FIG is a downtown restaurant that offers an upscale take on Southern cuisine in a relaxed bistro setting. The menu features seasonal dishes made with high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant's minimalist decor and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere for diners seeking gourmet food without the formality of fine dining.
Fig is a dining experience. The curated menu with the ambiance and attentive service is one of a kind. Our server was knowledgeable about every item on the menu and recommendations on what paired well together, and depending on if you were looking for savory, or fresh, or light he knew it all. The service was immaculate with utensils being changed out every course, water being filled without being asked, and never being reached across. The oysters with the curry butter were perfectly paired. The oysters just slightly cooked, probably with just the hot butter, without any chew or rubberiness often times an overcooked oyster has. The tartare was extremely tender and the perfect temp, did wish for a little more salt on mustard mixed in. The ricotta stuffed gnocchi with the lamb meat sauce was super tender and not gamey. The bouillabaisse is an absolute must with flaky tender fish, and vibrant shrimp. Flavors were unmatched. The Sorghum pudding is the perfect dessert, and their latte was deep with flavor. While on the slightly pricier side for Charleston, this was an experience altogether and not just a simple get your food and get out. Must try.

The clientele is a little stiff. But everything was wonderful. Food is clean, fresh, very well prepared. Plating is simple. All high quality. Chase our waiter was patience and so kind. Drinks are good.

FIG is the perfect spot in Charleston to go for a special occasion. Everything is made to perfection and the service is 10/10. This is one of the few menus where we are open to trying absolutely anything because we know it will be amazing. We had Alex as our server and he added to the experience, being able to perfectly describe complex flavors of the dishes and really paint a picture to how the dishes were made. It is pricey but very worth it. Make sure to get a reservation EARLY though because they sellout quick for weekends.
Zach H — Google review
As always FIG was an amazing experience from the service to the food. We decided to do a dinner of appetizer and were incredibly happy. The chicken liver pâté was fatty, silky and delicious. The pickles shrimp paired very well with the local vegetables. The tomato tart was the highlight. They only have it when tomatoes as in season but if it’s on the menu it’s a must have. We finished with our pasta course of blue crab ravioli and gnocchi. Both were delicious and my wife and I fought over which one we liked more. I was a fan of the blue crab because of the distinctive blue crab taste and sweetness. My wife loved the pillowy gnocchi. You can’t go wrong with either one of these dishes.

Long time Charleston visitor from Orlando. the hospitality is noticeable. As a consistent Party of One, I often feel rushed in restaurants. They didn’t rush me at all! I felt at home. Also, I absolutely hate when restaurants take away the other serving after I’ve sat down. It makes me feel low key loser-esque as I always dine solo. Like my food mate decided not to show up. Other patrons see that and it’s not a good look. Not FIG. The setting for one was already there and I enjoyed that feeling. Again. Hospitality and paying attention to the reservation goes a long way. Very charming eatery

Reservations fill up FAST, and rightly so! I’ve been here twice now and it’s a must go if you’re in Charleston. My recent visit was as good as the first. Our party of four had reservations for 715p on a Friday night. We were seated right away and service was prompt to arrive. We started with a bottle of I Vigneri Nerello Mascalese, which ended up pairing well with the dishes we selected. We ordered multiple small plates to share. - Beef Tartare + Maxim Potato, Vine Ripe Tomato Tarte Tatin, and the Ricotta Gnocchi + Lamb Bolognese. While each of these was delicious, the gnocchi was definitely the stand out. Moving to entrées, we ordered the Brioche Crusted Flounder and the Pork Schnitzel. We also added the Yukon Gold Potato Purée. Everything was seasoned well and flavorful. For dessert we ordered the Sticky Sorghum Pudding and Olive Oil and Pistachio Cake. I have had traditional sticky toffee pudding many, many times, but their version with sorghum in it, brings it to a whole new level. This is quite possibly the best dessert I’ve ever had! From apps to entrees to dessert, everything was absolutely delicious, and the service was attentive. I will continue to visit Fig whenever I get the chance.

I was visiting a friend in Charleston and we couldn't get a reservation but like always the notify me function from Resy helped us out. 8pm on a Wednesday. The place was full but the waitstaff was attentive. We had the oysters, beef tartare, tomato tarte, and ravioli to share. Then, the schnitzel and flounder for main course. Would love to come back again.

We visited Charleston for a short weekend getaway. We dined at FIG to celebrate our friend's birthday and it was AMAZING in every way. The food was absolutely delicious and unique. We ordered several appetizers as well as our entrees and dessert. Each dish was fantastic!! Cocktails and wine were great also. The service was superior as well. Our waitress was attentive and thoughtful with her recommendations and wine pairings. I highly recommend dining at FIG....you will not be disappointed. This may have been the best food I have ever had in a restaurant setting.

Rodney Scott's BBQ is a renowned counter-serve spot known for its Lowcountry-style slow-smoked pulled pork BBQ, chicken, and ribs. The place holds historical significance and is famous for its exceptional barbecue. Rodney Scott, a James Beard-award-winner, uses an old-school approach to South Carolina barbecue by cooking whole hogs over wood embers in a 'burn barrel' for over 12 hours. This traditional method sets it apart from other popular barbecue joints in the area.
Great place in a not so conventional area. You need to drive to get here and there’s not a lot else around. The area is not great but not terrible. The food is very good from what I had but didn’t try anything other than the weekend beef rib special and my son had a regular burger. I would say that overall prices vary well for a great meal and really begs for families to come here as it’s geared to. The staff is courteous and friendly and environment is comfortable. Worth coming to if you’re in the area.
Joe D — Google review
Good BBQ, Can give it a try! I came in with high expectations thanks to all the buzz — and while the BBQ was good, it didn’t quite blow my mind. The pulled pork was tender and smoky, and the sauce had a nice tang, but honestly… I’ve had better in less-hyped spots. Ribs were solid, and the sides were decent — not life-changing, just good. Corn bread was nice. The vibe is cool, fast-casual with a local feel, and the staff was friendly. But for all the attention this place gets, I expected something a little more memorable. It’s worth a visit if you’re nearby and craving BBQ — just don’t expect a religious experience. This isn’t the holy grail of smoked meat, but it’s a respectable stop in Charleston.
Brownbiggy — Google review
We had 3 great meals and the only thing I had negative to say was the noise level was a bit high. The meat was perfectly smoked and presented with little fat to pick and no need for sauce. (I didn't like any of the BBQ sauces anyway.) The side dishes were also good. Parking was easy and there was plenty of seating, even with the short wait for service. It took only a few minutes for our meals to be delivered. Servers were quite attentive so make sure you tip!
Raymond B — Google review
We stopped by Rodney Scott’s BBQ and went straight for the tray with three kinds of meat. It was outstanding—tender, smoky, and full of flavor. Each cut had its own character, but all of them were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The portion was generous, and it really felt like the best way to experience what this place is all about. I also have to highlight the fish sandwich. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be such a standout at a barbecue spot, but it was excellent. Crispy on the outside, moist and flavorful on the inside, with just the right balance of seasoning and texture. It was simple, but done with so much care that it really impressed me. The vibe is casual and welcoming, and the food speaks for itself—hearty, satisfying, and memorable. I would definitely recommend Rodney Scott’s not just for the barbecue classics, but also for that fish sandwich, which turned out to be one of the best surprises of the meal.
Kristina Z — Google review
The restaurant had been recommended by our Uber driver and it did not disappoint. This is more of a cafeteria style restaurant. You order at the cashier and someone brings the food to you on a try. Do not be fooled by the basic setup here. The food is outstanding. They offer a variety of sauces at the table. We had wings, brisket potato salad and beans. All were top-notch. The portions are big so come hungry.

We just did a tasting menu with Lauren and had a blast! We left with smiles and full and happy bellies. Everything was so fresh and on point. Can’t wait to give our friends and family a Charleston bbq experience for our special day. Thank you so much! - Jess & Jeff

We stopped by this Black-owned barbecue spot while visiting Charleston, and it was really good. Coming from Texas, we’re pretty tough critics when it comes to barbecue, but this place held its own. The food was flavorful and fresh, the staff were friendly, and the manager made a point to come around and check on everyone, which was a nice touch. Even though it was busy, the wait wasn’t long, and the service stayed on point. Great atmosphere, great location, and overall a really solid experience. We’d definitely come back next time we’re in town!

We stopped in for some BBQ, and we were not disappointed. Food was worth the hype, friendly staff, and good atmosphere. Easy parking across the street made the experience better. Brisket was delicious, well balanced, smokey, and tender. Kids had some burgers, which were a bit under sized I think. Suggesting they double the size for a better customer experience Over all would strongly recommend

Husk is a culinary gem nestled in a beautifully restored Victorian-era home in Charleston's historic district. Since its inception in 2010, this restaurant has captivated both critics and food enthusiasts with its innovative approach to Southern cuisine, led by the talented James Beard award-winning chef Sean Brock. The menu is a delightful surprise that changes daily, showcasing locally sourced Low Country ingredients and honoring traditional Southern heirloom recipes.
We chose to celebrate our ten year anniversary at Husk. We had scallops for our appetizer, that were fresh and light but I would prefer a sear or for them to be warm. I appreciate the creativity of the chef though! I am celiac so wanted to have the cornbread which was a savory delight! We were surprised to only see one fish entree on the menu and that’s what I chose for my entree! It too was very creative with lots of flavor. My husband had the rabbit and while a much heavier and heartier dish, he enjoyed it as well. I think we both would have liked to see more fish on the menu but maybe there is on other nights. Our server was excellent! He was very knowledgeable and aware allergens. I felt very safe eating here with celiac and was so pleased with the options. One way to make a celiac happy is to have more options on the dessert menu and there were several! I couldn’t believe the cake we shared was gluten free! It was out of this world and probably my favorite part of the meal!
R S — Google review
We had the chance to dine at Husk, a place we’d heard so much about. The atmosphere is warm and lively, and the staff have a great sense of humor—at one point they were laughing that my partner’s shirt looked just like their uniform. The color was almost identical, though theirs was cotton and his was linen. A lighthearted detail that made the evening even more memorable. The tuna tartare was good, though it took quite a bit of persuading to get bread with it. Oddly enough, other dishes on the menu include bread, but here it seemed like a challenge. Eventually, the waiters relented and brought it over. The real highlight of the evening, however, was the mushroom pasta. Perfectly cooked, layered over a rich mushroom purée (or perhaps a silky sauce), topped with grits. The dish was boldly seasoned with black pepper—spicy, sharp, and pronounced—yet beautifully balanced. Paired with a glass of Pinot Noir, it was perfection. Out of our entire trip, this is the one dish that truly stayed with me. In fact, I would say it’s the best dish I’ve had in the past year—even compared to meals in Michelin-starred restaurants.
Kristina Z — Google review
Made birthday reservations and our waiter Kevin was absolutely amazing! Fantastic suggestions, perfect timing on the courses and drinks. Hit all of the highlights and answered all of our question; even when he said he'd have to differ to the bartender Damian when we asked for suggestions about adding a shot of something to the mockingbird, mocktail (Bar Hill Tom Cat gin, I will not be able to recommend this enough and I'm not usually a gin drinker). The oyster starter was grilled to perfection and my companions arent usually fans of oysters and I nearly had to fight them for my share! The pimento cheese and ham was super flavorful and the biscuits fluffy while still being sturdy, great highlight to the house pickles. The scallop starter was light and flavorful, a little bit of spice from the jalapeño, but not too overwhelming. The cornbread side was absolutely delightful, the eggplant flavorfull and well roasted. The chicken fried rabbit was jucy and delicious, the grits and gumbo offset it with a wonderfully deep, rich flavor. The pastrami was pull apart soft and juicy, with some solid roasted potatoes. The diver scallops were buttery smooth and melt in your mouth; the succotash was lightly sweet, with a lot of good corn flavor and a hint of roasted tomatillo. The icebox cake was much lighter than I was expecting with a good mocha flavor and smooth dark chocolate pastry. The seasonal ice cream we went with was the muscadine, which is apparently a local grape, which we never would have guessed, and will now go on, wishing it was a flavor we could get shipped back home with us to MN. It was absolutely amazing, light and flavorful with some vanilla bean, and i now have a quest to get my hands on some of those grapes. We will absolutely be returning for more seasonal options and to find out whats for dinner next time!

This was the most amazing experience. Our server Chris was phenomenal. We came for a special occasion and the staff KNEW. It was phenomenal. The menu was personalized for us. The food was phenomenal. We had the Carolina rice, cornbread to start - I would recommend splitting one of those not getting both. They were both amazing but it definitely was a generous portion so it was tough to finish the entrees. For mains we had pork rib eye and rabbit rigatoni. Both were amazing. Drinks were served quickly and cold so we were happy campers. After dinner we headed to “the bar at husk” which was also a great place to settle in after a hearty dinner. Definitely an earned reputation for Husk. Top 10 dining experience.
Andrew M — Google review
Firstly, beware that there are two sides of HUSK. One is fine dining and the other is casual bar dining. We mistakenly went to the casual side although we intended on fine dining, we weren't disappointed. The food were delicious and the service was excellent and the ambience was great. The burger and fries were the best I've had a a restaurant and okra was amazing. I recommend this place for a great dining experience.

This is one of my favorite brunch spots in Charleston—it’s definitely a staple! I would highly recommend anything on the menu, but the deviled eggs are absolutely incredible. I also loved the shrimp and grits, and the pimento cheese plate with biscuits and prosciutto is a must-try. The service here is always amazing—the staff is friendly, attentive, and really makes the experience special. Husk is one of those places you’ll keep coming back to! It’s my second time this summer😋
Gray S — Google review
WOW. It was packed on a Monday night and it’s easy to see why. The dirty california gold rice was insanely flavorful and moist, the cornbread skillet was delicious, the pastrami brisket was so tender with a flavorful crust…such an unreal meal! The menu changes daily, which is so fun. Our server, Chris, was also wonderful and so helpful. Definitely make a reservation and check out Husk if you’re in Charleston!
Paige D — Google review
Wonderful restaurant with an excellent menu that reflects Charleston and the surrounding area’s culture. Although the menu changes somewhat from what I hear, the “chicken fried rabbit is the best I have ever tasted - moist with excellent flavors. Don’t miss this dining experience if you are visiting this beautiful city.

Lewis Barbecue Charleston is the go-to spot for the best Texas-style house-smoked meats in Charleston. Pitmaster John Lewis, a Texas native, brings his expertise and hand-welded smokers to deliver flavorful smoked barbecue with traditional cowboy favorites. The industrial-hip space features a bustling bar and ample outdoor picnic tables, creating a vibe reminiscent of Austin, Texas. Guests can enjoy their choice of meats served cafeteria-style along with classic Texas barbecue sides and a full bar.
My husband keeps saying how good Lewis BBQ was! The brisket was the best he says he ever had. The turkey was mwlt in your mouth and crazy moist! My son enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. The brisket nachos were a meal themselves and were tasty. The Mac and cheese and tallow fries were delectable. We also got the potato salad and a hunk of cheddar cheese, both are very good. The potato salad has a vinegar flavor and just wasn't what we ate used to. That restaurant has a great atmosphere. The location of the drinks is a little backwards and is back by where you order food rather than being after the checkout. Parking also was a little hard as the small parking lot was full so we had to find street parking a street away but helped get a short walk in after our huge meal. We will definitely return if we are ever in the area again. May have to convince my husband to book a cruise out of Charleston just to have an excuse to return!

We are always in the prowl for best bbq. We only ever thought Mad Jacks in Cloud Croft New Mexico was the only best place; Lewis BBQ has exceeded our expectations! Best brisket and turkey we have ever had! Its a bonus, since we are from NM/AZ that they use Hatch Green chilis in their food! That makes it absolutely incredible to even find Hatch green chili anything in the south! Very very highly recommended!!

I highly recommend this restaurant! Haley, Will, and Nolan provided an amazing experience! They were personable, helpful with questions, and make sure my family visiting was taken care of. My food was absolutely amazing and a pretty good price based on serving size. The brisket was amazing as well! I will definitely be returning!

First time. Definitely reminds me of Texas brisket in the DFW area. The pulled pork blew me away. Moist , tender and very flavorful. Coleslaw was completely different from any coleslaw I have had. It was good and refreshing though. Definitely give this a place try if you're in Charleston

BBQ to die for. Hands down the best pulled pork I've ever had in my life. Moist and tender, but not mushy. Full of meaty pork flavor. With just the perfect hit of vinegar. Brisket so tender, you can cut it with a--plastic-- fork. Smokey and Oak-ey with a great, sweet, crackly crust. Juicy moist and perfect meaty, tender ribs.coleslaw has the tang of pickled onions in it and creamy mac and cheese with a little bit of crust... This is barbecue HEAVEN. PLEASE PLEASE OPEN A LOCATION IN PENSACOLA!!! WE WILL COME EVERY WEEK ❤️

Hats off to John Lewis and staff for treating us to a smorgasbord of smoked meats and delicious sides. The food brought me back to central Texas with the sweet wood smoke in the air, melt in your mouth brisket, spicy Texas sausages, and fall off the bone beef ribs. We enjoyed the hospitality at the bar and laid back vibe of the outdoor patio. While I would come back every day for the beef brisket, a surprising second favorite was the smoked turkey breast with green chile BBQ sauce. Congratulations on building a fantastic restaurant experience John!

Brisket and mac and cheese are easily the best, probably ever. We visited twice - first time we waited in line for about 30-45 mins but the second time was very quick! Only a few groups were in front of us. They offer a choice of lean or fatty brisket which is really nice. Tap beers/bar items available for enjoying while you wait in line.
Kaylyn C — Google review
Waited a whole year to come back to this place. Food is honey and comforting. We really like the pulled pork, Mac n cheese and the banana pudding. Oh and don't forget the sweet tea! We got lucky and found a spot in their parking lot. The wait in line was about 30 minutes but well worth the wait and the drive from Summerville. Every time we are out this way we will stop here. They ship everything nationwide now so we're going to order some for our friends and family to try it.

French restaurant
Restaurant
Chez Nous is a charming restaurant located in the historic residential neighborhood of Cannonborough-Elliotborough. The cozy space gives diners the feeling of being in a French family's home, where they are served with love and affection by the welcoming French couple who own the place. The menu offers a standard three-course meal that changes daily, featuring two options for each course. The dishes are beautifully plated and prepared with near-perfection.
Where shall we go today, France or Italy? Perhaps a bordertown experience ala Courmayeur? Having been to Charleston once before, I was interested in stepping outside the local low-country cuisine to experience a restaurant with different, even European aspirations. Chez Nous filled that bill quite nicely. The restaurant is in a converted house down an alley far from bustling King Street. Although they have a lovely patio, be sure to request an inside table if the weather concerns you. While not strictly a farm-to-table purist kitchen, the approach is absolutely one based in local, fresh, and high quality ingredients. The menu ( handwritten by the chef in both French and English) is more than concise: two starters, two entrees, and two desserts are presented each day—perhaps with the goal of relieving you of the decision-fatigue so prevalent in modern life. Regardless of intent, the approach is liberating. You make reservations here with the understanding that you are relying on the chef’s selection of ingredients determining what she will cook that day. There is no burning desire to preview the menu online and succumb in advance to our predilections. Instead, proceed with faith. The starter I chose, an antipasto dish of prosciutto, burrata, and strawberries was simple and delicious. We tried both Main’s: the spaghetti con vongole (clams from Oregon) and the fried chicken. The pasta was al dente and the sauce delicate. The chicken thighs (my personal favorite piece of yardbird) was also perfectly cooked. The scarpetta ( cleaning the plate Italian style with bread) was more than warranted. The wine list is well-curated, with most wines from France, Italy, and Spain. (I was told the owners have a wine bar in Paris as well). I selected a French Bourgogne (Chardonnay) that worked brilliantly with both of the mains. The dessert finished it off, a chocolate and olive oil cake with a delicate white sauce. For that, I selected a glass of the French Chinon (Cabernet Franc). The service by Nicki was attentive, and her wine knowledge evident. The final act was a hand pulled single espresso with beans from a local roaster —with a nice crema on top. $245 for two with a $79 wine and a glass of the Cabernet Franc—in line with fine dining in town. I will be back one day for another series of choices by the chef.

Chez Nous is an absolute must try in Charleston (if you can get in!). Tucked away with its charming, intimate atmosphere, it feels like a secret you’re lucky to stumble upon. The menu changes daily, which makes the dining experience feel truly special. The hanger steak with onions was perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor and likely one of the best I’ve ever had. The trout with hazelnut brown butter was equally outstanding: rich, delicate, and beautifully balanced. And to finish, the pot de crème au chocolat was nothing short of delightful—silky, decadent, and the perfect sweet ending to a memorable meal. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and the whole evening felt like dining at a friend’s home in Europe. Chez Nous captures the magic of simple, thoughtful cooking at its finest. I can’t wait to return and see what’s on the menu next time!

I recently dined at this restaurant during a work trip with my colleagues from NJ, and we were truly impressed. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed yet elegant evening. Our server Lianna was warm, attentive, and made us feel welcomed from start to finish. The food was outstanding and beautifully prepared with authentic flavors that highlighted the best of French cuisine. Every detail, from presentation to taste, exceeded expectations. A wonderful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an intimate and memorable meal. I wish I lived in the area so I could savor the dishes every week!!

