Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is a cozy counter-serve spot that offers a variety of freshly baked, handmade Southern biscuits in sweet and savory flavors like cheese and chive, country ham, blackberry, and black pepper bacon. In addition to their award-winning biscuits, they also serve pimento cheese sandwiches and other locally inspired breakfast, lunch, and late-night treats.
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit was the second stop on my Charleston foodie tour, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We visited the Upper King Street location, and from the moment we walked in, it felt like classic Southern comfort. The biscuits are made with just four simple ingredients, but somehow they pack in so much flavor. We tried a few things, but the standouts were the bacon, egg & cheese buttermilk biscuit sandwich and the pimento cheese biscuit—honestly, one of the best versions of pimento cheese I’ve ever had. They also serve creamy Carolina grits in a biscuit bowl, which was such a cozy and delicious surprise. If you’re into cooking, they sell their biscuit mix and even offer biscuit-making classes. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Charleston!

Good, quick biscuit spot. There’s no seating and this place gets packed so plan to eat at the standing counter or take to go. They don’t have the chicken on the main menu but make sure to check out the specials at the register. We got the hot honey chicken and the bacon egg and cheese. They also have biscuits and other treats to go.

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit is the perfect Charleston breakfast spot! The biscuits are warm, flaky, and full of flavor. We not only built our own breakfast biscuits but got the flavored mini biscuits! Definitely a must-try experience to start your day right.
Joshua L — Google review
Delicious buttery goodness! Callie’s biscuits are flaky yet filling, with crispy, crunch crust to it. I got the sausage, egg and pimento cheese spread. Yum!! It is a narrow shop, so standing room only. One must stroll to find this hidden gem otherwise you might miss it. Must try even if you have to pass by a few times!

Stopped in to grab a biscuit to go on my last day in Charleston. I wish I had found this place sooner! I got an egg, sausage, cheese biscuit. It was delicious. The staff was very friendly, the food is great, and the prices are good. Stop by, you'll be glad you did!
William A — Google review
This place is a little in/out breakfast gem. The biscuits are supposed to be made from scratch and they definitely taste like it!! —DELISH!!! We were in Charleston doing the week this time and was able to pop right in and out every morning. Last visit was on the weekend and the lines were just wayyy too long.

Awesome. Sent a big order to a friend whose mother in law passed. I’d planned to go to Charleston for 3 years…. But hadn’t made it. So I ordered for me…. And family. Almost as good as mine. I’d give Callie a 99 and me a 💯. Only because when I’m making them I’m eating them… too many of them. Watch reruns of her show. Awesome sausage biscuits and sharp cheddar biscuits. I’m hooked.
Charlene R — Google review
We ordered 3 total biscuits and they were all melt in your mouth. It was a slower day so we didn’t have to wait in line and we were able to eat on their little counter.

Brunch restaurant
Poogan's Porch is a renowned restaurant in Charleston, housed in a beautifully restored Victorian townhouse. It offers traditional Southern cuisine and an elegant dining experience. The menu features authentic lowcountry dishes for brunch, lunch, and dinner, including She-Crab Soup, Pimento Cheese Fritters, Shellfish and Grits, Wild Caught Roasted Catfish, and Sweet Tea Glazed Salmon.
We had an incredible dining experience at Poogan’s Porch in Charleston, deserving of a full five stars! This charming restaurant exudes Southern hospitality, and even though we didn’t make a reservation, the wait was absolutely worth it (though I’d recommend booking ahead for convenience). The low country corned beef hash was absolutely yummy, bursting with flavor, and my wife couldn’t stop raving about the chicken sandwich—she loved it! The pimento cheese fritters were a unique and delicious surprise, perfectly showcasing the creative Southern cuisine. We were seated upstairs in a quaint, cozy room that added to the warm ambiance. The service was outstanding, with attentive and friendly staff making the meal even more enjoyable. Poogan’s Porch is a must-visit for anyone in Charleston—can’t wait to come back!

I went here with my boyfriend for an early dinner. The biscuits were nice, hot, and fresh. We had fried green tomatoes, she-crab soup, and crab cakes for an appetizer. Our entrees were the sweet-tea lacquered salmon and catch of the day, which was red snapper over rice and gumbo. I found the food to just be okay and bland at times, not what I was looking for so I don’t see myself coming back.
Stephanie B — Google review
This is my Absolutely favorite restaurant in Charleston! The fried chicken with the hothoney was mind blowing. Everything is out of this world! Best hushpuppies I've ever had. Pimento cheese fritters with bacon jam is unreal! Still thinking about the lavender martini.
Brett J — Google review
Beautiful restaurant with a great brunch menu as well as spooky history. We had a few starters to share and then several brunch items. All were delicious and southern. Fried green tomatoes, great, simple preparation done well is always a hit. Pimento cheese fritters were rich and yummy but very heavy, sharing is a good option for this item. Grits were cooked and seasoned well which for me is a real plus because so often I think they are under seasoned. Biscuits as good as they get, light and flaky. I think these were delicious. Unfortunately we were with a really large group so I didn’t get many photos. Are there other restaurants that serve food just as good, Im sure there are, but for me I enjoyed the entire experience of this restaurant. Note, bloody Mary’s are very spicy, if you like spice, which I do I would, definitely order. Also mimosa carafe is a nice option and the mimosas were very light in color, meaning the ratio of juice to champagne was great. Will definitely return.
Kathy D — Google review
Seems like a popular lunch spot! We were lucky to be sat without reservations (fairly large place with in and outdoor spaces). We did lunch a round 1:00ish on a Thursday. We got the pimento cheese fritters and the award winning shrimp & grits (that was reportedly featured in USA Today)- and boy we’re both so good! The shrimp and grits were not fishy at all- the gravy was perfect. The pimento cheese fritters comes with a delicious bacon jam. They gave complimentary biscuits that we couldn’t eat because we were so stuffed. Other popular dishes (per our waitress) are the chicken and waffles, chicken sandwiches. Would recommend!

Came here with my mom and sister for brunch. We were impressed! The restaurant is so cute, service attentive but not annoying, and food was delicious! We ordered the biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, and pimento cheese fritters. The portion sizes were generous and it was perfect to share!

We visited Charleston as a cruise stop midweek. We had been on vacation in Canada and on the cruise about 2 weeks prior to arriving. We are from the south. While the food we had been eating was delicious, I was ready for a homestyle, southern meal. We were in the process of heading back to the ship, because we just weren’t sure where to eat. We walked down what seemed to be more of a side street and saw a gorgeous old house with people dining outside. We checked out the posted menu and decided to give it a try. We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming host and seated right away. Our server was friendly and quick to the table. While we had to remind him that I ordered sweet tea, I didn’t feel that was enough to remove a whole star. We ordered fried green tomatoes which is something I always order if it is on a menu. They were delicious. They also bring biscuits and honey butter to the table that was also great. The sweet tea is true southern style tea. The tea flavor was strong, and so is the sweetness…perfect in my opinion, but it may be too sweet for some. Half sweet half unsweetened may be a better option if you don’t like sugary drinks but still want to try it. For our main dishes, my husband got the shrimp and grits which he orders at most southern restaurants. I got the fried chicken sandwich and fries. He said the shrimp and grits were great. My chicken was so crunchy you could hear me bite into it and it was huge. The fries were also tasty. Everything was seasoned perfectly. I also appreciated that they aren’t afraid to salt the food! Overall, this was one of my favorite meals from our whole trip. I would eat here again.
MaeZ — Google review
First, the service is amazing. The food wasn’t. The biscuit and gravy was amazing except that the biscuit was hard as a brick. That’s half the meal. My wife got the chicken sandwich which was good but put together sloppy. I mean chicken was on one side of the sandwich while the pimento was on the other side. I’m pretty sure those were supposed to be toppings.

Husk is a culinary gem nestled in a beautifully restored Victorian-era home in Charleston's historic district. Since its inception in 2010, this restaurant has captivated both critics and food enthusiasts with its innovative approach to Southern cuisine, led by the talented James Beard award-winning chef Sean Brock. The menu is a delightful surprise that changes daily, showcasing locally sourced Low Country ingredients and honoring traditional Southern heirloom recipes.
We had the chance to dine at Husk, a place we’d heard so much about. The atmosphere is warm and lively, and the staff have a great sense of humor—at one point they were laughing that my partner’s shirt looked just like their uniform. The color was almost identical, though theirs was cotton and his was linen. A lighthearted detail that made the evening even more memorable. The tuna tartare was good, though it took quite a bit of persuading to get bread with it. Oddly enough, other dishes on the menu include bread, but here it seemed like a challenge. Eventually, the waiters relented and brought it over. The real highlight of the evening, however, was the mushroom pasta. Perfectly cooked, layered over a rich mushroom purée (or perhaps a silky sauce), topped with grits. The dish was boldly seasoned with black pepper—spicy, sharp, and pronounced—yet beautifully balanced. Paired with a glass of Pinot Noir, it was perfection. Out of our entire trip, this is the one dish that truly stayed with me. In fact, I would say it’s the best dish I’ve had in the past year—even compared to meals in Michelin-starred restaurants.
Kristina Z — Google review
Made birthday reservations and our waiter Kevin was absolutely amazing! Fantastic suggestions, perfect timing on the courses and drinks. Hit all of the highlights and answered all of our question; even when he said he'd have to differ to the bartender Damian when we asked for suggestions about adding a shot of something to the mockingbird, mocktail (Bar Hill Tom Cat gin, I will not be able to recommend this enough and I'm not usually a gin drinker). The oyster starter was grilled to perfection and my companions arent usually fans of oysters and I nearly had to fight them for my share! The pimento cheese and ham was super flavorful and the biscuits fluffy while still being sturdy, great highlight to the house pickles. The scallop starter was light and flavorful, a little bit of spice from the jalapeño, but not too overwhelming. The cornbread side was absolutely delightful, the eggplant flavorfull and well roasted. The chicken fried rabbit was jucy and delicious, the grits and gumbo offset it with a wonderfully deep, rich flavor. The pastrami was pull apart soft and juicy, with some solid roasted potatoes. The diver scallops were buttery smooth and melt in your mouth; the succotash was lightly sweet, with a lot of good corn flavor and a hint of roasted tomatillo. The icebox cake was much lighter than I was expecting with a good mocha flavor and smooth dark chocolate pastry. The seasonal ice cream we went with was the muscadine, which is apparently a local grape, which we never would have guessed, and will now go on, wishing it was a flavor we could get shipped back home with us to MN. It was absolutely amazing, light and flavorful with some vanilla bean, and i now have a quest to get my hands on some of those grapes. We will absolutely be returning for more seasonal options and to find out whats for dinner next time!

Firstly, beware that there are two sides of HUSK. One is fine dining and the other is casual bar dining. We mistakenly went to the casual side although we intended on fine dining, we weren't disappointed. The food were delicious and the service was excellent and the ambience was great. The burger and fries were the best I've had a a restaurant and okra was amazing. I recommend this place for a great dining experience.

We were spending one night in Charleston and asked a friend—who’s visited countless times—for a dinner recommendation. His answer was immediate: Husk. Reservations were tough to come by (nothing until 9:45 PM on a Sunday), but thanks to Resy Global Access we snagged an 8:30 PM spot on the upstairs porch. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and seated at a beautiful table overlooking the street. Our server, Megan, introduced herself right away and was fantastic from start to finish—attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed. We started with cocktails (the Pisco in a Pear Tree is excellent), a glass of Cabernet, and the skillet cornbread. The cornbread had great flavor—definitely ask for extra butter—but ours was a bit burnt on top. For entrées, we both ordered the diver scallops with brown butter, potato & bacon cream, and sourdough crumbles. The scallops were slightly overcooked, but the flavor was incredible. Surprisingly, the diced potatoes underneath might have been the highlight of the plate—rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned. To finish, we shared two seasonal scoops: sweet potato ice cream (very pumpkin-pie-esque) and an orange creamsicle sherbet. Both were delicious, but the sherbet was the perfect light ending to the meal. Despite a couple small imperfections, the combination of ambiance, food, and truly exceptional service made this a standout dining experience. We will absolutely return on our next trip to Charleston. Highly recommend.

WOW. It was packed on a Monday night and it’s easy to see why. The dirty california gold rice was insanely flavorful and moist, the cornbread skillet was delicious, the pastrami brisket was so tender with a flavorful crust…such an unreal meal! The menu changes daily, which is so fun. Our server, Chris, was also wonderful and so helpful. Definitely make a reservation and check out Husk if you’re in Charleston!
Paige D — Google review
Wonderful restaurant with an excellent menu that reflects Charleston and the surrounding area’s culture. Although the menu changes somewhat from what I hear, the “chicken fried rabbit is the best I have ever tasted - moist with excellent flavors. Don’t miss this dining experience if you are visiting this beautiful city.

Had an AMAZING dinner with my husband last night. One of the absolute best we've had in Charleston so far. Great ambiance, service, food, and cocktails. I highly recommend the pimento cheese and biscuit board to start, Pastrami Brisket and Chicken with black garlic coconut sauce for entrees, and rhe grits and corn bread for sides. Everything was excellent.
Stephanie Y — Google review
Perfect! Great staff, atmosphere, food and cocktails. It was just an absolute winner. Our hostess Jayla, server Kyle and Sommelier Megan were all outstanding. They leaned in with the best version of themselves and it created a wonderful culinary experience. On top of it all, the food was amazing. I loved the deviled eggs, scallops and grits. The best that I ever eaten. Plus, the Pisco in a Pear Tree cocktail was a delicious and unique spin on the traditional Pisco Sour. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and fantastic. It was everything that I expected from a classic Charleston experience. The desserts were terrific as well. I highly recommend making reservations in advance and making sure that you partake in this very special dining experience.

Page's Okra Grill is a lively eatery that offers generous portions of casual Southern-focused home cooking all day long. Located conveniently for visitors in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant, it's the go-to spot for authentic Southern cuisine east of the Cooper River. The menu is extensive, featuring lowcountry favorites like Country Fried Steak, Shrimp and Grits, Southern Fried Chicken Livers, and Fried Oysters.
We visited on a Tuesday afternoon right after checking into our hotel and there was no wait. There is an option to sit outdoors or indoors, but we opted to eat in because it was hot and humid. The staff was very hospitable and made sure we were enjoying our meal and had everything we needed. The portions were huge and very satisfying. I went with the seafood platter and it was really good, but when they brought out the orders of hot fried chicken it looked mouth watering and everyone said it was delicious. The fried shrimp and crab cake was my favorite part of the platter. The red rice was just okay but the fried okra was good. The fish was also just okay and I would’ve been satisfied with extra shrimp and the crab cake. The coleslaw was also really good. Definitely a great value for your money and family friendly. We were full for the rest of the evening. I would most definitely recommend and come back.

Had a wonderful meal here on a Saturday evening! Went out with the parents and the dog and Pages surpassed all my expectations. Troy was a great server and made the necessary changes to serve us better. Lots of seating indoor and out, and accommodating for dogs. They were out of a lot of draft beers but Troy gave us a recommendation for a tangerine beer by Sycamore (I think) and it was great! Grouper bites as an app were delicious and paired with a perfect sauce! I do think that $15 for an appetizer is quite high but it was delicious none the less. Everyone loved their meals and portions were very fair. We got a variety of dishes. The Pages seafood pasta was everything I dreamed of in a white sauce! The chicken and waffles were fantastic, and the pimento bacon fries were the angel on top of the Christmas tree. Please excuse my glazing, but we really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. Will definitely be back!!

We loved everything about this restaurant. From the hostess to our server to the food. I had Page's Famous Chicken & Waffles which was amazingly delicious. It's a savory waffle with bits of cheddar, corn, chorizo & jalapeño (but it wasn't spicy). The fried chicken breasts were flattened and easy to eat. My husband had Shrimp & grits which he absolutely loved. The grits are formed into cakes and then fried. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the grave was a light and creamy type instead of the usual brown type. Neither if us could finish our meals although we tried. Our server, Taylor, was outstanding!

Amazing food! We got the classic Charleston seafood platter with a side of mac and cheese and okra fries and hushpuppies. Hushpuppies were small like just 2 balls the size of munchkins, but had flavor. The rest of the entree was deep fried goodness with lots of flavor in the batter. We also got the bass entree and the shrimp that came with that entree was so mouthwatering good, I will think about them every-time I have shrimp now. The carrot cake was huge. This was one of our most expensive meals during this trip but it was totally and completely worth it. They had so much indoor and outdoor seating. If you’re out of town, this is great.

We’ve eaten here several times and enjoyed every meal. This is a great take on southern food without the meals feeling overly heavy. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place.

Man the hosts Are so friendly. Then you walk in and it smells divine. You want to order everything. It was just my husband and I. I came to Charleston for my birthday and decided to stay over here in Mount Pleasant. The manager at Hampton Inn suggested for some good food to come and was not disappointed. Thank you. WiFi needs help I wanted to review while sitting there.

We stopped in for lunch and ordered a basic smash burger and a steak ribeye sandwich. The burger was tasty with a generous amount of sauteed onions and cheese. The steak sandwich was a bit fatty and a bit of a disappointment. Service was very good and atmosphere ok. Hard to evaluate a place when only ordered a basic type of hamburger and generic steak sandwich. Maybe the classic Southern dishes are a better choice here.

We are out of towners and have been here twice before 4 years ago. This time were visiting with my whole family for my birthday dinner. Chase was our server and he couldn't have been more personable. The food was amazing, just like last time. Prices are great for the portions. I highly recommend the fried okra and fried chicken. They also gave me a free dessert for my birthday. The chocolate chess pie was to die for. The whole experience was so enjoyable. We always come back here when we go on vacation in this area. It has such a down home local country vibe. We absolutely love it!

The restaurant was created by a team of passionate Southern chefs and a farmer who grinds fresh grits daily on a 175-year-old mill visible from the window. The menu features staples like eggs, pancakes, and various coffee options. Co-owner Greg Johnsman ensures that the restaurant balances blue plate breakfasts with fancy morning entrees such as lobster toast on house-baked brioche.
Miller’s All Day is exactly the kind of place you want to linger over breakfast or brunch. The atmosphere has such a fun, retro diner vibe with a Charleston twist—it feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The food is not only beautifully presented but absolutely delicious. Their grits are some of the creamiest I’ve ever had, and the biscuits are perfectly fluffy and buttery. My coffee stayed full (always a plus!) and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. The staff was so friendly and attentive without being rushed, which really added to the experience. You can tell they care about both the food and the people they serve. It’s one of those spots that makes you want to come back again and again—whether for a slow morning or to show off Charleston to out-of-town guests. If you’re in town and want a true taste of Southern breakfast done right, Miller’s All Day is a must!

Atmosphere and service was fantastic! We came to Millers for a quick brunch before heading home. We got the banana bread and the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The banana bread was heavenly! It was moist and had a light chocolate cream that melted right on your tongue. The grilled cheese was super crispy and the tomato soup was amazing! The cappuccino latte had a nice decoration and tasted perfect! I would come here everyday if I had the chance to! 😊

From start to finish the whole experience was 10/10!!! Appetizers, drinks, entrées were spectacular. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is adorable. Tristen our server, was amazing. Very attentive, and made wonderful suggestions. Definitely coming back next visit to Charleston and i would ask for him again!

We saw the menu and immediately knew we wanted to come here. Bonnie was an absolute gem and a fabulous server, her advice and suggestions were spot on and she was so sweet. The food was absolutely fantastic! We literally loved every bite of everything we got. The cinnamon roll was absolutely enormous and even tho we shared it, we barely made a dent. The grits + cheddar cheese were amazing. The cornmeal pancakes and fried chicken were spectacular. We very likely will come back for breakfast tomorrow.

I stopped by Millers All Day and ordered the King Street Bowl — absolutely delicious! Everything was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and felt like the ideal Charleston brunch dish. My waiter, Tristan, was awesome — super friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. The vibe was fun and relaxed, and service was quick even though it was busy. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to next time I’m in town!

Fantastic breakfast. The biscuits are amazing. We would have liked to try a cinnamon roll, as some of our neighbors were enjoying them, but we were just too stuffed! Service was friendly and attentive. We were willing to take a high top so did not have to wait.

