The staff really make the hotel shine. Everyone was friendly. They seemed to go out of their way to make our stay memorable. We stayed on a spa offer that included dinner. Holly and Luke in the restaurant on the 2 nights we were there made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel like VIPs. Haydyn was super helpful at the front desk. Great, convenient location with plenty of parking. Nice swimming pool with sauna, steam room, jacuzzi. Nice, well equipped gym. The rooms are very nice although the bathroom we had was a little dated maybe, but not the end of the world clearly. We didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evenings but breakfast everyday was lovely with a large selection of hot and cold items to suit all tastes. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful throughout the stay. The hotel itself is in good condition and well presented. Both of us went for the pink salt scrub, it was a 50 minute treatment but both of us only actually received 30 minutes HOWEVER it was lovely and we would both opt for that again. The changing rooms are small so getting washed and changed afterwards is a bit of a cramp. Would absolutely recommend the spa and we will both be back again in the future!

The hotel is very conveniently located for the M57 and is 25 minutes drive from Liverpool city centre by car or around 40 minutes by bus. It's also close to Whiston railway station which has a regular service to Manchester and Liverpool. The rooms are clean and comfortable with the usual tea/coffee facilities and ensuite bathroom. The swimming pool is lovely and warm with a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which was great to relax in. Breakfast is served in the adjoining pub and this is where it let itself down a bit on our stay. There weren't many staff members on duty and this meant table cleaning was being done as often as it could have been, we came down around 08:00 and struggled to find a clean table to sit at. The pub isn't huge and there was a conference taking place with the delegates having breakfast at the same time which led to a shortage of tables. Overall the hotel is fine for an overnight stay to use as a base for exploring the area or business.

We were there for one night just because we wanted to experience the spa. The spa is okay, including a sauna, steam sauna, ice room rasul, a quiet room and launge room if you want ti have a brew. We were offered a tour before and the receptionists explained everything that we needed to know. The lockers were functional and we had robes, slippers and towels inside. You can only stay for two hours but the pool is open until 9 pm and you can also find a sauna and a steam room. The jacuzzi's were not functional but the pool was nice with warm water. I gave five stars for the service as the employees were very friendly and ready to help. The restaurant was okay wit resonable prices considering the huge portions of food. What we didn't like is the level of noise as the windows are very old and you can hear the noise from the cars. We have struggled to close a window and we were surpised to see that on the hallway near the elevator a window was open as it didn't have a handle. The room was clean but you can easily notice that the hotel needs a serious upgrade as everything looks old. The location is a little bit isolated so you cannot do much. I suppose for us was okay as we went there for spa but we didn't sleep well at all. We do want to thank the staff for their service and effort though.

The rooms and reception were lovely. Reception staff very friendly. We did have some issues -the hair dryer didn't work [we reported] - we booked a twin room but we're given a double and had to move rooms 3 times, meaning I went back and forth around 4 times and we didn't get to check in whilst 3.30pm when we got there at 3. - I would say I think it was just bad luck though, the staff were shocked at the error and were incredibly kind and resolved the issues quickly. But what let it down was the food area. We were sitting for nearly 20 minutes without service, and then when it finally came the food was extremely bland and my stew was actually not heated correctly leading to issues the next day. If I were to go again, I would not recommend the food place. It brings the whole hotel down from 5* to 3/4* which is significant. The hotel staff were lovely though. But the bar and restaurant staff 100% need either more workers or more training. One was very unfriendly and told us to "seat yourself". Me and my mum had come here as I'm unwell and she doesn't get to see me often so the special moment of having a meal with my mum was kinda sullied by the dinner and evening. We usually tip too, I think its the first time we have ever not tipped.