Fantastic daily changing menu. Our visit with three people we ordered both apps (lamb skewers, and Burrata with eggplant) to share and each had an entree (herbed chicken and potatoes, and grouper with a saffron broth). All the food was amazing. Dessert also delicious. The price is high but the quality is there.

fyi, not all superb restaurants are on King St...thanks for the reminder that food indeed can be transformative, is memory - restorative. This fish reminded me how I miss lunch in the French countryside: the crunch of fresh baguette...unoaked Chardonnay, luscious poisson avec dessert financier. A walk I will long remember...ad

Epic lunch, fantastic food with daily menu changing and pristine patio vibes in the cool weather. Duck confit salad was a star and the wreckfish was tasty too.

This was my first visit after years of hearing all of the accolades! What an absolute treat especially after returning after 5 fabulous weeks in Paris! We three ordered every item on the menu between us and basically returned clean plates. It was without a doubt the food we’ve had in a while in Charleston! My spaghetti with crab was simply suburb! It’s a fabulous adventure that we look forward to visiting sooner than later this next time! ❤️🇫🇷

We sat at the bar and Hilton was our server — he made the whole experience even more special! His wine recommendation was perfect, and the food was insanely good — every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. We’d highly recommend trying the entire menu. The atmosphere and mood of the space are incredibly well curated and thoughtful. Can’t wait to come back!

Chubby Fish is a cozy seafood restaurant located in a warm neighborhood. The menu features an array of seafood dishes, complemented by an inventive wine selection and delectable desserts. In addition to the seafood offerings, the beef tartare with radish, nori, and ranch is highly recommended. The pricing is similar to another well-known establishment in the area but offers a more casual dining experience.
Absolutely incredible! Finally was able to go with a group of friends by having someone get in line at 4pm to get our name on the list for a later seating. Exceeded my high expectations. Every dish was so flavorful! I also enjoyed the wine list. Our waitress was helpful and service was paced well. Loved being able to share the dishes with the group. Highlights for me were the caviar sliders, the cauliflower and the tile fish curry, but everything was phenomenal. Easily one of the top meals I’ve had in Charleston.

Great meal at Chubby Fish! This place serves incredibly high-quality food and creative dishes. I definitely recommend the caviar sliders, curry oysters, and the bone marrow with fried shrimp. The service was attentive and the atmosphere lively, making it a fun spot for a night out. The only drawback is that it gets very loud inside, so it’s not the best choice if you want a quiet dinner or are with people you don’t know that well. Overall, it’s a must-try Charleston gem for adventurous seafood lovers!

Chubby Fish is such a gem! The service was amazing—our server was both attentive and genuinely welcoming, making the whole experience feel special. The dishes were unique and thoughtfully prepared, with the concept of shareable plates making the meal even more fun and interactive. It felt like a true dining experience rather than just a dinner. On top of that, they were extremely accommodating of allergies within our group, which made us feel comfortable and cared for. Highly recommend if you’re looking for creative flavors, excellent service, and a memorable night out!

My fiancé and I visited Charleston to celebrate a very special week—my 40th birthday which my fiancé proposed to me on!—and Chubby Fish made it truly unforgettable. We dined there our first night in town and were absolutely blown away. After trying another well-reviewed restaurant the next evening and leaving feeling underwhelmed, we decided to return to Chubby Fish—and that decision turned everything around. The moment we walked in and mentioned our celebration, the staff treated us like royalty. Dani and Kate were beyond kind and attentive, making us feel like VIPs the entire evening. Every dish that came to our table was a masterpiece—fresh, innovative, and hands-down the best food we’ve ever had. And we don’t say that lightly. What really left a lasting impression was meeting the owner, James London. You could see how personally invested he is in every single dish. His passion and care are evident in every plate that leaves the kitchen. It’s rare to witness that kind of dedication, and it made the experience even more meaningful. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, buzzing with the kind of energy that tells you something special is happening here. It’s the kind of place you never want to leave—and certainly the kind of place we’ll never forget. Thank you, Chubby Fish, for making such an important moment in our lives even more magical. We can’t wait to come back.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Simply amazing meal. Got in line an hour prior to open on a Thursday evening. Got a seat in the first seating. Proceeded to order until the server said "thats plenty", then ordered a little more. The caviar sammiches are a requirement. The gnudi was hands down the best pasta dish I've ever had in my life. The blue crab toast was magical, all that flavor but didn't over power the delicate lump crab. The lamb ribs were cooked absolutely perfectly. And many others. Well deserved success. Cheers!

What an outstanding experience! We sat at the bar and got to watch the chefs in action—such a treat. Every dish that came out was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Highlights included the oysters, crudo, summer melon with pork belly, sardine toasts (served with phenomenal bread and butter), and the bone marrow with tempura shrimp. Every bite was excellent. We ended the meal with the “Not Fried Chicken” ice cream dessert—so fun and flavorful. The service was fantastic throughout. Be sure to arrive before their 5 PM opening and be ready to line up, as they don’t take reservations. Also worth checking out: the charming little bar next door called Seahorse. A perfect spot to enjoy a drink while you wait!

10/10 no notes. Usually i would write a detailed review of a great dining experience but for Chubby Fish I want to encourage everyone to experience for themselves while sharing my thoughts on how to make it the best time. Line up around 4:30 -4:45 outside the restaurant. As most readers might already know from research they do not take reservations ahead of time. The doors open at 5pm and depending where you are in line you can sit immediately or get a reservation for later. The smaller your party the more flexibility. Ask for a 6:30 reservation even if they have space to sit immediately, you’ll want that time to start next door at their cocktail bar Sea Horse. Telling them you’ll be next door if a table opens up before your reservation time you might get to sit early for Chubby Fish. Sea Horse has a thoughtfully designed cocktail list and wonderful small bites that’s a perfect warm up for your dinner. Once seated at Chubby Fish share as many dishes you can. The team is inviting, warm and exceptional at what they do. Follow this guide and you’ll have a memorable experience.

if you are in Charleston, SC you have to go to Chubby Fish. The food, the flavors, the staff - everything was great!! Our waitress was knowledgeable and recommended great dishes for our group. We lined up right at 4pm and were able to be seated at 5pm with a group of 7. They explained they really try to get everyone on the waitlist in and will stay open later just so people who want to eat - can!

The entrance to the restaurant is through a hidden garden courtyard illuminated by charming carriage lanterns, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The dining room features velvet-lined walls, attentive servers, and a deluxe supper club ambiance. The menu showcases sophisticated interpretations of Southern cuisine prepared to high standards.
This establishment has been on my list ever since I discovered the existence of the coconut cake. The food was great. I had the steak, smashed potato salad which were both phenomenal. The lobster three ways was also delicious. The coconut cake was heavenly. I definitely understand why it popular. The staff really puts a lot of effort into your experience.

The food here is outstanding. But the service is even better. The wait staff of very attentive and the executive chef even came out to see how the food turned out. I did not get a picture of everything as there were 9 of us. But suffice to say everything was very very good.

Charleston never disappoints! First time at Peninsula Grill! So classy. And Cory will take care of you at the Champagne Bar! He is amazing! Cliquot by the glass! Steak is so good. Didn’t try the coconut cake because we were too full, but it needs to happen!

The Peninsula grill was everything an upscale southern steak house should be. The vibe was classy but not at all pretentious . Our sever Ben was warm and very helpful in guiding our selections on everything from appetizers to wine. The cocktails were fantastic and the steaks perfectly cooked. The warm potato salad was one of the best things I ate in Charleston. And of course, the coconut cake slaps. I would definitely recommend the peninsula grill to anyone looking to have a nice night out in Charleston.

Peninsula Grill is an amazing restaurant. My wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary. Stephanie was our waitress and she was very hospitable and attentive. Unfortunately, half way through our wonderful meal, my wife had a medical issue arise. The manager and staff were very accommodating in helping us during this event. We are very thankful for your generosity during this event and we will return.

Exceptional food. Extremely attentive service. Reasonable portion sizes for fine dining. Outside seating area looked very nice though we sat inside. We had a reservation so no wait on our table. General atmosphere/ambience is probably becoming a bit dated but still a quality experience. We got the lump-crab soup, and lobster 3 way for an appetizer. The scallops and a grouper special for mains courses with sides of brussel sprouts and potatoes. We splurge and grabbed an American Wagyu off the Wagyu menu (not sure if this is a limited thing as it was not in the main menu, they also had options for Japanese A5). Then finished everything off with a slice of the Coconut Cake. Absolutely no complaints on the quality and flavor of food. We did not touch the Salt or Pepper. We parked just south at the Cumberland Street Garage for like $8 for the 2 hours.

Restaurant
The Obstinate Daughter, located on Sullivan's Island, offers an inventive menu of New American cuisine with a touch of French, Italian, and Spanish influence. The elegant country-chic space serves shareable plates such as wood-roasted clams, seasonal vegetables, oysters from the raw bar, flatbread with butterbean puree, and Frogmore chowder. Main dishes include veal cutlet over creamy grits and Capanelle made with seasonal fish.
This was the BEST meal i have ever had. I work in the food service industry, the waitress was so kind and she took the time to make the experience personal. We ordered the flat bread, the gnocchi, and the vodka pasta! SOOOO good 10/10 would come back! We also tried a bunch of desserts and they where so good! Come with a very empty stomach bc you will not want to stop eating the food.

The other reviews are right…this place was so delicious! The service, food, and cozy vibe were all amazing. My favorite dish was the farro & Brussel sprout salad (I never knew something so simple could have so much flavor! & the crunchy peanuts were such a pleasant surprise!). Our second favorite was The Rutledge pizza. We also ordered the radiatore pasta, pesce a la plancha, and chocolate mousse. All yummy :)

Everything was awesome from the service, the vibes, and the food. Must get reservation as wait time in peak beach season is usually 1.5-2.5 hrs. Pizza is fantastic with nice dough, and fresh ingredients. Definitely more wood fired Neapolitan vs thin and crispy. Pasta was clearly fresh, huge portion, perfectly cooked and salted well. Sauce soaked up in the noodles well but didn’t make them soggy. Parking is slightly difficult, with minimal spots attached and then street/paid parking around it.

Ahhhhmazing pizza! We went during the time pizza is only served. Ordered the Moultire & ruthledge pizza as well as the Obstinate Flatbread. The shiitake mushrooms on the moultire were potent & tasted great. The sea salt on the flatbread with the puree was such a great balance. We sat outside & service started out great & then our server didn’t come around for a good bit. We had empty drinks for about 10 mins & also took another 10 mins to get the bill after we asked for it. Will be back again to try other food items & hope service is better.

The Obstinate Daughter is a must-visit on Sullivan’s Island. The pizza was excellent — perfectly crispy crust, flavorful sauce, and just the right balance of toppings. I also had the meatball sandwich, which was outstanding — the meatballs were tender, the sauce rich, and the fresh mozzarella on top made it perfect. The grilled veggies and greens on the side were a great complement. The atmosphere is fun and coastal, and the service was friendly and attentive. A fantastic spot for great food and a relaxed vibe!

Outstanding restaurant. We did not have a reservation but were able to get seats at the bar. Frank the bartender was terrific and helped us with drink and food choices since this was our 1st time here. Frank really knew the food and also recommended a perfect wine pairing with our 2nd dish. We split the N. Carolina Apple Salad of celery, apples, mint and dates dressed in a vinagrette with dots of gorgonzola cream on the plate. It's only available during the fall season so we went for it and were glad we did! (Pardon the salad pic taken after we began eating it!) Our 2nd splitter was a white pizza called Five Fathom Hole 3.0 with clams, rapini, mozzarella, garlic, chili flakes and fresh lemon to squeeze on it. We also had a cocktail, beer and a glass of wine.
Judy K — Google review
This restaurant doesn't particularly cater to children but it looked like the perfect, quintessential Sullivan's Island vibe I was looking for so we took a chance. We showed up after a long day walking around Charleston with cranky kids, but they were kind and understanding. We decided to start the kids off with gelato because they were hangry and we were able to order a simple, kid friendly pizza for them to share. Hubby and I both got pasta dishes and everything came out delicious. He also said his espresso martini was the best he's had. If you are looking for a casual but classy vibe with elevated food options this is the place.

We had been in The Obstinate Daughter during our vacation This might be the best pizza we’ve had in a long time. The crust, the quality of the ingredients, and the balance of toppings were all spot-on — a true treat for the taste buds. The salads were incredibly fresh, and the servers were so friendly, helping us with our selections. We finished with a flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which we absolutely loved. We will definitely be coming back.

Restaurant
The Ordinary is a trendy seafood restaurant located in a 1920s bank building on Upper King Street. Since its opening in 2012, it has been a pioneer in the raw bar trend in Charleston. The restaurant offers a variety of seafood dishes including oysters, crudo, caviar, and fish-head gumbo. It also boasts a rum-centric focus with an array of cocktail classics and house specialties.
It’s hard to live up to hype but The Ordinary delivered. Great service and delicious food and drinks. Loved the room - we were a group of 5 that sat upstairs overlooking the dining room. Get the oyster sliders, steak tartar and smoked oysters.

Our server, Alison, was very knowledgeable and provided excellent guidance and impeccable service throughout our dining experience. Started with the fish cake. Very light and tasty. I had the Red Snapper, so many flavors. Every bite was heaven. My wife, had the Waygu steak with mushrooms, so delicious! Usually, I am leery of going to a seafood restaurant and ordering anything other than seafood but in this case, I would not hesitate ordering the steak! For a side we went with their seasonal rice dish. So many flavors For dessert we had the Pannacotta paired with a glass of white port wine and Chocolate Hazelnut pot de creme paired with a tawny port. We savored every bite and enjoyed this dining experience, from start to finish.

We received a very generous gift certificate to The Ordinary as a wedding gift, as we were visiting Charleston on our honeymoon, and we had a wonderful and memorable dining experience from start to finish! We were impressed from the moment we were seated. The restaurant and bar spaces were expansive with huge windows and soaring ceilings, and beautifully decorated. We were welcomed at our table by a little handwritten card wishing us “congratulations,” and our server, Allison, was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and thoughtful. After delivering our cocktails and complimentary bubbles, she offered to take our photo and proceeded to arrange not only our seating but the items on the table to ensure a very nice shot! Our cocktails were uniquely crafted and very enjoyable, not too heavy or sweet. My husband ordered the crab cake appetizer and the snapper for his main course. I ordered the Wagyu Steak Diane and we shared a side of the seasonal rice (without the shrimp) - every bite of food was so flavorful! We paired our desserts with a white and a tawny port. Fabulous dinner and dining experience. I imagine it’s often said: anything BUT ordinary!

Had an okay experience at The Ordinary. I thought most of our food was generally good, but my grouper was overcooked. For close to a $50 entree, I expected flawless. Cool atmosphere and great service, but the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. Definitely time to refresh your furniture!

This place is amazing! Kian, our server, was so attentive and timely during our experience, not to mention Chef De Cousine, Zach Crosby, who came out of the kitchen to introduce himself. They take so much care into what they do. I will be back!

I finally returned back to The Ordinary, and it was just as good the second time. A staple is the Fried Oyster Slider, it is a MUST! So much flavor and the oyster is fried perfectly. Beware if you don’t like spice, there was a Jalapeño on it this time. Easy fix to take it off though. We tried the raw bar oysters as well— locations all in SC/NC. I prefer briney oysters, and I would say these were on the milder side. One of the servers actually described one as a “sweet marshy” 😂 For entrees my husband and I shared the MUSTARD CRUSTED BEELINER SNAPPER, and I was wildly surprised I enjoyed the creamed corn that it was with. I honestly chose it with minimal thought— the whole menu looked great. Our friend had the Smoked Bird Island Cup Oysters, and she said it was great. Only complaints were HUGE bites. Maybe avoid that for a first date if he/she takes you here haha. 🅿️Parking: always a struggle, but there is a lot behind the restaurant at the hotel for $$, or you can take a chance with Cannon Street parking. $$ expect to spend minimum of 100$ if you are getting entrees.

Asian restaurant
Xiao Bao Biscuit is a trendy restaurant located in a converted gas station, offering creative and multicultural Asian cuisine along with specialty cocktails. The lunch menu features a small selection of unique dishes that have become classics, such as okonomiyaki, pad kra pow, and som tum with chicken. Described as Asian soul food from various countries on the continent, the restaurant's creativity is evident in its setting, inventive cocktails, and rotating specials.
This place is my go-to spot for first lunch. Super laid back and informal with incredible food and super friendly staff. It’s a small menu and everything is worth eating. Obviously the okonomiyaki is what it’s all about and ADD ALL THE TOPPINGS! Get the papaya salad and be ready for some lingering heat. Eat outside if you can and enjoy the neighborhood, go for a walk (or a lay) in Hampton Park when you’re done.

My husband and I were visiting Charleston and were able to have a quick lunch here. We absolutely loved it! My husband has been to Japan so we always look for more authentic Asian restaurants. This one gave us flavors we haven’t had in the US. There wasn’t a lot of people there when we went so not sure if it’s an underrated gem or just a gem! Highly recommend.

Been excited to try this place for some time now and so happy we did. The menu is small and it showed the GF options which were helpful since my hubby has Celiac. It was also specific on the bottom that they don’t modify dishes which I can appreciate. We sat outdoor although they had a nice and spacious indoor seating and bar seats. Our server wasn’t the most personable and friendly, but she gave us a breakdown of their dishes. I asked her for a coke with my food and never got it so I didn’t even mention it because we didn’t see her after our entrees dropped. Now to the food! Pork+kimchi dumplings 4/5 - dumplings and texture were great, the sauce was good but TOO much ginger and that’s all you could really taste with a touch of soy. If they toned it down I would’ve thought it was more pleasant. Pad Kra 5/5 - it was so flavorful and all the textures were amazing, especially with the fried egg on top. Delicious! Som Tum Salad 5/5 - another delicious dish. The flavors were on point, tangy, spicy, sweet and crunchy. You could taste the fish sauce which I love! We ordered a side of rice and it went well with hot dishes. We are looking forward to trying more dishes and some cocktails next time!

This is our second visit here, and we will go back again! They have a really good old fashion. I know it is not a place you would think to get a traditional Old Fashion but they are great at making them. We have now tried them twice. The noodles is our favorite dish we have found. They have a new menu, but I'm so glad they kept the noodles- I highly recommend it! They do have a new menu, and I already wish they kept the Brussel sprouts because they were fantastic! We tried the Pad Kra Pow- and I am glad we were recommended to add the white rice with it. The pad kra pow was a little spicy and peppery. It was ok, but it needs a sauce or liquid with it. The atmosphere is great! Love the outdoor seating!

Tonight is my last night in Charleston, and I had dinner at @xiaobaobiscuit! It is in an old gas station and has a pretty cool feel. Drink: Sichuan Sting Sichuan peppercorn infused gin, lemon ginger beer, orange bitters. App: Bao Chinatown bbq, Marvin's mustard, and salt pickles. Entree: Stirfry Pad Kra Thai beef and basil stir fry with chili garlic and local veg - comes with fried sunny up egg. I also got rice with it. This place is followed on Insta by quite a few chefs and others. It was also recommended to me by someone I work with. I am so glad I decided to go! The whole meal was an experience. The drink had a Sichuan peppercorn infusion. They make your mouth and lips feel tingly. It was an interesting and good experience. The drink itself was great! It took a few minutes for the sensation to go away. It was worth it! The bao buns were full of flavor, umami, and had a great texture. The buns were nice and fluffy. I wouldn't change a thing about them! I want more, actually. 😂 The stirfry was so damn good. It had some heat, and the beef itself made me so happy. I ate it slower than normal so I could really enjoy it. The sunnyside up egg on top was the perfect finishing touch. The rice on the side is a must! If I am ever back in the area, I will be stopping by here again, no question.

This is not Asian food at all, so be aware that they only use Asian names for their food. We ordered 1 shrimp fried rice for $23 and 1 Okonomiyaki, which they claimed Japanese cabbage pancake for $15. First, the shrimp fried rice is way too overpriced for such a small portion and only 5 shrimps (I might counted wrong but there was only a few), not to mention rice is soggy, and it tastes annoyingly sour. The Okonomiyaki is even more unappetizing. THIS IS NOT JAPANESE AUTHENTIC OKONOMIYAKI, instead, it’s just oily stir fried cabbage (the cabbage was unevenly cut) with a very thin layer of flour, some dried seaweed and some sriracha and mayo. The taste is so dissonant that you don’t know what food you are eating or what flavor you are supposed to expect. As an Asian myself, I know my people’s food, I’ve had Okonomiyaki in Japan and fried rice in many different places but I never felt so offended when I tried the food here. My friends and I couldn’t even continue eating after 5 minutes and we had to leave and take the food away. When I told the manager about our experience, and that it’s not Okonomiyaki, he told me I couldn’t say that because it’s just like saying the American pizza is not pizza. I can’t believe that he literally took my words for granted and argued with such a nonsense fallacy. If I could have controlled my emotions better I would give him a lesson about cultural appropriation. At least you should indicate in the menu that these fusion food are inspired by Japanese or whatever culture and are made with your OWN STYLE. My Japanese friends are also disappointed when I showed them the food. I don’t know where he went to in Japan to learn to make this, but this can’t be the Okonomiyaki we are able to eat. Overall, I feel so disappointed and disrespected. The staff were nice and the atmosphere was cozy though. I would NEVER RECOMMEND going here if you’re craving for REAL ASIAN food. If you enjoyed the food here, I still totally understand, as our expectations are different, and I respect that. Please just keep in mind that some of the food you eat here, especially the Okonomiyaki, IS NOT ASIAN FOOD. I don’t care whatever “version” the manager is talking about, IT-IS-JUST-NOT.