Millers All Day is a fantastic spot. The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. What really made the experience great was our server, Tristen. They were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. It’s rare to get service that good these days. Highly recommend stopping by

What a great, laid back spot. We did breakfast. Easy to get to on King Street in Charleston. The variety for breakfast was exceptional. An alcoholic beverage helped start the day. I deeply apologize but I cannot remember the breakfast I had. The restaurant uses QR codes. Overall, very good food and service was great. Check them out and decide for yourself.

Toast! All Day is a laid-back restaurant that has gained recognition for its Southern-style breakfast and brunch offerings. The New York Times magazine and TripAdvisor have both praised this eatery, solidifying its reputation as a must-visit spot in Charleston. Whether you're craving stuffed French toast, shrimp and grits, fried green tomato BLTs, or sweet tea glazed fried chicken, Toast! All Day has something to satisfy your appetite.
The server Ellie was very friendly and super sweet. Very timely and attentive. The pig candy is some of the best I’ve ever had. It was sweet but had a spicy kick. The peach stuffed french toast (should be renamed to French loaf) it was so big and was fantastic. We split it. Highly recommend eating on the sidewalk and enjoy the people watching when dining. Cheers

This was the best meal I had in Charleston! This was a very cute, quaint place right on Meeting Street. My husband and I arrived at 11am and we're seated right away. Caitlyn was our server and she did an amazing job! My husband got a BLT with a fried green tomato and fries. I got the shrimp and crab omelette with grits and a biscuit. The omelette and biscuit were both huge! The omelette was absolutely delicious. Normally I have to add butter and salt to my grits but these were perfect without adding anything. The inside of the biscuit was great, but the outside was too hard for my liking. If I lived in Charleston I would get this meal regularly. It was great!! I would highly recommend Toast! All Day to anyone visiting Charleston.
Julia T — Google review
I had the biscuits and gravy and it was good, but not great. The gravy was a bit too thick and sticky. The scrambled egg was cold, but I didn't care too much. I've had it better other places. The fruit bowl was delicious. Service was great and it was reasonably priced. I would go back and try something different.

We had such a great experience at Toast All Day in Charleston! The pancakes were hands down the best I’ve ever tasted fluffy and full of flavor. We also had the ham, cheddar, and bacon omelet, which was absolutely amazing. And don’t even get me started on the salted caramel latte…umm, umm good! Our server Anabelle made the experience even better. She was so attentive, friendly, and full of personality. You can tell she genuinely enjoys connecting with her customers. Top-notch service all around. We’ll definitely be back!

The service in this restaurant is stellar. They found out my boyfriend’s birthday was in a couple days, and treated it like it WAS the day. Went above and beyond. I recommend the shrimp and grits, as well as their beignets. We plan to come back tomorrow, haha.

We celebrated our 20th anniversary, having breakfast at Toast. We sat outside in the beautiful weather and had the most delightful server. It just so happened that they were celebrating their twenty fifth fear in business as well. What made this special for us is that on our honeymoon, we had our first dinner together at a restaurant named Toast. Finding this little gem of a restaurant, Helped bring us full circle. We highly recommend you visit this place and sit outside, if the weather is nice.

FIG is a downtown restaurant that offers an upscale take on Southern cuisine in a relaxed bistro setting. The menu features seasonal dishes made with high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant's minimalist decor and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere for diners seeking gourmet food without the formality of fine dining.
Fig is a dining experience. The curated menu with the ambiance and attentive service is one of a kind. Our server was knowledgeable about every item on the menu and recommendations on what paired well together, and depending on if you were looking for savory, or fresh, or light he knew it all. The service was immaculate with utensils being changed out every course, water being filled without being asked, and never being reached across. The oysters with the curry butter were perfectly paired. The oysters just slightly cooked, probably with just the hot butter, without any chew or rubberiness often times an overcooked oyster has. The tartare was extremely tender and the perfect temp, did wish for a little more salt on mustard mixed in. The ricotta stuffed gnocchi with the lamb meat sauce was super tender and not gamey. The bouillabaisse is an absolute must with flaky tender fish, and vibrant shrimp. Flavors were unmatched. The Sorghum pudding is the perfect dessert, and their latte was deep with flavor. While on the slightly pricier side for Charleston, this was an experience altogether and not just a simple get your food and get out. Must try.

The clientele is a little stiff. But everything was wonderful. Food is clean, fresh, very well prepared. Plating is simple. All high quality. Chase our waiter was patience and so kind. Drinks are good.

FIG is the perfect spot in Charleston to go for a special occasion. Everything is made to perfection and the service is 10/10. This is one of the few menus where we are open to trying absolutely anything because we know it will be amazing. We had Alex as our server and he added to the experience, being able to perfectly describe complex flavors of the dishes and really paint a picture to how the dishes were made. It is pricey but very worth it. Make sure to get a reservation EARLY though because they sellout quick for weekends.
Zach H — Google review
Excellent restaurant. There was a little issue with the reservation time we made and hostesses seemed a little overwhelmed. But the manager eventually sorted it out and took charge with a professional and supportive demeanor. The evening was very pleasant, our waiter very good and the food excellent - they were just recognized by the Michelin Guide for a reason. Perhaps the reason for the slight confusion initially - make a reservation, you won’t be disappointed.
Mark A — Google review
As always FIG was an amazing experience from the service to the food. We decided to do a dinner of appetizer and were incredibly happy. The chicken liver pâté was fatty, silky and delicious. The pickles shrimp paired very well with the local vegetables. The tomato tart was the highlight. They only have it when tomatoes as in season but if it’s on the menu it’s a must have. We finished with our pasta course of blue crab ravioli and gnocchi. Both were delicious and my wife and I fought over which one we liked more. I was a fan of the blue crab because of the distinctive blue crab taste and sweetness. My wife loved the pillowy gnocchi. You can’t go wrong with either one of these dishes.
Ryan T — Google review
Long time Charleston visitor from Orlando. the hospitality is noticeable. As a consistent Party of One, I often feel rushed in restaurants. They didn’t rush me at all! I felt at home. Also, I absolutely hate when restaurants take away the other serving after I’ve sat down. It makes me feel low key loser-esque as I always dine solo. Like my food mate decided not to show up. Other patrons see that and it’s not a good look. Not FIG. The setting for one was already there and I enjoyed that feeling. Again. Hospitality and paying attention to the reservation goes a long way. Very charming eatery
Megan B — Google review
Reservations fill up FAST, and rightly so! I’ve been here twice now and it’s a must go if you’re in Charleston. My recent visit was as good as the first. Our party of four had reservations for 715p on a Friday night. We were seated right away and service was prompt to arrive. We started with a bottle of I Vigneri Nerello Mascalese, which ended up pairing well with the dishes we selected. We ordered multiple small plates to share. - Beef Tartare + Maxim Potato, Vine Ripe Tomato Tarte Tatin, and the Ricotta Gnocchi + Lamb Bolognese. While each of these was delicious, the gnocchi was definitely the stand out. Moving to entrées, we ordered the Brioche Crusted Flounder and the Pork Schnitzel. We also added the Yukon Gold Potato Purée. Everything was seasoned well and flavorful. For dessert we ordered the Sticky Sorghum Pudding and Olive Oil and Pistachio Cake. I have had traditional sticky toffee pudding many, many times, but their version with sorghum in it, brings it to a whole new level. This is quite possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had! From apps to entrees to dessert, everything was absolutely delicious, and the service was attentive. I will continue to visit Fig whenever I get the chance.

The blue crab ravioli and the gnocchi were outstanding. We started with the burnt eggplant and cottage cheese with brown bread. It seemed like an odd combination, but it worked.

Early Bird Diner is a funky, art-filled American diner in West Ashley that offers an all-day breakfast and classic Southern dishes. It's a budget-friendly spot where both locals and visitors can enjoy a wide variety of Southern comfort food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night meals until 4am on weekends. The menu features favorites like Chicken & Waffles, Fried Pork Chop with Pepper Jelly, Blackened Catfish, and Meatloaf.
Went to lunch with my husband, Early Bird never disappoints. Today was extraordinary. I tried something different for me, the Snitzle Sandwich! I am a huge sandwich fan! I can tell you without a doubt this was the best unique sandwich I have had in a decade. The pork cutlet was fried to perfection, the mushroom gravy, just enough to add flavor without taking away the crunch perfection, the idyllically toasted bread was butter like it was being served to the gods… all to make this sandwich the most delightful luncheon in years!

Came highly recommend and I am glad I came here! The chicken and waffle were amazing! You don't even need strup as the honey mustard sauce is sweet enough and goes perfect with each bite of waffle and fried chicken. Also, tried the corn cakes benedict with their grits, and let me tell you that those grits are by themselves worth the visit. I will definitely be back again!

Good diner spot. Chicken and waffle was great. Home fries were seasoned really well. Definitely get some of the pepper gravy! We were lucky and didn't have to wait, but I can see where they fill up quick! Oh and the Humble Hot Sauce on the table was amazing!

Great place to go if you love excellent diner food and big portions (which I do)! My son got three pancakes and they were each the size of the plate...he barely ate half - took the rest to go. The biscuits are scratch made and excellent. I also recommend the homemade sausage which is crispy on the outside and super flavorful. Our waitress was super busy, but she hustled well and did a fantastic job. Parking can be tricky, but we made it with a full size Transit van.

We stopped in here for brunch while we were in Charleston. It was a restaurant Guy visited so we wanted to try it. The service was great. Parking is a little tuff as the place was busy. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I had the early morning burger. It tasted good but I don't think I would get it with egg again. My wife had the chicken and waffles. She said hers was delicious. With tip the bill was $50. We would definitely stop in to eat again.

Food 5/5. Atmosphere 5/5. Service 5/5. Unfortunately I have to give 0/5 stars for the fact that myself & 3 other parties were all purposely overcharged for our food while we were there… as a business owner myself I’m disgusted to see a local establishment operating with such dishonesty & lack of integrity. Disgusting, won’t be back.

The Glass Onion is a lively restaurant that offers elevated, locally sourced Southern cuisine in a delightful setting. For over sixteen years, this establishment has been serving delectable poboys featuring flash-fried local shrimp on a soft yet crispy roll. In addition to the sandwiches, the menu includes seasonal vegetable sides and entrees such as pan-roasted Carolina trout and succulent pork chops.
Really excellent quality southern food. Lots of food so we rolled out without dessert, but all those options looked good as well. It was all pretty traditional and so good. We really loved the pickles and the frying green tomatoes with pimento cheese.

What a find! Visiting Charleston and had read good things about The Glass Onion. It did not disappoint! Our server ( Haley?) was just the cutest! So bubbly, knowledgeable and attentive. We were a party of 6. We had shrimp po boy, chicken sandwich, pork chops, gumbo and shrimp and grits. Everything was fresh and excellent. My son said it was the best chicken sandwich he’s ever had and he’s had a lot! The macaroni salad is amazing! We even bought a couple of cookbooks. Can’t wait to try some recipes. Don’t pass this place by!

We loved The Glass Onion, it was the best meal we had when we were in Charleston. My husband had the shrimp and grits with a side of collards and I had the sautéed trout with rice and butter beans, everything was delicious. In addition the atmosphere was very welcoming and the servers were terrific. We had to have dessert as we heard that the pastry chef was excellent. We had the banana pudding and the bread pudding and we loved every bite. We will be sure to go back there if we ever visit the area again.

Excellent Southern Cuisine!! The Glass Onion serves delicious locally sourced food that’s cooked from scratch. I had fried shrimp with a house made remoulade, side of perfectly seasoned collards, and cornbread. My husband had catfish that was so tender it fell apart! The tartar sauce was also made in house, and delicious! Their menu changes daily…WOW! The staff was attentive and friendly, service was excellent. Will be back in the next time we’re in Charleston!

Good restaurant. The food is very good, although the portions are small. The pork belly and collard greens were very good. The cornbread was good, but served without butter. I had to request it. My kids ordered chicken strips and we had to request ketchup after the food was delivered as they were not delivered with any sauces. The service was friendly, but did not really anticipate needs/wants. It’s not somewhere I’m dying to go back to, but not a bad option if you want some slightly above average low country cuisine. 4 stars because the pork belly was fantastic despite the small portion.

AMAZING southern comfort food. Stopped on the way to the airport, and it was delicious. Fried green tomato a must! We both had the buttermilk chicken sandwich, it was all great quality and good tasting! Service was friendly and top notch!

Fantastic meal. We tried a variety of menu items and everything was incredible. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and Brussels sprouts (best I have ever had!). Prices were very reasonable as a bonus!

Friendly staff, quick service, and good food. For sure get the brussel sprouts appetizer. You will spell it approaching the table, and it tastes even better than it smells. The pimento cheese is good, and the fried chicken is incredible. If you still have room, get the bread pudding for dessert. I'm usually not a fan of nuts in my desserts, but they were good in this pudding. This is definitely worth a stop while in Charleston!

Undeniably one of the best breakfasts I've ever had - and breakfast is my favorite. Vicious Biscuit was so delicious we went back twice! Everything is worth trying - the options they have for spreads and jams are heaven and the staff was so kind and fun. When we showed up there was a line but it was well worth the wait and moved quick. Seating indoor and outdoors were spacious and enjoyable. Cannot say enough great things - love love love!

This was our first time to Viscous Biscuit. We were visiting and stopped in by chance. We were so glad we stopped by. When we put our order in at the counter the server did an excellent job. He asked if it was our first time and he explained the entire menu. He recommended the shrimp and grits, which I got. So amazing and very filling. Everything was excellent.

Delicious! The vicious bacon was so flavorful and tender, the biscuit was big and tasty, and the butter and jam bar was such a fun treat. I especially loved the honey butter. We also really enjoyed the fresh-squeezed orange juice. I also loooved the grits with cheddar added. Prices felt fair, too!

The food and drinks are phenomenal here!! We had The Animal Farm, Nashville Hot Chicken, The Vicious breakfast sandwiches and a plain biscuit. The biscuits are big and very tasty. The Orange juice is freshly squeezed!! Who does that anymore?! The Vicious Biscuit does, that's who!!! You can get the Caffe Latte iced or hot, with or without a flavor shot. They also have other drinks, alcoholic and non, plus Chocolate Milk. They have different kinds of homemade butters, like Sweet Potato butter, Maple Bourbon Butter, and homemade jams. All of their food and drinks are homemade, incredible! This place is an absolute must!!!! They also sell bandanas and tshirts. I'd give it 10 stars if they had that high of a rating!
Rachelle G — Google review
We went for breakfast and ordered the “Vicious Biscuit,” the “Vicious Beignets,” and the “Nashville Hot.” The food was really good and the portions were huge. The Vicious Biscuit came on a jalapeño cheddar biscuit with fried chicken and maple sausage gravy on top, which was delicious. The Nashville Hot also came on the jalapeño cheddar biscuit with fried chicken tossed in hot sauce, topped with honey mustard and pickles. Both were flavorful and filling. They also had a condiment bar with things like sweet potato butter and bourbon maple butter, which was a nice touch. The beignets were tasty but a little too hard and crispy for me. Overall, we enjoyed it and would come back, but it’s not going on the “to die for” list.

The Ordinary is a trendy seafood restaurant located in a 1920s bank building on Upper King Street. Since its opening in 2012, it has been a pioneer in the raw bar trend in Charleston. The restaurant offers a variety of seafood dishes including oysters, crudo, caviar, and fish-head gumbo. It also boasts a rum-centric focus with an array of cocktail classics and house specialties.
It’s hard to live up to hype but The Ordinary delivered. Great service and delicious food and drinks. Loved the room - we were a group of 5 that sat upstairs overlooking the dining room. Get the oyster sliders, steak tartar and smoked oysters.

I wish all the ordinary will be like this place. Fresh oysters, dishes done for perfection, everything in each dish is needed. Attentive service, great cocktails. Highly recommended
Maya K — Google review
Our server, Alison, was very knowledgeable and provided excellent guidance and impeccable service throughout our dining experience. Started with the fish cake. Very light and tasty. I had the Red Snapper, so many flavors. Every bite was heaven. My wife, had the Waygu steak with mushrooms, so delicious! Usually, I am leery of going to a seafood restaurant and ordering anything other than seafood but in this case, I would not hesitate ordering the steak! For a side we went with their seasonal rice dish. So many flavors For dessert we had the Pannacotta paired with a glass of white port wine and Chocolate Hazelnut pot de creme paired with a tawny port. We savored every bite and enjoyed this dining experience, from start to finish.
Scott — Google review
We received a very generous gift certificate to The Ordinary as a wedding gift, as we were visiting Charleston on our honeymoon, and we had a wonderful and memorable dining experience from start to finish! We were impressed from the moment we were seated. The restaurant and bar spaces were expansive with huge windows and soaring ceilings, and beautifully decorated. We were welcomed at our table by a little handwritten card wishing us “congratulations,” and our server, Allison, was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and thoughtful. After delivering our cocktails and complimentary bubbles, she offered to take our photo and proceeded to arrange not only our seating but the items on the table to ensure a very nice shot! Our cocktails were uniquely crafted and very enjoyable, not too heavy or sweet. My husband ordered the crab cake appetizer and the snapper for his main course. I ordered the Wagyu Steak Diane and we shared a side of the seasonal rice (without the shrimp) - every bite of food was so flavorful! We paired our desserts with a white and a tawny port. Fabulous dinner and dining experience. I imagine it’s often said: anything BUT ordinary!
Elizabeth A — Google review
One of the top experiences I’ve had in Charleston. Our server was friendly and helped answer a lot of questions that we had. We started off with a dozen oysters that may have been the most fresh and delicious I’ve had in town. We could’ve easily had a dozen each by ourselves. Loved their wine selections and had 3 throughout the courses we had. I’ve had bolognese and pappardelle so many times but man this one was absolutely perfect. The pasta was thin but cooked so well and held all the delicious meat and sauce in every bite. We got the snapper with mustard although I don’t usually like mustard but our server said it’s very mild in flavor. So glad we got it because it was amazing. Fish was crispy on the outside, flaky yet soft. And when you scooped it up with the corn and sauce, it was so satisfying. Towards the end we got to meet one of the managers that had been there for several years, and he told us about the history of the building and it being an old bank which I thought was super cool. The layout of the restaurant with multiple floors and just bustling with energy. We thoroughly enjoyed everything!
Nina C — Google review
Had an okay experience at The Ordinary. I thought most of our food was generally good, but my grouper was overcooked. For close to a $50 entree, I expected flawless. Cool atmosphere and great service, but the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. Definitely time to refresh your furniture!
Mark S — Google review
This place is amazing! Kian, our server, was so attentive and timely during our experience, not to mention Chef De Cousine, Zach Crosby, who came out of the kitchen to introduce himself. They take so much care into what they do. I will be back!
Becca C — Google review
I finally returned back to The Ordinary, and it was just as good the second time. A staple is the Fried Oyster Slider, it is a MUST! So much flavor and the oyster is fried perfectly. Beware if you don’t like spice, there was a Jalapeño on it this time. Easy fix to take it off though. We tried the raw bar oysters as well— locations all in SC/NC. I prefer briney oysters, and I would say these were on the milder side. One of the servers actually described one as a “sweet marshy” 😂 For entrees my husband and I shared the MUSTARD CRUSTED BEELINER SNAPPER, and I was wildly surprised I enjoyed the creamed corn that it was with. I honestly chose it with minimal thought— the whole menu looked great. Our friend had the Smoked Bird Island Cup Oysters, and she said it was great. Only complaints were HUGE bites. Maybe avoid that for a first date if he/she takes you here haha. 🅿️Parking: always a struggle, but there is a lot behind the restaurant at the hotel for $$, or you can take a chance with Cannon Street parking. $$ expect to spend minimum of 100$ if you are getting entrees.

