Bar Txepetxa is a long-standing tavern known for its convivial atmosphere and delicious anchovy snacks and sandwiches. The small, cheap pintxos offer a variety of flavors, from savory options like vinegary giardiniera and tapenade to sweeter combinations such as foie gras with apple compote and blueberry jam. Despite its unassuming appearance, the bar has attracted foodies and celebrities alike, with photos on the wall showcasing famous visitors.
I still dream of the blueberry anchovy pintxos! Who would have thought this combo would work WOW!! This is a pintxos bar that specialises in anchovy so if you love anchovies this is the spot for you!! We got 5 to share as it was still way before 12pm and I don’t usually eat breakfast. Each was delicious in its own way. We started with salted anchovy just to try on its own and it was goooood. Then we worked our way down the menu and got peppers with onions, sea urchin cream, blueberry and then salmon. Highly recommend visiting here for a snack or a full meal. The beers are great and service was friendly too!
Karen T — Google review
Perfect perfect perfect!!!! For an anchovy lover this is heaven on earth. Every bite is a delight. I recommend the blueberry one! The one with pepper and onion. Lastly don’t miss the hot tapa with cod - it was divine as well.
Dana L — Google review
Anchovy heaven. If you love anchoas/ boquerones you will love this place. My favourite was the one with blueberry! 🤪 crowded but just work your way to the front of bar. The bartenders are very quick. English menu provided just pick and choose and point at what you want.
C H — Google review
Very friendly servers and it’s probably one of the few pintxo bars where there’s a/c and you feel cool inside. Lovely decor and very very quick service! Although not much space, you can definitely find yourself a little space to eat and drink. It mainly serves anchovies dishes, instead of other seafood/meat. So if you don’t like anchovies, don’t come! It’s won a few awards I believe and very well deserved! My favourite is the crab meat with anchovy but if you don’t like the roe/seafood taste, opt for olives or peppers with anchovies. Food was just amazing! Go for Txakolí wine for the local experience 🥰😌
Sharon C — Google review
What an experience! It gets packed very fast and thus the ordering is very chaotic. The service men are friendly though and make sure you’ll get yours eventually. The taste is incredible! No wonder everyone wants a piece!
Johannes R — Google review
Loads of fun...but it's just anchovies with toppings. If you like anchovies, great! If you don't, I wouldn't go here. The bread is subpar, but such is Spain. (Unless we're talking about glass bread, which is incredible, but not served here. As a matter of fact, many things are not served here.) My wife and I both loved the calamari dearly. The joint is down-home, it's funky, and like the rest of San Sebastian, touristy to the core. The narrow menu is a gimmick, after all. But don't take my word for it: Ian McKellen ate here!
Jon L — Google review
Blueberries and anchovies sounds wrong but it works as the sweetness balances out the saltiness. It's probably the best one on the menu! The vinaigrette in the blueberry jam makes it moreish and you'll be asking for more. Coconut and anchovies was interesting but the coconut overpowered the anchovies slightly. The Norwegian salmon pairs well with the anchovy or you can have it on its own. You can't go wrong with any items on the menu as the anchovies are delicious and flavour combos are solid. Whether it's pate, tuna or peppers, it's down to your personal preference. Wash it down with a beer or txakoli and you have the perfect pintxos pairing. As one of the most popular pinxtos bars in the area, it is often busy but it adds to the atmosphere. Service is quick with an interesting tannoy system where they shout your order to the back kitchen. Staff are friendly and efficient. Pintxos are reasonable at €3 especially at this quality.
Jason K — Google review
3 eur for excellent pintzos. I tried option one with crab cream which was quite intense and option two with peppers and onion which was more balanced with the crunch and lightness from the vegetables. Perfectly seasoned, quick friendly service, highly recommend even if you’re not an anchovy fan.