They had a pretty good Japanese chicken curry the day I went. I hope they add it to the menu, I would definitely make this a weekly regular if so. I also had their Borneo Sunrise 10/10!!

Just a heads up here, they don't offer condiments which I guess includes asking for additional sriracha when enough wasn't applied to the dish. Your guess is as good as mine. Oh, I was the only person in the restaurant for an early lunch. Messaging could have been delivered better on the whole condiments stance... If you like it spicy, this might not be your joint.

Poogan's Porch is a renowned restaurant in Charleston, housed in a beautifully restored Victorian townhouse. It offers traditional Southern cuisine and an elegant dining experience. The menu features authentic lowcountry dishes for brunch, lunch, and dinner, including She-Crab Soup, Pimento Cheese Fritters, Shellfish and Grits, Wild Caught Roasted Catfish, and Sweet Tea Glazed Salmon.
We had an incredible dining experience at Poogan’s Porch in Charleston, deserving of a full five stars! This charming restaurant exudes Southern hospitality, and even though we didn’t make a reservation, the wait was absolutely worth it (though I’d recommend booking ahead for convenience). The low country corned beef hash was absolutely yummy, bursting with flavor, and my wife couldn’t stop raving about the chicken sandwich—she loved it! The pimento cheese fritters were a unique and delicious surprise, perfectly showcasing the creative Southern cuisine. We were seated upstairs in a quaint, cozy room that added to the warm ambiance. The service was outstanding, with attentive and friendly staff making the meal even more enjoyable. Poogan’s Porch is a must-visit for anyone in Charleston—can’t wait to come back!

I went here with my boyfriend for an early dinner. The biscuits were nice, hot, and fresh. We had fried green tomatoes, she-crab soup, and crab cakes for an appetizer. Our entrees were the sweet-tea lacquered salmon and catch of the day, which was red snapper over rice and gumbo. I found the food to just be okay and bland at times, not what I was looking for so I don’t see myself coming back.

This is my Absolutely favorite restaurant in Charleston! The fried chicken with the hothoney was mind blowing. Everything is out of this world! Best hushpuppies I've ever had. Pimento cheese fritters with bacon jam is unreal! Still thinking about the lavender martini.

Beautiful restaurant with a great brunch menu as well as spooky history. We had a few starters to share and then several brunch items. All were delicious and southern. Fried green tomatoes, great, simple preparation done well is always a hit. Pimento cheese fritters were rich and yummy but very heavy, sharing is a good option for this item. Grits were cooked and seasoned well which for me is a real plus because so often I think they are under seasoned. Biscuits as good as they get, light and flaky. I think these were delicious. Unfortunately we were with a really large group so I didn’t get many photos. Are there other restaurants that serve food just as good, Im sure there are, but for me I enjoyed the entire experience of this restaurant. Note, bloody Mary’s are very spicy, if you like spice, which I do I would, definitely order. Also mimosa carafe is a nice option and the mimosas were very light in color, meaning the ratio of juice to champagne was great. Will definitely return.

Seems like a popular lunch spot! We were lucky to be sat without reservations (fairly large place with in and outdoor spaces). We did lunch a round 1:00ish on a Thursday. We got the pimento cheese fritters and the award winning shrimp & grits (that was reportedly featured in USA Today)- and boy we’re both so good! The shrimp and grits were not fishy at all- the gravy was perfect. The pimento cheese fritters comes with a delicious bacon jam. They gave complimentary biscuits that we couldn’t eat because we were so stuffed. Other popular dishes (per our waitress) are the chicken and waffles, chicken sandwiches. Would recommend!

Came here with my mom and sister for brunch. We were impressed! The restaurant is so cute, service attentive but not annoying, and food was delicious! We ordered the biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, and pimento cheese fritters. The portion sizes were generous and it was perfect to share!

Went for a Bachelorette brunch. Beautiful old home with a very cute decor and vibe. Server was very friendly and attentive and the food was amazing! Nothing bad on the menu. Also , Bloody Mary's are great!

We chose to sit in the porch (even made reservations for that scenic view), but porch is a little narrow. June in Charleston is hot! The a/c and inside atmosphere would be good. The food was not bad, but for what we paid - we would have expected better. The trout was good, but did not like the green goddess that was on top. Shrimp and grits - Tasso ham was good, but overall other local restaurants make better. Old Fashion was really good. Margarita leas lacking.

High Cotton Charleston Restaurant is a spacious and refined eatery that offers Lowcountry fare made with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant features separate dining areas, including a cozy bar with live bluegrass music, a formal East Bay Room, and a sunny main dining room. Their brunch menu is an indulgent ritual featuring southern flavors like crispy fried oysters and buttermilk fried chicken over Belgian waffles. With live jazz every night, the restaurant has a special ambiance and an extensive wine and cocktail list.
For a Wednesday night, this place was packed. Great service, food, and live music. Ordered a seafood tower for two, split a ribeye steak with mashed potatoes, and blueberry pie for dessert. Would recommend and will be back!

Can we go with 10 stars? My mom and I enjoyed this restaurant so much. Our server (and his team) were very kind and attentive. I am sorry that I do not remember his name, but he was a leftie. lefties. The food was amazing. The she-crab soup was delicious and the perfect start to our meal. I had the scallops, but they only gave two (2). Next time I will have to ask for an add on because I had a lot of grits compared to the portion of the scallops. My mother's oysters were perfect and she absolutely enjoyed the sweet potato hash.

Stopped by on a Sunday around lunch time excited to try the place out but did not realize it was a brunch only menu so the items I was hoping for and craving was not an option. We first sat in the bar area but the vibe was just not there and it was very dark so we moved to the dining area which was much better. But off the bunch menu everything was good from the Beef carpaccio to the crab cake Benedict. The server was very nice and next time we are in the area we will make sure to check the menu times as we heard great things about the place but the brunch was good.

What an amazing restaurant! We worked with Keith Neighbors to host our rehearsal dinner, and he and his staff were incredible! As we organized ahead of the event, he answered all my questions very quickly and efficiently. He made sure every detail was taken care of. His advice was very helpful and he catered to the fact that we had two guests with serious food allergies. The service staff the night of the dinner, especially Ben & Megan, were better than any staff at any place I have ever worked with. I don't know how they were everywhere, doing everything, but they met our every need. Our bartender was friendly and fast! The atmosphere was intimate and romantic... just perfect! The food was out of this world! Everyone commented on the high quality of their meal. High Cotton had a wonderful menu to choose from. Thanks to all who gave us an incredible night!

It was the first restaurant we ate at in Charleston, recommended by someone at the hotel where we were staying. Not a good start. We stopped taking recommendations from anyone shortly after that. I don’t understand what the hype is over this place. We found it lacking. Service was good but the food was meh. Fried green tomatoes were almost flavorless. I think I had the scallop special with lobster. I guess it was good enough. Cooked well at least. My sister ordered the shrimp and grits and said they were too salty. The calamari was excellent though! Perfectly cooked and delicious. Everyone talks about the lobster Mac and cheese which is what most people were ordering, so that’s what you should order if you go. FYI, we found out while dining that they filmed a scene from The Notebook movie so I believe that’s why people are so fond. Sentimental?

Incredible meal, incredible service, gorgeous atmosphere. Came to High Cotton for dinner mid week. The first thing that stands out is how incredible the service was. From the minute we walked in it was 5 star all around. The food was also wonderful, the summer fruit salad was delicious, fried green tomatoes with pimento was out of this world, the entrees from the Steak to the Bouillabaisse were just mind blowingly fantastic. Loaded with seafood and flavor something i just dont get often back home. We were treated to an incredible chocolate cake as well. I just cant think of a better meal and experience. Next time im in town I will 100% be back.

Outstanding start to finish. Mother/Daughter trip to Charleston and if you enjoy a true fine dining experience go to High Cotton. Our team servers were great- Two ladies and I wish I took their names. Our wine service was done perfectly. The filet was out of this world and cooked to specifications. Mushrooms were great as well. My daughter had the scallops and loved them. After dinner we enjoyed the soloist in the bar area as well as the beautiful bar and cocktails prepared by attentive bartenders. Top tier experience! 10/10!!

Restaurant
Bertha's Kitchen is a beloved no-frills counter-serve restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina, known for its unpretentious and homestyle Southern soul food. The James Beard Foundation honored this black-family-owned establishment with an America's Classic award in May 2017, recognizing its timeless appeal and quality food that reflects the character of the community.
The food is just so excellent done with a mixture of crispy, gelatinous and grainy. Not too salty or greasy. The service was excellent too. I wish I can eat this everyday!

This is a hidden gem in North Charleston. I got the crab balls with the seafood rice it came with cornbread. I wish the person behind the counter would have told me that the platter was the same price. But I guess it was fine that I didn’t get the platter because my mom and aunt said the vegetables were out of can. I liked how we given a mini cup of frozen koolaid because of the heat. That was nice. The crab balls, seafood rice and cornbread were good. The prices are good.

Bertha's Kitchen: A Must-Visit for Soul Food Lovers Atmosphere: The restaurant had a cozy and quaint atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. Food: We opted for the daily special, which included white rice, beans, and our choice of fried or baked chicken. We substituted the beans for collard greens and maccaroni and cheese. Every dish was very flavorful and very well portioned! Also, the daily specials were only $6.75 each before substitutions! Service: The staff was incredibly polite and attentive. They gave us several recommendations for our first time and made sure we had everything we needed. Memorable Experience: The line around the building 15 minutes before they opened was a testament to the popularity of this place. It was definitely worth the wait! Overall Impression: Bertha's Kitchen is a great place to experience authentic soul food in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The daily specials are a great value, and the food is consistently delicious. I highly recommend it!

Great experience at Bertha’s kitchen! From the minutes you walk in you know you are in a family establishment. Loved the pictures throughout. You know you will feel the love in the food as well. Staff was helpful and pleasant. We were even given Kool aid icee while waiting. The chicken and Mac and cheese were my favorites. Cornbread was good too. We will be back. ❤️

So I tried this place and was excited. Dont go if you dont have time to wait. The line seems to always be long. I got the fried chicken red rice string beans and MAC. It came with cornbread. The red rice waa great! The chicken wasn't really seasoned well and the MAC seemed to be really soft almost like mush. The cornbread was really dry also. The string beans were good though! While I was disappointed im willing to trt it again and get something different. Also the parking is stressful and almost made me leave. Its pretty ridiculous. The people are nice but for the price i expected at least the fried chicken to be good. Ill try again though but not anytime soon.

It really depends on who's the foodie, some will call the cuisine soul food, others will say it's southern comfort, but I'll just say that it's great food. I've been going to this dive since the 80s and I still can't get enough of the tasteful dishes that are served there. The lima beans and rice are very good with a side of cornbread. All of the sides can be mouth watering as well particularly the sweet potatoes that's almost as good as my wife sweet potatoes. This restaurant is very much in shadows of the great culinary scene around Charleston, but it has been nationally recognized. Mrs Bertha is no longer with us but her legacy lives on with her daughter's and granddaughters still holding it down. There's inside dining but mostly take out is conducted. I must remind you that the lines will be long, especially during lunch hours because it happens to be in the middle of a business hub. Parking is free but very limited as well.
Xavaier W — Google review
I was visiting from Charlotte. I read the reviews and was really excited about trying the food. Not a good choice at all. I got the special. Which was white rice and Lima beans mixed together (I thought they would be separate). The rice was not fully cooked and the Lima beans were like gravy. This was a different texture and food experience and I personally would not order again. I ordered an extra side, which was the macaroni and cheese. Very disappointing and a waste of additional money. The macaroni was overcooked and too soft. I gave them two stars for their chicken that was my choice from the special between fried or baked. I normally only like white meat but they said they were not dropping any more fried chicken so I had to get dark meat. It was a drumstick and thigh. The chicken was hot and crispy. It was also very juicy and seasoned to the bone. The best item out of the four choices. Not sure if I would personally go back in the future.

Raw Lab, located on 193 King St. in Charleston, offers a unique dining experience that is more like attending a show than traditional fine dining. The restaurant serves oysters and provides gluten-free options for those looking to eat like a local. With seating for 12 people, diners can expect an interactive experience and the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone while enjoying the passionate and knowledgeable presentation by Kevin.
Incredible food and wine pairings but what made it amazing was Kevin and the charisma and talent he has. Be prepared to have a lot of fun and get out of reality for a bit!!! Once in a lifetime experience.

This is an educating, enjoyable and tasty multi-course experience you have to try when in Charleston. This is not your typical dining experience, it's a new kind of dinner theater. I believe the menu changes regularly - our experience was centered around oysters, caviar, raw seafood combined with salts from around the world and lots of wine. We learned that we've been eating oysters and caviar wrong for years, and were introduced to a variety of salts on raw dishes that was amazing. I try to stay away from salt, but learned I just need the right kind on my food. I'd highly recommend the experience for couples and small groups - there is limited seating so reservations are a must. Also, make sure your paying attention. It's interactive, but you don't want to be that person interrupting/ talking over the chef.. a little self-awareness and the right attitude make Rawl Lab an awesome night!

This was the best night of my life. We are such foodies and to have THIS kind of experience was literally killer. We had the most enjoyable and entertaining 5 hours, being enveloped in music, delicacies, so many wine pairings, and the electric atmosphere. If you’re reading this, go! You will not be disappointed. We learned so much and we’re encouraged to be able to add a lot of these techniques and thoughts into our own repertoire at home. Kevin and Sandy - BRAVO! I’d give this 100 stars (or oysters) if I could. Bangin’ good time.

We did the Oyster and Caviar Masterclass and had an absolute blast! I’ve had my fair share of oysters and caviar, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually appreciated the intricacies of flavor until this class. Kevin was very knowledgeable and presented so many great flavor pairings for the evening, along with wine pairings. If we didn’t live 1200 miles away, I would be back every week for the Raw Lab experience! Thank you for a great evening and we wish you the best!

Our Chef Kevin was so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable taking the time to explain everything . He is a chef, a comedian and an artist all in one! The food was not only delicious, but perfectly presented and the menu is creatively put together. His original atmosphere can't be faulted, our experience was beyond excellent. Your dishes all comes to the bar in unison and each dish is explained. If you are visiting Chs or a local and want a memorable dining experience then The Raw Lab is sure to deliver! Well with the price! Thank you Kevin for a memorable experience. We will be back!

Hands down the BEST dining experience I have ever had and well worth the money! Between the oceanic decor, the nearly infinite amount of wine, the quaint & intimate space created by Kevin and his team, and I would say this is one of the best “marine cuisine” meals I have had in my life. Not to mention the endless positive dining environment Kevin makes to make it truly a unique experience every time a group of 12 walks through his doors. Take a look at the photos I posted. Though I have no idea if those dishes plan to be on the menu every time you come in, I can guarantee you that whatever you will be eating will be absolutely fantastic and done with a lot of attention and appreciation to the craft of cooking. When can we come back for round 2 Kevin!?!?!

Magnolias, a Charleston classic since 1990, offers a refined twist on traditional Southern cuisine in an elegant setting. The restaurant is beloved by locals for its top-notch lowcountry dishes and attentive service. Seafood takes the spotlight on the menu with authentic options like Lowcountry Bouillabaisse and Spicy Shrimp over grits. Whether it's lunch, Sunday brunch, or dinner, Magnolias delivers southern soul food with a fine-dining experience and tasteful presentation.
Tonight's dinner was @magnoliaschs in the French Quarter of Charleston! I decided to go out and splurge a little. 😂 It is a Lowcountry upscale kitchen. Drink: Grand Fashioned Elijah Craig bourbon, Grand Marnier, orange peel, Angostura bitters, Luxurious cherry App: Down South Egg Roll collard greens, chicken, tasso ham, red pepper purée, spicy mustard, peach chutney Entree: Bourbon BBQ Glazed Pork Chop mac & cheese, collard greens, jalapeño cornbread, honey butter This place was pretty amazing! The drink was exactly what I was looking for. Good flavor and straight to the point. The egg roll tasted so good. You could taste all the individual components in it. The sauces were really complimentary to it. It's really crispy! The pork chop was hands down the best I have ever had. Seasoned perfectly, juicy, and cooked to the perfect medium well. The sauce was nice and sticky. The collards had the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. The mac and cheese was nice and creamy. The cornbread was nice as well. I have no complaints whatsoever. When the waitress came over to ask me how I thought the egg roll was, I dropped it by accident and made a mess. 😂 The atmosphere was amazing. It had a country, old time, and upscale feel. White tablecloths. I REALLY wish I liked seafood.

Southern restaurant with delicious food. The fried green tomato appetizer had a super crisp outside, the tomato itself still had a bite to it and the chutney relish was tangy and delicious. Deviled eggs also very good, hard to go wrong with a deviled egg but this one was very good. The bread service is homemade bread and was warm and crispy, yumm. For mains we had the special fried catfish another hit. Batter was crunchy and the fish was tender and perfectly cooked. , red rice was great and green beans were crisp and brought some freshness to an otherwise heavy dish. The bacon was unnecessary for me as I liked the freshness of the beans and didn’t need that addition. The other main we tried was the blackened catfish. A very different preparation than the special, lightly battered and a little thicker cut. Fish was perfectly cooked and went well with the accompaniments. Every bite we had was great. There were so many other items on the menu we wanted to try we will definitely be back. They have two seating areas, the main area in the front with the bar and a second dining room in the back. Unfortunately we were seated in the back dining room which is banquet hallish. If you can, try to sit in the front room, it has charm and windows and is much more inviting.

Went here on my Birthday weekend and it was great! Prompt service, fresh seafood, and a pleasing ambiance! I had the Blue Crab Bisque and the Lowcountry Bouillabaisse. Both were exceptional and the Firefly Arnold Palmer was delicious. It is a little pricey but I would definitely recommend this to anyone going here that wants a romantic or upscale dining experience. I did make reservations so I'm not sure what walk-in availability is like.

My wife and I drove to Charleston to see family and Magnolias was on our list of restaurants to try. I'm glad we did, the food alone was worth the trip. My wife had the buttermilk fried chicken and i had the bourbon BBQ pork chop. The service great and I have ZERO complaints about our experience.

While visiting this week we decided we needed a little southern cooking in our lives. We didn’t have a reservation when we popped in. While there were plenty of tables open (they could’ve been waiting on reservations) we were only offered seating at the bar. Many of the tables remained open while we were there. Reese, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Service was slow. The fried green tomatoes were amazing! So crispy and flavorful. My friend raved about the fried chicken sandwich. While leaving, the hostess offered someone walking in off the street (without a reservation) a table or the bar. I found that curious.
Gina H — Google review
The Fried Green Tomatoes app is practically an entree in itself... white cheddar & caramelized onion grits, country ham, tomato chutney, tomato butter MY OH MY these are the best FGT that I have ever had! You must try them, so much flavor! For my main course the Parmesan Crusted Market Catch was flounder with creek shrimp & jasmine rice pirloo, warm asparagus, sweet corn & tomato salad, citrus beurre blanc and boy was it spectacular! The Spicy Shrimp & Sausage with tasso gravy, creamy white grits was just as amazing.

The food was fantastic. I started with the crab bisque which was excellent and my wife had the watermelon salad (a special) which she said was the best salad she has ever had in her life. I ordered the shrimp and grits which actually had too much black pepper for MY taste but my wife tasted it and loved it. My wife ordered the seafood bouillabaisse which was very very good packed with flavor and tons of different fish and other seafood. We finished with the Red Velvet bread pudding which was topped with a raspberry cheesecake ice cream....this dessert was OUT OF THIS WORLD good. Other than the food, the atmosphere was very nice, and our waitress was wonderful. I will definitely look to come back.

Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar is a sleek spot offering classic and contemporary Southern seafood fare in Charleston. Housed in a 1940s retired naval building, the restaurant celebrates the area's waterfront heritage with stunning views of Charleston Harbor. The menu features crowd-pleasers like shrimp and lobster-stuffed hushpuppies, and the restaurant is committed to sustainable seafood practices.
Went with hubby on a Monday for lunch. We had a reservation, but had to wait a wee bit for the table to be ready. We were seated outside and it was a glorious day for it. Tripp, our server, was awesome. He was attentive and prompt with answering questions, refilling water glasses and checking on us. For our starters we had the fried steak calamari and the snow crab claws and, omigosh, they were scrumptious!!!! For entrée, my hubby had the salmon with Carolina red rice and coleslaw while I had the catch of the day, Mahi with Carolina red rice and collard greens. I did not even leave a grain of rice on my plate; the dish blew my taste buds away. I also had a painkiller cocktail with lunch. I'm so glad we went to Fleet Landing. Can't wait to go back next time I visit South Carolina 🤗

Why in charleston wanted to try indifferent seafood restaurant..so we landed on fleet landing. There was construction going on. So had to park and walk. And it was an eye sore. We get there. We were greeted right away. They have in door and out door seating. If the temperature permits...I suggest outdoor. Or at least near the windows. They have nice views. Right on the water. The service was nice. No complaints.. food was brought out pretty quick. And tasted good. Prices were roughly 20 to 30 pp...on average. For a entree... but overall. It was decent it was good. No real complaints. I definitely reccomend this spot of you a seafood lover.