Rodney Scott's BBQ is a renowned counter-serve spot known for its Lowcountry-style slow-smoked pulled pork BBQ, chicken, and ribs. The place holds historical significance and is famous for its exceptional barbecue. Rodney Scott, a James Beard-award-winner, uses an old-school approach to South Carolina barbecue by cooking whole hogs over wood embers in a 'burn barrel' for over 12 hours. This traditional method sets it apart from other popular barbecue joints in the area.
We had 3 great meals and the only thing I had negative to say was the noise level was a bit high. The meat was perfectly smoked and presented with little fat to pick and no need for sauce. (I didn't like any of the BBQ sauces anyway.) The side dishes were also good. Parking was easy and there was plenty of seating, even with the short wait for service. It took only a few minutes for our meals to be delivered. Servers were quite attentive so make sure you tip!
Raymond B — Google review
Good BBQ, Can give it a try! I came in with high expectations thanks to all the buzz — and while the BBQ was good, it didn’t quite blow my mind. The pulled pork was tender and smoky, and the sauce had a nice tang, but honestly… I’ve had better in less-hyped spots. Ribs were solid, and the sides were decent — not life-changing, just good. Corn bread was nice. The vibe is cool, fast-casual with a local feel, and the staff was friendly. But for all the attention this place gets, I expected something a little more memorable. It’s worth a visit if you’re nearby and craving BBQ — just don’t expect a religious experience. This isn’t the holy grail of smoked meat, but it’s a respectable stop in Charleston.

We stopped by Rodney Scott’s BBQ and went straight for the tray with three kinds of meat. It was outstanding—tender, smoky, and full of flavor. Each cut had its own character, but all of them were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The portion was generous, and it really felt like the best way to experience what this place is all about. I also have to highlight the fish sandwich. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be such a standout at a barbecue spot, but it was excellent. Crispy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside, with just the right balance of seasoning and texture. It was simple, but done with so much care that it really impressed me. The vibe is casual and welcoming, and the food speaks for itself—hearty, satisfying, and memorable. I would definitely recommend Rodney Scott’s not just for the barbecue classics, but also for that fish sandwich, which turned out to be one of the best surprises of the meal.

We saw Rodney's episode of Mind of a Chef so of course we had to check out his restaurant while on a recent trip to Charleston. It's easy to see why he's a James Beard award winner. My husband and I each had a 2-meat plate. Each came with a choice of two meats and two sides as well as a slice of cornbread. I opted for Carolina style pulled pork and ribs and my husband had the brisket and southern style pulled pork. There was a wide variety of sauce to choose from at each table. For sides we had mac and cheese and baked beans (me) and fries and cole slaw (my husband). We also ordered a side of hush puppies. Everything was so delicious! The portions were very generous, especially given the low price tag. The meat was tender and very flavorful & the sides were all very good as well. I've never had good mac and cheese in a restaurant but his just blew me away. The hush puppies were moist and delicious as well. It was clean and the staff was very attentive and super friendly. I would highly recommend this place for bbq done right at a great price! ❤️

We just did a tasting menu with Lauren and had a blast! We left with smiles and full and happy bellies. Everything was so fresh and on point. Can’t wait to give our friends and family a Charleston bbq experience for our special day. Thank you so much! - Jess & Jeff

We stopped by this Black-owned barbecue spot while visiting Charleston, and it was really good. Coming from Texas, we’re pretty tough critics when it comes to barbecue, but this place held its own. The food was flavorful and fresh, the staff were friendly, and the manager made a point to come around and check on everyone, which was a nice touch. Even though it was busy, the wait wasn’t long, and the service stayed on point. Great atmosphere, great location, and overall a really solid experience. We’d definitely come back next time we’re in town!

A first time for me, I had people suggesting this restaurant for BBQ. I got the Pulled chicken sandwich, ¼ lb of brisket. The sandwich came with (1) side & white sauce, I chose Baked beans and got a extra side of coleslaw and collards. The food came out fast enough, but for myself the collards were barely warm. The Pulled chicken was good with the white sauce and I especially thought the Brisket was the best item I ordered. As I was leaving I decided to try a Fresh Baked Tart, they're surprisingly good.

3.5 stars Rodney Scott’s Barbecue has a lot of potential, but it doesn’t fully deliver the knockout BBQ experience I was hoping for. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a rustic charm—wooden tables, checkered napkins, and a faint twang of country music in the background. The staff is friendly and efficient, making the dining experience pleasant and welcoming. The menu covers all the BBQ essentials: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and a solid selection of sides. I ordered the half-rack of St. Louis-style ribs with coleslaw and mac ‘n’ cheese. The ribs had a nice smoke ring and a decent crust from the dry rub, but they were slightly overcooked, resulting in meat that was less tender than ideal. The house BBQ sauce was tangy with a touch of sweetness, though it leaned a bit too heavy on the vinegar for my liking. I sampled the brisket from a friend’s plate, and it was a highlight—juicy with a good bark, though it could’ve used a bolder seasoning. The sides were hit-or-miss. The mac ‘n’ cheese was creamy and satisfying, but the coleslaw felt lackluster, missing the crunch or zesty kick to complement the richer mains. Portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable—$18 for a half-rack combo is fair for the quality. Overall, Rodney Scott’s Barbecue offers solid BBQ in a laid-back setting, but it falls short of exceptional due to some inconsistencies in execution. I’d come back if I were nearby, but it’s not a destination spot. If you’re in the mood for BBQ and a casual vibe, it’s worth a visit—just don’t expect perfection.

Butcher & Bee is a trendy spot known for its innovative, seasonal dishes made with local ingredients. The restaurant is currently closed as it prepares to relocate to North Morrison Street. It's famous for its 'hand-held comfort food' and stays open late on weekends. The menu changes daily and by meal, with options for vegetarians and a BYOB policy. Originally a sandwich shop, Butcher & Bee now offers sit-down dining featuring Israeli cuisine with a Southern twist.
So to start off, I have to say that this place was phenomenal, from the food to the atmosphere and most of all the service. In terms of food I ordered a starter of the salted potatoes which were perfectly seasoned and equally spicy, then the kebab which was amazing in its own way and then to round off the meal I had the brownie sundae which was so flavorful and goey and rich with sweet and honey flavor. I highly recommend those items but I got a chance to try the whipped feta and I would just as much recommend that. The atmosphere and the music fit the place to a t, the decor both inside and outside was inviting and modern as well which was perfect for the location of the restaurant. Finally the service was personally the best part to me, our server Emma was on top of everything the entire time, and was the most peppy and enjoyable part of our experience there, she was very willing to give honest suggestions and asking us on our own preferences to do so. Overall I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a somewhat more "fancy" dining experience, fancy in parentheses as it felt more comfortable and well rounded but also distinctly different.

My husband and I did the chef’s table and it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have ever had anywhere! I loved that the servers explained each dish and what region it came from. We were stuffed when it was all said and done. The service was also great. Wonderful and friendly staff. Will be back!!

Really cool dining experience. I went with my sister and we sat at the chef’s counter- I would recommend this if you get the chance. It was really fun watching the chefs do their thing and even make my food. Everything we ordered was delicious. The bacon wrapped dates and feta dip especially stood out. I also got the roasted broccoli appetizer and the steak as a main. Both were great. We didn’t have room for dessert, but they had a great dessert menu. I look forward to going again. They have a chef’s meal that looked fun, but we decided not to do that as it was our first time. Next time, I’m going to try that. And of course, service was great and super accommodating.

Went for brunch with family. A little busy over the weekend but rightly so. We loved everything we ordered. The Shakshuka especially is a must try. The hummus is great too. Tried a lot of different drinks and all were amazing. Bloody needs a special mention here. All in all will definitely recommend the place.

A friend and I enjoyed dinner here. To be totally transparent, it was a complimentary meal that was won through a rewards program. I truly couldn’t have been more impressed. Not only was the food fresh and delicious and innovative, the service was immaculate. Everyone was so kind and accommodating and certainly didn’t treat us like we were getting a free meal. Highly recommend doing the chef’s choice!

I think we must have had a bad experience here with the food. The best part of our meals was the beets. The food was bland, dry and over cooked. The staff were super nice and attentive. I rate on the experience we had, not what others say and our meals were just bad. The place was cool, the people were nice , just were let down by the food. It definitely could have been an off night they were having, as it looked good. I would try again hoping for a better go at the food.

The food was absolutely amazing! We did the chefs choice and there wasn’t a single item we didn’t love. There were foods I would normally avoid that I have a newfound appreciation for. The service was amazing. Everyone was attentive and checked on us throughout our meal. The pacing of dishes coming out was also perfect. We will definitely be back when in town.

My friend and I came on a whim. I had been before but it was a while back. We arrived and it took a while for them to serve us but our waitress came and spoke to us and gave us “presents” as she said which were marvelous appetizers. I believe her name might have been Annie. The atmosphere is great and I have always enjoyed the whacky decorations. It’s very unique if you’re looking for a different kind of upscale dining. The food was delicious and I was truly blown away by the bacon wrapped dates. I had the schnitzel with potatoes and my friend had the roasted potato appetizer. A wonderful experience regardless of wait time!

The environment is clean. The atmosphere is warm. The staff appeared friendly. My food was hot however my friend Breakfast potatoes were cold. The server took the potatoes and returned them. The potatoes in the middle and bottom was still cold. As we was sitting at the table, we felt rushed because the server said at least 5 times that we can pay. We left the inside and was talking in the parking lot, the server wave at a family of 9 into the restaurant. I would appreciate the server just telling me that they needed the table instead of me feeling rushed. I am still processing to decide if I would return to try again.

First time here. This place has excellent Biscuits & Sausage Gravy; omelets are big and tasty; & the biscuits are perfectly cooked (I just love 'em!). Not a big fan of the Beignets though, which I thought was a little dry. Service was also iffy when we were there; we had to keep flagging our server down for everything from utensils, napkins, drink refills, & additional orders. I will, however, be coming back here for more of the fantastic Biscuits & Gravy.

Located in the suburbs is this cozy restaurant- serving family style food. The ambiance makes you feel settled right away. Staffs are very friendly. The Sunflower is a great local diner and is a true asset to the Ashley River Road area. It has a casual, laid back atmosphere with great service and exceptional staff. Breakfast is always fantastic. Typically, there are a few specials to enjoy, alongside the regular menu which features large, well made omelettes and fantastic benedicts. Everything is fresh and, having sampled almost the entire menu at this point, I can honestly say that anything you order will excite your taste buds and satisfy your stomach. I especially enjoy the spicy sausage benedict and the crab benedict. Plan ahead if you are coming to Charleston and enjoy a breakfast at the Sunflower.

What a great little spot! We stopped by here on a quick trip while passing through the area and were looking for something light, fresh, and healthy to start the day. This place absolutely delivered. It has a simple yet well-curated menu with great options for both breakfast and lunch, whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or something clean and refreshing. I really liked the layout and atmosphere—very cozy and welcoming. The coffee bar setup was a nice touch too, with several quality options for those who want something beyond the basic drip. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! I ordered the avocado toast, which came out beautifully plated and loaded with fresh toppings. My friend ordered the French toast, and it looked just as amazing—thick slices, perfectly golden, and not overly sweet. Both of us were impressed with the quality of the ingredients and how quickly the food came out. The staff was friendly and helpful without being overbearing, which made the experience even better. Parking was pretty easy, though the lot is small—so I’d recommend arriving early if you’re visiting during peak hours. We’ll definitely be stopping by again next time we’re in town!

Went for breakfast and were able to be seated right away (we did not make reservations). Our waitress recommended the Mexican Hash (so naturally I got that) and my friend got the Huevos Rancheros. Both were good but I enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros a bit more. The salsa that came with the Mexican hash was delectable though. Coffee is self serve and unlimited. Grapefruit juice is not refillable.

waited 20 minutes to get seated, got seated and received no service for over 10-15 minutes! Got told the server was getting trained but still waited a additional 5 minutes to get drinks that we ordered, the hash browns were burnt ! Told them remake it and got another burnt hash brown! Donut tasted horrible as well! Overall would rate this location a .5/10 highly disappointed.

I got the chicken and french toast with a sunny side up egg today. I came because i saw a tiktok review video. I was highlyyy disappointed! it was very flavorless i could barely eat the chicken, which was gray.. i never seen a gray chicken before. The french toast was alright just not very cinnamony or flavorful either. I did enjoy the rosemary syrup which is a little different than what you’d get anywhere else but it could have had a stronger flavor as well lol .. the look was unappetizing i had to go to work or else i would’ve took it back for 21$ i’m disappointed (the egg was good very sunny side, i just put in microwave too cook it a tiny bit more then it was alright

I loved the food options on the menu. The staff that I interact with was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was hot and tasty. I was able to identify the difference with the quality of the ingredients used. I tried the different in house made condiments. I would recommend you try it for yourself. The music choice was nice 👌and not loud. The place had long tables to accommodate groups. The restroom was clean. If I had to say anything bad, it would be ..... nothing.I have nothing to say. The last time we visited Charleston, we stayed on James Island and we stumbled upon this place. Wow! We loved everything about it and went back two more times before we headed for home. So when we were back in North Charleston this year for vacation, we made a special trip to revisit the place. It was just as good as we remembered it. The food is OUTSTANDING. The service was friendly and helpful and, most importantly, our great memory of Maple Street Biscuit Co. was not tarnished. We will be back!

The staff was amazing! This was our first time in Charleston and the staff here gave us some fabulous suggestions on things to do in the area. Liz and Mia (happy birthday) are the epitome of good people. Brody was the cook that day and the food was perfection! My husband had the chicken and waffles while I had the retro breakfast. The waffles were soft in all the right places and cooked to perfection. The chicken was excellent! The gravy is phenomenal! It had a slight kick to it but not so spicy it wasn't enjoyable. Oh and fresh squeezed OJ. 10 out of 10 for this place and the staff!

Terrific staff - all very polite, friendly and helpful. Great food, too. Biscuits are dense & chewy with a crispy top crust. We love their Risky Biscuits (Biscuits & Gravy), Biscuit French Toast, The Farmer, & The Sticky Maple! And don't forget to try their delicious B² Jam which is a mixture of strawberry & blueberry with the consistency of syrup. The fried chicken on the biscuit sandwiches are perfectly nice & crispy on the outside and seasoned just right. We've visited twice in the past week because we enjoy the food so much. Great experience both times.

The food was mediocre at best. I loved the original Maple Street in Florida and I was excited to try this location. The staff at this location desperately needs more training. I asked about vegan milk for coffee and I was told they didn’t have any. Then I noticed almond & oat milks are an option for lattes. The employee stated she didn’t know they weren’t “real milk.” My Keto bowl came out missing avocado, bacon & sauce. When I asked about the missing items, I was told that the menu changed and the employees were not told. We ordered the retro plate with over medium eggs and the eggs came out hard fried. The employees debated and then begrudgingly remade the eggs. The photos are of the remade meals. I would suggest the owners train employees on menu items. In the end they brought us two $10 maple street gift cards. I don’t think I will use them. As this was a $40 breakfast so I would need spend $20 to see if they can do better next time? I wish I could recommend but I don’t.

Hominy Grill is a popular and laid-back eatery in Charleston, known for serving up delicious Lowcountry classics. The restaurant is housed in a restored Charleston single house and has attracted famous personalities like Anthony Bourdain and Anthony Hopkins. The menu features iconic Southern dishes such as fried okra and sausage gravy, all prepared fresh with great care. While there may be a wait to get in, the homey atmosphere and delectable food make it worth it.
Everything was fabulous!! The nasty biscuit was to die for and the gravy was more like a pepper cheese taste. It was great! The green tomato BLT was tasty and perfectly balanced. The shrimp and grits was divine. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and with the salt from the bacon, it was by far one of the best dishes I’ve had in Charleston! Thank you!

Couldn't skip a brunch at this institution while visiting Charleston! Southern home style, delicious, simple menu with great drinks. Not being a dessert gal, I did not care for the sweets tho they looked good. The shrimp and grits were fantastic, especially with fried green tomatoes on the side. Service was a bit slow, but this place packs up.. lot of people visit so plan your trip and hunger levels accordingly. Was too hot to sit outside but there is that options if you like. Since we were eating our way through Charleston, can't say this was the best spot; we had some spectacular grits, friend chicken elsewhere... so hence the 4 stars. We Ubered there but seems like there is some parking for those of you driving. All and all was a good brunch to grease the wheels before we went to our next stop to eat!! This was the only repeat restaurant that we ate at on our 3 day exploration of Charleston. We had such delicious meals the first time, and several more menu items that we wished to try, that we knew we had to return. Between the two of us, we tried the shrimp and grits, the bread pudding French toast, the fried pork belly grit bowl, the buckwheat pancakes with peach syrup, and the fried green tomatoes. Every item came in a satisfying portion and was made from high quality ingredients. My dad says that these were hands down some of the best shrimp and grits he’s ever had, and he has tried many throughout the Southern US. The service was pleasant and prompt for two midweek breakfasts. We were delighted with our overall experience at Hominy Grill.

Our favorite brunch place in Charleston! It was very homey, and food was amazing. The shrimp grit was good, and nashville hot chicken was good too but we would have liked it better if it came with any side. The hanktown omelette was different because it had oysters in it, and it was good balance of food. We definitely recommend getting something from the brunch special menus.

Absolutely amazing food. Their signature dishes are well deserving of the hype, especially the Shrimp & Grits and the Charleston Nasty Biscuit which is a piece of fried chicken between a high biscuit smothered in some delicious gravy. And the service is what you expect in the South, kind, friendly, and very attentive!

Good experience albeit very busy. The best item for brunch was the BLT with fried green tomato. The chicken and waffle was good, but there wasn't enough of the sweet strawberry sauce. The chicken wasn't spicy, which was the declaration from the waiter. It was very busy for a Sunday brunch, which lead to longer waits at the table and a bit less attention to the basics like water or an additional beverage. It's a beehive here. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz

Magnolias, a Charleston classic since 1990, offers a refined twist on traditional Southern cuisine in an elegant setting. The restaurant is beloved by locals for its top-notch lowcountry dishes and attentive service. Seafood takes the spotlight on the menu with authentic options like Lowcountry Bouillabaisse and Spicy Shrimp over grits. Whether it's lunch, Sunday brunch, or dinner, Magnolias delivers southern soul food with a fine-dining experience and tasteful presentation.
Tonight's dinner was @magnoliaschs in the French Quarter of Charleston! I decided to go out and splurge a little. 😂 It is a Lowcountry upscale kitchen. Drink: Grand Fashioned Elijah Craig bourbon, Grand Marnier, orange peel, Angostura bitters, Luxurious cherry App: Down South Egg Roll collard greens, chicken, tasso ham, red pepper purée, spicy mustard, peach chutney Entree: Bourbon BBQ Glazed Pork Chop mac & cheese, collard greens, jalapeño cornbread, honey butter This place was pretty amazing! The drink was exactly what I was looking for. Good flavor and straight to the point. The egg roll tasted so good. You could taste all the individual components in it. The sauces were really complimentary to it. It's really crispy! The pork chop was hands down the best I have ever had. Seasoned perfectly, juicy, and cooked to the perfect medium well. The sauce was nice and sticky. The collards had the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The mac and cheese was nice and creamy. The cornbread was nice as well. I have no complaints whatsoever. When the waitress came over to ask me how I thought the egg roll was, I dropped it by accident and made a mess. 😂 The atmosphere was amazing. It had a country, old time, and upscale feel. White tablecloths. I REALLY wish I liked seafood.

Southern restaurant with delicious food. The fried green tomato appetizer had a super crisp outside, the tomato itself still had a bite to it and the chutney relish was tangy and delicious. Deviled eggs also very good, hard to go wrong with a deviled egg but this one was very good. The bread service is homemade bread and was warm and crispy, yumm. For mains we had the special fried catfish another hit. Batter was crunchy and the fish was tender and perfectly cooked. , red rice was great and green beans were crisp and brought some freshness to an otherwise heavy dish. The bacon was unnecessary for me as I liked the freshness of the beans and didn’t need that addition. The other main we tried was the blackened catfish. A very different preparation than the special, lightly battered and a little thicker cut. Fish was perfectly cooked and went well with the accompaniments. Every bite we had was great. There were so many other items on the menu we wanted to try we will definitely be back. They have two seating areas, the main area in the front with the bar and a second dining room in the back. Unfortunately we were seated in the back dining room which is banquet hallish. If you can, try to sit in the front room, it has charm and windows and is much more inviting.

