Ohori Park is a serene city park in Fukuoka, Japan, offering a peaceful escape with its large lake and waterfront exercise paths. The park is situated on the grounds of the old Fukuoka Castle, featuring remnants of the castle and a tranquil pond that was once part of the moat system. Visitors can explore three small interconnected islands within the pond via charming bridges. Known for its scenic beauty, Ohori Park is popular for walking and jogging amidst lush greenery and traditional Japanese gardens.
Beautiful and Relaxing City Escape 🌸🏞️ Ohori Park is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Fukuoka! The large lake surrounded by walking paths and greenery makes it perfect for a morning stroll, jog, or paddleboat ride. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons — cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant colors in autumn. There are also cozy cafés and benches where you can just sit and enjoy the view. A wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy nature right in the heart of the city! 🌿☕🦆
Ong I — Google review
A nice park with an island in the center in the lake. It was nice and tranquil away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It was cool to see some ducks in the lake and I was thoroughly impressed with the sheer size of the lake. A nice break to help you recharge and be at peace before resuming your exploration of the city!
Hun T — Google review
Amazing park! During the summer its very hot but lots of big trees which gives a lot of shade when needed. For ¥250 we also visited the Japanese garden, 10/10 recommend. Very relaxing and quiet, not a lot of people.
Vivian T — Google review
Ohori Park is a spacious, well-maintained park with plenty of joggers and a separate path for walkers, making it enjoyable for everyone. Free to enter, the paths are clean, with nice views across the lake and a pleasant walkway through the middle. You’ll see dog walkers and locals relaxing throughout the day. Toilets are clean, Western style, and adequate. Easy to reach from Hakata Station by bus #9 — about 260 JPY per person.
Karen G — Google review
A really good place to chill, we walked from Amam Dacotan, got our coffee and bread and brought it to the park, and we could sit near the lake to enjoy our food. The Fukuoka art museum was inside, and a few cute shops were nearby as well. Would recommend to go
Audrey Z — Google review
We came here on a rainy day so it was a bit of a shame but the sky cleared later on the day so we were able to roam around and take photos. This place is perfect if you want to take strolls or have a run. We saw an old man feeding the fish and turtles by the bridge and they were huuuge.
Exy — Google review
A beautiful, well maintained park in downtown Fukuoka. With plenty of space to relax, take a jog, bike ride or walk around the track. Or wait for that perfect opportunity to catch the sunset. A must do experience.
Sharaz H — Google review
Ohori Park is a beautiful, spacious spot perfect for a relaxing walk or a peaceful break from the city. The lake views are stunning, and the walking path around it is great for jogging, strolling, or just enjoying the scenery. There are plenty of benches, shaded areas, and even a few cafés nearby, making it easy to spend an hour or two here. A must-visit if you’re in Fukuoka and looking for a calm, scenic place to unwind. There is a garden in the park, make sure you visit, the kois there are crazy big and active. Would buy the 100 Yen feed and enjoy a chill time.

Fukuoka Tower is a modern skyscraper in Fukuoka, Japan, offering an observation deck with panoramic views of the city and bay. It stands at a height of 234 meters, providing visitors with stunning vistas of the glittering city below. The tower also features dining options and a lounge for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenery.
I’ve been to many towers in Japan. This one I would say is considerably similar to others. However the view is different. I went up around 7pm so I could catch both daytime view and night view. They are stunning. I thought it would be packed with people but it was ok. No line for getting tickets, didn’t wait much at all for going up and down. 1000 yen justified for me.
Yu ( — Google review
Comparing the place, the ticket price is high. Overhyped. I think the space is not enough for too many people. They should limit the number of people so that everyone can enjoy the place. There is no seating option, so it is difficult to stand for long periods of time and enjoy the view. If I had known this beforehand, I would not have gone because I have severe back pain. You can't even sit on the floor. There are some places to take pictures, but if you ask the staff there, they won't take pictures, you have to ask the person behind the line to take pictures. So it's better if you can go with your own group. Overall I don't like it.
Dil A — Google review
It was a gloomy evening when we visited Fukuoka Tower around 6 p.m. There was no line at the ticket counter, and the entrance fee was ¥1,000 per person. We stayed for about 30 minutes because that’s all it really takes to enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Perhaps because it’s a major tourist spot, the admission feels a bit pricey for what it offers. It’s best to visit the tower later in the evening to see the city lights. Visited in late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
I know it’s a touristy spot but it’s something that you should go to see especially if it’s an nice cloud free day. I’d probably recommend going at night or during sunset because you’ll get the best views. If you go on a weekend I’d probably recommend you buy your tickets early to skip the line. Don’t forget to check out the gift shop and walk across the street to check out the other places.
Nathan O — Google review
Not the Tower's fault, we took a gamble on if the weather would hold out. The rain and clouds came about 10 minutes after we got to the top. Once the clouds hit, we couldn't see anything. It had a 6 stamp rally. Photos to take awesome foggy photos in 2 spots. There is a love locket and a pin ball machine to get your fortune! We still had a good time with what we had!
Yuuki A — Google review
Its really a long long walk from the nearest station 🚶‍♀️ 🚶‍♀️ 🚶‍♀️ you will pass through an educational sector of Fukuoka, university and elementary schools. The tower is amazing to look at and you can spot it from far away. It really is a tower camouflaged into an office tower form. No wait at all as it wasn’t really a busy or popular pick. The view from the top is amazing and seeing the sea, the horizon, clouds and coastline is fantastic. There are other things to do besides gawking at the view, some nice photoshoot area, some lucky fortune game etc. there is also a cafe one floor below the viewing deck. We feel it really is a good place to visit and a change from city based tower where you only see the city from above. There is a souvenir shop on the first floor to get your memories. After the visit you can head to the beach too. 🏝️
Ken F — Google review
Video and photo taken with an iPhone 12, so it doesn’t do the view justice. Breathtaking sunset views of Fukuoka. Little to no waiting time. Glass windowed Elevator allows for views on the way up as well. The observation deck was spacious enough for everyone, not as crowded as Kyoto tower. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Fukuoka!
Justin Y — Google review
The night view of Fukuoka is exceptionally impressive, with a relatively low number of visitors. I visited the location around 8pm on a weekday. There are staff members present who provide guidance and information about the building in Japanese. While purchasing tickets on-site is acceptable, it is recommended to reserve tickets online in advance to avoid queues.

Canal City Hakata is not just your average shopping mall - it's a vibrant entertainment hub that offers an array of experiences. This sprawling complex boasts 250 shops, two hotels, offices, movie theaters, arcades, and a performance stage surrounding a 180-meter canal. Visitors can enjoy fountain shows every half hour, adding to the lively atmosphere. From popular Western brands like Zara and H&M to Japanese favorites like Sanrio, there's something for every shopper.
Even if you didn’t want to go shopping, the building itself is so pretty here. They also have water fountain shows quite regularly. We saw one in the day and again once at night. Worth going just to enjoy the architect.
M ( — Google review
Canal City Hakata is such a cool place! It’s way more than just a shopping mall — there’s a little canal running through it, colorful lights, and even fountain shows. You can shop, eat, relax, and just wander around without getting bored. The whole vibe is super fun and laid-back. Definitely one of those places that make you go “wow” when you walk in!
Katarzyna S — Google review
Canal City Hakata is easily accessible by Kushida Shrine station by following the crowd and arrows to round about into the mall. It has a good mix of high and mid end shops. My objectives is to get a good pair of walking shoes for my mum and myself at Alpens Fukuoka. Most eateries are on Basement 1 which will see crowds of people taking videos of the canal fountain show happening every hour. My description will not do justice to Canal City, which houses a performing arts centre, Grand Hyatt and ten floors of space. I will spend a whole day here if not for my limited itinerary this round. The mall is definitely kids friendly as well as great for families to explore, so don't short-change yourselves by saying "Oh, I'm just passing by." We ended up coming back two more times for food and rest after checking out Nakasu Food Stalls which is nearby. I'll consider booking an accomodation nearby for my next visit after tackling Hakata and Tenjin.
Alvin L — Google review
Canal City Hakata is quite a large complex with a canal running through the center. There are a wide variety of shops selling clothes, shoes, and toys. You’ll find places like Sanrio Gallery, Ghibli Shop, Disney Store, ABC Mart, and Gundam Base, as well as tons of gachapon (capsule toy) machines. There’s also a fountain show every 30 minutes, which is really fun to watch!
Yada O — Google review
A nice big shopping mall, most of the sitting area are located near the fountain. Great Light show highly recommended to stay for the gundam light show at night there's a interactive game to play.
Vinciyl — Google review
There were many anime and manga & themed stores inside, including the Fukuika Gundam Base (accessed from outside but seemed to be in the same building), also live performance of group singers and water fountain show. A perfect escape in rainy days.
Sylvia C — Google review
A lot of stores to check from, including food, shopping, clothes, and shoes. A water fountain shows every 30 minutes. Good for family and friends.

Great shopping place in Fukuoka. I bought 1 jacket and 1 denim rool cap from GreenFruit Moon, eventhough is it 2nd shop but the quality is super. Tax free counter is on B1F. Happy with the buy

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, located in Fukuoka, Japan, is a popular Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of learning, Sugawara Michizane. The shrine boasts a museum and beautiful gardens filled with 6,000 plum trees that bloom from late January to early March.
**Dazaifu Tenmangu – A Historic Shrine for Academic Blessings** Founded over 1,100 years ago and dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, the deity of learning, this shrine is Fukuoka's most important destination for academic blessings. Students and parents visit to pray for success in exams, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere. **Must-do activities for blessings:** - **Touch the Sacred Ox**: Be prepared for lines, but it's worth the wait. Focus on touching the **golden areas** of the statue—these polished spots indicate where generations have sought blessings, and are believed to be most effective. - **Write an Ema Plaque**: Purchase a wooden plaque, write your academic wishes, and hang it alongside thousands of others. - **Buy a Protective Charm**: The shrine offers various omamori, with education-themed charms being particularly popular. The beautiful grounds with their historic plum trees and ponds make for a pleasant stroll. An **Ichiran Ramen** near the station offers convenient refreshment afterward. **Verdict**: Essential for families seeking academic blessings. Visit in good weather to fully appreciate the serene environment, and don't miss touching the golden parts of the sacred ox despite potential crowds.

