Cocktail bar

Eau De Vie Melbourne is a sophisticated bar known for its extensive whiskey collection, inventive cocktails, and tasting menus. The bar's ambiance attracts a diverse crowd, from white-collar professionals to food enthusiasts. With a visually stunning array of rare spirit bottles and an impressive whisky selection, the bar offers an innovative experience with liquid nitrogen and smoke machines. Eau De Vie stands out in Melbourne's cocktail scene by serving world-class drinks that emphasize fruity flavors using top-quality liqueurs.
Had a great night at this bar! The atmosphere was lively with great music—not too loud, just right for conversations. The staff was friendly and attentive, even on a busy night. Cocktails were creative and well-balanced, though a bit pricey. The highlight was the outdoor seating area, which added a relaxed vibe. Only downside was the wait time for drinks during peak hours, but it was worth it. The crowd was mixed and the overall energy was upbeat. Perfect for a weekend hangout with friends or a casual date night. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Hidden bar without any signs. I love the concept of this bar and the interior. Such unique cocktails and delivers an immersive experience for customers. I love when I can tell a place is passionate about what they do. The blend of ingredients into their cocktails makes you intrigued and curious. Definitely an intimate cozy bar that is perfect for chit chat. This bar is timeless and classic for Melbourne. Highly recommend 💋

Haven't been down to Eau De Vie for awhile. Me and my partner went there on Saturday night (13/09), atmosphere was buzzing with lovely people. Staff are amazing as always, wiped down the tables twice as we sat down. We didn't order food as we had dinner beforehand. We ordered 3 drinks. Don Giovanni - citrus floral champagne style fizz - Delicious!! Tomorrow's Party - Watermelon, lime, banana with henny VS cognac - bit strong but punchy and fruity. Great notes together. Doc Mason's Dragon - Pineapple, lime, Dragon fruit, coconut water with tequila - And what a small performance beforehand. Fire torch dusted with cinnamon (I think) to create a fire breathing dragon) - Would definitely order again! Overall, such a great night, lovely staff, and ambience. Must Try and visit. Many drinks on the menu, you can't go wrong!!

My wife and I had an awesome time. A gentleman with a moustache served us the quintessential package and had excellent presentation skills and later recommended a fantastic Whiskey (it was Scottish aged in smoked barrels I wish I remembered the name..)We’ve visited a few times over the years it a great establishment.

An impressive hidden bar with an overwhelming amount of drinks to choose from. The bartender really knew his stuff inside and out, which turned the evening into a lovely experience. I’d certainly like to return to try the Australian whisky flight. Highly recommend!

Finding the door to Eau de Vie is half the fun — tucked away like Melbourne’s best-kept secret. Once inside, you're transported into a moody, intimate speakeasy full of charm and character. Now let’s talk about the Espresso Zabaione — the true star of the night. It’s rich, velvety, and indulgent with just the right kick. Served with flair, it’s not just a cocktail, it’s dessert, drama, and caffeine all in one glorious glass. An absolute must-order. Whether you're after date night magic or just a top-tier drink with serious style, Eau de Vie delivers — once you find the door, that is. 😉
Kim J — Google review
Kinda shocking considering what you hear about the place. Atmosphere is ok but if you've ever been to a speakeasy themed bar, you've been to this one. Drinks and food are nice I guess, but not worth the prices you're being charged for them. Lots of gimmicks with no follow through. Disappointing. If you even get them that is. Took 30 minutes to get a round. The last one didn't show up at all. Seemed short-staffed, which could have been acceptable if it was communicated at all. Instead serves run around taking more orders and one guy was seemingly left to make every single drink for the entire place by himself. Strange strategy. It's a cocktail bar and it was a struggle getting a drink. Don't waste your time.
Peter B — Google review
Really loved the experience! The place has a cozy vibe and serves amazing drinks with great attention to detail. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming. It’s a little hidden but worth finding for the quality and creativity of the drinks. Would have been perfect if there was a bit more time and some snacks to go with the drinks, but overall it was a wonderful experience that I’d happily recommend. 🥃✨

Bar
Heartbreaker is a vibrant bar with a rock 'n' roll vibe that offers an extensive selection of international beers and whiskeys. The dimly lit space features a glowing neon sign, a working jukebox, and a lively crowd. Despite its neo-rock 'n' roll atmosphere, the bar maintains a grunge aesthetic. In addition to quality beverages such as tap and bottled beer, premixed cocktails, bourbons, whiskys, and mezcals are also available.
Went there for a drag bingo night. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. The show was fun..and it was free 🙂

Heartbreaker will always be my favourite bar best vibes, has a pool table, small dance floor and the best music
Josie S — Google review
Have been before but the last time I went they were very rude at the front for no reason. The way they spoke to us was as if they were trying to setup a good story for their friends; they had a small smerk of their faces. We ended up going to another venue and had a great night.
PlayRetroTech — Google review
The staff were super friendly and welcoming here. Very cool, fun vibe and even at 5.30 it was quite lovely. I could absolutely see this becoming a regular haunt if I lived in Melbourne. They don’t mix any cocktails on site but I had one of their pre made ones and it was good.
Taylou — Google review
First time meeting someone rude in Melbourne. The trans lady in the photo took the wrong pizza order. How can someone mistake sausage for mushroom? After that I was confused where the washroom is, so i tried to ask her for help. She told me to "get out of the bar" because I was standing really close to the bar area. She could have brought me to the toilet. The guy behind her wearing white was really nice tho. He kept asking us how was our night, double checked our pizza orders, and gave us water without prompting. That's customer service. She should learn more from him.
Brutally R — Google review
I went to this bar expecting a fun night with good music and good people. I had two beers, so I wasn’t sober, but I definitely wasn’t drunk. I was dancing, being myself; I’m a queer man, and expression is part of who I am. Then, out of nowhere, a blonde woman from management decided I was “too drunk” and had security remove me. I wasn’t loud, aggressive, or out of control. I was just dancing, enjoying myself, and apparently that was too much for her. It felt humiliating and unfair. This wasn’t about alcohol, it was about judgment and bias. If being openly expressive makes you unwelcome here, that says everything about the kind of place this is.
Antonio C — Google review
Quite possibly the best bartenders in the southern hemisphere. Absolutely great vibes, I’d recommend going at 5 -7 when they have their great happy hour prices and free pool. Have had many a great nights here, everyone is up for a chat and the music is always rocking. Pizza is banging too.
William ( — Google review
If I could leave less than one star I would, it was extremely distasteful for there staff to take one look at us before we sat down and decide to ‘cut us off’ before we order a drink, this one service person in particular was extremely inappropriate and ruined the whole experience. Would not recommend, especially if you’re looking for a nice bar to celebrate

Cocktail bar
The Everleigh, located on Gertrude St in Melbourne, is a sophisticated and intimate bar that embodies the elegance and indulgence of 1920s speakeasies. The venue's old-world decor features chesterfield armchairs and mounted deer heads, creating an atmosphere of understated luxury with marble, leather, and mahogany finishes.
Why can't I rate more than 5? This is my favourite cocktail bar in Melbourne - and I've been to several! The staff was always incredibly kind, the music (seems like they have live Jazz on Sundays) is beautiful, the atmosphere is so elegant and cozy at the same time. Not to mention the cocktails. All were great, and the time I had chatting with other guests over them was incredibly fun. Harry, the bartender, made me a caipirinha better than 99% of the ones I had in Brazil. Harry, Zayn and Imi (hope I'm spelling it right) were the best bar people I met in Melbourne. I simply had the best night ever in the city because of them. That is hospitality! I just bought their cocktail book (A Spot at the Bar) so I can make the Everleigh's cocktails here in Brazil while I cannot be back in Australia. Made me a Bug House, as recommended to me by Imi. Tip: the best seats in the house are those at the bar! Love from Rio 🙂

14/12/24 - 4.5 stars A hidden Prohibition style speakeasy in Fitzroy. Decor and lighting are excellent with classy and knowledgeable staff to match. Can get a little noisy when busy but otherwise quite nice music and vibes. The bartenders choice is definitely my recommendation as they delivered for everyone in our group each time. They catered for all our tastes, but, it is a bit expensive at $28 per cocktail.
Roland Z — Google review
Atmosphere 8.5/10 Very stylish and classy cocktail bar with live Jazz music. Nice bar area and cool back bar Drinks 6/10 Recommendation: - Menu is very limited, but has bartender’s choice. My bartenders choice did not turn out well though. The other cocktail Bebbo was also just ok. No coasters, no special presentation Service 6.5/10 Water served immediately. Prices are about average for melbourne
Anton S — Google review
Gorgeous furnishings, impeccable styling and service. We felt at home even though our guest had never been somewhere so ‘swanky’ she enjoyed the wonderful service and felt at home. The music was perfect, the staff looked amazing and you really felt like you’d stepped back in time. The bartenders choice cocktails were all perfectly matched to our tastes. Will be back again!
Xzavia C — Google review
Drinks also were 5 stars! Crafted exceptionally well. These team members made it a special experience for us and were extremely attentive. It’s been an age since we visited this establishment and so glad we did on a Friday evening. Here’s to the next time - ideally for negronis and paninis….!
Aiden F — Google review
Everleigh is simply amazing. The staff is very kind. We went there to celebrate my husband’s first birthday post our wedding and we both loved every bit of this place starting from ambience, music, Cocktails and hospitality. Definitely recommending it to others.
Ira M — Google review
Hands down one of the best and classiest bars I have been to in Melbourne, albeit a bit expensive. You really get what you are paying for though. Everything sets this place apart, from the prohibition decade decor to the tailored drinks. Their ice is even impressive; made by them, crystal clear and in the form of blocks. The service is also super friendly, from the minute you enter. They make an effort to show you that they care about their customers.
Bahjat A — Google review
Words can't say how much fun I have each time I go here! Simply amazing and classy bar. A must if you are visiting and of course living in Melbourne. Plus Belles chicken is next door. Joy! Get there!

Cocktail bar
Above Board is a renowned cocktail bar located in Smith St, Collingwood. The small and intimate 16-seat bar is known for its meticulously considered details and award-winning drinks. Visionary owner-operator Hayden Lambert and his team serve refined classics as well as unique creations in a hushed room dominated by a dark, glossy wooden bar. Accessible through the Beermash hotspot, the hard-to-find entrance adds to the exclusivity of this hidden gem.
I visited this bar around 7 PM and was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait for a table. The staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and easy to chat with, which immediately made the atmosphere feel welcoming. The overall interior design is simple yet stylish — modern without feeling cold. I tried three of their sweeter cocktails, and all of them were absolutely delicious! It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again. Highly recommend for a relaxed night out with great vibes and great drinks.
Kitty W — Google review
If this bar is ranked the best in the world, I honestly can’t understand why. The atmosphere was far from ideal—super loud music (and not the good kind), completely ruining what should have been a relaxed, light wine bar vibe. The pricing made no sense either—every cocktail was $24, regardless of what you ordered. And for that price, I expected something exceptional, but the cocktails were just average at best. The service? Absolutely terrible. One of the bartenders, the male bartender seemed like he wanted to joke around, but when it came to actually serving me, he blatantly ignored me. He refilled water for everyone except me, and when I politely asked for some, he loudly refused, making the whole situation incredibly embarrassing. I had to ask a female bartender instead, and even then, she only refilled my glass once. Considering I had four different cocktails, I was barely given any water—unless I basically begged for it. Definitely not an experience that justifies the hype.

We had such a great experience here! The wine was absolutely amazing – you can really tell they care about quality. The staff were super friendly and took the time to chat with us for a while. They even gave us some great recommendations, and every bottle they shared was spot on. It was such a pleasure talking with them – it really made our visit special. Highly recommend!

Such a cool hidden bar in Collingwood! You enter through Beermash and head upstairs to the first floor, suddenly you’re in what feels like a secret, ultra-exclusive bar. The atmosphere is calm, intimate, and beautifully minimal. Perfect for a date night or a quiet catch-up with close friends 🍸 We were lucky to snag the last two seats (there are only about 12 in total), so it definitely pays to arrive early. The staff were attentive and interested in what we liked. They crafted custom drinks based on our preferences (off-menu, so I don’t remember the name), and they were so good we ended up ordering a second round. Loved the little detail of the “Above Board” logo stamped into the ice cube too. Only wish they served snacks, we were craving a little something while sipping on those killer cocktails. Still, an unforgettable experience and definitely worth checking out.
CC — Google review
I’ve been to Above Board twice already and tried 8 different cocktails – every single one was outstanding! 🍸 The drinks are creative, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is intimate and private, hidden upstairs with dim lighting that still feels safe and cozy. Perfect for one person to relax or for a couple to enjoy together. Some of my highlights: • A-Ha Highball – refreshing and smooth • Very Frisky – rich and complex • Topolino – a beautiful balance with peach and orange bitters • Promiscuous Punch – tangy, fruity, and so fun • H.S.L. Special, Brightside, Erin’s Delight – all expertly crafted and unique The bartenders (especially the New Zealander) are professional, friendly, and make the experience even more enjoyable. This is hands down my favorite bar in Melbourne, and definitely the one I’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommend picking the hidden menu options – they’re all gems. ✨
Evelyn — Google review
One of the best bars in Melbourne, Australia and beyond! Thanks to Hayden, this bar has character and the drinks are almost as good as the service. Clear 5 stars. Just go through the beer place and up the stairs!
Ricardo S — Google review
A friend introduced us to Above Board. We had a little trouble finding it (speakeasy ✅) but the beer guys downstairs came out and led us through their venue (“It’s alright. It happens all the time.”) We got lucky and there was no wait. The bartender wasted no time making us feel at home - even though we were from the wrong side of the ditch. The space is intimate with only counter seating and the cocktails were some of the best I’ve ever had. It feels like I’m not doing my job right recommending everything I tasted but here goes: Japanese Slipper - melon sour yumness; highball - a boring failsafe pick but turned out to be a highlight; back burber - don’t let looks deceive you… this isn’t an espresso martini - layers of delicious flavours I didn’t even know you could create in a drink.
Mike K — Google review
This award-winning cocktail bar is tucked inside another bar, and finding it was half the fun 😌 We dropped by on a Friday evening and just managed to snag the last cozy sofa seats😉 What we ordered: ✨H.S.L. Special (AUD 24) ✨Japanese Slipper (AUD 24) ✨The benefactor (AUD 24) ✨Passionfruit (AUD 24) The cocktail menu leans fruity, which suits my taste perfectly! Each drink was refreshing, but the H.S.L. Special stole the show for me. It had a complex, well-balanced flavour with just the right kick of alcohol😍 This place is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're into creative cocktails and chill vibes. Recommend making a reservation ahead of time to skip the wait 😉

Byrdi is a remarkable cocktail bar in Melbourne that prides itself on its commitment to using seasonal and local ingredients, resulting in a constantly fresh and evolving menu. The bar's dedication to native botanicals and sustainable materials is evident in every aspect of its design, from the bluestone and coconut husk flooring to the inventive drinks they serve. Byrdi's cocktails are truly innovative, incorporating unexpected ingredients like fermented honeycomb and mushrooms.
Great experience at Byrdi! Cocktails were all so different and unique, amazing staff that were all very knowledgeable. The prawn toast was delicious! In hindsight I wish we had booked for the multiple set course option, but the bar option was still great being able to sit while the bartender talked through the different drinks! Will be trying the set menu option next time I’m in town!

so, we stumbled into this place like we were escaping a rogue tram, and let me tell ya, it was like falling down a rabbit hole into a cocktail wonderland. Forget your standard "vodka soda," these guys are crafting liquid stories. Every drink had a backstory, a weird and wonderful tale that made you feel like you were sipping on a historical document, but, you know, a delicious one. I'm pretty sure one of them involved a lost pirate treasure and a fermented pineapple. We had a couple of these concoctions, each one more unique than the last, and then had to bolt, because, well, life. But seriously, the amount of thought and effort they put into these drinks? It's like they're running a cocktail laboratory

LOVE this place! From their interior, welcoming staffs, lighting, prep area, to their menu, everything was meticulous. I've walked pass them so many times and I'm glad I finally walked in to try their drinks. Their concept is local ingredients. Each of the drinks they make are very interestingly designed. One that I ordered focused on honey. The drink came with a bee pollen ice cream that tasted like golden gaytime. Very well made. I also tried another one that had yogurt snow which was made with liquid nitrogen. To me this place's cocktails are quite playful. The staffs were so nice. That's an extra point.

Visited in Oct 2025 A visit to Byrdi had long been on my list given its reputation and rankings in the World’s top bars list for the last few years. Finally made it here during my recent trip to MEL. My friends and I did not have a reservation but were able to get a table in 5 mins. Upon arriving, we were given a small shot of a complementary drink which I thought was a very nice gesture. We ended up trying 6 cocktails, 3 from their seasonal menu and 3 from their seasoned (all time hits) menu. My favs among the 6 were the Halftime Oranges from the seasonal menu and the Vinegar Stroke from the seasoned menu. However I felt that the overall experience was a bit underwhelming for me personally given the cocktail experiences I’ve had in other World & Asia Top 100 bars. Service was good. No issues on that front at all. Overall, I think this is a very decent bar, and definitely one of the best in Australia. But I am not sure if it’s a World Top 100 bar.

Cocktails that come with their own stories! I love the vibe there. The cocktails were very detailed, and I could smell many different things in them. I also think everyone would get the ants on melon as a compliment :) That’s cute! 🐜🍈 (We got 3 cocktails, oysters with chicken oil and the melon.)

A very good looking venue with an amazing concept, and very welcoming staff!! The Atmosphere took a little hit because of the awkward location of this venue. Being at one of the entrances for Melbourne Central there were a couple of weird people that walked past the venue while we had our drinks and that's not the best when you're trying to have a chill night. The drinks actually tasted really good, the only downsides were that they cost $30 each and were very small portions, I understand it is all eco-friendly and zero waste but personally it was just too expensive for me. On the money topic, my partner and I ordered their side of chips that cost $12 and it was a bowl of packaged chips, a little underwhelming for the venue we were at. It's a nice venue to have a drink or maybe two on a night out!!