Went here on my Birthday weekend and it was great! Prompt service, fresh seafood, and a pleasing ambiance! I had the Blue Crab Bisque and the Lowcountry Bouillabaisse. Both were exceptional and the Firefly Arnold Palmer was delicious. It is a little pricey but I would definitely recommend this to anyone going here that wants a romantic or upscale dining experience. I did make reservations so I'm not sure what walk-in availability is like.

While visiting this week we decided we needed a little southern cooking in our lives. We didn’t have a reservation when we popped in. While there were plenty of tables open (they could’ve been waiting on reservations) we were only offered seating at the bar. Many of the tables remained open while we were there. Reese, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Service was slow. The fried green tomatoes were amazing! So crispy and flavorful. My friend raved about the fried chicken sandwich. While leaving, the hostess offered someone walking in off the street (without a reservation) a table or the bar. I found that curious.

The food was good. The service was good. The drinks were good. The atmospherewasgood. I was hoping for great. The food was fantastic. I started with the crab bisque which was excellent and my wife had the watermelon salad (a special) which she said was the best salad she has ever had in her life. I ordered the shrimp and grits which actually had too much black pepper for MY taste but my wife tasted it and loved it. My wife ordered the seafood bouillabaisse which was very very good packed with flavor and tons of different fish and other seafood. We finished with the Red Velvet bread pudding which was topped with a raspberry cheesecake ice cream....this dessert was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. Other than the food, the atmosphere was very nice, and our waitress was wonderful. I will definitely look to come back.

The food was amazing. Our waiter Slade was knowledgeable, attentive, and funny. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, while still being very upscale. We were not rushed and felt like we could take our time and really relax and enjoy the whole experience. The shrimp and grits were delicious. The pecan pie was amazing and so was the chocolate mousse. Can’t wait till the next time we come back to Charleston.

Restaurant
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar is a must-visit destination for seafood enthusiasts in downtown Charleston, SC. Nestled in the vibrant heart of the city, this restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere with its charming brick walls and clubby vibe. The menu showcases a delightful array of fresh, local seafood that highlights the essence of Lowcountry cuisine.
Great place, awesome location and wonderful service. The shrimp were cooked perfect, tons of flavor. Oysters top notch, topsail were my favorite. If you have kids, definitely try a bite of Fry's or mac & cheese...both were delicious. The shrimp and grits was dynamite and nice sized portion. Only critic was the crab cakes a little dry, but packed with flavor.

The location is in the heart of Charl. The exterior and the feel when you walk in are nice. The tables are very small, and the waiters are always on their toes when two dishes arrive. I recommend not going without a reservation. Generally, the food, and of course the oysters, were good. However, the cocktails were abysmal. They were very simple, flavorless, and lacking in attention. Even though our son took some great photos, don't let them fool you. :)) The prices are quite high. I'd say it's in the middle of the price-performance ratio.

Had a great time! My husband said the raw oysters were the best he's had since we arrived in Charleston. I enjoyed the peach salad with the catch of the day, which was halibut. It was cooked perfectly!

We came here for dinner to celebrate my friend’s birthday after looking at their menu. It was a really nice day out so we opted to sit outside. We started with the calamari steak cut and it was pretty good, but felt like it could’ve been crispier but based on how they were cut like “steak fries” it was more on the soft side. The crab cakes with mash potatoes were bigger than I expected. The mash was a touch too salty for me, on top of the already savory crab cakes and sauce so it was a little over powering although the flavors were good. My favorite dish was the risotto with seared scallops. They had the perfect sear and texture along with the creamy risotto. Our server checked on us from time to time but we didn’t converse with her much. We didn’t get offered anything for her bday and it wasn’t a super special experience but the service was still good in terms of how everything was paced and our waters stayed refilled.

I had been recommended to this restaurant by a couple of people, so I stopped by for a brunch. The staff are friendly but seemed confused a little, perhaps because they had just opened up, not sure. The seafood tower was good but not great. Some of the shrimp were mushy and over cooked. The fish sandwich (not shown), was good, however it seemed to take a time to bring to the table, that was ok, but then the French fries came separately and 10 minutes later, so I guess the kitchen messed up. The shrimp corn dogs were good and worth ordering. They have a nice oyster bar and the oysters on the tower seemed fresh and good flavor.

Extremely delicious food and courteous service! Shrimp corn dog, margaritas and the greens were excellent. Our server Ashley made good recommendations and was very professional. Will definitely return!!

Visited Amen with a friend on a vacation…the food was out of this world! We had the shrimp and grits, shrimp po boy and key lime pie. All of the food was outstanding, with complex flavors and perfect textures. We also had the peach Bellini and a mocktail that was excellent! Server was friendly and personable and my water was kept full!

The entrance to the restaurant is through a hidden garden courtyard illuminated by charming carriage lanterns, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The dining room features velvet-lined walls, attentive servers, and a deluxe supper club ambiance. The menu showcases sophisticated interpretations of Southern cuisine prepared to high standards.
This establishment has been on my list ever since I discovered the existence of the coconut cake. The food was great. I had the steak, smashed potato salad which were both phenomenal. The lobster three ways was also delicious. The coconut cake was heavenly. I definitely understand why it popular. The staff really puts a lot of effort into your experience.

The food here is outstanding. But the service is even better. The wait staff of very attentive and the executive chef even came out to see how the food turned out. I did not get a picture of everything as there were 9 of us. But suffice to say everything was very very good.

Charleston never disappoints! First time at Peninsula Grill! So classy. And Cory will take care of you at the Champagne Bar! He is amazing! Cliquot by the glass! Steak is so good. Didn’t try the coconut cake because we were too full, but it needs to happen!

The Peninsula grill was everything an upscale southern steak house should be. The vibe was classy but not at all pretentious . Our sever Ben was warm and very helpful in guiding our selections on everything from appetizers to wine. The cocktails were fantastic and the steaks perfectly cooked. The warm potato salad was one of the best things I ate in Charleston. And of course, the coconut cake slaps. I would definitely recommend the peninsula grill to anyone looking to have a nice night out in Charleston.

We went to Peninsula Grill in Charleston for my wife’s birthday, and the whole experience lived up to the hype. The menu felt like something you could happily get lost in. We ordered rack of lamb, swordfish, roasted oysters, and a few other fun dishes because we wanted to sample as much as we could. Every plate landed perfectly. The drink list looked incredible too, and even though we were not drinking since my wife is expecting, we were definitely eyeing what the other tables were enjoying. The atmosphere was calm without feeling stuffy. A couple of families with children were there during the early dinner window, which gave the room a comfortable, lived in feel. Our 530 pm reservation made the whole evening relaxed and pleasant. If you love food and want a meal that feels a little elevated, with staff who take great care of you, Peninsula Grill deserves a spot on your list.

Peninsula Grill is an amazing restaurant. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary. Stephanie was our waitress and she was very hospitable and attentive. Unfortunately, half way through our wonderful meal, my wife had a medical issue arise. The manager and staff were very accommodating in helping us during this event. We are very thankful for your generosity during this event and we will return.

Exceptional food. Extremely attentive service. Reasonable portion sizes for fine dining. Outside seating area looked very nice though we sat inside. We had a reservation so no wait on our table. General atmosphere/ambience is probably becoming a bit dated but still a quality experience. We got the lump-crab soup, and lobster 3 way for an appetizer. The scallops and a grouper special for mains courses with sides of brussel sprouts and potatoes. We splurge and grabbed an American Wagyu off the Wagyu menu (not sure if this is a limited thing as it was not in the main menu, they also had options for Japanese A5). Then finished everything off with a slice of the Coconut Cake. Absolutely no complaints on the quality and flavor of food. We did not touch the Salt or Pepper. We parked just south at the Cumberland Street Garage for like $8 for the 2 hours.

In addition to traditional sweets, the cafe offers dessert-inspired cocktails, milkshakes, and indulgent sundaes.
This was a unique find. I can’t imagine there being a better dessert place in the city. Our server, Sonny, was simply amazing and had great suggestions and a charming smile. There is a sign hanging up that says that the USA Today newspaper says it’s the best milkshake in South Carolina and we think we might agree. It was an incredible chocolate milkshake. We also got the mixed berry cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which just melted in your mouth. We weren’t even hungry when we came in and we finished both. The atmosphere has got a bar-like feel with very cool vibes but it’s all desserts. This is a unique place right next door to the market that you need to check out.

Party of 4 walked in to escape a little rain and to grab refreshments. Skyler was our server and she was on point! Her attitude was upbeat and her recommendations were no different. I had one of the old fashioned cocktails and it was great and had a little spin on it. I would definitely recommend this drink if you visit. My partner and my sister both ordered espresso martinis that were really good and Skyler recommended another martini which I believe was a mocha-tini and it was fantastic and she recommended the curious George to my partner which she also really enjoyed. My nephew got a chocolate kids shake with Oreo and he absolutely killed it in no time. We also got a slice of the red velvet cake to share and I tried the gluten free chocolate cake and they were both SO good! Not too rich- not overly sweet and the perfect moistness. I often recommend Kaminskys to people and will continue to do so.

5 stars for 5 reasons 1. The dessert I bought was exceptional! I typically don’t like coconut but this one was very good! Good crust, good taste, and not too sweet. Give the coconut cream pie a try. 2. Nice folks that work here:) 3. Relatively cheap for a good size pie 4. Many variety of desserts! 5. The decor and ambiance is pretty chill.

Stopped by a dessert shop and tried their three-layer chocolate cake. Rich, decadent, and absolutely worth the hype. Each layer delivered a deep cocoa flavor with just the right level of sweetness. The frosting was smooth and velvety without overpowering the cake itself. This place clearly has a following, and it’s easy to see why. Whether you’re a chocolate lover or just craving something indulgent, this slice hits the mark.

The Obstinate Daughter, located on Sullivan's Island, offers an inventive menu of New American cuisine with a touch of French, Italian, and Spanish influence. The elegant country-chic space serves shareable plates such as wood-roasted clams, seasonal vegetables, oysters from the raw bar, flatbread with butterbean puree, and Frogmore chowder. Main dishes include veal cutlet over creamy grits and Capanelle made with seasonal fish.
This was the BEST meal i have ever had. I work in the food service industry, the waitress was so kind and she took the time to make the experience personal. We ordered the flat bread, the gnocchi, and the vodka pasta! SOOOO good 10/10 would come back! We also tried a bunch of desserts and they where so good! Come with a very empty stomach bc you will not want to stop eating the food.

The other reviews are right…this place was so delicious! The service, food, and cozy vibe were all amazing. My favorite dish was the farro & Brussel sprout salad (I never knew something so simple could have so much flavor! & the crunchy peanuts were such a pleasant surprise!). Our second favorite was The Rutledge pizza. We also ordered the radiatore pasta, pesce a la plancha, and chocolate mousse. All yummy :)

Everything was awesome from the service, the vibes, and the food. Must get reservation as wait time in peak beach season is usually 1.5-2.5 hrs. Pizza is fantastic with nice dough, and fresh ingredients. Definitely more wood fired Neapolitan vs thin and crispy. Pasta was clearly fresh, huge portion, perfectly cooked and salted well. Sauce soaked up in the noodles well but didn’t make them soggy. Parking is slightly difficult, with minimal spots attached and then street/paid parking around it.

As someone formerly in the hospitality industry, I am always grateful when I get to dine somewhere that has talented chefs & a wonderful atmosphere. Every dish was created with care & attention to detail along with amazing flavor combinations. I loved that everything was fresh. My boyfriend & I enjoyed drinks at the bar before transitioning to our table with the rest of our party. Portions are large & easily shareable. Highly recommend reservations & trying as much of the menu as you can!

Outstanding restaurant. We did not have a reservation but were able to get seats at the bar. Frank the bartender was terrific and helped us with drink and food choices since this was our 1st time here. Frank really knew the food and also recommended a perfect wine pairing with our 2nd dish. We split the N. Carolina Apple Salad of celery, apples, mint and dates dressed in a vinagrette with dots of gorgonzola cream on the plate. It's only available during the fall season so we went for it and were glad we did! (Pardon the salad pic taken after we began eating it!) Our 2nd splitter was a white pizza called Five Fathom Hole 3.0 with clams, rapini, mozzarella, garlic, chili flakes and fresh lemon to squeeze on it. We also had a cocktail, beer and a glass of wine.

This restaurant doesn't particularly cater to children but it looked like the perfect, quintessential Sullivan's Island vibe I was looking for so we took a chance. We showed up after a long day walking around Charleston with cranky kids, but they were kind and understanding. We decided to start the kids off with gelato because they were hangry and we were able to order a simple, kid friendly pizza for them to share. Hubby and I both got pasta dishes and everything came out delicious. He also said his espresso martini was the best he's had. If you are looking for a casual but classy vibe with elevated food options this is the place.

One of our favorite dining experiences during our trip to the Charleston area. We started with a seared seafood sausage in tomato butter appetizer that was fantastic followed by the Ricotta gnocchi with short rib ragu and The Rutledge pizza. We finished by sharing their pecan bourbon crème brûlée. This restaurant deserves every ounce of praise it receives. They also have an excellent Italian wine list.

Absolutely lovely time at the obstinate daughter this weekend! The food is so yummy and you really can’t go wrong with anything you choose to get. We got the sweet roll, gnocchi, and pork belly brunch item as well as the catch a buzz and another lavender drink! Highly recommend all of the above. Matt was our server and he made our experience very special as we were celebrating our anniversary with friends!! Such a great spot near the beach on Sullivans Island. I definitely would be prepared to walk a bit from where you park a since most of the parking is off the main road. Make sure to make a reservation at least a week in advance, but if you don’t make it in time, I would recommend setting notifications for reservations that open up throughout the week (that’s what we did). Absolutely worth the hype!!!

The food was mostly amazing. One of our sandwiches was overcooked and the bread was hard but their grits are maybe the best I've ever had. The service wasn't that great. We received wrong items a couple of times and never received one of the drinks we ordered. Overall a pretty good experience, make sure to order the grits! Update: we went a second time and it was phenomenal! Highly recommend this place, best breakfast place I've ever been to.

Great place for breakfast right in the heart of Market Steeet in Charleston. Location cannot be beat, but understand that with this location comes big crowds. We went on a Sunday morning around 10:30am, before the church release rush. We put ourselves on the wait list ahead of arrival, which I strongly suggest. We timed it right, and, luckily, there was just a short 5 minute wait. The restaurant was pretty full, but our waitress greeted us almost immediately and took our drink order. Drinks came back in 5 minutes or so, then she took our order. I got the seasonal special, the shrimp and city grits Benedict. Both my sons got the cookie dough waffles with a side of scrambled eggs and sausages. My wife got the gluten-free bourbon street pancakes. The food came out in about 10-15 minutes. It was amazing! Oh my! I thoroughly enjoyed my selection. Incredibly flavorful yet not overly seasoned or too rich. The poached eggs were perfectly done. My only knock is it came our warm, not hot, but understandable considering the size of the crowd being serviced at the time. My wife and both sons thoroughly enjoyed their choices as well. The food overall was very high quality, using quality ingredients, and perfectly cooked as well as nicely presented. Portions were just right, maybe larger than average, for we definitely were not hungry after everything. Our waitress was phenomenal. Very friendly, knew the menu as well as details about items on it, and was very quick. Her knowledge of the menu helped with the decisions, because they offer alot of choices. She was definitelyon top of things, and never let our drinks get near empty. They have a very good variety of gluten-free and vegetarian options on a separate menu. Facilitiess were very clean, orderly, well appointed, and everything in work order. Tastefully decorated. The dining room was spacious too. I hate the feeling of being cramped with small tables and tables/chairs tight together. This place definitely gave you good size and space. Prices we felt were incredibly good considering the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. It's not cheap, but worth the splurge if your budget conscious. This is a great option for a well above average breakfast experience. We will return for sure, and recommend to friends and family.

I visited the Charlotte location and loved it so I decided to try Charleston’s. The atmosphere is very calming and welcoming, not too noisy or overcrowded with tables. The service was great and the servers are all customer friendly. The food came out quick and hot! The grits, sausage and potatoes had great flavor. I thought the French Toast had a bit too much egg in the mix but it was still okay.

Another Breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe! Stopped in early in the AM hoping to fill our tummies and fuel our bodies for the fun filled day ahead. Got seated quickly well before the rush started and ordered some coffee, shrimp and grits and the hash brown benedict. Our server was wonderful, and helped us in choosing between so many options and helped us make a fix to a like warm dish and get it steaming hot while maintaining all of the flavor. The dishes truly were great and the flavors coming from the hash brown benedict were incredible! I would highly recommend both of these dishes to anyone who chooses to eat here, but I imagine the quality is high all around given the quality of our service. The restaurant itself is chill with an easygoing and welcoming vibe. I think you'll like it here. Enjoy!

Sadly we weren't happy with getting a simple breakfast. We had to wait a while at the door then when we got a table & we sat for another while. Looking around the room had many glum faces & no one had food on their table. We had one waitress, then another stopped, then the first came back & I stated I didn't ask for the 2nd one. But anyway, food came & it was not good, hollandaise was like paste, my poached were hard, my husband's were swimming in water & more soooo: Just no. Perhaps a bad morning for them but there are other places.

Made a reservation and got sat immediately. If you order anything, you have to order the fire roasted oysters and burnt end mac and cheese. When I tell you those oysters were some of the best I have ever had… I thoroughly enjoyed the parmesan and bacon on them. The mac and cheese was decadent and rich and they were not stingy with the brisket on top. Great service as well. Highly recommend!

Fantastic spot right on the water during sunset, (we even saw Dolphins!). We loved the Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Dynamite Shrimp, Crab & Artichoke Dip, and Fire Roasted Oysters appetizers. Out of the group of six of us, we all decided the Sweet Corn + Leek Ravioli entree was the best out of everything else we got. The swordfish was close second, but other than that, nothing compared. The only disappointing part of the experience was the rude service. Our server did not write anything down and we didn't notice/care about that until she brought out the wrong items multiple times. For example, someone in my party pointed at the appetizers section on the menu and ordered the fire-roasted oysters. Plain oysters came out instead from a server assistant, then once we told our waitress (30 seconds later and untouched), she proceeded to tell us we were wrong and that we did not say the fire-roasted oysters originally, and gave us an attitude. We are a very easygoing group, but we did not appreciate the change in her service once he addressed a few incorrect drinks and food swaps. However, the atmosphere and food still made this a great dinner spot!

The burger is the best item on the menu!!! Don't waste your time. Plenty of restaurants in the area to choose from. Don't let the location fool you. The service was awesome. The flatbed was soggy. The steak had a weird flavor and the temp we asked for was medium, came to the table rare. Tough!!! Let's just say, skip it.

TLDR: The only thing worth the price (during lunch) was thir amazing Dynamite shrimp. Cocktails weren't great, service is good. Expensive and TBH not worth the price during lunch (other than the FANTASTIC Dynamite shrimp appetizer). Perhaps it's better quality during dinner? The scenery is nice, as in the atmosphere being nice and close to the water. The view being blocked mostly by thick dark pieces of wood was disappointing when they could have easily replaced that with something thinner and sturdy, but all in all a good atmosphere. Service was great, the waiter frequently asked about if there was anything that he could get us and was kind. Two appetizers, two entrees, two drinks, $130 with 22% tip...