Beautiful and historic shrine — even more special with the temporary temple design Dazaifu Tenmangu is a must-visit spot for anyone traveling around Fukuoka. The approach to the shrine is lined with charming shops and snack stalls, creating a lively and traditional atmosphere. When I visited, the main temple seemed to be under construction, but the temporary shrine with trees growing on the roof was absolutely magical and unique — blending nature and spirituality in a beautiful way. There are plenty of local treats to enjoy along the way, especially the famous ume (plum) sweets and mochi. Just note that most food stalls close around 5 PM, so it’s best to arrive earlier if you want to enjoy the full experience. Overall, Dazaifu remains a peaceful, scenic, and culturally rich destination, even during renovations. Definitely worth a visit!
Marc — Google review
Daizaifu Tenmangu Shrine is just a short bus ride from Hakata, making it an easy day trip. It can get quite crowded, but the atmosphere is nice and the shrine itself is beautiful. There’s not much to do afterward unless you’re really into sightseeing, though there is a museum right beside it that’s worth checking out if you have extra time.
Rafael M — Google review
This Shrine and temple is a bit further out from the ones in the main city but well worth the trip. It was very busy when I arrived but it don’t feel overwhelming with the crowds. The path leading up to it had many shops and places to grab some food. The bridges to the temple are a real wow and then you enter the temple which is stunning. Inside the grounds there are more little shops for souvenirs. Toilet facilities available.
Jonathan S — Google review
There were quite a lot of people, but it didn’t feel crowded. The Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine area is shaded with trees and has a pleasant atmosphere — great for taking photos. There are also many shops along the way to the Shrine where you can stroll around and enjoy browsing. Don’t forget to try the red bean cake — there are many stalls to choose from!
Yada O — Google review
If you are in Fukuoka, this should be in your list. In front of the shrine, there are many local shops and restaurants. The shrine here is well known for students who would like to make their wish for their studying at least to make them having more confidence. As for tourists, yes good place to visit and observe their culture. Many nice restaurants worth trying too.
Khoong Y — Google review
Almost 1.5 hours from Fukuoka, you'll find a nice shrine with a mix of temple and shopping street. They preserve the culture well. It has a lot of good structure inside with great photo spots.
Christian L — Google review
Typical touristy hotspot. The crowd in the street in front of the shrine and around the honten felt overwhelming, but the small museum showing its collections was quiet and lovely, so was the little hike up to the art installations and a shrine in it's back. Their Goshuin is not on a separate paper and you have to buy a notebook (3,000 -5,000 JPY) to get the handwritten one (500? JPY) unless you bring your own proper goshuin notebook.

Kyushu National Museum is a modern museum with ever-changing exhibits and a futuristic mirrored design. Nestled in the serene eastern hills of Dazaifu, the building resembles a colossal space station and delves into the cultural connections between Asia and Kyushu. The museum's 4th floor hosts a permanent 'Cultural Exchange Exhibition' showcasing invaluable artifacts from across the continent, complemented by English signage and an audioguide for comprehensive understanding.
Underrated museum. In a country where they can be a bit hit and miss, the permanent collection was beautifully presented in a large atmospheric black hall, with excellent English language explanations, taking you from prehistoric up until 19th C history, focusing especially on the cultural and trade exchange between Japan and Asia. There are some absolute gems of statues, vases, scrolls and paintings among the collection. At the front desk, I was advised around 40 mins was enough to see the collection, but 1.5 hours was just enough to get to the end. If you chose one museum around Fukuoka, I'd make it this one for sure (the Fukuoka City museum feels dated and mundane in comparison).
Gergely S — Google review
One of the four national museums, but compared to the one in Tokyo, the one here in Dazaifu falls short in terms of exhibits and size. However, the architecture and the museum grounds were impressive and it's definitely worth a visit should you be in Dazaifu.
Jun M — Google review
The Museum is genuinely interesting and the exhibit was overall well explained. It takes you through a tour of Kyushu's history from the Yayoi period up to modern times. It's nice to see a good museum that wasn't built of stolen artefacts. Lots of pieces were donated by various countries, really wish that museums back in Europe would do the same and not just keep stolen things forever. It's worth the detour if you're in Dazaifu for sure!
Noah — Google review
The museum is pretty huge! If you’re unable to climb the stairs, you’ll have to go from the opposite side and go up the rainbow stairway or rainbow bridge. It’s super big so expect to spend some hours at the museum.
Wesley — Google review
Great exhibits. They rotate exhibits upstairs and there is a tiered pricing structure. No pictures inside the exhibits.
Killian P — Google review
Beautiful museum! Was recommended to me by a lady in tourist information and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I paid extra for the special exhibition and it was worth it. Everything was written in japanese and english , easy to understand and all the staff were really helpful. They even offer free guided tour. I will definitely visit again. Don't forget the stamp!
Kristyna T — Google review
I think this is a best place to go and learn ancient kyushu history and also mordernization of kyushu. The exhibits are meaningful and discription is clear. There is a free audio guide at the entrance. Understand the history of this place make your enjoy and appreciate more of what Kyushu can offer
Willie L — Google review
Easily one of the most beautiful museum I've been to in Japan. I last went close to a decade ago and I've been waiting ever since to return. Beautiful architecture in such a serene location only adds to the amazing exhibits on display. It's moody, it's quiet and it's contemplative inside with massive ceilings and a very freeform approach to looking at the art and exhibits on display If I could give more than 5 stars I happily would. It's a beautiful museum that's well worth your time. I'm already thinking about next time I can go back Highly recommend!!

Marine World is a city aquarium located in Fukuoka City, Kyushu, featuring diverse marine life and entertaining dolphin and sea lion shows. Situated within the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, this attraction showcases 30,000 animals from 450 species, offering an educational experience on the warm Tsushima Current. Visitors can explore the world-class Large Panoramic Water Tank housing over 150 examples of sharks and rays from various species.
Marine World is easily one of the best attractions in Fukuoka. I really enjoyed the sardine show, it was amazing to see thousands of fish moving together in perfect harmony. The dolphin show was just as fun, full of energy and excitement that kept everyone smiling. There are so many sea creatures to see, from colorful fish to impressive sharks, and everything is presented in a way that’s both interesting and educational. I also liked that they have a nice restaurant where you can relax and enjoy a good meal after exploring. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fukuoka.
Josh — Google review
The Marine World is a fantastic family-friendly destination in Fukuoka, offering a mix of entertainment and education. The highlight is the dolphin show where skilled trainers and playful dolphins put on an engaging performance that delights visitors of all ages. Apart from the show, it features a diverse range of sea creatures, from colorful tropical fish to majestic rays and sharks. The exhibits are well-maintained and informative, making it both fun and educational for kids. For dining, the on-site family restaurant offers a good variety of meals, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The park itself is compact but enjoyable, making it ideal for a half-day visit. Pairing it with a trip to the nearby Uminonakamichi Seaside Park with its beautiful gardens, playgrounds, and cycling paths, it makes a perfect full-day family outing. Overall, this marine park is a great choice for families looking for a mix of fun, learning, and relaxation in Fukuoka. Highly recommended!

I had a great time with the kids after a long time. It was great to be able to see the dolphin show in Japan that I saw when I was little. There were a variety of shows, so there was a lot to see. But the food wasn't cheap. Still, it was nice to remember my childhood after such a long time. When returning, I recommend checking the train schedule before going. I waited too long because I didn't check the time.
Eunseok K — Google review
Route instruction can still be clearer. We almost missed the penguin and dolphin training part. Nice experience to see dolphins and penguin closely. Animal show schedule not exactly same as what is shown on the website. Refer to the TV in the aquarium for more accurate info. We didn't try the food in the restaurant, bought from an uncle at the main hall instead, food taste ok. Re-entry is possible, remember to stamp the UV stamp on your hand in order to re-enter.
Momo C — Google review
It looks massive on the outside but relatively small on the inside. We finished the whole place in less than 3 hours. Beautiful space for the sea animals. The penguins outdoors were really cute!! We noticed there were many foreigners when we were there as well. I would suggest having some literature in English so more would be able to enjoy. Overall a fun place for adults and children. There’s a restaurant that serves reasonably priced curry in case you’re hungry. Tickets are 2000 yen for adults, 700 yen for 3 and above, 1200 for elementary school children.
Susan K — Google review
A cozy aquarium with a variety of sea animals. We drove there and parking was not a problem. The show was the highlight for our visit! It was amazing for the kids to see. They had a special show where the diver fed the fishes in the big tank! Both are great!

Just brilliant! Must see in Fukuoka! A lot of information about the life under the Sea. Huge space, magnificent location and view. Drinks and food also available. And the most important thing: the animals! Just amazing! Thank you!

Compared to other aquariums in Japan, this one is relatively smaller. Nonetheless, you get to enjoy the shows, and the displays. You can actually finish touring the whole place in 2-3hours. Also, you can use the QR code to listen to the documentaries in English.

Tochoji Temple, located in the heart of Hakata, Fukuoka, is a historic Heian-era temple renowned for its impressive wooden Buddha statue and ancient carvings. The temple also houses the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, offering insights into daily life during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Nearby attractions include the five-story pagoda at Tochoji and Kushida Shrine, where the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa Matsuri festival begins each year.
The temple has a beautiful pagoda and a big Buddha statue on the second floor of another building. The statue was very detailed and amazing to see. There’s an entrance or offering fee of ¥100 per person to view the Buddha, and taking photos inside is not allowed. I got a goshuin there. They have pre-made stamps available for ¥500. Visited in late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
The giant wooden Buddha statue and 5-story pagoda made with wood only were artistically and spiritually awe-inspiring. When I visited around 9 am, it was solomn and quiet, with a few small groups of tourists, just how a proper temple should be. The goshuin was hand-written by an elder monk and came with a beautiful postcard. Love the whole experience.
Sylvia C — Google review
Its worth the visit. The experience was amazing and the big wooden Buddha was amazing to see and walk around it to see other paintings and hear the history of it. At one point it was pitch black and no light allowed to find your way out from under the big Buddha. Its well worth 100 yen. No photos allowed inside, its a very spiritual experience.
Reshma T — Google review
Tochoji Temple is a free and small but culturally rich site in Fukuoka, often busy with visitors. It features a striking red, tiered pagoda that’s beautiful for photos and adds to the temple’s historic charm. The main highlight, however, is the massive seated Buddha hidden inside—one of the largest wooden Buddhas in Japan—which you can view for just 100 JPY. Despite its size, the temple grounds are compact, making it a quick but worthwhile stop if you’re in the area.
Karen G — Google review
A hidden gem in the heart of Hakata! Tochoji Temple is a tranquil oasis just steps from the busy city streets. The massive wooden Buddha statue is breathtaking—standing over 10 meters tall, it’s one of the largest seated Buddha statues in Japan. Don’t miss the “hell and paradise” corridor beneath the statue—it’s a unique and thought-provoking experience. The temple grounds also feature a beautiful five-story pagoda and historic architecture. Easy to reach from Gion Station. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese culture and spirituality!

Visited on October 12, 2025. Free admission to see Hondo and Pagoda, but a fee is required to see the hidden buddha statue. There are a few tourists and locals, but relatively more than Shofukuji. It tends to get really hot in areas with no roof/cover.

Tōchō-ji (東長寺) is a Shingon temple in Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan. Its honorary sangō prefix is Nangakuzan (南岳山). This head temple of Shingon Buddhism Kyushu sect is given the special name Nangakuzan. It is dedicated to a famous 5 stories pagoda. Big great Buddha in level 1. No photo allowed. Short walk from Hakata city and next to old town!

