Pagoda

Nestled in the heart of Yangon, the Shwedagon Pagoda stands as a breathtaking testament to Myanmar's rich cultural heritage. Towering at 99 meters and adorned with an impressive 11 tons of pure gold, this historic Buddhist temple is not only the oldest pagoda in the country but also one of the most revered religious sites globally. Dating back over 2,600 years, it houses sacred relics from four past Buddhas, including strands of hair from Gautama Buddha himself.
After sunset, we stepped barefoot up Singuttara Hill, the city lights of Yangon fading behind us as the golden glow of Shwedagon rose ahead. Even in the dimming light, it felt like a world apart. A place alive with quiet devotion and flickering candles, as if the whole hill breathed with something ancient. Parts of the complex were under repair, as the recent earthquake left its mark in cracks and bamboo scaffolding. But even through the signs of damage, the stupa stood tall, nearly 100 meters of gold catching the last traces of daylight, still radiant, still sacred. We moved slowly, clockwise, like the others, past smaller pagodas and shrines, some draped in hessian, others lit by oil lamps. There was a hush in the air, not silence, but something deeper like a respect, a resilience. This place, even wounded, still held its power. They say it houses relics of four Buddhas, including eight hairs of Gautama himself. And in that moment, with the night wrapped around us and the scent of incense rising, it wasn’t hard to believe. I paused to hold time for the victims: the ones lost to the quake, and the many more bound under the weight of oppression. A quiet offering. A silent wish. And beneath that golden spire, I let gratitude swell in me for the unseen hands and hearts that helped heal my own, for the goodwill of the universe that still reaches out, even when things break. Spirituality, beauty, and the weight of centuries all met us there, even after the ground had shifted beneath it.

Probably one of the most best experiences I had in Yangon, visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda. Pictures online don't capture how truly majestic and magnificent this structure is. The way it glows in the daytime or at night, will simply capture your attention everytime.
Steve — Google review
The Shwedagon Pagoda is Myanmar’s most sacred Buddhist site, a 112 meter tall golden stupa in Yangon. It was constructed 2,600 years ago which is now the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. Houses relics of the past four Buddhas, including eight hairs of the current Buddha, making it a pilgrimage site of global importance. The pagoda complex is adorned with thousands of gold plates, diamonds, rubies, and other significant stones. We were so lucky that it was sunny the day we went since it is rainy season in Yangon and it was raining most of the time while we were there. It was scorching hot that day, we cannot stay for more than an hour to see the huge complex. I was only able to take few photos as we were both melting and the tile floor can get very hot, I was walking like a kangaroo on barefoot. No footwear allowed upon entering. I was in awe with the beauty and history of the pagoda and other temples. Truly thankful to be able to see this complex for once in my life travels. #labonitaviajera #iamkbonita #shwedagonpagoda

The place is huge and very impressive. The ticket is 25000 and you have to pay in cash and ATM is only inside(!), so you can’t get inside unless you have cash. Girls who give tickets won’t let me in, I was lucky a guide helped me P.S. the ticket says that the price is 10000, so not about legitimacy of their posters

The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. It is also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda, is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. The stupa is made of genuine gold plates
CK C — Google review
The Shwedagon Pagoda is without a doubt the most iconic and sacred site in all of Myanmar. Towering majestically over Yangon, this golden stupa is not only a religious monument but a symbol of the nation’s spiritual heart and cultural pride. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is deeply moving. The pagoda glows with a brilliant golden hue, especially breathtaking at sunrise or sunset when the light dances across its gilded surface. Believed to enshrine relics of four Buddhas, including strands of Gautama Buddha’s hair, the site holds immense spiritual significance for Buddhist devotees. The complex itself is vast and filled with richly decorated shrines, prayer halls, and smaller stupas. Every detail—from the ornate carvings to the flickering candlelight —reflects centuries of devotion and artistry. The soft chanting of monks, the scent of incense, and the sight of locals and pilgrims in prayer create an atmosphere of deep peace and reverence. Shwedagon is not just a place to visit—it’s an experience to absorb. Whether you're there for spiritual reasons, cultural exploration, or simply to admire its architectural splendor, the pagoda leaves a lasting impression. It is a must-see landmark that captures the soul of Myanmar. The Shwedagon Pagoda is located on Singuttara Hill in Dagon Township, Yangon, Myanmar. Towering over the city, it can be seen from many vantage points, especially near Kandawgyi Lake. To reach the Shwedagon Pagoda, tourists can take taxis or buses from downtown Yangon, such as Line 8 or Line 11. While buses stop nearby, the easiest and most convenient option is by taxi, which typically takes about 15–20 minutes. There are four main entrances: South, West, North, and East. The southern entrance is wheelchair accessible and includes an elevator. International tourists are required to pay an entrance fee of approximately 10,000 Kyat. Opening hours: Daily from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Things to know before visiting: Visitors must dress appropriately, wear long pants or a skirt that covers the knees and a shirt with sleeves that covers the shoulders. Avoid tight or revealing clothing. Shoes and socks must be removed before entering. Best time to visit: Early morning or evening—to enjoy the cool air and stunning light, especially during sunset when the golden pagoda gleams against the sky. It’s customary to walk clockwise around the pagoda, refrain from loud conversation, and avoid pointing your feet at sacred objects. There is a tourist service center, and inside the museum, you'll find displays of religious antiques and historical exhibitions.

Very nice experience to go here in the evening. Last time I went in the daytime so it was another kind of experience. In brief, very nice and beautiful. Very big place so you should spare at least 1 hour to be here.

Nestled in the bustling heart of downtown Yangon, the Sule Pagoda stands as a stunning testament to Myanmar's rich history and culture. This gilded Buddhist stupa, believed to be around 2,500 years old, is not only an architectural marvel with its ornate exterior but also a significant landmark in Burmese politics. It has served as a gathering point for pivotal pro-democracy movements throughout history.
The Sule Pagoda is a beautiful landmark located right in the heart of downtown Yangon. According to legend, it was built during the time of Buddha, adding a deep historical and spiritual significance to its charm. The pagoda’s golden exterior gleams in the sunlight, making it a striking sight amidst the bustling city. Entry for foreigners is 10,000 Kyat, and its central location makes it easy to visit while exploring Yangon. It’s a wonderful place to experience the city’s cultural and religious heritage.

The biggest and most respected deity in Myanmar Sule Pagoda is a pagoda built over 2,000 years ago. It is a golden octagonal pagoda located in the center of the roundabout in Yangon. The base of the pagoda has a Buddha image for each day of birth to worship according to tradition. As for praying to the deity, it can grant a blessing. There is a secret: you must pray only once to use it as power for worship. Do not change your mind. Foreigners entrance fee: 10,000 Kyat/person.
Prachyan S — Google review
If you are in Yangon, this is a place you should visit. There is a park nearby where you can relax and unwind. The scenery near the pagoda is also very beautiful.

