Black Horse Inn (Canterbury) Ltd offers casual rooms in a pair of brick townhouses, providing free breakfast, a guest kitchen, and a patio. The pet-friendly hotel is well-located near Canterbury West Station and within walking distance to the town and University of Kent campus. Guests can enjoy clean and organized rooms with necessary amenities, including ensuite shower and toilet. The self-check-in process is convenient, while the cozy bedrooms are beautifully furnished with useful facilities like a small fridge.
We had a lovely experience at Black Horse Inn! Rooms were very clean and organized with all necessary amenities. Breakfast was included in our chosen stay through booking.com and it was excellent with various options. Location is quite decent as it's close to Canterbury West Station. Town is a 7 min walk down hill (can't miss the site of West gate) and University of Kent campus is a 25 min walk up hill. The St Dunstan's bus stop is 3-5 min walk from the in which would get you to campus within 5 mins. Above all, we encountered the most lovely staff. Thank you to all of you for this pleasurable stay! We appreciate the hospitality and kindness that was showed.

This is a excellent inn, that is in a great location in Canterbury. The staff and host are so warm, welcoming. The rooms are lovely and afford a nice, quiet stay with excellent breakfast. If we're in Canterbury, we'll come back here
Mellita D — Google review
We have just spent a night at the Black Horse Inn... great quirky little B&B which was a former pub. Our bedroom no 1 was downstairs with access to the courtyard garden... very nice to have in Summer. The room/ bathroom very clean. Pristine white sheets/ Bathroom towels. Tea/ coffee and TV really all we needed and decorated very nicely. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful... and cooked to order... and plenty of continental choices also. They're is also an option to help yourself to a fridge in the dining room if you need an earlier breakfast. We ordered coffee with breakfast and fresh coffee in it's own cafetiere was provided - nice touch as well as a pot of tea. Great central location. We parked for free just round the corner - would recommend

I absolutely loved my stay at The Black Horse. The location is very central, the breakfast was delicious, but most importantly I had the best nights sleep of my life. The bed was so comfy that I have asked them to let me know where they bought it. Couldn't have had a better stay.

Just completed my stay at the Black Horse in very very dissapointing on the stay. photoes of the ouside not match the photoes in reality. at night no lighting at all on the outside very scary. The door to enter on arrival you need a code the door is very bad looking condition. completely off puting. it used to be inn and now it completely run down. The reception area used to be the bar very shabby and need tender care. with no managmnet or staff available. wanted to talk with the manager or owner never avilable and the owner dose not care less atttitude just take your money. very cold building The heating is set very very low in the bedrooms or not working at all and some radiators not working with sealed thermostates. Bathroom very small and claustrophobic not suitable if your on the larger size. The entrance to our bedroom had a sky glass on the roofing which was not sealed and covered with plastic. ratteled at night with the wind could easy crack and fall on you causing very serious accident. see images in the photoes. the bed very small. The Doors leading to the garden have bolts that are not locking the doors not safe to leave valuables and sleeping. overall very bad experiance. much nicer hotels in the center of canterburry for the same price with much better condition and better service and value for money

Really enjoyed my stay - the Black Horse is ideally located, close to the station & an easy walk to the town centre. My room was lovely - very clean, with everything I needed & a very comfy bed. I slept extremely well, unusually for me! Breakfast was excellent & the staff were so helpful & thoughtful. All in all I would highly recommend.

Nestled in the heart of Canterbury, the House of Agnes is a charming bed and breakfast that beautifully marries history with modern comfort. This enchanting establishment dates back to the 15th century and has connections to Charles Dickens, who immortalized it in his novel 'David Copperfield.' The main house features eight elegantly designed rooms, each uniquely themed after iconic cities around the globe, while an additional eight rooms are located in the historic stables.
Just arrived home from our wonderful stay at the fabulous House of Agnes. Everything was just perfect. Upon arrival we pulled into the car park and had our own EV charging point, and went to reception. We were greeted by a lovely staff member who explained what to expect at our stay . The building, which is hundreds of years old is full of charm and character. We were led to our lovely & modern apartment, which is in a small row with its own part of the garden. A comfy bed ,good shower and drink making facilities. A big communal garden just opposite, perfect for soaking up the evening sunshine. The location is perfect for exploring Canterbury"s delights of which there are many. A fabulous stay made perfect thanks to the House of Agnes. Can't thank you guys enough !!

