Greater Bendigo National Park is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Spanning over 17,000 hectares, this stunning park showcases a variety of landscapes, from lush woodlands to open grasslands teeming with native flora and fauna. Visitors can immerse themselves in the great outdoors while exploring numerous walking trails that wind through its picturesque scenery.
An outstanding place for wildlife photography - bird photography in particular. The mulga's are everywhere and in full flower at the moment, bees can be heard in large numbers and honeyeaters are prolific. Highly recommended if you're a bird photographer!
Rob S — Google review
The area is great for camping opportunities 👌 Prospecting for gold is convenient & the potential for a reasonable find is achievable 🤔 There are better gold fields than this one in Victoria 🤫
Darren M — Google review
Spending time in these forests is fantastic, the birdlife, animals and flora are amazing, you can never tire of being here.
David W — Google review
Big area, lots of different environs, heaps of historical gold diggings etc, plus you can still prospect much of it. Quintessential Australian Bush. You also free camp many areas.
Still L — Google review
Very diverse in bird species. You need to know your spots though.
Deepak K — Google review
A good place to walk or ride your mountain bike
Robert S — Google review
Wow were to begin describing this place/area. Well there are so many mountain bike tracks/trails you will need more than a week to explore them all. Same can be said about the walking tracks. There are so many beautiful places here. There is also massive amounts of 4x4 tracks to explore most are nothing difficult just good to drive. Two wheel drive vehicle's are not left out as there are plenty of two wheel drive tracks to explore. Use them to get yourself to walking tracks, mountain bike tracks or just a nice drive through the bush. If you plan to visit in the summer bring water.
Matt H — Google review
It is a great place to go for a leisurely ride on mountain bikes and not technical at all. Good for beginners and families. Some signposts could be improved or replaced .

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful, peaceful ambiance strolling amongst the magnificent canopy of trees. Beautiful fountains and gardens. Definitely a must on visiting Bendigo. ❤️

I recently visited Rosalind Park in Bendigo and was thoroughly impressed. This expansive 60-acre park offers lush greenery, historic trees, and beautifully landscaped gardens—perfect for relaxing with family and friends. Highlights include the Poppet Head Lookout Tower, which provides panoramic views of the city, and the Conservatory Gardens with its seasonal floral displays. The park also features a children’s playground, ornate statues, and a fernery, making it a versatile spot for all ages.
Ranjaka G — Google review
We walked through the park today just because we recognised the name on the map and wow! The trees in autumn are particularly beautiful! They look very old and there is even a great view of them at the top of the hill. It’s close to the main part of town, museums, war memorial, walking paths, a cool waterfall fountain and lots of native birds.
Jason T — Google review
🌸 Rosalind Park — Bendigo Rosalind Park is such a peaceful and charming spot right in the heart of Bendigo 🌿✨ The garden is filled with bright flowers blooming beautifully along the paths. I loved how calm and green everything felt, from the big shady trees to the small daisies by the walkway. It’s a perfect place for a slow walk, to take photos, or just sit and breathe for a while. The stone paths and little streams give it that classic, almost European garden vibe. It’s one of those parks that makes you feel like time slows down for a bit — simple, quiet, and full of life at the same time 🌼💚
Cindy J — Google review
Visited during the GLOW Bendigo Light Show, so only seen it during the cover of darkness. However, the artists and exhibitors really utilise the gigantic parkland space along with the paved path to connect all the art pieces together. A true gem for Bendigo.
Normandy J — Google review
Peaceful and relaxing stroll through Bendigo. The most surprising part of it is that giant fruit bats live on the trees by the hundreds. It is an amazing how many bats you will see hanging from the trees just sleeping so sound and peacefully. Lots of interesting spots for selfies and photos.
Lis C — Google review
Nice place for a relaxing walk, a few maintenance issues ie look out tower only viewable from level one and stream leading to fountain not working

Beautiful gardens any time of the year. Especially when the tulips festival is on! Just watch out for the flying fruit bats and their droppings!