La Viña is a casual cafe that has been a staple in San Sebastian since 1959. It's renowned for its small plates and the famous Basque burnt cheesecake, which originated here in the 1990s and has gained international fame. The cafe is also known for its regional wines. Situated on a street lined with some of the town's best pintxo bars, La Viña stands out as a must-visit spot.
La Viña is known for its lively and energetic atmosphere, attracting many travelers. This spot is indeed a must-try, particularly for its Basque burnt cheesecake. Here, of course, we enjoyed dishes other than cheesecake. The service was friendly and inviting and the seating was comfortable. We would definitely recommend stopping by.
Achino N — Google review
Cheesecake cheesecake and more cheesecake. The most famous place for cheesecake in the region. Is it the best one? You'd have to go to the other places that some locals say are also good or better, but it's certainly a fantastic cheesecake, and the best one I had. Basque style.
Marc B — Google review
The line is crazy but you should just get it and order quickly. Honestly, I expected more from this place but it was pretty mid, extremely overpacked and loud. The basque cheesecake we came for was €6,50 for the portion which they split into two slices for better taste I guess was really good (but we expected something much more delicious for the price and hype this place has). When you take it to go they just give prepacked box with cheesecake inside, maybe this affected somehow
Nargiza A — Google review
Great cheesecake! Place is packed pretty much every night we passed by it though you can share a table with other people. Easier to get seats if you’re not a big group.
Mikaela M — Google review
The line was pretty short on a Wednesday afternoon. We ordered their famous Basque cheesecake. It was absolutely delicious. It is lighter and creamier than I've ever had and less sweet. My only regret was getting only one slice per person!
C P — Google review
Incredible. We were only going to have the cheesecake as we heard this was the top place to go. But we couldn’t resist the other dishes too. The gentleman who served us was so friendly and always smiling. We had the meatball, stuffed mussels, plate of jamón and chorizo. Everything was exceptional.
Bav M — Google review
I came a little earlier so missed the big rush, but it was still busy. Good part is I didn’t have to wait in line, only a few minutes at the counter. After trying it I get what the hype is all about. Best description I give is that it was very flavorful, creamy, and the most delectable cheesecake I’ve had. I would say it was a cheesecake with a consistency and texture of flan. Compared to the amount of business they get it’s quite small inside so seating can be difficult. Going early, helped as I was able to secure a place to sit and enjoy my cheesecake.
Roya M — Google review
La Vina lived up to expectations! Have been wanting to come here my whole life and the standards were high. Was definitely not disappointed because I came back four days straight for my whole time in San Sebastián!! The cheesecake is pretty much fresh everytime you visit because it’s best sold within 36 hours but I’m sure they sell out faster than that! You get two slices per order so you can eat in smaller portions and enjoy the taste of the cheese rather than swallowing larger portions. The outer layer is only slightly denser than the creamy middle. It melts in your mouth and is just pure perfection. Highly recommend!!

Bodegon Alejandro is a trendy, low-lit venue offering seasonal tasting menus featuring game or fish dishes paired with wine. The restaurant is the brainchild of Natalia and Jordi, who honed their skills in renowned establishments like El Cau del Pescador and Bodegon Alejandro in the Basque Country before bringing their expertise to Costa Brava.
The food was excellent, we had the spider crab and the Txuleta with fries, a green salad and peppers. Affordable for the quality. We went with the our two kids 9 and 10’and everyone loved it. The service was slow but it was busy and it seemed like maybe only one waiter was taking the orders but everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is unique, being downstairs. I would dine here again.
Heather D — Google review
We had the lunch tasting menu. Overall, food was quite good. I really enjoyed the crab dish that has the white foam on top, anchovy and the tuna fillet. French toast with cheese ice cream was pretty good too. The rest were honestly quite normal, nothing extraordinary but not shitty. Service was good too though! Would still recommend going! Gave a 3 for atmosphere mostly because it was quite stuffy, given its summer and aircon is not great in there.
Yvonne ( — Google review
This place is BY FAR my favorite restaurant the whole time here. Perhaps I had really high expectations of San Sebastian, but I find the three michelin Arzak a little underwhelming, and the popular pinxto bars too chaotic and unpleasant. This place is nestled in the basement and when we got to dinner, it was a nice mix of locals and tourists. The service was friendly (not a guarantee in this city) and the food omg the food. I had started to lose hope in the food in this city until I tasted the dishes here. They started with a refreshing gazpacho and beautiful wafers. The wafers were so thin and a little nutty, absolutely delicious. The bread here was stunny, crusty on the outside and moist on the inside - a definite must order as most of their dishes have sauces they are so good you just want to wipe it up with bread. We ordered ala carte and each dish just left us hungrier - that’s when you know a restaurant is good. They had baby mussels in season which was served in a homemade marinana sauce - what delicate and sweet mussels, and the sauce was earthy and satisfying. The spider crab with pil pil foam was equally outstanding - chunks of marinated hot crab meat which blends well with the aromatic garlic flavor of the foam. Heaven. The squid in its own sauce was another winner - perfectly cooked squid in umami black ink sauce. My favorite dish of the night was the local ceps mushrooms with runny egg. The mushrooms were so aromatic and exploding with flavors from being cooked in spanish sherry and pepper, such a delightful dish. They serve a good selection of spanish wines by the glass and dessert was equally outstanding. The pistachio souffle blew me away, rich pistachio cream amidst a light souffle and the figs with cream was very good as well. Definitely will be back whenever here.
Keira H — Google review
We ordered the tasting menu, which was absolutely a fantastic meal well worth the price you pay. Starter was this interesting wafer with some white soup? This seem given extra, and was interesting and quite delicious. The trio of leek consommé, marinated anchovy and crab with some form, was a good mix. All quite different, all complemented each other well. The slow cook egg with a bit of truffle was a combo that worked. The grilled hake was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious, and the highlight of the meal. Pork loin, was tender, but a little ordinary compared to the excellent fish. Dessert was ok. French toast was soaked in syrup, but the cheese ice cream, although sounding a little strange, was interesting and we enjoyed it. All in, fantastic value for money tasting menu and highly recommended!
Soo G — Google review
Walked in around 230pm and had a tasting menu by myself. Saw it was a Michelin 2025 restaurant, my expectations were high, but it turned out was just a 4 star experience. Perhaps it's because of the time closer to their 3pm closing time. However, people were still dining beyond 4pm, which was nice for the accommodation. No wow moment but everything was delectable. The only thing stands out was actually the bread which has a good crust and very flavorful. A few dishes were too salty for my liking. The desserts were my least appreciated. Not sure why they were granted Michelin 🤔
Elaine K — Google review
I’ll do my best to keep the reviews short and sweet as it get longer For me Michelin starred restaurants offer an experience which is a combination of the food, the tastes and presentation but also as important the service which I expect will be spoiling Judging by the criteria above, our experience wasn’t perfect but was still very amazing I’ll start with the menus, I like to take a tasting menu but when there are thee dishes I can’t eat, it took some attention to find replacement, I’ll explain later why this wasn’t the best experience but once we sorted the alternatives we could start - we also added the wine pairing. The balance of the portions, between portions which reset the flavours before introducing new flavours was done brilliantly, there were clear transition with palate cleanser portions which refreshed the mouth. The amount of food was very generous. At the end, we couldn’t fit a mini biscuits when we were done and I’ll be honest we thought we were done and still had two more things to eat (one on the menu and one that wasn’t) Another point to know, the cost was very fair for a Michelin restaurant a I’ve attached pictures of the menu for reference but this is a very good value ratio to cost The few negative nuggets, We popped over a day before the booking to tell them what we don’t each eat so they can plan to offer replacements but when we came there was no memory of our visit the prior day Our table was wobbly which I did not expect at a restaurant such as this I didn’t really feel that there was experience with the wine options All in all, a great experience and I would highly recommend
Ronnen B — Google review
I had an unforgettable experience at Bodega Alejandro. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the staff set the tone for the evening—they were genuinely accommodating with pescatarian substitutions, making the entire tasting menu feel tailored without missing a beat. Every course was a thoughtful balance of tradition and creativity. The leek royale with mushroom consommé was delicate and earthy, a perfect opening. The marinated anchovy with peppers captured the essence of Donostia in one bite, while the spider crab with pil-pil foam was rich and decadent without being heavy. The slow-cooked egg with Idiazabal consommé was comfort and elegance in a single spoonful. The fish dishes were absolute standouts—the grilled tuna with spring onion and piquillo peppers and the grilled hake were both cooked with precision and carried the kind of flavor that only comes from respect for the ingredient itself. Dessert was no afterthought either: the seasonal fruit with mascarpone cream refreshed the palate, while the caramelised French toast with ice cream was indulgence at its finest—golden, crisp, and impossible not to finish. The service matched the food—attentive without ever being intrusive, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest felt welcome. Bodega Alejandro isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to experience San Sebastián’s culinary soul. If you’re looking for a meal that’s equal parts comforting and extraordinary, this is it.

