The Peppered Cupcake is a charming, independently owned shop that serves up an array of creative sweet and savory cupcakes. Visitors can indulge in unique flavors like taro while also enjoying the quaint ambiance. The storefront features a cute cupcake vending machine, adding to the overall experience. While some patrons have encountered issues with berries on their cupcakes, others have raved about the freshness and deliciousness of the treats available.
Adorable shop with amazing cupcakes and abundant choices of flavors. We tried 4 different flavors, each were amazing! Definitely a must stop to treat yourself if you're walking around downtown! ❤️ 😍

Beautiful place; my wife was looking for anniversary cake for us to eat. We picked 4 delicious cupcakes from this store. Thank you for honoring the Lord Jesus Christ by playing Christian music. The checkout process with the QR code was streamlined. God bless you and your business!
Rene F — Google review
My daughter chose a cookies and cream cupcake and as she was eating it (maybe 10 minures after purchase) we found mold in the center. My child is allergic to mold, so this could've been very bad if I hadn't caught it before she ate it. I had planned to go purchase more cupcakes to take home, but I'll pass. I'd also like a refund. FYI, tried calling the number and did not get an option to leave a message. Also, tried FB and got a message saying you won't respond there. So, before you blast me, as you did other people who complained of MOLD, don't try that with me, I even asked another local business if they knew how to contact you. You may want to try actually speaking to customers and not avoiding them.
Nicole S — Google review
Purchased a cupcake yesterday. As I was eating I found mold in the middle. At first, I thought it was randomly a piece of blue cheese. Since that was the flavor I was getting, but then, as I looked closer, I realized it was mold growing on something in the cupcake. —I really appreciate the additional comment/ follow up from the owner. I can say that the cupcake was delicious up until that point. 😆. I hope you find a solution!
Courtney Z — Google review
Bought some cupcakes last night (6/4/25) for my wife’s bday. Our first time trying and we were so excited. We got home and decided to save our treats so we put them in the refrigerator. Well today I get home from work and decided to have a sweet tray for a snack. I start eating a cupcake and notice an odd taste from the filling. I look down a find mold. Needless to say we will not be going back.
Mason D — Google review
Saw the "Cupcakes" sign from the corner and had to go check it out and man are we glad we did!!! A cool variety of flavors already packaged and ready to go. We took ours back to our hotel and enjoyed with a cup of coffee. They were all delicious!
Jessica D — Google review
Omg!! This place was so cute. After dinner my daughter and I were walking to our car and ran across this place. We were surprised by the self-checkout/honor system. It was easy to shop and easy to pay. The cupcake was delicious too! We will definitely be back.
Daniella M — Google review
So, overall I was disappointed. judging from the other reviews I feel like maybe my experience (with the cupcakes not the service) was one of the few not so great, based off of all the good reviews I’ve read. We got 6 cupcakes and only three of them taste good. Peppered cupcake- AMAZING Berry something GF- TO DIE FOR Strawberry lemonade- great! Minus the yellow frosting that had the taste and texture of butter with a hint of lemon (we did eat this just not yellow frosting) Coconut and birthday cake - SALTY- WAY too salty to eat And the double chocolate something (I think)- just absolute liquid sugar overload

Restaurant
Baker's Kitchen Restaurant & Bakery is a downtown favorite known for its all-day breakfast, American lunch mains, and delectable baked goods. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh bread, bakery items, and pies. Housed in a charming brick building dating back to 1924, the eatery prides itself on friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors rave about the generous portions of Southern breakfast fare like cinnamon rolls and the must-try Dutch Potatoes dish at an affordable price.
I’ve been to Baker’s Kitchen many times and they never disappoint! I love their waffles because the butter syrup is beyond amazing! We have also tried the biscuits and gravy and the grilled cinnamon rolls. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They have two levels of seating. The restaurant does get busy, but the wait is worth it! Trust me, you have to try Baker’s Kitchen!

We had breakfast here a year ago, so when we made it back to the area we had to be sure to go here for breakfast. We love the butter syrup and French toast. Just look at the cinnamon bun breakfast with eggs and sausage. Don't miss out on the delicious food and friendly service.
Adam N — Google review
Had the best hamburger steak I’ve probably ever had today! It was seasoned perfectly and the onions, mushrooms and brown gravy were delicious! The sweet potato casserole was good as well. The Mac and cheese was fine, but I prefer mine baked. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal.
Stacy R — Google review
Don't expect quiet, the place is always packed & for good reason. Friendly staff, super home style cooking, and coffee to die for. We had the most amazing breakfast this morning (see pics). Be sure to order the Dutch potatoes, they're a fabulous Julianne potato casserole!
Phil V — Google review
Great experience at Bakers Kitchen. We were driving through New Bern from the beach when my spouse suggested we eat here. I pulled up the website and was able to add my name to the waitlist. I then received updates for when our table was ready. We easily found a parking spot near the restaurant and checked in at the front desk. My spouse purchased a Nutella cinnamon roll (not photoed) from the front. The staff member was kind and told him how to heat it up at home. It was delicious. Our waitress was super friendly. She came to our clean table quickly and we had a nice conversation. My husband wasn't sure what kind of potatoes he wanted so she told him if he didn't like his choice she'd bring him something else. Husband ordered the hunger farmer. He loved everything except the Dutch potatoes. They were lacking in flavor. My child ordered an egg, bacon, and toast. She ate it all. Our waitress made sure she had plenty of butter and jam. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a Belgian waffle (which my child ate all of. Everything was super good. My picky child asked to go back again soon so I say it's a win!