Nice from the outside, near Independence statue. I dropped by in the evening so I did not come inside. Will do next time.
Forelsket S — Google review
Sule Pagoda is an ancient octagonal pagoda located in the heart of the city, surrounded by many roads leading to it. It is a sacred place situated at the center of travel in Yangon, making it a significant cultural and spiritual landmark. Around the base of the pagoda, there are Buddha images designated for each day of birth, allowing visitors to worship according to their birth day. The surroundings of the pagoda are incredibly beautiful, with the golden pagoda standing in striking contrast to the green-roofed buildings nearby. To visit the pagoda, visitors must remove their shoes outside, as is customary in every temple in Myanmar. Shoes and socks must be taken off at the entrance as a sign of respect. Sule Pagoda is a must-visit destination for those who want to experience the spiritual and cultural essence of Yangon, offering both a serene atmosphere and a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage.

Sule Pagoda is a must-visit gem in the heart of Yangon! This stunning octagonal stupa, believed to be over 2,500 years old, enshrines a sacred relic of the Buddha, making it a significant pilgrimage site. Surrounded by vibrant streets and colonial architecture, the atmosphere is both lively and serene. Visiting during sunset offers breathtaking views as the golden spire glistens against the sky. Don’t miss this iconic landmark; it’s not just a pagoda but a symbol of resilience and history in Myanmar!
Aung ( — Google review
Visited November 14, 2024 Sule Pagoda, located in the heart of Yangon, is a stunning testament to Myanmar’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage. My visit today left a lasting impression, although the experience was slightly hampered by the midday heat. The golden stupa of Sule Pagoda stands out amidst the city’s busy streets, glowing brightly even under the harsh sun. Its unique octagonal shape and intricate details reflect centuries of craftsmanship. With a history dating back over 2,000 years, it remains an essential spiritual landmark and a beautiful sight to behold. Inside the pagoda, the serene atmosphere was a welcome relief from the chaos of the streets outside. Devotees were quietly praying and making offerings, adding to the sacred ambiance. While the peacefulness inside was soothing, the heat during my pre-lunch visit made it harder to fully enjoy the experience. The entrance fee for foreigners is 10,000 MMK, which is well worth it for the opportunity to explore this historic site. However, I strongly advise against walking to the pagoda, especially during the late morning or midday. The heat was intense, and it made the journey exhausting—opting for a taxi or Grab would be a much better choice. A few meters away from the pagoda, there is a viewpoint that offers a great perspective of Sule Pagoda surrounded by the bustling cityscape. It’s a fantastic spot for taking photos and appreciating the contrast between the ancient stupa and modern Yangon. Sule Pagoda is a must-visit for its stunning architecture and spiritual significance. While the midday heat and surrounding city chaos can be challenging, the pagoda’s beauty and the nearby viewpoint make it a rewarding experience. Just plan your visit carefully, and you’ll appreciate this iconic landmark fully.

Bogyoke Aung San Market is a bustling bazaar housed in a colonial building, offering a wide array of items such as antiques, jewelry, art, and food. It's situated near attractions like the 2,200-year-old Sule Pagoda and vibrant night markets. The market has almost a century of history and is a popular spot for tourists to purchase souvenirs like Burmese cloth, clothing, and jewelry.
If you are looking for precious gems, jewelry, clothes, crafts made of stone or wood, this market is your place. There are also money exchange offices with good rates. There are also places to eat or have a refreshing orange or avocado juice.
Blanca R — Google review
This is the best place to buy gifts or souvenirs. They offer anything from traditional garments, shirts and polos (I bought a few and they’re of good quality!), jewelry, paintings, and other trinkets. Definitely a must go place for tourists wanting to see handmade local crafts and souvenirs!
Janno — Google review
Extremely authentic place to visit if you are into arts. Looks like a big art gallery, a mix of modernity and past. Lots of things can be purchased there from jewellery to paintings. There are also dining experiences available. Lots of public restrooms. Overall, interesting calm walk-through the whole market.
Daniil M — Google review
Traditional market but it was not a happy feeling after I got back in the hotel checking my purchases. After converting what I’ve paid for 5 items I bought, surely I paid 3X for what it should be. I just wish people or sellers are honest and will not do their dirty tricks to earn more. This type of experience shoo tourist away to buy. Sad, because I’m sure not all sellers are bad and must have decent sellers out there. Negative experience from visiting this market for me but in a positive note, I hope what I paid extra, helped them in a way. Overall, it is a place to buy souvenirs. Good for photo ops, with its natural local charm. #iamkbonita #labonitaviajera #myanmar

I really enjoyed my visit to Bogyoke Aung San Market! It’s a great place to walk around and explore, with so many interesting shops selling jewelry, gemstones, handicrafts, and beautiful Burmese fabrics. There’s also a good mix of souvenirs and local products, so it’s perfect for picking up something unique. The market has a lively but relaxed atmosphere, and the vendors are friendly and not too pushy. If you enjoy bargaining, you can get some great deals! There are also food stalls where you can try some local snacks. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Yangon! I’d love to come back and explore more.

Bogyoke Aung San Market in Yangon is an exceptional market, even for someone who isn’t usually a fan of touristy markets. It’s well-organized, making it easy to browse, and the selection is impressive. You’ll find beautiful items at reasonable prices, from jewelry and textiles to souvenirs. It’s a pleasure to explore, with a clean and orderly setup that sets it apart from many other markets. Definitely worth a visit!

Interesting market. Selling Various items from gems, fabrics, antiques, souvenirs etc. Visitors need to bargain for the best price
Mohd H — Google review
Huge bustling market which is a lot of fun to simply just wander around or pick up souvenirs and really anything else you'd ever want to buy. It can be a bit daunting to find your way around, but it's perfectly safe and there are always lots of other tourists wandering around as well. I bought a couple souvenirs and found prices were totally reasonable without needing to bargain beforehand.

Bodies of Water
Inya Lake is a serene and picturesque destination nestled in the heart of Yangon, offering a perfect blend of tranquility and romance. This expansive artificial lake, originally created by British colonial rulers as a water reservoir, has become the largest inland body of water in the region. Its scenic shores are lined with beautifully maintained parks and gardens, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls or quiet picnics. Visitors can enjoy various recreational activities such as rowing or taking sunset cruises from the local sailing club.
Very scenic and picturesque lake. The western side of the lake along Pyay Road is popular with locals and visitors and is a great place for sunsets. If you are there in the evening, bring insect repellent to protect yourself from some very pesky bugs. It is possible to visit the lake via the colorful but very slow Circular Railway, stopping at Hledan Centre station. From the station, you can take a cab or walk half an hour to the lake. If you decide to walk, the Hledan Market and the University of Yangon make for some worthwhile stops.

Kandawgyi Lake is a 150-acre artificial reservoir located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. It is surrounded by the Kandawgyi Natural Park and Yangon Zoological Gardens, making it one of the city's popular attractions. The lake features walking paths, offering picturesque views and a relaxing atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.
There are many things to do around the lake area, including visiting a couple of public parks, a plant nursery area, going for a walk around the lake, trying the food at one of the many restaurants around the lake, sitting in the shade and enjoying live music played and sung by park revelers, jogging, hiking, eating lunch, picnicking. This is a huge public space that rarely disappoints. Highly recommended.

