Perfect perfect perfect!!!! For an anchovy lover this is heaven on earth. Every bite is a delight. I recommend the blueberry one! The one with pepper and onion. Lastly don’t miss the hot tapa with cod - it was divine as well.

Anchovy heaven. If you love anchoas/ boquerones you will love this place. My favourite was the one with blueberry! 🤪 crowded but just work your way to the front of bar. The bartenders are very quick. English menu provided just pick and choose and point at what you want.

Very friendly servers and it’s probably one of the few pintxo bars where there’s a/c and you feel cool inside. Lovely decor and very very quick service! Although not much space, you can definitely find yourself a little space to eat and drink. It mainly serves anchovies dishes, instead of other seafood/meat. So if you don’t like anchovies, don’t come! It’s won a few awards I believe and very well deserved! My favourite is the crab meat with anchovy but if you don’t like the roe/seafood taste, opt for olives or peppers with anchovies. Food was just amazing! Go for Txakolí wine for the local experience 🥰😌

What an experience! It gets packed very fast and thus the ordering is very chaotic. The service men are friendly though and make sure you’ll get yours eventually. The taste is incredible! No wonder everyone wants a piece!

Loads of fun...but it's just anchovies with toppings. If you like anchovies, great! If you don't, I wouldn't go here. The bread is subpar, but such is Spain. (Unless we're talking about glass bread, which is incredible, but not served here. As a matter of fact, many things are not served here.) My wife and I both loved the calamari dearly. The joint is down-home, it's funky, and like the rest of San Sebastian, touristy to the core. The narrow menu is a gimmick, after all. But don't take my word for it: Ian McKellen ate here!

Blueberries and anchovies sounds wrong but it works as the sweetness balances out the saltiness. It's probably the best one on the menu! The vinaigrette in the blueberry jam makes it moreish and you'll be asking for more. Coconut and anchovies was interesting but the coconut overpowered the anchovies slightly. The Norwegian salmon pairs well with the anchovy or you can have it on its own. You can't go wrong with any items on the menu as the anchovies are delicious and flavour combos are solid. Whether it's pate, tuna or peppers, it's down to your personal preference. Wash it down with a beer or txakoli and you have the perfect pintxos pairing. As one of the most popular pinxtos bars in the area, it is often busy but it adds to the atmosphere. Service is quick with an interesting tannoy system where they shout your order to the back kitchen. Staff are friendly and efficient. Pintxos are reasonable at €3 especially at this quality.

3 eur for excellent pintzos. I tried option one with crab cream which was quite intense and option two with peppers and onion which was more balanced with the crunch and lightness from the vegetables. Perfectly seasoned, quick friendly service, highly recommend even if you’re not an anchovy fan.

Cheesecake cheesecake and more cheesecake. The most famous place for cheesecake in the region. Is it the best one? You'd have to go to the other places that some locals say are also good or better, but it's certainly a fantastic cheesecake, and the best one I had. Basque style.

The line is crazy but you should just get it and order quickly. Honestly, I expected more from this place but it was pretty mid, extremely overpacked and loud. The basque cheesecake we came for was €6,50 for the portion which they split into two slices for better taste I guess was really good (but we expected something much more delicious for the price and hype this place has). When you take it to go they just give prepacked box with cheesecake inside, maybe this affected somehow

Great cheesecake! Place is packed pretty much every night we passed by it though you can share a table with other people. Easier to get seats if you’re not a big group.

The line was pretty short on a Wednesday afternoon. We ordered their famous Basque cheesecake. It was absolutely delicious. It is lighter and creamier than I've ever had and less sweet. My only regret was getting only one slice per person!

Incredible. We were only going to have the cheesecake as we heard this was the top place to go. But we couldn’t resist the other dishes too. The gentleman who served us was so friendly and always smiling. We had the meatball, stuffed mussels, plate of jamón and chorizo. Everything was exceptional.

I came a little earlier so missed the big rush, but it was still busy. Good part is I didn’t have to wait in line, only a few minutes at the counter. After trying it I get what the hype is all about. Best description I give is that it was very flavorful, creamy, and the most delectable cheesecake I’ve had. I would say it was a cheesecake with a consistency and texture of flan. Compared to the amount of business they get it’s quite small inside so seating can be difficult. Going early, helped as I was able to secure a place to sit and enjoy my cheesecake.

