This isn't just a small cultural center—it's a comprehensive 50,000 square-foot institution that rivals major museums in much larger cities. The infrastructure is remarkable. This is an entry fee well worth spent. You could literally spend two days in this place looking at the exhibits.

My husband and I stumbled in here, the displays were so informative and I love learning about another culture. We ended walking around for a couple of hours, the clothes and music were by far my favorite, the ship was also pretty cool. The gift shop seemed crazy high in prices but worth getting a couple of trinkets to commemorate your visit, the ladies working there were so nice!

Wonderful museum in Cedar Rapids. I learned a lot about Grant Wood. Worth a visit if you're downtown. I appreciate the local artist exhibitions as well.

Highly recommend visiting! I love and appreciate the free admission during the summer months. They have such beautiful and unique art pieces that will rotate sometimes. It is so fun coming back and seeing what is new. The staff are friendly and helpful in answering any questions you may have. The museum is quiet, clean, and spacious. There are plenty of areas for sitting, including a large sitting and reading room. I also love visiting their gift shop that has a wide variety of items for anyone’s taste or preference, even having a kids section. We parked in front of the museum on the street, which is free on evenings and weekends. Looking forward to my next visit.

We happened to visit on a day that was free. Parts of the building have a mild mildew smell to it, I’m not a fan of that. That aside the seeing art with the kids was fun. It’s two stories and there’s a gift shop. Be prepared to pay well beyond retail value for everything except a soda at the gift shop.

I'll go ahead and give them five stars because it was free the day/time I went, and they don't force you to exit thru the gift shop. Otherwise it's a bit small but since I don't know what they charge even I won't judge them for that. What they did have was generally pretty impressive, the Grant Wood collection was surprisingly beautiful. The Roman section had some great historic items as well. There's as a large focus on local Iowa artists, and a lot of landscape works at the moment at least. Plenty of free parking in the area on weekdays, I saw a garage too but don't know the situation. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely worth checking out. Building is old and pretty cool.

I really enjoyed my first visit to this wonderful museum; my primary purpose was to see their Grant Wood collection. I phoned ahead of time to better understand their holdings as well as their relationship to the Grant Wood studio a few blocks away. I was fortunate enough to speak with Sean, the Executive Director, who went above and beyond to not only answer my basic questions, but also to provide many suggestions as to how to maximize my visit, including his recommendation to ensure that I view their works by Marvin Cone, whom I was not familiar with. I am grateful for Sean's guidance, and am now a new fan of Cone. The museum has a well-rounded curation, and features a variety of types paintings, sculpture, and ceramics, to name a few, as well as a fantastic museum store. I highly recommend a visit.

This museum features exhibits that cover the history of black people in Iowa and an overall history of black people in the US. The museum covers black Iowans that contributed to education, science, the civil rights movement and other fields. This place is a hidden gem that is worth visiting.

This is a small but powerful museum it captures the history and the spirit of the African-American in Iowa a story often never told .both my mother myself and my children enjoyed it'll take about an hour to an hour and a half to go through so if you find yourself in cedar rapids Iowa it's definitely worth the visit.

Learned more about Iowa's Black History. It would be great for parents to tour there to teach there kids. I could have spent more time. The audio headphones were great. I will go back! Very reasonable education.

Entrance is $6 but there is a student discount for high school ages. I thought it would be all sad things, but it actually was a perfect mix of things to make you smile and others which made you truly think of the history and significance of black people in the US. Would definitely recommend!

Having recently been to the holocaust museum, I wasn't sure what I was in store for here. Luckily it wasn't nearly as traumatizing of an experience, and was more one of education and disgust for prior generations, elders, and southerners that I felt. There's a ton to read in the first section and it's disturbing but very informative details on the slave trade. Then you go into accomplishments of African American scientists, athletes, president, etc. The current exhibit that I believe changes was racist items from the past. It's curious that people could ever think some of these things were acceptable or funny. Many people seem to act like this is far gone history, when it's kind of not. I'm a middle aged white guy and even I knew someone who knew a slave first hand. So if you think about it, it really wasn't that long ago, and this isn't something we should ignore or forget. Especially with everything going on today.