There is a plywood path build near the lake before the entrance. You can just take that path to see the lake. You can't walk around the lake. Is blocked and be careful of those holes on the path. Only the Double Dragon Stone Boat there for you to take pictures. Other then that nothing good to see. Those path that can be walk on is surround by building. No nature, so don't waste time coming here.

The lake is a nice spot for a morning run. There are various entrances to the park surrounding the lake - on the southern side some will charge an entrance fee but access from the northern side was free of charge as of January 2020. The park on the northern side allows for some great pagoda views. At the time of writing this a boardwalk was being erected on the southern-west side but it was not complete, yet.

Beautiful place to visit with family. It is a nice picnic spot.
Piyush M — Google review
This lake and the walk around it, it worth the effort. It is not a pristine English garden. The lake is full of algae and there is a bit of rubbish around. But the boardwalk has just been replaced and the new one creates a really nice way to walk around the lake. (FEB 2020 - It is almost finished but there are a few parts that are just being completed. There did not seems to be any signs , but you can find yourself at a dead end and have to walk back in a few places when you come upon the next lot of construction) All in all a great walk around.

Looks good from little distance. Lot of the wooden boards of the side walking lane are broken and men were drinking in the walk. It is worth to visit and you can see the Pagoda from the lake. It has malls and restaurants near the lake.

A large and shallow artificial lake filled with water from bigger Inya Lake. It's a beautiful lake with a more than 6000 m long wooden bridge, constructed around it. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately :)), parts of the bridge are being repaired so that you can't get everywhere, i.e. to Karaweik Palace restaurant (december 2019), walking over it.

A very big and beautiful area to walk around or relax. A few drinks stalls and toilets spotted about but no toilet paper so remember to bring your own.

Yankin Fruit & Flower Market is a must-visit for those looking to purchase beautiful flowers, albeit at slightly higher prices than other local shops. The market also offers an array of fresh fruits and traditional preserved foods like dried fish. Additionally, visitors can indulge in coconut jelly while exploring the various flower and fruit vendors.
I Think you should go to this market to buy nice Flowers. A bit more expensive than other local flower shop but it is worth paying. And at the end of the Market Road there is a well known Milk shop. And please don't forget to buy Myanmar Traditional Preserved Food like dried fish.

Yangon Central Railway Station is a captivating blend of history and culture, having been rebuilt in 1954 after its destruction during World War II. This architectural gem showcases Burmese post-colonial design with classical influences. It serves as a vital hub connecting various regions of Myanmar and is the starting point for the enchanting Yangon Circular Railway.
Worth a visit. A bit run down but still very beautiful architecture. The perimeter outside is a bit sketchy, but still safe. There is a walkway on the second floor that will take you to the downtown.

Yangon Central Railway Station, a magnificent architectural marvel, stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Its grand and massive infrastructure, though impressive, reveals signs of age. To cater to the demands of modern travelers, the station requires significant upgrades, including the installation of modern equipment and arrangements, clear direction signs, and user-friendly online systems. These enhancements will not only improve the overall passenger experience but also elevate the station's status as a vital transportation hub in Yangon.

A very nice place in Yangon. The central station with circulation train around the city that would be one of the most interesting activities in the capital of Myanmar. The construction is remained for long time but being in good condition in use. It is not so hard to buy ticket for tourists like us, because they have all the guidance sign in each lane.

Yangon Central Railway Station is a very old building located at Town Center. The city train circular ride is 3 hours but for only 200 Kyat (USD0.13), truly value for money. The train route passes many small suburb area and you can alight on any stop you like. If 3 hours journey is too long, just hop off on any stop and take Grab to go to your preferred destination. It’s indeed a unique experience

At the Yangon Central Railway station, there is a great tourist attraction - the circular rail line! It takes some 3.5 - 4 hours, running from this station to different parts of towns/villages and returning to same station. There was much fun, inside the coach, seeing and experiencing like the locals do. The mad rush, the hard seats and then, the many peddlers selling their wares and food stuff, from one stop to the other. And the views, outside the coach are live pictures in motion. Beautiful scenes of countryside, wooden houses, farmlands, cars, roads etc...in sequence. A very memorable trip in this slow moving train.

The nearest hotel for this station is Hotel G. It is an amazing experience for doing the circular train trip. Interesting architecture outside the building. Inside the building is old and dusty. You can tell the guards to let you in and go onto the railway track for photo taking😎 You can also buy the train ticket at 200kyat for a round trip, which will take 3 hours for the whole trip🚂

A Historic Journey Through Yangon Central Station No trip to Yangon is complete without a visit to the iconic Yangon Central Railway Station. This historic transport hub offers a glimpse into Myanmar's colonial past and remains an important part of daily life for locals. Stepping into the vast domed lobby felt like going back in time. The grand British architecture and intricate tilework have been beautifully preserved since the station was built in 1954. I loved admiring the arched colonnades, painted ceiling murals, and giant clocktower from the platforms. Yet the real charm comes from the buzzing energy of passengers, vendors, and trains passing through. Families wait for their journeys on shaded teak benches, monks offer prayers, and the smell of local snacks like chickpea fritters fills the air. I took a circular train ride just to soak up the sights and sounds. Passing crowded outer neighborhoods and rural villages surrounding Yangon provided fascinating views of everyday life. The old diesel locomotives and wooden train cars added to the nostalgic vibe. The station doubles as a social space where people gather to eat, shop, and relax. Browsing the bookstalls on the platforms, I picked up a beautiful vintage map of Myanmar. I even stumbled upon an art gallery exhibiting local paintings. Yangon Central Station encapsulates the spirit, history, and people that make this city so incredible. It's the perfect place to experience the rhythms of daily Burmese culture. I could have spent hours exploring this transportation jewel. For an immersive experience, don't miss taking a train journey from Yangon's spectacular central station.

Decent park with a 300 kyat admission fee. A few small dining places along the lake. A few play areas for children. A very small "zoo". A nice small island to relax on the grass. The National Museum of Myanmar, a modern five-story establishment in Yangon, is an essential destination for anyone eager to delve into the rich tapestry of Burmese history and culture. Established in 1952, this museum showcases a diverse array of exhibitions that highlight everything from the evolution of the Myanmar alphabet to the unique traditions and attire of various ethnic groups. Among its most captivating displays is the Royal Lion Throne, a stunning artifact that embodies deep cultural significance.
The admission fee is 10k now. One locker room for sorting your bag, and a few room prohibited the photoshoots on an piece of paper attached to the ticket also the sign at the door of each a a reminder. Loved the rich culture including the folk art, clothing and the precious display of the royal family items. A great way to get a glimpse of Myanmar and as in its history and geography. It is not as modern and advanced as the ones in those developed countries, but they have made their best efforts showcasing the country obviously.