What a find right in the middle of Canterbury. A quirky old coach house, well looked after with friendly and accommodating staff. We had one of the Stable rooms in the beautiful grounds which was clean and well equipped. The gardens are well maintained and provide outside seating on nice days. There is a live railway line behind the Stable rooms, however this did not spoil our stay. Breakfast options were good with Continental and English choices and a dish of the day. Finally a very useful 'Honesty Bar' providing drinks and snacks. A most enjoyable stay.

We stayed in the Paris Room over the bank holiday weekend. It was so lovely, we absolutely adored our stay. We have stayed before in the Marrakesh room before and equally loved that. But the Paris Room is really special, with its oak beams and wonderful bath. The staff are amazingly helpful, the location is great and the atmosphere is perfect. We will be coming back again.

Room: Mumbai. If you're looking for quaint, this is it--and this is exactly what we wanted to experience. The stairs up to the second floor are crooked, and uneven, and you have to be careful--but you are getting what you should from such an old building. That said, there's no reason that the modern plumbing in a highly rated hotel shouldn't work right. Our shower drained extremely slowly, and you had to stand in the dirty/soapy water for several minutes while the water was off, just so it wouldn't spill out into the rest of the room. If this shower had been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived, the housekeeper would/should have noticed. We chose not to report this during our stay because we didn't want plumbers marching around our room to address something that should have been dealt with before. The Venetian blind in our room were a mess, and need to be thrown in the rubbish and replaced. I advice the owner(s) to sleep a few nights in each room and see what their rooms are like. The day time hostess was not fun to deal with as she came across as defensive and confused. The night host---he was much more friendly and relaxed. The lounge has an honor-system bar, so that was nice. The large yard out back is also a nice place to chill out. Note that the people who hang around the street in this part of the town are loud and boisterous, and at night we heard several loud arguments and an actual fight.

Lovely, lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was wonderful, lots of original features and beautifully furnished. The bed was very comfortable. Rooms are all individually themed and the whole hotel has a unique, original and quirky feel to it. They have a very well stocked 'honesty bar' with a comfotable lounge area. Breakfast was delicious, we has a cooked breakfast, there was also a great selection of cereal, yoghurts, and fruit provided for self service. I highly recommend the House of Agnes and I look forward to our next visit.

We love this place and have stayed many times, the themed rooms are well equipped and comfortable, the staff are lovely as is the breakfast, there is also parking on site, which is a huge bonus in Canterbury. (The honesty bar is very well stocked). Highly recommended.

With free WiFi available throughout the property, staying connected is effortless. I truly recommend this Bed and Breakfast if you’re looking for a home away from home. My aunt and I stayed here from 3-5th of June, and we had an absolutely fantastic stay. Susan and Andy Hopper were lovely hosts! The breakfast was simple (have an egg allergy so not their fault), but filling! The house is less than a mile (I think) walk from the town’s center. Also, they have a fridge in the dining area so if you have any take-away, you can store it there. One caution for guests is to make sure you don’t bring a massive suitcase like us haha, but it wasn’t an much of an issue since we had the first room. Also, a special and warm thank you to Andy and Susan for making my birthday so special and truly never felt so much love and kindness from anywhere else. I can’t wait to come back to Canterbury!

Absolutely amazing place to stay and fantastic service. Looked after well by the lovely Susan. Ideal location, room was clean and food was nice. Definitely stay again next time.

Cozy B&B, quite close to Canterbury town center. Wifi were ok, it were clean, but there were no Breakfast and i couldn’t find informations about Breakfast except that it would cost 10£ per person. Susan is very helpful. Typical english breakfast can be found 3 walking minutes in Solo Cafe.
Sören D — Google review
Place was far away from the city centre, rooms were small as well as the bed. This made it a bit uncomfortable. Although the room was very clean, and welcoming. Also the price according to the room and location felt a bit too much. Should have been at-least 30% cheaper. Overall okay room would not expect a lot from it.
Kaushik G — Google review
Susan was a wonderful host and was very helpful. Room very clean, good breakfast, good location 15 mins walk from town centre. Canterbury is worth visiting. Would recommend Carena.
Trish D — Google review
Very good B&B, the owners are just so lovely, the breakfast is delicious and freshly made, it's a 10-15 minute walk to Canterbury city centre. I felt really welcomed there. Perfect for a short stay.
Markus S — Google review
My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in June all I can say is it was fantastic. The breakfast grilled and healthy, porridge to die for and breakfast all in all just the best. Debbie the owner could not do enough for us. The house is homely clean and comfortable. Home from Home thanks Debbie & Baz