Staff are kind and friendly. Breakfast was decent and enough choice for fry- up and continental. Good range of plant-based milk and some vegetarian options available which was a plus. Sofa bed was absolutely awful. However, the main bed was lovely, comfortable and spacious. Shower didn’t work so we changed rooms. The maintenance man was very hard-working and fixed TV and we could see he was in demand! Swimming pool and gym are decent facilities. But the cleanliness in both places is very poor. No sanitary spray or wipe down facilities in gym, sweaty equipment is just reused by multiple people. Pool changing rooms, smell mouldy and damp. Floor was dirty full of hairs and dirt. no shoe covers available so muddy footprints/ hairs everywhere. One of the Jacuzzi’s was not working and taped off, steam room was good. All in all, this hotel could be really great with significant investment and re-modernisation and better practices in cleanliness and hygiene with the leisure facilities. Some areas really let the hotel down. I must say, staff were always very lovely and helpful and efficiently dealt with issues raised to them. I’d also say especially thanks to the staff at breakfast, who i saw work so exceptionally hard to keep everything replenished and keep the breakfast running so smoothly. They’re so hardworking and wonderful and its the staff that I gave the stars to, not the hotel.

I’ll start with the positives the hotel room was nice, decent parking, breakfast was fine. Upon arrival they had no booking for us to use the spa which the staff member made known that they squeezed us in but no availability for any treatments. The spa experience was basically steam room, sauna and a pool everything else advertised closed. Changing rooms high potent urine smell and filthy. Foot spa out of order and looked like it hadn’t been used in years, jacuzzi was closed for cleaning and according to a family who had been there a couple of days advised it had been shut for 4 days. Coffee machine they promote in the relaxation room the hot chocolate was out of use and the mocha and the cups looked like they had never been washed. The ice room had no ice insight and was practically a room with air con on. Me and my partner had travelled an hour to get here and we could have got a better spa day at our local gym who provides the exact same amenities. Very poor experience and wouldn’t recommend it.

Our room was much, much smaller than we’d anticipated and was very noisy due to being next to the road but having nothing to absorb the sound. If you stay, it is worth noting that from 7.30am the road sounds will keep you awake so it is very hard to sleep past this point. I raised this with the hotel who suggested to stay on a week night in the future as it is apparently quieter. Perhaps I was naive to expect a good nights sleep for a £400+ stay. The staff were rude and unwelcoming but the location is good. I would not recommend this hotel though as there are others nearby who seem to be up to a much better standard. Definitely do not stay if you want a good nights sleep, you’d be better off in a Premier Inn!

Walking in was beautiful, all the dedication to players everywhere was lovely even the corridors shown tributes, and then it just stops when you enter the room. AC didn't work, wallpaper hanging off in separate places, only one window would open. Quite laughable that we had to make a cup of tea putting the kettle on the floor as it was the only socket that reached the kettle. Positive was the spa bath but that's it, noisy from the road all night, door would bang and rattle loudly whenever someone else entered the corridor or room. I loved all the nod to shankly it was beautiful just wish the room was as luxury as was described when booked. Room did include an iron/ board, tea & coffee making products. Would i recommend, it is central and easy to access but I personally wouldn't stay again and that upsets me as I really wanted this to be a 4* luxury and im leaving feeling a little deflated.

I've been nicely surprised how clean and tidy it's the city in this area. The architecture was nice as well. Now, inside this beautiful location I've been invited to attend the GoOutdoors Product Lunch 2023. Staff was very polite, comunicative and friendly, even the security team as well. They ware very supportive if you needed any guidance or assistance. We've been in 3 different locations inside this building. Every room was well illuminated, good quality sound and clean. Apart from the entrainment side of it, several well known hotel chains, the big wheel, Echo Arena, Exhibition Center all lumped meters from each other,the views are fantastic an a photographers paradise, cyclist haven and popular with walkers and joggers. Free Mini bar was great and the curtain through to the bathroom made the room feel much bigger. Comfy beds and the coffee was lovely. Hair dryer and ironing facilities in the room. Beds were very uncomfortable with no padding on mattress. Pillows were flat. Towels and bedding were thin and not soft. We had a king bed which was two twin beds pushed together. The staff were great. The reason for three stars on service was not the staff but the food. The breakfast was terrible, give it a miss. We went for breakfast about half nine, the breakfast stops serving at ten. I would expect the same standard of food no matter what the time. Took pic of TV as bezel cracked, same as TV in room I stopped in last time, pic taken as don't want to be charged for damage already present. Reported issues upon leaving, person I spoke to confirmed that they will look into sink not draining. Overall, a decent stay and despite these minor issues, I will use again.