This place was good. Wait was around 30 minutes but Saturday morning so it didn’t matter much. Server was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Food was alright, nothing special and while other dishes were good, I definitely would not recommend the funfetti pancakes. The space is large and decorated nicely, which overall contributed to a solid Saturday morning brunch.
Mylo B — Google review
We had a wonderful experience at Baker’s Kitchen. The service was friendly and attentive, and the menu offered plenty of delicious options to choose from. Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. The highlight was definitely the fluffy French toast with butter syrup: absolutely amazing and worth the visit on its own! A great spot for breakfast or brunch in New Bern. Highly recommend!
Veronique E — Google review
Mmm! Wow, what a delicious breakfast. Our family had breakfast twice withing a few days after being recommended. This place was so good and the food was delicious. We agreed to come back again to try something new, because it all sounded great and there are some very interesting options. Great wait staff, so friendly and energetic. We didn't want for a thing while we were there. It will be one of our favorites to frequent.

Lighthouse Bagels and Deli is a family-owned breakfast spot in Corolla, NC that has been serving up delicious handmade bagels since 2000. They offer a variety of homemade bagels, donuts, deli sandwiches, and salads. The bakery specializes in home-made donuts, pastries, cupcakes, and custom cakes. Visitors can enjoy a breakfast sandwich or indulge in the crowd-favorite: their signature French Toast Bagel.
I highly recommend a trip to lighthouse bagels. The service is quick, although the shop does get busy quickly, go early if you can. Service is also very friendly and can make ordering fun if you have a good attitude with them. Overall the prices are very good at about $2.50 a bagel when ordered by the bakers dozen. Sandwiches and cinnamon rolls are more experience but still a fair price in my opinion. Check them out for breakfast. They have a good amount of outdoor seating too.
Chris — Google review
This native New Yorker had to try the NY bagel shop when in Corolla. I had saw a TikTok featuring this place weeks ago and knew I wanted to try it. So after catching the sunrise we headed over to the bagel shop around 7am and there was already a line outside. That’s a good sign in my book! The line was long but it moved swiftly. Lots of staff on deck with pleasant attitudes greeting and helping the customers. I was waited on by a man training another young man. He was friendly and efficient and obviously invested in the training of the individual. Now to the important part of the visit. The bagels! Fresh and delicious and absolutely reminiscent of what I’d find back home in Long Island, NY. The cream cheese is homemade and delicious and they really are generous with the smear…. Which if you know anything about NY bagel shops…. They go heavy on the cream and without request. We tried an egg everything bagel and Sriracha everything Bagel, bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. They did not disappoint. We also had to try a cream cheese bagel and had onion and the beer pretzel bagel. Both also yummy. I do wish I had my normal favorite of the salt bagel but the reviews hyped the beer pretzel, so I had to try. Pretty tasty. Overall the place was fast, fresh and delicious. The service was awesome and I would definitely recommend!
Belinda S — Google review
A good place for quick breakfast. There’s bagels are fresh and their breakfast sandwiches are plenty. On a weekend there’s always going to be a line so plan ahead. Their service is quick so doesn’t matter the crowd. The bagels are nice and fresh with a variety of cream cheese options. The coffee cake was not that great, just a load of sugar in a cake.
Komal K — Google review
Honestly, these are the best bagel breakfast sandwiches my wife and I have ever had—and we’ve been coming here since 2001. Truly authentic NY bagels in a variety of flavors. Sandwich ingredients are prepared on the spot, and it’s always consistent. A true home run.
John K — Google review
The best bagels I’ve ever had! So fresh, incredible flavors, and their cream cheeses are deluxe! The line was out the door… that’s when you know they are that good! The staff was hustling making the wait time barely 10 minutes. Get you some bagels!!
Bethany M — Google review
Sandwiches & to-go bagels are a must for me when stopping for breakfast or lunch. With my food allergies, they always take pride in ensuring my meal is made safe and I am beyond appreciative. Amazing service & food!
Steph H — Google review
Big bagels and sandwich options. The bagels are doughy and made fresh. There’s tons of variety too. I got a rosemary and salt bagel that was delicious with lox and cream cheese. You can tell this place is Jersey made with their sandwiches and use of Taylor’s ham. Lots of outside seating options and right across from Timbuck II so shopping is an easy get to
Cassie S — Google review
Bagels were good, but the service was not the best. One of the staff members was not the nicest when we were selecting a 12 pack of bagels. Inside the restaurant was not the cleanest either. Food was great though.