Buda Historic Home & Garden is a captivating destination that offers visitors a fascinating journey back to the gold rush era. This historic residence, once home to a Hungarian silversmith and his family for over 120 years, showcases an impressive collection of art, jewelry, and period furnishings that reflect late nineteenth and early twentieth-century life in Australia.
It was a Victorian era home now converted into museum. Even though the entry fees was 12$ yet the overall experience especially the picturesque views from the garden made it all worth. The volunteer working there is very kind and helpful. I still remember her kind gesture towards me. If you want to dive in some history while enjoying the views that castlemaine offers this is the place to be .
Simran G — Google review
Really enjoyed learning about the fascinating creative Leviny family - former owners of this house; the home and the garden are very charming. I even saw some kangaroos grazing in the far part of the garden. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for sharing their knowledge of history with visitors and maintaining this place so well.
Anima S — Google review
Fantastic museum recording over a century of family and art history, with an absolutely stunning garden. Volunteers are helpful and informative and the museum is very well interpreted
Rachel T — Google review
I took a group of 20 to Buda where we enjoyed a lovely 2 course lunch and a tour of the magnificent gardens and homestead. What a brilliant experience we had learning from the volunteers about the historic meaning of the home and gardens. Definitely worth a visit!!
L J — Google review
Buda Historic Home and Garden, nestled in the heart of Castlemaine, Australia, is a captivating destination that transports visitors back to the Victorian era. Stepping onto the meticulously maintained grounds, one is immediately struck by the charm and tranquility that permeates the air. The centerpiece of Buda is the historic home itself, once the residence of the influential Leviny family. As you wander through its corridors and rooms, each meticulously preserved detail offers a glimpse into the lives of its former occupants. From period furnishings to family heirlooms, the house is a testament to Victorian elegance and refinement. Venturing outside, the lush gardens of Buda beckon exploration. Designed in the style of an English cottage garden, they boast a colorful array of flowers, fragrant herbs, and meandering pathways. Every turn reveals a new vista, inviting visitors to pause and soak in the beauty of their surroundings. One of the highlights of Buda is its rich cultural program, which includes guided tours, workshops, and events throughout the year. Whether you're interested in learning about traditional crafts or simply immersing yourself in the history of the region, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Overall, Buda Historic Home and Garden is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. Its serene atmosphere and well-preserved heritage make it a must-visit destination for anyone with an appreciation for the past. Whether you're a history buff, a gardening enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Buda offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you longing to return again and again.

Beautiful house, volunteer staff are very informative and helpful. They were having a live drawing session on the gardens, the models dressed up in their best vintage outfits. Wonderful history, recommended 👌
Tania H — Google review
Beautiful historic home in Castlemaine which is a small town north west of Melbourne. If you are into history and like period homes you will like this one. A beautiful garden surrounding the house which was my favourite. It was very quite and peaceful where the location of the house is. The house itself is not very big so it won’t take more than an hour or hour and half at lost to enjoy all of the property. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Castlemaine.
Cavin D — Google review
So amazing the family have left the house for the public to look through- its a gorgeous piece of history to Castlemaine. Some bedrooms locked which was a bummer but still, give yourself enough time to soak in the gardens too. Entry fee applies.

The One Tree Hill Lookout Tower, located in Spring Gully just south of Bendigo, offers a relaxing atmosphere with recent renovations and an open fire. Oscars Bistro at the One Tree Hill Hotel serves up classic pub dishes for lunch and dinner, while One Tree bar provides a trendy setting for enjoying a variety of drinks. The lookout tower offers sweeping views over the forest and Bendigo, making it a popular spot for picnics and birdwatching.
A nice picnic spot to visit in Bendigo. The walk is not too easy to uphill for about 3km to the tower. However there are stairs with great views at the top. Picnic facilities are provided there as well. Car entry is only from Edward Street as the Mandurang Road entry is closed.
Cyril F — Google review
The view is fantastic for being so local to Bendigo. Walking trails are nearby but signage and the trails are hard to follow. The trails are a shard space. Along the way we encountered horses 🐎 and motorcycles. All respectful and considerate. The terrain is quite rocky in places with washouts so good walking shoes a must.
Thomas W — Google review
Good lookout tower. Be careful on the drive here as a lot of people seem to walk and run in the middle of the road for some reason. Unfortunately there is some graffiti and damage around the tower from vandalism.
Luke — Google review
Without doubt the most magnificent single tree I've ever laid eyes upon. I'm not usually a fan of hills, as they're wickedly easy to fall down if you're balancing plates on your unicycle, but I'm a fan of this one. That tree, though, wow. It's got to be the largest single tree in the southern latitudes. Skip the souvenir shop as its a tourist trap. Instead, catch the monorail straight to the cubby house and watch the sunrise from the suspension bridge. 5 stars.
N L — Google review
A beautiful sunrise location, at the top of the stairs turn left to watch it come over the horizon. The sunset is slightly blocked by trees while facing the carpark and the city, but it's still an amazing view, especially when a storm front creeps over the mountains.
Harry C — Google review
You can ride your bike along trails right to the lookout tower It’s a good lookout over Bendigo and surrounding areas

If you're around the area this is a great lookout point to see the city and surrounds. Good view at night and during the day. Wildlife is common around here so drive carefully.