Myanmar National Museum – Honest Impressions The Myanmar National Museum is almost empty — you might find yourself being the only visitor inside. It feels quite deserted, which can be peaceful but also a bit eerie. Bags are not allowed inside. You have to leave them at the entrance in a locker, which is securely locked. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. However, one major downside is that photography is not allowed inside the museum. This is quite disappointing, as most national museums around the world allow visitors to take photos. The museum lacks air conditioning, so it gets uncomfortably hot inside. The exhibits and overall layout feel somewhat underwhelming and basic — it gives off a rather neglected or half-hearted vibe. On the plus side, the entrance fee is cheap, just a few US dollars. But overall, it’s not a very impressive experience unless you’re deeply interested in Burmese history and have time to spare.

The national museum is well worth a visit. It has a lot of very interesting exhibits. It only costs 10,000MMK to visit and can easily take a few hours to go through. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants to learn about Myanmar’s precolonial history.

It's a must to do if you want to want to learn more on Myanmar. The 4 floors took me ( in fast ) 2 hours but if you are an historian or cultural passioned, it will take you more. Not many people there, it's very quite and good to see the beauties and pieces, you will be alone most of the time in each hall. Very interesting is the music instruments hall on the 3rd floor and the Asian corner on the top floor.
Péchey J — Google review
Surprisingly empty. No bags allowed inside but there are lockers you can rent. Phones are allowed but some areas are off limits for photography. 4 floors with 3-4 galleries per floor. It has everything from Royal Regalia and thrones to prehistoric dinosaur bones. The gallery on the major tribes that make up Myanmar was fascinating as was the music and art gallery. Well worth a visit if you are in the city. Give yourself 2-3 hours to explore.

I was there last year people said its closed now as they plan to move it to another place so you need to check about this. But although of this I want to share my experience about this amazing museum as I really enjoyed to be there last year. First you pay as forginer 500k and you have to leave your bag at outside locker and it's mandatory The museum consist of 5 floors each one has a story and it's special and different items. If you want to know about Burma history and traditions and culture this will be the best place ever as almost show every thing you need to know specially its very hard to find someone explain all of this to you as the history of Burma is long and complicated. I took around 1.5 hours to finish my tour and still feeling its not enough. Overall its a great experience and I hope it still open.

We visited the memorial garden today and could not be happier. We booked a return journey on Grab and the driver kindly waited 30 minutes for us (for a small tip). The memorial was listed online as ‘closed to the public’ but the gardeners beckoned us over and allowed us to enter. We had the whole place to ourselves! The gardens and graves were so well maintained and the whole place was just stunning. They directed us to the grave of my Great-grandfather and were very welcoming. We are so thankful for their help. Well worth a visit!

Beautifully designed and maintained grounds that will impress most visitors. I visited the Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery on my way back from a day trip from Yangon to Bago. It's an excellent place to stop on the return trip. It provides a lesson in history and a look into the lives of locals who use these grounds as a public park, a green space where there are many corners to sit, observe and meditate.

Great place for historic understanding and realisation of the damages by the world war. How people who were thousands of kilometres from this place fought in the war that was going to give nothing to them. People from Africa fighting for England in Myanmar against the Japanese. How on earth that makes sense? It's a reminder that wars are fought for the egos of the leaders.
Nishant S — Google review
The Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery is an absolute marvel to behold even from the outside. As I approached the entrance, I was immediately captivated by the sheer grandeur and beauty of this memorial site. Nestled amidst lush greenery and serene surroundings, the cemetery stands as a poignant tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War II. The perfectly manicured lawns, adorned with colorful flowers and towering trees, create an ambiance of peace and tranquility. The striking architecture of the memorial instantly catches the eye. The tall stone pillars, engraved with the names of the fallen soldiers, stand tall and proud, reminding visitors of the bravery and heroism displayed by these courageous men. The intricate details of the carvings showcase the dedication and craftsmanship that went into creating this memorial. What truly sets this cemetery apart is the sense of serenity it exudes. The calmness in the air is almost palpable, allowing visitors to reflect and pay their respects in a peaceful environment. The perfectly aligned tombstones, each bearing the name, rank, and regiment of the fallen soldier, create a solemn atmosphere that is both awe-inspiring and humbling. As I gazed at the cemetery from the outside, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers. The sprawling grounds are a testament to the immense scale of their service and the lasting impact they have left behind. Moreover, the natural beauty surrounding the memorial adds to its allure. The vibrant flora and fauna create a picturesque backdrop, making it a perfect place to pause, reflect, and appreciate the lives that were lost. The meticulously maintained gardens and pathways invite visitors to take a leisurely stroll and soak in the peaceful ambiance. While I couldn't venture inside the memorial during my visit, the exterior itself left an indelible impression on me. The Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery is undoubtedly a place of profound beauty, where nature and remembrance harmoniously converge. In conclusion, the Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery is a breathtaking sight even from the outside. Its remarkable architecture, meticulously maintained grounds, and serene surroundings make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a place of remembrance and tranquility.

Even though it's right next to Highway 1, it still manages to be a tranquil place for remembrance and reflection. The grounds are well kept and clean for the most part, and visitors and locals are generally respectful of the place and what this cemetery stands for. You can see the graves of people (some marked, some unknown) from numerous countries. While it may not be a "must see" when in the Yangon area, you certainly won't be worse off for taking some kind of transportation (bus, taxi, bicycle) out here to see it.

We went to the cafe for high tea. The cafe wasn't busy and we were seated right away. We didn't have reservations. The cafe is beautiful and styled more European than Burmese. We tried the Myanmar style high tea instead of the typical high tea. It's more expensive than a traditional meal for Myanmar. This costs us $18 each. The food itself was interesting to try and they accommodated a vegetarian diet. It was disappointing they only provided us with one type of tea. Many other high tea places I have tried lets you try multiple teas. The wifi worked well and the facilities were clean and modern. They accept credit cards as a form of payment. This was a lovely way to spend an afternoon out of the hot sun in Yangon.

They call it a cafe, but it's both a restaurant and cafe. Or at least, I'm not aware of there being any other restaurant on-site. Anyway, I've had lunch here several times and have never been disappointed. The 2 and 3 course lunch set costs US$12 and US$19 (payable in Kyat) respectively. It's a bit steep to pay US$7 to go for an extra course so I always go for the 2-course lunch. A main (entree) and your choice of the starter or dessert is on offer. Water and plenty of bread with butter are served complimentary, but other drinks are extra. Service is quite attentive but not too intrusive. They take your order and once the food comes, it's delightful. Whether you choose a local or western option, the quality is superb as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. Surprisingly, the prices are not too bad considering it's a 5-star hotel. Definitely a place I will visit again on my next business trip.