She crab soup was delicious and a large portion for the price. Crab leg cocktail was good but it tasted like it was frozen, not fresh. Key lime pie was quite good. Service was good, not great, but they were also very busy. Still done with a smile and quite friendly.

My dad and I went here today for lunch and sat outside. Our server Andrew was great. He was on top of things and very polite and helpful, while also bringing his own personality to the service. He helped us pick out which varieties of raw oysters to get, all of which were great, and was very patient with my multitude of questions. I got the crab claw cocktail and my dad got the fried oyster platter, we both enjoyed our entrees immensely (the crab claw cocktail is not meant to be an entree but was just enough for me with the stuffed hushpuppies and oysters). I will say right now there’s construction happening next to the restaurant so be prepared for some of that noise if you choose to sit outside, but it didn’t take away from our experience at all.

The Glass Onion is a lively restaurant that offers elevated, locally sourced Southern cuisine in a delightful setting. For over sixteen years, this establishment has been serving delectable poboys featuring flash-fried local shrimp on a soft yet crispy roll. In addition to the sandwiches, the menu includes seasonal vegetable sides and entrees such as pan-roasted Carolina trout and succulent pork chops.
Really excellent quality southern food. Lots of food so we rolled out without dessert, but all those options looked good as well. It was all pretty traditional and so good. We really loved the pickles and the frying green tomatoes with pimento cheese.

What a find! Visiting Charleston and had read good things about The Glass Onion. It did not disappoint! Our server ( Haley?) was just the cutest! So bubbly, knowledgeable and attentive. We were a party of 6. We had shrimp po boy, chicken sandwich, pork chops, gumbo and shrimp and grits. Everything was fresh and excellent. My son said it was the best chicken sandwich he’s ever had and he’s had a lot! The macaroni salad is amazing! We even bought a couple of cookbooks. Can’t wait to try some recipes. Don’t pass this place by!

We loved The Glass Onion, it was the best meal we had when we were in Charleston. My husband had the shrimp and grits with a side of collards and I had the sautéed trout with rice and butter beans, everything was delicious. In addition the atmosphere was very welcoming and the servers were terrific. We had to have dessert as we heard that the pastry chef was excellent. We had the banana pudding and the bread pudding and we loved every bite. We will be sure to go back there if we ever visit the area again.

I had fried shrimp with a house made remoulade, side of perfectly seasoned collards, and cornbread. My husband had catfish that was so tender it fell apart! The tartar sauce was also made in house, and delicious! Their menu changes daily…WOW! The staff was attentive and friendly, service was excellent. Will be back in the next time we’re in Charleston!

O ... M .... G! This place was DELICIOUS! We tried it because it was on DDD and it did not disappoint. My friend had shrimp and grits and said it was some of the best he has had. I made my own Fish and Grits by ordering the catfish, grits and greens for my sides. The catfish was AMAZING and was well seasoned. The grits were the best I've tasted. The server even made a 'rum runner' drink for me (not on the menu) and that was spot on. I highly recommend making sure you stop at the G.O.

Good restaurant. The food is very good, although the portions are small. The pork belly and collard greens were very good. The cornbread was good, but served without butter. I had to request it. My kids ordered chicken strips and we had to request ketchup after the food was delivered as they were not delivered with any sauces. The service was friendly, but did not really anticipate needs/wants. It’s not somewhere I’m dying to go back to, but not a bad option if you want some slightly above average low country cuisine. 4 stars because the pork belly was fantastic despite the small portion.

AMAZING southern comfort food. Stopped on the way to the airport, and it was delicious. Fried green tomato a must! We both had the buttermilk chicken sandwich, it was all great quality and good tasting! Service was friendly and top notch!

Fantastic meal. We tried a variety of menu items and everything was incredible. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and Brussels sprouts (best I have ever had!). Prices were very reasonable as a bonus!

Restaurant
Hannibal's Kitchen is a long-standing family-owned restaurant that has been serving traditional Gullah-Geechee cuisine since 1985. Located on Charleston's East Side, this casual eatery offers a taste of Southern seafood specialties and soulful dishes like crab rice, shark steak, pork chops, turkey wings, and whiting. The restaurant recently underwent renovations to add an outdoor dining patio while maintaining its authentic charm.
The food was fantastic, the restaurant and bathroom were clean and the customer service was excellent. Our server was 2nd generation, the cashier 3rd generation and the cook 4th generation. This really is a family owned and operated restaurant. The food was most delicious, no exaggeration...fresh chicken and hot sides. We had to wait a bit but everything was worth the wait. My vegetarian aunt had the kids meal and ordered a 2nd side of macaroni and cheese. Loved everything, will return when I'm in town again.

This place has came a long way from the hole in the wall we discovered 22 years ago while attending Johnson & Wales University. At that point you could only order Togo at the counter. We would get breakfast before class. The location now has table seating and a great vibe. The food is amazing as it always has. Table service needs improvements as it seems like they do not have a set system on which wait staff takes what tables. At moments everyone was checking on us and then once the food was served it was like all contact was lost.

In town and wanted to support this Black Owned business. Reviews were good and so I decided to give it a try with HIGH hopes. Walked in it was slow and the lady at the bar didn't say anything. After a few minutes I walked up and asked is it seat yourself or wait to be seated. She mumbled something and grabs the silverware and took me to a seat. I sat for almost 10 minutes before I I call-out the waitress to ask for a menu and water. Took another 5 minutes but she brought the menu and water. Took another 5 minutes or more I waved her down again saying I would like to order. Order my appetizer (chicken gizzards)and that was good. Then again I had to wave the waitress again to order my food (salmon and sausage rice). After the food came I was disappointed. No flavor and it looked like they just threw the food on the plate. The waitress never came back to check in things. I also had to wave her down again to ask her my bill. I had so much high hopes for this restaurant but was very disappointed in the food and service. The restaurant wasn't even busy so I didn't understand the slowness.

The best Salmon, Liver and Onions, Crab and Shrimp we've had in a long time. The atmosphere is Ole skool soul, neighborhoods staple on a corner. Parking is limited, but the walk will be worth it. Everything was delicious. The lemon cake is soft, moist, buttery melt in your mouth. Great service and cool vibe. The liver was tender, not chewy. I must say I don't know where they get their beef sausage from, it is one of the best. Not store bought cheap brand. It was well seasoned, and added much flavor to the salmon and rice. Do visit and meet the original family members. Enjoy!

I was visiting my family and decided to stop in Hannibals. For years ive been saying that I would, this weekend I did. The atmosphere was nice, nothing fancy, but nice southern charm that I felt represented downtown Charleston well. The waitress "Gabe" was great. I loved her energy and interactions with all the patrons. She was the only one attending to the patrons so it did take a while for her to make her rounds to everyone. The food was overall decent. The red-rice was okay. I was expecting a little more flavor with this being a very significant dish that represents Charleston cuisine. The lima beans were so so. I also had the liver with onions and gravy. They were spot on! I haven't had this in more than a decade and enjoyed every bite. The cornbread was on point too. I would definitely return here on one of my future visits to my hometown!

I recently visited Charleston, SC and kept seeing this spot recommended on TikTok, so I decided to give it a try. The food was decent overall—aside from my Lima beans being served cold, the rest of my dishes were pretty good. What really disappointed me, though, was the service. We weren’t properly greeted when we arrived, and our server wasn’t very attentive. To top it off, when it was time to check out, she was outside shopping for clothes instead of assisting us. That felt very unprofessional, and unfortunately, it left me with no desire to return.

This is exactly what we were looking for! Visiting from Alabama. From the first sip of the sweet tea, I knew we were amongst our people lol. Enjoyed everything about the entire experience. Our waitress Gabe was attentive and quick. The only issue we had was finding parking (which is available for free 2 blocks down) but once we figured that out we were good!

The hostess/ server was excellent. We were greeted with a friendly smile and a welcome and made to feel right at home. Great soul food choices. Everything looked and sounded so good that I watched every plate as they came out within my view. The couple across from me had whiting and crab rice that looked so good, I took a picture of it. My husband got this unique, specialty lima bean dish served with smoked neckline and pigtails served over white rice. I got a smothered turkey wing with gravy and onions and cabbage and sweet yams as my sides. Everything was delicious!

The Daily Cafe - King St is a trendy coffeehouse that offers Stumptown brews, cold-pressed juice, beer, and breakfast sandwiches. The cafe's Summer-ish salad is a refreshing take on traditional salads, featuring fresh ingredients like lettuce from Vertical Roots and Cherokee heirloom tomatoes. Additionally, the cafe boasts three murals created by Shepard Fairey and has become known for its Middle Eastern-inspired vegetarian options.
The best coffee and breakfast place!! The 3 egg burritos is just amazing. The lemon coffee and upside down coffee are must try. We had a 30 min wait and tables are fast occupied. Really great outdoor seating! Their almond milk is house made so a definite try.

We had a second brunch at The Daily. The ordering line was kinda long but we were able to save some seats. The place was pretty radiant with indoor and outdoor seating but this particular day was cold so most people opted to sit inside. We ordered : 1. Whipped feta toast made with fresh baked sourdough top with whipped feta, drizzled with local honey, chives, and cracked black pepper 2. Breakfast sandwich that was so good with bacon, egg, smoked onion jam and pimento cheese and it tasted so good. 3. Spring-ish veggies hash was perfect meal for me with romesco sauce, roasted carrots, mushroom, and bok choy, kale, and over easy egg....so so good. The food came in fair amount of time and someone made sure we had our cups of water filled and our empty plates cleared up. I really like this place and will be back to try out their coffees.

The daily has always been one of my favorites in Charleston! I went both Saturday & Sunday this weekend and got the 3 egg burrito on gluten free corn tortillas, the avocado toast on gluten free sourdough with egg and bacon, and a pumpkin Americano. Insane. The pumpkin is the best I’ve ever had- it tastes just like fall and it is sweet without being overpowering or too sweet. We were able to grab a table outside and our food came out extremely fast. Such a great spot for a casual bite to eat or coffee after a good workout or a long run downtown! Will be back again and again and again.

From Mark the general manager and Mark the head chef to all the staff have done an amazing job with going above and beyond with the customer service they provide! The Food is amazing every time I eat here. Consistent through and through! I highly recommend coming and dining here! You won't be disappointed at all. Breakfast sandwich, BLT, chocolate chip cookie, and the avocado toast are a few of my favorite things and a must try!

We came here on a Saturday for brunch and had a little bit of a WAIT. It's a counter service restaurant and seating is kind of scarce and FCFS. If you hang out long enough, you'll get a seat. Food: We ordered the stacked avocado toast and the yogurt bowl. Both were tasty and fresh. If you're REALLY hungry, the yogurt bowl may need some accompaniment. The avocado toast had a lot going on, but it actually worked well. The yogurt wasn't overly sweet and for most it's satisfying. Service: The interaction was just with the counter service person. They were friendly and quick. Ambiance: It's a cozy space that can feel constrained but it's not a huge deal. The colors and the decoration are all pretty cool. Overall we enjoyed it here. We prefer table reservation but that's not always feasible or realistic. If you come here on a weekend, expect a little wait, but the food and the service were great. I can see us coming back again.

We are visiting from Wisconsin on our honeymoon and decided to stop into The Daily because the atmosphere looked really cool and inviting. We walked a ton on our trip and finally decided to stop in for a coffee. The space itself is modern, clean, and has a great vibe that definitely draws people in. However, we were honestly shocked that two lattes came out to nineteen dollars. That just feels way too high, especially with so many other great coffee spots in the area offering similar quality drinks at more reasonable prices. We understand that everything costs more these days, but this was a bit much for what we received. The drinks were not hot enough and lacked the rosemary flavor. The competition around this place is strong and, in our opinion, more affordable without losing any of the experience or quality. This is just our honest and true feedback from two coffee lovers traveling through Charleston.
Ethan H — Google review
Honestly kinda disappointed in the coffee. I got the new Apple pie latte but it’s just milky with no flavor. I don’t even think they put the shot of espresso in and my coffee was barely warm. My husband got the golden milk and it’s hot and flavorful. We went during a slow time too so I’m not sure where the hiccup happened. Not worth $20 for two cups of coffee.

Vern's is a popular spot with an energetic vibe and great food and service. The menu is constantly changing, so it's best to seek guidance when ordering. The escargot and sourdough flatbread are standout dishes, as well as the pork loin harissa and mafaldine with nduja and egg yolk. The intimate ambiance is complemented by top-notch service, making for an incredible dining experience.
This was one of the finest meals we've ever had. Absolutely incredible food. The flavors were exceptional- each dish was complex but approachable. Everything, from the decor to the food to the service, had an understated elegance to it. The charred sourdough is a must have. The salad was insanely good. The entrees perfection. For the quality of food and the service, the price is completely reasonable. Charleston has amazing restaurants, and this is certainly one of the very best.

The best dining experience we had in Charleston! The service was warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor — you can tell the ingredients and care were top-notch. Also, the timing of every dish was perfect, we never had to wait for the next course. The atmosphere was inviting and elevated, making the whole evening unforgettable. I wouldn’t call it “baby/kids friendly restaurant”, no high chairs and no kids were seen, however, we brought our one year old and the staff was so accommodating! We got a great booth for all of us to be comfortable. And our baby tried every dish we had and absolutely loved it! We can’t wait to come back!

Best restaurant in Charleston. Kaila was our server, and it was a joy to have her around. The atmosphere there is perfect for date night or small intimate parties. We ordered to start the Crispy & Raw Sea Scallops & Yellowfin Tuna, with the second course being Testaroli w/ their cocktail the Visions Quest (highly recommend), our third course being their Lamb Special from Black Hawk Farms, Roast Chicken, Squash, and the Sourdough (reminded me of Naan), and finishing the last course with their Strawberry & Hazelnut dessert. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious, and blew my mind with every bite. Definitely coming back soon!!

I recently moved to Charleston about a month ago, and Vern’s was one of those places that kept coming up as a must-try. As someone who loves an intimate, cozy, and vibey restaurant that showcases local, seasonal dishes, I knew I had to stop by. I didn’t have a reservation, so I arrived 10–15 minutes before opening and snagged a bar seat (highly recommend). The front-of-house team ran everything smoothly, and I was warmly greeted by Patrick, the bartender for the evening, who was fantastic. He walked me through the menu, gave thoughtful recommendations, and highlighted the specials. The food was nothing short of incredible. The charred sourdough bread with allium butter was absolutely perfect — the balance of charred yet doughy bread with that butter was heavenly. The shrimp was tender, flavorful, and delicate, and I savored every bite. I also tried the new beet salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and the perfect companion to the grilled pork loin. The pork loin itself was truly one of the best dishes I’ve ever had — cooked beautifully, full of flavor, and unforgettable. Vern’s is one of those special places where everything — the service, atmosphere, and food — comes together seamlessly. Charleston has a lot of great dining options, but this is a standout that I’ll be recommending to everyone and more importantly will be back!

I mean what can be said that hasn't already been. As someone in the industry it's rare that I get to see the other side, but when it's somewhere as spectacular as this it makes you fall in love with cooking all over again. The attention to detail, the flavors, the service. Completely understand why it has the reputation it does. If you want a perfect restaurant experience that Charleston is known for, look no further. The best meal I've had in years and quite possibly ever. Great job.

Vern’s will always hold a very special place in our hearts. We’ve been here more than a dozen times over the years — for birthdays, my graduation dinner, and countless date nights — and every single visit has been exceptional. When family from out of town visit, Verns is our go to. The service is always so personal and genuine. We literally dream about the steak with horseradish and salsa verde (it’s perfect every time), and the rabbit pasta and sourdough are absolutely fantastic. Dessert is a must. On our most recent visit tonight, our server Patrick was incredible, so attentive, warm, and just the kind of person who makes an already special meal even better. We actually moved away from Charleston recently, but we made a weekend trip back just to eat here again, that’s how special this place is to us. It’s so meaningful, in fact, that we’re naming our new puppy Vern — a little nod to a restaurant that’s been part of so many of our favorite memories. If you’re in Charleston, do yourself a favor and go to Vern’s. It’s truly one of a kind.

Very nice anniversary dinner in this neighborhood restaurant. Escargot appetizer very good. Bread ok. The green salad was delicious and plenty to share. We chose the Farro to accompany the lamb special. Great choice. The truffled hollandaise sauce that was served with the lamb was different and well done. Excellent wine selection, we chose chateau LePuy, decanted it was a good mid priced choice. Flourless chocolate cake rounded out a memorable dinner

Another great meal at Vern's. Great service, drinks, and quality food. We enjoyed an escargot appetizer with homemade bread for starters. The daily fish entree was tasty (only 1 one option for fish and one vegetarian I believe) They have plentiful and great quality meat options as well.

82 Queen is a refined Southern restaurant that offers a special dining experience, making it a favorite for special occasions. The restaurant features an intimate courtyard with cast iron chairs and dining tables surrounded by greenery, providing a historical setting for enjoying savory Southern cuisine. Owned by Queen Street Hospitality, 82 Queen prides itself on serving classic Southern dishes such as she-crab soup and shrimp & grits, with a unique twist of barbecue mixed in.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner this evening at 82 Queen living up to its reputation of a classic Charleston 5 star restaurant. Our server Ashley was extremely friendly and informative. In fact service was perfect. The food itself was a great example of southern / Cajun cuisine. Oyster Rockefeller, jambalaya, spiced grouper all very well prepared and presented. Dessert of bread pudding ( clearly enough to share) was a fitting ending.

My husband and I did family style dinner, which I can recommend as there are plenty food items on the menu to try. We had the famous she crab soup, very nice rich creamy and tasty, the platter from the appetizer menu (not to exiting). Main was jambalaya and crab cake very good and chocolate cheese cake for desert. Downside no cappuccino or espresso. We were seated upstairs in the backroom next to a window with wall view. That was ok... but not too pretty

Had a great time here! We ordered the award winning she crab soup, the fried chicken liver, fried chicken and biscuit, and the crab cake Benedict. Have to say we didn't love the soup as much as we had expected. It was pretty thick and not enough crab. I did love the fried chicken liver though, it was perfectly fried and paired nicely with the grits. The crab cake Benedict was great and was a solid pick as well. Fried chicken had good flavor and loved the crispy bits throughout both entrees. Service was also amazing- we were taken care of very nicely by Philip who was attentive and kind! Overall solid brunch spot

Had dinner here while in Charleston recently - service was good, food was good. Tomato pie was better than I expected, we enjoyed it more than the shrimp and grits appetizer. Wife had the fried fish and grits and devoured it and talked about it for days afterwards. I tried the chicken bog out of childhood nostalgia reasons - crispy chicken skins were a nice touch, it was a bit light on the actual amount of chicken in my opinion so if you’re looking for a solid amount of protein I would choose a different dish. Would definitely return.

This She Crab soup is the best in town. That said, also get the tomato pie starter. Calamari is crisply coated and tender inside. Crab cakes are thick and luscious and both sauces enhance the experience. Fish and grits smothered with sweet corn and Vidalia onion is also recommended. Equal to the food is a charming atmosphere and exceptional service. We were accommodated beyond expectations. Shout out to Ross our almost-bartender because we were seated before he could start our drinks: thank you for your hospitality

82 Queen has been on my bucket list for a few years now. So here I was, finally, in South Carolina for my anniversary trip and I sure as heck was going to check this off the list. It was the most delicious way to end our trip 😋 First of all, Scotty, our server WAS LIFE!!!! We were seated outdoors on a beautiful night 🌙 As we got comfortable in our seats we discovered an anniversary card on our table (so sweet ❤️). We started out with bourbon cocktails, Muddled Creek, that were divine and smooth on the palate. For our starters we ordered a cup of she-crab soup, BBQ shrimp and grits and a crab cake. Scotty took our order but promptly came back and offered to "change our life" by suggesting we switch out the shrimp and grits for the tomato pie 🥧 And a life changing experience it most certainly was. The she-crab soup was creamy, but not heavy. The crab cake did not skimp on crabs, although I wish it were lump crab meat in it. And the tomato pie 🍅, oh my, was unbelievably delicious. It was creamy and cheesy, with bacon bits for contrasting texture and juicy tomatoes to round it all out. For entrée we shared the braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and green beans. The meat was fall apart, the au jus made for a great gravy and the green beans had a lovely snap to them. We ended the meal with a slice of limoncello cake, my absolute favourite, and received a complimentary slice, which we shared with the couple at the next table. The cake was velvety and sweet and just the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner and trip. But wait, there's more. Just when we thought we were finished eating and drinking, Scotty showed up with champagne 🍾, a big smile and a "happy anniversary to you" so drink up. I almost needed a wheel barrow to get me out of there. Can't wait to go back ❤️

Stopped in to have a bite at the bar. They have several areas to dine including an interior formal room, a pretty courtyard and a pleasant bar. The bartender “Mel” was great, professional and worked hard to accommodate the customer. I only ordered a couple of dishes, the tomato tart, some oysters and a salad. Unfortunately the oysters seemed over cooked or had been left to dry under a heat lamp while the other food was being prepared I am guessing. The tomato tart was good however and the salad was fresh and crisp, however the menu said the salad was priced at $15 and I noticed after I had been charged $21 ( not sure why although I asked for some extra dressing, but $6 - not sure). Anyway, a pleasant restaurant and worth a visit.