Nice B&B, the owner is very friendly and the (english) breakfast is good. The position is good, you can reach the town centre in a 10-15 minutes walk. The room was ok.

Pinocchio's Restaurant is a charming Italian eatery located near Castle Street in Canterbury. The rustic dining room is adorned with picturesque paintings of Italian harbors, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Owned by Massimo Fierro, who hails from Naples, the restaurant offers a traditional menu that showcases the influence of southern Italian cuisine. The monthly specials menu features an array of classic pizza and pasta dishes, prepared using locally sourced ingredients from Kent as well as authentic imports from Italy.
A real genuine Italian restaurant. Food was freshly cooked using fresh ingredients and extremely tasty. Mature staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend 👍

Excellent Italian restaurant in Canterbury. The dishes are absolutely delicious, prepared with the best ingredients sourced directly from Italy. The staff is very kind, helpful, and thoroughly professional. Highly recommended.

Best Italian restaurant in Canterbury!💗 Friend and I heard amazing things about this place so we decided to try it out and were unbelievably impressed - we had the gorgonzola gnocchi (best gnocchi of our lives) and the pizza “napoli”, followed by the tiramisu and creme brulee for dessert. Everything was incredible and we cannot wait to come back again to try their other dishes (although we’ll definitely be ordering the gnocchi again too). Service were professional and very lovely and the food came quickly✨

Wonderful Italian restaurant with a varied menu. From specials that included fresh ravioli with porcini and truffle to delicious pizzas. And very reasonable. The desserts are also generous, and cocktails are also on the menu. Great service too, thank you.

Outstanding service, immaculate table setting, and well-prepared, flavourful dishes. Excellent value combined with a calm, quiet atmosphere that made conversation easy. Will certainly return on my next visit to Canterbury

Very nice and cozy Italian restaurant. The server was very friendly and energetic. However, the food arrived 40 mins after ordering and wasn’t the best. Good food, but for the price and authentic style advertised, I expected better . Reserve in advance. Would still recommend for date night or cozy night out with friends

This cute little restaurant is just tucked away outside the city centre. Very nice ambience inside. Pizza was great and had unique toppings, the seafood pasta could use more flavour. The environment could definitely be improved with a bit of background music because it was very very quiet inside and you’re able to hear everyone else’s conversations.

The Canterbury Tales is a relaxed and cozy pub with an open log fire, serving real ales, cocktails, and comfort food. It's located in one of England's historic towns where visitors can follow in the footsteps of both the knights who clashed with Archbishop Becket and Geoffrey Chaucer's pilgrims. The town offers various activities for all ages, including interactive museums like The Canterbury Tales and the Roman Museum, as well as family-friendly cafes and eateries.
Great place. I go from time to time and am never disappointed. This time I arrived in Ceilidh night. Which was completely awesome.

The beer was fine, but leaving the door open on a cold night was not a particularly welcoming atmosphere. No food is served. Very handy if you're visiting the Marlowe theatre opposite.
Barry D — Google review
Service was fine but the pub stunk of damp, was very cold and the women’s toilets were mouldy. Not enjoyable for pre-theatre drinks. Could be a cosy little pub if it was cared for.
Jemma B — Google review
It’s not sure if it’s a pub or a disco/nightclub. No ales available. £6.40 a pint! You’re having a laugh! We’re in Canterbury, not London. One mouthful of substandard ipa and left. Please let someone who actually cares about their clientele take over.
Thomas R — Google review
Wondered into the Canterbury tales pub as just a stones throw from the marlowe theatre. Several pumps had run out so not much choice of beers. Pub was completely dead. Looked like the gents toilets was out of order so a bit of paper on the womens said unisex toilets. Was really cold inside the pub and smelt of dogs.