Old Tom Mine is a historical site located in the Box-Ironbark Forest, accessible from the Shadbolts Day Visitor area or Notley Camping area. The mine offers a glimpse into the Gold Rush days with its original reef mine, puddler, and water race. While it may feel isolated and desolate, it provides an opportunity to explore remnants of the past. The surrounding bush setting makes for a lovely picnic spot and offers areas for metal detecting.

Feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere And the mine it’s self is very short When we went there was an incredible amount of flys Looks cool And very deserty

Well if your into a bit of history and don't mind exploring it's worth the trip. Not a whole lot to see but there is a marked walk around the mine area. There is also some left over bits and bob's to be found. Google maps will take you pretty much to the site, the open cut area is north east from the tailings heap.

Great place to see a bit of our Goldfields history, lots of workings and detecting places for the detectorists. Lovely bush setting, excellent picnic area.

Bodies of Water
Lake Weeroona, often referred to as the jewel of Bendigo, is a picturesque spot that was once a mine in the 1850s. It was transformed into an 18-hectare lake in 1878 by the art director of Melbourne Botanic Gardens. The surrounding parkland features a shady path perfect for a leisurely 20-minute walk. Located just north of Bendigo's city center, it is also stop #4 on the Vintage Talking Tram route.
A perfect place to relax, walk or run around, step around the ducks, coffee at nearby Fox & Giraffe or lunch at The Bridge Hotel whilst staying at Quest Bendigo Central. Enjoyable all round.
Merry — Google review
The lake is quite nice, but nothing special. It’s well located in walking distance of the town and a stop on the Talking Tram Tour. There’s a cafe with a great lake view and we appreciated some of the different bird who live by the habitat, but it seemed a bit overhyped for me.
Jason T — Google review
Very nice lake. Good place to run. About 1.4km for a long loop. Shorter if you take the scenic boardwalk route.
Brendan M — Google review
Beauteous place for walking, playing, and picnic. Amazing views with great cafes around. The coffee van is also here in the car park, which is very good.
Mandy G — Google review
Went here for the Bendigo Sprint Rowing Regatta. Lovely spot. Bar and restaurant at one end overlooking the lake. Coffee and food vans. Lots of people walking around the lake.
Amanda P — Google review
A wonderful lake to walk around. This popular venue attracts dog walkers, bike riders, children, adults - just about anyone who enjoys relaxing in the great outdoors. After having a late breakfast nearby, we strolled around this very pleasant park, lake and gardens. The residents of Bendigo are indeed lucky to have such a terrific space to enjoy - as are the ducks, swans and other feathered creatures. Visitors to the city can easily see why this place is so popular. There is even a coffee van :-) Here are some photos of Lake Weeroona. Do yourself a favour and visit!
Leanne W — Google review
Lake Weeroona is beautiful. Love to come here on a Saturday and watch the rowing regattas, whilst walking around it. It has a great playground for the kids, a BBQ Pavilion and plenty of benches to sit, relax and enjoy. And if hungry or thirsty, The Boardwalk Cafe will satisfy both.