This time I travelled with my 7 year old son and I cannot recommend it enough. From booking to leaving for home the staff at the resident couldn’t have done more for us. I requested a ground floor room as my son won’t go into lifts and this request was accommodated with no issues. The staff were so welcoming when we arrived. Our flight was early which meant we had hours to wait before our room was ready. The lovely lady at reception made me a cup of tea and my son a hot chocolate while we waited. Then we got our room which was ideal as we were going to an event at midday and wanted to freshen up. When we got into our room I was delighted with how clean and welcoming the room was. The staff had also left a card for us with a lovely message inside. After a long day we then got back to the hotel and enjoyed some complimentary drinks while we rested. In the morning my son ordered a glass of milk from reception which again was no trouble. We then checked out and left our bags for the day while we explored. When we finally returned to collect our bags we were again met with such kindness from the staff who gave us another lovely tea and hot chocolate before we had to leave. It was a wonderful stay from start to finish and I can’t wait to return.

Of course, because it was last minute, all the other options were very expensive so I accepted the ‘other property’ offer after he sending some photos of it. It was the 30 James St Hotel. What a regret! The place was the same on the photos but in terrible conditions. ALL the windows didn’t open. No air conditioning. One small fan. Carpet everywhere including the walls, making the room even more stuffy and mite friendly. We spent 4 nights there and not ONE DAY they came to do our beds, pick up the trash, change towels… nothing! Our room happened to be located after 2 fire doors what made even less air come to our room. Bathroom did not have any type of curtain to keep the bathroom dry after a showered. When I asked at the reception, they gave us one more small fan and said that the windows were closed for safety. Looking from outside, we saw some windows broken so the air could get in. Afterwords, this review is not only from this property exactly but is about the whole experience with this hotel management and I thought it was important to share.

I went to the rooftop bar which is a beautiful place to sit if u want to actually converse with who you’re with 😂. My 5 stars though is actually for the new owner because as we were leaving we just happened to walk through and be cheeky and walk through to the hall or and it was fab. We learned the place has just been taken over and I am not sure if the lady we spoke to was the owner but I appreciated her. Me and my friend was saying the hotel has so much histiry and the last owners destroyed it as I know many people won’t know it’s there however they now have someone who wants to bring back a building and glorify its history and take full advantage of the building again for what it is and represents instead of just making a fast buck. I will recommend this place as it’s a part of our history and poeple forget where things started. It was a pleasure to talk to someone who wanted to restore it and bring it forward in today’s world but holding onto the fab history of why it was built in the first place. Amazing to see someone trying to incorporate our past and utilise on it rather than just take over a building for their own pocket. People buy buildings like this and think they are gonna make money of the back of why it was built and the heritage but forget to keep the legacy alive and don’t value its worth so they destroy a place, we lose a part of why we r Liverpool and then they lose business as we don’t give it the same value due to the owner making it not worth it. This hotel and rooftop bar I feel is on the turn around and will and should be thriving once again. Well done for wanting to own a part of something and restoring its reaon for being there. I possibly lucked out with a room on the sixth floor, as I had an amazing panorama from my bed opposite the window. Room was modern, shower was excellent, toiletries were excellent, open storage was excellent. There was a small area by the sink that the cleaner had missed, and the TV didn't work, but I wasn't bothered by these points and it didn't detract from the overall experience. I've deducted a star for the disappointing breakfast. Coffee was bitter, scrambled egg was made up from powdered judging by the texture, bread was stale. They had run out of hash browns, my favourite hotel breakfast treat. The hot offering had no vegetables (would have expected tomatoes and mushrooms) and no vegetarian option eg veggie sausages. There is a evident mold issue in the rooms. You can see it all around the rim of the shower floor, in the grouting, and even the water holder in the coffee machine! We cleaned the water holder ourselves and informed reception but nothing was done about it (we have not drank coffee out of the machine). There is no working extraction fan and you can't open any of the windows, so after a shower the room smells and remains damp and musty. Due to design of shower the floor floods with water. The fire alarm has gone off twice during our stay, both during earlier hours of the morning and both were false alarms- not great! Wasn't given wifi details on check in or in room, had to ask reception. Seems like a basic thing a 4 star hotel should provide on arrival. As for the room, harsh lighting in bathroom area and then hardly much over the main bedroom area.The phone in the room is not intuitive, couldn't ring reception from it and kept beeping so we unplugged it in the end. The three saving graces: located in a beautiful building, good central location, and some of the staff are nice. Unfortunately won't be staying again. It's been the poorest experience I've had staying at a Marriot hotel.