Visited as the bar was part of the worlds top 50 bars at #35. The drinks were very creative. We ordered the golden day and campfire. Golden day was sweet and sour while campfire was like a hot chocolate.

What a special place. The drinks are incredibly creative and well-crafted, with locally sourced ingredients and unexpected flavor combinations. We came back multiple times during our visit to Melbourne and thoroughly enjoyed every cocktail on the Summer 2025 menu. The seasonal menu changes 4 times per year. Big thanks to Luke, Sam, and the BYRDI team for looking after us, we had the best time. P.S. Try the smashed pavlova, it's out of this world.

Caretaker's Cottage is a charming and intimate bar located in an old caretaker's cottage behind Wesley Church. The venue has been recognized as one of the Best Bars in the World, offering a cozy and unique atmosphere for visitors. The design features brown-leather banquettes, cafeteria-style chairs, and '70s sunshine tones, creating a playful yet not overdone ambiance. While seating is limited, it adds to the quaintness of the place.
Where do I start??? This is probably going to sound like a fake paid AI review… but this is me speaking (drunk) from my heart. Chantal and Izzy were the first people I met from here. 20/10 vibes. The boys here that I met over the FOUR DAYS OF REPEATEDLY COMING HERE BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST BAR IN MELBOURNE are also all cool. But Chantal is the greatest. The music is always different and banging. Even when they are busy they will find a way to make your visit happen. Their momento cocktail is probably the best from the menu. But I am a fernet lover and once they told me they had a secret bottle of fernet in the freezer, I was hooked. They don’t have coke. They have Fever tree cola. Probably better. If I come back to Melbourne from the USA, this bar will be a huge reason why. 3 minutes from my Marriott hotel. Immaculate vibes. Usually when I leave the bar, some random dude I never met says “bye Kenny” (how do you know my name????) It’s the little things. Chantal is the best but everyone else is right there too lol (maybe I fell in love IDK). Be nice to the people here and they will be nice back. This is one of my favorite bars in almost 40 countries I have been to. CC: I LOVE YOU M8S

A unique and casual bar fitted in a heritage listed bluestone cottage in the heart on Melbourne CBD! Staff are professional yet friendly. The drink menu rotates monthly and offers a range of cocktails from modern blends to classics with a slight twist. The vibe is very casual and there are seats both inside the cottage as well as some tables outside in the common area. It's rare to have a bar of this calibre in a convenient location and is for walk in customer only. Highly recommend 👍👍🍸🍹

Cannot recommend enough. Best bar I've been to in Melbourne by miles. We went once and were back 4pm on the dot the next day. Staff are lovely, drinks are amazing, the vibe is brillant. Inside seating is limited, but worth being there at open for.

I think this was the best service I’ve ever had. From the very beginning my partner and I felt like we were being welcomed into someone’s home. The staff were so attentive, genuinely invested in your experience and so kind. They even brought out a couple of champagnes on the house for my boyfriend’s birthday. Everything was so intentional and top end — 10/10 loved.

Caretaker’s Cottage feels secret even when it’s packed. Hidden near Parliament, the small bar hums with quiet confidence. You walk in, the light’s low, the room smells of good spirits and wood smoke. The drinks are thoughtful, not fussy. Every cocktail tastes deliberate. The menu changes, but the execution stays sharp. The staff know their craft. They talk when needed, then step back and let the drink speak. There’s no noise, no attitude, just precision. The whisky list runs deep, and the sound of vinyl sets the pace for the night. Caretaker’s Cottage is one of Melbourne’s few bars that gets everything right. Simple space, great drinks, calm energy. You leave feeling like someone actually cared about what you drank.

Visited in Nov 2025 A visit to Caretaker’s Cottage has been on my list for a long time and it finally happened during my recent trip to MEL. Caretaker’s Cottage has been on the world’s best bars list for the last few years and hence I went in with a certain level of expectation and wasn’t disappointed. It very much lived up to its hype. The cocktail menu here changes every month - therefore I got to try the Nov 2025 menu which had 8 cocktails on the list. My friends and I tried every single one of them. I must say that almost every drink was a banger. Our favs were the Bitter Mai Tai, the Nightbird and the Miami Vice Milk Punch. It’s a testament to the mixologist team that they are churning out a new menu every month with such good cocktails. Overall, this was a great experience. So if you wanna have some amazing cocktails in a nice setting in MEL, it is a no brainer to visit Caretaker’s Cottage. In my view, its place in the world bar rankings is well earned and justified.

This cosy and vibey bar near the CBD area is a true gem! It’s a hidden gem within Wesley’s place, offering top-notch staff service and cocktails. We had a great time with four drinks and were thoroughly impressed by the seasonal menu. Bitter Mai Tai and Spiders from Mars are my top 2 favourites

Beneath Driver Lane is a hidden gem located off Little Bourke Street in Melbourne. This underground hangout offers a cozy and rustic atmosphere with beautifully crafted booths, candlelight, and old-school photographs adorning the walls. It's the perfect spot for unwinding with delicious cocktails, live music on weekends, and a selection of wines and beers. The bar also offers custom-made martinis served in chilled wine glasses prepared with liquid nitrogen.
One of my favourite bars in all of Melbourne. Fantastic atmosphere for so many different occasions. Great for a group event to celebrate something, an intimate but groovy first date with awesome cocktails or even solo if you want to hit up the bar and also listen to some great live blues/jazz tunes. Staff are wonderful and very friendly and clearly enjoy working for the business. Personally, I love their selection of Old Fashioned cocktails 🥃

Hidden Gem with Serious Vibes Beneath Driver Lane feels like stepping into a secret world—watch out for that Harry Potter-style automatic door at the entrance. Inside, it’s all moody lighting, old candle wax, and vintage charm that makes the place feel timeless. The bar? Loaded with drink options, especially for whisky lovers. Great for a late-night drink with serious atmosphere. Not your average bar—this one’s got soul.

Popped in for a drink after a day of walking the city. Sensational. Amazing atmosphere and the staff are very professional and welcoming. Think dimly lit, calming, casual but classy, boozy bluesy bar. Cosy booths are available as are smaller tables and chairs for seating. Tasteful easy listening music playing in the background. We didn't order food but I could see tables around us were served very quickly. We'll definitely be back when in Melbourne next.

This is seriously cool. The bar's eclectic look is a visual feast. Unfortunately they were understaffed and ran out of items to make a number of the cocktails on their really good list so we did not stay to enjoy a few. This was quite early in the night, so a bit disappointing. Will try to come back next time in Melbourne because truly it is brilliant looking! You have to give sexy things another chance! 👌😁

Fantastic venue, amazing cocktails and super friendly staff. It was super busy when we arrived, so we hung out upstairs and had a drink at the adjacent bar. The doorman was really friendly and helpful. The music is so good. We will definitely be back.

If you are keen on “blues” and the associated vibe, this is a must visit venue. An underground bar full of character. Busy, but that shows it s a well frequented venue. Expect a long queue at the bar. I would suggest that one of the bartenders should be designated to quick service. (Beers and wine). Waiting behind people ordering cocktails, etc, takes forever, especially when they are ordering 5 at a time. One of the male bartenders was evidently “drunk” drinking leftovers from every cocktail he made 🤪 But overall, a fun night out, discovering the secret bars of Melbourne.

Beneath Driver Lane – A Moody, Magical Cocktail Experience What a cool and atmospheric bar. Beneath Driver Lane is tucked underground in the CBD, and the moment you walk in, you know you’re in for something special. Interior & Entry: Entry is via a large, sensor-activated door that feels like the gateway to a secret. Once inside, you descend the stairs into a moody, dimly lit basement bar with stone walls, candle-like lighting, and a layout that balances intimacy with buzz. Seating includes high tables and bar stools that feel both casual and sophisticated. Drinks & Service: The bartenders here are true mixologists, crafting cocktails with finesse and flair. Every drink we ordered was visually stunning and perfectly balanced—we tried quite a few different cocktails and honestly could’ve kept going all night. Each one felt like a mini work of art, and watching them being made was half the fun. Food: We started to get a little peckish and ordered: Reuben Grilled Sandwich: Delicious and comforting—crispy bread, tender meat, just the right amount of melt and tang. Fries with Aioli: Hot, crispy, and addictive—perfect bar food to go with the cocktails. Toilets & Safety: The restrooms were clean and well-maintained. I also really appreciated the thoughtful “mint signal” safety initiative—if you're ever feeling unsafe, you can discreetly hand a mint to the bartender for help. It’s comforting to know places like this are thinking about their guests' safety. Atmosphere: The blues music playing in the background gave the space so much soul. It was the right volume—present but not overpowering—and created an ambiance that felt both lively and laid-back. The temperature inside was comfortable throughout the evening. Location & Access: It’s best to park nearby and walk, as it's in a busy central area with limited immediate parking. That said, the stroll is worth it—the bar feels like a little escape from the world above. Overall: A solid 10/10 experience. I’ve already flagged it as a place to return to soon. Whether you're a cocktail connoisseur or just looking for a unique night out, Beneath Driver Lane delivers style, substance, and soul in spades.

Union Electric Bar & Rooftop is a stylish establishment with exposed brick walls and a rooftop garden, offering a wide variety of cocktails. The bar prides itself on using fresh produce daily to create unique drinks, including cheeky tiki cocktails and refreshing highballs. In addition to its impressive drink selection, the Melbourne bar also serves pan-Asian food, making it an ideal choice for health-conscious patrons.
If you're after a good time in Melbourne, Union Electric is where it's at. The midday tunes? Absolutely spot on – they’ve got a vibe that’ll make your lunch break feel like a mini holiday. It’s a proper treat, and you'll be tapping your foot in no time. But let’s talk about the real gem here: the cocktails. Honestly, they're hands down some of the best in Melbourne. Whether you're after something fruity, strong, or a little bit of both, they've got it nailed. The bar itself? Super welcoming. It feels like a place you could easily lose a few hours in without a second thought. Now, a cheeky little shout-out to all the ladies: if you’ve ever found yourself caught off guard (we all know the one), they’ve got your back. Seriously, it’s the little things like this that make Union Electric stand out. It's all part of the experience, and it's done with the perfect blend of tact and fun. So, if you're in the area and want top-tier cocktails in a laid-back, inviting space, you know where to go. Cheers, Union Electric – you’ve nailed it.

Union Electric Bar & Rooftop – Melbourne (Chinatown area) A super cool bar with exposed brick walls and a rooftop garden decorated with fairy lights – perfect for chilling out with friends. 🍸 The cocktails here are amazing. My favorite was the Coconut Cocktail (the first white one I tried) – smooth, aromatic, and really refreshing. 🥂 The other three cocktails we ordered were also excellent, with a nice balance of sweet and sour flavors. Overall, a stylish spot with great vibes and fantastic drinks. Definitely a place I’d come back to!

Tucked away in a cozy laneway, Union Electric is such a gem in Melbourne! The rooftop bar has a super chill vibe with string lights, colorful tropical decor, and a casual open-air setup — perfect for warm nights and good conversations. We ordered a bottle of Jublé Prosecco to start, which was crisp, vibrant, and very easy to enjoy. Their tiki-style cocktails were fun, refreshing, and beautifully presented — love the attention to detail with the paper umbrellas and fresh garnishes! Service was friendly and laid-back, and the overall atmosphere made us feel right at home. Whether you’re after great cocktails, a lively rooftop setting, or just somewhere to hang with friends, this place is well worth a visit. Would definitely come back for the drinks and the vibes. 🍸✨

As I wandered back to my hotel after a yummy meal, I was lured by the siren call of late 90s hip-hop down the laneway. The source? This absolute gem of a rooftop bar, where the service was only outmatched by the delightful and delicious cocktail I was served. As a silly American bumbling their way through Melbourne, this little oasis was the perfect Thursday night retreat after a long, long day of work events. Whether it was the soothing sounds of Del the Funky Homosapien, the kind service, or the perfectly balanced drink, the whole experience was so lovely I’ve now written my first-ever Google review. Thank you for a lovely last sojourn in Melbourne, Union Electric. Well done. (Bonus points for Queen Latifah, in full effect.) Chef’s kiss!

Love the atmosphere here, especially as the sun went down and the lights became more pronounced. Cocktails were all well-balanced, kinda fruity and all very pretty. Truffle toasted sandwiches were awesome!

I had mixed experiences here. On my first visit i really liked it. Not too crowded, music not too loud, great service. My second visit was a different story, music too loud, water dripping onto the seats from the sprayers and slow service. However, happy hour has great drink specials with $10 Aperol Spritz and $12 gin and tonic.

We were here for cocktails only, and ordered boulevadier and one of their signature cocktails (can't remember the name). Boulevadier comes with a punch as expected and was great, whereas the other cocktail was nice and refreshing. The ambiance and setting was great, very cozy feeling. Service was good too. Only recommendation is to have wider range of own signature cocktails.

Cocktail bar
Gin Palace is a legendary Melbourne laneway bar that has been serving classic cocktails and late-night martinis since 1997. The quirky basement lounge features eclectic old-world decor and stays open until 3am, making it a popular spot for post-shift workers and night owls. Known for its generous martini pours, bohemian swagger, and mastery of all things gin, Gin Palace has become an institution in the city's bar scene.
A really nice and cosy atmosphere in this bar will multiple seating options. It’s dark lit and moody with a big selection of cocktails and spirits. The drinks we had were strong but smooth. We went on a Friday night so they were a bit busy, so might be worth booking a table if possible, but we did get a walk in table around 6pm.

After a delightful dinner, my friends and I were in search of a cozy spot to unwind with some cocktails. We stumbled upon Gin Palace, tucked away in a Melbourne laneway, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. Upon entering, we were immediately enveloped by the bar's opulent ambiance—plush velvet seating, dim lighting, and an old-world charm that exudes sophistication. The extensive gin selection is impressive, boasting over 200 varieties from around the world. The cocktail menu is equally enticing, featuring expertly crafted drinks that cater to all palates.
Amilliah — Google review
This has became one of my favourite cocktail-bars in Melbourne. In line with its name, the bar specialised with gin, we were four and ordered different drinks, and all turned out so good. It’s speakeasy bar which made us enjoyed the drink even better. Good service by the staff.
Mareska R — Google review
I don’t know what has happened to the gin palace, but last night’s experience with my partner was dreadful. I’ve been bringing friends and colleagues to this bar, on and off for 16 years. However, we won’t be returning anytime soon. We asked for some cocktail recommendations based on our tastes, because the menu is always evolving and changing and the drinks we received were nothing like what we described we were after. When we were placing our first order, as soon as I said the two drinks we would like, the waiter bolted, even though I had continued speaking because we wanted to order some food and other drinks as well. I was literally in the middle of a sentence and he walked off. It was bizarre to say the very least. I’ve never had a waiter walk off in the middle of placing an order. The strawberry cheesecake martini’s are terrible and not at all as described regarding flavour and palette. The atmosphere was really off as well and the random 80s pop that was playing throughout the venue only added to the absurdity of the whole experience. Safe to say, we left as soon as we finished our first round and my partner and I have not felt well since having those terrible drinks either. I wouldn’t recommend anyone that has fond memories of the gin palace to go back. I felt really let down by the whole experience.
Alisen — Google review
Whenever my wife and I have been to Gin palace we have been treated excellently by the staff! Tonight the lovely Izzy helped us extensively with our cocktail selections, also being wonderful with conversation and generally hosting beautifully. They even made a fantastic Trinidad Sour, one of the finest I've experienced. The atmosphere is low light and sensual, with comfortable couches, perfect for a date night! I'd highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a fine time out.

Amazing selection of cocktails and even Mocktails that not only look divine but taste delicious.
Khurram A — Google review
You would think a ‘gin palace’ would know how to serve gin correctly. Unfortunately this bar does not specialise in gin, only fancy cocktails that detracts away from the art of gin, and their unique flavours. If you’re going to call yourself a gin palace, at least serve it properly, at bare minimum. 50mls gin, 200 mls tonic in a chilled balloon glass with a long stem; as any gin lover would know. The menu was very disappointing, didn’t showcase their long list of gins that you have to go to the bar to check out.

Favourite was Hayman's sloe. Patient wolf pink lake and Hendricks was great too. The care the bartenders took to make the garnishes was exemplary of their skills. Watched them roll a cucumber with a rose bud attached. Great strong cocktails with an awesome dark atmosphere that's a lot less loud than other places. Service was excellent as well being prompt, friendly and accommodating. Had to wait for only about ten minutes by the bar before they made a space for two of us . Update Pink lady was a little on the sweet side and smaller glass.

Bar Liberty is a trendy spot that offers an extensive selection of top-notch alcoholic beverages, including wine, cider, cocktails, whisky, vermouth, and housemade soda. The menu is carefully curated to ensure high quality and variety. The food menu features small plates curated by the head chef and executive chef, such as king prawns in miso sauce and snapper fillet with kefir cultured cream.
A thoroughly impressive dinner menu and cocktail/wine range. Bar Liberty is a great venue if you’re looking to have an intimate dinner and drinks. I was really impressed by the quality of the food and flavour profiles of each of the dishes. The wholemeal sourdough was light and fluffy, the coral trout was had a great freshness and acidity to it that you look for in a seafood cerviche, the potato dumplings had such an interesting (good) texture with nice subtle flavours from the cheddar and sauces, the meat dish was seasoned very well and cooked to a perfect medium rare and the polpete has such a rich, juicy flavour profile. This was one of the best wine bar experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. The cocktails were very nice, and included some modern/novel takes on traditional cocktails and the staff were excellent. They were never too far away and took pride in the business’ work. The venue itself was nice and intimate and definitely one to think of if you’re looking to have a solid catch up with friends or family.

This little place serves an amazing food and the list of the wines is pretty great too. We went there on Saturday night and we shared few little things and 2 main in 4 people and it was more than enough. The service was very pleasant, our waitress recommended few things and give us amazing suggestions.