First time visiting. All I can say is AMAZING!! We were seated quickly inside by the window. Came during Sunday brunch. Atmosphere was very relaxing and chill. Our server, Milen Kostov from Bulgaria was on top of great service. He was very informative, knowledgeable, about the menu. We had the shrimp and grits which was savory, spicy and flavorful. And also the Smoked salmon on toast which was filling and delicious. A total 5 star! You won't be disappointed!
Rhonda J — Google review
I came to eat here for the first time and was really looking forward to the experience. I ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell, the artichoke crab dip, and the Bolognese. The oysters were very fresh and delicious, easily the highlight of the meal. The artichoke crab dip was also surprisingly good. I wasn’t sure how those flavors would mix together, but it ended up being really tasty and full of flavor. Unfortunately, the Bolognese was where I was most let down. The sauce was very heavy and not what I expected. The pasta was also slightly undercooked, which made it less enjoyable overall. The person I was with and I split the entrée, and as shown in the photo, there is a clear before and after comparison showing how little we ate before deciding to stop because neither of us liked it. The service was also disappointing. Our server greeted us, brought our drinks and food, and later brought the check, but there was no real engagement beyond that. He never came back to check if we liked our food, which would have been helpful with the Bolognese since we would have gladly tried something else had we been checked on. The plate sat in front of us for about 20 minutes untouched before the server returned to ask if we were finished. We let him know we didn’t like the dish, but instead of asking what was wrong, offering something different, or trying to make it right, he simply said “okay” and took the plate away. When the check came, I was surprised to see that the Bolognese was still included on the bill, even though we had barely touched it and clearly expressed that we didn’t like it. As someone who also works as a server, I know how important it is to show care for the guest’s experience and at least attempt to make it right. It was disappointing to see that kind of service here. Overall, I was pleased with the oysters, the dip, and the drinks, but the main course and service experience were not up to the standard I expected. I’m sharing this in a constructive way, not to be malicious, and have chosen not to include the server’s name out of respect. I hope this feedback helps the restaurant improve, because the food that was good was really good, and the place has potential to offer a great overall dining experience with a bit more attention to detail and guest care.

A group of six of us sat for brunch last weekend and it was lovely! I particularly wanted to leave a review for the service. Though I didn't get our server's name, he made great, timely service look easy and approachable and it did not go unnoticed. The Grocery is a warm and inviting restaurant with an inventive, seasonal menu and a selection of signature cocktails, wine, and craft beers. Chef Kevin Johnson, a multiple-time James Beard Award-semifinalist, showcases the flavors of locally sourced ingredients in dishes like the Lowcountry Seafood Pilau and wood-roasted whole fish. The restaurant's wood-burning oven imparts a smoky flavor to various dishes such as cauliflower, asparagus, and whole roasted snapper.
Had a great visit with friends! We had a reservation and were seated promptly by the window, which gave us a nice view and a quieter atmosphere compared to the main room, which was a bit noisy. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The only downside was that we weren't offered a dessert menu, so if you’re hoping for dessert, be sure to ask. Bonus: they have a paid parking lot, but you can validate your ticket after paying the check, which is super convenient. Overall, a solid experience!

My friend and I came in for a quick dessert and a glass of wine after dinner. We were sat immediately and the hosts were super nice and asked if a booth was suitable. After taking a quick glance at the menu our server Anna came and greeted us, walking us through the dessert menu. We mentioned that my friend has a nut allergy and Anna quickly confirmed with the kitchen that the nuts she was allergic to were not in or on the dessert we ordered. The Ricotta almond cake was DIVINE. A perfect suggestion made by our server. It practically melted in our mouths! The textures were soft with a bit of crunch at the end from the almonds! Overall it was an amazing experience! We will absolutely be back for a full course meal! Thank you Anna!

An incredible meal. Was difficult to determine what to order because it all sounded intriguing! Many vegetarian options because they are heavy produce, but so much better! Had eggplant for our app, fish and pasta for dinner.

The Grocery is a welcoming neighborhood eatery dishing out fan favorites sourced from farmers, fisherman, and friends. We had a large party and they were very accommodating. They let us eat and catch up with friends. The standouts from the meal were the bistro steak and story farms half chicken but everything was delicious. Charleston has lots of great spots and You can add the Grocery to the list! We will be back!

The pickled green tomato dirty martini is one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had! In addition we had delicious pasta and veggies. The steak tartare was also a highlight and the service was delightful!

We came to groceries several times in the past and have not been to this restaurant for a while so we decided to check out this place and made a reservation last week. We had a wonderful dinner at the grocery and pretty surprise that we didn't do it sooner. Our server was friendly and quite knowledgeable with the menu and drink The restaurant was roomy and has a good lay out. We had the storey farm half chicken dish and the potato crusted tile fish. They were so good. The yellowfin tuna crudo and broccoli salad tasted amazing as well. We will be back!

The food was AMAZING!! Service was good, I didnt enjoy that when we sat before even looking at menus we were asked if we wanted bread and butter. We said yes assuming it was complimentary like so many other restaurants, but when the bill came, they charged us for it. It was a very sneaky move. I dont appreciate that kind of service. Other than that everything was spot on Other than that everything was amazing. We ordered mushrooms, blistered peppers, wreck fish, and the baklava sundae 🍨 Highly recommend

Excellent drink menu, delicious small plates. The pork belly, peaches, and eggplant plates were all very well done, and I normally avoid eggplant. Everything is well balanced and thoughtfully constructed. The potatoes with the steak were uniquely prepared, thin sliced, and then restocked. The Au Pear cocktail was delicious but a tad small, or at least that was my perception. Would absolutely come back. Rachel was our server, she was very helpful and accommodating.

Prohibition is a modern American restaurant in Charleston with a Jazz Age theme and creative cocktails. High Wire, the first distillery in downtown Charleston since Prohibition, stands out for its use of southern-grown grains and small-batch experimental spirits. The owners' culinary background emphasizes terroir and agriculture, earning them James Beard Award nominations. The vintage-inspired decor at Prohibition creates a speakeasy atmosphere, offering inventive cocktails and a dim sum dish that reflects Lowcountry flavors.
Best place for brunch so far. Cocktails were delicious, and the food was served quickly and was fantastic. Great food for the money. Server was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

We had a great dining experience. , Our server, was very professional and attentive. Since we made an early reservation, we were seated immediately without any wait. The food was tasty and well-prepared. Our waitress was super sweet, got champagne and macaroons to make my daughters birthday special. We had a great time and experience. Thank you

Had Sunday Brunch. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere was awesome! 1st food: great portions and awesome flavor. They made our granddaughter a very special drink. The band playing played a wide variety of music and made brunch that much better. Haley was our server, super awesome. Thank you to Chris as well for making our experience great!

Old Fashioned has a suave peach twist and the Margarita Fuego was EXCELLENT: Blanco tequila, lime, Cointreau, chipotle, mango, and jalapeno - not too spicy and the mango to help curb the zip. This place is packed. We had to gravitate to the back patio bar. My main qualm was waiting over 10 minutes to order while sitting at the bar. Bachelorette parties standing over my shoulder kept getting the go ahead to order. I was about to leave had I been skipped over one more time. Also, with the name Prohibition I was expecting more 30's speakeasy aesthetics and decor... but it felt more like the stereotypical modern rustic craft cocktail bar. Not worth frequenting if that's your selling point in question. Overall, decent cocktails, some with a minor twist. The place seemed like it sponsored bachelorette parties with the amount of coordinated costumes & celebratory groups in there. Must be a prime spot to go out with your friends, not as much for an intimate outing.

This restaurant has a cool vibe and some rather yummy food. Stopped here for lunch and sat on there back patio which was very nice and chill. Got the deviled eggs, wings, and chopped cheese burger. The eggs were fantastic and highly recommend this. The wings were decent and the chopped cheese had some great flavors. The drink menu was good and had plenty of cool mixed options. The bartender made a nice expresso martini. Service was friendly, but slow, and hectic. We got our entree before our appetizer and the wings came with the check. Overall, id definitely recommend.

The atmosphere was very cool! But the drinks needed a little more. We found them not well balanced and had a hard time finishing them. We would’ve given a second round another chance but our waitress never came back to ask. She was wonderful but the bar needed more people working because the room wasn’t close to full or busy but she was constantly busy with different tasks. So her inattentiveness certainly was not on purpose at all. We felt bad for her. However after waiting for so long we did have to approach the bar and ask for our check. We wondered if we would have liked the second round better. The charcuterie board was truly divine! So for small bites and maybe a simple drink i do recommend it!

My friends and partner and I went to Prohibition this past Saturday. It was pouring rain so while parking across the street was the most desirable option- it WAS close and convenient. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted and told that there was only outdoor seating available unless we wanted to wait a little while so we opted for the patio. It was covered so that was good. The reason I gave a 4 star rating is because I thought the manager could have opted to turn on a couple heaters being that it was a bit chilly with it raining and the wind was blowing a bit. Luckily we had jackets so that helped. On to the dining experience- this place has several small plate options which I’m not always crazy about due to portion sizes but the items were ordered were sufficient and we were all able to share with each other. My partner got the tomato bisque soup w/ grilled cheese and while it’s such a simple option- it was perfect and exactly what she needed to warm her up a bit. The soup was creamy and rich and the grilled cheese was crust less and had a good cheese pull. My only complaint would be that the grilled cheese could have been a little bigger. I ordered the brussel sprouts which were great. They were nice and crispy and flavorful. One of my friends ordered the baked oysters- my issue with this dish is that it only came w/ 3 and they weren’t that big- also, I never understood why restaurants don’t do appetizers like that in even numbers. The oysters were cooked perfectly and tasted great and they had a good creaminess from the cheese. The MVP of the night was the bone marrow- I had never had it before and was very hesitant to try it…until I saw it. I tried it and it was amazing! So good in fact that we ordered a 2nd order. The bone marrow was like a rich butter and the meat (I think was brisket?) that topped it was amazing as well- it was sweet and savory. We had 3 old fashioned cocktails and an espresso martini w/ an added shot of baileys which was fantastic! We’ll be back again for sure!

First I must say, the chef is a gem. This kitchen put out a very fine lobster roll, which I enjoyed as an appetizer along with a short pour from the finest Pinot noir from Oregon. Next up, although hesitant at first, I ordered the filet mignon, this by the way was agreed upon by the bartender Trent Major. The filet was served rare with haricot verde’ and awesome potato scalloped. Very well paired with the reasonably priced bottle of Pinot. I would like to add a total recommendation of “100%” for attitude of both Trent, Maria and the entire staff. Life is short spend a little time at this local gem.

Frozen yogurt shop
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is a popular chain known for its creative ice cream and frozen yogurt flavors made from local ingredients. During quarantine, the company has launched several social distancing collections, such as the Emergency Chocolate Stash and a build-your-own sundae collection. While they offer dairy-free options, their vegan selection is limited compared to their non-vegan offerings.
Jeni’s was one of the best ice cream shops I’ve been to. Their waffle cones have a unique flavor like they are homemade. They have an extra bit of sweetness which makes them stand out. I tried the vanilla honey kids size and my daughter and I shared it. It was phenomenal. Not overly sweet, the flavor was really nice. The workers were very nice and helpful. Price was fair for a kids size. I will be back in the future for more.
Wade W — Google review
Although it’s a chain, this is a quality ice cream experience. The flavors are unique, and the approach to ice cream is pure. The napkins even explain their philosophy on taste and texture. The ice cream was creamy and there was no hint of ice crystals. The service was friendly, and you can feel free to taste any flavors -and you might need to given some of the seemingly strange flavors available. A good choice amongst several shops nearby.
Keith M — Google review
This ice cream shop has a wonderful offering of unique and classic flavors. The quality of the ice cream is very good and the waffle cone was freshly made, it was nice and crispy without being brittle. The only downside is that when it's hot outside, ice cream starts to perforate through the sides of the waffle cone. I recommend getting both a cup alongside your cone so you don't drip everywhere. I love how this shop uses metal tasting spoons, that's a huge plus for being environmentally conscious especially for a town so close to the sea.All the staff are friendly and can move the line along fast.
Makai Y — Google review
I am not particularly an ice cream gal, but I regretted not getting more scoops at Jeni’s! There was some double cookie dough voodoo going on!! Unreal waffle cone - You can tell that they’re made fresh (also the size made it easier to eat). I balanced the cookie dough ice cream with the darkest chocolate and WOW. I’m glad this isn’t on the north shore because I’d be eating ice cream more often!! 10/10 would recommend Jeni’s!!
Victoria R — Google review
Jeni’s ice cream has always been my favorite ice cream shop in downtown Charleston. I’ve always said that Jeni’s is quality cream and it really shows through in all of their flavors. The quality of ice cream here is unmatched and their unique flavors can’t be beat by any other ice cream place. Jeni’s can be a but pricey but I believe it’s because they use high quality ingredients. Even down to the tasting spoons which are metal and reusable- this entire place gives the impression of good quality ingredients and materials. My favorite flavors are Bramble Berry, Goat Cheese & Cherries, Cream Puff, Birthday Cake, and Darkest Chocolate. Really you can’t go wrong with any of the flavors there! They’re so great!
Dana S — Google review
We came here 2 nights in a row. We loved the ice cream and especially the butter crisp waffle bowls/cones. Servers were helpful and friendly. We thought the waffle cones were the best we’ve ever had - light and buttery, not thick and hard like ones we’ve had at other parlors. Is a little pricey but I would definitely recommend.
Teressa U — Google review
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is a must-stop when you are visiting Charleston. Fresh ingredients + tempting combinations = delicious ice cream. You will stop once and then want to come back to try other flavors. And when they are making fresh waffle cones, the smell is intoxicating. The seating is limited, so keep that in mind.
Chris T — Google review
Such a delicious ice cream store with a ton of inventive new flavors. Would definitely recommend the Brambleberry Crisp. There wasn’t a line when we went and the service was quick. However, because it was summertime, much of the ice cream was served very soft and melty.

Nestled in a charming rustic setting, Angel Oak Restaurant and Bar offers a delightful taste of Southern-inspired cuisine with an emphasis on scratch-made American dishes. The inviting atmosphere is complemented by a stunning open-air patio that transports diners to the serene landscapes of the South of France. With a menu that changes seasonally, guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner while savoring diverse culinary styles. Known for its warm hospitality and cozy decor, this restaurant is perfect for both casual meals and fine dining experiences.
If you're driving from Savannah to Charleston via Route 17, and thanks to my wife and Google Maps, we stumbled upon this gem, and it turned out to be the perfect treat on our road trip. From the moment we walked in, the charming Southern vibe, the restaurant has a cozy, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The staff, especially our waitress, were incredibly friendly and attentive, an overall warm experience. The star of the show—the beignets. As someone who absolutely loves beignets, I can confidently say these were some of the best I’ve ever had. Light, fluffy, and perfectly dusted with powdered sugar, they were an absolute delight. Paired with a cup of coffee, it was the ideal mid-drive pick-me-up. The restaurant itself has plenty of seating, and the whether you're stopping for a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal, Angel Oak Restaurant is a must-visit.

We met some friends here for dinner around 5. We had reservations but it wasn’t too crowded at that time. However by the time we left, it was packed so be sure to reserve a spot. We all enjoyed our food. I think the pasta of the day was the best dish but you really can’t go wrong, we all enjoyed our food. The staff was super friendly and gave great menu suggestions. After dinner we went to the bar behind the restaurant. We enjoyed our drink as well we ordered the blood orange martini I believe it was called. It was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Pleasantly surprised about the charm of this spot! It was a great place for both adults and kids. I love the home-y feel and the mix matched plates and cups. The food was yummy and the staff were very, very kind. I had a steak special and it was delicious!

The name would suggest that this restaurant is near the Angel oak but it is not. It’s about 20 minutes away. Despite that, the food was amazing. The staff was great and friendly. I loved the quirky atmosphere from the mismatched chairs and mason jar glasses to the fresh flowers on the tables. The menu offered great options. The carmelized bacon Brussels sprouts were delicious as was the Mac-n-cheese.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! 10/10 food and service. Also it’s like a perfectly curated mix of mixed matched furniture, plates, and cups which is absolutely adorable. The cocktail lounge in the back is also a very cute touch. Will be recommending to others and coming back!
Nikki F — Google review
We really like Angel Oak, but this last time our food didn't have enough salt which makes it taste like it had less flavor. The tables are really close to each other so we heard the table next to us say the same thing. Maybe it was an off night? If you're a person that's likes personal space, you might find it "cramped" for you due to the tables being really close in guessing to maximize space as it's not a very big restaurant, but that also makes the restaurant a little quieter since it's not a big place. Lastly, they don't have a full bar inside because right behind they have a "speak easy" that's pretty small, but fun, and has a full bar. I highly recommend you either come a little early or after dinner to have a drink. Sometimes they have live music as well. Our server said since it was a little slow, we were there early, that she would go and get whatever we wanted drink wise, so she was a great server!

A nice option for a local bite. Drove in when we needed a quick, close by eat spot that was not fast food. Pleasantly surprised by plenty of parking and walk in seating. Got pickle chips, fried green tomatoes, and a shrimp salad - all delicious. A good local option.

It's highly recommended to visit early as they often sell out quickly due to their popularity. Located on King Street, the bakery makes all its doughnuts in-house using ingredients from its garden. With over 200 different flavors and an ever-changing menu of seasonal treats, customers can always find a doughnut to suit their taste.
I’m really into doughnuts so we seek out local shops any chance we can. Glazed didn’t disappoint! They had a nice selection. We tried a season pumpkin french toast, as well as the raspberry and black and white. Each were delicious and unique. I had a latte as well, and it was lovely. There’s a small amount of seating and some novelty gifts you can purchase.

The donuts and coffees are incredible! This adorable little donut shop is a must! We came through here on a holiday weekend so it was a little crowded, there is limiting seating - so we just ordered and left. I wish we would’ve been in the area longer instead of just passing through because I’ve been craving their donuts and coffee every morning since. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. The shop was very clean and just smelled delicious!

We went to see the Beth Hart concert in early May and walked all throughout Charleston. Could not pass up this place! We went in and ordered five donuts the gentleman gave us an extra one for free. Oh my god can I just tell you absolutely fabulous! I’ve had donuts from New York to New Jersey to North Carolina and Florida. My favorite? Lemon poppyseed was LEMONY!! (LOVED IT!!) loved the Keylime! The texture, the mix of flavors, the quality and portions were just fabulous. Really enjoyed the bacon doughnut and the Apple bacon fritter. If you’re in Charleston? Stop in and give them a try you will NOT be disappointed.

Gourmet doughnuts are always tricky business because they tend to come with a steep(er) price point for what you're getting. That said, I enjoyed the two donuts I had here. I got a classic glazed and chocolate icing with sprinkles donuts ($2.75) . Both tasted good. I enjoy supporting a women-owned business and definitely would like to try some of the more fun options on a future visit.

Best donut shop I’ve visited in a long time. Everything tastes handmade in the best way possible. The glazed was to die for. We also tried the lemon old fashioned, chocolate with sprinkles and a strawberry French toast. These weren’t too terribly sweet which I loved. The bread was light as well. Definitely coming back to this gem

Super cool donut shop. Saying a donut shop is not enough. They go above and beyond with gourmet donuts. I had a gluten free chocolate peanut butter that was awesome. If you can say a GF donut is awesome, you know they know what they are doing. The place is very casual and comfortable. They even made me a decaf espresso latte.

I'm not usually a fan of donuts even though I'm otherwise sweettoothed - but this place has really amazing ones - light and fluffy donuts with a decadent but not overly cloying glaze. Just perfect. I had the chocolate with sprinkles and the orange old fashioned, and loved both. They have a lot of other varieties, from bacon to vegan ! Chose a nice chai latte to wash it down with. They also have a good amount of seating inside. Bonus is they're located in a very nice part of the city, so grab a donut and gawk at all the beautiful buildings on king street if you're visiting ! Just wish they were open past 3pm though :)

Every year at this time I crave soft shell crab and try to go to a new place each time. Rarebit’s softie specials absolutely slayed and took the top spot on my list. They were nice enough to allow me to order the Day Special - a soft shell crab sandwich with Sriracha aioli and pickled veggies, with the best hand cut Old Bat fries. We agreed that I won the dinner battle but my date’s entree was just as good - soft shell crab atop lobster ravioli with a cream sauce, rich but absolutely divine. We also started the meal with a beet salad which was fresh, crisp and bright, and shared a cup of Charleston classic, she crab soup. Such a great date night with some of the most delicious food I’ve enjoyed in quite some time - don’t miss it!

Breizh Pan Crepes is a charming cafe in Charleston, South Carolina, offering an authentic taste of traditional western French cuisine. Since 2015, this cozy pastel-hued spot has been serving up a wide variety of sweet and savory crepes made with special imported Buckwheat flour. Run by two French-trained chefs, Patrice and Celine, the cafe prides itself on providing quality French food in an authentic atmosphere.
Looking for breakfast on our last day in Charleston. This Cafe had the highest rating and best prices. Amazing! Tiny but mighty. Lovely staff who are glad you came to eat. Delicious, generous portions.