La Vina lived up to expectations! Have been wanting to come here my whole life and the standards were high. Was definitely not disappointed because I came back four days straight for my whole time in San Sebastián!! The cheesecake is pretty much fresh everytime you visit because it’s best sold within 36 hours but I’m sure they sell out faster than that! You get two slices per order so you can eat in smaller portions and enjoy the taste of the cheese rather than swallowing larger portions. The outer layer is only slightly denser than the creamy middle. It melts in your mouth and is just pure perfection. Highly recommend!!

We had the lunch tasting menu. Overall, food was quite good. I really enjoyed the crab dish that has the white foam on top, anchovy and the tuna fillet. French toast with cheese ice cream was pretty good too. The rest were honestly quite normal, nothing extraordinary but not shitty. Service was good too though! Would still recommend going! Gave a 3 for atmosphere mostly because it was quite stuffy, given its summer and aircon is not great in there.

This place is BY FAR my favorite restaurant the whole time here. Perhaps I had really high expectations of San Sebastian, but I find the three michelin Arzak a little underwhelming, and the popular pinxto bars too chaotic and unpleasant. This place is nestled in the basement and when we got to dinner, it was a nice mix of locals and tourists. The service was friendly (not a guarantee in this city) and the food omg the food. I had started to lose hope in the food in this city until I tasted the dishes here. They started with a refreshing gazpacho and beautiful wafers. The wafers were so thin and a little nutty, absolutely delicious. The bread here was stunny, crusty on the outside and moist on the inside - a definite must order as most of their dishes have sauces they are so good you just want to wipe it up with bread. We ordered ala carte and each dish just left us hungrier - that’s when you know a restaurant is good. They had baby mussels in season which was served in a homemade marinana sauce - what delicate and sweet mussels, and the sauce was earthy and satisfying. The spider crab with pil pil foam was equally outstanding - chunks of marinated hot crab meat which blends well with the aromatic garlic flavor of the foam. Heaven. The squid in its own sauce was another winner - perfectly cooked squid in umami black ink sauce. My favorite dish of the night was the local ceps mushrooms with runny egg. The mushrooms were so aromatic and exploding with flavors from being cooked in spanish sherry and pepper, such a delightful dish. They serve a good selection of spanish wines by the glass and dessert was equally outstanding. The pistachio souffle blew me away, rich pistachio cream amidst a light souffle and the figs with cream was very good as well. Definitely will be back whenever here.

We ordered the tasting menu, which was absolutely a fantastic meal well worth the price you pay. Starter was this interesting wafer with some white soup? This seem given extra, and was interesting and quite delicious. The trio of leek consommé, marinated anchovy and crab with some form, was a good mix. All quite different, all complemented each other well. The slow cook egg with a bit of truffle was a combo that worked. The grilled hake was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious, and the highlight of the meal. Pork loin, was tender, but a little ordinary compared to the excellent fish. Dessert was ok. French toast was soaked in syrup, but the cheese ice cream, although sounding a little strange, was interesting and we enjoyed it. All in, fantastic value for money tasting menu and highly recommended!

Walked in around 230pm and had a tasting menu by myself. Saw it was a Michelin 2025 restaurant, my expectations were high, but it turned out was just a 4 star experience. Perhaps it's because of the time closer to their 3pm closing time. However, people were still dining beyond 4pm, which was nice for the accommodation. No wow moment but everything was delectable. The only thing stands out was actually the bread which has a good crust and very flavorful. A few dishes were too salty for my liking. The desserts were my least appreciated. Not sure why they were granted Michelin 🤔

I’ll do my best to keep the reviews short and sweet as it get longer For me Michelin starred restaurants offer an experience which is a combination of the food, the tastes and presentation but also as important the service which I expect will be spoiling Judging by the criteria above, our experience wasn’t perfect but was still very amazing I’ll start with the menus, I like to take a tasting menu but when there are thee dishes I can’t eat, it took some attention to find replacement, I’ll explain later why this wasn’t the best experience but once we sorted the alternatives we could start - we also added the wine pairing. The balance of the portions, between portions which reset the flavours before introducing new flavours was done brilliantly, there were clear transition with palate cleanser portions which refreshed the mouth. The amount of food was very generous. At the end, we couldn’t fit a mini biscuits when we were done and I’ll be honest we thought we were done and still had two more things to eat (one on the menu and one that wasn’t) Another point to know, the cost was very fair for a Michelin restaurant a I’ve attached pictures of the menu for reference but this is a very good value ratio to cost The few negative nuggets, We popped over a day before the booking to tell them what we don’t each eat so they can plan to offer replacements but when we came there was no memory of our visit the prior day Our table was wobbly which I did not expect at a restaurant such as this I didn’t really feel that there was experience with the wine options All in all, a great experience and I would highly recommend

