Great cafe with amazing venue. This old fashioned style building has loads of character. The menu is simplistic in length but superb in variations and tastes to suit all needs. This is in line with the best coffee and home made cakes in Dortmund.....sehr lecker! So impressed were we with Cafe Lotte on our first visit that we have been back 4 times between our European expeditions. However, what makes a place tick is the staff, charismatic and fun loving who love their job and made our visits so special....a must. Chris and Karen, Australia

Quite a big-ish place, but if you are a group I would recommend to book a table in advance. Quite a variety of drinks and breakfast options. The service was a bit slow, but it was a Sunday morning and there were a lot of tables (and I guess not so many waiters). We had a breakfast and a toast, and both of them were quite nice - good portions too. Looking forward to come back and try more options.

One thing that annoyed me at the very beginning was the fact that they had plenty of empty tables (never occupied) but they made you wait if you did t have a reservation. But after I had my cup now I’m suspecting whether this shop does instant espressos instead of pulling the freshly ground shots? Can’t say as I didn’t see the process how my cup was prepared. It’s a pity, as a store looks great and positions itself as a specialty coffee. But such a bad “empty” cup of cappuccino, of what was supposed to be a fruity natural bean… that was really unexpected. At the other branches of this roaster, I had an anaerobic natural Peruvian geisha that was OK, and a decent bit less-than-enjoyable natural Costa Rican as a batch.

I recommended Neues Schwarz in Dortmund if you need cozy place to meet up with friends. Latte is good if you like real coffee not too sweet or creamy, and for the cake is recommended because not too sweet. Ambiences for this cafe/coffeeshop is so good.

Excellent coffee! We visited the cafe on Saturday morning and were able to find a table for us. Cafe also offers variety of cakes. New-York cheese and Matcha coconut were really tasty. You can spend ample amount of time in there. Also , service was great. I would recommend checking out this cafe if you need coffee and relaxed vibe.

Food was great, but pretty expensive. BBQ burger with fries, schnitzel, pasta and soup, 2 beers and tap water cost you 70€. Service was great, really nice guy with great English. Great location, many tables and so many choices in menu. Oh and they provided extra bread to pasta and soup also!

I went there on September 7, 2025 around 10 PM. The waitress took advantage of the fact that I don’t speak German and forced me to pay 10% tip through the bill. Honestly, that felt unfair and not okay.

We had one of our best meals in Dortmund. The place was full but we were lucky to find a free table. We decided to go for the X-mass menu as it is available only for a limited time. The Dortmunde Gulasch was extremely delicious. Juicy with high quality beef meat. I really enjoyed it. The Gensekeule was rich and tasty. The chicken on Lavastein was a bit dry and the vegetables were ok. For dessert we had a Kaiser Schammar which was a delight. Extremely fine and must try.

Jovial staff, expansive decor and tasty food: what more can you ask for? I'd recommend trying out their dark chocolate drink (Azuco trinkschokolade Zartbitter): it's heaven in liquid form. Their salads are also plentiful and full of flavour, as shown. If you're visiting Dortmund, you won't go wrong giving this place a try. I'll definitely come back here again when next I visit Germany.

This large cafe restaurant sits adjacent to C&A - it even has an adjoining door for some reason - with seating inside and out in the square. I have visited this cafe in Dortmund a couple of times. Decent cappuccino, lovely cakes (that's a mandarin cheesecake in the photo) and the loveliest of staff. And it is one of the few decent cafes in Dortmund open on a Sunday.

We have been going there over the last couple of years and the coffee was always really good but today i was really shocked to see that the prices have increased once more and now a large cappuccino is €6.50, which i think is a bit pricey. A classic spot in Dortmund I wandered into early in my stay. Their window display was rather attractive and inside was more of the same. Lots of delicious looking chocolates and treats with a vegan option too. I was lucky enough to be helped by someone who spoke excellent English because I speak no German lol. She helped me with my bulk coffee order and other selections. After making my purchase, I went back to the café to enjoy my apple cake and coffee (unfortunately, they didn't have any plant based milk options). The spot seemed pretty popular and I imagine it would be even more crowded during warmer months. Note that the café is cash only (the front store does accept cards).

If you are at Hansaplatz, you are practically at their door, so do yourself a favor and pick up a dessert. We went early in the morning, so there was a lot of variety.