Great location and simple in design and offerings. Definitely more of a "student vibe" but have to say they try their best to accommodate all. Stick to what's on tap and don't deviate to cocktails and you'll be fine!

Country food restaurant
The Goods Shed is a unique all-day restaurant located in an 1830s railway goods shed, offering a picturesque view of the daily market. The establishment features its own bakery, butchery, and an open kitchen. Visitors can indulge in dishes made from locally sourced produce available at the market downstairs, including Kentish lamb, cider, cobnut oil, and slow-proven bread from Enzos bakery.
Don’t let the multi-vendor “shed” fool you. This is top notch British cooking with smart service. Our John dory was a silky, smooth delicate plate of goodness, accompanied with the most balanced unobtrusive sauce; and the lamb saddle was as tasty as ever, with perfectly cooked carrots and beetroot. Quality and care is a staple here, exemplifying local produce. The team clicks and seamlessly move around the elevated platform with cheerfulness. This was a pleasant surprise lunch for us while visiting Canterbury. Would come back just for another Michelin level lunch here. Keep going, team Goods Shed.
Sani A — Google review
Farmers’ Market Meets Honest Cooking Had lunch today at The Goods Shed, a rustic restaurant set inside a lively indoor farmers’ market in Canterbury—and the experience was both charming and satisfying. As soon as we ordered, the starters and bread arrived quickly. The mussels in lovage cream were a real highlight—incredibly fresh and flavorful, with a light herbaceous sauce that brought out the natural sweetness of the shellfish. The grilled squid was equally impressive, tender with just the right amount of char, paired beautifully with a zesty green sauce. These dishes set the tone for a promising meal. The complimentary bread was served warm and fresh—simple, but comforting. However, there was a bit of a wait (around 30 minutes) before the mains arrived. But the wait was worth it for the lamb leg. Cooked to perfection, it was beautifully tender and melt-in-the-mouth, accompanied by a creamy cauliflower purée and cauliflower salad that balanced the richness of the meat. On the other hand, the brandade fishcake was a bit underwhelming—mild in flavor and lacking the depth I had hoped for. The real charm of The Goods Shed isn’t just in the food—it’s the whole atmosphere. You’re dining inside a working farmers’ market, surrounded by local produce, cheeses, artisan bread, and specialty stalls. After your meal, a stroll through the market is a must—it feels like part of the experience. ✅ A great spot for families, couples, or friends looking to enjoy seasonal food with a sense of place. Highly recommended for those who love fresh, local, and honestly prepared food in a warm, market-style setting.

Nice cozy restaurant, an unplanned candlelit dinner with my husband after exploring Canterbury the whole day. We are lucky to have a table for us as we walked in without any reservations. Had a good meal, the Raspberry sorbet was a win! I’m honestly obsessed with the candle holder the entire time 😍 Lovely place to unwind and have a quiet and relaxing dinner.

Loved The Goods Shed. Had such an excellent meal in the restaurant with some really tasty and unusual food combinations. Some really nice vegetable dish choices together with meat, fish and chicken. Also brought some local produce. Would thoroughly recommend.

What a lovely place! We enjoyed a great dinner here! The place itself is amazing - it has a beautiful farmers' market, a pub and a restaurant inside. Very special dishes made all with local ingredients (and a lot of love). The service is really good. I'd recommend to make a reservation in advance, we went Friday night and it was full.
Drusila O — Google review
Such a lovely place to eat, you can really taste that fresh farm goodness in every bite. The food feels like it’s made with very high-quality ingredients, and the service was warm and amazing, making the whole experience feel extra comforting.
Kim T — Google review
Let’s be honest – it’s a bit off the beaten tourist track in Canterbury. That said, giving it 15 minutes of your time seems worth it at first glance. As soon as we sat down, I joked that this experience would go down in history thanks to me. Sadly, as time went on, a few doubts started to creep in. In the end though, it’s the flavour, the taste and the quality of the food that really win you over – making this place well worth checking out. Shame about a few slip-ups with the service, otherwise they’d have deserved the golden buzzer -))
Francesco Z — Google review
I chose the Wild goose to get breakfast. I ordered an extra hot latte. Asked about the greens on the eggs Florentine he said it was chard, so I opted for the eggs with salmon on sourdough bread and a side of bubble. The latte was not extra hot, and the scrambled eggs were nice and soft topped with capers and smoked salmon which was tasty and from the fishmonger on the stall opposite. The sourdough bread was from the baker in the stall next to the Wild Goose. I'm looking forward to coming back soon.