I had an unforgettable experience at Bodega Alejandro. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the staff set the tone for the evening—they were genuinely accommodating with pescatarian substitutions, making the entire tasting menu feel tailored without missing a beat. Every course was a thoughtful balance of tradition and creativity. The leek royale with mushroom consommé was delicate and earthy, a perfect opening. The marinated anchovy with peppers captured the essence of Donostia in one bite, while the spider crab with pil-pil foam was rich and decadent without being heavy. The slow-cooked egg with Idiazabal consommé was comfort and elegance in a single spoonful. The fish dishes were absolute standouts—the grilled tuna with spring onion and piquillo peppers and the grilled hake were both cooked with precision and carried the kind of flavor that only comes from respect for the ingredient itself. Dessert was no afterthought either: the seasonal fruit with mascarpone cream refreshed the palate, while the caramelised French toast with ice cream was indulgence at its finest—golden, crisp, and impossible not to finish. The service matched the food—attentive without ever being intrusive, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest felt welcome. Bodega Alejandro isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to experience San Sebastián’s culinary soul. If you’re looking for a meal that’s equal parts comforting and extraordinary, this is it.

Food excellent. Opted to skip tasting menu and get full kg of Monkfish, with spicy peppers and grilled octopus appetizers. Was delicious. French toast dessert incredible. Not the coziest dining room, kinda strange design and music but once it filled up the atmosphere was better. Would defo go back for food

We came here for breakfast — everything looked beautiful and nicely presented. My vegan sandwich was tasty and well-balanced. However, my friend’s salmon and egg dish was overly salty. Unfortunately, both the coffee and the tea latte were very watery and lacked flavor, and the same goes for the smoothie — it tasted bland and diluted.

Had brunch at Maiatza and ordered the croque madame, a special toast with bacon, and fresh juice. Everything was fine, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. An acceptable option if you’re nearby, but not a must-visit.

Staff are nice and friendly, service and food was great. We stopped by for brunch and later came back for the basque cheesecake. Definitely recommended!

The best breakfast in town. Recommended by our hotel receptionist we were delighted to breakfast here twice. The staff are just lovely and the food is sensational . Adding a yummy smoothie to our order fuelled us up for a day of sightseeing and we just loved the relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for starting our mornings so deliciously.

Delicious breakfast in the heart of the city with a wonderful view of the church. We had Eggs Benedict – one with salmon and the other with bacon. Everything was very tasty, and the coffee was excellent!

A traditional patisserie with a great selection of local delicious cakes and pastries. We tried the Gozua and Pastel Vasco. Yummy and rich. Friendly service and tasty coffee.

Loved this place! Came every morning for a pastry (especially the Vasco cake!) and a cafe con leche when in town. They are fast, efficient, and they sure had plenty available. It was a great breakfast or sweet treat stop with so many delicious choices! Definitely recommend going!

Cannot fault this corner bakery where over 6 days we went there everyday and tried something different for breakfast accompanied by the best cappuccino. Everything is made in house.

This is one of those stores were you spend some time trying to decide what to get, because after all you want to try everything they have. Those pastries are so aesthetically pleasing! And the prices are very reasonable, not high at all for the offered product. For us, it was the first place where we tried the traditional gâteau basque and we absolutely loved it, even though we can't quite compare it to any other. Would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance so I can get more unique and beautiful pastries.

Lovely pastelería on the edge of San Sebastian's old town selling a tasty selection of fine baked goods as well as artisan chocolate and truffles. The grande Pastel Tasco (almond tart) was absolutely delicious and was the standout item for me, although we tried a number of different cakes which were all lovely. Very friendly service, and a great location. Easily found if you are approaching the old town from the Centro area or the beach.

The Loaf has your perfect breakfast, brunch or coffee takeaway. 🍞🍰☕️🏖️ The first time was summer ‘22 and those brownies at the beach right in front were delicious!🤤 This time I enjoyed some delicious avocado and tomato toast 🥑🍅 and worked inside for awhile. The staff is super friendly! The coffee is decent, and croissant I had lovely and flaky. It might have been time of the day, or because there was a marathon on the day I visited, but the selection seems a bit limited, and nothing that really would stand out versus other coffee shops/cafes/bakeries... hence the 3 stars. In a nutshell - if you’re there, you won’t be too disappointed... but it’s not somewhere I think you should go out of your way to find.

burnt basque cheesecake has become internationally renowned over the last few years and when we walked past the loaf, we knew we had to try it in its original birthplace of San Sebastián. So so delicious and balanced. Creamy and moist without being over rich and a perfect crust. We still dream of it and will be back next we are in town. We could see that the baker was one of passion and dedication to perfection of the curated selection that they make :)

I had the tarta de queso Vasca and an oat latte - delicious. Highly recommend trying the Basque cheesecake. Highly recommend. Service was also very good.