They change their menu weekly, so it’s unique every time you go, which makes it really fun to come back and try new dishes. The set menu is around $65pp, and we added the lamb side and some cocktails, which came to about $80–100pp. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The entrées were definitely a highlight, and the flatbread with cheese and kumquats was incredible, perfectly balanced and flatbread served warm, yum! The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, and their staffs are lovely and attentive. Overall, a great dining experience that never feels repetitive.

outstanding food, really! i enjoyed the martini to start, followed by the bread + pate, the zucchini, and the pork with mustard sauce. really really impressive. the bread was to die for, so good that no words could be spoken after i had finished it all up. i needed a moment to collect myself. the pork was wonderful, warm, smokey, tender. the mustard sauce was powerful - star of the dish - but not overpowering. it was smooth and sexy. the highlight of my meal, actually, was the zucchini. it was served with honey and some sort of grain. really it was just so fresh, and cut through the heavier pork dish. i’m so glad i got it. wished i had space for dessert but i didn’t! will be back for it next time :)

I will be recommending this place to everyone I know. The food was seriously exciting. Everything was so well balanced and plated beautifully. 10/10. So simple but so much depth. How does one make flat bread taste so good. Ps. The potato dumplings changed my life.

Siglo is a sophisticated rooftop terrace bar offering stunning views of Parliament House and an unmistakably European atmosphere. Despite the bustling crowds, once you secure a seat, there's a sense of calm and elegance. The bar provides table service with a selection of cocktails, whisky, wine, and gourmet snacks. Accessible through an unmarked door to the Supper Club, Siglo's checker-board terrace features white linen tables, candlelight, and attentive staff serving rare Champagne and Cuban cigars.
We stopped in for a brief yet delightful visit before dinner with a local friend, treating ourselves to a few glasses of bubbly from the extensive menu of choices. The ambience of the bar was undeniably captivating, drawing us in with its inviting atmosphere. Situated above a fantastic Greek restaurant, the entire experience was nothing short of remarkable. A group of women were smoking cigars. Please enjoy the attached photos that capture the essence of our lovely evening.

As a Cigar person, I'm always on the look for cigar lounges when I travel. This location was recommended by a friend. Located on top floor with amazing view of the parliament historic building. Limited cigar menu, but good quantity. There s extensive drink options and small bites. Little pricey though, which I was fine because of the exchange 💱 differerence with USD. Plan ahead, there s a waiting to be seated 20 minutes minimum.

Siglo boasts a fantastic location with a brilliant balcony overlooking Spring Street, offering one of the best views in the city. The atmosphere is sophisticated and the setting is perfect for an evening drink. However, the experience is let down by a few significant factors. The food menu is highly disappointing and remarkably limited. For a venue with such an extensive beverage list, it's a shame the culinary options don't cater to a wider range of tastes. While the cocktails are well-made, they are very expensive. Patrons should also be aware of the strict entry policy, which appears to be in place to manage crowding. While the aroma of cigars adds to the classic ambiance, the overall experience would be vastly improved if the food offerings were given serious attention. Come for the view and a drink, but perhaps plan to dine elsewhere.

Visited Siglo on Saturday 11th October for a couple of drinks and a cigar. The staff were great, the drinks were on point, the atmosphere was great…until a group of 25 tried to commandeer the front seating areas for their impromptu post-wedding after party. To say they were unpleasant would be polite; unfortunately, the best man had failed to secure a venue for the bridal party to enjoy post-nuptial celebrations. When more and more of their party began to crowd around our table and take over the space, the staff very politely advised them that they couldn’t handle such a large group without prior booking. Rather than take it on the chin, the ring-leaders of the group tried to shame and cajole the poor wait staff, even threatening to write a 1star review if they didn’t acquiesce to their demands! I hope the management of Siglo take the time to review the security footage from that afternoon; they will see their employees handling a difficult and demanding group without prior booking with upmost diplomacy. Special mention to the waiter with the funny tie who bore the brunt of the (not so) best man (Josh?) - I think the waiter’s name was Conrad. Good on ya mate.

**The Top Floor Experience (Because Apparently There Are Other Floors)** Arrived at 5:00:00 PM like a savage, desperate for a table. Despite being literally the first wave of humans through the door, securing a decent seat felt like trying to get Taylor Swift tickets. Spoiler: the stairmaster training paid off. Five. Flights. Of. Stairs. By floor three, I questioned every life choice. By floor four, I was having an out-of-body experience. By floor five, I emerged like a sweaty phoenix into... *Parliament House views*. Suddenly, the cardio made sense. **The Vibe:** Think "Mediterranean retirement home meets Bondi startup incubator." On one side: magnificently bronzed Italian gentlemen who've been smoking cigars since before I was born. On the other: twenty-somethings in vintage tees having their first existential crisis over secondhand smoke. It's like watching two different species cautiously share a watering hole. **The Menu Situation:** "Can I get food up here?" "No, but here's a $12 bag of Smith's served on our finest disposable dishware." The juxtaposition of expensive cigars and plastic platter crisps is *chef's kiss* confusing. Like wearing a tuxedo with Crocs. **Bottom Line:** Come for the cigars, stay for the people-watching, accept that your dinner will be salt & vinegar chips presented like they're foie gras. The restaurant downstairs probably serves actual food, but who has time for stairs after that initial climb? 10/10 would wheeze up those stairs again. 🚬

To the siglo owner, I am writing to make a formal complaint about the way I was treated during my recent visit to Siglo. I have always considered Siglo one of my favourite places — I’ve been here more than ten times and never once was front door security asked for my physical ID. On this occasion, I forgot to bring it, but I had a copy on my phone which I offered to show. Despite this, I was denied entry. I accept that rules are rules, but the enforcement has been inconsistent compared to my previous visits. What is truly unacceptable, however, is the behaviour of your staff member (who claimed to be the manager). (female appearance but with a male voice) Instead of addressing the situation professionally, this person mocked me, pulled faces, and even called me “stupid.” The individual presented in a female appearance but spoke with a male voice, and their conduct was completely unprofessional. I fully understand that security has every right to check IDs — that is not the issue. The issue is the manner in which I, as a loyal customer, was treated. Being insulted, disrespected, and humiliated at the door is not what anyone should ever experience at Siglo. This is not service, it is outright disrespect. I strongly urge you to review this staff member’s behaviour, as it damages Siglo’s reputation and leaves regular customers like myself unwilling to return. I am expecting this complaint to be taken seriously and an appropriate action to be made. I hate giving bad reviews and but this place is simply shocking….

Went there last Thursday with my son, to enjoy a cigar and single malt, as he turned 21 that week. I'm not a local, so didn't know about this jem. The staff were fantastic, no pressure, the waiter suggested a cigar to try, paired with a couple of single malts. Left the lighter at the table for us, to relight as we went. A great place to spend time with your nearest and dearest. Couldn't fault the experience, atmosphere and service.

Sophisticated. Simple and elegant. We stopped by with friends for a late night cap and were in for a treat. Champagne and cocktail list and a cigar menu. Wait staff knowledge, friendly and inclusive. Highly enjoyable vibe. Perfect end to an evening with a gorgeous view and heaters to ease the chill if needed.

Nick and Nora's is an elegant, vintage-inspired bar that offers a sophisticated experience with its cocktails, champagne, raw bar offerings, and elevated small plates. The ambiance is reminiscent of the 1930s, with an art deco design that transports visitors to a bygone era. The cocktail menu is diverse and creatively organized by themes or mysterious characters for a unique drinking experience.
From the moment you walk in to this beautiful bar, you know you are somewhere special. The staff were very welcoming and kindly showed us to our seats, we were sat outside during winter, and while the outdoor area has heaters, I am still glad we had on thicker jackets. It was by no means uncomfortable though. Walking through the indoor space to get to the outdoor area you could feel the attention to detail in the setting, creating a great atmosphere. Not quite a quiet cozy bar, it was full of life, but not in a bad or annoying way. Stepping outside the area is much smaller, but noticeably quieter (perhaps just due to it being winter). Our server was incredibly friendly and explained the general idea behind the menu, which was, very diverse and interesting! Which brings me to the drinks… just wow! Not only visually impressive, which is never a sure sign that a drink will actually taste good, but when it does taste good it’s all the more better for it, these were, just fantastic! Both my partner and I had a couple of drink picks each, and they were all amazing. I can’t single any of them out. Will definitely be back here and it’s on the list of my favourites in Melbourne. Highly recommend for a date or a small group of friends!

Two ladies went for cocktails and nibbles. Sat at the bar which we loved. Tried 3 different cocktails each and finished with a Pinot Noir/bubbles. We tried 5 different starters. The duck liver parfait was sublime. We also ordered the cheese and meat charcuterie board (5 choices for $71) was amazing value and again sublime! Service was friendly. Our total bill was approx $290 which we thought was excellent for what we had.

I love my this bar. Recently went with a special guest as a first time experience and I was a little disappointed. The quality of service and management have been Friday nights before and staff bought all the stops but this time it was okay. The atmosphere was better than the service and drinks.

Cute cocktail bar to venture to in the city. Staff were really helpful with the extensive cocktail menu. Food was delightful. Our visit was a rainy Sunday evening, no reservation required. But I imagine Friday’s and Saturday’s might be worth booking.

Good cocktails (loved their bubble signature cocktail, and the classic french75 just delicious!) Came here on weekend so it was packed and not speakeasy, noisy. Good service.

I had many great meetings and hangouts with my business clients or friends at Nick and Nora's. I am being honest here, the range of drinks here is great and the environment has a 1980s Downtown New York vibes. HOWEVER, this will the last time I will visit Nick and Nora's because we were lied to by the male waiter yesterday. My friends and I were asking for tap water and the waiter said sparkling water is free, hence we opted for a bottle of sparkling water, not knowing the bar has secretly charged us for it! This is ridiculous because we were not informed with the price and the manager did nothing to it. Absolute piece of scam and a joke. It used to be the best bar in Melbourne and it is sad to see how the great has fallen to such a low standard of service. I have already reported this incident to Consumer Affairs Victoria because this is absolutely disgusting!

Jane our hostess was super helpful and was great at helping us choose where to start in a huge list of cocktails. I did however find reading the menu on their website pdf easier to read than the printed folder. Lovely experience, and perfectly made drinks. We will be back... Update.. we went back.. the only negative experience from a couple of visits we have had is the slow rounds. Great Cocktails do take longer to create but are very very slow. Expect to sit with an empty glass for some of the night. Otherwise the experience was excellent

The Black Pearl is a beloved spot on Brunswick Street in Melbourne, known for its relaxed atmosphere and impressive cocktail selection. The bar offers a cozy main area as well as an upscale upstairs space called The Attic, where guests can enjoy table service and a carefully curated drink menu. The bar's team has received numerous awards for their expertise and dedication to creating exceptional cocktails.
This place has a reputation for a reason and it well and truly lives up to it. Friendly attentive staff, comfortable/cozy atmosphere and great seasonal cocktails. Had a classic negroni and it’s one of the best I have had anywhere in the world. 100% must visit and I will certainly be returning.

A nice hidden, ‘above-the-noise’ kind of cocktail bar. From the alleyway entrance, to the entrance way and stairs, to being greeted by our friendly server. We only stopped in for 1 drink each due to the hour of our arrival, but for our first time visit we both thought it was quite a nice place. The exposed wooden beams and general atmosphere and fit-out of the bar was quite subdued but comfortable. Brighter than most cocktail bars this size or style. The menu was interesting, a few stood out, but again due to time we just picked 2 that we thought would be different to what we had been having at other most recent bars. The drinks were tasty, well presented and balanced. Did they blow us away? I would say no, but the quality definitely suggested that had we stayed and tried a few other drinks on the menu we may have had a better idea of what the mixologists were capable of. This is somewhere we will have to re-visit and update this review. But for our brief visit and quick drinks it was still a pleasant experience and would still say it is worth visiting to see for yourself if you are in the area (they take walk-ins).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We went to Black Pearl Bar for my partner’s birthday and wow, it was absolutely top notch in every aspect! From the amazing vibe and atmosphere to the outstanding service and the huge variety of drinks and cocktails, everything was perfect. All the staff were so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely great people. We went as a big group and had such a fun night together! This place has officially become our go-to bar from now on, 10/10, no words can describe how good it is. Highly recommended! 🍸✨

First off, every Friday or Saturday there is a bar upstairs called The Attic where you’ll find some of the most well crafted cocktails in Melbourne with an incredible atmosphere to boot. The music, vibes, and bartenders will have you sat the bar for hours talking about the heart that went into their recipes. I did my rounds hitting all the top recommended bars in Melbourne and this was easily one of my favorites. Pictured here is “The Revolver” which was a wonderful chocalatey cognac type drink paired with chunks of dark chocolate to compliment the sip. If you’re a fan of the craft you MUST come here.

Went to The Black Pearl with a friend last night and had such a lovely time in their upstairs cocktail bar! Axel and Dan in particular were so kind and welcoming, we had a great chat (even learnt a bit about molasses!) and Axel made up a cocktail just for us (based off a creative brief), which I thought was really cool (especially because it was 10/10). The service was so refreshing, and the whole atmosphere was inviting. Can’t wait to come back!

Atmosphere 7/10 Entrance through an alley, located on second floor. Cozy, warm atmosphere. Cool back bar. Pleasant music volume. Empty on a Sunday night Drinks 6/10 Recommendation: - Funky looking menu with pictures. Small menu with only couple signature drinks, which are all a bit too simple for my taste. The presentation reminds me more of a lounge than a high end cocktail bar. Pre-mixed martini in a bottle might be efficient but does not contribute to any sort of cocktail bar feeling I’m looking for. Coasters are nice. Service 7.5/10 Super friendly bartenders and water served immediately. Prices are about average for melbourne

Lui Bar is a luxurious cocktail lounge situated on the 55th floor of the Rialto building in Melbourne's central business district. The bar offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city during both day and night, with comfortable seating and an exquisite cloudlike chandelier adding to its sophisticated ambiance. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of wines and inventive cocktails while indulging in fancy snacks curated by Vue de Monde.
Lui Bar offers one of the best views in Melbourne — the city skyline looks absolutely stunning, especially during the night. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot for a special night out or a quiet drink with friends. The staff were attentive and professional, adding to the overall experience. Definitely a go-to place for great cocktails and breathtaking views! Highly recommend.

I just want to share my recent experience — I was at the bar yesterday from about 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. When I arrived, the downstairs hostess was very rude and extremely cold. It was really disappointing, especially as it was my first time visiting. But thankfully, I met Nelson — yes, N-E-L-S-O-N — at the bar upstairs. He completely changed my night! He’s full of humor, warm, and genuinely caring. I didn’t expect him to do anything special, but when I mentioned what happened with the rude hostess, he felt very sorry and surprised me with something extra special. Nelson is a fantastic, funny Italian guy who knows how to turn things around and make guests feel welcome and valued. Because of him, I left happy and will definitely come back again — all thanks to Nelson’s amazing service and great sense of humor.

Perched high above the city skyline, Lui Bar in Melbourne delivers an experience that’s as refined as it is memorable. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted not just by the panoramic views of the city lights but by an atmosphere that balances sophistication with genuine warmth. The highlight of my visit, however, was the impeccable service — particularly from Victorio, who proved to be an exceptional host. Victorio’s passion for mixology and hospitality was evident from the very first interaction. He took the time to understand our preferences, asking thoughtful questions about flavors, spirits, and moods, before crafting drinks that felt entirely personal. This isn’t the kind of bar where you simply order from a menu — at Lui Bar, the experience is tailored. Their cocktails are unique, inventive, and ever-changing, reflecting both the creativity of the bartenders and the evolving seasonal ingredients they work with. What stood out most was the willingness of the team to listen and create. Rather than relying solely on their established list, they thrive on collaboration, turning your ideas into a one-of-a-kind cocktail you won’t find anywhere else. It’s this blend of artistry and attentiveness that makes Lui Bar such a standout in Melbourne’s competitive bar scene. Whether you’re a cocktail aficionado or someone seeking a special night out, Lui Bar offers an elevated experience that feels both luxurious and personal. Thanks to Victorio and the team, my evening there was nothing short of exceptional — and I’ll definitely be returning for whatever they dream up next.

I absolutely loved Lui Bar! The place has such a beautiful atmosphere and the view is just stunning. The food and cocktails were amazing, but what made the experience truly special was the staff. They were so kind, friendly, and made us feel really welcome. It’s definitely a spot I’d love to come back to 🩷

Drinks were decent and the view was just okay. Nothing to rave about. But the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. I booked a table for 8 for my birthday. During the booking process, they asked if it was a special occasion — I clearly marked it as a birthday. We brought a cake, only to be told at the entrance that cakes aren’t allowed inside, and we couldn’t even take it out once brought in. Ridiculous and made no sense. There was absolutely no mention of this restriction during booking — so what’s the point of asking if it’s a special occasion? Despite being the largest group in the venue that night, we received zero table service. The bar has all these “high-class private” rules; you can’t even go down or up in the lift without security assistance because there are no accessible buttons. One of our friends couldn’t get back into the building after moving his car because security wasn’t there. Ended up leaving entirely. The vibe? Just okay. I’ve been to many beautiful bars with better views, friendlier staff, and a much more relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. We spent over $500 and left frustrated and disappointed. Not sure why people recommend this place. I definitely won’t be coming back. 👎

Ordered Australian made crisps and Fried chicken (H) good portion. A ketchup dip should had been added on the side. Ordered Mocktails Shiro (a mango and ginger beer ( H) and Green bamboo pineapple coconut honey lime made by bartender excellent joice by Lenny. From the both the drinks we loved the Green bamboo but the size of the mocktail had a special kind of a glass that costed us 20$ for each mocktails. The food was divine, the drinks dangerously smooth - every bite and sip a prelude to desire. If you’re someone who romanticises life, this is pure indulgence: an opulent, 360-degree love affair with Melbourne. Every glittering light, every lingering note, every sigh of the city wrapped itself around me until I was completely consumed. I didn’t just see the view…. I fell in love with all of it.

Restaurant
Bar Margaux is a vibrant and old-timey venue located in the CBD of Melbourne. It offers French bistro food and cocktails until 5 am, making it a perfect spot for late-night dining and drinks. The basement bar is inspired by New York's French brasseries, featuring vintage-inspired decor with red leather banquettes, black and white subway tiles, and dim lighting that creates an immersive experience.
I had a really lovely dinner at Bar Margaux. I had the burgers, and it was well cooked and delicious. The chips were yum and had a great portion size. The staff were really friendly and attentive. It was a really warm night, and they kept refilling our water, which was great. It's very dimly lit and a nice atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend Bar Margaux for dinner, especially before a theatre show as it's close to Her Majesty's Theatre at about a 2 minutes walk.