A lovely lunch in the bar area. Friendly service. The sauce on my BBQ shrimp and grits overpowered the grits a bit but still very good. Wife enjoyed her fish and grits. Excellent atmosphere.

Charleston Grill, located within the grand Charleston Place Hotel, offers an opulent dining experience featuring upscale Southern-French cuisine and wine pairings. The restaurant has become a destination in its own right, known for its live jazz performances that resonate acoustically within the wood-paneled walls. The menu perfectly complements the elegant decor and live music, offering dishes like Octopus Salad, Braised Pork Shank, and a personalized 6-course tasting menu by Chef Michelle Weaver.
We had a business dinner there for 12 people. Julia was fantastic to coordinate everything with ahead of time. We had a special set menu for the evening that covered the bases so everyone would have something they enjoyed. Everything from the bread service to the delectable main course and after dinner drinks was impeccable. Some of the best service I've received at a fine dining establishment. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

This was an outstanding experience! We enjoyed the 6 course tasting with the wine pairing and it was truly an educational experience. They gave an in depth history of the food and the wine with each course and answered any of our questions with grace. If you’re a foodie, this is a must. We celebrated our birthday and anniversary and really enjoyed the service as well- true service in a restaurant is a lost art but the staff here are genuinely happy to serve you and treat you like royalty. The atmosphere is romantic, comfortable and fun with the live jazz. This is such a treasure of Charleston.

I cannot recommend the Charleston Grill enough. My partner and I are vegetarian. Seeing that the menu already offered a few items that would work for us, I reached out by email a few weeks in advance asking if the kitchen could accommodate an extra off-menu main and appetizer. Just the next day, I was contacted by Lizzie, who was fantastic to work with; our preferences were noted enthusiastically. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess and Lizzie, who came out to welcome us, and shown to a beautiful table. Over the course of the next few hours, we were served by multiple people who all took the time to assure us our preferences had been prepared for and had the pleasure of having many delicious dishes both on and off-menu. The food was of course very good. And the kitchen team was kind enough to put together enough vegetarian items for us to be able to have a fully veg tasting menu each, if we wanted to opt for that. We went with two apps and mains to share among ourselves, and I was especially fond of an off-menu stuffed summer tomato served in the bakeware it was cooked in. Multiple dishes included a table side finish, which was fun to watch. The single best part of the evening was the service. We must have interacted with a half dozen people, and every single person was excited to have us there and created an atmosphere that made us want to keep ordering more and stay as long as we could. We were impressed by our waiters’ eagerness to join us in putting vegetables at the center of our meal for the night. The aforementioned stuffed tomato, for example, was brought to the table and introduced with the same flair as an aged ribeye, and we were checked on multiple times to see if we were enjoying the off-menu creations. Other highlights included a man with a warm bread basket giving us the slightest wink and side eye when we declined extra bread (we had to take more after that) and the many conversations with each person who came by our table. Overall, everyone was warm, knowledgeable, and damn good at their job. As a student, opportunities to go someplace this nice are infrequent; furthermore, fine dining can be a challenging experience as a vegetarian. But, when celebrating an occasion with your partner, one must deliver. Overall, I’m proud that the place I saved up, planned, and drove for was this one. These two young herbivores will be looking for reasons to go back to the Grill soon. Give this place your business.

Excellent dinner! Foie gras with strawberry sauce was outstanding. The crabcakes were very flavorful. The main entre of Venison was very good, with interesting sides, even though I would have enjoyed a few more pieces of vegetables. I had a small tasting of the fish entre and I liked the crisp on the fish preparation. The service was friendly and helpful, we felt very welcomed.

Excellent staff and service that comes together to present a wonderful dining experience. We celebrated my birthday Saturday night and this was one of the best dining experiences my wife and I ever had. With so many tempting food options, my wife and I decided to do the chef’s tasing menu with the bucket list wine pairings. This went well beyond just having a meal and truly was a culinary experience. Educational, fun, and decadent, we enjoyed course after course and had wines we normally would only dream of. I strongly recommend for anyone who wants to really broaden their dining experience. Thank you for an amazing evening!

We arrived about 11:55 a.m. on a Thursday-not even crowded. :) You can have your dog under the table or the baby in a stroller next to the table. Food servings are enough to share the 2 piece fried chicken with 2 sides. Love Love Love the Mac & Peas side as a meal!!! Thank you for a Wonderful lunch outside!

Finally got the chance to try this place, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. While we really enjoy Edmund’s Oast beer, the restaurant side didn’t make the same impression. The food was good, and the portions were generous, but something felt missing. My wife ordered the fried catfish with grits, which was the standout dish of the night. My son and I shared the whole chicken, with one half original and the other half Korean style. The original was underwhelming, but the Korean-style chicken was packed with flavor and heat. As for the sides—rice and beans, collard greens, and pasta salad—they were good but nothing particularly memorable. The service wasn’t bad, just a bit off and felt a little strange. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and I can see why reservations are necessary. Overall, I’d rate it a 4.5. It’s a solid spot, but we didn’t leave feeling like it was somewhere we’d come back to.

The prettiest key lime I ever did see! We came here for our double birthday dinner and we're blown away with the incredible customer service, chill vibes amazing food (order the green goddess salad with fried chicken you won't be disappointed!). They made our birthday feel so special in such a lovely venue. By far the best restaurant and brewpub in Charleston!

Easily the best food in Charleston especially for it's price point. Anything with this level of quality and service would easily be $100-200/person in New Jersey or New York. Service was amazing, hell, beyond expectation. I'm also quite frankly a bit shocked how small the bill was for two entrees, a side (which was LARGE), and a drink was. Shawn, our waiter, should be example as to how service should be for other restaurants in the area. Beyond just recommending items, he gave a few recommendations and helped narrow down the options through taste or dietary restrictions. He also recommended several desserts, but due to how delicious and filling the meal became, we sadly weren't hungry enough to fit one in. Sure, Charleston has plenty of amazing options, otherwise I wouldn't want to be a student here, but I think this is a must-have for all tourists and incoming freshman like myself. The atmosphere of the restaurant is just superb. I'd compare the quality of the food, the atmosphere, and most importantly the service to that of an episode of The Bear. It carries perfectly that southern charm mixed with fine dining and a pub. I'm just still baffled how amazing that prime rib was. Hope to be back in August! Thank you once again Shawn for the amazing service.

The smoked salmon toast is a must!! This photo doesn't do it justice. This has been my go-to order for a while but it is better than ever. The buttery toasted bread, amazing smoked salmon, and then the aioli and picked cucumbers are such a good addition. The flavors are not what you’d expect for a salmon toast but they all work so well! 10/10

Fried Chicken, Family Vibes and a Fantastic Start to Our Trip! We stopped at Edmund’s Oast for lunch right after landing in Charleston on July 4th, on our way to our VRBO on Folly Beach - and it couldn’t have been a better kickoff to our holiday week. The food was fantastic. We went with the family-style fried chicken, which came with collard greens, rice & beans and mac & cheese. Everything was delicious, it hit the spot for the whole family. We sat outside, the setup was spacious, relaxed, and welcoming - perfect for easing into vacation mode. The indoor space looked very cool as well, ideal if you’re looking to escape the summer heat. Restrooms were spotless (always a plus), the service was friendly and efficient. Great food, great vibe - Edmund’s Oast absolutely delivered.

Nice covered beer garden with lots of seating. Dog friendly and the food and drinks were great. The key lime pie was magical.

Dropped in for dinner at the taphouse of a brewery we already love, and ended up getting more than we expected. The menu leaned into Thai fusion, which was a surprise, but a really welcome one. We tried the salt chicken, mushrooms and rice noodles, and a papaya salad. Everything came out with bold flavors and bright, fresh ingredients. The salt chicken had a crisp, savory crust and juicy interior, while the mushrooms and noodles packed real heat. I can usually handle spice, but these had me sweating in the best way. The papaya salad added a refreshing crunch and a tangy contrast that helped cool things down. The beer, of course, was top-tier. Huge variety on tap, and even better when enjoyed right at the source.

Italian restaurant
Melfi's is a charming Italian restaurant with a rich history, located in a polished, old-school dining room that offers updated versions of classic Italian dishes. The menu features house-made linguine with pancetta or littleneck clams and Roman-style pizzas like the Mr. Wally. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and lively, making it an ideal spot for both date nights and group gatherings.
My biggest regret about eating at Melfi’s was that I didn’t come in sooner. My husband and I were blown away by the food. The atmosphere was vibrant and upscale…Perfect for a date night or special occasion. The spicy ceasar was hands down the best ceasar salad we’ve had. The arancini was delicious, dirty martini well balanced, but the pasta was the star of the show. We got the bolognese and bucatini and couldn’t pick a favorite. My husband was ready to come back the next day. Thank you, Melfi’s!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Melfi’s in Charleston, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The cocktails were superb, perfectly crafted and balanced, adding an extra touch of elegance to the evening. Beyond the food and drinks, the atmosphere was beautiful. The ambiance struck the perfect balance between classic and modern, creating a warm, welcoming setting that made the night feel special. Melfi’s is a true gem in Charleston — I’ll definitely be returning!

We make a visit to Melfi’s anytime we visit Charleston. The whole experience is excellent. The staff does a job great. The menu has lots of authentic Italian pasta, pizza, and entrees. You can’t miss no matter what you get. Don’t sleep on the spicy Caesar salad to start.

6 or 10 out of 5. What fabulous simple yet sublime food. Worth going to Charleston just to eat at Melfi's wine service was 5 star. Service was just so understated. So gentle. I am not going into the food because it was all so ridiculously good. So amazing.

Took my wife here for her birthday dinner; we had reservations at the bar. A note awaited our arrival in honor of her birthday along with a champagne toast. Nate and Bryce were fantastic. Nate is a true artisan with cocktails. Service was paced perfectly. We started with the Suppli, my wife had the Osso Bucco, which was decadent, and I had the Diavola pizza for our entrees. The espresso martini served as our desserts. The ambiance was delightful. Great experience and look forward to the next time—cheers and Bon Appétit!

One of the best meals and dining experiences in Charleston! Highly recommend starting with their signature spicy caesar salad (arguably the best item on their menu) and you can’t go wrong with any of the pastas! I’ve had the Mafalde pasta twice now and it’s delicious. Make sure you get a reservation ahead of time to guarantee a table. Definitely will be back again for a third time soon!

This was our first visit to Melfi’s and we went on our anniversary. The staff made it such a nice evening to celebrate and even offered a prosecco toast for each of us. The service was great, atmosphere was perfect, and the food was incredible delicious (especially the Bianco and the pasta). We can’t wait to come back!

I’ve lived in Charleston for about a year and can’t believe this was my first time here! We tried the Wood-fired sweet peppers, Straccitella & olive-oil bruschetta, Tuna Crudo, Prosciutto & Burrata, Bucatini ‘Cacio De Pepe’, Paccheri, Stretch Armstrong Pizza, and the Mr. Wally Pizza. Everything was incredible even down to our martinis. Would highly recommend putting this at the top of your Charleston list.

French restaurant
Maison is a stylish French bistro located in Charleston, offering innovative and artful French cuisine. The menu features familiar favorites with a creative twist, such as salmon rillette with lemon and roasted chicken with macaroni farci. Housed in an unassuming building on King Street, the interior boasts Parisian-style bistro chairs, a pewter-topped bar, and elegant black and white decor.
Wow, what a hidden gem of a restaurant. My compliments to the chef and the incredible staff for outstanding service. Maison can be really difficult to get into but it's absolutely worth the wait. The scallops were perfectly prepared and the presentation was outstanding. If you enjoy rabbit the pot pie is out of this world.

Wish I could leave 10 stars! One of the best restaurants in Charleston and extremely underrated. The attention to detail here is really on par with restaurants that charge twice as much. If you appreciate perfectly seasoned food and amazing sauce work this place is for you. The escargot with ramp butter was amazing as was the onion soup croquette. Entrees were stellar I got the monkfish almondine and my wife got the flounder both perfectly cooked with the right balance of richness acidity herbs and salt in the sauces. Our server Allison was great with her recommendations. She was always there when we needed her but never hovering. I’m not a dessert person but the creme caramel was exceptional. Think like the best flan you’ve ever had with a light espresso flavor. Also if you have any appreciation of good French fries do yourself a favor and get a side of the clarified butter pommes frites. We definitely will be back sooner rather than later!

This is a relatively new restaurant in the upper King St area that has become a hub for some of the more unique charleston dining experiences. Surrounded by such stalwarts as Little Jacks, Leon’s and Melfi’s, Maison fits in perfectly. This is a perfectly French bistro with a traditional bistro menu, good wine list and decent beer selection. Plenty of seating at the long bar, booths or small tables with limited additional small table seating on the patio. Decor leans toward ice cream parlor modern but lighting is good and noise levels are moderate enough for conversation. Service was very good and the dishes we sampled were all very good as well. The steak frites and flounder were both exceptional. The mousse was a perfect desert. Parking can be a bit of a challenge since the parking lot is shared by a number of neighboring businesses but there is on street parking nearby. Overall, this is a very good restaurant and we give it four clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale ( five Google star equivalent).

What a wonderful place to celebrate! We dined at Maison the night after getting engaged because it was the location of our 2nd date and they delivered again! Great food-a phenomenal lobster special, good drinks and a terrific way to celebrate!

Lovely quaint new French cuisine. Light fare, and fresh ingredients. They do not over salt their food, the menu is clever, but uses traditional concepts. Very French wine list, so the wines are lighter than American wines. Understated and unpretentious. Service absolutely exquisite. Nice people !

Have been to Maison a couple of times now over the past few years and each time I am very impressed with the dishes. There is clearly a high level of skill and technique in their kitchen. Only have photos from my last visit which was the burger and fries, but I feel like those items exemplify what Maison does really well. You can breakdown every element and thought and care has gone in from the clarified butter that gives a subtle buttery taste to the Bordelaise sauce that is poured over a bun that can withstand it without getting soggy. Other standout dishes were a mushroom tart that I still think about and a pea dish that changed my mind on peas. This place gives good examples of modern French dishes past what is normally available at most French restaurants in the US. Also, shoutout to their bartender that gave me a cocktail spec that was a riff on the Last Word that was awesome (1:1:1:1 Bourbon, Yellow Chartreuse, Benedictine, Lemon).

We came here for a birthday celebration during our family reunion trip. The customer service was excellent, and the food was pretty tasty! The steak frites was well seasoned, the duck confit was exquisite, the roasted chicken with mushrooms was flavorful, and the monkfish was delicious. On another note, the desserts were amazing! The chocolate mousse was light and creamy, while the madeleines were the perfect texture and flavor. We highly recommend trying the two together. It was our last dinner in Charleston, and it was a great way to end trip. We can’t wait to come back the next time we’re in town!

Harken Cafe is a charming vintage-inspired establishment located in downtown Charleston. It exudes a cozy country-chic vibe and offers a delightful menu featuring breakfast items, baguettes, cakes, and an assortment of vegan baked goods. The cafe is known for its impeccable decor that creates a homely atmosphere.
Obsessed with Harken ! This spot was 10/10. Their salads were fresh and unique with healthy ingredients. If you enjoy holistic eating, this is a must try spot. We LOVED the turmeric pumpkin seed apricot load ! We enjoyed it so much we came back twice a day for both breakfast and lunch ! … even grabbed their cookbook to try and recreate some of the recipes at home. The pasties were unique and artisan, always freshly baked. I loved the potato scallion salad and herb bean pea salad. 10/10 recommend. The pricing is also extremely reasonable.

On a very busy morning, Alissa at the front gave me stellar customer service. Warm, genuine, helpful, knowledgeable. Harlem is one of the best cafes I’ve ever been to and as a frequent traveler I’ve been to some of the best! Baked goods and coffee are out of this world! Don’t miss this charming and delicious place in historic Charleston!

We ordered a traditional macchiato, an iced caramel latte, the spinach artichoke bun, and the German chocolate bun. The pastries were tasty, but we didn’t know they could be warmed up until a friend mentioned they were asked. Wish that had been offered to us, since we definitely would’ve enjoyed them more that way. Coffee was solid, but we did notice a few flies on the open pastry case and in the bathroom, which was a bit off-putting. A cute spot overall, just a few small things that could make the experience even better.

Came here for a latte and pastries - the selection was incredible. you can tell the scones & biscuits were fresh basked. I ordered a pimento scone & raspberry pound cake, only received the matcha chocolate chip muffin. We didn’t notice until later because we took it to-go, so that was disappointing! Otherwise would give it 5 stars

Outstanding breakfast sandwich in a very charming place! The only major issue was the time to order on a Sunday morning was 30 mins - with roughly 14 people ahead in line - time to order just took forever. They said the food would take 25 mins, but was less.

This is the best coffee… and pastry shop… i have ever been to. It is a challenge to find something that isn’t good on the menu. Babas on Cannon is a European-style cafe located in Charleston, offering a relaxed atmosphere with a patio and a charming ambiance. The cafe serves a variety of light bites, coffee, and cocktails. Guests can enjoy espresso, matcha, and iced coffee along with house-made peanut milk. The menu also includes steeped-to-order chai tea lattes, quiche, pickled shrimp salad, and an espresso martini that takes 24 hours to make.
The coffee here was amazing! I keep thinking about it, I am obsessed with the peanut mocha I got. I also had their breakfast burrito which was a good size. My friend also got their honey latte and it was perfectly sweet and made with local honey. Everyone was really sweet and helpful. It was busy so we sat by the window, but there’s free WiFi which is convenient. Overall loved it!

Great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Limited seating inside and outside but it seems like a hot spot! I absolutely loved this place when I visited Charleston this month. I tried the Peanut Mocha (hot) and it was so delicious. It wasn’t “too sweet”, it was made just right. Barbecue restaurant
Chinese restaurant
King BBQ offers a unique dining experience where you place your order, receive a number, and then find a seat. The atmosphere is described as warm and inviting with friendly staff. The menu is well-labeled for food sensitivities, and the service is attentive even for large groups. Diners have praised the flavorful dishes such as fried okra, pork with rich flavors, and unreal crab Rangoon.
This place has been abuzz since it has opened so after months of waiting for the opportunity I finally gotten a chance. And if you like Jackrabbit Filly this place has the same modern asian mixed with the local vibe. As a barbeque restaurant it's very good, with their tangy spicy bok choy and the super savory collards. Over steamed rice these two alone are some of the best vegetable dishes I've ever had. My personal favorite were the collards. I got the Pork combo which came with a couple of spare ribs and pulled pork. The ruby red spare ribs had a little pull which reminds me of times I've been out in chinatown Frisco with their traditional BBQ rib fare. The pulled pork was so delicious, nothing like any pulled pork I've ever had in the south. It is uniquely in its own class. Not quite traditional SC mustard pulled pork, not quite the tang of east NC, not quite grilled moo shu pork, but a very specially blended and prepared meat dish. At that point I knew I must be back to try the other dishes. Like I mentioned earlier as a BBQ it's very good, but as a Chinese restaurant it's by far the best in town. Thanks to chef and owners for finally filling the gap in this town.
Joe P — Google review
King BBQ is a creative joint that serves Asian and low country fusion cuisine. Some of these flavor combinations were out of this world- the corn pudding being one of my favorites. You order at the counter and they bring their food to you. The atmosphere was wonderful, everything was made very well. My only critique is that the collards were a touch salty, but other than that I felt like these dishes capture Asian “mala” spice very well and had a great southern twist. Their drink menu looks so fun too, will definitely come back again so I can try them!
Samuel S — Google review
Great atmosphere with wonderful music playing, and an attentive staff. When you arrive, you stand in line for your food, you take a number and you take a seat. American portions with Asian food flare. They give you side mustard and hoisin sauce, but you need neither the food is exceptionally flavorful with complex variety. We tried both the pork and poultry combo plates along with multiple sides. Not in the best or safest neighborhood, but they had a dedicated, well lit and paved parking lot.

Absolutely incredible experience at King BBQ! It was tough to choose just one dish because everything on the menu looked amazing—so I’ll definitely be coming back to try more. My wife and I loveKing BBQ and Jackrabbit Filly. It’s so different from any other BBQ place you’ve ever been and it’s so flippin delicious. One bite of this food and you’ll realize why the chef / owner was a finalist on Top Chef. Dope spot, cool ambiance, great concept … and the food is astonishingly good. Pretty reasonable price per person as well! Definitely make sure you get the egg rolls and the crispy pork belly. Wild stuff. Duck was also tremendous. Will definitely be dreaming of this food for a while!