We had a classic high tea set which cost $20. You can share with your friend if you want. Coffee and Myanmar tea are limited. The other tea like Early Grey and some others are free flow. The food taste really nice and we love it. Although the staff are friendly, there were no one around the corner so we had to go out and call them to order and ask for bill. If they could check on the customers often, it would be better.
Hnin D — Google review
Lovely for high tea. We had one Myanmar tea and one classic tea. The presentation was beautiful and the pot of tea was very large. The service was also very attentive. Four stars because some of the food was just mediocre. The Myanmar tea came with a course of white and black sticky rice, which had absolutely no flavor at all and did not deserve a place at high tea—it was like filler food. The cafe should work to refine some dishes a bit more.
Caroline L — Google review
High tea was entirely adequate but not special. The service was good and the tea was served in a big pot each, which was great. The food came out promptly and was definitely fancy looking. But if you’ve ever had high tea at another very nice establishment, you’ll be disappointed. The scone was very small and crumbled to pieces, so spreading cream was not possible. The sandwiches were good but not very imaginative — one was basically just a plain ham sandwich, and another was a strange asparagus and jelly concoction out of the 1980s. Good sweets overall, definitely the highlight. Perhaps I’m spoiled by high tea at other establishments, but at the price tag ($20 a head + tax/tip, ie 5x what other meals cost), I expect a little more wow.
Jetson L — Google review
Nice space in a grand old Building. But the food was average and beverages only ok. The staff where nice, but not friendly nor unfriendly! We had a set menu, and the food was mostly bland and quite uninteresting. The salmon was ok - good dish. The soup was not good - very bland. The lamb was ok - cooked nicely, presentes poorly and not supported with and sides that would make the dish pop! The desert was ok , much better than I expected, but still not amazing. Maybe the main restaurant is better but I cannot really recommend the cafe at least for a meal. It may be ok for a snack and coffee, but not up to pair with the grandeur of the building for a dining experience.

It is a good shopping mall, I'd say better than most. Many stores inside, and eatries, as well as a Cineplex. This do stand out from the rest in terms of interior decoration as well. Very downtown, but parking spaces are good and ample. The marketplace (supermarket) here is on the small side, but still can get some prime cuts, though not a lot to choose from. Overall, good place to hang out. Also has several food and beverage outlets. Watch boutiques, fashion outlets, branded stores like Hugo boss, nike and addidas and so on. Government Buildings
Yangon City Hall, completed in 1936 and designed by architect U Tin, is a grand building with tiered roofs that showcases both colonial and oriental design elements. Located across from Mahabandoola Park, it stands as a beautiful example of the city's colonial past. Walking along Sule Pagoda Road offers views of this architectural gem, along with other nearby landmarks such as Immanuel Baptist Church and high-rise skyscrapers.
Yangon City Hall is a landmark building in the heart of Yangon and a must-visit for anyone exploring the city. Its stunning colonial-era architecture, blending traditional Myanmar design elements with modern influences, makes it one of the most iconic and photographed structures in Yangon. Located near Sule Pagoda, it’s surrounded by other historical buildings, adding to the charm of downtown Yangon. The City Hall serves as the administrative center of the Yangon Region and hosts various government offices. While entry is restricted to authorized personnel, the exterior is well worth admiring, especially for architecture enthusiasts. The area around City Hall is bustling, with plenty of shops, street vendors, and local eateries, making it a vibrant part of the city. It’s an excellent starting point for a walking tour of Yangon’s historical and cultural sites. The building is also beautifully lit at night, offering a completely different perspective.

21Yangon International Airport

International airport
Yangon International Airport is located in a city known for its safety, even for solo female travelers. The streets are generally safe at night and carrying cash is not a major concern. The government takes crimes against tourists seriously, ensuring a secure environment. The airport itself is described as clean and quiet, with friendly immigration staff ready to assist travelers. While some shops may be closed due to political events, souvenir shopping is still an option, although prices may be higher compared to local markets.
I can say world best airport ground services airport. World survey says rich countries or crowd countries are best airports but taking care of ground services not so good . Yangon very smooth move . Like a say if any crowded time. You can finish entry gate , boarding, immigration, security check all will be 30 to 45 minutes only . This fast any other airport make money says fast track but Myanmar don’t care abt money . God bless Myanmar 🇲🇲
Haji S — Google review
I recently had the opportunity to pass through Yangon International Airport twice this month, marking my return after five years since my last visit in 2019. The change in the airport's atmosphere was immediately noticeable, with a significant reduction in the number of foreign tourists. On our flight from the UK, aside from my family, there were only four other European passengers, with the remaining travelers primarily from China or Myanmar. Contrary to some of the more alarming reports in the media, I did not once feel unsafe during my ten-day stay, which included visits to various parts of Yangon. The airport itself seemed quieter compared to 2019, with immigration lines shorter and the process more streamlined. The immigration officers were courteous, though I did observe a subtle difference in their interactions with locals versus foreign visitors. Nonetheless, the overall hospitality of the Myanmar people left a lasting positive impression, with their warm smiles being a hallmark of the experience. A few days later, during our departure for Bangkok and Cambodia, we encountered a small issue at one of the airport cafes. We noticed an unoccupied table with empty dishes and requested that it be cleared. The staff informed us that the previous occupants had just stepped out. However, shortly after, four men who appeared to be officials approached with a somewhat authoritative demeanor and occupied the table. It became evident that the table was reserved, and the waiter quickly cleared it once they arrived. The departure process itself was efficient and swift, with minimal wait times at immigration. However, I was surprised to find that most of the shops in the duty-free area were closed, with only a few outlets open, offering alcohol, souvenirs, and one coffee shop. Despite these minor inconveniences, the airport staff consistently provided service with kindness and a genuine warmth that I found both welcoming and comforting. In summary, while Yangon International Airport has seen a reduction in activity and services, the efficiency, professionalism, and hospitality of the staff remain commendable. The overall experience warrants a four-star rating, with the airport offering a smooth and pleasant travel experience even in these quieter times.

A small airport, not that many choices of food or drinks. To me it was a little depressing, the power went out when I was there. Mostly location brands of food. Long line for check in, but it was quick at eh immigration point. Couldn’t find any public transportation. Don’t change any money with the people there or at the exchange place. The rate was so bad. Change outside, much better.
WT — Google review
Not so busy airport. Seats are very limited specially if you are waiting before checkin. I only saw kfcand others are local restaurants. I had a smooth arrival and departure as well.
EC C — Google review
I have visited a few times in this Airport, the new terminal is better than old one. Before available to go inside for receive someone but right now no way to go inside. So need to wait for long time if you're looking for receive someone. And their is no place to sit outside, it's difficult wait for long time without sitting. So need to think about time management before go to airport. I think this is because of covid protocol.
Bimalangkar — Google review
Small airport but decent and clean. Wifi works well. But difficult to navigate even for experienced travelers. I came late and all currency exchanges were closed. 3 ATMs. Revolt card didn’t work as region is restricted. Atm fee of 6500 or 10k. The grab counter where you can book ride but won’t work with any cards. You can only pay cash. Ride costs 22k to the city ~10 USD