A very pleasant surprise in the heart of the CBD. The steak for two was amazing and cooked to perfection. It was melting as we were eating it. The only downside in terms of food was the creme brulee that was very cold near the bottom. The service was spot on! The atmosphere was very good, however the lighting could be a bit more bright as we were struggling to read the menu and others were using their phone's torch to order. Overall, we will be visiting again!

Beautiful interior and vibes from this restaurant! Service was super friendly and went through the menu with us, giving us recommendations on food and drinks. Highly recommend the escargot! Was my first time trying snails and these were the highlight of my night! Soaked in that garlic butter paired with the sourdough - absolutely delicious! Meat was also cooked relatively well and accompanying sauces were flavourful.

High expectations were not met! My son and I have travelled the length and breadth of Melbourne over the last two years sampling over twenty of the city's best burger venues as recommended by the Broadsheet website. We came to Bar Margaux with high expectations, but unfortunately walked away without them being met. The staff were friendly and attentive, but the food did not hit the mark. We ordered two of the L'Américain (cheeseburger with fries) that comes with a choice of a lager or pale ale. Neither of us were drinking so we went with a couple of soft drinks instead. The fries were on par, but the beef pattie in the burger was NQR. The sting in the tail came with the bill. We hadn't had the beers that came as part of the "Golden Hour" offer, so I was surprised to discover we had been charged for the soft drinks we ordered. I questioned this as I was paying the bill, but was told quite emphatically that it didn't matter that we hadn't had the beers and that we had to pay for the soft drinks separately.

Bar Margaux is a vibe. What a lovely bistro hotel bar vibe. The floor is checkered black and white and warm lighting was warm and homely. Menu is a classic, staff were warm and fantastic to accommodate to our needs - especially since we rocked up at 10.30pm for a table for 5. Food felt quite authentic French style bistro. Sauces were made well and we were able to share plates after a theatre production and have a discussion with a near and dear bunch of friends. Although none of the dishes stood out specifically to me, more can be done to improve the duck burger. It felt one dimensional, and would be able to benefit from a strong slaw / sauce and alternate textures.

Bar Margaux in Melbourne is a fantastic place to dine. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, and the service is impeccable. The menu is small but diverse and everything is delicious. The appetizers are particularly noteworthy and the selection of wine is impressive. I had the pleasure of trying the steak, which was cooked to perfection and the sauce that accompanied it was incredible. The desert was a perfect finish to the meal, the chocolate fondant was rich and decadent. Overall, the food and service were both outstanding, I would highly recommend Bar Margaux to anyone looking for a special dining experience in Melbourne.

Came to Bar Margaux last night for dinner to celebrate our 15 year anniversary. The hostess was absolutely lovely and got us some sparkling wine to start to celebrate the milestone. Fabulous staff, atmosphere, décor and food. So glad I came here as my birthday treat during a visit to Melbourne! The staff were wonderfully attentive and helpful, even encouraging me to use my phone torch to help read the menu in the dim lighting, and finding the exact bottle of liquor that was in my cocktail so I could get the recipe right to try at home. There were fabric handtowels in the ladies which you rarely find anymore but always makes an establishment extra classy.

Cookie, situated in Melbourne's CBD, is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse menu. The restaurant offers a fusion of Australian and regional Thai cuisine, along with an array of signature cocktails. The bustling space features captivating murals on the walls, creating a hip ambiance perfect for late-night dining. From steaming bowls of drunken noodles to beef and ginger dumplings, the menu boasts an enticing selection of dishes.
This restaurant has such a cool vibe - the space, decor, drinks and food were just wonderful! We had to order our food at the bar, which is a bit weird, but that doesn’t deflect from the experience or the fabulous staff. The food is delicious, serves more than adequate, innovative dishes, and some great cocktails (the menu has its own ‘book’, and there is a HUGE selection of craft beers). The scallops with pomelo were superb, the betel leaf dish was a great addition, the duck pancakes were the best I’ve ever had. Everything was great - you’d be seriously missing out if you didn’t give this place a go. Thank you to the chefs and staff for a great experience ❤️

Lovely Monday lunch with friends at Cookie. The table has been booked well in advance. Service was good, lunch all foods very nice so it was atmosphere. Drink menue is large. Something to choose for everyone. We shall be back.

Cookie really is a Melbourne institution. It’s been around for as long as I can remember, and after years since my last visit, I decided to go back and refresh my memory. The interiors are eclectic and chaotic in the best way possible — walls plastered with posters and art, a bar with a brick base and marble top, and quirky objects (mainly books) scattered everywhere. It’s definitely a space with personality. The menu, though, can be a little overwhelming at first — both food and drinks are extensive. As a Bloody Mary fan, my choice was easy, but I’d recommend checking the menu online before you go so you’re not rushed. Luckily, we had a group of six and a helpful waitress to guide us, which made ordering much easier. Some standouts for us were the Thai herb cured Kingfish, Garlic chive dumplings, Massaman beef curry, and Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. Every dish we tried was full of flavour, but those were the real highlights. As the cuisine is Thai, expect a fair bit of spice across the menu. We were seated in a cozy corner at the back, which felt private and perfect for conversation without the usual city noise. The menu is designed for sharing, and we had plenty of food to fill us all. With two drinks each and a generous spread, we spent under $100 per person — fantastic value for the quality and variety. Cookie is vibrant, fun, and full of character — an absolute classic Melbourne dining experience.

Cookie is super cute. The food had great flavour but mine was served cold unfortunately. I got the chicken and cashew nut stir fry. The coconut rice could have been a bit stronger in flavour. Decent portions and yummy cocktails. My friends for the Massaman Curry and Pad Thai and really enjoyed their dishes. The staff were nice but kinda had the vibe they wanted to get you in and out as quickly as possible, they hovered a lot even though it wasn’t very busy. Their bar is huge, I’m sure they could make you any drink you wanted! The food is worth trying if you like Thai food.
Hannah — Google review
Came down here on a Friday night, the place was buzzing at 6pm. We ordered a variety of dumpling dishes, both vegetarian and meat versions. For the main dishes we ordered the flat noodles, red curry, beef ribs and turmeric Maryland. All the dishes were well flavoured and definitely carries the nostalgic flavour notes of their Asian (mostly Thai) origins. The fusion is clear and the flavour is well adapted to the new age Australian palette. Worthy of having a work function and a gathering. There’s so much variety to choose from you won’t be disappointed.

The food is delicious, no doubt…some really exotic dishes which their staff are happy to recommend. What I found even more exemplary, was their customer service…special shout to the wonderful girl, Khandi, who served us ever so patiently, and recommended dishes that perfectly matched our taste buds and palettes. We had a great experience overall. Will definitely go back there for more of their good food and customer service. ❤️

Madame Brussels is a charming pink-and-white cocktail bar in Melbourne, named after an eccentric 19th-century brothel owner. Accessible by stairs or lift, the rooftop bar offers a garden party ambiance with white wicker chairs and pink walls, providing stunning city views. The menu features cocktails served in teapots and a variety of cupcakes. The venue's 1950s patio style and staff attire add to its unique charm.
What do you say about a restaurant that has a fantastic staff, great drinks, and some lovely snacks.....Bravo. This was such a delight at the end of a long day. Let's start with the staff, attentive and friendly. Many passes by the table thru our stay, keeping us well lubricated and happily fed. Everyone there was a pleasure to talk to, and we absolutely had a great time. The drinks were amazing from the sangria to their specialty drinks. The only complaint was I just wanted more and more as they went down very smoothly. Now, to the snacks, we had the scones and some olives. The scones were made in-house and were amazing, coming out warm with whipped cream and berry compote were absolutely perfect. The experience was like going to a friend's house and having a lovely evening on the patio. Well done, and thank you!

This is such a unique little bar spot. It’s a rooftop bar that’s all pastel and cute themed and all of the servers are dressed in tennis fits. It’s so cute! There are a wide range of drinks and food to choose from that change seasonally and it’s just such a great vibe. We’ve been here many many times because it’s just a great little spot that you definitely should check out! Make sure you get a bowl of chips here too. I still dream about them.

Very disappointing, definitely not worth the three flights of stairs walk up. Staff had no sense of urgency and showed no interest in providing even the most basic level of guest experience. Despite having a reservation, and there only being 3-4 other tables with guests on them, we were seated on a table so small we needed to ask to be moved to a larger table when the food arrived so we had enough space for the plates. The sandwich was good, but the salmon was dry, unappetising and appeared to have been sitting out for hours. After one drink and a few bites of the food we decided to go elsewhere. Upon paying the bill, the audacity of the staff to ask for a tip was both amusing and delusional. For some reason later in the evening I received an email from OpenTable letting me know my booking had been cancelled by the restaurant - despite having already dined. Maybe to avoid paying the booking fee from their end? Overall a terrible experience, would not recommend. It’s really disappointing to see a once great Melbourne venue decline so greatly in both quality and service.

Cute venue and even cuter waiters and waitresses. Great place to have a cocktail and bite to eat and chat away with good friends. There are vegetarian options on the menu and wide range of cocktails and alcoholic beverages. A bit hard to find as the front entrance is marked with a small sign on the door.

Don’t come here for the cocktails. The Gin & Tonic was made in a long glass so watered down you couldn’t even taste the gin. Really nice rooftop space though to take in a sunset but the overall atmosphere is lacking. It almost felt like a Japanese maid cafe. Significantly older crowd than other rooftop bars in the area. Would recommend nearby Carlton Club, Loop Roof, Good Heavens or 1806 for a better vibe.

Great view. It’s better to book ahead if you want an outside seat. Sunday afternoon is very occupied so service is quite slow. But all staff are very friendly. Drinks are fine.

We ran here after work to get a table and when we arrived we were greeted straight away and could sit outside. The table service is a really nice touch and their outfits add to the vibe the place is going for. Grab some drinks to share, sit back and relax to watch the sunset over Melbourne

Was ok. I had a great afternoon with the girls. Great weather and we were seated outside at the top level. Service could have been better. We waited a while for drinks. The table needs to be set first before bringing the food so people are not waiting around for plates.

Restaurant
Embla is a popular wine bar located in Melbourne's CBD, known for its laid-back vibe and modern Australian dishes that rotate through seasonal menus. The restaurant offers an extensive wine menu and gourmet small plates, perfect for sharing among friends or enjoying as a couple.
As a tourist to be able to enjoy such a lovely ambiance at dinner was excellent, the restaurant is using lighting to set the moods and incorporating natural elements ie wood to set up the atmosphere. To start with we had the bread, Tuna and clams for the main course we had TBone steak and Trout , a side dish of spaghetti with pistachios (this was really special). The food was deliciously presented and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, we were too full to try any desserts. The service was very attentive indeed. Will definitely go back again when I am in Melbourne and recommending to all my friends !

On one of our final days visiting Melbourne, we wanted to tried some wine bar dining. We heard great things about here and let’s say it didn’t disappoint! Both my fiancé and I had an amazing evening. From the food, which every dish was a standout. The service was very warm and welcoming. Wish I remember the name of our host, but he was very helpful with suggesting how many dishes we should order from the menu. The same could be said about the wine, where he had a great knowledge of the wine. The highlight dish for me was the tuna with radicchio, something I don’t see on menus usually. The Vonglole and chicken breast were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We hope to visit again when we come back down to Melbourne. Thanks for the great hospitality!

Absolutely no notes at all, this place was wildly good. Service was top notch. Warm and attentive but not at all overbearing. The atmosphere is perfect. Very intentional and refined on every level - the lighting, the decor, the art. Nothing feels like an accident in this place. Watching the kitchen staff work through the open kitchen window got me very excited for the food. They were serious and paying a great deal of attention to their craft but loose and relaxed at the same time. Now the food was some of the best I’ve ever had. We shared everything - the lamb which was cooked to perfection and flavoured at the same level. The savoury tart which was a dish we just couldn’t stop talking about all week. Soured cucumbers, bread and I can’t even remember what else but it was all 1000/10. Everything was covered in fresh herbs but not in a token garnish way, they were all very much a part of the dish. Every aspect of this meal wowed us and we were surprised at how low our bill was walking away. I would have paid more for this calibre of meal but the fact we didn’t, made it all the better. This place is a knockout in every way, do not skip it.

Been wanting to visit since I tried saison aperitifs years ago! Embla met all expectations and even more. Food so good we forgot to take better photos. Tart shell on that globe artichoke tart is soooo thin and crisp. Remarkable! Please order the vermouths too!!!

A Melbourne institution and I loved it. Had dinner and wine and it was all so delicious! 9/10 Chickpea whitlof 8/10 (probably best shared between 3-4) Feta and cucumbers 10/10 Scallop 7.5/10 -nice and flavoursome Bread is bread and it was truly delicious Trout 8/10 but paired with the butternut squash (as recommended) and it was a 9/10 The butternut squash is quite salty and savoury so I would try and pair it with something! Wine was so good and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly on recommending something that suits. I would HIGHLY recommend coming here!

Can’t go wrong, amazing food! Great relaxed ambience, service was amazin! Had the scallops, cucumbers, raw beef, fish. Loved every bit of it, was a bit apprehensive with the raw beef but was by far the best dish. Desert was excellent too. A must try. Excellent in every regards

Embla Wine Bar in Melbourne is effortlessly cool — a warm, intimate space with low lighting, laid-back tunes, and a vibe that invites you to sink in and stay awhile. The wine list is excellent, with a great selection by the glass showcasing interesting producers and styles. Every pour feels thoughtfully curated, and the friendly staff add to the relaxed charm. It’s the perfect spot for unwinding with friends or a solo glass at the bar. The only disappointment? It closes at 5 p.m. on Sundays — just when the chill session starts to hit its stride. Otherwise, near-perfect.

Got recommended this place and visited on our date night in August. We tried a few dishes, but unfortunately, the only one I remember is their duck liver parfait — which was actually quite good. The other dishes, however, weren’t particularly memorable. And as some other reviews have mentioned, their glass wine prices felt way too high considering the wines’ retail prices at liquor shops. It made us question whether it was really worth spending more to try additional dishes or wines, so we ended up not ordering more and wrapping up early.

Cocktail bar
Goldilocks Bar, located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, is a cozy rooftop spot offering craft beer, wine, and snacks. The bar features an intimate setting with an ever-changing menu of creative cocktails that put a modern twist on classic drinks. Embracing sustainability, Goldilocks is virtually plastic-free and supports local producers while recycling as much as possible. Situated above a Chinese restaurant, this hidden gem provides a spectacular city view and delicious food options.
I love Goldilocks! I appreciate how many vegan nibbles they have on the menu and the delicious array of cocktails. I just recently visited for the second time in the last year and both times have been a worthwhile visit. Special Shout out to the team who were working Saturday 12th arvo/night shift, as they were really lovely when one of our dishes took much longer than the other dishes to arrive. Highly recommend the vegan popcorn chicken, the veggie noodles and popcorn chicken! Photos from two separate visits 😊

Goldilocks Rooftop Bar is an absolutely wonderful spot in Melbourne! The rooftop offers a truly magnificent view over the city – the perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening. The cocktails are simply outstanding – creative, beautifully presented, and, most importantly, delicious. You can really tell that the bartenders put thought and skill into every drink. Service was quick, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Whether you’re looking for a place to enjoy a sunset drink, celebrate with friends, or just soak in the city atmosphere with a great cocktail in hand, this rooftop bar is a must-visit. Highly recommended – a hidden gem that captures the best of Melbourne’s nightlife!

My friends and I were visiting Melbourne for the weekend from Canberra and this was a really nice spot to go to! We enjoyed the atmosphere, drinks and the service we received from staff was really good - they were incredibly polite and professional. I also liked the selection of mocktails, I had one and still felt like I was part of the experience as I couldn’t drink alcohol at the time. Will be back here next time we visit Melbourne!

There's a reason GoldiLocks was voted top ten rooftop bars in Melbourne. Now when you first arrive you may wonder where are you going , it's almost as if you're following the white rabbit in the Matrix but once you get to the rooftop bar you will be pleased. The staff were very friendly when we walked in and we sat anywhere as it wasn't busy. Our server was super knowledgeable and friendly and we got our drinks ordered easy. Once they came the drinks were pleasing to the eye as well as the stomach. My espresso martini was amazing. It tasted great and was delightfully strong. We ordered some food while we waited for the rest of our party and while the food took forever and this is due to them using a restaurant located in the building the comped it due to the wait which was great. That being said once it did come it was delicious. While we were all there having a good time they were hearing a pitch from a local company to use there moon shine drink. The salesman was happy to share samples with us and it was great. Now we were told they are going with it and hopefully that was because of us hahaha. Non the less try the apple moon shine. Overall a great experience from start to finish so get up there.

Unique Roof Top Bar with cosy Goldilocks 'Just right' atmosphere. Hard to find on busy Swanston Street, but worth persevering till you get to the roof. Take lift to 4th floor, and walk up the final flight of stairs to see the cityscape. 🌆 Constantly offering great Asian-Fusion treats, inventive cocktails and drink experiences. We tried the dumplings (Xiaolongbao) and wantons. The Espresso Martini rated high, as did the Maple Old Fashioned. We were tempted to try the 'Boozy Brunch' (all you can eat), however we ran out of time. They were setting up to promote 'Melbourne Moonshine' this month. We tried the 'Apple Pie Shine.' It's brilliant! Frequent events are staged to keep you entertained and returning. PS: They can even cater for your function (call Meagan).

I really like the vibe, it’s pretty chill and easy to get to. The cocktails are great too, I ordered a matcha cocktail (can’t remember the name) but it was sweet and easy to drink. I recently went alone on a Tuesday night and didn’t need a reservation since it wasn’t busy. I actually tried going with my friends (3 of us) on a Thursday once, but it was full so we couldn’t get a table. Funny thing is, a couple came in after us and got a table even though they hadn’t booked, and the staff didn’t mention there were only seats left for two. Overall though, it was a really good experience. They also have quite a variety of promotions.

