The Beach of La Concha is a bustling, sandy, shell-shaped beach located on the Bay of La Concha in San Sebastian. It is considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe and among the best in the Basque Country. The elegant modernist promenade stretches for over a kilometer and ends at the Palacio de Mirar, featuring white railings and numerous large lampposts.
Fantastic Beach in Town Centre This is a great beach, it is very wide and shallow at the beginning but you get depth quite fast and you can swim very far out. The beach itself is really nice and has all the necessary amenities. What I also like a lot is that you can go to restaurants, shops etc very easily. Last but not least the view is also amazing!
Paul V — Google review
I loved the size of the beach. Despite the crowds, it never felt overcrowded. If you enjoy proper swimming, you can swim long distances across the width of the beach. There are also several good restaurants within walking distance. Plus, there’s convenient access to public restrooms. I would definitely recommend it.
Jens M — Google review
Beautiful beach. Mostly always well kept. Even if you don't like sand is very nice to stroll along just about any time of day.
Robin R — Google review
Fantastic city beach with safe swimming water. There is an arched promenade allowing for shade if needed with young children.
John D — Google review
One cannot come to San. Sebastian and not come to the beach. For goodness sake, this is the paradise part of SS. Full of people but ALWAYS enough space for everyone. Amazing and a must come for the sunshine!
Pecston G — Google review
Very beautiful in picture beach in the centre of Saint Sebastian. I really love my visit to the spot. Lots of people enjoying the weather and the scenic view. Around the beach area, there is plenty to see, including tourist attractions and spots to enjoy refreshments and food.
Carl C — Google review
Great walk around the bay and a lovely beach. Some great sand sculptures at the far end.
Linda — Google review
As far as I can tell it is no less than the most beautiful city beach or bay in Europe. Of course you have to be lucky with the weather, as on hot days it feels like the whole city is digging through the sand. The huge dimensions only become clear on a walk or a drive up one of the two hills (Monte Igueldo or Urgull). It is a little unusual that there is so little catering right on the promenade.

Urgull is a tree-covered hill in San Sebastian, offering historic military structures, a museum, and stunning panoramic views of the ocean and city. The city boasts two urban beaches, Zurriola and Ondarreta, with the option to take a scenic stroll along Paseo Nuevo around Monte Urgull. The coast features La Concha bay and lush green hills like Montes Igueldo, Urgull, Ulia, Pasaia, and Adarra.
A nice hike with beautiful views of the city and ocean. Saw many birds around with colorful feathers. I enjoyed walking around the fort and soaking in the scenery and seeing some history like the canons and jail cells. There were many place to sit along the way up. Recommend for a nice walk and little exercise.
Alexandra A — Google review
For fabulous views of San Sebastián it’s well worth the climb to the top. Steep steps in places or more windy route available. Make sure you take water with you, there’s nowhere to drink at the top but there is a very good bar half way up and worth a stop.
Linda — Google review
If you take the view alone as a yardstick it cannot quite compete with its counterpart on the other side of the bay (Monte Igueldo), but Urgull can be explored in a relaxed and peaceful manner. Fortunately there is no cable car but there are some nice hiking trails, the small castle is well preserved and if you didn't already have the impression of looking at a miniature version of Rio, the statue of Christ confirms this effect.
Martin K — Google review
Located in San Sebastián, Mount Urgull offers stunning views of the city and coastline, with paths for all fitness levels. The hike is filled with historical sites, with the most widely known as the statue of Christ. The greenery and vibrant gardens make it perfect for a stroll or picnic. Whether you're into hiking, history, or just enjoying nature, Mount Urgull is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
Ellie ( — Google review
A nice walk up, with multiple spots to see the views but also some historical monuments and remains. Get yourself lost in this beautiful walk to the top and go to the castle-museum (free)!
Maëleen R — Google review
Worth the climb. Great view of the lovley San Sebastian.
Jon H — Google review
Mount Urgull offers an amazing vantage point to get closer to the Jesus statue whilst connecting with nature and history. The walk up is quite steep but the view is worth it. Along the path are a dozen or so signposted pitstops offering a snapshot of this sight's historical relevance. At the top there's a castle with museum accessed by staggered entry times. There's two entry points to the park allowing walkers to create a psuedo loop.
Donna M — Google review
Fascinating little hill and old battlementsl with a labyrinth of interconnected paths that lead you up to monument over looking the city. Its not overly taxing as the routes are not very steep and have been designed to suit a range of fitness levels. You need a ticket to get into view the monument and should be booked in advance(tickets are free). Its an awesome 2 hours well spent and offers spectacular view of the city promenade and bay area

