Urgull is a tree-covered hill in San Sebastian, offering historic military structures, a museum, and stunning panoramic views of the ocean and city. The city boasts two urban beaches, Zurriola and Ondarreta, with the option to take a scenic stroll along Paseo Nuevo around Monte Urgull. The coast features La Concha bay and lush green hills like Montes Igueldo, Urgull, Ulia, Pasaia, and Adarra.
A nice hike with beautiful views of the city and ocean. Saw many birds around with colorful feathers. I enjoyed walking around the fort and soaking in the scenery and seeing some history like the canons and jail cells. There were many place to sit along the way up. Recommend for a nice walk and little exercise.
Alexandra A — Google review
For fabulous views of San Sebastián it’s well worth the climb to the top. Steep steps in places or more windy route available. Make sure you take water with you, there’s nowhere to drink at the top but there is a very good bar half way up and worth a stop.
Linda — Google review
If you take the view alone as a yardstick it cannot quite compete with its counterpart on the other side of the bay (Monte Igueldo), but Urgull can be explored in a relaxed and peaceful manner. Fortunately there is no cable car but there are some nice hiking trails, the small castle is well preserved and if you didn't already have the impression of looking at a miniature version of Rio, the statue of Christ confirms this effect.
Martin K — Google review
Located in San Sebastián, Mount Urgull offers stunning views of the city and coastline, with paths for all fitness levels. The hike is filled with historical sites, with the most widely known as the statue of Christ. The greenery and vibrant gardens make it perfect for a stroll or picnic. Whether you're into hiking, history, or just enjoying nature, Mount Urgull is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
Ellie ( — Google review
A nice walk up, with multiple spots to see the views but also some historical monuments and remains. Get yourself lost in this beautiful walk to the top and go to the castle-museum (free)!
Maëleen R — Google review
Worth the climb. Great view of the lovley San Sebastian.
Jon H — Google review
Mount Urgull offers an amazing vantage point to get closer to the Jesus statue whilst connecting with nature and history. The walk up is quite steep but the view is worth it. Along the path are a dozen or so signposted pitstops offering a snapshot of this sight's historical relevance. At the top there's a castle with museum accessed by staggered entry times. There's two entry points to the park allowing walkers to create a psuedo loop.
Donna M — Google review
Fascinating little hill and old battlementsl with a labyrinth of interconnected paths that lead you up to monument over looking the city. Its not overly taxing as the routes are not very steep and have been designed to suit a range of fitness levels. You need a ticket to get into view the monument and should be booked in advance(tickets are free). Its an awesome 2 hours well spent and offers spectacular view of the city promenade and bay area