The atmosphere is fantastic, think NYC Chinatown BBQ spot and southern counter style BBQ restaurant had a baby. The rangoon dip appetizer was great, and there’s a small (but varied) selection of beers and cocktails. We each tried the noodle dish, which we found to be a great value for the portion. We sat at the bar for full service dinner on a Thursday night, we walked in without a wait. There’s plenty of parking in their lot as well. If you’re looking for traditional southern BBQ, this isn’t it, but it still hits all the high notes. Excited to go back and try the duck service 🙂

Kultura Charleston offers a modern take on traditional Filipino cuisine, re-imagining classic dishes with innovative twists. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere provides a perfect setting to explore the menu, which features limited but carefully curated options. Dishes like arroz caldo and pansit showcase unique flavors, with creative additions such as smoked trout roe and xo sauce adding depth to the culinary experience.
Went with a large group, sat outside on the patio. It’s small, so reservations are recommended! Amazing service and food. Great ambiance. The cocktails were really unique, made with sake. And the food was out of this world! We had a large group so got to sample almost everything on the menu, and it was all delicious. Will definitely be coming back soon.

Edited review for the new location. Food continues to be fantastic and great service. New spot has a great feel inside and a lot more tables. One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston! Second time and another great experience. Favorite was the duck. Amazing flavors. Service is always great. We ate outside on the terrace today.

Kultura is a unique addition to Charleston! Drinks were tasty, due to no liquor license, most were made with sake, vermouth, and fresh juices, spices, herbs. First up was a take on Crudo- delicious. Fresh, ginger forward. The Curry (snapper) was delicious, fantastic curry flavor over sticky rice. Would have preferred a bit more curry sauce. The Rice Porridge was recommended as being written up in NY times. This is a notable dish - extremely unusual. It is super savory with many flavors going on and strong undertones of Orange. Its like a swirling of a chicken soup, a porky ramen, has tones of fish (roe), and the citrus/orange - its a totally confusing and amazing dish. Must try. The dessert was a “deconstructed coconut pie” of ive cream, whip, and topped with a puff pastry chip on top. This was like a very light fluffy vanilla with strong coconut tones. Solid ice cream dish. Some things to note - - Parking (by chubby fish and Verns) is difficult. - There are only 3 tables inside and a handful outside, small, or bar seating. - They take reservations very seriously as a result and will kindly ask you to leave if overstaying your “time slot” - they state up front the dishes come out in random order. Our main came out before our apps, which didnt bother me but may be slightly unusual. - no liquor license so their cocktails on sake and vermouth are about it. Beer wine, non alc. - almost everything on the menu can be made GF, Vegan, Veggie only or dairy free. Rare to find a spot where nearly the whole many can accommodate special diets. Probably the only filipino spot in town, Kultura adds even more diversity to the cities culinary scene.

Nice to find a creative Filipino restaurant in Charleston. The dishes were going for the higher end vibe. While the presentation was great, overall the dishes (e.g. Kinilaw, Talong) lacked a little acidity to push them through, which is a bit surprising to me (Filipino food is well known for the use of vinegar). The Curry was delicious but I wish it had more given the large portion of the fish. The Buko Pie-ish was incentive but very one note (coconut) so it got tiring quickly. The chef sent us a complimentary seafood-ish congee which was delicious. And the cocktails were very well crafted.

“A dish well-prepared is a source of joy” Filipinos take great pride in their cooking and this popular saying expresses the care and attention Filipinos give to food. Every meal is treated as an art form, prepared with love and precision. This rings true at Kultura Charleston on Spring St (soon moving to a bigger space on Rutledge) We were blown away by the flavors and the colors of the dishes we had last night. Chef Nikko Cagalanan really has it dialed in! We had 3 of the 4 Small Plate offerings and 3 of the 5 Large plate offerings: Kinilaw- Yellowfin Tuna with Coconut Leche, Mint, and a touch of lime Zest. The fish was reminiscent of a light ceviche. Rellenong Sili- Cubanelle Pepper stuffed with Pork and Crab Sweet Garlic Longganisa with a Roasted Pepper Soubise Enasaladang Talong- Roasted Eggplant salad topped with Piquante Peppers, Lychee, Pickled Raisins, Grapes, and Smoked (Salmon??) Roe dressed with Miso Vinaigrette. A refreshing and vibrant work of art on a plate. Adobong Dilaw- Braised Duck Leg with Turmeric-Coconut Milk sauce, Kale Laing, Roasted Broccoli and Sticky Rice Curry- Roasted Filet of Red Snapper, Rich Red Curry sauce,Shaved Carrot Salad, Fresh Herbs and Rice Pork Asado- Peculiar Pig Farm Roasted pork Chop served with rich Assado sauce, Pineapple Mostarda, and Blistered Kale from Dog Patch Farms. Spectacular dish! We hade leftovers of this one but unfortunately we forgot to take them with us when we left🤦‍♂️ We were amazed when we received a phone call from the restaurant asking if we wanted them to hold it for us, but we had already travel to our next destination and couldn’t turn back. This meal is in our top tier of favorite meals in Charleston we will be going to dine with them again and take folks who come visit us to show them how spectacular the food in Charleston is. (keep your eyes open for when they move to Rutledge Ave but for now they are at: Kultura Charleston 73 Spring St Unit A Charleston, SC

Came for a solo dinner on a Friday night and was seated at the chef’s counter. What followed was a meal I wasn’t prepared for—it was outstanding. I started with the Rellenong Sili, easily the best stuffed pepper I’ve ever had. The blend of crab, pork, and longganisa was flawless. Sitting at the counter, I didn’t want to bother Chef Nikko, but he surprised me with a bowl of arroz caldo while I waited for my main. It was stunning—complex yet comforting. He’s a true master of flavor, and when he struck up a conversation, we ended up having a great talk about food and travel. For my main, I had the roasted duck. Simple, perfectly executed, and letting the duck itself shine. But the real star was the kale laing—absolutely out of this world. I would’ve ordered it as a side dish on its own if I could. Service matched the food. My server was knowledgeable, attentive, and guided me through each dish with care. Kultura is a one-of-a-kind culinary experience you won’t find anywhere else in Charleston.

Jackrabbit Filly is a trendy restaurant located in the Park Circle area of Charleston, offering contemporary Chinese-American cuisine in a relaxed setting with a patio. The menu features bold and vibrant Chinese-fusion flavors served family-style. It originated from the popular food truck Short Grain and has now transitioned into a brick-and-mortar establishment.
You had me at Mellow Corn! My GF and I had dinner there last night and thought it was excellent. We had reservations and showed up a little early but were able to get seated as soon as we walked in. We got some drinks and 4 items to split. All of the food was great but the dumplings were some of the best dumplings I have ever had. I'm a big fan of Mellow Corn and when I saw it on the menu I got pretty excited as you don't see it on menus that often. I'm not usually one to get a frozen drink but man, this was amazing and I would go back just for it. Overall we had a great time and will be returning in the future.

Great vibe. Friendly service. Great drinks menu. Loved the food. All plates meant to share so it is a great way to try many plates, which we did! Everything was excellent but the favorites were the tuna tartare and the pork dumplings! Recommend reserving a table.

Food was amazing. Dumplings were a tad spicy but great flavor. Karrage Don was my favorite dish we tried. Crispy fried chicken & nice portion size. Peanut noodles served cold, these are a bit odd & I did not care for them but just my preference. Our service started out great & then almost had no service. Had to ask another staff member twice to call our waiter over as he was no where to be found. I seen where the staff member walked to & he was at a table chatting with other coworkers. This review would have been a 5 star if the service was great.

Wow everything was fantastic- lots of unexpected and amazing flavors. We all loved everything; krab rangoon cheese ball was great- absolute faves were the pierogis. The bao with radish cake were some magic, and the chocolate cake was so memorable. Highly recommend and recommend reservations if you go at a busy time. We will definitely be back.

One of my favorite places to go when visiting Charleston! Menu changes every so often with new and more amazing dishes. You can’t go wrong- best to go with 4+ people so you can try lots of things. Family style. Great cocktails and fun vibe too.

We were visiting from out of town but kept seeing Jackrabbit Filly as a recommendation and decided to check it out. Highly recommend reservations (we were able to get day of for 5:45). They have a 1.5 hour limit. We went for dinner and got there early to see if we could be seated early (we were already in the area). They said they would have to see and had us wait (which since we were early- I understood- but the dining areas were empty). Waiter was kind. Recommended sharing 3-4 plates for 2 people. We got: Food -Garlicky Cucumbers -Karage -Pork Dumpling -Pineapple fried rice -and had some leftovers from the pineapple fried rice. Our favorites were the cucumbers and karage. Other contenders were the potato and leek dumplings, gnocchi, and veggies Drinks -It's a Party (espresso martini) very smooth and good -As If (nonalcholic) you're typical digestive bitters drink I enjoyed the small plates style experience. Came out to a little over $50/per person

The food isn't that great unfortunately. The steamed pork dumplings are the worst we ever had. The tea doesn't taste right. The water at the table was warm. Our server was very nice but we will not be returning. I would recommend Mr. Pan as a better option.

Bintü Atelier is a Charleston restaurant deeply influenced by the culinary traditions of enslaved African Americans. Owner Binta NDaw Young was drawn to the city's connection between African-inspired cuisine and high-profile dining. The restaurant offers made-to-order dishes with fresh ingredients, creating addictively unforgettable flavors. Chef Bintou and her team provide excellent quality food and service in an intimate space that feels like home.
Highly recommend! The hot sauce that came with the skewers was amazing, so flavorful. We got several small and large plates and split them amongst four of us, and everything was delicious. We sat on the outdoor patio which had a beautiful set up and great vibes. An overhead fan kept the area cool in the shaded tent. We had a chance to speak with the owners who were lovely. I would definitely come here for authentic African cuisine. We brought a couple bottles of wine with us, as they do not serve alcohol.

Visiting the area and like finding authentic places to explore. Intended to dine-in but it’s a small venue and reservations filled up by 9:00am. However, there is an option for online ordering with options for time slots. Some of the dishes and drinks were already sold out. Ordered Yassa Lamb, it was incredibly good, tender and flavorful. Also got the Mafe Groundnut Beef Stew, in the peanut sauce with spinach. I was expecting chicken because that term was used in the description and the picture resembled it too but the meal was great and the spices she uses takes everything up to another level. Fresh made papaya juice was great. Would’ve love the option to add a desert. Restaurant is in a residential neighborhood that already relies on street parking. I would suggest using Lyft or Uber for drop off since parking can be difficult and may not want to walk from far away. * suggest adding plastic wrap to take out containers to prevent staining from leakage.

This place was the best food we had on our trip to Charleston! The atmosphere was perfect, small, quaint and staff was super friendly! We had some homemade juices, the snapper and yassa and it was all cooked and flavored to perfection. I will definitely be visiting this spot again, next time we're in Charleston!

Flavor should be the first and last thing you say after dining here. I brought my wife here after we saw this restaurant on Charleston Infatuation. Didn't disappoint is a gross understatement. We tried several dishes and everything is out if this world. Please make a reservation and enjoy some truly remarkable food.

Food is incredible, so much flavor. It's refreshing to break away from the usual Charleston restaurant scene and experience something unique. I've eaten here twice and tried many dishes - nothing has disappointed! Service is awesome. The staff are conversational and welcoming. They helped make recommendations and feel comfortable with an unfamiliar menu. The restaurant is very small but cozy. I appreciate all of the charm and decor.

Fantastic food. The braised grouper (Thiebuidieun) was an amazing combination of spices and flavors. The shrimp fritters had a wonderful texture and was a great mix of sweet, savory and spicy. There is so much to try on the menu. The diners at the table next to us had the smoked beef in peanut sauce and raved about it. Will definitely come back to try more. Cozy fun setting.

Halls Chophouse is a top-notch American steakhouse in Charleston, known for its elegant ambiance and exceptional hospitality. The restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring the finest USDA prime steaks, aged for at least 28 days, as well as other high-quality meats like veal, pork, and roast chicken. Guests can also indulge in what many consider to be the best burgers in Charleston.
The service was top tier from the moment you walk inside. We ordered the signature cocktails, 434 and I dream of Jeanie, and both were great options. The lobster Mac n cheese was the best side. The collard greens had a different flavor than I’m used it, a little sweeter, but it was good. My husband loved the duck entree and the flavor of the entire dish. The Grouper was also good (slightly overcooked). The flavor of the steak was great. Slightly overcooked on the preferred cook on certain portions. Overall, a wonderful experience.

One of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had. As soon as we walk through the door, the owner personally introduces himself and shakes our hands. We came to celebrate our anniversary, and were served complimentary champagne after being seated. Rob, our server, was excellent in explaining menu options and even brought a platter of steaks out to show us all of the cuts. We ordered Caesar salads, she-crab soup, filet, prime rib, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes - everything was excellent! They even treated us to a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary, we chose the banana pudding cheesecake, which was of course delicious. Will definitely be back to celebrate our next milestone!

Soul, Steak & Song: The Legendary Halls Gospel Brunch 🎶🥩🍳 I’ve eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, and as a Level 7 Google Local Guide (Top 1.5% globally), I can confidently say: Halls Chophouse is the top restaurant in the US. This was my second day in a row dining here, and today I came for the legendary Sunday Gospel Brunch. From the moment you step inside, the energy is unmatched—live gospel music filling the room, a warm crowd buzzing with joy, and Billy (partner/owner) himself standing at the door, greeting guests with genuine hospitality. That touch alone sets the tone. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon & eggs—perfectly seared, tender, and rich—paired with their house specialty, a Bloody Beer (think a refreshing twist on a Bloody Mary, perfectly balanced). Even the bread service deserves a shoutout: warm, fresh, and dangerously addictive. The menu is a masterclass in Southern comfort meets prime steakhouse: • She-Crab Soup (a Charleston classic done right) • Crab Cake Eggs Benedict (Creole hollandaise magic) • Southern Sweet Potato Pancakes with maple butter & smoked bacon Every plate that passed my table looked like art, and every note of gospel added soul to the meal. Service: Impeccable. The staff at Halls are polished yet personable—professional enough to anticipate your needs, but friendly enough to make you feel at home. This is what dining should be: food, music, and community woven into one unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a foodie, a tourist, or a local, this is a must-do Charleston ritual. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food: 5/5 Drinks: 5/5 Vibe: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Value: 5/5 #BillyEats #BillyDrinks #BarScout #FoodieLife #TopGoogleReviewer #GlobalBites #HallsChophouse #CharlestonEats

Hands down one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, the owner came over to personally introduce himself and shake our hands — such a warm welcome! We were celebrating a birthday, and they brought out complimentary champagne shortly after we were seated, which was such a nice touch. Our server, Josh, was amazing — he walked us through the menu, answered all our questions, and even brought out a tray of steaks to show us the different cuts. Everything was perfect from start to finish. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary dessert for the birthday. We’ll definitely be back to celebrate again!

We were thrilled with every part of our dining experience. We were welcomed with smiles and taken to our table. The staff patiently talked with us about the menu and drink choices, ensuring we made the best decisions for our dinner. The food: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The fried corn, the fried green tomatoes, the Antarctica sea bass, our amazing homard mac&cheese. Did we mention the first-class selection of beef steaks? We chose a robust Malbec and topped off the meal with a digestif of Chartreuse. We recommend without hesitation this dining experience! Thank you 🙏 Pascal and Andrew

As a fine dining manager and food enthusiast visiting from Houston, I can confidently say Halls Chophouse is a masterclass in hospitality and execution. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted warmly by the staff — and even welcomed personally by one of the co-owners. That level of engagement and presence in the dining room is something truly rare and speaks volumes about the culture they’ve built here. The restaurant was buzzing — packed with guests, filled with live music, and full of energy. Despite the lively ambiance, service remained attentive, polished, and genuine. Our server took the time to present the steak tray and explain each cut in detail — a thoughtful touch that shows pride and professionalism. Attention to detail in allergies and the servers pouring his heart in the service what sold me. I went with the Bison steak, accompanied by a she crab soup and multiple sides, and it was outstanding. Perfectly prepared, full of flavor, and easily one of the best steaks I’ve enjoyed in recent memory. If you prefer a quieter dining experience, I’d suggest requesting a table away from the music — but otherwise, lean into the vibrant atmosphere. Halls Chophouse represents everything a classic American steakhouse should be: warm hospitality, quality ingredients, and flawless execution. I’ll absolutely return whenever I’m in Charleston — this place sets the benchmark.

Reservations necessary. We were there for dinner at 5:30 pm and it was already packed. Owner greeted us at the door, stopped at our table twice and said goodbye as we left. Impressive staff. Our waitress suggested half portions since we had nowhere to store leftovers. Even that amount was filling. I tried 2 local beers. My wife had 2 glasses of wine. We split the filet, baked potato, asparagus and salad.

My husband made a reservation here for our first wedding anniversary during our trip to Charleston! Right when we walked in we were personally greeted by the owner and all of the staff was so welcoming and friendly! Our server, Nicholas, was excellent and walked us through the menu and gave the great recommendation to get the Kansas City strip, which was phenomenal! They even gave us champagne and dessert to celebrate! The best dining experience we have ever had and will definitely make the trip from Atlanta to visit again! Thank you!!

Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar is a must-visit destination for seafood enthusiasts in downtown Charleston, SC. Nestled in the vibrant heart of the city, this restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere with its charming brick walls and clubby vibe. The menu showcases a delightful array of fresh, local seafood that highlights the essence of Lowcountry cuisine.
Great place, awesome location and wonderful service. The shrimp were cooked perfect, tons of flavor. Oysters top notch, topsail were my favorite. If you have kids, definitely try a bite of Fry's or mac & cheese...both were delicious. The shrimp and grits was dynamite and nice sized portion. Only critic was the crab cakes a little dry, but packed with flavor.

The location is in the heart of Charl. The exterior and the feel when you walk in are nice. The tables are very small, and the waiters are always on their toes when two dishes arrive. I recommend not going without a reservation. Generally, the food, and of course the oysters, were good. However, the cocktails were abysmal. They were very simple, flavorless, and lacking in attention. Even though our son took some great photos, don't let them fool you. :)) The prices are quite high. I'd say it's in the middle of the price-performance ratio.

Had a great time! My husband said the raw oysters were the best he's had since we arrived in Charleston. I enjoyed the peach salad with the catch of the day, which was halibut. It was cooked perfectly!

We came here for dinner to celebrate my friend’s birthday after looking at their menu. It was a really nice day out so we opted to sit outside. We started with the calamari steak cut and it was pretty good, but felt like it could’ve been crispier but based on how they were cut like “steak fries” it was more on the soft side. The crab cakes with mash potatoes were bigger than I expected. The mash was a touch too salty for me, on top of the already savory crab cakes and sauce so it was a little over powering although the flavors were good. My favorite dish was the risotto with seared scallops. They had the perfect sear and texture along with the creamy risotto. Our server checked on us from time to time but we didn’t converse with her much. We didn’t get offered anything for her bday and it wasn’t a super special experience but the service was still good in terms of how everything was paced and our waters stayed refilled.

I last minute booked a reservation for my husband’s birthday at this place. Before this dinner i had never heard of Amens but oh my god was it the right choice. They got us into our reservation an hour early (we were happy to wait, but figured we’d would just ask), our server Danelle was AMAZING! Danelle absolutely elevated our experience at amen. She gave us plenty of suggestions, never rushed us, and was so pleasant to interact with. The food was also 10/10. We are new to eating oysters and i think we may like oysters a lot now 😂 bourbon glazed salmon is a must if you try Amens!

Food was phenomenal. Was quoted 2 hour wait, ended up being about an hour and 45 mins which was a nice surprise! This place is absolutely worth the wait. Had some raw oysters and shrimp as a starter, came with 3 unique delicious sauces, so good! I had lobster roll and my friend had the seared scallops. Both were amazing! Oysters we're decent but definitely nothing to brag about. Most were salty but there was a decent selection. Other menu items were a bit limited seemed to be well liked by customers. Alcohol prices were way too high comparatively. Worth trying but expect to pay a premium for the name and experience

It's a budget-friendly spot where both locals and visitors can enjoy a wide variety of Southern comfort food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night meals until 4am on weekends. The menu features favorites like Chicken & Waffles, Fried Pork Chop with Pepper Jelly, Blackened Catfish, and Meatloaf.
Went to lunch with my husband, Early Bird never disappoints. Today was extraordinary. I tried something different for me, the Snitzle Sandwich! I am a huge sandwich fan! I can tell you without a doubt this was the best unique sandwich I have had in a decade. The pork cutlet was fried to perfection, the mushroom gravy, just enough to add flavor without taking away the crunch perfection, the idyllically toasted bread was butter like it was being served to the gods… all to make this sandwich the most delightful luncheon in years!

Came highly recommend and I am glad I came here! The chicken and waffle were amazing! You don't even need strup as the honey mustard sauce is sweet enough and goes perfect with each bite of waffle and fried chicken. Also, tried the corn cakes benedict with their grits, and let me tell you that those grits are by themselves worth the visit. I will definitely be back again!

