As an Engineering student, I’ve seen firsthand how unfair the peer review system is. Group work at UWE is supposed to promote collaboration, but it’s become a showcase of the university’s lack of real values. Honestly, I have no idea how some people in that department even got there, the entry standards are embarrassingly low. Instead of focusing on supporting the students who are already here, UWE seems obsessed with bringing in as many new ones as possible. The quality of teaching has clearly dropped, and it feels like some lecturers are only kept around out of pity. It’s no surprise the university is ranked so poorly. the decline is obvious. It’s genuinely shocking. Stay away at all costs.

My experience at UWE Bristol was extremely disappointing, especially as an international student from Egypt studying Year 1 of the BSc in Architectural Technology and Design. Despite putting in consistent effort and working harder each time, I was failed in a module unfairly. When I asked for support, a remark, or even basic guidance, my requests were ignored. Emails went unanswered, and I felt there was no genuine academic support available. The consequences were devastating — failing one module delayed my progression to the next academic year and even blocked me from registering for the following September intake. This wasted valuable time and made it impossible to continue my degree smoothly. The financial burden was also severe. As an international student, my family worked incredibly hard to afford the expensive tuition fees, in addition to the high costs of transport and accommodation. To spend that level of money on a degree pathway that seems designed to keep students failing — no matter how much work they put in — is deeply unfair and disheartening. And also as a student who faced repeating year twice in his country and went to UK hope for the seek of help to graduate faster and been through a physical and mental crisis in his life My accommodation experience at Mendip Court further added to the negativity. I faced poor treatment and disrespect from some students and flatmates, which made my personal life difficult on top of academic stress. I came to UWE expecting quality education, fairness, and support. Instead, I left with wasted time, wasted money, and a sense of being undervalued both as a student and as a person. Higher education should empower students and recognise their efforts — sadly, UWE Bristol did the opposite in my case.”

It is a lovely place to study and all the staff do their best to meet the expectation. It is a great honour to study here and work here as well. UWE is a home far from home

!!!!!Before choosing this university, make sure you do your research, ESPECIALLY if you require ADDITIONAL SUPPORT!!! My time at this university was extremely disappointing and, frankly, a waste of £20,000 and two years of my life. I started my degree with clear concerns about my academic needs, particularly essay writing, and was assured that proper academic, housing, and pastoral support would be provided. Unfortunately, these promises were not kept. From the outset, I requested additional academic help and was assigned a support tutor. By Christmas of my first year, I was told I had already used my allocated 8 hours of support and would need to join a waiting list of over 300 students for any further assistance. For someone who was transparent about their needs, this was incredibly discouraging. Housing was another major issue. While most students were placed in flats with people on the same course or with similar interests, I was put in a block where no one studied my subject. To make matters worse, I received a final warning for a fire alarm incident caused by a faulty oven—something I had reported when I moved in. Financially, things were no better. Despite being close to qualifying for additional funding, I only received the minimum amount, forcing me to work 25 hours a week just to afford basic living costs. The university also repeatedly misadvised me about funds and schemes I was supposedly eligible for, leading to multiple rejections and unnecessary embarrassment. The lack of support and the stress of working long hours took a toll on my mental health. I failed my first year, and although my parents met with the Vice Chancellor and were given apologies and promises of change, none of this materialized. Even after being asked to share my story directly with senior staff, my follow-up emails were ignored. When I repeated the year, support was virtually non-existent apart from the occasional meeting with the course leader, who was the only real positive throughout this entire experience. By February, I felt I was heading for another failure and made the very difficult decision to leave. Now, I’m £20,000 in debt with nothing to show for it other than “we’re sorry we couldn’t help.” Before choosing this university, make sure you do your research. I later discovered that it has one of the highest depression rates among UK universities, which sadly doesn’t surprise me. My experience was a complete letdown, and I would strongly advise anyone considering this university to think very carefully before committing.