Museums
The San Telmo Museum, situated in the heart of Donostia-San Sebastian's Old Town, is a captivating venue that showcases the rich tapestry of Basque culture and history. Housed in a renovated 16th century Dominican convent with modern interventions, this museum offers an intriguing blend of historical architecture and contemporary design. Visitors can explore a diverse collection encompassing Basque ethnography, art, photography, and global archaeological discoveries.
San Telmo museum is located at the old town and right at the foot of Mt. Urgull. The old part of the museum is housed in a 16th-century Dominican convent and the main entrance is the modern part and also used it for special exhibition. If you want to know more about the Basque culture and history , then this is the right place. It has a bit of everything. Paintings , archaeology , special history sessions for the last hundreds year. Interesting display of large scale murals from Josep Maria Sert.
Simon L — Google review
Better than expected with some great displays and some a bit baffling. A big variety and an important insight into the history of the Basque people and culture. Perfect for a rainy day. Wish we'd booked a tour in English to get more out of the experience. It was free the day we visited. We would have not visited for €10 each as there was not enough information for non Spanish speakers. It is tiring to translate.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Such a cool museum! It was a great way to learn about Basque culture, and I was impressed to find a large collections of art as well as many informative exhibits about Basque history. The building itself is incredible! Plus they had an awesome temporary exhibit about flora and textiles.
Hailey B — Google review
Very interesting museum, was glad to learn more about the history of the Basque Country in the context of the Spanish Civil War. The old church is outstanding! However I think the history had a clear left wing bias in terms of cultural/political changes in more modern times, and should be more neutral.
Karl F — Google review
San Telmo is like stepping into a living storybook of Basque culture! The moment you walk through that stunning 16th-century convent, you’re hit with this incredible blend of ancient vibes and modern flair. Those massive Sert murals in the old church? Jaw-dropping. I spent hours soaking in the history, from prehistoric artifacts to sleek modern designs, and still felt like I barely scratched the surface. A quirky tidbit: the museum’s new wing is covered in 3,500 recycled aluminum sheets with moss growing through them, blending right into Monte Urgull like it’s part of the mountain! Tickets are €6, but go on a Tuesday for free entry just get there early to avoid the crowd. Bring a phone for the audio guide; not everything’s in English, and it really brings the exhibits to life. Don’t skip the Zazpi café for a quick pintxo break it’s a gem
Arthur V — Google review
A good introduction into the history of the Basque country. The museum is a good balance between history, culture and art. The chapel is a "must see" in the city. A good value for money alternative in the city, particularly for families, since people under 25yrs enter free.
Jorge P — Google review
We went on a Tuesday, the locals recommended us since it is free on Tuesdays. It was amazing, even if we had to pay, it would have been so worth it! They have a lot of information, you travel through time from the beginning till modern days, there are a lot of videos and mini films for each station, a lot of interactive stations as well. Not the typical boring museum, it is filled with stories, truly exciting! I would recommend it to anyone staying at Donostia! Must-visit place!

Victoria Eugenia Antzokia is a must-visit in San Sebastian, inaugurated in 1912 and known for its architectural beauty and cultural significance. It hosts various events including the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Musical Fortnight. Adjacent to this elegant theater is the iconic Maria Cristina Hotel.
Watching the performances was truly exceptional; the venue had a classy atmosphere, and the artists' quality was top-notch, making it an unforgettable part of Jazzaldia
Agus B — Google review
Situated in the most central part of the city, the Victoria Eugenia Theater is one of the most emblematic buildings in San Sebastián. Steeped in history, since its inauguration in 1912, the Theater has witnessed the city's most important cultural events. A recent renovation has transformed it into an innovative viewing area, equipped with the most modern equipment and services, while maintaining all its charm and original features.
Karol K — Google review
Absolutely beautiful place to be. Even though I didn't get to go in as it was closed on that day, this place is a must for tourists and locals alike. The outside scenary is really beautiful to sit and chill

A classical, early 20th century provincial capital theater. One of the best in Spain, fully renovated and with wonderful frescoes in its main ceiling.

The Beach of La Concha is a bustling, sandy, shell-shaped beach located on the Bay of La Concha in San Sebastian. It is considered one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Europe and among the best in the Basque Country. The elegant modernist promenade stretches for over a kilometer and ends at the Palacio de Mirar, featuring white railings and numerous large lampposts.
Fantastic Beach in Town Centre This is a great beach, it is very wide and shallow at the beginning but you get depth quite fast and you can swim very far out. The beach itself is really nice and has all the necessary amenities. What I also like a lot is that you can go to restaurants, shops etc very easily. Last but not least the view is also amazing!
Paul V — Google review
I loved the size of the beach. Despite the crowds, it never felt overcrowded. If you enjoy proper swimming, you can swim long distances across the width of the beach. There are also several good restaurants within walking distance. Plus, there’s convenient access to public restrooms. I would definitely recommend it.
Jens M — Google review
Beautiful beach. Mostly always well kept. Even if you don't like sand is very nice to stroll along just about any time of day.
Robin R — Google review
Fantastic city beach with safe swimming water. There is an arched promenade allowing for shade if needed with young children.
John D — Google review
One cannot come to San. Sebastian and not come to the beach. For goodness sake, this is the paradise part of SS. Full of people but ALWAYS enough space for everyone. Amazing and a must come for the sunshine!
Pecston G — Google review
Very beautiful in picture beach in the centre of Saint Sebastian. I really love my visit to the spot. Lots of people enjoying the weather and the scenic view. Around the beach area, there is plenty to see, including tourist attractions and spots to enjoy refreshments and food.
Carl C — Google review
Great walk around the bay and a lovely beach. Some great sand sculptures at the far end.
Linda — Google review
As far as I can tell it is no less than the most beautiful city beach or bay in Europe. Of course you have to be lucky with the weather, as on hot days it feels like the whole city is digging through the sand. The huge dimensions only become clear on a walk or a drive up one of the two hills (Monte Igueldo or Urgull). It is a little unusual that there is so little catering right on the promenade.