Bendigo Botanic Gardens, established in 1857, is a long-standing botanical garden that boasts a diverse array of indigenous flora. The award-winning play space within the gardens draws inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, offering imaginative play opportunities for children. The Secret Garden is a highlight, featuring hidden treasures like a mirror and child-sized mushroom table and chairs. Additionally, the Heritage Garden remains intact with shady trees and lawns surrounding a central billabong.
Incredible Space, a wonderful family pit stop or day out. We were surprised by the layout of the gardens, it is so much more than it looks like from the road. Wonderful shady playground and the fairy tree is something to behold.
Carolyn W — Google review
The newer part of the Botanical Gardens is stunningly designed. Such a joy to spend an afternoon meandering and discovering what is around the corner. Love the fresh use of australian flora. Please replace the naff suburban gardens of our most recent history with the beautiful native gardens; better for the soul and better for the creatures.
NR H — Google review
Bendigo Botanic Gardens offers a graceful mix of heritage beauty and forward-thinking landscape design. The original section, laid out in the 1850s, greets you with sweeping lawns, towering elms, and a tranquil billabong where ducks glide in lazy circles. Stone paths loop beneath deep shade, and discreet plaques add just enough historical context to make the trees feel like old friends rather than museum exhibits. Venture beyond the grand old specimens and you reach the Garden for the Future, a striking contrast full of textures and colour. Here drought-tolerant beds bristle with succulents and silver foliage, while steel pavilions cast patterned shadows across gravel paths. Even in peak summer the breeze funnels through, and the plant palette proves water-wise gardens can be vibrant rather than sparse. Families find their happy place at the Alice in Wonderland playground. Giant red-speckled mushrooms double as climbable sculptures, mirrors distort reflections for giggles, and a wide croquet lawn invites cartwheels as often as mock matches. Clean toilets, free electric barbecues, and plenty of benches mean you can easily turn a quick stroll into an unhurried afternoon. Level pathways keep the whole site welcoming for wheelchairs and prams, and clear signage points to drinking fountains and quiet picnic nooks. What lifts the gardens above the ordinary is how smoothly the old and new sit side by side. It feels as natural to rest under a century-old oak as it does to wander through cutting-edge planting schemes. Whether you want to sketch heritage trees, collect design ideas for a dry backyard, or simply let children run until they are pink-cheeked and happy, Bendigo Botanic Gardens delivers.
Le G — Google review

Maryam E — Google review
Well, I came to visit Bendigo from Melbourne. I was under the impression that this botanic garden is well developed similar to the others, but it still needs lots of work. Besides, they need to invest with different types of plants to make it more of a botanic garden. Having said that, there are a few toilet facilities, though they need renovations as some toilet seats are broken. BBQ and playground areas are ok.
Hayden — Google review
A lovely, although small botanic garden. Information labels at the base of many trees and shrubs need replacing as they are totally faded. Female toilets need upgrading! 😞

The area is known for its granite boulders and hiking trails, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. Very relaxing among the gum trees & feathered wildlife. Lots of open fireplaces & clean toilets plenty of paper

A short drive from Bendigo, Mount Alexander is known for it's granite boulders, hiking tracks and scenic views. A great place to get out into nature. Leanganook Campsite was where we parked for the day, heading off into the bush for a walk. A great camping spot for those inclined with toilets and running water. There is little signage and no looping tracks. The Dog Rocks are not far from here, offering large granite boulders with anchors already installed for bouldering enthusiasts.
Lena P — Google review
Nice open camp sites with plenty of room for 1 tent or many per site. Makes a big difference having flushing toilets too. Mt Alexander loop hike is a great walk with many boulder outcrops to play on. Will certainly be back.

Nice place to go bush walking, with lots of nice scenery and lookouts. Can take kids too (took my 5 y.o. and she enjoyed it). Lang's Lookout is a good place to start.
Kim J — Google review
Stayed at the camp ground for 3 nights. Can get busy. Fire pits on most sites. Lots of wood near the roads. Flushing Toilets. Dogs on leads. (Some don't think it applies to there dog.) Great walks too.
Alex D — Google review
I did the Dog Rocks Loop as I wanted a shorter walk. Really enjoyed the vibrant green. The views from halfway are quite nice and some big boulders along the way. Bumped into a few people photographing fungi and some people rock climbing. Overall was an enjoyable easy walk
Talia D — Google review
Views are good but track is hard, would not recommend for beginners. Though we hiked with 5& 8 years old girls, they did it one way only. Lots of fallen trees and rocks can take you bit out of track so, be careful to follow the arrows only as there were not many people doing it, we felt kind of alone in the bush. Must go place for adventure seekers. Look for the signs to start the track and just park at the side.
Arvinder K — Google review
My partner and I recently went camping here the view was amazing for where we found a camp stop the only thing was we got so cold being up high on the hill it dropped down to 2°c but it was a nice spot plenty of camp areas we even took our dog :).

Young explorers can enjoy an array of activities, from swinging and sliding to spinning in a butterfly-themed junior zone known as Where Angels Play.
This award winning playspace is well worth a visit. Situated on the banks of Lake Neangar in Eaglehawk, is this well maintained and comprehensive playground for the young and the young at heart. The play equipment includes a variety activities that involve everything from swinging, sliding and spinning. There is even a zipline for the more adventurous. This well landscaped area has undercover BBQ facilities with tables and seats. You can even fish in the lake, so think about bringing your rod. Highly recommended!