Cote Brasserie is a modern all-day french restaurant chain serving regional specialities and classic favourites in the city of Canterbury. They offer a breakfast set menu with delicious orange or cloudy apple juice, as well as a variety of lunch and dinner options. There's also a delightful brunch available on weekends from 9am to 1pm. Highchairs and wheelchair access are readily available, alongside free wifi. With an extensive wine list and attentive service, Cote Brasserie is perfect for any occasion!
I recently had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at this fantastic French restaurant, and it was an experience I won't soon forget. The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and truly made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the black pudding. It was cooked to absolute perfection, with a rich, savory flavour that was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The texture was just right—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside—and it paired beautifully with the rest of the breakfast. Every bite was a revelation, showcasing the chef’s skill in elevating a classic dish to new heights. The atmosphere was equally delightful, with a warm, inviting setting that made for a perfect start to the day. Whether you’re a fan of traditional French cuisine or simply looking for an outstanding breakfast, this restaurant is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and indulge in more of their culinary delights!

unfortunately I can't praise either the place or the food because of how dirty it is restaurant ,the amount of dust of 1cm ,dirty lamps inside on the table where the food is placed, the layer of dust and dirt on the tables and rest of the food in the corners it’s old dirt and it is terrifying. If there is such an amount of dirt in the room, what must be happening in the kitchen, everything is flying in the air, the restaurant must be sparkling clean, it was a terrible stay there and left a terrible bad taste. Complaint to the manager to no avail, and reporting to the Coty company also without their response to this situation. That’s ruined our family day out . I feel sick after eating there once I spotted dust from being bored after waiting 50 minutes for mains For me it’s not acceptable. I report to manager but he’s reaction was not accurate to situation . Other then that costumer service was friendly and good tasty food if not fact of how dirty it is we Woolf come back now defo will not .

Had a decent little 3 course meal here. Nice setting on a lovely day! Food was pretty decent and well prepared. Only downfall was the wait between courses…..especially the last one! 👀 Anyway I’d probably go back and I’d definitely recommend it 🎯

I simply can’t give this experience anymore than one star as my celebrations were ruined as soon as we’d sat down for our booking. I had high hopes for this dinner as there were a lot of menu options for my family and previous experiences at other branches were always positive but Cote in Canterbury is not the place to go if you’re wanting to celebrate something special. My family and I had booked this restaurant to end an amazing day of graduating from university, but sadly there was no recognition (though we had written this in our booking) and we felt ignored by our server for quite a while with a long wait for a drinks order, no checking back if we liked our food and having to ask for someone to order more drinks. The restaurant wasn’t even busy. Food was forgotten and the quality wasn’t great either - if we had the opportunity to raise these issues we would’ve but there was no chance to, as our server was nowhere to be seen. I only hope that other students who visited this restaurant had a better experience than me.

Very tasty food/drinks and very friendly staff. Positive: The energy content of the dishes is stated on the menu. Our expectations were met to our complete satisfaction. Thanks to everyone involved 😊

OVERVIEW The food was just OK, a mixture of hit and miss on each plate! PLUS + French-style restaurant with classic comfort food options. + The duck elevated the "confit duck à l'orange" to a 4*. It was moist and juicy of such top quality it could be enjoyed by itself. The braised cabbage was overly sweet, and the gratin was ok. + The “garden breakfast" was at a 3* level. The mushroom patty was of note, the most convincing meat substitute! + The fresh berries“french toast” was at a 3* level. The toast and the toppings were ok, topped with a generous potion of fresh fruit. + Formally welcoming and friendly staff. Michael, a senior member of staff, was the most hospitable and always visible. + Hand sanitisers were placed throughout the restaurant. + Walk-in availability. + Reasonably priced. MINUS - The interior of the restaurant was somewhat run down; therefore, it could benefit from a renovation. - The restaurant could also benefit from a quick, hassle-free table QR code payment method, i.e., the "Sunday" payments app. ORDER HISTORY Main: * Confit Duck À L'Orange Breakfast: * Garden Breakfast * Fresh Berries & Vanilla Crème Fraîche

This Côte delivers on its promise. We had a good lunch at a reasonable price. The restaurant was buzzing when we were there on a Tuesday lunchtime. Good service, friendly staff.