Highly recommend! Deb painted a watercolor portrait of our dog for a last minute gift and it was absolutely amazing. She exceeded my expectations, met my timeline and was so great to work with!

DKW is an amazing and energetic studio and gallery featuring local artists and supporting the arts in general. Deb and Mark are helpful, welcoming and amazing people who believe in their work and the work of the artists they support as well as their students. I have been taking art classes regularly at this studio and would recommend it to anyone, no matter what level of artist you are. Deb is a knowledgeable, fun and encouraging teacher and I've learned so much from her.

This art gallery is an absolute gem! The classes they offer are fantastic—whether you’re a total beginner or someone who’s been dabbling in art for years, there’s something for everyone. The instructor is not only incredibly talented but also super patient and encouraging. They make you feel right at home the moment you walk in. The whole atmosphere is welcoming and judgment-free, which made it so much easier to relax and actually enjoy the creative process. You don’t have to be “good” at art to feel like you belong here—they’re all about helping you grow and have fun along the way. Highly recommend checking it out. You sense imagination and wonder. I highly recommend going here at any artistic level. From only drawing stuck figures to pros, all are welcomed. My first class was creating an acrylic pouring of the American flag for the 4th of July. It was fun. Trust me. You will feel accomplished and at home. (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

DKW is amazing! I have been taking art classes from Deb for 2 years and she has so much patience and a great sense of humor. I am no artist, but she makes me feel like I am. The gallery carries some very talented local artists and has fun art shows. DKW is very involved with the local small businesses - they want to see everyone succeed.

Amazing artwork in all types of media. Beautiful set up. Wonderful friendly people. Definitely a great place to shop and relax. I recommend this unique place for many gifts. My kids have also taken a couple of the art classes and came home with beautiful pieces and more confidence. 5 stars for sure!!

A beautiful historic home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The house tour was informative, interesting, and even had a few twists! The grounds and gardens are beautiful and open to the public for a stroll, to walk the dog, or wander with children. It must necessarily be a wonderful and g.j gorgeous backdrop f ou r the many community arts events held there. I am looking forward to returning during the holiday season.

Only toured the grounds so can’t speak to the inside of the house. Grounds were beautiful to walk around, some paved paths, but otherwise you can just walk through the gardens and hilltop. Free to see the grounds so worth it for a quick stop. They could use some better signage for some of the buildings. Even if we had time to tour the house, didn’t even know where to get the tickets. One staff member we saw was less than helpful and couldn’t even direct us. Google maps may take you to the “exit” to get in, so look for the one small sign on 1st pointing to actual main entrance.

Very interesting and unique historic property. Only $5 to explore the mansion. The organ alone is worth the admission. The Grant Wood porch is a real gem for artistic types. I only wish the interpretive displays and brochures would explain more of how the families who lived here positively impacted the local community and how their philanthropy was significant to the city/region. Talking to the docents, there is a lot of additional information that could be shared. This additional information is what makes a historic property interesting. This alone dropped it one star. Otherwise, it would be five stars for me.

If you live in Iowa this is a must stop to learn about the families behind the biggest industries in Cedar Rapids. The home is filled with an amazing history and I truly enjoyed the tour.

Worth the price of admission. We had a great tour guide and it was just two of us . Tours are every hour. Gardens and property are nice to walk through as well. Very interesting history. Don't miss the basement

I'm definitely going to start reading the negative reviews not just the most recent ones! This place is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the images. Maybe 3 or 4 booths and same with tables. Mostly junk minus an excellent woodworker and a super sweet jewelry booth. Food looked average. If you are traveling through looking for something cool to do, dont bother with this one!

Cool little market place in the New Bohemian distric. It has a selection of food, coffee, sweets and vendors. Was here in a Saturday, but it wasn't too busy. If you're in Cedar Rapids, stop here and check it out.