The Donostia-San Sebastian Aquarium, also known as the Aquarium-Palacio del Mar, is a popular seaside attraction located at the end of the port. Established in 1928, it is not only an aquarium but also a maritime museum that provides educational insights into local fishing and naval history. The aquarium features a large oceanarium with an impressive shark tunnel offering 360-degree views for visitors to walk underwater and observe marine species up close.
We had a great visit here with the kids, the staff and displays are multilingual which makes it really accessible for all. I love that there is a maritime museum section at the start with local history and even pirate sections. The aquarium is a good size with lots of variation, enough to keep the kids engaged for at least an hour. The gift shop was good not too overpriced and the staff are friendly. All in all it is well worth adding this as a detour if visiting the local area, I will say we went for opening, by the time we finished there were big queues. Buying tickets in advance won't help as you still have to join the queue to validate them. So to avoid disappointment I would recommend getting in early.
James D — Google review
I haven’t gone to an aquarium in forever— and this place makes me want to visit my local ones again. The sharks repeatedly swam over the tunnel they have here, allowing us the get a close up view of their fins, teeth, gills, and eyes! It was so cool. Definitely recommend visiting.
Smarty P — Google review
⸻ The Aquarium in San Sebastián is well worth a visit, especially if you’re with kids. The exhibits are informative and well laid out, with a mix of history and marine life. The highlight is the glass tunnel where fish and sharks swim around you, which keeps both children and adults impressed. It’s not a huge aquarium, but it’s well maintained and easy to walk through in about 1–2 hours. Ticket prices are fair for what you get, and the location by the harbor makes it convenient to include in a day of exploring the city.
M S — Google review
The San Sebastián Aquarium, situated in the harbor of Donostia-San Sebastián, presents a comprehensive exploration of marine ecosystems with a focus on the biogeography of the Cantabrian Sea and broader global biodiversity. The institution houses a substantial collection of over 200 species, meticulously curated across diverse habitats. The centerpiece, the Oceanarium, a 1.5 x 1.5 million liter tank traversed by a 360-degree acrylic tunnel, facilitates direct observation of apex predators such as Carcharhinus leucas (bull shark), various batoids including species from the families Myliobatidae and Dasyatidae, and chelonioids like Caretta caretta (loggerhead sea turtle). Dedicated tanks showcase the ichthyofauna and invertebrate communities endemic to the Cantabrian Sea, highlighting ecological relationships within this temperate Atlantic region. Furthermore, the aquarium features biotope-specific exhibits representing tropical coral reef ecosystems, displaying a vibrant array of scleractinian corals and associated reef fish from the families Pomacanthidae, Labridae, and Chaetodontidae. Specialized displays focus on pelagic species, cryptic microfauna, and venomous marine organisms, underscoring the diversity of marine adaptations. The inclusion of a tactile aquarium allows for direct interaction with selected benthic invertebrates, promoting experiential learning. Beyond live exhibits, the institution maintains a significant osteological collection, most notably the skeleton of Eubalaena glacialis (North Atlantic right whale), providing paleontological context to regional marine fauna. Through its integrated approach encompassing live displays, interactive technologies, and historical artifacts, the San Sebastián Aquarium serves as a valuable resource for both public education and the dissemination of marine biological knowledge. Not a huge Aquarium but worth the visit. Specially the huge main tank.
Manuel V — Google review
Fantastic place, essentially the naval museum on the top two floors with model boats, history, etc. then natural marine wildlife, and down into two floors of aquarium. Very well done, very informative, and finishes with a pair of axolotl and a gift shop. Fantastic experience all around!
ACE B — Google review
great aquarium from someone who loves sea animals, and a lot of history about fishing and ancient history it was great, although for me who is autistic I did get a bit overwhelmed by the people and had to put on music for myself. So if you have a child with any difficulties please prep beforehand
Malia C — Google review
Not big but interesting and educational, aquariums with many species of fish, few people enter the hall called the auditorium, not knowing that there is a huge aquarium with large fish, you can sit and watch them. I really liked the walk and it turned out to be educational.