Bill's Canterbury Restaurant is a contemporary European eatery that offers separate menus for breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner. The staff are known for their bright and friendly service and they even offer a dog snack menu. The Buttermilk Chicken Burger and Seafood Linguine mains are highly recommended, served hot and fresh with delicious flavors. Bill's also offers a popular bottomless brunch with options for free-flowing fizz or cocktails.
This was my second time visiting this restaurant, and it was just as wonderful as the first. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect place to enjoy a nice meal. A special shout-out to Antonio, our server, who provided outstanding service. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality these days. Highly recommended – I’ll definitely be back again soon!

I had such a wonderful experience dining at Bills! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. But what really made the evening unforgettable was Romy, our waiter. Romy was incredible— so attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about making sure we had a great time. They made excellent recommendations, checked in at just the right moments, and had this effortless charm that made the whole experience feel special. Honestly, Romy is a gem and a big reason why I’ll definitely be coming back. If you're thinking about visiting, do it — and ask for Romy if you can. You won’t regret it!

Food is very delicious and good price. We are very satisfied!! We ordered set menu. We chose Cauliflower soup, smoked salmon pate, mackerel beetroot. & squash salad, chargrilled chicken. We quite loved them. Coconut milk late and coconut milk flat white were also our favorite! The most stunning thing is the service!! Antonio and Rosie are very friendly and thoughtful!! Their hospitality is very heartwarming:) After eating set menu, we were almost full but we wanted to order pancake, then they offered us smaller options!! That was very helpful. Thank you very much!!! I highly recommend!!

It was my first time in this restaurant and the experience was really enjoyable. I particularly appreciated the gluten free menu with many choices available. Amelia was our server and she took great care of us. Would definitely come back and recommend it!

Had a great visit to Bill’s in Canterbury! Antonio was our server and he was really friendly and attentive. Started off with a pot of tea which was lovely, then had the Ultimate Brunch Burger and the Steak, Egg & Chips – both were tasty and well cooked. Also loved that they offer 20% off with UNiDAYS for students. Great food, great service, and good value!

We had a delightful lunch here. So much to choose from, and the prices were quite reasonable. Quick turnaround on our order, and the staff were very friendly. Pictured are the Big Brunch and shrimp cocktail.

Went here for lunch one Sunday. The server was wonderful, I believe her name was Rasa/Rosa. The shared starter was really nice and set us up for a good meal. Unfortunately, even though the burger was presented well, it was average at best, not very much taste. In theory it sounded great, bacon, fried egg and lots of avocado. It didn't live up to the expectations. The fries were good and the meal wasn't overly expensive in total. I would go back but I would be ordering a different main other than the brunch burger.

I ordered the chicken shawarma plate based on recommendations, and it was absolutely delicious, full of rich, distinctive flavors. Romy was also very friendly and welcoming. Overall, great service and great food.

The Refectory Kitchen is a beloved casual dining spot in Canterbury, known for its comforting homemade food and great coffee. It has been a staple of the city's food scene for years, attracting students looking for a revitalizing breakfast or brunch after a night out. The eatery takes pride in using locally-sourced ingredients and offers an array of dishes including exotic sandwich fillings and house-cured bacon.
Can't fault this delightful restaurant. Ordered drinks and food which was ready pretty quickly despite being busy. Food was great quality with a service to match with happy and conscientious staff. Really enjoyable

Food was good, bacon was a bit salty. Baked beans were good, not too sweet or salty, with lovely tomato sauce. Vibe is the reason we were there. Service was nice, care and made sure you were well served.

It was a good start to the day to have brunch at Refectory Kitchen. I enjoyed my pancakes and hot chocolate, largely because of the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. They greeted me warmly with no wait time despite having a busy morning. Then patiently recommended food choices. Throughout the meal, they checked on me twice to make sure eveything was fine. To the pretty and efficient-working staff, thank you for your hard work!