Food excellent. Opted to skip tasting menu and get full kg of Monkfish, with spicy peppers and grilled octopus appetizers. Was delicious. French toast dessert incredible. Not the coziest dining room, kinda strange design and music but once it filled up the atmosphere was better. Would defo go back for food

Maiatza is a must-visit spot in the Old Town of Donostia San Sebastian, offering a 100% vegetarian menu that caters to vegans as well. This charming eatery is open all day, making it an ideal choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu features a delightful array of vegan and vegetarian options, including Spanish ham on toast, carrot cake, sweet pastries, and fresh juice.
Amazing cheese, lovely coffee and nice terrace outside. They were quick, friendly staff. I would highly recommend. The traditional cheese cake is my favorite but if you can, it is worth to try pistachio as well.
Rachel M — Google review
We came here for breakfast — everything looked beautiful and nicely presented. My vegan sandwich was tasty and well-balanced. However, my friend’s salmon and egg dish was overly salty. Unfortunately, both the coffee and the tea latte were very watery and lacked flavor, and the same goes for the smoothie — it tasted bland and diluted.
Eugenia T — Google review
Had brunch at Maiatza and ordered the croque madame, a special toast with bacon, and fresh juice. Everything was fine, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. An acceptable option if you’re nearby, but not a must-visit.

Staff are nice and friendly, service and food was great. We stopped by for brunch and later came back for the basque cheesecake. Definitely recommended!

The best breakfast in town. Recommended by our hotel receptionist we were delighted to breakfast here twice. The staff are just lovely and the food is sensational . Adding a yummy smoothie to our order fuelled us up for a day of sightseeing and we just loved the relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for starting our mornings so deliciously.

Oiartzun is a renowned pastry cafe located at the entrance gate of the Old Town, offering a delightful array of sweet treats and gourmet products. The second-generation pastry chef, David Martin, upholds his father's tradition by creating delectable desserts from the finest ingredients with love. Visitors can enjoy their coffee and choose from specialty croissants, Basque cake, truffles, and eclairs on the cozy terrace with great views of the town hall and Boulevard main drag.
The best bakery in the city. I came back three times. The service is fast but surprisingly they don't speak English. Compared to last year the prices are way higher but similar to any other place in the city.