Orange Blossom Bakery & Cafe is a long-standing establishment located in Buxton, known for its famous "apple uglies" and a variety of breakfast items. The bakery, which started as a motel in the 1950s, has been serving early-morning sweets for several decades. In addition to their renowned apple uglies, the cafe offers breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts, pastries, and homemade cakes for special occasions.
Crazy place!!! Packed -inside and outside. That alone tells you how good this place is! It was the best chocolate muffin I have ever had-Ever! The Apple Ugly was so yummy..best if eaten fresh and warm. The chocolate Danish was also very delicious. One of the nicest ladies came down the Long Wait Line to help people take sandwich orders to help move the line along. Highly recommend this Cute, Little, Very Busy Bakery!!!!
Cynthia B — Google review
Follow the line of cars and pull into a packed parking lot and you will find the Orange Blossom. Amazing pastry that are larger than life. Place your order and have a seat outside and wait for the curtoius staff to call your name. You won't leave hungry. Highly recommend. Limited hours
Tai S — Google review
Okay what everyone says about the apple uglies is true, you definitely want to try them!!! But there are also a lot of other yummy treats: cinnamon rolls, hand pies and lots of different breakfast sandwiches. The place itself is small and quaint. The only downside is this isn't really a place you can sit and enjoy. The only seating is outside and its been super hot so that's not an option right now. But totally worth it to pick up and take home!
Michele G — Google review
I’ll say it again in case you missed the other review: the cinnamon buns with icing are to die for! We also got breakfast sandwiches here and a couple apple uglies. It was busy both times we stopped in (on a vacation) and we were not disappointed about the hype! Delicious, delectable, yummy, not-sharing-mine, obviously not freezer food, generous portions… I’ll miss you Orange Blossom Bakery. There’s no one quite like you back home… Other notes: you can’t eat-in but there’s a porch that seats around 16 or so. It’s not wheelchair friendly so please have your friend pop in for you.
Melissa H — Google review
the famous apple ugly is made for sharing! unless you’re very, very hungry. the cinnamon apple combo is reliably delicious, and the sugar glaze pairs reasonably well with the donut dough beneath. the cinnamon roll is a much more manageable size. if you’re looking for a bagel or food that’s not shown in the display, there’s a bit of a longer wait because of how busy they get. definitely a loved breakfast spot in avon.
Fiona S — Google review
Bought 3 apple uglies which look delicious! Got a bagel burner sandwich which was really tasty. Nice people working there. Very happy I finally get to try an apple ugly. Very very busy establishment so I knew it was going to be good.
Steph K — Google review
So the food was pretty good. Conning roll and ugly were both good. The parking lot was kinda crazy. Too many cars for the space. The line was pretty long to order anything. It’s good, but be prepared for some chaos to get your order.
Aaron G — Google review
The apple uglies are the bomb! They are delicious warm and at room temp with cinnamon and apples swirled throughout! The chocolate iced donuts are a cross between Krispy Kreem and a cake donut and taste delicious. The iced cinnamon buns are great too! Going back for more and to try their coffee.

Wow! Darn good food that won't kill your wallet. Three of us filled up on scrumptious food, one had a beer and our bill was less than $50. Our server was very friendly, and it seemed all the servers were friendly. Their parking lot isn't very big but there is some parking on the street.

The outdoor patio is lovely with plenty of fans to beat the summer heat. The staff is friendly and accommodating, especially for large groups. The spicy Philly cheese is top-notch. Plenty of parking however can be a challenging when busy but it's worth it for the huge and delicious burgers and sandwiches. Don't miss the shrimp bisque—it's highly recommended!
Danny Z — Google review
This place is definitely a gem! We were in town for a sports tournament and looking for a good place to eat. We try to eat locally whenever possible, instead of doing chains. We opted for this spot based off positive reviews. It did not disappoint! It's a cute little place with a down home feel. The service and the food were very good. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are generous. They were able to accommodate my son's gluten free diet without any issues, including dessert. We are so glad we decided to give them a try and will definitely return next time we are in the area!

