Tapas bar
Borda Berri is a vibrant pintxos bar that offers an array of intense slow-cooked dishes infused with Basque and international flavors. The menu features delectable options such as the renowned "crunchy" pig's ear, pork rib kebab, cod tripe, veal cheeks, mushroom risotto, squid ink ravioli, and tender octopus. These dishes are served on small plates with perfectly seasoned sauces, garnishes, and flavorful local olive oils.
Best pintxos in town! Besides the pork ribs, get the cod neck/cheeks and the risotto! All simple dishes but done well. Bar is quite small and very popular so eating here might be a tad chaotic. But a great experience overall 😋🔥

Absolutely blown away — this place was incredible. I went right at opening time, and it was already full. The menu, the quality, the service, the value — everything was perfect. I couldn’t resist going back again in the evening, and the atmosphere was even more amazing. People were happily spilling out onto the street — the place was full of life. What surprised me most was that the same staff who were serving at full speed in the morning were still working just as energetically at night. Their dedication and consistency were truly impressive. This is the kind of restaurant I’d want to visit every single time. A true gem.
MASA ( — Google review
This was my first stop in San Sebastián and it did not disappoint. The restaurant was super crowded and service is crazy hectic. But everything we ordered was incredible. The cod pil pil, entrecôte, risotto. Went back to try the kebab pork ribs as they were sold out that evening and it was delicious as well. Definitely a place to stop by. It was less crowded when we went back for lunch.
Wyelin C — Google review
Authentic pinxtos bar, with an incredible atmosphere. The dishes were delicious, would recommend the Costilla de Cerdo. Always full to the point of splling into the street - wrestle your way to the bar, order and then find a place to eat. Many people grab a dish and opt to stand and eat in the street. Quite loud and intense inside but that somewhat adds to the experience. Drinks were great, try the local cider. We had several dishes and a drink each (2 people) and that came to around €25
Ben W — Google review
🌟 Overall: 8/10 Tried: White ravioli – 8/10: Very good flavour, will recommend this dish. Veal – 7/10: Good but nothing special, feels like a nice dish but doesn’t wow me. Pig ear – 8/10: Lovely done! I can go back to eat this again.
Emily C — Google review
After a successful visit yesterday, today trying the Cod Pil Pil the fish was raw and inedible, and the beef entrecot was so blue and raw it was also inedible. Super dissapointing and I wonder if the chef changed as yesterday the pork ribs, and the veal cheek were both really nice. But any place this inconsistent and serves raw food should be avoided.
Brad H — Google review
Food was unbelievable here. Pork rib was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It’s super busy but you’ll eventually get served - you just need to be confident. Get a few things to try & ask for recommendations. Seriously good food and atmosphere.

All 3 items we ordered which was the risotto, the beef cheeks and ribs were really good! While the food was good, staffs weren't that friendly.

Oiartzun is a renowned pastry cafe located at the entrance gate of the Old Town, offering a delightful array of sweet treats and gourmet products. The second-generation pastry chef, David Martin, upholds his father's tradition by creating delectable desserts from the finest ingredients with love. Visitors can enjoy their coffee and choose from specialty croissants, Basque cake, truffles, and eclairs on the cozy terrace with great views of the town hall and Boulevard main drag.
The best bakery in the city. I came back three times. The service is fast but surprisingly they don't speak English. Compared to last year the prices are way higher but similar to any other place in the city.