A traditional patisserie with a great selection of local delicious cakes and pastries. We tried the Gozua and Pastel Vasco. Yummy and rich. Friendly service and tasty coffee.

Loved this place! Came every morning for a pastry (especially the Vasco cake!) and a cafe con leche when in town. They are fast, efficient, and they sure had plenty available. It was a great breakfast or sweet treat stop with so many delicious choices! Definitely recommend going!

We visited this bakery after hearing it recommended for its Basque cheesecake, and it did not disappoint. The cake was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it while visiting San Sebastián

Cannot fault this corner bakery where over 6 days we went there everyday and tried something different for breakfast accompanied by the best cappuccino. Everything is made in house.
Caroline L — Google review
This is one of those stores were you spend some time trying to decide what to get, because after all you want to try everything they have. Those pastries are so aesthetically pleasing! And the prices are very reasonable, not high at all for the offered product. For us, it was the first place where we tried the traditional gâteau basque and we absolutely loved it, even though we can't quite compare it to any other. Would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance so I can get more unique and beautiful pastries.

Lovely pastelería on the edge of San Sebastian's old town selling a tasty selection of fine baked goods as well as artisan chocolate and truffles. The grande Pastel Tasco (almond tart) was absolutely delicious and was the standout item for me, although we tried a number of different cakes which were all lovely. Very friendly service, and a great location. Easily found if you are approaching the old town from the Centro area or the beach.

Bakery
Nestled just across from the stunning Zurriola beach, The Loaf has transformed from a humble pop-up bakery in a shipping container to a beloved mini-chain of local shops. With its vibrant storefront and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, it beckons visitors with an array of freshly baked delights like flaky croissants, rich palmiers, and unique turmeric-spiced pan de curcuma.
Delicious. The tostada and coffee in the morning was great - as is the basque cheesecake which is absolutely amazing - and you can get it in a box to takeaway

The Loaf has your perfect breakfast, brunch or coffee takeaway. 🍞🍰☕️🏖️ The first time was summer ‘22 and those brownies at the beach right in front were delicious!🤤 This time I enjoyed some delicious avocado and tomato toast 🥑🍅 and worked inside for awhile. Really lovely people and a place I love coming back to! ☺️🙏🏼 Eskerrik Asko / Thank you team!

The staff is super friendly! The coffee is decent, and croissant I had lovely and flaky. It might have been time of the day, or because there was a marathon on the day I visited, but the selection seems a bit limited, and nothing that really would stand out versus other coffee shops/cafes/bakeries... hence the 3 stars. In a nutshell - if you’re there, you won’t be too disappointed... but it’s not somewhere I think you should go out of your way to find.

burnt basque cheesecake has become internationally renowned over the last few years and when we walked past the loaf, we knew we had to try it in its original birthplace of San Sebastián. So so delicious and balanced. Creamy and moist without being over rich and a perfect crust. We still dream of it and will be back next we are in town. We could see that the baker was one of passion and dedication to perfection of the curated selection that they make :)

I had the tarta de queso Vasca and an oat latte - delicious. Highly recommend trying the Basque cheesecake. Highly recommend. Service was also very good.

Great place for a quick breakfast. Prices are decent and the bread is delicious. Really limited in terms of breakfast options, but the strawberry jam is delicious. They use coffee from Sakona which is around the corner.
Briana — Google review
Not a typical San Sebastian foodie spot but decent coffee and excellent basque cheesecake. The 2nd part of the cafe serves as a sort of shared workspace, so don't come here expecting much atmosphere!

Fantastic pastries, great espresso, super friendly multinational staff. We live just on the french side of the border but we always stop by for a banana bread (etc.) and a coffee when in Donostia. Cool spot right by Zurriola beach.

Igeldo Jatetxea is a Basque restaurant located in the port of Donostia San Sebastian, offering two atmospheres: an indoor lounge and a fabulous terrace with sea views. The menu includes deep-fried calamari and other gluten-free dishes suitable for coeliacs. Visitors praise the fresh and deliciously prepared food, such as turbot and local scallops, as well as the attentive service from friendly staff.
Delicious super fresh food , family own and run business , Maya was our server and she was super nice and professional. The location and the view are incredible nice . Highly recommend the grilled octopus and the squid croquetas, they cook them in their own ink :)

Food was really good and the service was also really good except from one part - price of the main course. When we ordered everything the bleached haired guy recommended a lot of servings that were delicious. And the Sole. What we didn't know was that it was not NOT on the menu and the most expensive dish was 68€ on the menu but they charged us 90€ without telling us - price for one fish equal to about 100 whole sardines... Luckily one of his colleagues lowered the price to 68€ when paying the bill, after complaints.
Pelle L — Google review
Yeah not bad, not great. I liked the tuna but that’s about all. The others dishes were ‘ok’. Nothing mind blowing. That being said, I liked the cake 🍰

Igeldo is in a stunning location and very popular (code for busy and this is a good thing!). The food is a reasonable price and tasty. Grilled sardines and octopus are a must!

Really fresh simple seafood beautifully cooked. Great service with staff who seamlessly went from Spanish Basque French English and Italian!!! Great value with million dollar views.

