Cake shop
Oiartzun is a renowned pastry cafe located at the entrance gate of the Old Town, offering a delightful array of sweet treats and gourmet products. The second-generation pastry chef, David Martin, upholds his father's tradition by creating delectable desserts from the finest ingredients with love. Visitors can enjoy their coffee and choose from specialty croissants, Basque cake, truffles, and eclairs on the cozy terrace with great views of the town hall and Boulevard main drag.
The best bakery in the city. I came back three times. The service is fast but surprisingly they don't speak English. Compared to last year the prices are way higher but similar to any other place in the city.

A traditional patisserie with a great selection of local delicious cakes and pastries. We tried the Gozua and Pastel Vasco. Yummy and rich. Friendly service and tasty coffee.
Lighthouse C — Google review
Lots of tasty deserts, sweets, chocolate and coffee. Very small place, but lots of things to choose from.
Anton R — Google review
Loved this place! Came every morning for a pastry (especially the Vasco cake!) and a cafe con leche when in town. They are fast, efficient, and they sure had plenty available. It was a great breakfast or sweet treat stop with so many delicious choices! Definitely recommend going!
Jennifer D — Google review
We visited this bakery after hearing it recommended for its Basque cheesecake, and it did not disappoint. The cake was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it while visiting San Sebastián
Uri Y — Google review
Cannot fault this corner bakery where over 6 days we went there everyday and tried something different for breakfast accompanied by the best cappuccino. Everything is made in house.
Caroline L — Google review
This is one of those stores were you spend some time trying to decide what to get, because after all you want to try everything they have. Those pastries are so aesthetically pleasing! And the prices are very reasonable, not high at all for the offered product. For us, it was the first place where we tried the traditional gâteau basque and we absolutely loved it, even though we can't quite compare it to any other. Would definitely come back to this place if I get the chance so I can get more unique and beautiful pastries.
Mary P — Google review
Lovely pastelería on the edge of San Sebastian's old town selling a tasty selection of fine baked goods as well as artisan chocolate and truffles. The grande Pastel Tasco (almond tart) was absolutely delicious and was the standout item for me, although we tried a number of different cakes which were all lovely. Very friendly service, and a great location. Easily found if you are approaching the old town from the Centro area or the beach.

Bar & grill
Grill
Ganbara is a long-standing restaurant in San Sebastian, known for its small plates and mains served in a relaxed setting. The restaurant features a buzzing atmosphere with Iberian hams hanging from the walls and a small bar offering artfully decorated pintxos. These savory snacks, made from fish, foie, mushrooms, puff pastry, and griddled bread topped with anchovies or pickled chillis, are best enjoyed with the local wine, txakoli.
Our experience here was an absolute treat! Every dish we tried was phenomenal, but some stood out as unforgettable—the hen croquette and the puff pastry with Basque sausage. But the true star of the show? The mushrooms with egg yolk—a stunning combination that blew us away. An experience we’d happily relive!
Rica — Google review
Absolutely incredible!! One of our favourite restaurants in San Sebastian. The food is truly outstanding and worth the queue. The assorted mushrooms with egg yolk were incredible. As were the red prawns, asparagus, croquettes and assortment of other delicious tapas/Pinxtos. Lively, fun restaurant with some bar/counter seating, good service and reasonable prices for the quality of the food!!
Katie H — Google review
We queued for about 15 minutes on a Wednesday lunchtime which was pretty good compared to what we had heard. It was so worth it though and once we were in we were quickly moved to some more comfortable and spacious seats at the bar. The specialty mushrooms with egg was amazing and the prawns were good was we were jealous of the couple next to us who were eating giant prawns - wish we had ordered those. The jamon was so melt in your mouth - it was a huge portion but I could have eaten it 10x over. Everything was outstanding and the staff were lovely. Because of the queueing it didn't feel as overcrowded as some of the other Pintxos bars either and we certainly weren't rushed.
Natalie M — Google review
Delicious food and friendly staff. Definitely overpriced and not worth waiting in the queue for. We waited for 40 minutes in the queue on a Wednesday night. The mushrooms were tasty and of great quality, but with the quantity, it was not worth €23. Let alone the red prawn, it was small and cost €33 EACH (right, not one dish, but EACH prawn). I’ve eaten many prawns in my life in various European countries. Regarding the quality and size of this one, it felt like a rip-off. Unfortunately we will not come back.
Vicky L — Google review
We arrived around 2:45 and waited in line until we managed to sneak in at 3:15, right before the close for the afternoon. It was totally worth the wait. We tried the mushrooms, croquette, monkfish/prawn, foie gras and anchovies. Although the mushrooms are what they seem to be known for online, my favs were the anchovies and foie gras toast. Everything was incredible though and I would absolutely dine here again
Marina A — Google review
Long line up but 100% worth the hype. We waited about 45 min. The man who stands outside and works the line is honestly the nicest human, very pleasant and chatty. The food was the highlight. Standout dishes for us were the razor clams, the mushrooms with egg. The dessert of fresh strawberries with black pepper was also incredible.
Justin G — Google review
Absolutely amazing food, I’d eat my weight here if I could. Ganbara’s on my top 3 best restaurants in Europe to date. Everything we ate here was absolutely top tier, I’m looking forward to coming back again when I visit San Sebastian.
Giovanny B — Google review
Loved this tapas place! Was definitely my favourite one out of all the ones we went to during our week there. They had such a large menu and have something for everyone. I’m somewhat of a picky eater and I found their food to be delicious and wanted to try more! Efficient service despite the chaotic nature of a tapas bar and they are very attentive even with a full house! Was very impressed in every aspect.