A traditional patisserie with a great selection of local delicious cakes and pastries. We tried the Gozua and Pastel Vasco. Yummy and rich. Friendly service and tasty coffee.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Lots of tasty deserts, sweets, chocolate and coffee. Very small place, but lots of things to choose from.
Anton R — Google review
Loved this place! Came every morning for a pastry (especially the Vasco cake!) and a cafe con leche when in town. They are fast, efficient, and they sure had plenty available. It was a great breakfast or sweet treat stop with so many delicious choices! Definitely recommend going!
Jennifer D — Google review
We visited this bakery after hearing it recommended for its Basque cheesecake, and it did not disappoint. The cake was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it while visiting San Sebastián
Uri Y — Google review
Cannot fault this corner bakery where over 6 days we went there everyday and tried something different for breakfast accompanied by the best cappuccino. Everything is made in house.
Caroline L — Google review
This is one of those stores were you spend some time trying to decide what to get, because after all you want to try everything they have. Those pastries are so aesthetically pleasing! And the prices are very reasonable, not high at all for the offered product. For us, it was the first place where we tried the traditional gâteau basque and we absolutely loved it, even though we can't quite compare it to any other. Would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance so I can get more unique and beautiful pastries.
Mary P — Google review
Lovely pastelería on the edge of San Sebastian's old town selling a tasty selection of fine baked goods as well as artisan chocolate and truffles. The grande Pastel Tasco (almond tart) was absolutely delicious and was the standout item for me, although we tried a number of different cakes which were all lovely. Very friendly service, and a great location. Easily found if you are approaching the old town from the Centro area or the beach.

