soup a fellow diner was having I was somewhat jealous. Next time! Loved the quirkiness of this place with fun and interesting signage, cute decor and funky ambience. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good location. Lovely staff. We will return.

To be fair, my partner's coffee was good. Location is promising and accommodation is two tier, and quirky. My cappuccino was lukewarm, the cake tired and drying. Saw a staff member 'cleaning' a table with the palm of his hand: decided best strategy was to leave and not go back.
Trevor S — Google review
Real barista coffee, weighed as it should be! fully appreciate the iced drink options, ordered an iced americano - so many places don’t do enough ice or use very bitter / burnt coffee, but this was lovely. Very good. After sitting saw they sell Curve Coffee beans which is a favourite. Was tempted by the cakes, but didn’t try them this time. Would definitely come back.

Overall meh. It seems people like them because they were very busy. I've been twice and both were let downs. Extremely expensive for what you get. Coffee was terrible both times. Honestly didn't even taste like coffee. The staff were friendly and they had a good selection of vegan/gluten-free items which always gets a plus from me. Really enjoyed this cafe - it had a nice vibe to it and in particular the garden terrace at the back was a lovely sheltered spot to sit with grape vines hanging over the tables. It’s good standard cafe food and I would say it was better for food than the coffee, but enjoyable nonetheless. The service was great and the staff member couldn’t have done much more for us. She was friendly, chatty and attentive. Worth a visit. :)

Meal was good, the english breakfast and the big breakfast are particularly well made. Lost 2 stars cos of the service and the milkshakes. Good food and prices, conveniently located close to the city centre. I went to The Beano Cafe for a late morning breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, two slices of toast, a portion of chips and a can of fizzy pop. The cost was only £7.00. The chips were particularly nice, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I would recommend this cafe. If you found this review helpful, please click on the heart icon, thanks.

Standard cheap greasy spoon. The bacon was good but the sausage was like a cheap hotdog with no meat just filler.
Peter B — Google review
Canterbury is brimming with history and charm, but sometimes a hungry tourist needs a good breakfast to fuel their adventures. That's where the Beano Cafe swoops in, saving the day with a breakfast spread that's as mighty as Dennis the Menace' scraper bike. My inner child did a little jig when I saw the name, and the menu did not disappoint. I opted for the classic English brekkie, and let me tell you, it was a full-on feast for a champion. The sausage were juicy and plump, they burst with flavour in every bite. The egg was cooked as expected, their golden yolks begging to be mopped up with the accompanying toast. The bacon added a salty touch, while the baked beans offered a welcome touch of sweetness. But the real surprise was the fried bread. Golden and fluffy on the inside, it had a satisfyingly crispy exterior. It was the perfect vessel for scooping up beans, mopping up egg yolk, or simply savoring on its own. The toast, perfectly toasted and generously buttered, provided a more traditional option for those who prefer a less adventurous approach. The Beano Cafe isn't just about the food. The entire experience is a delightful homage to the world of Beano comic books. From the quirky decor to the friendly staff who seem to have stepped straight out of the pages, it injects a playful energy into the breakfast routine. Whether you're a Beano enthusiast or simply looking for a hearty and delicious breakfast in Canterbury, the Beano Cafe is a must-visit. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is fun, and it's the perfect way to start your day with a smile. Just be warned, this breakfast is fit for a hero, so come hungry!

Best place for breakfast, absolutely brilliant every time I visit. The coffee is the best I've tried in canterbury, not sure why it's so good but it is. I recently visited Longport cafe and had such a wonderful experience that I felt compelled to share. From the moment I walked in, the warm and cozy atmosphere immediately made me feel at ease. The soft lighting, rustic decor, and gentle background music created the perfect setting for both relaxing and catching up with friends. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. I ordered the avocado poached egg and a cappuccino, both of which exceeded expectations. The toast was perfectly crunchy and butter ,while the coffee had a rich, smooth flavour with the perfect amount of foam. What really stood out, though, was the service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They checked in without hovering and offered great recommendations with a smile. I walked into to another coffee shop (noisy, music blaring), yelled for a coffee and was bombarded with inane questions and I gave up. Then I saw the Café Nero, I walked in (quiet, calm, friendly) and I asked for “an ordinary coffee” and was asked one question: “Do you want milk with that?” ~ Perfect.

The cafe now serves its own roasted coffee from its roastery in Whitstable. Visitors can enjoy delicious cakes and quality coffee at this local gem. Additionally, there's another branch located inside the Ashford Designer Outlet, offering excellent breakfast options alongside their renowned lattes.
Delicious coffee! Best I’ve had in months! Batista was very lovely.