Old Town Coffee is a laid-back café that serves single-origin beans roasted on-site and light snacks. Situated in the historic district at the base of Monte Urgull, it's a hub of social activity. The area features charming cobblestone streets with pintxos bars offering local delicacies and wine. Notably, Old Town hosts the annual Tamborrada festival to commemorate historical events.
Perfect for breakfast or lunch! The cappuccinos are absolutely spot-on, and the food is incredibly fresh and delicious. This has become my favorite breakfast experience in town. The staff is also super friendly and welcoming — thank you for all your hard work!
Fábio G — Google review
Amazing modern brunch right next to the cathedral. Great coffee and food, we did have to wait for a table (where good don't you in San Sebastien), but you are given a fob that tells you when it's ready and to head back. Worth the wait. Perfect flat whites, and everyone loved the food. It was so good we came back again on the last day of our holiday.
Ben H — Google review
Absolutely unreal. There were no tables available when we got there, so they gave us a beeper. We took the time to see the cathedral nearby, and came back to have the most AMAZING brunch. Everything was perfect: food, waiters, location, atmosphere (we talked a whole lot to the people at other tables)! The star of the show to me was the cinnamon roll, it's got a gooey and soft texture that I haven't had before. Really good! My only general complaint is that the portion sizes are too small...you know the food is good when the only problem is that there isn't more of it!
Salma E — Google review
Got lucky walking in on a weekday morning. The Lot is an unreal breakfast sandwich that I’ll probably be thinking about from time to time for the rest of my life. Cafe con leches were creamy and smooth and the service was super friendly and efficient.
Pauline S — Google review
Great breakfast spot! Brilliant coffee and food, staff are lovely. A place I would make a point of returning to next time I’m in San Sebastián!
Keelan G — Google review
I particularly liked their coffee and breakfast toasts. Service was great with staff members giving their recommendations. It’s a great idea as well to buy beans as they roast it in San Sebastian.

Açaí bowl contains a little bit banana and strawberries and sooo much açaí and ice. Not good for this price. But here very good stuff, awesome view on church and good atmosphere. Thank you

The Otaegui cake shop is a well-known institution in San Sebastian for its high-quality desserts. The original bakery opened in 1886 and has since been joined by several branches around town, all of which offer the same excellent quality and customer service.
Excellent pastries they are some of the best we have ever eaten. There is a good variety to choose from. It is a simple shop with no seating, so be prepared to eat your pastries elsewhere.
Toby L — Google review
Very kind service, but a bit expensive. We had two pantxinetas / panchinetas (amandel cakes), which were fine, but not super amazing, and a block of milk chocolate (medium size?) which was surprisingly nice. There is no space to sit inside.
Roy O — Google review
Very nicely decorated place with delicious pastry. I had Basque cheesecake and pastel Vasco. Both were delicious, especially pastel Vasco, but I have to admit the cheesecake was better at La Viña. All though, I would definitely recommend the place to try amazing sweets! Too bad I didn’t try their famous Panchineta!
Eva V — Google review
I had my favorite Cheesecake in all of Basque country here. It’s a little on the sweeter side but really good.
Rohit D — Google review
Pastelería Otaegui – San Sebastián In the heart of the Old Town, Otaegui is a truly authentic pastry shop 🍰✨. Yes, it’s always full of tourists (and locals too), but it still preserves its traditional charm. The highlight here is the famous Basque cheesecake – Tarta de Queso de San Sebastián 🧀🔥. Creamy inside, slightly caramelized on top, and absolutely unforgettable. The pastry displays are gorgeous 🥐🍩, the vibe is buzzing and lively, and even though it can feel crowded, that’s part of the charm 😋. If you’re in San Sebastián, this is a must-try stop — come for the cheesecake, stay for the atmosphere 🌟.
Yuriy E — Google review
Amazing pantxineta and cheesecake! Both were light and perfectly balanced in sugar and texture. At first, we weren’t sure if we could finish both, but in the end, there wasn’t a single bite left :)
Kübra K — Google review
Best cheesecake we had so far! A little bit firmer than the usual.