After a long day at work you may need few sips of cocktails to unwind. Especially if the weather is smiling gently. This bar is located on top of the building where machi machi is located. However, the trip upstairs might not be the prettiest because the elevator reeked of smoke. However you will be greeted by nice staff and fresh air. I ordered their baby bear cocktail and took a sip of the papa bear from my mate and I am happy to announce that I enjoyed both. As you have already guessed it's not a cheap place so try and take advantage of happy hour betwee. 4-6pm.
Shai N — Google review
Did the bottomless Brunch. The great views from the rooftop were a fantastic bonus to the whole experience. The service was absolutely outstanding and attentive. The staff were fantastic; they constantly pre-empted our drinks finishing and came straight over to take another order before we even had to signal them. We also really appreciated that they handled a last-minute cancellation smoothly and provided a full refund for our friend who was unable to attend. Regarding the food, the unlimited spring rolls, chips, and vegan calamari were all good and a very welcome feature. However, we found the main meal options to be a bit unrefined and underwhelming in both taste and appearance. Overall, this is an incredible spot for a seamless, well-run bottomless session with great service and snacks!

The Rooftop Bar at Curtin House is a popular open-air venue in Melbourne, known for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning city views. It is famous for its summer rooftop cinema sessions and is considered one of the city's favorite sky bars. The bar offers reliable drinks and a perfect vantage point to enjoy the city skyline. Located atop the historic Curtin House, it was one of the pioneering rooftop bars in Melbourne when it opened in 2006.
My mate wanted to try a rooftop bar and thus decided to explore this place. Since it was just before the holidays, the place was packed. It felt very congested and warm. I did not try their food thus, will not comment on it. The staff were nice but quite busy, as you can imagine. On an average day, this place will be a great spot to hang out. I just tried their highball drinks and Ginger beer. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you pay for the location and the view.

This rooftop bar at Curtin House is such an amazing place. It has quite an industrial look and in the evening it gets very busy with especially students. Nevertheless it is a great place to come as a tourist. The prices are reasonable and they have a very big menu.

Overall, my visit to The Rooftop was really enjoyable. The venue has a great vibe, fantastic music, and the bartenders who were there when I arrived were super friendly. I got there around 3 PM and enjoyed the happy hour that kicked off at 4 PM, which was a nice perk. The only reason I’m not giving a full five stars is one specific interaction that was a bit off. Towards the end of happy hour, I went back to the bar just a couple of minutes after it ended and jokingly mentioned I’d just missed it. One particular bartender—an Asian lady with a gelled hairstyle—responded in a way that felt a bit dismissive and kind of curt, basically telling me I’d had plenty of time to get the deal. It just came across as a little rude and put a slight damper on the experience. In short, it’s a great spot and I’d still recommend it, but maybe a little more consistency in friendliness would make it perfect.

What a vibe. Came here for a beer or for some food, whatever they had. When we got upstairs (level 7) on the balcony, there was a nice bar and some food offerings as well. There was a special for $22 for a Cheeseburger/Mushroom Burger, some frieds and a can of Balter. We got two and it was outstanding. The dude who served us was super chill and it was a great experience. I would highly recommend dropping in during Mon-Fri working hours, as I imagine it would be packed otherwise. Thank you to everyone and I look forward to visiting again soon! 😊

A local friend brought me here. The bar is hidden on the rooftop of Curtin House, so you wouldn’t spot it without knowing. The space is open and airy, with different seating areas that feel almost like a little playground for all personalities. Sitting here, I got to people-watch so many styles — fashion, haircuts, and nationalities. If you enjoy people-watching, you’ll love this spot. The menu has a wide range: cocktails, mocktails, beers, and bar snacks like burgers, fries, mac and cheese, etc. Quality matches the price. I ordered the One Way Ticket (AUD 22) — totally my style: refreshing pandan notes, a touch of lime, and a creamy coconut finish. The view faces the surrounding CBD buildings, slightly blocking the sky, but on warm sunny days, you can probably still catch the sky changing colors at sunset.

My friend and I came here for a drink by chance, as Mesa Verde downstairs was not opening for another 45 minutes. We ordered the In The Garden cocktail, and....it was terrible. Sue me for wanting a drink, from the *cocktail* menu, in a cocktail glass, but the drink was poured into a schooner glass or what I used to drink lemon lime and bitters from as a teenager. If the drink hadn't been hosed down with soda water, I think it would have been tasty. But it was diluted, flavourless, and garnished with a limp flower that looked like a weed. Nice views, cute garden. Go to Mesa Verde instead.

Arbory Bar & Eatery is a spacious and stylish riverside venue in Melbourne, offering gourmet breakfast, light fare, and share plates. This New Year's Eve, the bar is hosting a Tulum-inspired Jungle Party with Afloatacross two venues. The event promises an exotic night of dining, drinking, dancing to music from top DJs, and stunning views of the fireworks.
This was my second visit. The lobster roll is so yummy, even my friend who’s not into fish or fishy anything had a bite and liked it. It’s buttery toasty goodness. Yum! Last visit we had the salt and vinegar chicken wings and they were nice too. Had an espresso martini too which was good as far as they go! Would be great to come back in summer and use the pool, also I’d like to try the restaurant right next to it which is the Italian restaurant (think it’s the same place but actually on the water)

Second time here. Suggest to make reservation if you’re in a big group, else walk in was smooth as well. Making reservation was a new experience for me, as I didn’t know we had to check the reservation chit on the table ourselves. We asked an employee for our reservation when we arrived, she looked a bit perplexed and confused at first, but eventually checked and pointed out the table for us once I explained I wasn’t familiar with the process. That’s then I discovered the reservation chit on the table :) Great winter vibes and tasty food, just a bit disappointed by the steak.

Great service!!! I loved the scenery and food but the service is what made me write this review. Super patience, charismatic and accomodating staff. Especially a devastating handsome man named Alex and the coolest bartender named Ruby. Pair this with a wholesome Morrocan soup and fun cocktails, it makes for a perfect night out with a small group of friends :)

As anywhere in Melbourne, it’s expensive. A beer and a not so inspiring burger cost $40. I ordered via the QR code on the table which was simple enough. It’s right next to Flinders St train station, so it’s in a great spot
Travis D — Google review
Very disappointed with the food and service. My wife ordered chips and aioli because she has allergies and it was too hard to order anything else. You can take away items from a dish but you can’t add even a simple ingredient like sliced tomato. The chips were served in a paper bag in an enamel bowl. When she lifted the bag to tip the chips into the bowl it was rusty. My meal arrived 15 minutes after hers so we couldn’t eat together and the excuse was that all she ordered was chips…why should that matter? My fish was nice but the “salad” was half a lettuce, herbs and a tiny amount of dressing. I saw a review (complaint) from 3 months ago about the same thing and the manager said he’d look into this. I guess he doesn’t care what customers think. The chips were too salty, and I love salt. Another customer had 2 small greyhounds and one of the staff was patting them and letting them rub all over her apron, then went back to work, serving food and drinks without washing her hands.

Great vibes and even better drinks! This bar has an awesome atmosphere—perfect for a night out with friends, the cocktails were both creative and strong. Loved the view and the crowd was fun but chill. Definitely a new favorite spot in the area. I’ll be back for sure!

The view of the Yarra and the convenience of being close to Flinders Station are the best parts. Service can be a little slow and sometimes you need chase things up.
Oswald A — Google review
The location is on the north side of the river and you sit outside, directly next to a platform at Flinders Street station On the south side, you have marginal view of the Yarra River, as it's obscured by trees. You can order food either at the bar or use the QR code at your table. The trestle tables are outdoors. The stools at the table are screwed into the floor. There is chilled filtered water to the left of the bar. Other than the chicken parma all the other dishes were very disappointing considering the very high prices of each dish. Refer below. 1. The chicken burger was over cooked. 2. The steak was very thin and chewey and was covered with large pieces of salt. 3. The salmon salad was very plain and simple and something my 15yr old could of made. 5. The fish was also over cooked. 6. The double cheese burger was more like a 1.5 burger as the top patty was half the size of the bottom patty. Overall the experience wasn't the best especially as only 1 out of 7 dishes were of acceptable quality.

Kirk's Wine Bar, located on Hardware Lane in Melbourne's CBD, is a chic and lively spot offering specialty wines and creative bar bites. Led by Ian Curly of French Saloon, this Euro-style bar boasts a well-curated wine list and expert staff ready to recommend the perfect glass for every palate. The venue, once home to the KirksBazaar Hotel, now offers a taste of Europe with its stylish space and patio.
Casual wine bar in Hardware Lane, that serves good food. This related enclave of wine bar, another small dining room for 8 downstairs, street dining in Hardware Lane situated under the French Saloon upstairs. So many options. There are a number of specials posted on the wall in addition to the menu. Good wine list, but wines by the glass are limited but there are a couple of Corovin offerings as well. The food does not disappoint and the sauces like upstairs are delicious and the dining environment casual and friendly. Staff are friendly and helpful too. No negatives here. This wine bar is worth a visit. As I said, so many options but walk-ins only. Enjoy.

Favourite wine bar where you can sit outdoors and people watch in the bustling Hardware Lane or cosy it up indoors with a glass of Nebbiolo. Arguably also the best wine bar fries in Melbourne. Crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside.

Lovely wine bar with tasty food and warm service! The ambiance is super cute especially outside on a sunny evening. Service was also super helpful and friendly. Onto the food - lots of interesting dishes on the menu, and I thought all of them were tasty but not outstanding. The thing that was outstanding was probably the chips - they were soooooo good. Would be back for drinks and chips and for the vibes, but not in a rush go back for dinner!

RECEIPT No. 2. Kirk’s Wine Bar, Melbourne (A RETURN, observed) There was a time I came here every week. Just me, a bar seat, a sketchbook, something simple and lovely on a plate. I’d order a drink, watch the bar staff work with elegance and ease, and draw whatever felt true. I always left feeling more like myself. Last night, I brought Sam. It was a surprise, he didn’t know where we were going, just that we were going out. I booked us an Uber there and back. He said no one had ever done that for him before. The night was my thank you to him. For every meal he made while I worked on my 75 illustrations. For all the quiet support, the warmth, the steadiness. I wanted to take him somewhere that meant something to me, and now, to us. We arrived just after 5pm, early enough to beat the no-booking crowd. Even so, the place was already buzzing, a rainy, cold night, but still full. We got lucky with a window seat. We started with two Negronis and asked the waitress what the most “Kirk’s” dish was. She named it without pause. (We ordered it, of course, and shared everything, as always.) There was steak frites with café de Paris butter, thick house-made chips, a green leaf salad dressed with dijon and bright grapefruit. And for dessert: two affogatos, one with amaretto, one with frangelico, soft, sweet, and just the right ending. The whole evening felt like a gentle collage of our travels and rituals, Milan and Paris, folded into one small window seat in Melbourne. Familiar food, thoughtful service, soft lighting, and the sound of a wine bar alive with conversation, just tucked off a laneway in the city. A treat, a thank you, a soft celebration. The total: $200. Almost exactly what we’d spent at Marmelo the week before. Coincidence, or just what good dinners cost when they mean something? wine bar: a favourite returned to chips: fat, golden, made in-house affogato: shared, spiked, softly celebratory total: $200, still worth every cent More @thejulietreport

Whenever I’m in Melbourne, I always make a point of stopping by for a drink and a bite to eat. A couple of days ago, my sister and I chose to sit outside, even with the rain about, and we still had a wonderful time. The wine was excellent, the chips were more than we could possibly finish, and we loved watching the bustle of pedestrians trying to stay dry. With the help of a very attentive and lovely waitress, we were able to shift our table slightly to dodge the rain, which made the experience all the more memorable.

My friend recommended this place for its pasta of the day. When we visited, there were two options, so we ordered one of each. The King prawn pasta was too salty, which made it quite disappointing. It would go well with wine, but I think it would be much better if it were less salty. The lamb pasta was quite greasy, but it didn’t have any bad smell, and the sauce was nice. I’m not really a wine person, but I ended up having two glasses because they were really good. And the staff were really, really nice, so it became a very good memory for me.

The perfect weekly lunch spot to catch up with friends and have a glass of wine. I really admired Kirk’s and its concept. It reminds me a lot of what Melbourne is about. It’s hidden situated on the corner of Hardware lane, with indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside because of the weather but it was honestly such a beautiful space to sit in, very bright and open. We ordered a few dishes to share and 4 dishes between the 3 of us was the perfect amount of food to fill us up. I ordered one of the skin contact wines which paired perfectly with the food. The staff as well were very attentive and food came out very quickly.

Love this place. Friendly, knowledgeable staff that are happy to walk you through the EXTENSIVE beers on tap to help you find the right thing. Great cocktails as well and I really cool warehouse/loft vibe within the bar, with plenty of space (and lighting!) To have a drink with a group of friends. Highly recommend if you're out in the West and want a place to have a drink.

Oyster bar restaurant
Cocktail bar
Pearl Diver is a chic new bar that offers a unique oyster experience paired with innovative cocktails. Located in Bourke Street's Midcity Centre, this former nail salon has been transformed into a luxurious wine bar where patrons can indulge in rock and pacific oysters sourced from various regions. The menu features options such as natural oysters, dressed in cre fraiche and caviar, or grilled kilpatrick. The bar also serves tiki-inspired cocktails and classic drinks infused with Victorian spirits.
Had a great time here. The $2 oyster deal is probably the best you’ll find in the area—really fresh and well prepared. It can get pretty busy, so booking online is a good idea if you don’t want to wait or miss out. Pairing the oysters with one of their signature drinks and some fries made for a solid, laid-back night. Would definitely come back.
Susan C — Google review
The $2 oysters were delicious. The waiters did an amazing job and communicated well. The mains were wonderfully prepared and presented. We had the Atlantic salmon, octopus skewers, and lamb rump. They all tasted great! FAIR WARNING: Despite tasting amazing, the mains are quite small, so I recommend ordering more than one for yourself. I'm not a big eater, but I was left wanting more.
Vesses W — Google review
Pleasant environment and friendly staff. Highly recommend the $2 oysters during happy hour but it might open palates and break through a floodgate! Food was top notch. My favorite of the night was the black garlic chicken and grilled octopus skewers.
Michael — Google review
Cocktail was very good. Wine by glass was so so. Skewers were a bit salty, especially the octopus. Was attracted by the Oyster Happy Hour $2 each from 5pm to 7pm.... You pay what you get, oyster was very small, most importantly it's not chilled. Picked the non happy hour choice of oyster, taste pretty similar. So simply pick the Happy hour option if you are there for oyster. Good ambience, will return.
Tina L — Google review
My friends and I had an amazing time at Pearl Diver last night. The staff members were awesome, they were very welcoming and accommodating. The quality of the oysters was top notch, they were all freshly shucked and of course they were all fresh and tasty. The drinks were strong, straight to the point, no bs water down ingredients, just the way I like. The atmosphere was just perfect for a lovely night of a fun and chic hangout. Will definitely be back and will recommend to our other friends!

nice bar vibe but too hard to grab a staff member to ask for water We had $2 oysters deal. Our order was delayed. Not until I managed to get a staff to ask, our oysters came immediately that told me they had missed out our order Even condiments had been ordered with our oysters but we needed to find staff and tell them
Trà T — Google review
Maybe the worst oysters I've had in Australia, had to fish out shell fragments from 2/3 of my dozen. Freshness ranged from almost quite fresh to potentially food poison concerns, one or two tasted borderline. I've never seen oysters plated with significant chips like this, which probably cause the fragments in the meat. If it were just superficial, no biggie. And sure, you can say you get what you pay for, but the daily special oysters are allegedly the same as their usual $5.50 ones. But how the hell are they shucking these, with a machete? The chips were also not cooked well. If a place can't even get basic chips right, it says a lot. The only thing that was positive here was the service. If you're looking for actual good value oysters, go to nearby Cumulus, much higher quality at same price, with superior cooks too if you want additional food.
Al ( — Google review
I visited this restaurant after hearing about their oyster happy hour. The oysters were fresh and quite enjoyable, definitely a highlight of the visit. However, the service efficiency left much to be desired. The staff was noticeably inefficient — multiple times I saw food ready to be served, but instead of bringing it to customers, the staff were busy wiping tables or doing other non-urgent tasks. It was frustrating to watch and showed a clear lack of organization and prioritization.

Apollo Inn is a sophisticated and refined cocktail bar that exudes an effortless elegance. It is the first cocktail bar for renowned restaurateur Andrew McConnell, offering a restrained yet assured experience. The venue has garnered hype for its four martini choices and an orderable-in-its-entirety snack menu. Upon entering, guests are transported to a speak-easy-like atmosphere with post-war European decor and low lighting.
Behind these leather-cushion doors is the most intimate, classy lounge I've visited. Right next to its Mother, Gimlet, this bar is one that I think I will keep coming back to. I'm not alone in thinking this because we were very very lucky to get a seat without a booking. There was a long line out the door for the whole time we were dining. Booking HEAVILY recommended.
Tim N — Google review
Loved every minute at Apollo Inn, from the moment we stepped through the beautiful entry door to the very last bite. The service was impeccable, warm, and perfectly attentive without being overbearing. The food was a cut above: the oysters were sublime, and the Prawn Club was to die for (so good I forgot to take a photo!). Every detail felt considered, making it one of those rare spots where everything just works. It has now equalled Embla as our favourite Melbourne bar – both are truly outstanding.

Perfect Martini's every time. Bar staff very knowledgeable Really good TEAM of people The best intimate ambience around. Depending on customers of course but usually one doesn't have to raise your voice to be heard. Very attentive but also low key. Overall excellence.
Michael A — Google review
Dropped in here last night for the first time, for a pre dinner drink and what an fantastic experience! The outside is very non descript and it would be easy to pass if you weren't aware of it. As soon as you go through the inner padded doors, you are swept into a beautifully dimly lit speakeasy with a slick, but warm atmosphere that simply wraps you in it's velvet hand and draws you in. The concierge was incredibly welcoming and chatty and then the service and knowledge from the staff was outstanding. When we arrived there were no seats but we were able to stand at the bar, and then we were approached and ushered down to a couple of spare seats, without us even having to lift a finger to carry our own drinks, these were whisked down to our new seats and presented with an understated and sophisticated flourish. Definitely coming back here again. Oh, and the drinks menu and drinks themselves are nothing short of awesome.