We’ve been at the Reflectory Kitchen on a Sunday morning in August 2025 and had a tasty English breakfast. Opens at 8:00 h! Recommendation!

We went this on Sunday evening. It was a little bit crowded, we have to wait for 20 minutes. But it was worth. I ordered smoked salmon and avocado. There are boiled eggs, salmon, cucumbers and a lot of avocados on a toast. The taste of vinegar was excellent.

Went to The Refectory Kitchen for breakfast — staff were really welcoming and friendly. Got there early so plenty of tables, but it filled up fast! Great menu with lots of choice. I had the English breakfast (delicious) and my wife had the pancakes, which looked and tasted amazing. Very popular spot — we’ll definitely be going back! Parking is about five minutes away next to the train station. It’s in the old part of the city, so wheelchair access is limited with stairs at the entrance, though staff would likely help. There’s also an outdoor seating area for warmer days.

The Old City Bar is a charming pub located just outside the famous city walls of Canterbury. It's a perfect escape from the bustling crowds, offering a traditional bar with a great selection of local drinks. The tavern, owned by Charles Smythe, features a large garden and serves up classic pub dishes like burgers and fish and chips. Recently refurbished by Shepherd Neame, it strikes the right balance between traditional and contemporary.
Very friendly staff. We loved the wings, nachos, chips, cod, and chips, and curry. The live music was great. Our party member with a stick managed to handle the few steps without difficulty. There was table tennis outside which both adults and kids enjoyed. The Friday was busy but didn't feel crowded. The Tuesday evening was quiet

We've been to Canterbury many times but only just recently discovered The Old City Bar. Tucked away in a side street it's definitely worth seeking out. Inside is large and comfortable but outside is where this place really excels. Whether it is the largest beer garden in Canterbury is anyone's guess but it's a lively space and very very popular with Canterbury's student population. We stayed for food which wasn't bad either.

We recently held our presentation and awards evening at The Old City in Canterbury, and it was truly a fantastic experience from start to finish. The venue itself is charming, stylish, and full of character—perfect for creating a memorable atmosphere for a special occasion. A huge thank you to Simon, who was instrumental in helping us organise the event. He was incredibly accommodating, kind, and went out of his way to ensure everything ran smoothly. His attention to detail and genuine care made the planning process stress-free and enjoyable. The rest of the staff were just as amazing—professional, friendly, and always on hand to help with anything we needed throughout the night. It was clear they all take real pride in what they do. Thank you so much, we will be back.

Due to a wonderful barman, we cancelled our meal reservation and stayed for a fantastic meal of halloumi fries, wings and loaded nachos. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere and reasonable pricing for a city pub with such close locations to the cathedral. Edit: after revisiting, we found out the barman is called Jude so shout out to him. Also thanks to Simon who made us feel so welcome on our second visit. Will definitely be back when in the area

Nestled in the enchanting cathedral city of Canterbury, Harriet House Bed and Breakfast offers a delightful retreat for both business travelers and leisure seekers. This charming B&B features bright, simple rooms equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi and ample parking. Guests can indulge in a hearty full English breakfast that is often described as the highlight of their stay. Just a leisurely 15-minute stroll along the picturesque riverside leads you to the heart of historic Canterbury, where shops and amenities await.
The Harriet House Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful place to stay. The hosts, Heidi and Paul, are fantastic. They always seem genuinely happy, which brightened my day. The rooms are just perfect – very clean and equipped with everything one might need. One of the highlights is definitely the breakfast. It was the best B&B breakfast I’ve ever had. The main course is freshly cooked, and many of the extras like granola and jam are homemade. All in all, the Harriet House is the perfect place to stay in Canterbury. You can really feel the love and care that went into creating this B&B.