Before we go there, we call them we want to make a reservation, but the man said no need to make the reservation, waiting normally 5 mins, but when we arrive, there are two tables had the reservation.🤨🤨 We waited around 10 mins, then the food is worthy and delicious, so I gave the full score. The waiter recommended the fish, it was amazing. 🤩

Another seafood restaurant I was given as a recommendation, and it totally exceeded my expectations. Seating is covered, but in the open air on the harbour side, with views of San Sebastian in the distance - a perfect setting. The service was friendly and although the restaurant was busy, we didn't have to wait too long before we were seated. We had fried calamari, loads of scallops (3 portions in total), tomato and tuna salad, served up with that fantastic Basque cider (Sidra), and lemon beer (Damm Lemon). It was all delicious and super fresh. One of the best lunches I've had in San Sebastian, and again, something other than pintxos. Thanks to Nathan and his team - a truly delightful gastronomic experience that I would recommend to everyone!! Meal for 5 people with drinks and coffee came to €140.

Hi ! This is "Nancy" and Roger ! Thanks very much for the very good and tasty food we had. The monk fish was very nice and other dishes were fresh and cooked properly. The service was very good and professional enough; the service team provided good suggestions and drinks and food were brought to us promptly. I don't understand why other people complained ? The atmosphere was what is to be expected from family -run restaurant located on a busy pier, ie., it was laid-back, lively and no-fuss which made us felt relaxed. (people watching was great too !). Overall we were happy and will return if we are in San Sebastian again. 👍👍

Visited this popular restaurant a couple of times. Once for lunch and then had to return for the Basque Paella having seen it on the menu. Very nice. We especially enjoyed the ‘pintxos’ , Arzak, bola de carne (meat ball) and the croquettes were also very nice. It does tend to be busy all the time so sometimes things get delayed but hard working staff will do their best to serve you promptly. It does have outside space

Very kind service, but a bit expensive. We had two pantxinetas / panchinetas (amandel cakes), which were fine, but not super amazing, and a block of milk chocolate (medium size?) which was surprisingly nice. There is no space to sit inside.

Very nicely decorated place with delicious pastry. I had Basque cheesecake and pastel Vasco. Both were delicious, especially pastel Vasco, but I have to admit the cheesecake was better at La Viña. All though, I would definitely recommend the place to try amazing sweets! Too bad I didn’t try their famous Panchineta!

Pastelería Otaegui – San Sebastián In the heart of the Old Town, Otaegui is a truly authentic pastry shop 🍰✨. Yes, it’s always full of tourists (and locals too), but it still preserves its traditional charm. The highlight here is the famous Basque cheesecake – Tarta de Queso de San Sebastián 🧀🔥. Creamy inside, slightly caramelized on top, and absolutely unforgettable. The pastry displays are gorgeous 🥐🍩, the vibe is buzzing and lively, and even though it can feel crowded, that’s part of the charm 😋. If you’re in San Sebastián, this is a must-try stop — come for the cheesecake, stay for the atmosphere 🌟.

At Sweet Roma, coffee lovers can indulge in an impressive selection of brews alongside refreshing teas and natural juices.
What a sweet neighborhood bakery and cafe! It’s such a treat to have breakfast at a local eatery away from the touristy area. I was greeted warmly by barista. She recommended the brioche toast with mango and ginger jam. That’s delicious. My husband and I also had their mini croissant, cortado, latte and cappuccino. All for 10 euros. Their croissant was flaky and buttery much better than the croissant at our hotel. The interior and exterior were tastefully done and cheerful. Their cupcakes, cookies and other treats looked tempting. Sweet Roma is indeed sweet and in a beautiful area around the cathedral. A must in San Sebastián.

I came here 7 years ago, remembered it as the best ice cream I've ever had and it still stands! Highly recommend the berry cheesecake flavour - so creamy with real biscuit bits.

Great gelato, great service. They have a good variety of flavors. I tried Pistachio and Coffee and it was really well done. Good balance of flavor and sugar. They can accommodate two flavors in a small cup, some other places don't do that.

Absolutely delicious!! Lots of care taken for celiacs to ensure our ice cream remained gluten free. They even offer gluten free cones and would scoop the ice cream upstairs so it can’t be cross contaminated. But this was the best ice cream we’ve had in YEARS. Truly delicious.

Fantastic ice-cream, with many gluten free options. My wife is coeliac and the care taken by staff to ensure no cross contamination was second to none. Tasty gluten free cones, fresh scoops used to serve icecream from fresh tubs of ice-cream and thorough hand washing by the server before preparing her cone. And the ice-cream was delicious too. And very reasonable at 20 euro for 5 very generous ice cream cones. The chocolate cone was a big hit with the kids. Definitely worth a visit. Galparsoro Okindegia is a renowned bakery in Donostia, known for creating exceptional bread and pastries. The bakery's dedication to their craft is evident in the quality of their French-style baguettes, walnut and chocolate pastries, croissants with nuts, apricot pie, and sourdough bread. Despite being a local favorite with friendly staff and an expat-friendly environment, some visitors express disappointment that the bakery has not expanded beyond Donostia.
We stopped by this patisserie in San Sebastián and sampled a few different pastries, but what truly stood out was the plain croissant. It was absolutely incredible…one of the best I’ve ever had. And I say that after having croissants in Paris and across France, as well as in other places known for great pastry. This croissant was on another level: buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. A must-try for anyone visiting.