Traveling with a 16-month-old and our dog can sometimes feel overwhelming, but the staff here made everything effortless and truly special. Kelly, Pippa, Erin, and Dan were absolutely incredible—so attentive, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. They went above and beyond to make our little boy feel happy and comfortable (no small feat with a toddler!) and were just as welcoming to our dog, who was treated like part of the family. I stayed in the water feature room, it comes with an inflatable lilo instead of a bed. The smell am told was designed by Liverpool city council. Will definitely stay there again but I’ll bring my armbands and my red David hasslehoff shorts. I highly recommend going in the street behind the hotel to see the meteor strike. 👌🏻

Decent sized room with a great view. The room was quiet & clean apart from a plastic water bottle which was on the floor next to the sink & had been left by the previous guest. No carpet which always makes the room feel cleaner. Mini bar with complimentary soft drinks. Plenty of sockets next to the bed & near a mirror. A large car park nearby which guests can gain a discount for. Cons I received no reply to the two emails I sent asking if the three rooms we had booked could be close together & disappointingly we were on different floors. I asked again when we checked in but was told no. The key fob for your room won't allow you to access other floors so when we wanted to meet in one of the rooms for a drink, we had to all meet in the lobby first then go back to one of the rooms. I appreciate this is a security measure but if my emails had been acknowledged, we could have been on the same floor & avoided this faff. The shower is in the bedroom rather than in a separate bathroom so if you're sharing with a friend, it's not private at all. The air con was not working properly when we stayed (which we reported to reception) so the rooms were extremely hot.

It's just far enough from all the "action" downtown - walkable within about 10 minutes - but after the music, you can return to a quieter part of town to actually sleep. Even worse, during two of the nights, around 4am, someone was banging on doors, trying door handles, and shouting “Owen.” This was frightening and hugely disruptive, making it impossible to feel safe or comfortable in the room. Combined with the lack of staff presence and security, this created a genuinely unsafe environment for guests. Additional Concerns • Basic facilities unavailable: On Saturday evening around 9pm, no drinks were available because their iPad system was down. No alternative was offered. • Security risks: Doors to the property were left wide open with no staff or security on site. Strangers were able to walk in freely, making the environment unsafe. • No staff presence: Reception was unattended throughout my stay, leaving guests without assistance. The combination of misleading advertising, undisclosed refurbishment, substandard room conditions, and serious safety incidents makes this hotel a place I cannot recommend to anyone. I have requested a full refund and compensation for the health, safety, and comfort issues I endured and will be escalating this matter through booking platforms and consumer rights authorities.

Over the years, the ownership has changed hands three times. This most recent stay was under Malacuna’s management. The rules and way of operating are now different, and I have to say that in my experience, Selina ran it best, with a more hotel-like approach to guests. This time we were given a ground-floor room, which was fine, but it wasn’t as nice as previous stays and had no view at all. The room had some maintenance issues: holes in the door, dirty fingerprint stains, and other dirt marks. The shower door didn’t close properly, which led to water leaking onto the floor. One improvement this time was the towel system – since we booked a private room, towels were already in the room on arrival. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we appreciated being able to store our luggage securely while we travelled to Liverpool for two days.