New residents to Eaglehawk, and love the family-friendly lifestyle this place has to offer! This little park is a gem and is right next to the lake, which has a great walking track. On the opposite side of the lake is a skate park and connects you to the beautiful gardens where a lot of communal events take place. There are toilets, gym and swimming pools too. The play space has a lot of parking, but this spot packs out during warmer seasons, but the small fenced-in placyspace has mature trees that shade the majority of this area. There is a waterway with small peddled stream for little ones to enjoy, a sandpit and table that could easily hold 20 little ones, a musical organ, a hut, table and chairs, swings and two small 🛝 slides (but check on hot day as they can heat up from the sun) this playspace is connected to the larger play park which is great for older children and has a covered in communal bbq area. We love bringing our grandson to this place. Also recommend grabbing a coffee from Skip the infamous Kiwi coffee spot 👌 or head to the local footy field on the other side of the park. This place is perfect for a family day out or good spot to meet up with friends who have little ones

Absolutely a lovely place to visit with the family. There is plenty of playground equipment for the kids, BBQs, public toilets not far, and a beautiful lake with a walking path around it. The place must be great as it was super busy. Highly recommend if you have kids.

Located lakeside is one enjoyable park for young kids... Has coaster, slide with big tunnel, flying foxes, swings, round and rounds and separate play space for small kids... Partly shaded playground... Road side carpark... Bbq with shades.. small picnic area... Water station .. Toilet is a bit off the track when we went but was not maintained too ..

So many great play options for kids and a nice path to walk/ride along. Spot Mulga Bill upside down in the lake!

Great parkland and relaxing family plays pace. There are usually a couple of accessible food vans and eaglehawk main street is not far for take away food.
Cathy W — Google review
Awesome park for the kids. My girls love it and have been going for years. Great location also being right on the lake.
Dean H — Google review
A great play space and bbq area that is let down by very poor toilet facilities. There are 2 stalls for a very large playground, bbq areas and walking track. As well as the quantity they were dirty with leaking taps, filthy floors, broken locks. The taps were push timers, great for saving water. Except the pressure was so high it splashed everywhere and only lasted 2 seconds. Far less pressure and longer time would make a huge difference to water wastage and how much water is all over the floor. As a single adult with several children, as the facilities were so far from the bbq and playground, I had to pack everything and everyone up to go to the toilet. A great facility badly let down by extremely poor amenities.

Palling Bros Brewery is a small brewery located in Heathcote. They handcraft artisan beer that you can enjoy in their large, dog-friendly undercover areas. The atmosphere is relaxing and nice, the food is delicious, and the cappuccino is top-notch. The staff are friendly and great at customer service. Definitely check them out if you're in the area!
We came here for dinner after a long and beautiful hike. We were fortunate to arrive before the kitchen closed and decided to order their cheeseburger. We were also happy to see that they have New England IPA (NEIPA), which paired perfectly with the burger. The burger was juicy, and the portion of fries was just right, all enjoyed from a spot with a lovely view overlooking the city. We definitely want to return the next time we are in Heathcote. The service was super friendly, quick, and felt like home.

Nice place to sit down. Little corner playground for the kids. Service bit slow wait for food for quite sometimes. Taste ok only for the burger but nice for the beer 🍺 All the 5 beers tried all tasted good

What a great spot. Food was delicious and the drinks were cold. Happened to be a quiz on the evening we went so stayed for that. Would def recommend. Kid friendly too
Rachael T — Google review
50 minute wait for a meal. No explanation until we asked at the 40 minute mark. Happy to take our money and just waiting for more people to come and batch cook everything. People who came well after us got served first. Made our child wait for a simple fish and chip meal that’s literally two pieces of fish and just chips. Extremely poor service - take your hard earned money elsewhere where it’s appreciated.

An absolute must. DON’T DRIVE PAST! Wish this was my local. Great rustic industrial vibe, DOG & KID friendly outside area undercover. Excellent beers, and the food was delicious. I had the vegan version of the tacos which were served with home made everything, pickled onions, zesty pesto and a curried chickpea filling. The boys had a vegan burger and a chicken burger and the cauliflower and hazelnut salad just amazing. Now for the drinks. Wow, what a fantastic selection of award winning brews and the Berried Treasure Sour was off the charts good! Service so so friendly and Owner Peter was more than happy to chat about his beers!
Tanina O — Google review
The view from the canola field was stunning, and the food was actually delicious. Unfortunately, our whole mood was ruined by the staff’s attitude. Instead of simply explaining our questions politely, the staff chose to respond with sarcasm and harsh looks. It completely killed the vibe and even our appetite. Good food can’t make up for a service experience that feels disrespectful.
Rifki — Google review
Sun lunch, great selection of tap beers, good friendly service, loved the German sausage dog Cheers
Ken Y — Google review
Food is awful. The rib was rupulsive, pulled pork burger was gross, chips soggy. Outdoor area has so much potential - but feels like a prison yard. Such a shame. Selection of beers were good though - would strongly suggest yall change the menu and keep it simple if meat has to be frozen to keep up with demand. No shame in having nachos, cheese boards and toasted sandwiches at a brewery. Cheap and don’t require a freezer or a microwave.