Momochi Seaside Park is a popular manmade beach in Fukuoka, Japan, featuring a long stretch of sand perfect for activities like volleyball. The area is home to several famous landmarks such as the Fukuoka Tower and the Fukuoka City Museum. It's conveniently located just 15-20 minutes from downtown via bus or subway, making it an ideal place to take a break or enjoy a relaxing stroll.
Very, very nice park and beach. Dunno what it's like when it's open for swimming, but otherwise it's a perfect place to take a stroll, relax or play on the sand, or just take in the scenery. There are also a few food stalls/restaurants close to that wedding mansion, so you won't starve for refreshments there
MultiWouf — Google review
Nice little park next to beach with lots of food beverages options. If you been to San Francisco, if is like Per 37 Otherwise it is good to be stroll around
William L — Google review
A good choice for leisure in Fukuoka Hakata area. The beach is okay, sand is good. But when we went, there was a foul smell in the sea breeze similar to a rotting crab (probably an isolated case). Locals are freely swimming in the area, and some groups bring their own food to celebrate. There is no entrance fee. There are lots of restrooms, and restaurants are in an area accessible by the beach. It's just a few-minute walk from bus stations, and nearby the Fukuoka Tower. Best place to watch sunset as it is located in the western part of Kyushu island.

The place is like Dubai, its a man made sea not bad looks like you are in Hawaii too. Quite and has little shops its beside Fukuoka Tower! So have a good angle shot!

Located in the heart of Fukuoka, the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is a vibrant cultural center dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of contemporary and historic artworks from various Asian countries. Established in 1999, the museum occupies the former Fukuoka Branch of the Bank of Japan and features an impressive collection of over 1,000 works including paintings, sculptures, and prints. It also serves as an educational arts center.
I am a little confused about some of the other reviews referencing 1,000 or 2,000 yen for entrance... Maybe something has changed. The entrance is very cheap. It is only 200 yen. I happily would have paid more than that! And I felt that the exhibition was wonderful. I really enjoyed my time here. It has art from all over Asia, there's not really art from Japan, with the focus modern art, a lot of which reflects political events of the past 20 years. I thought it was really interesting, especially the uterus man piece which I loved. Also, the cafe is completely adorable, and the giant food pillows you can play in are just as fun for adults as they are for kids! All the art is signed in both English and Japanese.
Alana — Google review
I enjoyed this little Asian art museum. It’s just a few floors above one of the main subway lines. So super easy to get to. The focus is on contemporary Asian art, and it has samples from Japan, Korea, Singapore, etc. they also have regular shows. And there is a coffee shop in the space as well.

I always stop by this museum whenever I go to Fukuoka. The permanent exhibition features a good selection of Asian artists. I was in luck as the special exhibition at this time featured Tezuka Osamu’s Blackjack. Conveniently located in Riverrain Mall above Nakasu Kawabata subway station.

It was a good experience for just cheap entrance fee for this exhibition they also have exclusive art exhibition that cost a little bit pricey but if you love art that much you may try. It is worth to try.
Julina M — Google review
Again like any other museum in Japan very little content, we arrived during an exhibition of modern artist so the rooms with more traditional japanese art we wanted to see for already 2 weeks were just closed. Very deceiving when you come from far away to see a country heritage and end up with nothing but modern art exhibitions that are all over the earth right now. It's a great shame to see an authentic art museum closing national art exhibitions just to get more money (permanent exhibition 500 yen and the limited exhibition 2200, pretty simple to do the math and see why they closed it). Total desapointment, be careful and read the Web pages before, even tho there was no information about the permanent exhibition been closed until we were presented a sticker at the ticket office that showed the permanent exhibition closed.
Georges B — Google review
Well curated, great place to bring kids to learn Art but make sure they are behaved and don't disturb other people. They have a coffee space which can pick books to read.

Well curated experience with various artist from multiple countries that provide a historical forms of expressions throughout the past half century. In addition, at the time that I have visited the gallery there was a Silk Road exhibition between Japan and China; which was quite informative with many artifacts from the past century. Overall great experience. Didactics were in English and Japanese for the museum and exhibition with the exception of artifact didactics being just Japanese but made sense and google translate worked well to translate to English.

Acros Fukuoka is a 14-floor municipal government building in the heart of Fukuoka's financial district. It houses public-facing entities and revenue-producing businesses, as well as a cultural center and office space. The building features a full-height atrium with natural light shining through a vertically sliced glass cylinder.
Acros Fukuoka Building, a Japanese eco-friendly building, is a multi-cultural center. The meaning of Acros is a coined word meaning Asian Cross-Road of Over the Sead, symbolizing Fukuoka as a gateway to Asia. Designed by E milio Ambasz & Associates and built in 1995, the building has 14 floors above ground, 4 floors underground, and is 60m high. This building has a terraced structure that creates a natural green park and garden. As can be seen from the exterior and surrounding environment of Acros Fukuoka Building, this building can be said to be an eco-friendly building that includes natural green. The interior space consists of an international conference hall, Fukuoka Prefecture Passport Center, an information center for tourism products and international exchange, a cultural center, restaurants, a shopping mall, a symphony hall, an atrium, etc.

ACROS Fukuoka is an architectural marvel and a must-visit in Fukuoka City. Its unique stepped green terraces blend seamlessly with the surrounding urban landscape, offering a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling city center. The interior spaces are modern and well-maintained, perfect for exhibitions, conferences, and cultural events. The rooftop garden provides stunning panoramic views of the city skyline and is a great spot for relaxation. Whether you're a tourist exploring Fukuoka or a local looking for a serene escape, ACROS Fukuoka promises a memorable experience. Highly recommended! but note its not a tourist attraction

The building in the Step Garden adjacent to Tenjin Central Park is Across Fukuoka. This place, which can be called an urban oasis, is a hub for international, cultural, and information exchange. Expanded from 2 underground floors to 13 above-ground floors, it is equipped with various functions such as a symphony hall, event hall, international conference hall, prefectural passport center, offices, restaurants, and shops.
Platinum G — Google review
My review only focuses on the outside area of the building. The beauty of this building is that they made one of the side like a hiking path with lots of trees and cute animal lighting. If you follow the path, you will reach the top of the building on 14 floor. From there, you can have a good view of the Fukuoka city. Please note that they only open the top floor on Sat, Sun and public holidays.
Javin Y — Google review
Beautiful architecture! Reminds me of The Forum in Tokyo, but a little smaller. The trees and plants growing on the outside of the building give it a unique look. There's history to the restaurants here, Chappo on the ground floor has been here since the 1960's. Inside you'll find little stores and restaurants. As you keep going up the elevator floors you'll notice there are a bunch of offices, all different and all very modern in feel. They have a cultural gallery with a coffee lounge. And you can find a Nursing Room here too, just head towards the Seminar Room and go up the stairs. Great place to explore and take shelter from the summer heat or if it's raining. I was surprised to see a YAMAHA store and a Georgio Armani shop. If you're craving ice cream, go down to the basement level and you'll find a treat.

This is one of the coolest building I've ever seen. There is lots of things to see here. The inside as well as outside of the building is beautiful. This building is connected with tenjin metro station. There is shopping malls, restaurants, and theater. There is section where there is meeting rooms and lots of office of several companies.

Visitors can explore prehistoric sculptures, contemporary paintings by renowned modernist artists, historic Japanese sculptures and antiquities, pre-modern Korean arts and crafts, important western artworks and prints, ancient Persian glassware, Chinese, Korean and Japanese paintings as well as valuable Buddhist artifacts.
One of the best art museums I have visited. Very high quality collection with a very reasonable amount on display. I also loved the section of local artists. Wonderful spot very worth the trip.

Very nice museum, cheap entry tickets with reductions for students, and a permanent exhibition with works from artists such as Dalí, Matisse, Warhol, Chagall as well as many other japanese artists. There’s a good mix or modern and older artworks, and also other exhibitions (when I visited there was a Hello Kitty one, and also a music themed one). The park the museum is in is also beautiful, definitely worth a visit!

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a vast leisure space located in Fukuoka, Japan. It spans six kilometers and covers 300 hectares, making it one of the country's national parks. This family-friendly park offers a wide range of attractions, including flower gardens and hills that showcase beautiful blooms throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy playgrounds, an amusement park with various rides, a water park for cooling off during hot summer days, and an animal forest.
I parked at the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Barrier-Free Parking Lot (海の中道海浜公園 バリアフリー駐車場). Since I knew the park was huge, I rented a bicycle at the entrance. However, we only traveled from Flower Hill to the jumping area, so the bike wasn’t really necessary. Another thing to note is that bicycles are only allowed on the outer paths and not in the central areas. That said, if you enjoy cycling, it's still a nice option to have. Our child absolutely loved the giant jumping area, and the blue nemophila flowers were beautiful—great for photos. It’s a pity we didn’t plan for a longer visit; you could easily spend the whole day here. We saw groups of kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students on field trips. The park is well-maintained, with plenty of trash bins and restrooms. There are even a few drinking fountains where you press a button and drink from the water stream directly.
李京軒 — Google review
450yen per entry, 1400 for the two seated bicycle rental. The zoo was interesting but the flower hill and the flower museum was really beautiful! The seaside view was okay. We only explored for 3 hours due to tight schedule and elderly parents were already tired, so there were more places we did not check out. I think one might be able to spend the whole day to explore this whole park.
PenPen P — Google review
The Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a sprawling, family-friendly destination perfect for outdoor recreation and relaxation. A major highlight is the extensive network of paths ideal for exploring. Families especially enjoy renting tandem bicycles, making it easy and fun to cover the vast, picturesque grounds together. Visiting in early April offers a stunning bonus: the park transforms into a Sakura (cherry blossom) wonderland. Cycling or strolling beneath blooming cherry trees is a quintessential Japanese spring experience. Beyond cycling, the park caters to children with dedicated play areas, including a popular kids' jumping zone where they can burn off energy. With its beautiful coastal and garden scenery, open spaces, and relaxed atmosphere, the park offers a perfect place for adults to unwind while kids play.
Sorlo S — Google review
Beautiful large park. Disc golf course, zoo, and multiple kids play areas on site. Huge area so best traversed with one of the rental bicycles. I went on a very quiet day but I presume it gets very busy during holidays. Lovely for an outdoor day out. Can access via the ferry from the city or the train.
Joel R — Google review
This place is great for families with small children. It is about a 40 minute train ride from Hakata station. There are huge open spaces and play grounds. There is a small zoo inside this park and an awesome aquarium as well. We rented a bike and rode around the entire park. We went during the winter time so not much was going on. The park was pretty empty. I'm sure during the warmer months there are more activities and the flowers are probably beautiful when they're in season. A side note, there aren't many places to eat around here, so if you are planning to stay all day I would maybe pack a lunch or something. Overall this was a cute place to visit and I would say a must do if you have young children. I wish I took more pictures of the landscape here.
K Q — Google review
Beautiful park. Lots to see and do. The fields are green and wide. Lots of trees and wildlife. There was a zoo that we did not expect with lots of beautiful well taken care of animals. Very interactive and you can be inside with the kangaroos and they are safe to have your children around. Monkeys and macaws. They have a beautiful botanical garden and you can take lots of photos
Daniel J — Google review
Great experience. I deeply enjoyed the rose garden and flower museum despite coming in autumn when I expected there to be no flowers - plot twist: there WERE flowers!!! Tons!!! I also saw tons of butterflies. I only got pictures of a few, but saw the world's smallest (pygmy blue), several swallowtails (yellow tiger, long tail spangle, graphium sarpedon) two color morphs of the yellow grassland butterfly, and more. The zoo portion was really cool. People are restricted to the paths, but the animals can roam freely. Getting followed around by baby capybaras was so fun! The monkey areas were filled with cool enrichment stuff, and, again, the monkeys could leave at any time. All creatures showed a high quality of life and good health. We rented bikes (there are multiple rental stations and you can return the bikes to any location) and rode all over the park. We stopped by the antique car museum and I got the cutest little plush bear as a souvenir. The cars all have vanity plates with their names in katakana. I thought that was a really cool touch. It's a small museum but well worth the 300yen to get in.
Sparrow M — Google review
Had tons of fun with the family. we're a family of 4, two girls aged 8 and 3. There are tandem bicycle, bicycle with child seat and individual bicycles to choose from. We went in early June and it was off peak. Not many flowers (as expected as not in season) but we still managed to see plenty of nice flowers. There's a middle sized zoo as well with significant collection (capybaras, kangaroos, flamingos, monkeys, llamas, etc) and guinea pigs. Limited food choices though. Taking the train/subway requires multiple changes.. recommend to take bus instead or ferry from hakata ferry terminal. You can check the various modes of option with the scheduled at the entrance/ticketing booth to the park.