Transportation service
Aung Mingala Highway Bus Terminal, also known as the Highway Bus Station, serves as Yangon's main hub for interstate bus travel. Despite its worn-down appearance, this bustling terminal offers a wide range of bus lines and operates around the clock to various destinations across Myanmar. Travelers can easily access taxis from downtown or the Yangon International Airport to reach this vital transportation center.
It is one of the most popular bus terminal in Yangon. Avoid who come and ask about transportation to your place . They are all liar . They don't really have car and they all commissioner . Take good care of your bag and phone . Now in September .You can easily get a taxi from online . It is safe and reasonable price. Find in google (Loyar Thwar App & Grab Taxi)
ZawZaw M — Google review
The bus terminal offers a functional yet basic experience. It provides adequate seating, clear signage, and a range of amenities like restrooms and snack shops. The staff is helpful, though lines can get long during peak hours. Cleanliness is average, with some areas requiring more maintenance. The terminal is well-connected to local and long-distance routes, making it a convenient hub for travelers. However, the waiting area could use more modern updates, such as charging stations and Wi-Fi. Overall, it serves its purpose effectively but leaves room for improvement in comfort and facilities.
Waiyan ( — Google review
The first impression is the entrance gate where you'll get charged 200 Kyats for getting into the terminal. It's totally nonsense. Then the roads are all bumpy and the aggressive express buses are all waiting for you. The taxis are all overcharging and there are robber-like bag carriers and real pocket snatchers. Everyone's littering and spitting that the whole neighborhood is so dirty and messy. The roads are so complicatedly structured that specific bus lines cannot be navigated and found easily. Whenever you go there, you will have at least a point to get upset. Public toilets - not clean and functioning Shops and restaurants - overcharging
Toon N — Google review
A convenient and reliable spot for traveling around Myanmar. It offers various bus services to different cities.
Heather — Google review
It is closer to Yangon than other long-distance bus terminals and is more convenient to travel to.
Kki G — Google review
Taxi drivers from the drop off area (official taxi stand) are unprofessional and no ethic. They want to put 3 or 4 passengers altogether like a ferry without air-conditioning and want to ask Taxi fares more than it should be. Obviously, it is going to be a bad choice to hire them. I suggest it is better to hire moving taxi around here or using other taxi services app for convenience and comfort.

I love staying here during Thingyan holidays. The rooms are so cozy with amazing interior design, and they're totally worth the money. Breakfast area's a bit tight, but hey, the rooms are spotless and the service is top-notch. Only downside? Parking's a squeeze, especially when it's busy. Fingers crossed the rates stay the same, and maybe next time folks will keep it down a bit. This place? Definitely Yangon's hidden gem for a great stay.

Yangon's Chinatown, located near Sule Pagoda and 19th street, has a rich history dating back to the 1850s when it was established during British rule. Today, it is a bustling area with over 150,000 Chinese residents. Visitors can explore ancient temples and pagodas, indulge in traditional Chinese cuisine like tofu and dumplings, and browse through the vibrant night market for souvenirs.
The most famous place among local residents and foreigners. 19th street is the most popular.

So dirty and unorganized. Mostly was for local, not really touristy as other typical China town. Located next to Downtown Yangon. You can also hire the tricycle, I paid 10k Kyatts for 1 hour. No English for sure. Night time, on 19th street where all the tourists go to.

HOOD Hostel, situated in the heart of Yangon, is a refurbished colonial building that serves as a social enterprise providing vocational training for local youth. The hostel offers basic dorms and rooms, along with amenities such as Wi-Fi and free breakfast. Guests can enjoy a rooftop terrace and a common room while supporting the education of local youth through their stay. The friendly service and overall vibe make it popular among travelers.
My first impression, HOOD was good especially representing hospitality of Myanmar. Well explained by their staff about do and don’t for first timer visitor at Yangon/ Myanmar. They’re very helpful, always smiling and ready to help any guest they can. Minimalist concept was good and gives more room to others. But a few item need to change because some tear. Anyway I just don’t like they promo too much about rainbow flag group. Any safety, don’t worry because they work 24hours and at the end of the road, security control for whole neighborhoods. Recommended to stay but not for the rainbow flag too much.

Thoughtful Team and Great Rooftop for Remote Work I had a fantastic stay at Hood Hostel! The team was incredibly friendly and accommodating—they supported me throughout my cultural tour across Myanmar and even helped with planning, which made my trip so much smoother. A lovely surprise was the birthday gift, and I’m especially grateful that the staff found and returned my charger after I forgot it at checkout. That kind of care really stood out. Also, the rooftop is a great spot for taking focused calls—peaceful and perfect for anyone working while traveling. Highly recommended for both backpackers and remote workers looking for a supportive, welcoming place in Myanmar!

Glad we picked this hostel out of all the places we could have stayed at. Great value for money, with simply the best service. Highly recommended.

Power outage happened when I came in tonight, which led to no tap water available for shower and anything else. The staff didn’t even mentioned the suspension of tape water supply, which’s very annoying. All the staff seem just live here and try to stay alive, they didnt really care about their jobs. Don’t come here especially during the war time, as the situation can only be more shitty day by day.

It's conveniently located near popular attractions such as Botataung Pagoda, Bogyoke (Scott) Market, Myanmar Artists art gallery, Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, and Kandawgyi Lake.
Yangon is a charming city. Scott made my trip even better. Dorm room is comfortable with privacy. Each dock have its only locker. The whole building is very clean even if the shared toilet. Front desk is extremely helpful, they always tried their best to help you. I would definitely come back when I visit Yangon next time.

My stay at the hostel was alrighty I really have to say the staff is friendly helpful and speaks English really well. The lobby area and the rooftop are also really good. I liked it. Breakfasts Includes toast with jam, cereals, milk, juice and coffee. Not too bad for a hostel in my opinion. The bad things were that the toilet constantly smelled like pee and my dorm room smelled mouldy and like pee. The bunk beds look quiet old and need some renovation. There are definitely some things to improve.

I loved this hostel!! I stayed there twice while my travels in Myanmar. It's very very clean and the staff is super friendly. You can pay US Dollar and Kyat. The hostel is a bit hidden in one of the (dirty and smelly) streets and is a real oasis. It's furniture is really modern and chic - there is a balcony on top where you can relax and hang around. There also offering a laundry service, which was quite good! Definitely recommend this hostel and would come back anytime!
Bastian B — Google review
I had a wonderful stay at the Scott Hostel for my only night in Yangon. The beds in the dorm room are among the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in at any hostel in the world, and the entire set-up - having a large spacious cupboard in your bunk, one wall outlet in your bunk, and a large locker to put your valuables in underneath all the bottom bunks - was fantastic. The showers and bathroom stalls are a bit small and cramped, and the stairs are a bit steep (yes, I am struggling to find stuff to complain about so I am targeting the stairs!) - other than that, I could not find anything to complain about this terrific little hostel. It's in a prime location, prices are super reasonable for a night's stay, there is a comfortable and cozy hang-out area on the ground floor next to the check-in desk where you can purchase water and hang out with other hostel friends (as well as get some work done on the desks and charge your devices at the many outlets provided)... I could go on and on, but I will definitely be back if I find myself in Yangon in the future!
Sean M — Google review
This place sounded good from the reviews, but upon arriving I was really disappointed. I’m used to. pose in hostels but the noise in this hostel made it literally impossible to sleep. The doors are on sliders and they slam shut. Everything is wood so the floors above sound like everyone is stomping around and it’s just an extremely noisy place. The chinese guy at the front desk is really abrasive and rude. He was awful. There was a younger customer service guy that was lovely but the main guy who is the Manager was absolutely disgusting to deal with. Absolutely no concept of how to act with customers and no idea about customer service, really appalling.