Nice lil coffee shop with your usual selection of coffee and cake. The rail track model adds a touch of uniqueness. Very good service.
Sherry X — Google review
Without doubt the best cup of coffee...ever! I take coffee decaffeinated but these beans loose nothing in the process. The result is a outstanding, deliciously smooth rich cup of decaf. The cappuccino was creamy and indulgent; a perfect accompaniment to the aromatic coffee. So much more than a cup of coffee! You must try it yourself! And don't be mistaken by a similar sounding sheepy brand: with this Lost Sheep coffee you'll be anything but lost (apart from being lost in coffee heaven!) Thank you, Lost Sheep.

Great coffee to go. Reasonably priced (£3.10) for a top notch oat flat white. Really cool little set up, they sell pods & other coffee products too.

Staff ALWAYS very polite and experts in making my coffee. I use them at least 5 days a week n highly recommend. Jim especially is lovely with a good chat, smiling face n good customer service. Seriously, don't waste your time going anywhere else!

Cosy coffee shop with good breakfast menu and strong coffee. Can sit outside on a sunny day in the tower center near the Cathedral Gate and enjoy your coffee.

Since trying Lost Sheep Coffee, I haven't visited anywhere else for a coffee. If you're after a coffee that's excellent quality and has had care and effort put in, this is the place for you. You should expect to pay slightly more than the big chains, but this is absolutely reflected in the taste and quality which in my eyes is a winner. As a freelancer I'm a huge fan of great seating in coffee shops. Somewhere for me to take my laptop, and have some time for myself with my emails. They have a range of different seating available in the Ashford Outlet shop, and also have some funky elephant chairs for kids. WIFI, delicious coffee and staff that are super friendly and attentive. . . It's a winner!

I keep paying this place a visit each time I stay in Canterbury over the last four years despite the fact I'm a speciality coffee fiend,I think it's down to the fact it's coffee is consistently excellent! Nuff said!

Boho is a charming spot known for its delightful vegetarian breakfast options and a diverse menu. The cafe offers a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, complete with an elegant garden area. While it may not be the most budget-friendly option, the quality of food and service is exceptional.
Very friendly staff, nice and upbeat cafe bar plus a beautiful stylish garden :)

Lovely vibrant interior. My boyfriend and I ordered two cortado coffees which were good along with a small glass of (£2.95) orange juice. Very disappointed at this price and size that it was concentrated not fresh. We are unlikely to return because of this as fresh juice makes a huge difference and there are a competitive range of cafes for breakfast in Canterbury.

This is a great place for a (veggie) breakfast. Great options on the menu. Good coffee and friendly staff. It's not cheap but the foodquality is excellent.

Nice querky restaurant in the middle of the city centre of Canterbury. The prices are reasonable !!

Went in on a quiet Saturday morning. 3 staff serving half a dozen tables. Still we had to wait a long time to order and then having ordered our drinks didn't arrive. New tables arrived and were served and still we waited. Staff chatting at the till even looked over but didn't notice we hadn't got our order of two soft drinks and two coffees. After 40 minutes we gave up and decided to leave. The manager seriously needs to get a grip on this place. Staff are way too laid back and not focussed on service. I can't comment on the quality of food and drink because they never arrived.

Went there for a coffee. Lovely place, decent prices, nice staff

The food here is simply exquisite. If you want something different from your usual sandwich or fish and chips, this is a great place to be! The dishes are big so be warned!! The service was excellent too! Will definitely be returning here!

This is the perfect place for lunch or dinner. Inviting and cosy, and with outdoor seating in the summer. The food is delicious and the staff are lovely. This a really quirky place and I would choose to eat here over any of the chain restaurants. You can just have drinks or you have food as well, they're really chilled. Please go, it's lovely.

Located in the heart of Canterbury, The Corner House is a 16th-century coaching inn that offers comfortable rooms with Tudor period details. The restaurant has been named Kent Restaurant of the Year multiple times and has earned 2 AA Rosettes for its food. Guests can enjoy freshly baked croissants delivered to their door each morning. The sympathetically decorated restaurant serves delicious dishes such as chicken liver parfait, roasted belly of pork, herb crumbed cod, and whole roast chicken for sharing.
A very very nice restaurant. Friendly personal, delicious Beef Wellington (so tender and beautifully baked meet), cozy atmosphere. We had a table with the kitchen view, which was entertaining, and we could see the attention the chef put to meals

This award winning restaurant serves the very best Sunday Roast. The quality of the meat offerings and the amazing vegetarian roast were matched by creative and amazingly tasty sides. If you visit The Cathedral on a Sunday, make a reservation for supper, an English ritual. If you take the high speed train with an anytime return from and to London, the cathedral visit capped with a truly amazing dinner makes for a rewarding side trip.