To be honest there isn't a lot to see or do. A historical POW camp with a few ruins, an old cemetery with minimal markers, but lots of history. The overgrowth has covered the history but there are tracks around the area to explore. I love the historic value of what was once a thriving town.

Embark on a journey along the Bendigo Creek Trail, where you can marvel at the vital function of waterways in offering refuge to wildlife and connecting different parts of the environment. While signage is generally good, navigating through urban areas may be a bit perplexing. The trail offers an enjoyable cycling experience, allowing riders to traverse through sections where the creek has been transformed into a stormwater drain. Additionally, cyclists can appreciate commissioned artworks along certain segments, adding a refreshing touch to the ride.
Fairly well sign posted though in some places it gets confusing around the city. It’s a good track to cycle on and interesting to cycle in the “creek” which has been relegated to a storm water drain. The commissioned artwork along a short stretch made the ride refreshing.

Highly recommend lessons with Chelsea, she was amazing. She was brilliant with my 7 yo granddaughter in teaching her the basics of rollerskating. They were free, all part of the experience, and she was so easy to speak with. I'm just so grateful for her assistance. We're coming back Thursday. We came back Thursday and seriously, Chelsea needs a raise. She went beyond, and my granddaughter loves her. She helped many children to gain confidence and as far as I'm concerned, she's worth her weight in gold. Definite recommend.

Myself and my partner went roller skating on a Saturday night for the 6:30-9pm session. It was a fun date night but the whole place was very quiet for a Saturday night. The pricing for a skating session was super reasonable. Although we didn't eat I did have a look at the food/cafe menu and there was a lot to choose from. I just think there could be a little more variety in the music and the whole place could do with an upgrade as it feels a bit dated. Overall it was a good night though.

This has to be one of the better fun parks I have been to. Very happy and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a family race around the go kart track and it was great fun. Everything worked well and the carts were well maintained. We are looking forward to going again. The roller skating was very big and in great condition. The hire roller skates were very good condition. The roller skates were more worn out but still comfortable. The hot food was made fresh and was good quality.

Great play area for kids, good equipment and safely gated. Some good shade from big trees on the side. Nice lakeside view. Appreciate the coffee truck next to it and there is convenience of public toilet too. Downside is that it's a little crowded (went on a sunny summer day).

Wide open space playground with options for many ages. Water play, jungle gym, exploration section and also a little one play area. BBQ’s under canopy, food trucks usually parked in the parking lot and plentiful areas to go walking and exploring. Kids will love the large slide, climbing pyramid and the water play area on those hot summer days. A couple of large trees provide some shady areas but mostly sun for all sitting on a bench watching their kids. The new park replaced a pretty good old park that encouraged exploring on their own. This is one of my first stops at Bendigo and I’m amazed by this place. As someone who loves history, art and cultural traditions, I was blown away by the ornate dragons used for Chinese Lunar New Year as well as for Easter Celebrations. The outside temple, gardens and monuments are only an entree to the amazing pieces of living history of the Chinese culture that has managed to persist in Australia during the Gold Rush era. I loved the designs of each dragon especially the big one Dai Gum Loong, the festival banners and the Buddhist symbols of each of these exhibits. Also, worth mentioning that Steph did an excellent job in explaining about the history of each dragon, the place itself and her endeavours in trying to answer my long-winding questions.