The oldest pastry around and the items were simply a delight to look at as well as to savour! We ordered the panchitteria and it was mouth watering. It closes at 8:30pm though so go grab your sweets early.

Try the gorbea, which is a local take on the millefeuille, it's fantastic!

Bakery
Nestled just across from the stunning Zurriola beach, The Loaf has transformed from a humble pop-up bakery in a shipping container to a beloved mini-chain of local shops. With its vibrant storefront and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, it beckons visitors with an array of freshly baked delights like flaky croissants, rich palmiers, and unique turmeric-spiced pan de curcuma.
Delicious. The tostada and coffee in the morning was great - as is the basque cheesecake which is absolutely amazing - and you can get it in a box to takeaway
Nicki M — Google review
The Loaf has your perfect breakfast, brunch or coffee takeaway. 🍞🍰☕️🏖️ The first time was summer ‘22 and those brownies at the beach right in front were delicious!🤤 This time I enjoyed some delicious avocado and tomato toast 🥑🍅 and worked inside for awhile. Really lovely people and a place I love coming back to! ☺️🙏🏼 Eskerrik Asko / Thank you team!
Nanja ( — Google review
The staff is super friendly! The coffee is decent, and croissant I had lovely and flaky. It might have been time of the day, or because there was a marathon on the day I visited, but the selection seems a bit limited, and nothing that really would stand out versus other coffee shops/cafes/bakeries... hence the 3 stars. In a nutshell - if you’re there, you won’t be too disappointed... but it’s not somewhere I think you should go out of your way to find.
Martin L — Google review
burnt basque cheesecake has become internationally renowned over the last few years and when we walked past the loaf, we knew we had to try it in its original birthplace of San Sebastián. So so delicious and balanced. Creamy and moist without being over rich and a perfect crust. We still dream of it and will be back next we are in town. We could see that the baker was one of passion and dedication to perfection of the curated selection that they make :)

Great place for a quick breakfast. Prices are decent and the bread is delicious. Really limited in terms of breakfast options, but the strawberry jam is delicious. They use coffee from Sakona which is around the corner.

Not a typical San Sebastian foodie spot but decent coffee and excellent basque cheesecake. The 2nd part of the cafe serves as a sort of shared workspace, so don't come here expecting much atmosphere!

We came here for breakfast — everything looked beautiful and nicely presented. My vegan sandwich was tasty and well-balanced. However, my friend’s salmon and egg dish was overly salty. Unfortunately, both the coffee and the tea latte were very watery and lacked flavor, and the same goes for the smoothie — it tasted bland and diluted.
Eugenia T — Google review
Had brunch at Maiatza and ordered the croque madame, a special toast with bacon, and fresh juice. Everything was fine, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. An acceptable option if you’re nearby, but not a must-visit.
Mahdi R — Google review
Staff are nice and friendly, service and food was great. We stopped by for brunch and later came back for the basque cheesecake. Definitely recommended!
Zahid A — Google review
The best breakfast in town. Recommended by our hotel receptionist we were delighted to breakfast here twice. The staff are just lovely and the food is sensational . Adding a yummy smoothie to our order fuelled us up for a day of sightseeing and we just loved the relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for starting our mornings so deliciously.

Great Brunch! The servers were very nice, the food very good also. The menu has different fresh juices. And homemade pastries for everyone (gluten free option). A great place to start your day in San Sebastian
Cloé — Google review
Delicious breakfast in the heart of the city with a wonderful view of the church. We had Eggs Benedict – one with salmon and the other with bacon. Everything was very tasty, and the coffee was excellent!
Gunay A — Google review
Great breakfast, I'm vegan and had the energy bowl, soy yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit. Dog friendly and vegan cakes on display as well.

Nestled in the vibrant Gros neighborhood, just a stone's throw from the picturesque Zurriola beach, La Guinda Deli & Coffee is a delightful haven for food lovers. Since its opening in October 2011, this charming café has been dedicated to serving up fresh and wholesome homemade dishes. With a modern yet cozy ambiance, it’s an ideal spot for enjoying everything from hearty breakfasts to balanced three-course lunches.
A true gem in the relaxed Gros neighborhood - exceptional food that is creative, balanced and always a delight by the highly talented chef Romina. You can‘t go wrong with any dish and the menu del dia is an amazing deal as well. The staff is kind and at the same time the place has a relaxed neighborhood vibe that will make you feel right at home- a summer dream home that is.
Catriona M — Google review
Very friendly and helpful staff. The food wasn't bad however there are a lot of better options in San Sebastián. The quantity was good but some of the dishes were over seasoned and some lacked flavor, very hit and miss. Good wine choices and beautifully designed premises. Go for the friendly staff and vibe.
Reuben D — Google review
In all my travels and all the places I’ve eaten I’ve never been treated so poorly. I am fluent in Spanish. I am a good guest. We came at 1445- in time for the kitchen hours. The server clearly didn’t want us there from the beginning. We waited for a table for 15 minutes- not because they were full, but because she was ignoring us and said she would be back in a second, then did not return. then she finally gave us a table menus and never came back. She was purposely avoiding eye contact and communication with us, but took care of others. She came nowhere near our table. Finally she looked at me and I signaled her after waiting patiently for 20 minutes -she took our menus and said the kitchen is now closed. I’m sure they don’t care but in case they read this- she has shoulder length hair and she is an older woman maybe about 5 feet 2” tall. I hope somebody talks to her and teaches her some manners. The other person working seemed much more friendly and we were just unfortunate to have the one who discriminates. We did see her giving other people the menu not long before we were told we can’t eat so maybe it was just something about us. We are clean, looked respectable, no idea why.