Stopped in after spending a few hours at the beach. It was our first time here. And it was one of the few places that was not about to close so we wouldn't feel rushed. This is an awesome restaurant! Super friendly staff! Our server Erika was patient with us as we were deciding what we wanted. Then she brought some pretzel buns with tomato basil bisque while we waited for our food. Other staff came over to check on us when Erika was busy helping others. They were attentive. We also enjoyed the music playlist. The atmosphere was enjoyable. The food was exceptional. The steak ordered was perfectly cooked. Ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious. The gyro was delicious. The chicken burger was cooked to order and was filling. Our Cuban sandwiches we tasty and filling. You definitely get your money's worth here. Portions are right. No skimping. Definitely worth a visit. Next time we are in Wilmington we will have to come back.
Boz R — Google review
We came in as a group of 4 and a baby. We got sat at a good size table for our company. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. She just didn't come by right after we got our food, and we wanted some additional condiments. We had the shrimp and grits, which were delicious, 5 stars, and would definitely come back for that. I also tried the corned beef hash which was also 5 star delicious! I was happy they had gf bread on the menu as well. There is a large selection on the menu and it was hard to decide what to try. I got a side of bacon with my entrée and it was perfectly cooked! The ranch was also outstanding!
Jesse L — Google review
This restaurant is a great place to eat dinner. The food was delicious, and the portions were large. The food was very delicious it exceeded our expectations. The pictures don't do it justice. You need to visit and see for yourself.
Roberto L — Google review
Cute cafe with some very fun decorations. I think this is better as a breakfast/brunch place than dinner. Pancake hush puppies were SO good/highly recommend. Our cheesecake was so soft that it could be described as melted in the middle but still had good flavor. The shrimp in my shrimp and grits was awesome. Very friendly staff and no wait on a Saturday evening.
Cassie B — Google review
Just a few miles from the beach, this cozy space was truly a spectacular find. Amazing atmosphere, clean, inspirational, and friendly service made early breakfast a treat. That was all before the delicious meal. The breakfast menu was truly filled with great selections, so be prepared for the most challenging part of your visit. While waiting for my meal, curiosity had me pull up both their lunch and dinner menus, and no surprise, it was just as enticing. Not only do they have an expansive menu for each meal, but the portion size is huge! The salmon benedict with spinach on top of a toasted Cuban bread was well presented, flavorful, and just delightful. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely return when I'm back in the area, if for nothing else, to explore their other menus.

The Original FAMOUS Bagel Dock Cafe of Calabash is a beloved spot for bagel enthusiasts. Visitors rave about the delicious everything bagels and the exceptional jalapeno cream cheese. The unique ice coffee with coffee ice cubes is also a hit. Many patrons appreciate the friendly and accommodating owners, as well as the soft, fluffy, and fresh bagels available in various flavors like ghost pepper and pepperoni pizza.
This is one of the most amazing treasures in Calabash. I lucked into them on a recent trip and I wish I had more room to try several more things. There is so much variety that even the pickiest of eaters will find something that wows them. I can’t wait to go back.
Nic R — Google review
I liked the Bagel Dock. Products and pricing was good. Everyone was busting their butts the entire time we were there around 1pm on a Sunday. The point of sale marketing was super heavy and thought out and I believed without researching that it is a concept for franchising. Ownership and management presence during our visit was also unusually heavy for the volume I witnessed. Based on what I saw at this time of the day I suspect that ownership was concerned about resetting for a holiday Monday and even when expecting a heavy hit with business the next day the level of that attention leads me to believe costs may be out of hand or there is an unhealthy amount of analysis paralysis with the numbers. Management seemed slightly stressed during my visit due to the ownership presence. Other clues give me concern about the health of this store. The Ace Hardware help wanted sign on the front door says desperation along with handwritten hours of operation rather than being permanent. Watching ownership interview a new hire and consulting management without smiling tell me that this could be a tough place to work. Just a couple of reviews in doing a little research shows ownership has a poor attitude and business ethic. Additionally, the number of cameras in the back of the house and dining room is concerning. My experience is that kitchen cams are meant to keep management straight and at this point I would recommend that if owners are being consulted, they should bring in other opinions. I would suggest having the GM from Boundary House come in as a mystery shopper. He runs great service and the staff are very welcoming. I saw some great team members here working hard today but something is wrong here. The comments on many of these reviews are concerning and that attitude leads to attrition and putting your keys on the counter and not coming back. You will lose everything by acting like that. Update : No soup for me.
Chris L — Google review
Very delicious! There was a very long line but after getting the food, it was obvious why. The bagels are perfect - not too doughy and have a crispy outside. I got the Ragin Cajun on a Chesapeake cheddar bagel and I'll get it again Even though the line was long, the food didn't take too long to come out.

Very solid bagel, bacon egg & cheese sandwich, and apple strudel! The place was packed with a long line, but that comes with territory on MDW. Despite the crowds employees were all hustling, but polite and efficient. Would definitely recommend when looking for a bagel breakfast in Calabash. We will be back!
Ryan F — Google review
Poor Service and Overpriced Food — Beware! I paid nearly $18 for a cheesesteak, and the pickles, which were supposed to be a side that I paid for, were never included with my order. The sandwich was described as being served on “Italian bread,” but what I received was far from what any New Yorker would call Italian bread. When I called to address the issue, the owner was rude, dismissive, and said she didn’t have time to talk. She even hung up on me and refused to correct the mistake or offer any kind of solution. The “Italian Hero” was about an inch wide and as flat as a pancake. The food quality was poor and did not resemble the pictures on the menu. The prices are extremely high for what you get, and the overall experience was disappointing. FYI before buying any sandwiches or heros ask to see what you will be getting before you waste your time and money. The owner told me to get over myself over pickles! It was more than not giving me pickles, 64.00 dollars later 1 small 4 inch narrow roast beef with nothing at on it, a cheesesteak that was supposedly 8 inches and about 1 inch wide, and 2 bagels with 2 eggs and a slice of cheese on each. She needs to get over herself. In summary, this place is overpriced, unprofessional, and lacks basic customer service. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere—you’ll get better food and better treatment.