Bodegon Alejandro is a trendy, low-lit venue offering seasonal tasting menus featuring game or fish dishes paired with wine. The restaurant is the brainchild of Natalia and Jordi, who honed their skills in renowned establishments like El Cau del Pescador and Bodegon Alejandro in the Basque Country before bringing their expertise to Costa Brava.
The food was excellent, we had the spider crab and the Txuleta with fries, a green salad and peppers. Affordable for the quality. We went with the our two kids 9 and 10’and everyone loved it. The service was slow but it was busy and it seemed like maybe only one waiter was taking the orders but everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is unique, being downstairs. I would dine here again.
Heather D — Google review
We had the lunch tasting menu. Overall, food was quite good. I really enjoyed the crab dish that has the white foam on top, anchovy and the tuna fillet. French toast with cheese ice cream was pretty good too. The rest were honestly quite normal, nothing extraordinary but not shitty. Service was good too though! Would still recommend going! Gave a 3 for atmosphere mostly because it was quite stuffy, given its summer and aircon is not great in there.
Yvonne ( — Google review
This place is BY FAR my favorite restaurant the whole time here. Perhaps I had really high expectations of San Sebastian, but I find the three michelin Arzak a little underwhelming, and the popular pinxto bars too chaotic and unpleasant. This place is nestled in the basement and when we got to dinner, it was a nice mix of locals and tourists. The service was friendly (not a guarantee in this city) and the food omg the food. I had started to lose hope in the food in this city until I tasted the dishes here. They started with a refreshing gazpacho and beautiful wafers. The wafers were so thin and a little nutty, absolutely delicious. The bread here was stunny, crusty on the outside and moist on the inside - a definite must order as most of their dishes have sauces they are so good you just want to wipe it up with bread. We ordered ala carte and each dish just left us hungrier - that’s when you know a restaurant is good. They had baby mussels in season which was served in a homemade marinana sauce - what delicate and sweet mussels, and the sauce was earthy and satisfying. The spider crab with pil pil foam was equally outstanding - chunks of marinated hot crab meat which blends well with the aromatic garlic flavor of the foam. Heaven. The squid in its own sauce was another winner - perfectly cooked squid in umami black ink sauce. My favorite dish of the night was the local ceps mushrooms with runny egg. The mushrooms were so aromatic and exploding with flavors from being cooked in spanish sherry and pepper, such a delightful dish. They serve a good selection of spanish wines by the glass and dessert was equally outstanding. The pistachio souffle blew me away, rich pistachio cream amidst a light souffle and the figs with cream was very good as well. Definitely will be back whenever here.
Keira H — Google review
We ordered the tasting menu, which was absolutely a fantastic meal well worth the price you pay. Starter was this interesting wafer with some white soup? This seem given extra, and was interesting and quite delicious. The trio of leek consommé, marinated anchovy and crab with some form, was a good mix. All quite different, all complemented each other well. The slow cook egg with a bit of truffle was a combo that worked. The grilled hake was cooked perfectly, absolutely delicious, and the highlight of the meal. Pork loin, was tender, but a little ordinary compared to the excellent fish. Dessert was ok. French toast was soaked in syrup, but the cheese ice cream, although sounding a little strange, was interesting and we enjoyed it. All in, fantastic value for money tasting menu and highly recommended!
Soo G — Google review
Walked in around 230pm and had a tasting menu by myself. Saw it was a Michelin 2025 restaurant, my expectations were high, but it turned out was just a 4 star experience. Perhaps it's because of the time closer to their 3pm closing time. However, people were still dining beyond 4pm, which was nice for the accommodation. No wow moment but everything was delectable. The only thing stands out was actually the bread which has a good crust and very flavorful. A few dishes were too salty for my liking. The desserts were my least appreciated. Not sure why they were granted Michelin 🤔
Elaine K — Google review
I’ll do my best to keep the reviews short and sweet as it get longer For me Michelin starred restaurants offer an experience which is a combination of the food, the tastes and presentation but also as important the service which I expect will be spoiling Judging by the criteria above, our experience wasn’t perfect but was still very amazing I’ll start with the menus, I like to take a tasting menu but when there are thee dishes I can’t eat, it took some attention to find replacement, I’ll explain later why this wasn’t the best experience but once we sorted the alternatives we could start - we also added the wine pairing. The balance of the portions, between portions which reset the flavours before introducing new flavours was done brilliantly, there were clear transition with palate cleanser portions which refreshed the mouth. The amount of food was very generous. At the end, we couldn’t fit a mini biscuits when we were done and I’ll be honest we thought we were done and still had two more things to eat (one on the menu and one that wasn’t) Another point to know, the cost was very fair for a Michelin restaurant a I’ve attached pictures of the menu for reference but this is a very good value ratio to cost The few negative nuggets, We popped over a day before the booking to tell them what we don’t each eat so they can plan to offer replacements but when we came there was no memory of our visit the prior day Our table was wobbly which I did not expect at a restaurant such as this I didn’t really feel that there was experience with the wine options All in all, a great experience and I would highly recommend
Ronnen B — Google review
I had an unforgettable experience at Bodega Alejandro. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the staff set the tone for the evening—they were genuinely accommodating with pescatarian substitutions, making the entire tasting menu feel tailored without missing a beat. Every course was a thoughtful balance of tradition and creativity. The leek royale with mushroom consommé was delicate and earthy, a perfect opening. The marinated anchovy with peppers captured the essence of Donostia in one bite, while the spider crab with pil-pil foam was rich and decadent without being heavy. The slow-cooked egg with Idiazabal consommé was comfort and elegance in a single spoonful. The fish dishes were absolute standouts—the grilled tuna with spring onion and piquillo peppers and the grilled hake were both cooked with precision and carried the kind of flavor that only comes from respect for the ingredient itself. Dessert was no afterthought either: the seasonal fruit with mascarpone cream refreshed the palate, while the caramelised French toast with ice cream was indulgence at its finest—golden, crisp, and impossible not to finish. The service matched the food—attentive without ever being intrusive, and genuinely invested in making sure every guest felt welcome. Bodega Alejandro isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to experience San Sebastián’s culinary soul. If you’re looking for a meal that’s equal parts comforting and extraordinary, this is it.
Chinthaka W — Google review
Food excellent. Opted to skip tasting menu and get full kg of Monkfish, with spicy peppers and grilled octopus appetizers. Was delicious. French toast dessert incredible. Not the coziest dining room, kinda strange design and music but once it filled up the atmosphere was better. Would defo go back for food

Maiatza is a must-visit spot in the Old Town of Donostia San Sebastian, offering a 100% vegetarian menu that caters to vegans as well. This charming eatery is open all day, making it an ideal choice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu features a delightful array of vegan and vegetarian options, including Spanish ham on toast, carrot cake, sweet pastries, and fresh juice.
Amazing cheese, lovely coffee and nice terrace outside. They were quick, friendly staff. I would highly recommend. The traditional cheese cake is my favorite but if you can, it is worth to try pistachio as well.
Rachel M — Google review
We came here for breakfast — everything looked beautiful and nicely presented. My vegan sandwich was tasty and well-balanced. However, my friend’s salmon and egg dish was overly salty. Unfortunately, both the coffee and the tea latte were very watery and lacked flavor, and the same goes for the smoothie — it tasted bland and diluted.
Eugenia T — Google review
Had brunch at Maiatza and ordered the croque madame, a special toast with bacon, and fresh juice. Everything was fine, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. An acceptable option if you’re nearby, but not a must-visit.