Was in the mood for crêpes, and this place popped up as one of the highest reviewed in the area. Located less than half a block off of King Street, this no-frills restaurant has delicious options, both sweet and savory in addition to options for those who may be looking for something other than a crêpe. My husband got an egg white omelette and Nutella crêpe, and we also got La Tristan which was delicious! Limited seating inside, you must order before you grab your seat. There’s great music playing in the background and you can tell the folks that work there have a great time as they sing and move to the music between customers. Definitely worth a visit!

Crepes here are just ideal! We took savory Buckwheat crepes with salmon, and another with eggs and goat cheese. It was a perfect healthy breakfast. We just couldn’t leave without something sweet, so Nutella croissants and crepe with backed apples nailed it. Thank you guys! You have made our day!
Kateryna K — Google review
It's just ok. The crepes are simple, which I expected given that the restaurant is managed by a French family that brought along the recipes from the birth place of crepes as a dish. Which means you get the original, simple source material without all the stuff added to it through the years by other cultures. The ambiance is that of a college crepes hangout, which is exactly what it is. Gluten-free options are available. Overall: solid, well-priced, worthy of checking out.
Jay T — Google review
This may be one of the world’s worst crepe shops. We had actually intended on eating nearby but the original place was closed so we decided crepes sounded delicious. It was anything but that. The orders took a long time to come out and our entire party had terrible crepes that no one finished. The only redeeming factor was that they brought it some complimentary Nutella crepes to make up for the long wait and those were actually delicious. Go with sweet crepes here if you have to choose, don’t do savory crepes at all.

Bay Street Biergarten is a unique Southern-style pub with a Bavarian twist, offering a rustic-chic atmosphere and an extensive selection of craft beers. Unlike typical sports bars, it provides a more relaxed environment to enjoy the big game without overwhelming crowds. The venue features a spacious indoor area and a large outdoor patio, making it perfect for watching sports, weekend brunches, or simply unwinding with a beer.
We had made a reservation quite far in advance but because of a very large party/gathering inside, we were seated outside in very hot weather. There were fans but they weren't pointed at us. Luckily there was an occasional breeze. The atmosphere was cute otherwise. The bathrooms were nice but the sinks in the women's room was quite high up. Our server, despite also taking care of the large party inside, was excellent. Once she took our order, our food came out quickly. We ordered apps and main courses. The French fries were delicious, and everyone enjoyed the burnt ends. The hamburger can be ordered with 1, 2, or 3 patties. The watermelon and goat cheese salad was also very tasty! My only complaint was that I asked the salad dressing to be mixed into the salad because I hate that, at any restaurant , it always makes a big mess when I have to mix it in myself, and all they did was pour the dressing on top of the salad so I still had to mix it and make a mess. We would definitely come back to enjoy the delicious food and friendly service and hopefully eat inside next time on a 100 degree day!

Ordered Crab Cake Sandwich (Lump Crab Cake, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Haus Pickle, Remoulade, Challah Bun). Based off of their menu description, their interpretation left a LOT to be desired. The crab meat was ground and then [panko?] breaded, almost to the consistency of a salmon patty or a black bean burger. While the sandwich had good seafood 'flavor', it certainly left a lot to the imagination as to if there was any lump crab meat at all. Fries were decent but was not satisfied with sandwich at all. Also had a Patio Pounder (not pictured) which is made with strawberry lemongrass grey goose essence, St. Germain, lemonade, soda - was super excited because I love St. Germain and was excited to taste the Strawberry & Lemongrass Infused Grey Goose Essence, however it fell completely flat. Short glass with more ice, lemonade and soda so much so it drowned the taste of the Grey Goose. For the cost, I'm sure it would have been a better drink had it not been so watery. This was my first experience here, so maybe I try them out again at a later date. Hopefully, the next experience will be better than the first.

We stopped in for lunch after a busy morning at the Charleston Aquarium and were glad we did. The walk from the aquarium was easy, even with two young kids, and the restaurant’s location and atmosphere were inviting from the start. We were greeted right away and seated indoors, which was a welcome break from the heat. The staff gave the kids their own menus, which made them feel included. The adult menu had a lot of solid options too. I had the single patty burger — it was excellent. Flavorful, fresh, and stacked with tasty toppings. My wife ordered the watermelon goat cheese salad with chicken, and it was a generous portion. She loved it. The kids' meals were also good. The portions were pretty big, so smaller kids might not finish everything, but our older ones had no trouble. Service was friendly and quick. Prices felt fair for the quality and portion sizes. If you're near the aquarium and looking for a relaxed spot with good food and kid-friendly options, this place is worth checking out.

Great beer garden with indoor and outdoor seating and service. Large selection of beers on tap and in bottles/cans. Cocktails as well. Variety of food items, and more than just the typical cheese fries and nacho options. Appetizer menu included wings, pimento cheese bites, eggplant fries, and German style potatoes to name a few. Main dishes we had were the falafel pita, grilled Caesar salad, Jagerschnitzel, and a turkey club. All of us enjoyed our meals. Portions were large. Food was fresh, arrived hot and freshly prepared to the table. The dishes were flavorful and very good. I had the falafel pita. It came open faced and was too big to pick up and eat, needed a fork and knife. Packed with falafel which was crispy on the outside and very flavorful. The pomegranate molasses sauce was a nice addition and added a touch of sweetness without being over powering. Also ordered haus garlic fries which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and also packed with flavor (and not greasy). Service was good, staff was friendly. A lot of TVs available to watch sports. Friends, couples, and families in attendance.

My husband and I are visiting the area for a few days. This place was recommended by the staff of our hotel and was a short walk. The ambiance was very comfortable and inviting. Sarah took great care of us and was very helpful in selecting beers to our liking. She was very personal and friendly. Since we had plans for dinner later we didn’t want a full meal , but did get a pretzel and loaded tots, which were amazing!

I’m new to Charleston from New York. So I know food and beverage and atmosphere. East Bay Bier Garden is sensational! Furthermore, they respect veterans fire police and first responders and give us a discount. Very nice and patriotic. It’s a far cry from the 1960s when Soldiers - Like Police - were pigs! How times have changed. God Bless America 🇺🇸 Bob PS great chicken Cesare Salad And Alana bartender and her manager Mike - terrific! 😊

Cupcake shop
Nestled in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina, Sugar Bakeshop is a charming and cozy bakery that has been delighting locals and visitors since 2007. The bakery's quaint beige, white, and Robin's egg blue exterior stands out among the surrounding residential buildings and businesses on Cannon Street. Known for its community-oriented approach, Sugar Bakeshop prioritizes sourcing ingredients locally, including farm-fresh eggs and herbs from an on-site garden plot.
Listen, I am a SUCKER for a good cupcake, and boy, was this place it! They had a ton of flavor options, gluten-free options, dog treats, brownies, and more! They were so moist, and we loved it so much we went twice while we were here! My dog absolutely loved their dog treats, and they are all natural as well. The staff was so friendly, and I want to say she was the owner, was an absolute sweetheart! Will be coming back every trip to Charleston that we make!

Cookies get 4-5 stars. Cupcakes get 2 stars. The cake portion of the cupcakes lacked moisture...very dry overall. Icing was overly sweet on each. We visited on Monday morning shortly after they opened. They are closed on Sundays. The cakes just seemed too dry to have been baked that morning as they have claimed their responses to other reviews. If they were indeed baked that morning, then maybe overcooked??? Regardless, flavors need improvement. We tried 4 separate cupcake flavors. The vanilla blueberry was bland. The only thing that tasted anything remotely of blueberry on that cupcake were the actual blueberries on top. They sadly were the best part of that cupcake. The chocolate cake cupcake with vanilla icing tasted minimally of chocolate and lacked so much flavor. I just expected a deep, rich chocolate flavor, but it was just bland and dry. The lemon curd and carrot cake cupcakes had better flavors overall, but the icing was just overly sweet and cakes still dry overall. The cupcakes were pretty but just were not worth $4 each, and we overall expected much better for the price. The cookies were chewy and much better overall than the cupcakes. We had a ginger molasses cookie and an oatmeal raisin cookie. There could have been much more ginger in the ginger molasses, but it was still overall a decent cookie. The cookies were large in size and seemed to actually be worth their cost. The person who helped us seemed very pleasant. The store was clean. But, I'd rather spend my money on better desserts elsewhere.

WOW… love this small cute bakery on a side street of downtown Charleston!!! I did a Google search and found Sugar Bakery had very good reviews.. I had a custom mini wedding cake made for my son’s weddings in Kiawah Island. I ordered a confetti cake with strawberry jam filling with white frosting & I decorated the rest with a figurine & flowers. The cake was absolutely delicious! We also bought a dozen cupcakes , trying seasonal flavors, classics , and a few gluten free. They did not disappoint , the lavender was probably a favorite! Next time I visit Charleston I will be sure to go back !

Cute little bakery. Purchased a few cupcakes to try. Never heard of a hummingbird cake, supposed to have banana, walnut and pineapple, but I think I got a unmixed one, or maybe it's all blended because I don't think I had any of those pieces. Frosting was nice though. Also purchased a Lime curd, Lemon curd, and pinata surprise. Lime and Lemon were very tart, which would've been alright by itself but the frosting was soo sweet. I guess it's to try to balance them out, but it feels more like it's just overwhelming. Pinata surprise was just a cake with sprinkles, but the frosting was good. Also got a blueberry muffin and a Pecan Chewy. Blueberry was nice, bit more moist than the cupcakes it felt like. But the chewy really good. Would recommend.

The cookies were amazing. Crunchy outside but soft and chewy inside. So good! Gluten free choc chip cookie definitely didn’t taste GF. The double chocolate also great but pretty decadent as expected

This place has the Charleston Sweet Charm. I like to go on our way to the aquarium for a special kid treat. They also have delicious coffee. We love their cookies and cupcakes! It is so quaint and sweet. They are so thoughtful, they have a great selection of candles for birthday cakes. The staff are knowledgeable and take humble pride in their work. I have been here a few times and always enjoy the experience. We will be back and I recommend you give them a try.

Christophe Artisan Chocolatier is a charming gourmet sweet shop located in Charleston, founded by French chocolatier Christophe Paumer and his wife Carly. The shop offers a delectable selection of chocolates, truffles, pastries, French-style macarons, and gourmet coffee. Visitors can also admire eye-catching chocolate sculptures and custom logo chocolates.
Christophe on Society in Charleston is one of the best patisseries on earth! The almond croissant is a masterpiece...flaky, with perfect amounts of almond paste, powdered sugar and sliced almonds! And the fruit tarts are heavenly!
Doug G — Google review
I want to start off saying that the product and the staff are great. My review is about my experience with Christophe himself. He treats his employees like assets, refusing to learn their names or address them as people. He also refuses to acknowledge correct and/or preferred pronouns. He has stated several times blatantly that he does not care about anyone’s well being or respect them. He yells and intimidates when he does not get his way. He is not kind. He is not a person for whom I recommend spending your money. His favorite pet name for his employees is “stupid”. He involves employees in his personal affairs, such as his divorce from his ex wife, insisting they write testimonies against her even though it has been said several times that this makes them uncomfortable. The two strong, capable women who pull the weight in the kitchen are very talented, though.

The chocolates and macaroons were beautiful, and the employees were lovely. I try and find good macaroons whenever I travel, so I was really excited about these, and the presentation in the packaging was absolutely beautiful… but they fell short flavor wise. All the fruit flavored ones tasted overpoweringly artificial. The other flavors, like the chocolate and the salted Carmel were absolutely delicious!

Restaurant
Zia Taqueria is a Mexican restaurant located in Charleston, SC. It offers classic Mexican dishes such as nachos, tacos, quesadillas, and enchiladas in a cozy and casual setting with counter-serve setup. The restaurant is family-friendly and provides several vegetarian options. Situated near the Terrace Theatre and The Pour House music venue on James Island, it's an ideal spot to start or end a night out.
Absolutely delicious. The dining experience was a bit odd to this first timer, as they don't have traditional servers. You go to the counter, order and pay for your food and drinks, and take your drinks to an open table, they then bring your food out to you when it's ready. Aside from that it was an awesome experience. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and every single thing we ordered was amazing. We will 100% be back, and I actually almost went back the next day. A++++

We had impromptu dinner since I was craving for Mexican food and find this place on google map. Zia Taqueria was not busy on Sunday night and we kinda enjoy that. I had their burrito special with spicy carnitas, sliced jalapeños, black beans and rice and crema sauce. It was so good! My husband had spicy fish sandwich and the seasoning on the fish was so good. Although, he think the fish will taste better on the taco instead of buns. Overall, the food is good and also the drinks! Our waiter, Ella, was nice and attentive. We'll be back!

*Updated* No longer my first choice for Mexican cuisine. The food was dry and bland, impressively so, it's not what it was and I'm not sure why. Shrimp tacos weren't amazing, okay at best, and the torta had dry meat with little to no flavor. It was extremely disappointing knowing how good this place used to be. Added an updated photo as well. *Previous review* First choice for Mexican food. I go for the Torta (The one that looks like a "Mexican Burger"), and it's always on point. Tacos are good too, but felt kinda small, but had a lot of flavor though, and the Quesadilla was good and really filling. Pretty nice and relaxed place. Good to sit down and have a drink at too.

5 Stars are not enough! When I wake up in the morning and know I am eating at Zia Taqueria that day I get excited. If you are in the Charleston area and want THE best Mexican in the area cross over the Ashley River to Zia. The fish tacos are simply the best I’ve ever had. Tender white fish matched with soft warm tortillas and a delicious Baja sauce with red cabbage makes for a true trip to Flavortown. Nachos. The best Nachos I have ever had. What’s the usual problem with nachos? Lack of uniformity when you eat them. Too many ingredients on one chip, not enough on another. Zia Taquira fixes that. Go see how. Lastly the staff is “lovely.” When I say that I mean it. “Love” is the name of a manager that really brings it all together with her friendly spirit and attentiveness. Virginia is just as lovely and I can’t say enough nice things about her. She’s a treat. Go try it and you will see why it’s full of locals.

First happened upon Zia in NC near Asheville, great little hopping taco spot. Saw that they had a location in Charleston and had to check it out. Atmosphere was quite nice. My wife and enjoyed some great margaritas from JOSH. We had the taquitos app and that pepper, vegetables pickled relish was to die for when combined with the fresh guac and crema fresh. Next the tacos!!! Let me just say that if taco bell can sell millions and they suck….Zia couldn’t make tacos fast enough if everyone knew how good these were. Barbacoa and Baja fish were out of bounds delicious. My wife had their portabella mushroom taco and it too was incredible. Seriously people….just go and have tacos and Tequilla. Perfect place for it in Charleston or the mountains. Don’t even waste any more time anywhere else. Keep up the awesome tacos and tequilla Zia!!

Favorite spot on a Sunday afternoon for a tasty Mexican bite. I celebrate the entire menu but really love the individually prepared nacho chips. On Sunday’s and Monday’s they are easy to pair with a frozen screwdriver or two. Make sure to keep the chips and salsa coming!
Stewart M — Google review
I've been here a number of times and I guess I don't really "get it." Unless you sit at the bar or bar area, it's not full service. You have to order your food and drinks at the bar register. I can highly recommend the grilled fish tacos, but at about 4 bucks a piece, they seem to be under stuffed. It's $6 for a small cup of guacamole or queso oh-so-very-lightly dusted with chorizo. On this trip I got the carne asada nachos, despite remembering that I've found most meats on the menu to be pretty mediocre. It was not what I was expecting. It was 8 individually topped nachos, not the typical big mound of nachos that we've all come to expect. For $10.50 I would expect more, but it was decently filling. They do have good margaritas and Cocktails, so I do go back when I'm in the mood for grilled fish Tacos, but I find most of the other options to be lacking in taste and portion size. I just can't really get over the lack of table service. They do have servers running around, but do you tip them if they hardly do anything? I say yes, but it's just a very strange concept to me.

The Daily Cafe - King St is a trendy coffeehouse that offers Stumptown brews, cold-pressed juice, beer, and breakfast sandwiches. The cafe's Summer-ish salad is a refreshing take on traditional salads, featuring fresh ingredients like lettuce from Vertical Roots and Cherokee heirloom tomatoes. Additionally, the cafe boasts three murals created by Shepard Fairey and has become known for its Middle Eastern-inspired vegetarian options.
The best coffee and breakfast place!! The 3 egg burritos is just amazing. The lemon coffee and upside down coffee are must try. We had a 30 min wait and tables are fast occupied. Really great outdoor seating! Their almond milk is house made so a definite try.

We had a second brunch at The Daily. The ordering line was kinda long but we were able to save some seats. The place was pretty radiant with indoor and outdoor seating but this particular day was cold so most people opted to sit inside. We ordered : 1. Whipped feta toast made with fresh baked sourdough top with whipped feta, drizzled with local honey, chives, and cracked black pepper 2. Breakfast sandwich that was so good with bacon, egg, smoked onion jam and pimento cheese and it tasted so good. 3. Spring-ish veggies hash was perfect meal for me with romesco sauce, roasted carrots, mushroom, and bok choy, kale, and over easy egg....so so good. The food came in fair amount of time and someone made sure we had our cups of water filled and our empty plates cleared up. I really like this place and will be back to try out their coffees.

The daily has always been one of my favorites in Charleston! I went both Saturday & Sunday this weekend and got the 3 egg burrito on gluten free corn tortillas, the avocado toast on gluten free sourdough with egg and bacon, and a pumpkin Americano. Insane. The pumpkin is the best I’ve ever had- it tastes just like fall and it is sweet without being overpowering or too sweet. We were able to grab a table outside and our food came out extremely fast. Such a great spot for a casual bite to eat or coffee after a good workout or a long run downtown! Will be back again and again and again.

We came here on a Saturday for brunch and had a little bit of a WAIT. It's a counter service restaurant and seating is kind of scarce and FCFS. If you hang out long enough, you'll get a seat. Food: We ordered the stacked avocado toast and the yogurt bowl. Both were tasty and fresh. If you're REALLY hungry, the yogurt bowl may need some accompaniment. The avocado toast had a lot going on, but it actually worked well. The yogurt wasn't overly sweet and for most it's satisfying. Service: The interaction was just with the counter service person. They were friendly and quick. Ambiance: It's a cozy space that can feel constrained but it's not a huge deal. The colors and the decoration are all pretty cool. Overall we enjoyed it here. We prefer table reservation but that's not always feasible or realistic. If you come here on a weekend, expect a little wait, but the food and the service were great. I can see us coming back again.

We are visiting from Wisconsin on our honeymoon and decided to stop into The Daily because the atmosphere looked really cool and inviting. We walked a ton on our trip and finally decided to stop in for a coffee. The space itself is modern, clean, and has a great vibe that definitely draws people in. However, we were honestly shocked that two lattes came out to nineteen dollars. That just feels way too high, especially with so many other great coffee spots in the area offering similar quality drinks at more reasonable prices. We understand that everything costs more these days, but this was a bit much for what we received. The drinks were not hot enough and lacked the rosemary flavor. The competition around this place is strong and, in our opinion, more affordable without losing any of the experience or quality. This is just our honest and true feedback from two coffee lovers traveling through Charleston.
Ethan H — Google review
Honestly kinda disappointed in the coffee. I got the new Apple pie latte but it’s just milky with no flavor. I don’t even think they put the shot of espresso in and my coffee was barely warm. My husband got the golden milk and it’s hot and flavorful. We went during a slow time too so I’m not sure where the hiccup happened. Not worth $20 for two cups of coffee.

From scratch-made buttermilk biscuits to signature skillet scrambles, the menu is extensive and includes massive portions of classic Southern-style options. Established in 2008 in Mississippi by Chef John Currence, Big Bad Breakfast has expanded across the South, with a location on Meeting Street serving up its signature dishes for breakfast in Charleston.
Loved Big Bad Breakfast in Charleston SC. Went on Sunday at 10a with a party of 6. Only waited 20 mins. Service was stellar and swift. All of the food was warm and delicious. Best biscuit I’ve had. Amazing cold brew. The redneck eggs Benedict was so good and the flapjacks. Highly recommend!!