Buttery and soft croissant, not the flaky kind but it was chewier type and smells very buttery, I got one to go right before hiking up to the Castillo. Tucked behind the border or old town, and people are extremely friendly! Must get one before your hike!

KAIXO! I am eating my way through their menu. The plan is to go every morning and get one new item. I’ve been to Donostia a few times and always saw a line at this bakery. I regret not going sooner. Their menu may change throughout the week. If I remember to take a photo before I eat, I’ll add more to this review. So far I have had these items and they do not disappoint: Focaccia, Rye and Fig (centeno e higo), apricot pastry (hojaldre), muesli, pan de francais, hazelnut croissant (nueces), chocolate croissant…

Artisanal breads and pastries. I live nearby at Pension Ur-Alde so I was able to walk in 1 minute to this beautiful shop. At 9:30 am, there were 5 people in line and the aroma of the bread was enticing. The friendly server helped me with my order of a nut croissant, Kouign Amann w vanilla, Saskia (banana, vanilla, nuts) and the beautiful apricot w custard. I would’ve bought some bread but we are just 2 people. At 12 pm, I walked by again and the line was 30 people long. Definitely try to go early. REPLY TO OWNER: Label your products. With so many people waiting, it’s not fair to ask the server to name each pastry.

This really is the best bakery in San Sebastián. I was helped by a lovely lady who was very friendly and helpful. I had the plain brioche which was very buttery and fresh and an apricot and custard viennoiserie. The latter had a caramelised top which was crunchy and the filling was delicious.

Bassk Cheesecakers in San Sebastian has gained a reputation for serving the world's favorite cheesecake. Visitors rave about its delightful, fluffy texture and mouthwatering vanilla flavor that melts in your mouth. Despite its delicacy, it is described as filling and worth every penny. The store offers takeaway slices in individual cartons, making it a convenient treat to enjoy on the go.
This tender cheesecake just melts in the mouth. You can either choose classic or chocolate one. It is as good as at La Vinã, where it was created.
Олексій І — Google review
This franchise offers two varieties of Basque cheesecake: the classic and a chocolate version. I tried the chocolate one, and while it wasn’t bad, it felt more like a mousse than a cheesecake. It lacked the rich, caramelized depth that makes Basque cheesecake special. If you’re looking for an authentic cheesecake experience, this one might not be the best choice. That said, the shops are clean and well-maintained, and the concept is interesting. I can’t judge their classic version, but for cheesecake lovers, the chocolate one is probably skippable

A delicious and rich cheesecake! It's simple and reasonably priced, although it's not a restaurant, but it's tastier and of higher quality than the most hyped-up establishments in the city. I've tried it in many places, but this cheesecake is one of the best (second only to the Russian Cafe Zelenograd-MILL ). I'm very satisfied with the dessert!

We walked past this place and was enticed to come in by the cake displayed in the window. The cheesecake here is creamy and smooth tasting but not too sweet. Music creates a lovely ambience and we are allowed to have the cheesecake standing in the shop. The guy serving us was very polite and patient. Slices here are €4.50 or a whole cake for €25 if you are up for it! Glad we popped in to try this place! Only take away and no sit down at this particular branch.

If someone is in front of you, take it easy, if there are a lot of people I won't even tell you and they have a hard time clearing the tables, you have to clear them yourself if you don't want to drink your coffee with remains of the previous ones. Gelatería Boulevard is a popular spot in San Sebastián, drawing both locals and tourists with its delicious and generously loaded cones. The gelateria offers a variety of flavors, including yoghurt and turron, which are perfect for enjoying on a hot day. Despite the crowds, visitors find the ice cream to be affordable and worth the wait. With multiple locations across the city, it's convenient to grab a refreshing treat while exploring San Sebastián.
Best ice cream/ Gelato in San Sebastián! The staff is super friendly and they have a lot of options of favors to choose. They gave you a big portion of ice cream and they are very authentic. Highly recommended.
Sina H — Google review
Delicious Gelato with huge servings and a large variety of flavors. Would be great if the flavors were presented in English as well given how many there are to choose ftom and the speed in which you need to place your order.
Eleanora B — Google review
Went there twice and loved it both times! Tried the Kinder Bueno and Choc Pistachio, both were really good. Flavours are spot on, price is reasonable, and the portion size is generous. Definitely worth a visit!
Lili C — Google review
Best Gelato in San Sebastian by far. Do you won’t be disappointed and there’s lots to choose and mix. And the little cone on top the perfect addition and a treat.
Doug W — Google review
I stood directly in front of the counter with my 4-year-old son for nearly 20 minutes while this staff member served person after person who had just walked in. When I finally spoke up, I was told, “I didn’t see you.” That’s hard to believe, considering I was standing right in front of him with a child. Seeing who’s waiting is literally his job. It wasn’t just bad service, it was disrespect, plain and simple. I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects basic courtesy.
Kiran — Google review
Lovely service, very friendly servers. Lots of flavours to choose from and they will translate into English if you don’t understand. If you like Haagen Dazs flavours, strawberry cheesecake is to die for. Otherwise I personally like the mandarin and yoghurt flavours. Reasonable prices. Not many fruit flavours options though.