Gardens
Queen Victoria Gardens, located just off St. Kilda Road, offer a picturesque and easily accessible escape into nature. Unlike the nearby Royal Botanic Gardens, this ornamental garden features open spaces, ponds, sculptures, and statues that create a perfect setting for a leisurely picnic. The gardens are part of the Domain Parklands and serve as a memorial to Queen Victoria. One of its most famous attractions is the large floral clock adorned with over 7,000 flowers that are changed twice yearly.
Queen Victoria Gardens is a beautiful and well-maintained green space, perfect for relaxation. Located near a train station, it’s easily accessible. The gardens feature mature trees, vibrant flower beds, and sculptures, offering a peaceful retreat in the city.
Payman — Google review
This is a nearly 5 hectare public park and garden and part of the Green Lung of parks south of the Yarra River and to the east of St Kilda Road. It is positioned just south of the Alexandra Garden and north of the Kings Domain. The park is nicely laid out with charming walking paths, nice landscaping, tall mature trees providing shade and oriental ponds, providing tranquil and calm places to read a book or just sit in peace. The gardens also have a fair number of monuments including large scale memorials to Queen Victoria & King Edward VII, where you also find the famous Floral Clock and a rotunda dedicated to Lady Janet Clarke. You'll also find other several smaller monuments scattered throughout the Gardens including those around and in the ornamental ponds such as frog and water nymph and the more contemporary sculptures in the open lawns including such as Pathfinder and Genie amongst others.

A peaceful green space right in the heart of Melbourne. Wide lawns, beautiful seasonal flowers, and sculptures make it perfect for a slow walk or a quiet picnic. The gardens are well kept and easy to reach — a lovely spot to pause and enjoy nature. #genastar

Peaceful and Picturesque – Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne Queen Victoria Gardens is one of Melbourne’s most beautiful and relaxing green spaces. Located just across from the Arts Centre and close to the Yarra River, it offers a perfect escape from the busy city streets. The moment you step into the gardens, you're surrounded by lush lawns, colourful flower beds, and beautifully landscaped paths that invite you to slow down and enjoy the serenity. I found it to be a perfect spot for a peaceful walk, reading a book, or simply unwinding under the shade of the trees. The gardens are particularly stunning in spring and summer when the flowers are in full bloom, adding vibrant colour and a pleasant fragrance to the air. Its proximity to the river makes it a great stop during a walk along the Yarra or while exploring Melbourne’s cultural precinct. The famous Floral Clock and elegant statues throughout the gardens add a touch of charm and history. Whether you're a local looking for a quiet place to relax or a visitor exploring the city, Queen Victoria Gardens offers a tranquil and scenic experience right in the heart of Melbourne.

It’s a clean beautiful garden with benches for tired feet as well. There were many beds of tulips and other colourful flowers. A small pond with about a dozen ducks was a huge magnet for children, as they swam and dive into the pond.

Nestled just east of Bendigo's CBD, the Kennington Reservoir is a delightful oasis for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This charming spot offers BBQ facilities and fishing platforms where you can try your hand at catching redfin or rainbow trout. Adjacent to the reservoir lies the Grassy Flat Bushland Reserve, a picturesque area teeming with wildlife and indigenous flora, perfect for leisurely strolls with your furry friend (on leash).

Fantastic course (a bit hilly), and plenty of friendly marshals so you don't get lost.
Tess C — Google review
A lovely area of natural native bushland that's nestled between houses and not-so-busy roads. It's relatively small, however, it feels good, and birds happily sing amongst the trees. There are winding paths and several streams to explore, which make it feel much larger. The streams come from the overflow of the reservoir and, in places, there are rocky causeways that are great for crossing over to other meandering paths. Some of the paths are covered with bitumen whilst others are natural earth. I really liked having that choice! Several paths open out onto the lake area of the reservoir, where there is a well-placed toilet block. From there, you can take the path alongside the water or choose another path back into the trees. There's also plenty of parking on the roads alongside the reservoir areas.

I enjoy walking around the lake. The path is clean and there is also a gas BBQ provided. There are also toilets. The nature walk is pretty too.

What a great water park and for free! The water is a bit cold for the little ones apart from that what great place to chill and have some fun with the kids .

Great place for kids and family It will be good if people use the space with respect and consideration towards others and not leaving broken glasses all over as its dangerous for everyone and especially for kids who come to play. The grassland area nearby is full of rubbish and toilet is not usable at all. Its a shame as a lot of family with young children use the park and play area