Great place for a quick breakfast. Prices are decent and the bread is delicious. Really limited in terms of breakfast options, but the strawberry jam is delicious. They use coffee from Sakona which is around the corner.

Not a typical San Sebastian foodie spot but decent coffee and excellent basque cheesecake. The 2nd part of the cafe serves as a sort of shared workspace, so don't come here expecting much atmosphere!

Fantastic pastries, great espresso, super friendly multinational staff. We live just on the french side of the border but we always stop by for a banana bread (etc.) and a coffee when in Donostia. Cool spot right by Zurriola beach.

Food was really good and the service was also really good except from one part - price of the main course. When we ordered everything the bleached haired guy recommended a lot of servings that were delicious. And the Sole. What we didn't know was that it was not NOT on the menu and the most expensive dish was 68€ on the menu but they charged us 90€ without telling us - price for one fish equal to about 100 whole sardines... Luckily one of his colleagues lowered the price to 68€ when paying the bill, after complaints.

Yeah not bad, not great. I liked the tuna but that’s about all. The others dishes were ‘ok’. Nothing mind blowing. That being said, I liked the cake 🍰

Igeldo is in a stunning location and very popular (code for busy and this is a good thing!). The food is a reasonable price and tasty. Grilled sardines and octopus are a must!

Really fresh simple seafood beautifully cooked. Great service with staff who seamlessly went from Spanish Basque French English and Italian!!! Great value with million dollar views.

Before we go there, we call them we want to make a reservation, but the man said no need to make the reservation, waiting normally 5 mins, but when we arrive, there are two tables had the reservation.🤨🤨 We waited around 10 mins, then the food is worthy and delicious, so I gave the full score. The waiter recommended the fish, it was amazing. 🤩

Another seafood restaurant I was given as a recommendation, and it totally exceeded my expectations. Seating is covered, but in the open air on the harbour side, with views of San Sebastian in the distance - a perfect setting. The service was friendly and although the restaurant was busy, we didn't have to wait too long before we were seated. We had fried calamari, loads of scallops (3 portions in total), tomato and tuna salad, served up with that fantastic Basque cider (Sidra), and lemon beer (Damm Lemon). It was all delicious and super fresh. One of the best lunches I've had in San Sebastian, and again, something other than pintxos. Thanks to Nathan and his team - a truly delightful gastronomic experience that I would recommend to everyone!! Meal for 5 people with drinks and coffee came to €140.

Hi ! This is "Nancy" and Roger ! Thanks very much for the very good and tasty food we had. The monk fish was very nice and other dishes were fresh and cooked properly. The service was very good and professional enough; the service team provided good suggestions and drinks and food were brought to us promptly. I don't understand why other people complained ? The atmosphere was what is to be expected from family -run restaurant located on a busy pier, ie., it was laid-back, lively and no-fuss which made us felt relaxed. (people watching was great too !). Overall we were happy and will return if we are in San Sebastian again. 👍👍

Visited this popular restaurant a couple of times. Once for lunch and then had to return for the Basque Paella having seen it on the menu. Took a while to cook but it was well worth the wait, The Pintxos Arzak was also delicious. Service here is excellent and you can sit indoors or out the front. Great atmosphere. Always busy

We have been all over town and this place is our favorite. Food is excellent no matter which selection you pick from the menu. Chicken, steak, cod and lamb chops are delicious! The service is fantastic. Staff is very friendly. Highly recommend if not in Old Town.

La Rebotika (Brasa Bar&Denda) is an absolute gem. This spot is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff make you feel right at home. The food is Outstanding. Every dish is prepared the way you want it with passion and precision. The grilled meats are a standout—cooked to perfection over the brasa, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Their seasonal sides and fresh, local ingredients elevate everything on the menu. The staff is fantastic…..I love this place…..

Very nice. We especially enjoyed the ‘pintxos’ , Arzak, bola de carne (meat ball) and the croquettes were also very nice. It does tend to be busy all the time so sometimes things get delayed but hard working staff will do their best to serve you promptly. It does have outside space

Good food in a busy restaurant. Decent selection of gluten free and dairy free food - the waiter was knowledgable of the menu and able to advise which meals were suitable for dietary requirements.