Great place to go if you love excellent diner food and big portions (which I do)! My son got three pancakes and they were each the size of the plate...he barely ate half - took the rest to go. The biscuits are scratch made and excellent. I also recommend the homemade sausage which is crispy on the outside and super flavorful. Our waitress was super busy, but she hustled well and did a fantastic job. Parking can be tricky, but we made it with a full size Transit van.

We stopped in here for brunch while we were in Charleston. It was a restaurant Guy visited so we wanted to try it. The service was great. Parking is a little tuff as the place was busy. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I had the early morning burger. It tasted good but I don't think I would get it with egg again. My wife had the chicken and waffles. She said hers was delicious. With tip the bill was $50. We would definitely stop in to eat again.

Bowens Island Restaurant is a beloved waterfront eatery that has been serving up fresh seafood since 1946. Despite the loss of its original building in 2012, locals and visitors still flock to this spot between James Island and Folly Beach for its local seafood dishes and picturesque sunset views at the end of a gravel road. The restaurant is known for its authentic oyster roast experience, making it a popular venue for reunions, parties, and even wedding receptions.
The food was good, with a huge amount of shrimp on our fish and shrimp plate. The restaurant itself is rustic, mostly open air, and a great place if you like those kinds of places which we do. The sunset is awesome there, but get there early enough to get a good seat. Large bar area.

The food is all fried. But, if you like oysters this is your place. It has one of the best views for sunset. Plenty of parking and everyone is very nice. It really is a good place for all visitors to come- they also do kayak and boat tours from here. It’s South Carolina- for sure! It’s not a swanky place- casual clothes and bug spray!

A hidden gem! If there’s a long line, grab a beer and enjoy the views! Absolutely everything is delicious. The best fried seafood I’ve ever had (I’m not big on fried food). The fried shrimp and fish are amazing. The crab dip is fantastic. Crab cakes are huge and tasty. Can’t beat washing it down with a cold beer or cocktail, all perfect with the open air, marshy beach vibe. Beautiful location with 360 views, open and low key atmosphere. Enjoy the breeze while you wait for your food. Can’t recommend enough!

Best fried shrimp I've ever had, by far. Perfect combination of salt balancing the delicate sweetness of the shrimp with just a light coating of breading for crunch. The service...well...it matches the facilities. If you're looking for someone to shower you with praise or southern syrupy sweetness, this is not the restaurant you're looking for. If you want kickass seafood, come here.

Overall great experience. The staff was nice. I got the fish and shrimp platter. It was delicious and lightly battered. My husband got the seafood platter with 2 crab cakes, shrimp, and fish. My favorite was the fish, it was the best tender melt in your mouth flounder I ever tasted.

I was afraid to check it out after reading the negative reviews but I am glad I did. It was busy, waited in line to order and food took a little longer than I would have expected. Oysters on the half shell were great. Shrimp and grits were tasty. I found a quiet seat in the raw bar with a great view, which might have made it a little harder to find me and my number. Ontario in the raw bar was super friendly and took good care of everyone there.

Cafeteria style, order at window, find a seat (no hostess), always busy and popular with the locals, because food is great, but limited local fish/shellfish menu. By the time you order, you can usually find a table, because tables turn over quite quickly. Beautiful spot off the beaten path, so worth the stop if you like seafood!

The biscuits are made with just four simple ingredients, but somehow they pack in so much flavor. We tried a few things, but the standouts were the bacon, egg & cheese buttermilk biscuit sandwich and the pimento cheese biscuit—honestly, one of the best versions of pimento cheese I’ve ever had. They also serve creamy Carolina grits in a biscuit bowl, which was such a cozy and delicious surprise. If you’re into cooking, they sell their biscuit mix and even offer biscuit-making classes. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Charleston!

Good, quick biscuit spot. There’s no seating and this place gets packed so plan to eat at the standing counter or take to go. They don’t have the chicken on the main menu but make sure to check out the specials at the register. We got the hot honey chicken and the bacon egg and cheese. They also have biscuits and other treats to go.

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit is the perfect Charleston breakfast spot! The biscuits are warm, flaky, and full of flavor. We not only built our own breakfast biscuits but got the flavored mini biscuits! Definitely a must-try experience to start your day right.

Delicious buttery goodness! Callie’s biscuits are flaky yet filling, with crispy, crunch crust to it. I got the sausage, egg and pimento cheese spread. Yum!! It is a narrow shop, so standing room only. One must stroll to find this hidden gem otherwise you might miss it. Must try even if you have to pass by a few times!

Stopped in to grab a biscuit to go on my last day in Charleston. I wish I had found this place sooner! I got an egg, sausage, cheese biscuit. It was delicious. The staff was very friendly, the food is great, and the prices are good. Stop by, you'll be glad you did!

This place is a little in/out breakfast gem. The biscuits are supposed to be made from scratch and they definitely taste like it!! —DELISH!!! We were in Charleston doing the week this time and was able to pop right in and out every morning. Last visit was on the weekend and the lines were just wayyy too long.

Awesome. Sent a big order to a friend whose mother in law passed. I’d planned to go to Charleston for 3 years…. But hadn’t made it. So I ordered for me…. And family. Almost as good as mine. I’d give Callie a 99 and me a 💯. Only because when I’m making them I’m eating them… too many of them. Watch reruns of her show. Awesome sausage biscuits and sharp cheddar biscuits. I’m hooked.

We ordered 3 total biscuits and they were all melt in your mouth. It was a slower day so we didn’t have to wait in line and we were able to eat on their little counter.

New American restaurant
The Grocery is a warm and inviting restaurant with an inventive, seasonal menu and a selection of signature cocktails, wine, and craft beers. Chef Kevin Johnson, a multiple-time James Beard Award-semifinalist, showcases the flavors of locally sourced ingredients in dishes like the Lowcountry Seafood Pilau and wood-roasted whole fish. The restaurant's wood-burning oven imparts a smoky flavor to various dishes such as cauliflower, asparagus, and whole roasted snapper.
Had a great visit with friends! We had a reservation and were seated promptly by the window, which gave us a nice view and a quieter atmosphere compared to the main room, which was a bit noisy. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The only downside was that we weren't offered a dessert menu, so if you’re hoping for dessert, be sure to ask. Bonus: they have a paid parking lot, but you can validate your ticket after paying the check, which is super convenient. Overall, a solid experience!

My friend and I came in for a quick dessert and a glass of wine after dinner. We were sat immediately and the hosts were super nice and asked if a booth was suitable. After taking a quick glance at the menu our server Anna came and greeted us, walking us through the dessert menu. We mentioned that my friend has a nut allergy and Anna quickly confirmed with the kitchen that the nuts she was allergic to were not in or on the dessert we ordered. The Ricotta almond cake was DIVINE. A perfect suggestion made by our server. It practically melted in our mouths! The textures were soft with a bit of crunch at the end from the almonds! Overall it was an amazing experience! We will absolutely be back for a full course meal! Thank you Anna!

An incredible meal. Was difficult to determine what to order because it all sounded intriguing! Many vegetarian options because they are heavy produce, but so much better! Had eggplant for our app, fish and pasta for dinner.

The Grocery is a welcoming neighborhood eatery dishing out fan favorites sourced from farmers, fisherman, and friends. We had a large party and they were very accommodating. They let us eat and catch up with friends. The standouts from the meal were the bistro steak and story farms half chicken but everything was delicious. Charleston has lots of great spots and You can add the Grocery to the list! We will be back!

The pickled green tomato dirty martini is one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had! In addition we had delicious pasta and veggies. The steak tartare was also a highlight and the service was delightful!

We came to groceries several times in the past and have not been to this restaurant for a while so we decided to check out this place and made a reservation last week. We had a wonderful dinner at the grocery and pretty surprise that we didn't do it sooner. Our server was friendly and quite knowledgeable with the menu and drink The restaurant was roomy and has a good lay out. We had the storey farm half chicken dish and the potato crusted tile fish. They were so good. The yellowfin tuna crudo and broccoli salad tasted amazing as well. We will be back!

The food was AMAZING!! Service was good, I didnt enjoy that when we sat before even looking at menus we were asked if we wanted bread and butter. We said yes assuming it was complimentary like so many other restaurants, but when the bill came, they charged us for it. It was a very sneaky move. I dont appreciate that kind of service. Other than that everything was spot on Other than that everything was amazing. We ordered mushrooms, blistered peppers, wreck fish, and the baklava sundae 🍨 Highly recommend

Excellent drink menu, delicious small plates. The pork belly, peaches, and eggplant plates were all very well done, and I normally avoid eggplant. Everything is well balanced and thoughtfully constructed. The potatoes with the steak were uniquely prepared, thin sliced, and then restocked. The Au Pear cocktail was delicious but a tad small, or at least that was my perception. Would absolutely come back. Rachel was our server, she was very helpful and accommodating.

Prohibition is a modern American restaurant in Charleston with a Jazz Age theme and creative cocktails. High Wire, the first distillery in downtown Charleston since Prohibition, stands out for its use of southern-grown grains and small-batch experimental spirits. The owners' culinary background emphasizes terroir and agriculture, earning them James Beard Award nominations. The vintage-inspired decor at Prohibition creates a speakeasy atmosphere, offering inventive cocktails and a dim sum dish that reflects Lowcountry flavors.
Best place for brunch so far. Cocktails were delicious, and the food was served quickly and was fantastic. Great food for the money. Server was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

The band playing played a wide variety of music and made brunch that much better. Haley was our server, super awesome. Thank you to Chris as well for making our experience great!

Old Fashioned has a suave peach twist and the Margarita Fuego was EXCELLENT: Blanco tequila, lime, Cointreau, chipotle, mango, and jalapeno - not too spicy and the mango to help curb the zip. This place is packed. We had to gravitate to the back patio bar. My main qualm was waiting over 10 minutes to order while sitting at the bar. Bachelorette parties standing over my shoulder kept getting the go ahead to order. I was about to leave had I been skipped over one more time. Also, with the name Prohibition I was expecting more 30's speakeasy aesthetics and decor... but it felt more like the stereotypical modern rustic craft cocktail bar. Not worth frequenting if that's your selling point in question. Overall, decent cocktails, some with a minor twist. The place seemed like it sponsored bachelorette parties with the amount of coordinated costumes & celebratory groups in there. Must be a prime spot to go out with your friends, not as much for an intimate outing.

This restaurant has a cool vibe and some rather yummy food. Stopped here for lunch and sat on there back patio which was very nice and chill. Got the deviled eggs, wings, and chopped cheese burger. The eggs were fantastic and highly recommend this. The wings were decent and the chopped cheese had some great flavors. The drink menu was good and had plenty of cool mixed options. The bartender made a nice expresso martini. Service was friendly, but slow, and hectic. We got our entree before our appetizer and the wings came with the check. Overall, id definitely recommend.

The atmosphere was very cool! But the drinks needed a little more. We found them not well balanced and had a hard time finishing them. We would’ve given a second round another chance but our waitress never came back to ask. She was wonderful but the bar needed more people working because the room wasn’t close to full or busy but she was constantly busy with different tasks. So her inattentiveness certainly was not on purpose at all. We felt bad for her. However after waiting for so long we did have to approach the bar and ask for our check. We wondered if we would have liked the second round better. The charcuterie board was truly divine! So for small bites and maybe a simple drink i do recommend it!

My friends and partner and I went to Prohibition this past Saturday. It was pouring rain so while parking across the street was the most desirable option- it WAS close and convenient. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted and told that there was only outdoor seating available unless we wanted to wait a little while so we opted for the patio. It was covered so that was good. The reason I gave a 4 star rating is because I thought the manager could have opted to turn on a couple heaters being that it was a bit chilly with it raining and the wind was blowing a bit. Luckily we had jackets so that helped. On to the dining experience- this place has several small plate options which I’m not always crazy about due to portion sizes but the items were ordered were sufficient and we were all able to share with each other. My partner got the tomato bisque soup w/ grilled cheese and while it’s such a simple option- it was perfect and exactly what she needed to warm her up a bit. The soup was creamy and rich and the grilled cheese was crust less and had a good cheese pull. My only complaint would be that the grilled cheese could have been a little bigger. I ordered the brussel sprouts which were great. They were nice and crispy and flavorful. One of my friends ordered the baked oysters- my issue with this dish is that it only came w/ 3 and they weren’t that big- also, I never understood why restaurants don’t do appetizers like that in even numbers. The oysters were cooked perfectly and tasted great and they had a good creaminess from the cheese. The MVP of the night was the bone marrow- I had never had it before and was very hesitant to try it…until I saw it. I tried it and it was amazing! So good in fact that we ordered a 2nd order. The bone marrow was like a rich butter and the meat (I think was brisket?) that topped it was amazing as well- it was sweet and savory. We had 3 old fashioned cocktails and an espresso martini w/ an added shot of baileys which was fantastic! We’ll be back again for sure!

First I must say, the chef is a gem. This kitchen put out a very fine lobster roll, which I enjoyed as an appetizer along with a short pour from the finest Pinot noir from Oregon. Next up, although hesitant at first, I ordered the filet mignon, this by the way was agreed upon by the bartender Trent Major. The filet was served rare with haricot verde’ and awesome potato scalloped. Very well paired with the reasonably priced bottle of Pinot. I would like to add a total recommendation of “100%” for attitude of both Trent, Maria and the entire staff. Life is short spend a little time at this local gem.

Home Team BBQ is a lively tavern known for its generous portions of smoked meat and Southern sides, as well as frequent live music. The restaurant was established in 2006 by Aaron Fiery Ron Siegel, who transformed a mid-1900s gas station into a popular barbecue hangout in West Ashley. Today, the establishment has expanded to seven locations and offers thriving catering services. The menu features local favorites such as dry-rubbed smoked wings with Alabama White Sauce and BBQ Nachos.
Try the brisket y’all! This place is hands-down one of the best barbeque places you’ll ever try. The food is outstanding, the ambiance and atmosphere is outstanding, and the service is top-notch. They also have a great selection of local brews on top. This place is worth every penny if you find your way here.

This place has become me and my girlfriend's new favorite restaurant. We've come here all 5 times now and will continue to stop by. The staff are always super friendly and the food is to die for. The pulled pork tastes amazing and being able to sauce it yourself is a great way to make sure it's perfect for your tastes. The ribs are THE BEST ribs I've ever had, the char grilled outside with the tender, juicy, pink inside and savory flavor is so good and I must recommend it to everyone. We will definitely continue to come back.

I've been hearing about Home Team BBQ ever since I moved here a year ago- I can't believe this was my first time! I went with a group of friends and we were all blown away by our entrees. I personally had the pulled pork meat plate with mac & cheese and coleslaw on the side. Sarah provided excellent service and we had a great experience.

Delicious BBQ in a very cool setting. A lot of the walls are covered with concert posters and there's a mural of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. The pulled pork was delicious and I liked their Red and Red Hot (not that hot) sauces. Their mustard based sauces went well with the smoked sausage. Their pickles deserve a mention, too: their homemade and amazing!

Restaurant
Millers All Day is a refined bistro, bakery, and bar in Charleston that offers breakfast all day. The restaurant was created by a team of passionate Southern chefs and a farmer who grinds fresh grits daily on a 175-year-old mill visible from the window. The menu features staples like eggs, pancakes, and various coffee options. Co-owner Greg Johnsman ensures that the restaurant balances blue plate breakfasts with fancy morning entrees such as lobster toast on house-baked brioche.
Miller’s All Day is exactly the kind of place you want to linger over breakfast or brunch. The atmosphere has such a fun, retro diner vibe with a Charleston twist—it feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The food is not only beautifully presented but absolutely delicious. Their grits are some of the creamiest I’ve ever had, and the biscuits are perfectly fluffy and buttery. My coffee stayed full (always a plus!) and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. The staff was so friendly and attentive without being rushed, which really added to the experience. You can tell they care about both the food and the people they serve. It’s one of those spots that makes you want to come back again and again—whether for a slow morning or to show off Charleston to out-of-town guests. If you’re in town and want a true taste of Southern breakfast done right, Miller’s All Day is a must!

Atmosphere and service was fantastic! We came to Millers for a quick brunch before heading home. We got the banana bread and the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The banana bread was heavenly! It was moist and had a light chocolate cream that melted right on your tongue. The grilled cheese was super crispy and the tomato soup was amazing! The cappuccino latte had a nice decoration and tasted perfect! I would come here everyday if I had the chance to! 😊

From start to finish the whole experience was 10/10!!! Appetizers, drinks, entrées were spectacular. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is adorable. Tristen our server, was amazing. We saw the menu and immediately knew we wanted to come here. Bonnie was an absolute gem and a fabulous server, her advice and suggestions were spot on and she was so sweet. The food was absolutely fantastic! We literally loved every bite of everything we got. The cinnamon roll was absolutely enormous and even tho we shared it, we barely made a dent. The grits + cheddar cheese were amazing. The cornmeal pancakes and fried chicken were spectacular. We very likely will come back for breakfast tomorrow.

Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to next time I’m in town!

Fantastic breakfast. The biscuits are amazing. We would have liked to try a cinnamon roll, as some of our neighbors were enjoying them, but we were just too stuffed! Service was friendly and attentive. We were willing to take a high top so did not have to wait.

Really tasty breakfast spot! The food was great, though the prices were a little high ($4 just to swap bacon for sausage and $12 for a mimosa). But wow — the biscuit with apple butter completely stole the show! Absolutely delicious and worth coming back for on its own.
Theresa — Google review
Despite the name of the restaurant, they close at 3p so we were happy to make it in time for a late lunch. Perhaps because it was 230p, the food was all served lukewarm vs hot, as in cooked to order. It mostly tasted fine but we like our food served hot. The shrimp and grits was ok flavor-wise but lukewarm which doesn’t work for me especially with gravy. The biscuit with sausage gravy was also lukewarm but the fried eggs were hot. The fried chicken was dry and maybe it was reheated but the bigger issue for us was too heavy handed on the pimento cheese which overwhelmed the taste buds. Not a fan of this dry chicken sandwich. The service is excellent so that gets the review an extra star.

SO GOOD! Amazing atmosphere and adorable patio, where we ate. The cocktails were unique and delicious, every staff member was so pleasant, and the food was phenomenal. Recommend getting a reservation, but we were able to get in early and snag a table before the dinner rush. All around amazing experience

The food here is always delicious and Michael was a great server. Our group had the Chicken Parmesan, a variety of pasta dishes, and desserts. The Caesar salad was large enough for our table of 6 to share. The wine list is good but predominantly old world wines. Our dining experience was wonderful, but lengthy, so just make sure you have a few hours. Also, highly recommend making a reservation.

If I could give 10 stars I would. We came to Charleston for our anniversary/babymoon and this restaurant was the top of our must do list. We had an early dinner reservation and were seated right away. We ordered the mint condition and salted grapefruit shrub (NA) to drink and received them immediately. It’s tough to find a really good mocktail but this one was spot on! For food, we knew from online reviews and social media exactly what we wanted to order and were so lucky to have received the last octopus carpaccio which was not only delicious, but beautifully plated as well. We also ordered the braised artichokes and warm rosemary focaccia for our appetizers and all three dishes were amazing. We’ve never had anything quite like the artichoke dish before, which my husband described as a deconstructed stuffed artichoke with bread crumbs. It was amazing on its own but also great when we dipped the focaccia. For our main entrees, we ordered the agnolotti (duck pasta) and the squid ink spaghetti (at our server’s suggestion). Both dishes were unbelievable; there are no words to adequately describe this culinary experience. The agnolotti melted in my mouth and the squid ink was such a bright and zesty dish. Thank goodness we ate light earlier in the day because we would have licked our plates clean if it weren’t frowned upon, the food was that good. Finally, the atmosphere and staff were so warm, friendly, and welcoming. They added to the overall experience we had. The venue itself is beautiful and the layout is untraditional but feels very open and roomy. The decor choices were beautiful as well. The staff were also a delight. We had Jacob as our server and he was nothing short of wonderful. When he learned it was our anniversary and we had checked out of our hotel and would be leaving Charleston straight from dinner without ordering dessert (we were stuffed and no room left), he had a tiramisu panna cotta wrapped up with plastic spoons for us to go! Joe, the maitre’d was also very friendly and checked in on us a couple of times during the meal as well as welcoming us in when we walked in. Sometimes it feels uncomfortable or intrusive when staff make small talk at the table, but with Joe, he felt like he could have been an old friend. We didn’t meet the chef or owner but when I complimented the chef and noted how impressed we were with our experience to Jacob, he even stated that Chef Mike is a great boss too. It’s so wonderful to hear when the boss treats his staff with respect, and I do believe that respect is reflected in the atmosphere the staff creates for the guests. It certainly showed for our experience at least. If we come through Charleston again, we will absolutely visit La Farfalle again!

Delicious food and great service. We enjoyed a secluded outdoor seating in a greenery, but be ready for the trees dropping debris on you 😊 It’s still beautiful outside, so we didn’t mind. Our server was amazing, she helped us pick the wine, the food, we couldn’t pick between two options and she was very patient and polite with us. The veal scallopini, and it was amazing, huge portions too. Our experience was great! It was a bit loud inside, so we picked an outside seating, the restaurant is huge to accommodate big parties and romantic dinners. They also offer military discounts!