The staff went out of their way to assist guests, from securing bus tickets to providing helpful information about different routes. Despite arriving early, the friendly staff accommodated an early check-in and even helped with booking bus tickets. The deluxe rooms offer stunning river views and are impeccably clean.
What a great hotel and experience staying at the hotel. The staff were very courteous and always available. The check-in process was very smooth. They can speak English well. They're always there to help you arrange a taxi and also told me details about the city. The room was very clean, spacious, and with all amenities, including fridge, tv, and bathroom accessories. The breakfast was nice its not a buffet one, but they have many options to select from. Asian, local, English, and Chinese Cuisine. Daily room cleaning service as well. Just a downside is they don't have a hairdresser machine in the washroom and no socket for the shavers. Also, the drinks and food prices are on the higher side.

The quality of the services and cleanliness of the facilities far exceeds what you would typical expect for 3 star Hotels in Yangon. I was glad to interact with the hotel receptionist as they really helped me by going out of their way to securing me an express bus to Bagan and informing me of the different routes with different prices that I can take. The Hotel is a tidy and secure spot for anyone looking for a basic amenities that I think I could say should be a standard model to what a 3 star hotel should be.

Arrived very early at the hotel but I was allowed to check in, with the very friendly staff apologising that I had to wait for a while before my room was ready. I had issues with booking my bus ticket to Bagan including getting cash (my USD bill had folds) but the entire team made it work. They booked my bus ticket for me and even called my hotel in Bagan to check if they can help me get a return bus ticket to Yangon. I can’t say enough nice things about this hotel. Their rooms are nice and clean and mine had a great view of the Yangon river!

The Pegu Club, a former gentlemen's club in British Rangoon, boasts Victorian architecture reminiscent of the Governors Residence. This two-story building with porticos has a rich history, having been turned into a brothel during the war. Now beautifully renovated, it maintains its historical essence while incorporating tasteful modern furnishings. Although not offering accommodations yet, it serves as a venue for various celebrations and will soon open a cafe and bar to the public.
A beautifully renovated piece of historical architecture that maintained its historical essence whilst adding in tastefully appropriate modern furnishing. The place was beautiful especially since it is being maintained properly. We had booked the corridor inside the Pegu(Bago) Club and it easily fit out 150+ audience. The lighting in the corridor and the lawn was gorgeous and perfectly fit our theme of a masquerade prom. However, I thought the food could have been somewhat better and could have been kept heated as well. Overall my experience there was great and we all enjoyed the event!

Lighting scheme isn't good for taking nice photos. Only pointed light sources outdoors without ample general lighting. Alot of the light is uplit, creating ghost faces. This is a 5 star establishment, why did they not think this through? Have to park one block away and walk over. If you are wearing heels good luck. Get a driver or go with taxi, instead.

Golden Gate China Town Hotel is a modest yet comfortable budget accommodation located in the heart of Chinatown, Yangon. The hotel offers a rooftop terrace with stunning city views and serves a satisfying breakfast to start your day. Situated in an area known for its vibrant nightlife, guests can easily immerse themselves in the local environment by exploring the nearby street food options and lively bars. The hotel's attentive staff are praised for their helpfulness, from assisting with bus ticket purchases to providing friendly service during breakfast.
Great place for a budget stay in downtown Chinatown but still feel secure and good because they don't have day section room services. Available single bedrooms and those are the rare things in most of the hotels. Cleaned even though it's a little small. Breakfasts were good. It's a nice walk to stroll around Chinatown especially in the evening. Will stay next time too.

As I try to be kind, I don't always post things like this, but how long do we let the burmese hotels get away with it all? What did I pay 22usd for? All the surfaces in my room were absolutely filthy, what looked like diarrhea and bodily emissions. They were easily wipable, but no one had bothered! They brobably had been there for ages. Those images are from the third "serviette wipe", as the horrid truth kept on dawning, that I had placed my clean belongings on something so disgusting. I confirmed with the reception, they claimed the room WAS cleaned. The reception WAS helpful and sincere. The bed was clean, thank God, and the shower, apart from a flooding floor, was tolerable. Electricity kept going out and there were men repairing the generators. The fire escape/stairs were locked with a padlock. Good luck getting out if there is a fire. The filth and much was such that I've rarely seen. Probably a love hotel for the burmese. Avoid!

Nice place but the beds are rock hard. Electric goes off quite a lot and they charged us 21000 chat for a stain on the sheets after staying a week!

This budget hotel cost 29000ks/day for twin share. It is situated near Chinatown and accessible to local markets and restaurants. The price is fair for what you get. Breakfast included but only 2 options to choose (fried rice and egg with scramble eggs). Service is poor. We arrived first to level 8 and ordered fried rice for two. Guests who arrived later got their orders and we have been waiting for almost 20 mins. We have to leave the hotel and eat somewhere else. Cleanliness needs to be improved as we found some dusts on the bed sheet after cleaning. See attached photo. Overall, price is fair and hotel management needs to pay some attention on house keeping and more choices on breakfast.

Great escape just outside Yangon! Peaceful greenery, wildlife, and a fun water activities. Perfect for anyone wanting a quick break from city life without going far. Highly recommended!

Hlawga National Park offers plenty of camping spots and beautiful natural scenery. You can drive through the safari, which allows you to enjoy the views up close. However, some parts of the road are bumpy and have potholes. Monkeys are a common sight along the main entrance road and throughout the park, adding to the experience. Overall, it's a cozy and enjoyable place to visit.
Okka K — Google review
Initially I came for a nice park stroll with side quest to see monkeys. In reality, the park is absolutely unwalkable due to the above mentioned monkeys. Aggressive, attacking tourists for food, working in groups. If you wanna be robbed by apes, welcome here. Plus, ferries are not appearing often, so you can to wait 20+ min to get a spot. Generally, park looks a bit run-down, garbage everywhere. Tourists dont bother collecting their own trash. There are some recreational activities but im not sure about water safety and biological compatibility with swimming. Do it at your own risk. Yes, I can tell the air feels healing. A quick city escape if you are tired of Yangon noise. There are also some restaurants in there. I tried one, quality was ok. Elephants look pity. Chained like slaves. Couldnt stand there for long. If they’d improve ferries, give more recreational facilities, designated hiking trails, would be great.