This is a very inviting place with a relaxing vibe. It's in a quiet area but still close to the hub-bub of the "tourist" area without the noise and congestion. It's a lovely inn too. The hosts, Paul and Heidi, work very hard to personalize your stay. One orders their breakfast the night before and there are many choices. The breakfast is hot and fresh and the food is high quality. It was the best breakfast I've had in England over 4 weeks and 6 cities. They provide filtered water, coffee and tea and a mini refridge en-suite. My room was very comfortable, had a nice bed and fantastic shower. I was able to walk everywhere I needed to go with no more than 20-30 minute walks. The West Canterbury train is about a kilometer too.l I look forward to returning to Canterbury and the Harriet House. Highly recommended.
Howard M — Google review
I had a lovely stay at Harriet House recently. Heidi and Paul are helpful, personable hosts and their B&B is the perfect place to stay for a visit to Canterbury. It's a 15-20 minute serene walk along the pretty canal to the Cathedral and into town. The B&B is very clean, comfortable and quiet and breakfast was plentiful! Loved the fresh fruit salad. I will undoubtedly be staying there again on my next visit.
Penny — Google review
I booked to stay at Harriet House with my bridal party on the weekend of my wedding. The rooms were stunning, clean and had great amenities. Heidi and Paul were amazing hosts and went above and beyond to make our time there special. I can't thank them enough and would definitely stay again.
Hannah D — Google review
This was a Rick Steves recommendation and it was amazing! Paul and Heidi who operate the B&B are absolutely amazing and so accommodating. Rooms were beautiful, modern and spacious. Location is great with a lovely walk along the river to town and walking distance to train station. For those driving, the included free parking in a secured lot is a serious bonus - we parked and didn’t move the car until we left! Breakfast is exceptional as well - best food I’ve had at a B&B ever, rivaling a great breakfast restaurant. Eggs Royale, Salmon on Toast with Eggs, Avocado toast with poached eggs, FULL English as well - all amazing.

We stayed here during the last bank holiday for 2 nights. There is no enough word to describe my experience staying here! Exceptional. It was like a 5 star hotel service, I do not know why they call themselves as Bed & Breakfast place! :) The room was exceptionally clean, bed was comfortable, we slept like a baby for 2 nights. All towels, nice shampoo, conditioner, hand soup & cream options. Everything made me feel like I'm at home! The room had a good coffee maker, with complementary coffee pods, different tea bags, and snacks. Fresh filtered water, and a fridge in the room. Also plenty of more options at the first floor to help yourself. Heidi and Paul were so friendly, but the best part of all was the breakfast! That's why I only have photos from breakfast! Paul cooks breakfast freshly, you can choose different options for each morning, high quality excellently cooked. They should open a breakfast place in the town!! :) *P.S. Thank you so much for the champagne again (for our 1st year anniversary), was a lovely gesture guys! Hope to see you again.

Exceptional. Very accessible from Canterbury West station. Very comfortable and exceptionally clean. The room has a good coffee maker, with complementary coffee pods and snacks. Fresh filtered water and a fridge in the room. There's a beautiful outdoor area too. The hosts are really friendly, but best of all is the breakfast, plentiful, and a lot of choice, with high quality excellently cooked ingredients. ( The breakfast is really good, better than any of the high end cafés in town!). The breakfast room is also very good, taking the time for a leisurely breakfast is well worth it.

One of the best stays I had during my 3 months in the UK. Heidi and Paul were amazing hosts and the house itself was very impressive. Room was cozy, bathroom a little small, but as expected for a single room (at least it was en suite). Breakfast was outstanding - restaurant quality food being prepared by Paul. House is within walking distance to the city centre with parking available in the back in a gated yard. Highly recommend everyone stay here at least once in their life!

Excellent stay - Tony very friendly on arrival. We were going to a concert at the cricket ground for which this was a brilliant location, a walk of about 30 minutes, we were given directions which were spot on. Short walk into the centre of Canterbury, would love to explore more if we had had the time. We stayed in the “Map” room on the top floor. Lovely room and en-suite shower was spotless. 10/10 for breakfast, we had the full English but vegetarian options available and toast & cereals as required. Parking available at the rear of the property. Very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend. Look forward to staying here again on our return to Canterbury. Made very welcome by Tony and Kerry. Thank you for your hospitality.

This is with any doubt a 5 stars place. It's impossible to be cleaner or nicer. The place looks brand new. The breakfast is included and is awesome and instant made. The beds very comfortable. The rooms have water and cookies, Canterbury tales written in the walls... The WiFi works well. I'll be back here every time I'm in Canterbury. The city centre is 5 minutes walking.