Very kind service, but a bit expensive. We had two pantxinetas / panchinetas (amandel cakes), which were fine, but not super amazing, and a block of milk chocolate (medium size?) which was surprisingly nice. There is no space to sit inside.

Very nicely decorated place with delicious pastry. I had Basque cheesecake and pastel Vasco. Both were delicious, especially pastel Vasco, but I have to admit the cheesecake was better at La Viña. All though, I would definitely recommend the place to try amazing sweets! Too bad I didn’t try their famous Panchineta!

I had my favorite Cheesecake in all of Basque country here. It’s a little on the sweeter side but really good.

Yes, it’s always full of tourists (and locals too), but it still preserves its traditional charm. The highlight here is the famous Basque cheesecake – Tarta de Queso de San Sebastián 🧀🔥. Creamy inside, slightly caramelized on top, and absolutely unforgettable. The pastry displays are gorgeous 🥐🍩, the vibe is buzzing and lively, and even though it can feel crowded, that’s part of the charm 😋. If you’re in San Sebastián, this is a must-try stop — come for the cheesecake, stay for the atmosphere 🌟.

Amazing pantxineta and cheesecake! Both were light and perfectly balanced in sugar and texture. At first, we weren’t sure if we could finish both, but in the end, there wasn’t a single bite left :)

The oldest pastry around and the items were simply a delight to look at as well as to savour! We ordered the panchitteria and it was mouth watering. It closes at 8:30pm though so go grab your sweets early.

September 2022 All about mint green. The shop, the equipment all very 'sweet'. The coffee is good, maybe can be a bit stronger but good coffee. Ladies are extremely nice with a quick service. Make all in house. Peeked into their refrigerator :-) and of course try their cup cakes. I went for the Sweet Roma - delicious.

I started coming regularly to Sweet Roma after moving to this area recently. I was really missing cupcakes (as they’re common in the US but not so much here) so I tried this place out and was hooked! The staff are super friendly and change up their selection every so often to try something new. I’ve also ordered birthday cakes here a couple of times and they do an excellent job. A super cute cafe with plenty of tasty baked goods!

Great gelato, great service. They have a good variety of flavors. I tried Pistachio and Coffee and it was really well done. Good balance of flavor and sugar. They can accommodate two flavors in a small cup, some other places don't do that.

Absolutely delicious!! Lots of care taken for celiacs to ensure our ice cream remained gluten free. They even offer gluten free cones and would scoop the ice cream upstairs so it can’t be cross contaminated. But this was the best ice cream we’ve had in YEARS. Truly delicious.

This is the best Oreo ice cream I’ve ever had - grey, smooth, and completely saturated with dissolved Oreo flavor. The cones are surprisingly delicious. Interesting local flavors.

Fantastic ice-cream, with many gluten free options. My wife is coeliac and the care taken by staff to ensure no cross contamination was second to none. Tasty gluten free cones, fresh scoops used to serve icecream from fresh tubs of ice-cream and thorough hand washing by the server before preparing her cone. And the ice-cream was delicious too. And very reasonable at 20 euro for 5 very generous ice cream cones. The chocolate cone was a big hit with the kids. Definitely worth a visit. Especially if you are coeliac and crave an ice-cream cone.

Buttery and soft croissant, not the flaky kind but it was chewier type and smells very buttery, I got one to go right before hiking up to the Castillo. Tucked behind the border or old town, and people are extremely friendly! Must get one before your hike!

KAIXO! I am eating my way through their menu. The plan is to go every morning and get one new item. I’ve been to Donostia a few times and always saw a line at this bakery. I regret not going sooner. So far I have had these items and they do not disappoint: Focaccia, Rye and Fig (centeno e higo), apricot pastry (hojaldre), muesli, pan de francais, hazelnut croissant (nueces), chocolate croissant…

At 9:30 am, there were 5 people in line and the aroma of the bread was enticing. The friendly server helped me with my order of a nut croissant, Kouign Amann w vanilla, Saskia (banana, vanilla, nuts) and the beautiful apricot w custard. I would’ve bought some bread but we are just 2 people. At 12 pm, I walked by again and the line was 30 people long. Definitely try to go early. REPLY TO OWNER: Label your products. This really is the best bakery in San Sebastián. I was helped by a lovely lady who was very friendly and helpful. I had the plain brioche which was very buttery and fresh and an apricot and custard viennoiserie. The latter had a caramelised top which was crunchy and the filling was delicious.

Brioche was sadly sold out at 1pm but I enjoyed the custard pastry and chocolate choux we got instead. It’s not a must do but if you’re in the area, it’s worth trying. The ladies here don’t speak English but a kind fellow customer helps us order.