Québec Krep'Herria is a charming spot known for its delicious crepes and quick breakfast options. The crepes are of medium thickness, different from the super thin Parisian style, and come with various fillings like apple sauce, caramel ice cream, and lemon cinnamon with vanilla ice cream. Despite being busy with only one staff member working, the service is efficient and friendly. The brunch options are highly recommended for their quality and affordability.
Went there for brunch on a Sunday noon. Their brunch option is wonderful and is cheap. Good quality product and nice staff who is French, Spanish and English-speaking. Definitely recommend if you fancy a crepe.

We stopped by at this crepe shop to have something sweets. There was only one staff working so it took a long time to get what we ordered but she was nice and the crepes were tasty so we are happy. :) We came back the next to day to have more. :D
Sayaka K — Google review
Nice spot for crepes or quick breakfast / sandwich. Although he was working alone and it was pretty busy, the food came very quickly. Apple sauce crepe very nice, caramel ice cream even better. Lemon cinnamon crepe with vanilla ice cream also tasty. Crepes are nice, medium thickness, not the super thin Parisian type if that is your preferred. Eggs cooked perfectly if you like slightly hard with a little bit of run in the yolk.
Samuel K — Google review
Went here on a whim looking for a quick bite. Turns out it's really good! The service was great, the cook and server was really kind and quick. Ordering was a breeze despite our relatively low level of Spanish. I got a walnut and goat cheese crepe that was really wonderful! This place is a bit small but a great place for a quick bite with the right amount of variety to satisfy just about anyone.

Popped in for a quick hot drink which came with a biscuit. Pleasant service (Spanish / English / French speaking gentleman during my visit). The cafe played 90s rock music (English) which I enjoyed. The crepes looked pretty good but I've not tried the same.

The Nutella crepe was really delicious but the maple one was pretty average, it didn’t have much flavour even with the syrup. The portion size could’ve also been bigger. The smoothie was delicious and the server was sweet. Overall a good experience.

Arnoldo Izozki-denda is a family-run cafe that has been serving artisanal ice cream since 1935 in San Sebastian. They offer a wide variety of flavors including mango, passion fruit, white peach, sherry-soaked raisin, salted walnut, and chocolate-raspberry. In addition to ice cream cones and cups, they also serve crêpes, waffles, milkshakes, frappes, and frozen cakes.
Delicious ice cream with a fantastic variety of flavors and excellent service.

Their ice cream was good but not that special. I just feel that it’s overpriced. Service was okay, she let me try 3 different flavors of my choice since I couldn’t decide which one to have.
Naome L — Google review
I went twice in one day and asked for 2 scoops and I swear I got half a scoop of ice cream. Also the ice cream was very mediocre and expensive compared to others. Workers were also very rude and would not recommend any of the Arnoldo ice cream locations to anyone in San Sebastián. DO NOT GO
VS5 — Google review
Watch out if you are a tourist. When paying the staff forcibly chose GBP instead of EUR on the card machine. I asked her not to, as it costs me more money because of exchange rate, and she told me that her manager has ordered her to do that for all transactions. This is a known scam so that they can charge their own rates and pocket the difference. Avoid!!
Cathal W — Google review
Artifical flavour. Ice cream tub with a small ball of ice cream inside. Ridiculous. Better to go to other nearby ice cream shops. Very small portions for the price you pay. You're supposed to put a ball for a cone, not for a tub. The tub is supposed to be filled with ice cream without leaving any gaps. This is how it is supposed to be
Shivam V — Google review
I would say go elsewhere. Tried the tiramisu flavour which was too icy and to be fair tasted nothing like anything. On top of that the lady was abrupt, rude and cold to say the least. I had two tastes and binned around the corner.
Mark — Google review
Not sure what happened, but we tried the churros here back in March of 2023 (2nd picture), and they were great then. Last night we tried them again, and they were so bland. Tasteless, and just plain awful. It was incredibly disappointing, to say the least, because up to yesterday, they were excellent. It's visible in the pictures that they're doing something different now. Whatever it is, it's not to anyone who has taste buds favor.

I asked the lady serving me what her favourite flavour was and she recommended the passion fruit one with condensed milk on the inside and she then dipped it in white chocolate. The passion fruit wasn't too sour and the white chocolate wasn't overly sweet. I also tried the basque cheesecake from here and it was very nice. Not overly sweet.

My partner had the classic cheesecake, and like others have said it’s a really unusual cream cheese flavour - it’s neither sweet nor savoury. Rather unusual and wouldnt say it was an enjoyable experience eating it. I had the caramelised chocolate flavoured one and really enjoyed it, wasn’t too sweet and pleasant texture.