Museums
The San Telmo Museum, situated in the heart of Donostia-San Sebastian's Old Town, is a captivating venue that showcases the rich tapestry of Basque culture and history. Housed in a renovated 16th century Dominican convent with modern interventions, this museum offers an intriguing blend of historical architecture and contemporary design. Visitors can explore a diverse collection encompassing Basque ethnography, art, photography, and global archaeological discoveries.
San Telmo museum is located at the old town and right at the foot of Mt. Urgull. The old part of the museum is housed in a 16th-century Dominican convent and the main entrance is the modern part and also used it for special exhibition. If you want to know more about the Basque culture and history , then this is the right place. It has a bit of everything. Paintings , archaeology , special history sessions for the last hundreds year. Interesting display of large scale murals from Josep Maria Sert.
Simon L — Google review
Better than expected with some great displays and some a bit baffling. A big variety and an important insight into the history of the Basque people and culture. Perfect for a rainy day. Wish we'd booked a tour in English to get more out of the experience. It was free the day we visited. We would have not visited for €10 each as there was not enough information for non Spanish speakers. It is tiring to translate.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Such a cool museum! It was a great way to learn about Basque culture, and I was impressed to find a large collections of art as well as many informative exhibits about Basque history. The building itself is incredible! Plus they had an awesome temporary exhibit about flora and textiles.
Hailey B — Google review
Very interesting museum, was glad to learn more about the history of the Basque Country in the context of the Spanish Civil War. The old church is outstanding! However I think the history had a clear left wing bias in terms of cultural/political changes in more modern times, and should be more neutral.
Karl F — Google review
San Telmo is like stepping into a living storybook of Basque culture! The moment you walk through that stunning 16th-century convent, you’re hit with this incredible blend of ancient vibes and modern flair. Those massive Sert murals in the old church? Jaw-dropping. I spent hours soaking in the history, from prehistoric artifacts to sleek modern designs, and still felt like I barely scratched the surface. A quirky tidbit: the museum’s new wing is covered in 3,500 recycled aluminum sheets with moss growing through them, blending right into Monte Urgull like it’s part of the mountain! Tickets are €6, but go on a Tuesday for free entry just get there early to avoid the crowd. Bring a phone for the audio guide; not everything’s in English, and it really brings the exhibits to life. Don’t skip the Zazpi café for a quick pintxo break it’s a gem
Arthur V — Google review
A good introduction into the history of the Basque country. The museum is a good balance between history, culture and art. The chapel is a "must see" in the city. A good value for money alternative in the city, particularly for families, since people under 25yrs enter free.
Jorge P — Google review
We went on a Tuesday, the locals recommended us since it is free on Tuesdays. It was amazing, even if we had to pay, it would have been so worth it! They have a lot of information, you travel through time from the beginning till modern days, there are a lot of videos and mini films for each station, a lot of interactive stations as well. Not the typical boring museum, it is filled with stories, truly exciting! I would recommend it to anyone staying at Donostia! Must-visit place!
Anna K — Google review
Really interesting museum, both the building and the exhibitions. Not very crowded which gives you plenty of time to check the exhibits.

Santa Clara Island is a small, picturesque island located in La Concha Bay, just 500 meters from the coastline of San Sebastian. Accessible by boat, kayak, or swimming, this five-hectare crag offers a serene escape with its tiny beach and nineteenth-century lighthouse. The island also features a bar with a terrace and a natural swimming pool. Santa Clara Island is known for its iconic setting between Urgull and Igueldo hills and is an ideal spot for birdwatching.