San Sebastián City Hall is a stunning example of historical architecture, located near Alderdi Eder gardens and La Concha beach. Housed in an old palace from the late 19th century, it was once the Gran Casino until 1924. The building reflects the city's splendor during the Belle Epoque era when many notable structures were built, earning San Sebastián the nickname 'Little Paris.'
San Sebastian is the best city in the world if you love food, beer and cozyness. It can be a little busy with tourists at times

Built in 1887 at the Gardens of Alderdi-Eder, next to the Nautical Royal Club, to house the main casino. The opening ceremony was attended by the Queen Maria Christina of Austria. However, it closed as a casino after the ban on gambling in 1924. On January 20, 1945, the council moved to this building and turned the former casino the City Hall.

Monte Igueldo, situated on the western end of La Concha Bay in San Sebastián, is a popular destination for travelers seeking breathtaking views and entertainment. Visitors can take a charming 40-minute stroll along the seafront promenade before boarding the vintage funicular railway that ascends to the modest 181m summit. At the top, an old-fashioned amusement park awaits, featuring attractions like a rollercoaster with stunning cliffside views and various family-friendly rides.
The boat ride is very charming and great views of the city once you get the funicular up. A lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the city
Paul D — Google review
Super nice view, that’s all as this s mostly a lil park for kids to run around. The funicular isn’t worth the >1 hour wait but I insisted as I thought I d be able to enjoy the ride, I was wrong. Overall attractions aren’t attractive, and the only hotel restaurant to avoid. There is though a lil bar on the side selling refreshments at half of the prices and queue, if needed rather go there. I mean, it’s a must go but you may be disappointed

Easy level trekking (more like walking), easier if you have car 😁. Loved the views. There is small entrance fee and also the other activities for which you have pay small amount but for one time experience I think it’s okay. It’s best place for kids, the park is full of games and stuff for kids.

It showcases visual and audiovisual artists, hosts performing arts events, and provides residence for artists.
This is a stunning building not far by the main train station and with a beautiful park behind it. The home of the international film festival office and with great learning facilities plus lots of contemporary art exhibitions - really worth a visit.

The Great Kursaal was an elegant palace built in 1921, pulled down in 1973. An empty plot was freed (1973-1999). The new Kursaal Congress Centre (1999) was designed by Rafael Moneo, awarded the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2001. The initial impact of the buildings in the landscape was deemed negative by Donostians, thanks to the positive impact it had in the economy, tourism and cultural life, most citizens today appreciate it.