My favorite little spot in Calabash — the Original Famous Bagel Dock Cafe! I’ve been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. Their bagels are always fresh, warm, and just the way I like them—soft inside with that perfect little crunch outside. The coffee is strong and comforting, and their water is specially filtered, which somehow makes everything taste even better. I absolutely love their strawberry-filled center pastry—sweet, flaky, and just heavenly. And my son can’t get enough of their homemade cream cheese—it’s the best we’ve ever had. The staff are genuinely friendly, and the whole place has such a welcoming, homey vibe. Whether I’m grabbing a quick breakfast or sitting down for a casual lunch, it feels like a little oasis in town. It’s one of those rare spots where you’re treated like a regular from day one. If you love bagels, amazing pastries, or just want a cozy, feel-good place to eat, this is the one I always recommend.

Staff is so nice and manages the waves of people so well. Bagels are perfectly moist, and the crust is spot on. I got the crab cream cheese, and it was wonderful! Definitely want to come back for the burgers and desserts.

Burney's Bakery of Southport is a charming bakeshop that offers a delightful selection of breakfast pastries, classic desserts, and ice cream. Visitors can indulge in glazed croissants, apple fritters, donuts, pies, cakes, and freshly brewed coffee. The bakery also serves delectable ice cream alongside other sweet treats. Customers have praised the warm and welcoming staff who go above and beyond to provide exceptional service.
I kept my hopes in check before visiting… because I love croissants, donuts, cronuts, cruffins etc and didn’t want to be disappointed. I definitely was not! This is a cute bakery that had very friendly staff. The croissants are small and super affordable. I got 2 to try- buttercream and gingerbread. Both were so good, I stopped back after exploring the area to get 6 to bring home. The cream cheese one is like a pudding that tastes like the center of a cheese danish. They also sell other baked goods which I’d like to try… but it would be hard not to order the croissants!

Go get some milk before you stop so that you can immediately start slamming glazed filled croissants down your face! You will need the milk to wash it down and cleanse your palate because you will in fact eat multiple of these bad boys! The long johns are also chefs kiss! We have tried cakes and other items and they have been ok, but don’t waste your time there. Hammer the croissants 🥐!!! Make it happen! Your mouth will be so happy! To those about to nosh, I not only salute you, I am jealous!!

We saw this bakery yesterday on our way to eat. So we went out for cronuts this morning. Ms. Jen was awesome. It was our first time so she gave us all a glazed cronut and it was delicious. I love that she asked me if I wanted inside or outside for my brownie. I'm an inside brownie person. If you are ever in Southport, NC make sure you stop by, you won't be disappointed!!

It was our first time visiting this bakery and wow!! It definitely won't be our last. This place is phenomenal! We got a lil variety box. The croissants are the best out of everything we tried. I would highly recommend getting those. The top 3 favorite croissants in our group were: apple cinnamon, maple bacon and their chocolate croissant. Can't wait to come back to try more, maybe they can make a Nutella, cookie butter or Dubai chocolate croissants 😉😊? I love my sweets and this place fulfilled my cravings, hands down. Thank you so much !

Sweet tooth in regards to pastries and baked goods not satisfied? Look no further than Burney's Sweets & More! Please bring your patience, this is a busy little shop and it will be worth the wait. A lot of folks talk about their glaze, stuffed croissants, but they have more sweets to help keep your dentist and doctor in business. Treat yourself or treat someone else, just stop by and get a sweet treat. Make sure you've got some milk or coffee when you sit down to enjoy these treats...I'm just saying...

Stop here if you can because you won’t regret it! First time coming here today and we were very impressed with Burney’s Bakery. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Whether you like croissants or not you definitely need to get a box of them. They are some of the best croissants my wife and I have ever had. Thank you Burney’s for the awesome baked goods! We will be back for sure next time!

Tullio's Bakery is a charming and unpretentious spot that has become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike. Known for its delectable offerings, the bakery serves an array of cakes, doughnuts, pies, breads, bagels, and mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches. Many patrons rave about their experiences here; one memorable occasion involved ordering a stunning Gender Reveal Cake that was beautifully crafted by the attentive staff. Families often make Tullio's part of their morning routine when visiting Duck.
We had a wonderful experience with Tullio’s! They created a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for my 2-year-old daughter—everything I imagined and more. I was especially impressed that they were able to bring it all together with just three days’ notice. The design was spot-on, the flavors were amazing, and the whole process was seamless. Highly recommend them for any special occasion!