The Donostia-San Sebastian Aquarium, also known as the Aquarium-Palacio del Mar, is a popular seaside attraction located at the end of the port. Established in 1928, it is not only an aquarium but also a maritime museum that provides educational insights into local fishing and naval history. The aquarium features a large oceanarium with an impressive shark tunnel offering 360-degree views for visitors to walk underwater and observe marine species up close.
We had a great visit here with the kids, the staff and displays are multilingual which makes it really accessible for all. I love that there is a maritime museum section at the start with local history and even pirate sections. The aquarium is a good size with lots of variation, enough to keep the kids engaged for at least an hour. The gift shop was good not too overpriced and the staff are friendly. All in all it is well worth adding this as a detour if visiting the local area, I will say we went for opening, by the time we finished there were big queues. Buying tickets in advance won't help as you still have to join the queue to validate them. So to avoid disappointment I would recommend getting in early.
James D — Google review
I haven’t gone to an aquarium in forever— and this place makes me want to visit my local ones again. The sharks repeatedly swam over the tunnel they have here, allowing us the get a close up view of their fins, teeth, gills, and eyes! It was so cool. Definitely recommend visiting.
Smarty P — Google review
⸻ The Aquarium in San Sebastián is well worth a visit, especially if you’re with kids. The exhibits are informative and well laid out, with a mix of history and marine life. The highlight is the glass tunnel where fish and sharks swim around you, which keeps both children and adults impressed. It’s not a huge aquarium, but it’s well maintained and easy to walk through in about 1–2 hours. Ticket prices are fair for what you get, and the location by the harbor makes it convenient to include in a day of exploring the city.
M S — Google review
The Aquarium and overall museum are out of this world. So informative and so much more than the Aquarium. A spectacular nautical museum. A must for young and old in San Sebastian.
Patsy F — Google review
Fantastic place, essentially the naval museum on the top two floors with model boats, history, etc. then natural marine wildlife, and down into two floors of aquarium. Very well done, very informative, and finishes with a pair of axolotl and a gift shop. Fantastic experience all around!
ACE B — Google review
great aquarium from someone who loves sea animals, and a lot of history about fishing and ancient history it was great, although for me who is autistic I did get a bit overwhelmed by the people and had to put on music for myself. So if you have a child with any difficulties please prep beforehand
Malia C — Google review
A fabulous museum and aquarium. Lots of interesting exhibits for all ages, wonderful tanks and friendly staff. It was just perfect for a rainy day and so much more than we expected. One of our favourite places in Donostia and we'd go again. Don't miss it.

Loved the downstairs floor with the aquariums and wide variety of fish but not sure the upstairs navel history, guns and pirates works for me. €14 for an adult ticket.

Zurriola beach in Donostia/San Sebastian is renowned as one of the top urban surfing spots in Europe. The neighborhood of Gros and the entire city are heavily influenced by the sport, with over 100 companies dedicated to surfing. Visitors can easily find opportunities for surfing courses and experiences throughout the year, as well as shops offering rental equipment. The area is a hub for experienced surfers who view surfing not just as a sport but also as a lifestyle.
It’s a beautiful beach at the end of San Sebastián. There’s plenty of space for a large crowd, and it’s great to watch the surfers there!
Tom — Google review
Perfect little surf beach in San Sebastián. We rented boards and wetsuits from Hawaii Donostia and my daughter caught her first wave all the wave in. There’s plenty of space for different levels of surfing and the beach is so clean and pretty
Justin H — Google review
Stretching about 800 meters, the beach is a popular hotspot for surfers and younger crowds. It’s known for its energetic water sports scene combined with the laid-back charm of Basque coastal culture. "Zurriola" refers to the local area.
Seokjin H — Google review
Popular surfing beach but there is also a safe area for swimming. Can be rough seas depending on the weather. Nice promenade for walking.
John D — Google review
Honestly I was underwhelmed at first but this is a great city beach… not as pretty as the city beaches in Biarritz… but certainly very usable, great facilities (maybe best public showers I’ve seen at a beach) , decent for swimming and fantastic for surfing.
Cameron O — Google review
Very Nice Second Beach of San Sebastian We really like this beach, it is a bit less popular than the one in town, also a bit smaller but that means there are less people too. That is somehow a positive point as it does not get so crowded.

Surfing beach!!! And also swimming beach. Yellow flag to yellow flag, around the place you can swim. Wonderful place to chill, windy and cozy💙 Here's some shower and restroom. Be careful when you swimming, too strong waves.

Monte Igueldo, situated on the western end of La Concha Bay in San Sebastián, is a popular destination for travelers seeking breathtaking views and entertainment. Visitors can take a charming 40-minute stroll along the seafront promenade before boarding the vintage funicular railway that ascends to the modest 181m summit. At the top, an old-fashioned amusement park awaits, featuring attractions like a rollercoaster with stunning cliffside views and various family-friendly rides.
The boat ride is very charming and great views of the city once you get the funicular up. A lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the city
Paul D — Google review
Super nice view, that’s all as this s mostly a lil park for kids to run around. The funicular isn’t worth the >1 hour wait but I insisted as I thought I d be able to enjoy the ride, I was wrong. Overall attractions aren’t attractive, and the only hotel restaurant to avoid. There is though a lil bar on the side selling refreshments at half of the prices and queue, if needed rather go there. I mean, it’s a must go but you may be disappointed
AiNe E — Google review
Easy level trekking (more like walking), easier if you have car 😁. Loved the views. There is small entrance fee and also the other activities for which you have pay small amount but for one time experience I think it’s okay. It’s best place for kids, the park is full of games and stuff for kids.

The Comb of the Wind (Eduardo Chillida, 1976) is a renowned contemporary sculpture made of iron that stands in contrast to the landscape and sea. Located at the end of Ondarreta Beach in San Sebastian, this magnificent work by Eduardo Chillida consists of three rusted steel sculptures positioned on several rocks. The artist intended for these pieces to caress the indomitable Cantabrian wind, reflecting his deep connection to the area where he lived.
We stopped here for a while during a business trip to Bilbao in late 2022. This place is so relaxing. It is so calming to watch and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. There is a hole where you can feel the sensation of the waves crashing between the rocks. It is so nice to be here even for a moment. We visited during the day and there were almost no people visiting. It was so peaceful at that time. I met a very friendly local. I asked his name at that time, but (sorry) I forgot to remember her name.. If you visit San Sebastian, you need to take some time to enjoy the waves crashing here. It was such an amazing experience. Warm regards from Indonesia, TH

Great spot to take a walk and take in the beautiful house line of the amazing san sebastian. Great pieces of art, the sculpture are impressive in the mid day sunshine.

Where land and open sea meet; celebrated by Land Art. (I would have appreciated some onsite background info of the artwork. I think it is a play of the city's initials /symbols as touched by the sea and weather.) Powerful photo opportunity.
LIA K — Google review
Originally planned to come here for a quick visit and ended up staying a lot longer than intended as it was such a relaxing place to be. It was calming watching and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks here, plus there were some great views across the bay. This would be an ideal place to watch the sun go down on a warm summer's day and if I'm ever in San Sebastian again, I'll be sure to do just that.

The restaurant offers a delightful atmosphere with friendly staff and exceptional food. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. A wonderful dining experience that left me eager to return yes

Wonderful! An amazing ensemble of three iron plastics that resist the force of water and winds for so long. The ocean was calm and thankfully the fountain was not spewing water, but its angry voice could be heard. We visited early in the morning and there were hardly any people.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd of San Sebastian is a late-1800s landmark with stunning Gothic-Revival architecture and a towering 75-meter central spire. Situated in the romantic area of San Sebastian, this cathedral was inspired by medieval churches in Germany and France, evident in its pointed style and sharp needle crowning the building. The main facade features The Cross of Peace sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.
A beautiful place to find sanctuary from the crowds or the rain. So peaceful and the stained glass is gorgeous. Not a religious visit but you can appreciate the faith and devotion of the people of San Sebastián-Donostia
Lighthouse C — Google review
The gem of the town, with such a majestic building, and MULTIPLE mass timings, which is such a RARE find in Spain. And the priests are very welcoming. I am so glad to get a chance to visit, and it is not to be missed, as it is near to all the major attractions.
Pecston G — Google review
This is a beautiful Gothic revival cathedral. There is a lot of work currently on the street in front of the entrance to the cathedral, but you can walk around the side of this to gain access. The steeple on top of the cathedral was a later edition. Inside the cathedral are beautiful stained glass windows amazing works of art, including sculptures and paintings. Each of the chapels are filled with beautiful icons. There is a beautiful organ. A magnificent cathedral to visit in the San Sebastian area
G M — Google review
They don’t sell tickets, you can just go in. The ramp is on the side if you come with a baby stroller like I did. It’s beautifully lit up at night. A little more underwhelming in the inside (just compared to other ones) still beautiful . The little courtyard around it is not well kept, pretty dirty.
Cata L — Google review
The cathedral is beautiful but we also went to see luminescence....a light and sound show in the cathedral which was absolutely spectacular and highly recommendable.
Nicola J — Google review
The Catedral del Buen Pastor in San Sebastián is one of those places that sneaks up on you. From the outside it looks impressive with its neo-gothic spire pointing straight into the sky, and once you step inside it’s calm and peaceful, a nice break from the busy streets around it. The stained glass is beautiful and the whole space feels open and airy rather than dark and heavy like some cathedrals. You don’t need a lot of time to visit, but it’s worth popping in if you’re wandering through the city center. Even if you’re not into churches, the atmosphere is relaxing and it gives you a sense of the history of the city.
Scott C — Google review
Amazing architecture on all side of the outside if the building. Inside viewing is free and the stained glass is beautiful.

A wonderful Cathedral. We went there 29th of August to join a great event named Luminescent. San Sebastián Cathedral in Bacolod City has a rich history, established by missionaries in the 1700s and constructed from 1876 to 1882. It is dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The Buen Pastor Cathedral in the city of San Sebastián, Spain, is a separate structure, opening in 1897 and gaining cathedral status in 1953. There is no specific information connecting "luminescence" to either of these churches in the provided search results.

Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo is a mountainside amusement park in San Sebastian that offers stunning views of the bay. The park features kid-friendly attractions like bumper cars and bird exhibits, making it a great spot for families. Visitors can take bus 16 to reach the main entrance if the funicular is crowded. At the top, there's a bar with excellent vibes and drinks, although it may be crowded with families at times.
We visited on a Wednesday in mid-August, arriving around 11 a.m. There was already a line at the entrance, but it moved quickly. Entry to the park costs €2.50 per person, with separate fees for each attraction. Parking was straightforward, and the park has roughly ten attractions in total. We chose the boat ride, which cost an additional €2.30 per person for about a 90-second experience. It opened at 11:15 a.m., and we waited at least 30 minutes in line. The wait was worth it—offering stunning views over San Sebastián.

YES YES YES... this is a fantastic place to be, and an awesome experience. The prices are all very very reasonable, with a 2-way trip on the funicular for only 4.75€, and all the rides are pay-per-ride, ranging only from 2.30€ onwards. The roller coaster was only 3€. The view... PRICELESS. so YES... PLEASE come, even if you come alone, it is fun too! Weekend, long queues, but it keeps moving, so just a little patience is ok.
Pecston G — Google review
This is a quaint vintage amusement park. It has seen better days and is a little shabby. As it was the end of the summer many of the attractions were closed. There is a hotel which is popular as it has unparalleled views of San Sebastián and the Bay of Biscay. There is a funicular railway made of wood which is lovely. A great place to see the spectacular views.

Amazing little park with reasonable prices and amazing views. Definitely worth a visit if you drive by. Very nice and different rides are available, and the views are another level. We love this place at St. Sebastian. #travelwithtentbox
Martina ( — Google review
Absolutely love it! Smaller theme park but the bigger rides and the side scenery water slide was definitely worth the 2.30€ and 2min ride for memories. Super cheap rides and games! I would recommend when you buy tickets for the "ride going up the mountain" get a up and down ticket to avoid long lines because there is only one going up and another one going down, so during busy times you will have to wait to get another ticket going down if you chose this route.
Chour L — Google review
My family LOVED this place! Old school charm and tons of fun. Not ridiculously expensive either. Highly recommend the roller coaster and the boats. Heck, it’s all fun. And what views! Some of the best ever. My only criticism is charging half a Euro to go to the restroom. Really? Evidently that’s done in some places in the EU but wow what a scam. Even little towns in the Basque Country like Lekeitio manage to have free restrooms. I still give it five stars because I sincerely hope this place will be there for future generations.
David M — Google review
I would say it’s a vintage park, it’s cool because it’s old so don’t except super modern rides or to actually feel scared at the house of terror. But it’s a fun hangout. It’s cheap to get in, but then you pay for every ride. There’s a couple of places where you can have a drink and some snacks, and the view is amazing.
Mafalda L — Google review
Absolutely loved our visit here. It's a steep climb, so I would highly recommend the cart to the top. Sorry, can't remember the official name for it. So many exciting and fun things to do for both children and adults. As a group of adults friends, we particularly like the rollercoaster, the horror house and the water ride. The bar at the top had incredible views and the Strawberry mojito was just delicious 😍

La Bretxa local market, established in 1870, is a century-old market featuring various food stalls such as butchers and fishmongers. It's a favorite spot for local chefs to source fresh ingredients for their renowned restaurants. Visitors are welcome to explore the market and sample the diverse food offerings. The market is well-organized with stands offering excellent fish and seafood at reasonable prices.
La Bretxa is a hidden gem at the rear of the old town. Whilst it's not huge it services locals by offering both fresh meat& fish in addition to a full Lidl supermarket. For some unique history check out the historic bidding clock. The local municipality keeps the buildings well maintained and toilets are super clean.

Really interesting place where you can feel the heartbeat of the town. The finest ingredients for pintxos. Shame there is no tasting but there is history and atmosphere
Lighthouse C — Google review
Currently the building is under construction, however the market located on the underground level is still open. Entry is located via the escalators facing the building with McDonald's. The tiles in the market were very interesting and the market offered lots of fresh seafood and fruits (we didn't try the meats). We were able to pay by card at all the stalls we visited.

Little market with quality articles and some less, it's about each of us to check how look the ham for example or ask if this is natural or not... There was no fish today. A Lidl can also be found downstairs

San Bizente Eliza is a stunning Gothic-style church in San Sebastian, built in the 16th century. The church features soaring ceilings and round stained-glass windows, creating a breathtaking atmosphere. In its yard, visitors can find interesting sculptures that make it one of the most Instagrammable places in San Sebastian. The church also boasts beautiful baroque-style architecture for the altar and a magnificent organ.
The Church of San Vicente (Iglesia de San Vicente) is the oldest church in San Sebastián, Spain, located in the city's Old Town. Constructed in the early 16th century, this Basque Gothic-style church stands on the site of a previous temple destroyed by fire. Exterior: The façade features a sculpture titled "La Piedad" (The Compassion), depicting the Virgin Mary with open arms holding the body of Christ on her lap. Interior: The church houses several excellently carved wooden altars at the end of its three naves. Notably, it contains one of the best Romanesque altarpieces, crafted by Ambrosio de Bengoechea and Juan de Iriarte. Organ: Installed in 1868, the organ was built by the renowned Parisian organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. Visiting Information Entrance is free. Its location in the heart of San Sebastián's Old Town makes it a significant cultural and historical landmark, reflecting the city's rich architectural heritage.
Zoran J — Google review
The most ornate church we visited with a spectacular altar and some intricate woodwork. Organ music was playing to set an atmosphere but unfortunately it was either badly composed or played and we did not linger. Like most churches, there will be a beggar outside but they are polite and do not insist. Not disappointed by the church but the music was awful.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Has opening hours, and so, if it is open, GO IN. Gosh, you will not be disappointed, because everything inside is simply gorgeous and well maintained. I love it so much, and spent some good time inside. Lots of tourists, but you can still find your quiet spot.
Pecston G — Google review
Another example of classic gothic architecture. The outside is quite plain, but inside there are beautiful sculptures, paintings, and other works of art in the chapel niches and the altar. There is a beautiful organ which is well restored, but we were unfortunate not to hear. This is a beautiful place for contemplation to get away from the crowds of San Sebastian and to sit reflect and look up at the beautiful vaulted ceiling.

San Vicente Mártir is a 16th century Gothic church, and is one of the oldest buildings in the city of San Sebastián, and one of the few that survived the fire of 1813. Its main altarpiece by Ambrosio de Bengoechea, completed in 1586, is an example of Romanismo, a style which imitated the artists who worked in Rome during the High Renaissance, mainly Raphael and Michelangelo.
Kent W — Google review
Do not miss this place if you're in the area. Almost unassuming from the outside, the interior is simply stunning. Very moving as well. Can't say much more than that. It was open and free when we passed by.

As overwhelming as the city's impressions may be culturally speaking San Sebastian is (at least from an outsider's perspective) quite a no-man's-land. This church is one of the few exceptions. Built in the Basque Gothic style and the oldest sacred building in the city it is worth a visit in summer if only to take a breather and cool off.

Beautiful woodland park. Nice option to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the busy old town. We saw our first red squirrel and do take some seed or old bread to hand feed the Great Tits and Nuthatches. Also lots of other birds including Jays, Blackbirds, Robins and Sparrows. As well as a pond with a Swan, Mallard ducks and terrapins. And peacocks too.

Very nice little park just off the new center of San Sebastián close to the train station. This is such an amazing cable car trip to see the most beautiful view of San Sebastián! It took us some time to wait on the line but it moved pretty fast to get the ticket and take the train up to the mountain. Fantastic Funicular As stated by many here on the various reviews, doing the funicular in San Sebastian is an absolute must. It is first very nice and historical but also is one of the best way to get incredible views of the bay. This is where you can actually see it the most, i.e. from higher ground. note you can buy your tickets here. We really enjoyed this, it was one of the highlights of our trip in San Sebastian.
Paul V — Google review
Riding the Monte Igueldo funicular feels like stepping into a time machine those vintage wooden cars have been climbing since 1912! The payoff is a jaw-dropping view over La Concha and the city, especially if you angle your camera from the left side of the lookout tower for the best shot. Insider tip: tickets cost about €4.50 round trip, but hit the ticket booth before 10 AM to dodge long queues in peak season. The retro amusement park at the top is a quirky bonus perfect for a quick spin on the old-school rides.
Thomas J — Google review
If you wanna get to the fabulous views, you have to take the funicular! It is a very old system and kind of rickety with none of today’s modern safety features but it gets the job done and it’s actually fun. The views and the funicular itself aren’t great, but if you can sit in the very very front, you might get some good shots.

It was a fun long walk down the beach to the funicular - and a nice rickety but authentic ride up. The views from the top were great. We did not pay the extra euro to hike up the castle part which holds an exhibit that looked interesting -but only because of lack of time. We wanted to take the bus back but it wasn’t coming for another 43 minutes (or something) so we finally found a taxi.

In some parts the walk is dangerous, you must wear shoes that do not slip, and also plenty of water. Nice place to go trekking, spend time with family and disconnect from the routine. Park
Mount Igueldo Viewpoint, located in San Sebastian, Spain, is a popular attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city, La Concha bay, and the surrounding coastline. Visitors can reach the summit by hiking, walking, or taking the historic funicular railway dating back to 1912. The area also features an old-fashioned amusement park that adds a nostalgic charm to the experience.
Beautiful place for various viewpoints. A must visit place if you are visiting San Sebastian. Please do go for the rollercoaster and water ride to enjoy them along with the mesmerizing views.
Sagarika B — Google review
Due to the amusement parks located here one might easily get the impression that a trip here would only be worthwhile for families. But that couldn't be further from the truth: the breathtaking panoramic view of the bay and beaches of San Sebastian is almost unique in Europe. When it's very hot the mountain railway takes you to the top in no time and waiting times are kept to a minimum. At the top there is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a short boat trip on artificial water channels. Experiencing the city from a bird's eye view is simply a must for every visitor.

Absolutely stunning place to spend a few hours in San Sebastian. The view really gives context to the whole beautiful area, I don’t know how you could take a bad shot. You take the funicular up to this spot. All the games and attractions were closed when we were there, but the restaurant had a limited menu and there was an ice cream snack shop open as well. You don’t need more than an hour or so if the attractions aren’t open unless you want to spend a few hours at the café gazing out.
Heather A — Google review
The Funicular is the most popular way to get to the top and it was a fun experience. Up the top you get spectacular views. You could easily spend a few hours admiring the views. There fun rides for children, a historic tower to climb up view more of the surroundings. There is also somewhere to eat and a hotel. I would recommend anyone of all ages groups to visit and enjoy the experience.
Marcia S — Google review
Fantastic views. Took the funicular up and down. We visited out of season, end of September so no waiting. High season I’d expect a lot more people, especially small children going for the amusement park which was closed during our visit.
Andrew M — Google review
Definitely worth the climb to the top of the tower we took the funicular railway to the amusement park and then paid the €3 to go to the top of the tower. The views are spectacular.
Jeff F — Google review
Excellent views over San Sebastian and lovely area to stroll around and enjoy the various attractions in a quaint amusement park. Plenty of seating around to also rest on a warm day. €4 to travel up to it on the 100 year old funicular.

A fantastic hike up to the Monte Igueldo viewpoint in San Sebastián! The trail was beautiful, and the views from the top were absolutely incredible. Highly recommend it!

Castle
Baluarte del Mirador is a picturesque observation point located on an ancient fortress, providing stunning panoramic views of the city and its beaches from an elevated vantage point. It's recommended to avoid visiting during the scorching midday heat in summer. Nearby attractions include a bar with scenic views, Paseo Nuevo for leisurely strolls, and opportunities for urban hiking. Visitors can also explore the museum at the top of the fortress for a nominal fee to enhance their experience.
Great views of the city, beaches and mountain. We went at sunset and it was beautiful. Would recommend.
Nicki M — Google review
The observation deck originally dated back from 16th century and later evolved into a bastion. It provides panoramic views of San Sebastián’s coastline, including La Concha Bay, Zurriola Beach, and the surrounding cityscape. You can walk up from the San Telmo musuem and it take about 15 mins to get there.
Simon L — Google review
Great views and nice getaway from the sun! The park is very green and has shade which makes it cooler than other places. It’s a good walk around 2 km (both ways) and the views are soo good!
Ivet B — Google review
Amazing views up here of the two beaches and also San Sebastián. Took us about 15 minutes to walk up to the observation point and you will be greeted with a free postcard panoramic view of the beach and town. Highly recommended!
Wai W — Google review
To go up to the top, it takes around 30 min with all the stops for photos and enjoying the view. To go down it also takes some time but on the way down you have a great viewpoint at the other surfing beach so make sure not to miss it! It's worth seeing for sure. Probably my favourite view in the whole city.

Another great photo opportunity on the way to the top or on the way down whichever way you you make your way to the top, please wear good flat shoes, the pathways are step and rocky, wheelchair access may be possible as I did see roadways on the way up but please check with the local tourist office

It was an especially important defensive site, starting in the 12th century. Today, Monte Urgull draws visitors for its views of the city and bay, La Concha and Ondarreta beaches, Santa Clara Island, and Monte Igueldo, the western headland.

Early morning hike for a rewarding view of the Zurriola surfers beach.

Monte Urgull is a prominent hill in San Sebastian, offering stunning views of the city and its surroundings. The steep path leading to the old fort at the summit provides an invigorating hike with various viewpoints along the way. The Historical Quarter at the foot of Monte Urgull is a charming area with cobbled streets and lively bars serving delicious pintxos. Visiting this iconic landmark is a must for anyone exploring San Sebastian, providing both exercise and breathtaking panoramic vistas.
Take a walk away from the old town to the other side of the bay along the beautiful promenade to the Funicular station at the bottom of Monte Urgull. The accent itself is worth the trip but when you reach the top you will be rewarded by the best views of the bay. There is a bar with a panoramic terrace to enjoy the view from. The top of the mountain is also home to a small theme park with a variety of tame rides to enjoy with your family. There is a narrow circular water canal ride that skirts the perimeter of the mountain top, hugging the edge of the cliffs carrying small boats for 4. So if you don't suffer from vertigo then it's a great way of taking in the views. The top of the tower has a 360 degree view of the whole area.

Beautiful walk up to the castle. Tha Park is very nice with an amazing view of San Sebastián.

Great hike. Trail maps can use some updating. Good escape from the city for some exercise.
Tim K — Google review
Fantastic walk up and spectacular views! There are different ways to walk up and down. I started walking up from the San Telmo museum, there's a staircase on the corner of the museum. Then took a different route down, arriving behind the Architecture Institute (?) A memorable experience and as a workout, totally beats the treadmill at the hotel gym!
Hannele P — Google review
A fantastic way to view the entire city from above. It’s also a good way to burn off some pintxos calories 😁. There are many route to get to the top. There is the paved road, with many entry and exit point, which will take you around the hill top. For those with stamina, a quick way is to use the steps to get up to the fort and statue quicker. You will see many steps entry as you circle the hill. Using the paved road you will come to various view point overlooking different part of the city. Don’t forget to stop by at the cafe closer to the top. It’s a fantastic place to rest, get a drink and enjoy the view.

Lovely walk and great views. Pub half way up aswell which is handy
John J — Google review
There are a few different routes walking up the mountain. At various points, there are maps with relevant information about the fort. This information is in Spanish, Basque and English. The walk can be a bit steep. Once on the top, where the main fort is, there a various amounts of canons and a museum (free of charge). The museum has several videos playing, buildings on scale and information panels. All information on these panels are in Spanish/Basque, however there is a very informative booklet in English about the history of the fort and San Sebastián. All is very well looked after and well presented. To get to the top, there is a limited amount of space. You need to get tickets (free) and you can only spend there 5/10mins. This is more than enough and the views are sweeping. Good recommendation for a morning trip.
Pieter B — Google review
Best hike and views in town!!! Seriously I wish I could do this walk everyday. You can choose steep or gentle paths to the top and there is even a tiny bar half way up.