Churches & Cathedrals
The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd of San Sebastian is a late-1800s landmark with stunning Gothic-Revival architecture and a towering 75-meter central spire. Situated in the romantic area of San Sebastian, this cathedral was inspired by medieval churches in Germany and France, evident in its pointed style and sharp needle crowning the building. The main facade features The Cross of Peace sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.
A beautiful place to find sanctuary from the crowds or the rain. So peaceful and the stained glass is gorgeous. Not a religious visit but you can appreciate the faith and devotion of the people of San Sebastián-Donostia
Lighthouse C — Google review
The gem of the town, with such a majestic building, and MULTIPLE mass timings, which is such a RARE find in Spain. And the priests are very welcoming. I am so glad to get a chance to visit, and it is not to be missed, as it is near to all the major attractions.
Pecston G — Google review
This is a beautiful Gothic revival cathedral. There is a lot of work currently on the street in front of the entrance to the cathedral, but you can walk around the side of this to gain access. The steeple on top of the cathedral was a later edition. Inside the cathedral are beautiful stained glass windows amazing works of art, including sculptures and paintings. Each of the chapels are filled with beautiful icons. There is a beautiful organ. A magnificent cathedral to visit in the San Sebastian area
G M — Google review
They don’t sell tickets, you can just go in. The ramp is on the side if you come with a baby stroller like I did. It’s beautifully lit up at night. A little more underwhelming in the inside (just compared to other ones) still beautiful . The little courtyard around it is not well kept, pretty dirty.
Cata L — Google review
The cathedral is beautiful but we also went to see luminescence....a light and sound show in the cathedral which was absolutely spectacular and highly recommendable.
Nicola J — Google review
The Catedral del Buen Pastor in San Sebastián is one of those places that sneaks up on you. From the outside it looks impressive with its neo-gothic spire pointing straight into the sky, and once you step inside it’s calm and peaceful, a nice break from the busy streets around it. The stained glass is beautiful and the whole space feels open and airy rather than dark and heavy like some cathedrals. You don’t need a lot of time to visit, but it’s worth popping in if you’re wandering through the city center. Even if you’re not into churches, the atmosphere is relaxing and it gives you a sense of the history of the city.
Scott C — Google review
Amazing architecture on all side of the outside if the building. Inside viewing is free and the stained glass is beautiful.

A wonderful Cathedral. We went there 29th of August to join a great event named Luminescent. San Sebastián Cathedral in Bacolod City has a rich history, established by missionaries in the 1700s and constructed from 1876 to 1882. It is dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The Buen Pastor Cathedral in the city of San Sebastián, Spain, is a separate structure, opening in 1897 and gaining cathedral status in 1953. There is no specific information connecting "luminescence" to either of these churches in the provided search results.

When exploring the charming city of San Sebastián, make sure to include a visit to the Iglesia de San Pío X in your itinerary. This quaint church, while not as grand as some of its counterparts like the Basilica de Santa Maria del Coro or Catedral del Buen Pastor, holds a special place in the city's history. The area features charming cobblestone streets with pintxos bars offering local delicacies and wine. Notably, Old Town hosts the annual Tamborrada festival to commemorate historical events.
Perfect for breakfast or lunch! The cappuccinos are absolutely spot-on, and the food is incredibly fresh and delicious. This has become my favorite breakfast experience in town. The staff is also super friendly and welcoming — thank you for all your hard work!

Amazing modern brunch right next to the cathedral. Great coffee and food, we did have to wait for a table (where good don't you in San Sebastien), but you are given a fob that tells you when it's ready and to head back. Worth the wait. Perfect flat whites, and everyone loved the food. It was so good we came back again on the last day of our holiday.
Ben H — Google review
Absolutely unreal. There were no tables available when we got there, so they gave us a beeper. We took the time to see the cathedral nearby, and came back to have the most AMAZING brunch. Everything was perfect: food, waiters, location, atmosphere (we talked a whole lot to the people at other tables)! The star of the show to me was the cinnamon roll, it's got a gooey and soft texture that I haven't had before. Really good! My only general complaint is that the portion sizes are too small...you know the food is good when the only problem is that there isn't more of it!