Traditional Italian bakery it was very nice on inside. I got the lobster tail, rainbow cake, black and white cookie and sfogliatelle. I loved the lobster tail and the black and white cookie was the best I'd had since NYC. The rainbow cake was good but light on jam but still very good. The sfogliatelle I didn't like but I just don't like ithe pastry in general it was my first time having one. The layers were great and it was baked perfectly. My sister got key lime pie it was really good the crust was perfect.

We ordered a cake for my husband’s 50th birthday party in advance, It was supposed to have gold flakes with gold balls with matching cupcakes with gold writing for 50th in his name. When we got there, there was no flakes on it and they had said that they could put it on if we could wait for spending $131 for a cake and a dozen cupcakes it should’ve been perfect prior to us getting there. We had been up since 5:30 in the morning and we still had a 2 Hour Dr. to get to our house on the beach, the cupcakes had confetti on them instead of gold balls. The cakes tasted awful like a pound of Crisco was used. They were not buttercream frosting. It was awful. I called the owner Dawn to inform her of what happened and instead of letting me speak, she got on the offense She stated how she And her husband on the cameras them offer me to put the flakes on even though we were exhausted and it should’ve been ready when we got there and then stated that it took me two days to call her. We had picked them up on Sunday We celebrated on Monday night and I called her the next day after we ate them she was extremely rude and Didn’t care“I am the only person out of 14,000 people who did not like the taste of her cake’, unfortunately for her, there were several of us at this birthday, but did not like the taste of the cake or the cupcakes. So before you spend or ridiculous amount of money search elsewhere is my recommendation Unless you like a ton of Crisco/lard in every bite of your cake not done the way you had planned it to be. And an extremely rude owner !

We knew we'd be visiting family in Corolla on the weekend of my son's second birthday. I knew from previous visits that Tullio's made some gluten free treats, so I decided to ring them about making a gluten free cake. We settled on a 12" gluten free almond cake with buttercream frosting. The cake was about $80. (Base price was about $70 - I asked for green grass atop the cake which cost $10 extra.) They offered to do the jungle animals for an additional $15, but I opted to get the decorations from Amazon and place them myself. I'm a control freak like that, hehe. Something you need to know when ordering a cake is that you can't specify a pickup time, only the day. You might be the first cake done at 8am or the last cake done just before 6pm. Since they need to sanitize their baking supplies, they did our cake close to the end of the day. That created some challenges with our plans, but we made it work. Best part - The cake. I was extremely pleased with the gluten free almond cake. It was moist and flavorful. I would definitely order it again. Not favorite part - The frosting. My Italian baker mother-in-law said it's fantastic authentic buttercream. To me, it tastes like a mix of buttercream and whipped frosting. As a note, I grew up on traditional country style buttercream (unsalted butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract, milk). This wasn't that. Just know going into the order that it'll be a little softer than the buttercream that stiffens. It doesn't taste bad, just not what I was expecting. No one got sick from gluten contamination. That's a huge deal! Would I order another cake? Yes. Do I love that Duck has a proper bakery? Yes! Would I recommend them? Yes.

Although it’s clearly a family owned business with their “high end” cars (that look about 10 yrs old) parked backwards in front of the shop of course not leaving the spots for their customers. They are leas than friendly or understanding when you let them know if something isn’t quite right. The wife is very nice but the husband is arrogant and not friendly at all. They blast awful music outside so loudly at 7 am you can’t even have your coffee in peace. Not that you would want to eat there they have garbage cans across from each table and attract tons of flies. They should clean up the area and make it nice for people who want to stay. I had what I call the best almond crescent ever and when I came back into town this week I headed straight there. This time the crescent had no almond paste inside zero none and it wasn’t just one my husbands as well. I went back to nicely let them know and the husband was so rude so not understanding and said it was filled…. We are self employed and own a retail business and you should be kind and understanding to your customer. He should have offered me something else or at the least apologized. Your food is only as good as the people who serve you. They are the classic expression They are successful in spite of themselves!

Stopped by yesterday to pick up cupcakes for my 31st birthday and let me tell you…they did not disappoint!! Walking in the door the place smelt so good and sweet! We ended up getting chocolate indulgence, black velvet, chocolate strawberry, carrot cake, and citrus berry! The cupcakes were delicious. The cake itself was SO MOIST! This is the cutest little cupcake bakery! They also serve a small variety of cookies and bars. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Your cupcakes are packed in a nice cardboard box keeping them safe for traveling. I am not normally a chocolate cupcake person because they are typically dry… however, HappyCake’s chocolate cupcakes are very moist. The Oreo cupcakes are my favorite. My second favorite is the coconut. The frosting on all the cupcakes are amazing! These cupcakes are wonderful for special occasions, dinner party desserts, or a little treat to make you “happy!”