Hakata’s oldest shopping street has about 130 shops lining a 400-meter long arcade. This Hakata shopping area features gift shops selling traditional Hakata ningyo dolls and other items, shops specialized in Yamakasa goods, stores that offer products from the Genkai-nada sea, and ramen shops.
T T — Google review
This is a rather quaint, slightly archaic arcade with a beautiful entrance roof arch. The arcade itself is built along two straight avenues, much like a cross, and has a wide variety of shops including tailors, a Daiso and traditional folkware and items. It is said to be the oldest shopping street in the area. Worth a visit if you are in the neigbourhood and it is only 20 minutes' walk from Canal City.
Steven L — Google review
Kawabata Shopping Arcade is the first commercial town to flourish in Hakata and has a history of over 130 years. The 400m-long arcade is home to over 130 old and new shops, and is bustling with clothing, food, and specialty shops every day. There are souvenir shops including Hakata dolls, shops selling Yamakasa (floats and floats used in Shinto rituals) goods, and popular ramen shops selling Genkai Sea delicacies and popular ramen, making it a regular spot for walking around Hakata. On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and during events, you can also taste the famous Kawabata sweet red bean soup at the event plaza inside the shopping arcade.

not many interesting stores, only 1 pharmacy, the majority were spiritual stores. can be done in less than an hour.
C — Google review
Unlike some famous shopping streets in Tokyo or Osaka that are dominated by shops oriented towards tourists, this place houses many local businesses that give visitors an authentic and local experience. While it is full of shops, I am a bit disappointed that many of them close quite early. More than half were already closed when I was there at around 7:30pm.
Wong J — Google review
Kawabata Shopping Arcade is a traditional covered shopping street located near Canal City Hakata. It offers a mix of old-school charm and local flavor, with a variety of small shops, local eateries, and souvenir stores. While not particularly flashy, it's a good place to explore everyday Japanese shopping culture and pick up unique local snacks or gifts. It's quiet compared to the larger malls, making it a pleasant stroll if you're in the area—but not a must-visit unless you're nearby.
Karen G — Google review
Considering that Fukuoka is a big city, it’s shopping. Arcade is quite small and narrow, as compared to the other bigger cities.

Sumiyoshi Jinja is a historic Shinto shrine located in a serene park, surrounded by lush Japanese cedar and camphor trees. As one of the oldest shrines in Kyushu, it holds great significance as a place dedicated to protecting seafarers. The main hall, rebuilt in 1623, is recognized as a National Treasure and houses ancient artifacts like copper axes and swords.
This shrine offers a spacious, peaceful retreat under a towering sacred tree, right in the middle of the city. Surrounded by modern buildings, it’s not hidden, yet it holds a deep sense of sanctity. Ceremonies are held here, and many people come to pray, adding to its spiritual atmosphere. I also took a walk to the nearby river, which has a fascinating historical story. The shrine is not only beautiful but also easy to find—a perfect spot for a quiet moment amid the urban landscape.
Natthakit Y — Google review
Sumiyoshi Shrine, located just a short walk from Hakata Station, is a peaceful and compact shrine with serene grounds that offer a welcome break from the city. While small, it holds cultural significance as one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Fukuoka, dedicated to the protection of sailors. Entry is free, and when we visited on a weekday afternoon, it was pleasantly quiet with few other visitors—ideal for a calm, reflective stop.
Karen G — Google review
It was a quiet weekday morning visit to the shrine. The shrine staff were cleaning the grounds, and the shrine office was accommodating. They offer a goshuin for ¥500. We visited during the last week of September 2025. It’s a walkable shrine within the Canal City area.

I only chose this shrine during a very short visit in Fukuoka. I find this place very calm and peaceful. No busy tourist vibes. Perhaps, I came here 30 minutes before the shrine closed. I love the architecture and respect the culture. I also prayed a little bit and denoted some coins. I was thinking buying these colorful good luck or talisman. Unfortunately, the store was close. I will come back again with my spouse 😍

Maizuru Park is a serene park in Fukuoka, Japan, known for its beautiful cherry blossoms and the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The castle, built around 1600, was mostly torn down during modernization in 1871. Visitors can explore the history dating back to the Heian Period at the Korokan Ruins Museum.
A calm and peaceful park 🌸 except when it's sakura season 😆 Many people but you can still enjoy and eat a lot of food as the Sakura Matsuri started already !
ManDe — Google review
A park in Fukuoka, worth a visit if you're in the area. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, with open green spaces and walking paths that are great for a relaxing stroll. While there’s nothing particularly exceptional about it, the park is well maintained and a nice spot to take a break from the city. During cherry blossom season, it becomes much livelier, with beautiful sakura trees adding to the charm.

Current Sakura Festival in this park! Not fully bloomed but still very nice to see! Venture further in for the in land lake and swan boat rides (1200Y 30min for 2A+1C).

The cherry blossoms were showing a lot more green and the vegetation in the pond was brown. And, the wisteria needs a bit more time to fully bloom. Maybe another week?

Very nice view! Went on Friday morning, along a little rain, so not many visitors
Rayn W — Google review
This place is really nice when the trees are all full, especially when the cherry blossoms bloom. Would recommend going here for cherry blossoms! Note though that during cherry blossom season, you can't go to the top of fukuoka castle ruins to see the view as they have lights in the shape of a castle there. So come back for the view next time if you're going here during the cherry blossoms.

Great weather when I visited. Sunny but cool (13°C). There was a public food fare between 27/3/2024-7/4/2024. Many varieties of food are available as well as beer as usual. Performances were scheduled as well. A big open field for a picnic or just to sit and enjoy the weather.

teamLab Forest Fukuoka is a cutting-edge digital art museum located in the heart of Fukuoka City. Created by the renowned Japan-based art collective, teamLab, this immersive attraction showcases the fusion of art, science, technology, and nature. Divided into two main sections - Catch and Collect Forest and Forest of Motion - visitors can explore captivating digital exhibits that offer a unique sensory experience.
Absolutely love Team Labs! Had a great time collecting all the animals!! The app was a little wonky and I restarted my phone and had no issues. Downfall: when you draw your design stay in the exact lines. They don't scan the whole square. When we did the flowers some was cut off since we were out of the lines. Our towel wasn't the exact design and instead a design of their layout. I loved the rooms and had fun I the air ball room! It was 7800¥ for 2 adults including buying 2 towels.

**TeamLab Forest Fukuoka – A Compact, Interactive Adventure Ideal for Families** You'll find this digital art museum on the 5th floor of the BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA mall, right next to the MIZUHO PayPay Dome . It's a more intimate experience compared to the larger TeamLab museums in Tokyo and Osaka, built around two engaging sections . The **Catching and Collecting Forest** turns you into an explorer. Using a smartphone app, you can find, catch, and study digital animals that move across the walls and floors, learning about them as you build your own digital collection . The **Athletics Forest** is a physical playground designed to challenge your body and spatial awareness, with features like bouncing spheres and terrain that encourages climbing and sliding . For a smooth visit, wear sneakers, as high heels, sandals, or wooden clogs will prevent you from experiencing the athletic areas . Plan for a stay of about 1.5 to 2 hours, though you might stay longer if you get engrossed in catching creatures . Getting there via public transport involves a 15-minute walk from the Tojimachi Station (also known as唐人町站), which can feel a bit remote from the main city hubs like Hakata and Tenjin . **Verdict:** A fantastic and interactive first dive into TeamLab's world, especially for families. If you've already visited the bigger locations, you can skip it unless you're in the area.
Calvin W — Google review
Such a neat sensory and interactive exhibit that is great for all ages. We spent about 1.5 hours there with our group of 12, ages 9-79 years old. We loved drawing our animals and watching them come to life beneath us! Highly recommend!
Curt S — Google review
Loved it! It wasn’t too busy either. We booked our tickets via Klook. The forest room, the app to catch the animals was a bit laggy but overall a great experience. We loved every room as they were all different and interactive. Recommend to go see this Team Lab if you’re in Fukuoka.
Thy N — Google review
Disappointing experience. The app doesn’t work properly on Android, though it runs better on iPhone. Be warned, it drains the battery in under an hour. Thankfully, staff know about the bugs and lent us old iPhones, but that doesn’t save the experience. You have to catch each animal three times to unlock a pointless text. Nothing fun about that. Some rooms are dangerous: unstable half-balloons, wobbly edges, real risk of falling. The drawing room is dull, your artwork scrolls lifelessly, nothing like TeamLab Borderless where it moves and interacts. No relaxation space, no tea room, nowhere to unwind. Even getting there is confusing and frustrating. I came to have fun, not to struggle. At Tokyo Borderless, I was amazed. In Fukuoka, I was bored. No fun, just frustration. Avoid it. 👎
Big D — Google review
Bought tickets fr Klook the day before visiting. Easy entry by scanning QR code. There are 4 sections. Download the Teamlab app at the entrance by scanning the QR code for capturing the lighted & moving digital animals on the walls. Next section was stepping on balls. Need to do some balancing here. The balls will change colour. Attendants will hold up instructions in various languages at each entrance to explain how to play. If you bring big bags, better to store them in lockers found on 1st and 3rd flr? Overall, nice experience to spend a few hours.
Susan C — Google review
Amazing digital art experience! The lights, sounds, and interactive exhibits are mesmerizing. Great for photos and fun to explore — best to book ahead and wear comfy shoes.
Uttapong R — Google review
Visiting teamLab Forest in Fukuoka was a surreal and unforgettable experience! Unlike any regular museum or art exhibit, this is a fully interactive digital world where you become part of the art. It’s designed to engage all your senses — everywhere you go, the walls, floor, and even the air seem alive with motion, color, and sound. The exhibit is split into two main zones: the Athletics Forest, which involves more physical movement (think climbing and balancing in glowing, futuristic spaces), and the Forest of Motion, which feels like walking through a living dream. One moment you’re surrounded by butterflies, the next you’re floating through galaxies or watching animals you’ve created walk into the digital forest. Everything reacts to your movement, so it feels like the art is responding to you. It’s great for all ages — whether you’re looking for Instagram-worthy photos or just want to be amazed. I recommend wearing comfortable clothes and grip-friendly shoes since some areas involve light climbing or uneven floors. It’s not too long — around 1–2 hours — but totally worth it. Super close to the PayPay Dome and easy to get to. If you’re in Fukuoka, don’t miss this! It’s one of the most unique experiences in the city.