Love this place for a drop in drink and/or bite. Usually has clean restrooms and good wifi. Great variety of eats and treats. Oja has the best wraps and cake rolls!! Roasters has the best smoothies!

There's always something new here, whether it be a new vendor, or the temporary vendors. Half sister took the business card of the person selling macarons and I wish I got a photo of it because they were both adorable and absolutely delicious. Can be crowded when they're busy, but it's a must-go for anyone who hasn't been and is looking for a snack or to kill some time walking around

Nice place to grab a bite and depending on weather, you can sit inside or outdoors. They also have trivia indoors for who may like to participate. Loved this place!! So glad we decided to stop in on our visit to Cedar Rapids. Such a great concept-- wish we had this back home! There are a lot of food vendors, which was perfect because we were stopping by at dinnertime. Everyone in my group was able to get exactly what they wanted, kind of like a food court in a mall. I got a bulgogi wrap and matcha boba from Oja, and both were amazing. My truffles from Lori Ann's Candies were some of the best I've had (highly recommend the maple cream). The non-food vendors had some super cute items, which seemed reasonably priced. Definitely worth a trip in!

As most have said this is an absolutely amazingly beautiful theater. It is an old theatre, so the seats are on the small side and being 6'4" the railings are quite low. We sat Row A Loge. Like "I decided against having a beer as I didn't want to plummet to my death" low. Other than that amazing show amazing venue great friendly staff. Highly recommend.

The Paramount Theatre is a wonderful venue, with elegant architecture, and superb acoustics. My Wife and I have been to theatrical plays (such as Cats), concerts, like Mandisa and The News Boys, and a comedy presentation with Preacher Lawson. All events have been very enjoyable and we continue to keep a watchful eye out for future events.

We are so fortunate to have this gem of a venue in Cedar Rapids. The property is so beautiful and completely restored after the 2008 flood. This a GREAT Place to take in a show. Our party of four attended The Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert they played a two hour non stop show and came back out for two more songs.

This is a beautiful place to see a show. It is a smaller, more personal venue. From the old ticket booth as the "Will Call", to the chandeliers, to the beautiful ceilings & interior, the venue itself is a show worth seeing. I saw Blue October in covert there, the sound was great as well. I will definitely go to shows here again.

We went to see Swan Lake. The production was phenomenal! However, I'll say that the seating is extraordinarily tight. There is no shoulder room. If you're on the end of a row, be prepared to step into the aisle rather than just standing to let someone out... very VERY tight. I'm less than five feet tall, and it was uncomfortable for me to sit through the entire ballet. If the seating were spaced more comfortably, I would have quickly given five stars.

The Paramount theater is a nice setting for plays, concerts and different kinds of shows. The acoustics are wonderful. The space is large, however it has a cozy feeling to it. There really are not any bad seats. The service people are nice and the refreshments are okay priced. It is a beautifully redone place well worth a visit. Just saw weird Al last night. Still a great place.

Went to a comedy show here. It is a very classical style of theater with attractive features. The seating map online made our seats appear further back, but we were surprised by how much closer we were to the stage.

My first ever experience was an all weekend Yogi Festival and I have met several artists including Morgan displaying her ceramic art, Jason Snell with his musical meditative brainwave research project, Yesandia improv festival for our youth, and now Monday night Unscripted through Lucky Cat, and Improv incubators. It’s fun to see the community come together and support several different artists and genres. I’m grateful we have CSPS to help empower local artists! Thank you!

SPT is Saturday night live in it's infancy. This is a fantastic show with original skits and live music.

The History center is a dual experience of learning about the past and current events of Cedar Rapids, it's businesses and important persons; as well as a closer look at this fine old house which was once upon a time a Funeral home. The exhibits are carefully curated and interestingly displayed. There are interactive learning stations that engage all age groups. Audio and video segments accompany some of the exhibits. A pretty sitting room has been decorated with artifacts from a locally famous hotel. This museum does an excellent job of making the past seem vital to today's city residents. The exhibits feel accessible and not untouchable as in many history venues. Walk up the grand staircase. Imagine life as it was. The staff person or volunteer that was at the front entry was friendly and informative. Giving us helpful guidance regarding directions through the house and reminders of a return visit to see the Grant Wood studio, which is right next door open on Weekend hours only. The admission was free during this month of July 2024, which had been sponsored by a local business. Please pass on my thanks to them for the fun afternoon.