Picked up some cupcakes and a cookie from Happy Cakes in Morehead, NC, and they nailed it. The cupcakes were soft, flavorful, and topped with frosting that was smooth and perfectly sweet. The cookie was just as good, with that fresh-baked taste that’s hard to find anywhere else. Staff was friendly and clearly take pride in what they do. Everything tasted homemade in the best way. Definitely a must-visit spot for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Gingerbread Bakery and Pizza is a delightful spot on Hatteras Island that brings a burst of color and cheer to your dining experience. With its vibrant murals, this counter-service eatery offers an array of freshly baked breads and sweet treats, making it the perfect place for breakfast or a quick snack. But that's not all—Gingerbread Bakery also serves up delicious pizzas, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Don’t miss stopping here! The owner only uses high quality, fresh ingredients. The Margharita pizza is to die for. Sincerely. Place is hopping busy because the pizza and baked goods are out of this world delicious. The owner is very interesting to chat with. Cool guy, world traveler foodie extraordinaire. We will always stop here when we visit Hatteras. Best pizza/bakery in the OBX!

My first visit to the Gingerbread House was in 1991 on a family vacation. It was so good, we had it for dinner for four of our six nights. Visited again in 1999, 2019, and 2021. Best pizza anywhere. We came back this past week with the new owners. It's not the same. To be clear, the staff are amazing, both on the phone and in person. Prices are also very competitive in relation to other spots nearby. But the pizza isn't the fluffy, flavorful pizza I've enjoyed over the past decades. It's now a thin, New York style pizza, where the sauce, the cheese, and the crust are all mingled together in one thin layer. The sauce is slightly sweet (and good), the cheese is flavorful, but the original crust is gone. Even at the edges, the crust doesn't have any real flavor on its own. Change can be a good thing, but in this case, I miss the original. I wish the new owners the best of luck in developing with new clientele.

Great experience overall. Place was quiet as we were there out of season. Low on staff and not offering “dine-in” service at the time we were there. The owner told us we were fine to sit on the patio and he would bring us our food. We are restaurant people so none of this bothered us and we greatly appreciated him allowing us to dine on site. Food was excellent. Pizza specifically was very good. I own a restaurant and have been a pizza guy for around 20 years. This pizza is legit. Have patience with the service as staffing seems to be tough in this market. Even though he was short staffed he made us feel very welcome and appreciated. Solid choice for a casual meal! Will return when we are in the area again!

Great pizza as always. Little slow this time taking almost 90 minutes for pizza and fries. But I will tell you, these guys were working hard. When I walked in there was a big table full 4 more families walked in after us for take out and the phone kept ringing. All that being said, great pizza and worth the wait. Just call ahead and order earlier than you want your pizza!

We ate here twice on vacation this past week! Once dine-in, second pickup. Both times the pizza was phenomenal. We love a good pizza and they did not disappoint. The freshness of their ingredients shined through each time. Also loved they had a chicken tender option for my picky eater daughter. If you are in the area definitely give them a try! We will be back next year!

We have been coming here for years, and with the recent change in ownership I’ve been mindful to keep an eye out for changes. Well I’d say it’s nothing but good changes so far! The pizza is, dare I say, better. We got the bbq, a half cheese half pepperoni, and the east coast. Very good! Highly recommend. For those 3 large pizzas it was about $75 total with tax. I have never been inclined to get the bakery items. I remember I had a few under the old ownership and I was never impressed. I think they’re currently in a re branding phase. They have breakfast sandwiches in the morning hours, they have lunch hours as well. Previously they just had dinner hours. They also had printed out menus with the titles “Hatteras island pizza”, so I don’t know.

Was in Little Washington and craving soup for some reason. So so happy this little gem of a bakery popped up in my Google search. Wish I lived closer. Would definitely make this place a regular on my list. Got veggie soup and 1/2 a BLT on Gruyere bread with pimento cheese for lunch. Cost about $7.00. Tasted so good I went back in after and got a whole loaf of Gruyere along with 16 oz. of the pimento cheese and another 16 oz. of chicken salad to boot. That cost about $35.00. Guess what I'm having for dinner tonight? Lol NOTE : Google Maps puts you in a parking lot then gets you to walk around the block. There are cut thrus but I didn't notice them until after I ate. This is easily mine off my top 3 favorite bookstores ever ( and I’ve visited many). It’s very unassuming, and easily mistaken for a bakery or something. There are delightful baked goods available, as well as other local food items and coffee, but this place is so much more! Walking in the place smashes you as a vintage store with goodies. Every minute you are inside you discover something new, whether it’s an old toy from your childhood or an incredibly old classic book, making it a place to spend time discovering. The upstairs is a wonderful imagination station for adults and children including toys, dress up attire, and more books than imaginable.