Great place to cool off plenty of seating, too. Easy walk across the field to go get an ice cream from the servo. Very family friendly low cost option.
Jeff 3 — Google review
My recent visit to Long Gully Splash Park was a nightmare. While the park itself is okay, the reckless behavior of some parents was appalling. My two-year-old son was playing when a child on a bike, ridden by an older child, ran over his toe, resulting in half his toenail being ripped off. The pain and distress this caused are immeasurable. Instead of apologizing, the parents became aggressive, verbally attacking me and claiming this dangerous biking is normal there, even though the park rules clearly prohibit bikes and scooters. Their dismissive and disrespectful attitude was disgusting. This incident shows a serious safety issue, irresponsible parenting, and a complete disregard for the park's rules.
Assel M — Google review
Great place to take the kids on a hot day and you don't have to pay anything which is a bonus also has a bbq area with plenty of seating
Adrian U — Google review
It really is a great little place. There are BBQs, great shade over the splash park and us quite big for what it is really. The fact it is free is utterly amazing. There is also a play area out of the water, slide and large rope jungle gym to climb around in. It was clean and the upkeep on the park is well maintained. There's a cricket field next to it, so bigger kids can kick a footy or play some cricket. There's also outdoor bike exercise equipment. There are also public toilets and smoke parking So really, there's something for the entire family. A great day could be spent here for birthdays, lunches or just to cool down.

The Kangaroo Flat Botanical Gardens is a large, well-maintained park that is home to many unusual and beautiful plants. The gardens are full of trees, flowers, and bushes that are native to Australia. There is also a pond with kangaroos living in it, as well as a petting zoo.
A nice place to stop. On the surface, the Kangaroo Flat Native Reserve and Botanic Gardens seems more reserve than botanic gardens. However, in saying that it is a very nice place to stop and have a wander, bbq or just to have a break from your travel. Facilities are close by and there are tables and chairs undercover or out in the open. A little open stream runs through the gardens down to a small lake.
Greg H — Google review
A very nice little park which has an undercover BBQ area and seats. Toilets are nearby and we're clean.
JodieAnne K — Google review
Calling it a Botanic Garden is a bit of a stretch. A nice enough park with a mix of open space and good shade, large covered BBQ area, tables, taps and and toilets in a quiet spot behind the KFlat shopping strip.
WahWah W — Google review
Great little spot for a picnic, and far enough away from the busy roads. Kids have plenty of space to kick the footy and run around. BBQ and drink tap facilities
Wayne B — Google review
Native Botanical Gardens is obviously local council speak for run-of-the-mill bushland typical for Bendigo area but also includes sheltered BBQ area (east end of Camp Street) with seating for over 20 people & public toilets (Station Street entrance) 200 metres from picnic/BBQ area. About half an acre of well kept grassland in the same part of these "Gardens". A dog park is located on the east side of the railway line on the corner of Allingham & Chapel Street. It is accessible from the main part of the "Gardens" by following a pedestrian pathway south then beside a creek under a railway bridge. This east side of the rail line also has a children's playground. This is on Allingham street near the Muir Street corner. Depending on what sign you read this area of bush is variously call "Kangaroo Flat Native & Botanical Gardens" or "Kangaroo Flat Native Botanical Gardens" or simply "Kangaroo Flat Native Botanic Gardens". I guess one of the above is probably correct. Anyway at this time of year (early December) there are hundreds of Monarch butterflies in the tree areas. Strangely the Harcourt Oak Forest (often referred to as the "Magic Oak Forest") 30 minutes drive away at the foot of Mount Alexander has thousands of Monarch butterflies, not hundreds, at a different time of year (mid May to mid June) & is incredible walking through a mass of butterflies with every step.
Bwucey B — Google review
Very sad area (has been for years) regardless of drought etc. Big undercover BBQ area OK, toilets are about 200mtrs from BBQ (didn't use). Plenty of parking and shade. No playground etc. As with most amalgamated councils the attention is given to CBD.
Dianne A — Google review
What garden? No flowers and such, looked like an average picnic place. There was a nice little pond with ducks and geese, and an undercover area... But that is still a park thing, not a botanical gardens thing. We were very disappointed, as we had hoped it would be like the Bendigo Botanical Gardens.
Joanna D — Google review
Walk here everyday. It is good for a walk with the kids and dogs, but by no means is maintained for the amount of people that use it. Would be great If council could fund it a bit more and make it something that it easily could be.

Rotary Gateway Park is a charming little park located next to the main highway, offering picnic and BBQ facilities, as well as a toilet block. Meal is great and really appreciated , but would be nice to have some salad for a change maybe in place of some veggies. Especially in this hot weather. Waiting outside in the heat would be better if there were some seating front of the building and if we could again sit in front foyer where it easier for people like myself can't stand for periods of time with bad legs. Also the carpark really needs more disability parking next to the Rotary club room. Hoping you take these suggestions not just from myself but also from some of the other attending patrons .