Seeing a baseball game is a must if you're in Japan at the right time. The stadium was well organised, queues for food moved quickly and you could get drinks easily from your seat. The atmosphere is amazing!

First time attending a concert, decided it would be TWICE in Japan, only to be a bit disappointed you can't record it. Nevertheless the Mizuho PayPay Dome is spacey with options getting from either Bus or Train (with 15 minutes walk). The place did not disappoint. Food shops nearby are reasonably price as well.

I've never watched a baseball game before but finally my 11yo is showing some interest so my family including 9yo booked to go! We went straight after school and while still light headed in to grab some food and find out seats. Its basically everything we've seen on YouTube- a beautiful stadium - clean, great viewing angles, fun cheering and beer and ice cream girls floating around. My kids loved it and the game was hugely exciting between SH and Hokkaido Fighters. We loved how easy it was to access toilets and food areas and everyone nearby was very well behaved and into the excitement. We'll definitely come back again.

I have been a fan of the Hawks for several years and have seen them several times in the Dome. It's an experience every time. The Dome is very well organised and tp structured. The rows are shorter than in other stadiums, which is good if you have a seat in the centre, then not so many people have to stand up to let you through. Go Hawks!

Got tickets via Klook! Was seated with many Koreans, mixed in with Japanese. The atmosphere is amazing, the baseball culture here is great, and the game was very fun. Overall would love to come again after finishing all NPB stadiums (been to 3/12 NPB stadiums)

Hakata Port Tower, a 100-meter lattice tower built in 1964, is a great spot for enjoying panoramic views of Fukuoka and the sea. Its observation deck at 70 meters offers stunning night views of the Urban Expressway and Fukuoka City. The tower is free to access, making it a rare find in Japan. Visitors can also enjoy views of the seaside and cityscape from this symbol of Hakata Bay.
Free to go to the top. Last entry was at 19:40 on the day I went (20th April). Great views and I appreciate how it is free (unlike Sapporo Tower!)
Reuben C — Google review
I visited this tower around lunch time and then again at sunset. It offers an expansive 360° view of Fukuoka and Hakata port and stays open later enough to watch the sunset over the water as well as the transition into full night sky. There were surprisingly few other people considering it was a Saturday and it's free to enter. Yes - the cost is free! I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a bird's eye view of the city. The cost is just an added bonus. I plan on returning at least one more time to try and catch a sunset with fewer clouds.

I seem to gyrate towards towers everywhere i travel to 🤪 we walked all the way from Tenjin along the river bank and it’s a great way of seeing the part of Fukuoka. The port tower is not tall in any sense, but it has a great view of the sea and surroundings. Come during sunset and believe me it’s gorgeous. The tower also lit up in blue and red at night. Entrance is free and the staff is so courteous 👍🏻 there are some historical info as well as model ships to see. Hardly anyone comes here, so there is mo crowd at all. I really like the feel here, serene and solitude. Its good then there is no crowd else it will spoil the whole feel 😉

Good viewing of the Hakata Port and the port display items. Understand how the sea port works and the various aspects of vessel . Good presentation and very well maintained facilities. The entry fee is free and closed on Wednesday. If I have a chance to visit Hakata in the future I am planning to visit the tower in the evening. They close very early at 8 pm .
Colin T — Google review
FREE ADMISSION. In a way this tower is much better than Fukuoka Tower in the distance because it has free admission and there are barely any other tourists here. The entrance is small and not that well marked, but it leads into a museum area and from there you can go to the tower's base. There are two elevators that take you to the top. After the initial group left, we had the whole place to ourself. There are good views of Hakata and there are images showing what each sight is in the distance. There's a funny sign on the street that says "Welcome to Nagasaki" and it makes quite an ironic picture.

Fukuoka Zoo and Botanical Garden is a long-standing establishment that offers a wide variety of animal and plant species, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the Hakozaki Shrine festival, featuring 3,500 ajisai flowers of over 100 different kinds. Additionally, the lily garden showcases 5,000 lilies of 30 different varieties.
The entry fee is 600yen. They have the zoo and botanical garden, both is fun and I especially liked that they have plenty of access to clean toilet everywhere. It was hot when I went there so most of the animals are taking nap, I probably will go for second time in fall because they have the area specific for autumn plants. For meal, the restaurant by the entry is about 1500yen per dish and the one by botanical garden is like 1000yen on average. The closing hour 4:30, it's better if you go in the early morning if you want to take your time to enjoy the whole park. Def recommended :)
Diyah S — Google review
The entry fee is ridiculously cheap. We went on a Thursday morning and it was pretty quiet, which was great. 🍝🌮The restaurant served surprisingly good food ,way better than expected We couldn’t finish the whole route around the zoo and only managed to see about a quarter of the animals because it was just way too hot outside 😢😭absolutely scorching, we couldn’t handle it 😭😭😭. Would definitely recommend coming on a cooler day or when the weather’s nicer! July.2025
Alex E — Google review
Amazing! It is extremely worth it for the entry fee of 600 yen. There is a variety of animals to see. Recommended to go during cooler weather as most of the zoo is unsheltered and sits on a hill. Add this to your itinerary if you’re unsure of what to do in Fukuoka! PS. as other reviews have mentioned, some of the animals do look quite lonely in the enclosures 😢
Lydia — Google review
A great place to visit with kids! It’s huge, with some hilly areas, but the lifts are well located, so it’s easy to get around with a stroller. You can see the animals up close, which is amazing. There’s also a rose botanical garden next to it, but it was under construction when I visited (Nov 25). The toilets and nursing room were very clean and well maintained. The information staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I left my bag somewhere, and she did their absolute best to help me find it — thanks to her, I got it back! 🙏🏻🙏🏻😍❤️

I enjoyed seeing a variety of God's creatures. Family oriented atmosphere with kid's carnival rides. A botanical garden is also available for a family picnic. Took almost 3 hours to venture throughout the well made landscape. Visitors with difficulty walking would be a challenge.

This zoo looks more well maintained than some of the others I've been to in Japan. There is a restraraunt next to the entrance which is a bit pricey, food was average but it was nice to sit down and relax before walking around. Price is 600 yen per adult and toddlers are free. This includes the zoo and botanical garden. Strollers are available for hire at 330 yen. One thing to note is that majority of the zoo section is uphill which can be challenging during hot days.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Hakata at the Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, a folk museum spread across three traditional Japanese townhouses. Step back in time to the late Meiji era as you explore replica buildings showcasing local crafts, historical photographs, and displays of traditional Hakata culture. Artisans offer demonstrations of weaving and other crafts, providing insight into daily life during the Meiji and Taisho eras.
came here while waiting to check into my hotel, there is a few series of buildings along the street worth seeing. we first saw a souvenir shop, then the machiya hall and the museum. museum entrance fee was 200 yen and there were 2 floors of exhibits. they prvide QR translation in english, chinese and korean for their exhibits. many of the exhibits of the history of hakata specifically in the meiji period were interactive and fun so we enjoyed it. there is a resting area and toilet in basement that also had very retro atmosphere. they also have experience workshops that changes almost daily which costs abt 2300 yen. we then went to the souvenir shop to take part in their experience workshops (separate from the museums). i did the calligraphy workshop for 1100 yen and it was really fun with lots of guidance from the staff. you can walk in and participate. the staff at the cafe counter will call the relevant staff down. we learnt a lot about the japanese language and characters through the experience. the souvenir shop also sold many interesting food/crafts and a cafe with coffee/matcha with a quiet relaxing atmosphere away frm the main street bustle. we also were in town just in time for the gion festival and the counter staff kindly directed us on when and where we can watch the festival proceedings during our stay.

A great museum showcasing Hakata's history. It features a two story museum, a rebuilt traditional Hakata house and a gift shop. It also has 2 experiences happening every day. The prices to enter are very reasonable and almost all exhibits come with a QR code for translation. The only slight negative is that the exhibits are smaller than expected.

Hakata Machiya Hometown Museum is a charming and immersive spot that offers a glimpse into Fukuoka’s rich history and traditional crafts. Housed in a beautifully preserved Meiji-era townhouse, the museum showcases artifacts, historical exhibits, and live demonstrations of local arts like Hakata weaving and doll-making. The interactive displays and friendly staff make it an engaging experience for history lovers. A great stop for those wanting to explore the cultural roots of Hakata!

The temple holds significant cultural and historical value as it was founded by Eisai upon his return from China, where he introduced Zen Buddhism and tea to Japan.
Find your peace here! This temple is in the middle of a beautiful park and near Gion subway station. It’s well maintained and simply beautiful. It was impressively empty with a few locals there.

Visited on October 12, 2025. Free admission. Relatively quiet, with only a few visitors, be it tourists or locals. A section was closed off to visitors. Serves as a quick tourist destination or for a quiet zen moment. Make sure to observe the rope connecting the memorial pillar and the three Buddhas.

This temple is the place of birth of Zen Buddhism in Japan. It was founded in 1195 and is enlightening many previous visit of more famous temples in Kyoto! I would go to Kyushu just for this visit ! Great setting , preempting a lot of what we believe we understand (or not) of zen , wabisabi and the rest…
Claude L — Google review
It is more serene than the other temples in Fukuoka, especially more serene than Kushida Shrine, that place was absolutely crowded. Saw a citrus (I will not call it orange because I might be wrong.) tree and took some pictures. Near the river we saw train.
French K — Google review
a large and tranquil temple complex and is believed to be the first Zen temple in Japan. a couple of magnificent wooden temples / buildings around, but all are not open to the public. after visiting the busy Tochoji Temple, we enjoyed the moment of quietness and calmness, and we wandered into the well-maintained garden with shady trees.
Ernest T — Google review
Shofukuji Temple is probably the earliest or the oldest Zen Sect Temple in Japan, and it was built in 1195, although its current Sanmon Gate was built in 1911. It worships Triad Buddhas for the Buddha of the Past, of the Present [which is Shakyamuni Buddha], and of the Future as main deities, and for Japanese Zen Buddhism, Three Buddhas are Shaka, Amida, and Miroku. While the Temple seems to be intended to preserve its original building structures, garden, ponds, and others as much as possible, the Temple does show signs of aging and damage in the Temple yard/site, especially for the area around the pond. Temple is free of charge for entrance, though there is NO bathroom or toilet inside the Temple. The Temple is in close walking distance from Tochoji Temple, but the road signs for the Shofukuji Temples are NOT well marked or posted for every major road which can be connected to the Temple.
Ben H — Google review
Plenty of harmless lazy but healthy looking cats relaxing on front entrance to the main temple building. Grounds are very nice, spacious and tranquil. Reasonably well kept up and worth a visit. A small pond and bridge for photos. Temple building itself was not accessible but observable from all over the inside grounds. Recommended

it is the oldest zen temple in Japan. we spent quite sometime here because the temple compound was so beautiful and serene. it had a conservative history though, connected to statesmen complicit in the WW II.