If I could give more stats I absolutely would!!! We’ve been looking for a great Italian spot in Charleston and we’ve found it! After several less than great attempts (see other reviews) I’m ecstatic that waited the hour (because we didn’t make a reservation) because we will all definitely be back again. Food is amazing, service was excellent, and we ate everything. We’re likely be crawling out because of that, #noregrets

We were also touched that the chef provided us with a signed copy of the evening’s menu—such a thoughtful detail that added to the magic of the night. We are deeply grateful to the chef and his team for giving us the opportunity to experience their culinary artistry. Zero George is more than dinner—it is an unforgettable journey of food and hospitality.

We celebrated my 30th birthday here and had an incredible experience. The vegetarian menu was exquisite. Hands down the best dining experience I’ve had to date!

This is a lovely restaurant with thoughtful, creative dishes and wonderful staff. Come with an open mind and try everything. The bar serves outstanding craft cocktails. If you aren't sure how to eat a dish, just ask - the staff are happy to help. I would put this restaurant at the top of my Charleston list, you won't be disappointed.

If this restaurant doesn't get a Michelin star next week, I will be surprised and disappointed. The experience was fantastic despite my high expectations. Staff was engaging and welcoming. Servers were very helpful with descriptions and suggestions. And the Sommelier was knowledgeable. We enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu with elevated wine pairings. It was not a meal, but a pleasant journey. And contrary to the typical Michelin 4 hour dinner, the pace here at Zero was perfect, approx 2 hrs. Our table room was quiet and easy to converse. I would have liked something printed to take with me describing food/wine we enjoyed.

We returned to Zero George to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and once again, the team delivered an extraordinary experience. From the inventive fall cocktail menu (the shiitake martini is genius!) to the thoughtful attention paid by the staff to my octogenarian mother, every detail felt curated and intentional. The meal began with a series of stunning small bites — true edible art — and continued with beautifully composed courses. The wagyu cigar remains one of the most delightful amuse-bouches in the Southeast, and the red shrimp dish was a masterclass in unexpected flavor pairings. The halibut with persimmon was perfectly cooked, and the wagyu sirloin with porcini and chestnut was bold and decadent. My only regret was not adding on the A5 wagyu, as my son is still talking about it from our last visit! Desserts were just as creative, with the shortcake and its balsamic center standing out as a highlight. The service was as gracious as the food was exquisite, and the entire evening left my mother reminiscing about fine meals past — from Cyprus to Seoul to Barcelona. That’s the caliber of experience Zero George delivers. An absolute gem. We already can’t wait to return.
Alexia P — Google review
We did the cooking demonstration at Zero George and had a wonderful experience. Chef Vinson Petrillo is clearly passionate about food and creating an experience for guests. We really enjoyed watching his craft and most importantly the food was delicious. My only critique is that the portions were small and there were not 'wine pairings' you were just handed a bottle of wine. Other than that one very small critique we cannot wait to return to try the full course tasting menu at Zero George.
Taylor L — Google review
The ambiance is superb and my dinner was one of the best meals I have had. Sophisticated and chic with elegance of historical Charleston as the backdrop. The night I went was a set menu with drinks or mock tails. Believe me the mock tails were in some cases better than the set alcohol drinks. The executive chef is a master of his craft & I wish I lived closer so I could experience the food more often.

Definitely five star restaurant. Food is so good and service so attentive. It was rainy night, we had great time. Fixed menu, $145 each person, my ten year old daughter enjoyed it. She ordered herself caviar, it was good.

American restaurant
Basic Kitchen is a casual, health-conscious dining spot known for its farm-to-fork approach and use of seasonal, local ingredients. The menu features nourishing dishes made with local produce, whole grains, wild-caught seafood, and sustainably raised meat. The restaurant offers a rotating daily menu with simple, seasonal options for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Guests can enjoy mouth-watering vegan and vegetarian options such as Ms. Paula's Shrimp and curry bowl along with cauli wings.
My Fiance and I are from Indiana, and this was our first time visiting this restaurant. I have never been to a vegan restaurant. I never believed there were any decent options for someone like me. I was sooooo wrong. For a starter, we had the “Corn Ribs.” Afterwards I had the “Spinach & Feta Pita” with “sweet potato fries.” My Fiance had the “Chicken Dinner Bowl,” and the “Raspberry Basque Cheesecake” to finish it all off. I also had a very yummy glass of local kombucha. Every single food item we ordered was amazing! The atmosphere was very Hip and laid back and the service was excellent! I did not catch the name of the bartender that helped us, but he was perfect! (He had black hair and glasses.) He made some very tasty recommendations and was extremely friendly the entire time we were there. I am now very interested to see where their creativity takes their food, and we will be coming back to visit!

Vegan friendly food with some meat options. Worked well. We had a plant based person and two carnivores in our party. Service was really good! Everyone was very friendly! We called just a few minutes in advance they were able to accommodate us. The farmhouse platter was an excellent appetizer to have after walking downtown. We all enjoyed our food fine. The staff was very nice and polite

We were very happy with our visit to this restaurant. All the food was high-quality and healthy. It’s a great place to bring kids because you don’t have to worry about what they’ll eat. For anyone looking for a nutritious and satisfying meal, this is the perfect spot. We loved everything — 10 out of 10!

Great tasting food with fresh local ingredients. Everything was delicious, the big favorites were the carrots, the beet dip and the coconut chicken. Even the picky eaters in my family were pleased with the food here. I would recommend this place to everyone. Great staff, friendly and prompt.

very delicious! lovely environment and I loved the tableware—cute plates and bowls. the hand towels in the washroom were so soft too! great place with unique flavors that i really enjoyed trying. we got the farmer’s platter for our appetizer, i got the basic bowl (with addition of salmon) for my entree, and then we got the matcha basque cheesecake and chocolate tahini tart.

The best food, juices, cocktails! I’m a healthy eater and there are many options. It’s my 2nd time here over the years of visiting and it never disappoints. Our server, Chloe, was so awesome with her recommendations, fun spirit and attentiveness. The back patio was the spot!
Amanda S — Google review
We have dined here many times over the years and it’s always been a good experience. Several of our group are vegetarian and this restaurant has a number of offerings that make it easy for all dietary preferences. Good location, just a few steps from king street and there used to be easy parking at the city garage across the street but that garage is closed right now. Noise level is a little high when the restaurant is full but otherwise not a problem. Service is normally very good with knowledgeable staff. There is an outdoor covered patio for dining in pleasant weather. Prices are very reasonable for downtown charleston. Overall we give this restaurant 4 Google stars or 3.5 clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.

We love stopping in at Basic Kitchen anytime we’re in Charleston. The food is consistently delicious and they always have good local beers and interesting wines available. It’s a warm and lively atmosphere.

Soul food restaurant
Takeout Restaurant
Dave's Carry-Out is a local gem in Charleston, offering a variety of seafood and soul food classics for take-out. This corner dive is known for its deliciously fried dishes, including fried fish platters and Gullah Geechee staples like deviled crab, red rice, and hoppin john. The counter-serve space provides a nostalgic experience with friendly staff who might even call you 'Honey.'
Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious! I will be dreaming about the fried shrimp 😅 very fresh and tender. Hard working women producing simple but wonderful food for their neighborhood!
Jack — Google review
Sure! Here’s a polished and more engaging version of your review: Absolutely fantastic spot! The food was incredible—especially the fish, which was perfectly fried to golden, crispy perfection. The rice, surprisingly, ended up being one of the standout highlights of the meal. And the price? Unbeatable. It’s a refreshing change from the sometimes outrageous restaurant bills you find elsewhere. A perfect hidden gem worth every penny.

Dave’s is SLAMMIN’. Period. Seafood platter went crazy. Red rice. Atmosphere. People. One of the best meals I’ve ever had…
William O — Google review
This was delicious and the seafood was all so well prepared. Terry was also super welcoming and attentive for us to eat in. It is run by a single owner so that may affect the open hours.

CLOSED the two times I tried to come this week. I heard the food was amazing. They look abandoned. Worn out sun faded paper signs about being closed. Window shades drawn. No lights. No signs of life or really ever having been open. YES I’m at the right place. Yes, I came at lunch (12 noon). On a Tuesday and on a Friday. I tried to come later in the day as well. Both times during their window of being open. Bummer. A true bummer.

Wanted to hit this place up before leaving Charleston and so glad I did. It's truly nothing fancy about this place, but what matters most is that the food is fire. And fire it was! I ordered the Seafood Platter ($19.50), which came with fried shrimp & fish, scallops, and devil crab). It was all served up with fries and it was such a satisfying meal. The fish was perfectly fried and the shrimp was big! Never had devil crab before, but I liked it. It was crab cake-ish in terms of texture and taste, but wholly unique as well. This was a black-owned restaurant that I was excited to support and I can see why it's remained a popular spot in the city for good seafood.
Daviyion J — Google review
This place is good overall. Good food, fair prices, staff is nice. We got a seafood platter for $19.50: deep fried shrimps, scallops, fish and devil crab. And French fries off course)) everything was not bad, crispy, juicy, not oversalted. Didn't like crab, didn't understand what is it) so you can save $4 for that crab and order something different))

Coffee shop
Daps Breakfast & Imbibe is a casual and trendy neighborhood spot located in the Westside neighborhood of Charleston. It offers a variety of breakfast options such as hash browns, pancakes, and egg sandwiches along with coffee and cocktails. The establishment aims to provide a quality-driven space for individuals to grab food and drinks on the go or enjoy outdoor seating on the patio.
“If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot, let me tell you—Daps Breakfast Spot is where it’s at! I stopped by recently and had their breakfast burrito, and let me just say, it did not disappoint. Packed with all the good stuff, it was the perfect way to start the day. The atmosphere at Daps is just as great as the food—welcoming, laid-back, and a place you’ll want to keep coming back to. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-try. Highly recommend!”

At the moment, the hours are from 8 AM to 2 PM. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There are Uber eat pick up options for delivery. .Its a breakfast spot, pancakes, French toast, burritos and they also serve burgers. They had a unique pancake that was on the menu. It is made with a cereal that I grow up eating as a kid “Fruity pebbles” The pancakes are big.You don’t have to order a normal stack you could order one at a time and mix the different types they offer. I recommend eating it with a fork and knife.

Creative and off the beaten path. Highly recommend the mushroom toast (I was skeptical but it was really delicious) and Fruity Pebbles pancakes. Both were excellent!

Although they gor my order wrong. This is a cool little place. Pancakes are huge. Good coffee and service.

We visited Daps for the first time in a month or two to take my dad to brunch. Ranted and raved over how much we loved Daps and how great the food was. They were out of the brunch burger so we ordered some other egg sandwiches and a mushroom toast. We were so disappointed in all of our sandwiches. The eggs were so thick and dense. Truly an awful consistency. This was a far cry from the soft, fresh scrambled eggs they used to put on their sandwiches. At $14+ for an egg sandwich the shortcuts they are taking is stepping down the quality of their food. There is more than one way to scramble an egg and it feels you have picked the worst!
Wesley T — Google review
Breakfast was absolutely delicious! I ordered the breakfast turkey club and it was so good! I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu! The service was great too. The seating is limited inside so be prepared to sit outside. There is plenty of seating outside. They do have heated lamps so that was much appreciated.
Tamara — Google review
This was my first visit to this establishment. The first impression I had was a hipster type cafe with healthy or trendy selections. I opted for the breakfast plate with sausage ($2 upcharge) and herbed toast ($1 upcharge). The eggs were perfectly cooked (over medium) as well as the delicious hash browns. The herbed toast was wonderful, it had the taste of fried bread. I would recommend this place if you have time to search for parking on the narrow streets. By the way, selections are served on paper plates with plastic utensils.

Cocktail bar

Wine bar
Vintage Lounge is a swanky wine bar that opened in December 2017 and has been recognized as the most beautifully designed bar in South Carolina by Architectural Digest. The bar features a historic and Parisian-romantic ambiance with its original barrel ceiling and faded gold-leaf design. It offers an extensive selection of wines, including orange wines, Normandy cider, sparkling wines, and various European options.
Very nice place for an evening cocktail. Our bartender was pleasant and eager to share recommendations and was proud of his art. They also have an extensive wine list.
Judi H — Google review
Service was nice, quick because it was empty on a Monday. Said they’re more known for cocktails but there was a few twists on the classics, nothing too innovative or unique. I don’t quite get the architectural digest award because it was a very typical cocktail bar decor inside, minimalist almost. Tried the blind wine taste which was a fun gamble for a free glass. Wine was delicious and even guessing it wrong was still a $2-4 discount.
Taylor G — Google review
I’ve never had a good experience here. Came here tonight begrudgingly because my friends were here and not a single drink was correct. Specifically asked for a sparkling by the glass that was not champagne (because I didn’t want to pay $20 a glass) and was still served champagne. Then was told by the server I OK’d it because she showed me the bottle from afar and I said that’s good… my bad for assuming she knows what champagne is. My friends drinks took 25 mins and were still wrong. Owner came over to try and fix it but we had already paid, so he did nothing. Would not recommend

SO MUCH FUN!! Date night was amazing and it was all do to Billie, the red haired vixen. It was a random night, Billie ended up catering to a larger party than expected and MADE OUR NIGHT
Alexa F — Google review
This is long overdue, but my husband and I love this place so much we’ll just drop in when we’re in the area to say hello to Nathan!! The first time I went there I loved the vibes. It has a very intimate setting with impeccable style and then if you want to stay even later through the night-they know how to keep up with the rest of upper King Street in a tasteful way ;) Honestly hope one day they’ll move to Broad St or somewhere south of Calhoun because I think they’re too good for that area! Their charcuterie boards are amazing, wine is divine, cocktails spot on and I think their fun Porróns is their specialty. Their staff is so kind and we’ve developed great friendships with some who used to work their. Can’t count how many birthdays we’ve celebrated their, business vendor parties, sporting events (definitely visit during the Kentucky Derby for a bougie time!) Highly recommend this place and our favorite time to go used to be on a Friday around 8 or 9 to keep the night going or start it off! Love you Vintage Lounge!!

Pizza restaurant
Renzo Wood Fired Pizza is an upscale trattoria located in a historic Charleston storefront. It offers Neapolitan pizza, pasta, and an extensive wine list that features small, family-run estates and underrated regions. The menu changes frequently to incorporate local, seasonal ingredients and includes themed dinners and featured winemaker visits. Renzo is known for its Detroit-style wood-fired pizza and Italian-inspired cuisine. The restaurant also boasts an all-natural wine list curated by co-owner Nayda Freire.
Came for an early dinner with some friends before a show and was not disappointed. Located in a little pocket sort of near Hampton Park, expect to spend a minute circling the block to find parking. Renzo is unassuming but light and bright in a corner spot with tables and booths and a normal bar. We were early enough for unexpected Happy Hour specials (on a Saturday) and took full advantage - meatballs and discount cocktails. Meatballs were soft and moist and flavorful with 4 per order. Miso were better than the Roman (strong sauce with almost raw garlic) but we liked both. Drinks were all solid, from Happy Hour on. Get the guava-lychee drink. The rest of the menu is split into pizzas and not pizzas and we picked a few from both. The Caesar and most other dishes are perfectly portioned for one or to share amongst a table of four. We ended up having the Caesar, two “not pizzas”, the two orders of meatballs, and two pizzas and it was perfect for our group at a great price. Some dishes were a split like/don’t like (lemony potatoes & desserts), but as a whole we didn’t have a bad bite. A great spot for a little less than a la fancy pizza & pasta dinner, Renzo delivers.
Blake R — Google review
Neighborhood pizza spot you have to check out! Limited seating so make a reservation, have patience to wait or arrive early to snag some bar seats. Staff has been nothing but kind to us over the years whether we’re grabbing to go or dining in! Also, we've never had an experience here that was a "miss". 11/10 every time - service, food, environment, etc. Our favorites: their margarita pizza with a side of hot honey, lemon potatoes and blueberry budino. Parking recommendation: it’s downtown and on a street with limited parking, so find a spot in the neighborhood and enjoy the walk if able bodied, if not i’d recommend ubering or dropping your party member(s) off at the door.
Sarah — Google review
Super dope place we went to on a Saturday night. Staff were friendly and attentive. Unbeknownst to us we were there during happy hour. Got the miso, and Roman meatballs which were delish. We followed that up with a margarita pizza which was just perfect. Only negative is the parking but if you live in Charleston you know how to overcome and figure it out.
Paul F — Google review
Renzo is a sublime example on how to run a restaurant; from the exceptional quality food to the impeccable service. From the hostess, efficient servers, and the chefs who craft each pizza like it's their very last. Seriously, each of the pies they put out look like pieces of art. I cannot recommend them enough!
Trinity B — Google review
Renzo provided me with the BEST pizza I’ve ever had. Not just in Charleston, but from anywhere, ever. The flavor rollercoaster of the Mulberry Street pizza was a ride I didn’t want to end. So, I got another one to go. Also, they have homemade ranch. Excellent and attentive staff.
Maggie — Google review
So delicious! This is not your usual pizza joint, they make the most unusual combinations of flavors that no one else dares to do and you will be happy you tried it. If you really want, you can "make your own" but trust them, at least once. Their Korean fried chicken will make you forget it's an Italian restaurant and the Caesar even has nuts and sunflower seeds to make it special. They also have one of, if not the best and most creative bartenders in all of Charleston, try one of his specialty cocktails, but he'll also be more than happy to fix you your favorite classic as well. The menu is ever changing, so it's always a new experience!
Sharon R — Google review
The food was delicious! Hands down the best ranch dressing I've ever had. The caesar salad and the empanadas were great starters and we really enjoyed the Kevin McAllister pizza! Definitely would recommend

Renzo is the coziest neighborhood pizza joint. Quality of the food is so good. Great price for good pizza. Did I mention they have the best Ranch dressing? Do not sleep on a side of Ranch for your pizza. Trust me. This is coming from someone who doesn’t like ranch. Then their budino for dessert. SO good!!

Southern restaurant (US)
Hominy Grill is a popular and laid-back eatery in Charleston, known for serving up delicious Lowcountry classics. The restaurant is housed in a restored Charleston single house and has attracted famous personalities like Anthony Bourdain and Anthony Hopkins. The menu features iconic Southern dishes such as fried okra and sausage gravy, all prepared fresh with great care. While there may be a wait to get in, the homey atmosphere and delectable food make it worth it.
Everything was fabulous!! The nasty biscuit was to die for and the gravy was more like a pepper cheese taste. It was great! The green tomato BLT was tasty and perfectly balanced. The shrimp and grits was divine. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and with the salt from the bacon, it was by far one of the best dishes I’ve had in Charleston! Thank you!
C W — Google review
Couldn't skip a brunch at this institution while visiting Charleston! Southern home style, delicious, simple menu with great drinks. Not being a dessert gal, I did not care for the sweets tho they looked good. The shrimp and grits were fantastic, especially with fried green tomatoes on the side. Service was a bit slow, but this place packs up.. lot of people visit so plan your trip and hunger levels accordingly. Was too hot to sit outside but there is that options if you like. Since we were eating our way through Charleston, can't say this was the best spot; we had some spectacular grits, friend chicken elsewhere... so hence the 4 stars. We Ubered there but seems like there is some parking for those of you driving. All and all was a good brunch to grease the wheels before we went to our next stop to eat!! Go check it our for yourself, and enjoy it!

This was the only repeat restaurant that we ate at on our 3 day exploration of Charleston. We had such delicious meals the first time, and several more menu items that we wished to try, that we knew we had to return. Between the two of us, we tried the shrimp and grits, the bread pudding French toast, the fried pork belly grit bowl, the buckwheat pancakes with peach syrup, and the fried green tomatoes. Every item came in a satisfying portion and was made from high quality ingredients. My dad says that these were hands down some of the best shrimp and grits he’s ever had, and he has tried many throughout the Southern US. The service was pleasant and prompt for two midweek breakfasts. We were delighted with our overall experience at Hominy Grill.
Catherine P — Google review
Our favorite brunch place in Charleston! It was very homey, and food was amazing. The shrimp grit was good, and nashville hot chicken was good too but we would have liked it better if it came with any side. The hanktown omelette was different because it had oysters in it, and it was good balance of food. We definitely recommend getting something from the brunch special menus.
Sungeun A — Google review
Absolutely amazing food. Their signature dishes are well deserving of the hype, especially the Shrimp & Grits and the Charleston Nasty Biscuit which is a piece of fried chicken between a high biscuit smothered in some delicious gravy. And the service is what you expect in the South, kind, friendly, and very attentive!
Magna G — Google review
Yum! Could that be the whole review. We arrived right at 9 and no wait. Incredible staff and food hot and fast and delicious in 4 years I’ve never been able to get in here. Blessed this weekend. Yes the best shrimp and grits in Charleston
Nic R — Google review
Good experience albeit very busy. The best item for brunch was the BLT with fried green tomato. The chicken and waffle was good, but there wasn't enough of the sweet strawberry sauce. The chicken wasn't spicy, which was the declaration from the waiter. It was very busy for a Sunday brunch, which lead to longer waits at the table and a bit less attention to the basics like water or an additional beverage. It's a beehive here. Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz
