Museums
The San Telmo Museum, situated in the heart of Donostia-San Sebastian's Old Town, is a captivating venue that showcases the rich tapestry of Basque culture and history. Housed in a renovated 16th century Dominican convent with modern interventions, this museum offers an intriguing blend of historical architecture and contemporary design. Visitors can explore a diverse collection encompassing Basque ethnography, art, photography, and global archaeological discoveries.
San Telmo museum is located at the old town and right at the foot of Mt. Urgull. The old part of the museum is housed in a 16th-century Dominican convent and the main entrance is the modern part and also used it for special exhibition. If you want to know more about the Basque culture and history , then this is the right place. It has a bit of everything. Paintings , archaeology , special history sessions for the last hundreds year. Interesting display of large scale murals from Josep Maria Sert.
Simon L — Google review
Better than expected with some great displays and some a bit baffling. A big variety and an important insight into the history of the Basque people and culture. Perfect for a rainy day. Wish we'd booked a tour in English to get more out of the experience. It was free the day we visited. We would have not visited for €10 each as there was not enough information for non Spanish speakers. It is tiring to translate.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Such a cool museum! It was a great way to learn about Basque culture, and I was impressed to find a large collections of art as well as many informative exhibits about Basque history. The building itself is incredible! Plus they had an awesome temporary exhibit about flora and textiles.
Hailey B — Google review
Very interesting museum, was glad to learn more about the history of the Basque Country in the context of the Spanish Civil War. The old church is outstanding! However I think the history had a clear left wing bias in terms of cultural/political changes in more modern times, and should be more neutral.
Karl F — Google review
San Telmo is like stepping into a living storybook of Basque culture! The moment you walk through that stunning 16th-century convent, you’re hit with this incredible blend of ancient vibes and modern flair. Those massive Sert murals in the old church? Jaw-dropping. I spent hours soaking in the history, from prehistoric artifacts to sleek modern designs, and still felt like I barely scratched the surface. A quirky tidbit: the museum’s new wing is covered in 3,500 recycled aluminum sheets with moss growing through them, blending right into Monte Urgull like it’s part of the mountain! Tickets are €6, but go on a Tuesday for free entry just get there early to avoid the crowd. Bring a phone for the audio guide; not everything’s in English, and it really brings the exhibits to life. Don’t skip the Zazpi café for a quick pintxo break it’s a gem
Arthur V — Google review
A good introduction into the history of the Basque country. The museum is a good balance between history, culture and art. The chapel is a "must see" in the city. A good value for money alternative in the city, particularly for families, since people under 25yrs enter free.
Jorge P — Google review
We went on a Tuesday, the locals recommended us since it is free on Tuesdays. It was amazing, even if we had to pay, it would have been so worth it! They have a lot of information, you travel through time from the beginning till modern days, there are a lot of videos and mini films for each station, a lot of interactive stations as well. Not the typical boring museum, it is filled with stories, truly exciting! I would recommend it to anyone staying at Donostia! Must-visit place!

Really interesting museum, both the building and the exhibitions. Not very crowded which gives you plenty of time to check the exhibits.

Beach
Outdoor Activities
The Beach of La Concha is a bustling, sandy, shell-shaped beach located on the Bay of La Concha in San Sebastian. It is considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe and among the best in the Basque Country. The elegant modernist promenade stretches for over a kilometer and ends at the Palacio de Mirar, featuring white railings and numerous large lampposts.
Fantastic Beach in Town Centre This is a great beach, it is very wide and shallow at the beginning but you get depth quite fast and you can swim very far out. The beach itself is really nice and has all the necessary amenities. What I also like a lot is that you can go to restaurants, shops etc very easily. Last but not least the view is also amazing!
Paul V — Google review
I loved the size of the beach. Despite the crowds, it never felt overcrowded. If you enjoy proper swimming, you can swim long distances across the width of the beach. There are also several good restaurants within walking distance. Plus, there’s convenient access to public restrooms. I would definitely recommend it.
Jens M — Google review
Beautiful beach. Mostly always well kept. Even if you don't like sand is very nice to stroll along just about any time of day.
Robin R — Google review
Fantastic city beach with safe swimming water. There is an arched promenade allowing for shade if needed with young children.
John D — Google review
One cannot come to San. Sebastian and not come to the beach. For goodness sake, this is the paradise part of SS. Full of people but ALWAYS enough space for everyone. Amazing and a must come for the sunshine!
Pecston G — Google review
Very beautiful in picture beach in the centre of Saint Sebastian. I really love my visit to the spot. Lots of people enjoying the weather and the scenic view. Around the beach area, there is plenty to see, including tourist attractions and spots to enjoy refreshments and food.
Carl C — Google review
Great walk around the bay and a lovely beach. Some great sand sculptures at the far end.
Linda — Google review
As far as I can tell it is no less than the most beautiful city beach or bay in Europe. Of course you have to be lucky with the weather, as on hot days it feels like the whole city is digging through the sand. The huge dimensions only become clear on a walk or a drive up one of the two hills (Monte Igueldo or Urgull). It is a little unusual that there is so little catering right on the promenade.

The Donostia-San Sebastian Aquarium, also known as the Aquarium-Palacio del Mar, is a popular seaside attraction located at the end of the port. Established in 1928, it is not only an aquarium but also a maritime museum that provides educational insights into local fishing and naval history. The aquarium features a large oceanarium with an impressive shark tunnel offering 360-degree views for visitors to walk underwater and observe marine species up close.
We had a great visit here with the kids, the staff and displays are multilingual which makes it really accessible for all. I love that there is a maritime museum section at the start with local history and even pirate sections. The aquarium is a good size with lots of variation, enough to keep the kids engaged for at least an hour. The gift shop was good not too overpriced and the staff are friendly. All in all it is well worth adding this as a detour if visiting the local area, I will say we went for opening, by the time we finished there were big queues. Buying tickets in advance won't help as you still have to join the queue to validate them. So to avoid disappointment I would recommend getting in early.
James D — Google review
I haven’t gone to an aquarium in forever— and this place makes me want to visit my local ones again. The sharks repeatedly swam over the tunnel they have here, allowing us the get a close up view of their fins, teeth, gills, and eyes! It was so cool. Definitely recommend visiting.
Smarty P — Google review
⸻ The Aquarium in San Sebastián is well worth a visit, especially if you’re with kids. The exhibits are informative and well laid out, with a mix of history and marine life. The highlight is the glass tunnel where fish and sharks swim around you, which keeps both children and adults impressed. It’s not a huge aquarium, but it’s well maintained and easy to walk through in about 1–2 hours. Ticket prices are fair for what you get, and the location by the harbor makes it convenient to include in a day of exploring the city.
M S — Google review
The San Sebastián Aquarium, situated in the harbor of Donostia-San Sebastián, presents a comprehensive exploration of marine ecosystems with a focus on the biogeography of the Cantabrian Sea and broader global biodiversity. The institution houses a substantial collection of over 200 species, meticulously curated across diverse habitats. The centerpiece, the Oceanarium, a 1.5 x 1.5 million liter tank traversed by a 360-degree acrylic tunnel, facilitates direct observation of apex predators such as Carcharhinus leucas (bull shark), various batoids including species from the families Myliobatidae and Dasyatidae, and chelonioids like Caretta caretta (loggerhead sea turtle). Dedicated tanks showcase the ichthyofauna and invertebrate communities endemic to the Cantabrian Sea, highlighting ecological relationships within this temperate Atlantic region. Furthermore, the aquarium features biotope-specific exhibits representing tropical coral reef ecosystems, displaying a vibrant array of scleractinian corals and associated reef fish from the families Pomacanthidae, Labridae, and Chaetodontidae. Specialized displays focus on pelagic species, cryptic microfauna, and venomous marine organisms, underscoring the diversity of marine adaptations. The inclusion of a tactile aquarium allows for direct interaction with selected benthic invertebrates, promoting experiential learning. Beyond live exhibits, the institution maintains a significant osteological collection, most notably the skeleton of Eubalaena glacialis (North Atlantic right whale), providing paleontological context to regional marine fauna. Through its integrated approach encompassing live displays, interactive technologies, and historical artifacts, the San Sebastián Aquarium serves as a valuable resource for both public education and the dissemination of marine biological knowledge. Not a huge Aquarium but worth the visit. Specially the huge main tank.
Manuel V — Google review
Fantastic place, essentially the naval museum on the top two floors with model boats, history, etc. then natural marine wildlife, and down into two floors of aquarium. Very well done, very informative, and finishes with a pair of axolotl and a gift shop. Fantastic experience all around!
ACE B — Google review
great aquarium from someone who loves sea animals, and a lot of history about fishing and ancient history it was great, although for me who is autistic I did get a bit overwhelmed by the people and had to put on music for myself. So if you have a child with any difficulties please prep beforehand
Malia C — Google review
Not big but interesting and educational, aquariums with many species of fish, few people enter the hall called the auditorium, not knowing that there is a huge aquarium with large fish, you can sit and watch them. I really liked the walk and it turned out to be educational.
Eduard M — Google review
A fabulous museum and aquarium. Lots of interesting exhibits for all ages, wonderful tanks and friendly staff. It was just perfect for a rainy day and so much more than we expected. One of our favourite places in Donostia and we'd go again. Don't miss it.

Situated in the most central part of the city, the Victoria Eugenia Theater is one of the most emblematic buildings in San Sebastián. The Comb of the Wind (Eduardo Chillida, 1976) is a renowned contemporary sculpture made of iron that stands in contrast to the landscape and sea. Located at the end of Ondarreta Beach in San Sebastian, this magnificent work by Eduardo Chillida consists of three rusted steel sculptures positioned on several rocks. The artist intended for these pieces to caress the indomitable Cantabrian wind, reflecting his deep connection to the area where he lived.
We stopped here for a while during a business trip to Bilbao in late 2022. This place is so relaxing. It is so calming to watch and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. There is a hole where you can feel the sensation of the waves crashing between the rocks. It is so nice to be here even for a moment. We visited during the day and there were almost no people visiting. It was so peaceful at that time. I met a very friendly local. I asked his name at that time, but (sorry) I forgot to remember her name.. If you visit San Sebastian, you need to take some time to enjoy the waves crashing here. It was such an amazing experience. Warm regards from Indonesia, TH

Great spot to take a walk and take in the beautiful house line of the amazing san sebastian. Great pieces of art, the sculpture are impressive in the mid day sunshine.

Where land and open sea meet; celebrated by Land Art. (I would have appreciated some onsite background info of the artwork. I think it is a play of the city's initials /symbols as touched by the sea and weather.) Powerful photo opportunity.
LIA K — Google review
Originally planned to come here for a quick visit and ended up staying a lot longer than intended as it was such a relaxing place to be. It was calming watching and listening to the waves crashing against the rocks here, plus there were some great views across the bay. This would be an ideal place to watch the sun go down on a warm summer's day and if I'm ever in San Sebastian again, I'll be sure to do just that.
Luke B — Google review
The restaurant offers a delightful atmosphere with friendly staff and exceptional food. Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. A wonderful dining experience that left me eager to return yes
Tiago C — Google review
Wonderful! An amazing ensemble of three iron plastics that resist the force of water and winds for so long. The ocean was calm and thankfully the fountain was not spewing water, but its angry voice could be heard. We visited early in the morning and there were hardly any people.

Zurriola beach in Donostia/San Sebastian is renowned as one of the top urban surfing spots in Europe. The neighborhood of Gros and the entire city are heavily influenced by the sport, with over 100 companies dedicated to surfing. Visitors can easily find opportunities for surfing courses and experiences throughout the year, as well as shops offering rental equipment. The area is a hub for experienced surfers who view surfing not just as a sport but also as a lifestyle.
It’s a beautiful beach at the end of San Sebastián. There’s plenty of space for a large crowd, and it’s great to watch the surfers there!

Perfect little surf beach in San Sebastián. We rented boards and wetsuits from Hawaii Donostia and my daughter caught her first wave all the wave in. There’s plenty of space for different levels of surfing and the beach is so clean and pretty
Justin H — Google review
Stretching about 800 meters, the beach is a popular hotspot for surfers and younger crowds. It’s known for its energetic water sports scene combined with the laid-back charm of Basque coastal culture. "Zurriola" refers to the local area.

Popular surfing beach but there is also a safe area for swimming. Can be rough seas depending on the weather. Nice promenade for walking.
John D — Google review
Honestly I was underwhelmed at first but this is a great city beach… not as pretty as the city beaches in Biarritz… but certainly very usable, great facilities (maybe best public showers I’ve seen at a beach) , decent for swimming and fantastic for surfing.
Cameron O — Google review
Very Nice Second Beach of San Sebastian We really like this beach, it is a bit less popular than the one in town, also a bit smaller but that means there are less people too. That is somehow a positive point as it does not get so crowded.

Sara was such a fantastic guide. This tour takes you to all of the best and most popular places on San Sebastián for the best pintxos the city has to offer. We visited four bars and ate like Spanish royalty, skipped the queue each time and had Sara take care of our dietary concerns. Best afternoon activity, would recommend it and Sara to anyone.
Luke H — Google review
Our tour was incredible and the best experience we’ve had in Spain! Thank you, Clara.
Heather D — Google review
Clara was a wonderful guide and we had a great night. The restaurants we went to were lovely and I would have missed them without her guidance. She ordered amazing dishes and provided history of the region. It was especially nice to walk into busy restaurants and have a reserved table for our group. I would come back to town just to take this tour again.
David S — Google review
Our Pintxos Tour with Clara was the highlight of our San Sebastián experience. She had us laughing from the moment we met her. We ate and drank the most amazing pintxos and wine selections. She lured many of us out of our comfort zones as well. She was so knowledgeable on the history of The Basque Region. I highly recommend San Sebastián Pintxos Tours and Clara!!!!!
Amy C — Google review
we had a great experience, the food and the drinks just kept on coming and were extremely delicious. Our guide was Javier and he was brilliant and very knowledgeable for someone so young. Worth doing.

Did a private tour with them and it was a fantastic experience. They tailored to what you wanted to try and made excellent suggestions for both food and wine. Oihane my guide also gave me some tips for things to do (and other places to eat) in San Seb. I’d highly recommend doing a tour on your first night to get an understanding of how pintxos bars work and to perhaps also help plan the rest of your time in the city.
Alex M — Google review
A fabulous evening with Mikel, our knowledgeable and entertaining guide through some of San Sebastian's finest Pintxos bars and restaurants. Mikel sources truly outstanding food and wine for us and provided excellent background information on the culture and history behind the cuisine . Highly recommended .

Our Pintxos tour with Clara was everything we wanted on our first full-day day in Donostia-San Sebastian! She gave us history of the Basque area, Old Town, and shared her favorite Pintxos with a coordinating wine or cocktail. Our group of “girls” experienced the area like a local with Clara’s expert guidance. We highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an amazing local guide, great food and fun! Thank you, Clara, from the Colorado Girls!

We had a fantastic time on this tour. Our guide Nerea was so knowledgeable about Basque food, wine, and culture and took us to really great pintxo bars. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get an introduction to the San Sebastian food scene.
Justin N — Google review
We booked a private pintxos tour with this company based on a recommendation from a hostess at the critically-acclaimed restaurant Rekondo. We were so happy with our choice as our guide (Javier Mugica) was absolutely fantastic in every way. In a few short hours, we felt that we had tasted some of the best pintxos in San Sebastian, had developed a solid understanding of pintxo-ordering etiquette (so we could proceed on our own with confidence) and had also received a little history lesson on the city. It was the perfect way to start our week in San Sebastian. I highly recommend both the company and our guide Javier.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd of San Sebastian is a late-1800s landmark with stunning Gothic-Revival architecture and a towering 75-meter central spire. Situated in the romantic area of San Sebastian, this cathedral was inspired by medieval churches in Germany and France, evident in its pointed style and sharp needle crowning the building. The main facade features The Cross of Peace sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.
A beautiful place to find sanctuary from the crowds or the rain. So peaceful and the stained glass is gorgeous. Not a religious visit but you can appreciate the faith and devotion of the people of San Sebastián-Donostia
Lighthouse C — Google review
The gem of the town, with such a majestic building, and MULTIPLE mass timings, which is such a RARE find in Spain. And the priests are very welcoming. I am so glad to get a chance to visit, and it is not to be missed, as it is near to all the major attractions.

This is a beautiful Gothic revival cathedral. There is a lot of work currently on the street in front of the entrance to the cathedral, but you can walk around the side of this to gain access. The steeple on top of the cathedral was a later edition. Inside the cathedral are beautiful stained glass windows amazing works of art, including sculptures and paintings. Each of the chapels are filled with beautiful icons. There is a beautiful organ. A magnificent cathedral to visit in the San Sebastian area

They don’t sell tickets, you can just go in. The ramp is on the side if you come with a baby stroller like I did. It’s beautifully lit up at night. A little more underwhelming in the inside (just compared to other ones) still beautiful . The little courtyard around it is not well kept, pretty dirty.

The Catedral del Buen Pastor in San Sebastián is one of those places that sneaks up on you. From the outside it looks impressive with its neo-gothic spire pointing straight into the sky, and once you step inside it’s calm and peaceful, a nice break from the busy streets around it. The stained glass is beautiful and the whole space feels open and airy rather than dark and heavy like some cathedrals. You don’t need a lot of time to visit, but it’s worth popping in if you’re wandering through the city center. Even if you’re not into churches, the atmosphere is relaxing and it gives you a sense of the history of the city.

A wonderful Cathedral. We went there 29th of August to join a great event named Luminescent. San Sebastián Cathedral in Bacolod City has a rich history, established by missionaries in the 1700s and constructed from 1876 to 1882. It is dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The Buen Pastor Cathedral in the city of San Sebastián, Spain, is a separate structure, opening in 1897 and gaining cathedral status in 1953. There is no specific information connecting "luminescence" to either of these churches in the provided search results.

Cristina Enea Park is a serene and lush oasis nestled near the heart of San Sebastian. It was originally the private estate of the Duke of Mandas but has since been opened to the public, offering a tranquil escape from city life. This beloved green space is located on a small peninsula along the Urumea river and boasts well-maintained pathways, gardens, and a picturesque pond where visitors can observe local wildlife such as flamingos.
Beautiful woodland park. Nice option to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the busy old town. We saw our first red squirrel and do take some seed or old bread to hand feed the Great Tits and Nuthatches. Also lots of other birds including Jays, Blackbirds, Robins and Sparrows. As well as a pond with a Swan, Mallard ducks and terrapins. And peacocks too.

Very nice little park just off the new center of San Sebastián close to the train station. The vegetation is very green, a clear indication that San Sebastián and the basque country get significantly more rain than the rest of Spain. The park is very well maintaines and clean. It is pleasant to walk along the alleys and as the park is situated on the slope so you can walk up and down the stairs as well. There are a few ponds full of aquatic birds.

A giant palace converted to a government building and housing the National library as well. All about its a plaza with old trees and flower arranged in patterns. Plenty of benches allow you to pick if you want to sit in the sun or shade. The bay is right there, so a walk around affords you a pristine view of one of the best beaches in Spain

Monte Urgull is a prominent hill in San Sebastian, offering stunning views of the city and its surroundings. The steep path leading to the old fort at the summit provides an invigorating hike with various viewpoints along the way. The Historical Quarter at the foot of Monte Urgull is a charming area with cobbled streets and lively bars serving delicious pintxos. Visiting this iconic landmark is a must for anyone exploring San Sebastian, providing both exercise and breathtaking panoramic vistas.
Take a walk away from the old town to the other side of the bay along the beautiful promenade to the Funicular station at the bottom of Monte Urgull. The accent itself is worth the trip but when you reach the top you will be rewarded by the best views of the bay. There is a bar with a panoramic terrace to enjoy the view from. The top of the mountain is also home to a small theme park with a variety of tame rides to enjoy with your family. There is a narrow circular water canal ride that skirts the perimeter of the mountain top, hugging the edge of the cliffs carrying small boats for 4. So if you don't suffer from vertigo then it's a great way of taking in the views. The top of the tower has a 360 degree view of the whole area.

A fantastic way to view the entire city from above. It’s also a good way to burn off some pintxos calories 😁. There are many route to get to the top. There is the paved road, with many entry and exit point, which will take you around the hill top. For those with stamina, a quick way is to use the steps to get up to the fort and statue quicker. You will see many steps entry as you circle the hill. Using the paved road you will come to various view point overlooking different part of the city. Don’t forget to stop by at the cafe closer to the top. It’s a fantastic place to rest, get a drink and enjoy the view.

John J — Google review
There are a few different routes walking up the mountain. At various points, there are maps with relevant information about the fort. This information is in Spanish, Basque and English. The walk can be a bit steep. Once on the top, where the main fort is, there a various amounts of canons and a museum (free of charge). The museum has several videos playing, buildings on scale and information panels. All information on these panels are in Spanish/Basque, however there is a very informative booklet in English about the history of the fort and San Sebastián. All is very well looked after and well presented. To get to the top, there is a limited amount of space. You need to get tickets (free) and you can only spend there 5/10mins. This is more than enough and the views are sweeping. Good recommendation for a morning trip.
Pieter B — Google review
Best hike and views in town!!! Seriously I wish I could do this walk everyday. You can choose steep or gentle paths to the top and there is even a tiny bar half way up.
Bryce J — Google review
Approaching the hill through the city makes the walk seem less steep. The views are great from the beginning, but keep getting even better as you approach the top. We went on a Saturday morning (~9am) and there were barely any people, granted, it was overcast and raining a little, but the views were still great. We came down on the side closest to the aquarium which again, seemed steeper than the side we initially approched on. Overall, nice walk and not too strenuous.

The funicular, inaugurated in 1912, is a beloved local attraction and offers a thrilling ride with spectacular vistas.
This is such an amazing cable car trip to see the most beautiful view of San Sebastián! It took us some time to wait on the line but it moved pretty fast to get the ticket and take the train up to the mountain. There is an entertainment park up in the mountain and a lot of places to enjoy the best view of the whole city. What an unforgettable experience. It’s also very easy to arrive the place by public bus. Very convenient and easy to travel here.

Fantastic Funicular As stated by many here on the various reviews, doing the funicular in San Sebastian is an absolute must. It is first very nice and historical but also is one of the best way to get incredible views of the bay. This is where you can actually see it the most, i.e. from higher ground. note you can buy your tickets here. We really enjoyed this, it was one of the highlights of our trip in San Sebastian.
Paul V — Google review
Riding the Monte Igueldo funicular feels like stepping into a time machine those vintage wooden cars have been climbing since 1912! The payoff is a jaw-dropping view over La Concha and the city, especially if you angle your camera from the left side of the lookout tower for the best shot. Insider tip: tickets cost about €4.50 round trip, but hit the ticket booth before 10 AM to dodge long queues in peak season. The retro amusement park at the top is a quirky bonus perfect for a quick spin on the old-school rides.
Thomas J — Google review
If you wanna get to the fabulous views, you have to take the funicular! It is a very old system and kind of rickety with none of today’s modern safety features but it gets the job done and it’s actually fun. The views and the funicular itself aren’t great, but if you can sit in the very very front, you might get some good shots.

Visitors can reach the summit by hiking, walking, or taking the historic funicular railway dating back to 1912. The area also features an old-fashioned amusement park that adds a nostalgic charm to the experience.

Due to the amusement parks located here one might easily get the impression that a trip here would only be worthwhile for families. But that couldn't be further from the truth: the breathtaking panoramic view of the bay and beaches of San Sebastian is almost unique in Europe. When it's very hot the mountain railway takes you to the top in no time and waiting times are kept to a minimum. At the top there is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a short boat trip on artificial water channels. Experiencing the city from a bird's eye view is simply a must for every visitor.

Absolutely stunning place to spend a few hours in San Sebastian. The view really gives context to the whole beautiful area, I don’t know how you could take a bad shot. You take the funicular up to this spot. All the games and attractions were closed when we were there, but the restaurant had a limited menu and there was an ice cream snack shop open as well. You don’t need more than an hour or so if the attractions aren’t open unless you want to spend a few hours at the café gazing out.

I’ve been clubbing everywhere in the world and this place is one the worst I’ve ever been too. The security is FASCIST, they do not allow people back in without ANY EXPLANATION and one of them is been incredibly aggressive to me with no reason at all, he almost put his hands on me and I was just talking politely. I paid my entrance, I was a regular customer and that’s how they treated me. Avoid this place, I will also send a mail to Resident Advisor to warn them not to publicise the events of such a terrible place. Clubbing needs safe places around the globe with good vibes, not this.

The tour and guide Pelayo were both excellent. I was able to learn about the rich history of the city while being entertained. I appreciate the recommendations for places to eat and things to do within and outside the city. I would recommend this to anyone I know coming to San Sebastián.
Elynn W — Google review
Great experience with our guide Pelayo! Such a great storyteller, the two hours were informative and exciting, providing a nice glimpse to the Old Town of San Sebastián, historic events and Basque culture!
Patrick K — Google review
We had an amazing experience with Pelayo on our walking tour. It was a very warm day but he kept us in the shade for the majority of the discussion stops. He was funny, kind and shared all the great places he enjoys eating and drinking at! Would definitely recommend to future visitors!!
Heather K — Google review
Cannot praise this tour highly enough. Met our guide Pelayo ( or “P” as he said was easier to pronounce) in pouring rain at 10.30 am. Then we had two hours of absolutely fascinating information about San Sebastián; its history; its Basque culture; interesting information on how to live here now and what else to do in San Sebastián. P was especially helpful on how to get the best of the city. I’ve been on many different types of guided tours all around the world. This was the best one I’ve experienced and so memorable. A little tip - get his advice and tips on where to eat and drink locally. Another tip- . Book online before you go as it’s a small intimate group and fills up. Overall, not to be missed. Highly recommended.
David C — Google review
Really informative walking tour that gave insights into San Sebastian and the food scene plus historical aspects. Pelayo was our guide, who has some pretty long history with the area and can tell a yarn with a lot of humour. Thanks for the great pinxtos recommendations too.
Kym P — Google review
Our guide Pelayo did a wonderful job touring us around San Sebastian today. Although talking a bit fast, or perhaps also because of this, he managed to include an incredible amount of historical and practical info while walking through the streets of this fascinating city. He knew the answer to every question and didn’t hold back sharing his personal experiences and perspectives which gave the tour a nice couleur locale. I’m also a big fan of the concept to pay as a donation afterwards. Five stars well earned P! Keep up the good work and best wishes from Amsterdam.

We had a great time on the free walking tour in San Sebastián! Our guide, Pelayo ("P" 😊), was super funny and made the two hours fly by. He shared lots of cool facts about the city’s history, culture, and cuisine — plus some great local recommendations. Definitely a fun and informative way to explore the city. Highly recommend!
Sabine L — Google review
Pelayo gave a really excellent tour of San Sebastián. He was engaging and interesting, with an extensive knowledge of the history of the city which he shared in a succinct and fun manner. He also shared advice on places to visit and recommended restaurants and bars in the city.

Observation deck
Castle
Baluarte del Mirador is a picturesque observation point located on an ancient fortress, providing stunning panoramic views of the city and its beaches from an elevated vantage point. It's recommended to avoid visiting during the scorching midday heat in summer. Nearby attractions include a bar with scenic views, Paseo Nuevo for leisurely strolls, and opportunities for urban hiking. Visitors can also explore the museum at the top of the fortress for a nominal fee to enhance their experience.
Great views of the city, beaches and mountain. We went at sunset and it was beautiful. Would recommend.
Nicki M — Google review
The observation deck originally dated back from 16th century and later evolved into a bastion. It provides panoramic views of San Sebastián’s coastline, including La Concha Bay, Zurriola Beach, and the surrounding cityscape. You can walk up from the San Telmo musuem and it take about 15 mins to get there.
Simon L — Google review
Great views and nice getaway from the sun! The park is very green and has shade which makes it cooler than other places. It’s a good walk around 2 km (both ways) and the views are soo good!
Ivet B — Google review
Amazing views up here of the two beaches and also San Sebastián. Took us about 15 minutes to walk up to the observation point and you will be greeted with a free postcard panoramic view of the beach and town. Highly recommended!
Wai W — Google review
To go up to the top, it takes around 30 min with all the stops for photos and enjoying the view. To go down it also takes some time but on the way down you have a great viewpoint at the other surfing beach so make sure not to miss it! It's worth seeing for sure. Probably my favourite view in the whole city.
Tea ( — Google review
Another great photo opportunity on the way to the top or on the way down whichever way you you make your way to the top, please wear good flat shoes, the pathways are step and rocky, wheelchair access may be possible as I did see roadways on the way up but please check with the local tourist office

It was an especially important defensive site, starting in the 12th century. Today, Monte Urgull draws visitors for its views of the city and bay, La Concha and Ondarreta beaches, Santa Clara Island, and Monte Igueldo, the western headland.

Sculpture
Construcción Vacía, also known as Empty Sculpture, is a remarkable artwork located at the base of Monte Urgull in San Sebastián. Created by renowned artist Jorge Oteiza, this sculpture offers a unique and thought-provoking experience for visitors. Its beautiful color and deep symbolism make it highly representative of Basque art. The sculpture is not only visually stunning but also invites interaction, adding an extra layer to its appeal.
"Empty Construction" by Jorge Oteiza was erected in 2002. It is a reproduction, on a monumental scale, of a piece made by the sculptor in 1957. It consists of two pieces of steel weighing 12.5 and 10.5 tonnes respectively, which rest on a wood-clad concrete platform. Jorge Oteiza himself chose this location, to connect visually with Eduardo Chillida's "Comb of the Wind", situated at the other end of La Concha Bay. Its appearance changes depending on the angle it is viewed, and its location encourages people to interact with it.
Kent W — Google review
Nice sculpture in corten steel in front of Chillida´s "Comb of the winds"

A place worth visiting, just 20 minute walk from downtown. The sculpture is beautiful but more impressive are the ocean and island views. I highly recommend the walk, a must see when you visit the city

Sabrina D — Google review
The sculpture is fantastic! And can be interpreted differently as approached, then passed. Beautiful color(patina), very deep and highly representative of Basques (sculptors, ie chillida). I mistook it at first for chillida. There was a boy climbing on it when I was there. A bonus for any sculpture in my book. Interaction.. Very impressive, nice work.

San Sebastian Trips & Experiences offers a variety of day tours from San Sebastian. One tour takes you to the Guggenheim and other scenic destinations, with a stop at a great seafood restaurant. Another tour goes from San Sebastian to the French Basque coast up to Biarritz, where you can enjoy delicious lunch and sightseeing in a comfortable Mercedes motor coach.
Prior to our trip to Spain. We signed up for a tour with Alex. It proved to be a great idea. He picked us up on a very comfortable Air-conditioned Van from our hotel right on time. Gave us a nice history of the area as we went to the Guggenheim followed by some other scenic destinations. He even made a reservation at a great seafood restaurant with some food recs. He would drop us off and pick us up right when it was time to go to the next destination. Very amazing tour. Highly recommend for tourists or even locals.
Robin M — Google review
Great experience and service! We had booked Alex for an evening pintxo tour in the old town and hike in the valleys followed by lunch at a cider house. We were a group of 8 guys and the whole experience was perfect. Alex has a relaxed approach and made the whole thing fun and interesting. He was also helpful in suggesting more bars and restaurants for us to go. Overall, one of the best guides who I would highly recommend if you’re in the area.

RIOJA WINE TOUR After spending a delightful day exploring Saint Jean de Luz and Biarritz and French Basque , out tour guide Alex, recommended a tour of the Rioja Wine Region. We agreed and two days later were on the road to visit wineries:Roda, Muga, and Solitierra among others. All well chosen for variety. Every winery was enjoyable savoring how delicious and unique Spanish wines taste. As a sojourn , we stopped at San Vicente de La Sonsieria to take in the sweeping vistas in all directions of this striking countryside from the bell tower of a twelfth century church - the Heritage of Santa Santa Maria de La Piscina. Afterwards, we visited the winery Bodegas Marques de Riscal , its dramatic building is designed by Frank Gehry and enjoyed a well prepared tapas lunch while sitting next to the beautifully maintained gardens . Back on the road again, our last stop was an archeological site, El Dolmen del Alto de la Huesera, a Neolithic era burial structure , with magnificent views of the mountains in the background. All in all , a perfect day spent with Alex! Alex is a true professional ( punctual , personable, verbally gifted and keenly knowledgeable of the regions culture). He is at ease changing things up to fit your interests and pace. We highly recommend Alex ! With pleasure, Leo Mondor, James Kwan

We had a great day with Alex and our tour to La Rioja. He showed us some great wineries and we tasted some delicious wines -we definitely recommend Alex and his tours Thankyou so much.
Kirk S — Google review
I can't recommend Alex enough! Our group of 8 was looking for something different to do, and all being wine lovers, a day to La Rioja was a perfect option. We threw out some winery ideas (Lopez de Heredia was at the top of our list) and Alex helped fill in the gaps. As we can get chatty, behind the scenes he made adjustments to ensure a stress-free and seamless experience. In addition to coordinating a traditional (and delicious) lunch, we made a quick stop at el Castillo de San Vicente. The place was incredible, as we were able to get a panoramic view of the vibrant fall-colored vines. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. We hope to go back and have Alex take us fly fishing next time! Eskerrik asko, Alex!!!
Izar B — Google review
We had a wonderful day fly fishing on the most gorgeous river with Alex! He’s very kind, took care of all our equipment, and is extremely knowledgeable in terms of great fishing spots and the best way to spend a day on the river.
Whitney W — Google review
Alex was an amazing guide for us yesterday on our tour from San Sebastián across the border north into France to visit the French Basque coast up to Biarritz. Alex knows all the best routes to take and places to stop. We had many opportunities to stop and walk to see the sights and even visit shops and farmers markets. We had a delicious lunch in Biarritz followed by time to sightsee and shop. And all in the comfort of a new Mercedes motor coach that was air conditioned and so comfortable and safe. I highly recommend Alex for his experience, professionalism and knowledge!
Paul S — Google review
We had a great day in Rioja with Alex. We visited four very different wineries and he went out of his way to help us figure out a way to get our purchases back to the US safely. We saw a couple of larger groups with 6-10 people in them and realized how glad we were to have our own private experience with such great access. I wish we had more time so we could try a few other tours with Alex - specifically the fly fishing and French Basque country. Next time!

I visited this park on a Saturday morning. It was peaceful. There were other people there as well. There are buildings to see, a cafe, a playground, a waterfall, a palace, walking paths, a pond, and all the beautiful plants you would expect to see at a park. I enjoyed the walk and things to see.

Fun & Games
Casino Kursaal Luckia is a small yet charming casino located in the heart of Igeldo. It offers a variety of classic games such as roulette, blackjack, and slot machines for visitors to enjoy. The establishment also features a restaurant where guests can dine and unwind. Igeldo itself has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century, with landmarks like the funicular, gardens, and luxury hotel still standing today.
Great spot to sit and relax while having some fun!

I'd stay away from this place. Completely not safe. The auto roulette machine are completely rigged. Can be managed and changed from an external computer. The time between spins then can change and cut u off early on known winning numbers. U see alot of neighbours. Cover these and u get even more neighbours. I will be reporting this casino. As its not a safe place to bet. U won't even see a bounce off these machines. Completely rigged.
Gary P — Google review
Friendly staff and seems like has a lot of potential to be good but I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t open up another cash table for the poker. With a multitude of people wanting to play it just makes no sense. Having spoke to a lot of regular players here it’s always just one table and once players get a spot there’s next to no chance of getting on. Literally need to book a spot at midday.. So strange
Adam M — Google review
Casino Kursaal Luckia: They took all my money (20 euros). The experience was disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a fair game. Save your money and find entertainment elsewhere (Maybe i'm just mad I lost).

Nice small casino in the centre staff was friendly and very welcoming! I made a reservation for the poker game, but i got lost on the way. So I ran a little late, made a call and no problem. They held the seat. The poker game is extremely soft!! And very fun to play. You will have to dodge the donkey that calls u with a runner runner draw. But they also pay the most if u do have it! All in all fun game will definitely return.
Jlee N — Google review
We came here after dinner to play some blackjack. We went straight upstairs to their table game room. The minimum bet at the blackjack table was 2.50 euros. They also had the best rules I have seen in Spain. They allow surrender and doubling on any total of two cards. The other players were friendly as were the dealers and managers. I would have liked a little more atmosphere, I would recommend making the music a little louder and offering drinks. I will be back if I am in town again.