Shrimp and grits was stellar - the red eye gravy has chunks of seasoned ham and fresh herbs making it some of the most flavorful I've ever tasted. Redneck Benny came with either hollandaise or sausage gravy, so we tried both and were equally pleased. Huevos Rancheros grit bowl had saucy black beans and crispy tortilla strips that added good crunch. The Biscuit crumble's tomato gravy was so tasty. Yes this took multiple visits to enjoy - so do yourself a favor and visit more than once!

Chubby Fish is a cozy seafood restaurant located in a warm neighborhood. The menu features an array of seafood dishes, complemented by an inventive wine selection and delectable desserts. In addition to the seafood offerings, the beef tartare with radish, nori, and ranch is highly recommended. The pricing is similar to another well-known establishment in the area but offers a more casual dining experience.
Absolutely incredible! Finally was able to go with a group of friends by having someone get in line at 4pm to get our name on the list for a later seating. Exceeded my high expectations. Every dish was so flavorful! I also enjoyed the wine list. Our waitress was helpful and service was paced well. Loved being able to share the dishes with the group. Highlights for me were the caviar sliders, the cauliflower and the tile fish curry, but everything was phenomenal. Easily one of the top meals I’ve had in Charleston.

Great meal at Chubby Fish! This place serves incredibly high-quality food and creative dishes. I definitely recommend the caviar sliders, curry oysters, and the bone marrow with fried shrimp. The service was attentive and the atmosphere lively, making it a fun spot for a night out. The only drawback is that it gets very loud inside, so it’s not the best choice if you want a quiet dinner or are with people you don’t know that well. Overall, it’s a must-try Charleston gem for adventurous seafood lovers!

Chubby Fish is such a gem! The service was amazing—our server was both attentive and genuinely welcoming, making the whole experience feel special. The dishes were unique and thoughtfully prepared, with the concept of shareable plates making the meal even more fun and interactive. It felt like a true dining experience rather than just a dinner. On top of that, they were extremely accommodating of allergies within our group, which made us feel comfortable and cared for. Highly recommend if you’re looking for creative flavors, excellent service, and a memorable night out!

My fiancé and I visited Charleston to celebrate a very special week—my 40th birthday which my fiancé proposed to me on!—and Chubby Fish made it truly unforgettable. We dined there our first night in town and were absolutely blown away. After trying another well-reviewed restaurant the next evening and leaving feeling underwhelmed, we decided to return to Chubby Fish—and that decision turned everything around. The moment we walked in and mentioned our celebration, the staff treated us like royalty. Dani and Kate were beyond kind and attentive, making us feel like VIPs the entire evening. Every dish that came to our table was a masterpiece—fresh, innovative, and hands-down the best food we’ve ever had. And we don’t say that lightly. What really left a lasting impression was meeting the owner, James London. You could see how personally invested he is in every single dish. His passion and care are evident in every plate that leaves the kitchen. It’s rare to witness that kind of dedication, and it made the experience even more meaningful. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, buzzing with the kind of energy that tells you something special is happening here. It’s the kind of place you never want to leave—and certainly the kind of place we’ll never forget. Thank you, Chubby Fish, for making such an important moment in our lives even more magical. We can’t wait to come back.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Simply amazing meal. Got in line an hour prior to open on a Thursday evening. Got a seat in the first seating. Proceeded to order until the server said "thats plenty", then ordered a little more. The caviar sammiches are a requirement. The gnudi was hands down the best pasta dish I've ever had in my life. The blue crab toast was magical, all that flavor but didn't over power the delicate lump crab. The lamb ribs were cooked absolutely perfectly. And many others. Well deserved success. Cheers!

What an outstanding experience! We sat at the bar and got to watch the chefs in action—such a treat. Every dish that came out was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Highlights included the oysters, crudo, summer melon with pork belly, sardine toasts (served with phenomenal bread and butter), and the bone marrow with tempura shrimp. Every bite was excellent. We ended the meal with the “Not Fried Chicken” ice cream dessert—so fun and flavorful. The service was fantastic throughout. Be sure to arrive before their 5 PM opening and be ready to line up, as they don’t take reservations. Also worth checking out: the charming little bar next door called Seahorse. A perfect spot to enjoy a drink while you wait!

10/10 no notes. Usually i would write a detailed review of a great dining experience but for Chubby Fish I want to encourage everyone to experience for themselves while sharing my thoughts on how to make it the best time. Line up around 4:30 -4:45 outside the restaurant. As most readers might already know from research they do not take reservations ahead of time. The doors open at 5pm and depending where you are in line you can sit immediately or get a reservation for later. The smaller your party the more flexibility. Ask for a 6:30 reservation even if they have space to sit immediately, you’ll want that time to start next door at their cocktail bar Sea Horse. Telling them you’ll be next door if a table opens up before your reservation time you might get to sit early for Chubby Fish. Sea Horse has a thoughtfully designed cocktail list and wonderful small bites that’s a perfect warm up for your dinner. Once seated at Chubby Fish share as many dishes you can. The team is inviting, warm and exceptional at what they do. Follow this guide and you’ll have a memorable experience.

This was single-handedly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had regardless of the hour wait. The entire staff made sure I was taken care of and recommended their favorite dishes. The sous chef even went on to explain how the dynamic of the kitchen worked. Additionally the cooks also checked in occasionally and made me feel welcome as a solo diner. Rebecca my waitress also shared her insight on dishes and made sure I felt welcome to eat there.

Cook Out is a popular fast-food chain that originated in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1989. It's known for its drive-thru BBQ, burgers, and an extensive selection of over 40 milkshake flavors including unique options like strawberry cheesecake and peach cobbler. Customers enjoy the combination of delicious burgers and a wide variety of milkshakes. The restaurant also offers items like Cajun chicken sandwiches and quesadillas, providing satisfying meals for patrons.
Been through the drive thru 2x, and other than that 3x my roomate has brought me a tray. First of all I go in person now cuz I usually get someone who is genuinely nice and funny! Always helpful! The guy with long hair and tattoos who suggested cherrywine to me tonight (10/4) you're a real one! Food is always good! Always have something left over! And for the price, can't be beat! Bonus points- got a side of onion rings tonight and there was a Bible verse on the bag ❤️

I ordered a Cajun chicken tray with onion rings. The attached picture is what I received. Apparently they ran out of buns and didn't bother to tell me. The lady that came up and tried said that she was off the clock and got really mad and stormed off stating that wasn't her problem. Absolutely love Cook Out but this location needs some serious help. I think you can do better.

came through the drive-thru and was not given the milkshake I ordered. When I went back around to ask for it, the employee was extremely rude—yelling and cussing at me, and telling me to get out of the line. I come to Cook Out regularly and have never been treated with such disrespect. On top of that, she started speaking rudely about me to the other staff members while I was still there. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, and she clearly lacks some home training

Their food is so damn good, easily put. Some of the best hush puppies I've ever had AND it's relatively affordable in this economy!! Staff could be a little friendlier but I mean I've worked in customer service and it's simply not easy every single day to be in a pleasant mood so I get it. Definitely recommend - I don't even eat fast food anymore but I make an exception here.

DT cashier didn't hear me & assumed I didn't tell her how I wanted burger, she was pretty curt about it. Also, I asked for no onions (clearly) and got SO many onions. Boooo. Also, Psalms didn't mention the USA.....(?!) Bad service!

Ok food and the price is unbeatable. Sometimes wait time is hit or miss but they are open late so that's awesome. Clean and nicely decorated.

We like to go here after visiting Wannamaker. The food is always hot and freshly cooked. They also have great prices. Today our cashier, Rakel, was patient and kind to us as my kids took turns trying to order their food. When we needed refills or had questions, the ladies behind the counter were quick to make eye contact and ask how they could help. We will visit again! Also, love their milkshakes!

Food is always good when I go but I had an nice interaction with the blonde woman who seemed to be new and she was taking me and my boyfriends order well, but a shorter curly haired woman who seemed to be the manager started yelling at her for calling out an order that seemed to not need to be called out, which seemed to be a simple error and she was being very rude to her right in front of us and another worker. Just hate seeing management being rude to new people and making them not want to work there.

Handy & Hot is a delightful restaurant nestled in Charleston, South Carolina. The cozy eatery offers a menu filled with traditional breakfast fare infused with Southern flavors, such as biscuits and gravy paired with pimento cheese and tomato jam, as well as grits bowls topped with various ingredients sourced from local farms. The establishment prides itself on using fresh, high-quality ingredients to ensure flavorful dishes. Additionally, the restaurant also serves an array of coffee options.
My wife and I are currently staying at the Renaissance Lindy hotel in downtown Charleston, and we decided to take the front desk’s recommendation to try Handy & Hot for breakfast. We learned from the staff that this cozy spot is owned by Vivian Howard, an award-winning chef, cookbook author, and television personality famous for her shows on PBS. After a bit of online research, I realized she’s also a New York Times bestselling author who has won Peabody, Emmy, and James Beard awards—so I was pretty excited to give her food a try. The breakfast did not disappoint. I thought the breakfast potatoes were perfectly warm, and the eggs were whipped just right with an ideal amount of salt. The bacon was deliciously crispy, and the bread served alongside everything was thick, fresh, and really hit the spot. To Management: My only critique would be the sausage patties—they were a little too greasy for my taste, and I’d personally suggest a healthier (or at least a less heavy) alternative. Otherwise, everything else was fantastic, especially considering the affordable price point. I love that Vivian Howard, who once dreamed of being a writer, has managed to blend her creative passions with her culinary talent, all while raising twins and running multiple restaurants (she also owns Chef & the Farmer in Kinston, NC, and Lenoir here in Charleston). It’s clear she pours her heart into her work—I can see why she’s racked up so many accolades. Overall, I’d absolutely recommend Handy & Hot if you’re in downtown Charleston, whether you’re staying at the Renaissance Lindy or just looking for a satisfying breakfast. With Vivian Howard at the helm, you know you’re getting something special. I fully support her and can’t wait to see what else she comes up with next!

So disappointed. Ive enjoyed food and a few of Vivian Howards restaurants and was so looking forward to trying Handy and Hot in Charleston. I had heard about the hand pies and saw videos and was looking forward to having them. The restaurant is a store front which is part of a hotel. It’s really small but decorated cute and looked inviting. Was there in the afternoon for lunch. Waited at the counter a really long time until someone came to help us. No one was eating or waiting. There were only 2 hand pies in the case which looked like they’d been there awhile. There were only 3 hand pies on the menu which I was surprised about…2 savory, one sweet. Tomato, cheeseburger, and apple jax. I went with 2 tomato, my husband had 1 tomato and 1 cheeseburger. The cashier looked perplexed and kind of shrugged his shoulders and said something like “I can get a few more”. They weren’t cheap at $7 a pop. Waited and waited. The cashier disappeared. Other potential patrons came and went because there wasn’t anything in the case and no one to help them. People from the hotel came and went to and the cashier would pop out and talk to them and then disappear again. Finally got the hand pies. The cashier ended up grabbing the 2 “old” ones from the case and heated them up behind the counter along with 2 others he got from somewhere else. They weren’t served with any kind of sauce which would have helped because they weren’t very flavorful. The outside was greasy and lacked flavor as well. They didn’t contain much filling either. They were glorified hot pockets; and not good ones at that.

Found this place while exploring Charleston and it was just what we were looking for. The employee that helped us was super nice and friendly and he seemed to really know his stuff. The bacon, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich was our favorite. Though just the biscuit itself was really good. Would highly recommend and they have savory and sweet for whatever mood you are in.

Breakfast/brunch place from Chef Vivian Howard located adjacent to Lenoir. They specialize in biscuits and hand pies. We had the sweet potato pie and it was on the sweet side but was delicious and had a great crust. Biscuit was very fluffy and soft as well. The other food is pre-prepared and while a little disappointing, still pretty good even if it's just reheated. Overall, still a great experience and great vibes sitting outside.

Visiting Charleston for a family emergency. Needed to take a walk to clear my head and walked to Handy and Hot. I ordered a cup of decaf. Nothing spectacular but is decaf ever spectacular? The frittata was worth the visit but the tomato pie was not exciting at all. The service was great. Didn’t have to wait long to put in an order and when it appeared I was waiting too long, the young lady asked if she could assist. I’d go back. The high cost of the order was due to location and I get that. The frittata? Excellent.

OMG it was so delicious. We went out of our way on a road trip to eat here. And it did not disappoint! I had the BBQ hand pie. My spies is gluten free, and he had a pimento cheese grits bowl with air dried sausage and pickled tomatoes. We both had the vanilla bean lemonade. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Space to eat inside or out. Wish I’d had room in my stomach to eat more!!

The breakfast sandwiches were really good! The pimento and egg was great, as well as the country ham sando. The vanilla bean lemonade was not very vanilla-y though it had the little bean seeds. Easy little spot and cute interior.

The tomato pie in a pocket was absolutely amazing. I loved the cheese and tomatoes in there with the basil. The chicken biscuit was average, so I wouldn't get that again.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston, Mercantile & Mash is a delightful destination that combines a grocery store, whiskey bar, coffee shop, butcher, and dining area all under one roof. This expansive venue not only serves some of the finest coffee in town but also features an inviting outdoor seating area—ideal for soaking up those warm South Carolina rays.
☕️ Mercantile & Mash is such a cool spot in downtown Charleston. The vibe is chic and laid-back — perfect for catching up with friends or getting some work done. I tried the honey latte and it was amazing — just the right amount of sweetness with smooth, rich espresso. The space itself has a modern-industrial feel with lots of natural light, and there’s always a nice buzz without being too loud. It’s one of those places where you instantly feel comfortable. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to when I’m in the area.

A must-visit in Charleston! Mercantile and Mash blew me away. From the moment you walk into this beautifully restored historic building, you're met with a vibe that blends charm and intentional design. There’s plenty of seating, and it’s not just functional. It’s varied and inviting, with spaces perfect for studying, casual meetups, or just kicking back and relaxing. It somehow manages to feel both open and cozy at the same time. The coffee options are top tier. Thoughtfully crafted and clearly made with care. I had a layered espresso drink that not only tasted amazing but looked gorgeous too. The buffalo chicken sandwich was the real deal. Crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. The menu overall offers great variety, from smoothies to pastries to hearty breakfast and lunch options. One of the standout details was the bathroom setup. Multiple individual stalls that are private and super convenient, especially for a busier place like this. That kind of detail really shows they care about the customer experience. The Mercantile side of the shop is equally impressive. You can browse everything from curated wines to snacks, specialty meats, and gift-worthy local goods. It’s like a high-end market tucked into your favorite café. Service was excellent. Friendly, helpful staff who kept the line moving without making anything feel rushed. I could’ve hung out here all day. Charleston is lucky to have this place. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Mercantile and Mash is worth a visit. Every time.

Visiting from Florida. LOVE THIS SPOT. SUPER CUTE. GREAT VIBE, GREAT SERVICE. Bought a box of black squid ink pasta, and some other goodies! I’m not a big breakfast bowl person BUT THIS was The BEST breakfast bowl I ever had! I didn’t want it to end lol Farm fresh eggs were creamy, bowl was seasoned to perfection, with in-house made sausage. Also in-house made syrups for coffee, cookies were HUGE and SO GOOOD! Wish o had this near where I live.

This is my favorite local place and what I REALLY LOVE is the way they recently designated areas for the laptop people who use to take over the whole place like a WeWork spot. Now I can eat comfortably without staring at laptop screens all around me. I think their new designated areas make sense. Oh and the food is always great!! always!! The staff is the friendliest in town. I promise you.

Great work-from-home/study spot. They recommended certain substitutions for my matcha latte, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had! I also tried their limited edition jalapeño bacon egg and cheese bagel. Outside seating was amazing, and there was plenty of parking.

The food was 10/10! The peanut butter cookies were incredible and the staff was really nice! It was hard to find available seating and it was pretty loud but we went during the busy lunch hours.
Samantha A — Google review
I have loved this place for years. I work remotely and it has always been one of my favorite spots. Recently we were told we had to pack up because most of the tables are now a laptop free zone. The only area where laptops are allowed the back wall was completely full, so we had nowhere else to sit and had to leave. Super disappointing and honestly pretty weird. I have never seen anything like that before and unfortunately we will not be back. It feels like a bad move on their part and I think they will lose a lot of business because of it.
Sarah B — Google review
Nice atmosphere…though you can’t sit just anywhere if you have a laptop, so if they are full in those spots but have seating elsewhere…oh well you have to leave even though you got food and a drink so now you have to eat and drink in your car or on the go after ordering; meanwhile someone else without a laptop can have a seat and enjoy without multitasking. I understand wanting to have more customers since maybe people on laptops can stick around longer…but maybe set time limits for everyone on the WiFi or have a better disclaimer before all this happens. She WAS nice about it, but still made an awkward situation to have to get up and go with everything like I was some kind of mooch. The chair I was at had a broken back and the AC was turned on full blast, so it was a little chilly too. First time there, and won’t be back sadly.

At the moment, the hours are from 8 AM to 2 PM. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There are Uber eat pick up options for delivery. .Its a breakfast spot, pancakes, French toast, burritos and they also serve burgers. They had a unique pancake that was on the menu. It is made with a cereal that I grow up eating as a kid “Fruity pebbles” The pancakes are big.You don’t have to order a normal stack you could order one at a time and mix the different types they offer. I recommend eating it with a fork and knife.

The seating is limited inside so be prepared to sit outside. There is plenty of seating outside. They do have heated lamps so that was much appreciated.

This was my first visit to this establishment. The first impression I had was a hipster type cafe with healthy or trendy selections. I opted for the breakfast plate with sausage ($2 upcharge) and herbed toast ($1 upcharge). The eggs were perfectly cooked (over medium) as well as the delicious hash browns. The herbed toast was wonderful, it had the taste of fried bread. I would recommend this place if you have time to search for parking on the narrow streets. By the way, selections are served on paper plates with plastic utensils.

Had a fantastic meal here! Got the burger which was great and unique. Hands down awesome. Pancake was good. The portions are large. Great atmosphere as well. Staff was extremely friendly. Quick service. Parking was easy. Would definitely recommend checking this place out and putting on your list.

Super cute but tiny! Probably only enough seats for about 12 people total, but we got there a little late around 1 pm on a Sunday and got a seat at the bar! I tried the fruity pebble pancake because I eat like a 6 year old and my friend had the breakfast sandwich (which was great- it had chips on it and the toast was perfection!). We both enjoyed the food very much and the atmosphere is super cute. They do a lot of carry out business but it’s worth sitting down if you can.

Chick-fil-A is a beloved fast-food chain that specializes in mouthwatering chicken sandwiches and nuggets, complemented by a variety of salads and sides. Originating in 1967 from Hapeville, Georgia, this Southern gem has expanded its reach across the nation. Known for its consistently friendly service and delicious offerings, many patrons find themselves returning week after week to enjoy their favorite meals. The drive-thru lines may be long, but they are a testament to the restaurant's popularity.
Using the app then picking up in the drive-thru is seamless delivery of Chick-fil-A's signature service. This location seems to have an endless line of cars always moving like gears around it. I ordered a egg white grill muffin and hash rounds and my total came out to 7.53. They charged me 5.09 to give me a half of a chicken breast on my sandwich and 1.69 for hashrounds that were chilled by the time I got 5 mins away. I called let Charity know what I had issue with, she put me in the "system" and when I got back the cashier only half listened for me to end up with another half a chicken breat on my sandwich and NO hash rounds however I was offered an extra frosted coffee they made too much of so I guess I should be thankful for that. This is not what I expected to receive when I ordered my VDay breakfast smh

My first time in a Chick Fil A! I was blown away with the services, atmosphere, etc., especially when compared with Ronny Mac's, Burger King, and especially Wendy's... the absolute worst in this area. I would have given a 5 star for the food but the French fries were bland, kind of mushy, and not at all crispy!