Apollo Inn is a stylish, 28-seat cocktail bar on Flinders Lane from @chef_andrewmcconnell . Inspired by classic European hotel bars, it pairs moody, elegant interiors with expertly crafted cocktails and a refined wine list. Walk-ins are welcome (which we did as it was a Sunday) but bookings are also available to avoid disappointment. Here’s an overview of what we had: ❤️‍🔥 Chips & dip: fantastic, delicious dip & refillable crisps to dip in 🐟 Tuna tartare, lemon, crème fraîche: absolutely fantastic, so fresh & moreish 🌭 Hot dog special: the perfect hot dog to fill the spot! This was soooo yum! No notes 🍸 LUCIEN GAUDIN: Tanqueray gin, Campari, extra dry vermouth, house Marnier: like a negroni in a martini form, delish! 🍹 Hazelnut martini: Hazelnut eau de vie, house Frangelico, hazelnut miso, Amontillado, fantastic! Loved the balance of sweetness 🍓 I wish I remembered the name of the last one but it had pisco, summer fruits, it was delicious! The service here was fantastic, food was great & drinks were also excellent! They’ve done an excellent job & I can’t wait to come back! 4.8/5

Ducked in for a quick pre-dinner cocktail and we were lucky enough to get a table without a booking. Such a great tiny bar, had the classic dry martini and it was absolutely fabulous. An instant favourite spot.

Coffee negroni is like everything I’d ever want in a drink and the gin lemon martini situation was like an asexual drink in the best way possible. Also bella was GOATed. Great time. Great bar. Confused about the pineapple on the wall but I think it’s a spunky addition.

It is renowned for providing access to limited-edition Scotch Malt Whisky Society single cask bottlings at affordable prices. The intimate setting on the second floor of a building off Russell Street allows patrons to engage with knowledgeable bartenders who are eager to share their recommendations.
An amazing whiskey place in Melbourne. Really enjoyed their cocktails and the range of whiskey. Great ambiance. Certainly going back again when I visit Melbourne next time.

Superb service. I got the whiskey tasting paddle and it was great to have an omakase-style experience with letting the bartender decide. I loved the personable service of them explaining the selection to you. And the flavours were great! I was told one of them was smoky like charcuterie and indeed it was, so rich and full in flavour.
The M — Google review
I'll be back for sure anytime I'm in Melbourne. Ordered a flight of whiskies. Told the bartender my preferences and curiosities, then he proposed a tasting journey for the flight I was happy to take. The whiskies were excellently sequenced for an increasingly intense, but complimentary flavour profile. I got to enjoy whiskeys outside of what I'd usually choose.
Rob — Google review
Not sure if I want to tell people about this hidden gem in Melbourne. If you enjoy whisky and haven’t been here you are so missing out. Fantastic selection of whisky, and the service is always next level. They will always find a whisky to suit your mood. Or a flight if you prefer. If you haven’t been… stop reading reviews and go now… right now!! You won’t be disappointed.

This is a great bar! Recently the bar and service is really good. Want to thank Kayla for her service and hospitality. The whiskey sour is very good and Kayla was very accommodating to our needs to make a great sour. Recommend coming here to try your favourite drink. Thanks also to Kyle for his service and dedication.

Awesome little whisky bar with over 500 whiskies! We did some whisky tasting flights where the bartender chose the selection for us based on our tastes. He didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere and vibe in there, would definitely return! If I had one gripe, it would be that the stools are uncomfortable - they're fixed to the ground, don't have a footrest, and don't have a backrest. These things would make the place perfect! Update - came back, still great!
Seb T — Google review
Big fan of this place! Knowledgable staff, good selection, and prices are reasonable. All them to pair a beer for any whiskey you pick for a custom boilermaker.

The selection here is amazing. So many different whiskies. Super knowledgeable staff. Ardbeg ambassadors so they have anything from Ardbeg you can imagine. Even had this years festival release, spectacular. Got the dealers choice. They set me up with a fun tasting that really showcased what flavors I told them I liked. Will go back if I am in the area. Worth traveling to visit this place! Only sad part was no food, what they did have was delicious but it was more snacks than anything else.

Amazing place to have post dinner drinks, we went there after dinner on Thursday and tried a few spirits. They have a huge variety of Australian spirits, the bartender is keen to chat about it too and made me a special gin sour. The classic jaffle with chutney was delicious as well. Also that's the image of special absinthe shot the bartender made for us.

All Australian spirits and boutique ingredients in an invitingly familiar bar. 480 spirits to choose from. Seats about 40-50 people. Great bar banter and no pretentious dismissive staff. Double thumbs up! And you have to try the beef bacon amd cheese toasties and the pork sausage with mash toastie. Devine....

No drinks menu at all. Beers were served with small table glasses. Old Fashioned cocktails were overpriced and filled with bad bourbon... like it was supposed to be a shot? Goodness me...

We went to a great event to celebrate but the management staff wasn’t in their best day. I can’t believe witnessing the manager mistreating their employees, and bossing around people to move in the stairs. Now I understand the sad and depressed the girl that was serving drinks inside, probably a clear reflection of the management culture.

They picked up my beer half full from the table and then no one takes the blame, really disappointed that the staff are so mean that they'll just snipe any beer that's half full and then not own up, watch out that your beer doesn't get "picked up accidentally". Honestly really disappointing after a nice night with nice staff.

I visited this small laneway bar on a Saturday night and was blown away by the quality of the cocktails and the friendliness of the staff. While the prices may seem a bit steep at first, they are actually similar to other bars in the area and are well worth it for the quality of drinks and service. Cosy whisky bar in Fitzroy. Extensive range of whisky to choose from with menu separated by region. Bar snacks available were of great portion size. Great service and knowledge of the whisky available. This place also recently won the best whisky bar in Australia for 2024.

Fantastic and very down to earth whiskey bar! No loud din of music, just fantastic drinks in a great atmosphere. The owner is an encyclopaedia of whiskey knowledge, and has a very classical take on his cocktails, which we very much appreciated given how frequently we found other bars in Melbourne appear to be trying to push innovation in order to be different. We brought a non-whiskey drinker in with us, and she was very impressed at the gin and Yuzu cocktail the owner was able to make. The whiskey range is extensive, and there are some really interesting bottles that I definitely plan on returning to try if they're still there.
Luke M — Google review
The Elysian is the best scotch bar in Australia. They have an incredible selection of independent bottles from all over the world. We tried a dozen of different ones and they range from “good” to “amazing”! The bar owners have a vast knowledge and they’re well attuned to customers’ needs. We came twice during our 3-day stay in downtown Melbourne. On our second visit, there were two large groups having tasters and cocktail party, and a handful of patrons meditating on their whisky. Everyone was in their zone enjoying the drinks. Clearly whatever you’re in the mood for, the Elysian delivers.

We dropped in early (after a late lunch). The atmosphere is cozy & the music was spot on. However, the range of whiskys & the knowledge of the staff is second to none. I also highly recommend the very refreshing gin cocktail! (Who knew dry sherry & elderflower tonic could elevate it so much!)

Walk in customer on a Saturday night, very happy with our experience here. Unlike a lot of bars, the drinks come out very fast which I love. Most drams of whisky start from $11 and their selection is impressive, especially Aussie whisky. Plenty of Japanese, Scotch and new world options on offer. Love the size of the place too, small and cozy.

Had an incredible evening in Fitzroy led off with the Elysian Whisky Bar. Great selection of all varieties of Whisky and limited edition bourbons as well. This was the perfect place to stumble upon when you are jonesing for a late night feed and a well made drink! Huge selection of drinks, and the kitchen is open late with a great selection of food! And I really appreciated a good mocktail selection, being pregnant I just wanted to feel like I could treat myself to a fancy drink. The server was very knowledgeable with the drink choices, even the mocktails. I ordered a Negroni Mocktail, and it was everything I wanted it to be! Gave me some semblance of normalcy. My husband had a cafe tequila with a very interesting history which the server explained to us. It's wonderful to see people so passionate about what they do and what they serve to their patrons. They really care about your experience here, and it shows in everything they do. I'm honestly very impressed. For food, we ordered the chicken burger and the raclette cheese starter. Nestled in Russell Place, Black Kite Commune is a moody and intimate bar that exudes a '70s French bistro vibe. The two-level space features wooden paneling, low ceilings, black walls, and a playful birdcage contraption. A captivating lightbox night sky installation adds an ethereal touch to the ambiance. Guests praise the accommodating and effervescent bar staff who offer excellent recommendations for unique cocktails and delicious food from the menu.
Loved the atmosphere at this bar! Lots of drinks options, with a seperate wine and spirits list, plus some great food options. The staff were also incredible with fast service, even on a busy Friday night. Some upstairs seating and some outdoor, this is a cool one to check out.

What an amazing venue. Great spot to unwind after work with couple drinks. First time visit but will certainly become a favourite. Staff are friendly as soon as I walked in the door and continually engaging. Definitely check it out.

Overall was a pretty good experience. The service was friendly, helpful, and prompt in spite of how busy it was. Very unique food options here with a well thought out cocktail menu. The cocktails were yummy. The food we chose (crocodile bites, grilled emu, Wallaby pies) were just ok for me personally but definitely give it a go - maybe they'll suit your tastes more.
Cameron H — Google review
I can’t believe the high reviews for this place, my friends and I were all appalled! The service was so rude and shocking! When we walked in, we were asked to wait for the bartender to finish her drinks. We couldn’t find our own seats. We also have to order at the table and absolutely couldn’t order at the bar. The thing about being upstairs was that we had to go down to the bar anytime we wanted a drink to ask her to come upstairs and take our order. The food menu was different for snacks things and if you want to try random Australian drinks at very high prices some were nice, but we’ll never be back with that service!

Cute spot for a drink. Great wine selection and ambiance. Just around the corner from the hustle and bustle but very serene when you step in

went in here on a whim to get a drink before we went for dinner. Atmosphere was great, with lighting you can change to your preference, food was excellent - kangaroo can be a bit tricky to get right but it was delicious here, and the drinks were both tasty and strong. Staff were lovely. Wil ldefinitely be coming back.

Very unique and interesting Australian wine bar. We came on a rather quiet weekday and were served by a lovely woman who went through all of the dishes and wines. We ended up sharing a bottle of grenache (la petite vanguard) and tasting a lot of the small plates inspired by Australian bush food - grilled emu steak, crocodile bites, wallaby pie. Star of the show definitely the wild boar croquettes. Will definitely be back if ever in Melbourne again!

I think that Black Kite might be the best little bar in all of Melbourne. The drink selection is very well curated and well poured, the food is simply fabulous. The staff are sensational: friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It’s always a pleasure to come here. Well done and thank you Black Kite!

This cozy hideaway specializes in delectable charcuterie boards, mouthwatering burgers, and fresh oysters, all complemented by an impressive selection of craft beers and unique cocktails. With over 700 whiskies lining its shelves, it boasts one of the city's largest whisky collections—an absolute haven for enthusiasts!
A perfect place for all beer lovers, since they specialize in all sorts of beers. The ambience was super chill and the staff highly helpful and friendly too. They do have cocktails as well, although if you are a wine lover maybe try somewhere else.

Excellent selection of rare craft beer and whiskies. Bartender was also helpful and professional. And as the name suggests, they’ve got a good recco of boilermakers. I would go back for a treat cos it is quite pricey.

This is an awesome place for a catch up with friends. I wish we had more people to sit in a booth. So warm, homey and comfy. The sirloin steak was done perfectly as per my wish. I told the bartender I wanted it medium rare but more on the rare side. He couldn't find a good option on the screen, but the steak came out exactly how I liked it!! Absolutely great job he did there⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Went here on a whim and it was a fantastic choice. We were able to get a table without a reservation, the interior is very on theme and it was easy to have a conversation. They have a large variety of beers and whiskey, amongst other things, it’s on the pricier side but that’s to be expected. Tristan was our host and they were fantastic, the top quality service will make me come back here.

This place never fails to disappoint. The drinks list is wide and extensive, but I recommend going for one of the boilermakers; the one I had was the Trademark Turquoise and it was a fantastic pairing. The staff are helpful with suggestions. The food can be a bit of a hit n’ miss. The general vibe and atmosphere is warm and chilled.

Bartender was very kind and knowledgeable on wide array of whiskeys / beers. I came here solo last night and this place made me feel quite welcomed! I witnessed one of the bartenders speaking in sign language to customers and letting them sample some of the craft beers.. it was a lovely sight to see. Definitely recommend this place!

A must do for anyone visiting or living in Melbourne who can appreciate whisky and paired beer. An excellent place for conversations and a relaxed vibe. Plan to spend a couple hundred as a experience, it’s on the upper side compared to a standard bar, but the whisky is amazing and the offering is extremely comprehensive.

Nice place to check out a spiral easy when visiting Melbourne. The bartender made us a local Aussie whiskey fight which was great. We had a boiler maker, the beer was ok. I think I liked LArk in both flight as well as boiler maker. We had gnocchi and laphroig salted fries. They were fine. All in all good for first night in Australia. We had great experience.

Leonards House Of Love is a retro bar housed in a vintage log cabin, offering an extraordinary American menu with specialties like cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and classic sides. The ambiance is adorned with vintage furnishings and cabin decor that exude an awe-inspiring charm. The bustling dog-friendly courtyard and appealing drink specials make it a great spot for gathering and enjoying good conversation over hearty bites.
Really lives up to the Top 5 burgers in Melbourne. Whilst I consider potato martin buns to be the criteria for this ranking, their brioche buns that are slightly charred works perfectly with their textured and juicy beef patties and fried chicken patty. Great tenders but the burgers is where it’s at.
Mel B — Google review
Lovely spot for a date night or to go play some pool, atmosphere was very nice and service great, even too fast! I was looking forward to their burgers because of a friend recommendation. We tried the beef burger which I found it very dry and below average, while I enjoyed quite much the chicken one, very tasty. My absolute favorite were the poutine fries though, would be back just for those. I was rather surprised they have only wood cutlery and no plates at all, which rendered rather hard to share as burgers are served in the paper containers. Overall it wasn’t bad but neither as I expected. May go back to a redeem for their burgers and perhaps to spend a little more time in their nice indoor area.

Amazing food and great vibes. This place truly is a hidden gem! The burgers and chicken tenders were delicious, and I highly recommend trying the tenders and the beyond burger (great texture and tasted like a beef burger). We will definitely be back for more next time we're in Melbourne!

A tucked away place that felt like back home. We made the right decision by ordering three 'mains' to share between the two of us, and even then I was debating adding on their poutine and pie of the day. I'm still salivating and wanting more because the burger bun was perfect and the chicken strips were juicy and the drinks came as quick as we ordered them. The pool table was free to play on a Monday night and the music fit the vibe. Sit by the fire, the bar, the back room, or the two patios outside for whatever you're after. I loved it.

Hands down this double cheeseburger is the best burger I have had!! Juicy, soft, crispy, all the right textures and all the right flavours. Came by today and can't wait to be back!!

I come here quite often and have always loved it (the chicken is bangin). But the last time the short curly haired woman was so incredibly rude . Not only did I see her talking poorly to staff , she also refused to let us keep the heater on - even though it was late in the evening . It was only me and my 4 friends in the area and I was freezing . She marched over , turned it off and told us it was too warm for the heater , when I said I was cold she told me to move inside, it’s not all about me , and other people are wearing T-shirts . There was literally no other people in the area (see photo) . The group of 4 of us ended up leaving after our drink finished instead of staying for a few more as planned . Why be so awful ? How expensive is gas ? This is my friends local spot (goes a couple of times a week) and said she’s been rude to his mates other occasions too…. It’s a real vibe ruiner for such a cool spot .

Good Heavens Rooftop Bar is a stylish retro bar located above Fancy Hanks in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. It offers broad city views and a mix of 1980s-influenced drinks, making it popular for those looking to enjoy American BBQ followed by cocktails or beers among the treetops. The bar has a vibrant atmosphere with staff dressed in floral-print shirts and shaking 80s themed cocktails.
A fantastic spot to catch up with friends over drinks! Whether you go in the afternoon or at night, the rooftop views are great. I love their current winter cocktail menu, the s'mores espresso martini is outstanding, I honestly reckon it's one of the best I've ever had! Good Heavens is 100% worth checking out!

2025: One of the many good choices for a rooftop bar in the city, gets very busy. Tables can be booked, but can get hectic ordering drinks at the bar. Another note, is that they don't serve energy drinks/mixers. ***

Awesome venue, so spacious, lots of room, great for a big group. The staff honestly made my night so much easier, after I had problems with another venue, If I can remember their names Lil and Kiera/Kara?? Were amazing, so accommodating and went above and beyond for me and my group. They sourced chairs and tables for us and genuinely cared about making it a good night for us. Great brisket pies and perfect nibbles for a night out.

Although it is not so high, the night view from the roof is still great. Very friendly staff here. Spacious seating with a shaded open air environment which I felt so comfortable. I was told that I could walk around between the 1st and 2nd floor as they are under the same operator. Awesome.

Nice rooftop bar, we went at around 4:30 PM , it was quite packed with lots of people after work but it hard to walk through the crowd and get to the bar to order. There was no security at the time when we went to heaps of people would walk in and it got really packed. The vibe and the views are beautiful. The drinks are nice and prices are reasonable for any standard rooftop bar. Would recommend if you haven’t been before but keep it mind it can get packed and noisy. Thank you for the experience!

Arlechin is a hidden gem in Melbourne, tucked away in a nondescript laneway with minimal signage. Originally used as wine storage for Grossi Florentino, it has been transformed into a late-night Italian cocktail bar. The menu offers an array of delicious food options such as salumi boards, pasta dishes like the beloved midnight spaghetti, bolognese jaffles, and crumpets topped with whipped baccala.
Loved the cozy vibes and great design of the place. As I don't drink much, I only went for the non-alcoholic mocktails, but they were great too. I particularly liked the 'Elderflower spritz' and the 'Greed'. It was fairly quiet as we were there on a weekday, but the staff were friendly and attentive all evening.