Staff are nice and friendly, service and food was great. We stopped by for brunch and later came back for the basque cheesecake. Definitely recommended!

The best breakfast in town. Recommended by our hotel receptionist we were delighted to breakfast here twice. The staff are just lovely and the food is sensational . Adding a yummy smoothie to our order fuelled us up for a day of sightseeing and we just loved the relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for starting our mornings so deliciously.

Churreria Santa Lucía, formerly known as Café Santa Lucía, is a must-visit spot in the Parte Vieja (Old Town) of the city. This diner has been serving up delicious churros and hot chocolate since 1956. It's a popular destination for those with a sweet tooth, offering a range of chocolatey treats including waffles, tostadas, and pastries.
This was such a nice find for us. We were looking for a place to get breakfast when we ran into this churreria. For 8 euros, we got two coffees, two croissants and a portion of churros. Everything was tasty, and the coffee was nice and hot. It's an experience in and of itself to sit in here and enjoy the vibe of the place. Definitely recommend going here, lunch and dinner is also possible.
Thirza S — Google review
Stumbled across this place that looked so old school. The churros were okay, not bad at all, but we had better in Madrid. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is wonderfully old school. Priced are good and the kids loved it.
Vivian S — Google review
Great and authentic chocolate and churros! We got the recommendation from a local and he said it's the best place to try it. It's a cantina-like restaurant which feels definetely local and not at all touristic. Can recommend :)
Max B — Google review
I didn’t come here for the chocolate and churros, which was my first mistake. My second—amd final—mistake was ordering the seafood paella. Instead I was served a soggy “seafood” pasta dish. The servers claimed that’s what I asked for, but it wasn’t. Needless to say, it was all downhill from there.
Robert L — Google review
Best best churos store ever. 5* chocolate dip. Very local style. Kind service.
Chayut O — Google review
The best churros we've ever had! The chocolate was not too sweet and the churros were freshly made. Really decent price to. The place is very busy and feels a bit like a greasy spoon, but don't be fooled, it is a good choice for cheap food.
Christian F — Google review
We felt like these were the best churros we’ve had in Spain. Period. Fresh, hot, crisp outside and doughy soft inside.

Came to this place for their hot chocolate and churros. Didn’t disappoint. This place is not flashy but serves great drinks and chocolate. Give it a try.

The Otaegui cake shop is a well-known institution in San Sebastian for its high-quality desserts. The original bakery opened in 1886 and has since been joined by several branches around town, all of which offer the same excellent quality and customer service.
Excellent pastries they are some of the best we have ever eaten. There is a good variety to choose from. It is a simple shop with no seating, so be prepared to eat your pastries elsewhere.
Toby L — Google review
Very kind service, but a bit expensive. We had two pantxinetas / panchinetas (amandel cakes), which were fine, but not super amazing, and a block of milk chocolate (medium size?) which was surprisingly nice. There is no space to sit inside.

Very nicely decorated place with delicious pastry. I had Basque cheesecake and pastel Vasco. Both were delicious, especially pastel Vasco, but I have to admit the cheesecake was better at La Viña. All though, I would definitely recommend the place to try amazing sweets! Too bad I didn’t try their famous Panchineta!

I had my favorite Cheesecake in all of Basque country here. It’s a little on the sweeter side but really good.