Amazing ice-cream/popsicles, with vegan options too! Allergens are labeled on all of the different flavors and they have a few vegan sorbet type of flavors and also a vegan chocolate made from almond milk. I was too full to try a vegan one, but my husband loved his non-vegan one. Plus it's very affordable at under 4 euros even with the toppings. Love it. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Delicious breakfast to be had in this lovely cafe overlooking the Kursaal theatre and concert hall and the pier. I had the avocado, cheese and tomato toast (a couple of avocado pieces were too green; it was the only thing that I can complain about) and a huge coffee, more like a tank of coffee. Probably the biggest white coffee I’ve ever had.

We had Basque cheesecake, it was delicious but could be more fresh, coffee Americano was ok. It was spacious inside and there were tables available outside. The toilets were clean. The price was normal, 2 coffee and 2 slices of deserts were like 12 €.

Blatant racism and humiliation. I was treated horribly just for not finding the bathroom. The staff spoke to me like I was a thief, made a scene in front of everyone, and even asked diners who I was with to “make sure” I wasn’t stealing. From the start, they ignored us like we didn’t exist. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Do not come here.

We stumbled upon this small café by chance, tucked under the arches on the corner of an old building. With its small tables, it charmed us with its offerings, so we returned the next morning. The coffee is good, the fresh juices are healthy, and they offer a variety of healthy breakfast and brunch options, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan meals. Everything was delicious. The prices are a bit high, but we’ll definitely return.

Very cosy cafe to sit and enjoy a Basque breakfast. Great fresh orange juice, great coffee, they even had honey to put in my espresso:) loved the quiet time there. They also have a good variety of tostadas and a looot of delicious little sweet things :) and they are very nice.

Great spot for brunch on the edge of the square. In a city with so many calorific options this was a great little spot to chill and recover!

It’s a lovely (and cheap) café to have a quick bite in central San Sebastian. The tostadas were fresh and delicious and the coffees were great, too. They had oat milk which is always appreciated! The service could’ve been faster, but with so many people it’s expected.

Visited everyday since arriving in San Sabastion and will be one of my most missed spots when leaving. They have some of the best Chai I've ever had as well as having a vegan breakfast sandwich option, fresh fruit, and a smoothie!

Tasty and friendly breakfast on Gorka square. When you need more than a coffee and a pastry, Amelie delivers. Fresh squeezed orange juice, tasty warmed croissant with ham and cheese, several types of breakfast bagels, empanadas, tomato toast and very good coffee. Lovely cafe tables looking over green Gorka square and super friendly staff. Breakfast for two with warm sandwich, cappuccino and large fresh OJ, and bottled carrot/OJ was 18 euros

Lovely ice cream at great prices but we both had two different flavours and my husband became quite ill later that day and myself the next day. It was the only thing we both ate the same. However, to my surprise, when I opened it, it was aged, with the typical white layer of poorly maintained or old chocolate. The flavor wasn't the same either. Paying €7 for this seems like a rip-off. Lurka Chocolate is a must-visit spot in San Sebastian for chocolate lovers. The aroma of chocolate greets you as you step inside, and the brownies and chocolate cake are described as intense, aromatic, and authentic. Visitors highly recommend trying the cheesecake with white chocolate for its simple yet complex flavors. I’ve been to San Sebastián a few times and discovered Lurka soon after they opened. I’ve been back every time since and always recommend my friends go if they visit the city. As a result, I’ve become a chocolate mule (see pics..!) with friends and family in the UK putting in their orders to me for when I visit..!! Truly love the place, the atmosphere is so cosy and friendly with a great mix of local regulars and newcomers, the staff are charming and the chocolate and coffees are honestly the best I’ve found. While the pastries here are delicious the lady who works there tried to scam us by trying to give us back less change than we were owed MULTIPLE times. A cookie and chocolate croissant was 4 euros and we gave her 20 euros. She gave us five euros back initially. Then we reminded her we gave her 20 euros. She then gave us 10 euros back. When we challenged it again she finally gave us 15 euros back and we were too tired to ask for the extra euro we were owed. They should not be in business.

Yes nice bakery, but the lady serving was so rude. I asked her two things - what’s inside one of the pastries and how much. She was very unhappy to speak to me in English even though I said I’m sorry I do I don’t speak Spanish or French. She told me rudely I should learn it and was whispering something in Spanish under her breath. Made me feel so unwelcome and I couldn’t enjoy the coffee or the pastry as much as I would have. Crazy stuff.

(Translated by Google) I went for my birthday, I wanted to take advantage of the promotion code and Laila (cashier) in a very despotic way told me no, immediately afterwards I bought it for my whole family since we were there and we felt like it and when paying I wanted her to activate my code to generate stars and she denies me the option again since she is “very busy” and had already served another customer, what level of DISORDER and DISAPPOINTMENT I get, a shame but I won't RETURN even if they give me the entire ice cream parlor, I stayed so as not to give her an explanation to my children about how bad I've had it...