A Melbourne local gave us this recommendation and it simple impressed . This is such a cute , epic , small and intimate venue. Up a laneway, no real signage which makes it cool To find . The food was amazing and the cocktails to match. I can definitely recommend this venue .
Wesley V — Google review
This was our second visit to Arlechin, this time with some friends from Sydney. We stopped in for a few cocktails after dinner and loved it just as much as the first time. Our first visit was a couple of weeks ago after my wife heard about the place from a colleague. We had a couple of cocktails and shared the Jaffle Bolognaise and the Steak Tartare. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The vibe is spot on. It’s got that late-night, tucked-away feel but still has a great energy and atmosphere. Perfect spot for drinks, a snack, or both. We’ll definitely be back.
Ben R — Google review
Tucked away down Mornane Place, just off Bourke and Exhibition, Arlechin delivers a sophisticated and dimly-lit late-night dining and cocktail experience, a perfect spot for a refined after-dark outing . The space seats around 40 and feels like a European wine cellar with its cork-lined vaulted ceiling, hanging lights, and minimalist industrial décor. We arrived for a bite and ordered the steak tartare, which came with fries, a classic presentation that truly hit the mark. It stood out as one of the best versions of tartare in Melbourne, rich, finely seasoned, and beautifully plated. To pair with the food, we enjoyed a cocktail from their creative menu, classics and twists alike like the Puttanesca Martinez and a barrel-aged Negroni, expertly executed by staff and bar manager Russell Branford. The drink added an elegant lift to the meal and complemented the dish perfectly. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, with low lighting, wine-filled glass walls, and a long marble-topped bar lined with illuminated liquor bottles, ideal for groups or a date . Staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming, making tailored food and drink suggestions that elevated the experience. Overall, Arlechin blends excellent food, standout cocktails, and moody, sophisticated vibes into one of Melbourne’s best late-night spots.
Amilliah — Google review
A true hidden gem. The mood lighting sets a refined atmosphere, and the staff’s classy demeanor adds to the overall experience. It’s lively without being noisy, with creative cocktails, boutique beers, and well-informed servers ready to answer any drink-related questions.
Ida N — Google review
Arlechin is a wine bar hidden away down Mornane Place, in Melbourne CBD. It is brought to you by the Grossi Group (Florentino, Cellar Bar, Grossi Bar). 🍷 The intimate, 40-seater space has a moody, underground feel with a curved cork-lined ceiling, intimate lighting and sleek marble bar. The drinks list leans luxe and creative. From barrel-aged Negronis to over 100 wines straight from the Grossi cellar and signature cocktails made with house infused oils and unexpected flavours. They use Kuramoro ice, an extra clear, slow melting Japanese ice made from pure mountain water, which is designed to elevate cocktails without diluting them. 🧊 As for the menu, it's Italian-leaning bar snacks which are refined but approachable. We visited for their Wednesday night $3 oysters and of course tried a few more bites alongside. 🦪 ➖ Oysters Natural ⭐️ Oysters Florentine - creamy delicious ➖ Empanadas - pastry very nice, filling needs more seasoning ⭐️ Steak Tartare - textural and fresh ✔️ Jaffle Bolognese - great bolognese sauce ➖ Tagliarini Cacio e Pepe - fresh pasta and the sauce is great but needs more of it! ➖ Risoni Saffron, Bone Marrow, Pangrattato It’s moody and polished, with a true Melbourne vibe, yet somewhere you can unwind. Its location makes it a perfect spot for a drink and a bite pre-theatre too! 🎭

Tucked away on Swanston Street, Dom's Social Club is a vibrant three-level venue offering an Italian social club experience. The space exudes an old-school charm and features a pizzeria on the first level serving delicious woodfired pizzas made with slow-fermented sourdough. The menu includes classic drinks, top-notch charcuterie, and a stellar wine list focusing on Italian selections.
I probably walked past this place hundreds of times before this time. We were looking for a good pizza place in CBD area. We did a search and this place popped up on google. The reviews seemed pretty decent so we decided to try. We walked in and got a table straight but because we were there super early and were told that we need to leave before 7pm because they have bookings after that time. I strongly recommend you to book in advance if you are thinking to dine in late. Well,Great pizza and delicious side dishes ! Very creative and generous for pizza topping. Keep an eye on special menu. Thin dough, crispy outside and soft inside just like the was we like our Melbourne -style pizza. Flawless for this place. I really recommend for everyone who loves pizza 🍕
Dream S — Google review
Tried the potato skins, stracciatella with bread and the Margherita pizza. The potato skins were cold, super stale and chewy, not crispy and fresh. Felt like it was made in advance and heated up. Not worth it. The stracciatella was flavourful and went well with the bread. The pizza was good with a good flavour from the dough and sauce. Was a little on the small side. Service was ok, friendly at the start and food and drinks delivered quickly after we ordered, but nobody really checked in on us afterwards or asked how things were (including the person who collected our places - strange they said nothing at all), so opportunity to get some feedback was missed. Vibes in the place in general were good.
Brendan — Google review
Cozy and warm, we ate on the first floor dining room. We had the moon bites menu they put together for the 2025 Rising festival - miso braised lamb pizza and chocolate pudding - plus croquettes and deep fried pickled mushrooms. Despite not being oriented towards family dining, they accommodated my child with panache. Service was wonderfully attentive and we never had to raise our hand for anything.
Phlebas P — Google review
Overall, Dom’s has a great vibe - it's almost a pizza speakeasy and is a great place to hide away from the hustle and bustle of Swanston St on a date night or with a small group of friends. The pizza was perfectly cooked, not oily and had great flavour but after having had many pizzas in my lifetime and although delicious, and nothing against it, for the price I wasn't crying tears or exclamations of this is the best pizza in the world. It is essentially a wood fired pizza with most looking identical on the menu except for a change in protein. It is on the smaller side and does take a while to make too, but now I wonder if that's a ploy to ply you with more drinks as a few reviews have said the same thing.. The bar staff were just that, bar staff. Friendly on approach but we didn't experience any table service. Overall, its a pizza worth trying in a pizza place worth seeing and definitely a place to go back to for sure.
Regaleatsmelb — Google review
DOMS has a great vibe. It’s relaxed, a bit lively, and the staff are genuinely lovely. It’s the kind of spot you feel comfortable in straight away. We started with the stracciatella and the tomatoes in ponzu, served separately but both really tasty. The stracciatella was creamy and simple in the best way, and the ponzu tomatoes were fresh, tangy, and a nice palate opener. The ghost pepper salami pizza was a pleasant surprise. The tomato base was flavourful, the salami brought some real heat without going over the top, and the pineapple salsa added a sweet, punchy contrast that actually worked really well. The basil gave it a fresh finish. The crust was good too – lightly charred, with a nice chew and soft centre. We rate it as one of the better pizzas we’ve had in Melbourne recently. All up, DOMS is a solid spot with good food, a nice atmosphere, and we’d happily go back.
Forkin’ O — Google review
Really enjoyed our time at Dom’s Social Club. It’s got three levels—restaurant downstairs, public bar with a pool table in the middle, and a rooftop up top. The restaurant felt a bit formal for what we were after that night, and the public bar was a little quiet, so we settled on the rooftop, which had just the right relaxed vibe. Ordered a couple of Negronis and the mortadella and honey pizza—wood-fired, super tasty, and a little different in a good way. Prices were reasonable, and the whole experience felt easy and enjoyable. Would love to come back and try more of the menu. It’s the kind of place where you could spend a whole night—start with dinner downstairs, shoot some pool, then kick on upstairs. Perfect for when you don’t want to venue-hop.
Amanda P — Google review
Love this place!! It has such a cute cosy first level, a chill hangout second level and a rooftop bar! Pizza is delicious, I recommend the divola! Only upsetting thing is it's no elevator :( meaning no wheelchair or elderly.
Alabama P — Google review
Dom’s Social Club is easily one of the most talked-about spots in Melbourne for anyone craving a quality night out. As soon as you step into Dom’s, the vibe hits you with its multi-level energy: Dom’s packs a cozy pizzeria at the base, a fun public bar on the second floor, and, of course, the show-stopping Dom’s rooftop which offers sweeping views of the city. If you’re a pizza fan, Dom’s delivers with a three-day fermented sourdough base that gives Dom’s pies a signature chew. The toppings at Dom’s swing from classic Italian to delightfully inventive, making Dom’s a place where you can always expect something new. What’s especially memorable about Dom’s is the seamless transition between floors—each level of Dom’s has its own charm, but the overarching Dom’s warmth and friendliness never wavers. Whether you’re seated in Dom’s pool room or sipping Lambrusco on Dom’s rooftop, you quickly realize why Dom’s is frequently suggested for group gatherings or even intimate dinners. The drinks list at Dom’s nods to Italian favorites but brings in a Melbourne twist, and Dom’s is not shy about championing Lambrusco, which they pair perfectly with their pizzas. Dom’s Social Club isn’t just about the food and drinks (though Dom’s pizzas, drinks, and charcuterie are often cited as top-tier). Dom’s rooftop is equipped with weatherproof features to make sure Dom’s is a year-round destination. The atmosphere at Dom’s manages to be upbeat yet chill, a balance that not many venues like Dom’s can strike this perfectly. Even longtime locals find themselves returning to Dom’s, thanks in no small part to the sense of fun and community that marks every night at Dom’s. If you live in Melbourne or you’re just visiting, Dom’s should be near the top of your list—once you experience Dom’s, it’s easy to see why so many consider Dom’s a city essential.

Fable Melbourne is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in the heart of the city. Nestled on the 13th floor of the Greek Community Building on Lonsdale Street, this rooftop gem offers breathtaking views of Melbourne's skyline, including iconic landmarks like the Eureka Skydeck and Bolte Bridge. The menu features a delightful array of Mediterranean-inspired share plates, such as calamari with ouzo mayonnaise and harissa chicken croquettes paired with truffle aioli.
We had a reservation at 8:15 pm but unfortunately arrived almost an hour late. Despite that, the team at Fable was incredibly kind—they called us around 9 pm and even requested the chef to stay back as it was a special birthday celebration. 💛 There was hardly anyone left when we arrived, but the warm welcome we received made us feel so comfortable. The bartender and all the staff were amazing—genuinely kind, attentive, and so thoughtful. I had pre-arranged a cake and some presents to surprise the birthday girl, and the team pulled it off so beautifully. They made her feel so special, and I couldn’t be more grateful. The place itself is warm, cozy, and full of charm. We ended up spending over an hour and a half there just soaking in the ambience and the beautiful service. 🎂🎁✨ Next time, we’ll definitely make sure to be on time so we can enjoy their food too! Thank you to the entire Fable team for making our evening so memorable.

I cannot rate this beautiful place and all the staff more highly. If you haven’t been here, then make it your mission to go! If you are not a coeliac it doesn’t matter you won’t notice the food is gluten free. The atmosphere was sensational the views were pretty and you could talk amongst the table without having to scream. Seriously you need to go to this amazing restaurant and bar. You won’t regret a thing. Thank you guys, you made our night and we will definitely be back again as soon as we can! 💗

The service was exceptional from start to finish. From the service to the food, everything was lovely. Our recent visit to Fable in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD was nothing short of spectacular. We were seated on the rooftop by the window, and the beautiful view down over the city skyline set the mood perfectly. We dined as a group and shared a variety of dishes, cocktails, skewers, risotto, cauliflower, scallops, and bread and dip, and every single item delighted. The cocktails were inventive and well crafted, while the food was flavourful and generous in portion. The risotto was creamy and rich, the scallops perfectly seared, the cauliflower had a brilliant texture and seasoning, and the skewers brought great flavour and presentation. The ambience at Fable is stylish yet comfortable — you feel elevated (literally on the rooftop!) but not out of reach. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and staff made sure everything flowed smoothly. The setting truly felt special for a night out. If you’re looking for a spot in Melbourne to relax with friends, enjoy share plates, sip refined cocktails and soak in an amazing view, Fable ticks all the boxes.

Fable is a great spot for a special night out. We booked a table and enjoyed the set menu for two. The food was absolutely tasty, and the service was excellent—the staff were all so friendly. The ambience is a real highlight, with dimmed lights and stunning city views, especially from our window-side table. It got a little noisy as it was a Friday night, but that's to be expected when everyone's having a good time. Would definitely go back.

Pearl Chablis & Oyster Bar is a charming and intimate dining space located in Melbourne's bustling CBD. It offers an extensive collection of over 500 Chablis wines from all over Chablis and Burgundy, making it a haven for wine connoisseurs. The bar also prides itself on serving Australia's freshest oysters, creating the perfect pairing with their fine varieties of Chablis.
Fabulous environment for oysters, my favourite sydney rocks, with only $6 each, go one dozen for sure. All the entrees are fabulous. French wine, speechless. I’ve ordered everything on the menu plus 2 French wines, total $599 for 3 pax. Great services!

Tucked away on the first floor of the MidCity Centre, Pearl Chablis & Oyster Bar offers an intimate and sophisticated dining experience. After ascending the escalator, I was greeted by a beautifully designed space that exudes elegance and charm. I indulged in a cocktail that was expertly crafted, showcasing a perfect balance of flavors. The highlight of my visit was the ocean trout tartare—delicately prepared and bursting with freshness. While the portion size was modest, the quality and presentation were impeccable, making each bite a delight.
Amilliah — Google review
Just didn’t feel like $500 quality. Food was underwhelming, the flavours were not balanced and lacking. The tartare tasted like hash browns, it could have been on something lighter so you could taste the meat, the anchovies were okay but nothing special. The chocolate tart was over powering. None of these dishes should rely on wine pairing to balance them. It should be perfect every bite. It was quiet so we couldn’t talk properly and it didn’t feel like a private dinner. I suggest playing a bit of music.

We had the BEST meal we’ve had in years here. We did the set menu and matching wines and it was a night to remember. Chef Jess served the most exquisite and elegant dishes - with unique and utterly delicious flavours. It was beautiful elevated food. Luke - our sommelier took us on a journey through Chablis - taking us on a taste sensation and teaching us about the wines and the region as we went. He was absolutely fabulous, entertaining, and his wine selection was incredible. Highly recommend for a fabulous night out. The venue was beautiful and intimate and we will absolutely 100% be back! Thank you Luke and Jess

Emma and the team were awesome! This was a last minute feed before a business event and I got the Claire de lune oysters, caviar sandwiches, and La Perla cocktail. Everything was incredible, amazing food and drinks + an intimate but warm atmosphere that is perfect for me time, or with a few friends. Look forward to returning again soon!

What a little gem this place is. We were blown away by the quality of the new pearl experience tasting menu. Brilliantly prepared by the engaging chef, it was up there with some of the best food we have had in Melbourne. Interesting and delicate and perfectly matched with an elite wine pairing. Great host, great service, great place. A must try!!

Update: the menu got super refined with amazing creativity and superb flavours! One of the cutest wine bars in town. Cosy atmosphere, great service and beautiful menu. The food is exciting, homely, and entertaining at the same time. MUST TRY!

My friends and I visited Pearl Chablis yesterday afternoon and it did not disappoint! Our waiter Jordan was extremely friendly and super attentive. He was also extremely knowledgeable and helped us navigate the through the extensive wine and oyster menu, helping us make our selections. The decor and ambiance were stunning (even the bathroom was lovely)! The oysters were fresh and matched perfectly with our wine and champagne, and the food was super delicious. You must try the caviar sandwich and the poached Murray cod, they were insanely good!

Section 8 is a vibrant open-air bar located in Melbourne, known for its unique setting in an old vacant car park. The bar's staff serve drinks from a converted shipping container, adding to the hipster vibe with graffiti-covered walls and casual seating made of wooden pallets. The place offers a fun atmosphere with DJs, and neighboring Ferdydurke also hosts great music. Additionally, there's a basketball net for entertainment during busy nights. The food menu includes hearty options like burgers and pasta.
Section 8 provides a lively and engaging window into Melbourne's vibrant city life. It's an excellent place to relax with a drink and appreciate the outdoor ambiance and music.

A great place for drink music and fun. Section 8 is located in the bustling China town with so many people. Great atmosphere, nice music and good drinks and cocktails. The place is very local and with lot of people. The drinks are not the cheapest but good atmosphere.
Aravind R — Google review
THE GOOD: The place always has a good vibe, everyone is always chilling out and having fun, the music sets have been great the couple times I've gone, with some good DJs mixing. The staff are pretty nice and are quick with the drinks. 2 drinks were $24 as a rough indicator, so not bad. NOT SO GOOD: People smoke in here, so if you aren't a fan it might annoy you. The toilets aren't great, and the smell does make its way out to the main area, so much so, they have incense burning outside it. You can be waiting a while to get in, I waited 20 minutes as its a small venue and you need people to leave first.
John — Google review
Cool spot in Melbourne downtown for a drink or a night out. I went quite early for an apero as it was raining and I didn’t want to keep city seeing. The place was flagged to me by a fellow solo traveler, who was advised to go there by a local. Loved the hip hop/ rnb tracks in the background. It honestly felt like Williamsburg rather than Melbourne. Nice staff and well heated outdoors. Only cons, not the best quality wine and a bit overpriced, but overall highly recommended.
Alessandra — Google review
I was just strolling in the city and heard this amazing music and went to check it out, I spent one of the best nights in the city here. The vibes were incredible! All types of people! There was a circle of girlies doing hiphop dancing, not a single person was sitting down, the dj had this mix of drums and beats that was impossible not to move and this was a tuesday!!! It was not very crowded so you can still move and dance around. My friend had a rum forrest rum and really liked it. If you want to dance, this is the place!! Is kinda open/garage so the people smoke there, just letting you know in case it bothers you.