This is my new favorite hotel. The prices here at the time I got here was a bargain! You get to have free breakfast and a very large room for under $15. Not too bad... The only downside is the location. It is terribly far from anywhere I deem fun and exciting. It is 50 minutes away walking distance to the park. 45 minutes away from a decent gym. The market is also 20 minutes of walking. If you are a solo traveller who loves to walk and loves affordable stays that punches above it's weight. Stay here!

The Pansodan Ferry Terminal is a bustling hub located in the heart of Yangon, Myanmar. It serves as a major gateway for travelers looking to explore the scenic river routes and reach various destinations across the region. The terminal offers a vibrant atmosphere with numerous boats and ferries coming and going, providing an authentic glimpse into the local transportation system.
As opposed to many of the reviews here our experience of the terminal was fine. We were with a local guide and I think that makes all the difference. If you want to see a different side (lieraly) to Yangon then it is worth the effort to go and see Dala. This ferry terminal services the local community and is busy and bustling, but get yourself a good local guide and you can enjoy the convenience of the ferry ride from this terminal.
Paul S — Google review
Guy posing as student met us at the ferry ticket booth. He was actually in the ferry registration office so we trusted that he was a good guy. The guy said he was practicing English on the weekend and that his tour is no fee - only what we want to pay. He was attentive and it was a good experience. But you can skip this if you are short of time and also if you have visited other rural areas in Asia (Cambodia India Nepal Philippines all have the same type of villages). We paid 4000 kyats per person for the return ferry trip. 10000 kyats per motorbike for an hour (the tour guide didn’t tell us upfront the total cost so it was an additional 10000 for his motorbike). He also tried to take us to donate rice for the tsunami village. We declined and told him to take us back to the ferry. At the end we gave him 5000 kyats tip and he actually told us it wasn’t enough and asked for another 5000. We gave him another 1000 and left. For two people, total cost 44000 kyats for a short trip. We were prepared to pay a bit more as we wouldn’t have known how to get around Dala without an English speaking guide so just be aware if you want to explore across the river from Yangon.
Fiona L — Google review
Just avoid this place which is full of cheaters and scammers! These so-called guides and rickshaws are from the same gang! They tell you that they just want to help you to enjoy Dala (enjoy what?! This place has zero interest, there are millions of villages like that across Asia, nothing special) and pay as much as you want. But after "the tour" ends, they'll ask you to pay 2-3 times more according to the cost was agreed at the beginning. Moreover, appeared another guy who instroduced himself as The Boss here and was really rude. Advice: be more rude and pay the money you believe reasonable for such experience (no more than 10$ IMHO). The best advice: avoid this place! I can't believe such places still exist in wonderful Myanmar.
Travel P — Google review
As you get off the boat at Dala, there's a lookout watching for tourists, who wants to try expensive schemes on tourists.... He will offer help and pose as a student. Avoid, anyone approaching you offering cheap or free things, ... Is not cheap or free, not really. Read other comments in this section. Similar stories. Tourist scams. Usually the person to approach you will say they are a student. This is the first place in Myanmar I saw such scams operating. On the Yangon side: The officials played music very loudly, someone official looking tried to tell me I (a foreigner) had to buy ticket for the return as well because the other side didn't sell any foreigner tickets. Another local person then helped established that foreigners CAN buy tickets on both sides of the river 😎🙏😆 now that's a nice surprise isn't it ?. Foreigners pay more, 2000kyat one way, -- there is a special section on the boat set aside for foreigners, that probably justifies the price ??? Actually in reality everyone sits wherever they want. A very local experience, be calm, be broad minded 🙂👍🙏 The local ticket price is not cheap for many of the local passengers...
Heiko R — Google review
If you are a foreigner, stay away from this place. A 4,000 MMK fee for a 2-way ride is reasonable for tourists, but you are vulnerable of getting scammed by a self-proclaimed tourist guide who introduces himself as a student trying to learn English. We didn't ask him to join us, the guy from the ticketing office HANDED him our boat tickets which we paid for instead of giving the said tickets directly to us. He then lead us to his friends who are rickshaw drivers. They toured us around places that are not considered tourist attractions where we found lots and lots of garbage along the streets. It was an eye-opening tour for us, actually. Then, when we reached the ferry terminal, a guy asked us to pay 61,000 MMK for 2-hour ride. We were shocked to know that we had to pay for the guide's fare, too, which is 4,500 MMK for every 20-minute ride. We were shocked to know about it but my husband argued with them and ended up paying 45,000MMK. It was a total SCAM!
Aisle-n F — Google review
This is where you take the ferry across the river to DALA town. The place is old and usually overcrowded. Watch out for people who try to sell you expensive tour guide, even cheap ones are mostly swindle. For foreigners, the ferry ticket price is 4000Kyat per person all round to DALA. Taxi or Grab transport to this terminal will have to pay extra 300Kyat for vehicle entrance fee.
Brandon T — Google review
It can be interesting for the adventurous but is definitely not for the faint-hearted. The surrounding area is crowded and chaotic and the air is filled with all kinds of interesting smells. Watch out for large slimy rodents and stray dogs who seem ready to pounce at the slightest provocation.

The Myanma Port Authority stands as a striking emblem of Yangon’s rich colonial history, nestled along the bustling riverfront on Strand Road. Its bell tower design echoes Italian styles and adds to the charm of this historic area filled with other notable structures like the Custom House and Strand Hotel.

For just 200 kyats, you can enjoy a round trip with over 30 stops, providing ample opportunities to observe rural landscapes, visit local markets, and interact with friendly locals.
Train station staff was friendly, directed me to platform no.7 for the circular line. The ticket staff speaks good English and explained well to me, that the circular line was no longer a loop, as some of the stations closed. So it was only one way, but the ticket still valid for return, which costs only Myk200. It was a nice experience watching local life in and out of the train!

If you like rugged transportation and country life, don’t miss this ride. It’s a ride of a lifetime. Costing MMK200 each the trains starts at Yangon Central station and make a 3-hour loops back to Yangon. Come prepared with snacks and water for I don’t think you wanna savour the food by the itinerant hawkers onboard. The train has no doors nor windows so it all au natural with people hopping on and off with their wares bought from the city for sales in the villages. Each stop would see different hawkers parading their wares from iPhone jacks to noodles to fruits. It’s a mesmerising experience. After an hour we hopped off at Insein and took a cab to the city just to see the sights. And hopped onto the opposite bound train for Yangon. Make sure you ask the station master for the correct train.

Most of the line has been under maintenance for sometime, so the full circle can not be travelled. When we took the train it was travelling out to a couple of stops past Insein. We did the return from Central Station which took around 3 hours. The seats are hard and the ride isn't comfortable but there are a few interesting villages to see along the way. Worth the ride if you have the time and can cope with the hard seats.
Ross W — Google review
Circular line is closed due to construction (30th of November). You can only go to Insein and back, in 2 hours total. The train ride is not remotely interesting apart from the vendors inside who liven it up. Beware of girls saying they will help you and that will bring you food/beverages, as they just run to the nearby stall and then sell them to you at 10x the price.