Great spot to grab breakfast while in San Sebastian. Conveniently located in the city center, spacious outdoor seating. A good selection of pinxtos and local dishes and great coffee. I definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting the city.
Miguel R — Google review
Definitely one of the best places to have a menu del día in Gros. You can get a two course all included lunch for 15€. It varies daily or weekly and offers tasty food with great quantities
Aritz O — Google review
Charming little cafe, friendly staff. If you need a break from all the savoury pinxtos then this is a great place for cake and coffee to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Ruwi W — Google review
Tasty food but horrible and rude service - we waited for over 45 minutes for the first dish and about 90 minutes into our visit, we gave up on waiting for our dessert and decided to ask for the bill. The waitress took another 20 minutes, so we got up and paid at the bar. When we pointed out to them that customers who had arrived long after us had already finished their lunch and we still had not had our dessert brought to the table, the waitress blamed the kitchen staff and got very frustrated with us. Not even a hint of an apology, of course. It’s a real shame, as the food is tasty.

Chocolate cafe
Sandwich shop
Churreria Santa Lucía, formerly known as Café Santa Lucía, is a must-visit spot in the Parte Vieja (Old Town) of the city. This diner has been serving up delicious churros and hot chocolate since 1956. It's a popular destination for those with a sweet tooth, offering a range of chocolatey treats including waffles, tostadas, and pastries.
This was such a nice find for us. We were looking for a place to get breakfast when we ran into this churreria. For 8 euros, we got two coffees, two croissants and a portion of churros. Everything was tasty, and the coffee was nice and hot. It's an experience in and of itself to sit in here and enjoy the vibe of the place. Definitely recommend going here, lunch and dinner is also possible.
Thirza S — Google review
Stumbled across this place that looked so old school. The churros were okay, not bad at all, but we had better in Madrid. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is wonderfully old school. Priced are good and the kids loved it.
Vivian S — Google review
Great and authentic chocolate and churros! We got the recommendation from a local and he said it's the best place to try it. It's a cantina-like restaurant which feels definetely local and not at all touristic. Can recommend :)
Max B — Google review
I didn’t come here for the chocolate and churros, which was my first mistake. My second—amd final—mistake was ordering the seafood paella. Instead I was served a soggy “seafood” pasta dish. The servers claimed that’s what I asked for, but it wasn’t. Needless to say, it was all downhill from there.
Robert L — Google review
Best best churos store ever. 5* chocolate dip. Very local style. Kind service.
Chayut O — Google review
The best churros we've ever had! The chocolate was not too sweet and the churros were freshly made. Really decent price to. The place is very busy and feels a bit like a greasy spoon, but don't be fooled, it is a good choice for cheap food.
Christian F — Google review
We felt like these were the best churros we’ve had in Spain. Period. Fresh, hot, crisp outside and doughy soft inside.
Heather B — Google review
Came to this place for their hot chocolate and churros. Didn’t disappoint. This place is not flashy but serves great drinks and chocolate. Give it a try.

Nestled at the intersection of La Avenida and Paseo de los Fueros, Más Qué Café is a delightful haven for breakfast enthusiasts. This charming café offers an extensive menu featuring everything from aromatic coffee and refreshing fruit juices to hearty tostadas, granola with yogurt, and delectable artisan pastries. The atmosphere is vibrant, making it a perfect spot to enjoy your morning meal while watching the lively streets of San Sebastián come alive.
A find. A small café serving light meals. All good quality, served by a friendly lady. It is small though, so getting a table may be difficult. Recommended (providing you get a table)

No wifi. Service was a bit rude. Tostada con tomate was plain. Coffee and atmosphere was very nice. Also, dragon design cafe con leche so there's that.

A really great cafè. Excellent coffee and tostadas, great staff. Fun to sit and have breakfast and watch San Seb come to life. Happily, Mes Qué opens early - this is my go-to cafè in San Seb.