Cristina Enea Park is a serene and lush oasis nestled near the heart of San Sebastian. It was originally the private estate of the Duke of Mandas but has since been opened to the public, offering a tranquil escape from city life. This beloved green space is located on a small peninsula along the Urumea river and boasts well-maintained pathways, gardens, and a picturesque pond where visitors can observe local wildlife such as flamingos.
Beautiful woodland park. Nice option to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the busy old town. We saw our first red squirrel and do take some seed or old bread to hand feed the Great Tits and Nuthatches. Also lots of other birds including Jays, Blackbirds, Robins and Sparrows. As well as a pond with a Swan, Mallard ducks and terrapins. And peacocks too.

Very nice little park just off the new center of San Sebastián close to the train station. La Bretxa local market, established in 1870, is a century-old market featuring various food stalls such as butchers and fishmongers. It's a favorite spot for local chefs to source fresh ingredients for their renowned restaurants. Visitors are welcome to explore the market and sample the diverse food offerings. The market is well-organized with stands offering excellent fish and seafood at reasonable prices.
La Bretxa is a hidden gem at the rear of the old town. Whilst it's not huge it services locals by offering both fresh meat& fish in addition to a full Lidl supermarket. For some unique history check out the historic bidding clock. The local municipality keeps the buildings well maintained and toilets are super clean.

Currently the building is under construction, however the market located on the underground level is still open. Entry is located via the escalators facing the building with McDonald's. The tiles in the market were very interesting and the market offered lots of fresh seafood and fruits (we didn't try the meats). We were able to pay by card at all the stalls we visited.

The observation deck originally dated back from 16th century and later evolved into a bastion. San Bizente Eliza is a stunning Gothic-style church in San Sebastian, built in the 16th century. The church features soaring ceilings and round stained-glass windows, creating a breathtaking atmosphere. In its yard, visitors can find interesting sculptures that make it one of the most Instagrammable places in San Sebastian. The church also boasts beautiful baroque-style architecture for the altar and a magnificent organ.
The Church of San Vicente (Iglesia de San Vicente) is the oldest church in San Sebastián, Spain, located in the city's Old Town. Constructed in the early 16th century, this Basque Gothic-style church stands on the site of a previous temple destroyed by fire. Exterior: The façade features a sculpture titled "La Piedad" (The Compassion), depicting the Virgin Mary with open arms holding the body of Christ on her lap. Interior: The church houses several excellently carved wooden altars at the end of its three naves. Notably, it contains one of the best Romanesque altarpieces, crafted by Ambrosio de Bengoechea and Juan de Iriarte. Organ: Installed in 1868, the organ was built by the renowned Parisian organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. Visiting Information Entrance is free. Its location in the heart of San Sebastián's Old Town makes it a significant cultural and historical landmark, reflecting the city's rich architectural heritage.

The most ornate church we visited with a spectacular altar and some intricate woodwork. Organ music was playing to set an atmosphere but unfortunately it was either badly composed or played and we did not linger. Like most churches, there will be a beggar outside but they are polite and do not insist. Not disappointed by the church but the music was awful.
Lighthouse C — Google review

Another example of classic gothic architecture. The outside is quite plain, but inside there are beautiful sculptures, paintings, and other works of art in the chapel niches and the altar. There is a beautiful organ which is well restored, but we were unfortunate not to hear. This is a beautiful place for contemplation to get away from the crowds of San Sebastian and to sit reflect and look up at the beautiful vaulted ceiling.

San Vicente Mártir is a 16th century Gothic church, and is one of the oldest buildings in the city of San Sebastián, and one of the few that survived the fire of 1813. Its main altarpiece by Ambrosio de Bengoechea, completed in 1586, is an example of Romanismo, a style which imitated the artists who worked in Rome during the High Renaissance, mainly Raphael and Michelangelo.