Not every piece of chicken can be perfect like their customers service..... They should be the blue print when it comes to fast food.
April N — Google review
Am I the only person to constantly have issues with this restaurant? I am a loyal Chick fil a customer! I was a signature member before it was added to the status. I have over 85,000 lifetime points in their loyalty system. I eat a lot of their products. Yet the closest location to my house provides me horrible service on a regular basis, so much that when the location in Northwood Mall was open I would go to the mall and deal with that parking lot traffic rather than deal with the dissatisfaction of the stand alone store drive thru. At one point O was told by a so called manager that if they couldn’t meet my expectation that should find somewhere else to eat, great customer service, right? I can’t be the only person unhappy about the service, temp and freshness of the food, accuracy of my food. Tonight I ordered a spicy deluxe w/ no tomatoes, American cheese, extra pickles, they put a sticker on the box saying what is and isn’t on the sandwich. I got a regular filet, not spicy with tomato seeds and juice on it, 2 pickles Colby Jack cheese. Then my wife ordered a chick fil a deluxe w/ Colby jack cheese and extra pickles, she got a spicy surprise on her first bite and the tomato’s where two end pieces with the stem piece, great quality, right! I know if I to bring this up with the manager on duty, I’d just be disregarded, given move sub par food and irritated. How can we get this location to do better? Like I said I love to eat chick fil a, but don’t want to drive 20-30 minutes away when I have a location right by my house. Oh I almost forgot check out this cup they gave me, that’s for giving me this trash that spilled sweet tea all over my center console while I drove home unknowingly pouring sticky tea everywhere. Plus the fries were cold and hard as a rock just like they should be.

I’ve been going here since I was a kid, and I need to say that the service has gone downhill ever since. Lady who took my order could care less to be there. I just went through the drive-through and all I ordered was two milkshakes and the girl handed them to me with whipped cream and Sticky ice cream all over the outside of the cups dripping everywhere she only included one straw with both milkshakes and when I asked for napkins, she acted like it was a burden to go get them. When she returned and gave me the napkins, I said thank you. She didn’t even respond. This girl had long white braids.

Bojangles is a fast-food chain with a Southern flair, renowned for its crispy fried chicken and fluffy biscuits, along with their signature side dishes. A recent visit to this establishment left me thoroughly impressed. The food arrived promptly and without delay, satisfying my cravings almost instantly. I indulged in their delectable Cajun chicken, which was not only warm but also bursting with freshness and unparalleled flavors. Needless to say, I am eagerly looking forward to returning here again soon.
I am bad with name, but the young manger lady that help me last night before they close is a Saint! Food was fresh, hot, and right on time! Great job night crew!

This was by far the worst Bojangles experience and food I’ve had. We did an online order and the staff were frustrated when we showed up… like c it’s your job. They “didn’t have” a Cajun filet to put between a biscuit or have chicken nuggets. The supremes we got were overcooked and the biscuit was undercooked. The BoBerry Biscuit was BURNT. This whole meal was awful If I was the manager I would check your night crew because that was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I would consider going across the street to Waffle House and save yourself a terrible meal.

I went here the other day and my oh my thing is good. The food came out quick fast and almost instantaneous. I had the good ole’ yummy Cajun chicken. And it wasn’t like cold it was warm fresh and all goodness. You can bet I’m coming here again. I have high hopes that my belly will be filled with all its deliciousness.

This is the worse Bojangles ever. The food is constantly lacking, they skim you are what you order. Family sides are NEVER filled to what they should be, most often they don’t even hit half way makes, they never send the right family side, the chicken is poor tasting like sour and have a burned dried over cooked taste to it. Never mind the fact that I ordered delivery for the second time and ya, the only thing they did not disappoint on, was the sweet tea and that’s probably because they don’t package it there. You try to deal with them, and their employees and management become extremely crude and dismissive. Why not. They act the same way when filling your order. They truly think they are paying you to eat. Night shift is the absolute worse. And I Emma’s that from the very fiber of my being.

Customers appreciate the efficient pickup service and friendly staff across various departments. While prices may be on the higher side, the quality of products justifies it for many shoppers.
Stop by the store to pick up a few items on our way back home to Lowell, Massachusetts after our short vacation in Charleston, SC. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express and Suites next to the market. Our first impression was it's a nice, clean and organized supper market with various sections for prepared meals. We met a very nice lady in the produce section who greeted us with hello and you need help finding something. I said yes, I'm looking for fresh peanuts to bring home. She showed us various peanuts the store has. We picked up a few bags and thanked her for her help. We bought a few bags of fresh cherry plums which we don't have in Massachusetts. We wonder around the store before checking out. We enjoy our shopping trip very much. Highly recommend this super market to everyone. Thank you for your kindness lady in the produce section 🙏❣️🎉

Every time I go to the deli at this Publix, my food is never ready. This morning at 6:47 AM I ordered a sub online to be picked up at 7:15AM. When I arrive to the deli at 7:30 AM, my sub was not ready. There were several people working in the department and no one said a word to me while I was standing there waiting. I had to approach someone who was cutting meat after standing there for about five minutes. I told her my order wasn’t ready lo and behold my ticket was. The ticket that was hanging up, but no one had made my sub. She moved like a snail to make my sub and did not pay attention to special request so I had to remind her That I wanted sub dressing on the side. They were out of containers for the sub dressing and it took her an additional five minutes to go find a containers. My order that was supposed to be done at 7:15 AM did not get into my hands until about 7:45 AM. This resulted in me being late to class. I never have this problem at any other Publix. It’s always this location.

Awesome sauce. Clean, huge selection, helpful associates, I did not have to look for anyone for help. Great team. Super location, fresh produce and bakery
Twanda C — Google review
I really like thus publix. Location can be tricky on your first visit not knowing the parking is on the deck behind the store. And the locking wheels meaning you can't get groceries out to the 1HR parking is extremely aggravating. But it is a clean location, slightly smaller less selection. The service is good though keeping with yhe publix value so overall a good store.
Hawk C — Google review
Never have I ever been into a Publix before this trip but I am pleased to say that I will be returning. I do not live in a city that has Publix grocery stores so I was shocked to walk in and discover how pristine it was. The workers were super friendly and the store was exceptionally clean. They offer a wide variety of fresh foods and even some that can be prepared for you. There are work stations throughout the store passing out small tastes of different foods offered there and my children loved it.

Soul food restaurant
Restaurant
Martha Lou's Kitchen is a cozy spot that draws in locals with its delicious Lowcountry soul food and refreshing sweet tea. Situated on Morrison Drive, this small pink restaurant is renowned for serving some of the finest fried chicken below the Mason Dixon line. The menu boasts classic soul food dishes like macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and catfish. Visitors can savor an authentic Southern experience by pairing their meal with a tall glass of sweet tea.
Fish, chicken, and pork chop were all had at our table and it was all delicious and fried to perfection. There was quite a list of sides to choose from...rice, beans, cornbread, bread pudding and more. Service was delightfully sassy and friendly. These ladies were a joy to visit with. Tiny little shack with limited seating but you can taste the love and you'll love the taste. We'll be back anytime we return to Charleston.
Aaron L — Google review
I grew up in Charleston, South Carolina and when I say there is nothing like when you visit home and having the ability to dine at places you ate as a child brings back fond memories. Martha Lou's Kitchen does just that and more. I must admit I was taken back when I saw Martha Lou's on Food Network and said people are just now learning of one of the best kept secrets in the world. I enjoyed the chicken fried rice, cabbage, and fried chicken breast and it was all that you could ask for and then some. The sweet tea lemonade is the perfect mixture and will have you asking for more. Yes I had room for desert and the red velvet cake will melt in your mouth.
Francis H — Google review
If you are ever in the area, don't miss the chance to eat some good southern soul food and get some love from some sweet ladies who know how to fry. Menu always changes and is hand written each day. Be ready to take a little sass lined with love which makes the food taste even better some how. Awards, photos, and news reviews line the walls. They close early and run out of food. They also only have six tables with room for only about nineteen people. Amazing experience. One of the best places if you are willing to dive in.
Donald G — Google review
Oh wow. Such good food. We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday and had no wait for a sest. Martha Lou's daughter and employees were so friendly it was like we were family. The menu consists of plates - one meat, three sides, and a beverage. Your meat is cooked when you order, so there's a bit of a wait, but, oh, it's worth it. I had the pork chop - it was amazing. The cornbread was like cake, the collards were delicious and the red rice represents the Low Country so well. We drove 2 hours there and 2 hours home and would do it again. And will.
Allison H — Google review
I'm sorry but I have to say my family had a bad experience. We expected to try some good "soul" food, great food, as saying in many reviews. First: there was no "service" at all. We were waiting for our order under rain. There was no menu - only paper sheet with written dishes on the wall. No description, no prices. Meat (chicken) was not bad, may be too salty, juicy, crispy but overall nothing to "rolling your eyes". The same about my wife's fried fish excluding that fact that she got a piece of fish and small piece of chicken)) I understand that cook may have not enough fish but my wife didnt order chicken. That's unrespectful. Sides: backed macaroni - overcooked, white and red rice - just rice, bread pudding - nothing special, lima beans - so salty I couldn't eat it. Sweet tea and lemonade actually were not tea and lemonade but syrups. Tooons of sugar. Couldn't drink it. Our food was packed in a used plastic bag , we found someone's receipt inside)) that's inappropriate. We got a receipt for $30. Can't say thats cheap for food we couldn't eat. And definitely this is not cheap for the simple street food to take-out. I respect kitchen workers, I know that's a hard job, and I hate to leave a bad review but we are very disappointed. If you know WHAT is good food or if you love too cook home - I don't recommend this place.
Natalia Z — Google review
An amazing southern experience. The food is exceptional: fried chicken, collard greens, cabbage, corn bread, and mac and cheese. And Miss Lily is best, she's sweeter than the yummy Lemon Drop she gave me for dessert! Be sure to sign the guest book on your way out

Came here on a whim after seeing a article featuring it. It is a small unassuming place. The food was wonderful. The lady helping us was great. Very friendly. The Fried Chicken did not disappoint and I wish I had ordered more corn bread to take home! Ig we are back that way again I will be back.

Excellent food. We ate fried checken, fried fish, corn pudding, corb bread, string beans, green beans, baked macaroni and white rice. Everything tasted sooo good, I recommend this to everyone visiting Charleston. The restaurant is small but the food is might. There is parking onsite

Bar
Harold's Cabin is a unique and trendy spot that offers a menu featuring homegrown veggies and local meats for breakfast and lunch. The establishment, partly owned by Bill Murray, combines his comedic charm with Wes Anderson's artistic style. Originally a neighborhood corner grocery store opened in 1929, it maintains the bodega tradition by offering local goods on shelves and refrigerated cases.
Great experience! Local brews and delicious food. I thought I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich but got the fried chicken sandwich. Glad I did - so many flavors! It has blackberry BBQ sauce, spring onions, and cabbage slaw. I want to go back to try other things on the menu but it will be hard not to order that again. TIP: Get there early - it fills up.
Tim T — Google review
Unique find, reminded me of some of the homes turned restaurant in Portland and was very trendy. The bar tender was probably the nicest person I ever met, very attentive and when I returned for more drinks he had many patrons, yet asked quickly if I wanted the same drinks. Quickly got me moving while making the other customers drinks. The food was great, burgers and kids meals. The kids PBJ was the best my boys have ever had. Very happy we stopped in, learned another conformable place for us to stop at. Cheers to Harold’s Cabin

A true hidden treasure in the Charleston neighborhood. The food is high quality and very tasty. The drinks are well-made with a good amount of alcohol. The service is great, and the bartenders are friendly. The place is always changing its aesthetic with holiday decorations and different lighting so there's always something new to see. Whether you're local or just visiting, you should definitely give Harold's Cabin a try.

First time here! This is truly a neighborhood gem with a rich history, which I love. Great cocktails, get the salty raccoon, super tasty. We also shared a charcuterie board which was tasty. Great spot to grab a cocktail and a snack. Oh, and they have a record player!

Uniquely wonderful. Well run. Rooftop herb garden. Homestyle feel with live music in a quaint setting. Daily specials, including HAPPY HOUR Local grocery--Whole Foods pop up tent when we went on a Thursday. Bill Murray gets an A+++ for such a great concept! Would be remiss to say the food is fit for a fine dining venue. Venison chili and the market catch fish, shark steak.

Very eclectic! Fun place, very exordinary. We stopped for drinks that were very good. Bing Bang with a frozen cherry, very tasty@

Bar staff downstairs was super helpful and pleasant. Engaged with us and other patrons to help us decide on a few things on the menu. Upstairs bar staff were engrossed in their phones and watching videos loudly... Making for distracting conversation with my wife who was directly in front of me. Food was good. Served quickly. The drinks were great and fairly priced

Fine dining restaurant
McCrady's is a renowned restaurant offering high-concept American cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients in an intimate, brick-walled setting. The building has a rich history dating back to 1778 when it was opened as a tavern by Edward McCrady. It was the site of significant events, including hosting a 30-course dinner for George Washington. Under the leadership of chef Sean Brock, the restaurant gained acclaim for its modern take on Southern simplicity.
This was our second time at McCrady’s and it was even better than the first one. I gave them a second chance because of the great wine paring from the first time. The service was excellent both times!!! The wine paring amazing!! But the great thing was the tasting menu, at this second time we were served warm/hot food and not cold or room temperature plates.
Sofia K — Google review
Great tasting menu experience! The ambiance and service here are top-notch. The views of the kitchen provide a unique experience that you generally do not get to see. It’s a very intimate dining experience that allows you to converse with each other and the others around you. The flavors are southern in nature but elevated. The seafood courses stood out as expected. We had some great wine pairings and service from the staff and the manager. To see the setup after each course is a well-orchestrated show to get to experience.
Brandon W — Google review
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Food was excellent, staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and just a full adventure the moment you walk through the door. The flavors are that of what most never have a chance to encounter. It's almost emotional when you go through tasting what's brought out. I can't give enough praise to everyone there and their efforts. It was my wife's birthday and she's also pregnant so they adjusted all dishes accordingly. She even got the non-alcoholic pairing and never felt left out. Everything matched as if that was the original intent. It's not cheap but if you have the opportunity, don't pass it up.
Ryan S — Google review
Make a reservation! This place is a gem in an ally, the exposed bricks on the inside is abousulty beautiful. The atmosphere is elegant. However I waited about 30 mins for my meal because there was some mix up in the kitchen. However when it finally arrived it was well worth the wait! Had the special of the day and just wow. Great cocktails and a decent wine list. The only thing I would change, is the age limit for dining here, there is nothing about this place that says children, and at one point all I heard was a little one crying. Other than that, over all. Exceptional food and great service.
William B — Google review
Tasting menu here is wonderful. Service here is always top notch. This is a restaurant to treat yourself too. I’ve been here solo twice and each time I feel like I’m in heaven. The menu changes a lot, so you’ll rarely have the same dish. Last time I was here I had the Wagyu supplement they were doing a special of. Best. Steak. Ever. The beverage pairings are top notch, and they know their wine very well.

Dinner was an amazing adventure with a delightful waitress who was very knowledgable. Bread from tiller bread was delicious. I had the duck, my son the scallops, my mom the bucatini and my daughter in law the filet mignon. For dessert we had the brownie.. it did not disappoint would highly recommend

The best of Charleston! Our first time doing a chefs counter type of experience and it did not disappoint. Service + food both on point. The menu will change seasonally, as they try to source locally what's freshest.

great food and excellent service. our pork dish was undercooked and they took it back apologetically and brought us complimentary side dishes and the main. our waitress from new york city remain as friendly and chatty and the manager came by to apologies and make sure everything was not just ok but happy for all and thats beyond expectation. keep it up guys .

Amazing beer selection and possibly some of the best bar food I've ever had

service was great. food is mediocre. if you like craft beers then you'll love the beer selection. ordered pork skins which were awesome. and the mussels. was surprised the fries were served on top of the mussels. thought they would come on the side. mussels were bland. fries were ok. the broth was a beer broth way to strong for my liking. Prices are decent for King street.

Cool bar, good beverage selection, great service. Eclectic and tasteful decor.

This place gets VERY crowded during the weekends, and for EXCELLENT reason. The staff is super friendly, and they have an excellent beer selection. I even got a chance to try the food, once, and it was surprisingly delicious, for a place that makes most of its revenue from alcoholic beverages. It's a very warm-looking location, lots of comfy places to sit with friends, and lots of little, at-home touches. Definitely pop in for a drink.
Kathryn B — Google review
You can't beat the beer list. The sandwiches are all amazing. The kids menu is lacking (non-existent) but we asked to put together a basket and it was better than my sandwich. The place has a really cool vibe and while the staff was incredibly busy, they never appeared so at the table. I look forward to going back and working my way across the beer list again!
Michael G — Google review
The beer selection is mixed. The night we were there the Stout selection was really great but everything else was pretty average. Also, the prices were pretty high compared to other places serving the same beers. It's getting 4 stars only because the beer options they had were better than most around the area
Matt L — Google review
Great place. Beer selection is AMAZING. Over 40 craft beer and more. Great atmosphere. The menu is a little small but both our meals were amazing. Top notch burgers and desserts. The servers are very friendly and more than happy to walk you though the huge beer menu. Don't pass it up, stop in.

Jb's Smokeshack is a cozy eatery known for its Southern BBQ offerings and quirky decor. The menu features all-you-can-eat and individual plates, with highlights such as moist pulled pork, flavorful chicken fried steak, fried chicken, black eye peas, mac'n cheese, and tasty sausages. The sides are good but not as impressive as the main courses. Guests can also enjoy refreshing cucumber mix and delightful banana and vanilla pudding.
Best bbq in the lowcountry. Smokers going right behind the building, under the oaks. Amazing sides. Huge variety of sauces for pork.
Christopher S — Google review
My son had been telling me about how good this place was, so my wife and I decided to meet some friends there and give it a shot. We were all very glad we did! It's a pretty small place, so when it's busy it may be a little hard to find a seat. The food is really worth it though. The fried chicken (lightly battered!) is some of the best I have ever had, and that goes double for the BBQ beans! They serve up a great selection of meats and vegetables, along with a small mom and pop atmosphere. This will absolutely be a place I return to!
Mike B — Google review
I would rate this place at 4.5 stars and I would absolutely come back here again and again to get my fill of barbecue. Had the pulled pork which was very moist, delicious and not overly seasoned. I also had the chicken fried steak, fried chicken, black eye peas, mac'n cheese, sausage were all very tasty. The sides were good but not as great as the food variety except for the cucumber mix which was refreshing and light to balanced out the main course. My kids really loved the banana and vanilla pudding. Next time, I'm going to try out their ribs and brisket
John L — Google review
Absolutely love this place! The pulled pork is moist and delicious, I love how they have a variety of sauces to choose from! The spices they use for their fried chicken and pork chops is mouthwatering! There's a variety of vegetables and delicious things to add to your plate - including ribs and kielbasa! My family and I frequent, in fact I took my boyfriend there the other night, and it was his first time there. He was delightfully impressed and even got a full plate of just pulled pork. We are already talking about the next time we'll get to go over there. The dining room is a bit small, and their policy is "Share a Table, Make a Friend" posted on the wall. There are plenty of tables, though. It would be awesome to see them expand - maybe an outdoor deck or something. All in all, if you like good southern food, check 'em out!
Jen L — Google review
Super friendly inside and out. The chicken is tender and Smokey. The fish is crispy coated anoint inside with just the right amount of seasoning. Pulled pork is tender and naked. Spaces are savoury and not at all overwhelming... Mac n cheese.. Is cheesy and not over cooked. 5 out five doesn't do them credit... Will be a stop every time. I am even remotely in the Charleston area.
Mike M — Google review
This is sort of an odd place. The BBQ itself was very dry by most any standards. They have a lot of side dishes in the Southern tradition...some better than others. THE STANDOUT was the fried chicken, maybe the best I've ever tasted. I asked, they use flour and some (hot) spices. Not to be missed just for the chicken!
Cramer G — Google review
If you're looking for down home fried chicken n homemade veggies this is the place. Simple place just tables in chairs so if you're one stuck on atmosphere you may not like it but if you're coming for the food you'll be happy. BBQ good but I like chicken better. Either way it was a win win for us. I came w two children and we left happy.
Leanna B — Google review
If you like off the grid, friendly, and down home southern cooking, this is the place. We go here once a week.. best to go between 2pm and 5... GO HUNGRY because you will want to try almost everything... great fried chicken... Best value for authentic southern food in ALL of charleston.