Pastelería Otaegui – San Sebastián In the heart of the Old Town, Otaegui is a truly authentic pastry shop 🍰✨. Yes, it’s always full of tourists (and locals too), but it still preserves its traditional charm. The highlight here is the famous Basque cheesecake – Tarta de Queso de San Sebastián 🧀🔥. Creamy inside, slightly caramelized on top, and absolutely unforgettable. The pastry displays are gorgeous 🥐🍩, the vibe is buzzing and lively, and even though it can feel crowded, that’s part of the charm 😋. If you’re in San Sebastián, this is a must-try stop — come for the cheesecake, stay for the atmosphere 🌟.

Amazing pantxineta and cheesecake! Both were light and perfectly balanced in sugar and texture. At first, we weren’t sure if we could finish both, but in the end, there wasn’t a single bite left :)

Nestled on Sanchez Toca Street 3, just behind the stunning Buen Pastor Cathedral in San Sebastian, Sweet Roma is a delightful café that feels like a cozy retreat. This charming spot is renowned for its warm atmosphere and friendly staff who greet you with genuine smiles. At Sweet Roma, coffee lovers can indulge in an impressive selection of brews alongside refreshing teas and natural juices.
What a sweet neighborhood bakery and cafe! It’s such a treat to have breakfast at a local eatery away from the touristy area. I was greeted warmly by barista. She recommended the brioche toast with mango and ginger jam. That’s delicious. My husband and I also had their mini croissant, cortado, latte and cappuccino. All for 10 euros. Their croissant was flaky and buttery much better than the croissant at our hotel. The interior and exterior were tastefully done and cheerful. Their cupcakes, cookies and other treats looked tempting. Sweet Roma is indeed sweet and in a beautiful area around the cathedral. A must in San Sebastián.

September 2022 All about mint green. The shop, the equipment all very 'sweet'. The coffee is good, maybe can be a bit stronger but good coffee. Ladies are extremely nice with a quick service. Make all in house. Peeked into their refrigerator :-) and of course try their cup cakes. I went for the Sweet Roma - delicious.

Beautiful little coffee shop with some pf the best coffee weve had in San Sebastian. A must if you are visiting here.

Very cute cafeteria, with delicious coffee and cupcakes. Prices very reasonable. 10/10
Tomasz B — Google review
Good coffee and muffins. The reason for me to not give 5 stars is the fact that they do allow dogs inside. I think this is disgusting, I don’t want someone’s smelly dog in the room while having breakfast.

Super place. Great coffee. Delicious cheesecake. Can’t add photos as I ate everything too quickly.

Fantastic coffee, smoothies, cheesecake, and pastries! Very cute and friendly.

I started coming regularly to Sweet Roma after moving to this area recently. I was really missing cupcakes (as they’re common in the US but not so much here) so I tried this place out and was hooked! The staff are super friendly and change up their selection every so often to try something new. I’ve also ordered birthday cakes here a couple of times and they do an excellent job. A super cute cafe with plenty of tasty baked goods!

Try the gorbea, which is a local take on the millefeuille, it's fantastic!
David G — Google review
We bought a piece of Gorbea. A bit messy to eat but extremely delicious. € 3.20 each, not that cheap but kind of “massive”.

Brilliant. Had a cream croissant and one of their specialties, a "herradura". Stands for horseshoe. So, so tasty and made with care. Service was nice and quick!