Really love this place. My kids loved it as little kids and they still love going with their teenage/young adult friends. Cozy, unique, quiet and engaging atmosphere. Always something to see. My kids used to love trying on the closet of 'dress up' clothes. Now they enjoy getting a special Italian soda or coffee and looking thru all the books. So many treasures here. I love this shop and visit it every year when the family goes to Topsail for vacation. Good coffee and baked goods (try the jam bars!), but the real treasure is the labyrinthine mix of used books, art, and local goods in the space. You will definitely find texts here you can't get anywhere else. Why only 4 stars? Some of the book pricing feels a bit too much of a cash grab. Of course this is a business, making money is the point, but charging $10 a pop for vintage scifi less than half an inch thick that's moldering away leaves a bit of a sour taste. These generally aren't well-known authors, and collector value in my (perhaps uninformed) opinion is pretty low. The bookshelves are overflowing, which may add to the treasure-hunt feel, but it would be easier to shop it if everything fit on their shelves in the normal fashion rather than being piled everywhere. The piles of books have also cut into the very limited seating. I think if they're going to continue being a café as well as a used bookstore they should make sure their tables and chairs remain usable. Unfortunately, some of the book inventory is simply not priced to move; it gives the implication that someone would rather store it indefinitely vs selling it for less than they think it's worth. I actually found one with what seemed to be old mouse droppings between some pages; it's clear that whoever acquires/curates the used books needs to pay more attention to what goes on the sale floor. While I agree that haggling at a small local business is in tasteless, the sign against it doesn't give the friendliest of vibes when you walk in the store. Some sort of bulk discount for used books might be nice, and would help them clear more space, but asking would almost certainly run afoul of the no haggling rule ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I absolutely love this shop. I could spend all day just browsing around, unfortunately my husband would definitely get tired of waiting. I really wanted to like this spot. But it was quite overpriced for the used books and other items. I find Goodwill, Salvation Army or even eBay to be more affordable. It’s also overwhelmingly cluttered (likely due to not selling enough books/items regularly - because it’s so $$$) Coffee was decent. Baked goods were ok. Gal at front serving coffee, however, was not friendly.

We stopped in last week before getting on the ferry. We were there at 5:15am! We were still dead to the world. They were kind and friendly. I got a blueberry muffin and a chocolate croissant. They were both amazing! We give it 4 enthusiastic thumbs up! 10/10

My absolute favorite scones. Snickerdoodle is my recommendation, but they’re all good. I’ve had several different pastries and they’re all some of the best. The gentleman filling orders is fun to converse with. The baker is quieter, but has a very pleasant personality. Ask him about his art work. It’s on the wild side, but very well done. Ask her about her band. Prices are very reasonable. I schedule a trip to Hatteras Sands campground every year. Scratchmade is a big reason why.

The baker which I assume is the owner is so great we stopped by just after he opened and got a few things. I love the pull apart bread and my husband got a gluten free chocolate moose. He asked our day ahead and gave some great suggestions for Ocracoke! This is the third time I have been by and next time I'm down here I will desktop by again!

Best pastries (particularly the blueberry scones) EVER.

Every item we ordered we loved. Key lime croissant, monkey bread, hippo bread (just a 1 lb version of the monkey bread), peanut butter chocolate cheesecake, cherry pie cheesecake, stoner cheesecake, butterfly croissant with strawberry icing, cheese danish. The owner was awesome, he had sourdough bread that we tried for free and it was FANTASTIC. Do not sleep on that! We ended up making so many sandwiches with it. Additionally, it was so good that the day we were leaving I ran over there and got monkey bread and sourdough bread. I had to bring some home! The customer service was great, they’ll truly answer any questions you have. Also, the monkey bread is made with croissant dough…in case you’re on the fence that should seal the deal to purchase in my opinion. Also, cheese danish was another one not to sleep on.

Do not miss this stop when you are in the obx. Even if you’re in kitty hawk, make it a day trip to avoid the fomo. Our family loves this spot so much because everything is fresh, soft, buttery and damn delightful. Faves include almond buttercream star cookies, jalapeño cheddar biscuits, thumbprint cookies, any of the pies, anything key lime or lemon, anything with big fat chunks of chocolate and the sandwich cookies. We have tried so many things over the past few years and have NEVER been disappointed. For context, sweets are my jam. I’m a novice baker myself, lived in NYC and DC, traveled many continents (ive gotten a liiiittle picky) and I’m often a victim of the meh pastry. Every time I get something here, I am beyond delighted and impressed. Every. Time. Anyway, we love it. Go there and you will too.

Nothing but good things to say about this place! Monique was so sweet and helpful. We were down from Asheboro and she made us feel so at home. The selection was GREAT and we had to try a little bit of everything! We will most definitely be coming back. The best part is their openness about their love for Christ! ❤️

This is a great little bakery. My son loves the cookie display case. It's right at eye level for a 3 year old and he gets to pick out his own cookie. The owners are very friendly. We love stopping here for a treat!

This place had one of the best Pumpkin Spice Latte I’ve ever had. The only thing I enjoyed more than the coffee and the food was the pleasant, welcoming, and safe atmosphere the owners have created. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Best chocolate chip cookies anywhere and the cheesecake cups are to die for. You can gain 5 pounds just by walking in and breathing in deeply. Monique and Alex are wonderful people and run a fantastic business. It really do care about their customers. On a personal level not just professionally.