It is very well curated. The property is kept in excellent condition, and I would recommend the site for any kind of event. Good people there.

Excellent staff! Incredibly display of information on our Linn County roots. Definitely worth checking out. The resource library is available by appointment.

Staffed with some excellent people. The museum has exhibits from pre-historic Iowa through the mid-twentieth century. Further exhibits regarding somewhat more contemporary events rotate throughout the year. The museum also contains an extensive library of historical documents for anyone doing local history research.

We love going to all the different artists receptions. This is the perfect date night for us. The artists are friendly and willing to answer questions and accept their accolades. The staff is top notch. This is my favorite gallery in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. They have amazing paintings, sculptures.

My design team and I regularly work with Gilded Pear. They have a beautiful gallery and very knowledgable staff. We're able to select art for our projects, meet with our clients in the gallery, and have precious art reframed when needed. My favorite project with Gilded Pear was a collaboration to create large scale original art with a favorite artist. With the artist filming her process, Suzy and Lauren fine tuning details, to a laugher filled installation this was a beautiful experience.

The Gilded Pear team was truly wonderful to work with. They are subject matter experts! They took a very beat up, old, blurry image and transformed it into a beautiful, sharp image our organization will cherish for years to come. It's an investment piece, but oh-so worth it. Cannot speak highly enough about this team!

We cannot get enough of this place! It all started a couple years ago when we decided to try Spongebob Squarepants the Musical for our child's birthday gift. I love musicals, but had no idea if the rest of the family would. I took my husband, son, my mom, and my niece along. We had such a blast getting the specialty crafted drink in a Spongebob cup, plus snacks, plus a show - that we've been regulars ever since. We try to go to 2 - 3 shows per year. The kids know that every Christmas they are getting a musical or two as an experience gift! We even have our favorite show time and favorite seats. The performances are always spectacular! School House Rock had the kids bouncing in their seats and clapping like crazy! The Waitress, Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast - fabulous! We can't wait until July to see Little Shop of Horrors! The staff (probably volunteers) are always helpful and kind.

I like the small size of this theatre. Everybody has a great view of the stage. I have been to two musicals and have tickets for a third. The actors and the orchestra are awesome. I will continue to patronize TCR. Keep up the great work TCR .

Absolutely loved it from atmosphere, seats, talent, spacing, customer service, concessions. My only drawback would be charging me 30% service charge for online tickets was crazy but still giving 5*

We went to see the Grant Wood Stroke of Genius , first time at theatre and was smaller than I am used to, but seats were comfortable and looked like every seat has a great view of stage. Attendants were very helpful and concessions not outrageous, you have to buy a cup ($3.00) instead of taking glass bottles in, but 1$ refill on pop (coke products).

My husband and I went to Rock Of Ages and was blown away! The cast were miraculous, they kept you moving in your seats with the songs, and did a terrific job acting in the play. We will definitely go to another play again.

What a fun hidden gem in Cedar Rapids!! This bar and music venue is so unique, full of history and fun. The drinks are amazing! We tried 4 on the menu and all were great. The old fashioned, their most popular was great. We didn’t try the food, but I like the idea that it’s themed towards a theater with options like popcorn and pretzels. Definitely try to make this a must try while in the area. Glad we stumbled into this and decided to stop by. The only reason for the 4/5 was because the person helping us and taking our orders clearly didn’t want us there. She was rude, but ended up getting better as we were there longer. We would still go back.

An amazing find. The Cider walk brought me here, and the craft deliciousness had me take a seat. I usually stick with an Old Fashion if I’m going to have a hard beverage, though an Apple Cider Daiquiri, special to the walk, will earn a second drink. I am by no means a drink connoisseur though if you’re also just happy to try something delicious, this is a place to do it. I probably won’t be back often, though The Ideal is a place I will remember and suggest. Cheers mate!