Hakata Traditional Craft and Design Museum, located near Kushida Jinja Shrine, showcases traditional Fukuoka and Hakata crafts such as woven textiles, dolls, spinning tops, and other handicrafts. The first-floor exhibition room hosts occasional workshops, exhibitions, and lectures related to these traditional crafts. On the second floor, visitors can explore permanent displays of Hakata Ori (woven textiles) and Hakata Ningyo (dolls).
You can see an old merchant house preserved and filled with traditional crafts. Sometimes there are demonstrations (e.g., weaving).
Toshi K — Google review
It was smaller than I expected, I thought there would be more textile items there.

It's basically a shop inside another museum. No longer in the merchants house in Hakada. Long way to go.
Caroline O — Google review
Quite small and almost a shop. Just a single room in a large museum
Neil B — Google review
A single corridor worth of crafts, which given a zero yen admission fee, is well worth it. You are really coming for the Fukuoka City museum, which is in the same building. You stay a little longer for the Traditional Crafts. Or, come for the free Wi-Fi in the FreeSpace room, also in the same building, do some work and then see a few crafts.
T. I — Google review
This place is much like the so called "cheese factory" in Hokkaido... a front for selling and nothing much on traditional crafts for tourists who come to see the "real" Japanese arts and crafts. It's a misinformed tourist attraction!

Nakasu Yatai Yokocho, also known as Food Stalls Street, is a vibrant and essential part of Fukuoka's food culture. With around 100 independently run yatai, it offers an authentic experience to mingle and connect with locals after sunset. The street is renowned for its iconic dishes such as Hakata ramen and delectable gyoza. To navigate the overwhelming choices, joining a local food tour can unveil hidden culinary gems in this lively district.
A really good experience, and a must go to if in Fukuoka, be prepared though it gets really busy and it can be quite cramped but that's just part of the experience! I forgot the name of the stall we visited but its usually the first stall set up when entering the canal food stall street, great Ramen , good beer and great conversation! I highly recommend checking this area out!
Matt L — Google review
What a fun experience. This was the best ramen I had during my entire trip. Service was very friendly and fairly quick! Some stalls have very long lines, but luckily we only had to wait about 10 minutes. Some stalls are very persistent in getting you to eat there which can come off a little aggressive but beyond this it was great!
Shannon M — Google review
We visited a food stall in Nakasu to experience the famous yatai dining. The atmosphere was lively, but we felt a bit rushed to sit down, place our order, and finish eating. I also didn’t realize that the food would be on the pricier side compared to what I expected from a street stall. Still, it was worth trying at least once for the experience.
Charm C — Google review
I understand this is a bit touristy for some people but we actually had some great foods, not too expensive and it is a very 'kawaii' place by the water. Definitely a recommendation! It might get busy and is a bit packed. We did see some stalls that were wildly more expensive, so just keep an eye out for that.
Josefien T — Google review
Got there in early so we didn't have to wait in massive lines. Most stalls sell similar items but it was a great experience. People were really friendly.

Bustling and sense of traditional stalls, super busy during the weekends. Roughly 10 stalls with ramens, grilled and beers. Very good vibes and nice place to catch up with friends 3 stars because feel like a tourist trap, with full languages menu and a bit pricey

We wanted to experience the food truck scene in Fukuoka. We tried takoyaki, yakitori, cheesy fries, buttered scallops and crabs, along with some drinks from different food trucks. Food were a bit too salty for my taste, so I suggest trying just 1-2 dishes. The flavor was also less than what I expected. Like other reviewers mentioned, it’s a bit pricey for what you get. Visited late September 2025.
LA F — Google review
It was great to experience the unique nakasu culture! The food was OK and felt a bit pricy (maybe we could have looked around a bit more before choosing a stall), but I'd still recommend to try it out at least once to support them:)

This is a comprehensive entertainment complex that opened in July 2020 between Fukuoka PayPay Dome and MARK IS shopping mall. The first floor houses the LIVE HKT48 Theater. On the third floor, you'll find a food hall offering a variety of cuisines and the MLB Café. The fourth floor is home to the Oh Sadaharu Baseball Museum, while the fifth floor features teamLab Forest Fukuoka. On the sixth floor, you can explore V-World AREA and the Unko Museum Powered by Bandai Namco. Finally, ZEKKEI BROTHERS is located on the seventh floor. During my recent visit, I tried TSURI-ZO, a personal-type rail coaster within ZEKKEI BROTHERS. It offered a thrilling experience with breathtaking views of the Genkai Sea from a high vantage point. The cost was 1800 yen, but the experience was well worth it. If you ever visit Fukuoka, I highly recommend this as a must-see destination.

This was our first time to go here. It is such a cool place for a full day of fun. We spent time at the team Lab Forrest, which was awesome. The projections and the subjects covered were amazing. My kids and us loved it. My wife and daughter rode the roller coaster and loved it. We did not make it to the giant slide but I wish we had. Lunch was very good and well priced and the VR arcade was lots of fun. I recommend checking this place out.

Attending a Fukuoka Hawks game at the Fukuoka Dome was a great experience. Everything was well-organized, easy to access, and reasonably priced. The stadium is clean and the atmosphere is lively. Highly recommended if you’re in Fukuoka and want to enjoy a fun, local sports event!

Hakozakigu is a historic shrine in Fukuoka, dating back to 923 and dedicated to the Hachiman god, as well as three ancient Japanese Emperors and Empresses. Despite being destroyed during the Mongol invasion of 1284, it was reconstructed and now features vibrant grounds with beautiful flower displays and numerous bo trees. The shrine also houses iconic antiquities such as a stone anchor used by Mongolian ships and a statue of the prominent Buddhist scholar Nichiren.
Three richly decorated mikoshi are permanently on display at Hakozakigū. They embody the three deities venerated here: Hachiman (Emperor Ōjin), Empress Jingū, and Tamayori-hime, key figures in the Shinto pantheon. These portable shrines are used during festivals to symbolically transport the gods.

An amazing peaceful place, I loved it , highly recommended. I would say western tourists need to be more respectful...when it says no photography in the main area when there is a ceremony happening put your cameras away FFS...that's a note to the Older Australian couple who ignored everyone and didn't care.

Nestled in a residential area is this bustling shrine with a large ground. There are restaurants and cafes opposite the shrine and sometimes you can see the planes overhead. Handwritten Goshuin available.
Michelle Y — Google review
This is an interesting and beautiful shrine but my visit was distinguished, in particular, by a hydrangea festival. I was fortunate to arrive early enough in the season to avoid the crowds and to benefit from the 100 yen entrance fee as opposed to the 300 yen that it will soon cost (this is May 26, 2024), but just after a rainstorm had cleared and just as the hydrangea were shifting from budding to blooming. Therefore, there were very few people, the lighting was great for taking photos and the flowers were not yet in full bloom, allowing for a more subtle experience of their beauty.
Reginald W — Google review
It’s in the middle of a residential area but there’s some eatery, other smaller temples and a small mall nearby. Temple compound is quite big and you can walk around the main building into the garden area. A very peaceful and serene place to visit. Handwritten goshuin is available.

Went to experience the Hojoyo Festival. Lots of stalls but selling almost the same things (with over-inflated prices). The parade was quite awesome. But otherwise the other shows were quite disappointing. There was not a single translation, so you just watch their actions and figure out (hopefully). It was raining and some shows were postponed / cancelled. I think they can do better with some basic announcements / translations in other languages.

This spot is usually packed with visitors, making it tough to get a clear photo—whether of the scenery or yourself. I got “lucky” when a sudden downpour cleared the area. Everyone left, and I managed to capture a few shots amidst the heavy rain and strong wind.

A very quiet and scenic spot to be. The sea was beautiful, though it has just stopped raining when e arrived. There are 2 parking spots across the road, and the one with the gantry does have a toilet in case anyone is looking for one after a long drive. It was empty when we arrived at around 10am, but there were tourists started coming in by the time we left. So, I reckon it will be good to visit early.

Suikyo Tenmangu Shrine, located in the heart of the city, is steeped in history and folklore. It is revered as the birthplace of Tenjin and is closely associated with Michizane Sugawara. Legend has it that when Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu from Kyoto, he gazed into the water and saw his haggard reflection, leading to the construction of this shrine.
Nice shrine with a park inside. Well preserved architecture and design of initial one.
Anupam K — Google review
The place is located near Tenjin and is a small and nice shine. However as per the previous comments, the staff is very unfriendly while we intend to purchase the 御守. He refused to response when we pointed those on the right hand side and keep saying Japanese 'Dameh' which I thought is all run out but in fact he just refuse that I couldn’t speak out the type of 御守 in Japanese as at last he scolded 'Speak Japanese'. I had went to many Shines jn Japan and this is the first time I've ever met such a rude staff where I think foreigners are not welcomw.
Veronica C — Google review
The water ritual shrine has no water in it. This shrine is relocated from its original location. There's an abundance of koi in the water. The paint is maintained but the buildings without paint are left in disrepair. Since the shrines lore comes in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean, and that part is kept crisp, I'll give it a bye. Stop by if you're in the area.
Khiem N — Google review

Respectfully don’t go to this shrine as a tourist, the monk is very strict and will not let you buy anything unless you go there for worship. I understand that but he was quite rude about it. He made it clear it was Japanese only…so, if you’re a foreigner, I’d skip it!
Blessedwithcolour — Google review
I think the shrine itself was quite beautiful and I'm happy I got to visit, but the priest berated a young traveler for no reason in front of me so it's hard for me to recommend this place to anyone, even Japanese.
柳澤ルーン — Google review
I’ve visited this place a few times and it’s relatively small and unremarkable. The history of the shrine is interesting. In my visits, I have found the staff to be a little unfriendly, which is different from my experiences in other shrines. Perhaps it has to do with the dates and times I’ve visited. Overall, it’s not worth a trip on its own, but if you’re in the area and have time to kill, it’s good for stopping in.