We stayed at the Corner house for our 25th wedding anniversary in the Tourtel room (Rupert the bear) beautiful room and a amazing bathroom, being on the busy road it's noisy at night but ear plugs are supplied. We ate at the corner house Saturday menu and Sunday dinner the food was wonderful, had a few cocktails which were lovely. Has own main door so you can come and go when ever you want. Enjoyed the area museum (which is free) and Cathedral(about £20 each but can use it as many times during the year) We will definitely be back to stay at the Corner House

Very nice stay here, celebrating my special birthday. Room was lovely, good size & very clean. The bathroom was very big and loved the decor. Would stay again. Breakfast did not cater for me with my wheat allergy, even though we told them in advance. Husband loved it though!

Stayed here for our son's graduation. It was a perfect location as only 5 min walk into Canterbury town centre. Staff were lovely. Chatty, friendly and attentive. Bed was comfy. Room was clean with En-Suite. Brekky was brought up to our room at 08.30 the next morning. Hot croissants, toast & jam, yogurt with fruit & granola. Yum! Room has a fridge with fresh water and a glass bottle of milk which was perfect with the decaf coffee & tea. Would recommend and definitely stay again.

The Lady Luck is a lively pub in Canterbury that transforms into a venue for alternative DJs, punk, and ska bands at night. The bar features a jukebox with punk, metal, and rock music and hosts frequent live music events. The menu offers rebellious options like chicken burgers with homemade honey rum BBQ sauce and roasted red peppers, as well as vegetarian choices such as BBQ pulled jackfruit burgers.

Lady Luck at Canterbury is a cozy Pub and a lively place in the evenings. They serve British classics along with vegetarian and vegan cuisine. We enjoyed Lager Beer, Cocktails, Fish & Chips, Onion Rings and Garlic Bread. They have indoor as well as outdoor seatings. The staff are friendly and helpful.

We stopped here for lunch and were absolutely blown away! The vegan options are incredible – so many dishes that I never usually get to have, which made choosing really exciting. It’s so refreshing to see a menu where everyone has plenty of choice. The food itself was delicious, especially the beer-battered onion rings (yes, vegan and absolutely amazing!). On top of that, the service was just delightful – everyone was so kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Dog friendly and lovely garden! Honestly, this is the perfect spot to come on a day out. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

13/11/21- Another lovely lunch with with my daughter today. We’re always made to feel very welcome and the staff and service is always excellent. Loving the homemade cakes. 13/04/21- Lovely lunch at Phoebes. Good range on menu, large sandwiches/baguette/panini selection. Salads, omelette and jacket potato’s and breakfast menu before 11.30. All reasonably priced. Delicious homemade cakes, perfect with my Americano. Fantastic customer service and the owner was lovely. 14/04/21- My 7 year old daughter was so happy with yesterday’s visit, she insisted we came back again today. The food and service is excellent again and the space is Covid secure with a lovely sun trap court yard. Lots of space and social distance with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended, well worth a visit.

What a gem! Located on the edge of the city center, not far from the Best Western hotel, Phoebe’s was an excellent choice for a hearty breakfast. The proprietor was warm and friendly, and we enjoyed our delicious, made-to-order breakfast sandwiches and scone in the pleasant garden in the back.
Margot A — Google review
My mum and I had the most wonderful lunch today at Phoebe’s Sandwich Shop and Café, and we’re still talking about how amazing it was! From the moment we booked, the service was incredible, so much thought went into preparing our table. We even arrived early, but were warmly welcomed and made to feel completely cared for. We went for the afternoon tea for two, and it was honestly perfect. Unlimited tea, four generously filled chunky sandwich quarters each, a couple of big slices of three different types of homemade cakes each, an utterly moreish sausage roll each, and a scone each with clotted cream and jam. The sandwiches were stuffed to the brim with quality ingredients, the cakes were divine, and everything was clearly made with love and care - the sort of spread you imagine when you picture the perfect homemade afternoon tea. The owner is such a lovely lady, we had a great chat, and she made us feel right at home. The cafe itself is spotless, welcoming, and a great place to sit and chat for hours over a cuppa. The crockery for the afternoon tea was charming and made the whole experience feel extra special. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. We couldn’t even finish it all, so they happily provided a box for us to take the rest home. I’ve worked at CCCU for years and walked past Phoebe’s countless times, and I’m so glad we finally came in. We’ll definitely be back very soon, highly recommended!

My Wife and I had been going into Phoebes for quite some time, always enjoying the lovely lunch selection, afternoon tea and amazing cakes on offer. We loved it all so much we asked the wonderful owner (Lesley) if she could make our cakes for our wedding. She was more than happy to accept and provided us with the most wonderful wedding cake and cupcakes, they really stole the show on the big day. Lesley made the whole process really easy on us and was happy to work with whatever we wanted, we even got to do a little cake tasting! We are so grateful for everything Lesley has done for us and our big day, and we will always be happy customers returning back to Phoebes for more sandwiches and afternoon teas!