Bakery
Galparsoro Okindegia is a renowned bakery in Donostia, known for creating exceptional bread and pastries. The bakery's dedication to their craft is evident in the quality of their French-style baguettes, walnut and chocolate pastries, croissants with nuts, apricot pie, and sourdough bread. Despite being a local favorite with friendly staff and an expat-friendly environment, some visitors express disappointment that the bakery has not expanded beyond Donostia.
We stopped by this patisserie in San Sebastián and sampled a few different pastries, but what truly stood out was the plain croissant. It was absolutely incredible…one of the best I’ve ever had. And I say that after having croissants in Paris and across France, as well as in other places known for great pastry. This croissant was on another level: buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. A must-try for anyone visiting.
Uri Y — Google review
Buttery and soft croissant, not the flaky kind but it was chewier type and smells very buttery, I got one to go right before hiking up to the Castillo. Tucked behind the border or old town, and people are extremely friendly! Must get one before your hike!
Vina L — Google review
KAIXO! I am eating my way through their menu. The plan is to go every morning and get one new item. I’ve been to Donostia a few times and always saw a line at this bakery. I regret not going sooner. Their menu may change throughout the week. If I remember to take a photo before I eat, I’ll add more to this review. So far I have had these items and they do not disappoint: Focaccia, Rye and Fig (centeno e higo), apricot pastry (hojaldre), muesli, pan de francais, hazelnut croissant (nueces), chocolate croissant…
Larissa — Google review
Phenomenal pastries! 5 minute walk from our hotel so a very ‘dangerous’ location. No area to sit but no problem! Grabbed a cappuccino from around the corner and dined with an ocean view!
Terri E — Google review
Artisanal breads and pastries. I live nearby at Pension Ur-Alde so I was able to walk in 1 minute to this beautiful shop. At 9:30 am, there were 5 people in line and the aroma of the bread was enticing. The friendly server helped me with my order of a nut croissant, Kouign Amann w vanilla, Saskia (banana, vanilla, nuts) and the beautiful apricot w custard. I would’ve bought some bread but we are just 2 people. At 12 pm, I walked by again and the line was 30 people long. Definitely try to go early. REPLY TO OWNER: Label your products. With so many people waiting, it’s not fair to ask the server to name each pastry.
Aleta L — Google review
This really is the best bakery in San Sebastián. I was helped by a lovely lady who was very friendly and helpful. I had the plain brioche which was very buttery and fresh and an apricot and custard viennoiserie. The latter had a caramelised top which was crunchy and the filling was delicious.
D Y — Google review
Stumbled upon this gem of a bakery and was not disappointed! Most of the patrons in line were locals. The prices were so affordable and such a steal for the quality. My favorite was the regular croissant :) Will be back again!
Erin M — Google review
This is simply the place to go for high quality bread in San Sebastián. They have an incredible selection including sourdough, multiple kinds of whole grains, organic loaves, classic baguettes, and more. I highly recommend the muesli loaf. They also make amazing txokoki (pain au chocolat), walnut croissants, and a handful of other pastries. There are no drinks and no seating — it’s take-out only for bread and pastry.

Blatant racism and humiliation. I was treated horribly just for not finding the bathroom. The staff spoke to me like I was a thief, made a scene in front of everyone, and even asked diners who I was with to “make sure” I wasn’t stealing. From the start, they ignored us like we didn’t exist. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Do not come here.

Nestled just across from the stunning Zurriola beach, The Loaf has transformed from a humble pop-up bakery in a shipping container to a beloved mini-chain of local shops. With its vibrant storefront and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, it beckons visitors with an array of freshly baked delights like flaky croissants, rich palmiers, and unique turmeric-spiced pan de curcuma.
Delicious. The tostada and coffee in the morning was great - as is the basque cheesecake which is absolutely amazing - and you can get it in a box to takeaway

The Loaf has your perfect breakfast, brunch or coffee takeaway. 🍞🍰☕️🏖️ The first time was summer ‘22 and those brownies at the beach right in front were delicious!🤤 This time I enjoyed some delicious avocado and tomato toast 🥑🍅 and worked inside for awhile. Really lovely people and a place I love coming back to! ☺️🙏🏼 Eskerrik Asko / Thank you team!

The staff is super friendly! The coffee is decent, and croissant I had lovely and flaky. It might have been time of the day, or because there was a marathon on the day I visited, but the selection seems a bit limited, and nothing that really would stand out versus other coffee shops/cafes/bakeries... hence the 3 stars. In a nutshell - if you’re there, you won’t be too disappointed... but it’s not somewhere I think you should go out of your way to find.

burnt basque cheesecake has become internationally renowned over the last few years and when we walked past the loaf, we knew we had to try it in its original birthplace of San Sebastián. So so delicious and balanced. Creamy and moist without being over rich and a perfect crust. We still dream of it and will be back next we are in town. We could see that the baker was one of passion and dedication to perfection of the curated selection that they make :)