Yanagibashi Rengo Market, also known as Hakata's Kitchen, is a traditional marketplace with over 100 years of history in Fukuoka. It offers a compact setting where you can find an array of local meats, seafood, and produce. The market is famous for its fresh seafood caught daily and a wide variety of local products.
Let's be fair and not compare this small market with the big ones. While waiting for our turn at one of the eatery, I managed to venture 80% of the market, sans the small alleyways. As Hakata is famous for mentaiko, there are many stalls that sells them. Lining the main alley are packaged seafood, ready to cook food, sweets, eateries but most importantly, one of my favourite slimy vegetables beside nameko which is 順菜 can be found here! So quaint!
Alvin L — Google review
We visited on a Saturday around 2 PM and noticed that only a few stalls were open at the time. The market is relatively small and can be explored in about 30 minutes or less. Compared to larger markets like Kuromon, this one is more compact, but it does have its charm. There are a few small restaurants offering chirashidon and sashimi rice bowls. During our visit, there was one stall serving fresh sashimi for immediate consumption, with a small table set up where you could enjoy it with soy sauce and wasabi—it was fresh and tasty. We also tried the stall selling assorted fish cakes. If you mention you’ll eat them right away, they’ll warm them up for you on the spot, which was a nice touch. The market includes a small lounge area with seating, a vending machine for drinks, and a restroom for convenience. While it may not be a must-visit if you're tight on time, it's worth checking out if you're nearby and in the mood for good quality sashimi at an affordable price.

A small market not far from the subway station. The market sells a variety of fresh produce such as seafood and fruits + dried goods including tea leaves. There are also several stores that sells seafood bowls which are really fresh and affordable.

Quite a short street but full of mainly shops selling seafood though there is a shop selling tea and teapots while there is another selling seafood and mushrooms. There are also three main restaurants selling seafood don with soba noodles or miso soup. Worth a visit for a quick and unassuming meal.

A little market street that makes for a short exploration into a market with both locals and tourists. Stalls here sell mainly fresh seafood and sashimi, and vegetables (some quite large!). It's not big in any sense, but perhaps that's part of its charm.

At the time of my visit (3 May 2025, Sat), only the front yard is open to visitors. Nevertheless, one may have glimpse of the Buddhist temple's traditional architecture by looking through the bars. It would be wonderful place to visit if the inner court is open to tourists, but the tranquility of the temple may be sacrificed. It is located in the older part of Fukuoka city, which has fewer tourists than the shopping areas around it.

Jotenji is a serene and historic temple tucked away from the busy streets, offering a quiet escape in the heart of Fukuoka. The beautifully maintained grounds, traditional architecture, and peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for reflection or a calm stroll. Jotenji Temple in Fukuoka is temple of Zen's school Buddhism, and in Japan it is defined as Rinzai school's Tofukuji sect. It was believed that the Temple was built in 1242, although it was expanded and renovated few times with Korean Buddhism influence. The Temple has an excellent beautiful Zen stone garden which is generally NOT open the public, except a few religious days. But the worshippers or visitors can see them from the side door of Jotenji-dori [avenue]. For visitors, they can really find tranquility and beauty in the Temple zone or field block, even without being able to enter the garden, because it doesn't have many visitors even in weekends.

Atago Shrine, dating back to 72 A.D., is the oldest shrine in Fukuoka and one of three major shrines in Japan dedicated to the god of Atago. Perceived as having healing powers, it attracts millions of visitors annually seeking good luck and fortune while banishing negative influences. Situated on a 60-meter hill, this Shinto shrine offers stunning views of Fukuoka and Hakata Bay, especially at night when Fukuoka Tower is illuminated.
One of my favorite shrines to visit in Fukuoka! Nestled on top of a hill, it provides a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city by providing you time to relax and reset your mind. The main highlight was the beautiful panoramic view of the ocean with the buildings below surrounding the coast. You could also get some regular and limited edition goshuin here as well. Overall, highly recommend spending some time here to soak in the peace and tranquility with an epic view of the ocean and breather in the fresh air without being overwhelmed by tourists!

Atago Shrine, located in the middle of Fukuoka City, promises to be a magnificent retreat. Atago Shrine is a magnificent example of how history and modernity can be harmoniously combined. It is situated on a hill in the middle of Fukuoka City, which is a bustling city. The most recent time I went to this cultural paradise, which offered a mesmerizing combination of Japanese history and a stunning panoramic view of Fukuoka's shimmering city lights, I was completely captivated by something that I saw. As I made my way up the stone-paved route that led to the Atago Shrine, the loud and chaotic mood of the city gradually dissipated, and it was gradually replaced by a calm and peaceful feeling. A place where time appeared to slow down was indicated by the torii gate, which stood towering and imposing as it marked the entrance to the area. A symbolic change into a domain where old traditions live happily with the modern urban was represented by the climb up the hill, which was more than simply a physical rise. When I arrived to the highest point of the temple, I was met with the breathtaking sight of the Atago temple. The structure of the shrine reflected the grace and elegance that are typical of Japanese shrines. Both the precise architecture and the tranquil atmosphere contributed to the creation of a perceptible feeling of spirituality, which invited guests to connect with the cultural wealth that is characteristic of Japan. One of the most memorable experiences I had throughout my trip was being able to see the transformation from the daytime to the breathtaking sight of Fukuoka City lighted into the nighttime. At the moment when the sun was sinking below the horizon, the contemporary skyline of the city came to life with a magnificent exhibition of lights. From the vantage point of the Atago Shrine, I was presented with a breathtaking panorama that harmoniously combined the lively energy of modern-day metropolitan life with the centuries-old customs that have been practiced for millennia. The contrast of the ancient temple against the shimmering background of Fukuoka's new buildings was a sight to see. There was a beautiful tapestry of hues that was created by the city's glittering lights that reached all the way to the horizon. This created a feeling of awe and appreciation in the viewer. At the same time, the Atago Shrine offered a tranquil setting for silent contemplation. In addition to the well-kept gardens, traditional lanterns, and old trees, the general peacefulness was strengthened, providing a much-needed break from the frenetic pace of the city. It has become abundantly clear that the Atago Shrine not only functions as a cultural beacon but also as a sanctuary for those who are looking for peace and quiet in the middle of the hectic life of the city. Atago Shrine is a secret jewel that elegantly knits together the threads of Japan's rich cultural tapestry with the current vitality of Fukuoka City. In conclusion, this shrine is a hidden gem. A trip to the Atago Shrine is an absolute need, regardless of whether you are a fan of the arts, a devotee of the natural world, or just looking for a breathtaking panorama that will capture your spirit. Visitors will leave with a strong respect for the beauty and resiliency of Japanese culture as a result of their experience at this charming retreat, where the past and the present are in perfect harmony.

Great views over the city and on good day you can make really nice photos. We had plenty of time in Fukuoka and visited this shrine twice to make some photos and to enjoy the scenenry. This is one of Japan's most potent deities is the fire deity, who lives on mountains, they serve as the residents' guardians as well as the cities' protectors. Both in the past and the present, fire has been used for cooking and lighting, the god Atago-Sama, as he is sometimes called, is the subject of the Atago Shinto Shrine. One of Japan's three principal shrines is called Atago Shrine.Tokyo and Iwana are where the other two are situated, the Washio Shrine was its previous name. This shrine was constructed in the seventeenth century.

Definitely a good lookout spot to Fukuoka city. Required a little hike up a small hill. Go down at Muromi station. There are some crane nests along the walk on the tree top. Fantastic view as the reward.

Fukuoka Anpanman Children's Museum in Mall is a vibrant and engaging play area located within a mall. It features interactive activities, frequent dancing shows, and various play equipment for kids to enjoy. The highlight of the museum is the Yanase Takashi Theater, where children can watch live performances featuring Anpanman and his friends. This indoor play park celebrates the popular cartoon superhero Anpanman, who has been captivating audiences in Japan since 1988.
The museum defined to many parts such as the sand pit, slide and the hand craft section. There are shows sometimes, it’s the favourite part of my kids. There are restaurants, ice cream and pop corn, so no need to worry about the kids get hungry before or during playing. My kids like it so much. They spend 2 days, each day 3 hours playing there. Therefore I got some time shopping in DONKI. PS older daughter is 7 and the younger is 5. Both of them like the museum so much.

It has fun indoor playground for the toddler to run around, and also short shows by the characters. The characters also come out for meet and greet!
Shuting — Google review
It feels different from when I went there four years ago. There are some changes to the rides and some shops seem to be closed? But children are still very happy to go there. The souvenirs in the souvenir shop seem to be exactly the same as four years ago. There are no new products launched. Now it is summer and there is a water play area, but there is an additional charge.

Nice place for the kids(3-8yrs), you can take photos with many characters, something special snacks, and the play area for kids to release energy😍 much appreciate the photo taking service and the Anpanman preformance show!! Strongly recommend to the family trip!

pricy ticket for a playground. i guess if you could watch the show then it’s slightly more worth it. otherwise only suitable for kids 1-3 year old.

My little guy looooooved the Anpanman museum!! It's so cute and if you like to collect Anpanman items, they have so many shops inside! They have a show, rides, crafts, and play stores for the kids. They even have a bakery just like the one from the store, very cute. If you are a fan, even without kids, I recommend visiting. This one is in Fukuoka but I believe there are 4 more throughout mainland Japan. I know another one is in Yokohama which we will be visiting as well so I will compare the two. Enjoy!

Not a museum as what it advertises but a large children playground. Entrance fee is rather expensive goven that there isn't a lot of things to do or play especially if you don't read or speak japanese. For young kids under 4, it is probably a good place to burn their excess energy

Shiraito Waterfall is a family-friendly destination nestled in the city of Itoshima. The 24-meter high and 12-meter wide waterfall is located about halfway to Mt. Hagane, offering a serene atmosphere surrounded by hydrangeas and nature. Visitors can enjoy fishing opportunities, delicious food with a view of the waterfall, and the chance to relax amidst the high-level minus eons generated by the falls.
This place is beautiful, n felt so cool under the hot weather in summer.... Nice experience but the place isn't that big, you can visit many places around this side in a day. We stayed for around an hour.

Shiraito Falls is a really good tourist spot and definitely worth visiting. The waterfalls are very beautiful and the surroundings are peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. They also have a special kind of soba here that you should definitely try, it’s really delicious and unique to the area. You can also go fishing nearby, and the fish tastes amazingly fresh and good. Overall, it’s a great place to spend time and enjoy both nature and local food.

Beautiful little water fall, it was nice during the weekday because almost nobody was there. They offer food and have drinks, you can even pay 3000 yen to go fishing and catch your own fish.

Okay.... Visited 7 March 2024 Free admission and free parking. There are 3 levels of parking, the upper level is closest to the waterfall. The area around the waterfall is very small. There's also trails that can be hiked if you have time. The drive up the steep narrow road is crazy, long and dangerous. There's two different roads to the waterfall, one is ridiculous, the other is much better and safer. Google map will probably choose the worst one. There are way too many blind spots and not enough mirrors on that road. Please drive carefully. Not recommended on weekends or holidays. Best on weekdays and right before closing. On my visit the restaurants and small fishing pool were closing, so I can't comment on those. The waterfall itself is surprisingly easy to access and photograph if there isn't a crowd. It was very empty when I visited. Beautiful and relaxing view with fresh air. Will calm your spirits and take away your worries. Overall: Recommended to visit but choose your visit time wisely. This place looks like it will be a long wait on a busy day. I can see visitors getting stuck in line on that long hill.

Visitors can enjoy green tea and wagashi sweets at the main tea house while overlooking the picturesque pond.
beautiful and tranquil park with a tea house. the elderly staff is friendly and helpful. we had the whole place to ourselves part of the time. the price of entry is 100 yen per person, but it's really priceless since such tranquility is non-existent in more popular cities.