Cherry Bar, a legendary and raucous live music venue in Melbourne, has been an iconic part of the city's bar culture for years. After being forced to close its original location on AC/DC Lane, the bar has found a new home on Little Collins Street. Known for hosting local and international rock 'n' roll acts, Cherry Bar has welcomed famous artists like Lady Gaga and Arctic Monkeys.
Had a 12 hour layover in Melbourne before flying back home to NZ so I figured since I'd never been I'd take a bus and give the city a look. Little did I know that I would have one of the most fun nights I'd ever had. Immediately the vibes between the both the lighting and the music we're classic rock and roll. The two Bartenders working that night, Lotus and Corwin we're the absolute best, easy and fun to talk to and helpful in assisting me in picking out what to drink and giving me some music homework to listen to back home! As someone who isn't usually a heavy drinker (and had just had cheap airplane orange juice mere hours before) they made sure to hook me up with some Soda Water so I didn't spill my guts out. Honest to god a 10/10 night and has sold me on going out to bars more often and on Melbourne as a place to live in the future (If the actual walk around the city wasn't enough!) I visited on a Monday and the bar was open til 2pm which is rather crazy to me coming from a country where everything closes at 12 usually. The night started slow but ramped up towards the end with more and more people joining in! I hear that their shows and weekends can get pretty lively and hope to see that myself one day! Already itching to return once I got the cash to visit Melbourne for more than a few hours! until then, 10/10, Best case scenario of getting drunk in a city you don't know is winding up in a place like this!

Was in melbourne on a family trip when it was my 27th birthday. Split of after dinner to check out cherry bar. Caught two live band performances. Great sound, great players, a slowly building crowd. Then at 11pm the britpop themed DJ set started. Packed dance floor, good vibes, busted moves and sang along to tunes for a good 2-3hours (just by myself; but never felt unwelcome or uneasy). Oh did I mention all these gigs were free entry?! I paid $7 for a lager when I went in (fully my choice) and that's it! A memorable night. Thank you Cherry Bar for being quite an awesome accessible space in the heart of melbourne. Cheers! May I come back some time soon with a group of friends as I was lowkey jealous of all the other groups haha

The music in general was very good. The problem was when I opened my mouth and they realized I was Latina and asked me to leave. So, the moral is that if you go and you are a foreigner, especially Colombian, don't open your mouth so they don't kick you out of the bar.

Milly the blonde staff member was very rude & aggressive. Made us feel not welcome at all, even with booths that were paid for. She neglected to give us a reason to kicking us out of the venue early & we felt targeted.

CHERRY BAR IS AGEIST Turns out - after being a loyal customer for 27 years - The Cherry Bar is 100% AGEIST! I was apparently fine but my sober 50-something friend was not. what a croc! Sorry Cherry Bar - but there are plenty of other options - and the lovely people on the door of Morris House next door seemed to like my friend just fine - and rightly so.

A cozy restaurant with a charming atmosphere, it may seem small at first, but opens up to a comfortable mid-sized seating area as you walk further in. The wings were flavorful, though on the smaller side. The pizzas also had a delightful taste, making it a satisfying spot for a casual meal.

We got there at 5pm for a pre "Annie" musical dinner. This place is an amazing surprise. Street front looks like a tiny takeaway. Go through the mysterious black curtain, wow, it's perfect. Small booths, dim lighting and the MOST PERFECT pizza I have ever had. We shared a half and half/seafood and peperoni. It's alot of food for two people, we didn't finish it, but it was brilliant. Will definitely come back. Thank you!

Funky large pizzas with fresh ingredients and fun to share with a group as they are quite large. Fun combinations of toppings with specials. Cool atmosphere with a live DJ playing tunes in the evening. It is a pretty small place though so it can get filled and busy rather easily but take away is still a great option too.

Pizza Pizza Pizza hidden bar is a cozy little spot in Melbourne that serves up delicious pizzas and drinks. The atmosphere is laid-back and intimate, with dim lighting and a speakeasy vibe. The pizzas are the star of the show here, with a range of creative toppings and crispy, thin crusts that are cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven. The drinks, on the other hand, are just okay. While they have a decent selection of cocktails and beers, they're not particularly memorable or outstanding. That being said, the prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and attentive. Overall, I would recommend Pizza Pizza Pizza hidden bar for its tasty pizzas and cozy atmosphere. However, if you're looking for exceptional drinks, you may want to look elsewhere.

I've been meaning to get to this gem for many moons, and after a few failed attempts and losing hope that it would happen at all (Gerald's Bar is moving to its new home on Lygon St soon...) - I MADE IT! Worth wait/disappointed it took me so long, and that I waited until I moved out of Carlton North. Vibe = immaculate. Coffee = rich and strong. Olives = aplenty. Service = friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. Can't wait to take someone on a date to the new Gerald's Bar down the track... 11/10 ✨️🍝🍷

Gerald’s - one of Melbourne’s iconic institutions! Heard so much about this place before my bum got to touch one of their seats but I can honestly say the wait was definitely worth it & the hype surpassed any & all expectations I may have had. Lucky for me - I had none when I went so I was blown away! Impeccable service, superb atmosphere & vibes, great food (oysters & the rhubarb/lemon myrtle tarte - SPEECHLESS! OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD - will have them every time I go back type shit) & outstanding staff who are friendly & knowledgeable. Most importantly they’re happy, aren’t run off their feet & stressed which means they can focus on delivering great service. Superb recommendations & easily slid into my top 5 bars!!! Sadly no pics because I didn’t need to be on my phone - being there was everything! Thank you Gerald’s!

I live within a drop kick and was putting the bins out and heard the hue, so I dropped in on their second night after the big refurbishment from the old Enoteca Sileno. Meagan is a superstar who organised a stool for me at the very busy bar from the front desk. Then asked me what I fancied, and put the order through. What a great start. Your man behind the jump was super friendly, but after one drink I thought I better put out the other bins. I could have easily stayed. A great vibe. Its the kind of hospitality from a forgotten era, or maybe what we all crave: attentive and talkative staff, happy to have a chat. Gee I was impressed!

i went with a friend for dinner and drinks. the wine selection was great, and the food was white good (although the barramundi wasn’t properly scaled). the one relatively minor complaint we both had was that the food came out too fast! we had four different dishes on the table, plus bread, at one stage. not only was the table overcrowded (making it difficult to actually pick up and transfer the food to our plates), but it meant some of our warmer dishes sat on our table and cooked down while we were finish the dishes before them, and our dinner went by more quickly than we would have liked. if the pacing of the dishes was adjusted, the experience would have been borderline perfect.
Ben S — Google review
Great Food, Great atmosphere. Only complaint is they say you can’t book, but when you walk in you can still be given a table at the back and walk past all the good tables that are empty. Doesn’t make sense. How do people get the good tables if they arnt booking?

This is a hidden gem! Very busy tho with a lot of walk-in customers. Absolutely loved their home made dishes and chill vibe. From a simple house pickled vegetables to roasted pumpkin, it’s just perfect. We had red wine, it’s was nice and smooth, recommended by the friendly staff. Food’s a little bit pricy but with very classy set up and good taste, worth the value. Will come back to visit again.

A truly one-of-a-kind bar experience! The space is intimate and full of character, with thoughtful decor and a warm, welcoming vibe. What sets this place apart is the limited rotating drink menu—each visit feels like a fresh adventure. Every cocktail is crafted with creativity and precision, offering bold, unexpected flavor combinations that always impress. The bartenders are passionate and knowledgeable, happy to share the inspiration behind each creation. It’s clear this bar values quality, originality, and atmosphere. A hidden gem that keeps things exciting—no two visits are ever the same. Absolutely a must-visit for cocktail lovers!

It’s truly a hidden gem in Chinatown. The drinks were not only well-crafted but also impressively creative. Of course, this comes at a slightly higher price compared to other bars. We each ordered three drinks and we all agreed that the Mango Sticky Rice cocktail was a standout. It was surprisingly good and memorable. The atmosphere felt like stepping into another dimension. Dark, mysterious, and immersive. The staff were exceptionally polite and professional. For instance, when I stepped out to the restroom, one of them thoughtfully placed my drink in the fridge to ensure it remained at the perfect temperature until I returned. Overall, while this bar is on the pricier side, it’s well worth experiencing at least once, especially for a special occasion or a romantic date night 💕

Typical Melbourne where the best bars are hidden, One or Two is an example of that. Located off Lt Bourke, opposite Supper Inn. Quite nondescript so you may not know what you’re looking for. Once you find it though you’ll be transported to a cosy bar with a tight menu - some items are fixed but there are a few rotating ones. Great for small groups or solo drinkers looking for a tipple.

My partner and I found One or Two through Google and it turned out to be the perfect spot for us! The space is small and intimate which is ideal for couples. The ambience was cozy, and the drinks were unique and seasonal, with some great permanent options too. The menu isn’t your usual bar fare, which made it even more interesting. A little pricey, but totally worth it for the experience.

Amazing. Went there for dinner with some wines and will definitely coming back. Prices were super reasonable for something a little more fancier. The focaccia is INSANE. I got my oasta vegan and was delicious too. Loved our orange wines. The guy serving us was super friendly and nice! Thank you ☺️

I will always keep coming back to Hope St. I’ve been a number of times now, and somehow, it just keeps getting better. Whether it’s a date night, a celebratory dinner with friends, or just an excuse to treat yourself mid-week — this spot delivers every single time. One of the things I love most is how the menu constantly changes. It’s small and seasonal, which means everything they serve is intentional, thoughtful, and absolutely delicious. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever had a bad bite here — and that’s saying something. Their $60 set menu is one of the best value offerings in Melbourne: generous, vibrant, and packed with flavour (plus yes, it includes oysters and focaccia, which are obviously essentials). The interiors make the experience even more special. Housed in the Collingwood Yards precinct, the venue captures that perfect balance of relaxed and refined. The playful coloured artworks on the walls give it a creative edge, while the soft, moody lighting keeps things intimate and atmospheric — especially at night. There’s just something about Hope St Radio that feels effortless, but also incredibly well done. I love it here — and I don’t think I’ll ever stop going.

SO GOOD! Went for dinner before a gig at the Tote last week. Have been wanting to visit for awhile, and they didn't disappoint! As a GF girl, can be tricky sometimes on options, but that's not the case at Hope St! GF options or alternatives for almost every dish on their menu (except for their focaccia, which my husband LOVED) it smelled amazing! We had the focaccia (not me just hubby) the ricotta & tomatillos and both pasta dishes running that night, greens pasta & a slow cooked pork - the green past was sooooo buttery and delicious! Both with GF pasta - which was realllllly good for GF! Great range of drinks, really great service & overall fun/laidback vibe, there was also a few DJs spinning decks. Will be back for sure!

Been meaning to eat here for ages. I came once for drinks and told myself I’d come back for food—and finally did. Booked a table for 12 last Saturday for my birthday (yes, I’m that person). Honestly, I was impressed. Having worked in hospitality before, I know feeding 12 hungry gremlins is no small task, but the team handled it like pros. We got the $60 set menu. Some hits, some misses. I’m still not sure what they were trying to achieve with the anchovy in tomato water situation. I get that anchovy is salty (that’s the whole point), but pairing it with salty focaccia? Felt like I was being seasoned from the inside out. Pasta was where it’s at though. The pork rigatoni and the silverbeet one were both chef’s kiss. Cooked al dente, sauced up properly… like someone actually tasted it before sending it out. Dessert was solid too, and the wine list is stacked. The real MVP of the night was Alice. Absolute legend. Super friendly, knew the menu and wine inside out, and let us linger past our two-hour slot without making it weird. She even laughed at our chaotic table banter. Queen energy. Honestly, this place is a vibe. Food’s tasty, wine’s flowing, and if your sodium levels are low, they’ve got you covered. Would definitely come back, next time with a smaller group so I can hoard more food and try the other dishes without sharing.

Romantic little bar with a 4 pairs of outside seating in this small lane behind the bar. Oldies song was played inside which makes the bar sound classy. I came here twice. First round, with chef's selection which did not leave strong impression. Second round, selected food from the menu and it was so delicious! Recommend to order food separately and not go through chef's selection.

Outstanding dining experience at Bomba Tapas Bar & Rooftop! The service was friendly, attentive, and perfectly paced. We loved every dish — especially the slow-cooked lamb shoulder with anchovy and rosemary, crispy roasted potatoes with aioli, and chargrilled broccolini with romesco. Each plate was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The team recommended a fantastic local red wine, PaPa, which paired perfectly with the meal. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and genuinely warm hospitality — Bomba is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Spanish tapas done exceptionally well.

Good delicious Spanish food. Worth the trip. Very convenient if you are attending a show etc nearby. Need to book to ensure you have a table. Flavors are well balanced n subtle use of herbs n spices. Service was impeccable n this is one of the few restaurants that change the plates after the tapas n montaditos. And the olive oil served for the bread was really high quality

The servers are v helpful in translating the dishes and the quantities for you. There were limited vegetarian options. I ordered the corn and a sweet potato dish and they both turned out great.

Lovely rooftop bar! The highlight was that it wasn’t busy at all, FINALLY a place not overcrowded on a Friday evening! The service was amazing too. Thanks to the waiter who recommended me a great local wine.

Everything about this place was just perfect! Me and my friends dined in on a Sunday night, the restaurant itself is super cosy and made us feel comfy and welcomed. Food, 10 out of 10, we had to gasp on every single dish! Also our server Em was THE SUPERSTAR!! She was hands-on, gave us some amazing recommendations, suuuper friendly and helpful 🥰 We chose the wine she recommended us, which paired perfectly to what we ordered and we had to order a second bottle cuz it was unreal. Me and my friends found our new favourite wine now🍷 We really appreciated everything and definitely would go back ❤️

This was our first time and certainly won't be our last. The food, drinks and service were excellent. The food was delicious, and we really enjoyed the Spanish flavours. There's an excellent choice of drinks. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food. We had a great experience. Thank you. Another added benefit is if you arrive before the restaurant opens, there's a rooftop bar upstairs.

Trinket Bar is a trendy and stylish venue in Melbourne, offering a variety of share plates, pizzas, wine, beer on tap, and creative cocktails. The bar boasts an enticing secret entrance that leads to a luxurious space with velvet curtain-covered walls, plush lounges, and candlelit tables. It offers superb quality cocktails alongside cold craft beers, a generous selection of wines, and delicious pizzas and small sharing plates.
🌟 Hidden gem alert! 🌟 I recently visited Trinket Bar on Flinders Lane, and it’s an absolute vibe! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with vintage charm, cosy corners, and a hint of mystery that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another era. Their new Trinket Travel cocktail menu is amazing – each drink is like a little journey around the world. 🌍 I loved how they’ve balanced bold Asian spices, comforting North American warmth, and tropical South American twists. Every sip was crafted to perfection! The share plates were spot on too – great flavours and perfect for sharing with friends. Plus, the luxe speakeasy atmosphere and attentive staff made the whole experience feel special. If you’re looking for a unique spot to unwind, enjoy great cocktails, and soak in some seriously cool vibes, Trinket Bar is a must-visit! 🍹✨

I recently visited Trinket Bar during happy hour and was thoroughly impressed. The ambiance is a delightful blend of vintage charm and modern elegance, creating a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. I started with an espresso martini, which was expertly crafted—smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. For a bite, I chose the beef tartare, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The combination of quality ingredients and meticulous preparation was evident in every bite. One of the most intriguing aspects of Trinket Bar is its hidden cellar bar, accessible through a wardrobe—a nod to classic speakeasy style. Stepping through the wardrobe reveals a secret space that adds an element of adventure to the evening. It's a unique feature that enhances the overall experience. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, contributing to the welcoming environment. Whether you're looking for expertly mixed cocktails, delicious food, or a unique setting, Trinket Bar delivers on all fronts. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a memorable night out in Melbourne.

Trinket Bar is a trendy place to duck into for a cocktail or two before seeing a show. I'd recommend booking as it can get busy. You can make a reservation for cocktails only without needing to order food (although the cured meat plate as pictured is great), which is convenient!

Trinket Bar – Melbourne Visited Trinket Bar during happy hour and was genuinely impressed. The space has that perfect blend of vintage charm and modern elegance — cozy, stylish, and full of character. I started with an espresso martini, which was beautifully made — smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. For food, I ordered the beef tartare, which was fresh, full of flavour, and plated with real care. You can tell the team takes pride in using quality ingredients and presenting dishes that taste as good as they look. The hidden cellar bar behind the wardrobe is such a clever touch — stepping through it feels like discovering a secret world straight out of a speakeasy. It adds a sense of fun and adventure to the night and really sets Trinket apart from other bars in Melbourne. Service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about both the menu and cocktails. Whether you’re after a well-crafted drink, a bite to eat, or a unique spot to impress friends, Trinket Bar delivers on every level. Highly recommend for a memorable evening out in the city.

Went to Trinket for a couple of cocktails to kick start our anniversary and it was absolutely the best choice. The smoked beetroot that we had for a snack was one of the most delicious beetroot dishes I have ever had. There are a few very good vegan options available. The cocktails were interesting and delicious. More traditional cocktails are also on the menu or just ask. Service was top notch. Our wait staff made us feel very special and we were very well looked after. The atmosphere reminded me of a classy NYC bar. A lot of attention was given to the decor. Music was tasteful and not loud which made conversing easy. This would make an excellent date night location. Our first visit and definitely not the last - we will be back to work through the rest of the menu!

Popped in here for some birthday drinks and it’s was a classy and romantic place to go. We ordered a few cocktails and had a wonderful evening chatting the night away. You can tell a good cocktail bartender by the way they make their Long Island ice teas and the ones we ordered were made with perfection! The waiter was so lovely and nice and he gave the birthday boy a free drink in the house! Definitely a place to drop in with friends or with a special someone.

Had the pleasure of dining here over the weekend and was genuinely impressed by the exceptional service provided by Jody Jou and his supervisor, Rhys. Both were incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable—especially when it came to recommending cocktails, each one unique and expertly crafted. I was so impressed that I returned later with my girlfriend to try the food menu, which did not disappoint—every dish was delightful. Overall, I’d rate my experience a solid 10/10. I’ll definitely be back!

Trinket bar is a really cool fancy/fantasy like atmosphere complete with its own hidden secret room for a special event. The staff were on-top of everything and because we all had different dietary requirements we were served our own pizzas! My goodness it was a feast! We were very well looked after. The non alcoholic drinks and the cocktail I had was delicious 😋 I highly recommend Trinket if you love themed bars!! Thanks guys, you are amazing!!