Lovely food and setting. Got seated in a cell and really made a great eating environment. Food was amazing - super tasty and full of flavour. Tried a bit from all of the choices and even my picky girls tucked in. Would highly recommend it. Service was exceptional as well - attentive and friendly.

What an interesting venue! We had an excellent time with our own space for our karaoke function so that we could make as much noise as we wanted without disturbing other patrons... and we did! Great food and drinks menu and friendly, welcoming staff. If you could have thrown in some air con, it would have been literally perfect! (I know, listed building; I'm just saying it was hot) Fantastic time had by all! Highly recommend for any adult function or event.

Went out for brunch with some friends and had a good time. Had the truffle honey chicken burger, which was absolutely delicious! Packed with flavor and the portion size was fantastic. Good options for gluten intolerant people too, the bun i had with my burger was gluten free! Had a side of skin on fries too, tasty with the right amount of salt on them. Highly recommend the outside seating- the sun was out so it was a great view to have. Massive shoutout to jake the head chef.

Café Turquoise, located at 31 Palace St in Canterbury, is a charming coffee shop known for its excellent coffee and delightful pastries. The café offers a variety of house blend coffees and loose leaf teas, along with an assortment of cakes and chocolates beautifully displayed in the window. The cozy atmosphere and inviting decor make it a perfect spot to enjoy a cup of their renowned coffee or indulge in some delectable treats.
One of the best coffee ever, my partner vouched, and I absolutely loved the Cannoli. Sicilian Lemon Cannoli was a treat and my partner tried the Pistachio Cannoli, which he loved. It is a delightful and quirky little cafe in the old town streets of Canterbury. If you love nostalgia and Italian style, Cafe, this is the place to be.
Richard A — Google review
Coconut cannoli was delicious, but not your typical cream cheese-y cannoli. It had more like a frosting which contrasted nicely with the dry but fresh shell. I got a couple of the little wrapped marshmallow tea cakes he had in there too
Brianna L — Google review
beautiful shop but the service is so poor / depressing even + it seems they’d rather not have customers… Cannoli‘s were quite tasty. Coffee was acceptable.
Tobi D — Google review
I went in wanting to buy a selection of pastries for my sister in law to celebrate her passing her driving test. However, quickly changed my mind after speaking to the man serving me. I really felt like he didn’t want me to buy anything - that’s the best way to describe the interaction. I got a salted caramel lobster tail - both pastry and filling were stale. The filling was in fact hard. Didn’t taste like any other lobster tail pastry I’ve had before. I also got a couple of pistachio cannoli - they were better. The pastry had the crunch the other one lacked. It was nice. They look better than they taste, which is a shame.

Awful service felt like I was being discriminated against!!! Exactly the same day last year we visited in a group of 5 and bought a box of macaroons. I remembered it tasted nice and therefore when I visited Canterbury Cathedral again I came and would like to get a macaroon again. This time we went into the shop and asked for the price of a macaroon, the guy pointed us to the menu and asked us to check ourselves. It clearly stated 2 pounds each. We chose the favours and ordered 2 pieces. Then the guy said we could only order a box of 8 or 12 with the WORST tone and facial expressions. How come it didn't mention on the menu and the refused to communicate? Why as a customer I need to face this attitude? We did not order anything and we WILL NOT come again!!!

One of the best coffees here in Canterbury. The focus here is on the coffee bean. With small sweet pastries the pleasure is supported. The small coffee bar is comfortably furnished and invites you to linger. Those in a hurry can take the coffee with them.

Another “fond” spot in town. Very friendly service. Great coffee and cakes.
Danny — Google review
I have had a request from fond to write this review. I love the coffee at fond. It really was somewhere I looked forward to going every week. It was a lovely place to go chat on the comfy sofa and have a delicious cake and coffee. But things seemed to have changed a bit. Sadly last time I went in I was given a coffee that was definitely not a flat white. The milk was not micro foamed and was watery. I put it down to an inexperienced barista. I was with someone I was meeting for the first time so didn’t want to create a fuss or embarrass them by sending the coffee back. One thing that I found difficult was their cake prices were never displayed. I feel I would prefer the prices of their baked goods to be displayed clearly so I don’t have to ask. Last time we went in the cakes had changed and were quite a bit smaller than before so we didn’t stay as I didn’t want to have to ask about prices again. It was also disappointing that the sofas in the back had been removed. It’s nice to go there and have privacy rather than at the tables which are quite close and crowded. I hope this helps clarify my review.