One of the famous gardens, Yusentei. It was my first visit in ten years, and it was peaceful. They still sold matcha, and I grabbed some red bean porridge. I strolled around, enjoying the leisurely pace, and lost track of time. Spent a relaxed afternoon. Since it's tucked away in a local village, walking along the streets gives you a real taste of Japan. It's a pity there weren't as many elementary school students as there were ten years ago. #garden - BOFF

Pretty little garden in autumn. No hordes of tourists as it is not a major tourist attractuon. Very small though. A bit of hassle to get there - especially if one is not familiar with Japanese public bus transport. Go only if you have spare time in Fukuoka.

It's peaceful and serene, but quite small and a way out of town (25 mins by bus). The mosquitoes are an issue too, so I'd say it isn't really worth the trip out except in the autumn, when I'm sure the fall colours make it stunning

(Translated by Google) I visited the Oh Sadaharu Baseball Museum. I had seen Oh's history once before in the old building, but seeing the exhibits again was moving, as it really brought home his greatness and the weight of his life dedicated to baseball. Oh's records and related items are definitely worth a closer look. The highlight of this visit was the 89 Park, where you can get some exercise. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the various baseball-related attractions. We particularly enjoyed the Hawks DASH section, where you could compete against current players in a speed race. I ran as fast as I could, but my result was nowhere near that of the league's top runner, Shuto. I was able to experience the power of professional baseball once again, and my son seemed to enjoy it, so I was glad. However, my muscles were sore the next day. While this was a sign of good exercise, overindulging in the interactive attractions can be exhausting afterward. This facility is recommended not only for baseball fans, but also for people who enjoy physical activity and families with children.

Ryuguji, previously known as Ukimido, is a temple with a fascinating legend. It is believed that in 1222, the temple became the resting place for a mermaid caught in a fishing net, symbolizing good fortune. The name "Ryuguji" originates from the phrase "Ningyo ha Ryugu no Tsukai," meaning a mermaid envoy from Ryuguji.

The remains of this mermaid were enshrined in Yonggungsa Temple.” It is said that due to a legend related to the sea, it became an important place to pray for the well-being of local fishermen and merchants. It is said to have been founded in 724 during the Nara period. There is a mermaid legend that during the Kamakura period, a giant mermaid was caught in a fisherman's net off the coast of Hakata and buried in this temple. Mermaids are said to be messengers of the Dragon Palace, so the temple was named Ryugu-ji Temple at that time, and the mountain name was given to it as Reizei-san by the imperial envoy Reizei Chunagon, who was sent from the capital to report the mermaid. The current Reizei-cho town also comes from this place. Even today, there is a mermaid mound in the temple grounds to hold a memorial for mermaids, and what are said to be mermaid bones are enshrined in the main hall. While it originally focused on local arts and crafts such as Hakata weaving and traditional paintings, the museum now also includes modern art. Visitors can explore works by contemporary Kyushu- and Fukuoka-based artists. Additionally, the museum features an art library and a glass-enclosed cafe for a complete cultural experience.
Beautiful museum, both as a piece of architecture, and as a collection of fine art pieces. Situated by the banks of Lake Ohori, with some of the open air sculptures facing the lake and the wind. There is also a restaurant and a cafeteria, so no need to hurry. The museum shop has some lovely craft articles.

Main exhibit was okay. Fukuoka Asian museum for 200yen was more my taste and style but this was more modern/western contemporary art. Loved the Japanese artists the best. Main attraction was the garden. You have to see the traditional garden.

A free (rather small) museum featuring local artist. Unfortunately, lack of English explanation for someone who doesn't write/read Japanese like me. But you can still enjoy some pretty good collections even if you don't understand the title or the information

Affordable exhibit is small but worth the money. The rolling exhibit costs more so we did not try that part.

A little expensive as you have to pay a separate price to enter each exhibit, but the building is v clean and quiet. Great place to avoid the crowds. Free parking.

Performing arts theater
Hakataza Theater is a renowned venue in Kyushu, offering a diverse range of performances including kabuki, musicals, and dramatic theater productions. With a seating capacity of 1500 spread across three floors, the theater hosts much-talked-about plays and projects on a monthly basis. The stage, measuring 20m x 21m, is well-equipped to accommodate various genres with elaborate settings.
This theater is amazing. You can watch Kabuki for a few months a year.Performing arts are beautiful and create good memories. The theater's facilities are excellent, with high-quality boxed lunches for sale and plenty of restrooms. I recommend purchasing lunch before it starts.During breaks, you can eat at your seat or in the rest area.

As soon as you arrive at Hakataza Theater, there's no need to search, the Ticket Office is clearly visible, with automated machines for online reservations. You don’t need to enter the theater itself: ticket pickup is done outside, left of the main entrance. The interface is intuitive, and the process takes less than a minute if you have your information ready. If you're unsure about anything, the staff is available just behind the counter nearby. 👍
Big D — Google review
The theater itself was lovely, all of the vendors were nice, and the performance was absolutely amazing. Stunning attention to detail with the ability to entertain someone that knows only some of the language being used. The staff were very accommodating and kind and the bento was delicious!!

There isn't a bad seat in the house, acoustics are excellent and at intermissions, all sorts of booths selling tasty snacks, meals and drinks. I've been here for two musicals, 1879 and Marie Antoinette and been thrilled with the place both times. It's well located and easy to find.

Hakata Old Town Area, once the bustling trade hub of Japan's largest port city during the Middle Ages, now stands as a testament to its rich history and culture. Strolling through its peaceful streets reveals ancient temples and shrines, a lively shopping arcade, traditional crafts, and performing arts. The area offers an authentic retro vibe with tranquil temples and rustic streetscapes juxtaposed against Fukuoka's central business district.
Beautiful and peaceful historical tourism spot where you can learn how important Kyushu’s role in receiving and spreading culture from outside Japan during ancient times

Peaceful place, perfect for a short walk as there's not that much to see (seeing everything takes around 10 minutes), so it's good to have some other attractions prepared for the day as well. There's quite a few bars at a 15 min walkable distance and it's also close to the hakata station which is a plus 👍🏻
サナ — Google review
A nice and peaceful area in the heart of Fukuoka, offering a glimpse into the city's history and traditional charm. While there isn’t a lot to see compared to larger historical districts, the area is well-preserved, with beautiful old temples, and shrines that reflect Hakata’s rich heritage. It’s a great spot for a quiet stroll, away from the busy shopping districts, and provides a more relaxed atmosphere. The narrow streets, wooden buildings, and historic landmarks make it a lovely place to explore, especially for those interested in history and culture. Though not a must-visit for everyone, it’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area and looking for a peaceful escape with a touch of Fukuoka’s past.

Visitors can enjoy various sports activities presented in a gaming format, including team-based puzzle-solving and parkour courses with obstacles.
(Translated by Google) Visited: January 23, 2025 I was taking my 8-year-old out and looking for an amusement park. I originally wanted to go to Kumamoto's Green Land, but the ride alone took two hours... Luckily, I found Lalaport. Since I was going to see Gundam and do some shopping, I decided to take my son there! I highly recommend this place for weekday shopping! 1. They sell a limited number of One-Day Passes on weekdays, and we were one of the first groups to get one. 2. Unlimited entry and exit, and lockers for storage. 3. There's a restroom inside the park, so no need to go outside. 4. There are so many games, and the staff will guide you through them. 5. Perhaps because I was the only one with my son, he got bored of some of the games after a while. It would be more fun if we had more groups of kids playing together! 6. Many games are suitable for adults, making it perfect for all ages! If you're in Fukuoka and the weather is too hot, too cold, or rainy, this is a highly recommended place to play! This is an interactive game center located inside Lalaport Fukuoka shopping mall. It offers a variety of fun games suitable for elementary school children, especially those in lower grades. Adults can also join in the fun, making it a great place for the whole family to have a good time. While it may seem like there are many games at first glance, the actual selection is not that extensive. You'll likely experience most of the games within an hour or so. It would be even better if there was a wider variety of games available.

Aburayama Citizen's Forest, situated halfway up Aburayama Hill in Fukuoka, is a nature spot offering immersive experiences in all four seasons. The well-maintained area features forested slopes with trails leading to waterfalls and lookouts, making it popular for hiking and climbing. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant fall colors and cherry blossoms while exploring the park's picturesque landscapes.
Amazing views from various observation points, generally well maintained trails apart from a few - but overall a reasonably challenging hilly hike. I spent 6 hours walking 5 kilometres in a random-ish circle while also staying on the northeast side of the forest and spending a lot of time looking for birds. If you are looking for entrances/exits, use the places with parking as a guide. If you go to where the café and ecology centre are, you can pick up a map which is very helpful.
R T — Google review
Is a very well maintained area. If you are driving here, you could park near the entrance and a parking charge @300¥ for 3 hours. Well developed track provides you to walk the park in a loop, but if you're going to try to walk to the hill top, you may expect more than 2000 steps from the maintenance management office. Is better to bring along hiking equipment with you. There are picnic areas, and it is easy to find the toilets.

Jigyo Central Park is a serene oasis nestled next to the Fukuoka PayPay Dome Stadium, making it an ideal spot for those looking to escape the bustling crowds of more popular parks like Ohori Park during cherry blossom season. This hidden gem offers stunning views of cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn leaves, all set against lush green grass. The park's well-maintained paths invite peaceful morning strolls or jogs, providing a calm atmosphere perfect for relaxation.
In Fukuoka, the place where you can see cherry blossoms the most during the April cherry blossom season is Ohori Park, but Ohori Park is crowded with huge crowds. If you want to see cherry blossoms in a quiet place, I recommend ligyo Central Park, a hidden cherry blossom spot in Fukuoka. Jigyo Central Park is right next to Fukuoka PayPay Dome Stadium, where you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and yellow autumn leaves in autumn with green grass.

A beautiful quiet park. If you're going nearby anyway, either for paypaydome or boss e-zo, why not go here? It has aesthetic value for photos and just a really nice place to chill overall.
Bench M — Google review
Jigyō Central Park is a great spot for a peaceful morning walk. I went early and saw a handful of joggers getting their day started — it has that calm, quiet energy you want in a city park. The paths are well-kept, and there’s a nice mix of greenery, open space, and shaded areas, which makes it pleasant no matter the season. One of the standout features is a bridge that caught my eye — it’s got a sleek, modern design that reminded me of a lite version of the bridge near the Eiffel Tower featured in Inception. It’s not an exact replica, but the lines and vibe had a similar cinematic feel. Definitely something that makes the park a bit more memorable. There are benches spaced throughout, perfect for sitting with a coffee or just people-watching. I also noticed a few unusual sculptures and figures scattered around — kind of abstract, kind of whimsical — giving the park a slightly quirky personality. It’s not a tourist attraction, but that’s part of the charm. Jigyō Central Park feels local, lived-in, and quietly beautiful. If you’re nearby and want a breath of fresh air or a walk to clear your head, this park delivers.