The museum features innovative displays and do-it-yourself experiments designed to spark interest in science and technology among kids. With attractions like a 140-seat planetarium, astronomy observatory, rollercoaster simulator, and mini botanical garden, it's an ideal destination for families.
The children's science museum in San Sebastián has quick accessibility from anywhere in the area via a bus ride. This convenience makes it an easy and convenient option for families looking for a fun and educational activity. It’s not just convenient and indoors it’s loads of fun , making it a great choice for a rainy day activity. The diverse range of exhibits caters to children of all ages, providing an engaging and interactive experience. The museum is well-priced for the amount of exhibits and activities available. This makes it a cost-effective option for families looking to explore and learn together. There is a small cafe attached but I would not use up caloric space there and save it for one of San Sebastian’s culinary palaces of flavor. All exhibits at the museum have explanations in English, French, Spanish, and Basque. This inclusive approach ensures that visitors from various linguistic backgrounds can fully enjoy and understand the educational content on display. It’s a great change from what else you have been doing here and definitely worth checking out if you have the time.

Absolutely amazing museum with a huge variety of interactive exhibits plus fascinating animals and a planetarium. It's not expensive and that leaves money to spend on the simulators which the kids loved too! Both my kids loved it and so did we. We spent 5 hours there and could've stayed longer. If you are an animal-friend, just do not support the museum. The aligator and turtoises live in such small cages, it is quite heartbreaking to see. Also quite hypocritical, the museum has a quote on the wall. “To care you have to understand” and when you walk a bit further you see animal cruelty. The animals even look kind of dead, we stayed a long and saw them move, they do not look happy. Please do not give them your money or your time.

A neo-gothic cathedral, so it is not that old as it is from the late 1800s. It is worth a short visit inside. We were lucky enough to hear the organ as they were practicing.
Simon R — Google review
Amazing architecture on all side of the outside if the building. Inside viewing is free and the stained glass is beautiful.

The Mercado de La Bretxa is a Basque market with a long history dating back to 1870. The market features food stalls and shops selling produce, meat, and cheese. It's a great place to buy fresh food and colorful fabrics. There's also a Lidl store on site.
Ally Z — Google review
Really interesting place where you can feel the heartbeat of the town. The finest ingredients for pintxos. Shame there is no tasting but there is history and atmosphere
Lighthouse C — Google review
La Bretxa is a hidden gem at the rear of the old town. Whilst it's not huge it services locals by offering both fresh meat& fish in addition to a full Lidl supermarket. For some unique history check out the historic bidding clock. The local municipality keeps the buildings well maintained and toilets are super clean.
Donna M — Google review
Little market with quality articles and some less, it's about each of us to check how look the ham for example or ask if this is natural or not... There was no fish today. A Lidl can also be found downstairs
Gregory L — Google review
Indoor (underground) market, quite a few meat and fish vendors most look traditional stores worthy of a visit to buy some good chorizo also a Lidl store down there
Steven C — Google review
A bit of a bummer, when I came down side market was closed. It looks like they’re doing some renovations. I’m sure once it’s open it’ll be nice.