Ideal Theater & Bar hosted our holiday party and I could not be more impressed with the staff and venue. Casey Klein was excellent, incredible freestyling the announcements and playing awesome jams. If you are searching for a place to host a party, check them out!

Wonderful venue. Beautiful interior. Live music, dance lessons, two for one happy hour from 3 pm to 6 pm. They have an open jam night and feature many local and regional musicians. Music sounds great, and the acoustics are outstanding. Food available. Charcuterie plates and rich desserts. Check this place out. It is stunning and gorgeous and an all-around great venue.

This old converted theater is an amazing music venue! I came on open mic night, and was able to jam with the house band who were all amazing musicians! I would definitely recommend checking out this place for food and drinks as well. If you are in the Cedar Rapids area this is a place you must visit!

Very limited food. Charcuterie board of different sizes, local cheesecake, warm nut mix and that about it. The sound in here for live music is OUTSTANDING! Such a good mix throughout the room.

The Ideal is a beautiful place. I was there for a happy hour. There is enough p.a. in there for a room that could hold a thousand people. Now, I'm a special type of theater nerd. I've been in a lot of extant and operating early twentieth century Midwestern theaters tooling around in the Iowa Opera House Project in the twenty-teens. I have a big warm spot for the whole type- spaces built for sound before the common use of amplification. This is one of those. I'd love to see show in this super gorgeous, high ceilinged performance space. If there was a show, and I was you, I'd go. I bet under ideal conditions the sound is a treat. 80 people could pack it. Take 79 people with you and chill. Cool cocktails. Finger food. Frenz.

I have attended many events at the Olympic, and also hosted several, so I've had exposure to the venue and team both as a customer and a client. I recommend The Olympic highly! The facility is gorgeous and clean, the staff pleasant and attentive. I always know that if I'm at the Olympic, I'll have a great time!

I came in last Saturday night and was lucky enough to be served by Sage. She instantly made my night with her warm energy and bright smile. My drink was perfectly mixed and in my hand in under a minute! Seriously impressive! She was attentive without being overbearing and had such a great attitude the whole time. Honestly, Sage alone is worth coming back for.

We loved the event. Great stories and the MC was hilarious. Nicer mix of funny and creepy with the Poe stories.

The show was great! It helps to know the stories of Edgar Allan Poe, but great either way. The actors were fantastic! The drinks were fun too and tasted so good. Please dress as suggested. Fun time for some adult entertainment.

Gorgeous venue! We hosted a news conference at the Olympic and were very pleased with the location and amenities. The staff went above and beyond to help us make the event be successful. Highly recommend The Olympic! We are fortunate to have such a beautiful event venue in Cedar Rapids.

The staff at the Olympic Theater are first class! We cannot say enough wonderful things about Anna, the manager. We booked The Olympic while still under renovation, because we could see Anna's vision for the space! When it was finally ready for public use, we couldn't wait to say "I do" in a stunning art-deco theater! She allowed us to visit a number of times, answered all our emails in a timely manner, hosted a couple evenings of cocktail tastings, and even had her bartender create a homemade syrup for our signature drink! <3 Unfortunately, COVID restrictions forced us to make the decision to get married in our own backyard so that we could allow for 30 instead of 15 people. But that's when Anna come to our rescue. She offered to deliver the syrup, keg we picked out, and a couple beautiful glass cake stands to our HOME in Iowa City! We cannot wait to support Anna and The Olympic at future events. BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE!

Eastern Iowa is incredibly lucky to have an orchestra of the caliber in which Orchestra Iowa performs. Maestro Hankewich is engaging and entertaining and makes every concert a joy. The musicians are widely talented, bringing each note to life. My favorite series they offer is their chamber performances. Intimate and stirring, The dynamic the musician share with each other and the audience is astounding.

I am not sure the name of the man, but they are beyond disrespectful, talk to people like they are above them. I am not impressed with this group. And it's sad that one man ruins it for all of them. But more respectful to humans. 👍