Hostel
SURFING ETXEA Surf Hostel San Sebastián is a vibrant and modern hostel located in the Gros neighborhood. The dorm rooms offer ample lockable storage and a shared kitchen, lounge, terrace, and in-house bar provide great spaces to socialize with fellow travelers. While popular among surfers due to its proximity to the beach and surfboard rentals, it also attracts non-surfers looking for a lively atmosphere.
Very nice hostel! Staff is friendly and helps you with everything you need. Location is perfect, only 2 min walking from the beach. Also nice for solo traveling. Recommend!
Stefanie B — Google review
Awesome hostel in center of San Sebastián! Modern and clean rooms, helpful staff, and excellent location. The staff directed us about free parking which was helpful. If you book on their website instead of through a third party it’s cheaper. Just be sure to check in by 11pm to avoid getting charged a late arrival fee.
Cassidy K — Google review
Surfing Extxea is a true home away from home. From the moment I arrived, I felt completely at ease, as a woman travelling solo that is not always the case. The hostel is spotless, with super comfortable beds, great (clean) showers, and a cozy common area perfect for relaxing after a day out. If you love surfing, this place couldn’t be better — just a short two-street walk and you’re at one of Donostia’s best surfing beaches! A special shoutout to the amazing volunteers and the owner — they were always kind, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Their energy really makes this place stand out. Only thing that I missed is a place to dry my laundry, but thats the only minus I can think of ;) I had an incredible stay and will definitely be coming back! Greetings!
Dieke C — Google review
This place is awesome! The staff are friendly, helpful, and chill. They serve coffee, some baked goods, sandwiches, and a have a bar in the evening, during specific hours. I was able to check in at 230 pm, which I appreciate because I just walked from Irun on the Camino. Just a couple blocks from the beach, fantastic location, lots of tapas, pinchos restaurants and cafes, gelato shops nearby. They have a shared kitchen but I didn't use. You can rent a towel for $2 euro, unless you brought your own. Bathrooms are cleaned often, a rack for drying your clothes in the room. I slept in the 4 bed mixed dorm and it was great, had a good sleep. I would stay here again!
K F — Google review
Pros: - good location - clean - comfortable Cons: - on the bottom bunk people can see you through the ladder, and in a mixed dorm with strangers this made me feel a bit uncomfortable. - no hob in kitchen (only toaster and microwave)
Grace K — Google review
The worst hostel experience i ever had. Host is rude, awful and has no idea about customer service. I waited 3 hours outside and it was 3 in the afternoon, because guess what, he was out surfing! I had emailed him in advance of my arrival time. And when I confronted him, he was trying to blame it on me, the guest. In my 15 years of travelling he is still the worst host i have ever encountered. not worth it. stay away!

Lourdes Txiki haitzuloa has a rich history dating back to 1903 when Dominican friars from Arcachon sought refuge in the city and created a replica of the Lourdes caves known as Lourdes Txiki. The Basilica of Saint Mary of Coro is a minor basilica and Roman Catholic parish church that was constructed in the 18th century using baroque architecture. Located in the Old Town of Donostia - San Sebastian, it boasts an ornate exterior featuring intricately carved doors and towers with a crowned shield of the city. The main entrance resembles an altarpiece and showcases a figure of tortured Saint Sebastian along with papal symbols denoting its status as a minor basilica.
Was drawn to come here thanks to it's magnificent entrance. Only costs a couple of Euros to get in and is well worth it. A lot to see inside including the stunning architecture.

A great escape from the rain. Yes there is a fee but for the upkeep of this jewel like basilica and the interesting exhibition is worth it. There are lovely chapels and it has a comfortable atmosphere. Architecture is fascinating and the vaults are really lovely.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Absolutely worth the visit, with only €3 for the entrance fee, which allows you full access to the entire basilica + the museum section which is absolutely beautiful. One cannot get such a price for a visit, and it is a good donation to the church too, so why not. GO FOR IT. Give yourself 45min-1h here to truly appreciate, esp the Musuem section.
Pecston G — Google review
This is a beautiful basilica, and even though there is a three euro entry fee it is worth the price for admission. It sits directly opposite the cathedral which you can see several kilometers in the distance. The church itself has a museum of religious artifacts dating from the medieval period up to contemporary pieces. There is a lift that will take you upstairs to a temporary exhibition space. There was a photographic exhibition showing when I was there. The church itself is richly appointed, and the architecture is superb. The carvings and alter pieces are beautiful and rich. The cathedral itself is peaceful and well worth a visit
G M — Google review
A stunning place, entrance cost 3€ but I think it's worth it. It includes a small exhibition, where you can find out a little bit about history of Christianity in San Sebastian (or see a statuette of San Sebastian himself, for that matter). There's also a small chapel, but the entrance wasn't allowed. It's definitely more crowded outside of the basilica but the inside provides a calm and needed escape from the city's hustle and bustle.
